The digestive system is made up of over 13 organs, including the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and anus. It breaks down food, absorbs nutrients, and removes waste from the body. Food enters the mouth where it is broken down by teeth and the tongue before being swallowed and passing through the esophagus into the stomach for further breakdown. Digested material then moves into the small intestine for nutrient absorption and later the large intestine where waste is compacted before leaving the body through the anus. Not waiting two hours between eating and activity can cause digestive problems.
