This was my third visit to my site. It was a Sunday and when I got to my site, I experience something
different this time. As I reached to the gate, the security person didn t stop me or note my car number
but he told me to proceed inside the temple. I get to the backside of parking lot of the temple. After
looking for a while, I found empty space to park my car. I parked my car and when I got out from my
car, I saw so many people from the parking lot were walking toward the temple. I was surprise seeing
the parking lot full of cars. As I start walking toward the temple, I saw one old woman look like age of
more than 70 was holding her son hand and hardly able to walk with the support of her son. Her son

There were people everywhere inside the temple. I saw that most of the male were wearing the white
cloths and female were wearing the Indian sari. There were two shoe racks (the shoe rack was in
room) in the Haweli one for female and another for male. People were waiting in line to take out their
shoes before go inside the main temple. The time was 11:45a.m. When i was waiting in the line to take
out my shoes before I go inside the main temple. I heard one guy, was wearing white clothes, long
beard, moustache, and U shape and red dot symbol on his forehead, saying his wife that hurry up the
temple will be closed in 15 minutes. I surprised hearing those words from that guy, I thought there are
so many people come here to pray the God and to see the God statue, why the temple will closed? The
temple was full of people because it was Sunday. All the religious programs happen at the temple on
Sunday because on Sunday most of the people have off from work so they can come with their whole
family.
After took out my shoes I start walking toward the main temple and I saw people were rushing to the
main temple. I saw one woman was carrying her child and was climbing the stairs so quickly. Her sari
was coming on her feet and once in rushing she almost fell but she still continued to get to the main
temple quickly. I thought why in the world she is in that much hurry, she was carrying her child, and

Essay about Alexander The Great
Alexander The Great was one of the greatest emperors and leaders of the world. In fact, he was the
only emperor to be called, quot; The Great. quot; He had studied under a great Greek Philosopher,
Aristotle, who taught Alexander literature, science, medicine, philosophy and to speak and write well.
Alexander was the son of Philip of Macedonia. Philip became king of Macedonia in 359 B.C., but
died in 336 B.C. He left his kingdom to Alexander.
Alexander ruled for only thirteen years but he succeeded far beyond what his father had planned. After
his father s death in 336 B.C., Alexander became king of Macedonia. He strengthened his claim of
king by quickly stopping revolts by Athens, which tried to break away from Macedonia, by destroying

In 332 B.C., Alexander first conquered Tyre, Gaza and then Egypt in 327 B.C.
In 331 B.C. Alexander defeated the main Persian army in Masopotamia. When the Persian king,
Darius, was killed by his own soldiers, Alexander declared himself king of Persia Alexander was
determined to conquer the whole world.
In 327 B.C., Alexander led his armies into India. Soon after that, the Macedonians refused to go
further and wanted to return to their homes and families because they had been fighting for six years.
Reluctantly, Alexander agreed to turn back. He arrived in Babylon in 323 B.C. but shortly caught a
fever and died. He was not yet 33 years old.
Alexander the Great admired Athens and the Greek culture so he brought many Greek ideas to the non
Greek people of his empire. He spread Greek civilization throughout wester Asia, and opened the east
to Greek trade. Alexander had a very open mind. He adopted ideas and customs from the people he
had conquered. He married a Persian princess and Persians served in his army. Wherever he
conquered lands, he made new cities. The most famous city he named Alexandria, in Egypt.
Greek civilization, after Alexander s death, is called the Hellenistic age. Hellenistic means quot;Greek

Social Injustice In Antigone
In our society filled with social injustice and violence, is it safe to protest unjust actions by the public?
As seen in many current events and fictional representations, the world around us still suffers many
social issues. When people are faced with injustice, every individual has the should protest and fight
for their rights, but not without considering the consequences.
Sophocles play Antigone is an example of when failing to consider the consequences can be fatal, as
seen in the actions of the character Antigone. In the prologue, when Antigone is telling Ismene her
plan to bury her brother against Creon s decree, she says, Ismene, I am going to bury him. Will you
come?...Creon is not strong enough to stand in my way (Sophocles, prologue). Antigone is unhappy
during the prologue and acts reckless, even when informed that the punishment is a public stoning in
the town square. Regardless of the punishment, Antigone is trying to protest Creon s decree without
considering the penalties that follow. Later in the book, when Antigone is being tried for violating
Creon s decree, she is disrespectful and quite rude to Creon, stating, This talking is a great weariness:
your words / Are distasteful to me (Sophocles, scene II). Her dialogue shows her lack of sensitivity
and respect towards Creon, which ultimately leads to her death. Her actions reflect the lack of
consideration of the consequences and it goes to show Antigone s bad judgment when protesting
Creon s decree.

