Memory Failure During Pregnancy
A study published in Nature Neuroscience stated that, with pregnancy, the areas of the woman s
cerebral cortex wither. That is, the mother s brain shrinks.
It seems the news is negative, but there is no reason to worry. In fact, this is a good sign.
A smaller brain can be more efficient and specialized. By shrinking, post pregnancybrains are
perfectly sculpted to respond better to babies. Now the news is good, is not it?
The regions that diminish most part of the frontal and temporal cortex, as well as the median line
are related to empathy. Selective shrinkage indicates that these regions have become more
specialized, increasing the efficiency of the mother to care for the baby.
It is as if the brain has matured into the new stage of life. The most altered brain regions are the
same ones that activate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in analyzing 25 first time mothers, Hoekzema found no memory related changes in pre
pregnancy until the postpartum months. But the research did not test women during pregnancy.
According to Liisa Galea, a neurologist at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver,
Canada, there are signs of memory failure during pregnancy and immediately after birth in both
people and animals. Factors may vary depending on the trimester of pregnancy and the gender of
the fetus.
But there is no reason for despair. Galea points out that after the initial period, motherhood can
actually make the brain stronger.
Pregnancy and motherhood are dramatic events that change lives and have lasting repercussions on
the brain, but the repercussions can be good

Iago As A Domestic Tragedy In Shakespeare s Othello
Explore the significance of this extract in relation to the tragedy of the play as a whole. Remember
to include in your answer relevant analysis of Shakespeare s dramatic methods. [
Othello being a domestic tragedy is still considered to be as great as Shakespeare s other plays such
as Macbeth King Lear and Hamlet. Othello s hamartia is his natural inclination to loyalty and blind
trust which makes him easily manipulated and brings him to his dreadful end.
The conversation between Rodrigo, a man with a strong lust for Desdemona, and Iago shows
Iago s cold hearted and twisted character and the weakness of lust that Rodrigo has for
Desdomona . His intentions and where his true loyalty lies hold no value to him. He is instantly
a threat when he tells Rodrigo I am not what I am (pg 6, line 67). This means with Iago what you
see is clearly not what you get could show that Iago is a villain in the play. Although he claims
his hatred for Othello is because he did not get his well deserved position as a lieutenant or
because he claims that he had slept with his wife Amelia; Iago seems to just love to plot evil
schemes for the sake of coursing mayhem and chaos for no apparent reason. As Samuel Taylor
Coleridge said Iago seems to engage in The motive hunting of motiveless Malignity . This means
that Iago basically just purely loves to do evil and is always looking for a reason to plant sins and
help them grow; Iago is pretty much the devil. Iago s claim of being

Teaching Assistant Report
The fascination and interest in text can be kept up with daily reading sessions. This will spark
their interest in decoding words. The teaching assistant will help with these skills including
reminding the child or their alphabet and phonic sounds to assist with decoding. Modelling is a
key supporting method for learning literacy both with speaking and writing words. In reading to
children, the teaching assistant will be showing them how to read fluently and how their voice can
help make sense of the text being read. Hearing modelled reading can lead to an increased interest
in reading, an improvement in vocabulary and more knowledge of the world around them. It is
important for children to read regularly, if not daily. This may be within the school... Show more

Differentiation can be guided by a teaching assistant. The teacher will plan guided reading sessions
where the children are divided into their appropriate reading abilities. During the week, each group
will rotate with the teacher ensuring that the teacher is able to help improve their fluency and
investigation through reading instruction at their own reading levels. In turn, the teaching assistant
will give reading instruction to a separate group who will be working towards questioning the text
they are reading through comprehension. During these sessions, there will be emphasis on
speaking and listening together, and reading and writing together. These sessions also allow
additional groups to work independently, reading at their own specific level. The roles of the
teacher and teaching assistant in this area are interchangeable and dependent on the
teacher’s planning. There are other strategies that assist in this area including repetition and

How Do Diaspora Media Help Construct Meanings of Community...
As a result of the western colonizing movement of the 19th century, a massive diasporic movement
of people across boundaries formed a unique group. This ongoing process of population movement
and mass exodus, as well as the effects it caused drew attention to the academic world at both
cultural and political levels. However, unlike the original residents, this diasporic shift demonstrated
distinctive traits such as identity and an ideology which evidently differed from those of the
natives. As Sreberny (2000. P179) argued: Diaspora has become a key term in theorizing about
immigration, ethnicity and identity and exerted a considerable influence historically, culturally,
socially and economically on developed capitalist societies.... Show more content on

Diaspora media, especially electronic media, with its facility of connection between locations,
has successfully managed to improve the quality and speed of communication, as well as to
shape its identity in local, national and transnational levels within a modern social context. Direct
audio and visual experience allows audiences to get together and exchange opinions over a
variety of topics such as languages, fashion, lifestyle, political viewpoints. This daily regular
activity of sharing the same media has made people subconsciously advance the sense of
belonging in a common unity (Anderson, 1983). From our living experiences, it is not hard to
find out that there are so many resources of information to choose from, which means our world
has been filled with media, and the diasporic space is no exception. Through all these media,
people encode and decode information, accept and reject ideas, and (re)define (new) meanings of
culture, community and identity. Electronic media shorten the distance between locations and
helped dispersed people to share the culture of the same root, allow comparison, (re)construction of
symbols, present and mediate meanings of Diasporas, localities, communities and identities.
Therefore, in media cultures social interaction and relations are no longer dependent on
simultaneous spatial co presence (Lull, 2000. P97). Instead, they use symbols and direct visuality
to carry the latter day communal memories and offer new schedules for

Returning to School Essay
Wanting to return to school has been a dream for a long time. I am starting out a little late, at 45
years old, but I have finally found my passion, working in education. Since the age of thirteen, I
have been working multiple jobs day and night, only to still be below the poverty line; stuck in
survival mode for so long now that I need to have a permanent positive change that will help me
accomplish more than I ever have. The reason for me going back to school is to get certified so I
may become a teacher. Our low income was the culprit on pushing me to get started. I have been
struggling for so long that now it is time for me to make a real difference in my life and those
around me, hopefully resulting in an increase in my... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While doing everything, I have been the only income, and support for my family, working three
jobs, and volunteering for the PHS Band Boosters. Stress is high at home, and I just do not feel
welcome. Our power was turned off, the phone and internet have already been disconnected, the
house is a mess, the cars are breaking down, and we have no clothes, or shoes that are decent,
and no money to buy any. I cannot afford to have the trash hauled off, so we live with piles of
garbage outside and inside. I am two months behind on the rent, and we live out of the local food
banks for our food. I m so embarrassed of how we live that I won t let anyone come over to visit.
I hear the kids and my husband saying that they blame me for how we live. It s my fault that I
am not home to keep things clean, or help with their homework, or that I am not bringing in
enough money to pay the bills. I have to fight each day just to prove myself, to those closest to
me. At this time the best that I can do, is to talk with one of the counselors at school, to see if
they may be able to help us out as a family. Working with so many different types of people
throughout the years, has taught me that there is a way if it is important enough to you. Giving up
is not an option In order for this to work a serious change at home will need to take place, getting
everyone back on track, and setting their priorities straight. I will need

A Short Note On Alcohol, Tobacco, Marijuana, And Opioids
Julie Thao
HSCD 300 01
Essay 1
February 7th, 2016
1. The four most commonly used substances as described from the course textbook are alcohol,
tobacco, marijuana, and opioids. Alcohol is a translucent liquid in appearance and has a bitter
acquired taste which suppresses brain activity. The intake of alcohol effects the cerebral cortex by
ceasing the inhibition of user and develops a relaxed and more social characteristic in the way the
user interacts with others. As a depressant, the use of alcohol with its relaxing effect causes
impairment in cognition and ability to make effective decisions. Another effect caused by the
intake of alcohol are increased sex drive prior to the frontal lobe of the brain being under the
influence of chemicals and damage to the major brain neurotransmitters, which can lead to
impairment of new memories. The effects that alcohol are accountable for on the body are on the
cardiovascular system and massive amounts of alcohol use leading to intoxication can cause severe
damage to the liver including the nervous system resulting in death (Stevens, P., Smith, R. L., 2013).
Nicotine can be found in tobacco products an example is in cigarettes. It serves as a minor
stimulant as well as a sedative to the central nervous system. The effect nicotine gives off is known
as a kick which is caused by a discharge of epinephrine from the adrenal cortex, that stimulates the
central nervous system and endocrine glands to establish an immediate release

