Essay about Acoustic Theory and Synthesis
Acoustic Theory and Synthesis
Frequency:
Frequency means the number of cycles per second and depending on the amount of cycles per second
determines how high or low pitched the sound is and the time that it takes to complete one cycle is
called the period. Frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz). And An average human is able to hear sounds
between 20Hz and 20,000Hz.
As the cycles per second increases, the smaller the wavelengths become, therefore there is a higher
frequency which will cause the pitch of the sound to increase or get higher.
If there is frequency of say 20KHz then it is going to be a much higher pitch than a 20Hz because
there is a lot more cycles per second.
Fundamentals:
A fundamental is the lowest frequency ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sustain: This is how long the volume is sustained for during the main event of the sound. Release: The
is how long it take for the sound to fade out. An Example of a slow and fast release can be found on
track 7 and 8 of my logic session which is with my assessment. Filters: Filters can either emphasize or
reduce some frequencies from a signal. There are different types of filters that can be used. There are
different types of filters that can be used. There are also filters that can reject frequencies within a
certain frequency band e.g. band bass or band reject.
High Pass Filter: A High Pass filter lets through all the frequencies above the cutoff and eliminates the
ones below the cutoff frequency. An example of a HPF can be found on track 10 of my logic session. !
Low Pass Filter: A Low Pass filter lets through the frequencies below the cutoff frequency and
eliminates the ones above it. An Example of a low pass filter can be found on track 9 of my logic
session which is with my assessment.

Criteria For A Nobel Prize
Criteria for a Nobel Prize in Leadership Alan Weber (2009) wrote an article for the Washington Post,
that focused on the criteria that one might use to suggest a nominee. In his article, Weber offered that
candidacy for the prize should not be base upon achievement broadly defined, or abstract qualities that
can be attributed to leaders, but clear and undeniable moral authority (Weber, 2009, para.1). Cook
(2009) added that he would choose a nominee who has pretty much transcended his or her own ego,
and who sees humanity as interconnected in a vast system to which we all, ultimately, are contributing
(Cook, 2009, para.4). While these points provide a good starting point for selection the development
of selection criteria, I have demined that any individual who would be a candidate for a Nobel Prize in
Pauline Leadership should be characterized by the following the following:
Demonstrated Christ Centered Core Values
Unwavering Sense of Mission and Purpose
Alignment of Character, Ethics, and Actions (Bradberry Greaves, 2012)
Servant Orientation
Leads by Example
Humility
Self Discipline (Lee, 2003)
Equipping or Developing Others (Lee, 2003)
Lasting Concern for the Broader Community
Influence and Impact
Explanation of the First Nobel Laureate As Lutheran Pastor, it should not be a surprise that I have
chosen the 16th Century Reformer Martin Luther as the first Nobel Laureate in Pauline Leadership.

Nonconformism In The Portrait Of A Lady By Henry James
Throughout history, people have always obeyed rules predetermined for their lives by society in order
to maintain status and respect in their communities. In the 1800s, women were strivers to their
husbands and family, and were set to devote themselves entirely to that cause. In his 1881 romance
novel, The Portrait of a Lady, Henry James provides challenges the concept of female individuality in
society through the protagonist, Isabel Archer, who emphasizes how miserable obeying the status quo
makes her; Nevertheless, Archer ignores her innermost desires to please the demands of society and of
her wicked husband. The empathetic narration of the novel highlights the nonconformist theme James
embedded throughout.
Isabel s life with her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, Isabel chooses to remain in her miserable marriage to Osmond rather than to violate
custom by leaving him and searching for a happier life. This decision makes the novel a social
commentary on the status quo of women being more important than their own emotions in the 1800s.
The portrait of Isabel changes from that of an independent young woman to a lady that wears a mask
to conceal her emotions. The strength of Isabel s character is tainted once she is exposed to a toxic
man in her life. Originally, Isabel abided by societal expectations for women, but knew that she did
not need to do so to be comfortable with herself. She states, Possibly; but I don t care to be judged by
that. My clothes may express the dressmaker, but they don t express me. To begin with it s not my
own choice that I wear them; they re imposed upon me by society. (James 352). Isabel starts off as a
strong character who knows her worth and her perspective on society is constant. Notably, as the story
develops, Isabel is changed by her marriage. James shows her new perspective by stating, She thinks
she knows everything; but she doesn t understand a woman of my modern type. It would be so much
easier for her if I were only a little better or a little worse. She s so puzzled; I believe she thinks it s my
duty to go and do something immoral. (James 1012). Fundamentally, Isabel knew remaining
independent and single was what she needed to stay true to

Becoming A Good Baseball Player
Establishing teamwork on and off the field is a skill that of which I excel at. This past year we had
teammates of all ages. We had 4 seniors, two of which did not get to play very often and sat the bench;
I tried to keep them upbeat and positive even though they didn t get much playing time.
There were were four of us Juniors. We were not only playing on the Varsity team; we played JV to
help out the younger less athletic players.
We had three Sophomores and two Freshman that came up in the ranks to play Varsity; they didn t
need encouragement on the field; but they needed to learn how we encourage even the less talented
players and not boast and brag about how much better we were than them.
One of the teammates I think I ve learned the most from is our player who is autistic. He started
playing his Sophomore year. We have seen him come from not being able to hold a bat or a glove to
actually catching balls and hitting them and making it on base to eventually scoring. This is where
working as a team brought us together to make the player with the least ability enjoy and actually
playing the game; even though at times it hurt our score; it made another individual feel good about
himself. When he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

takes hard work and dedication and a lot of time commitment. Learning all of the aspects of a bank

along side with individuals that I have never met before. But; that is how it is on the field. You work

