Analysis of The First Film with Basic Sounds
1. Introduction
Hearing is believing , as the potential motto of all sound practitioners inteprets, sound has played a
great part in our daily life, so as in the world of film. The first film with basic sound showed up in the
year of 1900 in Paris. Though the technique is quite juvenile, it is indeed a breakthrough in the film
history. The first film with synchronous sound, which is actually the real sound film as we recognized,
is The light of New York published at 1928 by the Vitaphone Corporation (Griffith 1961). This can be
seen as a leap in the history of film industry. Film has become increasingly prosperous since then. In
the meantime, the sound effect of films has become more and more mature and sophisticated.
The film Se7en, first being put on screen in 1995, made a clear manifestation of the seven deadly sins
according to the Christianity, arousing audiences introspection of their sense of morality, and their
consideration of the concept of justice and the meaning of life. As a profound movie, Se7en s sound
effect is exceptional too. This paper will examine some of the sounds that the film uses, and analyze
the effect of the utilization of them. 2. Analysis of basic sound based on particular scenes
2.1 Beginning gluttony
At the beginning of the film, there is alarm for police cars and the speech sound of police officers
using intercom, creating the atmosphere of a crime scene. Then comes in the voice of two characters,
and the dialogue begins. Next, the two

The War Of Great Britain
In the United States of America as we know it, there are a ton of different countries. Inside these
countries are a ton of smaller and more compact states. Inside these states are a bunch of cities. In the
history of this country, however, there weren t always the states that we know and love. There
originally were these 13 little pieces of land that we refer to as the 13 colonies. These colonies were
once under very harsh rule and were not very equip to fight back and become separated. They were
under the rule of Great Britain. They did not have the man power to gain their independence. They
were not ready for this extremely tough challenge. However, with the army that they had, they were
ready to fight. From the beginning of the time when the British were the rulers of the Colonies, there
was always very heavy tension. The people of the British government, under the rule of King George
III, were extremely harsh rulers. They told the colonies what to do, when to do it, and how to do it.
They were not fair in any way. Beginning in 1765, leading members of the colonies were not happy
with the taxing that the British were putting them under. They felt that the British government had no
right to tax them when they had no representation in government. This unrest among the colonists had
been extremely heated and unyielding until finally they had enough. The colonists, known as patriots,
began to form riots in the streets and start major commotion among all British

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Essay
Definition
An AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysm) is defined as enlargement of at least 3 cm of the abdominal
aorta. The majority of abdominal aortic aneurysms begins below the renal arteries and ends above the
iliac arteries. The exact cause of (AAAs) is unknown. However, it is thought to be due to a
degenerative process of the abdominal aorta caused by atherosclerosis. Artherosclerosis represents a
response to vessel wall injury caused by inflammation, genetically regulated defects in collagen and
fibrillin, increased protease activity within the arterial wall, and mechanical factors (Stoelting p. 143).
Pathophysiology
The abdominal aorta consists of three distinct tissue layers including: the intima, media, and
adventicia. There is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is an increase in the concentration of proteolytic enzymes compared to their inhibitors in the
abdominal aorta as age progresses. It is also thought that metalloproteinases (MMPs) may be a factor
in the development of AAAs (Stoelting p. 143). There is an increase in expression and activity of
MMPs in people with AAAs. MMPs are present in normal aortic tissue and are responsible for vessel
remodeling. These proteinases are secreted into the extracellular matrix of AAAs by aortic smooth
muscle cells and macrophages. Increased MMP activity favors the degradation of collagen and elastin
in aneurysmal tissue (Laake).
Signs and Symptoms
Patients with ruptured AAAs present in many different ways. The most common manifestation of
rupture is back pain with a pulsatile abdominal mass and hypotension. Additional symptoms may
include syncope, flank mass, groin pain, or paralysis (Dalman and White). Unstable patients with a
suspected ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm need immediate operation and control of the proximal
aorta without preoperative confirmatory testing or optional volume resuscitation (Stoelting, p. 144).
Anesthesia Management
Surgical intervention is presently the only effective method of treating AAAs. The risk of surgical
repair is outweighed by the risk of aneurysm rupture or aneurysm related death. Patients

Compare And Contrast Shakespeare And Sonnet 130
Shakespeare s Lovely Sonnets
William Shakespeare is a famous playwright and poet whose pieces are still well known in the modern
world. Some of these well known pieces are his sonnets written about love. Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130
are examples of these love poems. These sonnets convey Shakespeare s love in different ways. Sonnet
18 expresses superiority over another subject, and Sonnet 130 expresses uniqueness. Although the
attitudes of Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130 are different, Shakespeare uses comparisons, exaggerations,
and vivid words to portray the message of love in both sonnets. First of all, Shakespeare wrote Sonnet
18 to essentially complement the poem itself and his own writing. To describe the beauty of the
recipient ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sonnet 130 is about Shakespeare s mistress. In this poem, he uses comparisons to describe his mistress
as ugly. One comparison that Shakespeare makes is, If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
In this comparison, Shakespeare relates hairs to wires to represent the coarseness of the hair of his
mistress. When read by itself, the comparison does not display love. Yet later on in the poem,
Shakespeare explains that even though her mistress may be uglier when compared to other women,
but she is rare and unique. The fact that Shakespeare considers his love as rare shows that he loves her.
Although the comparison itself in Sonnet 130 is negative while the comparison in Sonnet 18 is
positive, both poems compare one subject to another to enhance the feeling of the topic of the poem.
To continue, Sonnet 130 also has exaggerations to amplify the descriptions of Shakespeare s mistress.
For example, when Shakespeare writes, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun, he shows that his
mistress eyes are dull in comparison to eyes of other people. He makes the mistress eyes seem even
uglier as he uses the sun to represent other people s eyes. Similarly to the comparison, the
exaggeration gives his mistress a negative description. Yet, towards the end of the poem, he considers
his love to be rare, which displays his love. In a similar