The Effects Of The Malthusian Catastrophe Throughout The...
After Adam Smith s Wealth of Nations, his view of classical economics flourished. One of his
successors Thomas Malthus continued with a more pessimist view of society, while still keeping to
Smith s fundamentals. Out of this pessimistic viewpoint comes the Malthusian Doctrine, which
states that as the populationrate grows greater than the rate of produce to feed it, and, if unchecked,
the world s population will double every 25 years. At the same time land cannot keep up with the
population growth, because land cannot breed. This will lead to a population growth problem. This
paper will explore the effects of the Malthusian catastrophethroughout the past few centuries.
Reviewing the implications of population growth and the need for implementations to limit
population growth and natural resource depletion, providing questions challenging this point of
view, and interacting with arguments of opposition can provide a well formed argument for the
implementations of new policies regarding this topic.
In 18th century Europe was ripe from the Industrial Revolution. The world was taking on a more
optimistic thinking. However, Thomas Malthus turned against this notion with a pessimist view of
population growth. The reproduction of humans and the depletion of food were evident and are still
evident today. The world is becoming more populous and with it more prosperous; humans as a
whole are consuming more food, water, and natural resources than ever. In Malthus time the same

Comparison Of G Block And H Block Sat A Piece Of...
Between G Block and H Block sat a piece of corrugated iron tubing. Soggy leaves and bark were
smeared along the outside of it. Inside was dry earth and cold silver. That was where we went,
Del and I. I thought it looked like the poor man s version of a piece of playground equipment.
From a playground from not too far away, on the other side of the river bank away, closer to the
worst kind of civilisation. A human hamster wheel that was what it was called. When a person
lies inside and there s light at either ends of the tunnel and you have to peddle fast with your
hands and feet, all the way round in a cylindrical loop. Not so easy to stop. Not suitable for
children under four that s what the sign would say, even when it was smeared with a streak of
blue from a can of spray paint. The four year olds would go in and fall out and break an arm over
the course of an afternoon play session. A council inspector in a striped high visibility vest
would arrive to look over the equipment. Then they would walk past us and look up at the
abandoned buildings of Briar Hills High School and shake their head at the eyesore. They would
probably write some notes too. One of us would go outside just to burst a tyre on their car. The
council always parked in the same place marked with a faded yellow line. It was right in front of
the barrier which looked like a brittle and old fence to them but to us it meant we could hide and
forget. When they parked near the barrier it was too close.

Cities Will Be The Future Of Residential Housing
Introduction.
In an urbanising world, the way people fit into cities is of great importance.
High Density is said to be the future of residential housing, although not everyone agrees to this way
of thinking.
High Density is viewed as a key strategy to manage urban growth and is becoming an increasing
feature of city plans; our very own city is an example of this.
High Density housing is defined as housing with a higher population density than the average,
typically blocks of flats and tower blocks. Density is measured in two different perspectives;
physical density related to the density of people in built density, referring to a numeric or
quantitative measure. The other is through perceived density, which is in relation to the
environment and to other participants.
In 2011, 20.7% of dwellings in Sydney were classified as high density. Australian cities are facing a
number of challenges, including a significant growth in population, growing housing affordability
crisis, a greater concern for environmental issues, transport and urban infrastructure.
It is estimated that in the near future, 2 out of 2 people will live in cities. This is due to main
reason that people naturally tend to concentrate in areas with desirable conditions. What does the
cities offer as to why it is stated that the cities will be our future .
Our cities offer close proximity to services, entertainment and employment. Building high density
housing within reach of the main sectors of the hub

The Legitimacy And Global Governance
The legitimacy and importance of institutions in global governance is a highly contested topic,
among which many question the existence of international institutions. To suggest that institutions
in global governance do not matter, is to suggest that the majority of countries have the willingness
to co operate, the ability to solve disputes and to organise themselves to ensure problems are dealt
with effectively without the pressure of an outside body which has been proven to be ineffective .
This essay will examine how institutions matter and are important in global governance, through

These are important because in the international realm, there is always insecurity and a lack of
trust between states; they can never be certain that there are no threats from other states and
therefore there is always the risk that a war may commence. This is particularly a problem as
pluralism exists among states, therefore there are different views and aims, which inevitably cause
disagreements. There is essentially an anarchic condition, where there is no global government to
enforce punishment or control disputes and in turn there is a constant security dilemma .
Institutions, such as the UN, create a forum where different states issues can be discussed and the
institution can act as a mediator to create an appropriate response and plan, in order to deal with
the issues. A prime example of how where institutions this and may have been beneficial is World
War One and World War Two, of which the United Nationsarose. This shows that states were aware
of the dangers and risks of war that an anarchic system had, and wanted an international institution
to help prevent problems such as these occurring again . Not to suggest that global institutions
create world peace, but they can put pressure on certain states, help solve arguments and controls
disputes, to decrease the chances of escalation of war. Had

Suicide And Suicide
While awareness of suicide and its rippling effect on the community is increasing, much of the
research into the psychological impact of those exposed to death by suicide has been focused on
adults.
Which is why top academic and suicide postvention expert, Karl Andriessen has focused his PhD
project at the University of New South Wales, on investigating the grief, mental health and help
seeking experiences of adolescents who have lost a loved one through suicide.
The study, supported by the Anika Foundation for Adolescent Depression and Suicide, identifies the
adolescents experiences, which may be specific for this age group, to determine whether they
require specific attention from caregivers or health professionals.
It is well known that exposure to suicide and bereavement after suicide is a risk factor for adverse
outcomes related to health, mental health and social functioning, says Mr Andriessen.
We started this research project because most of the research has been focused on the adult
population, not on the younger age groups.
Hence, little is known about their grief and mental experiences, and their needs for support.
The study aims to redress that gap in our knowledge.
The project involved semi structured telephone interviews with 39 adolescents bereaved by suicide
and/or another cause of death.
During the interview participants talked about their relationship with the person they had lost,

Gender, Ritual And Reality By Marla N. Powers
We have always learned about the history and it always has to do with men. The role they had
and what they contribute to the society. However, this is not only a man s world but also a
woman s. Women s contributions are equally important for the development of the society.
Similarly, in the book assigned Oglala Women Myth, Ritual and Reality by Marla N. Powers,
demonstrates the life of women from a Lakota tribe and what their gender role contributes to the
tribe and to their families and religions. Furthermore, Power tries to educate her reader about the
gender and diversity of world s religion through her book. The most interesting chapter from
Powers book was the Old Age , chapter 6. In this chapter, she describes the roles of a

Humans also have wants, and these wants might as well be needs in the mind of the wanter.
Humans will go to great lengths to achieve these needs and pseudo needs, including the

Go The game go is a strategy game. It combines beauty with intellectual challenges, and the
patterns formed by the black and white stones are visually striking and can exercise an almost
hypnotic attraction as the game goes on (American Go Association). It is played with two people
sitting across from each other with the game board in between them. The game board is usually a
nine by nine, thirteen by thirteen, or nineteen by nineteen grid constructed of wood or bamboo.
Beginners start out on the nine by nine board, and the when they feel comfortable, they will start to

references as far back as 2500 to 4000 years (American Go Association). The knowledge of the
game s timeline comes from the mention of go in books, diaries, and documents like Analects of
Confucius and The Tale of Genji. Go has not changed much over time, but Archeological
evidence shows that the early game was played on a board with a 17x17 grid. By the time that
the game had spread to Korea and Japan in about the 7th century, boards with a 19x19 grid had
become standard (Wikipedia). According to legends, either Emperor Yao or Emperor Shun invented

My Eating Habits Of Losing My Weight Since My Last Year Of...
I wanted to manage my eating habits to lose my weight since my last year of high school
because I noticed myself when I face in the mirror. It was a bad experience that I had in my life
because I want to lose my weight for consider for my health as well. However, I could not follow
up to balance my eating habits because I could not handle within my stress from school,
workplace, and financial crisis. Also, I could not find the place to live in after I transferred into the
UC Irvine last year because it was very difficult to find the roommates during that time. Therefore, I
ate too much to release my stresses from commuting and financial crisis at the same time.
Therefore, I really want to balance my eating habits like avoiding fast foods at late night for snacks
because I think that eating these fast foods at night cause me to gain weight too much at the end.
I was very frustrating about to avoiding fast food as soon as possible because my body seems to get
used to absorb some calories from them, so it will be hard for me to start as fresh right now.
However, it will be good opportunities that I could start fresh so that I could lose some weight at
the end of this project because I was hoping these opportunities so badly all the time. First, I will
set my daily exercise schedule for every week because it will be much better and faster. Also, I will
not eat fast foods for 10 days because these foods were highest risks of gaining weight and make

Book Of Jeremiah Research Paper
However, to embrace the exiles from Judah in their circumstances and reflect on the message of
God spoken through the Prophet Jeremiah found in 29:10 14 one must know the circumstances that
led up to the Babylonian destruction of Judah and the oppression of the kingdom s people as exiles.
One must know the destruction before one may see the grace of God bestowed upon the people in a
message of renewal, restoration and salvation. Judah, the southern kingdom, came under threat
from the Babylonians during the time of Jeremiah the Prophetwhich was from 628 until 586 B.C.E.
Egypt had aided Judah during the first threat in 588 B.C.E. and Judah did not fall. However, during
the second attack on Judah the monarchs were not able to defend Judah and... Show more content on

