The Core Values Of Zappos
The holacratic model has, already, been adopted by for profit and non profit organizations in several
countries. For the purpose of an incubation chamber, Zappos.com has been the first organizational
reality to deploy it. Zappos is an online shoe and clothing shop founded in 1999 and owned by
Amazon since 2009. During the negotiations with Amazon, internal management s primary concern
was to maintain the company culture intact throughout the acquisition process, because a culture
that embraces the idiosyncrasies of each individual is what keeps the firm alive and healthy. Such
an emphasis on employees manifested itself in drawing up the ten core values of the Zappos family:
deliver wow through service;
embrace and drive change;
create fun and a little weirdness;
be adventurous, creative, and open minded;
pursue growth and learning;
build open and honest relationships with communication;
build a positive team and family spirit;
do more with less;
be passionate and determined;
be humble.
The company has, even, its own consulting unit to help others emulate the Zappos way and
folklore. In 2015, Zappos formerly adopted Holacracy. One of Holacracy s most significant
innovations is making governance something that happens at every level of the organization.
Governance becomes an ongoing process that happens in each circle, during the ... Show more

Effects Of The Amistad Revolt
On July 2, 1839, 53 hostage Africans on board the Amistad, a slave ship, broke out of their chains
and snuck up to the primary deck, where they overpowered and killed two crewmembers and
incapacitated the rest. Having hence seized control of the ship, they endeavored to cruise back to
their country, just to be deluded into traveling north rather than east. Throughout the following two
months, they went around 1,400 miles from Cuba to Long Island, New York, until the point when
the Naval force lifted them up and re imprisoned them. The Amistad was not the only slave revolt,
but one of the most significant. This revolt was an integral part of slave history because it brought
attention to the issue of slavery, inspired many, and helped establish laws and court systems today.
This Revolt brought attention to the issue of slavery. From the sixteenth to the nineteenth
centuries, approximatelyn expected 12 million Africans were persuasively dispatched over the
Atlantic Sea to the New World. Of those, no less than 1.5 million are said to have died before
reaching shore. Many states had made the importation of slaves illegal. However, since bondage
itself stayed lawful in the greater part of those spots, unlawful exercises flourished. Along the shore
of present day Sierra Leone, for instance, Spanish slave merchant Pedro Blanco kept his business
thriving with the assistance of a capable nearby pioneer who gathered together his human freight.
This was a legal, and lucrative

Metacognition and Transfer of Learning
Suppose that a student learns a mathematical procedure such as how to find the area of a
parallelogram. Later, when the student is given a parallelogram problem like the one he or she has
studied, he or she is able to find its area correctly. In short, the student shows that she can perform
well on a retention test. However, when this student is asked to find the area of an unusually shaped
parallelogram, he or she looks confused and answers We haven t had this yet . In short, the student
shows that she cannot perform well on a transfer test, which is applying what she has learned to a
new situation (Mayer, 2001) Unfortunately, mastering a component skill is not enough to support
non routine problem solving. Students need to know not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast, backward reaching transfer occurs when one is faced with a problem and looks back
on what he or she has learned in other situations to help in this new situation.
Factors that contribute to transfer of learning
Initial Learning
Without an adequate level of initial learning, transfer cannot be expected (Mestre, 2002). The
importance of initial learning was illustrated by a series of studies designed to access the effects of
learning to program in the computer language LOGO. When initial learning was accessed, it was
found that students often had not learned enough about LOGO to provide a basis for transfer
(Bransford, Brown, and Cocking, 1999). Many studies that have failed to produce transfer have
resulted from insufficient opportunities for students to learn efficiently in the first place (Mestre,
2002). Understanding
Transfer is also affected by the degree to which people learn with understanding rather than merely
memorizing. Judd s classic studies of learning to throw darts at underwater targets would be a
perfect exampled of how understanding is positively correlated with transfer. In sum, Judd s studies
demonstrated the value of learning with understanding rather than simply mimicking a set of fixed
procedures (Bransford

During this time, he also starts to disrespect his mother as he rapped, When things went wrong we

What My Bike Has Taught Me About White Privilege
The Article The article What My Bike Has Taught Me About White Privilege by J. Dowsett talks
about how there is a white privilege in today s world even if people want to deny it. He used the
analogy of bike riders being the minorities and automobile drivers being white. Most automobile
drives do not think about the bike riders, they are not men to them they just do not cross there mind
and because of that they might mistreat. There are also the automobiledrivers that go out of their
way to be mean to the bike riders just because they are driving a car so they feel superior.
Traditional and Alternative Perspectives

Post Positivist see issues from a perspective that knowledge is key. Post Positivist have to have a
strong base to start from. The example from class was that it is like a pyramid, in order to be
able to come to a conclusion or the top of the pyramid they must establish a strong base. This base
is made out of research. Reality is something that we can understand and capture probabilistically
using the right tools (Schriver, 2011:126). They believe that with the right about of research they
can come to an answer that fits best. Traditional interpreted. A traditional Post Positivist would see
this article in the manner that not much research was made when this article was made and that
therefore it could not be a sound article until there was more done to it. It is one mans view on

Jane Austen s Sense and Sensibility Essays
Love comes in many shapes and forms, whether it s an inanimate object or a person you want to
spend the rest of your life with. Jane Austen s novel, Sense and Sensibility , revolves around two
sisters who try to find true love, while requiring a balance of reason and emotion. Elinor and
Marianne Dashwood are viewed as two completely different people. Elinor is known to represent
sense while Marianne represents sensibility. In the novel, Jane Austen emphasizes two common
women s characteristics, and shows us how Elinor and Marianne both find love and happiness
only by overcoming their struggles and learning from one another s actions and mistakes. It is

how quickly she opened her heart into loving a man, putting feelings before logic. Marianne is
so drowned by her passions that she does not even stop to think that Willoughby and her may not
and will not be engaged (Manukyan). The sisters develop heartbreaks by their two love interests
and it sheds light on how their emotions change the plot of the story. Both Elinor and Marianne
get their hearts broken by the men they loved. In the beginning, Elinor meets a man named
Edward Ferrars and the two immediately click almost like they were meant for one another. They
soon face troubles when they find out others don t find them good enough for each other.
Marianne tells Elinor that she finds Edward too dull, while Edwards s mother doesn t approve of
them being together. Putting others aside, the feelings between them begin to grow and we start to
question if they are falling in love. Eventually, Elinor and her family end up moving to Barton
Cottage, causing things with Edward to become complicated. They begin to communicate less, and
Marianne finds it strange that Edward had not came to visit Elinor yet. But Elinor being the strong
one, hides her feelings well and acts like she s not upset with the situation. It is later on in the novel
that Elinor discovers from another woman, Lucy Steele,

