Human Control In Gerald Barrax s To Waste At Trees
Industrial and urban development destroy, modify, or degrade natural habitat (Ray 16). The theme of
fragmentation, as described and qualified by author Janisse Ray, is a prevalent element in her text,
Pinhook. Specifically, in this quote from the book, the theme of fragmentation and the divisions that
result from the methods of human control over nature are apparent, like the work of the corporate
sector of the economy. The formation of an economy, the production of goods and services, and a
hierarchical system of employment are purely human creations and the ultimate representation of
human influence and control. Applying this idea to Ray s work and to specific ideas concerning how
the environment and the corporate world interact with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indigenous people, the whistleblowers in this situation, exposing the pollution and destruction of the
environment that they see around them, are very committed to and believe strongly in the protection of
and the blessings of nature. They are an example of complicating evidence to the binary about
dominance and submission: it is not all people who exact their dominance and their dangerous
economic practices on nature, it is singularly the people who are using and abusing nature as a part of
their economic growth and development. Ultimately, people who become protectors of the land, and
who fight against the ways of the economically strong will be nature s answer to resisting human
domination. Industry relies heavily on natural resources, and so when the humans of the world do not
allow industry to exploit nature for their own gain, the binary between dominance and submission
surrounding the actions of humans will be

Effects Of Parental Investment On Children
Parental investment includes any investment by the parent in an individual offspring that increases the
offspring s chances of survival, at the cost of the parent s ability to invest in other offspring (Travier,
1972). Since investing on themselves is as important as investing on their children, parents have to
choose between caring for a child and acquiring the resources needed to insure their own productive
and reproductive successes (Turner McAndrew, 2006). This choice can be influenced by the social,
cultural and economic factors at household level, and by socio demographic factors at individual level.
These factors may vary from culture to culture and overtime. However, the following variables are the
most frequently cited determinants of parental investment on children.
i) Gender; the gender of the parent is the most widely reported determinant of parent`s willingness to
invest on children. This is mentioned across disciplines, from biology through social anthropology,
with similar conclusions but different explanations. There is consensus that the gender identity of the
parent through which income is received determines how the resources are invested on child welfare.
Studies (Agarwal, 1997; Kabeer, 2000) indicated that income injected into the household through the
mother do more justice to the welfare of children compared to resources injected through the father.
Similarly, an exogenous increase in mothers income has a larger effect on children`s outcomes than

Safety and Effectiveness of Low-Carbohydrate Diets Essays
Although low fat, low calorie diet has always been the gold standard of weight loss, low carbohydrate
diet cannot be dismissed. However, despite its popularity, low carbohydrate diet s safety and
effectiveness continue to be subject of debates. It was not until recently that low carbohydrate diet is
properly studied due to the difficulty of measuring adherence and the high rates of drop outs. This
article will review six original reports done on low carbohydrate diet. It will analyse the effectiveness
of low carbohydrate diet over short and longer period of time as well as its effects on metabolism,
coronary heart disease risk factors, glucose tolerance and psychological aspects. Westman, Yancy,
Edman, Tomlin, and Perkins s (2002) did a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also found that low carbohydrate diet has more favourable improvement in some factors of
coronary heart disease, such as serum triglycerides and serum high density lipoprotein (HDL)
cholesterol, but not on others, such as blood pressure, low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and
insulin sensitivity (Foster et al., 2003). The strength of this research is that it comprises of various
coronary heart disease risks. This result however may not be reliable as the sample is small and the
attrition level is forty three per cent. As subjects used were obese individuals that had no serious
health disease, their findings cannot be generalised for overweight and obese individuals with serious
health disease. HPLC diet was also tested on severely obese adolescents, aged twelve to eighteen
(Krebs, Gao, Gralla, Collins, Johnson, 2010). Similar to previous findings, they found that HPLC diet
has significantly greater reduction in Body Mass Index compared to low fat diet without any adverse
effects for up to twenty four weeks before it diminishes. Therefore, Krebs et al. (2010) concluded that
HPLC is a safe and effective option for treatment of severe obesity in adolescent. This result, though,
should not be generalised as the sample is small and exclusion of children with poor family supports,
various health diseases and disorders may affect result. In addition, high drop outs rate may also affect
result. On the other hand, since the

Essay Two I felt a Funeral, in my Brain
1. Part One
Solitary: Deprived of the company of others; the state of being alone; a reference to solitary
confinement (solitary). The use of the word solitary in line 16 illustrates how although people have
been described as taking part in the funeral, they do not relate or understand her. Although there are
others around her, there is no communication between them. She is described as wrecked in the same
line that solitary is used, showing the reader that her state of isolation is due to her being damaged her

World: A state or realm of existence, often used in reference to human existence on Earth or in
reference to Heaven and Hell; A person s normal or habitual sphere of though (world). In the poem,
world is used in the introduction of a new state. In this sense, the word World has many
interpretations. Through implementation of the metaphor, made at the beginning of the poem, between
a person s descent into insanity and a funeral, we can look at the use of world in two different ways. In
one sense, world is referring to ones state of mental stability and the change from the state of sanity to
insanity. In another sense world is referring to leaving the realm of human existence on earth and
arriving at the afterlife. The worlds that the afterlife inhabits, Heaven and Hell, are both referenced;
Heaven being mention in line 13 and Hell being referenced by the use of the words dropped in
describing the transition between Earth and the afterlife.

The Pros And Cons Of UNICEF
Unmistakably, innumerable world events have set the stage for a multitude of moments of peace,
liberty, and justice throughout the globe that have been long awaited for extensive periods of time. The
key formula of momentous changes throughout history have not only been political decisions, but also
the commonly associated aspect of warfare. Together, these often chaotic melting pots of policy and
conflict have paved the way for ending extensive moments of injustice and hardship while also
toppling the authoritative rule of brute dictators such as Adolf Hitler. However, quite commonly the
long fought pathways towards victory and sequential freedom leaves behind a long tail of destruction
and chaos often paid for in the cost of lives, limbs, damaged societies and post traumatic stress
disorder. On the positive side, however, what these long fought battles sometimes give birth to are
organizations and policies that emphasize the necessity of not only preserving peace, but also aiding
those commonly negatively impacted by those moments of disorder and chaos. A great example of an

