Global Symposium on Engaging Men and Boys on Achieving Gender Equality
Rio de Janeiro
March 29 April 3, 2009
PART ONE: PREAMBLE
We come from eighty countries. We are men and women, young and old, working side by side with
respect and shared goals. We are active in community organizations, religious and educational
institutions; we are representatives of governments, NGOs and the United Nations. We speak many
languages, we look like the diverse peoples of the world and carry their diverse beliefs and religions,
cultures, physical abilities, and sexual and gender identities. We are indigenous peoples, immigrants,
and ones whose ancestors moved across the planet. We are fathers and mothers, daughters and sons, ...

We know how critical it is that institutions traditionally controlled by men reshape their policies and
priorities to support gender equality and the well being of women, children, and men. And we know
that a critical part of that is to reshape the world of men and boys, the beliefs of men and boys, and the
lives of men and boys.
PART TWO: THE PLAN OF ACTION
The Evidence Base is There: New initiatives and programs to engage men and boys in gender equality
provides a growing body of evidence that confirms it is possible to change men s gender related
attitudes and practices. Effective programs and processes have led men and boys to stand up against
violence and for gender equality in both their personal lives and their communities. These initiatives
not only help deconstruct harmful masculinities, but reconstruct more gender equitable ones. Global
research makes it increasingly clear that working with men and boys can reduce violence, improve
relationships, strengthen the work of the women s movement, improve health outcomes of women and
men, girls and boys, and that it is possible to accelerate this change through deliberate interventions.
Working with the Women s Movement: The work with men and boys stems from and honors the
pioneering work and ongoing leadership of the women s movement. We stand in solidarity with the
ongoing struggles for women s empowerment and rights in our commitment to contribute to the
myriad efforts to achieve

Summary Of Code Of The Street By Elijah Anderson
Code of the Street is a book written by Elijah Anderson and it is set in an inner city neighborhood in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Living in the inner city, there is a certain system one must follow to be
able to gain respect, loyalty, and honor from others around. Anderson discusses in the book the codes
of the street and what one must do, how one must act, and the process of what one had to go through
to get where they are today. Anderson visits Germantown, Pennsylvania and begins observing the
different people, the different stores, restaurants, and shops and begins to take note of it. He starts to
notice things like how the shops in Germantown were very open and welcoming and then as he made
his way out of the decent neighborhood he began to notice how decorative iron bars were placed on
windows and doors and how the crowds of people had changed. To Anderson, it was a status symbol
in the neighborhood to warn off thieves and zombies , which are also known as crack addicts, from
trying to break in. As he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Deterrence is what keeps people from doing harm to others and it is the act of discouraging an action
through instilling fear of the potential consequences. What this means is that the cost of the crime can
outweigh the benefits. An example of how the cost can outweigh the benefits is when Anderson used
the example of the doctor shooting at the intruder in his home. Anderson stated in the book, He came
down with his gun and in the darkness announced, I have a gun. . The rumbling continued, so he fired,
killing the intruder in his kitchen with a bullet to the back of his head. (Chapter 3, 119) Later, the
owner of the home came to find out that the intruder was trying to steal his small kitchen television to
sell on the street to bring in money to buy crack cocaine. The act of stealing cost the intruder his life
instead of him having the idea that he was going to be successful in stealing the television for

Women s March Analysis
According to Lauren Enriquez, Democrats have adopted an idea that President Trump stands for
division and discrimination, while his opponents stand for love and inclusion. She says that this
sentiment was seen in the women s march in January, which claimed to speak for women in general,
but, she feels, excluded women who identify as pro life. She also believes that the movement has lost
sight of what it stands for, choosing to focus on what they are against instead. She states that most
women are pro life, and that they cannot believe in a version of feminism that excludes the ability of
women to nurture life. She believes that her movement, the pro life movement, empowers women in
tangible ways, whereas the pro choice movement demands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It has been performed in nearly every society for thousands of years, and it was legal in the United
States from the time the earliest settlers arrived. When the Constitution was adopted, in certain
situations, abortions were openly advertised and commonly performed. (History) Anti abortion
legislation began as a way to combat the growing women s rights movement for suffrage and birth
control around 1880. It was an attempt at controlling women and confining them to the traditional
childbearing role, as well as a way for the medical profession to remain male dominant, as midwives
who performed abortions were a threat to the male medical establishment. (History) Abortion has
always been a choice that women had, and until the late 1800s, was advertised and commonly
performed in the United States, when the anti abortion movement began simply as a means to slow the

Franchising Franchising is a business model that allows companies to rapidly expand their market
share. According to Franchise.com (2015), there are three types of franchises: distributorships,
trademark licensing, and business format franchises. When two organizations enter into a
distributorship, the originating company provides the rights another company to sell their products. An
example of a distributorship is when an auto manufacturing company grants rights to a dealership to
sell their vehicles (Franchise.com, 2015). Trademark licensing is when one company allows another
company to use their trademark (Franchise.com, 2015). The business format franchise authorizes
franchisees to sell the parent company s products and/or services as well as utilize their business
model. This type of franchising is the most common and is the type needed to obtain to open a new
Cold Stone Creamery. Pros. There are many pros associated with buying a new business format
franchise. First, since the franchisee obtains the parent company s business model, individuals who are
interested in starting a new business but are not confident in their abilities or lack experience in
business, will receive a successful model to emulate (Williams, 2011). In addition, the franchise may
also help the franchisee determine the best location for the business, help with the acquisition of
equipment, and may help finance the endeavor. Next, most

What Is Amanda Evil
The Glass Menagerie is a play written by Tennessee Williams. It was first published in 1945. The
Glass Menagerie is a memory play, and the narrator is Tom Wingfield. Tom works at a shoe factory to
support his family after this father abandoned them. Laura, the older sister, is not only morbidly shy
due to a brace she wears around her leg, but she lives in her own fantasy world of glass animals and
old records. Amanda, the mother of both children, was raised in an upper class family. She often tells
stories about her life and the many gentlemen callers she received. Throughout Tom s memory, the
character s frustrations lead to heated arguments, which then leads to a tragic ending. Therefore, a
central idea in The Glass Menagerie focuses on the impossibility of true escape and the frustrations
each character experiences.

Amanda, the mother of both children, sells magazine subscriptions over the phone. She is in conflict
with herself; her magazine subscription calls are embarrassing, but she is willing to sacrifice her
reputation for her children. I believe this is similar to Tom. She cannot properly express her care and
love towards her children. Many people call Amanda evil because of her nagging towards Tom and
neglect towards accepting Laura. However, instead of evil, I think she is unable to accept reality.
Amanda s childhood was spent being popular, and she had some degree of luxury. However, after the
Great Depression, she lost everything. I agree that this is hard to accept, and this is possibly the reason
she lives in her own fantasy world, just like her own children. Amanda chooses to live in her past:
Amanda: One Sunday afternoon in Blue Mountain your mother received seventeen! gentlemen
callers! (Williams, 5). Amanda does not realize that she is living in the past. Therefore, Amanda lives
in her memory of the past and refuses to accept

Theme Of Reputation In The Crucible
Reputation is extremely important in a town where social standing is tied to one s ability to follow
religious rules. Your good name is the only way you can get other people to do business with you or
even get a fair hearing. Of course, reputation meant nothing when a witchcraft accusation was staring
you in the face. But reputation is what made the Reverend hale begin to doubt whether the accused
individuals were actually guilty. And it was for the sake of his reputation and his friends reputations
that John Proctor refused to sign a false confession. He would, quite literally, rather die. Although
John Proctor goes to his death falsely condemned as a witch, he gains his reputation and respect
among those who matter, like his wife, because he refuses to falsely identify his friends and
neighbours as witches. The loss of Abigail s reputation toward the end of the play shows that
characters in The Crucible eventually earn the reputations they deserve, despite the personal tragedies
that might take place along the way. Having a good reputation is very important in The Crucible. It
means you can be accepted by society. If you do not have a good name, you will be completely
rejected. John Proctor would no longer be thought of a morally straight and righteous person.
Reverend Parris would lose all his respect and not be accepted by society. Judge Danforth would be
constantly questioned and lose his job. Keeping and maintaining your good name is an overwhelming

