In this essay, I will define some terms and critically review key elements, principles and Holistic
approaches in Palliative care in the process relate them to my practice as a generalist nurse in a
hospital setting, its impact on palliative care, and finally discuss on findings and recommendations
to my practices.
Palliative care is one of the most sensitive specialists in nursing today. Hence the guidance
published in nursing times [2012]recommends that trusts draws up a plan to raise awareness of
end of life issues in all wards as to improve rapid discharge process for patients who choose to die

My Papas Waltz Analysis Essay

Analyze Poem Story
My Papa s Waltz
The style and purpose of dancing has changed throughout the years of existence. From culture to
culture, dancing is passed through generations as another form of communicating. Dancing has
been used as a healing method throughout Europe, and in the 1900 s people would attend balls as
a social gathering and use dancing as a way to court someone; yet today as a form of artistic talent
people dance to express emotions and feelings. Tied in Theodore Roethke s poem, My Papa s Waltz
, the father and the son waltzing in the kitchen symbolize the powerful relationship between each
other, and the abusive themes Roethke use to express the boys childhood and his as well. In the first

Within this dance, Roethke demonstrates the abusive relationship as the father receives a
battered knuckle and the boy with a scraped ear. Even though the boy had to deal with his
drunken father physically and emotionally abusing him, he didn t mind it as long as he had his
father. The boy didn t care that his fathers whiskey breath almost made him dizzy, or that he had
to cling on to his father during this dance that should have been easy for him to execute but was
difficult for him to perform because of his father s drunkenness. The last stanza sums up the poem
with the father waltzing the son off to bed. The young boy didn t want to let go of his father, for
he feared that letting go of his father would symbolically end the relationship that they had. The
last sentence still clinging onto your shirt describes the love and the longing he had for his dad. To
add on, society understands that in a child s youth, growing up in an abusive environment is
impactful on his/her life, and the boy wanted to keep the connection he had with his dad. From just
reading this poem, the reader narrows down on one day into the life of this father and son dancing
throughout the house, and in such a way, Roethke captured and connected the dancing of the waltz
with the relationship between the father and his son. Roethke portrayed his own personal

Protection of intellectual property is taken very seriously in the United States. Copyright holders
defend their rights quite vigorously and as a teacher, you should take seriously how both you and
your students use music, video, spoken and written words that have been created by others.
In this Thing you will learn about copyright, fair use, Creative Commons and the TEACH Act of

The Geological Characteristics of Ethiopia Essays
Ethiopia with a growth rate of 8.5 percent per year is one of the 12th fastest growing economies in
the world in 2012. As major sectors of the economy, the agriculture, industry and services sectors
contribute 4.9 percent, 13.6 percent and 11.1 percent respectively (Geiger and Moller, 2013). With
this growth pace, the country aims to achieve the mid economy class countries in 2025 (MinistГ©r,

to be the basic engine of economic growth and the cementmanufacturing industry considered to

It recommends cement plants to install pollution prevention and control techniques. Further, Kumar
and Rawani (2012) revealed that in cement production process, environmental impacts are
significant starting from pre production phase to end yielding phase typically greenhouse gases.
Moreover, since clinker production is a major for energy input, emission potential, product quality
and cost in cement plants, toxic pollutants were released from physical and chemical reactions of
the raw materials and fuels of this cement kiln system (EEA, 2009). In line with this, cement
production contributes about 10% to the total global mercury emissions (Marquita, 2010).
Additionally, Oss and Padovani (2002) stated that the environmental issues of cement
manufacturing is related to general mining and mineral processing as local, regional and global
problem. These are local problems such as dust, ground subsidence, noise, vibrations, chemical
contamination, tailings spills, scenic and local ecologic degradation, and health problems among
miners. The regional scale problems are acid rain and contamination of surface and/or groundwater,
spills of processing chemicals and stream sediment loading. The global scale problems are effects
of minerals use and anthropogenic greenhouse gases in global warming.
These examples show that cement factories are a major source of pollutants for the surrounding
areas (Darley, 1966). In addition, cement industry plays a vital role

Horse Power Farm Video Analysis
The three videos I choose to watch were Horse Power Farm, Lakeside Orchards, and Ayotte Farm.
Horse Power Farm is located in Penobscot, Maine and owned by Paul Birdsall. The distinguishing
features are on the farm s focus for producing vegetables and timber, and relying on their horses
instead of machinery. Paul s farmis specifically a mixed practice as they do have a tractor, but draft
horses are the key component. Another unique aspect of this farm is that as Paul said, training
apprentices is the most important thing they do. Without the apprentices help, they are limited in
the amount of work they can get done. Lakeside Orchards is located in Kennebec County and is
owned by Steve and Marilyn Meyerhans. They also own The Apple Farm located in Fairfield,
Maine. The distinguishing features for these two farms are the apples and apple products
produced. They also have two farm stands, one of which is opened year round. Unlike the other
two videos I watched, this couple had no prior experience before buying Lakeside Orchards. The

they first started out only using harvesters, but in order to become more efficient they began
using special roller machines. These are designed to sift the potatoes and transfer them to another
row so the harvester is able to pick up multiple rows at once. In addition, Ayotte Farm was unique
in that they re involved in a contract system. Because of this they mainly grow a certain type of

How The Corset Evolved From A Staple Of The British...
¬¬¬¬¬The fall and rise of the corset: From Queen Victoria to Jean Paul Gaultier. In this
essay I want to examine how the corset evolved from a staple of the British feminine wardrobe of
the Nineteenth Century into a symbol of an outmoded tradition only to later return as a statement
of female liberation. I am going to look at different aspects of this development including
technological advances, economic facts, external events, particularly the First World War and
changes in social, political and aesthetic attitudes. I will also look briefly at the role of Chanel on
the silhouette and how this impacted on the corset: focusing on the trend to towards opulent
androgyny in the 1920 s. Finally I will examine the resurgence of the corset... Show more content

Laces usually fastened corsets at the back and were drawn tightly to alter the silhouette. The
product was a wasp waist effect, or as some have expressed, the hour glass figure .
The corset was of course associated with high society and was an important signifier of social
class. For example in the grand balls that often featured in Victorian novels, a restrictive corset was
part of the essential uniform Becky Sharpe in Vanity Fair for example. It also became associated
with the dandy aesthetic of the late Nineteenth Century (Oscar Wilde being an example) when it
was worn by men.
In the latter part of the Victorian era there were significant developments signaling the decline of
the corset. The way garments were produced is perhaps the key factor in the move away from
the corset. In 1839, a Frenchman by the name of Jean Werly patented a loom for the production
of women s corsets. This type of corset was popular until 1890, when machine made corsets
gained popularity. The development of the sewing machine in the early 1850 s gradually led to
mass production, manufacturers could produce corsets in far greater numbers and increase the
variety of designs available to women of all classes. These advances finally led the way to new
designs in underwear in keeping with the changes to the fashions and silhouettes of the early
Twentieth Century.