Why Did Alliances Cause Ww1
The cause of World War 1 was in fact a mixture of reasons. The systems of Alliances, Imperialism and
Nationalism were all equally responsible for starting the Great War. World War 1 began in 1914 and
finished in 1918, it was a gruesome war that killed almost eight million people and left many without
limbs. The events of World war 1 were clearly far too complex to be attributed to one cause. It was a
combination of factors that were brought together to create an environment mandatory to achieve war
on a global scale. Alliances were only one of the causes responsible for World War 1 and there are
many viable reasons for that. Alliances played a very complex part in the cause of world war 1.

Nationalism is the excessive devotion to the interest or culture of their own country. During the 19th
and 20th century nationalism had spread itself all over Europe. All powerful nations such as Russia
and Germany had strong beliefs towards the concept of supporting their own nation. According to
UKEssay, when Nationalism was introduced to Europe, nations believed that their own needs must be
met before those of other nations. These strong beliefs came to play a powerful role as many
nationalists became so proud of their nations that they became unaware of how strong countries were
becoming. It also brought a lot of tensions between nations, because with powers each holding a
strong opinion of their own country, believing they were the best. Did bring a lot of enemies, which
inevitably was a cause of WW1. This is stated in an article written by J Southey and S Thompson pre
war nationalism was fuelled by wars, rivalry, newspapers, and culture. In summary, nationalism was
truly a powerful key factor in the rise of the world war, as well as Alliances and

shocking. Since 1948 there have been around 70 public inquiries into major cases of child abuse. The

spend her nights in an unheated and unlit bathroom. Very little is known about the last four months of

Culture Clash In House Of Sand And Fog By Amy Tan
The world has a variety of cultures and religions, and in this generation these different
cultures mix. It is not easy for some people to accept these different faiths and morals, however
they learn to day by day. In books such as House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III and The Joy
Luck Club by Amy Tan, the authors convey the theme of the clash of cultures. Writing books
about different cultures and the struggle of their acceptance, is crucial for modern society because
it gives the world a realistic view on what is actually happening. Perhaps the message the authors
are trying to send with the theme of culture clash, is that because of all the different cultures,
people should learn to accept the variety.

In the Joy Luck Club, all of the chinese mothers have a poor relationship with their
daughters, mostly because of the language barrier and the daughters non existing knowledge of
Chinese Culture. One can see this with Jing
mei Woo and her mother, Suyuan Woo. At the
beginning of the book, Jing
mei, or June, wants to be known as an American, not Chinese. Either it
is the fact that being Chinese embarrasses her or she does not feel Chinese because she does not
know the language, June Woo is stuck in between two of her cultures colliding. It is easy to not
feel one s nationality when no one takes the time to teach it. June s mother never really has the
desire to teach June about Chinese culture, she just expects June to know it already. June goes as
far as saying, I didn t have to do what my mother said anymore. I wasn t her slave. This wasn t
China. I had listened to her before and look what happened. She was the stupid one (141). By
making that little jab at Chinese communism, it is quite obvious June does not know much about
Chinese culture, however, she seems to compare American and Chinese culture together. Although
Suyuan Woo never educated her daughter fully about Chinese culture, June starts to understand

Persuasive Essay On Impeachment
President William J. Clinton sealed his fate when he declared under oath, I did not have sexual
relations with that woman ( Quote of the Day ). Former President Clinton was impeached shortly after
the statement was released due to Article Two, Section Four, which states, The President, Vice
President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment
for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors (Mount). The article
gives the House of Representatives the power to remove officials, who commit high crimes and
misdemeanors like Clinton. ( Article II Section 4. ) Impeachment originated from Great Britain, which
granted parliament a way to hold the king s ministers accountable for their public actions, and while
the founding fathers were in the process of writing the United States Constitution, the founders valued
impeachment, thus adding the article directly into the US Constitution, because they feared that
without impeachment the executive power would abuse its resources. ( Impeachment. ) The framers
constructed the constitution in such a way that the House of Representatives would vote to impeach
the government official, and the official in question would stand trial for the accusation in the Senate.
Then, for the accused official to be removed from office, they must be convicted by two thirds of the
Senate. (Sunstein, Article II Section 4. ) Article Two, Section Four of the United States Constitution
upholds the President and all civil offices of the United States to impeachment if the officials commit
high crimes and misdemeanors, bribery, or treason. For the first several decades of the Republic of the
United States, the House of Representatives took no interest in impeaching the president, but when the
Reconstruction Era rolled around, tension between the House of Represenatives and the president
grew to an ultimate high. President Johnson was left with big shoes to fill after the assassination of
President Lincoln, and while Lincoln held his own in the White House, Johnson took the back burner
during his presidency. When Johnson did stand up to the House of Representatives, they passed the
Tenure of Office Act,