Total Control Monopolies
Before answering why monopolies are discouraged by both state laws and federal laws. Important is
to know what the word monopolies means. Where one producer, or a group of producers, control the
supply of goods or service on the market. Additionally, the market is highly restricted and it is very
hard for other producers to enter. Firms that are defined as monopolist firms, keep their prices high
and restrict the output, so they can maximize their profits. They often have no responsiveness when it
comes to the needs of their customers. By preventing total control over the market, some governments
control the monopolies by having three important rules. First they impose a price control, second by
taking over their ownership, and thirdly by

1. The Commonwealth They Served
The weather was seasonally cold in Pennsylvania s Capitol late in 1914. On Sunday morning,
December 27, the temperature was 1 degree Fahrenheit. This reading was the lowest ever registered in
the last month of the year during the almost three decade history of the Harrisburg weather station.
Nevertheless, the cold did not dim the spirit of the holiday season as the Harrisburg Evening Telegraph
newspaper cheerfully proclaimed, Perfect Christmas Makes City Happy.
During that week, Governor John K. Tener, in the last month of his term, released a legislatively
mandated report that made history. The Report of the Economy and Efficiency Commission, for one
of the very few times in Pennsylvania s Chronicle, provided the public with a roster of all 5,152 state
employees. The release of this document was a key milestone in the Commonwealth s early 20th
century effort to improve its personnel management practices.
By listing names, this document provides an opportunity to recognize the often unheralded
contributions of selected state employees assigned to organizations under the general supervision of
the Governor. The register also affords an invaluable chance to appreciate how the offices, bureaus,
and divisions make Pennsylvania work. Researching their efforts brought to light a collective
commitment to assist the public. This attribute is a common virtue among Pennsylvania state
employees, both past and present. It is the one thing

Adam And Eve, The Flood, Abraham And Esau
Human Situation Lecture Paper Rough Draft Although God makes seemingly unfair choices in the
cases of Adam and Eve, the flood, Abraham and Isaac, and Jacob and Esau, these unfair decisions are
still justified because they serve God s greater purpose of creating the Israelites. God s first decision
that is unfair but still just was his judgement of Adam and Eve. Although Eve was the first to eat from
the tree of knowledge, when she gave some to [Adam] she neither persuades or forces him to eat as
well. He actively made a decision to eat the fruit even though God gave him the direct message not to
eat of [the tree] or touch of it (3.3). This would indicate that Adam is at least somewhat responsible for
his own part in disobeying God. Even though Adam does deserve some punishment, he decides to
shift all of the blame onto Eve who then shifts all of her blame onto the serpent. It is unfair that the
serpent is unable to defend himself at all but it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
God flooded the Earth because it had become corrupt [and] filled with lawlessness (6.11). He used this
flood as a tool for starting over because he regretted that He had made man on earth (6.6). God s first
covenant with man after the flood shows that the flood served a larger purpose of creating a more
conscientious mankind. God states as part of his first covenant that [he] will require a reckoning for
human life the word reckoning implies the God wants all humans to value each other s lives.
Additionally, God states whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed (9.6)
meaning, if one person harms another then they themselves will be killed in retribution. This
exemplifies God establishing the rules for a better and more just world after the

An Experimental Language Immersion Program
Introduction
In the 1960 s, Canada was a multi cultural environment, with both English and French speakers. Not
only were people speaking different languages, they had their own unique customs and practices that
went along with their culture. Parents of school age children convinced educators to test out an
experimental language immersion program. This program would facilitate learning of both the English
and French language, as well as the separate traditions and cultures of each. Programs like this are still
around today, teaching many different language combinations.
Elementary age children are put in a classroom to learn different skills, such as English, mathematics,
history, and reading. Is this a time when they should be learning another language as well? Studies
have been done on language immersion programs, both for English speakers as well as English
learners. Each program is unique, but most consist of a certain amount of time each day being taught
different subjects in their native language, and then being taught the remaining time in a different
language. The results show that bilingualism has had positive effects on the children.
In an article titled Primary students proficiency and achievement: The difference two way immersion
programs can make, it says, Overall, language majority students (referring to English speakers
learning a new language) in the two way immersion program significantly outperformed similar
students in a control school on