My Lesson Sequence Using Venn Diagrams And Composition
I assess prior knowledge throughout my lesson sequence using a variety of ways. Before beginning
the learning segment, I will look at students prior work on comparing and contrasting to see where
each student is at in regards to their level of understanding. I found that while some students had a
good understanding of the strategy, there were still many students that could use a thorough
introduction to the concept. This allowed for me to begin planning ways to differentiate my
instruction to include the higher students and the lower students. I crafted the Central Focus
students practice compare and contrast by using Venn Diagrams and composing a paragraph that
includes an introductory sentence, two three details about how the two things are alike and
different, and a concluding sentence, to encompass requisite skills for my learningsegment. The
learning targets for lesson 1,2, and 3, also address questions related to knowledgeand skills aligned
with the Central Focus that support studentlearning. To reach the learning objective for lesson one,
students practice with me and with a pre assigned partner before doing anything by themselves. To
provide additional support to students with literacy needs and IEP/504 plans, I monitor their
progress, offer guidance with questions and different examples if needed, and give verbal cues
during each lesson.
When developing the central focus for my learning segment, I ensured to use lesson activities that

Sharing Is Not Always Caring
As a teenager, receiving one s very first cell phone is the first step in establishing popularity.
Tweeting, texting, Instagram ing and publishing life s fails and funnies are the teen social norm
and staple to the lines of communication between other teens. Creativity is put to the test when
language is turned into code (wyd, rotflmbo, ie.) and electronic communication between people

Life Coaching History Essay
The History of Life Coaching and Why You Should Care
Life coaching does not have a precise date marking its beginnings since humans developed the
innate ability to gain knowledge and enlightenment back at the beginning of civilization. However,
the theoretical origins of life coaching can be traced to a number of disciplines including business
management, sports psychology and targeted individual development techniques such as primal
therapy and sensitivity training. The idea took off as recent as the 90 s with the entrenchment of
social imagination as one of the core values defining the science and art of coaching. This
development is attributed to the advances made in the 70 s and 80 s, when this form of coaching
took the self help and business dimension.
The term life coaching is currently unregulated; this means people can use the term at their
discretion. However, there have been attempts by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council
and the International Coach Federation to come up with an operative code of conduct. The
standards are designed to set principles that players in the industry will need to abide by as life
coaches. Coaching in the new age is about providing a framework that ... Show more content on

The Book of the City of Ladies Essay
The Book of the City of Ladies
During the renaissance many different views of leadership surfaced.
Christine de Pizan s The Book of the City of Ladies, Niccolo
Machiavelli s The Prince, and William Shakespeare s Richard III each present distinct views of
what would make a good leader during the renaissance period. Shakespeare and Christine de Pizan
s views align most closely with Plato s. Christine de Pizan s view also aligns with
Augustine s medieval view of leadership. Machiavelli s view, however, strays the farthest from Plato
and Augustine.

Through these characters, collectively known as the Virtues, Christine shows that virtue, both public

Christine share many similar qualities, but chief amongst these is virtue. All of Christine s
characters possess some redeeming quality which supercedes any wrong done. Christine s virtue
comes from God and manifests itself through morally virtuous characteristics. This can be seen in
the example of Valentina Visconti, the duchess of
Orleans, who Christine describes as, A lady who is strong and constant in heart, filled with
devotion to her lord and good teaching for her children, well informed in government, just
toward all, sensible in her conduct, and virtuous in all things (213). Christine places the highest
value on leaders who lead by example. Christine devotes a large section of the City of Ladies to
martyrs, saying of them women who are crowned in glory and whose fair lives serve as excellent
examples for every woman above all other wisdom. For this reason these women are the most
outstanding of our City (219).
Machiavelli takes a drastically different view on renaissance leadership, placing emphasis on

Insects can be found all around the world. There are many insects of numerous types. Insects can
affect other organisms in different ways. Some types of insects can be beneficial to the life of
different organisms. Other types of insects can be harmful to organisms. There are many
characteristics of insectsthat include the attraction to other organisms such as humans, plants, and
animals. The attraction to other organisms has made humans want to find ways to repel insects.
The repelling of insects can make other organisms unaffected by these creatures. This means the
organisms will not receive any types of benefits or harm.
There are many different characteristics of the body of insects. Insects have the skills and ability to
make observations and communicate the things that are observed. These organisms usually have
six legs. Some insects use these legs for jumping. Other insects use these legs for walking. Many
insects use the legs for both jumping and running. Most insects have antennas. The antennas are
usually positioned on the head of the insect. Around the body of the insect, there is an exoskeleton.
An exoskeleton is a hard shell that shelters the body. Insects usually have wings. The wings are
used to give the insects the ability to fly. The wings are also used to camouflage insects from

We can also see Bill Viola making use of nature in The Reflecting Pool, be it sounds or visuals.
I also feel like the mood of both the film and the video art are quite similar. They both show a

nature in the film and video. Water and plants seem to feel very serene. Especially in the film on
Uncle Boonmee, even though death and ghosts appear in the film, it does not feel very scary or
make us feel anxious in any way. I think the use of nature in the film helps to set the preferred mood.
Apart from the stories, we can also discuss the technical portion of both the film and video.
Comparing the length of both movies, we can obviously see that the film was much longer than
the video art. However, we can tell that they go at the same pace as they are both generally quite

and it felt slightly dull. However for The Reflecting Pool I think it felt slightly brighter, even

Each company has what sets it apart from other companies in the same industry. This ideology

something that would offer fine coffee to the society that settled in Seattle. This has all along been

diverse. Note it has successively served airlines, hotels learning institutions, select retailers and
many more diverse customers. Much focus is given on how every customer is served as this keeps
them coming back. This is something Howard Schultz himself had to get down into it and thus he
taught his employees on how to be friendly to the customers. The employees friendliness
established an emotional attachment with the clients; something that was achieved through
employee trainings.
Differentiation demands that every product be great and unique on its own way. In making this

manipulating the stock market. Enron shareholders lost around $74 billion dollars, Enron
employees lost their retirement accounts, and some Enron employees even lost their jobs (The 10
Worst Corporate Accounting Scandalsof All Time, n.d.).
Another corporate accounting scandal that occurred in the United States before the Sarbanes
Oxley Act came into effect was the WorldCom scandal in 2002. Seventeen thousand employees
were fired and $3.8 billion dollars in profit were removed from their accounting books after an
internal audit discovered improper expense accounting in 2001 and 2002. This improper
accounting inflated the cash flow so the company would not report a net loss, only a net gain
(Hancock, 2002). A similar communications corporation, Adelphia, was also rocked by a corporate
accounting scandal in 2002. The Securities and Exchange Commission filed charges against the
founder of Adelphia and his three sons

