The Social Political Ramifications Of Immigration
The Social Political ramifications of Immigration in America History shows that many nations have
been born due to immigration. The settlement of new colonies resulted in various cultures living
within one country. According to the U.S. Bureau of Census, more than 60 million Americans have
recent roots from other countries (Hirschman). Immigration may appear minor in the multitude of
traits that characterize nations and their people, but there is no doubt of its mass effect. Immigration is
the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country; and its counterpart, emigration, is the
act of leaving one s own country in order to settle permanently in another. Reasons for emigration are
diverse. Some seek to escape a nation locked in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Immigration was nothing new to America. All United States citizens can claim some immigrant
experience, whether during prosperity or despair, brought by force or by choice. In the 1500 s a group
of people came to America, these were the ancestors of the many Native American cultures, which
would repopulate the area for thousands of years. They would also bring with them their traditions and
their different cultures. Then during colonial times 50,000 convicts were transported to the colonies
from English jails. Convicts weren t the only thing being dumped into the colonies, North America
was a dumping ground for religious ideas (Influence of Immigration). Of the 3.9 million people
counted, the English were the largest ethnic group. Nearly 20% were of African heritage. German,
Scottish and Irish residents were also well represented. Pilgrims in the early 1600s, arrived in search
of religious freedom. From the 17th to 19th centuries, hundreds of thousands of African slaves came
to America against their will (Ryan Holeywell). Africans had impacted southern American with
cooking from Africa. African music was also very influential. Another major wave of immigration
occurred from around 1815 to 1865. The majority of these newcomers hailed from Northern and
Western Europe.

Medea And Oedipus Comparison Essay

Oedipus The King Vs Medea
Now as we keep our watch and wait the final day, count no man happy till he dies, free of pain at last
(Sophocles 134). This particular quote encompasses the idea of Oedipus The King written by
Sophocles, a play that tells the story of the new reigning king of Thebes. Through fate, Oedipus met
his end by blinding himself all due to the fact that he would not let go of the past. This quote also
applies to Medea by Euripides, a play about a woman named Medea, who is driven to kill her kids
because of a betrayal of her husband, Jason. The main similarities between these two plays are that
they are both based on Greek Mythology, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I find that there is an equal amount of similarities and differences within the text of the play. Starting
with Oedipus, we see that he is a very sympathetic leader who always wants to provide a personal
connection with that of his community. He is fighting so hard to remove the plague that is stricken
over his city of Thebes. This specifically tells us about what type of character Oedipus is as a person
and not only that but we see him portrayed as a victim of fate throughout the entire play. Main reason
for that is because he was bound by the ankles as a child. Some examples that support Oedipus kind
moral are as follows, But we do rate you first of men, both in the common crises of our lives and face
to face encounters with the gods...We taught you nothing, no skill, no extra knowledge, still you
triumphed... and Speak out, speak to us all. I grieve for these, my people, far more than I fear for my
own life (Sophocles 94 96). These quotes show how respected Oedipus is within his community and
that he can relate to them on a personal and spiritual level and not just governmental. Truly fate is
what caused Oedipus to fall greatly but it does not lesson his character at all because he accepts
punishment by blinding

Year Round Schooling Is Better Than Traditional Schooling
Year Round Schools
Versus
Traditional Schools
By: Shaun Herman
Shaun Herman

Task 2
Year round schooling is better than traditional schooling because, the summer retention is much
higher, special education and english language learners benefit much more, end of the year test scores
are higher and the year round school calendar fits our culture more now than it used to with the
traditional school year.
As an education major with a focus in special education, I was trying to figure out what to write and
research for this paper. Starting to look at the the topics list at the bottom was the topic Year Round
Schools. Looking at that and realizing, that sounded like a silly idea when I was a student, why would
I not want a longer summer break. However as I am an educator myself now and realize that a one or
two week break every other month sounds a like terrific idea. Then after researching the topic I
learned that not only is the schedule different but they re many more benefits to year round schools
than their traditional counterparts. Year round school research shows that their children have better
end of the year test scores. They also show that English language learner children and Special
Education children learn at a faster pace than the children at traditional schools with the same
programs. Also the summer break retention rate of what the children learn throughout the year and
then remember is much higher in year round

Did The Big Bang Happen
Did the big bang really happen? Many people may disagree with me, but I still believe the Big Bang
really happened. The Universe had to start somehow, didn t it? Sure people always tell me that god
created the Universe and that my beliefs are incorrect. Yet, I recall the Bible saying that God created
the Heavens and Earth... not the Universe. So yes, I, Tatiana believe in the big bang and nobody can
change that! But ... How did the Universe begin? What is the big bang? I guess you will just have to
continue reading on.
The Universe was this tiny super atom, and between 12 and 20 million years ago it exploded, creating
as we know it today, the Big bang. It sent matter in every which way, and that was just the beginning
of the Universe. As it was forming, nearly all of the earth was made up of this huge cloud of hydrogen.
Some of the hydrogen mixed with helium and developed into stars. ... Show more content on

This resulted in the bigger clouds pressing tightly together, which formed the galaxies.
Back to my topic, did the Big Bang really happen? Like I said before, I think it did. First of all, we
need a reason on how the world was created that isn t religion based. Second, we have scientific proof
that the big bang actually happened.
Just like I said above, we need a reason that isn t religion based. In my lifetime (which hasn t been
much) one too many people have asked if I believed in God, just because I believe that the big bang
happened. the big bang happened. I always say Yes I believe in god, but that doesn t mean I don t
think that the big bang happened. Sure, I ve read the bible, and it said god created the heavens and
earth. Nowhere in that verse did it say god created the

