The Art Of Liberal Arts
The Art of Liberal Arts
I can t go to a liberal arts college. My parents are conservatives! I told my eighth grade teacher. He
laughed and then went on to explain what a liberal arts college actually is. Like many others, I
believed a common misperception about the liberal arts. In The New Liberal Arts by Sanford J. Ungar,
the writer explains wrong ideas about the liberal arts to a college based audience including students,
professors, and administration. He explains the importance and relevance of a liberal arts education.
Ungar claims that it is a better investment than narrow, specific technical training because it prepares
students for career placement by giving them skills in communicating effectively, thinking creatively,
and understanding comprehensively. I agree with Ungar and I think he successfully explains the
reasons why liberal arts are important and relevant in today s society.
First, the logic of the article focuses on why students should have a balanced, well rounded
understanding of the world to be successful in life rather than having a career based education that is
only focused on one aspect. There were no obvious fallacies found in Ungar s argument beyond the
generalization about costs for all colleges thus not focusing primarily on the financial situation.
Additionally, Ungar uses a 2009 survey for the Association of American Colleges and Universities to
reveal that more than three quarters of our nation s employers recommend that college bound

Federal System in the Philippines
Thesis: The Philippines should convert to Federal Form of Government
It can lead to better representation. Each region is properly represented with designation of distinct
regional opinions within federal decision making institutions. This is usually guaranteed by the
specific structure of the Senate known as the Federal Second Chamber in a federal system of
government. The welfare, interests and rights of the constituents in each region is properly
represented. There is no doubt that every member or resident of a place will be well taken care of
through proper representation. This is unlike the Presidential form of government wherein it is

Regrettably, although each local government unit in the Philippines is given funds, they are not
distributed equally. This is so because many factors are considered in appropriating the funds. The
population, the land area, the income capacity and other factors that prevent a small municipality or
city from developing are considered in the budget appropriation. It assures local development. Since
federalism allowed a shared power between national and provincial governments, allowing provincial
leaders will let them focus on developing their own territories. They will have the opportunity to
decide and be given the budget to improve their local community. The rights of the States or Provinces
are expressed and thus, have more local autonomy to develop. Other than this, the income of a
province can be used in its own alone without passing through the national level wherein it may be
restricted for some purposes. It facilitates fast government services. This is because there are two
orders of government, Federal and regional, each in direct contact with its citizens. It is not necessary
anymore to travel in distance just to avail of government services. With the federal system,
government services is not contained in national office alone but spread by

The Importance Of Behavioral Genes
A number of recent twin studies have shown that our genes, to a surprising extent, influence behavior.
Even matters that naturally seem to be a reflection of one s personal experiences, such as political
stance or religious views, have been proven by various studies to be largely controlled by genetics
(Times Higher Education, 1997). Researchers at the University of Minnesota launched the Minnesota
Twin Family Study in 1979, in which over a period of 20 years, they studied 137 pairs of twins 81 of
which were identical. Through this study, researchers found that about 70% of IQ variation across the
twin population was due to genetic differences among people (LiveScience, 2014); a more recent
study in 2009 also supported this. Behavioural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each child observed the model playing with a Bobo Doll, then were individually sent into a room with
the same doll and a variety of aggressive toys (e.g. hammers, dart guns) and non aggressive toys (e.g.

responses than those who were in the non aggressive or control groups (S. Mcleod, 2014). There was
little difference in the verbal aggression between boys and girls. These findings support Bandura s
Social Learning Theory that children learn social behavior such as aggression through the process of
observation learning through watching the behavior of another person. Famous anthropologist,
Margaret Mead, studied a number of different tribal cultures throughout the 1930s. Of these studies

Organizational Change and Client Dissatisfaction: The Arc Oneida Lewis
Organizations need to be assessed in order to be aware of the problems that are occurring within the

Big Band Swing Analysis
Big Band Swing was innovated in jazz music from 1910 to 1940 when it declined. This was a highly
influential time when mass compositions were produced and many bands sprung to the attention of
North America. From the typical band set up began the emergence of arrangers who became crucial in
leading the band. The way each piece was played had to be worked through before it was ready to
present to the band to begin practicing. Arrangers changed new compositions and old melodies alike
as they pleased, through changing the basic elements like key, instrumentation and form.
Arrangements were usually written in strophic form featuring many repeated sections. The most
popular forms were the 32 bar AABA form or the 12 bar blues. It became popular ... Show more

An arranger from the Big Band Swing era examines every part of a piece, from dynamics to phrasing
to form. Composers brought swing music to life and to the forefront of the jazz scene. The vibrant
sounds enamoured listeners across North America of vocal pieces and instrumentals alike and brought
its musicians to a larger audience. Large ensembles grew in popularity and so the Big Band Swing era
was born. Musicians loved the thick texture and full sound of a large scale band, and it pleased
composers even more so. Big Band Swing was written to be danced to, and the live band helped that
aesthetic visually and audibly. Composers like Ellington had more instruments to compose for and
more players to play independent and contrapuntal melodies. Arrangers began to emerge in each band,
to guide the many members of the band through the composition. The improvisation loving jazz
players moved slightly away from the main melodies until they became difficult to discern. With large
groups of players alternating the track spontaneously it became jarring and individual musicians were
not heard. Arrangers who were skilled in music theory began to notate exactly what each player would
play so the piece would flow better and each voice could be heard. They also chose the form and
melodic expansion of the pieces which the band followed strictly. The themes of the arrangements
were then easily conveyed. Arrangers have an extensive knowledge of music theory and how to read
and write their own compositions as well as re writing previously released tracks. Arrangers liked to
arrange established pieces and rewrite them for their own band to play, while still retaining a
semblance of the initial recording. However they sometimes designed new arrangements for their own
songs, like Ellington who often recorded his compositions a number of times with a new

