Examples Of Pathos By Cesar Chavez
I have found that words that are loaded with pathos and create a seductive euphoric are apt to
promote nonsense (Gunter Grass). Cesar Chavez proves that ethos and pathos can actually be very
effective in promoting their case. In an article he wrote, Chavez used the rhetorical strategies of
ethos and pathos to make his case and express his opinion about violence and nonviolence. Both of
these strategies proved to be very effective throughout his entire article.
Chavez s main rhetorical strategy was pathos. Pathos led to how the story impacted the reader s
beliefs; pathos is used to affect the feeling of the reader. It is effective because it allows the reader
to connect with what is being said. Chavez uses the pathos argument to show American s feelings,
the American people and people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethos is also effective because it tells the reader what the right thing to do is. Most people will
do their best to follow in the pathway that is considered the right way. Chavez states, the burdens
of generations of poverty and powerlessness lie heavily in the fields of America. If we fail, there
are those who will see violence as the shortcut to change (Chavez). This is ethos because it is
saying we are who have to protect people from violence and if we fail, then it is our own fault.
This is hitting a reader s moral side to do the right thing, or believe the right thing. This is
effective because it works alongside the pathos being used. The pathos grabs the reader s
attention then the ethos takes that attention and tells you what to do and how. This is effective
because if the writer has their readers attention by use of ethos and pathos and can get them to
take the blame, they will be more likely to follow what is being said in order to redeem
themselves. This way of blaming the reader is especially effective because people naturally do not
like taking the blame and will take paths that allow them to escape this

The Clothing Company s Main Goal
Introduction
Ten Tree is a North American clothing company that was founded by two entrepreneurs Dave
Luba and Kalen Emsley (Gamble et al. 2). The clothing company s main goal is to be, first most,
an environmental company that plants trees, with its main goal being 10 trees planted for every
product sold (Gamble et al. 6). By being an environmentally friendly clothing company, they plan
to change the clothing industry with their unique product offering, environmental aid through
reforestation, manufacturing through green energy and products, and the social environment from
their business model (TenTree, Commitment ).
Recently, they have faced the issue of having their product selling at a higher rate than they had
expected. This has caused a high demand for the product, but also frustration from retailers and
customers from their inability to produce enough of their product to match the demand. Their
current onshore manufacturer cannot meet the amount nor the customization possibilities that are
expected. This has led Ten Tree to look offshore to possibly expand their product offerings and
produce enough to meet demands.

George S. Patton Jr.
George S. Patton Jr. was born on November 11, 1885, in San Gabriel, California (Gale 2). His
parents were George Smith Patton and Ruth Wilson. Their family was very wealthy because of
his mother s father; he was a successful businessman (Ford 1734). Patton Jr. went to private
school when he was twelve years old. The school was a wealthy school full of rich families. In
1902, Patton Jr. decided to go into the military. He attended the military academy at West point,
New York. There, he met Beatrice Banning Ayer, daughter of a successful industrialist, who later
became his wife. George Patton Jr. was a very athletic young man who played football at West

External Pressure On Public Administration
After reading through the syllabus, there appear to be many direct linkages between this course and
the previous courses that I have participated in. The first module focuses on external pressures on
public administration. I learned about external forces on public administrators in Introduction to
Public Administration, and Managing Change in the 21st Century. Though Introduction to Public
Administrationonly gave a vague overview of external pressures, Managing Change gave greater
detail on how there are forces outside of government, including citizens, interest groups and private
sector companies who all will influence the decision making process. These same courses also
focused on the internal pressures within organizations and government that will also impact the
decision making processes of public administrators. Budgeting is also a topic that I have experience
with. Budgeting in the public sector is entirely different than budgeting in the private sector. Lastly,
my previous public administration courses emphasized the importance of performance expectation
and improvement. Efficiency and effectiveness is a goal that public administrators everywhere
should work towards. Of my previous public administration courses, there are two courses that
made a significant impact on me. Ethics and Policy Administration, and Personnel Administration
in the Public Sector were my favorite courses. I enjoyed the Ethics and Public policy course,
because it focused on not only the

The Concept Of Automation
Shrinking budgets, shortage of qualified personnel and growing workloads are shaping the
organization of clinical laboratories and the networks around them. As a result, merging and
consolidation of institutions is commonplace to take advantage of economies of scale and as a
result, laboratory automation has been in the rise connecting more sectors to tracks.
A key question to answer is what is the level automation system is right for each clinical
laboratory? Automation can improve lab s efficiency and help clinical outcomes. . However, each
center must value its own objectives of automation for each sector and define if they will require
modular type automation systems or automation.
The concept of a consolidated laboratory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this sense, a definition of automation would include the use of combined and computer set,
robotics and the analyzers to manipulate the samples before, during and after measurements.
The automation of the laboratory, in the broad sense, affects all stages of the analytical process.
This means that new organizational approaches ranging from automation of individual processes to
reorganization projects and total automation. Between both situations there are an important variety
of scenarios that lead to models of laboratory.
Total laboratory automation (TLA) involves the integration of analyzers together with pre analytic
and post analytic. The work of a total automation system begins by managing the samples in an
input module that classifies and loads them in the carriers, centrifuges tubes, uncaps them and direct
them to the analyzers. The samples, after sampled by the analyzer are stored temporarily in
dedicated output location, from where they may be automatically recovered in case it rerun or
reflex testing in necessary.
The automation of clinical laboratories, when done properly and in accordance with to the needs of
each center, provides benefits that include an efficient increase in productivity, the possibility of
adding new analytical procedures without increasing the resources human, the centralization of
processes, reliable management of samples with full traceability, the standardization of the
analytical process, a greater guarantee of

Summary Of Stanley Milgram s 1963 Obedience Study
In Week 1, students focused on research ethics and whether (or not) social psychologist Stanley
Milgram s 1963 obedience study was ethical (Mason, 2018). Milgram organized the study because
he wanted to know how people might become strongly influenced against their personal moral and
belief structures (Mason, 2018). Roscoe argued that Milgram s 1983 disobedience study was
completely ethical because the organizer pre advised subjects as to the voluntary nature of the
research and because deception is justified within psychological research. Roscoe also declared that
no Milgram study participant experienced any negative long term psychological effect.
Additionally, Roscoe contended that all subjects were told, post study, that the administered... Show

Milgram s obedience paradigm is widely accepted to have arisen from an inclination to surrender
responsibility to authoritarian figures (Reicher, Haslam, Smith, 2012). However, this paradigm
must be held suspect because of blatant ethical considerations weakening conclusions.
Fundamentally, Milgram s was responsible for protecting his subjects. He did not protect them. He
chose to use deceptive methods, which led to short term trauma and possibly long term, according
to at least one participant. The outcome could have been far worse, with participants succumbing to
heart attack or stroke resulting from the trauma. Roscoe s arguments in support of Milgram s study
being ethically sound are not rooted in scholarly research. Therefore, further discussion will be

The Origin Of Electricity And Magnetism
The Origin of Electricity and Magnetism
This paper is mainly about the origin and discoveries of electricity and magnetism. It is solely a
summary of two natural phenomenon which have changed everything about our way of life and
has ushered us into a remarkable new age.
First and foremost, it is about the fundamental idea of how electricity and magnetism came about,
then, the development and discoveries of sources of electricity and magnetism by many inventors
and the latter discoveries of mega production.
When I was a little boy, I used to wonder what causes lightning and thunder. When rain comes, I
sometimes see intermittent lightning for a while before you can hear the sound of a spark which is
like two short circuited power cables.
At school, we all learnt about matter, which consists of atoms and molecules and every atom has a
nucleus and electron(s), inside the nucleus contains an equal number of protons and neutrons. The
electrons revolve round the nucleus of the atom in order to keep it stable. Protons are positively
charged particles, neutrons are neutral and electrons are negative charge particles. The nucleus is
surrounded by shells; these are simply orbitals in which an electron(s) can be found. The number
of orbitals depends on how many electrons the atom has. The electrons which are in the outer most
orbitals have a tendency of being lost or shared by another atom in order to create a more stable
configuration.

