Japanese Myths
Astronomy and Japanese Myths
Throughout history different cultures have let astronomy shape their beliefs and customs. One such
culture that has traditions rich in astronomy is the Japanese culture. Since I am half Japanese, I
thought I would discuss some of the traditions found in Japanese culture. Further, I will explain how
these aincient traditions and beliefs are still present in modern day society in Japan. I found some
really great websites which I will use to write my essay. The first website focuses primarily on
Japanese festivals/traditions and how astronomy plays a part in Japanese festivals/traditions. The
Astrologers Union of Japan homepage is great, but the whole website is written in Japanese. Astroarts

The emperor loved his daughter and felt sorry for her...he arranged(where the idea of arranged
marriage in Japan comes from?) for her to marry Kengyuu(Altair), a prince who lived across the river
of heaven . As the marriage of Orihime Boshii and Kengyuu blossomed, Orihime Boshii neglected her
weaving and this upset and worried her father. The emperor finally decided to separate the couple by
means of the river of heaven , however, for one day out of the year(7th day of the 7th month) the
couple would be allowed to be together. On that day a boatman(the moon) would ferry Orihime Boshii
across the river to see her husband Kengyuu...the boatman would only come to ferry Orihime Boshii
across the river of heaven if she had finished her weaving...id she had not finished her weaving it
would rain and the river would be too flooded to cross by boat. The gods took compassion on Orihime
Boshii and allowed for a group of Kasasagi(magpies) to fly into the milky way and make a magpie
bridge for Orihime Boshii to cross over to the other side and see Kengyuu.

the Japanese lunar calendar. During this festival people write wishes to the gods on strips of paper, tie
these strips of paper to freshly cut bamboo, eat seasonal vegetables, and decorate horse and cow

Outcasts United By Warren St John Based On The...
Outcasts United Analysis Outcast United is a book by Warren St John based on the incredible tale of a
refugee soccer team and how a small town in America transformed to find unity in diversity. The book
Outcasts United expounds the story of the challenges and triumphs of a group of refugee players, the
strength and determination of an exceptional woman who coaches them, and their neighbourhood.
Clarkston, Georgia was an ordinary town in the south until the government designated it as a refugee
settlement centre in the early 1990s. as a result, the town became the first American neighbourhood
for hundred of refugees fleeing the war torn zones such as Iraq, Sudan, Afghanistan, Liberia, and
others. In the long run, Clarkston was filled with a higher number of different cultural groups,
replacing its previous homogenous community. Unlike in the past, now there were women wearing
hijabs, scents of curry and cumin, and children of different colours playing on any open space in the
town. At that time, Luma Mufleh, an American schooled woman of Jordanian descent also resided in
Clarkston, Georgia. It is Luma Mufleh s right actions that resulted in the foundation of a refugee
soccer team, with the objective of establishing unity among different culture groups, and to keep
children off the streets (Outcasts United, 2009). In the story, so many problems occurred for refugees
in their new community, but my main focus in this essay will be how to use specific tools to reduce

However, over 60 years of integration, a distinctive Pakistani culture has sprung up, especially in the
urban areas where many of the diverse ethnic groups have coexisted and ithe country now having a
literacy rate of 55%, up from 3% at the time of independence. Traditional family values are highly
respected and considered sacred, although urban families increasingly form nuclear families, owing to
socio economic constraints imposed by the traditional culture of the extended family.
The past few decades have seen emergence of a middle class in cities such as Karachi, Lahore,
Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Quetta, Faisalabad, Sukkur, Peshawar, Sialkot, Abbottabad, and Multan.
Rural areas of Pakistan are regarded as more conservative, and are dominated by regional tribal
customs dating back hundreds if not thousands of years.
Pakistan s culture is again unique like the rest of the country. Pakistan s geography is the meeting
point of South Asia, Central Asia and West Asia/Gulf. Its culture could be termed as a combination of
sub continental, Islamic, Regional, English, and more recently global influences. Let us consider them
piecemeal. The newly born Pakistan had to have a sub continental leaning, having been a part of for

Ryan Mclean Success
In a perfect world, we would all be successful from the first day of school. However, such a perfect
world does not exist within our reality. For most of us, success is determined not by how well we start
the race of life, but how well we get back up when we fall over. Through failure and redemption
comes wisdom. That wisdom is what makes my stepfather Ryan Mclean, a networker for Broadband,
a success. When asked how he evaluated success he responded, success is determined by how happy
you are and how little you have to worry. If you can survive without a struggle and can find happiness
in what you are doing, then you are successful . What is interesting about Mr. Mclean s view on
success is how it is applicable to any economic group. A wealthy

Jack The Ripper Research Paper
Jack the Ripper, as he has been named, is one of the most notorious serial killers off all time. He
haunted the streets of Whitechapel, England in 1888 and has continued to do so for many years. His
identity has never been confirmed, although there have been multiple different suspects over the last
126 years. The Metropolitan police had various possible suspects but one of the most persistent was a
Jewish immigrant. Was a Jewish immigrant simply an easy target for the Metropolitan police or was
Jack the Ripper in fact a Jewish immigrant? To understand why the Metropolitan police may have
targeted this group we must first be familiar with the background of the killings, have an
understanding of the Metropolitan Police, how they functioned and how they came about attempting
to solve the crime. Then, we must look at the Jewish immigrants and why they may have been targeted
as murderers. Jack the Ripper has been accused of murdering five prostitutes in the East End of
London. Each of these killings happened late at night with the bodies, badly stabbed and mutilated in
most cases, found early the next morning. These five women have since been called the canonical five

a result of being hit in the head on the football field. Former players and their families are starting to

the N.C.A.A. paid a billion dollar settlement, it may not be enough. This is according to Ramogi
Huma, president of the recently established National College Players Association. Not long before his

Women s Rights At Meriwether Lewis And William Clark
Throughout history there have been many honorable mentions of women all over the world, from
Abigail Adams to Margaret Mead. For example, look at Meriwether Lewis and William Clark; history
talks about their expedition across the Louisiana Territory and how they helped expand America, but
in truth it was really Sacagawea s expedition. If Lewis and Clark had gone by themselves they would
have gotten lost, died of disease or killed by Indian tribes, however because of Sacagawea s
knowledge of the land, plants and surrounding Indian tribes the expedition went good. How did this
Native American woman have all this knowledge? The answer is simple, she learned all of this from
her parents. Since Sacagawea s parents took the time to teach her ... Show more content on