Thou Blind Man s Mark Analysis
In the poem Thou Blind Man s Mark by Sir Philip Sidney, the speaker is struggling with his
desire for someone or something. They are fighting this feeling for control over his thoughts and
mind. It is shown that both the speaker and desire are constantly fighting, with neither fully able
to take control. This fact is evident through Sidney s use of violent diction, personification of
desire, and oxymorons. First, the diction of the poem is very violent. The words used are harsh
and show that the speaker is engaged in a war against his desire. For example, on line 14 it
states, Desiring naught but to kill desire (Sidney 14). The word kill is very intense and shows
that the speaker feels that the only way to destroy their desire is to murder it. Thus, ending the
fight they are stuck engaging in. This idea was earlier introduced in line 6, which says, With
price of mangled mind, thy worthless ware (6)[.] The words mangled and worthless are further
proof of this battle. Desire is leaving their mind in a mess, as is shown in the word mangled which
gives off the image of something being tangled and unable to be separated. Likewise, because his
mind is a mess, his thoughts are seemingly useless as shown through the use of worthless. The
wares, or valuable objects, in this case are the speaker s thoughts and ideas. Their constant battle
with desire has left their thoughts to be filled with nothing but thoughts of desire and those trying
to subdue it, thus leaving his mind

Pros And Cons Of Imunizing Children
Immunizing Children One of the most controversial choices today is the choice to choose
whether or not to immunize children. Things to take into consideration when making this
decision are the risks involved in not immunizing children and some of the reasons against
immunizing. The risks involved in not immunizing children is that the child will not be
protected against serious illnesses and diseases. One of the reasons people choose not to
immunize is that they are afraid it will traumatize or hurt their child, but it s one or two injection
pricks, opposed to a life time of multiple blood draws and lumbar punctures (spinal taps) every
time their child gets a rash or fever. If a child is not immunized they would need to be tested
every time for the diseases every time they got sick. Another reason people choose against
immunizations is a lack of health care. Though this is not so much choosing against the
immunizations, it is more they do not have the resources to choose immunizations. But here in
the United States children especially do not go without at least the basic health care. The United
States is behind many countries on health care but we are also not a third world country. We do
have access to great health care and we make it available to those in need. We have Medicaid,
WIC (Womens, Infants, Childrens), we have free clinics and many more resources to make sure
children are protected. The most common reason right now for people to choose

American Farms Great Again Is The Motto For Burlington...
Research Paper
Make American farms great again is the motto for Burlington Robotics. Autonomous means:
controlled by a computer without a need for human intervention. United States farmers compete
globally for market share and Burlington Robotics wants to provide the machines needed to reach
the greatest potential. The next revolution in farming will be autonomous farming. Bet the Farm,
Best Robotics game for 2016 is a great example of the changes that are occurring in agriculture.
Farmers concerns with the autonomous tractor revolution include: safety, command and control,
laborers, efficiency and cost.
Safety
Autonomous farming could reduce farm accidents. According to the United States Department of
Labor approximately 300 fatalities occur each year due to vehicular incidents on the farm.
Autonomous farm machinery could decrease these numbers. Make an automated farm a safer place
with Vantage (copyright) obstacle detection and avoidance. Equip robotic farm vehicles with the
ability to see and safely react to unexpected hazards.
The first step in environmental awareness, this specialized LiDAR sensor produces a 3D area
readout that identifies potential obstacles and integrates seamlessly with Vantage.
The on board and remote emergency stops (e stops) serve as a safety override, immediately halting
all vehicle operations, as well as a toggle between manual/automatic control. According to

Psychiatric And Psychological Records Of Dissociative...
More than two million cases can be found altogether in psychiatric and psychological records of
Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID); previously called Multiple Personality Disorder. Dissociative
Identity Disorder exists as a peculiar mental disorder in which a person possesses two or more
evident and distinctive personalities. Through accounts like the movie Sybil, this disorder received
much attention worldwide completely altering our previous ideas about Multiple Identity Disorder.
The movie Sybil is based on a true story of a shy, college student, working as a substitute teacher
in New York City; who after years of memory loss and a cut hand found herself in a hospital being
treated by a doctor recommending psych evaluation. Dr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then came Vanessa, who plays piano, and is considered the prettiest of them all; she and Sybil,
together, fall in love with their neighbor Richard and his son Matthew (the first to notice Sybil s
disease). The most self destructive of the personalities, Marsha, aims to kill Sybil (suicide). In all
Sybil, the host, is thought to have sixteen different selves. Though all the personalities do not come
at the same time.
Sybil suffers from a severe case of Dissociative Identity Disorder. Dissociative Identity Disorder is
a chronic form of dissociation, a mental illness which manufactures a lack of connection between
a person s thoughts, feelings, actions, memories, or sense of self (MPD). DID is associated with
two or more distinct identities, or personality states, that reside in and alternately take control of
an individual. The person s behavior is determined by the personality that is dominant at a given
time. The person also experiences memory loss that is too extensive to be explained by ordinary
forgetfulness. A victim that survives with DID will endure lost time (amnesia) or black out spells,
which may lead to denial of their disease and forgetfulness of events and/or experiences. This can
promote allegations of lying and manipulation which may lead to confusion for the undiagnosed
DID sufferer (MPD). Most patients, when they first enter treatment, most MPD victims are not
aware of the existence of other personalities. Other symptoms for DID include: the

Causes Of Water Pollution In The Huangpu River
Pollution of Water in the Huangpu River Introduction The Huangpu River is located in Shanghai,
China. Goes through Shanghai from South West to North East. It is the water supply to the 13
million people in the city. It also serves importance for tourism, fishery, navigation, and, most
importantly, receiving wastewater. In the mid 1980s, a control plan for the pollution in the
Huangpu River was made. But exactly how polluted is the Huangpu River? Causes of Pollution (5)
(Pollution of the Huangpu River by percentage (5)) There are four attributes to the pollution of the
Huangpu River. First, wastewater discharged to the Huangpu River contains large amount of
organic substances, which create a significant demand for dissolved oxygen in the water. Second,
about 81 per cent of the total waterways in the city are polluted. Third, the most serious pollution
occurs in the urban section, particularly at the water intake points for the Nanshi Water Treatment
Plant and the Yangpu Water Treatment Plant. Finally, the tidal nature of Huangpu River restricts
the release of organic pollutants to downstream stretches. Wrote the study case that was prepared
by Chonghua Zhang and published on behalf of the United Nations Environment Programme, the
Water Supply Sanitation Collaborative Council and the World Health Organization by E. F.

Figure 4.6 Strip antenna with coordinate axis
In order to operate in the fundamental 10 TM mode, the length of the patch must be slightly less

The equation for radiation resistance is given in (1). As can be seen, the greater the radiation
resistance, the more energy is radiated or received by the antenna. When the radiation resistance of
the antenna matches the resistance of the transmitter or receiver, the system is optimized. Antennas
also have ohmic or loss resistance which decreases efficiency. It can be shown that an efficient
antenna must be comparable to a wavelength in size.
(4.6)
A second parameter of antennas is the
Antenna pattern. This gives a distribution of radiated power as a function of direction in space.
Generally, planar sections of the radiation pattern will be shown instead of the complete three
dimensional surface. The most important views are those of the principal E plane and H plane
patterns. The E plane pattern contains the plane in which the electric field lies. Similarly, the H
plane pattern is a sectional view in which the magnetic field lies. An example of each type is
shown in Figure 4.1, which gives the antenna pattern for a half wave dipole orientated in the z
direction.