Violence Against Women Is An Old Fashioned Practice
Throughout the years, violence against women has become a national issue, often referred to as a
hidden epidemic by Amnesty International, which spreads through social, cultural and ethnic areas.
The cost of sexual and domestic violence creates a ripple effect throughout today s society; for
example, discrimination of race, ethnicity, and age prevents women from obtaining any form of
justice. Violence against women is an old fashioned practice, but in the last decade it finally received
recognition as a serious human rights issue. Violence against women is categorized into two parts:
social violence, which occurs in public places between strangers, and domestic violence, which takes
place within households and usually between family members. A prevalent and particular problem
area includes psychological issues; women become depressed, isolate themselves, develop sexually
transmitted diseases (STDs), commit suicide, depend on drugs and alcohol, develop poor reproductive
health, and become incapable of supporting their families. Men and children are at risk of becoming
perpetrators due to exposure of violence within households, low education, and childhood abuse.
Education plays an important role in today s society about spreading awareness of violence against
women. The World Health Organization, the Avon Foundation for Women, and Amnesty International,
and the producers/authors of Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women
Worldwide are some of many

Case Study Formula 1
Q1. What do you need in order to succeed in Formula One? The case studies emphasise that all three
racing teams focussed on different strategies. Their strategies changed within the environment and
circumstances, but what is overwhelmingly evident is that a team needs all the elements to be in
synergy and for focus to be on every aspect of the strategy. As the old adage, A team is only as strong
as its weakest link. This means that in order to be successful and to maintain success, you ve got to get
all the elements right, the overall package, the budget, the designer, the engine, the drivers, the
organisation and every aspect, from what is deemed most important to the least important, all play an

Whilst all of these technological developments were taking place in the F1 arena, Ferrari chose to
focus on it s long term strategy which focused on the development of the V6 turbocharged engine.
This essentially meant that their drivers were now competing with cars that no longer held a
competitive advantage, in fact the cars were now considered inferior. The fundamental flaw in this
instance was that Ferrari had ignored the change in trends in the immediate environment and stuck to
what they felt worked. The strategy was to exploits their strengths but neglected the opportunities that
presented themselves. They had failed to respond to an immediate threat, thus exposing their
weaknesses and allowing themselves to retrogress to the extent that Ferrari was no longer considered a
threat. This was further compounded by the problems that were being experienced between Audetto
and Laude, Ferrari s strength was derived somewhat from the relationship between Team Boss and
Driver and with Audetto not being able to accomplish this, it impacted on the performance of the
team. In addition, the heavy reliance on the driver, meant that the team was left at the mercy of it s
driver, this was evident when Laude was unable to compete for six weeks, this allowed the
competition to close in on the lead that Ferrari had established. What

Twin Stereotypes
Splitting Up is Never Easy For most people they have the idea of twins being two peas in a pod or
have a bond that makes them as if they were one. The stereotype is very accurate most twins dress,
talk, and look the same. However if you were to meet my sister and I you would never guess we are
twins. Lauren, my sister does not resemble me at all. We have different facial features, hair, and
personality. When we were very little my mom would dress us alike everyday even our pajamas were
the same. I can still remember our mom dressing us for the first day of school. The overalls were a
charcoal grey with our favorite little mouse with a pretty bright red bow in her hair. Along with our
clothes matching we also had to have our hair fixed into

I Speak Through My Clothes
I speak through my clothes. (Hebdige, 1993: 100, quoting Eco, 1973) Fashion is one of the ways that
one creates identity. In particular, since the rise of youth culture in the 1960s fashion has become... a
way of defining one s identity or else a way of avoiding such definition . (Gonzalez Bovone, 2012: 23)
The 1960s saw a rise in mass production of consumerism fashion, and has been used as a form of
expressing ones identity; whether it be inspired or interpreted from religion, social status, habitus,
gender, cultural icons, or subcultures (such as punk, pastel goth, hipster, etc.) Crane states in Fashion
and its Social Agendas, that due to the availability of inexpensive clothing... that those with limited
resources can find or create personal styles that express their perceptions of their identities (Crane,
2000: 6); the consumer is expected to construct an individualised appearance from a variety of
options. (Crane, 2000: 155) However, Polhemus argues that Fashion is an arbitrary language system
where things are really what they appear to be (Polhemus, 2011: 49), suggesting that fashion is a tool
used for illusion. Bovone contributes, stating that On the stage of everyday life, the performer declares
what he is... his image is at stake and he is involved in a continuous negotiation with his fellow
performers and the audience. (Gonzalez Bovone, 2012: 72) Polhemus and Bovone both illustrate that
whilst fashion helps to create identity, it is not a reliable

INTRODUCTION
It has been shown that in the United States approximately 50 million adults have primary high blood
pressure (BP) or essential hypertension.(1,2) One in seven people can expect to have high BP at some
time during their life. A substantial reduction in life span is seen even for borderline hypertension.(3)
In this case study the patient demonstrates essential hypertension. Essential hypertension accounts for
80 95% of high blood pressure cases and applies to individuals with elevated blood pressure and no
demonstrable cause, whereas secondary hypertension is named for causes where the causative factors
are known.(2,3) Essential hypertension is thought to be a multifaceted disease with abnormalities of
regulatory mechanism normally associated with control of blood volume, sodium excretion, cardiac
output, and systemic vascular resistance.(4) Hypertension has been shown to be one of the most
common reasons for visits to primary care providers.(1) Hypertension remains one of the most
modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular disease globally. Non modifiable risk factors for
hypertension include greater than 55 years old and male. Family history of premature cardiovascular
disease is also a risk factor for males less than 55 and females less than 65 years old. Risk factors that
can be modified include sedentary lifestyle, poor dietary habits, abdominal obesity, abnormal

As I mentioned earlier, there were 2 trials that we performed for each solution, and each trial had a
different concentration. We did this to see what the pH change would be like for changing
concentrations. For mandelic acid, as molarity increased, so did the K SUB a /SUB , but the pH value
went down. This shows that as the concentration increased, so did the strength of the acid, which is
shown in the K SUB a /SUB value increasing. The more acid there is, the stronger the solution will be,
as well as increasing the ability to dissociate. As the concentration increased, the acidity value
decreased. This means that the solution became more acidic the more acid preset, the more acidic the
solution is. But, despite the fact that the K SUB a /SUB increased, it was by such a small amount that
it is still considered a weak acid. The same changes could be found in the trials that involved acetic
acid. As the concentration of the solution increased, so did the K SUB a /SUB , but the pH value went
down. And the reasons as such are the same for acetic acid as they were for mandelic acid. Despite the
change in K SUB a /SUB value, acetic acid is still considered a weak acid.

