The Ocean s Influence To The Development Of The Ocean
Bibliographic Information: Smithsonian. Whales only recently evolved into giants when changing ice,
oceans concentrated prey: Analysis of fossil, modern whale s points to when and how whales started
bulking up. ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 24 May 2017. . Introduction: After analyzing the fossils or
preserved remains of whales, scientist have determined that whales have only recently evolved to be
the large animals that we know today. Though not sure, the scientist state that the evolutionary shift
was due to the increase of ice sheets in the North. This increase in ice caused a shift in the
concentration of food available in the ocean, increasing the benefits of having a bigger body. This is
important to the scientific community because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The shift in whale size occurred during the beginning of the Ice Age and the increase in ice sheets may
have caused a change in the distribution of food. Before the ice sheets, food would have been evenly
distributed; however, as the ice sheets formed, run off would ve increased the amount of food like krill
and plankton in the water, this increase along with the filter feeding mechanism of the baleen whale
would have given the advantage to larger whale, who would have been able to utilize the dense
aggregations of prey in the water.
Evaluation
A. This study mainly focuses within Big Idea 1, the process of evolution drives the diversity and unity
of life. Within the study, the scientists observed how organism are linked by a common ancestry (1.B)
through cladograms and the width of the skull from fossil records. With these fossils, the scientists
observed the shift of size in the whale s bodies and how organisms from a common ancestor change
and differentiate in structure over time. This allowed for them to see what traits were gained and lost,
causing not only speciation in the organisms but also overall phenotypic changes. Similarly, in this
study, the scientists were able to unveil how life continues to evolve with a changing environment.
Extinctions and speciation occur all the time due to the environment. Though it s not proven, the

Developing Countries Supporting Afghanistan As A...
Introduction
Afghanistan is a developing country; the country has faced troubles and difficulties soon after its
independence. They have had problems in the development of constitutions and regulations. The
selection of leader was an issue and one of the major tasks was to prepare military for the defence as
well as the protection of the state. In order to resolve all these issues, finance was the significant need.
Despite problems the country is upgrading slowly and gradually. There are numerous countries
supporting Afghanistan in terms of finance and monetary forms, but the support provided by
International Monetary Fund is significant. International Monetary Fund along with World Bank is
serving Afghanistan since its partition and they both have lent a huge sum of finance to the
government so that they can continue with the progress and prosperity of the state.
Considering the financial figures than according to the figures taken out by the Development
Assistance Committee of OECD, an approximate of twenty billion dollars was endowed to the state in
between 1960 till 2002. This is such a huge amount that assisted Afghanistan to rehabilitate its
industries, factories and businesses.
The above amount was actually derived from the three major international financial academies. They
are International Monetary Funds, Asian Development Banks and World Banks.

Women who met the inclusion criteria and referred to two hospitals in North East of Iran were
selected using purposive convenience sampling method. Data were collected using a demographic and
obstetric questionnaire and 168 items food frequency questionnaire, and were analyzed using SPSS22,
applying Mann Whitney, t test and chi square.
Results: This study showed that dietary habits of women with preterm labor is more unfavorable
compared to women with term labor (P=0.023). Generally, dietary habit of more than half of the
women with preterm labor, in this study, was assessed unfavorable. In terms of different food groups,
daily intake of vegetables was significantly lower in women with preterm labor (P=0.02).
Consumption of dairy products was also lower in women with preterm labor than women with term
labor which was significant (P=0.05).
Conclusion: To prevent adverse outcomes of preterm delivery more attention regarding nutritional
planning for pregnant women seems to be essential.
Keywords: Dietary habit, Preterm delivery, Pregnancy.
Introduction
Despite the advances in prenatal care and improving health indicators, yet 5 10% of all pregnancies
are terminated as preterm, and prematurity is still the leading cause of neonatal mortality in developed
and developing countries (1, 2). Preterm infant is defined as the infant who is born before 37
completed weeks of pregnancy (3).