The Value Of The Currency Alone Will Not Improve The Trade...
There are too many factors that may limit the growth needed to reach the balance to get out of debt.
Devaluing the currency alone will not improve the trade balance. Instead, there becomes a need to
limit the consumption. In the case of food imports, which accounts for about 12 percent of import
expenditure in Sri Lanka, the government expects the price increases to result in import
substitution, which will likely take time. The most forceful argument for devaluation is that it
ensures the competitiveness of exports. The question here is whether the extent of depreciation
would be adequate to ensure that the real effective exchange ratewould ensure competitiveness.
Again, there are some governments that do try to attempt to influence the value of their currency
by ways of intervention. The most notable offender in recent years is that of China, who has sought
to keep its currency undervalued to make Chinese exports more competitive against other heavily
traded Asian markets. They can do this by buying US dollar assets, which increases the value of the
US dollar to Chinese Yuan ratio. (Factors Which Influence the Exchange Rate) Because the current
financial status is so heavily dependent on exporting, the continuous management of the exchange
rate to ensure export competitiveness is essential for China and Sri Lanka. A reduction in exports
could affect the economy seriously as a decline in exports could affect economic growth,
employment and incomes. (Sanderatne)

New York City Taxicab Medallion Value Analysis
This report, entitled New York City Taxicab Medallion Value Analysis, presents key facts and
data of New York City medallion transfer transactions from January 2016 to April 2017. The
review and analysis in this report are based on information provided by the New York City Taxi
and Limousine Commission ( TLC ), primary data collected from NYC taxi medallion brokers,
and supplemental information gathered from various sources in the for hire vehicle ( FHV )
industry in NYC. Our review was conducted using all transaction data which distinguishes the two
types of NYC taxi medallions: independent and corporate (also known as mini fleet).

In determining the FMV of both classes of NYC medallions, we analyzed the various
methodologies for calculating the estimated value of the medallion and found the approach used in
this report, the income approach, to be the most concrete based on factual data to render this type of
assessment. As such, the analysis in this report is limited to, and only should be adopted
holistically with, the pertinent qualifying parameters.
After an extensive review of all applicable datasets and information, we conclude that the taxicab
medallion values for the period for January 2016 to April 2017, calculated using the discounted
cash flow methodology, were $550,000 and $1,108,000, respectively.
The subsequent sections of the report will: (1) provide an overview of the NYC taxi medallion
market and new market entrants impact on the taxi industry; (2) identify the best approach to
determine medallion valuation (3) analyze data gathered using discounted cash flow to assess
valuation of both classes of medallions.
I. BACKGROUND OF NYC TAXI MEDALLION
In the late 1930s, New York City introduced yellow taxi medallions to curb the oversupply of
taxicab vehicles and drivers entry into what was an all cash business, and to limit the impact of
traffic congestion, fare cutting wars and other unsafe (and sometimes illegal) activities. In 1937, the

Beet Lab Report
Introduction
Beets also known as Beta Vulgaris, contain a pigment known as betacyanin that gives the beets its
deep rich red color, it is water soluble and is stored in the vacuoles of the beet roots and stems.
Because the betacyanin is a water soluble pigment is can not easily cross the cell membranes.
Objective
The purpose of this experiment was to alter the cell membrane of the beets, in a given fashion, so
that we can test how much betacyanin was able to cross the cell membrane of the beet through
various treatment. In which after we would test the absorbance level of each treatment, run it
through excel and observe which treatment was most effective at getting betacyanin through the
cell membrane more.
Materials
beet (Beta vulgaris) roots
beakers (250 ml and 1000 ml)
hot plate
thermometer
100% EtOH
1.0% Triton X 100 in ddH20
spectrophotometer cuvettes
spectrophotometer (with absorbance set at 525 nm)
forceps
15 ml test tubes
cork borers, scalpel or razor blade
Approach and Methodology
For this experiment we were instructed to conduct our own procedure with whichever combination
of treatment we thought best would yield the greatest amount of absorbance of betacyanin. My lab
partners and I chose to do treatments with ethanol a mild organic solvent, 1% triton a mild
detergent solution , and a combination of ethanol and triton.
We first started this experiment by obtaining twelve 15ml test tubes, in which we placed in a rack

What Is The Three Malaises Of Modernism
The essay discusses some of results of modernism drawing from Charles Taylor s notion on
instrumental and in what ways it can hinder or assist the successful teaching of the curriculum,
drawing from Paulo Freire s notion of banking method of education.
Modernism in its complexities derives from the notion that is an attitude toward divine truth (O
Neal, pp. 679 682, 1978). Sometimes difficult to define, it is a radicalisation across different types
of disciplines and era throughout lifetime. In the present day perspective, modernism moves
towards the socially progressiveness trend that builds on the whole power to recreate by improving

Development Of The Mammary Gland
Introduction 1. Normal mammary gland 1.1 normal mammary gland anatomies The normal breast
sits on the chest muscle, consisting mainly of adipose tissue, also known as mammary fat pad. The
mature mammary gland is composed of 15 20 lobes, which are each composed of smaller structure
called lobules. Tiny Lactiferous ducts connect lobules to each other. (Fig. 1b) (Schneider and
Bocker). A typical structure of duct is composed of a hollow lumen, enclosed by a layer of epithelial
luminal cells that produce milk (Fig 1c). Outside of epithelial luminal cells is a layer of
myoepithelial cell and basement membrane (Visvader). Maintain the correct morphology of duct
requires extracellular matrix which together with fibroblasts, endothelial cells, macrophages, and
adipocytes, constitute mammary stroma. Fat fills the spaces between the lobules and ducts. 1.2
Mammary gland development Development of the mammary gland starts during embryogenesis but
takes several years to complete; indeed, they are still primitive structures that are not yet connected
to the nipple, therefore are not functional at birth (Anderson and Clarke). Until puberty, breasts
grow extremely slow in size. However, at puberty, they undergo their first spurt of allometric growth
and formation of the milk producing lobules. The lobules extend into the mammary fat pad, and
glands become more complex. During each menstrual cycle, ovarian hormones induce mammary
development and new budding of structures up until the age of

Cancer In The Elderly Essay
4 Ways to Stave Off Colorectal Cancer in the Elderly
Colorectal cancer is one of the most common types of cancer affecting the elderly. Thankfully, there
are a number of actions seniors can take to prevent this disease. By maintaining a healthy lifestyle
and getting regular screening tests, seniors have a better chance of preventing colorectal or colon
cancer.
1. Adhere to Dietary Guidelines
One of the best ways to prevent colorectal cancer is to follow a healthy diet. Elderly people at risk
for cancer should limit their intake of red meat and processed meats, which means less bacon,
bologna, hamburgers, or steak. This might be a tall order for some meat aficionados, but it s
believed that carcinogens may form when red meat is cooked at high temperatures. Red meat also
contains iron, which can damage DNA. For seniors who eat red meat daily, cutting back to several
times a week is a must.
After cutting down on red meat consumption, it s important to replace unhealthy foods with
nutritious alternatives. Beans are a good substitute for meat, and fruits and vegetables are an
essential part of a preventative diet. People who primarily eat plant based foods are less likely to
develop colon cancer.
2. Regular Screenings
Seniors at risk for colorectal cancer should get regular screening tests. There are a number of ...