Describe New York City
There are two main reasons I have applied to NYU. The first is because New York City is my favorite
place in the world. The first time I came to New York was with my mom. We had taken a bus from
Vermont to Massachusetts and then into New York. The bus ride was long and uncomfortable, but I
was as bouncy and ecstatic. When I stepped out of the Port Authority Bus Terminal and on to 8th
Avenue, there was only one word that could accurately describe the feeling; home. Even though I was
only able to be in the city for seventeen hours, every minute felt like a lifetime. My mom and I spent
most of the day in the Theatre District, except for a quick trip uptown to the Hamilton Grange
National Memorial. It was uptown that I figured out there was nowhere

The Tragedy Of United States
On September 11, 2001, one of the most sorrowful events in American history occurred. One whose
impact would be heart felt for years to come. While Americans slept, the lives of many were taken.A
total of four planes were hijacked and used for suicidal acts in American. Two were crashed into the
twin towers in New York, one hit the pentagon right outside of D.C, and the other crashed into a field
in Pennsylvania. On a clear Tuesday morning at 8:45 a.m, an American Airline with 20,000 jet fuel
crashed into the North Tower. Killing Hundreds of people instantly and leaving no hope for others to
escape above the 80th floor of the tower (contained 110 floors), the road to escape was impossible.
New York got hectic. Many believed it was a mistake, as others questioned whether or not it was real
or not.As the people began to evacuate the tower, news began to report on it and began to televise live
images of the accident. Then 18 minutes, after the first attack, United Airlines 175 appeared in the sky.
It turned to the south tower and collided with the tower right near the 60th floor. After a massive
Explosion, debris began to fall on the builds and surroundings around the towers. American and
Americans then knew they were under attack. While Millions were watching as the destruction began
to unfold in New York there was more to come. At 9:45 am, Americans Airline Flight 77 crashed right
into the west side of the pentagon a military headquarter. Killing 125 military people, the 64

Child Soldiers And Its Effects On Children
The former President of the Uganda People s Congress, Olara Otunnu, viewed the extensive use of
child soldiers as compelled to become instruments of war, to kill and be killed, child soldiers are
forced to give violent expression to the hatreds of adults, ( Olara Otunnu, Advocate for Children s
Rights ). Otunnu elaborates how children are unable to show fear or any other emotion that defines
them as human, because they are forced to follow what their capturers tell them to do. Children in
armed conflicts are captured to be manipulated and brainwashed into doing inhumane actions and are
used as objects rather than being children. The most well known country to adapt the idea of child
soldiers is Uganda in South Africa. Child soldiers are individuals under the age of eighteen that are in
armed forces and held captive as soldiers or any other useful jobs. Both boys and girls play a role in
the use of child soldiers, as girls are commonly used as sex slaves, while most boys are used as
soldiers. The use of child soldiers violates human rights, such as Article four, five, twelve and twenty
five from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The violations of human rights demonstrate
how children are used as objects rather than human beings. Children are forced to become soldiers or
slaves and once captured, they have no right to defend themselves and escape.
A rebel group in Uganda, known as the Lord s Resistance Army (LRA), currently convicts these
violations. This action

Out-Traditional Family
The nuclear family, and its out dated definition given by George Murdock, was once considered the
most natural and unquestioned of all family structures. However, as the definition of family expands
to encompass more than just heterosexual relationships with two children, this unquestioned model is
beginning to look out dated. However, a new trend is emerging that is allowing the nuclear family to
keep its form while still moving into the new 21st century model of family. It has now become the
norm to have mothers in the workforce, but what about fathers. Where is their change in pace? In
recent years the number of stay at home fathers has been increasing, and with this modification to the

A Social Science Research Project
Meggie! my mother hollered roughly, would you just take a few minutes to clean out your closet? I
could spy your tank tops from under that pile of smelly socks. Not to mention the mountain of dirty
laundry on that unmade bed is gross. I sighed and leaned against the sofa. But here comes my father
smirking beside me, Can you give me a kiss before you head off to school? Immediately, I grabbed my
keys and walked out of the house with my unzipped backpack, not bothering to even look at him.
Sometimes, I just wish my morning routine could have a slight change. To simply put, I really don t
want to walk out the house while rolling my eyes hard, at least not that often. As part of a social
science research project developed at UBC, I am now stranded on a small remote island. Surprisingly,
my cabin, particularly the closet is unnaturally clean. No dirty laundry in sight and the bed is
miraculously made every day. Although I have all the necessities of life, there is still something
missing. I feel lonely. My heart aches simply from my parent s absence. It is not until I have to spend
a year on this island, away from home that I finally realize how much I appreciate them more than I
already do. In order to get through the dreadful days, I m reminiscing about the two most important
people in my life.
Seeing cruises and boats sailing through the waves from my cabin windows, I can recall an early
childhood memory. I used to tell my mother, Look! Boats know how to swim just like

Factors That Increase My Dairy Intake
Looking at the above increase list, I decided to increase my portion of vegetables to at least 1.5 cup by
including more variety of veggies to my morning breakfast smoothies and as a side of salad or
steamed veggies at every meal. Vegetables are excellent sources of an array of vitamins especially
brightly colored veggies and dark green veggies. By including more veggies in my diet, I am
essentially helping myself up my intake of vitamins as well, since I am especially low in vitamin A,
vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin D, vitamin E and folate, by increasing consumption of veggies from
different subgroups like brightly colored veggies ( e.g. sweet potatoes, carrots and red peppers) , dark
leafy greens (e.g. kale, collard and spinach) and cruciferous vegetables (e.g. broccoli, brussels sprouts
and cauliflower), which are packed with vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6,
vitamin C, vitamin E and folate. Next on my list, is to increase my dairy intake by including low fat
yogurt and fortified soy milk, for example, 1 cup of Silk soy milk provides not only vitamin D, but
also vitamins A and vitamin B12. This will help me increase my vitamin D intake, which I was sadly
below the recommendation. Also by including more fatty fish like salmon and tuna in my diet will
also help me increase my vitamin D intake. Another good source of vitamin D intake is the sun, so
spending some time early in the mornings without sunscreen will also help me achieve this goal.