Canterbury Tales and Religion
Gilbert RuizGreat Texts Dr. Coleman FanninEssay 3 Satirizing the Greed of the Holy Church The
Canterbury Tales was written during a time of religious unrest. Corruption and greed infiltrated the
Church beyond the point of correction. Chaucer would have been well aware of these issues
growing up as a diplomat in fourteenth century England. His familiarity of the systems and
interactions between high ranking officials in the court and the church make him a reputable
source of criticism of the church and its affiliates. At a time when indulgences and monetary
incentives were at a peak in Christian churches, Chaucer used his poetic prowess and political

Instead of spending her time in prayer or even with her nuns, she chooses to adorn herself with
fancy things and prepares herself for the company of nobles. She has taken advantage of her

effectively demonstrates her duality as a prioress obsessed by money. For being ...so full of
charity and pity /That if she saw a mouse caught in a trap, /And it was dead or bleeding, she
would weep, her tale does not spare any crudeness. Certainly a lady so disturbed by the death of
a mouse might have trouble telling the tale of a boy whose throat Jews slit, yet this is exactly
what she does. She begins by requesting that the Virgin Mary ...guide the song that [she] shall
sing. This is strange because surely the Virgin Mary should not be associated with anti Semitics
and murder of little Christian boys. This peculiar coupling represents how dichotic her
personality is; she claims to live a life of piety, yet goes on to sin and ignore the needs of others.
The story is interesting because although the young boy does exactly what is expected of young
Christian boys (singing and praising God), Jews hear his singing and hire an assassin to Grab
him and [hold] him in a cruel grip, and cut his throat and [throw] him in a pit. Chaucer is
choosing to satirize how ridiculous it is for the Prioress to be blaming Jews. It is very easy and

Operating the theatre is very costly so it is vital to manage the surgeon s list efficiently; moreover,
it should ensure safety and quality in care (Rymaruk, Buch 2015). The surgeon s list comprises of
the cases that has to be performed through the day. It is the foundation of the proper functioning of
the operating room (Gore 2016). This essay will discuss the issues relating to the list management
which includes the scheduling of the list, skill mix and staffing, resource management and

Initially the upper lobectomy patient who required an ICU bed was first on the list. However
due to the latex patient it was rescheduled to be the second procedure, but because of the lack of
strycker stack system, all the VAT had to be brought forward resulting in upper lobectomy being
booked as the fourth case. Regardless of its delay, the ICU bed would still not be available if the
surgery was to be performed fourth, thus the bronchoscopy surgery was conducted prior to the
upper lobectomy procedure, in order to preserve time. If this case was done before, then the patient
would have had to be kept in the theatre, thus impeding on the time available to perform the
following surgeries. Hence, by rescheduling the list to allow the upper lobectomy case to be
conducted fifth, it allowed the smoother flow of surgeries while exhibiting a more efficient time
management. As time consumption was also reduced, it decreased the cost as it increased the
amount of patients treated with the same resource (Officer of the Auditor General (OAG) 2015).
However, despite the time management, the theatre went overtime. An element that contributed to
the overrunning of the theatre is due to the VAT surgeries being performed by a training surgeon
under the supervision of a consultant. The hospital facilities the training of junior surgeons. Junior
surgeons are more time consuming due to their inexperience and

The Origin Of The Aboriginal Noongar People
In the south west of Western Australia lay over a dozen tribes of the Noongar people. The
aboriginal Noongar tribe is one of the largest Aboriginal cultural blocks in Australia, and their
names stems from the meaning of the original inhabitants of the south west of Western Australia.
The Noongar people are deeply, spiritually connected to the earth, nature, and their ancestral past
through what they call the dreaming , or dreamtime. For Aboriginals, the Dreamtime is how their
cultural knowledge is formed and how they understand the creation of the world, passed down
traditionally through oral telling and stories. The Dreamtime is the world of their ancestors and
how the spirits were born out of darkness. One of the most well known deities/spirits and its
corresponding origin story is that of the Waugal, or the Rainbow Serpent.
The serpent is believed to be the first thing that moved across the land, making the paths in the
land such as dunes, rivers, mountains, valleys, and where the serpent stopped to rest is where
lakes and bodies of water were formed. The Noongar recognize the Waugal as the giver of life
because it mainly created waterways to provide for the people.
The story of the Waugal comes with a story of the creation of the earth, when it was dark, flat,
and featureless. The serpent is said to have awakened, aware of what would happen when he
becomes real, because how could the serpent be able to shape the earth if he was no hands or feet?

The Scandal Of Healthsouth Corporation Scandal
Introduction Organizational misconduct is the chief cause behind corporate accounting scandals.
The trusted executives of the corporation participation in actions during a scandal are corrupt,
unethical, and illegal. In the United States, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is
typically the government agency that investigates such scandals. One of the most notorious
corporate accounting scandalsin the United States is the HealthSouth Corporation scandal of 2003.
HealthSouth Corporation is one of the United States largest healthcare providers with locations
nationwide. A deeper inspection of the HealthSouth scandal is needed to understand how it
transpired by assessing how it was executed, the accounting issues and root of the issue, how it was
exposed, the results to the company and its main contributor, and ramifications as an outcome of
the scandal.
Scandal Overview In 1984, Richard Scrushy founded HealthSouth in Birmingham, Alabama.
Scrushy was the company s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) when the company went
public in 1986. HealthSouth grew quickly over the next several years. Shortly after HealthSouth
went public, it is alleged that Scrushy instructed senior staff to materially inflate the company s
earnings to match expectations. In 2002, the first sign of troubles occurred when Scrushy sold $75
million of HealthSouth stock days before HealthSouth announced a large loss. After this the SEC
began to investigate if any insider trading laws had

It would vastly change those processes. As an example, make a quick inventory of your HR
processes and put them into two categories: those that reinforce the self interest seeking behaviours
of people, and those that support their helping others. Look at concrete processes and mechanisms,
not abstractions like values which, unless translated and embedded in specific practices, have
little effect on behaviours. How long are the two lists? Can you do something to rebalance them?
One possible difficulty you may face is that you do not quite know what you can do to support
the more co operative behaviours. For example, what specific kind of incentive systems might
you use? What kind of decision making processes can you adopt? Structurally, too, what can you
do to hardwire non selfishness which is not at all the same thing as becoming a saint and not the
obverse of self sacrifice in your organisation?

Patricia Hearst and the Symboinese Liberation Army
Social status can affect a person greatly, even in criminal cases. An event pertaining an impact of
social status is the case of Patricia Hearst and the Symboinese Liberation Army. Patricia Hearst

parents did not love her. Patty Hearst was tried very publically and declared that she was not guilty,
yet the jury did not believe her. The case of Hearst it was the most public and media involved
court case that the United States had seen up to this point in time. Hearst claimed that her
actions with the SLA were a result of intimidation, fear, and brainwashing; she stated that she
had been kept in a small closet, blindfolded for two months, and was psychologically
manipulated. Her defense stated that she had no choice but to act as she did. The prosecution
denied her brainwashing claim and said that she was one of their expert witnesses a rebel in
search of a cause. The prosecution emphasized the fact that Hearst had been rebellious prior to
the kidnapping and this was just another act of her rebellion. After a 5week trial, the jury
convicted Hearst of bank robbery. Heart s very famous defense lawyer, F. Lee Bailey, said that
they lost the case for two reasons, the judge improperly allowed evidence into the trial about Hearst

Mid term Examination: Enlightenment
Enlightenment was a European intellectual movement that happened in the eighteenth century.
Before the enlightenment, medicine, technology, and people s ideas were restricted due to religion.
A group of writers and scholars wanted to use rational thinking to challenge the unknown religious
questions. But instead of just questioning religion, Enlightenment became something big and better.
It changed the way people thought of government/politics, religion, society classes, and even what
the most important qualities of being a human being were.