Why The Chemical Elements Are Given A Unique Atomic Number
All the chemical elements are given a unique atomic number; copper is the 29 atomic numbers. Atoms
are made of three kinds of smaller particles, called protons, neutrons and electrons the atomic number
is the number of protons in the atom. Each element is first identified at room temperature and pressure
as being solid, liquid or gas therefore copper is a solid. Elements, like copper, have other properties
and characteristics physical properties can be observed and measured whereas chemical properties is
how an element reacts with other substances. Copper is capable of being bent and shaped also it can
be easily pulled or stretched into thin wire. Copper has a shine to it; it is an excellent transmission of
heat and electricity since it is a good conductor. The maximum density of Copper is 8.96 g/cm3.
Copper is a ductile metal with high thermal and electrical conductivity. Ductility is a measure of how
much pressure a metal can take before breaking apart. A metal with high malleability will be able to be
drawn into long, thin wires without rupturing whereas a metal with low malleability will be brittle,
although it may be strong, once it deforms enough, it will rupture. Most metals like Copper, gold,
silver and aluminum are malleable because atoms can roll over each other and retain the structure of
crystal, a function of metallic bonding. Copper is a pinkish color when it is new, but soon turns a
reddish orange color after it is exposed to air, it is soft and bendy.

Major Depressive Disorder ( Mdd )
Introduction Major depressive disorder (MDD) is currently labeled one of the world s greatest health
problems, with an estimated prevalence of 4.7% and the second highest cause of years lived with a
disability in 2010. The economic impact on patients with MDD is extensive particularly in patients
that do not respond to treatment. Severe MDD can lead to loss of productivity and increase mortality.
There remain several antidepressant treatments (ADTs) available to patients with MDD, but there is a
significant minority that do not respond to first line treatments. Secondary treatment options, including
changing the current ADT or adding another ADT to the treatment regimen, such as a second
generation antipsychotic. Currently, aripiprazole and quetiapine are the approved therapies in the
United States for unresponsive MDD patients, including the adjunctive usage of fluoxetine and
olanzapine. Their efficacy has been proven countless times in randomized controlled trials of these
agents, but their tolerability profiles has limited their clinical usage. Side effects fluctuate between
medications, but most regularly comprise of akathisia for aripiprazole, increased appetite and weight
gain for olanzapine fluoxetine combination, and excessive sedation for quetiapine. Weight gain can be
a particularly menacing side effect as it increases a patient s overall risk of metabolic abnormalities;
extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) which is equally linked with eventual risk of tardive

What Is The Theme Of Ode To The Nightingale By John Keats
Ode to the Nightingale, John Keats The lyrical poem Ode to the Nightingale was written in 1819 by an
English poet, John Keats. Beside Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley, he is classified as one of the
main leaders of the late Romanticism. „This movement emphasize the method in which the author
describes the contrast between reality and dreams, he creates exceptional characters and use a lot of
subjective emotions is his poems. (Štěpaník, 16) In comparison to his contemporary authors Byron
and Shelley, John Keats did not describe much of the social conditions in his works. Probably he did
not want „to be the savior of the world, did not want to dream about the future of mankind and did not
want to judge social injustice (Klein, 30) as much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I appreciate the usage the small bird as a symbol which can provoke such deep thoughts about our life.
For me, the nightingale s song is the symbols of beauty which should be really enjoyed. It is this small
bird who is free to fly wherever it wants to, singing its beautiful song and making the world better and
nicer for us. I really like the whole idea of John Keats having a moment for himself listening to this
sweet song and thinking about it and its originator. Our life can sometimes be a little bit stressful.
People deals with stress in different kinds of way. One of them can be savouring of those moments
that feels really nice, in which we can be left alone to our thoughts. I think that it is really important to
always look on the brighter side of life. My life is sacred to me. I feel that people are given lives for
some reason and it should be their duty to try to live in the best possible way. Those small moments,
sometimes similar to the one John Keats experienced in the garden of his friend Charles Brown while
listening to the nightingale5, are also important. These moments can compensate for the suffering
which sometimes comes to our days. Life is a precious thing and we should savour it like the smallest
breath of air. We should not waste our time and energy on bad things which will not matter in the end.
One moment our life is in our lungs and in a few seconds it fades away.

Houston City s History And Background
In this group project, we discuss two cities Houston and Dallas about their own background, which we
called story and the comparison between them as well. Firstly, this paper will describe the Houston
city s history and background, by using the timeline, it is easy to consider the economy, politic,
education and transportation for each of the city chronology. In this way, we can finally discuss the
characteristic and opportunity for each of these two cities; thus, give them various suitable solutions
for the future plan, which we called blue print, to help the city expansion.
History of Houston
Houston is the most populous city in Texas, the largest city in the Southern United States and the
fourth most populous city in the United States. According to the 2012 U.S. Census estimates, the city
had a population of 2.16 million people within a land area of 599.6 square miles.
Houston is the seat of Harris County, and its metropolitan area is the fifth most populated in the U.S.,
with over 6 million people. The economy of Houston is primarily based on the energy industry
(particularly oil). The Houston metropolitan area comprises the largest petrochemical manufacturing
area in the world, including for synthetic rubber, insecticides, and fertilizers. The area is the world s
leading center for building oilfield equipment.