Trotsky Vs Stalin
After Lenin s death in January of 1924, it became apparent that a power struggle between Trotsky and
Stalin had already long been brewing and would soon become far greater. Stalin had quite a different
background than both Trotsky and Lenin. Lyons had explained that Stalin had come from a different
background than Trotsky and Lenin, one where he had never even left Russia. His background largely
contributed to his varying perceptions of Russia and its regime, along with his approach as to how he
would come to power. Lyons wrote, He believed that the Communists had enough to do in Russia
itself. Stalin not only headed the the Secretariat as general secretary but led the Organizational Bureau
as well, which gave him control over the party machinery and personnel (Lyons, 2016, pg. 31). As the
notes about the interwar period had stated, Stalin was rather calculating and had conceived a strategy
that would allow for him to gain control of the state. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After doing so, in 1929 Trotsky had lost his position of power. This would in turn lead to Trotsky
fleeing to Mexico and eventually succumbing to his death, as ordered by Stalin. After doing so, Lyons
wrote, Stalin now felt strong enough to launch a massive program to nationalize the economy and
transform Russia into a first class industrial power as quickly as possible. He decided to bring the
entire economy under state control by nationalizing all industry and abolishing private ownership of
land in favor of a system of collectivization (Lyons, 2016, pg. 31). Stalin immediately began to
implement new policies while abolishing the old

The Computer Science Of Robots
I have had a deep interest in hands on actives since I was a young boy. Through the Computer science
class last year I was introduced to coding. This year all of my loves found a single form, this form is
called Robotics. Robotics is the science of robots, you create robots, then program them what to do.
This helps the world by making new house hold robots that could do your laundry, or do your dishes,
the possibilities are endless. Household inventions are not the only things that robotics help, DARPA
(Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) hosts annual competitions that show case the new and
most useful military robots. These robots can open doors and complete complicated tasks in a short
period of time. Robots come in different shapes and sizes, I will be the one that is engineering the
newest and best robots in the future, but first I must know WHAT MATH IS IN MY CAREER. Most
Robotics engineers have fair amounts of money and live comfortably. The hourly rates for robotics
engineers range from $24.72 to $70.76. Depending on how many hours one works, they make
between $51,410 to $147,190 a year. The wages also vary between field and practices, the fields
include; Industrial, Domestic/household, Service, Military, Entertainment, Space, and
Hobby/competitions. All of these fields have different levels of pay and different tasks and schooling
required. If I want to live around Tahoe city the average living prices are a lot steeper then other

Patrick Henry
Patrick Henry was an interesting man. From raising every single one of
his seventeen kids to this famous speech that he gave, Give me liberty, or give me
death!, he proved himself to be a loyal and trustworthy citizen. He also played a
pretty big role in the war for Independence. His early life, reasons to join the war,
role in the war, and his life after the war, all show what an amazing and important
man he truly was.
Patrick Henry lived a pretty normal life in his youth and here are a few
examples to what actually happened in his early life. According to

As governor, Henry helped the revolution in numerous ways. He
helped supply soldiers and equipment for George Washington. He also sent Virginia
troops commanded by George Rogers Clark to drive out British forces in the
northwest. After three terms as governor, Henry left the post in 1779.
Patrick Henry did just so happen to survive the war. For instance,
Biography.com Editors write that in 1790, he left public service and returned to being
a lawyer. He lived with his second wife,Dorothea, and every one of his seventeen
kids. The first six kids he had came from his first marriage with a woman named,
Sarah Shelton, while the rest came from his second marriage with Dorothea. Henry
spent his last years at his estate, called RedHill, in Charlotte County, Virginia. At the
urging of his friend, George Washington,Henry fought for a seat in the Virginia
legislature. He won the post, but he didn t live long enough to serve. He died on June
6, 1799, at his Red Hill home.
Even though Patrick Henry had a pretty ordinary childhood it eventually led up
to his importance during the Revolutionary War. All of these things, his early life, his

Petroleum And Natural Gas Exploration Essay
Executive Summary
April 20, 2010 was the beginning of the end for British Petroleum. BP was started in 1901 by William
Knox D Arcy. Their mission is to operate oil and natural gas exploration, while marketing and
distributing all over the globe. The primary issues the company faces are rebuilding their business
after the tragic oil spill, their low oil prices and internal leadership promotions. Following the 2010 oil
spill, all of BP s top executives were fired, and the company has continued to promote internally, as
recent as February of 2016. The company has been trying to rebrand itself and fix its disastrous public
image that resulted from the poorly handled oil spill. Due to these internal promotions, no new ideas
have been introduced into the company and their efforts in recreating themselves have since stalled,
leading to unmotivated employees and decreased profits. Although British Petroleum has solid
production sites in Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, and various areas of the U.S, the brand s name remains so
tainted from past violations. The declining price of oil, along with that environmental factors that
affect the company, both nationally and globally, have exacerbated this stall and caused the company a
major issue in recovering their public image, reputation, brand name, stock prices, and overall
prosperity. These factors have certainly not been beneficial to the company in recovering from the
sixty one billion dollars BP has had to pay as result of

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Hiv ) And The Acquired...
Introduction The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and the Acquired Immune Deficiency
Syndrome (AIDS) do not seem to be a major topic of discussion in the World today. Especially within
the United States, HIV and AIDS are not conversed about as openly as perhaps it was in the past two
decades. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at the end of 2010 there
were approximately 1.1 million people living in the United States with the HIV virus. Of those 1.1
million people, about 16% did not even know they were infected (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention [CDC], 2010). Each year there are approximately 50,000 new HIV infections within the
United States (CDC, 2010). Within the 50,000 new cases of HIV infection, the elderly population is
the fastest growing segment within the United States (Sankar, Nevedal, Neufedl, Berry, Luborsky,
2011, p.2). By 2015, adults who are ages 50 and older will make up approximately 50% of all
HIV/AIDS cases in the United States (Effros, Fletcher, Gebo, Courtney, Halter, Hazzard, High, 2008,
p. 542). With the increasing number of HIV/AIDS infections, the demand for prescription drug
cocktails has increased. Half of the population diagnosed with HIV/AIDS does not receive regular
health care (CDC, 2010). Due to this there are a huge economic impact on the U.S. When it comes to
the cost of medication and treatment, many patients are not able to afford the inflated prices,

He believes that the University of Michigan s system of admission does use race as a preference.
When Barbara Grutter applied to law school Cohen saw that her chances of getting in were way below
that of minorities. In an interview with Ed Bradley, Cohen shows the Law school admission records
from 1995 show these shocking statistics:
Here, 51 applications, one admit; 61 applications, one admit; 2 percent, 3 percent chance of getting in.
Not easy. That was for Caucasian Americans. That s their word language; not mine. This is their sheet.
And they prepared another sheet for African Americans. Same cells, same scores: 10 applicants, 10
admits; five applications, five admits. One hundred percent, instead of 2 percent opportunity, which is
what the case is for whites. A hundred percent for blacks. It oh, come on. (Bradley)
In 1995, Cohen read an article pointing out that the acceptance rates of blacks at many major
universities was higher than that of whites. So, he asked the University of Michigan for information
regarding these claims. The university told him that information was confidential. Cohen had to use
the Freedom of Information Act to get the documents he wanted. The documents he found were rather
startling. They showed that the University of Michigan was use race as a preference in admission to