Hollywood Studios And The Movie Industry Essay
Many Hollywood studios were prosperous in the international movie industry. These studios improved
American Films and continue to be affluent today.
Hollywood was the birthplace of movie studios, which were of great importance to America s public
image in the movie industry. The earliest and most affluent film companies were Warner Brothers
Pictures, Paramount, RKO, Metro Goldwyn Mayer, and 20th Century Fox, each of whom owned their
own film production sets and studios. Universal, United, and Columbia Pictures were also considered
noteworthy, despite not owning their own theaters, while Disney, Monogram, and Republic were
considered third tier. (History Cooperative)
These studios composed The Big Five , the film studios that controlled Hollywood for over fifty years
and distributed an estimated 90% of Fiction films around the world: Warner Brothers Pictures (WBO),
Paramount, RKO (Radio Keith Orpheum), Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM), and 20th Century Fox.
These studios were similar, but they had some unique traits that defined their studios such as MGM s
iconic lion roar introduction and Paramount s greatest stars of the 1920s with Rudolph Valentino,
Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks. With an enormous public image, these studios managed to
earn millions and improved the film industry in America. Due to the enormous success of The Big
Five , other studios such as Universal, United, and Columbia Pictures were overshadowed and
struggled to persevere in the film industry.

The Flash(Wally West) is best superhero in the 1960 s America. First,Wally West was the first kid

Furthermore, Wally west soon became the fastest of all the speedsters, most superheroes don t become

Comparing the Suffering Between Rhoda in The Withered Arm...
Comparing the Suffering Between Rhoda in The Withered Arm and The Son s Veto
in the tale The Withered Arm in the story The Son s Veto are both very lonely women. Both of these
women and have been mistreated by men, but none of them ever speak out for themselves to tell the
men that their behaviour is unacceptable. Women who were treated by men were just expected by their
fathers (if the husband is rich) to just keep quiet and be happy that they are financially supported.
Rhoda is a social reject. She has been isolated to a small, dilapidated cottage in the middle of a lonely
field. Rhoda is of the poor working class. She has received no education and is illiterate. Her son

Towards the end of the story, as Gertrude seeks a cure for her withered arm, her husband ends up
cursing her, Damn you! What are you doing here? . This shows how the relationship turned quite
quickly from happiness and affection to resenting and unhappiness. It also shows an example of lovers
ending up in a sorry state as their relationship goes badly, as Gertrude dies after receiving the cure for
her spookily withered arm.
Hardy was also very interested in writing about fate and coincidence in his work for his readers. As
this shows in the The Withered Arm . Rhoda feels such a strong dislike for Gertrude, her ex husbands
new wife, that she subconsciously grasps her by the arm in a dream. Also, another strong coincidence
is that Gertrude is told to receive her cure for the arm by pressing it against the neck of a hanged
person. The coincidence is that the hanged person turns out to be Rhoda s own son, who had be
hanged for stealing. The son of the woman who seems to have caused the illness, was the same person
that offered her the cure, although Gertrude dies very soon after.
The Son s Veto presents another moral issue. A lower class woman marries an upper class man. To
avoid judgement they move away. When this man dies, she meets a past love, but because he is now of
a lower class, her son forbids her to marry him and she dies an unhappy lady. The

Essay about The Battle of Bull Run History
The Battle of Bull Run was the first battle fought during the Civil War. It was a bloody battle and
showed both sides that this war would not be won quickly. There were a few factors that swayed the
battle in favor of the Confederacy, such as terrain, weather and technology. The Confederacy was able
to use railroads to transport troops to battle, which had never been done before. This allowed them to
continue fighting while the Union troops were growing tired and weak. Since the battle was fought on
Southern soil, the Confederacy gained the upper hand. Not only did their troops have knowledge of
the terrain, they were also accustomed to the warmer, humid climate of the south. The Union also had
its share of advantages, one being use of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Union believed that if they defeated the Confederacy no further attacks would be carried out. In
addition, President Lincoln aimed to re establish Federal law in the Southern states that had seceded
from the nation. He also wanted the Union Army to stop Confederate legislators from meeting in the
new Southern capitol of Richmond, Virginia. President Lincoln believed that this would bring a
speedy end to the war. BG Beauregard held a strong position in Manassas Junction. Manassas offered
railroad access which would lead to the center of Virginia, by way of Orange and Alexandria
Railroads. It was essential that Beauregard was able to maintain this position.
The weather on the day of battle was hot, in the mid 80 s to low 90 s, and humid. The heat had a
negative effect on Union soldiers. The Union Army set out at 2 a.m. to avoid engaging in battle during
the hottest part of the day. Many of these Soldiers were untrained in road marches and lacked
discipline. They would break ranks to find water, rest or collect blackberries. For these reasons they
reached Bull Run three hours late and consequently ended up fighting well into the day. Both sides
went into the battle with high morale. They believed that over the course of a few days they would be
victorious and the war would be won in this one battle. The terrain of the Battle was mostly rolling
country side. Bull Run River was running through the battlefield, which is what the battle was named
after. Soldiers had to

A Software Implementation of Delayed LMS Adaptive Filter for Noise Cancellation
Prajakta P. Bharadkar, Mrs.Rohita P. Patil
Abstract Noise in signal records is caused by various factors which increase the difficulty in analyzing
the signal and to obtain proper information. To design specific filters to decrease such noises in signal
records is necessary. Hence efficient architecture of Delayed LMS (DLMS) algorithm is proposed
which supports pipelining and avoid long critical path. A novel partial product generator and a strategy
for optimized balanced pipelining across the time consuming combinational blocks of the structure are
used. It also concentrates on minimizing the adaption delay and area. The proposed system is
implemented in verilog HDL language using Xilinx 14.2 and simulated using Modelsim simulator.
Index Terms Noise, Adaptive Filter, DLMS Algorithm, Critical Path, Pipelining, Verilog HDL.
INTRODUCTION
The signals are affected with noise and loss important information. Hence, the signals have to be
cleaned up with digital signal processing tools before they are stored, transmitted, or played out. A
variety of noise cancellation algorithms have been proposed in the literature. This can be achieved in
many different ways, such as beam forming, adaptive, temporal, spatial temporal filtering, etc. One of
the most widely used techniques is Lest Mean Square (LMS) adaptive filtering. It restores the desired
signal by passing the noisy signal through a Finite

The Family And Medical Leave Act
Throughout time and history women are perceived as a housewife, mothers, and givers; while men are
breadwinners, fathers, and receivers. Women have strived to change this stereotype for years, and
while sometimes this stereotype disappears for a subtle moment, it always will resurface. Especially,
when it comes to maternity leave. Men and women are given an equal amount of time to care for a
newborn, but somehow the father returns to work in a matter of days. Why is that, you may ask? It is
because America has generalized American into their known stereotype. And because of this, we see
men returning to the workforce in a short amount of time. Men, along with women, should have a paid
extension from the Family and Medical Leave Act to care for their child, create the bonding link
between child and parent, while tearing down the stereotypical assumption wall between man and
woman. In the United States, maternity leave is considering under the Family and Medical Leave Act.
The Family and Medical Leave Act was constructed by the U.S. Department of Labor in 1993. This
act states, an eligible employee shall be entitled to a total of 12 workweeks of leave during any 12
month period for one or more of the following: (A) Because of the birth of a son or daughter of the
employee and in order to care for such son or daughter. (B) Because of the placement of a son or
daughter with the employee for adoption or foster care. (C) In order to care for the spouse, or a son,

Murphy has sympathy for the mother and told Fadiman I remember having a little bit of awe of how
differently we looked at the world . A key feature of the Hmong is that they have no interest in being