Terrorism And Terrorism Essay
Radicalization is a process of socialization to extremism. Radicalization processes is what lead to acts
of terrorism. It thrives in an enabling environment with a sediments of injustice, exclusion and
humiliation among the terrorists groups. Triggering factors varying in accordance to individual
experience and personal pathways to radicalization, it is due to global, sociological and political
drivers such as extreme marginalization, general decline or globalization. Hence, to analyze the
drivers of radicalization, we need to understand the collective grievances behind radicalism by making
comparisons of primary causes of radicalization which will ultimately lead to terrorism in different
terrorists groups like ISIS and LTTE, will allow us to decide if whether terrorism is primarily due to
globalization.
Terrorism is primarily due to globalization. Due to globalization, there was a widespread of
dissatisfaction, due to the very rapid changes in society, and the Western supremacy. Breeding grounds
for radicalism and terrorist recruitment emerge not because of deprivation, but rather the time at which
negative social, economic and political trends converge. Especially in the Arab world, relative
deprivation, the absence of opportunities relative to growing aspirations and expectations. Information
technology provides an interconnected nature of the world and globalization create an acute awareness
about opportunities available elsewhere. Allowing more to be more conscious

Lakota Woman
The relationship between religion and violence is extremely complicated and misunderstood, but by
analyzing the books, Lakota Woman written by Mary Crow Dog and Holy Terrors written by Bruce
Lincoln, the relationship becomes more defined within each texts particular religious world. Lakota
Woman and Holy Terrors both offer detailed accounts that portray the many ways in which the
authoritative roles of religion are used to legitimate violence. Lakota Woman follows the life of Mary
Crow Dog, a woman who decides to reconnect with her Lakota heritage in hopes of gaining a stronger
sense of identity and purpose. The text explores the ways in which religion play a crucial role in the
construction of Mary Crow Dog s identity. However, as a Lakota ... Show more content on

In many cases it is natural to interpret the events of September 11th as purely evil, however, Lincoln
argues that the terrorist attacks were profoundly and intensely religious. For this reason, Lincoln
attempts to clarify what religion does and how it can be used to legitimate violent acts such as the
terrorist attacks of September 11th. To support his argument, Lincoln offers a definition of religion
that is more precise than the definition previously discussed in this essay. Lincoln argues that within
religion there is a religious maximalist approach and a religious minimalist approach. The maximalist
approach is the, conviction that religion ought to permeate all aspects of social, indeed of human
existence (Lincoln 5). Essentially maximalists believe that religion should be considered the most
important thing above all else. In contrast, minimalists believe that religion should be restricted to an
important set of (chiefly metaphysical) terms, protects its privileges against state intrusion but restricts
its activity and influence to its specialized sphere (Lincoln 5). Lincoln then goes on to define religion
as having four parts. The four parts being; discourse, which contains speech acts that create a social
reality in which people live, as well as, textual examples of transcendence. Secondly, there is practice
which consists of the rituals and ceremonies of religion. Thirdly there is, community which refers to
the people practicing the religion and constructing a religious world around it. Lastly there is,
institution which is the recognized regulation and representation of the religion, its practices and
community. All of these factors make up Lincoln s more specific definition of

The Problem Of Drug Addicts
Currently, the society is employing a significant amount of money and efforts to deal with the
continuous increasing of drug addicts within their roots. In fact, the drug problem can be considered
by the majority as the greatest problem of the 21th century. Just look, on how it worsened in the last
years. Now, it seems that the range of consumers has expanded, and now is embracing almost all ages
and classes. In fact, the teens are making the drugs seem like a fashion trend, in which those who do
not follow it will be excluded. Considering this fact, and relating it to the need of the human being to
feel accepted by the society or a group, helps to understand why the number of drug addicts is
increasing.