After the Enlightenment, there were many changes taken part. There was some end of the nobles

Carolina Panthers Essay
The Carolina Panthers had to come out of the locker room after the first half needing to get
something going if they were going to come back and beat the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl
50. The first half was dominated by the defense. Whose defense would be able to hold out for the
rest of the game would determine who would win the Super Bowl.
Denver Broncos defense king in Super Bowl 50
The first play was a run, which again, like in the first half, Denver shut down. However, the next
play Cam Newton hit Ted Ginn for 45 yards. Ginn began to be Newton s go to player. However,

On a first down pass, a penalty on the Panthers gave Denver an additional 15 yards. However,
Manning s arm was hit on the next play as he attempted a pass and Carolina recovered the ball
on the 50 yard line. The Panther offense could not capitalize on the turnover and were forced to
settle for a 39 yard field goal by Gano. This time it was good, and it inched the Panthers closer to
Denver, but they still trailed the Broncos 16 10.
As time ticked away in the fourth quarter, the Denver Broncos started working on running the
clock down. They ran the ball as much as they could then would punt the ball down the field and
count on the Broncos defense to keep Cam Newton from getting the Panther offense going. And it
worked. Von Miller, who was so big for Denver s defense in the first half, caused Newton to fumble
and the Broncos recovered the ball on the four yard line.
After a defensive hold call against Carolina, Denver s C.J. Anderson fought his way into the end
zone for Denver s first offensive touchdown of the game. This gave Denver a 24 10 lead after a
successful two point conversion. That made things tough for Carolina, with just over three minutes

Importance Of Art And Literature In The Perception Of Society
The importance of Art and Literature in the Perception of Society
Art and literature contain the power to transport one to extraordinary settings and time periods.
Depending on the novel, the reader can travel the lands of Narnia and uncover ways to prevent
bullying without even leaving the chair. Likewise, with art, one can join the Picasso era and
identify the struggles he encountered. Clearly, creative compositions aid in portraying the different
aspects of society and Miriam Toews effectively unravels this mystery in her novelThe Flying
Troutmans. The author demonstrates how art and literature helps one make sense of the world
around them by considering different perspectives, by analyzing character developments, and by
building intellect. This eventually leads to self understanding.
Art and literature become a source of guidance when one learns from the integrated insights of
human experiences. Many writers incorporate unique characters, allowing the audience to view
situations through unfamiliar perspectives and discover significant information. For example, Min,
Logan and Thebes mother, attempts suicide several times, experiences heartbreak, and eventually,
refuses to meet with her family. For Min, novels are [her] girl guide to the universe...[Her] library

suffers from a mental illness, she focuses on the protagonists who endure a comparable disorder.

Minimum Wage Persuasive Essay

financial aid for education, think of all the other financial benefits that the government offers.
Such as social security, food stamps, and healthcare. With the prosperity of our economy, these
things will be less of a burden on our government and everyday tax payers. This increase in
minimum wage will help everyone overall. Health care will become cheaper due to the fact that
companies are paying their employees a fixed rate that they can live comfortably with. As the
rate increases we will see the use of food stamps dwindle. There will be no need for these food
stamps when families can afford their groceries and necessities with their own cash, due to a

Sparrow embodies everything a trickster character should. Sparrow is very witty and often finds
himself in dangerous situations. These are often the highlights of the movie and they often

My recommendation to work family conflict is to alter the conflict that causes employees to
develop negative attitudes toward work due to an unbalanced life between their job and family,
thus this can be remedied by some of the following suggestions of implementing workplace
flexibility to allow families to plan their work lives and their family lives. Also, instituting short
term and extended leave from work as well as including paid time off for family and medical
leave and paid sick days are great benefits to reduce work family conflict. Likewise, other
recommendations include managers, allowing employees to tackle the small stuff during work
time such as taking care of household related tasks while at work, such as paying bills or
arranging plans by phone. All the more another suggestion could be to leave work early in order

The Voting Of Citizens, The Middle And Lower Class
The ruling does not encourage the majority of citizens, the middle and lower class, to become
involved in politics. Once corporations can donate to their heart s desires, regular citizens will
not be the main focus of politicians. Such can be seen in the way congressional members call
donors for hours in the Congressional Call Centers. Congressmen and women are not calling the
average citizen, but rather they are calling people who can give them a large lump sum of money.
During a talk, Senator Chris Murphy addresses money in politics, and he explains how awful the
process of gathering re electioncampaign finances is: For a senate race I m not calling anybody
who doesn t have the chance of giving me at least one thousand dollars... so you got to imagine
that the people I m calling are the folk that are making a half million to a million dollars and they
have fundamentally different problems than everyone else ( Opening Address ). The Senator
openly talks about how awful the fundraising processes in and how many members of congress
walk away because of this. The Citizens United v. Federal Election Commissioncase only increased
the amount of time congressmen and women spend away from their duties as legislators and
increases the time they are sitting in cubicles calling their donors.

taxpayers 1040 form. The question read: Do you want $3 of your federal tax to go to the

This paper seeks to explore the usefulness of Sociological Theories in explaining crime and
whether in doing so there arises implications for probation practice. I shall begin by providing a

Classicism and moving onto Positivism both which lay the foundations for the development of

Classical thinking viewed individuals as free willed rational decision makers whose choice to
commit crime was guided by hedonism, in terms of maximum pleasure for minimum pain. The
focus of Classicism was on the crime and not the social or physical chrematistics of the offender. It
was also based on what Beccaria termed a social contract , a contractual relationship between the
individual and the state to which individuals within society were bound. He believed that a social
contract drawn up by rational people would create the greatest happiness for the greatest number
(Rosher 1989, p5) and would mean that,
individuals would be willing to grant Governments the power to punish to the extent that was
necessary to protect themselves from the crimes of others (Cavadino Dignan 2002, p46).
The social contract required individuals to sacrifice a portion of their personal liberty in the interest
of common good and the purpose of the law was to ensure that common interest were met. Beccaria
proposed that perpetual servitude had a greater deterrent effect than capital punishment and would
therefore deter individuals from committing crime.
Criticisms of this school of thought spurred the emergence of Positivism. In contrast to Classicism,
Positivism aims to search for the

How Did The Atomic Bomb Cause Mass Destruction
Nuclear Bombs
Atom bombs can stop a war before it even happens. Atom bombs can cause mass destruction in a