Discussion of the Importance of Multilingualism Among Yout...
Language is a system of representation that enables us to encode and convey meaning through the
production and combination of signs. (Neves, 2011) Multilingualism can, therefore, be described as
a person s capability to maintain and practice two or more languages in an environment. This
concept is quite commonly seen throughout South Africaas there is a total of eleven official
languages. These languages are critical in today s youth as they are exposed to a culturally diverse
society which enables them to broaden their thinking in every day life.
Language within societies can be broken down into two categories, namely Linguistic Determinism
and Linguistic Relativism. Linguistic Determinism proposes that different languages incorporate ...

During the years of language acquisition, the brain stores linguistic information but it also adapts
to the grammatical predictabilities of language. (Sakai, 2005) It is classified under Cognitive
Psychology and this development builds and enhances a child s communication skills in their
schooling careers. However, if children attend parallel medium schooling, they are likely never
to learn and use one language. They will be able to speak and write in both languages which is a
positive aspect but they may never have the full vocabulary or grammar rules as they are too busy
learning both languages instead of concentrating fully on one. The positive aspects of
multilingualism outweighs the negatives as being bilingual broadens one s opportunities in
schooling, especially in tertiary education, as well as one day when they are in search of jobs. A
person is that much more employable and more likely to be successful if they are able to participate
and communicate effectively in a growing and changing work environment.
Multilingualism can be seen as a vitally important factor amongst young South Africans as there is
a constant change occurring in the schooling and work environments. The drastic change from
Apartheid to the diverse and inclusive society today, where all languages are accepted and
recognised in South Africa s legislation, is the grounding and

Freedman And Lolita
Before sexuality was liberated by contemporary studies and social change, fantasy was what an
abstaining person had to define their sexuality in an era of chastity. Fantasies can take many forms
and continually the theme of older men with young women remains which is reminiscent of the
days when men married older and women married younger. The theme tends to bring up images of
rejuvenation, youth, and a raging sexuality. Historically, young femalesexuality was used as a tool
to define a man s own value in his eyes and the eyes of others. This conclusion becomes clear
when using the scholarly works of John D Emilio and Estelle Freedman along with the films Lolita
and American Beauty, two movies regarding an older man s sexual fixation on a... Show more

Unlike Lolita, Lester Burnham s fantasies regarding the teenaged Angela never manifest into
reality. However, they still affect his emotional stability, as did Humbert s affair with Lolita.
Lester transfers his new found sexual fantasy and freedom into an external drive to remove
himself from the listless existence in suburbia. He was missing the shared experience of the
post liberation period because his wife was isolated from him every sexual aspect of Lester is
displayed either in a fantasy or as only existing within himself. Lester began to completely
change when Angela reshaped him, personally and mentally, as a sexual being. Hearing her say
things such as if he just worked out a little, he d be hot validate him as a member of the post
liberated era in a way that his wife never did. Lester took control of his own worth as a person
and as a man. He began to act in ways that personified youthfulness and fulfilled his own life,
which fits well into the post liberation era. Angela plays an interesting role in the post liberated
context as personifying a rising expectation within society. D Emilio and Freedman had
broached the topic of a demographic shift of late marriage and increase in pre marital intercourse
that were influenced by such innovations as birth control (D Emilio and Freedman, 333).
Angela, with her explicit conversations about sex, sexuality, and Lester represents what society
may see the teenage girl as in this new era: provocative, single, and experienced. However, her
admission of inexperience in private is a sharp contrast to that expectation that exists in a new
society and reduces her role back to that of a simple child. The film is critical of the act of hiding
behind fronts of sexuality and superficiality. It acknowledges that sexuality is complex and that
society is affected deeply by

Pope Gregory The Great Essay
Is certainly one of the most notable figures in Ecclesiastical History. He has exercised in many
respects a momentous influence on the doctrine, the organization, and the discipline of the Catholic
Church. To him we must look for an explanation of the religious situation of the Middle Ages;
indeed, if no account were taken of his work, the evolution of the form of medieval Christianity
would be almost inexplicable. And further, in so far as the modern Catholic system is a legitimate
development of medieval Catholicism, of this too Gregory may not unreasonably be termed the
Father. Almost all the leading principles of the later Catholicism are found, at any rate in germ, in
Gregory the Great. . (F.H. Dudden, Gregory the Great , 1, p. v).
The preceding paper will examine the life and effect Pope Gregory (the Great) I had on medieval
Christianity up to the present day. Through this exercise we flush out the efforts and work that

Discrimination Against the Disabled Essay
It doesn t matter what you look like on the outside, it s what s on the inside that counts, but our
society today lacks to understand that. In today s time different is not accepted, people that are
different are discriminated, looked down upon and usually picked on. People with disabilities are
seen as different creatures by most people, the disabled don t choose to be the way they are, but
still our society alienates them. There are different types of disabilities, some type of disabilities
are; mental disability, physical disability, learning disability and socializing disability. These
disabilities are seen as weakness in our society that hence contribute to the stereotype that leads to
the discrimination against the disabled.

It is human nature to despise those that are different than normal. Everyone has a different
perception of normal and when someone cuts that boundary it results in discrimination. Some
people also tend to dislike the disabled due to their own weaknesses, to hide their own failures they
will look down upon the handicap to make themselves feel better. Some people s self esteem is so
tiny that they have to find someone lower than them to feel superior. Also society perceives the
disabled as useless, powerless and inefficient human beings, which also contributes to the ideology
that leads to the discrimination against the disabled. Psychological and cultural influences also
result in discrimination against the disabled. Hence, we can conclude that the fact that the disabled
are different is what leads to the discrimination against them.
Direct discrimination occurs when a person with a disability is treated less favourably than a
person who does not have a disability.
This occurs if a person is discriminated against in the following areas; employment, education and
training, provision of facilities, access to public premises, etc...
Indirect discrimination will occur where a person imposes a requirement, condition or practice that
has the effect of disadvantaging people with a protected attribute, and that is not reasonable.