However, The Jilting of Granny Weatherall does not focus on Granny s exterior beng, but rather her
interior thoughts and emotions. This personal and in depth characterization of Granny reveals that her
need to be completely independant is the result of being abandoned at an altar by a man she loved. As

The act of George rejecting Granny s vulnerability caused her intense pain, leaving her blind and

revealed that Joh had died and this caused for Granny to once again reject dependency and raise her

British Towns And Cities Overcrowded
British towns and cities were overcrowded. Population began increasing due to more people moving
in. As businesses began to boom and the national markets grew, more people from the countryside
flocked to the towns and the new factories because they wanted jobs. Small towns became large cities
and the city of London grew from a population of 2 million in 1840 to 5 million forty years later. This
resulted in more people in a country (Great Britain) living in cities than in rural areas like never
before. Houses were tiny and densely packed because as new towns and cities began to rapidly
develop, the need for housing escalated. In a rush to build the houses, many were constructed too
quickly in rows and often back to back every scrap of space left by the old way of building has been
filled up and patched over until not a foot of land is left to be further occupied . And if houses being
really close together externally wasn t enough, they were also very crowded internally as a result of
the fast increase in population. Five to Nine people lived in a small one storied, one roomed hut which
was as big as an apartment and families had to share the tight space with other families or even
complete strangers.
British towns and cities were poor. Workers were not paid much at all for almost a whole day of work.
As factories were being built, businesses were in need of workers and with a long line of people
willing to work, employers could set wages as low as they wanted because

The Five Stages Of Team Development
At some point of our academic or professional history, we were required to work with our peers, we
know or barely know. This opportunity are great instrument to learn and expand our experience and
social circle. Initially it could be stressful, and time consuming, but if done well the result would be
extremely rewarding, it is called teamwork.
Insert teamwork definition
Why is teamwork essential?
Five Stages of Team Development
In 1965, a professor of psychology at the Ohio State University, Bruce Tuckman propose the five
stages of group development (Andersen Bolt, 2011, p. 161). Tuckman strongly suggest the norm order
for team to grow as one coordinated group.
Teamwork plays a fundamental role in providing a high quality service and achieving
accomplishments. Most teams usually go through five stages of development in order for them to
successfully meet their group s purpose. Here is the five stages of team development:
1. Forming stage is the first phase of team development. This is the period where the first impression

Jurassic Park Bioethics
The Bioethics of Genetic Engineering and Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park is a story of how this man decides that it is a great idea to resurrect the dinosaurs. The
best scientists came together and took the tiniest form of remains possible to be able to be found. The
DNA hidden in the earth, was invaded by these people. they believed everything was under control
and they were eliminating every single possibility for these creatures to cause destruction anywhere.
They said they were going to make a theme park, enjoyable for everyone; making it possible for
people to see the magnificent wonders we have missed out on in this time. They were wrong. The
creation of the dinosaurs, the Lysine Contingency, and the scientific ethics all played a major role ...

This is the banner statement or scientific ethics in all of mankind. If people stopped to think about if
they should other than that they could, we might would save ourselves a lot of trouble. Jurassic Park is
but one example; abortion and cloning are two big one in the world today. The people created Jurassic
Park only wanted money and the credit for making a scientific dream a reality. They became power
hungry and money thirsty; and it came to them after some work in a shiny box ready to be presented
to the world. Donald Gennaro, the lawyer, states, We re gonna make a fortune off this place. (21:29)
Proverbs 16:16 How much better to get wisdom than gold, and good judgement than silver! the people
of Jurassic Park did not think about what would go wrong; even if it is negative several lives could
have been saved. Thinking about the most miniscule details could have saved the park and made it
thrive; but they were arrogant and would not look past the outstanding work they were doing
scientifically. Ecclesiastes 3:1 There is a right time for everything, and everything on earth will

abortion is more of a cruel act. To think about a life being stripped without its own opinion is

A Critical Discourse Analysis Framework Essay
Methodology A critical discourse analysis framework News is manufactured industrially and deeply
influenced by the bureaucratic and economic structure of the media industry, by relations between the
media and other industries, and by relations with authoritative apparatuses and institutions such as
government. It reflects the prevailing values of a society in a particular historical context and
simultaneously shapes the society in return (Fowler, 1991/2013). Although we cannot simply suggest
an explicit causal relation between structurally determined material and symbolic resources and the
actual cultural practices, a pure linguistic analysis may still overlook the external constraints and the
effects of the cultural practices. The embryo of cultural studies finds its roots in the historical context
of a social structure shaped by industrial capitalism and the increasingly commercialized system of
cultural production, distribution, and consumption. To some extent, the reference to power and
struggle, domination and subordinations is the mantra to sustain and legitimatize the existing cultural
studies literature (N. Graham, 1999). While avoiding the notion that Marxism and cultural studies
form immediate affinity, cultural studies still has to establish itself as a worldly vocation by coping
with the tension between the study of the text and its affiliations with institutions, classes, nations,
races, and genders, and etc. (Hall, 1999a). The representation of the Hong

Government spending on NASA
Around the nineteen fifties to nineteen the world experienced a drastic change in innovations and
technological development; however, the rate of change has had an iota to no change since then. One
of the most recognizable changes is the computer, computers were developed to process calculations
faster and more accurately to give a country an edge in the space race. Another recognizable change is
the Global Positioning System, GPS, which is used worldwide today. Of course, there has been
countless innovations since then, not to mention discoveries that affect how we view the world. The

several valid reasons for this lapse of use. Even though there are several facilities that have most likely
gone unused since the Apollo program, we have to recall that the federal government tells NASA what
their current mission is, which dictates what facilities are used. An example of this is the rocket test

I Stand Here Ironing, By Tillie Olsen And Everyday Use By...
The two short stories, I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen and Everyday Use by Alice Walker shows
two mothers being concerned about one of their daughter and question how their daughters have
turned out to be. The authors show this by using multiple symbols to convey the families relationship.
By this, the authors use the iron, quilt, and clock all to connect how each symbol shows a significant
meaning in the family.
In I Stand Here Ironing, Olsen conveys the symbolic meaning of an iron, which connects to Walker s
symbolism for the quilt in Everyday Use. Both these objects are ironically associated with a mother in
general. Furthermore, in these short stories, Olsen represents the iron as a mother s ability to smooth
out the wrinkles in her daughter s life. By this, the mother states, I stand here ironing, and what you
asked me moves tormented back and forth with the iron . In other words, she throws all her painful
emotions and guilty of not being a mother to her daughter Emily into the iron. In addition, the iron
tries to destroy these emotions that are a representation as wrinkles . Also, as the narrator is ironing
back and forth, the action is used as a flashback as where she went wrong in raising Emily. Similarly,
Walker shows how ironically a quilt is like a mother, in where both share a legacy and are also used
for comfort. In this short story, a mother tries to reconnect with her daughter through their heritage,
but later realizes that she cannot give

The Goals in Issues of Obamacare
The new health care reform law in America, Obamacare, increases the quality, availability, and
affordability of private and public health insurance to 44 million uninsured. It also is working to curb
the growth in healthcare spending in the U.S. which has been rising at an unsustainable rate.
Obamacare was passed in the senate on December 24, 2009, and passed in the house on March 21,
2010. It was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010, and upheld in the
supreme court on June 28, 2012. The concept behind Obamacare was the individual mandate, which
requires that most Americans obtain health insurance by the end of 2014 or they will have to pay a tax
penalty. This concept was first brought about by The Heritage Foundation as an alternative for the
single payer initiative, Medicare . This reform wasn t proposed or expanded until it was implemented
in Massachusetts by Governor Romney. During the 2008 elections, healthcare was a booming subject
for the Democratic party.
The Affordable Care Act includes measures to eliminate pre existing conditions, stop insurance
companies from dropping people when they are sick or unhealthy, expand the Medicaid, and create
state specific health insurance marketplaces to allow those who are in the middle or lower classes so
they can shop for free or low costing insurance. After these several changes, President Barak Obama

company was placing was high for the bargaining power of buyers. The buyers are home storages and