In chapter 29, one hears Jeremiah say to accept servitude to the Babylonians. The Judeans have
come under punishment from God for their sins. They have received the punishment due to them
according to God and their lives it seems at this point are at the hands of their enemies the
Babylonians even though their fate is in God s hands. Jeremiah continues to speak out
prophetically fighting against those who are false prophets who are intent on telling the people
warm and fuzzy lies to cover up and deny the brokenness that has caused them to be in exile. God
has spoken to Jeremiah of why Judah must be in exile, why Judah must come to terms with what
has happened to them. Jeremiah knows God wants Judah to turn and repent for turning away from
God but the people do not listen to Jeremiah. When the people finally listen to Jeremiah they are
already in exile in Babylonia. Jeremiah must send letters to proclaim God s Word to them.
Jeremiah was one of those who were left behind in Judah. Jeremiah was left behind seeing the
destruction of Jeremiah s homeland first hand. Jeremiah has been deemed the weeping prophet
because of Jeremiah s deep care and love for the people of Judah and for God. Jeremiah feels not
only the grief God experiences for having to destroy the people but Jeremiah feels the grief of
the people being destroyed. Jeremiah weeps in chapter 9 because Jeremiah knows what is
coming. But on the other hand, Jeremiah wanted to see the truth of God s reality come to
fruition because Jeremiah knew of God s great love for God s people. The ethos Jeremiah uses in
the prophetic word Jeremiah speaks is genuine and in no way false as the words of the false
prophet, Hananiah when Hananiah spoke saying the exile would only last two years (Jer

Relationship Between Hannibal And Lecter
In Hannibal, there is a different kind of partnership as previously examined. This partnership
between the second and the protagonist is dark and manipulative. NBC s Hannibal is a
psychological thriller horror television series developed by executive producer and show runner
Bryan Fuller. The focus on the friendship between FBI special investigator Will Graham, played by
actor Hugh Dancy, and Dr. Hannibal Lecter, played by actor Mads Mikkelsen. Graham presents a
chance for a romantic connection, as well as a chance for Lecter to find someone who
understands him. Lecter s fascination with Graham may originate from him discovering a
younger mirror image of himself, and the opportunity to toy with this younger version and get
inside his head. Fuller states, Hannibal sees something in Will Graham that he also sees in
himself. They re both unique and they re crazy (Fuller). Over the show, Graham slowly starts
losing grip on his reality but FBI Special Agent, Jack Crawford, sees Graham s empathy disorder as
something he can use to help others so he keeps Graham on the team. However, Lecter does not
want Graham to self destruct because that would mean losing his only chance at having another

that desires to be understood, or in part at least acknowledged. This acknowledgment has less to do
with the notion of love but more with connection. Lecter does not seek approval from Graham, but

Analysis Of Albert Camus s Speech
People choose every day in different circumstances and degrees either small imperceptible one,
such as the color of the shirt that they will wear, or huge emotional and moral dilemmas like an
abort or a high risk surgery. Nonetheless, there is always a decision made that has its
consequences (want or not). Albert Camus uses characterization to address the importance of
choices. The author uses the character of Balducci to show what happens when people follow
the rules without hesitation. For example, when Balducci arrives into the school to leave the
Arab with Daru, and Daru shows himself discontent with that unforeseen problem, he says,
Those are the orders (Camus). Balducci as a man of law must follow whatever thing is said to
him, and he will do it for sure without dubiety; in addition, Balducci remarks, [Y]ou must sign,
that s the rule (Camus). He has to obey all the requisites and commandments that his work
dictates, and he can t avoid doing this because he will break all the goodness that justice
represents. Nevertheless, Camus tries to point out if a person who only follow a guide or
manual for every decision he or she made. That person is, in fact, making no choices, and he or
she does not have to face and think about what is right or wrong because that person will search
and do whatever is said in that guide. Particularly, in this story, Balducci notes, You don t get used
to putting a rope on a man even after years of it... (Camus). Even though he does not

An Description Of An Exact Dissipation Model For Arbitrary
Referee Report: Manuscript ID# OL: 280139
PAPER DESCRIPTION
In the paper titled An exact dissipation model for arbitrary photonic Fock state transport in
waveguide QED systems , Chen et al. have presented a dissipation model to study the Fock and
coherent state transport through waveguide QED (wQED) systems. As the main novelty of their
work, they have modelled the environment as a 3D scattering channel (described in a real space
picture similar to the waveguide modelling) and it has been shown that a reduced Hamiltonian can
be obtained for arbitrary photon number Fock state which can describe the photonic transport with
a restricted eigenstate. To illustrate, one , two , N photon and coherent state examples are
presented. Finally, two simple geometries of the scattering channel are considered namely the
uniform medium and a slab waveguide. Authors have also very briefly pointed out the applicability
of their model in cavity QED.
COMMENTS AND DECISION
Overall the paper has interesting findings and is systematically presented. In particular, the
modelling of the environment as a non excitable 3D scattering channel, is the key attraction in this
work. Moreover, the authors have made claims which seems not to be exaggerated. However, there
are some points in this work which can be ambiguous to the interested reader. Therefore, I can
recommend publication of this paper in the Optics Letters, provided the authors performs the

Tankless Heaters Research Paper
Many homeowners are opting to switch to a tankless water heater. Tankless water heaters can
also be covered by a home appliance warranty. Anyone who has ever written a American Home
Shield review knows that a home appliance warranty can be very beneficial. The benefits of
tankless water heaters are numerous. Below are some of the reasons more people are opting to
switch to a tankless water heater:
The Lifespan
Many people who have written an American Home Shield review have noticed that their water
heater has only lasted for eight to 12 years. However, a tankless water heater can potentially last
much longer than that. In fact, your tankless water heater may last over 20 years. The key to
making sure that your tankless water heater lasts a long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tankless water heaters only use a fraction of the energy that traditional water heaters use. While
traditional water heaters will store water inside of the tank, tankless water heaters will only use
water when needed. This is why tankless water heaters do not have to use as much energy.
Keep in mind that you will be paying more initially for your hot water heater. However, the money
that you save with your hot water heater will make it a worthwhile investment. You may be able to
cut your energy costs by 30 percent each year.
Save Space
Many people who live in smaller homes have opted to switch to tankless water heaters. They take
up significantly less space than traditional water heaters. In fact, the average tankless water heater
is only 1/4 of the size of a regular water heater. You will have more floor or closet space.
You Will Have Cleaner Water
Traditional water heaters are prone to scale and rust. This rust can end up in the water that you use
to drink and bathe. On the other hand, you will be able to have cleaner water if you have a
tankless water heater.

How Hardware And Software Is Necessary
What Hardware and Software is needed to create and edit graphical images.
Hardware
Monitor Visually Displaying the image on Screen, they come in a very of different sizes and
resolutions. The monitor is an output device where is receives information from the computer to
display the image on the screen in the form of pixels. This data usually comes from the Graphics
Card or the integrated graphics within the processor outputted by the motherboard. This connects to
the computer either via HMDI, VGA, DVI or Thunderbolt.
Graphics Card display the data on the screen. These consist of small pixels but many millions of
them. So the graphics card is a translator and takes binary data from the CPU and turns it into a
picture you can see on the monitor. Unless there is an integrated GPU built in with the
motherboard then this replaces it. It s connected to the motherboard by slotting in the PCI slot
which is shown with the arrow. Also there is a power cable which is connected to it from the
PSU and a cable to connect to the monitor (VGA, HDMI and DVI). It is required in order to
reduce the power output from the CPU needed to display the image. This allows the CPU to
perform other background tasks whilst the GPU can deal with displaying the Graphical data.
Graphics Tablet Easing the ability to create, edit images, it s an Alternative from using a mouse.