My Goals And Strengths And Weaknesses
Brooke Point High School has been my second home for the past three years and a half. There, I
have completed three Honors English classes, and I m currently in a Dual Enrollment course. In
those three years and a half, I have witnessed my writing skills develop and improve remarkably
over time, as well as my academic growth as a writer. Like every other writer, I have both strengths
and weaknesses. I rarely experience difficulty when it comes to grammar, putting my thoughts onto
paper, and researching. However, deciding what to write about and writinganalytical papers are
some of my weaknesses I have yet to overcome. Throughout my years in school, I have managed to
figure out my strengths and weaknesses, and continue to work to improveboth. Since starting high
school, I have found myself having less trouble with grammar, organizing my thoughts onto
paper, finishing the papers assigned to me on time, and researching. Although I once struggled
greatly with grammar, I don t see it as a problem anymore. The more I proofread and review the
papers I write, the less grammatical errors I find. Despite it taking me a while to figure out how
and what I want write about for certain papers and topics, I have always found it easy to put my
thoughts onto paper. Once I know what I want to write about, the thoughts come pouring in and I
find myself writing abundantly. Even though it takes me some time to figure it out at first, I still
manage to turn in my papers on time. Another

An Explanation Of The Scientific Importance Of Human...
An Explanation of the Scientific Importance of the Human Genome Project
The human genome project is an international effort that serves as a possible solution to the
many diseases that affect billions of people worldwide. This project is a great milestone in the
field of genetics as it allows scientists to determine the sequence of genes in chromosomes which
will show where disease causing mutations are occurring and what can be done to reverse it.
Looking back in time, many of the diseases which could be cured were done by administering
drugs and certain types of therapies. As the complexity of technology as well as advancements in
the understanding of our bodies increased, more diseases became curable through these very drugs
and therapies. However, many times individuals find it hard to deal with the side effects that these
solutions create. The human genome project aims to make disease and illnesses curable more
efficiently and to become readily available to individuals throughout the world. It is therefore
necessary the that society begins to accept this project as the new frontier in medical treatment and
prevention of diseases. By having a greater investment and understanding in the Human genome
Project, the scientific community will determine more information about DNA to develop treatment
plans, prevention methods, and develop cures to diseases that affect humans; thus yielding
medically important information for society. When attempting to understand what the

One of the themes in the crucible is to always tell the true no matter what are the cosecues. In the

telling everyone that Elizabeth s was a witch,Abigail lying in the trail and the 39 girls lying about

If Abigail just would ve said what she feels for John. He wouldn t be dead and she wouldn t feel

John died all her happiness die with her. Just if Abigail would of yes to everyone she was in love

The Holy Spirit
The earliest title for the book of Acts seems to have been simply The Acts . Some have
suggested, however, that it does not mean the acts of the apostles, but the acts of the Holy Spirit
instead. Such a conclusion may seem odd, but a recognition of the importance of the Holy Spirit
in Acts is completely justified. The full title of the book of Acts may be The Acts of the
Apostles , but that title could equally well read The Acts of the Holy Spirit. (Drumwright, Holy
Spirit In The Book Of Acts. ). In the American Standard Version of Acts there are fifty six
references to the Holy Spirit. Comparing that to other portions of the New Testament, the
significance of the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts is clearly seen. The combined sixty eight
chapters of the Synoptic Gospels only have thirty four references to the Holy Spirit. The
combined thirty two chapters of Romans and 1 Corinthians, which are Paul s longest letters,
contain only forty five references to the Holy Spirit. With fifty six references to the Holy Spirit in
its twenty eight chapters, it s justified to call Acts the book of the Spirit (Drumwright, Holy Spirit
In The Book Of Acts. ). The Holy Spirit was promised by Jesusto the apostles as their power in
Luke chapter 24, verse 49. Jesus can give the Spirit to his followers because he has received the
Spirit from the Father (chapter 3 verse 16). In the book of Acts, when the Spirit came on the Day
of Pentecost, he came as the Spirit of Christ, not just in the

Reflection Of My Value
What is my value? Value is a nebulous and highly subjective concept. How do I determine the
qualities in myself and others that are desirable? What I value in others and myself may be
completely different than what others value in me and what they value about themselves. I believe
that what I find valuable in myself is a reflection of what I valuein others, which can vary
depending on the situation. Kindness, empathy, and compassion are some of the qualities I value
in others and myself. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you (Mark 7:12 Revised
Standard Version). These are words I live by every day. This phrase is not an empty platitude to
me, as I fervently believe that we reap what we sow when interacting with others.
When conflict arises, I always try to look at the situation from the other person s point of view
while also trying to communicate my own perspective and concerns. A little empathy and mutual
respect can go a long way, and I appreciate it greatly when others afford me the same
consideration. Perhaps this is why I have had success over the years working with difficult people
that others struggle to collaborate or communicate with. It is very rare for me to run across
someone with whom I cannot find some sort of common ground to build at least a passable
working relationship.
Although we learned about the possible dangers of extreme collectivism and the importance of I

Essay on James I influence in Shakespeare s Writing
After the Christian conquest across Europe during the medieval period other beliefs were restricted.
This period was very authoritarian but later the Renaissance unlocked opportunities to the
imagination and the idea of supernatural started to bloom. Although, the supernatural is sometime
mistaken with the gods of certain religions, believing in ghosts and witches was independent from
the people chosen religion. The question of the existence of the supernatural, or something bigger
than us, in 16th century Europe focused mainly on God from the Christian perspective. During this
time other supernatural characters were brought to light, affecting the politics of the monarchies as
it did during the rule of King James I in England.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tragedy of Macbeth, darker and more cynical (BBC Higher Bitesize English Background:
Revision 1), written during the Jacobean period, reflected the insecurities of the time for the
many prosecutions made by James. The idea of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s conspiracy is said
to be inspired from the Gunpowder Plot when Guy Fawkes and his men tried to blow up James
and his parliament in 1605 (BBC Higher Bitesize English Background: Revision 2). This plot
resulted in strict penalties on Roman Catholics and therefore created a feeling of terror among
the population. It is also said that Shakespeare included Banquo in Macbeth in honor of the
Stuarts: Banquo is of a political nature. It was believed at the time Macbeth was written that King
James was Banquo s direct descendant, and this presumption might have influenced Shakespeare
s characterization of Banquo as an innocent victim rather than an assassin. (Mabillard 19) At the
beginning Banquo s trust in Macbeth show the morals of a loyal friend and responsibility men as
he does not try to hurry the process of his fate reveled by the witches. Historically, in the book
Holinshed s Chronicles Banquo becomes an accomplice in the murder of King Duncan (Mabillard
17). Macbeth changes his role in Duncan s murder to show his support for King

Burke s Nakedness Of Adam And Eve
Burke identifies a norm of a naked expulsion of Adam and Eve beginning by 1500, which
contradicts the biblical account God made coats of skins and clothed them before forced to leave
the Garden of Eden. According to Burke, until about the early 15th century, all Italian iconography
of Adam and Eve expulsions were fully clothed or with covered genitalia. Afterwards, Adam and
Evewere shown to be fully naked post expulsion from the Garden as seen in Masaccio s infamous
Expulsion from Paradise (1423). Burke s ultimate observation on Adam and Eve s portrayal of
nakedness after being expelled from Eden is that it serves a purpose beyond the fall of man. An
array of various classical texts, Vitruvius On Architecture (c. 15th), Diodorus Library of History
(Latin: 1450) and Lucretius s De Rerum Natura (Bracciolini: 1417) which described early human
development as naked, wretched and animalistic supports an argument for symbolic... Show more