Hotspur Metaphors
In Shakespeare s Henry IV, Part 1, Hotspur, the most talented young warrior in England, leads a
rebellion against King Henry IV while, Hal, the king s seemingly lazy, indifferent son and heir to the
throne, fights against Hotspur for the throne. Hal and Hotspur have a similar ideology as seen in their
common metaphors; however, Hal speaks with various extended metaphors, biblical allusions, and
strategically places his use of verse and prose while Hotspur speaks with simpler metaphors, war
imagery, and mainly speaks in verse. Shakespeare emphasizes these speech patterns to demonstrate
Hal s ability to manipulate the world to his benefit and Hotspur s extremely volatile sensibility, and
thus, proves Hal to be more qualified to rule than Hotspur.
Hal and Hotspur share some of the same metaphors, most notably, their common use of debt as a
metaphor for honor and responsibility, which indicates how they both see these values in a mercantile
fashion. In Hal s first soliloquy, he says he will pay the debt I never promised (I.2.77), a reference to
his plan to act like a drunken thief, so when he becomes king, he will seem like a greater leader. Hal
saying he will pay the debt , or him being an effective king, displays how he thinks that he can easily
exchange his immature behavior for honor and that being a good king can instantly buy the favor of
the people. Also, the word debt implies that Hal believes that the king has an important obligation to
be honorable to the kingdom. Hotspur also uses the metaphor, saying King Henry IV Studies day and
night / To answer all the debt he owes to you / Even with the bloody payment of your deaths (I.3.184
186). Because Hotspur s father and uncle helped King Henry take the throne, Hotspur believes that the
king has a responsibility to treat them well, which he does not fulfill. This illustrates how Hotspur also
views honor as a transaction: when given, it must be repaid. Both Hal and Hotspur believe that honor
can be exchanged like goods, and they view honor, like debt, as a responsibility that must be
maintained, indicating they understand the importance of honor in society.
Hal and Hotspur share a similar ideology, but Hal s elevated language portrays him as more

My Personal Statement On My Life
For as long as I can remember, I was told I could do anything I put my mind to if I was willing to put
forth the effort. My parents played the essential role of providing resources that would instill a good
work ethic and passion in me. While my options are limitless, I have spent most of my academic
career preparing me for a future in scientific research and academia. Enumerable factors have molded
me into the passionate person that I am today, so the answer to Who are you? is not simple but is
rather a culmination of life experiences.
I learned the values of respect, honor, and drive from both my biological family and my church family.
I grew up going to Sunday school in the Episcopal Church where I learned what it meant to have
morals and how to be an all around decent human being. At home, my parents taught me similar
values and lead by example while explaining the importance of kindness towards others. Growing up
in the Episcopal Church has grounded me in such a way that I can find a home and family anywhere
in the world simply by finding a church with the iconic red doors. My spirituality and dedication to
service formed me into a caring person who can never say no to someone in need. The church has
always been my outlet where I can find peace and serenity, so in return I dedicate my time to giving
back in honor of all it has provided for me. The Youth Service Organization (YSO) at my home church

The Characteristics Of Ronald Reagan
World leaders have immense power. Some use that power for good; others use it for evil. Whether
they are looked upon fondly or not, world leaders are still loved by many people. They can inspire
good character, good morals, and responsibility. The best example of this is how people view the
United States presidents. Some of the former presidents are considered heroes, and even depicted to be
on the same level as gods. These people have been so highly praised, that saying anything bad about
them is looked down upon. There are statues and monuments dedicated to presidents such aslike
George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and John F. Kennedy, and
so on. This illustrates the fact thatThe point is, former US presidents are held in high regard. One of
these presidents held to this high standard was the US president throughout most of the 1980s. His
name was Ronald Reagan. Reagan He went from being a typecasted, Good Guy actor, to politician, to
becoming President of the United States of America. Ronald Reagan s background as a performer
contributed directly to his effectiveness as a politician.
One of the character traits that Ronald Reagan embodied was good public speaking. He was able to
convince people that he was on their side and that he was there to resolve improve the problems in the
American government. During his inaugural speech in 1981, he said, government is not a solution to

Essay on Shakespeare as a Real Man in Shakespeare in Love
Shakespeare as a Real Man in Shakespeare in Love Shakespeare has been presented in myriad
versions, from the traditional to the almost unrecognizable. Directors and actors have adapted him as
long as his plays have been performed. Some feel that without Shakespeare´s original poetry,
audiences are robbed of the opportunity to experience the cleverness, poetry, and majesty of the
language Shakespeare´s genius. Others feel that modern adaptations don´t challenge viewers and offer
weaker plots and less complex characters. Shakespeare in Love combines in a way both. The film

The Anti Stratfordians take up the other side of the debate: they insist that a man of such humble
circumstances could never have written the works within the Shakespearean canon. In fact, they posit
that Shakespeare, the actor, agreed to publish the work under his own name for a fee, and did so to
protect the identity of the true author. The Anti Stratfordians believe that Shakespeare was simply a
paid player (The Shakespeare Question). The film effectively undermines this Anti Stratfordian
argument by explaining how Shakespeare could have afforded to become a sharer in Richard Burbage
´s The Lord Chamberlain´s Men. Throughout Shakespeare in Love, Will tries to raise the capital
needed to buy his way into the company. In fact, when Lord Wessex makes a bet with Queen
Elizabeth I about whether or not a play can show the real truth and beauty of love, the prize wagered is
fifty pounds the exact amount Will needs to achieve his goal. Of course, by the end of the film,
Shakespeare´s Romeo and Juliet has proven both the bittersweet truth and unwavering romance of true
love, and Queen Elizabeth determines that Will´s play has won the bet. Nevertheless, whatever the
side we take (either the purist or the Anti Stratfordian), few facts do exist about the life of William

Throughout each season, athletes acquire the drive to win and adapt a successful mindset. In attempt
to get the results athletes want, they learn the importance of working as a team, problem solving,
persistence, patience, and leadership (Chen, 10 Reasons ). These qualities derived from
competitiveness also carry over into life after high school. 82% of female executives played organized
sports after elementary school and 60% of these women execs agreed with the statement that sports
participation gave them a competitive edge in the business world ( The Benefits of High School and

the growth of new and current friendships (NFHS, The Case for High School Activities ). Personally, I
can say that the majority of my friendships began in youth sports teams. Social interactions within
sports also enable encouraging relationships with mentors, such as coaches or captains of the team.
This communication with authority figures provides a base for a skill that is frequently used in future

Twelve step programs are commonly used in drug and alcohol treatment. Alcoholics Anonymous and
Narcotics Anonymous both utilize the twelve steps, along with many other treatment centers. The
twelve steps are used as a tool to stay sober and overcome addictions to substance abuse. The first step
involves admitting one is powerless over the drug. It also involves admitting that due to the drug, one
is no longer in control of his or her life. The second step is coming to the belief that there is a greater
power that can restore one to sanity. The greater power can be anything from God to a higher power
such as nature. The third step is making the decision to turn one s will and life over to the higher

Racial Disparities In Criminal Courts
Racial Disparities in Criminal Courts
The earlier criminal courts started to punish those who committed a crime or differentiated from the
norms of society (NACM, 2017). It was a system put in place to keep order. In the 16th century , if the
person was found guilty, it was most likely going to result in a death sentence(NACM, 2017). Unlike
in modern criminal court, the accused was guilty until proven innocent. The earlier criminal courts
followed numerous laws that displayed discrimination until centuries later, philosophers and policy

Criminal courts are made, to uphold the rights of citizens to have a fair trial when convicted of crime.
Criminal courts are the center of establishing order and creating justice in society (NACM, 2017). It is

McGregor s challenge to box in a ring after months and months of trash talk and build up towards the
so called unscheduled fight. This all started when Conor McGregor was on the Conan O Brian show