Digestive System Disorder
For my Anatomy and Physiology final I chose to research a digestive system disorder. I
researched different disorders and the most appealing disorder to me was the Gastroesophageal
Reflux Disease, or most commonly known as GERD as well as Acid Reflux Disease. GERD is a
common disorder with more than 10 million Americans who have been diagnosed, including
infants. GERD is a reflux disease that is triggered by a weak lower esophageal sphincter. The
lower esophageal sphincter, LES, is located between the end of the esophagus and the stomach. A
closed lower esophageal sphincter prevents acid and bolus from returning to the esophagus.
Those diagnosed with GERD experience a weak lower esophageal sphincter, which can cause
bolus and acid to travel up the esophagus, causing a heart burning sensation. Overtime, a
continuous exposure to the stomach acid and bolus can cause the esophagus to erode, which
may result in bleeding as well as breathing problems. A most common symptom of GERD is
heartburn that increases when bending over, stooping, lying down, and eating. Other symptoms
that can occur are nausea, hoarseness, laryngitis chronic dry cough, asthma, an increase of
saliva, earaches, as well as bad breath. Nausea is experienced when eating either too quickly or
eat an excess of food in a short amount of time. If your lower esophagus sphincter, or LES, is too
weak, an excess of food can cause a back up into the esophagus. The acid reflux can enter the
pharynx, the throat,

A Survey Report On Malaysian Diaspora
Introduction
To better understand what media sources the Singaporean diaspora uses to find out about news
back home in Singapore, I conducted a survey amongst Singaporeans based overseas, namely in
places such as Australia, the United States, some countries in South East Asia and also in Europe.
The demographics used were age based, dispersed mainly among working class adults and
university students.
The survey resulted in a 40% readership of www.straitstimes.com, the online version of Singapore s
leading newspaper The Straits Times and a 27% readership of another website, which is also a
subsidiary of the Straits Times, called Stomp. Going from these numbers, one can say that the
bulk of Singaporeans overseas still rely heavily on the online version of The Straits Times for
news back home in Singapore. From here, I can conclude that the key media outlet utilised by
Singaporeans overseas would be the StraitsTimes.com. My survey also includes the purposes of
these sites, namely what Singaporeans use these sites for and how much whether or not they
consider these sources to be relevant.
In this essay, I intend to analyse the The Straits Times and its online counterpart,
www.straitstimes.com , as well as its other subsidiary STOMP (Straits Times Online Mobile Print).
Given the premise that www.straitstimes.com is reflective of its parent, The Straits Times, it is
imperative that we analyse The Straits Times as a whole, taking into consideration that in the end

Artemisia Gentileschi s Esther Before Ahasuerus
Artemisia Gentileschi s Esther before Ahasuerus depicts the biblical scene of Esther going before
the King of Persia unsummoned to plead for a request. The Visual Element/Principles of Design
that stood out were line, tonal value, color, texture, emphasis, and unity/variety. The dominant
visual element that stands out in this Gentileschi piece is emphasis/focal point. It is clear that she
wants the viewers eyes to be drawn to Esther. She accomplishes this first through tonal value.
Gentileschi uses chiaroscuro to illuminate Esther s face and causes her to be the focal point of the
piece. Esther is also emphasized through implied line. The king and ladies eyes direct the viewer
towards Esther. The asymmetric balance also accentuates Esther.

The Critical Stage Of Persuasion
The term Persuasion originated directly from the Latin word, persuasionem, or, persuadere ,
meaning to persuade, convince or from Old French, persuasion , meaning the act of inducing to

Jeremiah s speech in the Old Testament to convince his people to believe in God, and to repent. A
persuasive manner referred to by rhetoricians as Jeremiad genre. Persuasionas an intellectual

Self esteem as an essential human need that is vital for survival and normal, healthy

Self esteem occurs in conjunction with a person s thoughts, behaviors, feelings, and actions.
According to Abraham Maslow s hierarchy of needs, the need for self esteem plays a key role,

both esteem from other people as well as inner self respect. Both must be fulfilled in order for a

Pratt Carrol stated that Music is the language of emotion, and emotions tend to be the same the
world over, in spite of differences in social customs and language. In other words, music is a
fabulous expression of the human being no matter the culture or norms because it manages to
immediately transmit different feelings and emotions that other forms of art may not transmit.
For my Introduction to music class I decided, to write about the Seventh Symphony in A major (Op.
92) by Ludwig van Beethoven. The reason why I choose this symphony is because it s an emotional
piece of music, and it definitely catch my attention since the moment I heard it. I feel this
symphony reach emotional situations that are above human explosions. Emotional areas that
invade us through a contradictory fact between feelings. The Seventh Symphony in A major by
Beethoven appears in 1813. The orchestra contains two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets in A, two
bassoons, two horns in A (E and D in the inner movements), two trumpets in D, timpani, and strings.
Beethoven insisted on directing it at its premiere, with tragicomic results. The critics recognized a
new genius of Beethoven; even today there are experts who consider it as the best of their
symphonies. Richard Wagner, another fervent Beethovenian, describe this symphony as all tumult,
all yearning and storming of heart into the blissful insolence of joy, which snatches us away with
bacchanalian might. For its relentless dance rhythm and

Melodrama and Heaven Allows Essay
Both Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Todd Haynes have drawn on Sirk s film melodramas in their
films. Discuss the differences and similarities between their uses of Sirkian melodrama in their
films Ali: Fear Eats the Soul and Far From Heaven. In developing your analysis you should engage
with theoretical debates about these filmmakers s work and theories of melodrama, and you should
support your analysis through close reading of the films
Douglas Sirk, a Danish German film director, is best known for being the father of Melodrama.
He is commonly referred to as a master of the weepie (Willemen 1972) and has been an inspiration
and paved the way for other directors to use and adapt his work. One film that has been embraced

In this way, audiences are made aware that if it weren t for Cathy losing the scarf, they would have

Williams also states that victim heroes are the focus of melodramas through recognition of the
character s virtue, where the victim s point of view is the main concentration of melodrama. The
protagonist s moral virtue ultimately causes immense suffering, thus causing audiences to
empathise with them (Williams 1998). In Far From Heaven, it is Cathy who is the virtuous
individual who silently suffers to maintain equilibrium within her family and society at large. This
is conveyed throughout the film as each event leads us to Cathy s (the victim) recognition as
virtuous through her suffering (Skvirsky 2008). In the first half of the film, Cathy decides she will
do well by her husband Frank by bringing his dinner to the office as he is working late. Just as she
arrives at his office late at night, Cathy discovers her husband, to her surprise romantically involved
with another man. In the latter part of the film, Frank confronts Cathy. He demands to know
whether rumours she had spent the afternoon with a man of colour, Raymond Deagon are true.
Through the course of these events, Cathy gives up the

How Did Lennon Fight In Vietnam
Vietnam War John Lennon
The Vietnam War happened between November 1955 to April 1975. The conflict was between
North and South Vietnam. A leader named Ho Chi Minh and other North Vietnamese citizens
wished to overthrow the French colonialists and he wanted to create a full communist regime
similar to the Soviet Union and China. America decided to aid France because the U.S. government
hypothesized that if Vietnam became communist, the rest of Asia would also. This was called the
domino theory. However, the North Vietnamese were able to defeat France even with America s
help. In 1954, the country was divided into communist North Vietnam and anti communist South
Vietnam. That is when the conflict arose. North Vietnam was assisted by communist... Show more

He influenced many people to protest against the Vietnam War. Being not in favour of the war was
a sort of counter culture as it is seen going against the government. However, Lennon and Ono were
not the only ones that were against the war, it seemed like a general consensus to everyone. The
logic being that the United States had no acceptable reason to be involved, the conflict should just
be between North Vietnam and South Vietnam only. Protests did begin small, with peace activist
and liberal college students. But gained massive support in the next 3 years as more and more men
got wounded and killed during battle. President Richard Nixon and his board attempted to deport
Lennon when he ridiculed the Vietnam War and the government. It was unsuccessful and Lennon

3.1.Donors (Suppliers)
Blood donation occurs when a person voluntarily has blood drawn and used for transfusion.
Donation could be of whole blood which used rare now or of specific components directly. Blood
banks prepare and participate in blood collection campaigns and the followed procedures. Today in
developed countries, most blood donors are unpaid volunteers who donate blood for community

The Treatment of Women in Trifles
The Treatment of Women in Trifles Trifles, a one act play written by Susan Glaspell, is a cleverly
written story about a murder and more importantly, it effectively describes the treatment of women
during the early 1900s. In the opening scene, we learn a great deal of information about the people
of the playand of their opinions. We know that there are five main characters, three men and two
women. The weather outside is frighteningly cold, and yet the men enter the warm farmhouse first.
The women stand together away from the men, which immediately puts the men against the

A Research Study Of The Airius Air Pear With Phi Cell Units
As a company, you have already done your research and began stepping in the proper direction
for creating an overall sanitary and healthy atmosphere for your guests and employees. At the
moment, I believe you have just under 7 of the Airius Air Pear with PHI cell units in your
facility, that have been purchased over the past few months in multiple orders. With my study of
these products, I ve come to realize the the great impact they can have on your environment.
Typically, where I would love to find and highlight all of the negative things about the Airius
products vs. ours, there is truly only one, which I will point out later. However, there are a few
major points to consider when comparing our products to theirs. The Airius Air Pear with PHI
cell (which is the unit(s) you have currently), are designed to equal out the temperature of the air
in a room while emitting Ionized Hydro Peroxides to sanitize and disinfect all of the air and
surfaces. These units have a cost to you of $2,000 each with a recommended 1500 2000 sq ft
operating space and are FDA approved. The unit is also designed to last for 2yrs with a $300
parts replacement to renew and must be done by your staff. The unit will also need to be
maintained by your staff throughout the years. The one negative aspect I mentioned before, is that
while emitting these Ionized Hydro Peroxides, the unit also emits a small level of ozone (as quoted
on their product description) which has been shown to be harmful