Hipparchus And The Precession Of The Equinoxes
Trigonometry has been used for thousands of years, but many don t know where it all began and
originated. There were many individuals that contributed to the development of this area of study,
which has created the official study of the relations of the sides and angles of triangles and the relevant
functions of any angles. As a Greek astronomer, geographer, and mathematician, Hipparchus of
Rhodes is known as the person that laid the framework for trigonometry and is famous for his
incidental discovery of precession of the equinoxes.
Little is known of Hipparchus s life, but he had a great impact on the trigonometry course we study
today. He was born 190 BC in Nicaea in Bithynia, which is now Iznik, Turkey. He is listed as a
famous man of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was the first person whose systematic use of trigonometry has documentary evidence, which is
presented from Ptolemy and Theon of Alexandria. For example, he is responsible for the division of a
circle into 360 degrees, the creation of one of the first trigonometric tables for solving triangles, and
the precepts of trigonometry. The table showed how each degree divided into 60 minutes, which made
the radius 360.60/2π = 3438 minutes and the chord function Crd of Hipparchus is related to the sine
function by (Crd 2a)/2 = 3438 sin a. The table of chords, explained in 12 books, is used as a method to
solve triangles without having to solve each triangle from first principles. As an astronomer, he
calculated the length of the year to within 6.5 minutes. He also discovered the precession of equinoxes
with a value of 46 degrees, which is fairly close to the modern number of 50.26 degrees. The
precession of the equinoxes, or the gradual shift in Earth s rotation axis, demonstrates how the earth
wobbles like a top as it spins, which indicates there is a shift in point of direction of the poles over
time. Hipparchus s calculations are able to explain why the north star changes throughout a 26,000
year cycle; at some point of time it was Thuban, Beta Ursae Majoris, and the Polaris star is the north
star now. In addition, he charted the sky with 850 stars and motions of the moon. These are

Calcium Homeostasis Essay
Calcium Homeostasis
Kayla Smith
Anatomy and Physiology I
BSC 1085C Ref# 82458
Calcium plays a very significant role in our bodies. Approximately 99 percent of the calcium in our
bodies is stored in the teeth and bones. Calcium generates about two percent of our total body weight.
Calcium is crucial in bone formation, keeping strong bones and teeth and is known for helping to
prevent osteoporosis. Although calcium is mostly thought about in the bones and teeth, it also plays
important roles throughout the body. The amount of calcium outside the bones and teeth may be small
in comparison to what is inside the bones and teeth, but is very useful in many functions in the body.
Calcium is required in functions such as the contraction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Calcitriol moves to the nucleus of these cells and boost the role of proteins that carry calcium from
inside the small intestine to the blood. Calcitonin does the opposite of the parathyroid hormone and
vitamin D. While the parathyroid gland and vitamin D raise the calcium levels, calcitonin decreases it.
Calcitonin is a hormone secreted by the C cell of the thyroid gland that lowers blood calcium levels by
inhibiting bone resorption. (Lingohr Smith, 2011). Having high and low levels of calcium in the body
affects the body differently. Hypercalcemia is the medical term for high blood calcium. Having too
much calcium in the body can lead to an increased risk of kidney stones, constipation, nausea, and
high blood pressure. People with hypercalcemia may also have stomach, muscle and joint pain. Very
severe hypercalcemia can cause symptoms of brain dysfunction such as confusion, emotional
disturbances, delirium, hallucinations, and coma. Irregularly low calcium levels in the blood are
known as hypocalcaemia. Your bones and teeth will begin to deteriorate because your body takes the
calcium that is stored in your bones to carry out the functions that are dependent on calcium.
Hypocalcaemia can cause fragile bones, brittle nails and can cause frequent muscle cramps. It can also
cause joint pain, and put you at risk for bone disease as you age. Low calcium levels can put you at
higher risks for high blood pressure or hypertension as well as poor

The United States Economy As The Global Economy
From 2010 until the end of 2014 oil prices remained relatively constant. With very little fluctuation
over these four years, the average price per barrel of oil was around 110 dollars. That price has been
more than cut in half within the past year. The price for United States crude oil is now just 48 dollars a
barrel, the lowest it has been since 2009 (BBC News). So what is the cause for this sudden change and
to what effect will this have on the United States economy as well as the global economy? There are
three core contributors that account for this sudden dip in oil prices. These contributors are a low
demand for oil in many countries, specifically Europe, that is caused by a lack of economic growth,
the increase in The United States oil production, and The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting
Countries (OPEC) increase in oil production. With many of Europe s economically struggling
countries the increase in production of oil which in return yields lower prices has benefitted them.
Europe s weak economy is able to contribute to this drop in oil prices in that Europe s currently low
inflation rate and weak economy has greatly lessened the demand for oil. The lack of demand for oil
in one of the most prominent import continents in the world has forced oil manufactures to lower their
prices in order to retain Europe as a top oil export. Large oil exporters do not want to lose Europe as
an export because that would also mean losing billions of dollars per year.