Negative emotions may undermine a negotiator s ability to analyze the situation accurately, which
adversely affects individual s outcomes. (Lewicki, J. R., Barry, B., Saunders, M. D., 2011). Due
to problems between Smith and Schmidt, Peter Smith resigned from the board in December 1991.
Immediately, following his departure the board approved of a $55 million capital project for
construction of MCA s new facility, $37.5 million of which was guaranteed by the board. The
Smiths vanished from the art scene at the end of 1991 and neglected all payments on their $5

realized the construction funding on their new building, which started underway in 1993,
contingent on the Smith s pledge.
Interest align vs. opposing the position
When two people take opposite sides on any particular issue in a dispute, they both often refuse to
budge from their divergent viewpoints. Most likely outcome is a stalemate. If a solution is found
then both will win. Negotiation interests largely relate to basic human needs. They are powerful
influences in our decision making processes. Interests not only include those tangible desires which
correspond to the specific problem at hand such as increasing sales or productivity. They also link
to our more basic human emotions that are less obvious to the participants (Negotiations).

Youth Apathy And Apathy
A common sentiment among the older generations is that the youth of today have stopped caring.
The youth of today are almost always disengaged with politics and world issues (K.), and it seems
that apathy has taken hold of the new generation. However, youth apathy should not be blamed on
the youth themselves, as this apathy comes from a culmination of pressures and circumstances
beyond their control. This is due to popular shows promoting the message of apathy, the biology of
young adults and teenagers, and the oversaturation of world issues in the media. Instead of pushing
blame on youth for their apathetic leanings, it is time to examine the core of why youth begin to
feel this way. The average youth spends 9 hours per day consuming... Show more content on

Moreover, in some teenagers it may be more than hormones. A study by Oxford University
found that [it may be] more of an effort for apathetic people to turn decisions into actions ( Brain
). As such, some adolescents may be biologically predisposed to apathy, as it takes them more
time to make decisions than their more engaged counterparts. To summarise, the problem of
apathy among youth comes from the youth s biology. The prevalence of negative news within
the media has also become detrimental to the engagement of youth. The exposure to negative
media within the news can cause teenagers to experience a large amount of emotional distress,
sometimes leading to the development of post traumatic stress disorder (Pollard). As such,
adolescents bombarded by negative news may become too overwhelmed by the news that they
view, thus causing them to prefer escapism to activism. A survey from Times Mirror shows that
while more people think the news is too full of violence, fewer people today than in the 1980 s
believe that the news exaggerates the amount of violence in America (Clark). Thusly, as people
believe that the news, though full of violence, does not exaggerate this violence, adolescents
surrounded by this news may begin to feel overwhelmed by the negativity, and will stop caring.

Communication Declined
Personally, I believe the advancements in technology have greatly assisted us to communicate
with one another. However, I also believe that our communication skills have declined. The
internet was a new concept when I was younger, and the only way to reach a person was either by
phone or a letter. Then came the creation of AOL instant messenger and email. This allowed
people to speak with one another without the need to remember a telephone number or mailing
address. These new tools also assisted in the introduction of a lackadaisical mentality during
conversation. I specifically remember using a/s/l instead of typing out age, sex and location when I
was in a chat room. We became accustomed to using abbreviated terms and the need for using
proper punctuation or grammar was never frowned upon. Now my primary communicationtool is a
text message since it is much faster than calling an acquaintance. Email is the primary tool I use
when I need to formally communicate. I can be as formal as necessary while compiling my

father, and was very nosy. Soon another famine comes, and all of his brothers and sisters die,
and his father dies from being attacked by a lynx. The mother kills the lynx s kittens, and the
lynx was going to kill White Fang, but the she wolf saved White Fang and killed the lynx. The
next central setting is in an Indian camp where Grey Beaver takes White Fang and the she wolf,
who is part dog, and was named Kiche until she escaped. After they stayed at the camp for a
while, Kiche, the she wolf, is taken away down the river; White Fang is forced to stay behind
with Grey Beaver. Then the Indians moved their camp, and White Fang thrived in the wilderness
because he escaped, but he went back to the Indian camp though. When it was around winter, Grey
Beaver set off to Fort Yukon, another important setting, and Grey Beaver made White fang leader

The Perfect Murder Alfred Hitchcock Rhetorical Techniques
Alfred Hitchcock Presents The Perfect Murder : A Rhetorical Analysis In The Perfect Murder,
from Alfred Hitchcock Presents is a black and white television series aired from 1955 to 1962. It
is a story about two brothers, Paul and Henri, they are trying to come up with the perfect plan to
get their inheritance from their recently deceased uncle, by any means necessary. The only thing
stopping them is their perfectly healthy and stubborn Aunt Rosalie. Aunt Rosalie is very
perceptive, stubborn, and not fooled by anyone. She is on to the devious schemes of her not so
trustworthy nephews. This episode is filled with deception, betrayal, and greed and weaves a
wonderful tale about how people almost get away with what they deserve. This story... Show more

Henri is one of the two nephews of the rich uncle who recently passed away. From time to time
he does a short narration of the film. The story begins in the house of late uncle with the reading
of his will and continues throughout the rest of the film. The rest of the story tells about the
relationship between the two brothers, Paul and Henri, and the newly widowed and rich old
Aunt Rosalie. Considering the movie was made during 1956 the content and them are consistent
with the time frame and geared toward an adult audience that are fans of mystery movies. It has
an awesome ending twist and illustrates, quit nicely, that you always get what you deserve. The
sole purpose of this file is to deliver that message. The tone however is very inconsistent
throughout the film. When the film begins it is very gloomy and dark because of the death of
their uncle. It soon shifts into the plan of the two brothers and the tone becomes suspicious and
the music is very mysterious. Once Paul begins to lay his deceptive relationship on Aunt Rosalie
the tone changes again and becomes cheerful and happy and shows Rosalie being deceptive by
allowing Paul to act as if he had good intentions knowing all to well it was a

Social Security s Impact On The National Economy
Stephen Goss, the Chief Actuary of the Social Security Administration once said, The concepts of
solvency, sustainability, and budget impact are common in discussions of Social Security, but are
not well understood. Social Security is an important federal program that provides a stable source
of income to individuals who no longer have a constant salary due to retirement, disability, or
death. This program, not only keeps millions of families out of poverty, but it also plays a vital role
in the national economy. According to the research report, Social Securitys Impact on the National
Economy , by Gary Koenig and Al Myles, Social Security supports millions of jobs. The
importance of this program is clearly evident in both the national economy and in the economic
stability of each individual state. However, the future of the Social Security program does not look
very stable and the right decisions need to be made in order to ensure the solidity of the nations
economy.
Social Security, referred to as Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI), is paid on
a scheduled basis to workers who pay taxes and are either retired, disabled, or have passed away.
The significant role that this program plays in the U.S economy is clearly evident when the
beneficiaries spend their money on different goods and services. According to the Social Security
Administration (SSA) about 63.2 million people received benefits in 2013 and 65% of these aged
beneficiaries received half of