Dentistry And Its Impact On The Human Body
Dentistry is defined as the evaluation, diagnosis, prevention and/or treatment of diseases, disorders
and/or conditions of the oral cavity maxillofacial area and/or the adjacent and associated structures
and their impact on the human body. When considering the field of dentistry as a career, one must
study the history, the different types, and the required education and qualifications.
Dentistry has been around for centuries. It requires years of training and education to become a
dentist but what people don t realize is that when a person finally graduates from the many years
of schooling, they enter into a medical tradition that has existed for thousands of years. Long

During the Renaissance, sciences were developed at a very fast rate. Dentistry was not yet a
specialized field during this time so it took off more slowly than the general field of medicine
(Hovius 54 62). Often times dentists were self taught and they traveled around the countryside to
reach people outside of the major cities. Anesthesia had not yet been developed which led to
people being nervous about having a tooth removed by self taught traveling dentists who didn t
use painkillers. In the year 1840, the first dental school was founded in Baltimore, Maryland. It
was called The Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. Around that time there was a lot of fake
dentists that would go around and not give the right kind of dental care and take people s money.
All of the fake dentists led to the founding of the ADA (American Dental Association) which is
what seven out of ten dentists are in today (Hovius 67).
The field of dentistry has advanced very far since the start of civilization. In today s world,
technology is constantly changing and it happens with increasing speed. One invention that has
become common in most dentist s offices is the electric drill. Dentists also have perfected the use
of the x ray and use cutting edge metal alloys to fill cavities and to crown decayed and destroyed
teeth. Dentists should no longer be feared because they are equipped with the best tools and are
some of the most educated professionals (Hovius 67).

Why Leasing Becomes More and More Preferable for A Company in Indonesia?
I.Preface
Being in a very high competitive business condition, a company has to be well prepared for every
potential business problem. One of the problems is for a company which will do such a business
expansion, they need to spend huge amount of money to make some new investments. For instance,
they need to have new capital assets to run their new business.
Due to the huge amount of money they have to spend, the company usually does not provide a
bundle of cash from their own pocket to get those kinds of new capital assets. To provide the new
capital assets needed, the company has some alternative solutions they can choose. Those ... Show

6.Lessor expects to obtain all of the carrying cost of the leased asset back, including the other costs

The advantages and disadvantages of leasing as an alternative of capital source are as follow
The advantages:
1.Full financing : leasing transaction is usually done without any down payment and the financing
can be given up to 100%
2.More flexible : leasing is said to be flexible compared to banking loan because the rental payment
can be arranged and matched to lessee ability
3.Off balance sheet : activa that is included into leasing category is not listed in the company asset
4.Consideration of technology advance : the company is avoided from the loss due to the fast
growth of technology
5.Incerase Debt Capacity
The disadvantages:
1.Force major
It is the cancellation of leasing transaction, for example due to a fire or natural disaster.
2.Default
It is the cancellation of leasing transaction because the lessee is not able to pay the lease payment
and other leasing liability so that finance lease contract is over prior the inception date.

Negligence Of Negligence Falls Under Tort Law
.0 Introduction Negligence is the failure to exercise due care or diligence that a reasonable or
prudent man would exercise in similar circumstances. The law of negligence falls under tort law
where it involves harm that is caused by carelessness and not intentional harm (Katter, 2002). A
tort is a civil wrong that is in the form of a breach of duty, which amounts to legal remedy that is
awarded in damages. Tort lawrests upon two principles that state that an act or omission by the
defendant interferes with the rights of the plaintiff, which in turn causes damages (Trindade,
2007). Secondly, the interference caused by the defendant gives rise to a cause of action for
damages that are as near as possible to the plaintiff s loss. Therefore, negligencecan be defined as
doing something that a reasonable man would not have done in similar circumstances or failure to
do what a reasonable man would have done which amounts to infliction of harm.
2.0 Background The main idea of the law of negligence is to ensure that people exercise
reasonable care when they act by measuring the potential harm that may foreseeably cause harm to
other people. Negligence is the principal trigger for liability to ascend in matters that deal with the
loss of property of personal injury. Therefore, a person cannot be liable for something unless they
have been found negligent or have contributed to the loss of property or injury to the plaintiff
(Stuhmcke, 2005). There is more to

The breakdown of African society has been steadily increasing through the last century and still

striking similarities between the book Things Fall Apart written by Chinua Achebeand the poem
The Second Coming written by William Butler Yeats, that is concerning the demise in some respect
of the African culture. The two pieces of literature shows from the African peoples point of view of

of money into the clan itself which also causes some to abandon their traditional African way of
life. I feel that the poem and the novel help to capture the way some will feel among the new
kinship between the traditional African society and the introduction of the white men . Some will
embrace this change as they see benefit in the new relationship with education, health care, and
profits. However some will not embrace the change among the tribe, as they see how this new
friendship is causing destruction of their culture and way of life. This continuing struggle is still
being waged among many African tribes today. To me these pieces of literature help capture the

Historical Accuracy Of Benjamin Martin In The Movie, The...
Breaking news!Benjamin Martin is fake, I repeat, Benjamin Martin is fake! You might be
wondering, who is Benjamin Martin? Well to start off, he is the main character in the movie, the
Patriot. The patriot was a movie released in 2000 that is a parody of the Revolutionary War. The
patriot is somewhat historically accurate because it portrays militia fighters, it has some hollywood
differences, and it portrays what life was like back then. In the movie, Benjamin Martin is forced to

Analyzing Romare Bearden s The Family

October 13, 2014 Romare Bearden s The Family (1941) The Family (1975) Comparisons
Romare Bearden, a great artist that expresses many feelings throughout his photos. He expresses
different types of feelings and meanings through colors, background, character demeanor, and even
the posture of the characters in the picture. My favorite painting by Romare Bearden has to be The
Family (1941) due to the fact that I had a personal connection to the picture. I never knew of
Romare Bearden s other painting that related to this one which is The Family (1975). This is a
similar picture but the family isn t as depressed as the family in the first picture. This family doesn

His frustration is visible in the expression on his face. He appears tired of her bothering him
about it, hence the hand. The child is showing a lot of white which can represent faith, I think the
artist did this to say that the baby is giving the family faith because they are trying to provide for
their child and in order to do that they need to be able to put food on the table which won t just only
help the baby but them as a whole. The woman may also symbolize strength that s why the artist
made her dress and lipstick red; she s fiery. She may help the husband maintain his sanity no
matter how many problems they are going through as a family. In the second picture, The Family
(1975), it seems as if it could be a picture of the same family but they are living a better life. In the
previous picture they only had a slice of bread on the table; in this picture they have a whole table
of food. It appears like they have a loaf a bread in which the man who is probably the father is
cutting. The family also has plates and cups at the table, when in the previous picture; all they
had was a plate and a fork. This may mean that the family has become more financially stable and
are able to provide for the family that was once struggling. The colors in this picture are brighter
and more joyful than the first picture. The first picture had dark colors such as dark blue, grey,
black, which often

The Issue Of Underage Drinking
The issue of underage drinking has been constant for many years. The law for the minimum
drinking age allows people 21 and older to legally drink alcoholic beverages. It is hard to enforce
this law especially on college campuses where lots of underage drinking takes place. Someone
that is 18 and older can get into some clubs where they are getting drinks even though they are
not supposed to. There is a level of responsibility they needs to be taken when people are
drinking. They should know how to handle themselves when alcohol is in their system.
Consuming too many alcoholic beverages can cause health issues, behavior issues, and have
other harmful effects on a person. The issues that come along with drinking alcohol will affect
teenagers and college students more than it would affect someone that is 21 or older. The
minimum drinking age law should remain at 21 to keep more young adults from encountering
issues associated with drinking. Young adults that are in the age range of 18 20 are more likely
to be more reckless than someone who is older and more mature. Adolescents hit the age of 18
and feel like they are grown and finally able to do what they want to do. Some have already
started drinking alcohol and will start to drink it more frequently. Having alcohol in their systems
will cause their behavior to change and could affect their rationale of thinking. Their senses will be
affected as well which causes more accidental injuries, altercations, and driving