Man s nakedness (i.e. Adam and Eve) symbolically represents his essential state (On Literary
Polish 1462), the ability to rise and fall (Oration of the Dignity of Mankind 1486), to create
civilization (On Discovery 1499), to rise from bestial conditions, the potential to be clothed, to
create dwellings, to craft (Book of Craftsman 1400), to be the first achiever in the entire course of
human history. According to Burke, it serves a functional purpose to portray such nakedness, since
it visually identifies the couple Adam and Eve from other historical figures in the cycles of uomini
famosi during the Quattrocento as well as speaks to the continual potential of man to clothe
himself, naturally leading to other human

The Different Lighting Techniques In The Film Touch Of Evil
In the scene provided from the movie touch of evil there are many different lighting techniques
used throughout the clip each one of these different lighting set ups is used for a different reason
either to set a mood or even put emphasis on a certain subject this paper will discuss the different
techniques used in the touch of evil scene
A prime example of cameo lighting is within the first 5 to 10 seconds of the film there s a key light
shining from the side of the characters to create deep and very dense shadows on the side of their
features as well as some other shadows this is just enough light to show some scenery in the
background but it s very very little this is a prime example of cameo lighting
Around second 23 of the film Rembrandt lighting is used Rembrandt lighting is lighting that
focuses on selective illumination in small amounts of background lighting there s also some
transparency in the shadows that are created so more than likely a key light and a fill light are used

Chapel and was completed in 1850 to replace the original church which was destroyed in the War
with Mexico by the U.S. Army in 1847. The ruins of that church that was built in 1619 can still
be seen at the pueblo s graveyard. That church had also been destroyed previously during the
Pueblo Revolt of 1680 which was led by the Indians of Taos Pueblo. St. Jerome is the patron saint

market to the airline industry is the British Airways (BA). British Airways is regarded as one of the
UK s largest international scheduled airline. It is known for being such because of the strategies
imposed by the management of the airline industry. One of the strategies utilized by British