The Diagnosis Personal Narrative
One fateful day at the end of June in 1998 when I was spending some time at home; my mother came
to me with the bad news: my parent s best friend, Tommy, had been diagnosed with brain cancer. He
had been sick for some time and we all had anxiously been awaiting a prognosis. But none of us were
ready for the bumpy roads that lay ahead: testing, surgery, chemotherapy, nausea, headaches, and
fatigue. Even loud music would induce vomiting. He just felt all around lousy. After several surgeries

the next weekend the healing would take place. We were all anxiously awaiting the day. It finally

through the tension in the car. I walked up the path, my heart echoing the faint sound of a beating
drum. As we came upon a clearing I began to feel nervous and a bit unsure. No one knew what to

common bond we all shared. Looking upon his withered body almost broke my heart. He looked frail,
nothing but brittle bones beneath his skin. His head is nearly bald with a few patches of the deep, dark

The it that I m speaking of is known as propaganda. Propaganda can be a tricky word to define
because of the different ways it is utilized and the many words that it is nearly synonymous with. To

Propaganda is used to promote a certain cause to a mass audience through mass media. Propaganda
can be used to spread information for good or bad reasons and has been known to do both. The use of
propaganda for bad reasons has caused many people to view it as a deceitful word, one that stretches
the truth and blows things out of proportion to gain support even though that is not always the case.
For example, propaganda likes to use testimonials, glittering generalities, card stacking, and other
techniques to present information in the best and most biased light (Ogelsbee, n.d.). The article
Defining Propaganda (n.d.) explains that propaganda can spread its message through a variety of
mediums such as pictures, drawings, exhibits, speeches, parades, songs, and so forth. It can present
itself in such a way that the audience won t even realize what it is, which can help with its
effectiveness. Basically, this means propaganda can be concealed or open. It can also weasel its way
into your life and leave a lasting emotional effect by using a combination of emotional and logical
appeals (Defining Propaganda, n.d.). Propaganda typically appeals to emotion because it helps get a
message across in a short amount of time and is the most effective. All of this means that propaganda

Google s People Management Division On The Topic Essay
Executive Summary
This case discusses the research, implementation, and review of Google s people management division
on the topic Do Managers Matter? Starting as soon as the early 2000 s but coming to full steam in
2009, Google s people analytics group initiated a research project, deemed Project Oxygen, to
investigate if and how management style would potentially affect employees. Through lengthy data
collection, Project Oxygen members discovered that a certain eight management characteristics
resulted in a noticeably larger gain in efficiency and overall happiness of subordinates. Google s
internal reviews proved exceptionally important, as the culture instilled through the founders is
inherently different than other large corporations, as is the relatively flat organization structure. By
taking the previously stated eight characteristics, implementing feedback surveys, and providing
courses for low scoring areas, Project Oxygen members were able to cultivate improvements in each
manager s ability, not only in their Mountain View headquarters, but globally. These improvements
were not without hesitations. Nevertheless, the results and implementation of Project Oxygen resulted
in drastic increases in the overall management rating. Google was not only able to determine how
managers do matter, but were able to develop managers beyond their current performance. This
success of Project Oxygen inevitably prompts the question of what other projects can cultivate
improvements

Investigating The Heat Of Reaction Of A Combustion Reaction
Purpose
Utilize Hess s Law to determine the heat of reaction of a combustion reaction.
Procedures
Part A Reaction of Magnesium with Hydrochloric Acid:
Materials were gathered and the mass of a calorimeter was measured, then HCl was poured into the
calorimeter and the mass was measured again. A 7 cm magnesium ribbon strip was cut into two parts,
approximately 4 cm and 3 cm, respectively. The temperature of the HCl was recorded, then the 3 cm
magnesium strip was added to the solution and the temperature was measured again. Another trial was
conducted with the 4 cm strip after the disposal of the first mixture.
Part B Reaction of Magnesium Oxide with Hydrochloric Acid:
Materials were gathered and the mass of a calorimeter was measured, then HCl was poured into the
calorimeter and the mass was measured again. The temperature of the hydrochloric acid was recorded,
then .20 grams of magnesium oxide was added to the HCl solution and the temperature was measured
for the highest achieved value. Another trial was conducted after the disposal of materials.

Essay A Comparison of Macbeth and Hamlet
A Comparison of Macbeth and Hamlet MACBETH stands in contrast throughout with Hamlet; in the
manner of opening more especially. In the latter, there is a gradual ascent from the simplest forms of
conversation to the language of impassioned intellect, yet the intellect still remaining the seat of
passion: in the former, the invocation is at once made to the imagination and the emotions connected
therewith. Hence the movement throughout is the most rapid of all Shakspeare s plays; and ... Show

affected bravado in confronting them. In all the rest, Macbeth s language is the grave utterance of the
very heart, conscience sick, even to the last faintings of moral death. It is the same in all the other
characters. The variety arises from rage, caused ever and anon by disruption of anxious thought, and
the quick transition of fear into it.
In Hamlet and Macbeth the scene opens with superstition; but, in each it is not merely different, but
opposite. In the first it is connected with the best and holiest feelings; in the second with the shadowy,
turbulent, and unsanctified cravings of the individual will. Nor is the purpose the same; in the one the
object is to excite, whilst in the other it is to mark a mind already excited. Superstition, of one sort or
another, is natural to victorious generals; the instances are too notorious to need mentioning. There is