The Empty Bowls Make-A-Thon
Bowl Making In November, I attended the Empty Bowls Make a Thon where I, along with others
from the college, made a bowl from clay. The finished bowls will be sold at a benefit dinner where
diners will pay for a meal and keep the bowl. All of the proceeds from the dinner will benefit the
Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley. Empty bowls is an international fundraiser to help fight hunger.
Artists make bowls to donate to community organizations and the bowls are sold to raise money. Not
only did I have a new experience while creating my bowl, I was also able to help someone in need.
Shapiro believes a liberal education is beneficial for an individual and for a community. Social and
cultural experiences ought to give meaning to both individual and community lives. By participating
in the Empty Bowls Make a Thon, I was able to improve both myself and my community. Liberal
education encourages improving and broadening one s experiences, which I was able to do within
Westminster College. In a way, the bowl making also relates to The Good Samaritan. In the story, a
Samaritan happens upon an injured stranger and decides to take the time and help him. While it may

It also allowed me to keep track of changes that occur daily. Lastly (and what made me care so much
about this tree was the class I took at my connunity college. It was a biology course where we
explored nature and learned different types of trees. While in this course, my teacher taught us one
very crucial concept that I never took much thought on. It was trouble involved in transferring/moving
resource to different areas and the impact it has on the local environment that loses these resources.
The example she gave was the movement of phosphorus to farmlands that causes run off. Thereby, it
is causing damn to streams and the organisms that live in them. I believe the combination of learning
about different trees and the concept not to remove anything from its local environment gave me this
feeling that this tree should not be removed. To me, this stump provided much to the local
environment, more so than the possible impact it could have had in research. Even though that might
not be the case, in my opinion it was.
I sure that there are a lot more context factors that may have led to me caring about this stumps but
they are not in clear view for me. Nevertheless, if stump removal became more of a popular thing to
do on campus, I feel my private trouble would soon turn into a public issue, especially for those in
conservation groups on campus. Oh well. I could only hope that other people notice this and that
stump removal doesn t become a big thing. In the meantime, I just have to deal with the loss stump

Symbolism Of Sleep In Macbeth
In the Bible it says, Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put a person asleep, an innocent
or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty . God speaks about the harm of killing the
innocent and the people asleep. In the play, Macbeth, by William Shakespeare uses this idea of sleep
symbolizing the innocence and when provoked will lead to the eternal sleep of honest people, the
madness upon the guilty, and the death of innocence. The protagonist, Macbeth, challenges god s
testament and does wicked actions which reel in the sleep theme. Firstly, Macbeth provokes the
symbol of sleep which is a gift of god by leading honest people into eternal sleep, death. Macbeth s
actions reflect his character as vile perpetrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macbeth hears cries that continuously haunt his life. It cries, Sleep no more to all the house; Glamis
hath murdered sleep; and therefore Cawdor shall sleep no more (II, ii, l.44). This quote interconnects
with the sleep theme because Glamis and Cawdor are both Macbeth s roles prior to being king and
that now that Macbeth has killed a person in their sleep, he shall never sleep. This idea shows the main
point of madness if you don t go to sleep you will be tired and start feeling mad and ill tempered.
Another example would be Lady Macbeth doing strange things in her sleep. Her servants say, I have
seen her rise from her bed, throw her night gown upon her...the benefit of sleep, and do the effects of
watching (V, i, l. 3 7). This shows the madness of Lady Macbeth who helped Macbeth murder King
Duncan which makes her guilty was in the bubble in her mind that she is doing everything awake but
she is doing it in her sleep. This madness is led by the guilt of killing the innocence and depriving
them of their peaceful sleep. Macbeth s power influences madness, eternal sleep and death of

Similarities Between Peace And Peace
Is it possible to be in a society with violence and peace or just peace? In a society full of negativity
and hate toward others what is a way to overcome these issues and live in harmony. Barack Obama
and Martin Luther King Jr have different opinions and we can see this through the road to peace,
uncivil and dehumanizing however, they have the same completion goal. Martin Luther King and
Obama both want peace. One of the things Martin Luther King uses is the foundation of love Martin
Luther King Jr chooses love. He believes that by not getting aggressive and wanting revenge and only
peace through love they will win. Another example, used is the churches burned and kids killed king
shows dehumanizing by him say kids have been burned, killed however, thinks people should not
slump to the same level and by peaceful protesting they can end this racism, however, Obama has a
different view he uses evidence from past event like; Evil does exist in the world. A non violent
movement could not have halted Hitler s armies. He showed that it was necessary to use violence, for
we could not have stopped Hitler by protest. The world has problems that have to make the decision
on how to approach and sometimes the issues need to be approached in a non friendly way. Also he
justifies violence by using another past event such as,Negotiations cannot convince al Qaeda s leaders
to lay down their arms. . Obama know that al Qaeda s would not sit down and talk or let protest stop

European Refugee Crisis Essay
The European refugee crisis began in 2015, when a rising number of refugees and migrants made the

leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster. According to the data that
was shown in Business Standard and also confirmed by BBC News, the top ten nations which account
for 90% of the sea arrivals in 2015 were: Syria (49%), Afghanistan (21%), Iraq (8%), Eritrea (4%),
Pakistan, Nigeria and Somalia (2 %), Sudan, Gambia and Mali (1%). Also the United Nations High

and Iraqi. Of the refugees and migrants arriving in Europe by sea in 2015, 58% were men, 17%
women and 25% children. (Wright, 2015). According to Eurostat, EU member states received over 1.2
million first time asylum applications in 2015, 4 countries (Germany, Hungary, Sweden, and Austria)
received around two thirds, while Latvia received a very small part of them.
Latvia did not have any experience receiving or integrating refugees from other parts of the world