Considering the criteria cited above, I had two ideas a comic book or a videogame; but, in the attempt
of minimizing as much as possible the costs of the proposal, without compromising the effectiveness
of the same, I chose the comic book.
I Previous Solution Surely, because of the severity of the drug problem, several solutions were
extrapolated and implemented in the attempt to deal with it. However, ones were more efficient than
others, but at the same time, none of them represented a real solution for a long time project. For
instance, in the article The War On Drugs ... , written by Ewan Hoyle, which is the founder of the
Liberal Democrats for Drug Policy Reform, there are several solutions to deal with the drug problem,
but each one of them has its constraints (303). One of them, and it was the chosen solution by the
author, included a treatment with diamorphine, which is a pharmaceutical drug that changes the
neurological system and inhibit the desires of the consumer (303). Even though it seems an extreme
measure, the article showed that it carried a high percentage of success on the sample trials. On the
other hand, such measure seems to carry a lot of constraints related to the costs. For the costs, even
Hoyle stated that this treatment was expensive (304). In his attempt, to back up it, Hoyle stated that
the government must do a revision of its policies in a way that facilitate the market for this medicine
(304). Well, the

How Reiki Changed My Life
Reiki energy has had a profound effect on different areas of my life. For starters, I normally offer
myself a full body reiki session at the end of the day and offer myself mini sessions throughout the
day (or whenever I find myself uneasy and ungrounded). It allows me to center and ground myself in
the Now instead of allowing myself feel trapped by fear. I find that reiki allows me to bring out the
best of me.
I also enjoy offering myself the energy before doing an oracle/tarot reading. I find the readings come
out clearer and sometimes nearly laughable (at least it is how I feel). For example, I was giving myself
a reading with my Zen cards and my question was in regards to my past life. The first card I drew was
past life. This gave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of which as time passed, developed to be answers I sought for. It just took patience to see the
answers were already there. Reiki was this factor that allowed me to open my eyes to really see. Not in
the physical sense, but from the heart. And because of this, I understand with patience and gratitude, I
was able to manifest and connect with energies around me. The more grateful I was the quicker
manifesting became. Since last year, I began to develop a better understanding of energies and how
they mirror your vibration. Example: A few months ago, I found myself not wanting to be at work
anymore and felt such pain/resistance being there. I realized my relationship with my supervisor had
become tense and in a way it was disheartening since I was not sure what changed in our dynamic. I
placed this question upon the universe and began to send her distant reiki. I used what I learned in
reiki II to clear the office space as well. I focused a lot on my intent to help her and to find gratitude
for working with Girls Inc. of NYC. A few weeks later, she spoke to me about her issues with our
CEO and how she realized we were not the same team anymore. I was surprised she realized it, since
it seemed she did not notice or mind the change. I was able to use reiki to manifest a better
relationship with my supervisor, and was truly grateful that the universe heard me!

During the 1950s, Pepsi evolved from the low cost price leader to a more lifestyle drink approach. For
example, as Americans became more health conscious, Pepsi introduced slogans such as The Light
Refreshment and Refreshing Without Filling. Other new advertising campaigns included slogans such
as Be Sociable, Have a Pepsi and Now Its Pepsi, For Those Who Think Young to concentrate on a
younger market. It was this younger target market and the post war baby boom generation that set the
stage for Pepsi s long lasting brand image. It all started with Pepsi advertiser Alan Pottasch, who
recognized the different nature of the newest generation of consumers. Whereas consumers before the
war were more cautious and price conscious, the post war baby boomer generation was carefree and
hopeful. Pepsi once again capitalized on the changing environment, and under Pottasch launched the

a new standard for advertising in America. The ads portrayed happy Americans living the American

became the forerunner of lifestyle marketing. Future campaigns continued to promote this brand
image, with slogans such as You ve Got a Lot to Live. Pepsi s Got a Lot to Give,

Autonomic Cloud Application and Services Abstract Clouds are large scale, complex systems. This

such as software (applications), platforms and infrastructures with a subscription based in a pay as you