Muscle Vertebrates
This type of muscle is the most prominent muscle throughout the muscular system in vertebrates.
These types of muscles are affixed to bones by tissue called tendons, their main role is to provide
movement of the bones by contracting and relaxing. The way this works is in antagonistic pairs. An
example of an antagonistic pair is in the arm. The bicep muscle contracts when the arm is lifted,
pulling the bone up while the tricep muscle relaxes. However when the arm is lowered, the bicep
muscles relaxes and the tricep muscle contracts, pulling the bone down. The muscle that contracts is
known as the agonist, it provides a force which completes the movement so when the arm is lifted, the
bicep is the agonist but when the arm is lowered, the tricep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The heart pumps blood throughout the body and transports oxygen, nutrients to all of the cells within
the human body. This type of muscle is found in the walls of the heart. This type of muscle cell is
involuntary, it pumps blood throughout the body and we have no conscious control of this muscle
because if we did and we controlled the cardiac muscle to stop, our heart would stop beating which
means our muscles, tissues or cells would not get oxygen and nutrients which could cause severe
damage to our body. Th muscle tissue consists of cardiac muscles cells which interlock with each
other, giving the tissue its properties, the muscle cells have a branched shape which ensures that a
single cell is in contact with other cardiac cells. A cardiac cell on its own is not strong enough to pump
blood throughout the body but the quality of the cells that interlock, makes it easy for the muscle to
pump blood throughout the body within seconds. The signals from interlocking cells allows the
muscle to contract extremely quickly pumping blood throughout the body. Cardiac muscle has a high
contractile strength and endurance as it spends most of its life pumping blood throughout the body.
Certain cells called pacemaker cells stimulate other cardiac muscle cells, which gives the muscle its
own contraction

Describe Realistic Strategies That Canadians Could Take to...
Describe realistic strategies that Canadians could take to reduce their negative impact on land, water
and the atmosphere.
Ever since the dawn of industrialization, humans have caused serious, irreversible damage to the
biosphere. And as the world progresses and Canadians looks on, they realized the impact of their
environmental damage. Sometimes new ecofriendly technology enters the market and replaces the old
environment damaging one. But that is not enough, human society as a whole must completely rethink
and change themselves individually to so that their actions causes minimal environmental backlash.
Though the problem of environmental damage is a global one, there is nothing stopping Canadians

Simple everyday things for Canadians to reduce water consumption would to fix leaky faucets, take
shorter showers, and turn off the tap when they brush their teeth. Other courses of action for people
would be to install toilets that use less water per flush and for the government, they could start to tax
people for water usage. Some strategies to farmers would be to use drip irrigation systems, which
deliver water directly to the plants roots. The atmosphere is another important component of the
biosphere. Every day, countless cars and factories releases greenhouse gases and pollutes it. A simple
strategy would be do not use cars. Instead of driving, people can bike to work or even walk there. In
fact, carpooling and taking public transit would create less atmospheric pollution than an individual
driving their own car. In addition, people can buy locally grown foods to reduce their greenhouse
footprint . By buying locally grown foods, it supports local businesses as well reduces emissions
because the food traveled shorter distances. And finally, eco activists and even concerned folks can
hire lobbyists to exert pressure on the government to create environmental policies that help to protect
the atmosphere. As the world looks on, people start to realize that the problem of environmental

LAWRENCE KOHLBERG S LEVELS OF MORALITY
Abstract
This purpose of this is to describe Kohlberg s theory of morality in detail; I will describe each level
that pertains to this theory and how they have affected me personally. Lawrence Kohlberg theory of
moral development is divided into three different levels; the first level is the preconventional level
followed by the conventional level, and then the postconventonal level. Within each of these levels,
each level contains two different stages, resulting in six stages in all. Kohlberg s was influenced by
Jean Piaget s theory, his theory focused on cognitive development, but he was motivated Piaget s
theory that described how a child develops moral understanding. It encouraged Kohlberg to research
deeper and develop his theory of moral development more in depth. For Kohlberg s research, he
decided to use the interviewing technique using moral dilemmas. Kohlberg used several different
techniques for his research strategies, but he had one famous dilemma, known as the Heinz dilemma ,
also defined as, pits the value of obeying the law (not stealing) against the value of human life (saving
a dying person) (Berk, 2014 pg. 323).

Essay on Women s Roles in Greek Society
The Iliad uncovers the truth behind what Greeks believed to be the role of women in society. The
Greek goddesses and the mortal women represent two sides that women had in society. The Greek
goddesses held power over the war, whereas, the mortal women are there as prizes or timé. Aphrodite
is the prime example of a goddess who held a lot of power, mainly by using manipulation, in the
Trojan War. Helen represents the quintessential idea of a woman representing timé. These two
portrayals of women in Greek society depict how people recognized women s role in society, with
Aphrodite representing a woman with power as a manipulative goddess and Helen representing a
woman who was merely timé, a prize to be obtained. Aphrodite expressed her ... Show more content

Aphrodite is a symbol of that view of women in Greek society; however, Aphrodite not only uses her
power of manipulation against men, but also against women. Aphrodite manipulates Helen in order to
serve her needs. Helen is used as an unwilling tool of Aphrodite s ambition (Allan 149). Helen is
controlled from the beginning by Aphrodite, who causes Helen to fall in love with Paris. F.J. Groten
discussed that Helen went with Paris because she was under the spell of Aphrodite; Helen was
deprived of her judgement and surrendered herself to the charms of Paris (36). In Book III, when Paris
comes back from a duel with Menelaus, Aphrodite goes to Helen to tell her to go to bed with Paris.
When Helen refuses, Aphrodite threatens her exclaiming, Cease to provoke me, lest I make thee more,
the world s aversion, than their love before; now the bright prize for which mankind engage, than, the
sad victim, of the public rage (The Iliad 105). Helen has no choice but to comply with Aphrodite s
commands because Aphrodite is telling Helen to obey or she will make all people hate her. Aphrodite
needs Helen to sleep with Paris because Aphrodite must keep Paris happy to maintain her end of the
deal, which was to give him Helen in love. She is also taunting Hera and Athena with her power and
ability to control the situation. Aphrodite brings out the manipulative trait that men see in women
during this time period. They are aware of a woman s

