ABSTRACT While the 1940s saw the Golden Age of Comics, the Graphic Novel (GN), a sub set of
comics is now the fastest growing book genre in the US. The potential pedagogical value of Comics
and GNs have caught the attention of the English Language Teaching (ELT) community. In the last
decade many experimental language instructors have realised that Comics and GNs can be a valuable
teaching tool in the classroom that can facilitate Basic Interpersonal Communicative Skills (BICS) as
well as Intercultural Communicative Competence (ICC) in learners. Though there is substantial
research expounding the advantages of using Comics and GNs for ELT, these texts have not yet
become an integral part of school and college curricula. Against such a background this paper
highlights the reasons why it is imperative that the Indian education system should include Comics
and GNs in the language learner s curriculum. Authentic texts like Comics and GNs will help in
acquiring language proficiency by increasing learner motivation, facilitating contextual understanding,
elucidating on conversational maxims and providing input on cultural interactions. The narrative
material of Comics and GNs is so diverse that it can appeal both to young and adult learners, while

of a Dead Man s Pockets by Jack Finney, The Leap by Louise Erdrich, and The Trip by Laila Lalami,
all have their similarities and differences on several aspects. This can be demonstrated through the
topics of setting, conflict, characters, and theme. These topics help make up the plot of each story. No
story is the same, but they can have similar messages or themes meant for the audience. Some can
argue that these three short stories are completely different, but other individuals differ. These main

This unit is designed for a twelfth grade honors British literature class. These students are extremely
gifted and will be taking the AP exam for college credit towards the end of the school year. The
students will be learning about the dynamic and static characters in the book. They will be identifying
how the dynamic character changes throughout the story and how the static characters stay the same.
This is important because these students are undergoing major changes in their lives at this point; they
will be attending college next year and taking a big leap into the somewhat unknown. I want the
students to be able to see the difference between change and what is stagnant. The students will also
be able to chart the progression, or lack thereof in the main characters. The students have prior
knowledge of this short story and have had lessons that go over dynamic and static character traits. I

After watching the three videos, I had a very differing opinions about all of them. The one that stuck
out to me the most, and certainly not in a good way, was the Thinking Out Loud video. Obviously, the
interpreter was not qualified to be doing that type of work. After watching the video, the first time
with the sound on, I watched it again with the sound off to see if I could understand her signing.
Unfortunately, I did not understand what she was saying. In terms of ethical considerations, or in this
case lack thereof, there is absolutely no regard toward assuring equal access to her consumers. I do not

His facial expressions and use of non manual markers were much greater than those of the other two
videos. He was very easy to understand and used very strong ASL. Per this assignment, I interviewed
a Deaf individual named Alyssa Kovatch. Her reactions to the videos were nearly identical to mine.
We thought the same things about the videos, especially the Thinking Out Loud one. During our
FaceTime interview, Alyssa said she was Awful and that she Could not understand the video at all
unless [she] read the captions. She also said that she did not like how in the Boston Blizzard video she
had to read the captions for the whole first part of the video since the interpreter was not shown until
later. Even when the interpreter was being shown, Alyssa said it was difficult to see her. She said that
in emergency situations it is absolutely important for interpreters to be shown in focus, or at least on

Aids for reminiscence and leisure: multimedia software is available to evoke memories and stimulate
conversation, by showing photographs or films about how life used to be, and playing music that is

We would like to begin by thanking the United Nations for giving us this opportunity to speak. Joining

Dreams have only one owner at a time. That s why dreamers are lonely. What Erma Bombeck meant
by this statement is that that even though everyone has their own personal dream, dreams can take up
a lot of someone s time. All that time lost can make someone lonely and disconnected from the real
world. A dreamer can be lonely for his lack of human interaction and creates their fantasies. In 19th

If they are in their own world the reality cannot hurt him nor knows what would make them
vulnerable. Piskarev is addicted to his dreams of a prostitutes he develops insomnia, to control it he
takes opium. He does this in order to see his dream woman again in his dreams. When Piskarev came

narrator proclaims I walked about all night. I couldn t bring myself to go home. I was so happy! Til
tomorrow. (Dostoevsky P 15) This was written at the end of the first night, however by the third night
he still felt the same way. The narrator says to the reader that I came to her with a full heart; I could
scarcely wait for our meeting....I little dreamt it would end quite differently. (Dostoevsky P 41) Here
they are expecting an answer to the letter but scarcely wanted a different ending to their original plan.

Common Mistakes In My Writing
While taking this course I ve wrote several papers on subjects that were not typically topics I would
do a paper on. After the professor proofed my paper I started to notice a trend in my work. So, going
forward I will strive to do my best and fix those common mistakes I easily make. As I continue my
writing as an adult, I will ensure that a clear thesis is presented, the paper has a good proofing, and
finally the MLA style is implied.
My first paper on taking on line classes what was consistent was the paper was not scrubbed that well.
After seeing the mistakes pointed out I wanted to kick myself in the butt because I knew these
mistakes were not acceptable, but I submitted the paper anyways. To my defense, when I read my own