The Yolk Sac And Its Effects On The Human Bodies
375 million years ago, a fish like creature crawled onto the land. This transition into an existence on
dry terrain gave rise to amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and finally to humans. As early reptiles
colonized in adverse new environments, they adapted features to help them survive during their
struggles for food and territory. Our reptilian ancestors were changing their bodies and these new
features are evident in our human bodies today. One of these features that link us to our reptilian
ancestors is the yolk sac which is evident in the human embryo as well as the eggs of reptiles. As
reptiles adapted to life on a dry earth, they needed to keep their eggs from drying out an so evolved a
new type of egg which enclosed the embryos in an amnion filled sac and covered it with a hard shell.
Reptiles and humans both carry the yolk gene but it is no longer functional in humans as we evolved
and no longer needed yolk to feed our embryos. But those broken yolk genes are still in our genome
and link us to these ancient egg laying animals. Skin is another important feature that connects us to
reptiles. In order to withstand the dry air on land, reptiles developed layers of dead skin to insulate
them and create a water tight barrier. Humans have inherited these same layers of dead skin to prevent
our bodies from drying out. Our skin not only protects our bodies but it is responsible for other
features which we share with our reptilian ancestors; important structures that originate

Organic Growth Walmart
Organic Growth at Walmart The latest trend or craze per say of the twenty first century has been that
of organic foods. The U.S market for organic food at one time was growing at a pace of 20% per year,
which is significantly greater as compared to the 3 4% of the food sector as a whole. This undeniable
growing demand in organic foods caught the attention of Douglas Degn, an executive vice president of
the wildly popular organization, Wal Mart. With the demand of organic products often outstripping
supply, Degn was faced with the decision of whether or not to jump on this shortage and give people
what they want out of organics from Wal Mart, or if he should continue to build on the products they
already offer to consumers, in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Organic consumers are not going to feel comfortable buying their premium organic foods from the
same place they could buy cheap home appliances, children s toys, or unfashionable clothing. What it
is recommended Wal Mart do in order to boost their sales is to improve the image of the products they
already have, so customers will buy more. The one area in which they could highly benefit improving
is their apparel, which is a higher margin section that is lagging behind in sales. By shifting into
selling more upscale, trendy clothes and housewares, Wal Mart would enable itself to appeal to higher
income consumers, possibly reaching out to that 15% of the population who do not shop at Wal Mart,
or even enticing current consumers to purchase these high margin products. They could accomplish
this by creating a fashion merchant position that would tour Wal Mart and competitors stores, and
suggest ways to adapt merchandise, floor plans and apparel to different groups. Degn should
reconsider the fact that Wal Marts business strategy of everyday low prices is what has made them
into the successful company they are today and shouldn t stray to far from what has made them
successful in order to increase profits. Degn should work on improving the products Wal Mart
currently sells instead of focusing on organic food, which is something they have never done before. If

This definition will work for the purposes of this paper. American popular culture has never been more
dominant internationally than in the middle of the 90s – nor more controversial. Serious money is
involved as pop culture is America s second biggest export after aircraft (Rockwell 1994). There is a
common perception that in the process of globalization American products dominate everywhere on
the world s markets. The fact that you can quench your thirst with Coca Cola in about 185 countries is
but one example of U.S. economic ambition (Stephens 1993, online). Likewise, European anti
globalization activists have long criticized Hollywood and its big budget studios for monopolizing the
world movie in dustry and, consequently, flooding other cultures with American iconolatry. The popu
larity of a movie like Jurassic Park (1993), for instance, was identified as threatening to the national
identity of other cultures. It has also been lamented that due to the widespread distribution of
industrialized music and the loss of music that is charac teristic of a certain culture, civilizations are
increasingly losing a sense of national identity and pride (cited in Lanza 2001, online).

A Christian Nation Research Paper
I rather to be in the middle of the road to decide that American nation is a Christian nation, because
neither the US Constitution nor the Declaration of Independence indicate any of Christianity in it,
even when the founding fathers mentioned the word God specifically, they used an extended metaphor
the Creator , which it has broader meaning than the word God. Of course, there were other religions
beside Christianity which had been practiced. But, it is an obvious that the foundation of the American
nation established on a Christian foundation. However, there are many Christian principles that
established the Declaration of Independence, which we cannot ignore. First, the rights of the people
who live in this nation have the right to resist, and these rights came from the Creator or from God as
the founding fathers translate by using bible to build the Constitution on. Furthermore, these rights had
to be protected and secured by a powerful government which is given by the consent of the people. In