Thomas Jefferson And Martin Luther King Jr.
We are all pretty familiar with Thomas Jefferson and Martin Luther King Jr., both being significant
historical figures, fighting for different ideas. During the 1700s , Jefferson was growing up in a rich
white environment and privileged to the extent where he is later classified as an American founding
father. A very different background compared to the majority of the colonies population at that time
and two distinct relations shared between them. Unlike Jefferson, Dr. King was raised by a faithful
family and a religious environment while being targeted in a discriminative and racist atmosphere,
resembling the expected stereotypical lifestyle of an African American male during the 1900s . Unlike
many other African Americans, King achieved the near impossible in getting as far as an education;
the pressure in even attending a segregated school was overwhelming for a lot of African American
individuals. Since we looked at both very distinct lifestyles, we can probably guess how and where the
motives behind Jefferson s Declaration of Independence and Dr. King s I Have A Dream came about.
Comparison and contrast wise, what are the propositions Jefferson and King have for the topic of
equality? Does Jefferson s perspective on equality contradict or corroborate with Dr. Kings ? But
when you really get down to it, do either ones perspective have similar traits to what kind of society
we are living in or is it too irrational to justify? Beginning myself, the main issue that

Preschool Teacher Observation
I chose to look into Wyoming because it s one of the states I ve wanted to move to when I become a
toddler or preschool teacher. Wyoming also boarders South Dakota, so I wondered about their
similarities and differences.
The first thing I noticed when comparing the two states ratios was the age ranges. South Dakota only
has four main categories (Infants, Toddlers, Preschool and school aged) while Wyoming broke up their
ages more. Since the South Dakota ratio was the same for an infant and a toddler you could also put
them into one category. In Wyoming, all of the age ranges had a different teacher to child ratio (as
seen above). From my own experiences, I can see both being effective. I do like that the infants and
toddlers are divided up more as there is such a difference between a six month old and a thirteen
month old.
Next, I noticed that Wyoming had a max amount of children in their ratio requirements. I feel this
would be beneficial for South Dakota. It is important for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was harder to come across than I expected it to be. There was a lots of information on teaching
requirements within a school, but not as much on the child care side of things. Through my research I
really could only find age requirements for teachers in a child care center. For South Dakota the age
requirement was 18 where as in Wyoming the age requirement was 19. Though not the same, the age
requirement is very similar compared to the ratios.
Some questions that I have after looking into licensing requirements for each state are:
1. Has South Dakota considered having a max children in their ratios?
2. What are some of the teaching requirements for teaching an a child care center, other than just age?
3. Will South Dakota ever change their in home registration requirements? Will they become licensed

Compare And Contrast Thomas Jefferson And George Washington
Chief Diplomat is defined as a leader who oversees, creates, and executes foreign relations and
policies between the United States and other countries. The two most influential Chief Diplomats the
US has ever had were George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. George Washington thrusted into the
presidency by unanimous vote of the electoral college. Throughout his presidency, George Washington
developed the country further than any president who would follow did. Washington was able to
defend the homeland and support the United State s foreign relations through his passing of the
Neutrality Proclamation, Jay s Treaty, and the Treaty of Tripoli. Many historians would argue that
Thomas Jefferson made strides in advancing the nation much further through his accomplishment of
acquiring the Louisiana Territory. Although neither president perfectly accomplished all goals they set
out to complete, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson single handedly accomplished, shaped,
and developed the nation through treaties and foreign relations far more than any other pair of
presidents during their terms as president. Both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson developed
many treaties during their terms as president, but each had one treaty that made them stand out from
other presidents to make them superior Chief Diplomats. For Thomas Jefferson this treaty is clearly
the Louisiana Purchase. The Louisiana Purchase nearly doubled the size of the United States, provided

Seventeen years is a long time, either from the Euro officially was recognized to currently United

The Theories Of The Social Contract Theory
It is apposite at this juncture to define what social contract connotes. Social contract is the voluntary
agreement among individuals by which, according to any of various theories, as of Hobbes, Locke, or
Rousseau, organized society is brought into being and invested with the right to secure mutual
protection and welfare or to regulate the relations among its members.
The social contract theory or model was originated during the age of enlightment. Social contract
arguments typically posit that individuals have consented, either explicitly or tacitly to surrender some
of their freedoms and submit to the authority of the ruler or magistrate (or to the decision of a
majority), in exchange for protection of their remaining rights.

They too did not want chaos. But a careful reasoning will bring to fore that these rights preceded the
state and therefore they were not gifts of the state. The coercive power of the state became secondary
to the reliance on individual virtue, that is, order would result from individuals pursuing their self
interests while remaining mindful of their social contract obligations. These ideas produced the great
liberal traditions that led to the sovereignty of the people and liberal democracy, a universal claim for
genuine autonomy of the individual in a democratic society.
Thomas Hobbes believed that politics should be based on the desire of power and the fear of death. He
advocated for the creation of a powerful state, what he called a Leviathan . ( A government to protect
the people from one another to keep them in awe ) In the Social Contract Hobbes said that men should
give up rights to an authority to act for them, on their behalf. He said that sovereign authority had to
be absolute to overcome fear of death in nature. With this said, it basically meant that the governments
only reason for existing was for the safety of the people. He also believed that no person was subject
to any power above them, so there was no certain power to protect any one power from

The power struggle between management and workers in the nineteenth century affected all parts of

to eradicate any workman power and maintain their own form of control. The rising industrial

mutual support of diverse trades in rule enforcement and sympathetic strikes are the three stages of
development, which express the constant struggle during the industrial life of the nineteenth century.
Knowledge and control are two qualities of controlling industrial production. The autonomous