The second one I chose to write about was Susan B. Anthony because of how she was raised to stand
up for her beliefs about men and women being equal. The last one I chose to write about was Helen
Keller because even though her parents did not raise her, she had an amazing and kind caretaker
named Anne Sullivan that showed her that even though she was deaf and blind she could change the
world for the better. These women have rightfully earned their spots in history and should be praised
for the sacrifices they made to make America a better place for slaves, women and the disabled.
Sojourner Truth
During the late seventeenth century if a person was not a land owning single white male, they were
treated horrible. This left women and slaves to be at the bottom of the totem pole. Now imagine being
a woman born into slavery, this would put the woman even lower on the pole; close to being equal
with dirt. However, this did not stop Sojourner Truth from fighting for women s rights and being an
abolitionist.
Nell Painter, author of Sojourner Truth: A Life, A Symbol writes about Sojourner Truth s life and how
she was used as a symbol for various movements. Painter shows how religion was a major point in
Truth s ministry about how slaves and women should be treated fairly and equal to men. In Painter s
book, she writes about how Truth gained fame from the Akron women s rights conference because of
her giving her speech, Dat man over dar say dat woman needs to be helped into

Charles Dickens Hard Times Essay example
Charles Dickens Hard Times
Charles Dickens s Hard Times is one of the most important novels in the
Victorian Age. He presents an industrial society in nineteenth century in England. In this age, England
prospers in manufacture and trade because of high technologies. It is also a time of trouble. Industrial
development causes terrible conditions of a working class. The workers are poor and work hard.
Women and children work for many hours.
Dickens also presents bad social condition through his work and also shows lives of city people and
industrial society in Coketown in
England. In Hard times, Dickens has a compassion for the workers and calls for the readers sympathy

After the working hours are over, he and Rachael go back to home. Stephen complains to her that his
life is in muddle because he gets no advantage in the development and wealth of the city that are
created by the workers labors. Their lives are hopeless and have only death. No one, including the
master who prospers by using the workers labors, cares or gives importance to them. They still suffer
the hardship in their lives and works. When he arrives at his home, he meets his helpless and drunken
wife who scolds him. His wife shows the condition of the workers who face the trouble and solve their
problems in the wrong way. In addition, when Slackbridge, the leader of union strike, opposes the
capitalist like Bounderby, and Stephen refuses to join the strike fighting for freedom and for the right
of workers because he sees that strike can t do anything good but increases the tension between the
workers and master, so he is accused of betraying the union and be comes an outcast. Dickens
comments that the union doesn t really understand its members. Slackbridge stimulates the workers
feelings and disunites the workers relationship. The contrast between Slackbridge and Stephen
characters increase the sympathy to Stephen Blackpool. Slackbridge is cunning, not honest, not manly,

Disability In The Age Of Disability
Throughout history, society has attempted to define where disability belongs within the social order
based upon societal interpretation of disability, political context, and economic context. Holistically,
the view and stigma of disability altered through three distinct phases. The earliest thinkers subscribed
to a spiritual model in which disability was believed to be some form of moral punishment. The onset
of the Age of Enlightenment, rather, valued empiricism and experimentation above supernatural
superstition, giving way to the modern interpretation of disability in which society s institutional
roadblocks, negative attitudes, and societal exclusion are the factors which truly disable some
individuals. Specifically, this paper will examine the facets of the first and second phases as well as
the logistics of the shift between them and their effects. Holistically, Enlightenment thinking shifted
the view of disability from moral to medical in nature, laying the foundation for modern day special
educational values. (Atkins and Hayman, 168; Hughes and Paterson, 325 340) The first lens through
which society and intellectuals viewed disability prevailed from pre historic times until the Age of
Enlightenment and largely associated disability with sin and moral punishment. Neolithic tribes,
presumably thriving between 7000 BC and 1700 BC, believed disability to be caused by evil spirits.
Adopting a similar mindset to 19th century medical professionals who endorsed

Mental Changes In Macbeth
In the play Macbeth, the main character s mental state due to the prophecy changes over time. William
Shakespeare portrays Macbeth as different figures though the play. And his main changes are mostly
caused by people around him and also himself hesitating. At the beginning the witches said Fair is
foul/and foul is fair (1/1/11), so even the prophecy seems positive to Macbeth, everything has been
established already. One of the main element of Macbeth s downfall is his mentally weakness.
In Act one scene 3, when Macbeth and Banquo meet the three witches for the first time and knows the
first prophecy about Macbeth being the King, Macbeth was not excited about the fair news:

Reputation and interest has made Macbeth become ruthless. He could do anything in order to achieve
his goal. But still he is not as strong as Lady Macbeth, because of his instability, he cannot bear this
change in such a short time. He started to have the same delusion as he had when Duncan died. When
brains were out, the man would die,/ And there an end.But now they rise again (3/4/95 96). Macbeth is
consumed by his fear. When he sees Banquo s ghost, he has already lost all sense of reason. Such a
huge change in such a short time clearly shows the main reason that causes Macbeth s downfall to the
audience, in such a mental condition, he seems like another person rather than the one who was
intentionally to kill Banquo because of his

Habermas Theory Of The Public Sphere
Having examined and defined mass media and the contemporary democracy it is important however
to consider Habermas theory of the public sphere.
Habermas defines the public sphere as a realm of our social life in which something approaching
public opinion can be formed. Access is guaranteed to all citizens (1974, p.49). It is Habermas theory
that the public sphere helps to facilitate the rational communication of public affairs independently
from the government and state.
Similar to the paragraphs on the mass media and contemporary democracies Habermas himself backs
up the point of the mass media negatively affecting the democracy.
He argues that commercialised media in the new public sphere have turned the public sphere into a
place where advertising is prioritised (Habermas, Lennox and Lennox 1974). A point that backs this
theory up is the way the mass media influences television in a political way, as it is deteriorating the
public sphere (Hart,1994). This opinion is key in the context of explaining the public sphere theory as
it helps to highlight a key point in the modern democracy.
Harts opinion highlights one of the main tools of influence within the mass media, news organisations
influence the audiences view point through what they broadcast on their television channels.
(Quoted in Papacharissi, 2010, p.232) Habermas (2004) suggests that main stream media content have
colonized the public sphere and compromised rational and democratic public discourse. This