An Argument Against Same-Sex Adoption Essay
The audience I am attempting to persuade throughout my argument is to people in the academic
community, especially people in the psychology department who would be familiar with the mental
affects same sex adoption might evoke. I would also address this argument to people outside of the
academic community who are unaware of the causes same sex adoption could potentially have on the
children involved, in order to gain support for my side of the issue. Adoption has always been an
institution that mainly focuses on the children they take care of and their well being. Recently,
adoption has been a serious issue in society, and each year less and less children from foster homes are
being assigned to permanent homes. However, the dilemma our ... Show more content on

Although many may argue that homosexuals can in fact provide the same environment, I still feel that
homosexual relationships are not truly permanent and for the most part are not a good situation for a
child to be exposed to. As Cal Thomas, a columnist for the Boston Globe states, According to the 2003
04 Gay/Lesbian Consumer Online Census, which surveyed the lifestyles of roughly 8,000
homosexuals, only 5% of those who describe themselves as in a current relationship say their
relationship has lasted more then 20 years (Boston Globe, 21). As this statistic shows, the majority of
openly gay citizens who describe themselves as being in a relationship see the relationship end before
twenty years. Although twenty years is a long period of time, it is also important to think that the
relationships these homosexuals describe are not as much of a commitment as marriage, and involve
no vows. In other words, relationships can end at any time, whether it be a year or twenty years.
Furthermore, Thomas goes on to record that The Bell and M.S Weinberg test found that more than
40% of white gay men had 500 or more partners, and 28% admitted 1,000 or more sex partners
(Boston Globe, 21). This statistic further shows the problematic conditions same sex parents would
provide for a child. If almost 40% of white gay men, a majority in the

Never Surrender By William Butler Yeats And The Cremation...
Never Surrender To those feeling discouraged today about a goal, do not give up. Continue marching
and success may come. After all, others have come before in the pursuit of goals. Out of those who

However, Yeats writes in the last stanza, Though I am old with wandering, through hollow lands and
hilly lands, I will find out where she has gone, and kiss her lips and take her hands; and walk among
long dappled grass, and pluck till time and times are done, the silver apples of the moon, the golden
apples of the sun. Despite all of the years he has spent to no avail, Yeats continues to search, still so
confident he will find her that he has made plans for that day. He refuses to give up pursuit of love and
live the rest of his days in heartache. Due to his dedication and passion for love, he will likely never
stop searching, even though he can. While he may not have succeeded in the text, he might find them
one day. They realize this and continue to wander, as they value love and wish for it with all their

It was a customary practice for men and women to have free and unbound love and romance circle in
the society. But it was determined by the financial prosperity of the individuals. Love was associated
with wealth in order to ensure family security and happiness. It is lucidly depicted in the play in the
form of the love between Mirabel and Millamant as the best instance and even with Marwood and
MrFainall, Foible and Waitwell.Money is a certainly disquiet for many of the characters in Congreve s
play. At the same time, the existence of greed is unveiled in the form of Fainall s desire to have all of
Wishfort s fortune or as much as he can rip off. William Congreve shows a more prominent
connection between familial and romantic love and the desire for money as a means of financial
security to married couples. This is indispensably concerned for it suggests that the sentiment of love
alone is not enough to construct a romantic relationship on or to protect family bonds. Money is really
an essential ingredient of love as money provides for a comfortable life, which then allows one to
enjoy one s love. In the play The Way of the World ,Fainall craves to obtainWishfort s fortune to
support his mistress Mrs. Marwood. Furthermore, Mirabell cannot simply elope with Millamant. If
this occurs, they would lose her £6,000 inheritance, a fact which Fainall intends in his scheme. Even

Small Hive Beetle
The objective of this research is to gain knowledge and disseminate information in regards to the
cultural practices in honey bee husbandry and the management of small hive beetles. The small hive
beetle is known to be an occasional pest species to African honey bees, but they are more of a threat to
European honey bees. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential effects of commercial pollen
dough substitutes on the survivability and reproductive success of the small hive beetle. This new
information will aid beekeepers through the process of selecting diets that are impactful in stopping
the spread of SHB in honey bee colonies.
The small hive beetles originated from infested colonies, and this experiment requires that they be

water. The independent variables are Dadant Artificial Pollen 23, Dadant Brood Builder, and Protein

pollen dough substitute, and how successful the beetles are at reproducing (this is done by counting
the amount of larvae present in each container) will be observed.

Rewards
Rewards
Companies reward their employees with both tangible goods, as well as praise. For example, a sales
department may offer a monthly bonus to the highest earner. Not all tangible rewards come in the form
of money. Some companies host free lunches, or give away company gear to good workers. Many
managers choose to reward their best employees by simply praising them for a job well done, or by
recognizing the hard work they put in to a project.
Workplace reward systems are incentive programs that encourage employee engagement and
productivity by offering bonuses, increased pay, additional time off or other awards for a job well
done. Reward systems recognize staff members who excel in areas such as customer service, loyalty
and sales ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The appreciation of those skills can be a greater motivator than any reward or threat.
Employees need direction. A flaw with consequence based leadership styles is that it doesn t tell
employees how to succeed. It tells them they must succeed, but not how to do so. That doesn t mean
that transactional leadership doesn t work. It just means that employees still need some direction from
above. When leaders are more involved, employees know they can count on them to provide a
direction.
Transactional leadership can encourage unethical behavior. When in their best interest, employees can
resort to unethical means to achieve results. The temptation of rewards and fear of consequences is
compelling. It can encourage deception or illegal activity. Employees may sabotage the company s
interests in pursuit of their own. As a precaution, businesses need to be clear on the terms employees
must work under. Employees are also less likely to resort to unethical behavior when their leaders are
able to earn their loyalty.
This is not to say that transactional leadership does not work. Rewards and punishments are great tools
to motivate. However, they may be far more effective when combined with other leadership styles and
motivation tools. Making employees feel included can provide greater motivation and overall
satisfaction.
The transactional style has always been effective. It has also been overused by many companies.