  • 2. Memory Failure During Pregnancy A study published in Nature Neuroscience stated that, with pregnancy, the areas of the woman s cerebral cortex wither. That is, the mother s brain shrinks. It seems the news is negative, but there is no reason to worry. In fact, this is a good sign. A smaller brain can be more efficient and specialized. By shrinking, post pregnancybrains are perfectly sculpted to respond better to babies. Now the news is good, is not it? The regions that diminish most part of the frontal and temporal cortex, as well as the median line are related to empathy. Selective shrinkage indicates that these regions have become more specialized, increasing the efficiency of the mother to care for the baby. It is as if the brain has matured into the new stage of life. The most altered brain regions are the same ones that activate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in analyzing 25 first time mothers, Hoekzema found no memory related changes in pre pregnancy until the postpartum months. But the research did not test women during pregnancy. According to Liisa Galea, a neurologist at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, there are signs of memory failure during pregnancy and immediately after birth in both people and animals. Factors may vary depending on the trimester of pregnancy and the gender of the fetus. But there is no reason for despair. Galea points out that after the initial period, motherhood can actually make the brain stronger. Pregnancy and motherhood are dramatic events that change lives and have lasting repercussions on the brain, but the repercussions can be good Liisa Galea, a neurologist at the University of British Columbia. In a maze test, the mothers of rats that did not breastfeed overcame the rats that never gave birth. In addition, rats who had been pregnant outperformed non mothers on memory tests, Galea ... • 3. Iago As A Domestic Tragedy In Shakespeare s Othello Explore the significance of this extract in relation to the tragedy of the play as a whole. Remember to include in your answer relevant analysis of Shakespeare s dramatic methods. [ Othello being a domestic tragedy is still considered to be as great as Shakespeare s other plays such as Macbeth King Lear and Hamlet. Othello s hamartia is his natural inclination to loyalty and blind trust which makes him easily manipulated and brings him to his dreadful end. The conversation between Rodrigo, a man with a strong lust for Desdemona, and Iago shows Iago s cold hearted and twisted character and the weakness of lust that Rodrigo has for Desdomona . His intentions and where his true loyalty lies hold no value to him. He is instantly a threat when he tells Rodrigo I am not what I am (pg 6, line 67). This means with Iago what you see is clearly not what you get could show that Iago is a villain in the play. Although he claims his hatred for Othello is because he did not get his well deserved position as a lieutenant or because he claims that he had slept with his wife Amelia; Iago seems to just love to plot evil schemes for the sake of coursing mayhem and chaos for no apparent reason. As Samuel Taylor Coleridge said Iago seems to engage in The motive hunting of motiveless Malignity . This means that Iago basically just purely loves to do evil and is always looking for a reason to plant sins and help them grow; Iago is pretty much the devil. Iago s claim of being ... • 4. Teaching Assistant Report The fascination and interest in text can be kept up with daily reading sessions. This will spark their interest in decoding words. The teaching assistant will help with these skills including reminding the child or their alphabet and phonic sounds to assist with decoding. Modelling is a key supporting method for learning literacy both with speaking and writing words. In reading to children, the teaching assistant will be showing them how to read fluently and how their voice can help make sense of the text being read. Hearing modelled reading can lead to an increased interest in reading, an improvement in vocabulary and more knowledge of the world around them. It is important for children to read regularly, if not daily. This may be within the school... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Differentiation can be guided by a teaching assistant. The teacher will plan guided reading sessions where the children are divided into their appropriate reading abilities. During the week, each group will rotate with the teacher ensuring that the teacher is able to help improve their fluency and investigation through reading instruction at their own reading levels. In turn, the teaching assistant will give reading instruction to a separate group who will be working towards questioning the text they are reading through comprehension. During these sessions, there will be emphasis on speaking and listening together, and reading and writing together. These sessions also allow additional groups to work independently, reading at their own specific level. The roles of the teacher and teaching assistant in this area are interchangeable and dependent on the teacher’s planning. • 5. How Do Diaspora Media Help Construct Meanings of Community... As a result of the western colonizing movement of the 19th century, a massive diasporic movement of people across boundaries formed a unique group. This ongoing process of population movement and mass exodus, as well as the effects it caused drew attention to the academic world at both cultural and political levels. However, unlike the original residents, this diasporic shift demonstrated distinctive traits such as identity and an ideology which evidently differed from those of the natives. As Sreberny (2000. P179) argued: Diaspora has become a key term in theorizing about immigration, ethnicity and identity and exerted a considerable influence historically, culturally, socially and economically on developed capitalist societies.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Diaspora media, especially electronic media, with its facility of connection between locations, has successfully managed to improve the quality and speed of communication, as well as to shape its identity in local, national and transnational levels within a modern social context. Direct audio and visual experience allows audiences to get together and exchange opinions over a variety of topics such as languages, fashion, lifestyle, political viewpoints. This daily regular activity of sharing the same media has made people subconsciously advance the sense of belonging in a common unity (Anderson, 1983). From our living experiences, it is not hard to find out that there are so many resources of information to choose from, which means our world has been filled with media, and the diasporic space is no exception. Through all these media, people encode and decode information, accept and reject ideas, and (re)define (new) meanings of culture, community and identity. Electronic media shorten the distance between locations and helped dispersed people to share the culture of the same root, allow comparison, (re)construction of symbols, present and mediate meanings of Diasporas, localities, communities and identities. Therefore, in media cultures social interaction and relations are no longer dependent on simultaneous spatial co presence (Lull, 2000. P97). Instead, they use symbols and direct visuality to carry the latter day communal memories and offer new schedules for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Returning to School Essay Wanting to return to school has been a dream for a long time. I am starting out a little late, at 45 years old, but I have finally found my passion, working in education. Since the age of thirteen, I have been working multiple jobs day and night, only to still be below the poverty line; stuck in survival mode for so long now that I need to have a permanent positive change that will help me accomplish more than I ever have. The reason for me going back to school is to get certified so I may become a teacher. Our low income was the culprit on pushing me to get started. I have been struggling for so long that now it is time for me to make a real difference in my life and those around me, hopefully resulting in an increase in my... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While doing everything, I have been the only income, and support for my family, working three jobs, and volunteering for the PHS Band Boosters. Stress is high at home, and I just do not feel welcome. Our power was turned off, the phone and internet have already been disconnected, the house is a mess, the cars are breaking down, and we have no clothes, or shoes that are decent, and no money to buy any. I cannot afford to have the trash hauled off, so we live with piles of garbage outside and inside. I am two months behind on the rent, and we live out of the local food banks for our food. I m so embarrassed of how we live that I won t let anyone come over to visit. I hear the kids and my husband saying that they blame me for how we live. It s my fault that I am not home to keep things clean, or help with their homework, or that I am not bringing in enough money to pay the bills. I have to fight each day just to prove myself, to those closest to me. At this time the best that I can do, is to talk with one of the counselors at school, to see if they may be able to help us out as a family. Working with so many different types of people throughout the years, has taught me that there is a way if it is important enough to you. Giving up is not an option In order for this to work a serious change at home will need to take place, getting everyone back on track, and setting their priorities straight. I will need ... (pg.24) Even though the children s presence sometimes annoyed Sam, he knew his loving wife Cora was responsible for their caring ways and he took comfort in that. I can really relate to their worrying and overreacting as I too have worried about my own Dad during some tough times. Sam was very lucky to have family that cared so much and lived so close. Many elderly people do not have family close by, family that cares or family period. Even though Sam feels he can fend for himself and doesn t need his family s help, he really does need them. This is evident the time he collapsed from the pain in his hip and also when he got lost on his way to his reunion. Of course, anyone can get lost, however, Sam due to his fragile condition was unable to leave his truck to get help. If it was freezing or nobody came along to help him he very likely would have died that night. It really made me think when Sam collapsed from the pain in his hip. • 10. A Short Note On Alcohol, Tobacco, Marijuana, And Opioids Julie Thao HSCD 300 01 Essay 1 February 7th, 2016 1. The four most commonly used substances as described from the course textbook are alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and opioids. Alcohol is a translucent liquid in appearance and has a bitter acquired taste which suppresses brain activity. The intake of alcohol effects the cerebral cortex by ceasing the inhibition of user and develops a relaxed and more social characteristic in the way the user interacts with others. As a depressant, the use of alcohol with its relaxing effect causes impairment in cognition and ability to make effective decisions. Another effect caused by the intake of alcohol are increased sex drive prior to the frontal lobe of the brain being under the influence of chemicals and damage to the major brain neurotransmitters, which can lead to impairment of new memories. The effects that alcohol are accountable for on the body are on the cardiovascular system and massive amounts of alcohol use leading to intoxication can cause severe damage to the liver including the nervous system resulting in death (Stevens, P., Smith, R. L., 2013). Nicotine can be found in tobacco products an example is in cigarettes. It serves as a minor stimulant as well as a sedative to the central nervous system. • 12. The Effects Of The Malthusian Catastrophe Throughout The... After Adam Smith s Wealth of Nations, his view of classical economics flourished. One of his successors Thomas Malthus continued with a more pessimist view of society, while still keeping to Smith s fundamentals. Out of this pessimistic viewpoint comes the Malthusian Doctrine, which states that as the populationrate grows greater than the rate of produce to feed it, and, if unchecked, the world s population will