What Are The Rules Of Phonology
Rules of Phonology
The easiest way to understand what the rules of phonology are for is that it translates phonemes to the
real sounds, called allophones. Whatever we utter or produce using our vocal chords are allophones,
which has physical entities to it. While, phonemes are what is received by the listener that has mental
entities and are representative. The classes of phonemes that are bound to these rules are: voiced
consonants, rounded vowels, nasals, sibilants and etc. The existence of variations in every language
makes the phonological rules important to maintain recognizable words. Therefore, the rules of
phonology are used to show the patterns of distribution of sounds in a particular language which might
vary in different languages. In the rules of phonology, there are several feature changing rules that
change the value of a certain component feature of a sound. For example, the feature of a sound could
change from non nasal to nasal or from short to long. Presumably, different languages have different
rules, but some are very common in every language. Among these feature changing rules are
assimilation rules. Assimilation can be defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among them is the voicing assimilation, which can be defined as the originally voiceless sound
picked up the feature voiced from another sound. For example, the word roses is pronounced as

feature changes in assimilation. On the contrary of voicing, the voiced sound picked up the voiceless
feature of another sound which reportedly common when speakers pronounced the phrase have to .
Originally in English, the have ends with the voiced phoneme / v/, [hæːv t ͪ uː] and the word to begins

Thesis For Hamlet Essay
Literary Thesis Essay William Shakespeare has changed the way that many people have viewed plays
and literature throughout his life and is still carrying that legacy to this day. This is most prominent in
his famous tragedy, Hamlet, which is still analyzed for its success as a renowned classic. The story is
about a prince named Hamlet who meets his Father s ghost and learns of their murder by his uncle.
The story continues by depicting Hamlet s revenge and his falling into madness. Hamlet illustrates
masterful uses of literary devices in the use of euphemisms, imagery, and similes to create an
interesting tragedy that changed the outlook on literature as a whole. Shakespeare has indisputable
skill in mastery over literary devices that shape themselves into an heart wrenching masterpiece.
Euphemisms form excellent literature by provoking thoughtful insight within texts to decipher what
would otherwise be seen as blunt or obvious. In hamlet, the euphemism, For thought and the trifling of
his favor, Hold it a fashion and a toy in blood, A violet in the youth of primy nature, (Act 1, Scene 3,
ln. 5 7) plays on Hamlet s attitude, hinting to ideas much more vile than what is initially spoken. This
allows for readers to interpret Hamlet in varying senses. The quote, I saw him enter such a house of
sale videlicet a brothel, or so forth... (Act 2, Scene 1, ln. 61 62) utilizes phrasing to avoid the use of
less appetizing words. This helps in the aid to avoid blunt terms and add

Abusive Domestic Relationship Defence
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics half of the female victims of domestic violence
experience more than one incident of abuse (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2013). In Queensland
using spousal abuse as a defence to murder can be problematic for female defendants who kill their
abusers. Jurors in most cases relating to spousal abuse tend to find the act of pre emptive killing in self
defence not justifiable. Queensland s Criminal Code should be amended to allow the Abusive
Domestic Relationship Defence to be used as a full defence. This can be proven as victims of violence
tend to lack the ability to make logical decisions; individuals feel a case of entrapment and the victim
signals violence and acts before the onset of abuse. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In R v. Runjanjic and Kontinnen (1991), Chief Justice King explained the effects of Battered Woman
Syndrome ; a theory which is used to invoke why women kill their abusive partners their (women)
reactions and responses differ from those which might be expected by persons who lack the advantage
of an acquaintance (Lenore Walker, 2012). Walker argues that the syndrome would influence the
abused individual to make decisions which appear illogical to a typical person. A common person
would leave an abusive relationship rather than kill for self preservation, whilst the syndrome would
influence the victim to kill. In the case R v. Runjanjic and Kontinnen (1991) the loss of this ability is
clear as the defendant s lawyer claimed , Though she doesn t consciously remember her decision
making process, Kontinnen grabbed a shotgun and shot Hill in the back of the head (Bradfield, 2011).
The fact that Kontinnen cannot remember what caused her to make the decision to kill the deceased
displays the effect violence has had on her mental health. Defendants using the defence of Killing for
preservation in an abusive relationship should have the opportunity for a full acquittal, as their
damaged mind takes control of their decision

Persuasive Essay On Mental Health
It was October 1, 2017, at the Country Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada that Stephen Paddock
fired upon a concert, resulting in hundreds killed and wounded altogether (Fox). Going back further to
2011, Jared Lee Loughner killed six and injured twelve, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford
(Moon 209). As more and more mass shootings emerge, it s unfortunate to think such tragedies could
be avoided by involuntarily committing the perpetrator. As of 2017, involuntary commitment, also
known as civil commitment, is a law where the court can order the mentally ill to get treatment against
their consent so long as they pose a danger to self or other (Evans and Salekin 325). By implementing
a less restrictive version of the current law where danger is not the only criteria, the U.S. can provide
equal access to mental health treatments, help get the homeless off the streets, and prevent violent
situations.
Occasionally while walking down the streets, a homeless man is seated against a wall talking
gibberish or a lady is pushing a cart around aimlessly for hours. That same homeless man commonly
overlooked by the law and passerby has the potential to be just like the average middle class person,
working a steady job, having a family, and owning a home of his own but is unfortunately held back
by his mental illness. These people are unable to receive treatment due to having no family, money,
and because they don t impose any danger. On the other hand, less restrictive involuntary commitment
laws would allow for this person to enter a treatment facility at no cost, help them get better, and start
their life anew. For example, less restrictive involuntary commitment laws would provide housing and
proper treatment to those who cannot afford or aren t able to get the help they need on their own. By
eliminating the worry of finding housing, a patient can focus more on getting better mentally and
getting off the streets for good. Supporters of the housing first method agree that once homeless
people have a safe, stable place to live, it is easier to get well and look for work ( Homelessness ).
Involuntary commitment of the patient would allow a bed in a mental health facility, routine care, and
a healthy environment

economic well being of society. The environment is accessible by every individual as it is non
excludable. Thus, meaning that no one can be prohibited from using it and one person s use
diminishes another person s use of it. Since it is a common resource accessible to everyone, it can
easily be overused, this is when a government should intervene in order to restore the balance. There
are many ways in which governments can help aid the climate issue, one being by controlling prices in
the markets (directly) or by taxing and subsidising demand and supply (indirectly). But, obviously
climate change could not be aided through something as simple as changing the price, so that means
that the intervention would be seen as indirect because there is no market for climate change. It will be
difficult for the government to measure social costs (externality) of climate change. These exist when
the production or consumption of a good has a positive or negative side effect on third parties that are
not accounted for in the price of the good. Manufacturing companies emit carbon pollution during the
production process that increases the contamination in the environment. In order to