The Exodus Research Paper
The date of the Exodus was an extremely interesting topic and has lead me to further research and

problem on deciding details of the Exodus comes not just with disagreement on dates, but also with
lack of harmony amongst several scholars about the facts of Egyptian history. To discover or get even

Eventually, a plague that takes away the firstborn of the people of Egypt who did not believe in and

of the characters are psychologically distorted and damaged in some way without respect to the fumes
of the industrial factories, Louisa provides the means of change through her own struggle and
hardship. Louisa shows the means of change through her family household, but this does not aide the
society of change of the utilitarian control and education. Charles Dickens, born on February 2, 1812,
in Portsmouth, England according to The Critical Companion to Charles Dickens, grew up in
agonizing poverty. This was in the very midst of child labor and parents would often send their
children to work by age 3 5. (Davis 3). Moreover, at 12 years old, Charles Dickens was sent to work at
a shoe polish factory and worked there for less than a year. (Davis 3). There was no room for
childhood play and laughter as he was working day in and day out for support of his family with little

Philosophy Of Rene Descartes
In modern philosophy, reality is viewed in a twofold manner: the immaterial mind on the one hand
and the extended body on the other. Also, we think of reality and divided between the I subject and an
external world of objects. This line of thinking is attributed to Rene Descartes, widely credited as the
father of modern philosophy. Descartes was a proponent of metaphysical dualism. He believed that the
mind and the body are distinct substances. To Descartes, we can reach certain knowledge about the
mind and consciousness through introspection. He reasons that we cannot doubt our existence as
thinking things because the fact that we think is undeniable. However, we tend to be fooled by our
sensory experience of the world around us, so it is possible to put the world outside of our minds into
doubt. To Descartes, philosophy is about attaining certain knowledge. We look upon the world as
knowing subjects. Descartes believed that we cannot properly philosophize without first establishing
certain principles to guide our investigation. We must doubt everything that can be doubted, and only
when we reach a position that cannot be doubted can we begin our quest to understand reality. Since
we begin with the thinking thing, the Cogito, the mind has ontological precedence over the body.
From Descartes onwards, the ultimate questions of philosophy were viewed as being epistemic in
nature. The big questions in philosophy were about the relationship of the thinking subject to the

3.0 What is a lobby?
Every hotel, regardless of its size, must have a public lobby. The size of the lobby is largely
determined by the number of guest rooms as well as by the type of hotel that is on the architect s
drawing boards. It goes without saying that the larger the hotel, the larger the lobby. The lobby will
also have to be larger in a resort or convenient hotel. A resort hotel will require a large lobby because
guests will congregate there in the evening. A hotel catering to conventions needs a large lobby
because here again there is a constant gathering of conventioneers before they go off to lectures,
seminars, meetings, luncheons, and dinners. There is no rule of thumb to determine the size of a lobby.
One must proceed by making a careful study of similar types of hotels and arrive at decisions after
discussions with hotel operators and managers. A hotel lobby sets the mood for a hotel. This space,
more than any other, will create the first and usually the most lasting impression. Furnishings, color,

Jamaican Music, Culture, And Music In Jamaican Culture
Reggae music was a big part of Jamaican culture. Many artists practiced the style of reggae and some
of the artists like Bob Marley influenced and showed people internationally all about this music. It
originated around the time that Jamaica was being attacked by European countries like Spain and
native people being taken into slavery. Bob Marley was born after the time of slave trading but whites
still effected the native people and this is how he got his inspiration for his music.
a) The music of Jamaica began five centuries ago, when Columbus colonized the land of the Arawak
Indians. This dates the start of oppression by first the Spanish and then the English in this area of the
Caribbean. Blacks were brought in as slaves by the English, and although Jamaica has had it s
independence since 1963, the tension of authority and control still reigns. Jamaica is a story of
injustice, international influence, ineffective governing, and unequal distribution of wealth; all of these
elements provide a solid base for the theme of oppression and the need for a revolution and
redemption in Jamaican music. Reggae in particular reflects these injustices, and the feelings, needs
and desires to change the lifestyle that Jamaicans have historically lived. Reggae music has two
meanings. It s generic name for all Jamaican popular music since 1960, West Indian style of music
with a strongly accented subsidiary beat. Reggae can also refer to the particular beat that was
extremely popular in

Ryan Bailey Patterson s Resistance And Resilience
In Ryan bailey Patterson s article, Resistance and Resilience Patterson discusses the impact that
politicalized art can have on a movement. Patterson articulates her argument by first giving historical
context to the violent phenomena and then explaining the impact that politicalized art had on the anti
feminicide movement in Cuidad Juarez as the art functioned as a communicator between the women
of Cuidad Juarez and the outside world. The art not only communicated the problem in the city but
helped give context to the problem and excited enough emotion in the outside party to transform the
grassroots movement into a transnational movement. Through a wide range of evidence, Patterson
supports the idea that politicalized art is an effective way to create social awareness of a social ...

origins of the anti feminicide movement. Patterson in her article gives historical context of the
conditions of women in the Cuidad Jaurez and talks about the effects of the Maquiladora Program
which replaced the Bracero program in 1965. Patterson claims that , Cuidad Juarez became a hunting
ground for innocent female victims with the establishment of the Maquiladora Program. Patterson
backs this claim by providing evidence of how the program led to a job crisis which led to the creation
of the National boarder Development Program which allowed foreign corporations to outsource their
production to mexico where the labor was cheaper and the finished exports had little to no tariffs. This
program forced to women to look for any available jobs.