Stereotypes In Watership Down
In the story, Watership Down, the rabbits tell stories about a trickster rabbit named El ahrairah
and the rabbits have a parallel action between the stories. The story is about few rabbits who
leave their warren because one of the rabbits feels that there is danger near them and they decide
to go far away from their home. The rabbits tell stories at times when something big or bad is
happening. The stories are all about a past rabbit, El ahrairah who tricks other rabbits to do good
things for his warren and to collect food. Many of the plans that the rabbits make are similar to the
tricks that El ahrairah does. In Watership Down, a rabbit named Dandelion tells stories about El

First of all, Hazel s rabbits are influenced by a disguise plan that E ahrairah uses to steal the lettuce

Virginia Woolf Women
Virginia Woolf on Men and Women Colleges During Virginia Woolf s time, women are seen to
be inferior to men. She uses education as a way to highlight the differences. Woolf partakes in a
luncheon at each college. The meals are metaphorical devices that she uses to describe the
poverty women s colleges have and in comparison to the lavishness of a men s. Woolf s selection
of detail is evident in the way she describes the meals and sets a tone. The men s lunch is
luxurious and rich as ...so relate it to rice and tapioca would be an insult. Woolf uses this as a
way to help the reader understand that the meal was higher than a basic staple and to refer as
such is an offense. The course also help describes the tone of the men s college. The men s
luncheon is ...profound, subtle. As the way the lighting is a ...rich yellow flame of rational

Involvement of Canonical Insulin
To look at the involvement of canonical insulin/PI3K/Akt pathway in adipocytes leptin secretion
the study measured it using insulin resistant DIO mice with HFD and CD fed mice, with the
HFD mice gaining higher body and fat mass. Cell lysate of both HFD and CD fed mice were
subjected to western blotting and it was observed that phospho Akt level in adipocytes from HFD
fed mice was lower than the CD fed mice after insulinstimulation, showing insulin resistancein the
HFD fed mice. Also, the fasting leptinlevel of HFD fed mice is ten times higher than the CD fed
mice. Refeeding, resulted in no significant increase in plasma leptin levels in HFD fed mice
after two hours, whereas with the CD fed mice there was a significant increase in plasma leptin
levels. This implies that leptin production and/or secretion after refeeding is impaired in HFD
fed mice. To verify that there is a decrease in systematic leptin level, the researchers isolated
primary adipocytes from HFD and CD fed mice and then determined ISLS in ex vivo. The result
was that ISLS was significantly lower in primary adipocytes from HFD fed mice. This supports the
hypothesis that impaired ISLS in HFD fed mice in vivo and ex vivo was dependent on PI3K/Akt
activation. Furthermore, there is an essential role of PI3K/Akt in regulating ISLS in primary
adipocytes as seen when blocking PI3K activity with wortmannin. This significantly inhibits ISLS
without affecting basal leptin secretion. Also, AKT 1/2 inhibitor Akti

The Impact Of The Canadian Banking System
Although, Canada is a close neighbor of the US, its economy did not seem be much affected by
the recent 2008 global crisis. For explanation, we need to take a look at Canada s banking system
and regulations. Bordo, Redish, and Rockoff explain that despite of the fact that both countries
started out as colonies of Great Britain, their banking systems evolved differently. For example,
Canada banking system was created as a system of large financial institutions that evolved into
oligopoly due to the entry restrictions, whereas the US banking system was fragmented and fragile.
Further, the Canadian banking system had absorbed the mortgagemarket, investment banking, and
was tightly regulated by one overarching regulator. However, the US... Show more content on

However, Alan Walks explains that Canadian banks managed the crisis fairly well due to the
bailout, which was handled quickly without media attention and scrutiny through the government
institutions and programs (Walks 2014).
Currently, Canadian financial sector is dominated by six large banks and a number of smaller
institutions. The banks in Canada are allowed to combine investment banking and deposit taking
functions (Walks 2014). Until 2006, the mortgage loans in Canada were issued for 25 years with
minimum 5 percent down payment. When the homeowners default in their mortgage, they are still
legally responsible of their debt even after they sell their property or abandon it. Walks points out:
All lenders issuing CMHC insured mortgages are protected from losses on both principal and
interest in the event of default (Walks 2014).
Furthermore, the United States shadow banking sector entered Canadian market after 2001,
offering interest only and subprime mortgage loans. Due to not providing mortgage insurance, the
shadow banking sector services were not accepted by the big banks and traditional lenders.
However, in 2006, after the election of a new federal government and intense lobbying by the US
firms, Canada changed its banking standards. New private competitors were allowed to enter
Canadian mortgage insurance market and lending terms were extended to 40 years of amortization
with no down payment. Some of the officials in Canada

A Treatment Option For Multiple Sclerosis
Alemtuzumab as a treatment option for multiple sclerosis: A Critical Review
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disabling disease that affects about 1.1 million people
worldwide, majority of who form part of the western population (Wilkinson and Lennox, 2005;
Zabriske, 2009). MS mainly results from autoimmunity and is characterized by progressive damage
to the central nervous system (CNS) leading to poor motor coordination in the limbs as well as
vision abnormalities (Karp, 2013; Adamczyk Adamczyk Sowa, 2016). MS establishes itself through
a dysfunctional immune system, which causes immune cells (ICs) to attack the myelin sheath, a
process termed as demyelination. The myelin sheath forms an insulating layer around the axons of
nerve cells and facilitates the conduction of nerve impulses. Hence, the deterioration of myelin as a
result of autoimmune attack, disrupts signal conduction along the axons; this progressively
establishes the symptoms of MS (Saladin 2008; Karp 2013).
MS is established in two phases: a primary inflammatory response phase, which leads to the
accumulation of ICs in the brain followed by demyelination, which results in neuronal
degeneration. The inflammatory phase is triggered by an unknown factor, possibly the presence of
antigens from an infection in the brain, which activates T lymphocyte cells that are auto reactive for
brain antigens (Murphy, 2016). The blood brain barrier then becomes permeable allowing the entry
of the activated T cells that

Scientist, Jared Diamond, Explains How Europeans Gained...
Many Caucasian s have thought and believed positively they were superior to many other races.
Most of these people were from a geographic area that had advanced technology, large
populations, and a large workforce. This area started in the Middle East and spread laterally within
a similar environment that provided a fertile habitat for farmer gatherers. Jared Diamond
discovered that approximately 13,000 years ago man started out as hunter gatherers following
seasonal game migration to provide food for their survival. Man would find whatever food that
grew in that area to supplement the game animals for sustenance, but this activity would take a
majority of his time and would be conditional to the regions environment and his own... Show more

This in turn freed up many workers to produce other necessities. One very important item was steel.
From it came better tools for farming and weapons. The Middle East lost its advantage due to
drought conditions. Egypt used the wheat, barley, sheep, goats, cows, and pigs to transform human
society. Egypt produced enough food to free a workforce that built one of the wonders of the
world, the pyramids. These engineers and inventers discovered resources in their environment to
produce clay, steel, gunpowder, and paper. The scholars of the culturespread philosophy, religion,
and politics. Paper and the invention of printing preserved knowledge and history, along with better
steel and guns gave the power to dominate other cultures in less fortunate environments. Building
sea worthy boats enabled the armies to conquer these cultures and take their resources for their own
gain. Trading with other powerful cultures producing goods increased the diverse resources with
which to become a superpower and to continue to dominate the sea and many different lands. But
with the large cities and close proximity of people, and farms with animals in herds and humans
close together, came the quick spread of diseases. These diseases tempered populations, but also
some humans built up immunities, which were passed to their offspring. Therefore, even though
many people died, it did advance the civilization with anti bodies protecting the culture, but as

Compromise Catastrophe
Compromise Catastrophe:
How Culture Conflicts Caused the American Civil War The American Civil War was one of the
bloodiest American wars fought; about two percent of the American population died. If two
percent of all Americans were killed in a war today, about six million Americans would be dead.
Why couldn t the presidents of the Confederate and United States of America just come to an
agreement and avoid so much bloodshed? From 1820 to 1858, United States Politics transformed
from making Compromises between the pro slavery economy of the South and the Free economy of
the North to most southern states agreeing that they should secede from our supposedly corrupt and
biased government. However, by 1860, compromise was beyond consideration ... Show more

The Republican party s main objective was to stop slavery from spreading into the western
territories, but the Anti Slavery Society was much more strict, declaring that, ...[T]he slaves ought
instantly to be set free... (Document C). This made the South feel alienated from the North, and the
Federal Government worked quickly to try and fix this, creating the Compromise of 1850. The
Compromise of 1850 was made of five bills, but one specifically outraged the North: the Fugitive
Slave Acts of 1850, which allowed government officials to detain and person convicted of being
a runaway slave, even if they had lived with their friends for years and were clearly not runaway
slaves. Many Northerners created bands against the laws and actively worked to disobey the
Slave Acts, which made the South infuriated since the North had agreed to the Compromise. At
this point, people began creating ideas about secession, as Senator Daniel Webster said in his
speech to Congress in March, 1850: I hear with pain and anguish the word secession, especially
when it falls from the lips of those who are... patriotic (Document C). After these years, the election

The Role Of Judgment In The Film Primal Fear
As I am going to use my skills of Critical Thinking and Errors of Judgment in the movie called
Primal Fear by William Diehl to write a paper. Critical term is to describe forms of learning,
thought, and analysis that go beyond the memorization and recall of information and facts. (http:/
/edglossary.org/critical thinking/). For instance, it is very important for students to analyze
situations, to solve problems, and to make good decisions. An Error of Judgment occur in the
process of sorting out and assessing evidence. For an example, to make decisions. These are the
two important skills I will be using throughout the paper/movie.
This movie exercises the principal of critical thinking when attorney Martin Vail takes on the case
of an alter boy who got accused of brutally murdering murdering the Archbishop of Chicago. Vail...