Political Structure Of The Government
Political Structure According to the Library of Congress, [t]he Algerian government is a multi party
republic with a constitution and a strong presidency. There are three branches of government including
a legislative, executive, and judicial branch. The president has a considerable amount of power. He
can appoint or dismiss the prime minister, act as the commander in chief of the armed forces, and
more. Currently the president is Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who has been in office since 1999. Ideally,
there is a presidential election every 5 years, with a limit of 2 terms per president. However, it seems
as if President Bouteflika is not going to abide by that provision (Country Profile, Algeria 17). Algeria

Every 5 years, they elect representatives for the legislature as well as for the president (Country
Profile, Algeria 18). According to Election Guide, a service provided by the International Foundation
for Election Systems, a non profit funded by USAID, Algeria s president is elected by absolute
majority vote through a two round system[.]) The Council of the Nation has 96 members who are
elected through an electoral college, while 48 members are appointed by the President. They serve 6
years regardless of if they re elected or appointed. The National People s Assembly (APN) is filled by
a closed list proportional representation system. Members of the APN serve in 5 year terms (IFES).
Political Parties For much of its inception, the FLN maintained political dominance in Algeria. In fact,
the first constitution of Algeria outlawed political competition. In 1990, the first elections with a
plurality of parties took place. There was the Islamist FIS party, the pro Berber socialist party (FFS),
and another pro Berber party called the RCD. As mentioned previously, the Islamist party and a civil
war ensued (Laskier). In the previous 2012 elections, the National Liberation Front (FLN) won with a
majority of 17.35%. Other major contenders included the National Democratic Rally (RND; 6.86% of
the votes), the Green Algeria Alliance (AAV; 6.22% of the votes), and the Socialist Forces Front (FFS;
2.47 of the votes) The results of the election gave 208 seats to the FLN, 68 seats

The Causes Of Civil War
Solomon Otubo Asst. Proff. Gülay Uğuru Göksel
What are the causes of Civil War? Do ethnic determinants play an important role? Why are certain
parts of Africa characterized by ethnic conflict while other parts remain relatively calm?
The conventional understanding on the causes of civil war especially within African countries, to a
considerable degree, has being predominantly characterized to draw its root on ethnic divergences.
However, such premise appear extremely difficult to be true, owing to the fact that civil war is a
complex action and requires the interplay of different variables to make it visible. Nonetheless, the
role of ethnic differences in determining civil war cannot be overemphasized. But generalizing ethnic
differences as a prime factor that result to civil war sounds unreasonable irrespective of what the
actors pretend or claim to have motivated them. For instance, all most every country in Africa is multi
ethnic oriented state, and in such a cross cultural environment, it is usual for the minority to lay claim
of being short changed either one way or the other. However not all the African countries have
witnessed civil war. Within such context one can draw a logical conclusion that there are other
variables which directly or indirectly play an interwoven role with ethnicism, or hide under the
umbrella of ethnic diversities to cause civil war.
In this paper I will develop a constructive model which shows the correlation of different variables as

Hilton Hotel Case Study
The hotel units (mainly those operating in the luxury segment) believe that the sustainability of their
activity involves a balance between the economic benefits, and the social and environmental
responsibilities inherented to their actions.
The global objectives of these hotels are creating long term value for the company by developing its
activities in a balanced way and reconciling the interests of individuals, nature, and society.
The Hilton chain is currently the second largest hotel chain and the pioneer in global hospitality. It is
embedded in a highly competitive market, where preparation is the key. As such, the training of
employees, involvement with the environment, satisfaction and customer relationship are values
prioritised by the brand. For Hilton, the relationship with their customers, is the key to success; values
that Conrad Hilton has instituted in the brand since the first hotel was inaugurated. This continued
leadership is a consequence of the fidelity to the vision, mission and values instituted in this hotel
chain, in order to continue being the most hospitable organization in the world.
Our Planet is currently undergoing intense social, cultural, economic, and especially environmental
changes. In the middle of this process, tourism stands out because it is an activity that generates
considerable development factors. That is why hotel chains are reducing waste, water consumption
and investing in energy efficiency technologies .
In addition to the responsible business practices of Hilton, the corporation also ensures that their
suppliers are aligned with their core sustainable development practices. Keeping in mind the
development of programs and initiatives that support their commercial target, the hotel chain is keen
on managing the social and environmental impact of their operations. The achievement of such goals
and targets have lead to certain measures being taken such as: developing cross functional advisory
groups, ensuring their business is conducted with diverse suppliers, involvement of local sourcing, and
welfare of animals and their rights. In addition, the company also takes into account the extension of
their supply chain globally, as well as working with

How Christians Interpret And Celebrate The Last Supper Today
Holy Communion is very important in Christian worship. This is the occasion on which the priest
distributes bread and wine. This is one is of the seven Sacraments. A Sacrament is a physical act with
a spiritual meaning. It takes the form of a ceremony intended to reveal and to give a greater sense of
closeness to God. The spiritual meaning of Holy Communion is togetherness with God and each other.
During Holy Communion the priest takes the bread and wine, gives thanks to God, breaks the bread
and then gives them to the worshipers. This is known as the Fourfold Eucharistic actions. Eucharist
means thanksgiving. So the Eucharist or Holy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This serves the purpose of remembering the Last Supper and also brings a feeling of closeness with
God, Jesus and each other. It will also remind Christians of the death and resurrection of Jesus.
Holy Communion has four main meanings. The first is remembrance. Holy Communion
commemorates the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. Corinthians 11:23 25 writes that Jesus took and
broke the bread, referred to it as his body and said, Do this in remembrance of me. Similarly after the
supper he took a cup and referred to it as, the new covenant in my blood and said, Do this whenever
you drink it, in remembrance of me.
The second is participation. Jesus did more than just take and break the bread and take and pour the
wine. He gave these things to the disciples to eat, thus he was involving them in the last supper. So
today the Last supper is more than just a commemoration, where we remember a past event, it is a
communion in which we participate in the remembrance and share in its benefits.
The apostle Paul wrote: is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the
blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? (1
Corinthians 10:16)
This show that in Holy Communion we are meant to participate and share in

Aviation Company Karl Rapp
Initially starting as an aviation company set up by Karl Rapp which was established in 1913 was the
basis at which BMW began their long and illustrious tenor at the top of the luxury brand Automotive
industry. Although struggling initially due to poor engine designs which suffered from severe vibration
problems the company knows as Rapp Motorenwerke barely remained in business solely due to the
Austro Daimler being unable to keep up with the high demand of the V12 aircraft engines required by
the Austrian military. It was this inability to meet their demands that resulted in the decision for the
engines to be produced at Rapp Motorenwerke allowing them to remain in business. Franz Josef Popp
who was the lead supervising engineering at Austro Daimler was sent to Munich to supervise the
engine quality. Popp went on to become actively involved in the running of the company and was
behind the hiring of Max Friz who was a young and talented aircraft engineer. It would be the hiring
of Friz that would change the course of the company. Within a few weeks of his hiring Max Friz had
designed a new aero engine far superior to any other German aero engine currently being produced.
Following the departure of Rapp the company took on a large restructuring and BMW was first
established as a business entity in 1917. Large orders were being received for the BMW IIIa engine
designed by7 Max Friz and a high level of financial assistance were provided by officials in relevant