How Did Galileo Galilei Support The Heliocentric
The Catholic Church was extremely powerful and influential in their communities which supported
the theory of a geocentric, or Earth centered, universe. During Galileo s time, people believed that the
Earth was the center of the universe and the Sun and planets revolved around it. Galileo Galilei s
discovery of the heliocentric theory strengthened Galileo s belief in Copernicus theory that Earth and
all the other planets revolved around the Sun. Once Galileo presented the heliocentric theory, the
Catholic Church believed Galileo could not be a devoted Catholic and a scientist at once. The Church
was infuriated with Galileo s book about the discovery so they decided to set a trial against Galileo.
Galileo was justified in publishing Two Chief World Systems, a dialogue, against the dictate of the
church because it created an evolution of free ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With his invention, Galileo was able to discover mountains and other terrestrial features on the moon,
spots on the sun (itself apparently rotating), four moons circling Jupiter, and periodic phases in the
illumination of Venus (The Galileo Affair 1). Galileo created an environment to expand on knowledge
by providing evidence of the heliocentric universe. During Galileo s time, people would depend on the
long tradition in the Church of turning to the Bible for knowledge of the most general features of the
natural world such as where the earth lines in the universe (The Church s Ban on Copernicanism 183).
Eventually, the natural philosophers regarded the unproven Copernican theory as no longer useful.
Knowledge was a major contribution to Galileo s theory due to finding of the Earth not in the center of
the universe. Galileo was able to expand the knowledge beyond the limits of personal experience with
his expansion of observations with the

Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings
Humanity s inherent desire for results and rewards belittles the process of a journey,
undervaluing/deprecating the character development that comes within, which notably can be
portrayed in Margaret Atwood s Happy Endings . In her metafictional short story, Atwood includes six
different scenarios that are labeled A to F, which briefly describes the characters lives, ultimately
ending with death. Moreover, the names of characters recur in each scenario, referencing one another
throughout the entire short story. Particularly when Atwood s short story Happy Endings was
published, people noticed that she was questioning gender roles and Canada s progress towards
equality (Seaman). In recent times, critics see her short story attacking ... Show more content on

Unfortunately, in this case, the Bible oppresses women by limiting them to remain in their household.
Hence, Atwood is stunned that the Bible even enforces such a discriminatory idea; she refers this
imposition as evil , evidently indicating that she defies the Bible s principles as well as illustrating
herself as a feminist. With the establishment of an Equality Clause , Atwood s role as a civil activist
influenced her to write Happy Endings to further criticize the arbitrary roles and norm that negatively
impacted women. Almost a year prior to the publication of Atwood s short story, an Equality Clause
was included in the Constitution of Canada , guaranteeing men, women and the disabled equal rights.
In a 1994 Booklist review, Donna Seaman, the adult editor of Booklist, mentions that Atwood
continues to question the roots of [society s] assumptions about gender roles, testing ...[Canada s]
shaky sense of progress toward equality ( Good Bones and Simple Murders ). Doubtlessly, Atwood s
short story displays how women easily fall prey to sexism. As of recently, Rena Korb, an American
feminist, points out that Atwood criticizes societal conventions, particularly those surrounding the
roles of women (2). For instance, in Version B, Mary suffers from a one sided relationship with John

If you are like millions around the world, you may be frustrated with the state of the education system.
A system which leaves us in debt, grants degrees that do not guarantee jobs or happiness, earns us
only ordinary jobs that are not fulfilling; jobs where we survive instead of thrive. When I went to high
school, I spent a large amount of time studying subjects such as geography, math, history, and etc. kids

Think about the times we are concern about our weight and we wished we had been taught to exercise
and eat well, or times we are down and we wished to learn meditate to better control our emotions.
These are the real world problems that can really hold us back in life, and directly influence our
happiness and I thinks it is about the time to make these skills more accessible to everyone. The point
is, if someone wants to get good at math, then he studies math, or if he wants to get good at science,
he studies science and the same thing applies here. If you want to get good at relationships, you study
relationships, or if you want to get successful, then you need to study success. School is definitely
necessary, but it is not complete. Imagine an education that included the best of the current system, but
at the same time, teaches you how to have healthier relationships, be better lovers, a better parent, live
healthier, and not just live a successful life, but a deeply meaningful and fulfilled life.
Given these points, the big gap in our educational system today is the gap between what skills people
truly need to learn to live extraordinary lives and the amount of exposure they actually get to those
skills. There is a way to fill this gap. Science has proven that our minds have inevitable power to
shape our lives and our happiness. Whether it is intentionally or unwanted, our thoughts are actually