Reasons, Causes And Effects Of Oppression In South Africa
Every single human being has two personalities, internal and external, a character that you embrace,
and a character that society embraces upon you. Human being creates inner character, but human
external character is created by oppression. In this discussion I will like to give a definition of
oppression, causes and effects of oppression and some possible solutions to empower an oppression.
According to Barker defined Oppression as The social act of placing severe restrictions on an
individual, group or institution. Typically, a government or political organization that is in power
places these restrictions formally or covertly on oppressed groups so that they may be exploited and
less able to compete with other social groups. The oppressed individual or group is devalued,
exploited and deprived of privileges by the individual or group which has more power. (Barker, 2003)
Also, the Blackwell Dictionary of Sociology defined social oppression as a Concept that describes a
relationship between groups or categories of between groups or categories of people in which a
dominant group benefits from the systematic abuse, exploitation, and injustice directed toward a
subordinate group. The relationship between whites and blacks in the United States and South Africa,
between social classes in many industrial societies, between men and women in most societies,
between Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland all have elements of social oppression in that

Essay On Social Phobia
The happiness and comfort of people stem from their ability to adapt to the environment and people.
To satisfy this need, they must interact positively in their relationships. People who are afraid of
people will have adjustment problems, which will lead to a lack of happiness, a normal daily life, and
the proper functioning of their tasks. This characteristic appears especially when someone is mixing
with people, talking, or doing a certain job in front of people. Then, the person feels scared and
ashamed. In addition, this person may not be able to speak, start stuttering or stammering. Some
people who are afraid to face people sometimes feel some physical symptoms such as increased
sweating, rapid heart palpitations, or dry throat. This kind of fear is called social phobia or social
anxiety, which is the unwarranted fear. Social phobia is a chronic psychological disease that is due to
several different causes.
Wrong dealing parents with their children during childhood is one of the most important reasons that
makes a person suffer from this type of fear, social phobia. Ignorance and lack of adequate attention to
children are one of the wrong dealings made by some parents. This disregard makes kids feel that they
are not worth attention. Thus, they do not have confidence in themselves. Moreover, the lack of
consistency in dealing with children causes them to be unaware of their parents reaction to their
behavior. For example, when parents are asserted in a particular

The Theme Of Social Class And Order
The Underlying Theme of Social Class and Order
In literature, themes are carefully interwoven with other aspects of the story and are slowly unraveled
as the plot advances to reveal to bigger picture. Authors use themes as a method to connect with their
audience on a personal and relatable level. Each individual interprets the theme in their own manner
depending on the past experiences they have had. Similarly, each author brings a sense of individuality
and authenticity to their works, impacting their subject matter and area of focus, in this case
specifically the theme. The Time Machine by H.G. Wells is a science fiction novel in which the Time

An author s background is a prime factor in the subject of a book. H.G. Wells humble upbringing and
political beliefs can easily be discerned through the writing. Wells grew up in poverty during the late
19th century in Kent, Great Britain, causing him to become interested in class conflict. His socialist
views come across in The Time Machine as it is his way to show the consequences of excessive
capitalism, thus the theme of social class and order emerges. Wells uses evolution as a form to
vindicate and reason the extreme schism of classes present in the book. The Time Traveller, which
seems to be an extension of Wells persona, implies the exclusive tendency of richer people [...] and the
widening gulf between them and the rude violence of the poor was a key factor in the splitting of the
human species along class lines, a direct hit on capitalism (Wells 62). The Elois or the Haves , live

as a result of the [continual adaptation] to their conditions of their labour (Wells 63). The Time

between each class. For instance, the Eloi are focused on beauty and comfort, and are content on
living upon the labours of fellowman , while the Morlocks assumed the role of the worker, relying on

further develop each child and young person s skills. For example within my setting I was working
with the nurture group and they received ten spellings every week. Most of the children within the
nurture group had SLCN. The children with SLCN always struggled with their spellings, so therefore I
provided my support to whoever wanted it. All the spellings they received every week had the same
sound in common, e.g. heat, meat, cheat, great. All of these words have eat in common. Within my
support I explain to the children that the words may sound differently but the spellings they always
received had sounds in common so therefore pointing this out they was able to think of the starting of
the word and knew each work has the same sound in and was then able to achieve more marks out of
ten on their spellings. This helped to boost their confidence and self esteem because they knew they
could do it.