Human Papillomavirus ( Hpv ) Vaccine
Exploratory Essay: Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine Prior to June of 2006, Human
Pappilomarius (HPV) was almost unheard of to the general public. But after FDA approval of Gardasil
manufactured by Merck Co., HPV vaccine became the headline of many articles and breaking news of
many TV channels. Why? Let s us explore it. According to World Health Organization (WHO), HPV
worldwide is the most common sexual transmitted Disease (STD). There are more than 100 strains of
HPV and in those 13 strains are known for causing cancer in human. HPV infection goes undetected
majority of the time. HPV infected victims mostly have no signs or symptoms or are there any tests
available to detect it. The body immunity usually gets rid of the viruses on its own. However, with
persistent infection, it may lead to genital warts and worrisome oro genital cancers. With normal
immunity, it takes about 15 20 years for cervical cancer to develop. Worldwide, cervical cancer is the
second most frequent cancer. It is estimated more than 270,000 deaths from cervical cancer annually
(1 6). In 2007, to prevent the devastation result of HPV associated cancer, the National Advisory
Committee on Immunization practices (ACIP) recommended Gardasil as a routine vaccination for girl
s ages 11 to 12 with a catch up vaccination for those aged 13 to 26. Across the country, thereafter, state
legislature attempt to make HPV vaccine mandated. As the result, controversy was generated. In this

They both use the city to hide their goings on from the people they value on Long Island. In the story,
there is a distinction between West Egg, where Long Island is located, and East Egg on the other side.
The people who live in West Egg are considered to be the recently developed wealthy individuals.
Moreover, separated by a long river, on the other side is East Egg where people made of generations
of wealth live. However, Fitzgerald tells us, in Nicks point of view, directly that East Egg is the
wealthier, more elite of the two. Despite all his money, Gatsby lives in West Egg, suggesting that he
has not been able to complete his transformation into a member of the social upper class society. Tom
and Daisy are apart of the East Egg society being an example of a typical couple living there being
overindulged. We learn that Daisy being a mother is not responsible or mature for her age. She

representing a barrier between the two lovers. Valley of ashes shows the less happier side of the

The areas of computer science/technology has ten main areas that we need in our everyday lives. The
two computer science fields I am interested is Computer Forensics Investigator and Cyber Detective.
They both have to do with computers and figuring out evidence to put suspects away but they involve
different steps. Computer Forensic Investigators work with law enforcements agencies and private
firms. Cyber detectives work with law enforcement agencies, private businesses, corporations agencies
and regulatory agencies.

are assigned to a agencies or business that needs them. People with detective background or worked

Description Of A Database Management System
Chris Velasquez
MGMT 329
Final Research Paper to Pass
A database is an organized collection of data. It is the collection of tables, queries, reports, viewings,
and other objects. The data are typically organized to model aspects of reality in a way that supports
processes requiring information, such as modelling the structure of a major business such as Walmart,
and all of its data including things like their inventory, customers, and their employees. A database
management system is a computer software application that interacts with the user, other applications,
and the database itself to capture and analyze data. A general purpose database management system is
designed to allow the definition, creation, querying, update, and administration of databases. The
Database uses terms that are key for anyone to sift through the collection of data that any company or
business collects. terminology consists of keywords that will help users select desired pieces of data.
The primary key is a special relational database table column of a collection of columns appointed to
individually identify all table records. The primary key s main features include: it cannot contain a
unique value for each row of data, and it cannot contain null values. The primary key is either an
existing table column or a column that is explicitly initiated by the database according to a defined
sequence. The foreign key is a column or group of columns in a relational database table that

Segeration In Supreme Court Cases
Segeration was a big thing and was very controversial throughout the United States. They were many
court cases and debates about the segreation.Segeration was when the blacks and white were seperated
and were based of their color which limited most of the tings that they could do.But in the Plessy v.
Ferguson in 1896 the United States Supreme Court ruled that the whites and blacks could be sepreated
but equal if it didnt violate the Constuition. This was the start to ending segreation in United
States. This lead up to the Brown vs Board supreme court case on segraton in schools.
Another thing that did to help end segeration is they started boycotting on public buses. On the bus

Thomas Aquinas And Karl Marx Views On Women
A human right is a term used to describe rights that are granted to all human beings within society.
These rights pertain to nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, color, religion and
language. All individuals are equally entitled to his or her rights without discrimination.
Unfortunately, on a global level equality can be a difficult concept to understand especially in regards
sex. This is due to diverse values. Sexism or gender discrimination is prejudice or discrimination
based on a person s sex or gender. Sexism can affect any gender, but it is particularly documented as
affecting women and girls and individuals whom are homosexual. The case of Ellen Pao v. Kleiner
Perkins Caufield and Byers is a sexism case regarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The philosophies of Karl Marx have changed political views of women as he implemented what is
known as Marxist feminism. Marxist feminism is a branch of feminism focused on investigating and
explaining the ways in which women are oppressed through systems of capitalism and private
property (Intro to Marxist Feminism). When analyzing the views of Karl Marx one may apply the case
of Ellen Pao v. Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers. This specific case takes precedent in the legal
system as it seizes to recognize the worth of females in male based workplaces (Fulenwider, Melissa).
In connection to the Catholic Church empowerment of women refers to increasing their social,
political, economic and spiritual strength, individually and collectively, as well as to removing the
obstacles that penalize women and prevent them from being fully integrated into the various sectors of
society (Promotion of Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women). Concretely, it means
addressing discriminatory practices that exclude women from decision making processes, oftentimes
caused or aggravated by discrimination based on a woman s race, ethnicity, religion or social status.
(Promotion of Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women). The issue of women s empowerment
within the workplace is one out of many that face society today. Wage and educational gaps between

Jeffery Katzenberg s Influence On The Disney Animation...
It is evident that Jeffery Katzenberg played a significant role in the Walt Disney Animation Studios
during this time period. In his role as head of film, he expressed power in differing ways to
accomplish different objectives. Throughout the documentary Katzenberg displays a transactional
style of leadership. Leading from the top, early on, he attempted to cement his position of power
highlighting his ability to deliver commands to the animators and control integral decisions (Bass,
1991). On his first project with the studio, The Black Cauldron, Katzenberg displays legitimate power
when believes the film to be too violent and despite protests from the animators insists cuts and
changes must be made to the film (Hahn, 2009). French and Raven (1959), define legitimate power as
the right due to status to prescribe behaviour to others; in simpler terms, to tell someone what to do.
The animators likened the actions of Katzenberg to causing world war three and thus a power struggle
ensues. Robins and Judge (2008) theorise that situations in which there are low levels of trust and high
levels of uncertainty within an organisation increase the likelihood of resistance from employees. This
rang true in the Disney animation department as many of the animators showed resistance to
Katzenberg s leadership and authority refusing to make the changes he wanted (Hahn, 2009). In
retaliation Katzenberg displays an instant of coercive power defined by French and Raven (1959) as a