Diabetes Persuasive Research Papers
Studies continue to show a troubling health trend: the instances of diabetes, particularly type 2, are on
the rise in this country. Characterized by insulin resistance (insulin is not effective in the body) and
elevated blood glucose levels, type 2 diabetes can result in both neural and metabolic dysfunction and
lead to cardiovascular disease. When we eat carbohydrates, our blood glucose levels rise, either
quickly or slowly. Either way, once glucose has been released into the blood stream, the body can
move it out of the blood stream in two ways by storing it or by getting rid of it through uptake by the
muscles. The problem with diabetics of course is that storage of glucose requires mediation by insulin,
and this natural pathway is impaired by the disease. As I discussed in my last blog post, aerobic
exercise has been shown to increase muscle glucose uptake and improve insulin sensitivity. That s
why most diabetes management plans include ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

movements exactly? They are movements that reflect the best aspects of weightlifting, gymnastics,

barbell over and over is not a real life movement. But squatting down to pick up a heavy bag is. And,
these exercises maximize the amount of work done in the shortest time. Of course, if you prefer to go
to the gym (or set up a home gym) to use free weights or weight machines, that s fine to. The idea here
is to simply start incorporating resistance exercises into your diabetic maintenance program. If you

Freedom of Expression and Rap Music Essay
Many issues have come up regarding what rights and actions are protected under the First
Amendment. Rap music should not be restricted on the television despite much controversy over the
idea. Bok says that some acts cause debates, although people may disagree with it doesn t mean it
should be taken away. There should be no restrictions held against playing of rap music. Music that
we listen to constructs the sound track of our lives. The number one killer in creative speech is
censorship. Censorship in music is a topic that has brought about much controversy in the past two
decades. Preventing or punishing speech?is a clear violation of the First Amendment. (Censorship.

If the music is found to be so bad, then why are the parents not using the channel blocker on the
channels that allow the music. Deciding what children should see and hear in my opinion is a parent s
chore and right to decide, not the governments. ?As long as gratuitous violence and sex aren t being
seen with Saturday morning cartoons, then what we have now is fine. When parents choose to ignore
the ratings that are displayed on CD s, movies and television shows, and their children view or hear
something graphic, it is the parents fault not the artist s. There is no doubt that everything we hear and

Not all rap music is about swearing, degrading woman and so forth. Many songs actually have
meanings that the rappers try to portray to people. When artists create music that is senseless it can
cloud people s judgment towards the music type they are representing. A lot of rappers rap about cars,
jewelry, sex, and murder and refer to themselves as keeping it real . So many people believe that rap

Misguided Social Security Reform Analysis
Misguided Social Security Reform The New York Times article, Misguided Social Security Reform,
discusses the proposed social security reform chained consumer price index (C.P.I) as an alternative to
cost of living adjustments (COLAs.) The author explains why C.P.I. will leave retirees in a worse
situation because it researches price changes for the general working population instead of taking into
account that the elderly are not regular consumers who can adjust their spending as prices change. The
elderly have lower incomes and also cannot be as flexible on spending due to their needs are not the

Neonatal Nurse Research Paper
Neonatal Nurse I want to be a neonatal nurse who takes care of newborn infants who were born
prematurely. There are some procedures that may be needed for the care of the baby. What I know
about a neonatal nurse is that you need to have a four year bachelors and masters of science in nursing
degree. The reason I m interested in this career is because I want to save lives and make a difference
in the lives of the infants and their families. This career is something I will enjoy doing even if it can
be sad at times. The information I found out about a neonatal nurse was that their duties include
administering medications, monitoring vital signs and providing vital nutrients to newborns. Most
premature and sick newborns have lungs that aren t fully developed, the neonatal nurse must ensure
that infants are breathing and maturing properly. They provide complete care for babies, such as attend
deliveries, weigh and measure infants, bathe them and monitor their health. They also teach new
parents about newborn care and breastfeeding. Hospital work requires nurses to be composed, caring
and in control every second of their shift. Although neonatal nurses witness the miracle of birth every

Pros And Cons Of Gimo
GITMO is still open because it is a US military base in the Caribbean that provides a strategic
foothold into Latin America and probably irritates the Castro regime to no end. If you are asking why
GITMO is still being used as a facility for the detention of personnel that have been identified as
terrorists or insurgents; that would be because we don t want to house them in the contiguous United
States and there are limited other options for where to move the remaining detainees without another
country being willing to take custody or a military tribunal to determine the guilt or innocence of the
individual in detention.
The promise made by President Obama was a cute promise made by a man who wanted to be elected
as our President, but had yet to realize the undertaking that it would be to actually take to close
GITMO as a detention facility. I agree, that GITMO should be closed as a detention facility because
this should not be the responsibility of the US people to continue playing world police. I would make
the argument for detaining the enemy combatants in the country they were arrested in, but prison

The Freedom of Speech is granted to every American citizen and has been since it was founded in

villagers trying to keep their land from being taking over, but mostly because of poor victims of the
transition to a market economy. This was directly a cause of government corruption due to unequal
distribution of wealth and police abuse. A rioter stated people can see who corrupt the government is