When someone is inevitably dying and in inexplicable pain is it really a crime to grant their wishes

doctor is not giving death as an option, it is the patients choice and even where it is legal there are
many rules. Euthanasia should not be considered a crime because the patient is not being murdered;

s case, this argument does not apply to the murder of the pawnbroker and Lizaveta. This argument
fails as Raskolnikov starts to explain why he murdered the pawnbroker to Sonia, he attempted to find
some sort of explanation or show some progress because of the murder. To have the murder be
justified, someone or something would have had to be sacrificed for the good of something or
someone else but in this case Raskolnikov has not grown in any way, shape, or form as he says he has
simply killed a louse, a useless, loathsome, harmless creature. As we believed before, he has failed to
acquire any of the funds from the pawnbroker and honestly didn t know if

Executive Summary
My paper focuses on a security assessment of Quality Web Design (QWD), which is a very successful
company that is well known for its magnificent and appealing websites; they work ... Show more

Remotely utilizing these programs or software out of the company will cause QWD to be exposed to
attacks from the internet. But not only that, employees put the utilization of corporate equipment such
as desktops, laptops mobile devices (iPhones and Windows Mobile 6) in very harmful situations that
the company will pay for dearly later as time progress.
Having these equipment listed it is possible to incur outside attacks from the internet while utilizing
the company intranet resource on a remote computer that is not protected. As I ve read the different
equipment listed within the QWD company it seems that there employee laptops, mobile devices are
being used unprotected over the internet which could lead to situations such as Trojan horses and
email worms.
For example Microsoft Exchange 2007 email servers has a well known vulnerability that could allow
remote code execution, this vulnerability can allow an attacker to take control of your affected system
with Exchange Server service account privileges or the attacker could just disable your services within
Microsoft Exchange completely.
Hardware Vulnerabilities
The same can be said for the companies hardware systems listed such as their iPhones and Windows
Mobile 6, these hardware devices that employees of QWD are devices that can easily be hacked by an
outside user for example

Minimum Wage Impact
The Impact of Minimum Wage on the Economy In the 20th century, was the first time that the United
States created the minimum wage and would influence world wide economies. Since then, this
economic system has been a controversial topic all over the world between the workers and
employers. Historically, we can analyze the positive and negative effects of raising the minimum
wage. Moreover, literature researchers have also analyzed the impact of the minimum wage on the
economy on social, economic, and professional aspects. Therefore, the following literature reviews
will discuss these aspects which are fast food unionization, the grocery stores wage distribution, low
wage work in five European countries and the USA, minimum wages reduce employment
possibilities, inequality trends, the consequences of doubling the minimum wage, employment effects
of minimum and subminimum wages, certifying voluntary living wage employers, minimum wage
and Mexican and Central American influx, and collective bargaining. First, the fast food industry is
one of many factors that is impacted by the minimum wage. Matter of fact, the fast food workers
demanded that the minimum wage is raised to $15 since the average wage for workers is $8.94 and
this does not include wage theft, such as no overtime pay, not receiving proper break times, and
missing hours from the paychecks. Additionally, low wages bring down collective action among the
workers, the workers hours are never guaranteed and are sent

Advertising Connotation In Advertising
Advertising, a process that is perceived as innocuous, is in reality a powerful means that reaches into
the consumer s mind, manipulating their notions of reality. Essentially, all advertisements are sending
through subliminal messages to promote their company s products. In order to unveil these underlying
definitions, advertisement deconstruction takes place. This highlights the subtexts that are in play,
which exhibits the power of advertising. The advertisement that is the focal point for such a
deconstruction involves high class vehicle company, Lexus. The extraction of the signifiers, which all
work as a collaborative unit, reveals the denotations, connotations as well as the discourses and
ideologies that have been formed. Not only does this demonstrate the dismantling of the text; it
uncovers the raw meaning of the advertisement, unclothing what consumers fail to see with the naked
eye.
The Lexus vehicle, as shown in the advertisement above, is the overarching signifier within the text. It
is the advertiser s main objective to sell this vehicle, hence the product is the predominant focus that
grasps the attention of the consumer. The denotation reinforces that a car is on sale, as it is in the
centre of the image. In terms of the connotations, the paint covering the Lexus implies that this car
brand is dominant and reigns at a prestigious level. A silver shade is renowned in Western society for
signifying a position of social power. Even more so, the positioning