Essay about Cultural History of Alcohol
Alcohol has been the lifeblood of civilization dating thousands of years back in time, and it is clear to
see the culture impact it has made throughout history. People perceive alcohol in many different ways;
depending on gender, age, religious background, or social upbringing. Throughout history alcohol has
affected different cultures and various demographics. It has been a source of pleasure and aesthetic in
many cultures, along with being one of the oldest rites of passage, especially in modern day American
society. Alcohol and drinking were also an integral part of religious observances throughout history
and culture. The use of alcohol can be seen as a social lubricant, and besides being a thirst quencher, it

In American culture especially, drinking is seen as a rite of passage or assimilation into adulthood.
Young people in many cultures are introduced to drinking early in life, as a normal part of daily living.
Whereas in America, drinking at a young age is looked down upon, the reverse is true in societies that
maintain the best moderate drinking practices. The idea of a minimum as before someone should be
protected from alcohol is alien in China and France. Children learn to drink early in Zambia by taking
small quantities when they are sent to buy beer; children in France, Italy, and Spain are routinely given
wine as part of a meal or celebration. In the United States, the legal age to drink varies dramatically
form others around the world but is still look upon as a step into adulthood. Though attitudes and
behaviors vary in different places, drinking can be seen as a routine way of assimilating a youth into
their respective culture s social customs.
The relationship between alcoholic beverages and religion goes back thousands of years. The use of
wine is at the heart of many Christian Religions and important Jewish ceremonies are marked by
drinking a prescribe number of glasses. The Ancient Egyptians believe the much worship god Osiris.
The ancient Egyptians made at least 17 types of beer and even more varieties of wine used for
pleasure, nutrition, medicine, ritual and funerary purposes. In Babylon, the people worships wine

She Wept, She Railed
She Wept, She Railed by Stanley Kunitz is a poem that focuses on woman and violence. Kunitz details
the way women are treated by men in the 1st and 2nd stanza and then provides examples of powerful
women in history where violence was a major component of their life. The last stanza describes a
sexual experience with one of his past partners. The 1st stanza Kunitz discusses the cruelty that men
bestow upon women and the reaction of women. The woman that is weeping and railing is being

Persuasive Speech On Horse Racing
So many of you may be wandering two things one what is this about, and two why so
Late. Well my reason is to give tips to the new players who have just joined the game or are kinda of

Sadly to all our very new players that this works. Now a lot of older players who have played the

We shall start with races ( i will put a example because if i did all the breeds it would take way to