President Franklin Roosevelt And The Great Depression
On October 29, 1929, the American stock market crashed after years of escalating in an event
Americans would forever call Black Tuesday
Became America s most severe economic crash yet
Companies quickly went bankrupt, people became unemployed, and the national money supply was
depleted.
By 1932, nearly one fourth of America had become unemployed
National production was cut in half
Soup kitchens, bread lines, and homeless became a regular sight
Farmers were forced to leave their crops to rot, leaving more people to go hungry
Thousands of banks across America closed down
President Herbert Hoover acted on an aloof approach based on his belief that the government should
not directly interfere in economic affairs. He told the public that the Great Depression was just a
passing incident
Because of Hoover s approach and the millions who were unemployed, the democratic candidate
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected with a large majority in November 1932
Despite the widespread panic and waves of bank failures, FDR maintained a calm and controlled
demeanor, motivating many in his inaugural address with his famous quote: The only thing we have to
fear is fear itself
Roosevelt then attempted to end the Great Depression with a series of decisive actions named The
New Deal
Together with his group of scholars Roosevelt called a brain trust, he created a plethora of acts to
provide for people s basic needs
The New Deal consisted of four goals: relieving economic troubles of the

Essay Comparing A Rose For Emily And A Day s Wait
Difficult times cause mental strain for many people. The first method to cope is to try to maintain
control, and the second is to lose all power and spiral into insanity. William Faulkner explored this
topic in A Rose for Emily and Ernest Hemingway in A Day s Wait . Emily Grierson took the second
path while the boy chose the higher road. Both Emily s and the boy s duress resulted in false beliefs
and rash actions.
The young boy s sickness in A Day s Wait caused psychological stress that created a mistaken idea of
his impending death.
The boy s stress stemmed from the notion that his minor epidemic of the flu would cause him to die.
Without overwhelming emotion, the boy asked what time does the man think [he is] going to die
(334). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the thought of his inevitable death, the boy stayed strong with stoic dignity and self control.
While the man tried to reassure the boy, he said he [does not] worry... but [he can not] keep from
thinking about death (334).
Reeling in his emotion, the man remarked that the boy seemed to be holding tight onto himself about
something (334).
The boy tried to remain passive and seemed detached from what was going on (333).
Emily s mental strain caused her sanity to collapse and forced reckless decisions.
Emily s insanity originated from her family and her lack of companionship. Hinting at her insanity,
Emily, when told to pay her taxes, told them to see Colonel Sartoris although he has been dead for ten
years (219).
Emily became crazy without company after her father died and her sweetheart had deserted her (219).
Her great aunt had gone completely crazy adding another component to her madness (221). Her father
had driven away all the young men leaving Emily without anyone to help her cope with pain (221).
Instead of reacting with self control, Emily spiraled downward ultimately leading to

difference between the rich and the poor. It inspired her to work harder and do better with her life.
This is a good example of how things can encourage others to change their ways and how they see

but we know nothing s really perfect, perfect. Also, I learned that it took a while to come up with the

Trends Of Property Prices Are Negatively Tracked By...
Trends in property prices are passionately tracked by economists because it is often a person s biggest
purchase and can also affect the rest of the economy. Property price trends are affected by many
factors, however they are like all other normal goods, price and demand are inversely related, if the
house prices are high fewer people will be willing and able to buy a house. Property prices tend to
increase as time goes by, this is positive equity as the owners are better off. However, as seen in the
2008 recession many people were in negative equity because the outstanding debt is more than the
house s retail value. If consumer confidence is absent it discourages expenditure, because if they
cannot pay, the house could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since there are more people in the UK, and they are living longer, the number of second hand
properties being sold is less, causing the prices of ones on the market to increase.
Dwellings have a high income elasticity of demand, so if the level of income increases demand for
property will also increase. Also, when people s income increases they are more likely to buy
properties than rent, also increasing average prices. There has been an overall increase in house prices
because 20 years ago average income was £19,774, peaking to 24,683 in 2008, then decreasing to
£22,524 in 2014 (source: rate inflation).
Social trends can also affect house prices, recently a trend has emerged for later marriages, the mean
age for marriage has increased by 8 years for men and women since 1972 (source: ONS). This has led
to an increase in demand for smaller dwellings such as apartments, causing the prices of these forms
of residence to rise.
The Bank of England can change the base rate of interest; this will be passed on by banks to the
general public, increasing the amount paid on variable rate mortgages. A higher rate will rule some
people out from being able to afford the house they want, decreasing demand for houses and lowering
the value of ones on the market. Recently, due to the economic crash the interest rate has

The Folly Of Secularism By Jeffrey Stout
The Muslim headscarf, or Hijab has been a matter of ongoing debate and controversy in the secular
state that is France. Secularism does not exist in a vacuum in France it builds upon complicated
emotional inheritance, specifically the negotiation between the religious and state secularism which
appears to continually lead to an image of hostility being constructed for Islam, despite the promotion
of universality that is allegedly key to the French Republic. This essay discusses the Hijab in France in
regard to Jeffrey Stout s The Folly of Secularism and is structured in three main parts. It looks at how
Secularism is intensely debated and contested, the way in which event intellectual, political, social
shifts are changing through analysing firstly the controversy itself, then laïcité. Secondly, through
looking to different aspects of French secular society; law, media and education. and thirdly, as per
Stouts framework, discusses how the topic takes us to the heart of the most pressing issues of today,
Gender politics, French state personality/nationhood and the Islamophobia that is a result of all of
these things. The headscarf affair was generated by multiple social anxieties, namely the preservation
of laïcité. The headscarf Controversy in France illuminates the politics of secularity in the way that it
reaches across all social and political aspects of secular society in France. Overall, this essay will

My Position As A Project Assistant
The focus of my position as a project assistant is document management. The document management
issue I plan to address relates to other project assistants and the remote site monitor for my newest
study. This study is a follow up study to a project that is already in place. All documents in our studies
must go through a review process, and this process involves all members of the team. As a project
assistant my department is responsible for the tracking, filing, and retrieval of trial and onboarding
documents. At the end of the project our documentation is audited, and any issues that arise can
impact the approval of the trial drug.
The main issue that is occurring is our document turnaround time and accuracy has been struggling
due to employee turnover. This can create problems when auditors reference our system to see if the
approved documents were completed in a timely manner, and in some cases is a violation of our
standards to have documents go without updates. For example a medical license must be verified and
on file before its expiration date. Our document training varies by trial; for this specific trial we are
working off a simple document tracking guide, and our own notes from management.
My main goal is to improve and create a better set of tools to assist in our document management.
What I intend to do is update our original guide, and create a more simple tracking tool in Microsoft
excel. I have begun to update our guide by creating screen shots