Role Of Investment And Commercial Banks Play On The Global...
Introduction: This paper will examine the roles that investment and commercial banks play in creating
and predicting systemic risk in the global economy. This topic is of particular relevance due to the
events that unfolded in the economic sphere nearly a decade ago during the financial crisis of 2007
2008. Our study will provide a detailed rendering of the crisis, outlining each of the key factors that
contributed to the crash in an attempt to gain a better understanding of what happened and how to
avoid similar events from unfolding in the future. Much of our study hinges on the role of banks on
the markets and their influence over global systemic risk. In order to establish a link between bank
prices and economic trends, we will focus our analysis on one key metric, Value at Risk (VaR). A
powerful statistical measurement, VaR is used to assess a firm s potential loss over a certain period of
time. To generate a diversified and complete quantitative analysis, our calculation will incorporate
pricing data from January 1st, 2000 to November 30th, 2016 of eleven of the most prevalent banks in
the US financial system: Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays, Citi Bank, Credit Suisse, Deutsche
Bank, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, JP Morgan, Royal Bank of Canada, UBS, and Wells Fargo. Our aim is
to establish a predictive correlation between the historical performance of these banks and the markets
in order to avoid downturns such as the financial crisis of 2007 08 from happening in the

Alkaline Diet Pros And Cons
The last two sources that are not from an academic website of any kind seem credible, and have
doctors to back up their finding, but they both have disclaimers on them that the information is purely
educational and should not take the place of a doctor s advice. The fact that they have this disclaimer
makes me wonder if they have to have it, or are not confident in the information they have given.
When I was researching this topic, I found that it was very controversial. Although it was
controversial there seems to be more evidence supporting an alkaline diet rather than against an
alkaline diet. Most of the articles I found that were against my topic I did not have the required
knowledge to understand if the information was correct or not,

The Second Sex!
The Feminist Movement (also known as The Women s Liberation movement) is a social movement
organized around the belief that both men and women are equal in every way. The role of feminism in
the 20th century changed the lives of many women, opening new doors to greater opportunities such
has: jobs, education, and empowerment. Many achievements and organizations were a success in
bringing a new role into society for women all over. However, the battle that seems to keep
reappearing over time is the constant struggle between man and women and the fundamental question
that still is left unanswered, who is inferior? In her novel, The Second Sex, Simone de Beauvoir
discusses the role of women as being oppressed in the views of men who ... Show more content on

Beauvoir notes in her second volume, When I wrote that one is not born, but rather becomes a woman
I meant just this that women become feminine through the process of social brainwashing and
stereotyping. She states key points of womanhood that are notably unseen or foreign in man:
pregnancy, lactation, and menstruation. Thus, this type of phenomena contributes to the marked
difference in women all together. Furthermore, what society seems to overlook when they take these
types of differences are the existential importance s that each carry on. Thus, woman may fail to lay
claim to the status of subject because she lacks definite resources, because she feels the necessary
bond that ties her to man regardless of reciprocity, and because she is often very well pleased with her
role as the Other.
Women overall are raised believe that the only way to achieve happiness and gain success is through
the acceptance of denying her true identity. Women all over are being deprived of their possibilities for
fulfillment and opportunity because they are shaped based on their childhood where they learn to
accept the dissatisfying life of work around the house, nurturing and raising children, and the sexual
slavishness. While living the kind of adulthood, Beauvoir addresses the certain roles women live in a
sexist society: wife, mother,

BONOBOS
Species Origination and Geographical Distribution The bonobo is the most recently discovered great
ape in modern times. It was revealed in 1929 by German anatomist Ernest Schwarz that a skull once
thought belonging to a juvenile chimpanzee was in fact a new subspecies of chimpanzee known now
as the Pan paniscus, or bonobo. (Waal 6) During the Pleistocene epoch approximately 1.5 million
years ago, the Congo River was formed in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo. (San
Diego Zoo 2) The river geographically segregated groups and individual chimpanzees south of the
river resulting in these chimps being reproductively isolated. Allopatric speciation took place as a
response to new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bonobo s are classified within the Genus Pan, Species paniscus. Pan paniscus is commonly referred to
as the pygmy/lesser/dwarf chimpanzee, and gracile ape. The name bonobo is said to be meaningless,
taken from a misspelling on a shipping crate headed to the town of Bolobo in the Democratic Republic
of Congo. (Primate Info Net) On an interesting note, some taxonomists suggest putting both
chimpanzees and bonobo s in the same Genus as humans, Homo, due to genetic similarities in the
species because both are humans closest genetic relatives. (San Diego Zoo 2) (Wildman Et. Al. 2003)
Physical Characteristics Bonobo s display a varied degree of sexual dimorphism, which is a
characteristic specific to either male or female sex. When comparing the two sexes, males are more
muscular and hold an average weight of 95 pounds compared to an average of 82 pounds and a
slighter built female, a 15 percent weight difference between them. Sexual dimorphism is also
apparent in that males possess a unique dental trait, long canines, a feature that females lack. Both
sexes are similar in that neither has a height advantage, averaging 2.3 to 3 feet in height. (Waal 24)
Bonobo s possess long, fine black hair covering most of the body and black colored hands and feet.
Their black faces feature wide, thick walled nostrils and long black facial hair that often covers their
small ears. Their head hair

Competency And Stand Trial Is Coming Into Question
The competency to stand trial is coming into question in the case against Deasia Watkins. The CBS
news article illustrated a 20 year old mother who has allegedly decapitated her infant daughter. The
police arrived to find Watkins 3 month old child decapitated on the kitchen counter in the home of the
child s aunt that was temporarily caring for the child. Watkins appeared to be suffering from mental
issues when she was found in bed covered in her child s blood. Watkins has to be sent for treatment
and further evaluation at a psychiatric hospital with the intention to restore her competency so she will
be able to stand trial on an aggravated murder charge in the death of her child. She was already
considered a threat to the child and diagnosed with postpartum psychosis prior to the incident. Social
workers found the child a home with her aunt, but were not aware that Watkins had moved in. Doctors
have six months to restore her competency for a hearing in October to reevaluate her mental stability.
Even after that evaluation doubtable question of whether or not Watkins was competent at the time of
the murder of her infant daughter still comes to mind.
In the case of Dusky v. the United States, the court affirmed that a defendant has a right to a
competency evaluation before a trial. The case established that if a defendant is not competent to stand
trial, he/she might lack the capacity to assist counsel. The defendant may also lack rational or factual