Fleet Tracking Essay
X Fleet Tracking Tips To Increase Efficiency Profit
Fuel, maintenance and repair, and insurance costs are all expenses every fleet incurs. The fleet that
manages these costs the most efficiently has a competitive advantage, and will enjoy greater earnings.
Following are three fleet tracking tips to increase efficiency and profit.
Fuel
Fuel is the largest operating expense for fleets. Taking tight control of this expense can bring about
significant economic benefits. GPS tracking systems offer huge advantages to fleet managers because
they make fuel purchases, and use, transparent. Managers are able to view when and where fuel
purchases or made, and by whom. They can view reports that systematically display cost per mile, as

The optimized route details the most efficient, and cost effective course, and deviations from that
itinerary, generally reduce the profit of the load. Fleet management software can include the preferred
fuel stops into the route. Using complex algorithms, the program calculates how far off the route the
fuel stop is, while weighing in the cost of the fuel at that station. Refueling stops, that reflect the least
route departure, at the maximum cost savings, are part of the planned route the driver will follow. This
eliminates many of the deadhead miles that result in reaching an off course refueling station.
Driving Performance
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that driver impact on fuel efficiency is, as much
as, 33%. GPS fleet management systems monitor driving behavior that waste fuel, such as hard
acceleration, excessive use of air conditioning, hard breaking, idling, and driving at inconsistent
speeds. These behaviors often improve when drivers become aware that they are being monitored,
however, fleet managers can trigger alerts for driving actions that are both unsafe, and wasteful of
fuel.
Preventative Maintenance and Repair
Maintenance and repair are the second largest operational expenses for fleets. Professionals advocate
that a rigorous regimen of preventative maintenance is essential for efficient and profitable fleet
management. Not only does preventative

Petrarch and Wyatt Compared Essay
In the world of poetry, imitation occurs at every turn. Many poets will take an original form of poetry
and copy the style. This can be said about Sir Thomas Wyatt who attempts to mimic Petrarch s form;
when the symbols, tone, images, rhyme, and setting in Wyatt s poem Whoso list to hunt are compared
to Petrarch s Rime 190 it becomes apparent that he failed to embody the essence of Petrarch in his
writing. Symbolism plays a large role in most poems. A pure white doe in an emerald glade/Appeared
to me, with two antlers of gold (Petrarch lines 1 2) is a perfect example of symbolism is poetry.
Petrarch is not actually talking about a white deer with golden antlers, he s talking about a beautiful
woman with golden hair. Wyatt also uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I may no more shows Wyatt s sexual desire for this woman and his disappointment in her
unavailability to him. Petrarch s woman is a pure and beautiful woman while Wyatt s is a sexy, impure
temptress. Another aspect Wyatt did not compare to Petrarch is visual imagery. Petrarch has a very
beautiful way of using visual images which he proves with the lines one through four: A snow white
doe in an emerald glade/To me appeared, with antlers soft of gold,/And leapt two streams, under a
laurel s shade,/Near sunrise, in the winter s bitter cold. (Petrarch lines 1 4). The closest visual image in
Wyatt s version is And graven in diamonds in letters plain (Wyatt line 11) which is still very far away
from being good visual imagery. Rhyme is a defining point of Petrarch s poetry with a rhyme scheme
of abba abba cde cde. Wyatt kept the rhyme scheme of the octave but changed the sestet to cdd cee.
There is written, her fair neck round about,/Noli me tangere, for Caesar s I am,/And wild to hold,
though I seem tame. (Wyatt line 12 14) is an example of the changed rhyme scheme. Wyatt also
resorted to eye rhyme which is also shown in the quotation for the words am and tame. Petrarch s
poems held firm to the original rhyme scheme of abba abba cde cde and each rhyme is a complete
rhyme rather than Wyatt s lazy eye rhyming. Petrarch s rhyme

Weight Of Glory
There have been many writers throughout documented time, numerous have gone unnoticed. The ones
that have left a mark have given a repertoire of masterpieces for generations to enjoy. Clive Staples
C.S Lewis (11/29/1898 11/22/1963) wrote many cross genre classics during his published career from
year 1919 through 1962. He was mostly distinguished for bringing Christian paradigms to children s
fantasy books and by defending the religion in Christian Apologetics. Lewis defended Christianity
without tire. Writers like David Lake consider him the most powerful defender seen in (our) century
today for his work both in poetry and fiction ( In text cite for quote). Primarily, he pursued to change
the mentality of those that thought that loving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When C.S Lewis wrote fiction, he did so in an allegorical way. Symbols, hidden messages, plot,
values and/or morals were lurking in his literature for readers to discover and think about. His passion
for theology lead many Christian readers to believe that most of his work was written with hidden
biblical context. Which may have come in direct conflict for this audience in specific; Lewis himself
said In a certain sense, I have never made a story ... I see pictures (Lewis). His theology background
influenced the vivid description of this image, perhaps giving many details that correlate with
Christian values. According to Naomi Lewis, The Chronicles of Narnia specifically the first book The
Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe where we read about and interpret the Christ like role of Aslan,
who dies to save Edmund and rises again and the pilgrimage by the main characters. In addition,
Lewis shows through his writing his personal view: Fantasy and Christianity are not enemies, as the
Christians of old would think; by having centaurs, fauns, real animals, and fabulous creatures pass
with humans through the golden gate in his final Narnia book (Lewis). Controversially, this book is
considered a series for children; yet Lewis lets his imagination roam almost loose when he composed
it, touching taboo subjects that were considered inappropriate for the younger generation of his

Acute Stress Response
Abstract
People deal with stressful situations differently. However, there is an obvious fear when someone
suddenly encounters a frightening situation. The acute stress response is a sudden reaction of the body
prompted by a psychological disturbance over a short period. Most psychologists refer to the condition
as the fight or flight response. When a person experiences a sudden physical or mental scare, the
response is very fast. A person might decide to fight back the terrifying element or to run away, which
signifies the flight aspect of the response (Lee, 2004). By 1920, few people understand this concept
until Walter Cannon tried to establish the reason why an adrenaline rush occurs when an individual
encounters a distressing situation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the mind records such a situation, remembrances and flashbacks become automatic. There are
people who should not revisit a place that reminds them of the situation. Ordinarily, people with
traumatic stress disorder often remember an encounter by revisiting the place of the incidence. On the
other hand, people with acute stress response react in the same way even when they imaging that the
fear factor is around them during a particular time. The condition automatically increases the heart
beat and the blood pressure when an individual associates a scenario with the distressing condition
(Fink, 2000). Some people go to the extent of vomiting or increasing body temperatures because
certain images or objects cause fear in them. The people suffering from acute stress response are likely
to expect the outcomes of an action before engaging in an activity. Largely, this response is normal,
but there are people who sweat and shake before going through the exercise because they fear the
outcome of the activity. There is an element of associating the past with the present, which generates
fear while increasing

Brain tumor detection is a tedious job because of the complex structure of the brain. From the MR
images, the information such as tumor location can be understood. It provides an easier way to
diagnose the tumor and plan the surgical approach for its removal. Doctors do not have a method that
can be used for brain tumor detection and standardization, which leads to varying conclusions between
one doctor to another. There comes the requirement of an automated system for locating tumor in
Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI).
The existing classification methods have limitation in accuracy, exactness and require manual
interaction. So, designing automated system using image segmentation techniques helps make the
detection accurate and efficient.
A new system that can be used as a second decision for the surgeons and radiologists is proposed. In
this system, brain tumors have been segmented with the help of two methods that is Enhanced K
Strange Points and K Means algorithms followed by Morphological Filtering.
The Enhanced K Strange Points Clustering algorithm converged faster with less number of steps than
the K Means Clustering algorithm.
Segmentation of brain image is imperative in surgical planning and treatment planning in the field of
medicine. In this work, we have proposed a computer aided system for brain MR image segmentation
using Enhanced K Strange Points Clustering algorithms

How Does Victor Delamonte Become An Independent Person
Several factors can change a person, whether it is a a turbulent childhood, the amount of wealth one
has, the people around one or the amount of time one has left. In Mitch Auburn s book The
Timekeeper, Victor Delamonte faces the same situations and becomes an independent but conceited
person. Victor is a very independent person; he does not like being helpless and holding on to things.
He hates it when he is powerless. When his wife, Grace, told Victor that he should start using an
electric wheelchair, Victor yelled I don t need it (pg.52). Also, when Victor was on his dialysis for his
liver cancer, he said he hated being stuck like this. Hooked up to a machine to remove his blood. What
kind of position was that for a man like him? (pg.59).