The Brown V. Board Of Education Essay
The Brown v. Board of Education was a case that was initiated by members of the local NAACP
(National association Advancement of Colored People) organization in Topeka, Kansas where thirteen
parents volunteered to participate of the segregation during school. Parents took their children to
schools in their neighborhoods in the summer of 1950 and attempted to enroll them for the upcoming
school year. All students were refused admission and were forced to attend one of the four schools in
the city for African Americans. For most parents and students, this involved traveling some distance
from their homes. These parents filed suit against the Topeka Board of Education on behalf of their
twenty children. Oliver Brown who was a minister, was the first parent to suit against the problem, so
the case came to be named after his last name. Three local lawyers, Charles Bledsoe, Charles Scott
and John Scott, were assisted by Robert Carter and Jack Greenberg from the NAACP Legal Defense
and Educational Fund. Oliver Brown had declared that Topeka s racial segregation violated the
Constitution s Equal Protection Clause because the city s black and white schools were not equal to
each other and never could be due to the way things were. The federal district court dismissed his
claim, ruling that the segregated public schools were substantially equal enough to be constitutional
under the Plessy case doctrine. Brown appealed to the Supreme Court, which made it more effective

The Perks Of Public Ownership
The Perks of Public Ownership The theories of why firms go public provide insight into why firms go
private because they examine many of the costs and benefits of being a public firm (Bharath; p6,
2009). Firms turn to listing for a number of different reasons. The motivations for an IPO tend to
differ across firms and countries, but in general, going public allows for enhanced external
monitoring, ability to raise capital for growth and acquisitions, increase in investor recognition, as
well as allowing a company to strengthen its bargaining power with creditors. Access to Capital One
of the main reasons that firms choose to list on public markets is so they can gain access to equity
capital. As Roell** puts forward, access to new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alongside this, Kim Weisbach** analysed numerous IPOs from over 38 countries, it was found that
almost all the firms they studied had raised substantial amounts of new capital from their IPOs (2008).
The cost of capital plays a large factor in this phenomenon. By listing themselves on the public
markets, the visibility of a firm increases, by using this status firms can create competition between
suppliers of finance, allowing the firm to negotiate private capital at more competitive rates, thereby
creating cheaper finance. Pagano** found that Italian firms executing an IPO would experience a
0.3% reduction in their cost of credit after they became public (2008). To highlight the point even
further, we can bring forward the situation of a single financing source that, as put forward by
Chemmanur et al, will be less than fully diversified, and will have considerably more bargaining
power relative to the entrepreneur (p269, 1999). Finally, this is supported by the Bancel et al study,
over half of the CFOs agree that the IPO has reinforced the firm s balance of power with bankers and
creditors (p863, 2009). Investor Recognition and Visibility As mentioned briefly in the prior
paragraph, the visibility of firms is elevated post listing, and this is another main factor as to why
firms go public. Not only does this act to lower the cost of capital, but as Stoughton et al** mention,
by going public the firm has

Steps that Lead to the Revolutionary War
Independence from Britain did not come easily. It took many years and battles to break off the
colonies from Britain. Many desires drove the colonies to a violent war, and it all started with the
following: In 1763, a peace treaty had just been signed. This was called the Peace of Paris which
ended a long series of costly conflicts between Britain and France during the French and Indian wars.
Because France had lost, they were forced to give all the American territory to Great Britain. After
Great Britain took control of the region, King George III did not want to fight another war in America
so he forbid colonial settlement on the western lands. This was called the Proclamation line of 1763.
This proclamation angered many colonies since they believed that a king who ruled across the ocean
could not determine the colonist needs and had no right to limit where they could settle. This was the
beginning of many troubles in the colonies. It was not until 1764 when Britain started to interfere with
the colonies. The colonies had some independence so they were not used to being told what to do.
Because the British government had gone in debt fighting France, they decided that the colonies had
to help pay for their own defense. To raise this money, parliament made a new law, sugar act. It
required payment of a tariff on imported items such as molasses, sugar, coffee and certain wines.
During this time, tariffs were used to regulate trade; however, the colonist felt this was just