  • 2. The Core Values Of Zappos The holacratic model has, already, been adopted by for profit and non profit organizations in several countries. For the purpose of an incubation chamber, Zappos.com has been the first organizational reality to deploy it. Zappos is an online shoe and clothing shop founded in 1999 and owned by Amazon since 2009. During the negotiations with Amazon, internal management s primary concern was to maintain the company culture intact throughout the acquisition process, because a culture that embraces the idiosyncrasies of each individual is what keeps the firm alive and healthy. Such an emphasis on employees manifested itself in drawing up the ten core values of the Zappos family: deliver wow through service; embrace and drive change; create fun and a little weirdness; be adventurous, creative, and open minded; pursue growth and learning; build open and honest relationships with communication; build a positive team and family spirit; do more with less; be passionate and determined; be humble. The company has, even, its own consulting unit to help others emulate the Zappos way and folklore. In 2015, Zappos formerly adopted Holacracy. One of Holacracy s most significant innovations is making governance something that happens at every level of the organization. Governance becomes an ongoing process that happens in each circle, during the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Effects Of The Amistad Revolt On July 2, 1839, 53 hostage Africans on board the Amistad, a slave ship, broke out of their chains and snuck up to the primary deck, where they overpowered and killed two crewmembers and incapacitated the rest. Having hence seized control of the ship, they endeavored to cruise back to their country, just to be deluded into traveling north rather than east. Throughout the following two months, they went around 1,400 miles from Cuba to Long Island, New York, until the point when the Naval force lifted them up and re imprisoned them. The Amistad was not the only slave revolt, but one of the most significant. This revolt was an integral part of slave history because it brought attention to the issue of slavery, inspired many, and helped establish laws and court systems today. This Revolt brought attention to the issue of slavery. From the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries, approximatelyn expected 12 million Africans were persuasively dispatched over the Atlantic Sea to the New World. Of those, no less than 1.5 million are said to have died before reaching shore. Many states had made the importation of slaves illegal. However, since bondage itself stayed lawful in the greater part of those spots, unlawful exercises flourished. Along the shore of present day Sierra Leone, for instance, Spanish slave merchant Pedro Blanco kept his business thriving with the assistance of a capable nearby pioneer who gathered together his human freight. This was a legal, and lucrative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Metacognition and Transfer of Learning Suppose that a student learns a mathematical procedure such as how to find the area of a parallelogram. Later, when the student is given a parallelogram problem like the one he or she has studied, he or she is able to find its area correctly. In short, the student shows that she can perform well on a retention test. However, when this student is asked to find the area of an unusually shaped parallelogram, he or she looks confused and answers We haven t had this yet . In short, the student shows that she cannot perform well on a transfer test, which is applying what she has learned to a new situation (Mayer, 2001) Unfortunately, mastering a component skill is not enough to support non routine problem solving. Students need to know not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast, backward reaching transfer occurs when one is faced with a problem and looks back on what he or she has learned in other situations to help in this new situation. Factors that contribute to transfer of learning Initial Learning Without an adequate level of initial learning, transfer cannot be expected (Mestre, 2002). The importance of initial learning was illustrated by a series of studies designed to access the effects of learning to program in the computer language LOGO. When initial learning was accessed, it was found that students often had not learned enough about LOGO to provide a basis for transfer (Bransford, Brown, and Cocking, 1999). Many studies that have failed to produce transfer have resulted from insufficient opportunities for students to learn efficiently in the first place (Mestre, 2002). Understanding Transfer is also affected by the degree to which people learn with understanding rather than merely memorizing. Judd s classic studies of learning to throw darts at underwater targets would be a perfect exampled of how understanding is positively correlated with transfer. In sum, Judd s studies demonstrated the value of learning with understanding rather than simply mimicking a set of fixed procedures (Bransford ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. What My Bike Has Taught Me About White Privilege The Article The article What My Bike Has Taught Me About White Privilege by J. Dowsett talks about how there is a white privilege in today s world even if people want to deny it. He used the analogy of bike riders being the minorities and automobile drivers being white. Most automobile drives do not think about the bike riders, they are not men to them they just do not cross there mind and because of that they might mistreat. There are also the automobiledrivers that go out of their way to be mean to the bike riders just because they are driving a car so they feel superior. Traditional and Alternative Perspectives Post Positivist Post Positivist see issues from a perspective that knowledge is key. Post Positivist have to have a strong base to start from. The example from class was that it is like a pyramid, in order to be able to come to a conclusion or the top of the pyramid they must establish a strong base. This base is made out of research. Reality is something that we can understand and capture probabilistically using the right tools (Schriver, 2011:126). They believe that with the right about of research they can come to an answer that fits best. Traditional interpreted. A traditional Post Positivist would see this article in the manner that not much research was made when this article was made and that therefore it could not be a sound article until there was more done to it. • 7. Jane Austen s Sense and Sensibility Essays Love comes in many shapes and forms, whether it s an inanimate object or a person you want to spend the rest of your life with. Jane Austen s novel, Sense and Sensibility , revolves around two sisters who try to find true love, while requiring a balance of reason and emotion. Elinor and Marianne Dashwood are viewed as two completely different people. Elinor is known to represent sense while Marianne represents sensibility. In the novel, Jane Austen emphasizes two common women s characteristics, and shows us how Elinor and Marianne both find love and happiness only by overcoming their struggles and learning from one another s actions and mistakes. It is clear that Marianne and Elinor are in fact two completely different people as we... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was in love in a matter of minutes, Everything he said was clever. (Austen 46). this shows how quickly she opened her heart into loving a man, putting feelings before logic. Marianne is so drowned by her passions that she does not even stop to think that Willoughby and her may not and will not be engaged (Manukyan). The sisters develop heartbreaks by their two love interests and it sheds light on how their emotions change the plot of the story. Both Elinor and Marianne get their hearts broken by the men they loved. In the beginning, Elinor meets a man named Edward Ferrars and the two immediately click almost like they were meant for one another. They soon face troubles when they find out others don t find them good enough for each other. Marianne tells Elinor that she finds Edward too dull, while Edwards s mother doesn t approve of them being together. Putting others aside, the feelings between them begin to grow and we start to question if they are falling in love. Eventually, Elinor and her family end up moving to Barton Cottage, causing things with Edward to become complicated. They begin to communicate less, and Marianne finds it strange that Edward had not came to visit Elinor yet. • 8. Thou Blind Man s Mark Analysis In the poem Thou Blind Man s Mark by Sir Philip Sidney, the speaker is struggling with his desire for someone or something. They are fighting this feeling for control over his thoughts and mind. It is shown that both the speaker and desire are constantly fighting, with neither fully able to take control. This fact is evident through Sidney s use of violent diction, personification of desire, and oxymorons. First, the diction of the poem is very violent. The words used are harsh and show that the speaker is engaged in a war against his desire. For example, on line 14 it states, Desiring naught but to kill desire (Sidney 14). The word kill is very intense and shows that the speaker feels that the only way to destroy their desire is to murder it. Thus, ending the fight they are stuck engaging in. This idea was earlier introduced in line 6, which says, With price of mangled mind, thy worthless ware (6)[.] The words mangled and worthless are further proof of this battle. Desire is leaving their mind in a mess, as is shown in the word mangled which gives off the image of something being tangled and unable to be separated. Likewise, because his mind is a mess, his thoughts are seemingly useless as shown through the use of worthless. The wares, or valuable objects, in this case are the speaker s thoughts and ideas. Their constant battle with desire has left their thoughts to be filled with nothing but thoughts of desire and those trying to subdue it, thus leaving his mind ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Pros And Cons Of Imunizing Children Immunizing Children One of the most controversial choices today is the choice to choose whether or not to immunize children. Things to take into consideration when making this decision are the risks involved in not immunizing children and some of the reasons against immunizing. The risks involved in not immunizing children is that the child will not be protected against serious illnesses and diseases. One of the reasons people choose not to immunize is that they are afraid it will traumatize or hurt their child, but it s one or two injection pricks, opposed to a life time of multiple blood draws and lumbar punctures (spinal taps) every time their child gets a rash or fever. If a child is not immunized they would need to be tested every time for the diseases every time they got sick. Another reason people choose against immunizations is a lack of health care. Though this is not so much choosing against the immunizations, it is more they do not have the resources to choose immunizations. But here in the United States children especially do not go without at least the basic health care. The United States is behind many countries on health care but we are also not a third world country. We do have access to great health care and we make it available to those in need. We have Medicaid, WIC (Womens, Infants, Childrens), we have free clinics and many more resources to make sure children are protected. The most common reason right now for people to choose ... More than two million cases can be found altogether in psychiatric and psychological records of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID); previously called Multiple Personality Disorder. Dissociative Identity Disorder exists as a peculiar mental disorder in which a person possesses two or more evident and distinctive personalities. Through accounts like the movie Sybil, this disorder received much attention worldwide completely altering our previous ideas about Multiple Identity Disorder. The movie Sybil is based on a true story of a shy, college student, working as a substitute teacher in New York City; who after years of memory loss and a cut hand found herself in a hospital being treated by a doctor recommending psych evaluation. The most self destructive of the personalities, Marsha, aims to kill Sybil (suicide). In all Sybil, the host, is thought to have sixteen different selves. Though all the personalities do not come at the same time. Sybil suffers from a severe case of Dissociative Identity Disorder. Dissociative Identity Disorder is a chronic form of dissociation, a mental illness which manufactures a lack of connection between a person s thoughts, feelings, actions, memories, or sense of self (MPD). DID is associated with two or more distinct identities, or personality states, that reside in and alternately take control of an individual. The person s behavior is determined by the personality that is