factor. Which includes when Aaron transforms into a new person, Roy and when Vail finds a
pornographic videotape at Archbishop s apartment of Aaron with his girlfriend, Linda and another
alter boy that Archbishop was filming. This was so profound in the movie because it made Aaron
/Roy look more poor/good guy who needs help/treatments with his conditions. In addition,
Archbishop was bad guy for what he did to Aaron, Linda, and an another alter boy, but everyone
else knew him as a good Archbishop who would never do such things.
No one used critical thinking in this movie, but Vail did separated facts from opinions. Also, he
avoided the errors of logic in this film. If he would ve used the Critical Thinking qualities, then he
would ve looked for the evidence and not just jumped into the conclusion. The qualities he could ve
used are look for unstated assumptions, distinguish between ideas and information, and recognize
decisions. He should ve used these qualities to decide what was right and what was wrong. Also,
this would have helped him to understand the

Operant Conditioning by B. F Skinner
Introduction People do on a day to day basis, many actions without realizing it, and most of the
time, they don t know why they do them. Certain reinforcements, some positive, and some negative
have conditioned their actions and thoughts. In this essay, I chose Burrhus Frederic Skinner who
came up with the theory of operant conditioning. B. F. skinner,(March 20, 1904 August 18, 1990)
is an American psychologist who believed that we do have such a thing as a mind, but that it is
simply more productive to study observable behavior rather than internal mental events. As
Skinner s theory was based on the earlier work of Thorndike, he also believed that the best way to
understand a behavior is to look at the causes of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example he studies the behavior of rats under carefully controlled laboratory conditions.
Skinner Box Skinner illustrated positive reinforcement by placing a hungry rat in his Skinner
box (Appendix 2). The box contained a lever in the side and as the rat moved about the box it
would accidentally knock the lever. As the lever move, a food pellet would drop into a container
next to the lever. The rats quickly learned to go straight to the lever after a few times of being put
in the box. The consequence of receiving food if they pressed the lever ensured that they would
repeat the action again and again. Skinner illustrated negative reinforcement by placing a rat in his
Skinner box and then subjecting it to an unpleasant electric current which caused it some
discomfort. As the rat moved about the box it would accidentally knock into the lever.
Immediately as it did so, the electric current would be switched off. The rats quickly learned to go
straight to the lever after a few times of being put in the box. The consequence of escaping the
electric current ensured that they would repeat the action again and again.
Human and animals are not alike Based on the Skinner box, we are able to conclude that Skinner
actually conducts and derived his theories from rats and other animals such as pigeon. The
experiment on pigeon was referred to as the Superstition in Pigeon in which a pigeon was kept in a
cage and at regular

Collaboration In Twelve Angry Men
The film Twelve Angry Men, released in 1957, is based on a play by Reginald Rose of the same
title. This is a fascinating examination of a small group communication, the transitive process of
creating meaning with people who share a common purpose. Rose s story puts the American
judicial system on trial and comments on prejudices that were socially revenant in the 1950 s. The
interaction between twelve diverse jurors brought together to decide the fate of a young defendant
in what appears as an open and shut trial has become an American classic and is considered a
demonstration of our legal system.
The group communication concepts I ve selected that highlight important themes in the film are:
determining when collaboration is needed, the functional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These functions are goal function, analysis function, idea generated function, evaluation
function, and personal sensitivity function. The first step is goal function, for the team or group
to have a clear goal. The goal in this film was to get 12 angry men to agree on a verdict, guilty or
not guilty. The second step is the analysis function, to analyze the data, inforamation, or evidence
that can help the group achieve the group goal. When juror #8 provided a not guilty decision
many of the group members became upset. juror #7 made it clear to the group that he would
like to get out of their quickly so he could attend the baseball game he had tickets for. This is a
prime example of individual roles, behaviors that focus on an individual other then the group or
task at hand. This behavior upsetter juror #8 due to the fact that a mans life is on the line and all
he could focus on was missing a baseball game. Other jurors were content with providing a guilty
decision due to being content with the argument made by the prosecution. Juror #8 pointed out
that the murder wepon potrayed by the prosection as being a very rare knife was infact not rare at
all. He purchused the same knife just blocks away from the defendants home. This swayed juror
#9 to take a step back from his once guilty decision to agree there is reasonable doubt in this case.

An Systematic Norms Of A Young Age
From a young age, society classifies us in order to keep our civilization organized and to avoid
chaos. However, ambiguity can be necessary at times to question the systematic norms. Gender is a
system that categorizes males and females based on their physical appearance, tone of voice, and
personality. However, these strict genderroles created by society exclude those who defy
classification, such as individuals who are non gender binary or gender fluid.
Gender is a cultural construct, completely unrelated to one s sex assigned at birth. Nevertheless,

male but might identify as women. Nor does this description take into consideration women who
were born biologically female, but identify as male, or women who may dress more masculine but
consider themselves female.
We are constantly being bombarded by the social constructs of gender. In advertisements women
are portrayed as beautiful, fragile and dainty, where as men are seen as powerful, strong and
masculine. These subliminal messages, along with the more blatant ones from peers, teachers,
media, and parents, serve to reinforce gender stereotypes, roles and labels. In addition, they further
alienate those who do not conform to these norms.
There are two opposite ends of the spectrum, male and female, but non gender binary and gender
fluid people do not fit neatly into these two categories. Unlike cisgenders, who identify with the
gender they were assigned at birth, non gender binary individuals do not identify with a specific
gender. More specifically, if you are non gender binary, you have

Everyone Should Be Able To Vote Essay
Voting with Electronic Voting Machines
The states should be allowed to use electronic voting machines. They are not necessarily easier
than paper ballots but the result can be back quicker than using the old fashion paper ballots.
Understanding that new technology is not always the way to go, but to use them in your city to
see how the citizens like them is definitely a way to go. Being able to give your citizens the
choice with which they would rather vote with, either a paper ballot, or an EVMs is a good idea
knowing what they think is the right way to vote and that they can vote that way.
Using new technology is a good thing with all of it improving in today s society. The electronic
voting machines are easy for all people to use, including, people with disabilities and who can not
stand long by having hand held devices , as stated in Everyone Should Be Able to Vote. They have
an advancement by having different languages for the citizen who is voting to choose from so
they can vote in their most fluent language, instead of having to translate the information for them.
It is very convienent for the machines to have audio and voice systems for people with reduced
vision , stated in Everyone Should Be Able to Vote. These machines can do wonders for all... Show

technology as the new generations are. Downfalls of the electronic voting machines is that they

technology do make errors and go wrong and these machines can also be hacked. With these
negative things about the machines there is always ways of prevention other than not using them.

Educational drama in education
Educational drama in education for sustainable development: ecopedagogy in action
he research on which this paper is based is a response to the UNESCO directive for the Decade
of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) 2005 2014. Educators are advised to prepare
young people for sustainable development and global citizenship and the Arts should be included
in programmes in ESD. This paper presents an overview of a research project based on the
hypothesis that educational drama might be a useful medium for teaching and learning in
environmental, sustainable development and global citizenship education. Central to the project, an
ethnographic case study employing a multi‐case approach, based on three research questions,

Its goal is to encourage changes in behaviour that will create a more sustainable future in terms of
environmental integrity, economic viability, and a just society for present and future generations
(UNESCO 2005) and to help young people to become global citizens (UNESCO 2006). In response,
the Scottish Government (SDELG 2006) recommends that education for sustainable development
should offer young people opportunities to practise and develop:
sensitivity to and appreciation of the social and natural environment;
some factual understanding of environmental and social problems and issues;
knowledge/understanding of the social environment;
skills to find out about and explore environmental issues;
civic skills to influence decision‐making in society;
researching and communicating information about one s own environment;
improving one s own environment: acting responsibly; and
critical reflection on the quality of environmental developments.
Educators are challenged to find interesting and meaningful ways of helping young people to
develop the knowledge, skills and values they will need to become actively involved in building a
more sustainable future. UNESCO states that drama can be part of the teaching and learning
process. This paper sets out the results of a research project the aim of which was to discover if the

Bioliographic Information on Slavery and Colonial Rule in...
Bibliographic Information: Klein, Martin A., Slavery And Colonial Rule in French West Africa,
1998, Cambridge University Press
The book bears importance in being one of the few studies about domestic slavery within the
French West Africa. It contributes to the field of study, by elaborating on the importance of slavery
in Senegal, Sudan and Guinea in Africa s development. The period of the study lies from 1876 to
1922, wherein Klein ultimately shows the evolution of slavery. In the years prior to 1876, Klein
argued that slavery had an economic and social significance in societies. There are two themes
which form a major part of the book. They include: the conflict between the French in the metropole
and the French in Africa; and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the social taboo of being an ex slave (or of slave heritage), there are ex slaves who are
afraid to mention their backgrounds to Klein. This obviously leads to a limitation of evidence,
which perhaps makes it difficult for the reader to form an idea on what slavery was fully like.
Despite this, Klein shows admiration for those of slave backgrounds in portraying them as being
spurred on by past oppressions, to achieve a better life than those with master backgrounds. To
further his arguments, Klein uses secondary sources as a basis to criticize traditional arguments.
Apart from the deep historical analysis and the descriptive historical events (which aid in backing
up Klein s knowledge and deep research in the field), the book s structure is significant. In terms
of illustrations, Klein uses maps, figures and pictures. Maps are an essential part of the book in
providing vivid ideas on where battles occurred or which societies were based where. In this case,
his writings and the maps form a symbiotic relationship, in that the reader can understand the
context through the use of maps and his writing (clear up properly). Each chapter is structured in a
way that allows the reader to navigate around the chapter and read the relevant information. All
chapters include an introductory section (aimed at outlining the key points of the chapter in
question) and a conclusion (aimed at summarising and tying together the