Selene Research Paper
Selene was the goddess of the moon. She was the daughter of Gaia (Mother Earth) and Uranus
(Father Sky). She was one of the Titans. She was the immortal sister of Helios (God of the sun)
and they were responsible for the movements of the sun and moon across the sky.
Other goddesses were also associated with the moon, however, only Selene was represented by
the old Greek poets as the moon incarnate Selene was was described as a goddess very beautiful,
with long wings and a golden diadem, calling her white armed and benevolent .
The powers of the moon goddess Selene were derived from its association with the moon. In ancient
times, the sun and moon deities were often equally powerful. The moon was often depicted as a
goddess because the moon seemed to be pregnant and give birth to a new moon each month. As
goddess of the moon, Selene was the patroness of femininity. It was believed to have the power to
ease childbirth and inspire love. It was also believed that Selene had the power to mask reality and,

Bohemian Rhapsody Rhetorical Devices
Queen s Bohemian Rhapsody , written by lead singer Freddie Mercury, is an elaborate and
intriguing best selling song from 1975. There is much speculation about what this song could be
about, but there is a general understanding that no matter it is about, the song is used to express
Mercury s feelings. Throughout the song, there are various shifts in tone and music style, which are
very important in demonstrating Mercury s emotions toward himself and others. The song is
symbolic of Mercury s emotional struggles, and through various rhetorical strategies he conveys his
confused and fragile emotions to the listeners. The introduction of the song causes the listeners to

Like the first section, Mercury uses rhetorical questions, but in this section, they serve a very
different purpose. The rhetorical questions help to emphasize Mercury s anger by taking the form
of accusations: So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye? So you think you can love me
and leave me to die? (Mercury) The music combined with the accusations help to cause the listeners
to feel some of Mercury s anger at those who have hurt him and put him in to his current emotional
state. This section goes on to beg those who hurt him to stop and leave him alone. By repeating a
few words, Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here (Mercury) he enforces the idea that he
urgently needs to leave the relationship that is hurting him and causing him all this pain. Overall,
the section is energetic and strong, and through the use of repetition and rhetorical questions, brings

the obvious, to question the world as it is taken for granted and to de familiarising the familiar.
This is what empowers critical thinking which triggers the development of the understanding of the

shaped by social context. He claims that some things in society lead to certain outcomes. when a

but where they all overlap is in their belief that a person must be able to pull away from the

The Ramist Logic of Edward Taylor s Upon a Spider...
The Ramist Logic of Edward Taylor s Upon a Spider Catching a Fly
Like other Puritanical writers of his generation, Edward Taylor looked to nature and utilized it as
an example of a belief system that he had already deemed factual. The use Ramist logic here may
seem irrational to many. The very essence of logic commands that we must first look toward nature
and then draw conclusions from it. In his work, Upon a Spider Catching a Fly , Taylor applies his
doctrine in advance by using the interaction between an arachnid and a certain contrasting insect
as an example of the Calvinist theory of predestination; the belief that one s fate cannot be
influenced by one s works or earthly deeds. It is also part of his belief system, however, that ...

type of retaliation that would ensue if the wasp is provoked, Taylor opts to use the word waspish ,
creating an adjective from the very noun that he is using it to describe. Through such a choice of
grammar, Taylor is indicating that being a wasp is synonymous with being successfully defensive.
In utter juxtaposition to the pettish wasp is the silly fly, Caught by his leg . Although in a

The Great Commission Research Paper
A THEOLOGICAL FOUNDATION FOR SMALL GROUPS

In the conclusion of the Gospel of Matthew, the remaining 11 disciples are summoned to meet with
their resurrected teacher in Galilee. It is here where Christ charges them to make disciples

For the early church this vision was the multiplication of believers who lived out what Christ
commanded. If a believer has no vision, there will be no self drive to be obedient, and if a self
drive is lacking, there can be no change. Perhaps the vision could be best defined by the Great
Commission itself. In this commission, the mission is laid out and made possible by the promised
presence of Christ.
Finally, all correction was done in grace and truth. The disciples saw Jesustime and time again

Essay On Detective Fix
Detective Fix more than an annoying character All villains are antagonists, but not all antagonists
are villains. In classic literature, the purpose of an evil character is to create a triumphant ending for
the good one. In Jules Vern s, literature Around the World in Eighty Days, the antagonist characters
possesses much more than simply being the villain in pursuance of the protagonist to impede their
clichГ© happy ending. Detective Fix a tenacious and stubborn character presents much more than
an antagonistfated to meet his doom in the end. Fix appears to impel the plot; diverting the
sequence of events to satisfy his interests, rather than emerging as a complement to valor.
However, without his efforts, the account of the journey would be predictable, depriving the
readers of suspense and anticipation towards the end of the story. His endeavor throughout the
narrative was to arrest the famed bank robber who he believes is Fogg. His in the entire journey
proves the complexity of his disposition. To understand Detective Fix s role, the reader must
overlook his malicious intents and misdeeds to observe him beyond the image of an antagonist in
classic literature. Detective Fix is a flawed man who struggles to recognize his sense of morality
because of false determination and greed. Detective fix... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Data regarding its habitat affinities and population status are lacking. Larvae of Blackburn s
sphinx moth feed on plants in the nightshade family (Solanaceae). The native host plants are trees
within the genus Nothocestrum (aiea) on which the larvae consume leaves, stems, flowers, and
buds. Many of the host plants recorded for this species are not native to the Hawaiian Islands. The
non natives include: commercial tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum), tree tobacco (Nicotiana glauca),
eggplant (Solanum melongena), tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum), and possibly, Jimsonweed
(Datura stramonium). Blackburn s sphinx moth adults have been documented feeding on nectar
of the native Hawaiian morning glory species, Ipomoea indica. The Hawaiian native caper