Jonathan Romney s Access All Areas
In the article, Access All Areas: The Real Space of Rock Documentary by Jonathan Romney, he
mainly focuses on the idea of backstage or behind the current and how it comes into play in rock
documentaries. He argues his points that the backstage of a concert is not a sacred place for celebrities
on and off the screen of a rock documentary, backstage is not a real home, and rock documentaries are
full of unauthentic and cliché scenes. The documentaries show the star on stage captivating the crowd
with their show and onstage antics then show a shot of them coming off stage and the viewers can
supposedly watch the mask lift off and the star s true self is revealed. Romney makes a reference to

Romney emphasizes the documentaries try to convey that the star s offstage self is their purest
achievement because producing music, making videos, and playing shows is not enough to satisfy the
fans. The star is seen as more than a performer, they are seen as an icon or a force that manifests itself
and when the star is on stage performing and not their authentic self, it leaves the viewers confused
with the different personalities. Romney mentions David Bowie and Madonna to be two of the most
transparent celebrities but when they started acting, the several personalities overshadowed their true
selves. Backstage is not an artist s space; it will never take the shape of a home or a place of comfort.
The artist s environment is constantly changing and backstage is the closest they will get to have their
own space and feel some sense of control over it and assert dominance on anyone who invades it.

Clothes In The Victorian Era
The Victorian Era, was an era of etiquette, manners, clothes, money, social activity and tea parties.
Etiquette, manners, clothes, and money were all the victorian era was about. Men, women, and
children were all different and had different roles in Victorian society. Clothes stated who you were
and how much money you had. Men and women had to dress more appropriate and social, but
children were a tad bit more free clothing choices, to a certain age.
The Victorian Era was an era of the wealthy dressing fancy and going to parties, and poor dressing for
the poor and working their butts off. In the Victorian Era women always dressed modestly, rich or
poor, with a long dress and long sleeves. Men in the Victorian Era, wore a lot of morning suits ...

Also if they had good manners or not. Children, in the victorian era, were well behaved and polite, at
times. They knew NOT to back talk their moms or dads. If they did they got whooped.
Clothes, in the Victorian Era, stated who you were and how much money you had. Rich men and
women dressed modestly and wealthy. Children had to dress almost the same, but not quite. Children
got to wear almost whatever they wanted, but as long as they dressed appropriate. Men had more
power but they still were expected to dress nice. Women stayed home a lot of times and acted as the
housewives.
Children were a tad freer, clothing matter. They could nearly wear what they wanted and adults couldn

16 years of age and boys about 15 to 18 years of age.
In the Victorian Era, clothes showed social rank, wealth, stability and style. The rich wore really
expensive clothes. The women always wore big, puffy, shiny dresses. The men wore suits and ties
with a vest and dress pants and black or brown leather dress shoes. If you didn t have nice clothes, you

Open Source Software For Database Server
In this task, I will be looking at some open source software for a database server, Web server, file
server, SMTP server, and an LDAP server. I will go over a few in each category and then make my
recommendations based on the stability and security of the software as it relates to the need of the
First World Bank. First, I will be looking at some open source software for the database server. I am
going to be at the two that I consider be our organization s best options. Those two are MySQL and
PostgreSQL. MySQL is considered the most popular of all the open source database systems. It offers
a variety of database features and is considered fairly quick and pretty secure. It would be a good
choice for the company s database servers. However, unfortunately MySQL does not [try to]
implement the full SQL standard, this tool is not completely SQL compliant. If you might need
integration with such RDBMSs, switching from MySQL will not be easy (Tezer 2014). This makes it
not entirely ideal for current situation. When we take a look at PostgreSQL, we see that PostgreSQL is
the advanced, open source [object] relational database management system which has the main goal of
being standards compliant and extensible (Tezer 2014). For the type of work our company is looking
to achieve, it is very important that our database system be both highly secure and standards
compliant. The downside of PostgreSQL is it is considered slower than MySQL and it is not as
popular.

Bruce Chatwin s What Am I Doing Here
Walking is a virtue, tourism is a deadly sin. These are some of the words uttered by Bruce Chatwin,
the famous author of the book, What Am I Doing Here.? International tourism is one of the fastest
growing industries in the word, and brings over 111 billion dollars annually in the U.S.A., and
employs 1 out of 9 people in developing countries. However, despite the fact these are impressive
statistics, and benefits, International tourism isn t without drawbacks.
While many problems are associated with International tourism, it can still offer some advantages. For
one thing, International tourism can open job opportunities for the native citizens. To demonstrate,
when tourists visit an area, the vast majority of them don t have a clue on ... Show more content on

One prominent problem is that historic sites could lose their value, and get damaged. In other words,
once a tourist visits a historic site, it s most likely he or she won t be back to that site for a long period
of time. Thus, the tourist ends up taking a small piece of wood, or anything that is related to the place
as a memory. Subsequently, if millions of people do the same, then the historic site will lose its value,
and eventually become worthless. Moreover, because of the pollutant gasses the cars, and the planes
release into the air, the tourists could contaminate the locations they visit, especially remote places,
such as islands. Secondly, the tourists might make the native inhabitants uncomfortable. To provide
explanation, because the tourists don t share the same values as the natives, worship different deities,
or cloth in an un desirable fashion the native people can end up feeling offended. Lastly, the
government might decide to focus resources on tourists rather than its citizens. This phenomenon is
largely thanks to tourism bringing a lot of revenue compared to many other industries. Therefore,
making the government spend more money on making the country tourism friendly rather than
improving the lives of the residents. To recap, international tourism can damage historic sites, offend
the natives, and result in the government focusing more on tourism.

Joy Is Not Just Happiness
In our everyday lives, joy has become synonymous with both happiness and pleasure. We have
diminished the meaning of the word by using it in place of the more appropriate terms in order to
provide emphasis. C.S. Lewis takes more literal definition of joy, and so assigns it more significance
in his mind, separating it from any other emotion. Though he acknowledges that oftentimes happiness
and pleasure occur simultaneously with joy, they are not the root cause, nor are they the same
emotion. I think the best distinction Lewis makes between happiness and pleasure is when he states
Joy... must have the stab, the pang, the inconsolable longing (Lewis 72). This look into the root of joy
demonstrates that joy is not just happiness, it is more complex and not always a fully positive emotion.
There can be sadness and longing behind the joy, but it does not diminish the great properties of joy.
Because joy is so great it is often sought, but as Lewis says it is never a possession, always a desire for
something longer ago or further away or still about to be (Lewis 78). The fleeting nature of joy only
adds to the intrigue, as it often comes at the most unexpected times. Lewis recognizes this, as he titled
the book Surprised by Joy. Lewis also thinks that one s definition of joy is constantly changing with
our experiences. As he learned more about some subject, one that used to bring him joy to study, he
realizes that this was something quite different from the original Joy.