Endangered Species Research Paper
Period: 2
Hasn t the world lost enough? Animals are harmed by letting nature take its course, meaning
climate changes, deforestation, etc. Human poaching is a major contributor also. Extinctions have
occurred throughout our planet s natural history. Some species develop as others die out, making
space in the ecosystem for those best suited to any given habitat s natural conditions. Long before
human beings arrived, fossil records show that populations of animals evolved, thrived, declined,
and became extinct. (Sexton)

encroachment are considered the primary threats to these and other species (Sexton). If humans are

Conservationists put an end to the destruction of their habitats. If trees need to be cut down to say

rain, which means floods. At other times there isn t enough, which means drought. Both are
dangerous. We can t do anything about the climate changing and the weather changing, it s nature

Defender Of The Faith By Philip Roth
Defender of faith, is a complex, capably envisioned story depicting a contention of loyalties and
portraying the trouble of being a better than average and impartial individual in a world assail with
contradicting needs. In the short story Defender of the faith by Philip Roth, we are confronted with
several different conflicts: man vs. himself, as Sergeant Marx is struggling to decide whether he
should be a militaryman, or a Jewish man; man versus man, with Grossbart continually difficult
power and osmosis into the military; and man versus society, as Sergeant Marx is stressed over how
his choices will be gotten in the military group. These contentions all lead to a general topic. The
general subject being, that in life, on occasion, individuals may come in struggle with other people
who like to endeavor certain things or circumstances further bolstering their own good fortune. It
might be difficult to choose how to manage these circumstances, particularly in the event that you

I believe Roth treats religion as a very serious and delicate subject. Roth treats religion as something
that shouldn t be made as something that should define us. Roth is attempting the set out the
establishment that religion is going to have influence yet it s not the principle idea that makes a
man, it s his activities. Roth utilizes Judaism with battle ready belief system to show how

Many fields are flooded in order to cultivate enough rice for England and the colony. Freshwater
swamps are not the only means by which rice can be produced. A number of the chief rice fields
are situated along the tidal rivers and inlets. Dikes and floodgates are used to regulate the
amount of water supplied to the field according to whether it is low tide or high tide. The same
process is reversed when water needs to be drained from the fields (Garraty, 51). People of
Africa s Rice Coast taught this technique to the settlers. A large portion of the population is made
up of people from the rice producing regions of Africa. The economy is reliant upon enslaved
Africans. Not only is the role of slave labor significant in the rice culture, but also in the
production of indigo. Eliza Lucas introduced the second cash crop, indigo. Although indigo
increases the revenue of the colony immensely, it cannot compete with rice for either land or labor.
It prospers on high ground and needs cultivation in the seasons slaves are not preoccupied in the
rice paddies. This is a valuable asset for England, to have a new source of indigo, for it has a
quintessential function in the textile industry. Parliament has already reaped the benefits of their
bounty and should continue to fund the production of indigo. South Carolina has established a
solid economy in the manufacturing of tobacco, indigo, and rice, along with

garage is only half length of the house while the other half is a garden that leads to the front
entrance. Because of its proximity to the park and the school you usually can see kids loudly
running down the street to the park from the balcony in the second story above the front garden.
The park at the end of the street is anything but quiet. You can always hear the laughter of the
kids playing, the sound of a ball hitting the floor, and the occasional bark from a neighborhood
dog. The park has a basketball court, a soccer field, and a playground. The park is in L form,
which means it extends all over the back of the street and ends up besides the fake OXXO.
Because it is so near the elementary school the teachers allow the fourth, fifth, and sixth graders
to play in the park during recess. Also because of its nearness the physical education classes for

The Importance Of Sexual Conduct In 18th Century Colonial...
In seventeenth eighteenth century Colonial Latin America, definitions of honor were expressed
through a complex set of behavioral codes that served to regulate personal and social conduct. One
s ability to approximate ideals of honor and embody those ideals laid the foundation for familial
values and proved to be an integral tool for distinguishing people by ethnic and economic factors.
Sexual conduct became a fundamental component of honor as the constructions of male and female
sexuality were defined through the honor paradigm. Pressures to maintain honorability proliferated
when temptations of the flesh clashed theological values set forth by the Church. Confession aided
individuals to resolve these discourses and any possible instances of sin. Most importantly,
confession was imperative to uncovering human weaknesses and understanding the complexity of
social relationships that espoused sexual transgressions. Sexual transgressions exposed the
paradoxical nature of canon law by providing enclaves of power to be harnessed and exploited by
those most oppressed in the colonial system: non elite women. The actions catalyzed by this
specific group demonstrated effective strategies for subverting colonial power, the most defiant of
which involved sexual witchcraft. Unlike their elite counterparts, plebeian women, especially those
who occupied the lower social strata, were least likely to experience internalized conflicts over
whether to challenge male domination directly or

Why Philadelphia Is Not For Affordable And Nutritious Food
Philadelphia is not exceptional in terms of the characteristics or poverty status from its residents
when compared to other large urban areas. Yet it has the second lowest number of supermarkets of
major cities in the nation. The greater Philadelphia region has seventy two fewer supermarkets in
low income neighborhoods (Duane Perry). This shortage of supermarkets means that poor residents
must travel out of their neighborhoods to purchase food, or shop at more expensive convenience
stores with less selection and often poor quality. The insufficient access to affordable and nutritious
food in lower income neighborhoods reduces the chance for a healthy lifestyle. Many low income

There were neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia where residents couldn t easily buy healthy
foods like fruits and vegetables. And science shows us that people who live in these underserved
neighborhoods are more at risk for serious diet related diseases like obesity(Food Trust website).

Philadelphia. Once a week, with the help of the Tasker Homes Tenant Council, they set up one

A community can be defined in many ways. The most basic definition is a group of people sharing
common interests, thoughts, beliefs, or values. Today s fastest growing and most diverse
communities are those experienced through the Internet. In the article Everyone s a Critic, Richard
Lacayo describes the many communities where people can express their feelings on books, movies,
music, and restaurants. His representation of online communities can be shared with that of Amy

The ability to communicate through the Internet has connected people in a way that is
immeasurable. People now turn to cyberspace to have questions answered, feelings shared, and
opinions heard. As Lacayo implies, everyone truly can be a critic and can be valued despite their
position. As a result of the appreciation and recognition of a community, the Internet continues to
grow more diverse and interesting. With many different interests, beliefs, values, opinions, and
feelings, many online communities are bound to be equally as varied. After all, the Net is made up
of hundreds of thousands of separate communities, each with its own special character (Bruckman

Internet is unlimited. Consequently, each individual user can find a community that suits their
personal interests or thoughts. With variety promised on the Net, many see their differences as
something we need to cultivate and cherish (Bruckman 178). Diversity is cherished on the Internet
because it allows people to find a place they can relate to. As Internet communities become more
assorted, users are now more likely to find a community that they can call their own. Above all,

Fundamental Principles of Duct System or Air Distribution...
CHAPTER 3 METHODOLOGY This project work is gives the fundamental principles of duct
system or air distribution system design for multi story building. There are mainly three type of
duct sizing method namely equal friction method, modified friction method (static regain
method) and velocity reduction method. In present day the use of manual duct calculator is
normal and computer aided duct design is becoming more popular. Also to learn the friction
chart is very important to use this manual duct calculator because these are the foundation of the
other method. This will provide the necessary knowledge to duct design error and overcome to
these error. For designing the proper duct system requires load estimation which is used to
selecting the zone and air flow rate that the duct system distributes. Ones the air flow rate is has

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service Essay
1. Context and Problem
The Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) has identified a long standing issue of poor
repeat blood donation from young donors, in particular males. While this group of the population
has a high number of new donors, it has been found they are also the least loyal, which poses a
problem for both current and future blood stocks. As a marketing consultancy firm, we have been
commissioned to analyse the issues surrounding blood donation in Australia, and to devise three
cost effective marketing strategies aimed at increasing repeat donation from this demographic.
2. Literature Review
The topic of blood donation well researched, with strategies having been devised to try and
increase donation rates all over the world. Australia faces a challenging set of circumstances, in
which remuneration for donation is illegal (ARCBS, 2013). It is thought this may be a contributing
factor to the poor repeat donation rates in youth demographics, for whom altruism is no longer a
primary driving factor when considering donation (Russell Bennett, Hartel, Previte Russel, 2012).
Since the iconic work by Titmuss (1970), blood donation has been considered one of the only true
altruistic behaviours, and many marketing strategies have been engineered around this concept.
Several authors, however, have argued that blood donation is not a case of true altruism , and is
actually a case of impure altruism , whereby the donor receives personal utility and improvement

on these changes will be discussed, and the changes the Anglo Saxonscaused to Viking settlement
will also be considered.
The invading Viking forces caused changes to Anglo Saxon kingship, including the eventual
formation of an English Kingdom. The Great Army of 865 was led by Ivarr the Boneless and
Halfdan, sons of Ragnar Lothbrok, and landed in East Anglia before turning north to Northumbria.