  • 2. Analysis of The First Film with Basic Sounds 1. Introduction Hearing is believing , as the potential motto of all sound practitioners inteprets, sound has played a great part in our daily life, so as in the world of film. The first film with basic sound showed up in the year of 1900 in Paris. Though the technique is quite juvenile, it is indeed a breakthrough in the film history. The first film with synchronous sound, which is actually the real sound film as we recognized, is The light of New York published at 1928 by the Vitaphone Corporation (Griffith 1961). This can be seen as a leap in the history of film industry. Film has become increasingly prosperous since then. In the meantime, the sound effect of films has become more and more mature and sophisticated. The film Se7en, first being put on screen in 1995, made a clear manifestation of the seven deadly sins according to the Christianity, arousing audiences introspection of their sense of morality, and their consideration of the concept of justice and the meaning of life. As a profound movie, Se7en s sound effect is exceptional too. This paper will examine some of the sounds that the film uses, and analyze the effect of the utilization of them. 2. Analysis of basic sound based on particular scenes 2.1 Beginning gluttony At the beginning of the film, there is alarm for police cars and the speech sound of police officers using intercom, creating the atmosphere of a crime scene. Then comes in the voice of two characters, and the dialogue begins. Next, the two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Inside these states are a bunch of cities. In the history of this country, however, there weren t always the states that we know and love. There originally were these 13 little pieces of land that we refer to as the 13 colonies. These colonies were once under very harsh rule and were not very equip to fight back and become separated. They were under the rule of Great Britain. They did not have the man power to gain their independence. They were not ready for this extremely tough challenge. However, with the army that they had, they were ready to fight. From the beginning of the time when the British were the rulers of the Colonies, there was always very heavy tension. The people of the British government, under the rule of King George III, were extremely harsh rulers. They told the colonies what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. They were not fair in any way. Beginning in 1765, leading members of the colonies were not happy with the taxing that the British were putting them under. They felt that the British government had no right to tax them when they had no representation in government. This unrest among the colonists had been extremely heated and unyielding until finally they had enough. • 4. Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Essay Definition An AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysm) is defined as enlargement of at least 3 cm of the abdominal aorta. The majority of abdominal aortic aneurysms begins below the renal arteries and ends above the iliac arteries. The exact cause of (AAAs) is unknown. However, it is thought to be due to a degenerative process of the abdominal aorta caused by atherosclerosis. Artherosclerosis represents a response to vessel wall injury caused by inflammation, genetically regulated defects in collagen and fibrillin, increased protease activity within the arterial wall, and mechanical factors (Stoelting p. 143). Pathophysiology The abdominal aorta consists of three distinct tissue layers including: the intima, media, and adventicia. There is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is an increase in the concentration of proteolytic enzymes compared to their inhibitors in the abdominal aorta as age progresses. It is also thought that metalloproteinases (MMPs) may be a factor in the development of AAAs (Stoelting p. 143). There is an increase in expression and activity of MMPs in people with AAAs. MMPs are present in normal aortic tissue and are responsible for vessel remodeling. These proteinases are secreted into the extracellular matrix of AAAs by aortic smooth muscle cells and macrophages. Increased MMP activity favors the degradation of collagen and elastin in aneurysmal tissue (Laake). Signs and Symptoms Patients with ruptured AAAs present in many different ways. The most common manifestation of rupture is back pain with a pulsatile abdominal mass and hypotension. Additional symptoms may include syncope, flank mass, groin pain, or paralysis (Dalman and White). Unstable patients with a suspected ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm need immediate operation and control of the proximal aorta without preoperative confirmatory testing or optional volume resuscitation (Stoelting, p. 144). Anesthesia Management Surgical intervention is presently the only effective method of treating AAAs. The risk of surgical repair is outweighed by the risk of aneurysm rupture or aneurysm related death. Patients ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Compare And Contrast Shakespeare And Sonnet 130 Shakespeare s Lovely Sonnets William Shakespeare is a famous playwright and poet whose pieces are still well known in the modern world. Some of these well known pieces are his sonnets written about love. Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130 are examples of these love poems. These sonnets convey Shakespeare s love in different ways. Sonnet 18 expresses superiority over another subject, and Sonnet 130 expresses uniqueness. Although the attitudes of Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130 are different, Shakespeare uses comparisons, exaggerations, and vivid words to portray the message of love in both sonnets. First of all, Shakespeare wrote Sonnet 18 to essentially complement the poem itself and his own writing. To describe the beauty of the recipient ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sonnet 130 is about Shakespeare s mistress. In this poem, he uses comparisons to describe his mistress as ugly. One comparison that Shakespeare makes is, If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head. In this comparison, Shakespeare relates hairs to wires to represent the coarseness of the hair of his mistress. When read by itself, the comparison does not display love. Yet later on in the poem, Shakespeare explains that even though her mistress may be uglier when compared to other women, but she is rare and unique. The fact that Shakespeare considers his love as rare shows that he loves her. Although the comparison itself in Sonnet 130 is negative while the comparison in Sonnet 18 is positive, both poems compare one subject to another to enhance the feeling of the topic of the poem. To continue, Sonnet 130 also has exaggerations to amplify the descriptions of Shakespeare s mistress. For example, when Shakespeare writes, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun, he shows that his mistress eyes are dull in comparison to eyes of other people. He makes the mistress eyes seem even uglier as he uses the sun to represent other people s eyes. Similarly to the comparison, the exaggeration gives his mistress a negative description. Yet, towards the end of the poem, he considers his love to be rare, which displays his love. In a similar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Why Did Alliances Cause Ww1 The cause of World War 1 was in fact a mixture of reasons. The systems of Alliances, Imperialism and Nationalism were all equally responsible for starting the Great War. World War 1 began in 1914 and finished in 1918, it was a gruesome war that killed almost eight million people and left many without limbs. The events of World war 1 were clearly far too complex to be attributed to one cause. It was a combination of factors that were brought together to create an environment mandatory to achieve war on a global scale. Alliances were only one of the causes responsible for World War 1 and there are many viable reasons for that. Alliances played a very complex part in the cause of world war 1. • 9. Culture Clash In House Of Sand And Fog By Amy Tan The world has a variety of cultures and religions, and in this generation these different cultures mix. It is not easy for some people to accept these different faiths and morals, however they learn to day by day. In books such as House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III and The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan, the authors convey the theme of the clash of cultures. Writing books about different cultures and the struggle of their acceptance, is crucial for modern society because it gives the world a realistic view on what is actually happening. Perhaps the message the authors are trying to send with the theme of culture clash, is that because of all the different cultures, people should learn to accept the variety. Either it is the fact that being Chinese embarrasses her or she does not feel Chinese because she does not know the language, June Woo is stuck in between two