The Argument For The Constitution Of The United States Essay
The Argument for the Constitution of the United States of America On July 3rd, 1776, the Second
Continental Congress unanimously declared the independence of the thirteen United States of America
from Great Britain. Determined to unify the thirteen colonies, the Continental Congress adopted the
Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union, the first constitution of the United States, on
November 15, 1777. However, ratification of the Articles of Confederation by all thirteen states did
not occur until March 1, 1781. Although the articles did not prevent the United States from winning
independence, the innate flaws of the articles became apparent in the years following the revolution.
The problems of the weak, purely legislative national government became too prevalent for agents of
the revolution, such as James Madison and George Washington. Madison and Washington were strong
supporters of a federal, or national, constitution, and on June 21, 1788, congress ratified the
Constitution of the United States. And in doing so, violated the Revolutionary Ideology and the will of
the American people.
The Revolutionary War effectively ended on October 17th, 1781. Having successfully won
independence, that task shifted to maintaining independence. The newly independent United States,
faced an array of issues, and proved to be anything but united under the existing Articles of
Confederation. In hindsight, analyzing the arguments against the articles, as well as the

The Heroes Of Beowulf And Malcolm X
Not every hero wears a cape or tights, nor do they all have superpowers. Being a hero does not mean
you have to be a crime fighter or a warrior. Heroism comes with the good that you do, and helping
people and wanting better for people are makes heroes. Heroism can range from big to small; a hero
can makes someone s day, or he or she can even make history. Heroes can be local or worldwide. A
hero could even be someone an individual looks up to as a role model. Heroes do not have to be well
known by everyone to be a hero. They could just be helping their community. Not every hero is the
same, and people may not agree on who is and who is not a hero. Heroes are what an individual makes
them to be. Although Beowulf and Malcolm X are people of different time eras, both men demonstrate
a variety of characteristics of a hero.
Starting as a warrior and later becoming the king, Beowulf left behind a legacy. Beowulf portrays
many traits of a hero. According to the Beowulf History Channel documentary, implies that he was a
superhuman (History Doc.). Beowulf was known as the strongest of the Geats (Beowulf 195).
According to the epic Beowulf, Beowulf was stronger than anyone anywhere (194). He was like no

battle.Beowulf was fearless. He voluntarily put himself in danger in order to protect his people and

Old Portugal
Origins: Traditional Holidays in Old Portugal Dating back to its establishment during the Middle
Ages, Carnaval finds its roots in the Catholic world. Considered a pre Lenten festival, Carnaval
developed as a final occasion for intimate pleasure and materialistic indulgent before Lenten
sacrifices. Moreover, the word carnaval is believed to derive from the phrase carne vale, meaning
farewell to flesh in Latin (Crowley 25:15). Influences from different Christmas traditions held in Old
Portugal are seen in Brazilian Carnaval, one of which is termed pastoril. In Brazil, Pastoril consists of
a group of men, also called cordoés, who dress up as various personalities and get together to sing
praises in front of a crib set. These characters include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still, Trinidad Carnival integrates different aspects of festivals celebrated in France, Spain, and
Britain. As early as the 1560 s, the French brought over the famous festival of Mardi Gras. During the
time before Ash Wednesday, French planters in Trinidad celebrated the ridding of their cares by
consuming alcohol, going to parties, and paying house to house visits. However, the masks used in
Mardi Gras were banned during the French Revolution. Similar to the French, Catholic Spaniards also
went from house to house singing and serenading friends during Christmastime (Liverpool 26 27).
Great Britain s influence on Trinidad Carnival is minimal. Most significant was the Trinidad Sentinel,

How Did Imperialism Cause Ww1
Militarism Militarism is when a country invests money in their military to increase its size and
strength. Germany began doing this before WWI which caused raised tensions throughout Europe as
well as some other countries militarizing too and when a country builds a new, big military they want
to use it. Nationalism Nationalism is the act of one loving their country and believing that it is superior
to all others. In turn this caused WWI because it was nationalism that caused the Black Hand to
assassinate Archduke Ferdinand, also it caused citizens to think that they would surely win due to their
superiority. Imperialism Imperialism is when a country goes out and gets colonies for resources and

The treaty was signed in the Palace of Versailles, outside of Paris, France, it redistributed borders,

a disorder that soldiers on the front lines acquired from being exposed to so many shockwaves from
the shelling going on around them. This would have caused the soldiers to lose control over their

promised all of these countries in the middle east region their own land and country to get them on
their side. However, when the war ended the English realized how hard it would be to follow through