Reimbursement Model
I think that reimbursement system is one of the most important implements to maintain managed care
organization. However, there are various models accessible to manage hospitals or health care
associations to keep track of reimburse payment methods. As of carefully reading through the book, I
believe a basic model of reimbursement includes Fee for services, capitation, and salary. However,
each of these models is states differently and approached it differently. First, I believe a fee for
services model is very easy payment method and remain as very important form of reimbursement
model in the health maintenance organization. Physician or any health care provider receives payment
right after providing services or procedure has been done. However,

To Kill A Mockingbird Quote Analysis
A variety of lessons are taught to Scout and the reader in this award winning novel. To Kill a
Mockingbird by Harper Lee is about a young girl named Jean Louise Finch, or more commonly
known as Scout, growing up in 1930s Alabama, USA, with her father, Atticus, and brother, Jem. As
she faces challenges, she is given guidance by many people around her. Her and the reader are taught
how to communicate properly with people, how respect is given and gotten, and finally, equality
among everyone. The majority of these lessons (ignoring the misleading ones) are valuable and should
be remembered by everyone, age aside. They can help us grow as a person and become more
understanding and aware of people . Firstly, Scout and the reader are taught how to properly

should donate money to help out his family through this tough time since Tom is out of work. When
all the money is collected, Sykes dumps it out onto a table and says, This is not enough, we must have
ten dollars. (Lee 162) Sykes is determined to help a man in need and Scout and the reader grasp that
you should always try to help a friend in need since they might need all the help they can get.
Secondly, Jem Finch, Scout s brother, teaches a lesson about how to handle her family. Scout wants to
invite Walter Cunningham over, but her Aunt Alexandra calls him trash and refuses to let Scout have
him over. Scout asks if the answer would be different if he was related, but Alexandra says the answer
would still be no. Jem then speaks up, ...you can choose your friends but you sho can t choose your
family, an they re still kin to you no matter whether you acknowledge em or not... (Lee 300) Jem

Shifting Narrative Perspective In Wild Thorns By Sahar...
In the novel, Wild Thorns, written by Sahar Khalifeh there are a number of examples of shifting
narrative perspective, which helps Sahar Khalifeh give a more balanced description and view of the
Occupation for the reader. Sahar Khlaifeh conveys shifting narrative perpective through dialogue and
internal monologue. In particular we see different and conflicting views on the Occupation between
Usama and Adil, who are both cousins, with a conflicting relationship. The dialogue between the two
characters provide the two different perspectives, we are able to see the internal thinking of both
characters and see how this influences our view on the Occupation. Also, the use of shifting narrative

All culture gone! All integrity gone! Sink, Palestine... (pg 69). In this example Usama expresses his
opinion on the Occupation and the lack of effort shown by Adil to do something about the change in
the Occupation. There are more examples of exclamatory statements, which helps show the reader the
opposing opinions towards the Occupation. All culture gone! All integrity gone! This example really
puts emphasis on the fact that there is disagreement and disgust from Usama towards the Occupation.
Sahar Khalifeh uses exclamatory statements well in this novel to show characters opinions. Another
example of internal thoughts are shown, this time with Adil, adil was looking at him in digust! . In this
part of the text it refers to Adil looking at Usama in disgust. This is very useful in showing that both
characters have conflict between each other which is based on the Occupation and the contrasting
opinions from each other. However, through the use of internal monologue we can see the different
views on the same situation. Theres more than one dimension to the picture . This is a qoutation which

How Does Pecola Affect Society
Toni Morrison s novel The Bluest Eyes is about a young adolescent girl named Pecola who made no
attempt to fight back against those who mocked her or damaged her body and mentality. Pecola s
peculiarness caused the people around her to become aware of her difference, which made them hate
her for the ugliness that reflected in themselves. My opinion of this novel is that Morrison inserted a
society where they used Pecola as a punching bag, and a scapegoat to illuminate the superficialness of
perceived beauty in the novel. I think Morrison was trying to highlight how beauty and love can go
hand in hand; but the two factors can be destructive as well if one has neither of them. If someone is
beautiful, then they will be loved more than a less beautiful person Pecola is considered ugly and she
wants to look like talented and beautiful Shirley Temple who is an idol among society. Pecola s life
was also lacking love as it did beauty her household had no time for affection, and her parents were
bitter and engrossed in their own reality. The lack of love and lack of beauty hurt Pecola along with
the mockery and damage she received from society caused her to isolate herself by becoming insane
so she could not be hurt ever again. In the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Understanding family history and mental illness proves vital with guiding and assisting adolescents
who attempt suicide, as well as realizing that adolescents need supportive and meaningful