Identifying And Applying The Relevant Law
Identifying and Applying the Relevant Law The relevant law to this scenario is cases that concern
unilateral error, misrepresentation and breach of contract. Unilateral error is applicable when one party
only is mistaken about one of the essentials. There has been an agreement but not true agreement. This
applies to the facts as Wilma has made a purely unilateral assumption that she is contracting with a
man named Tam Tumshie, when actually she is contracting with a look alike named Septimus
Meerkat. This could entail an error as to identity however that error may not be essential. In the case
of Morrison v. Robertson a man named Telford claimed to be the son of a reputable farmer. Telford
asked Morrison to sell him two cows. Morrison ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This case is similar as the contract has not been fulfilled (by payment) and for this reason Septimus
cannot pass on the title of the car to an unsuspecting third party. Misrepresentations can be made by
assertion. This includes impliedly, for example the case of Gamage v Charlesworth s Trustees sets out
that in order to buy goods on credit implies a representation of ability to pay for them and of intention
to do so. Septimus never had the intention of paying for the car and nevertheless, tells Wilma that he
would come back to pay. This is a pure lie which he has tried to do several times in the past as a
trickster, so I do think he deliberately misrepresented himself here which misled her. In MacLeod v
Kerr a crook named Galloway posed as a third party by using a stolen check book to purchase a car.
The court insisted the contract was voidable, not void, as the error to identity was not essential
because the pursuer was not concerned as to who he was selling the car to, he was only concerned
about the profit. Wilma s error to identity may not be seen as essential as I think she would have
contracted with anyone. The only part Wilma s error affected was the process of the dealing giving the
car to Septimus in advance but she would have contracted with any person that was present and
negotiating with her, whoever it may be. As a result, I think the possible misrepresentation is
incidental to the contract and

What Is The Archetypes In To Kill A Mockingbird
Literary criticism is an informed written analysis and evaluation of a literature. Also literary theory is
a means to understand the various ways people read and connect through texts. In the novel, To Kill A
Mockingbird (TKAM) by Harper Lee, the story displays archetypal criticisms through using multiple
archetypes within the work. This criticism displays how reoccurring symbols, situations, and themes
help develop the story. Throughout the novel, the archetypes being the hero, victim, and the tree as a
symbol for friendship are used. The hero archetype is reflected numerous times in TKAM. One
character who shows heroic traits is Scout when the text states, Jem shrieked and tried to catch me, but

Tom Robinson, who was the main victim of the novel, had been defended by Atticus who had said,
And so a quiet, respectable, humble negro who had the unmitigated temerity to feel sorry for a white
woman has had to put his word against two white people s (Lee 273). Tom came to be a victim
because he suffered from the statements that Bob Ewell said and was cheated. Although he is against
white people who have their stories wrong and filled of lies, he is the one who loses the case when this
should not have been what occurred. As a result of this, it causes him to be sent to prison where he
later kills himself. This is due to the fact that this ruined his emotional state which led to the build up
to his death. Similarly, Boo is a victim as his image is ruined by people such as Miss Stephanie
Crawford whose rumors say, As Mr. Radley passed by, Boo drove the scissors into his parent s leg,
pulled them out, wiped them on his pants, and resumed his activities (Lee 13). Boo is a victim because
he is deceived. Since not much is known about him, the town of Maycomb spreads rumors, which lead
to false impressions about him. Also, he suffers by how he is perceived because this leads for him to
not come out and face all of the prejudice within Maycomb. Most importantly he is emotionally hurt
because in the beginning of the story Jem and Scout are curious about him and want to see him when
he does not want to be with anyone at all. Likewise, Jem is a victim as he was being helped from the
encounter with Bob when he was with Scout because it was seen that, Jem s arm was dangling crazily
in front of him (Lee 353). As Jem and Scout are coming back, Jem is mainly a victim since he is
physically harmed from this event by having his arm broken by Bob Ewell. He was targeted by Ewell

wife powered by ambition influences Macbeth into committing a horrendous regicide. Imagery is used
widely throughout the course of the play, creating a three dimensional image of the actions, almost as

`` The Rover `` By Aphra Behn
Between the classifications of virgin and prostitute lay a void, not a range; one could give the entire
freight or nothing . Performed in 1677, Aphra Behn s play, The Rover addresses this twofold standard,
which restricted her female companions sexual cravings to the domain of religious community,
massage parlor, or home. Set free in the upside down universe of Festival, her characters show the
dynamic, entangled amusement required of ladies looking to secure individual satisfaction. The perils
of the pursuit and the play s clean decision, then again, propose at how women neither could nor ought

really stands out because in this time period there are high taxes. Taxes were one of the big problems
in the progressive era. There were extremely high tariffs and the percentage was different in other
parts in the U.S. During the late 1800s and early 1900s there were reforms done Economically and
Socially . Economically, There were lots of Acts published by Woodrow Wilson talking about how the
consumers pay way too much for taxes. The Underwood Tariff Act of 1913 decreased the tax by ten
percent. Woodrow Wilson then enforces tariffs because he wanted to win the election and people liked

An Analysis Of The Torso Of Aphrodite

uniqueness when compared to the other pieces in the exhibit. In this paper, I will be describing The
Torso of Aphrodite, using my own viewpoints and the elements of formal art analysis, in order to
explain the uniqueness when compared to other pieces in The Classical World exhibit.
The Torso of Aphrodite was constructed in the 1st century A.D. and is made entirely of marble. The

As the robe simultaneously conceals and reveals, it blends nicely into the lower part of her torso. Her
body is proportioned smoothly, with no areas of obvious fault or imperfection. I think having those
sensual characteristics adds to her overall beauty.
This sculpture is comprised of marble, and due to its large size it was easier for me to develop an
impression about the piece because I can focus on specific parts in more detail. To understand the
piece, a very visual and detailed perspective is needed. Judging by the way the thighs are represented,
it appears as though she is striking a contrapposto pose, which makes her appear static. She has most
of her weight shifted on her left leg, but not all of it The focal point of this piece I believe is her robe.
It skillfully falls down her left side, while leaving other parts exposed, drawing the main attention of
this piece. Few different types of shapes are displayed, except the shape of her legs and the form of the
robe. The physical texture was smooth throughout the entire piece, partly due to the material it is made
of. There is only this one texture, as her robe and body parts all feel the same.
The title of this piece is Torso of Aphrodite/Venus . This piece was discovered outside of Rome in
1771. Afterwards, it was purchased by a wealthy English collector, who displayed it in his home.
Today, the piece resides at the