Growing Up Narrative
We hesitated, honestly, realizing the shared feelings held made us different... Yet, we still jumped.
Faye was different than others. She insisted on staying icy , with the world seen clearly and head spins
exhilarating. It seemed like a switch in personalities through milliseconds making our photographic,
flowerdness, and stormy lives more interesting than life should ve ever been. Photography is a passion
we shared closer to our hearts then our own safety. Her and I fell in love with telling stories through
the adrenaline rushes, cold cut pictures making people understand without uttering a single word.
Demanding to know what darkness held we descended into the underneath to capture our pain, never

There was a tree on the edge of the water that had a branch just high enough to jump off of where it s
safe and still feel the adrenaline pumping through your veins. It took over 5 minutes to swim to the
other side and by then Faye had wanted something that would make her mind icy for longer than just a
couple minutes. Two girls sitting underneath a tree talking about traveling the world together,
dreaming of the perfect twin brothers to come along by the age of 25, and sharing our feelings of
difference from the world was routine. Yet, something was off... I didn t know what but it definitely
wasn t the night for after dark parties or adrenaline rushes. The third fight was our last. The thought of
her starting a fire across her skin before jumping in the ice cold lake left a feeling I couldn t explain.
Jumping from the tree into the lake helped, I knew it did, but I couldn t let her jump tonight... She d do
it alone and I d never let her spark adrenaline dangerously by herself. Sisters fight, it s a natural
instinct. Except you never leave your baby sister behind when it s dangerous outside, no matter how
mad you are. I did. Millions of cars searched the streets and calls... so many calls, were made to find
Faye. It was an immediate search after I realized the selfishness of what I d done, leaving her there at
the lake. Except, no one made it in time. The burn marks and cuts across our skin marked our
stupidity, everyone knew. There s a reason why no one ever worried about us. We knew how to take
care of ourselves and the ice we felt from the blade or the fire or the jumping was a shock to people at
first. Before they realized it was only two stupid teenagers and stopped telling us we needed help. It
was like our minds were in constant searching for something more. Anything to make the icy feeling

Analysis Of The Book The Catcher Of The Rye By Quot....
The Catcher in the Rye, a novel written by J.D. Salinger, follows the short journey in which a teenage
boy is coming to terms with his encroaching adulthood. Holden, the main character, has been kicked
out of a private school for the third time. In New York, he is on the verge of a mental breakdown.
Holden is reluctant to act on the obvious solution of returning home and feels discombobulation
towards the consequences he might have to face. He reflects on the death of his brother and struggles
from loneliness because his brother was the only person he really had a connection with. He now has
no one around his age to reach out to.Salinger illustrates through the struggles of Holden that the

Again it can be seen when Bernice, the blonde, asks, Hey how old are you anyways and Holden tells
us that it annoyed him and then responds, Oh, Chris. Don t spoil it. I m twelve, for chrissake. I m big
for my age .(94) From this, we can understand Holden yearning to be taken seriously as an adult, but
his childish acts always get in the way of positive reactions from adult and ultimately his acceptance
as an equal. In this search for his right of passage into adulthood,Holden is constantly trying to keep
prove himself. Holden is 17 years old, and he is not really a child anymore and tries to gain validation
from strangers and himself by drinking and smoking. In the early chapters of the book Holden acts
immature, but as the journey progresses so does Holden. He comes to make rational decisions as his
trip goes on as demonstrated by Salinger when Holden calls Sally and asks her out on a real date; it is
considerably less callow than when he called Faith in the middle of the night in hopes of getting
drinks and then having sex. Holden starts to learn and grow into his age. Notice that Holden only
drinks in public and never in privacy. He looks to others for recognition that he can take alcohol like a
man. When he smokes in the room with Stradlater and

Exploring the Efficacy of International Organizations in...
The emergence of international organizations and international norms has undoubtedly changed the
way states exercise power in international politics. On the one hand, international organizations may
have a large influence over the behavior of states by spreading international norms, such as self
determination, that then help shape foreign policy. They could also be viewed as a form of global
governance that ameliorates nationalistic aggression. On the other hand, international organizations
could be seen as simply a reflection of the existing balance of power within an anarchic, self help
system; international norms simply a convenient ideological rhetoric for a state to utilize in order to
legitimize and justify their national interests. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Keohane argues, under a bipolar structure, relative gains become the most apparent and easily
calculated, forcing cooperation to a minimum. However, Keohane stresses, this does not by any means
undermine prospects for cooperation in general (Keohane, Mitigation, p. 155). The UN does little to
constrain Russia s behavior and to influence the outcome becauase of its wide and diverse
membership and the lack of common interests between the key decision makers the Security Council.
In essence, the UN takes on the same bilateral nature of its members, resulting in indecisive action.
Russia s veto of the UN resolution that declared Crimea illegal on March 15 is a clear example of this.
As realists would say, the UN as an international organization is simply another measure of national
sovereignty: the Organization is based on the principle of sovereign equality (Charter of the United
Nations, Chapter I Article II). No state is willing to make a decision that will undermine its own
sovereignty. However, NATO and the EU, organizations that comprise of fewer members who share
deeper political interests and ideologies, become central actors themselves and are not just an
institutional form of the balance of powers. As Steven Erlanger writes in The New York Times, the
Crimea crisis has suddenly revived the North Atlantic Treat Organization s central role as a
counterweight to Moscow and, that the crisis is a

Tom Walker Archetypes
Folk tales are stories that are most often passed down orally from generation to generation. These
stories are often changed slightly due its old age and variety in versions. Details and dialogue may
differ by a speck, but one thing that never changes is the archetypes in the stories, in other words, the
common example of a character based on their role in the story. Washington Irving, an author
associated to the Romantic Era with a gothic twist in the 1800 s, is a prime example of a folk tale with
archetypical characters. The Devil and Tom Walker, published in 1824 illustrates a story of a greedy
man who makes a covenant with the Devil selling his soul for wealth. Irving uses the Old Starch, Tom
and his wife as primary examples of the typical characters that make up the story. ... Show more

He establishes the background of the story by stating that there was buried treasure of a passed away
pirate on the hill top guarded not only by the big black oak trees, but by the Devil himself. In doing
this, Irving establishes a scene to easily introduce the villain to the story. When the Old Starch is
brought into the spooky setting, it is much easier to identify that he is the villain looking for a way to
do malice. When the author talks about Old Starch he refers to him as a person that should be feared
and will intentionally hurt someone in the story, which is very common in other stories for the villain
to be a scary figure and end up devastating another character, which in this case was the usurer that he

A Sense of Belonging Comes from Having Connections with...
A sense of belonging is an essential part of every individual s life. A sense of belonging can be created
from having connections with people and places within a personal, cultural, historical and social
context. The choice of where to belong and who to belong with changes people s sense of belonging
as time passes. The Poetry of Peter Skrzynecki s Immigrant Chronicle and Carson McCullers s novel ,
The member of the wedding demonstrates how a sense of belonging comes from having connections
with people and places.