Aristophanes s Speech from Plato s Symposium [pic] [pic] Global Symposium on Engaging Men and Boys on Achieving Gender Equality Rio de Janeiro March 29 April 3, 2009 PART ONE: PREAMBLE We come from eighty countries. We are men and women, young and old, working side by side with respect and shared goals. We are active in community organizations, religious and educational institutions; we are representatives of governments, NGOs and the United Nations. We speak many languages, we look like the diverse peoples of the world and carry their diverse beliefs and religions, cultures, physical abilities, and sexual and gender identities. We know how critical it is that institutions traditionally controlled by men reshape their policies and priorities to support gender equality and the well being of women, children, and men. And we know that a critical part of that is to reshape the world of men and boys, the beliefs of men and boys, and the lives of men and boys. PART TWO: THE PLAN OF ACTION The Evidence Base is There: New initiatives and programs to engage men and boys in gender equality provides a growing body of evidence that confirms it is possible to change men s gender related attitudes and practices. Effective programs and processes have led men and boys to stand up against violence and for gender equality in both their personal lives and their communities. These initiatives not only help deconstruct harmful masculinities, but reconstruct more gender equitable ones. Global research makes it increasingly clear that working with men and boys can reduce violence, improve relationships, strengthen the work of the women s movement, improve health outcomes of women and men, girls and boys, and that it is possible to accelerate this change through deliberate interventions. Working with the Women s Movement: The work with men and boys stems from and honors the pioneering work and ongoing leadership of the women s movement. • 3. Summary Of Code Of The Street By Elijah Anderson Code of the Street is a book written by Elijah Anderson and it is set in an inner city neighborhood in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Living in the inner city, there is a certain system one must follow to be able to gain respect, loyalty, and honor from others around. Anderson discusses in the book the codes of the street and what one must do, how one must act, and the process of what one had to go through to get where they are today. Anderson visits Germantown, Pennsylvania and begins observing the different people, the different stores, restaurants, and shops and begins to take note of it. He starts to notice things like how the shops in Germantown were very open and welcoming and then as he made his way out of the decent neighborhood he began to notice how decorative iron bars were placed on windows and doors and how the crowds of people had changed. To Anderson, it was a status symbol in the neighborhood to warn off thieves and zombies , which are also known as crack addicts, from trying to break in. As he ... What this means is that the cost of the crime can outweigh the benefits. An example of how the cost can outweigh the benefits is when Anderson used the example of the doctor shooting at the intruder in his home. Anderson stated in the book, He came down with his gun and in the darkness announced, I have a gun. . The rumbling continued, so he fired, killing the intruder in his kitchen with a bullet to the back of his head. (Chapter 3, 119) Later, the owner of the home came to find out that the intruder was trying to steal his small kitchen television to sell on the street to bring in money to buy crack cocaine. • 4. Women s March Analysis According to Lauren Enriquez, Democrats have adopted an idea that President Trump stands for division and discrimination, while his opponents stand for love and inclusion. She says that this sentiment was seen in the women s march in January, which claimed to speak for women in general, but, she feels, excluded women who identify as pro life. She also believes that the movement has lost sight of what it stands for, choosing to focus on what they are against instead. She states that most women are pro life, and that they cannot believe in a version of feminism that excludes the ability of women to nurture life. It was an attempt at controlling women and confining them to the traditional childbearing role, as well as a way for the medical profession to remain male dominant, as midwives who performed abortions were a threat to the male medical establishment. An example of a distributorship is when an auto manufacturing company grants rights to a dealership to sell their vehicles (Franchise.com, 2015). Trademark licensing is when one company allows another company to use their trademark (Franchise.com, 2015). • 6. What Is Amanda Evil The Glass Menagerie is a play written by Tennessee Williams. It was first published in 1945. The Glass Menagerie is a memory play, and the narrator is Tom Wingfield. Tom works at a shoe factory to support his family after this father abandoned them. Laura, the older sister, is not only morbidly shy due to a brace she wears around her leg, but she lives in her own fantasy world of glass animals and old records. Amanda, the mother of both children, was raised in an upper class family. She often tells stories about her life and the many gentlemen callers she received. Throughout Tom s memory, the character s frustrations lead to heated arguments, which then leads to a tragic ending. However, instead of evil, I think she is unable to accept reality. Amanda s childhood was spent being popular, and she had some degree of luxury. However, after the Great Depression, she lost everything. I agree that this is hard to accept, and this is possibly the reason she lives in her own fantasy world, just like her own children. • 7. Theme Of Reputation In The Crucible Reputation is extremely important in a town where social standing is tied to one s ability to follow religious rules. Your good name is the only way you can get other people to do business with you or even get a fair hearing. Of course, reputation meant nothing when a witchcraft accusation was staring you in the face. But reputation is what made the Reverend hale begin to doubt whether the accused individuals were actually guilty. And it was for the sake of his reputation and his friends reputations that John Proctor refused to sign a false confession. He would, quite literally, rather die. Although John Proctor goes to his death falsely condemned as a witch, he gains his reputation and respect among those who matter, like his wife, because he refuses to falsely identify his friends and neighbours as witches. The loss of Abigail s reputation toward the end of the play shows that characters in The Crucible eventually earn the reputations they deserve, despite the personal tragedies that might take place along the way. Having a good reputation is very important in The Crucible. It means you can be accepted by society. If you do not have a good name, you will be completely rejected. John Proctor would no longer be thought of a morally straight and righteous person. Reverend Parris would lose all his respect and not be accepted by society. Judge Danforth would be constantly questioned and lose his job. Keeping and maintaining your good name is an overwhelming theme in The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It also shows an example of lovers ending up in a sorry state as their relationship goes badly, as Gertrude dies after receiving the cure for her spookily withered arm. Hardy was also very interested in writing about fate and coincidence in his work for his readers. As this shows in the The Withered Arm . Rhoda feels such a strong dislike for Gertrude, her ex husbands new wife, that she subconsciously grasps her by the arm in a dream. Also, another strong coincidence is that Gertrude is told to receive her cure for the arm by pressing it against the neck of a hanged person. The coincidence is that the hanged person turns out to be Rhoda s own son, who had be hanged for stealing. The son of the woman who seems to have caused the illness, was the same person that offered her the cure, although Gertrude dies very soon after. The Son s Veto presents another moral issue. It was a bloody battle and showed both sides that this war would not be won quickly. There were a few factors that swayed the battle in favor of the Confederacy, such as terrain, weather and technology. The Confederacy was able to use railroads to transport troops to battle, which had never been done before. This allowed them to continue fighting while the Union troops were growing tired and weak. Since the battle was fought on Southern soil, the Confederacy gained the upper hand. Not only did their troops have knowledge of the terrain, they were also accustomed to the warmer, humid climate of the south. The Union also had its share of advantages, one being use of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Union believed that if they defeated the Confederacy no further attacks would be carried out. In addition, President Lincoln aimed to re establish Federal law in the Southern states that had seceded from the nation. He also wanted the Union Army to stop Confederate legislators from meeting in the new Southern capitol of Richmond, Virginia. President Lincoln believed that this would bring a speedy end to the war. BG Beauregard held a strong position in Manassas Junction. Manassas offered railroad access which would lead to the center of Virginia, by way of Orange and Alexandria Railroads. It was essential that Beauregard was able to maintain this position. The weather on the day of battle was hot, in the mid 80 s to low 90 s, and humid. The heat had a negative effect on Union soldiers. The Union Army set out at 2 a.m. to avoid engaging in battle during the hottest part of the day. Many of these Soldiers were untrained in road marches and lacked discipline. They would break ranks to find water, rest or collect blackberries. For these reasons they reached Bull Run three hours late and consequently ended up fighting well into the day. Both sides went into the battle with high morale. • 13. A Software Implementation Of Delayed Lms Adaptive Filter...  