The Impact of Rana Catesbeiana in Arizona
The Impact of Rana Catesbeiana in Arizona Invasive species are organisms that are accidentally or
intentionally introduced into an environment, that adapts quickly and disrupts the natural ecosystem.
Bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana) are native to the northeastern part of North America and are some of the
most damaging invasive species. Many cultures around the world eat frog as a delicacy, so bullfrogs
were gathered up and sold around the world. However, some of the species were introduced into
countries around the world. Currently, they have become established in over fifteen countries as
invasive species (Save The Frogs! et al. 2013). Many sources say that the initial spread of this invasive
species began at the end of the 1800 s when bullfrogs were shipped to California to fill hungry loggers
appetite for frog legs. The frogs competed with the other native species with the supply of natural
resources while also consuming and exploiting the native amphibian species as well. Worldwide Rana
catesbeiana has driven over one hundred native species of frogs to extinction (Save The Frogs! et al.
2013). This is a huge impact on amphibian wildlife worldwide because there are about 4,800 species
of frogs. Over the past hundred years the bullfrog has wiped out over 2% of the world s species of
frogs. Studies have shown one of the reasons bullfrogs will cripple Arizonian ecosystems and the
native amphibian species directly is because a female bullfrog s physiology

Neat People Vs Sloppy People By Suzanna Britt
Neat People Vs. Sloppy People
In Suzanna Britt essay Neat People Vs. Sloppy People , she argues that the difference between the two
individuals is just not cleanliness; instead, the difference between neat and sloppy people is moral;
unlike what the perception on the outside, neat people do not care enough and, sloppy people care too
much. Britt says, Their sloppiness is merely their unfortunate consequence of their extreme moral
rectitude (Britt 233). Then, she makes a statement that Neat people are bums and clods at heart and
they have cavalier attitudes towards possession (Britt 234). Britt is conveying the idea that sloppy
people have a stronger moral value than neat people because they set goals that are high and heavenly

Sloppy people like to live a relaxed, calm lifestyle and accept things the way they are. In contrast,
when neat people look for solution to problems and try to fix things that are not right to them. They
also feel that they have to be control of situations and are sometimes afraid to show the fun personality
to others. That s why neat people typically lack creativity because they have a narrow viewpoint on
things and can t think outside the box. On the hand, sloppy individuals are considered very creative
because they take the time to explore new ideas and try new things. Being messy means being more
productivity; for example sloppy have an organized chaos lifestyle that allows them to be more
efficient and productive. Although, on the surface things look messy, but really a sloppy person knows

Reality And Moral Truth In Herman Melville s Benito Cereno
The fictionality in Herman Melville s Benito Cereno draws the reader s attention to the difference
between fictional and moral truth, or the truth as it happened versus the truth as it is interpreted.
Fictionality is when the line between fact and fiction is purposely blurred by the author in order to
illuminate a truth for the reader; it is when the author alters reality to create a more fitting stage for the
story. The truth that is revealed through the fictionality tends to be a moral truth, such as a life lesson
or universal certitude. Throughout this short story, the submerged message of abolitionist thought is
hidden beneath layers of lies, speculations, and altered facts. The story is based on true events, and it
is this idea of a hidden truth underneath the constructed reality that echoes throughout the work. By
changing the year the events take place, the author subtly alters the context of the story, but the
underlying truth remains constant. It is with these clues and fictionality that Melville explains the
difference between factual truth and the deeper truth that transcends moments, events, or even people.
This inner truth is told underneath the story itself, which emphasizes the perception of the participants.
The difference between perception and truth is that one changes with the facts, and the other does not.
There is a truth in something like a novel, a moral truth, that exceeds a purely realistic story from life.
The fictionality that Melville uses to

Lola Lola Meaning
From a respected professor to a cabaret clown, this film follows a cabaret dancer, Lola Lola, who has
total control over her spectators. The film does an excellent job of showing us what to expect from the
plot early on at the beginning of the film. Through the opening scene one can fully interpret the film
as a whole through the various clues left for the viewer. The very first scene focuses on the tops of
buildings and houses where some of theses structures are distorted in the expressionist way. The
building in the very back appears to be a church or synagogue or some sort. The church being depicted
can be associated with morality which is a constant theme being shown through the characters in the
film. Morality in this film is very present ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a sound inserted when the viewer is exposed to Lola Lola as a woman opens up the curtain
for the storefront. The opening of the storefront can be representative of the opening of the curtain at
the cabaret performances, when Lola Lola steps on stage. The poster on the storefront window is also
displayed from the inside out. Those who view the poster can only visually see it. They cannot touch it
nor grab the poster. They can only simply admire it from the outside. This is representative of Lola
Lola and her performances, where the spectators are only there to see. There is no physical interaction
with any of the girls in the cabaret performances, which is represented through how the poster is
displayed only for the eye. The poster is also an unrealistic image of Lola Lola, showing how she
artificially is. The poster of Lola Lola is looking up at her like if she was a goddess. Her long legs
make up more than half of the poster showing that she is up on some pedestal from everyone else.
There are some clouds behind her to show that being with her or around her is like being up in heaven.
There are also what appear to be two little cupids tugging at her from opposite ends. They are
representative of the amounts of men that want her and try to do the most for her. They are also shown
as childlike to depict the behaviors the men have when they are with her. As if they were to lose
themselves, to her just like Dr. Rath did. He completely forgot who he was and how he comported
himself in society. He lived for her and even became part of her show to be with her. The film shows
how people laughed at him for completely losing it over a woman, something that for time has been
inferior to men. Even in present day, women are still given the short end of everything and seen as
inferior. The fact that the professor lost it all over a women represent those men who