Congress Dysfunctions
Dysfunction can be found within the U.S. government. For the purpose of this paper I will argue that
the dysfunction is largely rooted and caused by U.S. culture and also caused by the political system.
Furthermore, I will conclude that through the culmination of a dysfunctional culture the dysfunctions
found within the political system has resulted in a dysfunctional government. Congress currently has
the lowest approval rating they have ever had, however, the incumbent reelection rates are over 90%.
This points to a culture where cooperation and compromise are no longer the prime objective. People
expect their congressman to force their issue and not compromise on issues that may be contrary to
their beliefs. According to America s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, Wyoming has as many votes in the Senate as California. This disproportionate
representation allows for the rule of the minority. In a Democracy it seems entirely contrary to allow a
minority to influence the direction of the country, however, that is where we are at. In Madison s
Federalist 10, he expresses his concern for the rule of factions and also the rule of the minority. It
appears that through institutions like the Senate and the Electoral College we have allowed, to a
certain extent, the ability of minorities to sway major decisions. Furthermore, because of our
attachment to past institutions that at one point provided a certain service which has now become
completely arbitrary, we add to the rule of the minority. The Electoral College at one point provided a
service to the nation wherein people would vote their conscious if they felt the Republic was under
threat, however, this institution has become entirely arbitrary and unnecessary in the modern day. This
institution exhibits the diagnosis given in America in Decay wherein the institution has failed to adapt
to changing external circumstances. External circumstances pushed the Electoral College to become a
mouthpiece to the people s easily swayed minds. Arguably the Senate did not adapt well to external
circumstances as well. External forces pushed the Senate to become more democratic through the 17th

Argumentative Essay On Homeless Children
Compelling Statement: Homelessness affects people of all age groups, however, youth are especially
affected because ever since they were born, they would rely on their family for basic necessities. On
their own, they barely have the income or education to provide themselves with necessities to survive.
This issue is even more prominent with homeless youth who struggle from mental health issues.
Homeless youth who struggle with mental health face the struggle of seeking help for their illness
while simultaneously trying to survive in the world with no parental guidance to aid them through
their journey. While there is no cure to many mental illnesses, and homelessness is not an issue that is
easily resolved, my aim is to try to alleviate the situation. It is very hard for youth in general to seek
help regarding mental health especially with a certified health professional. My hope is to try to find
some other method that may help someone in need who lacks the proper recourses to get the help that
they rightfully deserve. Annotations: Covenant House. Facts Stats. Facts and Stats | Canada s Largest

Argumentative Essay About Bridgeport
It was November 2013. I don t want to go to High School in Bridgeport. I remember telling my mom.

it is important to water only at the base of the plant. If the plants don t have enough air circulation or

How Stress Affects Memory
Memory is the internal representation of an event or experience and is a constructive process that
organizes and shapes information. Memory allows people to learn from personal experiences and learn
to adapt and respond to the changing environment. Memory plays a critical role in learning processes.
Memory allows for information storage and retrieval of information previously learned. Memory and
learning are interdependent in that memory exists because of previous learning, and learning needs
memory to create connections and build upon learned knowledge. Research confirms that acute stress

Democratic Republic Of Congo Essay
Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is considered a weak state because of its severe instability as a
country. Ethnic, political, and religious conflicts are perceived over the state s identity, and has
suffered decades of undemocratic military rule and the possible genocide. They struggle with severe
poverty, and the government has little interest in actually providing the country with laws to follow.
The government is the weakest part of the state. They have shown to be corrupt from the beginning.
DRC has never existed as a sovereign, unified political entity. Established by a stroke of a pen in 1885
at the Berlin Conference, The Congo Free State was a forced labor scheme developed by King

at Obama s first term in office is important because it sets up his second term where he truly starts
looking at Cuba and this idea of normalizing relations starts to take shape. The strength of Obama s
political agenda during his first term was wavering and Obama was truly focused on domestic issues
and domestic reforms following the Bush Administration. Obama was mainly focused on ending the
Iraq War and handling the bailouts and other reforms that got implemented as soon as he entered
office. Foreign policy, for the most part, was pushed to the back burner for Obama s first term. Obama
ran on domestic reform and that is what he tried to do. The Arab Spring was an event which made
Obama look more into foreign policy and he had deal with the fallout of that towards the end of his
first term and the beginning of his second one. Arab Spring and Obama s handling of it made his first
term tricky and challenging. Obama s first term in office was marked by political, economic, and
social problems following the global financial crisis and therefore could not focus as much on foreign
policy but when Obama did look at foreign policy and what he wanted to accomplish as President
during his first term, he was mainly focused on reversing the trends as established by Bush in the