of her cultures colliding. • 11. Persuasive Essay On Impeachment President William J. Clinton sealed his fate when he declared under oath, I did not have sexual relations with that woman ( Quote of the Day ). Former President Clinton was impeached shortly after the statement was released due to Article Two, Section Four, which states, The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors (Mount). The article gives the House of Representatives the power to remove officials, who commit high crimes and misdemeanors like Clinton. ( Article II Section 4. ) Impeachment originated from Great Britain, which granted parliament a way to hold the king s ministers accountable for their public actions, and while the founding fathers were in the process of writing the United States Constitution, the founders valued impeachment, thus adding the article directly into the US Constitution, because they feared that without impeachment the executive power would abuse its resources. ( Impeachment. ) The framers constructed the constitution in such a way that the House of Representatives would vote to impeach the government official, and the official in question would stand trial for the accusation in the Senate. Then, for the accused official to be removed from office, they must be convicted by two thirds of the Senate. (Sunstein, Article II Section 4. ) Article Two, Section Four of the United States Constitution upholds the President and all civil offices of the United States to impeachment if the officials commit high crimes and misdemeanors, bribery, or treason. For the first several decades of the Republic of the United States, the House of Representatives took no interest in impeaching the president, but when the Reconstruction Era rolled around, tension between the House of Represenatives and the president grew to an ultimate high. President Johnson was left with big shoes to fill after the assassination of President Lincoln, and while Lincoln held his own in the White House, Johnson took the back burner during his presidency. It was trouble involved in transferring/moving resource to different areas and the impact it has on the local environment that loses these resources. The example she gave was the movement of phosphorus to farmlands that causes run off. Thereby, it is causing damn to streams and the organisms that live in them. • 14. Symbolism Of Sleep In Macbeth In the Bible it says, Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put a person asleep, an innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty . God speaks about the harm of killing the innocent and the people asleep. In the play, Macbeth, by William Shakespeare uses this idea of sleep symbolizing the innocence and when provoked will lead to the eternal sleep of honest people, the madness upon the guilty, and the death of innocence. The protagonist, Macbeth, challenges god s testament and does wicked actions which reel in the sleep theme. Firstly, Macbeth provokes the symbol of sleep which is a gift of god by leading honest people into eternal sleep, death. Macbeth s actions reflect his character as vile perpetrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Macbeth hears cries that continuously haunt his life. It cries, Sleep no more to all the house; Glamis hath murdered sleep; and therefore Cawdor shall sleep no more (II, ii, l.44). This quote interconnects with the sleep theme because Glamis and Cawdor are both Macbeth s roles prior to being king and that now that Macbeth has killed a person in their sleep, he shall never sleep. This idea shows the main point of madness if you don t go to sleep you will be tired and start feeling mad and ill tempered. Another example would be Lady Macbeth doing strange things in her sleep. Her servants say, I have seen her rise from her bed, throw her night gown upon her...the benefit of sleep, and do the effects of watching (V, i, l. 3 7). This shows the madness of Lady Macbeth who helped Macbeth murder King Duncan which makes her guilty was in the bubble in her mind that she is doing everything awake but she is doing it in her sleep. This madness is led by the guilt of killing the innocence and depriving them of their peaceful sleep. Macbeth s power influences madness, eternal sleep and death of ... In a society full of negativity and hate toward others what is a way to overcome these issues and live in harmony. Barack Obama and Martin Luther King Jr have different opinions and we can see this through the road to peace, uncivil and dehumanizing however, they have the same completion goal. Martin Luther King and Obama both want peace. One of the things Martin Luther King uses is the foundation of love Martin Luther King Jr chooses love. He believes that by not getting aggressive and wanting revenge and only peace through love they will win. Another example, used is the churches burned and kids killed king shows dehumanizing by him say kids have been burned, killed however, thinks people should not slump to the same level and by peaceful protesting they can end this racism, however, Obama has a different view he uses evidence from past event like; Evil does exist in the world. A non violent movement could not have halted Hitler s armies. He showed that it was necessary to use violence, for we could not have stopped Hitler by protest. The world has problems that have to make the decision on how to approach and sometimes the issues need to be approached in a non friendly way. • 25. Philosophy Of Rene Descartes In modern philosophy, reality is viewed in a twofold manner: the immaterial mind on the one hand and the extended body on the other. Also, we think of reality and divided between the I subject and an external world of objects. This line of thinking is attributed to Rene Descartes, widely credited as the father of modern philosophy. Descartes was a proponent of metaphysical dualism. He believed that the mind and the body are distinct substances. To Descartes, we can reach certain knowledge about the mind and consciousness through introspection. He reasons that we cannot doubt our existence as thinking things because the fact that we think is undeniable. However, we tend to be fooled by our sensory experience of the world around us, so it is possible to put the world outside of our minds into doubt. To Descartes, philosophy is about attaining certain knowledge. We look upon the world as knowing subjects. Descartes believed that we cannot properly philosophize without first establishing certain principles to guide our investigation. We must doubt everything that can be doubted, and only when we reach a position that cannot be doubted can we begin our quest to understand reality. Since we begin with the thinking thing, the Cogito, the mind has ontological precedence over the body. From Descartes onwards, the ultimate questions of philosophy were viewed as being epistemic in nature. The big questions in philosophy were about the relationship of the thinking subject to the ... Every hotel, regardless of its size, must have a public lobby. The size of the lobby is largely determined by the number of guest rooms as well as by the type of hotel that is on the architect s drawing boards. It goes without saying that the larger the hotel, the larger the lobby. The lobby will also have to be larger in a resort or convenient hotel. A resort hotel will require a large lobby because guests will congregate there in the evening. A hotel catering to conventions needs a large lobby because here again there is a constant gathering of conventioneers before they go off to lectures, seminars, meetings, luncheons, and dinners. There is no rule of thumb to determine the size of a lobby. One must proceed by making a careful study of similar types of hotels and arrive at decisions after discussions with hotel operators and managers. A hotel lobby sets the mood for a hotel. Many artists practiced the style of reggae and some of the artists like Bob Marley influenced and showed people internationally all about this music. It originated around the time that Jamaica was being attacked by European countries like Spain and native people being taken into slavery. Bob Marley was born after the time of slave trading but whites still effected the native people and this is how he got his inspiration for his music. a) The music of Jamaica began five centuries ago, when Columbus colonized the land of the Arawak Indians. This dates the start of oppression by first the Spanish and then the English in this area of the Caribbean. Blacks were brought in as slaves by the English, and although Jamaica has had it s independence since 1963, the tension of authority and control still reigns. Jamaica is a story of injustice, international influence, ineffective governing, and unequal distribution of wealth; all of these elements provide a solid base for the theme of oppression and the need for a revolution and redemption in Jamaican music. Reggae in particular reflects these injustices, and the feelings, needs and desires to change the lifestyle that Jamaicans have historically lived. Reggae music has two meanings.