  • 2. The Social Political Ramifications Of Immigration The Social Political ramifications of Immigration in America History shows that many nations have been born due to immigration. The settlement of new colonies resulted in various cultures living within one country. According to the U.S. Bureau of Census, more than 60 million Americans have recent roots from other countries (Hirschman). Immigration may appear minor in the multitude of traits that characterize nations and their people, but there is no doubt of its mass effect. Immigration is the action of coming to live permanently in a foreign country; and its counterpart, emigration, is the act of leaving one s own country in order to settle permanently in another. Reasons for emigration are diverse. Some seek to escape a nation locked in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You need variety to be a successful and functioning society. Immigration was nothing new to America. All United States citizens can claim some immigrant experience, whether during prosperity or despair, brought by force or by choice. In the 1500 s a group of people came to America, these were the ancestors of the many Native American cultures, which would repopulate the area for thousands of years. They would also bring with them their traditions and their different cultures. Then during colonial times 50,000 convicts were transported to the colonies from English jails. Convicts weren t the only thing being dumped into the colonies, North America was a dumping ground for religious ideas (Influence of Immigration). Of the 3.9 million people counted, the English were the largest ethnic group. Nearly 20% were of African heritage. German, Scottish and Irish residents were also well represented. Pilgrims in the early 1600s, arrived in search of religious freedom. From the 17th to 19th centuries, hundreds of thousands of African slaves came to America against their will (Ryan Holeywell). Africans had impacted southern American with cooking from Africa. African music was also very influential. Another major wave of immigration occurred from around 1815 to 1865. The majority of these newcomers hailed from Northern and Western Europe. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Medea And Oedipus Comparison Essay Kayleigh Campo Survey of Dramatic Lit: Oedipus Medea Nathanael Fisher 15 September 2014 Oedipus The King Vs Medea Now as we keep our watch and wait the final day, count no man happy till he dies, free of pain at last (Sophocles 134). This particular quote encompasses the idea of Oedipus The King written by Sophocles, a play that tells the story of the new reigning king of Thebes. Through fate, Oedipus met his end by blinding himself all due to the fact that he would not let go of the past. This quote also applies to Medea by Euripides, a play about a woman named Medea, who is driven to kill her kids because of a betrayal of her husband, Jason. The main similarities between these two plays are that they are both based on Greek Mythology, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I find that there is an equal amount of similarities and differences within the text of the play. Starting with Oedipus, we see that he is a very sympathetic leader who always wants to provide a personal connection with that of his community. He is fighting so hard to remove the plague that is stricken over his city of Thebes. This specifically tells us about what type of character Oedipus is as a person and not only that but we see him portrayed as a victim of fate throughout the entire play. Main reason for that is because he was bound by the ankles as a child. Some examples that support Oedipus kind moral are as follows, But we do rate you first of men, both in the common crises of our lives and face to face encounters with the gods...We taught you nothing, no skill, no extra knowledge, still you triumphed... and Speak out, speak to us all. I grieve for these, my people, far more than I fear for my own life (Sophocles 94 96). These quotes show how respected Oedipus is within his community and that he can relate to them on a personal and spiritual level and not just governmental. Truly fate is what caused Oedipus to fall greatly but it does not lesson his character at all because he accepts punishment by blinding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Year Round Schooling Is Better Than Traditional Schooling Year Round Schools Versus Traditional Schools By: Shaun Herman Shaun Herman 4/11/2016 Task 2 Year round schooling is better than traditional schooling because, the summer retention is much higher, special education and english language learners benefit much more, end of the year test scores are higher and the year round school calendar fits our culture more now than it used to with the traditional school year. As an education major with a focus in special education, I was trying to figure out what to write and research for this paper. Starting to look at the the topics list at the bottom was the topic Year Round Schools. Looking at that and realizing, that sounded like a silly idea when I was a student, why would I not want a longer summer break. However as I am an educator myself now and realize that a one or two week break every other month sounds a like terrific idea. Then after researching the topic I learned that not only is the schedule different but they re many more benefits to year round schools than their traditional counterparts. Year round school research shows that their children have better end of the year test scores. They also show that English language learner children and Special Education children learn at a faster pace than the children at traditional schools with the same programs. Also the summer break retention rate of what the children learn throughout the year and then remember is much higher in year round ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Universe was this tiny super atom, and between 12 and 20 million years ago it exploded, creating as we know it today, the Big bang. The first time I came to New York was with my mom. We had taken a bus from Vermont to Massachusetts and then into New York. The bus ride was long and uncomfortable, but I was as bouncy and ecstatic. When I stepped out of the Port Authority Bus Terminal and on to 8th Avenue, there was only one word that could accurately describe the feeling; home. Even though I was only able to be in the city for seventeen hours, every minute felt like a lifetime. Child Soldiers And Its Effects On Children The former President of the Uganda People s Congress, Olara Otunnu, viewed the extensive use of child soldiers as compelled to become instruments of war, to kill and be killed, child soldiers are forced to give violent expression to the hatreds of adults, ( Olara Otunnu, Advocate for Children s Rights ). Otunnu elaborates how children are unable to show fear or any other emotion that defines them as human, because they are forced to follow what their capturers tell them to do. Children in armed conflicts are captured to be manipulated and brainwashed into doing inhumane actions and are used as objects rather than being children. The most well known country to adapt the idea of child soldiers is Uganda in South Africa. Child soldiers are individuals under the age of eighteen that are in armed forces and held captive as soldiers or any other useful jobs. Both boys and girls play a role in the use of child soldiers, as girls are commonly used as sex slaves, while most boys are used as soldiers. The use of child soldiers violates human rights, such as Article four, five, twelve and twenty five from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The violations of human rights demonstrate how children are used as objects rather than human beings. Children are forced to become soldiers or slaves and once captured, they have no right to defend themselves and escape. But here comes my father smirking beside me, Can you give me a kiss before you head off to school? Factors That Increase My Dairy Intake Looking at the above increase list, I decided to increase my portion of vegetables to at least 1.5 cup by including more variety of veggies to my morning breakfast smoothies and as a side of salad or steamed veggies at every meal. Vegetables are excellent sources of an array of vitamins especially brightly colored veggies and dark green veggies. By including more veggies in my diet, I am essentially helping myself up my intake of vitamins as well, since I am especially low in vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin D, vitamin E and folate, by increasing consumption of veggies from different subgroups like brightly colored veggies ( e.g. sweet potatoes, carrots and red peppers) , dark leafy greens (e.g. kale, collard and spinach) and cruciferous vegetables (e.g. broccoli, brussels sprouts and cauliflower), which are packed with vitamins like vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin E and folate. Next on my list, is to increase my dairy intake by including low fat yogurt and fortified soy milk, for example, 1 cup of Silk soy milk provides not only vitamin D, but also vitamins A and vitamin B12. This will help me increase my vitamin D intake, which I was sadly below the recommendation. Also by including more fatty fish like salmon and tuna in my diet will also help me increase my vitamin D intake. Another good source of vitamin D intake is the sun, so spending some time early in the mornings without sunscreen will also help me achieve this goal. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Lawrence Kohlberg s Levels Of Morality Running head: LAWRENCE KHOLBERG S LEVELS OF MORALITY Lawrence Kohlberg s Levels of Morality And How We Can Relate Ourselves to his Theory Sarah Blasco Tri County Technical College LAWRENCE KOHLBERG S LEVELS OF MORALITY Abstract This purpose of this is to describe Kohlberg s theory of morality in detail; I will describe each level that pertains to this theory and how they have affected me personally. Lawrence Kohlberg theory of moral development is divided into three different levels; the first level is the preconventional level followed by the conventional level, and then the postconventonal level. Within each of these levels, each level contains two different stages, resulting in six stages in all. Kohlberg s was influenced by Jean Piaget s theory, his theory focused on cognitive development, but he was motivated Piaget s theory that described how a child develops moral understanding. It encouraged Kohlberg to research deeper and develop his theory of moral development more in depth. For Kohlberg s research, he decided to use the interviewing technique using moral dilemmas. Kohlberg used several different techniques for his research strategies, but he had one famous dilemma, known as the Heinz dilemma , also defined as, pits the value of obeying the law (not stealing) against the value of human life (saving a dying person) (Berk, 2014 pg. 323). • 26. Essay on Women s Roles in Greek Society The Iliad uncovers the truth behind what Greeks believed to be the role of women in society. The Greek goddesses and the mortal women represent two sides that women had in society. The Greek goddesses held power over the war, whereas, the mortal women are there as prizes or timĂ©. Aphrodite is the prime example of a goddess who held a lot of power, mainly by using manipulation, in the Trojan War. Helen represents the quintessential idea of a woman representing timĂ©. These two portrayals of women in Greek society depict how people recognized women s role in society, with Aphrodite representing a woman with power as a manipulative goddess and Helen representing a woman who was merely timĂ©, a prize to be obtained. Aphrodite is a symbol of that view of women in Greek society; however, Aphrodite not only uses her power of manipulation against men, but also against women. Aphrodite manipulates Helen in order to serve her needs. Helen is used as an unwilling tool of Aphrodite s ambition (Allan 149). Helen is controlled from the beginning by Aphrodite, who causes Helen to fall in love with Paris. F.J. Groten discussed that Helen went with Paris because she was under the spell of Aphrodite; Helen was deprived of her judgement and surrendered herself to the charms of Paris (36). In Book III, when Paris comes back from a duel with Menelaus, Aphrodite goes to Helen to tell her to go to bed with Paris. When Helen refuses, Aphrodite threatens her exclaiming, Cease to provoke me, lest I make thee more, the world s aversion, than their love before; now the bright prize for which mankind engage, than, the sad victim, of the public rage (The Iliad 105). Helen has no choice but to comply with Aphrodite s commands because Aphrodite is telling Helen to obey or she will make all people hate her. Aphrodite needs Helen to sleep with Paris because Aphrodite must keep Paris happy to maintain her end of the deal, which was to give him Helen in love. She is also taunting Hera and Athena with her power and ability to control the situation. Aphrodite brings out the manipulative trait that men see in women during this time period. Thomas Jefferson And Martin Luther King Jr. We are all pretty familiar with Thomas Jefferson and Martin Luther King Jr., both being significant historical figures, fighting for different ideas. During the 1700s , Jefferson was growing up in a rich white environment and privileged to the extent where he is later classified as an American founding father. A very different background compared to the majority of the colonies population at that time and two distinct relations shared between them. Unlike Jefferson, Dr. King was raised by a faithful family and a religious environment while being targeted in a discriminative and racist atmosphere, resembling the expected stereotypical lifestyle of an African American male during the 1900s . Unlike many other African Americans, King achieved the near impossible in getting as far as an education; the pressure in even attending a segregated school was overwhelming for a lot of African American individuals. Since we looked at both very distinct lifestyles, we can probably guess how and where the motives behind Jefferson s Declaration of Independence and Dr. King s I Have A Dream came about. Comparison and contrast wise, what are the propositions Jefferson and King have for the topic of equality? Does Jefferson s perspective on equality contradict or corroborate with Dr. Kings ? But when you really get down to it, do either ones perspective have similar traits to what kind of society we are living in or is it too irrational to justify? Wyoming also boarders South Dakota, so I wondered about their similarities and differences. The first thing I noticed when comparing the two states ratios was the age ranges. South Dakota only has four main categories (Infants, Toddlers, Preschool and school aged) while Wyoming broke up their ages more. Since the South Dakota ratio was the same for an infant and a toddler you could also put them into one category. In Wyoming, all of the age ranges had a different teacher to child ratio (as seen above). From my own experiences, I can see both being effective. • 31. Compare And Contrast Thomas Jefferson And George Washington Chief Diplomat is defined as a leader who oversees, creates, and executes foreign relations and policies between the United States and other countries. The two most influential Chief Diplomats the US has ever had were George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. George Washington thrusted into the presidency by unanimous vote of the electoral college. Throughout his presidency, George Washington developed the country further than any president who would follow did. Washington was able to defend the homeland and support the United State s foreign relations through his passing of the Neutrality Proclamation, Jay s Treaty, and the Treaty of Tripoli. Many historians would argue that Thomas Jefferson made strides in advancing the nation much further through his accomplishment of acquiring the Louisiana Territory. Although neither president perfectly accomplished all goals they set out to complete, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson single handedly accomplished, shaped, and developed the nation through treaties and foreign relations far more than any other pair of presidents during their terms as president. Both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson developed many treaties during their terms as president, but each had one treaty that made them stand out from other presidents to make them superior Chief Diplomats. Social contract is the voluntary agreement among individuals by which, according to any of various theories, as of Hobbes, Locke, or Rousseau, organized society is brought into being and invested with the right to secure mutual protection and welfare or to regulate the relations among its members. The social contract theory or model was originated during the age of enlightment. These ideas produced the great liberal traditions that led to the sovereignty of the people and liberal democracy, a universal claim for genuine autonomy of the individual in a democratic society.