Why It Is Important to Reduce Emissions Caused by Carbon...
The issue of Global climate change is one of the utmost economic, social, and environmental
challenges of this century. Analysis shows that greenhouse gas emissions are responsible for changes
in the pattern of climate around the Globe. Global pollution creates a public bad born by all a negative
externality with a wide impact (M.Harris, 2002).
Australia is considered to be the driest populated continent in the world and faces stern drought and
water shortages. Reducing carbon emissions is challenging for Australia, although the Government
realizes that meeting this challenge is important and commits to reducing the level of pollution caused
by greenhouse gases in Australia, and voluntarily preparing for an altered climate in the ... Show more

The Government aims to reduce emissions to 60% lower than 2000 levels by 2050, and its medium
term target ranges between 5 and 15% below 2000 levels by 2020. According to the government,
Australia needs to reach an universal agreement so that atmospheric contents of greenhouse gases can
be stabilized at around 450 parts per million of CO2E (Carbon Dioxide Equivalent). The government
has realized that to achieve this global commitment with such action is going to be challenging in the
future. The medium term targets set by Australia are quite similar to that of many other countries that
have announced their targets. For example: the European Union (Pope, 2009).
The working of the ETS is mainly based on emitters of any six greenhouse gases who acquire a permit
for each tonne of gas they emit. There is monitoring, reporting and auditing done on the total amount
of emissions the industries produce. During the end of every financial year, each firm surrenders a
permit for each tonne of emissions they produced during that year. Limited amounts of permits are
issued by the Government every year and entities compete to buy the amount of permits they need.
The permits are mostly auctioned or traded in the secondary market and firms who consider the
permits of high value pay a lot for them. Reducing emissions than buying permits is a convenient
choice for smaller firms. Few other firms are allocated free