The spread of Scandinavian settlement across the North and East of England is evidenced by
place names. Those with Scandinavian origin are spread across the Danelaw, and many are still
present today. Arguably, however, the linguistic impact of the Vikings was not transformative, as
Old Norse and Anglo Saxon were similar languages. Alternatively, this may have proved useful, as
traders would have experienced little difficulty in moving across the border between the Danelaw
and the English. The impact of the Vikings on linguistic elements of Anglo Saxon society is still
questionable, as the term Danelaw was not coined until c.1008, and there is little evidence to
suggest any Scandinavian origin. The identity of groups, which is often collectively seen through
language in the modern period, was also not transformed due to the Viking raids. Angles and
Saxons, Northumbrians and Mercians, were still identified within these groups, despite their
collective English language, and Vikings who settled south of the Danelaw were not always

Essay on Major Federal Anti-trusth Laws in the United States
The anti trust laws were set in place to promote vigorous competition but also to protect the
consumer from unfair mergers and business practices. The first antitrust law that was passed by
Congress is called the Sherman Act and is a comprehensive charter of economic liberty aimed at
preserving free and unfettered competition as the rule of trade according to www.FTC.gov . Later
in 1914 Congress passed two more laws, one creating the Federal Trade Commission Act (FTCA)
and then the Clayton Act, which now create the three core federal antitrust laws that are still active
currently. Although they have changed over the last hundred years, they still have the same
concept: to protect the process of competition for the benefit of consumers,... Show more content on

This is just one example of many where the Clayton Act was used to minimize the monopoly of
one product. The last antitrust law is the Federal Trade Commission Act (FTCA) that also does
not carry any criminal penalties although it did create the Federal Trade Commission to monitor
possible violators of this act. . I believe that the Sherman Act, Clayton Act and antitrust laws that
are in place are effective because of the lawsuits that have taken place due to companies breaking
the laws. My first example regarding how the laws are effective is the case of Certegy Check
Services, Inc. s lawsuit in 2013. Certegy is one of the nation s largest check authorization service
companies (Katz, Mitchell 2013) in our nation based in St. Petersburg, Fl. The company helps
retail merchants determine whether or not to accept the consumers check. The consumers are
allowed to dispute the information that Certegy may have that is incorrect due to the fact that this
has a huge impact on their life, determining their eligibility to get credit cards or pay for services
such as cell phones. The complaint that was filed against Certegy stated that the company did not
follow proper dispute procedures among other allegations as stated by Katz, Mitchell in his article
on the lawsuit. The company violated FCRA by not creating a process that allows the consumers to
obtain their free annual reports, which

History Of Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever
Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever
History of Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever
Since the last epidemic of ebola hemorrhagic fever or ebola people have been trying harder than
ever to find a cure for it. The origin of ebola is undefined as of this current moment, in other words
no one knows how ebola came about. The first outbreak of ebola that was recorded was in 1976
in Sudan and Zaire. It infected 284 people with a mortality rate of 53%. It came about along the
Ebola River hence the name Ebola. The second one happened a few months later it had the highest
mortality rate which was 88% which is the highest of any ebola virus. It started in Yambuku Zaire,
Democratic Republic of the Congo. The third did not affect people, but monkeys. It was discovered

There are many other stories but if I told them we would be here all day. It would take up more

How can we prevent Ebola from happening
Honestly there is no way that we know of to prevent ebola from coming back. But if you know
of someone that has ebola STAY AWAY FROM THEM AT ALL COSTS. It only takes one to

The Effect Of Beer On Chilli Plant
The Effect of Beer on Chilli Plant
Chillis are grown as ornamental decorative plants and for their fruits, these can then be harvested
when green and it could be used for some cuisines, or be left to ripen, mainly to red but some will
turn orange, this usually takes about 2 to 3 weeks. Chillis will grow in similar conditions as
tomatoes although better results are achieved in higher temperatures and oppressiveness. A better
crop will be achieved by growing under glass, although they can be cultivated outdoors in sheltered
sites with plenty of sun.
The yeast and carbohydrates, promote the development the idea that plants with beer is some

because plant cells need them for food making. To nourish plants more, you should try molasses

According of what we have read on internet, yeast can be used in beer making. Why do people can
t think that a yeast is a fungus? When we add a fungus to a soil, then the fungus grows. It grows
and it doesn t aid in feeding our plant at all. It just have an unpleasant smell.

The Problem Of Homeless Heroin Injectors For A 10 Year Period
The public rarely pays close attention to homeless people on the streets. There is one kind of
homelessness that have dedicated their lives to heroin; these people call themselves righteous
dopefiends . Philippe Bourgois and Jeff Schonberg became part of the daily lives of these
homeless heroin injectors for a 10 year period in Edgewater Boulevard. Through various interviews
with the addicts, we came to find out their shocking personal histories that led to their addictionand
homelessness. These Edgewater homeless came from different ethnic backgrounds, however, they
shared two common things; all of them were homeless and were addicted to heroin. They lived in
dead end alleyways, storage lots, vacant factories, defective cars, and highway embankments (4).
The reason they labelled themselves as righteous dopefiends was because believed they were
worthy in society, despite their actions. Going through ceaseless pain and anxiety of hunger,
exposure, infectious diseases was reasonable to them because of their commitment to heroin (5).
Throughout my paper, it will show that medication has an important implication in the lives of the
homeless heroin injectors.
Moral expectations in the Edgewater drug community is based on sharing, fairness, and justice (6).
This type of economy is perfect for small communal societies, where their motto is to get mutual
aid in order to avoid the free rider problem. Members of the community pool their money together

The Sinking of the Greatest
My paper is about the Titanic and why it is an important event in history. The Titanic was an
awfully big ship. It was about 883 feet long, and weighed 52,310 tons which is huge, the largest
ship ever actually. It was designed by Thomas Andrews, but built by Harland and Wolff
, which was
a ship building company. It was built in Belfast, United Kingdom. They started building the ship
on March 31, 1909 and launched the final ship project on May 31, 1911. Which I honestly think
they finished it really fast. The Titanic when full could carry 2,435 passengers, and a crew of
approximately 900. Which brought her capacity to more than 3,300 plus people. With all those

They probably just did it for all the talk and all the publicity. In the end publicity is for sure what
they got, more than expected. They spent a total of $7,500,000 ($174 million in today s money)
to build the ship that is now at the bottom of the ocean, along with tons of dead souls. Because of
careless mistakes from dumb people. There were too many mistakes made that caused the
disaster. However the Titanic could have been saved had just a few of these events not
happened. If people would listen to warnings and suggestions, than yes this tragedy could have
been avoided. If the caption had been listening to the six warnings that he was given then the
ship have been able to steer away from the iceberg. It doesn t take much effort to steer the ship
away from the iceberg. Someone actually took the time to contact the ship SIX TIMES, the least
you could do is move the ship a little bit to get away from the iceberg. Even if they had slowed
down because they were going too fast, they would have seen the iceberg sooner, and would have
been able to think about what to do. That would have given them more time to avoid

Designing A New Design For A Distributed Operating System
As the Chief Information Officer working in my business, I will be proposing a new design for
the current network to attempt to improve the quality and productivity of 250 client computers
and 50 servers. My first decision would be to opt to change the system to a distributed operating
system (DOS). I would choose this course of action because instead of centralizing all the
resources on one server, which could lead to problems in the event of a hardware failure, you
could distribute them across multiple instances decreasing the likelihood of system outages, and
making errors easier to deal with ( Definition of Distributed n.d). Although this model will be
much more expensive to implement, I believe that it will lead to better growth in the future. The
reliability of the network will be increased, which leaves room for improvement, adding more
client systems, or even servers. Updating the operating system to a distributed operating system
will increase the overall size and reliability of the database for subscribers to use. The current
server operating system would be Windows Server 2003. I d make minor changes to the server
operating system upgrading to a later version like 2008 or 2012. I chose Windows over Linux,
MAC, and other server OS because I think its performance is suitable for this type of environment.
Windows itself has a high support for most functions (Janowski, 2003). While Linux is a good
operating system, getting support in my opinion would be

The Wasp Factory Essay
A Gothic horror story of quite exceptional quality...macabre, bizarre and...quite impossible to put
down.
The above quote is the response of the Financial Times to the best selling novel, The Wasp
Factory , and in my opinion, truer words were never spoken. I myself had to force the book out of
my hands in the early hours of the morning on several occasions. This clearly says something
about the sheer power of Iain Bank s debut novel. Whether you love it or hate it, once you have
read the first page you are instantly struck by it s brilliance. Throughout this essay, I intend to
explore the mind and characteristics of the main character, Frank Cauldhame.