  • 2. Essay about Acoustic Theory and Synthesis Acoustic Theory and Synthesis Frequency: Frequency means the number of cycles per second and depending on the amount of cycles per second determines how high or low pitched the sound is and the time that it takes to complete one cycle is called the period. Frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz). And An average human is able to hear sounds between 20Hz and 20,000Hz. As the cycles per second increases, the smaller the wavelengths become, therefore there is a higher frequency which will cause the pitch of the sound to increase or get higher. If there is frequency of say 20KHz then it is going to be a much higher pitch than a 20Hz because there is a lot more cycles per second. Fundamentals: A fundamental is the lowest frequency ... • 4. Criteria For A Nobel Prize Criteria for a Nobel Prize in Leadership Alan Weber (2009) wrote an article for the Washington Post, that focused on the criteria that one might use to suggest a nominee. In his article, Weber offered that candidacy for the prize should not be base upon achievement broadly defined, or abstract qualities that can be attributed to leaders, but clear and undeniable moral authority (Weber, 2009, para.1). Cook (2009) added that he would choose a nominee who has pretty much transcended his or her own ego, and who sees humanity as interconnected in a vast system to which we all, ultimately, are contributing (Cook, 2009, para.4). While these points provide a good starting point for selection the development of selection criteria, I have demined that any individual who would be a candidate for a Nobel Prize in Pauline Leadership should be characterized by the following the following: Demonstrated Christ Centered Core Values Unwavering Sense of Mission and Purpose Alignment of Character, Ethics, and Actions (Bradberry Greaves, 2012) Servant Orientation Leads by Example Humility Self Discipline (Lee, 2003) Equipping or Developing Others (Lee, 2003) Lasting Concern for the Broader Community Influence and Impact Explanation of the First Nobel Laureate As Lutheran Pastor, it should not be a surprise that I have chosen the 16th Century Reformer Martin Luther as the first Nobel Laureate in Pauline Leadership. • 5. Nonconformism In The Portrait Of A Lady By Henry James Throughout history, people have always obeyed rules predetermined for their lives by society in order to maintain status and respect in their communities. In the 1800s, women were strivers to their husbands and family, and were set to devote themselves entirely to that cause. In his 1881 romance novel, The Portrait of a Lady, Henry James provides challenges the concept of female individuality in society through the protagonist, Isabel Archer, who emphasizes how miserable obeying the status quo makes her; Nevertheless, Archer ignores her innermost desires to please the demands of society and of her wicked husband. The empathetic narration of the novel highlights the nonconformist theme James embedded throughout. Isabel s life with her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ultimately, Isabel chooses to remain in her miserable marriage to Osmond rather than to violate custom by leaving him and searching for a happier life. This decision makes the novel a social commentary on the status quo of women being more important than their own emotions in the 1800s. The portrait of Isabel changes from that of an independent young woman to a lady that wears a mask to conceal her emotions. The strength of Isabel s character is tainted once she is exposed to a toxic man in her life. Originally, Isabel abided by societal expectations for women, but knew that she did not need to do so to be comfortable with herself. She states, Possibly; but I don t care to be judged by that. My clothes may express the dressmaker, but they don t express me. To begin with it s not my own choice that I wear them; they re imposed upon me by society. (James 352). Isabel starts off as a strong character who knows her worth and her perspective on society is constant. Notably, as the story develops, Isabel is changed by her marriage. James shows her new perspective by stating, She thinks she knows everything; but she doesn t understand a woman of my modern type. It would be so much easier for her if I were only a little better or a little worse. She s so puzzled; I believe she thinks it s my duty to go and do something immoral. (James 1012). Fundamentally, Isabel knew remaining independent and single was what she needed to stay true to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Becoming A Good Baseball Player Establishing teamwork on and off the field is a skill that of which I excel at. This past year we had teammates of all ages. We had 4 seniors, two of which did not get to play very often and sat the bench; I tried to keep them upbeat and positive even though they didn t get much playing time. There were were four of us Juniors. We were not only playing on the Varsity team; we played JV to help out the younger less athletic players. We had three Sophomores and two Freshman that came up in the ranks to play Varsity; they didn t need encouragement on the field; but they needed to learn how we encourage even the less talented players and not boast and brag about how much better we were than them. One of the teammates I think I ve learned the most from is our player who is autistic. He started playing his Sophomore year. We have seen him come from not being able to hold a bat or a glove to actually catching balls and hitting them and making it on base to eventually scoring. This is where working as a team brought us together to make the player with the least ability enjoy and actually playing the game; even though at times it hurt our score; it made another individual feel good about himself. • 7. Violence Against Women Is An Old Fashioned Practice Throughout the years, violence against women has become a national issue, often referred to as a hidden epidemic by Amnesty International, which spreads through social, cultural and ethnic areas. The cost of sexual and domestic violence creates a ripple effect throughout today s society; for example, discrimination of race, ethnicity, and age prevents women from obtaining any form of justice. Violence against women is an old fashioned practice, but in the last decade it finally received recognition as a serious human rights issue. Violence against women is categorized into two parts: social violence, which occurs in public places between strangers, and domestic violence, which takes place within households and usually between family members. A prevalent and particular problem area includes psychological issues; women become depressed, isolate themselves, develop sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), commit suicide, depend on drugs and alcohol, develop poor reproductive health, and become incapable of supporting their families. Men and children are at risk of becoming perpetrators due to exposure of violence within households, low education, and childhood abuse. Education plays an important role in today s society about spreading awareness of violence against women. The World Health Organization, the Avon Foundation for Women, and Amnesty International, and the producers/authors of Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide are some of many ... • 8. Case Study Formula 1 Q1. What do you need in order to succeed in Formula One? The case studies emphasise that all three racing teams focussed on different strategies. Their strategies changed within the environment and circumstances, but what is overwhelmingly evident is that a team needs all the elements to be in synergy and for focus to be on every aspect of the strategy. As the old adage, A team is only as strong as its weakest link. This means that in order to be successful and to maintain success, you ve got to get all the elements right, the overall package, the budget, the designer, the engine, the drivers, the organisation and every aspect, from what is deemed most important to the least important, all play an essential part of sustaining a winning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whilst all of these technological developments were taking place in the F1 arena, Ferrari chose to focus on it s long term strategy which focused on the development of the V6 turbocharged engine. This essentially meant that their drivers were now competing with cars that no longer held a competitive advantage, in fact the cars were now considered inferior. The fundamental flaw in this instance was that Ferrari had ignored the change in trends in the immediate environment and stuck to what they felt worked. The strategy was to exploits their strengths but neglected the opportunities that presented themselves. They had failed to respond to an immediate threat, thus exposing their weaknesses and allowing themselves to retrogress to the extent that Ferrari was no longer considered a threat. This was further compounded by the problems that were being experienced