  • 3. My Papas Waltz Analysis Essay Gabriella Cerqua Analyze Poem Story My Papa s Waltz The style and purpose of dancing has changed throughout the years of existence. From culture to culture, dancing is passed through generations as another form of communicating. Dancing has been used as a healing method throughout Europe, and in the 1900 s people would attend balls as a social gathering and use dancing as a way to court someone; yet today as a form of artistic talent people dance to express emotions and feelings. In the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within this dance, Roethke demonstrates the abusive relationship as the father receives a battered knuckle and the boy with a scraped ear. Even though the boy had to deal with his drunken father physically and emotionally abusing him, he didn t mind it as long as he had his father. The boy didn t care that his fathers whiskey breath almost made him dizzy, or that he had to cling on to his father during this dance that should have been easy for him to execute but was difficult for him to perform because of his father s drunkenness. The last stanza sums up the poem with the father waltzing the son off to bed. The young boy didn t want to let go of his father, for he feared that letting go of his father would symbolically end the relationship that they had. The last sentence still clinging onto your shirt describes the love and the longing he had for his dad. To add on, society understands that in a child s youth, growing up in an abusive environment is impactful on his/her life, and the boy wanted to keep the connection he had with his dad. From just reading this poem, the reader narrows down on one day into the life of this father and son dancing throughout the house, and in such a way, Roethke captured and connected the dancing of the waltz with the relationship between the father and his son. Roethke portrayed his own personal experiences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As major sectors of the economy, the agriculture, industry and services sectors contribute 4.9 percent, 13.6 percent and 11.1 percent respectively (Geiger and Moller, 2013). It recommends cement plants to install pollution prevention and control techniques. Further, Kumar and Rawani (2012) revealed that in cement production process, environmental impacts are significant starting from pre production phase to end yielding phase typically greenhouse gases. Moreover, since clinker production is a major for energy input, emission potential, product quality and cost in cement plants, toxic pollutants were released from physical and chemical reactions of the raw materials and fuels of this cement kiln system (EEA, 2009). In line with this, cement production contributes about 10% to the total global mercury emissions (Marquita, 2010). Additionally, Oss and Padovani (2002) stated that the environmental issues of cement manufacturing is related to general mining and mineral processing as local, regional and global problem. These are local problems such as dust, ground subsidence, noise, vibrations, chemical contamination, tailings spills, scenic and local ecologic degradation, and health problems among miners. The regional scale problems are acid rain and contamination of surface and/or groundwater, spills of processing chemicals and stream sediment loading. The global scale problems are effects of minerals use and anthropogenic greenhouse gases in global warming. • 9. Horse Power Farm Video Analysis The three videos I choose to watch were Horse Power Farm, Lakeside Orchards, and Ayotte Farm. Horse Power Farm is located in Penobscot, Maine and owned by Paul Birdsall. The distinguishing features are on the farm s focus for producing vegetables and timber, and relying on their horses instead of machinery. Paul s farmis specifically a mixed practice as they do have a tractor, but draft horses are the key component. Another unique aspect of this farm is that as Paul said, training apprentices is the most important thing they do. Without the apprentices help, they are limited in the amount of work they can get done. Lakeside Orchards is located in Kennebec County and is owned by Steve and Marilyn Meyerhans. They also own The Apple Farm located in Fairfield, Maine. The distinguishing features for these two farms are the apples and apple products produced. These are designed to sift the potatoes and transfer them to another row so the harvester is able to pick up multiple rows at once. In addition, Ayotte Farm was unique in that they re involved in a contract system. Because of this they mainly grow a certain type of potato for the french fry industry. • 10. How The Corset Evolved From A Staple Of The British... ¬¬¬¬¬The fall and rise of the corset: From Queen Victoria to Jean Paul Gaultier. In this essay I want to examine how the corset evolved from a staple of the British feminine wardrobe of the Nineteenth Century into a symbol of an outmoded tradition only to later return as a statement of female liberation. I am going to look at different aspects of this development including technological advances, economic facts, external events, particularly the First World War and changes in social, political and aesthetic attitudes. I will also look briefly at the role of Chanel on the silhouette and how this impacted on the corset: focusing on the trend to towards opulent androgyny in the 1920 s. Finally I will examine the resurgence of the corset... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Laces usually fastened corsets at the back and were drawn tightly to alter the silhouette. The product was a wasp waist effect, or as some have expressed, the hour glass figure . The corset was of course associated with high society and was an important signifier of social class. For example in the grand balls that often featured in Victorian novels, a restrictive corset was part of the essential uniform Becky Sharpe in Vanity Fair for example. It also became associated with the dandy aesthetic of the late Nineteenth Century (Oscar Wilde being an example) when it was worn by men. In the latter part of the Victorian era there were significant developments signaling the decline of the corset. The way garments were produced is perhaps the key factor in the move away from the corset. In 1839, a Frenchman by the name of Jean Werly patented a loom for the production of women s corsets. This type of corset was popular until 1890, when machine made corsets gained popularity. The development of the sewing machine in the early 1850 s gradually led to mass production, manufacturers could produce corsets in far greater numbers and increase the variety of designs available to women of all classes. These advances finally led the way to new designs in underwear in keeping with the changes to the fashions and silhouettes of the early Twentieth Century. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. My Lesson Sequence Using Venn Diagrams And Composition I assess prior knowledge throughout my lesson sequence using a variety of ways. Before beginning the learning segment, I will look at students prior work on comparing and contrasting to see where each student is at in regards to their level of understanding. I found that while some students had a good understanding of the strategy, there were still many students that could use a thorough introduction to the concept. This allowed for me to begin planning ways to differentiate my instruction to include the higher students and the lower students. I crafted the Central Focus students practice compare and contrast by using Venn Diagrams and composing a paragraph that includes an introductory sentence, two three details about how the two things are alike and different, and a concluding sentence, to encompass requisite skills for my learningsegment. The learning targets for lesson 1,2, and 3, also address questions related to knowledgeand skills aligned with the Central Focus that support studentlearning. To reach the learning objective for lesson one, students practice with me and with a pre assigned partner before doing anything by themselves. To provide additional support to students with literacy needs and IEP/504 plans, I monitor their progress, offer guidance with questions and different examples if needed, and give verbal cues during each lesson. When developing the central focus for my learning segment, I ensured to use lesson activities that address student assets based ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Life Coaching History Essay The History of Life Coaching and Why You Should Care Life coaching does not have a precise date marking its beginnings since humans developed the innate ability to gain knowledge and enlightenment back at the beginning of civilization. However, the theoretical origins of life coaching can be traced to a number of disciplines including business management, sports psychology and targeted individual development techniques such as primal therapy and sensitivity training. The idea took off as recent as the 90 s with the entrenchment of social imagination as one of the core values defining the science and art of coaching. This development is attributed to the advances made in the 70 s and 80 s, when this form of coaching took the self help and business