In fact, he was the only emperor to be called, quot; The Great. quot; He had studied under a great Greek Philosopher, Aristotle, who taught Alexander literature, science, medicine, philosophy and to speak and write well. Alexander was the son of Philip of Macedonia. Philip became king of Macedonia in 359 B.C., but died in 336 B.C. He left his kingdom to Alexander. Alexander ruled for only thirteen years but he succeeded far beyond what his father had planned. After his father s death in 336 B.C., Alexander became king of Macedonia. In 332 B.C., Alexander first conquered Tyre, Gaza and then Egypt in 327 B.C. In 331 B.C. Alexander defeated the main Persian army in Masopotamia. When the Persian king, Darius, was killed by his own soldiers, Alexander declared himself king of Persia Alexander was determined to conquer the whole world. In 327 B.C., Alexander led his armies into India. Soon after that, the Macedonians refused to go further and wanted to return to their homes and families because they had been fighting for six years. Reluctantly, Alexander agreed to turn back. He arrived in Babylon in 323 B.C. but shortly caught a fever and died. He was not yet 33 years old. Alexander the Great admired Athens and the Greek culture so he brought many Greek ideas to the non Greek people of his empire. • 5. Social Injustice In Antigone In our society filled with social injustice and violence, is it safe to protest unjust actions by the public? As seen in many current events and fictional representations, the world around us still suffers many social issues. When people are faced with injustice, every individual has the should protest and fight for their rights, but not without considering the consequences. Sophocles play Antigone is an example of when failing to consider the consequences can be fatal, as seen in the actions of the character Antigone. In the prologue, when Antigone is telling Ismene her plan to bury her brother against Creon s decree, she says, Ismene, I am going to bury him. Will you come?...Creon is not strong enough to stand in my way (Sophocles, prologue). Antigone is unhappy during the prologue and acts reckless, even when informed that the punishment is a public stoning in the town square. Regardless of the punishment, Antigone is trying to protest Creon s decree without considering the penalties that follow. Later in the book, when Antigone is being tried for violating Creon s decree, she is disrespectful and quite rude to Creon, stating, This talking is a great weariness: your words / Are distasteful to me (Sophocles, scene II). Her dialogue shows her lack of sensitivity and respect towards Creon, which ultimately leads to her death. Her actions reflect the lack of consideration of the consequences and it goes to show Antigone s bad judgment when protesting Creon s decree. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Total Control Monopolies Before answering why monopolies are discouraged by both state laws and federal laws. Important is to know what the word monopolies means. Where one producer, or a group of producers, control the supply of goods or service on the market. Additionally, the market is highly restricted and it is very hard for other producers to enter. Firms that are defined as monopolist firms, keep their prices high and restrict the output, so they can maximize their profits. They often have no responsiveness when it comes to the needs of their customers. By preventing total control over the market, some governments control the monopolies by having three important rules. First they impose a price control, second by taking over their ownership, and thirdly by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The United States Essay 1. The Commonwealth They Served The weather was seasonally cold in Pennsylvania s Capitol late in 1914. On Sunday morning, December 27, the temperature was 1 degree Fahrenheit. This reading was the lowest ever registered in the last month of the year during the almost three decade history of the Harrisburg weather station. Nevertheless, the cold did not dim the spirit of the holiday season as the Harrisburg Evening Telegraph newspaper cheerfully proclaimed, Perfect Christmas Makes City Happy. During that week, Governor John K. Tener, in the last month of his term, released a legislatively mandated report that made history. The Report of the Economy and Efficiency Commission, for one of the very few times in Pennsylvania s Chronicle, provided the public with a roster of all 5,152 state employees. The release of this document was a key milestone in the Commonwealth s early 20th century effort to improve its personnel management practices. By listing names, this document provides an opportunity to recognize the often unheralded contributions of selected state employees assigned to organizations under the general supervision of the Governor. The register also affords an invaluable chance to appreciate how the offices, bureaus, and divisions make Pennsylvania work. Researching their efforts brought to light a collective commitment to assist the public. This attribute is a common virtue among Pennsylvania state employees, both past and present. • 8. Adam And Eve, The Flood, Abraham And Esau Human Situation Lecture Paper Rough Draft Although God makes seemingly unfair choices in the cases of Adam and Eve, the flood, Abraham and Isaac, and Jacob and Esau, these unfair decisions are still justified because they serve God s greater purpose of creating the Israelites. God s first decision that is unfair but still just was his judgement of Adam and Eve. Although Eve was the first to eat from the tree of knowledge, when she gave some to [Adam] she neither persuades or forces him to eat as well. He actively made a decision to eat the fruit even though God gave him the direct message not to eat of [the tree] or touch of it (3.3). This would indicate that Adam is at least somewhat responsible for his own part in disobeying God. Even though Adam does deserve some punishment, he decides to shift all of the blame onto Eve who then shifts all of her blame onto the serpent. It is unfair that the serpent is unable to defend himself at all but it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. An Experimental Language Immersion Program Introduction In the 1960 s, Canada was a multi cultural environment, with both English and French speakers. Not only were people speaking different languages, they had their own unique customs and practices that went along with their culture. Parents of school age children convinced educators to test out an experimental language immersion program. This program would facilitate learning of both the English and French language, as well as the separate traditions and cultures of each. Programs like this are still around today, teaching many different language combinations. Elementary age children are put in a classroom to learn different skills, such as English, mathematics, history, and reading. Is this a time when they should be learning another language as well? Studies have been done on language immersion programs, both for English speakers as well as English learners. Each program is unique, but most consist of a certain amount of time each day being taught different subjects in their native language, and then being taught the remaining time in a different language. The results show that bilingualism has had positive effects on the children. In an article titled Primary students proficiency and achievement: The difference two way immersion programs can make, it says, Overall, language majority students (referring to English speakers learning a new language) in the two way immersion program significantly outperformed similar students in a control school on ... • 10. The Brown V. Board Of Education Essay The Brown v. Board of