The Tragedy of Syria
It was two am in the morning and I couldn t sleep yet. Hours separated us from changing history. It
was extremely hard to control the thoughts spinning in my mind,
What will happen tomorrow? , Is it a start of a new life? I finally slept dreaming that there will be a
new sunrise tomorrow, a sunrise after decades of darkness.
I woke up the next day as eager as possible and went to school. All day thoughts were still going back
and forth. Will we be able to make it? I think I am just over ambitious and it will be a normal day .
Rushing back home after school, I entered my home and opened the news and there it was A protest in
the heart of
Damascus calling for freedom . I couldn t stop myself from screaming. A storm of emotions blew up
my heart. Feelings of happiness, anxiety, tension, and fear were all bumping inside me. A protest in
Syria was literally a miracle as many declared. Syria has been called the kingdom of silence for more
than forty years. What happened was very tremendous, leaving a day Syrians will remember
accurately, March 15 2011.
That was the start, and now who haven t heard of Syria on the news and international news agencies
every single day. More than two thirds of the Syrian cities are destroyed and more than six million
people got displaced from their homes.
Reports show that there is a minimum of two hundred thousand person killed making
Syria the tragedy of the century.
I have lived the severest days since then. What I went through was

The Controversy Of Embryonic Stem Cells
For decades, researchers use of stem cells has caused a controversy and the consideration of the ethics
of research involving the development, usage, and destruction of human embryos. Most commonly,
this controversy focuses on embryonic stem cells. Not all stem cell research involves the creation,
usage and destruction of human embryos. For example, adult stem cells, amniotic stem cells and
induced pluripotent stem cells do not involve creating, using or destroying human embryos and thus
are minimally, if at all, controversial. Many less controversial sources of acquiring stem cells include
using cells from the umbilical cord, breast milk, and bone marrow. (Brunt, 2012) In 1998, scientists
discovered how to extract stem cells from human embryos. This discovery led to moral ethics
questions concerning research involving embryo cells, such as what restrictions should be made on
studies using these types of cells? At what point does one consider life to begin? Is it just to destroy an
embryo cell if it has the potential to cure countless numbers of patients? Political leaders are debating
how to regulate and fund research studies that involve the techniques used to remove the embryo cells.
No clear consensus has emerged. Other recent discoveries may extinguish the need for embryonic
stem cells. With this in mind, we will discover both sides of the issue from a pros and cons point of
view. Stem cell research has expanded at an exponential rate, but its therapeutic

Sign Language Is A Complex System Of Communication
There is not movement that does not speak both a language intelligible without instructions (Mirzoeff
16). Sign Language is a complex system of communication; a language which uses visual gestures and
signs made by one s hands blended with the use of facial expressions, body positions, and other
gestures. Sign Language has played a significant role in deaf and hard of hearing culture and is the
major communication alternative for those whom are deaf or hard of hearing with a beautiful history
of origin. Beings who were deaf did not have a voice to communicate with, but when Sign Language
was created it gave said individuals a symbolic voice. Sign language started a new culture for the deaf
and brought deaf people around the world together. Sign language is seen as an authentic language
therefore, there are many different variations of the language in each country such as American Sign
Language (ASL), French Sign Language (LSF), Spanish Sign Language (LSE), and many others. With
all those different variations of sign language there are also some that sign differently, for example,
Australian sign language uses the two handed alphabet method, while American Sign Language (ASL)
uses the one handed alphabet method ( Auslan ). There are over 300 sign languages in use all over the
world and there is no single form of sign language that is universal because each variation is unique to
its specific region as any other language. Sign language is a remarkable form of communication and