dimension. The term life coaching is currently unregulated; this means people can use the term at their discretion. However, there have been attempts by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council and the International Coach Federation to come up with an operative code of conduct. One of the most well known corporate accounting scandals was the Enron scandal, which was exposed in 2001. Enron, an energy company that was considered one of the most financially sound corporations in the United States before the scandal, produced false earnings reports to shareholders and kept large debts off the accounting books (Peavler, 2016). Enronexecutives also committed fraud by embezzling corporate funds and manipulating the stock market. Enron shareholders lost around $74 billion dollars, Enron employees lost their retirement accounts, and some Enron employees even lost their jobs (The 10 Worst Corporate Accounting Scandalsof All Time, n.d.). Another corporate accounting scandal that occurred in the United States before the Sarbanes Oxley Act came into effect was the WorldCom scandal in 2002. Seventeen thousand employees were fired and $3.8 billion dollars in profit were removed from their accounting books after an internal audit discovered improper expense accounting in 2001 and 2002. This improper accounting inflated the cash flow so the company would not report a net loss, only a net gain (Hancock, 2002). Devaluing the currency alone will not improve the trade balance. Instead, there becomes a need to limit the consumption. In the case of food imports, which accounts for about 12 percent of import expenditure in Sri Lanka, the government expects the price increases to result in import substitution, which will likely take time. The most forceful argument for devaluation is that it ensures the competitiveness of exports. The question here is whether the extent of depreciation would be adequate to ensure that the real effective exchange ratewould ensure competitiveness. Again, there are some governments that do try to attempt to influence the value of their currency by ways of intervention. The most notable offender in recent years is that of China, who has sought to keep its currency undervalued to make Chinese exports more competitive against other heavily traded Asian markets. They can do this by buying US dollar assets, which increases the value of the US dollar to Chinese Yuan ratio. (Factors Which Influence the Exchange Rate) Because the current financial status is so heavily dependent on exporting, the continuous management of the exchange rate to ensure export competitiveness is essential for China and Sri Lanka. A reduction in exports could affect the economy seriously as a decline in exports could affect economic growth, employment and incomes. (Sanderatne) It has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Normal mammary gland 1.1 normal mammary gland anatomies The normal breast sits on the chest muscle, consisting mainly of adipose tissue, also known as mammary fat pad. The mature mammary gland is composed of 15 20 lobes, which are each composed of smaller structure called lobules. Tiny Lactiferous ducts connect lobules to each other. (Fig. 1b) (Schneider and Bocker). A typical structure of duct is composed of a hollow lumen, enclosed by a layer of epithelial luminal cells that produce milk (Fig 1c). Outside of epithelial luminal cells is a layer of myoepithelial cell and basement membrane (Visvader). Maintain the correct morphology of duct requires extracellular matrix which together with fibroblasts, endothelial cells, macrophages, and adipocytes, constitute mammary stroma. He was missing the shared experience of the post liberation period because his wife was isolated from him every sexual aspect of Lester is displayed either in a fantasy or as only existing within himself. Lester began to completely change when Angela reshaped him, personally and mentally, as a sexual being. Hearing her say things such as if he just worked out a little, he d be hot validate him as a member of the post liberated era in a way that his wife never did. Lester took control of his own worth as a person and as a man. He began to act in ways that personified youthfulness and fulfilled his own life, which fits well into the post liberation era. Angela plays an interesting role in the post liberated context as personifying a rising expectation within society. D Emilio and Freedman had broached the topic of a demographic shift of late marriage and increase in pre marital intercourse that were influenced by such innovations as birth control (D Emilio and Freedman, 333). Angela, with her explicit conversations about sex, sexuality, and Lester represents what society may see the teenage girl as in this new era: provocative, single, and experienced. However, her admission of inexperience in private is a sharp contrast to that expectation that exists in a new society and reduces her role back to that of a simple child. The film is critical of the act of hiding behind fronts of sexuality and superficiality. It acknowledges that sexuality is complex and that society is affected deeply by ... • 33. Pope Gregory The Great Essay Is certainly one of the most notable figures in Ecclesiastical History. He has exercised in many respects a momentous influence on the doctrine, the organization, and the discipline of the Catholic Church. To him we must look for an explanation of the religious situation of the Middle Ages; indeed, if no account were taken of his work, the evolution of the form of medieval Christianity would be almost inexplicable. And further, in so far as the modern Catholic system is a legitimate development of medieval Catholicism, of this too Gregory may not unreasonably be termed the Father. Almost all the leading principles of the later Catholicism are found, at any rate in germ, in Gregory the Great. . (F.H. Dudden, Gregory the Great , 1, p. v). The preceding paper will examine the life and effect Pope Gregory (the Great) I had on medieval Christianity up to the present day. Through this exercise we flush out the efforts and work that Gregory to advance early Christendom. In today s time different is not accepted, people that are different are discriminated, looked down upon and usually picked on. People with disabilities are seen as different creatures by most people, the disabled don t choose to be the way they are, but still our society alienates them. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is human nature to despise those that are different than normal. Everyone has a different perception of normal and when someone cuts that boundary it results in discrimination. Some people also tend to dislike the disabled due to their own weaknesses, to hide their own failures they will look down upon the handicap to make themselves feel better. Some people s self esteem is so tiny that they have to find someone lower than them to feel superior. Also society perceives the disabled as useless, powerless and inefficient human beings, which also contributes to the ideology that leads to the discrimination against the disabled. Psychological and cultural influences also result in discrimination against the disabled. Hence, we can conclude that the fact that the disabled are different is what leads to the discrimination against them. Direct discrimination occurs when a person with a disability is treated less favourably than a person who does not have a disability. This occurs if a person is discriminated against in the following areas; employment, education and training, provision of facilities, access to public premises, etc... The youth of today are almost always disengaged with politics and world issues (K.), and it seems that apathy has taken hold of the new generation. However, youth apathy should not be blamed on the youth themselves, as this apathy comes from a culmination of pressures and circumstances beyond their control. This is due to popular shows promoting the message of apathy, the biology of young adults and teenagers, and the oversaturation of world issues in the media. A study by Oxford University found that [it may be] more of an effort for apathetic people to turn decisions into actions ( Brain ). As such, some adolescents may be biologically predisposed to apathy, as it takes them more time to make decisions than their more engaged counterparts. To summarise, the problem of apathy among youth comes from the youth s biology. The prevalence of negative news within the media has also become detrimental to the engagement of youth. The exposure to negative media within the news can cause teenagers to experience a large amount of emotional distress, sometimes leading to the development of post traumatic stress disorder (Pollard). As such, adolescents bombarded by negative news may become too overwhelmed by the news that they view, thus causing them to prefer escapism to activism. A survey from Times Mirror shows that while more people think the news is too full of violence, fewer people today than in the 1980 s believe that the news exaggerates the amount of violence in America (Clark). Then came the creation of AOL instant messenger and email. This allowed people to speak with one another without the need to remember a telephone number or mailing address.