Essay on ANS Nervous System
The Structure amp; function of the
Autonomic Nervous System
Introduction:
The organs of our body are controlled by many systems in order to function correctly and efficiently
in order to survive within the environment we live in. These include the heart, stomach and intestines
and other vital organs and body systems. All of the systems in our body are regulated by a part of the
nervous system called the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS is part of the peripheral
nervous system and it controls many organs and muscles within the body. Rather bizarrely we are
unable to determine or feel its presence in our bodies as it is working involuntary, as a reflexive
manner. A common example of this involuntary action is best understood when ... Show more content

Take notice of figure.1 in the illustrated diagram that the sympathetic nervous system originates in the
spinal cord. Specifically, the cell bodies of the first neuron are located in the thoracic and lumbar
spinal cord. Axons from these neurons project to a chain of ganglia located near the spinal cord. In
most cases, this neuron makes a synapse with another postganglionic neuron in the ganglion. A few
preganglionic neurons go to other ganglia outside of the sympathetic chain and synapse there. The
postganglionic neuron then projects to the quot;target quot; either a muscle or a gland.
Two more facts about the sympathetic nervous system are the synapse in the sympathetic ganglion,
uses acetylcholine as a neurotransmitter. The synapse of the postganglionic neuron with the target
organ uses the neurotransmitter called norepinephrine. There is one exception to this, the sympathetic
postganglionic neuron that terminates on the sweat glands uses acetylcholine.
The Parasympathetic nervous system is an antagonist to the sympathetic nervous system. Its primary
function is to give you the ability to rest and relax, in times when you are tired or stressed. The
parasympathetic nervous system works to save energy and allow your blood pressure to also decrease.
Your heartbeat reduces becoming much slower, and digestion can start. Notice again in figure

How Did Andrew Jackson Respond To The Nullification Crisis
The Nullification Crisis of November 1832 was triggered by a disagreement among South Carolina
and The United States. The dispute derived from the Tariff of 1828, which was created during John