  • 2. Japanese Myths Astronomy and Japanese Myths Throughout history different cultures have let astronomy shape their beliefs and customs. One such culture that has traditions rich in astronomy is the Japanese culture. Since I am half Japanese, I thought I would discuss some of the traditions found in Japanese culture. Further, I will explain how these aincient traditions and beliefs are still present in modern day society in Japan. I found some really great websites which I will use to write my essay. The first website focuses primarily on Japanese festivals/traditions and how astronomy plays a part in Japanese festivals/traditions. The Astrologers Union of Japan homepage is great, but the whole website is written in Japanese. Astroarts has a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The emperor loved his daughter and felt sorry for her...he arranged(where the idea of arranged marriage in Japan comes from?) for her to marry Kengyuu(Altair), a prince who lived across the river of heaven . As the marriage of Orihime Boshii and Kengyuu blossomed, Orihime Boshii neglected her weaving and this upset and worried her father. The emperor finally decided to separate the couple by means of the river of heaven , however, for one day out of the year(7th day of the 7th month) the couple would be allowed to be together. On that day a boatman(the moon) would ferry Orihime Boshii across the river to see her husband Kengyuu...the boatman would only come to ferry Orihime Boshii across the river of heaven if she had finished her weaving...id she had not finished her weaving it would rain and the river would be too flooded to cross by boat. The gods took compassion on Orihime Boshii and allowed for a group of Kasasagi(magpies) to fly into the milky way and make a magpie bridge for Orihime Boshii to cross over to the other side and see Kengyuu. Tanabata, the festival based on this legend is celebrated every year on the 7th day of the 7th month of the Japanese lunar calendar. During this festival people write wishes to the gods on strips of paper, tie these strips of paper to freshly cut bamboo, eat seasonal vegetables, and decorate horse and cow figures made out of straw or water oats. • 3. Outcasts United By Warren St John Based On The... Outcasts United Analysis Outcast United is a book by Warren St John based on the incredible tale of a refugee soccer team and how a small town in America transformed to find unity in diversity. The book Outcasts United expounds the story of the challenges and triumphs of a group of refugee players, the strength and determination of an exceptional woman who coaches them, and their neighbourhood. Clarkston, Georgia was an ordinary town in the south until the government designated it as a refugee settlement centre in the early 1990s. as a result, the town became the first American neighbourhood for hundred of refugees fleeing the war torn zones such as Iraq, Sudan, Afghanistan, Liberia, and others. In the long run, Clarkston was filled with a higher number of different cultural groups, replacing its previous homogenous community. Unlike in the past, now there were women wearing hijabs, scents of curry and cumin, and children of different colours playing on any open space in the town. At that time, Luma Mufleh, an American schooled woman of Jordanian descent also resided in Clarkston, Georgia. It is Luma Mufleh s right actions that resulted in the foundation of a refugee soccer team, with the objective of establishing unity among different culture groups, and to keep children off the streets (Outcasts United, 2009). In the story, so many problems occurred for refugees in their new community, but my main focus in this essay will be how to use specific tools to reduce the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, over 60 years of integration, a distinctive Pakistani culture has sprung up, especially in the urban areas where many of the diverse ethnic groups have coexisted and ithe country now having a literacy rate of 55%, up from 3% at the time of independence. Traditional family values are highly respected and considered sacred, although urban families increasingly form nuclear families, owing to socio economic constraints imposed by the traditional culture of the extended family. The past few decades have seen emergence of a middle class in cities such as Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad, Quetta, Faisalabad, Sukkur, Peshawar, Sialkot, Abbottabad, and Multan. Rural areas of Pakistan are regarded as more conservative, and are dominated by regional tribal customs dating back hundreds if not thousands of years. • 6. Ryan Mclean Success In a perfect world, we would all be successful from the first day of school. However, such a perfect world does not exist within our reality. For most of us, success is determined not by how well we start the race of life, but how well we get back up when we fall over. Through failure and redemption comes wisdom. That wisdom is what makes my stepfather Ryan Mclean, a networker for Broadband, a success. When asked how he evaluated success he responded, success is determined by how happy you are and how little you have to worry. If you can survive without a struggle and can find happiness in what you are doing, then you are successful . What is interesting about Mr. Mclean s view on success is how it is applicable to any economic group. A wealthy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Jack The Ripper Research Paper Jack the Ripper, as he has been named, is one of the most notorious serial killers off all time. He haunted the streets of Whitechapel, England in 1888 and has continued to do so for many years. His identity has never been confirmed, although there have been multiple different suspects over the last 126 years. The Metropolitan police had various possible suspects but one of the most persistent was a Jewish immigrant. Was a Jewish immigrant simply an easy target for the Metropolitan police or was Jack the Ripper in fact a Jewish immigrant? To understand why the Metropolitan police may have targeted this group we must first be familiar with the background of the killings, have an understanding of the Metropolitan Police, how they functioned and how they came about attempting to solve the crime. Then, we must look at the Jewish immigrants and why they may have been targeted as murderers. Jack the Ripper has been accused of murdering five prostitutes in the East End of London. Each of these killings happened late at night with the bodies, badly stabbed and mutilated in most cases, found early the next morning. These five women have since been called the canonical five . There are many cases of people who believe Jack the Ripper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The city of Whitechapel could not support the rising number of people. Two decades after his glory days as a star offensive lineman, Hoffman, homeless and suffering from severe mental issues, drove his bike into oncoming traffic and was killed on November 16, 2015 at the age of 41. The Concussion Legacy Foundation (formerly the Sports Legacy Institute) reports being flooded with calls from former players and their families who are afraid they have or may develop brain disease as a result of being hit in the head on the football field. Former players and their families are starting to connect the dots, because the players are literally watching themselves change, said one of the institute s founders. Sadly, there are thought to be so many former college football players affected that even if the N.C.A.A. paid a billion dollar settlement, it may not be enough. This is according to Ramogi Huma, president of the recently established National College Players Association. Not long before his death, Hoffman told a news reporter who had become interested in his story, something is wrong with me. I don t know what it is, but I used to be normal. Hoffman and his family believed football related brain injuries were at least partly to blame for the tragic unravelling of his life. • 9. Women s Rights At Meriwether Lewis And William Clark Throughout history there have been many honorable mentions of women all over the world, from Abigail Adams to Margaret Mead. For example, look at Meriwether Lewis and William Clark; history talks about their expedition across the Louisiana Territory and how they helped expand America, but in truth it was really Sacagawea s expedition. If Lewis and Clark had gone by themselves they would have gotten lost, died of disease or killed by Indian tribes, however because of Sacagawea s knowledge of the land, plants and surrounding Indian tribes the expedition went good. How did this Native American woman have all this knowledge? The answer is simple, she learned all of this from her parents. Since Sacagawea s parents took the time to teach her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second one I chose to write about was Susan B. Anthony because of how she was raised to stand up for her beliefs about men and women being equal. The last one I chose to write about was Helen Keller because even though her parents did not raise her, she had an amazing and kind caretaker named Anne Sullivan that showed her that even though she was deaf and blind she could change the world for the better. These women have rightfully earned their spots in history and should be praised for the sacrifices they made to make America a better place for slaves, women and the disabled. Sojourner Truth During the late seventeenth century if a person was not a land owning single white male, they were treated horrible. This left women and slaves to be at the bottom of the totem pole. Now imagine being a woman born into slavery, this would put the woman even lower on the pole; close to being equal with dirt. However, this did not stop Sojourner Truth from fighting for women s rights and being an abolitionist. Nell Painter, author of Sojourner Truth: A Life, A Symbol writes about Sojourner Truth s life and how she was used as a symbol for various movements. Painter shows how religion was a major point in Truth s ministry about how slaves and women should be treated fairly and equal to men. In Painter s book, she writes about how Truth gained fame from the Akron women s rights conference because of her giving her speech, Dat man over dar say dat woman needs to be helped into ... • 10. Charles Dickens Hard Times Essay example Charles Dickens Hard Times Charles Dickens s Hard Times is one of the most important novels in the Victorian Age. He presents an industrial society in nineteenth century in England. In this age, England prospers in manufacture and trade because of high technologies. It is also a time of trouble. Industrial development causes terrible conditions of a working class. The workers are poor and work hard. Women and children work for many hours. Dickens also presents bad social condition through his work and also