A Software Implementation of Delayed LMS Adaptive Filter for Noise Cancellation Prajakta P. Bharadkar, Mrs.Rohita P. Patil Abstract Noise in signal records is caused by various factors which increase the difficulty in analyzing the signal and to obtain proper information. To design specific filters to decrease such noises in signal records is necessary. Hence efficient architecture of Delayed LMS (DLMS) algorithm is proposed which supports pipelining and avoid long critical path. A novel partial product generator and a strategy for optimized balanced pipelining across the time consuming combinational blocks of the structure are used. It also concentrates on minimizing the adaption delay and area. The proposed system is implemented in verilog HDL language using Xilinx 14.2 and simulated using Modelsim simulator. Index Terms Noise, Adaptive Filter, DLMS Algorithm, Critical Path, Pipelining, Verilog HDL. INTRODUCTION The signals are affected with noise and loss important information. Hence, the signals have to be cleaned up with digital signal processing tools before they are stored, transmitted, or played out. A variety of noise cancellation algorithms have been proposed in the literature. This can be achieved in many different ways, such as beam forming, adaptive, temporal, spatial temporal filtering, etc. One of the most widely used techniques is Lest Mean Square (LMS) adaptive filtering. It restores the desired signal by passing the noisy signal through a Finite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Family And Medical Leave Act Throughout time and history women are perceived as a housewife, mothers, and givers; while men are breadwinners, fathers, and receivers. Women have strived to change this stereotype for years, and while sometimes this stereotype disappears for a subtle moment, it always will resurface. Especially, when it comes to maternity leave. Men and women are given an equal amount of time to care for a newborn, but somehow the father returns to work in a matter of days. Why is that, you may ask? It is because America has generalized American into their known stereotype. And because of this, we see men returning to the workforce in a short amount of time. Men, along with women, should have a paid extension from the Family and Medical Leave Act to care for their child, create the bonding link between child and parent, while tearing down the stereotypical assumption wall between man and woman. In the United States, maternity leave is considering under the Family and Medical Leave Act. The Family and Medical Leave Act was constructed by the U.S. Department of Labor in 1993. This act states, an eligible employee shall be entitled to a total of 12 workweeks of leave during any 12 month period for one or more of the following: (A) Because of the birth of a son or daughter of the employee and in order to care for such son or daughter. As businesses began to boom and the national markets grew, more people from the countryside flocked to the towns and the new factories because they wanted jobs. Small towns became large cities and the city of London grew from a population of 2 million in 1840 to 5 million forty years later. This resulted in more people in a country (Great Britain) living in cities than in rural areas like never before. Houses were tiny and densely packed because as new towns and cities began to rapidly develop, the need for housing escalated. In a rush to build the houses, many were constructed too quickly in rows and often back to back every scrap of space left by the old way of building has been filled up and patched over until not a foot of land is left to be further occupied . And if houses being really close together externally wasn t enough, they were also very crowded internally as a result of the fast increase in population. Five to Nine people lived in a small one storied, one roomed hut which was as big as an apartment and families had to share the tight space with other families or even complete strangers. British towns and cities were poor. Workers were not paid much at all for almost a whole day of work. As factories were being built, businesses were in need of workers and with a long line of people willing to work, employers could set wages as low as they wanted because ... Forming stage is the first phase of team development. This is the period where the first impression will initially form. The team begins as soon as they are created. The individuals will be formerly introduced to their peers, they have to work with. Members would still be wary and cautious of their surroundings. • 24. A Critical Discourse Analysis Framework Essay Methodology A critical discourse analysis framework News is manufactured industrially and deeply influenced by the bureaucratic and economic structure of the media industry, by relations between the media and other industries, and by relations with authoritative apparatuses and institutions such as government. It reflects the prevailing values of a society in a particular historical context and simultaneously shapes the society in return (Fowler, 1991/2013). Although we cannot simply suggest an explicit causal relation between structurally determined material and symbolic resources and the actual cultural practices, a pure linguistic analysis may still overlook the external constraints and the effects of the cultural practices. The embryo of cultural studies finds its roots in the historical context of a social structure shaped by industrial capitalism and the increasingly commercialized system of cultural production, distribution, and consumption. To some extent, the reference to power and struggle, domination and subordinations is the mantra to sustain and legitimatize the existing cultural studies literature (N. Graham, 1999). While avoiding the notion that Marxism and cultural studies form immediate affinity, cultural studies still has to establish itself as a worldly vocation by coping with the tension between the study of the text and its affiliations with institutions, classes, nations, races, and genders, and etc. (Hall, 1999a). The two short stories, I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen and Everyday Use by Alice Walker shows two mothers being concerned about one of their daughter and question how their daughters have turned out to be. The authors show this by using multiple symbols to convey the families relationship. By this, the authors use the iron, quilt, and clock all to connect how each symbol shows a significant meaning in the family. In I Stand Here Ironing, Olsen conveys the symbolic meaning of an iron, which connects to Walker s symbolism for the quilt in Everyday Use. Both these objects are ironically associated with a mother in general. Furthermore, in these short stories, Olsen represents the iron as a mother s ability to smooth out the wrinkles in her daughter s life. By this, the mother states, I stand here ironing, and what you asked me moves tormented back and forth with the iron . In other words, she throws all her painful emotions and guilty of not being a mother to her daughter Emily into the iron. In addition, the iron tries to destroy these emotions that are a representation as wrinkles . Also, as the narrator is ironing back and forth, the action is used as a flashback as where she went wrong in raising Emily. The Goals in Issues of Obamacare The new health care reform law in America, Obamacare, increases the quality, availability, and affordability of private and public health insurance to 44 million uninsured. It also is working to curb the growth in healthcare spending in the U.S. which has been rising at an unsustainable rate. Obamacare was passed in the senate on December 24, 2009, and passed in the house on March 21, 2010. It was signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010, and upheld in the supreme court on June 28, 2012. The concept behind Obamacare was the individual mandate, which requires that most Americans obtain health insurance by the end of 2014 or they will have to pay a tax penalty. This concept was first brought about by The Heritage Foundation as an alternative for the single payer initiative, Medicare . This reform wasn t proposed or expanded until it was implemented in Massachusetts by Governor Romney. During the 2008 elections, healthcare was a booming subject for the Democratic party. • 29. Hotspur Metaphors In Shakespeare s Henry IV, Part 1, Hotspur, the most talented young warrior in England, leads a rebellion against King Henry IV while, Hal, the king s seemingly lazy, indifferent son and heir to the throne, fights against Hotspur for the throne. Hal and Hotspur have a similar ideology as seen in their common metaphors; however, Hal speaks with various extended metaphors, biblical allusions, and strategically places his use of verse and prose while Hotspur speaks with simpler metaphors, war imagery, and mainly speaks in verse. Shakespeare emphasizes these speech patterns to demonstrate Hal s ability to manipulate the world to his benefit and Hotspur s extremely volatile sensibility, and thus, proves Hal to be more qualified to rule than Hotspur. Hal and Hotspur share some of the same metaphors, most notably, their common use of debt as a metaphor for honor and responsibility, which indicates how they both see these values in a mercantile fashion. In Hal s first soliloquy, he says he will pay the debt I never promised (I.2.77), a reference to his plan to act like a drunken thief, so when he becomes king, he will seem like a greater leader. Hal saying he will pay the debt , or him being an effective king, displays how he thinks that he can easily exchange his immature behavior for honor and that being a good king can instantly buy the favor of the people. Also, the word debt implies that Hal believes that the king has an important obligation to be honorable to the kingdom. Hotspur also uses the metaphor, saying King Henry IV Studies day and night / To answer all the debt he owes to you / Even with the bloody payment of your deaths (I.3.184 