He in fact likes his brother, and got on well with him, so you may ask why then did he feel the
need to dispose of his brother. Well, according to Frank, the main reason that he and his brother
always got on so well was because he knew from an early age that he was not long for this world,
so Frank had tried to make his time as enjoyable as possible. Paul is killed by a German bomb
that was uncovered by a powerful storm the night before Paul met his tragic end. However, right
up to the end, Frank is very kind to Paul. His death is quick and painless. Frank tells Paul that the
bomb is a bell, and if he hits it hard enough, a sound will come out. So, Frank runs to the top of a
nearby dune, Paul hits the bomb, it explodes, and Frank s murder tally rises to two. Frank s main
reason for killing his brother at this time is that he feels that finding the bomb is not only an
opportunity, it is a symbol, a sign that he must obey.
So now to Franks third and final murder, that of cousin Esmerelda. The reason that Esmerelda
dies could be seen as petty by many people, but to Frank, it is valid. Frank kills Esmerelda
because she is a girl. He feels that, since he has already killed two boys, he owes it to the world to
balance it out a bit, and Esmerelda is the unfortunate female that has been chosen to be disposed of.
The most interesting detail about the murders that Frank has committed is that he

One of the important insurance that a person should do is health insurance. Medical expenses are
so much higher that every person cannot afford when they were suffering from major illness or an

Simply health insurance is a contract between the insurance company and an individual or their

Similarly the hospitals and medical coverage policies were developed during the first half of the
20th Neupane 2century. Even private health insurance is unaffordable or imply unavailable to
many, including the poor, the unemployed, and elderly. Before 1965, only half of seniors had the
health care coverage and they paid three times as much as younger adults pay in spite of having
a low income source. Having health insurance is important for several reasons. Uninsured people
get less medical care and timely care, have worse health outcomes, and lack of medical insurance
is burden for people and for their families. The benefits of health coverage outweigh the cost of
additional services. In case of the United States, insurance has become the method for people to
pay for their health care costs. Insured people pay the insurance bill every month which helps
them to deduce the cost of major unexpected medical incidents. Well, it s not like that all the
people in US are insured. There are lots of people who are uninsured. People not having health
insurance have a profound negative effect on personal finances. Lack of insurance direct effect on
person life by bankruptcy, reduction of income, and penalties. If a person has suffered from major

Electronic Media And Its Impact On The World
Since its inception radio has gone through many changes. In its infancy it was the only true form
of electronic media. Radios became a requirement in all sea vessels, a result of the tragic sinking
of the Titanic. During the Great Depression it grew in popularity due to its price, free. This was
referred to the Golden Age of Radio. Radio remained the dominant force in media until the
arrival of the television. The high fidelity of FM radio caught the interest of those who favored
music programming and with the addition of DJs, radio held it s own. Over the years many new
competitors have joined the media race. Technology has delivered new gadgets such as the MP3
player, iPod, and smartphones. New services like Amazon, Bandcamp, and iTunes have sprung up
offering music downloads at low prices. Streaming services on smartphones have grown in
popularity, Pandora, Spotify and Google Play being three of the forerunners. All this and radio still
holds on. They are found in virtually every automobile. Local broadcast radio is commonly heard in
local restaurants and bars. Last but not least, you likely have one in your pocket, your smartphone.
Smartphone manufacturers founded the feature cost them little to add and it has been quite popular
in developing countries outside of the United States. The majority of smartphones manufacturers
included an FM chip in its design which allows the user to receive FM radio. Though most phones
around the world have them, two thirds of those in

Biomedical Experimentation in the Holocaust Essay
There were many ways that the Nazi tortured the Jews during the Holocaust. They harmed them
both mentally and physically, but the most horrific kind of torture was the physical abuse. The
Nazis tortured, killed, and experimented on the Jews in an inhuman way. The experimentations that
were conducted by the doctors were very horrendous and shocking. They had three categories for
the experiments: military, biomedical, and racial/ideological. Though all the types of
experimentations were terrible, the biomedical category was the most appalling. In the biomedical
experimentations, the doctors did some cruel studies on the prisoners that included injecting

Malaria, one of the diseases that broke out in Germany and German occupied countries, was
injected to the prisoners through mosquitoes that carried the disease. Inmates considered to be
healthy were deliberately infected with malaria by infected mosquitoes, or were injected with
malaria infected blood (Spitz 103). In order to keep enough infected people, they would draw
blood from the infected people and insert it in other prisoners (Spitz 103). In several cases when
no one died during an experiment, the doctors would order for the experiment to worsen and for
more injections to be injected. The injections that were being injected in the prisoners after
being in contact with the disease were medicines and vaccines that they were testing. Whenever
a medicine doesn t work, a new medicine would be injected to see what it ll do to the body
(Splitz 103). In the concentration camps of Buchenwald and Natzweiler, more than seven
hundred prisoners were subjected to the typhus experiments. Not only did these two camps run
experiments for typhus but also for diseases such as yellow fever, smallpox, cholera and many
more. The typhus experiments were very repugnant in the way that doctors would kill people just
to keep the disease still intact with them. They had prisoners known as passage persons who acted
like capsules for the diseases. The doctors would use these people to take their blood and inject it

What Is A Long Lasting Tradition Essay

Zora Neale Hurston Sweat
The story Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston tells the story of Delia who overcame her abusive
husband, Sykes through her development of becoming a strong woman. The development of
Delia s character throughout the story relates to Zora Neale Hurston s life of growing up into a
strong, empowered woman. Delia and Zora were both verbally and physically abused which
made them afraid and timid. Zora made her characters talk in a dialect that she grew up listening
to which was uncommon to do in literature. Delia and Zora both had to provide for themselves by
putting in the effort remain stable and happy. They also stood up for what they believed in which
started their development into strong women. Delia had to let her husband die in order to gain
independence, while Zora had to move away from home in order to be successful in her future
which developed them both develop into independent women. They became stronger because of
these things which empowered them to take back control of their lives. The snakeis a symbol in the
story that represents the evil that was overcome by the good. This story can now be better
analyzed when looking at the life of Delia which connects to Zora Neale Hurstons life. Delia was
physically abused many times by her husband, Sykes. He was also mentally and verbally
abusive to her by calling her names and constantly teasing her. This can be seen when he
pretends to scare Delia with a snake, and then calls her names for being scared. In Zora s life,
this is seen where she also grew up as an abused child from her father. Her father did not like her
very much because her sassy attitude. He said that she was too spirited and too mouthy for her
own good which hurt her feelings and made her very aware that she was not his favorite child in
the family(Boyd 27). Her father would also physically abuse her by threatening and spanking her
as a child. In the story, Sykes represents Zora s father because they were both abusive towards
women. Zora included this detail in her story to explain her life as a child. The story is put in the
perspective of a grown woman who had been abused, but how she would feel the same pain a
child would feel who had been abused. No matter the person s age, anyone