dominant at a given time. The person also experiences memory loss that is too extensive to be explained by ordinary forgetfulness. A victim that survives with DID will endure lost time (amnesia) or black out spells, which may lead to denial of their disease and forgetfulness of events and/or experiences. This can promote allegations of lying and manipulation which may lead to confusion for the undiagnosed DID sufferer (MPD). Most patients, when they first enter treatment, most MPD victims are not aware of the existence of other personalities. Other symptoms for DID include: the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Causes Of Water Pollution In The Huangpu River Pollution of Water in the Huangpu River Introduction The Huangpu River is located in Shanghai, China. Goes through Shanghai from South West to North East. It is the water supply to the 13 million people in the city. It also serves importance for tourism, fishery, navigation, and, most importantly, receiving wastewater. In the mid 1980s, a control plan for the pollution in the Huangpu River was made. But exactly how polluted is the Huangpu River? Causes of Pollution (5) (Pollution of the Huangpu River by percentage (5)) There are four attributes to the pollution of the Huangpu River. First, wastewater discharged to the Huangpu River contains large amount of organic substances, which create a significant demand for dissolved oxygen in the water. Second, about 81 per cent of the total waterways in the city are polluted. Third, the most serious pollution occurs in the urban section, particularly at the water intake points for the Nanshi Water Treatment Plant and the Yangpu Water Treatment Plant. Finally, the tidal nature of Huangpu River restricts the release of organic pollutants to downstream stretches. Wrote the study case that was prepared by Chonghua Zhang and published on behalf of the United Nations Environment Programme, the Water Supply Sanitation Collaborative Council and the World Health Organization by E. When the radiation resistance of the antenna matches the resistance of the transmitter or receiver, the system is optimized. Antennas also have ohmic or loss resistance which decreases efficiency. It can be shown that an efficient antenna must be comparable to a wavelength in size. (4.6) A second parameter of antennas is the Antenna pattern. This gives a distribution of radiated power as a function of direction in space. Generally, planar sections of the radiation pattern will be shown instead of the complete three dimensional surface. The most important views are those of the principal E plane and H plane patterns. The E plane pattern contains the plane in which the electric field lies. Similarly, the H plane pattern is a sectional view in which the magnetic field lies. • 16. Canterbury Tales and Religion Gilbert RuizGreat Texts Dr. Coleman FanninEssay 3 Satirizing the Greed of the Holy Church The Canterbury Tales was written during a time of religious unrest. Corruption and greed infiltrated the Church beyond the point of correction. Chaucer would have been well aware of these issues growing up as a diplomat in fourteenth century England. His familiarity of the systems and interactions between high ranking officials in the court and the church make him a reputable source of criticism of the church and its affiliates. At a time when indulgences and monetary incentives were at a peak in Christian churches, Chaucer used his poetic prowess and political understanding to critique and ridicule how perturbed the Church had... Certainly a lady so disturbed by the death of a mouse might have trouble telling the tale of a boy whose throat Jews slit, yet this is exactly what she does. She begins by requesting that the Virgin Mary ...guide the song that [she] shall sing. This is strange because surely the Virgin Mary should not be associated with anti Semitics and murder of little Christian boys. This peculiar coupling represents how dichotic her personality is; she claims to live a life of piety, yet goes on to sin and ignore the needs of others. The story is interesting because although the young boy does exactly what is expected of young Christian boys (singing and praising God), Jews hear his singing and hire an assassin to Grab him and [hold] him in a cruel grip, and cut his throat and [throw] him in a pit. Chaucer is choosing to satirize how ridiculous it is for the Prioress to be blaming Jews. It is very easy and obvious for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However due to the latex patient it was rescheduled to be the second procedure, but because of the lack of strycker stack system, all the VAT had to be brought forward resulting in upper lobectomy being booked as the fourth case. Regardless of its delay, the ICU bed would still not be available if the surgery was to be performed fourth, thus the bronchoscopy surgery was conducted prior to the upper lobectomy procedure, in order to preserve time. If this case was done before, then the patient would have had to be kept in the theatre, thus impeding on the time available to perform the following surgeries. Hence, by rescheduling the list to allow the upper lobectomy case to be conducted fifth, it allowed the smoother flow of surgeries while exhibiting a more efficient time management. As time consumption was also reduced, it decreased the cost as it increased the amount of patients treated with the same resource (Officer of the Auditor General (OAG) 2015). However, despite the time management, the theatre went overtime. My suggestion would be to allow for recreational days that provide opportunities for social interaction among one another and that are set aside for employees to have access to small arts and crafts or simply a small gathering with food to take a moment away from work. My recommendation to work family conflict is to alter the conflict that causes employees to develop negative attitudes toward work due to an unbalanced life between their job and family, thus this can be remedied by some of the following suggestions of implementing workplace flexibility to allow families to plan their work lives and their family lives. Also, instituting short term and extended leave from work as well as including paid time off for family and medical leave and paid sick days are great benefits to reduce work family conflict. Likewise, other recommendations include managers, allowing employees to tackle the small stuff during work time such as taking care of household related tasks while at work, such as paying bills or arranging plans by phone. All the more another suggestion could be to leave work early in order to take care of family responsibilities, or coming in earlier or taking work home to accomplish the needed work. Equally important to emphasize is the fact that many households entail both parents working and thus there is not sufficient amounts of time being spent with family for recreational activities and just the idea of spending time with one another. Once corporations can donate to their heart s desires, regular citizens will not be the main focus of politicians. Such can be seen in the way congressional members call donors for hours in the Congressional Call Centers. Congressmen and women are not calling the average citizen, but rather they are calling people who can give them a large lump sum of money. During a talk, Senator Chris Murphy addresses money in politics, and he explains how awful the process of gathering re electioncampaign finances is: For a senate race I m not calling anybody who doesn t have the chance of giving me at least one thousand dollars... so you got to imagine that the people I m calling are the folk that are making a half million to a million dollars and they have fundamentally different problems than everyone else ( Opening Address ). The Senator openly talks about how awful the fundraising processes in and how many members of congress walk away because of this. The Citizens United v. Federal Election Commissioncase only increased the amount of time congressmen and women spend away from their duties as legislators and increases the time they are sitting in cubicles calling their donors. The Usefulness of Sociological Theories in Explaining Crime and the Control of Crime This paper seeks to explore the usefulness of Sociological Theories in explaining crime and whether in doing so there arises implications for probation practice. Classical thinking viewed individuals as free willed rational decision makers whose choice to commit crime was guided by hedonism, in terms of maximum pleasure for minimum pain. The focus of Classicism was on the crime and not the social or physical chrematistics of the offender. It was also based on what Beccaria termed a social contract , a contractual relationship between the individual and the state to which individuals within society were bound. He believed that a social contract drawn up by rational people would create the greatest happiness for the greatest number (Rosher 1989, p5) and would mean that, individuals would be willing to grant Governments the power to punish to the extent that was necessary to protect themselves from the crimes of others (Cavadino Dignan 2002, p46). The social contract required individuals to sacrifice a portion of their personal liberty in the interest of common good and the purpose of the law was to ensure that common interest were met. Beccaria proposed that perpetual servitude had a greater deterrent effect than capital punishment and would therefore deter individuals from committing crime. Criticisms of this school of thought spurred the emergence of Positivism. In contrast to Classicism, Positivism aims to search for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. The Holy Spirit The earliest title for the book of Acts seems to have been simply The Acts . Some have suggested, however, that it does not mean the acts of the apostles, but the acts of the Holy Spirit instead. Such a conclusion may seem odd, but a recognition of the importance of the Holy Spirit in Acts is completely justified. The full title of the book of Acts may be The Acts of the Apostles , but that title could equally well read The Acts of the Holy Spirit. (Drumwright, Holy Spirit In The Book Of Acts. ). In the American Standard Version of Acts there are fifty six references to the Holy Spirit. Comparing that to other portions of the New Testament, the significance of the Holy Spirit in the book of Acts is clearly seen. The combined sixty eight chapters of the Synoptic Gospels only have thirty four references to the Holy Spirit. The combined thirty two chapters of Romans and 1 Corinthians, which are Paul s longest letters, contain only forty five references to the Holy Spirit. With fifty six references to the Holy Spirit in its twenty eight chapters, it s justified to call Acts the book of the Spirit (Drumwright, Holy Spirit In The Book Of Acts. ). The Holy Spirit was promised by Jesusto the apostles as their power in Luke chapter 24, verse 49. What I value in others and myself may be completely different than what others value in me and what they value about themselves. I believe that what I find valuable in myself is a reflection of what I valuein others, which can vary depending on the situation. Kindness, empathy, and compassion are some of the qualities I value in others and myself. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you (Mark 7:12 Revised Standard Version). These are words I live by every day. This phrase is not an empty platitude to me, as I fervently believe that we reap what we sow when interacting with others. When conflict arises, I always try to look at the situation from the other person s point of view while also trying to communicate my own perspective and concerns. A little empathy and mutual respect can go a long way, and I appreciate it greatly when others afford me the same consideration. Perhaps this is why I have had success over the years working with difficult people that others struggle to collaborate or communicate with. It is very rare for me to run across someone with whom I cannot find some sort of common ground to build at least a passable working relationship. The tragedy of Macbeth, darker and more cynical (BBC Higher Bitesize English Background: Revision 1), written during the Jacobean period, reflected the insecurities of the time for the many prosecutions made by James. The idea of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth s conspiracy is said to be inspired from the Gunpowder Plot when Guy Fawkes and his men tried to blow up James and his parliament in 1605 (BBC Higher Bitesize English Background: Revision 2). This plot resulted in strict penalties on Roman Catholics and therefore created a feeling of terror among the population. It is also said that Shakespeare included Banquo in Macbeth in honor of the Stuarts: Banquo is of a political nature. It was believed at the time Macbeth was written that King James was Banquo s direct descendant, and this presumption might have influenced Shakespeare s characterization of Banquo as an innocent victim rather than an assassin.
