In the film The Wizard of Oz, the main character, Dorothy, comes to a realization that there is no place
like home. Dorothy yearns to go out to see the world when she first runs away, she wants something
better than she already has. After her journey in the land Oz fighting off of a Witch who is attacking
her at every chance she can, she then truly realizes how blessed and wonderful her life back in Kansas
really is. A good example of this in real life are lottery winners. There s a bunch of cases where lottery

This realization is important to the plot because it completes her heroine s journey throughout her

When researching southern culture I am often surprised by the similarities that helped to shape our

support the social class system, religion and, southern family relationships that we have been studying
in Southern Culture. We learned in class that the Southern culture contains a class system consisting

In a world full of success gurus and books about success, it becomes ever so more important to
describe the one quality that ultimately leads to success. This plague conquered the human minds and
pushed us, till we came up with the ideas to sell success guiding books and making money which
leads to successfulness. In the story, the house, in which Paul s family lives in, is personified to be
standing for more money: And so the house came to be haunted by the unspoken phrase: There must

particularly, within the therapeutic setting. It was refreshing to see that finally, within this chapter
these topics among other were finally being addressed in further depth than before. What was
particularly striking in this week s readings was the role of privilege and awareness.
In the article by Hernandez Wolfe and McDowell (2012), the idea to shift the focus on oppression to a
focus on privilege in counseling and psychology is imperative. After reading the article I find this
useful seeing that once this shift can be made, awareness of privilege and lack of privilege becomes
essential to help elicit action for change. Although it was mentioned that sometimes action is not
always achieved, the awareness piece is becoming increasingly important, especially in counseling
psychology. As mentioned in the article, moving from oppression, focused to privilege focused
reminded me a little of solution focused therapy. Focusing on the positives and strengths to elicit