double every 25 years. At the same time land cannot keep up with the population growth, because land cannot breed. This will lead to a population growth problem. This paper will explore the effects of the Malthusian catastrophethroughout the past few centuries. Reviewing the implications of population growth and the need for implementations to limit population growth and natural resource depletion, providing questions challenging this point of view, and interacting with arguments of opposition can provide a well formed argument for the implementations of new policies regarding this topic. In 18th century Europe was ripe from the Industrial Revolution. The world was taking on a more optimistic thinking. However, Thomas Malthus turned against this notion with a pessimist view of population growth. The reproduction of humans and the depletion of food were evident and are still evident today. The world is becoming more populous and with it more prosperous; humans as a whole are consuming more food, water, and natural resources than ever. In Malthus time the same ... Inside was dry earth and cold silver. That was where we went, Del and I. I thought it looked like the poor man s version of a piece of playground equipment. From a playground from not too far away, on the other side of the river bank away, closer to the worst kind of civilisation. A human hamster wheel that was what it was called. When a person lies inside and there s light at either ends of the tunnel and you have to peddle fast with your hands and feet, all the way round in a cylindrical loop. Not so easy to stop. The four year olds would go in and fall out and break an arm over the course of an afternoon play session. A council inspector in a striped high visibility vest would arrive to look over the equipment. Then they would walk past us and look up at the abandoned buildings of Briar Hills High School and shake their head at the eyesore. They would probably write some notes too. One of us would go outside just to burst a tyre on their car. The council always parked in the same place marked with a faded yellow line. It was right in front of the barrier which looked like a brittle and old fence to them but to us it meant we could hide and forget. When they parked near the barrier it was too close. ... • 14. Cities Will Be The Future Of Residential Housing Introduction. In an urbanising world, the way people fit into cities is of great importance. High Density is said to be the future of residential housing, although not everyone agrees to this way of thinking. High Density is viewed as a key strategy to manage urban growth and is becoming an increasing feature of city plans; our very own city is an example of this. High Density housing is defined as housing with a higher population density than the average, typically blocks of flats and tower blocks. Density is measured in two different perspectives; physical density related to the density of people in built density, referring to a numeric or quantitative measure. The other is through perceived density, which is in relation to the environment and to other participants. In 2011, 20.7% of dwellings in Sydney were classified as high density. Australian cities are facing a number of challenges, including a significant growth in population, growing housing affordability crisis, a greater concern for environmental issues, transport and urban infrastructure. It is estimated that in the near future, 2 out of 2 people will live in cities. This is due to main reason that people naturally tend to concentrate in areas with desirable conditions. What does the cities offer as to why it is stated that the cities will be our future . Our cities offer close proximity to services, entertainment and employment. The Legitimacy And Global Governance The legitimacy and importance of institutions in global governance is a highly contested topic, among which many question the existence of international institutions. To suggest that institutions in global governance do not matter, is to suggest that the majority of countries have the willingness to co operate, the ability to solve disputes and to organise themselves to ensure problems are dealt with effectively without the pressure of an outside body which has been proven to be ineffective . This essay will examine how institutions matter and are important in global governance, through examining a realist views, using Waltz concepts of insecurity and global governance. These are important because in the international realm, there is always insecurity and a lack of trust between states; they can never be certain that there are no threats from other states and therefore there is always the risk that a war may commence. This is particularly a problem as pluralism exists among states, therefore there are different views and aims, which inevitably cause disagreements. There is essentially an anarchic condition, where there is no global government to enforce punishment or control disputes and in turn there is a constant security dilemma . Institutions, such as the UN, create a forum where different states issues can be discussed and the institution can act as a mediator to create an appropriate response and plan, in order to deal with the issues. A prime example of how where institutions this and may have been beneficial is World War One and World War Two, of which the United Nationsarose. This shows that states were aware of the dangers and risks of war that an anarchic system had, and wanted an international institution to help prevent problems such as these occurring again . Suicide And Suicide While awareness of suicide and its rippling effect on the community is increasing, much of the research into the psychological impact of those exposed to death by suicide has been focused on adults. Which is why top academic and suicide postvention expert, Karl Andriessen has focused his PhD project at the University of New South Wales, on investigating the grief, mental health and help seeking experiences of adolescents who have lost a loved one through suicide. The study, supported by the Anika Foundation for Adolescent Depression and Suicide, identifies the adolescents experiences, which may be specific for this age group, to determine whether they require specific attention from caregivers or health professionals. It is well known that exposure to suicide and bereavement after suicide is a risk factor for adverse outcomes related to health, mental health and social functioning, says Mr Andriessen. We started this research project because most of the research has been focused on the adult population, not on the younger age groups. Hence, little is known about their grief and mental experiences, and their needs for support. The study aims to redress that gap in our knowledge. The project involved semi structured telephone interviews with 39 adolescents bereaved by suicide and/or another cause of death. Jeremiah continues to speak out prophetically fighting against those who are false prophets who are intent on telling the people warm and fuzzy lies to cover up and deny the brokenness that has caused them to be in exile. God has spoken to Jeremiah of why Judah must be in exile, why Judah must come to terms with what has happened to them. Jeremiah knows God wants Judah to turn and repent for turning away from God but the people do not listen to Jeremiah. When the people finally listen to Jeremiah they are already in exile in Babylonia. Jeremiah must send letters to proclaim God s Word to them. Jeremiah was one of those who were left behind in Judah. Nonetheless, there is always a decision made that has its consequences (want or not). Albert Camus uses characterization to address the importance of choices. The author uses the character of Balducci to show what happens when people follow the rules without hesitation. For example, when Balducci arrives into the school to leave the Arab with Daru, and Daru shows himself discontent with that unforeseen problem, he says, Those are the orders (Camus). Balducci as a man of law must follow whatever thing is said to him, and he will do it for sure without dubiety; in addition, Balducci remarks, [Y]ou must sign, that s the rule (Camus). He has to obey all the requisites and commandments that his work dictates, and he can t avoid doing this because he will break all the goodness that justice represents. Nevertheless, Camus tries to point out if a person who only follow a guide or manual for every decision he or she made. An Description Of An Exact Dissipation Model For Arbitrary Referee Report: Manuscript ID# OL: 280139 PAPER DESCRIPTION In the paper titled An exact dissipation model for arbitrary photonic Fock state transport in waveguide QED systems , Chen et al. have presented a dissipation model to study the Fock and coherent state transport through waveguide QED (wQED) systems. As the main novelty of their work, they have modelled the environment as a 3D scattering channel (described in a real space picture similar to the waveguide modelling) and it has been shown that a reduced Hamiltonian can be obtained for arbitrary photon number Fock state which can describe the photonic transport with a restricted eigenstate. To illustrate, one , two , N photon and coherent state examples are presented. Finally, two simple geometries of the scattering channel are considered namely the uniform medium and a slab waveguide. Authors have also very briefly pointed out the applicability of their model in cavity QED. COMMENTS AND DECISION Overall the paper has interesting findings and is systematically presented. In particular, the modelling of the environment as a non excitable 3D scattering channel, is the key attraction in this work. Moreover, the authors have made claims which seems not to be exaggerated. Hardware Monitor Visually Displaying the image on Screen, they come in a very of different sizes and resolutions. The monitor is an output device where is receives information from the computer to display the image on the screen in the form of pixels. This data usually comes from the Graphics Card or the integrated graphics within the processor outputted by the motherboard. This connects to the computer either via HMDI, VGA, DVI or Thunderbolt. Graphics Card display the data on the screen. These consist of small pixels but many millions of them. So the graphics card is a translator and takes binary data from the CPU and turns it into a picture you can see on the monitor. Unless there is an integrated GPU built in with the motherboard then this replaces it. It s connected to the motherboard by slotting in the PCI slot which is shown with the arrow. • 32. Digestive System Disorder For my Anatomy and Physiology final I chose to research a digestive system disorder. I researched different disorders and the most appealing disorder to me was the Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, or most commonly known as GERD as well as Acid Reflux Disease. GERD is a common disorder with more than 10 million Americans who have been diagnosed, including infants. GERD is a reflux disease that is triggered by a weak lower esophageal sphincter. The lower esophageal sphincter, LES, is located between the end of the esophagus and the stomach. A closed lower esophageal sphincter prevents acid and bolus from returning to the esophagus. Those diagnosed with GERD experience a weak lower esophageal sphincter, which can cause bolus and acid to travel up the esophagus, causing a heart burning sensation. Overtime, a continuous exposure to the stomach acid and bolus can cause the esophagus to erode, which may result in bleeding as well as breathing problems. A most common symptom of GERD is heartburn that increases when bending over, stooping, lying down, and eating. Other symptoms that can occur are nausea, hoarseness, laryngitis chronic dry cough, asthma, an increase of saliva, earaches, as well as bad breath. Nausea is experienced when eating either too quickly or eat an excess of food in a short amount of time. If your lower esophagus sphincter, or LES, is too weak, an excess of food can cause a back up into the esophagus. The acid reflux can enter the pharynx, the throat, ... • 33. A Survey Report On Malaysian Diaspora Introduction To better understand what media sources the Singaporean diaspora uses to find out about news back home in Singapore, I conducted a survey amongst Singaporeans based overseas, namely in places such as Australia, the United States, some countries in South East Asia and also in Europe. The