186). Because Hotspur s father and uncle helped King Henry take the throne, Hotspur believes that the king has a responsibility to treat them well, which he does not fulfill. This illustrates how Hotspur also views honor as a transaction: when given, it must be repaid. Both Hal and Hotspur believe that honor can be exchanged like goods, and they view honor, like debt, as a responsibility that must be maintained, indicating they understand the importance of honor in society. The Anti Stratfordians believe that Shakespeare was simply a paid player (The Shakespeare Question). • 43. Fleet Tracking Essay X Fleet Tracking Tips To Increase Efficiency Profit Fuel, maintenance and repair, and insurance costs are all expenses every fleet incurs. The fleet that manages these costs the most efficiently has a competitive advantage, and will enjoy greater earnings. Following are three fleet tracking tips to increase efficiency and profit. Fuel Fuel is the largest operating expense for fleets. Taking tight control of this expense can bring about significant economic benefits. GPS tracking systems offer huge advantages to fleet managers because they make fuel purchases, and use, transparent. Managers are able to view when and where fuel purchases or made, and by whom. They can view reports that systematically display cost per mile, as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The optimized route details the most efficient, and cost effective course, and deviations from that itinerary, generally reduce the profit of the load. Fleet management software can include the preferred fuel stops into the route. Using complex algorithms, the program calculates how far off the route the fuel stop is, while weighing in the cost of the fuel at that station. Refueling stops, that reflect the least route departure, at the maximum cost savings, are part of the planned route the driver will follow. This eliminates many of the deadhead miles that result in reaching an off course refueling station. Driving Performance The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that driver impact on fuel efficiency is, as much as, 33%. GPS fleet management systems monitor driving behavior that waste fuel, such as hard acceleration, excessive use of air conditioning, hard breaking, idling, and driving at inconsistent speeds. These behaviors often improve when drivers become aware that they are being monitored, however, fleet managers can trigger alerts for driving actions that are both unsafe, and wasteful of fuel. Preventative Maintenance and Repair Maintenance and repair are the second largest operational expenses for fleets. Professionals advocate that a rigorous regimen of preventative maintenance is essential for efficient and profitable fleet management. Not only does preventative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Petrarch and Wyatt Compared Essay In the world of poetry, imitation occurs at every turn. Many poets will take an original form of poetry and copy the style. This can be said about Sir Thomas Wyatt who attempts to mimic Petrarch s form; when the symbols, tone, images, rhyme, and setting in Wyatt s poem Whoso list to hunt are compared to Petrarch s Rime 190 it becomes apparent that he failed to embody the essence of Petrarch in his writing. Symbolism plays a large role in most poems. A pure white doe in an emerald glade/Appeared to me, with two antlers of gold (Petrarch lines 1 2) is a perfect example of symbolism is poetry. Petrarch is not actually talking about a white deer with golden antlers, he s talking about a beautiful woman with golden hair. Wyatt also uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I may no more shows Wyatt s sexual desire for this woman and his disappointment in her unavailability to him. Petrarch s woman is a pure and beautiful woman while Wyatt s is a sexy, impure temptress. Another aspect Wyatt did not compare to Petrarch is visual imagery. Petrarch has a very beautiful way of using visual images which he proves with the lines one through four: A snow white doe in an emerald glade/To me appeared, with antlers soft of gold,/And leapt two streams, under a laurel s shade,/Near sunrise, in the winter s bitter cold. (Petrarch lines 1 4). The closest visual image in Wyatt s version is And graven in diamonds in letters plain (Wyatt line 11) which is still very far away from being good visual imagery. Rhyme is a defining point of Petrarch s poetry with a rhyme scheme of abba abba cde cde. Wyatt kept the rhyme scheme of the octave but changed the sestet to cdd cee. There is written, her fair neck round about,/Noli me tangere, for Caesar s I am,/And wild to hold, though I seem tame. (Wyatt line 12 14) is an example of the changed rhyme scheme. Wyatt also resorted to eye rhyme which is also shown in the quotation for the words am and tame. Petrarch s poems held firm to the original rhyme scheme of abba abba cde cde and each rhyme is a complete rhyme rather than Wyatt s lazy eye rhyming. Petrarch s rhyme ... • 45. Weight Of Glory There have been many writers throughout documented time, numerous have gone unnoticed. The ones that have left a mark have given a repertoire of masterpieces for generations to enjoy. Clive Staples C.S Lewis (11/29/1898 11/22/1963) wrote many cross genre classics during his published career from year 1919 through 1962. He was mostly distinguished for bringing Christian paradigms to children s fantasy books and by defending the religion in Christian Apologetics. Lewis defended Christianity without tire. Writers like David Lake consider him the most powerful defender seen in (our) century today for his work both in poetry and fiction ( In text cite for quote). Symbols, hidden messages, plot, values and/or morals were lurking in his literature for readers to discover and think about. His passion for theology lead many Christian readers to believe that most of his work was written with hidden biblical context. Which may have come in direct conflict for this audience in specific; Lewis himself said In a certain sense, I have never made a story ... I see pictures (Lewis). His theology background influenced the vivid description of this image, perhaps giving many details that correlate with Christian values. According to Naomi Lewis, The Chronicles of Narnia specifically the first book The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe where we read about and interpret the Christ like role of Aslan, who dies to save Edmund and rises again and the pilgrimage by the main characters. In addition, Lewis shows through his writing his personal view: Fantasy and Christianity are not enemies, as the Christians of old would think; by having centaurs, fauns, real animals, and fabulous creatures pass with humans through the golden gate in his final Narnia book (Lewis). Controversially, this book is considered a series for children; yet Lewis lets his imagination roam almost loose when he composed it, touching taboo subjects that were considered inappropriate for the younger generation of his ... • 46. Acute Stress Response Abstract People deal with stressful situations differently. However, there is an obvious fear when someone suddenly encounters a frightening situation. The acute stress response is a sudden reaction of the body prompted by a psychological disturbance over a short period. Most psychologists refer to the condition as the fight or flight response. When a person experiences a sudden physical or mental scare, the response is very fast. A person might decide to fight back the terrifying element or to run away, which signifies the flight aspect of the response (Lee, 2004). By 1920, few people understand this concept until Walter Cannon tried to establish the reason why an adrenaline rush occurs when an individual encounters a distressing situation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the mind records such a situation, remembrances and flashbacks become automatic. There are people who should not revisit a place that reminds them of the situation. Ordinarily, people with traumatic stress disorder often remember an encounter by revisiting the place of the incidence. On the other hand, people with acute stress response react in the same way even when they imaging that the fear factor is around them during a particular time. The condition automatically increases the heart beat and the blood pressure when an individual associates a scenario with the distressing condition (Fink, 2000). Some people go to the extent of vomiting or increasing body temperatures because certain images or objects cause fear in them. The people suffering from acute stress response are likely to expect the outcomes of an action before engaging in an activity. Largely, this response is normal, but there are people who sweat and shake before going through the exercise because they fear the outcome of the activity. There is an element of associating the past with the present, which generates fear while increasing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brain tumor detection is a tedious job because of the complex structure of the brain. From the MR images, the information such as tumor location can be understood. It provides an easier way to diagnose the tumor and plan the surgical approach for its removal. Doctors do not have a method that can be used for brain tumor detection and standardization, which leads to varying conclusions between one doctor to another. There comes the requirement of an automated system for locating tumor in Magnetic Resonance Image (MRI). The existing classification methods have limitation in accuracy, exactness and require manual interaction. So, designing automated system using image segmentation techniques helps make the detection accurate and efficient. A new system that can be used as a second decision for the surgeons and radiologists is proposed. In this system, brain tumors have been segmented with the help of two methods that is Enhanced K Strange Points and K Means algorithms followed by Morphological Filtering. The Enhanced K Strange Points Clustering algorithm converged faster with less number of steps than the K Means Clustering algorithm.