Feliks Skrzynecki explores the relationship between the poet and his father, and their contrasting
experiences of belonging in a new land. The poem is written from the poet s perspective of his father.
In the first two stanzas he sees him from the perspective of a loving son and builds up a positive and
respectful image of his father. The emotive word gentle suggests his fond attachment and admiration
for his father who has raised him. This admiration was not apparent in his youth as Skrzynecki
recognises that there were cultural barriers between them that hampered the father son relationship.
This poem explores Feliks s sense not fully belonging to Australia and his son s growing detachment
from their polish heritage. In many ways father and son grow to become strangers to each other, with
individual attitudes towards belonging in an Australian context. As they share no common cultural
background, the connection and sense of belonging to each other is not complete. Peter does not
belong within the Polish culture, nor does he completely identify with Australian culture when he was
a young boy and adolescent. He experiences guilt and regret as he cannot share his father s memories
and enthusiasm for Poland. From a second generation migrant perspective this poem provides
evidence of an ambiguous stance towards belonging that comes

Latin America Analysis
As children grow up they lose creativity due to being impacted by the real world. Just as the children
growing up mourn losing creativity, Latin American people mourn losing happiness in their country.
The regions in Latin America were controlled by totalitarian governments and had to deal with many
basic rights taken away from them. This caused a lot of social realism in writing, which was expressed
through Latin American writers. Social realism was described through dark tones, atmosphere and
allegories to help readers understand how the authors felt during this time in their country. Authors
used dark tones to make readers feel sympathy for them and their situations through hauntingly dark
statements. Clarice Lispector uses atmosphere ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He expressed his poetic rebellion against the corrupt government by symbolizing situations for real
events going on. Mythology is one way he helped relate the prevalence of the situation to help readers
understand how empty/dead he feels about his country. I tell myself in the manner of Epictetus who is
going to die? (344). Paz explains how he is represented by Epiteicus, a greek philosopher who wanted
peace where death was accepted. Paz uses biblical references to show how his culture influenced the
understanding of death to relate to the reader. He uses an allegory between Adam, the first man to live
and die, to him ending it which correlates to the end of Mexico. On our shadowy Earth each man is
Adam: with him the world begins, with him it ends (344). As the world ends with Adam, Mexico will
end with the corrupt government it started with. He also uses a reference to an epic poem which has a
very dark underlying meaning that the entire country faces. By referencing old literature he connects
to everyone and shows how these problems have been repeated throughout history and cannot be
ignored. The sorrow of Gilgamesh when he returned from the land without twilight is my sorrow
(344). Gilgamesh was filled with sorrow since he realized no man can escape death, just as Paz knows
his country is in too deep so it will end up dying. Octavio Paz used powerful allegories to help readers
understand how Mexico was dying and almost completely

Factors That Influence A Nation s Willingness Enter Into...
There are many factors that influence a nation s willingness to enter into Trade Agreements. Briefly
outline the basic models discussed in the readings and class (Heckscher Ohlin and Ricardo Viner).
Discuss what factors influence domestic trade preferences (Political, Economic, Sociotropic, etc.).
According to the article, the hypothesis of Heckscher Ohlin model or factor endowments is that all
factors of production within a country are mobile across sectors, that markets are perfectly
competitive, and that there are constant returns to scale in production (Mansfield Mutz, 427). Beyond
that, another assumption of Heckscher Ohlin model or factor endowments is critical is that factors of
production can move quickly and easily from one sector to another (Mansfield Mutz, 428). In my
opinion, one thing can be very easy to see that skill is the most important factor which can gain more
benefits from open trade. Briefly, for a country, the more advanced technology you have the more you
can get from open trade, for example, America can gain more benefits than China because of highly
skilled individuals will benefit economically from open trade (Mansfield Mutz, 451) The second
model Ricardo Viner which is a special factor that is not a unique factor affect open trade, it
emphasizes an individual works will affect trade preferences and it posits that trade preferences
depend on the industry in which a person works (Mansfield Mutz, 425). This special factor will make