Education was a case that was initiated by members of the local NAACP (National association Advancement of Colored People) organization in Topeka, Kansas where thirteen parents volunteered to participate of the segregation during school. Parents took their children to schools in their neighborhoods in the summer of 1950 and attempted to enroll them for the upcoming school year. All students were refused admission and were forced to attend one of the four schools in the city for African Americans. For most parents and students, this involved traveling some distance from their homes. These parents filed suit against the Topeka Board of Education on behalf of their twenty children. Oliver Brown who was a minister, was the first parent to suit against the problem, so the case came to be named after his last name. Three local lawyers, Charles Bledsoe, Charles Scott and John Scott, were assisted by Robert Carter and Jack Greenberg from the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. Oliver Brown had declared that Topeka s racial segregation violated the Constitution s Equal Protection Clause because the city s black and white schools were not equal to each other and never could be due to the way things were. The federal district court dismissed his claim, ruling that the segregated public schools were substantially equal enough to be constitutional under the Plessy case doctrine. Brown appealed to the Supreme Court, which made it more effective and then ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Perks Of Public Ownership The Perks of Public Ownership The theories of why firms go public provide insight into why firms go private because they examine many of the costs and benefits of being a public firm (Bharath; p6, 2009). Firms turn to listing for a number of different reasons. The motivations for an IPO tend to differ across firms and countries, but in general, going public allows for enhanced external monitoring, ability to raise capital for growth and acquisitions, increase in investor recognition, as well as allowing a company to strengthen its bargaining power with creditors. Access to Capital One of the main reasons that firms choose to list on public markets is so they can gain access to equity capital. As Roell** puts forward, access to new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alongside this, Kim Weisbach** analysed numerous IPOs from over 38 countries, it was found that almost all the firms they studied had raised substantial amounts of new capital from their IPOs (2008). The cost of capital plays a large factor in this phenomenon. By listing themselves on the public markets, the visibility of a firm increases, by using this status firms can create competition between suppliers of finance, allowing the firm to negotiate private capital at more competitive rates, thereby creating cheaper finance. Pagano** found that Italian firms executing an IPO would experience a 0.3% reduction in their cost of credit after they became public (2008). To highlight the point even further, we can bring forward the situation of a single financing source that, as put forward by Chemmanur et al, will be less than fully diversified, and will have considerably more bargaining power relative to the entrepreneur (p269, 1999). Finally, this is supported by the Bancel et al study, over half of the CFOs agree that the IPO has reinforced the firm s balance of power with bankers and creditors (p863, 2009). Investor Recognition and Visibility As mentioned briefly in the prior paragraph, the visibility of firms is elevated post listing, and this is another main factor as to why firms go public. Not only does this act to lower the cost of capital, but as Stoughton et al** mention, by going public the firm has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Many desires drove the colonies to a violent war, and it all started with the following: In 1763, a peace treaty had just been signed. This was called the Peace of Paris which ended a long series of costly conflicts between Britain and France during the French and Indian wars. Because France had lost, they were forced to give all the American territory to Great Britain. After Great Britain took control of the region, King George III did not want to fight another war in America so he forbid colonial settlement on the western lands. This was called the Proclamation line of 1763. This proclamation angered many colonies since they believed that a king who ruled across the ocean could not determine the colonist needs and had no right to limit where they could settle. This was the beginning of many troubles in the colonies. It was not until 1764 when Britain started to interfere with the colonies. The colonies had some independence so they were not used to being told what to do. Because the British government had gone in debt fighting France, they decided that the colonies had to help pay for their own defense. To raise this money, parliament made a new law, sugar act. It required payment of a tariff on imported items such as molasses, sugar, coffee and certain wines. The Argument For The Constitution Of The United States Essay The Argument for the Constitution of the United States of America On July 3rd, 1776, the Second Continental Congress unanimously declared the independence of the thirteen United States of America from Great Britain. Determined to unify the thirteen colonies, the Continental Congress adopted the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union, the first constitution of the United States, on November 15, 1777. However, ratification of the Articles of Confederation by all thirteen states did not occur until March 1, 1781. Although the articles did not prevent the United States from winning independence, the innate flaws of the articles became apparent in the years following the revolution. The problems of the weak, purely legislative national government became too prevalent for agents of the revolution, such as James Madison and George Washington. Madison and Washington were strong supporters of a federal, or national, constitution, and on June 21, 1788, congress ratified the Constitution of the United States. And in doing so, violated the Revolutionary Ideology and the will of the American people. The Revolutionary War effectively ended on October 17th, 1781. Obama was mainly focused on ending the Iraq War and handling the bailouts and other reforms that got implemented as soon as he entered office. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Government aims to reduce emissions to 60% lower than 2000 levels by 2050, and its medium term target ranges between 5 and 15% below 2000 levels by 2020. According to the government, Australia needs to reach an universal agreement so that atmospheric contents of greenhouse gases can be stabilized at around 450 parts per million of CO2E (Carbon Dioxide Equivalent). The government has realized that to achieve this global commitment with such action is going to be challenging in the future. The medium term targets set by Australia are quite similar to that of many other countries that have announced their targets. For example: the European Union (Pope, 2009). The working of the ETS is mainly based on emitters of any six greenhouse gases who acquire a permit for each tonne of gas they emit. There is monitoring, reporting and auditing done on the total amount of emissions the industries produce. During the end of every financial year, each firm surrenders a permit for each tonne of emissions they produced during that year. Limited amounts of permits are issued by the Government every year and entities compete to buy the amount of permits they need. The permits are mostly auctioned or traded in the secondary market and firms who consider the permits of high value pay a lot for them.