  • 2. Examples Of Pathos By Cesar Chavez I have found that words that are loaded with pathos and create a seductive euphoric are apt to promote nonsense (Gunter Grass). Cesar Chavez proves that ethos and pathos can actually be very effective in promoting their case. In an article he wrote, Chavez used the rhetorical strategies of ethos and pathos to make his case and express his opinion about violence and nonviolence. Both of these strategies proved to be very effective throughout his entire article. Chavez s main rhetorical strategy was pathos. Pathos led to how the story impacted the reader s beliefs; pathos is used to affect the feeling of the reader. It is effective because it allows the reader to connect with what is being said. Chavez uses the pathos argument to show American s feelings, the American people and people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ethos is also effective because it tells the reader what the right thing to do is. Most people will do their best to follow in the pathway that is considered the right way. Chavez states, the burdens of generations of poverty and powerlessness lie heavily in the fields of America. If we fail, there are those who will see violence as the shortcut to change (Chavez). This is ethos because it is saying we are who have to protect people from violence and if we fail, then it is our own fault. This is hitting a reader s moral side to do the right thing, or believe the right thing. This is effective because it works alongside the pathos being used. The pathos grabs the reader s attention then the ethos takes that attention and tells you what to do and how. This is effective because if the writer has their readers attention by use of ethos and pathos and can get them to take the blame, they will be more likely to follow what is being said in order to redeem themselves. This way of blaming the reader is especially effective because people naturally do not like taking the blame and will take paths that allow them to escape this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Clothing Company s Main Goal Introduction Ten Tree is a North American clothing company that was founded by two entrepreneurs Dave Luba and Kalen Emsley (Gamble et al. 2). The clothing company s main goal is to be, first most, an environmental company that plants trees, with its main goal being 10 trees planted for every product sold (Gamble et al. 6). By being an environmentally friendly clothing company, they plan to change the clothing industry with their unique product offering, environmental aid through reforestation, manufacturing through green energy and products, and the social environment from their business model (TenTree, Commitment ). Recently, they have faced the issue of having their product selling at a higher rate than they had expected. This has caused a high demand for the product, but also frustration from retailers and customers from their inability to produce enough of their product to match the demand. Their current onshore manufacturer cannot meet the amount nor the customization possibilities that are expected. This has led Ten Tree to look offshore to possibly expand their product offerings and produce enough to meet demands. Analysis Escan Swot Analysis As fairly new clothing company Ten Tree just started near the middle of 2011 (Gamble et al. 1) having key strengths internally set them apart from other clothing businesses. One of the many things that Ten Tree is great at doing is marketing. Ten tree solely relies on social media to advertise both its brand and its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. External Pressure On Public Administration After reading through the syllabus, there appear to be many direct linkages between this course and the previous courses that I have participated in. The first module focuses on external pressures on public administration. I learned about external forces on public administrators in Introduction to Public Administration, and Managing Change in the 21st Century. Though Introduction to Public Administrationonly gave a vague overview of external pressures, Managing Change gave greater detail on how there are forces outside of government, including citizens, interest groups and private sector companies who all will influence the decision making process. These same courses also focused on the internal pressures within organizations and government that will also impact the decision making processes of public administrators. Budgeting is also a topic that I have experience with. Budgeting in the public sector is entirely different than budgeting in the private sector. Lastly, my previous public administration courses emphasized the importance of performance expectation and improvement. Efficiency and effectiveness is a goal that public administrators everywhere should work towards. Of my previous public administration courses, there are two courses that made a significant impact on me. Ethics and Policy Administration, and Personnel Administration in the Public Sector were my favorite courses. I enjoyed the Ethics and Public policy course, because it focused on not only the ... • 7. The Concept Of Automation Shrinking budgets, shortage of qualified personnel and growing workloads are shaping the organization of clinical laboratories and the networks around them. As a result, merging and consolidation of institutions is commonplace to take advantage of economies of scale and as a result, laboratory automation has been in the rise connecting more sectors to tracks. A key question to answer is what is the level automation system is right for each clinical laboratory? Automation can improve lab s efficiency and help clinical outcomes. . However, each center must value its own objectives of automation for each sector and define if they will require modular type automation systems or automation. The concept of a consolidated laboratory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this sense, a definition of automation would include the use of combined and computer set, robotics and the analyzers to manipulate the samples before, during and after measurements. The automation of the laboratory, in the broad sense, affects all stages of the analytical process. This means that new organizational approaches ranging from automation of individual processes to reorganization projects and total automation. Between both situations there are an important variety of scenarios that lead to models of laboratory. Total laboratory automation (TLA) involves the integration of analyzers together with pre analytic and post analytic. The work of a total automation system begins by managing the samples in an input module that classifies and loads them in the carriers, centrifuges tubes, uncaps them and direct them to the analyzers. The samples, after sampled by the analyzer are stored temporarily in dedicated output location, from where they may be automatically recovered in case it rerun or reflex testing in necessary. The automation of clinical laboratories, when done properly and in accordance with to the needs of each center, provides benefits that include an efficient increase in productivity, the possibility of adding new analytical procedures without increasing the resources human, the centralization of processes, reliable management of samples with full traceability, the standardization of the analytical process, a greater guarantee of ... • 8. Summary Of Stanley Milgram s 1963 Obedience Study In Week 1, students focused on research ethics and whether (or not) social psychologist Stanley Milgram s 1963 obedience study was ethical (Mason, 2018). Milgram organized the study because he wanted to know how people might become strongly influenced against their personal moral and belief structures (Mason, 2018). Roscoe argued that Milgram s 1983 disobedience study was completely ethical because the organizer pre advised subjects as to the voluntary nature of the research and because deception is justified within psychological research. Roscoe also declared that no Milgram study participant experienced any negative long term psychological effect. Additionally, Roscoe contended that all subjects were told, post study, that the administered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Milgram s obedience paradigm is widely accepted to have arisen from an inclination to surrender responsibility to authoritarian figures (Reicher, Haslam, Smith, 2012). However, this paradigm must be held suspect because of blatant ethical considerations weakening conclusions. Fundamentally, Milgram s was responsible for protecting his subjects. He did not protect them. He chose to use deceptive methods, which led to short term trauma and possibly long term, according to at least one participant. The outcome could have been far worse, with participants succumbing to heart attack or stroke resulting from the trauma. • 9. The Origin Of Electricity And Magnetism The Origin of Electricity and Magnetism This paper is mainly about the origin and discoveries of electricity and magnetism. It is solely a summary of two natural phenomenon which have changed everything about our way of life and has ushered us into a remarkable new age. First and foremost, it is about the fundamental idea of how electricity and magnetism came about, then, the development and discoveries of sources of electricity and magnetism by many inventors and the latter discoveries of mega production. When I was a little boy, I used to wonder what causes lightning and thunder. When rain comes, I sometimes see intermittent lightning for a while before you can hear the sound of a spark which is like two short circuited power cables. At school, we all learnt about matter, which consists of atoms and molecules and every atom has a nucleus and electron(s), inside the nucleus contains an equal number of protons and neutrons. The electrons revolve round the nucleus of the atom in order to keep it stable. Protons are positively charged particles, neutrons are neutral and electrons are negative charge particles. The nucleus is surrounded by shells; these are simply orbitals in which an electron(s) can be found. The number of orbitals depends on how many electrons the atom has. The electrons which are in the outer most orbitals have a tendency of being lost or shared by another atom in order to create a more stable configuration. Long before any knowledge of electricity ... • 10. Stereotypes In Watership Down In the story, Watership Down, the rabbits tell stories about a trickster rabbit named El ahrairah and the rabbits have a parallel action between the stories. The story is about few rabbits who leave their warren because one of the rabbits feels that there is danger near them and they decide to go far away from their home. The rabbits tell stories at times when something big or bad is happening. The stories are all about a past rabbit, El ahrairah who tricks other rabbits to do good things for his warren and to collect food. Many of the plans that the rabbits make are similar to the tricks that El ahrairah does. In Watership Down, a rabbit named Dandelion tells stories about El ahrairah and Hazel s rabbits are influenced by the stories to make plans that relate to El ahrairah s tricks. First of all, Hazel s rabbits are influenced by a disguise plan that E ahrairah uses to steal the lettuce from the king and the rabbits includes it into a plan that the rabbits make in the Efrafa warren. Woolf partakes in a luncheon at each college. The meals are metaphorical devices that she uses to describe the poverty women s colleges have and in comparison to the lavishness of a men s. Woolf s selection of detail is evident in the way she describes the meals and sets a tone. The men s lunch is luxurious and rich as ...so relate it to rice and tapioca would be an insult. Woolf uses this as a way to help the reader understand that the meal was higher than a basic staple and to refer as such is an offense. The course also help describes the tone of the men s college. The men s luncheon is ...profound, subtle. As the way the lighting is a ...rich yellow flame of rational intercourse. The meal is a time of relaxation for as there is no need to hurry. • 12. Involvement of Canonical Insulin To look at the involvement of canonical insulin/PI3K/Akt pathway in adipocytes leptin secretion the study measured it using insulin resistant DIO mice with HFD and CD fed mice, with the HFD mice gaining higher body and fat mass. Cell lysate of both HFD and CD fed mice were subjected to western blotting and it was observed that phospho Akt level in adipocytes from HFD fed mice was lower than the CD fed mice after insulinstimulation, showing insulin resistancein the HFD fed mice. Also, the fasting leptinlevel of HFD fed mice is ten times higher than the CD fed mice. Refeeding, resulted in no significant increase in plasma leptin levels in HFD fed mice after two hours, whereas with the CD fed mice there was a significant increase in plasma leptin levels. This implies that leptin production and/or secretion after refeeding is impaired in HFD fed mice. To verify that there is a decrease in systematic leptin level, the researchers isolated primary adipocytes from HFD and CD fed mice and then determined ISLS in ex vivo. The result was that ISLS was significantly lower in primary adipocytes from HFD fed mice. This supports the hypothesis that impaired ISLS in HFD fed mice in vivo and ex vivo was dependent on PI3K/Akt activation. • 13. The Impact Of The Canadian Banking System Although, Canada is a close neighbor of the US, its economy did not seem be much affected by the recent 2008 global crisis. For explanation, we need to take