  • 2. Human Control In Gerald Barrax s To Waste At Trees Industrial and urban development destroy, modify, or degrade natural habitat (Ray 16). The theme of fragmentation, as described and qualified by author Janisse Ray, is a prevalent element in her text, Pinhook. Specifically, in this quote from the book, the theme of fragmentation and the divisions that result from the methods of human control over nature are apparent, like the work of the corporate sector of the economy. The formation of an economy, the production of goods and services, and a hierarchical system of employment are purely human creations and the ultimate representation of human influence and control. Applying this idea to Ray s work and to specific ideas concerning how the environment and the corporate world interact with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Indigenous people, the whistleblowers in this situation, exposing the pollution and destruction of the environment that they see around them, are very committed to and believe strongly in the protection of and the blessings of nature. They are an example of complicating evidence to the binary about dominance and submission: it is not all people who exact their dominance and their dangerous economic practices on nature, it is singularly the people who are using and abusing nature as a part of their economic growth and development. Ultimately, people who become protectors of the land, and who fight against the ways of the economically strong will be nature s answer to resisting human domination. Industry relies heavily on natural resources, and so when the humans of the world do not allow industry to exploit nature for their own gain, the binary between dominance and submission surrounding the actions of humans will be ... • 3. Effects Of Parental Investment On Children Parental investment includes any investment by the parent in an individual offspring that increases the offspring s chances of survival, at the cost of the parent s ability to invest in other offspring (Travier, 1972). Since investing on themselves is as important as investing on their children, parents have to choose between caring for a child and acquiring the resources needed to insure their own productive and reproductive successes (Turner McAndrew, 2006). This choice can be influenced by the social, cultural and economic factors at household level, and by socio demographic factors at individual level. These factors may vary from culture to culture and overtime. However, the following variables are the most frequently cited determinants of parental investment on children. i) Gender; the gender of the parent is the most widely reported determinant of parent`s willingness to invest on children. This is mentioned across disciplines, from biology through social anthropology, with similar conclusions but different explanations. There is consensus that the gender identity of the parent through which income is received determines how the resources are invested on child welfare. Studies (Agarwal, 1997; Kabeer, 2000) indicated that income injected into the household through the mother do more justice to the welfare of children compared to resources injected through the father. Similarly, an exogenous increase in mothers income has a larger effect on children`s outcomes than ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Safety and Effectiveness of Low-Carbohydrate Diets Essays Although low fat, low calorie diet has always been the gold standard of weight loss, low carbohydrate diet cannot be dismissed. However, despite its popularity, low carbohydrate diet s safety and effectiveness continue to be subject of debates. It was not until recently that low carbohydrate diet is properly studied due to the difficulty of measuring adherence and the high rates of drop outs. This article will review six original reports done on low carbohydrate diet. It will analyse the effectiveness of low carbohydrate diet over short and longer period of time as well as its effects on metabolism, coronary heart disease risk factors, glucose tolerance and psychological aspects. Westman, Yancy, Edman, Tomlin, and Perkins s (2002) did a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also found that low carbohydrate diet has more favourable improvement in some factors of coronary heart disease, such as serum triglycerides and serum high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, but not on others, such as blood pressure, low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and insulin sensitivity (Foster et al., 2003). The strength of this research is that it comprises of various coronary heart disease risks. This result however may not be reliable as the sample is small and the attrition level is forty three per cent. As subjects used were obese individuals that had no serious health disease, their findings cannot be generalised for overweight and obese individuals with serious health disease. HPLC diet was also tested on severely obese adolescents, aged twelve to eighteen (Krebs, Gao, Gralla, Collins, Johnson, 2010). Similar to previous findings, they found that HPLC diet has significantly greater reduction in Body Mass Index compared to low fat diet without any adverse effects for up to twenty four weeks before it diminishes. Therefore, Krebs et al. (2010) concluded that HPLC is a safe and effective option for treatment of severe obesity in adolescent. This result, though, should not be generalised as the sample is small and exclusion of children with poor family supports, various health diseases and disorders may affect result. In addition, high drop outs rate may also affect result. On the other hand, since the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Part One Solitary: Deprived of the company of others; the state of being alone; a reference to solitary confinement (solitary). The use of the word solitary in line 16 illustrates how although people have been described as taking part in the funeral, they do not relate or understand her. Although there are others around her, there is no communication between them. World: A state or realm of existence, often used in reference to human existence on Earth or in reference to Heaven and Hell; A person s normal or habitual sphere of though (world). In the poem, world is used in the introduction of a new state. In this sense, the word World has many interpretations. Through implementation of the metaphor, made at the beginning of the poem, between a person s descent into insanity and a funeral, we can look at the use of world in two different ways. In one sense, world is referring to ones state of mental stability and the change from the state of sanity to insanity. In another sense world is referring to leaving the realm of human existence on earth and arriving at the afterlife. The worlds that the afterlife inhabits, Heaven and Hell, are both referenced; Heaven being mention in line 13 and Hell being referenced by the use of the words dropped in describing the transition between Earth and the afterlife. • 7. The Pros And Cons Of UNICEF Unmistakably, innumerable world events have set the stage for a multitude of moments of peace, liberty, and justice throughout the globe that have been long awaited for extensive periods of time. The key formula of momentous changes throughout history have not only been political decisions, but also the commonly associated aspect of warfare. Together, these often chaotic melting pots of policy and conflict have paved the way for ending extensive moments of injustice and hardship while also toppling the authoritative rule of brute dictators such as Adolf Hitler. However, quite commonly the long fought pathways towards victory and sequential freedom leaves behind a long tail of destruction and chaos often paid for in the cost of lives, limbs, damaged societies and post traumatic stress disorder. On the positive side, however, what these long fought battles sometimes give birth to are organizations and policies that emphasize the necessity of not only preserving peace, but also aiding those commonly negatively impacted by those moments of disorder and chaos. • 8. Trotsky Vs Stalin After Lenin s death in January of 1924, it became apparent that a power struggle between Trotsky and Stalin had already long been brewing and would soon become far greater. Stalin had quite a different background than both Trotsky and Lenin. Lyons had explained that Stalin had come from a different background than Trotsky and Lenin, one where he had never even left Russia. His background largely contributed to his varying perceptions of Russia and its regime, along with his approach as to how he would come to power. Lyons wrote, He believed that the Communists had enough to do in Russia itself. Stalin not only headed the the Secretariat as general secretary but led the Organizational Bureau as well, which gave him control over the party machinery and personnel (Lyons, 2016, pg. 31). • 12. Petroleum And Natural Gas Exploration Essay Executive Summary April 20, 2010 was the beginning of the end for British Petroleum. BP was started in 1901 by William Knox D Arcy. Their mission is to operate oil and natural gas exploration, while marketing and distributing all over the globe. The primary issues the company faces are rebuilding their business after the tragic oil spill, their low oil prices and internal leadership promotions. Following the 2010 oil spill, all of BP s top executives were fired, and the company has continued to promote internally, as recent as February of 2016. The company has been trying to rebrand itself and fix its disastrous public image that resulted from the poorly handled oil spill. Due to these internal promotions, no new ideas have been introduced into the company and their efforts in recreating themselves have since stalled, leading to unmotivated employees and decreased profits. Although British Petroleum has solid production sites in Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, and various areas of the U.S, the brand s name remains so tainted from past violations. The declining price of oil, along with that environmental factors that affect the company, both nationally and globally, have exacerbated this stall and caused the company a major issue in recovering their public image, reputation, brand name, stock prices, and overall prosperity. These factors have certainly not been beneficial to the company in recovering from the sixty one billion dollars BP has had to pay as result of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Hiv ) And The Acquired... Introduction The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) do not seem to be a major topic of discussion in the World today. Especially within the United States, HIV and AIDS are not conversed about as openly as perhaps it was in the past two decades. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at the end of 2010 there were approximately 1.1 million people living in the United States with the HIV virus. Of those 1.1 million people, about 16% did not even know they were infected (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2010). Each year there are approximately 50,000 new HIV infections within the United States (CDC, 2010). Within the 50,000 new cases of HIV infection, the elderly population is the fastest growing segment within the United States (Sankar, Nevedal, Neufedl, Berry, Luborsky, 2011, p.2). By 2015, adults who are ages 50 and older will make up approximately 50% of all HIV/AIDS cases in the United States (Effros, Fletcher, Gebo, Courtney, Halter, Hazzard, High, 2008, p. 542). With the increasing number of HIV/AIDS infections, the demand for prescription drug cocktails has increased. Half of the population diagnosed with HIV/AIDS does not receive regular health care (CDC, 2010). • 17. What Are The Rules Of Phonology Rules of Phonology The easiest way to understand what the rules of phonology are for is that it translates phonemes to the real sounds, called allophones. Whatever we utter or produce using our vocal chords are allophones, which has physical entities to it. While, phonemes are what is received by the listener that has mental entities and are representative. The classes of phonemes that are bound to these rules are: voiced consonants, rounded vowels, nasals, sibilants and etc. The existence of variations in every language makes the phonological rules important to maintain recognizable words. Therefore, the rules of phonology are used to show the patterns of distribution of sounds in a particular language which might vary in different languages. In the rules of phonology, there are several feature changing rules that change the value of a certain component feature of a sound. For example, the feature of a sound could change from non nasal to nasal or from short to long. Presumably, different languages have different rules, but some are very common in every language. • 18. Thesis For Hamlet Essay Literary Thesis Essay William Shakespeare has changed the way that many people have viewed plays and literature throughout his life and is still carrying that legacy to this day. This is most prominent in his famous tragedy, Hamlet, which is still analyzed for its success as a renowned classic. The story is about a prince named Hamlet who meets his Father s ghost and learns of their murder by his uncle. The story continues by depicting Hamlet s revenge and his falling into madness. Hamlet illustrates masterful uses of literary devices in the use of euphemisms, imagery, and similes to create an interesting tragedy that changed the outlook on literature as a whole. Shakespeare has indisputable skill in mastery over literary devices that shape themselves into an heart wrenching masterpiece. Euphemisms form excellent literature by provoking thoughtful insight within texts to decipher what would otherwise be seen as blunt or obvious. In hamlet, the euphemism, For thought and the trifling of his favor, Hold it a fashion and a toy in blood, A violet in the youth of primy nature, (Act 1, Scene 3, ln. 5 7) plays on Hamlet s attitude, hinting to ideas much more vile than what is initially spoken. This allows for readers to interpret Hamlet in varying senses. The quote, I saw him enter such a house of sale videlicet a brothel, or so forth... (Act 2, Scene 1, ln. 61 62) utilizes phrasing to avoid the use of less appetizing words. This helps in the aid to avoid blunt terms and add ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abusive Domestic Relationship Defence According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics half of the female victims of domestic violence experience more than one incident of abuse (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2013). In Queensland using spousal abuse as a defence to murder can be problematic for female defendants who kill their abusers. Jurors in most cases relating to spousal abuse tend to find the act of pre emptive killing in self defence not justifiable. Queensland s Criminal Code should be amended to allow the Abusive Domestic Relationship Defence to be used as a full defence. Walker argues that the syndrome would influence the abused individual to make decisions which appear illogical to a typical person. A common person would leave an abusive relationship rather than kill for self preservation, whilst the syndrome would influence the victim to kill. In the case R v. • 20. Persuasive Essay On Mental Health It was October 1, 2017, at the Country Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada that Stephen Paddock fired upon a concert, resulting in hundreds killed and wounded altogether (Fox). Going back further to 2011, Jared Lee Loughner killed six and injured twelve, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford (Moon 209). As more and more mass shootings emerge, it s unfortunate to think such tragedies could be avoided by involuntarily committing the perpetrator. As of 2017, involuntary commitment, also known as civil commitment, is a law where the court can order the mentally ill to get treatment against their consent so long as they pose a danger to self or other (Evans and Salekin 325). By implementing a less restrictive version of the current law where danger is not the only criteria, the U.S. can provide equal access to mental health treatments, help get the homeless off the streets, and prevent violent situations. Occasionally while walking down the streets, a homeless man is seated against a wall talking gibberish or a lady is pushing a cart around aimlessly for hours. That same homeless man commonly overlooked by the law and passerby has the potential to be just like the average middle class person, working a steady job, having a family, and owning a home of his own but is unfortunately held back by his mental illness. These people are unable to receive treatment due to having no family, money, and because they don t impose any danger. On the other hand, less restrictive involuntary commitment laws would allow for this person to enter a treatment facility at no cost, help them get better, and start their life anew. For example, less restrictive involuntary commitment laws would provide housing and proper treatment to those who cannot afford or aren t able to get the help they need on their own. By eliminating the worry of finding housing, a patient can focus more on getting better mentally and getting off the streets for good. Supporters of the housing first method agree that once homeless people have a safe, stable place to live, it is easier to get well and look for work ( Homelessness ). • 21. Government Intervention Essay 1. When issues arise, governments are the ones that intervene into the market to correct market failures; these include issues such as climate change. In order to correct these issues government use methods such as inequality, externalities and public goods. This restores efficiency as well as increasing the economic well being of society. The environment is accessible by every individual as it is non excludable. Thus, meaning that no one can be prohibited from using it and one person s use diminishes another person s use of it. Since it is a common resource accessible to everyone, it can easily be overused, this is when a government should intervene in order to restore the balance. There are many ways in which governments can help aid the climate issue, one being by controlling prices in the markets (directly) or by taxing and subsidising demand and supply (indirectly). But, obviously climate change could not be aided through something as simple as changing the price, so that means that the intervention would be seen as indirect because there is no market for climate change. It will be difficult for the government to measure social costs (externality) of climate change. These exist when the production or consumption of a good has a positive or negative side effect on third parties that are not accounted for in the price of the good. Manufacturing companies emit carbon pollution during the production process that increases the contamination in the environment. In order to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. The Causes Of Civil War Solomon Otubo Asst. Proff. Gülay Uğuru Göksel What are the causes of Civil War? Do ethnic determinants play an important role? Why are certain parts of Africa characterized by ethnic conflict while other parts remain relatively calm? The conventional understanding on the causes of civil war especially within African countries, to a considerable degree, has being predominantly characterized to draw its root on ethnic divergences. However, such premise appear extremely difficult to be true, owing to the fact that civil war is a complex action and requires the interplay of different variables to make it visible. Nonetheless, the role of ethnic differences in determining civil war cannot be overemphasized. But generalizing ethnic differences as a prime factor that result to civil war sounds unreasonable irrespective of what the actors pretend or claim to have motivated them. For instance, all most every country in Africa is multi ethnic oriented state, and in such a cross cultural environment, it is usual for the minority to lay claim of being short changed either one way or the other. However not all the African countries have witnessed civil war. Within such context one can draw a logical conclusion that there are other variables which directly or indirectly play an interwoven role with ethnicism, or hide under the umbrella of ethnic diversities to cause civil war. This serves the purpose of remembering the Last Supper and also brings a feeling of closeness with God, Jesus and each other. It will also remind Christians of the death and resurrection of Jesus. Holy Communion has four main meanings. The first is remembrance. Holy Communion commemorates the death of Jesus Christ on the cross. Corinthians 11:23 25 writes that Jesus took and broke the bread, referred to it as his body and said, Do this in remembrance of me. Similarly after the supper he took a cup and referred to it as, the new covenant in my blood and said, Do this whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me. The second is participation. Jesus did more than just take and break the bread and take and pour the wine. He gave these things to the disciples to eat, thus he was involving them in the last supper. So today the Last supper is more than just a commemoration, where we remember a past event, it is a communion in which we participate in the remembrance and share in its benefits. The apostle Paul wrote: is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?