shows lives of city people and industrial society in Coketown in England. They still suffer the hardship in their lives and works. When he arrives at his home, he meets his helpless and drunken wife who scolds him. His wife shows the condition of the workers who face the trouble and solve their problems in the wrong way. In addition, when Slackbridge, the leader of union strike, opposes the capitalist like Bounderby, and Stephen refuses to join the strike fighting for freedom and for the right of workers because he sees that strike can t do anything good but increases the tension between the workers and master, so he is accused of betraying the union and be comes an outcast. • 11. Disability In The Age Of Disability Throughout history, society has attempted to define where disability belongs within the social order based upon societal interpretation of disability, political context, and economic context. Holistically, the view and stigma of disability altered through three distinct phases. The earliest thinkers subscribed to a spiritual model in which disability was believed to be some form of moral punishment. The onset of the Age of Enlightenment, rather, valued empiricism and experimentation above supernatural superstition, giving way to the modern interpretation of disability in which society s institutional roadblocks, negative attitudes, and societal exclusion are the factors which truly disable some individuals. Specifically, this paper will examine the facets of the first and second phases as well as the logistics of the shift between them and their effects. Holistically, Enlightenment thinking shifted the view of disability from moral to medical in nature, laying the foundation for modern day special educational values. (Atkins and Hayman, 168; Hughes and Paterson, 325 340) The first lens through which society and intellectuals viewed disability prevailed from pre historic times until the Age of Enlightenment and largely associated disability with sin and moral punishment. Neolithic tribes, presumably thriving between 7000 BC and 1700 BC, believed disability to be caused by evil spirits. Adopting a similar mindset to 19th century medical professionals who endorsed ... • 12. Mental Changes In Macbeth In the play Macbeth, the main character s mental state due to the prophecy changes over time. William Shakespeare portrays Macbeth as different figures though the play. And his main changes are mostly caused by people around him and also himself hesitating. At the beginning the witches said Fair is foul/and foul is fair (1/1/11), so even the prophecy seems positive to Macbeth, everything has been established already. One of the main element of Macbeth s downfall is his mentally weakness. • 13. Habermas Theory Of The Public Sphere Having examined and defined mass media and the contemporary democracy it is important however to consider Habermas theory of the public sphere. Habermas defines the public sphere as a realm of our social life in which something approaching public opinion can be formed. Access is guaranteed to all citizens (1974, p.49). It is Habermas theory that the public sphere helps to facilitate the rational communication of public affairs independently from the government and state. Similar to the paragraphs on the mass media and contemporary democracies Habermas himself backs up the point of the mass media negatively affecting the democracy. He argues that commercialised media in the new public sphere have turned the public sphere into a place where advertising is prioritised (Habermas, Lennox and Lennox 1974). A point that backs this theory up is the way the mass media influences television in a political way, as it is deteriorating the public sphere (Hart,1994). This opinion is key in the context of explaining the public sphere theory as it helps to highlight a key point in the modern democracy. Harts opinion highlights one of the main tools of influence within the mass media, news organisations influence the audiences view point through what they broadcast on their television channels. (Quoted in Papacharissi, 2010, p.232) Habermas (2004) suggests that main stream media content have colonized the public sphere and compromised rational and democratic public discourse. This ... The first method to cope is to try to maintain control, and the second is to lose all power and spiral into insanity. William Faulkner explored this topic in A Rose for Emily and Ernest Hemingway in A Day s Wait . Emily Grierson took the second path while the boy chose the higher road. Both Emily s and the boy s duress resulted in false beliefs and rash actions. The young boy s sickness in A Day s Wait caused psychological stress that created a mistaken idea of his impending death. Hinting at her insanity, Emily, when told to pay her taxes, told them to see Colonel Sartoris although he has been dead for ten years (219). Emily became crazy without company after her father died and her sweetheart had deserted her (219). Her great aunt had gone completely crazy adding another component to her madness (221). Trends in property prices are passionately tracked by economists because it is often a person s biggest purchase and can also affect the rest of the economy. Property price trends are affected by many factors, however they are like all other normal goods, price and demand are inversely related, if the house prices are high fewer people will be willing and able to buy a house. Property prices tend to increase as time goes by, this is positive equity as the owners are better off. Also, when people s income increases they are more likely to buy properties than rent, also increasing average prices. Secularism does not exist in a vacuum in France it builds upon complicated emotional inheritance, specifically the negotiation between the religious and state secularism which appears to continually lead to an image of hostility being constructed for Islam, despite the promotion of universality that is allegedly key to the French Republic. This essay discusses the Hijab in France in regard to Jeffrey Stout s The Folly of Secularism and is structured in three main parts. It looks at how Secularism is intensely debated and contested, the way in which event intellectual, political, social shifts are changing through analysing firstly the controversy itself, then laïcité. The document management issue I plan to address relates to other project assistants and the remote site monitor for my newest study. As a project assistant my department is responsible for the tracking, filing, and retrieval of trial and onboarding documents. At the end of the project our documentation is audited, and any issues that arise can impact the approval of the trial drug. The main issue that is occurring is our document turnaround time and accuracy has been struggling due to employee turnover. This can create problems when auditors reference our system to see if the approved documents were completed in a timely manner, and in some cases is a violation of our standards to have documents go without updates. I will go over a few in each category and then make my recommendations based on the stability and security of the software as it relates to the need of the First World Bank. First, I will be looking at some open source software for the database server. I am going to be at the two that I consider be our organization s best options. Those two are MySQL and PostgreSQL. MySQL is considered the most popular of all the open source database systems. It offers a variety of database features and is considered fairly quick and pretty secure. It would be a good choice for the company s database servers. However, unfortunately MySQL does not [try to] implement the full SQL standard, this tool is not completely SQL compliant. • 26. Joy Is Not Just Happiness In our everyday lives, joy has become synonymous with both happiness and pleasure. We have diminished the meaning of the word by using it in place of the more appropriate terms in order to provide emphasis. C.S. Lewis takes more literal definition of joy, and so assigns it more significance in his mind, separating it from any other emotion. Though he acknowledges that oftentimes happiness and pleasure occur simultaneously with joy, they are not the root cause, nor are they the same emotion. I think the best distinction Lewis makes between happiness and pleasure is when he states Joy... must have the stab, the pang, the inconsolable longing (Lewis 72). This look into the root of joy demonstrates that joy is not just happiness, it is more complex and not always a fully positive emotion. There can be sadness and longing behind the joy, but it does not diminish the great properties of joy. Because joy is so great it is often sought, but as Lewis says it is never a possession, always a desire for something longer ago or further away or still about to be (Lewis 78). The fleeting nature of joy only adds to the intrigue, as it often comes at the most unexpected times. Lewis recognizes this, as he titled the book Surprised by Joy. Lewis also thinks that one s definition of joy is constantly changing with our experiences. As he learned more about some subject, one that used to bring him joy to study, he realizes that this was something quite different from the original Joy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Reality And Moral Truth In Herman Melville s Benito Cereno The fictionality in Herman Melville s Benito Cereno draws the reader s attention to the difference between fictional and moral truth, or the truth as it happened versus the truth as it is interpreted. Fictionality is when the line between fact and fiction is purposely blurred by the author in order to illuminate a truth for the reader; it is when the author alters reality to create a more fitting stage for the story. The truth that is revealed through the fictionality tends to be a moral truth, such as a life lesson or universal certitude. Throughout this short story, the submerged message of abolitionist thought is hidden beneath layers of lies, speculations, and altered facts. The story is based on true events, and it is this idea of a hidden truth underneath the constructed reality that echoes throughout the work. By changing the year the events take place, the author subtly alters the context of the story, but the underlying truth remains constant. It is with these clues and fictionality that Melville explains the difference between factual truth and the deeper truth that transcends moments, events, or even people. This inner truth is told underneath the story itself, which emphasizes the perception of the participants. The difference between perception and truth is that one changes with the facts, and the other does not. For example, adult stem cells, amniotic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells do not involve creating, using or destroying human embryos and thus are minimally, if at all, controversial.