  • 2. The Art Of Liberal Arts The Art of Liberal Arts I can t go to a liberal arts college. My parents are conservatives! I told my eighth grade teacher. He laughed and then went on to explain what a liberal arts college actually is. Like many others, I believed a common misperception about the liberal arts. In The New Liberal Arts by Sanford J. Ungar, the writer explains wrong ideas about the liberal arts to a college based audience including students, professors, and administration. He explains the importance and relevance of a liberal arts education. Ungar claims that it is a better investment than narrow, specific technical training because it prepares students for career placement by giving them skills in communicating effectively, thinking creatively, and understanding comprehensively. I agree with Ungar and I think he successfully explains the reasons why liberal arts are important and relevant in today s society. Federal System in the Philippines Thesis: The Philippines should convert to Federal Form of Government It can lead to better representation. Each region is properly represented with designation of distinct regional opinions within federal decision making institutions. This is usually guaranteed by the specific structure of the Senate known as the Federal Second Chamber in a federal system of government. Regrettably, although each local government unit in the Philippines is given funds, they are not distributed equally. This is so because many factors are considered in appropriating the funds. The population, the land area, the income capacity and other factors that prevent a small municipality or city from developing are considered in the budget appropriation. It assures local development. Since federalism allowed a shared power between national and provincial governments, allowing provincial leaders will let them focus on developing their own territories. They will have the opportunity to decide and be given the budget to improve their local community. The rights of the States or Provinces are expressed and thus, have more local autonomy to develop. Other than this, the income of a province can be used in its own alone without passing through the national level wherein it may be restricted for some purposes. It facilitates fast government services. This is because there are two orders of government, Federal and regional, each in direct contact with its citizens. It is not necessary anymore to travel in distance just to avail of government services. With the federal system, government services is not contained in national office alone but spread by ... • 5. The Importance Of Behavioral Genes A number of recent twin studies have shown that our genes, to a surprising extent, influence behavior. Even matters that naturally seem to be a reflection of one s personal experiences, such as political stance or religious views, have been proven by various studies to be largely controlled by genetics (Times Higher Education, 1997). Researchers at the University of Minnesota launched the Minnesota Twin Family Study in 1979, in which over a period of 20 years, they studied 137 pairs of twins 81 of which were identical. Through this study, researchers found that about 70% of IQ variation across the twin population was due to genetic differences among people (LiveScience, 2014); a more recent study in 2009 also supported this. • 7. Big Band Swing Analysis Big Band Swing was innovated in jazz music from 1910 to 1940 when it declined. This was a highly influential time when mass compositions were produced and many bands sprung to the attention of North America. From the typical band set up began the emergence of arrangers who became crucial in leading the band. The way each piece was played had to be worked through before it was ready to present to the band to begin practicing. Arrangers changed new compositions and old melodies alike as they pleased, through changing the basic elements like key, instrumentation and form. Arrangements were usually written in strophic form featuring many repeated sections. The most popular forms were the 32 bar AABA form or the 12 bar blues. It became popular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An arranger from the Big Band Swing era examines every part of a piece, from dynamics to phrasing to form. Composers brought swing music to life and to the forefront of the jazz scene. The vibrant sounds enamoured listeners across North America of vocal pieces and instrumentals alike and brought its musicians to a larger audience. Large ensembles grew in popularity and so the Big Band Swing era was born. Musicians loved the thick texture and full sound of a large scale band, and it pleased composers even more so. Big Band Swing was written to be danced to, and the live band helped that aesthetic visually and audibly. Composers like Ellington had more instruments to compose for and more players to play independent and contrapuntal melodies. Arrangers began to emerge in each band, to guide the many members of the band through the composition. The improvisation loving jazz players moved slightly away from the main melodies until they became difficult to discern. With large groups of players alternating the track spontaneously it became jarring and individual musicians were not heard. Arrangers who were skilled in music theory began to notate exactly what each player would play so the piece would flow better and each voice could be heard. They also chose the form and melodic expansion of the pieces which the band followed strictly. The themes of the arrangements were then easily conveyed. Arrangers have an extensive knowledge of music theory and how to read and write their own compositions as well as re writing previously released tracks. Arrangers liked to arrange established pieces and rewrite them for their own band to play, while still retaining a semblance of the initial recording. However they sometimes designed new arrangements for their own songs, like Ellington who often recorded his compositions a number of times with a new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were many individuals that contributed to the development of this area of study, which has created the official study of the relations of the sides and angles of triangles and the relevant functions of any angles. As a Greek astronomer, geographer, and mathematician, Hipparchus of Rhodes is known as the person that laid the framework for trigonometry and is famous for his incidental discovery of precession of the equinoxes. He was the first person whose systematic use of trigonometry has documentary evidence, which is presented from Ptolemy and Theon of Alexandria. For example, he is responsible for the division of a circle into 360 degrees, the creation of one of the first trigonometric tables for solving triangles, and the precepts of trigonometry. The table showed how each degree divided into 60 minutes, which made the radius 360.60/2π = 3438 minutes and the chord function Crd of Hipparchus is related to the sine function by (Crd 2a)/2 = 3438 sin a. The table of chords, explained in 12 books, is used as a method to solve triangles without having to solve each triangle from first principles. As an astronomer, he calculated the length of the year to within 6.5 minutes. He also discovered the precession of equinoxes with a value of 46 degrees, which is fairly close to the modern number of 50.26 degrees. The precession of the equinoxes, or the gradual shift in Earth s rotation axis, demonstrates how the earth wobbles like a top as it spins, which indicates there is a shift in point of direction of the poles over time. Hipparchus s calculations are able to explain why the north star changes throughout a 26,000 year cycle; at some point of time it was Thuban, Beta Ursae Majoris, and the Polaris star is the north star now. Approximately 99 percent of the calcium in our bodies is stored in the teeth and bones. Calcium generates about two percent of our total body weight. Calcium is crucial in bone formation, keeping strong bones and teeth and is known for helping to prevent osteoporosis. Although calcium is mostly thought about in the bones and teeth, it also plays important roles throughout the body. Calcitonin is a hormone secreted by the C cell of the thyroid gland that lowers blood calcium levels by inhibiting bone resorption. (Lingohr Smith, 2011). Having high and low levels of calcium in the body affects the body differently. Hypercalcemia is the medical term for high blood calcium. Having too much calcium in the body can lead to an increased risk of kidney stones, constipation, nausea, and high blood pressure. People with hypercalcemia may also have stomach, muscle and joint pain. Very severe hypercalcemia can cause symptoms of brain dysfunction such as confusion, emotional disturbances, delirium, hallucinations, and coma. Irregularly low calcium levels in the blood are known as hypocalcaemia. Your bones and teeth will begin to deteriorate because your body takes the calcium that is stored in your bones to carry out the functions that are dependent on calcium. • 12. The United States Economy As The Global Economy From 2010 until the end of 2014 oil prices remained relatively constant. With very little fluctuation over these four years, the average price per barrel of oil was around 110 dollars. That price has been more than cut in half within the past year. The price for United States crude oil is now just 48 dollars a barrel, the lowest it has been since 2009 (BBC News). So what is the cause for this sudden change and to what effect will this have on the United States economy as well as the global economy? There are three core contributors that account for this sudden dip in oil prices. These contributors are a low demand for oil in many countries, specifically Europe, that is caused by a lack of economic growth, the increase in The United States oil production, and The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) increase in oil production. With many of Europe s economically struggling countries the increase in production of oil which in return yields lower prices has benefitted them. Europe s weak economy is able to contribute to this drop in oil prices in that Europe s currently low inflation rate and weak economy has greatly lessened the demand for oil. The lack of demand for oil in one of the most prominent import continents in the world has forced oil manufactures to lower their prices in order to retain Europe as a top oil export. Large oil exporters do not want to lose Europe as an export because that would also mean losing billions of dollars per year. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As this statistic shows, the majority of openly gay citizens who describe themselves as being in a relationship see the relationship end before twenty years. Although twenty years is a long period of time, it is also important to think that the relationships these homosexuals describe are not as much of a commitment as marriage, and involve no vows. In other words, relationships can end at any time, whether it be a year or twenty years. Furthermore, Thomas goes on to record that The Bell and M.S Weinberg test found that more than 40% of white gay men had 500 or more partners, and 28% admitted 1,000 or more sex partners (Boston Globe, 21). When we eat carbohydrates, our blood glucose levels rise, either quickly or slowly. Either way, once glucose has been released into the blood stream, the body can move it out of the blood stream in two ways by storing it or by getting rid of it through uptake by the muscles. The reason I m interested in this career is because I want to save lives and make a difference in the lives of the infants and their families. This career is something I will enjoy doing even if it can be sad at times. The information I found out about a neonatal nurse was that their duties include administering medications, monitoring vital signs and providing vital nutrients to newborns. Most premature and sick newborns have lungs that aren t fully developed, the neonatal nurse must ensure that infants are breathing and maturing properly. They provide complete care for babies, such as attend deliveries, weigh and measure infants, bathe them and monitor their health. They also teach new parents about newborn care and breastfeeding. Hospital work requires nurses to be composed, caring and in control every second of their shift. Although neonatal nurses witness the miracle of birth every day, they also view untimely ... • 25. Pros And Cons Of Gimo GITMO is still open because it is a US military base in the Caribbean that provides a strategic foothold into Latin America and probably irritates the Castro regime to no end. If you are asking why GITMO is still being used as a facility for the detention of personnel that have been identified as terrorists or insurgents; that would be because we don t want to house them in the contiguous United States and there are limited other options for where to move the remaining detainees without another country being willing to take custody or a military tribunal to determine the guilt or innocence of the individual in detention. The promise made by President Obama was a cute promise made by a man who wanted to be elected as our President, but had yet to realize the undertaking that it would be to actually take to close GITMO as a detention facility. I agree, that GITMO should be closed as a detention facility because this should not be the responsibility of the US people to continue playing world police. I would make the argument for detaining the enemy combatants in the country they were arrested in, but prison breaks are not unheard of from facilities in Iraq and probably Afghanistan (Arrango Schmitt.) China, as a communist nation, retains most individual freedom rights from its citizens. Although in the Peoples Republic of China s (PRC) 1982 constitution, people are guaranteed Freedom of Expression and Press; it is often violated by the current corrupt government. The government demands the news to be 80% positive and 20% negative, altering the facts n occasion. However, this problem originated before those riots occurred. 5 years before that happened; a more famous incident took place, the Tiananmen Square Massacre. • 27. Identifying And Applying The Relevant Law Identifying and Applying the Relevant Law The relevant law to this scenario is cases that concern unilateral error, misrepresentation and breach of contract. Unilateral error is applicable when one party only is mistaken about one of the essentials. There has been an agreement but not true agreement. This applies to the facts as Wilma has made a purely unilateral assumption that she is contracting with a man named Tam Tumshie, when actually she is contracting with a look alike named Septimus Meerkat. This could entail an error as to identity however that error may not be essential. In the case of Morrison v. Robertson a man named Telford claimed to be the son of a reputable farmer. Telford asked Morrison to sell him two cows. Morrison ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This case is similar as the contract has not been fulfilled (by payment) and for this reason Septimus cannot pass on the title of the car to an unsuspecting third party. Misrepresentations can be made by assertion. This includes impliedly, for example the case of Gamage v Charlesworth s Trustees sets out that in order to buy goods on credit implies a representation of ability to pay for them and of intention to do so. Septimus never had the intention of paying for the car and nevertheless, tells Wilma that he would come back to pay. This is a pure lie which he has tried to do several times in the past as a trickster, so I do think he deliberately misrepresented himself here which misled her. In MacLeod v Kerr a crook named Galloway posed as a third party by using a stolen check book to purchase a car. The court insisted the contract was voidable, not void, as the error to identity was not essential because the pursuer was not concerned as to who he was selling the car to, he was only concerned about the profit. Wilma s error to identity may not be seen as essential as I think she would have contracted with anyone. The only part Wilma s error affected was the process of the dealing giving the car to Septimus in advance but she would have contracted with any person that was present and negotiating with her, whoever it may be. As a result, I think the possible misrepresentation is incidental to the contract and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also literary theory is a means to understand the various ways people read and connect through texts. In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird (TKAM) by Harper Lee, the story displays archetypal criticisms through using multiple archetypes within the work. This criticism displays how reoccurring symbols, situations, and themes help develop the story. Throughout the novel, the archetypes being the hero, victim, and the tree as a symbol for friendship are used. The hero archetype is reflected numerous times in TKAM. Tom came to be a victim because he suffered from the statements that Bob Ewell said and was cheated. Although he is against white people who have their stories wrong and filled of lies, he is the one who loses the case when this should not have been what occurred. As a result of this, it causes him to be sent to prison where he later kills himself. This is due to the fact that this ruined his emotional state which led to the build up to his death. Similarly, Boo is a victim as his image is ruined by people such as Miss Stephanie Crawford whose rumors say, As Mr. Radley passed by, Boo drove the scissors into his parent s leg, pulled them out, wiped them on his pants, and resumed his activities (Lee 13). Boo is a victim because he is deceived. Since not much is known about him, the town of Maycomb spreads rumors, which lead to false impressions about him. Also, he suffers by how he is perceived because this leads for him to not come out and face all of the prejudice within Maycomb. Most importantly he is emotionally hurt because in the beginning of the story Jem and Scout are curious about him and want to see him when he does not want to be with anyone at all. Likewise, Jem is a victim as he was being helped from the encounter with Bob when he was with Scout because it was seen that, Jem s arm was dangling crazily in front of him (Lee 353). Essay on ANS Nervous System The Structure amp; function of the Autonomic Nervous System Introduction: The organs of our body are controlled by many systems in order to function correctly and efficiently in order to survive within the environment we live in. These include the heart, stomach and intestines and other vital organs and body systems. All of the systems in our body are regulated by a part of the nervous system called the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS is part of the peripheral nervous system and it controls many organs and muscles within the body. Take notice of figure.1 in the illustrated diagram that the sympathetic nervous system originates in the spinal cord. Specifically, the cell bodies of the first neuron are located in the thoracic and lumbar spinal cord. Axons from these neurons project to a chain of ganglia located near the spinal cord. In most cases, this neuron makes a synapse with another postganglionic neuron in the ganglion. A few preganglionic neurons go to other ganglia outside of the sympathetic chain and synapse there. The postganglionic neuron then projects to the quot;target quot; either a muscle or a gland. Two more facts about the sympathetic nervous system are the synapse in the sympathetic ganglion, uses acetylcholine as a neurotransmitter. The synapse of the postganglionic neuron with the target organ uses the neurotransmitter called norepinephrine. There is one exception to this, the sympathetic postganglionic neuron that terminates on the sweat glands uses acetylcholine.