a look at Canada s banking system and regulations. Bordo, Redish, and Rockoff explain that despite of the fact that both countries started out as colonies of Great Britain, their banking systems evolved differently. For example, Canada banking system was created as a system of large financial institutions that evolved into oligopoly due to the entry restrictions, whereas the US banking system was fragmented and fragile. Further, the Canadian banking system had absorbed the mortgagemarket, investment banking, and was tightly regulated by one overarching regulator. However, the US... However, Alan Walks explains that Canadian banks managed the crisis fairly well due to the bailout, which was handled quickly without media attention and scrutiny through the government institutions and programs (Walks 2014). Currently, Canadian financial sector is dominated by six large banks and a number of smaller institutions. The banks in Canada are allowed to combine investment banking and deposit taking functions (Walks 2014). Until 2006, the mortgage loans in Canada were issued for 25 years with minimum 5 percent down payment. When the homeowners default in their mortgage, they are still legally responsible of their debt even after they sell their property or abandon it. Walks points out: All lenders issuing CMHC insured mortgages are protected from losses on both principal and interest in the event of default (Walks 2014). Furthermore, the United States shadow banking sector entered Canadian market after 2001, offering interest only and subprime mortgage loans. Due to not providing mortgage insurance, the shadow banking sector services were not accepted by the big banks and traditional lenders. However, in 2006, after the election of a new federal government and intense lobbying by the US firms, Canada changed its banking standards. New private competitors were allowed to enter Canadian mortgage insurance market and lending terms were extended to 40 years of amortization with no down payment. Some of the officials in Canada ... • 14. A Treatment Option For Multiple Sclerosis Alemtuzumab as a treatment option for multiple sclerosis: A Critical Review Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disabling disease that affects about 1.1 million people worldwide, majority of who form part of the western population (Wilkinson and Lennox, 2005; Zabriske, 2009). MS mainly results from autoimmunity and is characterized by progressive damage to the central nervous system (CNS) leading to poor motor coordination in the limbs as well as vision abnormalities (Karp, 2013; Adamczyk Adamczyk Sowa, 2016). MS establishes itself through a dysfunctional immune system, which causes immune cells (ICs) to attack the myelin sheath, a process termed as demyelination. The myelin sheath forms an insulating layer around the axons of nerve cells and facilitates the conduction of nerve impulses. Hence, the deterioration of myelin as a result of autoimmune attack, disrupts signal conduction along the axons; this progressively establishes the symptoms of MS (Saladin 2008; Karp 2013). MS is established in two phases: a primary inflammatory response phase, which leads to the accumulation of ICs in the brain followed by demyelination, which results in neuronal degeneration. The inflammatory phase is triggered by an unknown factor, possibly the presence of antigens from an infection in the brain, which activates T lymphocyte cells that are auto reactive for brain antigens (Murphy, 2016). The blood brain barrier then becomes permeable allowing the entry of the activated T cells that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most of these people were from a geographic area that had advanced technology, large populations, and a large workforce. This area started in the Middle East and spread laterally within a similar environment that provided a fertile habitat for farmer gatherers. Jared Diamond discovered that approximately 13,000 years ago man started out as hunter gatherers following seasonal game migration to provide food for their survival. Man would find whatever food that grew in that area to supplement the game animals for sustenance, but this activity would take a majority of his time and would be conditional to the regions environment and his own... The Middle East lost its advantage due to drought conditions. Egypt used the wheat, barley, sheep, goats, cows, and pigs to transform human society. Egypt produced enough food to free a workforce that built one of the wonders of the world, the pyramids. These engineers and inventers discovered resources in their environment to produce clay, steel, gunpowder, and paper. The scholars of the culturespread philosophy, religion, and politics. Paper and the invention of printing preserved knowledge and history, along with better steel and guns gave the power to dominate other cultures in less fortunate environments. Building sea worthy boats enabled the armies to conquer these cultures and take their resources for their own gain. Trading with other powerful cultures producing goods increased the diverse resources with which to become a superpower and to continue to dominate the sea and many different lands. • 17. The Role Of Judgment In The Film Primal Fear As I am going to use my skills of Critical Thinking and Errors of Judgment in the movie called Primal Fear by William Diehl to write a paper. Critical term is to describe forms of learning, thought, and analysis that go beyond the memorization and recall of information and facts. (http:/ /edglossary.org/critical thinking/). For instance, it is very important for students to analyze situations, to solve problems, and to make good decisions. An Error of Judgment occur in the process of sorting out and assessing evidence. This movie exercises the principal of critical thinking when attorney Martin Vail takes on the case of an alter boy who got accused of brutally murdering murdering the Archbishop of Chicago. Vail... Certain reinforcements, some positive, and some negative have conditioned their actions and thoughts. In this essay, I chose Burrhus Frederic Skinner who came up with the theory of operant conditioning. B. F. skinner,(March 20, 1904 August 18, 1990) is an American psychologist who believed that we do have such a thing as a mind, but that it is simply more productive to study observable behavior rather than internal mental events. The box contained a lever in the side and as the rat moved about the box it would accidentally knock the lever. As the lever move, a food pellet would drop into a container next to the lever. The rats quickly learned to go straight to the lever after a few times of being put in the box. The consequence of receiving food if they pressed the lever ensured that they would repeat the action again and again. Skinner illustrated negative reinforcement by placing a rat in his Skinner box and then subjecting it to an unpleasant electric current which caused it some discomfort. As the rat moved about the box it would accidentally knock into the lever. Immediately as it did so, the electric current would be switched off. The rats quickly learned to go straight to the lever after a few times of being put in the box. Rose s story puts the American judicial system on trial and comments on prejudices that were socially revenant in the 1950 s. The interaction between twelve diverse jurors brought together to decide the fate of a young defendant in what appears as an open and shut trial has become an American classic and is considered a demonstration of our legal system. • 31. The Importance Of Sexual Conduct In 18th Century Colonial... In seventeenth eighteenth century Colonial Latin America, definitions of honor were expressed through a complex set of behavioral codes that served to regulate personal and social conduct. One s ability to approximate ideals of honor and embody those ideals laid the foundation for familial values and proved to be an integral tool for distinguishing people by ethnic and economic factors. Sexual conduct became a fundamental component of honor as the constructions of male and female sexuality were defined through the honor paradigm. Pressures to maintain honorability proliferated when temptations of the flesh clashed theological values set forth by the Church. Confession aided individuals to resolve these discourses and any possible instances of sin. Most importantly, confession was imperative to uncovering human weaknesses and understanding the complexity of social relationships that espoused sexual transgressions. Sexual transgressions exposed the paradoxical nature of canon law by providing enclaves of power to be harnessed and exploited by those most oppressed in the colonial system: non elite women. The actions catalyzed by this specific group demonstrated effective strategies for subverting colonial power, the most defiant of which involved sexual witchcraft. Unlike their elite counterparts, plebeian women, especially those who occupied the lower social strata, were least likely to experience internalized conflicts over whether to challenge male domination directly or ... Why Philadelphia Is Not For Affordable And Nutritious Food Philadelphia is not exceptional in terms of the characteristics or poverty status from its residents when compared to other large urban areas. Yet it has the second lowest number of supermarkets of major cities in the nation. The greater Philadelphia region has seventy two fewer supermarkets in low income neighborhoods (Duane Perry). This shortage of supermarkets means that poor residents must travel out of their neighborhoods to purchase food, or shop at more expensive convenience stores with less selection and often poor quality. With many different interests, beliefs, values, opinions, and feelings, many online communities are bound to be equally as varied. After all, the Net is made up of hundreds of thousands of separate communities, each with its own special character (Bruckman l71). Consequently, each individual user can find a community that suits their personal interests or thoughts. With variety promised on the Net, many see their differences as something we need to cultivate and cherish (Bruckman 178). CHAPTER 3 METHODOLOGY This project work is gives the fundamental principles of duct system or air distribution system design for multi story building. There are mainly three type of duct sizing method namely equal friction method, modified friction method (static regain method) and velocity reduction method. In present day the use of manual duct calculator is normal and computer aided duct design is becoming more popular. Also to learn the friction chart is very important to use this manual duct calculator because these are the foundation of the other method. This will provide the necessary knowledge to duct design error and overcome to these error. • 35. The Australian Red Cross Blood Service Essay 1. Context and Problem The Australian Red Cross Blood Service (ARCBS) has identified a long standing issue of poor repeat blood donation from young donors, in particular males. While this group of the population has a high number of new donors, it has been found they are also the least loyal, which poses a problem for both current and future blood stocks. As a marketing consultancy firm, we have been commissioned to analyse the issues surrounding blood donation in Australia, and to devise three cost effective marketing strategies aimed at increasing repeat donation from this demographic. 2. Literature Review The topic of blood donation well researched, with strategies having been devised to try and increase donation rates all over the world. Australia faces a challenging set of circumstances, in which remuneration for donation is illegal (ARCBS, 2013). It is thought this may be a contributing factor to the poor repeat donation rates in youth demographics, for whom altruism is no longer a primary driving factor when considering donation (Russell Bennett, Hartel, Previte Russel, 2012). Since the iconic work by Titmuss (1970), blood donation has been considered one of the only true altruistic behaviours, and many marketing strategies have been engineered around this concept. Several authors, however, have argued that blood donation is not a case of true altruism , and is actually a case of impure altruism , whereby the donor receives personal utility and improvement ... Alternatively, this may have proved useful, as traders would have experienced little difficulty in moving across the border between the Danelaw and the English. The impact of the Vikings on linguistic elements of Anglo Saxon society is still questionable, as the term Danelaw was not coined until c.1008, and there is little evidence to suggest any Scandinavian origin. Designing A New Design For A Distributed Operating System As the Chief Information Officer working in my business, I will be proposing a new design for the current network to attempt to improve the quality and productivity of 250 client computers and 50 servers. My first decision would be to opt to change the system to a distributed operating system (DOS). I would choose this course of action because instead of centralizing all the resources on one server, which could lead to problems in the event of a hardware failure, you could distribute them across multiple instances decreasing the likelihood of system outages, and making errors easier to deal with ( Definition of Distributed n.d). Although this model will be much more expensive to implement, I believe that it will lead to better growth in the future. The reliability of the network will be increased, which leaves room for improvement, adding more client systems, or even servers.