between Audetto and Laude, Ferrari s strength was derived somewhat from the relationship between Team Boss and Driver and with Audetto not being able to accomplish this, it impacted on the performance of the team. In addition, the heavy reliance on the driver, meant that the team was left at the mercy of it s driver, this was evident when Laude was unable to compete for six weeks, this allowed the competition to close in on the lead that Ferrari had established. The stereotype is very accurate most twins dress, talk, and look the same. However if you were to meet my sister and I you would never guess we are twins. Lauren, my sister does not resemble me at all. We have different facial features, hair, and personality. When we were very little my mom would dress us alike everyday even our pajamas were the same. • 12. I Speak Through My Clothes I speak through my clothes. (Hebdige, 1993: 100, quoting Eco, 1973) Fashion is one of the ways that one creates identity. In particular, since the rise of youth culture in the 1960s fashion has become... a way of defining one s identity or else a way of avoiding such definition . (Gonzalez Bovone, 2012: 23) The 1960s saw a rise in mass production of consumerism fashion, and has been used as a form of expressing ones identity; whether it be inspired or interpreted from religion, social status, habitus, gender, cultural icons, or subcultures (such as punk, pastel goth, hipster, etc.) Crane states in Fashion and its Social Agendas, that due to the availability of inexpensive clothing... that those with limited resources can find or create personal styles that express their perceptions of their identities (Crane, 2000: 6); the consumer is expected to construct an individualised appearance from a variety of options. (Crane, 2000: 155) However, Polhemus argues that Fashion is an arbitrary language system where things are really what they appear to be (Polhemus, 2011: 49), suggesting that fashion is a tool used for illusion. Bovone contributes, stating that On the stage of everyday life, the performer declares what he is... his image is at stake and he is involved in a continuous negotiation with his fellow performers and the audience. A substantial reduction in life span is seen even for borderline hypertension.(3) In this case study the patient demonstrates essential hypertension. Essential hypertension accounts for 80 95% of high blood pressure cases and applies to individuals with elevated blood pressure and no demonstrable cause, whereas secondary hypertension is named for causes where the causative factors are known.(2,3) Essential hypertension is thought to be a multifaceted disease with abnormalities of regulatory mechanism normally associated with control of blood volume, sodium excretion, cardiac output, and systemic vascular resistance.(4) Hypertension has been shown to be one of the most common reasons for visits to primary care providers.(1) Hypertension remains one of the most modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular disease globally. Non modifiable risk factors for hypertension include greater than 55 years old and male. Family history of premature cardiovascular disease is also a risk factor for males less than 55 and females less than 65 years old. Explanations for pH changes will be present too. /p p But before discussion on the experiment and the results can really start, the reader must first understand some background information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As I mentioned earlier, there were 2 trials that we performed for each solution, and each trial had a different concentration. We did this to see what the pH change would be like for changing concentrations. For mandelic acid, as molarity increased, so did the K SUB a /SUB , but the pH value went down. This shows that as the concentration increased, so did the strength of the acid, which is shown in the K SUB a /SUB value increasing. The more acid there is, the stronger the solution will be, as well as increasing the ability to dissociate. As the concentration increased, the acidity value decreased. This means that the solution became more acidic the more acid preset, the more acidic the solution is. But, despite the fact that the K SUB a /SUB increased, it was by such a small amount that it is still considered a weak acid. The same changes could be found in the trials that involved acetic acid. As the concentration of the solution increased, so did the K SUB a /SUB , but the pH value went down. And the reasons as such are the same for acetic acid as they were for mandelic acid. Despite the change in K SUB a /SUB value, acetic acid is still considered a weak acid. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Why The Chemical Elements Are Given A Unique Atomic Number All the chemical elements are given a unique atomic number; copper is the 29 atomic numbers. Atoms are made of three kinds of smaller particles, called protons, neutrons and electrons the atomic number is the number of protons in the atom. Each element is first identified at room temperature and pressure as being solid, liquid or gas therefore copper is a solid. Elements, like copper, have other properties and characteristics physical properties can be observed and measured whereas chemical properties is how an element reacts with other substances. Copper is capable of being bent and shaped also it can be easily pulled or stretched into thin wire. Copper has a shine to it; it is an excellent transmission of heat and electricity since it is a good conductor. The maximum density of Copper is 8.96 g/cm3. Copper is a ductile metal with high thermal and electrical conductivity. Ductility is a measure of how much pressure a metal can take before breaking apart. A metal with high malleability will be able to be drawn into long, thin wires without rupturing whereas a metal with low malleability will be brittle, although it may be strong, once it deforms enough, it will rupture. Most metals like Copper, gold, silver and aluminum are malleable because atoms can roll over each other and retain the structure of crystal, a function of metallic bonding. Copper is a pinkish color when it is new, but soon turns a reddish orange color after it is exposed to air, it is soft and bendy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Jeffery Katzenberg s Influence On The Disney Animation... It is evident that Jeffery Katzenberg played a significant role in the Walt Disney Animation Studios during this time period. In his role as head of film, he expressed power in differing ways to accomplish different objectives. Throughout the documentary Katzenberg displays a transactional style of leadership. Leading from the top, early on, he attempted to cement his position of power highlighting his ability to deliver commands to the animators and control integral decisions (Bass, 1991). On his first project with the studio, The Black Cauldron, Katzenberg displays legitimate power when believes the film to be too violent and despite protests from the animators insists cuts and changes must be made to the film (Hahn, 2009). French and Raven (1959), define legitimate power as the right due to status to prescribe behaviour to others; in simpler terms, to tell someone what to do. The animators likened the actions of Katzenberg to causing world war three and thus a power struggle ensues. Robins and Judge (2008) theorise that situations in which there are low levels of trust and high levels of uncertainty within an organisation increase the likelihood of resistance from employees. This rang true in the Disney animation department as many of the animators showed resistance to Katzenberg s leadership and authority refusing to make the changes he wanted (Hahn, 2009). Introduction: This paper will examine the roles that investment and commercial banks play in creating and predicting systemic risk in the global economy. This topic is of particular relevance due to the events that unfolded in the economic sphere nearly a decade ago during the financial crisis of 2007 2008. Our study will provide a detailed rendering of the crisis, outlining each of the key factors that contributed to the crash in an attempt to gain a better understanding of what happened and how to avoid similar events from unfolding in the future. Much of our study hinges on the role of banks on the markets and their influence over global systemic risk. In order to establish a link between bank prices and economic trends, we will focus our analysis on one key metric, Value at Risk (VaR). A powerful statistical measurement, VaR is used to assess a firm s potential loss over a certain period of time. To generate a diversified and complete quantitative analysis, our calculation will incorporate pricing data from January 1st, 2000 to November 30th, 2016 of eleven of the most prevalent banks in the US financial system: Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays, Citi Bank, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, JP Morgan, Royal Bank of Canada, UBS, and Wells Fargo.