demographics used were age based, dispersed mainly among working class adults and university students. The survey resulted in a 40% readership of www.straitstimes.com, the online version of Singapore s leading newspaper The Straits Times and a 27% readership of another website, which is also a subsidiary of the Straits Times, called Stomp. Going from these numbers, one can say that the bulk of Singaporeans overseas still rely heavily on the online version of The Straits Times for news back home in Singapore. From here, I can conclude that the key media outlet utilised by Singaporeans overseas would be the StraitsTimes.com. My survey also includes the purposes of these sites, namely what Singaporeans use these sites for and how much whether or not they consider these sources to be relevant. In this essay, I intend to analyse the The Straits Times and its online counterpart, www.straitstimes.com , as well as its other subsidiary STOMP (Straits Times Online Mobile Print). Given the premise that www.straitstimes.com is reflective of its parent, The Straits Times, it is imperative that we analyse The Straits Times as a whole, taking into consideration that in the end the popular media ... Artemisia Gentileschi s Esther Before Ahasuerus Artemisia Gentileschi s Esther before Ahasuerus depicts the biblical scene of Esther going before the King of Persia unsummoned to plead for a request. The Visual Element/Principles of Design that stood out were line, tonal value, color, texture, emphasis, and unity/variety. The dominant visual element that stands out in this Gentileschi piece is emphasis/focal point. It is clear that she wants the viewers eyes to be drawn to Esther. She accomplishes this first through tonal value. Gentileschi uses chiaroscuro to illuminate Esther s face and causes her to be the focal point of the piece. Esther is also emphasized through implied line. The king and ladies eyes direct the viewer towards Esther. The asymmetric balance also accentuates Esther. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beethoven Seventh Symphony Analysis Pratt Carrol stated that Music is the language of emotion, and emotions tend to be the same the world over, in spite of differences in social customs and language. In other words, music is a fabulous expression of the human being no matter the culture or norms because it manages to immediately transmit different feelings and emotions that other forms of art may not transmit. For my Introduction to music class I decided, to write about the Seventh Symphony in A major (Op. 92) by Ludwig van Beethoven. The reason why I choose this symphony is because it s an emotional piece of music, and it definitely catch my attention since the moment I heard it. I feel this symphony reach emotional situations that are above human explosions. Emotional areas that invade us through a contradictory fact between feelings. The Seventh Symphony in A major by Beethoven appears in 1813. The orchestra contains two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets in A, two bassoons, two horns in A (E and D in the inner movements), two trumpets in D, timpani, and strings. Beethoven insisted on directing it at its premiere, with tragicomic results. The critics recognized a new genius of Beethoven; even today there are experts who consider it as the best of their symphonies. Richard Wagner, another fervent Beethovenian, describe this symphony as all tumult, all yearning and storming of heart into the blissful insolence of joy, which snatches us away with bacchanalian might. The protagonist s moral virtue ultimately causes immense suffering, thus causing audiences to empathise with them (Williams 1998). • 54. Negligence Of Negligence Falls Under Tort Law .0 Introduction Negligence is the failure to exercise due care or diligence that a reasonable or prudent man would exercise in similar circumstances. The law of negligence falls under tort law where it involves harm that is caused by carelessness and not intentional harm (Katter, 2002). A tort is a civil wrong that is in the form of a breach of duty, which amounts to legal remedy that is awarded in damages. Tort lawrests upon two principles that state that an act or omission by the defendant interferes with the rights of the plaintiff, which in turn causes damages (Trindade, 2007). Secondly, the interference caused by the defendant gives rise to a cause of action for damages that are as near as possible to the plaintiff s loss. Therefore, negligencecan be defined as doing something that a reasonable man would not have done in similar circumstances or failure to do what a reasonable man would have done which amounts to infliction of harm. 2.0 Background The main idea of the law of negligence is to ensure that people exercise reasonable care when they act by measuring the potential harm that may foreseeably cause harm to other people. Negligence is the principal trigger for liability to ascend in matters that deal with the loss of property of personal injury. Therefore, a person cannot be liable for something unless they have been found negligent or have contributed to the loss of property or injury to the plaintiff (Stuhmcke, 2005). There is more to ... • 55. Similarities Between Things Fall Apart” by Achebe and The... Essay Things Fall Apart The breakdown of African society has been steadily increasing through the last century and still continues to fall apart today as western civilization looks to extend it s way of life. There is striking similarities between the book Things Fall Apart written by Chinua Achebeand the poem The Second Coming written by William Butler Yeats, that is concerning the demise in some respect of the African culture. The two pieces of literature shows from the African peoples point of view of the disintegration of their culture and beliefs, with the assimilation of Christianity and their belief in a singular god. What leads us to question why so many African tribes would turn away form their culture and the way of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As time goes on the ideology of the Umofia clan changes to the point where it can no longer go back to the way they used to know which is in line with the poem that Surely some revelation is at hand; Surely the second coming is at hand. This also helps to associate the destruction of their way of life, and the changes that have occurred among them, as been one that is not totally accepted by everyone in Umofia. The village however is not totally against the Christians arrival as they have bring education for the people, hospitals, and a market that helps to increase the flow of money into the clan itself which also causes some to abandon their traditional African way of life. I feel that the poem and the novel help to capture the way some will feel among the new kinship between the traditional African society and the introduction of the white men . Some will embrace this change as they see benefit in the new relationship with education, health care, and profits. However some will not embrace the change among the tribe, as they see how this new friendship is causing destruction of their culture and way of life. This continuing struggle is still being waged among many African tribes today. To me these pieces of literature help capture the ongoing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Historical Accuracy Of Benjamin Martin In The Movie, The... Breaking news!Benjamin Martin is fake, I repeat, Benjamin Martin is fake! You might be wondering, who is Benjamin Martin? Well to start off, he is the main character in the movie, the Patriot. The patriot was a movie released in 2000 that is a parody of the Revolutionary War. The patriot is somewhat historically accurate because it portrays militia fighters, it has some hollywood differences, and it portrays what life was like back then. In the movie, Benjamin Martin is forced to become a Patriot when the British threaten to take his farm away. They actually burnt his house down. But according to http://www.patriotresource.com/thepatriot/factfiction/battles/cowpens.html , historically Benjamin Martin represents a lot... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bracelets claim to increase your ability to balance along with prolonging your stamina. Both claims are completely false and are not supported by any actual science. Despite having no real affect on your athletic ability hundreds of thousands of athletes purchased and wore these bracelets in the hopes their abilities would be heightened. . A large reason the Power Balance company has been so successful is due to the amount of celebrity athletes that wear and endorse their product. • 58. Analyzing Romare Bearden s The Family Khari Vanderbilt Mr.Inguito English 1C October 13, 2014 Romare Bearden s The Family (1941) The Family (1975) Comparisons Romare Bearden, a great artist that expresses many feelings throughout his photos. He expresses different types of feelings and meanings through colors, background, character demeanor, and even the posture of the characters in the picture. My favorite painting by Romare Bearden has to be The Family (1941) due to the fact that I had a personal connection to the picture. I never knew of Romare Bearden s other painting that related to this one which is The Family (1975). This is a similar picture but the family isn t as depressed as the family in the first picture. This family doesn t seem to be struggling and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His frustration is visible in the expression on his face. He appears tired of her bothering him about it, hence the hand. The child is showing a lot of white which can represent faith, I think the artist did this to say that the baby is giving the family faith because they are trying to provide for their child and in order to do that they need to be able to put food on the table which won t just only help the baby but them as a whole. The woman may also symbolize strength that s why the artist made her dress and lipstick red; she s fiery. She may help the husband maintain his sanity no matter how many problems they are going through as a family. In the second picture, The Family (1975), it seems as if it could be a picture of the same family but they are living a better life. In the previous picture they only had a slice of bread on the table; in this picture they have a whole table of food. It appears like they have a loaf a bread in which the man who is probably the father is cutting. The family also has plates and cups at the table, when in the previous picture; all they had was a plate and a fork. This may mean that the family has become more financially stable and are able to provide for the family that was once struggling. The colors in this picture are brighter and more joyful than the first picture. The first picture had dark colors such as dark blue, grey, black, which often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 59. The Issue Of Underage Drinking The issue of underage drinking has been constant for many years. The law for the minimum drinking age allows people 21 and older to legally drink alcoholic beverages. It is hard to enforce this law especially on college campuses where lots of underage drinking takes place. Someone that is 18 and older can get into some clubs where they are getting drinks even though they are not supposed to. There is a level of responsibility they needs to be taken when people are drinking. They should know how to handle themselves when alcohol is in their system. Consuming too many alcoholic beverages can cause health issues, behavior issues, and have other harmful effects on a person. The issues that come along with drinking alcohol will affect teenagers and college students more than it would affect someone that is 21 or older. The minimum drinking age law should remain at 21 to keep more young adults from encountering issues associated with drinking. Young adults that are in the age range of 18 20 are more likely to be more reckless than someone who is older and more mature. Adolescents hit the age of 18 and feel like they are grown and finally able to do what they want to do. Some have already started drinking alcohol and will start to drink it more frequently. Having alcohol in their systems will cause their behavior to change and could affect their rationale of thinking. Their senses will be affected as well which causes more accidental injuries, altercations, and driving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