The Law Of The Corn Laws
Another way in which a comparison of the two thinkers can be given with respect to the Corn Laws is
through their positioning on the issue of Say s Law. To introduce this concept, Jean Baptiste Say
developed the Law of Markets, which is commonly referred to as Say s Law, in his A Treatise on
Political Economy. He maintains that in order to consume, one must provide supplies for another s
demand in order to earn a unit of account to consume goods, meaning a consumer must also be a
producer (Say, I.XV.133). Therefore, the economy is a constant cycle of production, proving that
supply creates its own demand. Because of this implication, Say s Law can be viewed in relation to
the Corn Laws as the law implies both that an economy will equilibrate without a need for government
intervention and that free trade is non distortionary. Knowing this, it becomes evident that the law was
supported by Ricardo, albeit implicitly, and explicitly rejected by Malthus. This section will therefore
more indepthly move through the two thinker s opinions on the law to prove their stance on the greater
issue of the Corn Laws.
Malthus disagrees with Say s Law, as it oversimplifies the nuance of the economy through its failure
to account for the insufficiency of demand coupled with overproduction. The main argument about the
insufficiency of demand is brought about by the expenditure of the different social classes. The
insufficiency of demand he notes makes up his glut theory. For Malthus,

Id Ego And Superego In Mama Marema
The id, ego and superego are created during childhood as the child is learning about different aspects
of life. The id is the pleasure principle and is present from birth. It s drive is toward immediate
gratification. Its sources of energy are Eros and Thanatos. Eros is life instinct and Thanatos is death
instinct, sexual energy, and motivation. The ego mediates the demands of the id without going against
the restraints that the superego has on it. The ego follows the reality principle which is being able to
postpone gratification in accordance with reality. It can also repress desires that cannot be met in an
acceptable manner.

The Resurrection Is The Redemption From Sin Through Christ...
According to theologian Maja Weyermann, the resurrection is the redemption from sin through Christ
and therefore the nullification of death. In his biblical epistles to the Corinthians and the Romans, the
apostle Paul considers how the acts of Jesus Christ purge humanity of the previous exploits of Adam,
bringing salvation and life to all where there was previously sin and death. The initial parallels that
Paul draws between Adam and Jesus Christ became the building blocks by which church fathers
developed their own soteriology and theories of recapitulation. The most famous of which is St.
Irenaeus of Lyons, whose writings developed an early understanding of Christian theology in the late
second century. Drawing on Paul s biblical writings, Irenaeus further developed his theory of
atonement, or recapitulation, that focuses on the idea of a do over that undoes previously committed
sin. Based on the theological assertions made by Paul and Irenaeus, recapitulation in the greater
doctrine of salvation is achieved through Christ as the second Adam, the Virgin Mary as the second
Eve, and the Church as the second Eden.
The central claims concerning recapitulation are found in the Pauline epistles of First Corinthians and
Romans in the New Testament. The first biblical discussion of Paul s doctrine of salvation is found in
1 Corinthians 15. Paul claims, For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the
dead came also through a human being. For just as in

Essay On Zeus
The supreme ruler and king of gods, Zeus, is often mentioned as Jupiter and the sender of thunder,

Often referred to as the father of gods and men, he is a sky god who controls lightning.
(Britannica.com) Although the god is labeled most powerful and the mightiest of all, he is not perfect.
Zeus is known for his promiscuous action. Often times he fell in love with one woman after the other
and attempted to disguise his infidelity from his wife. Zeus left no woman behind in his crazy love
life, the god married and had children with his sister, Hera and. Hera was not Zeus only siblings. He
also had two brothers, Poseidon and Hades and another sister named Hestia. His parents are known as
Cronus and Rhea. Zeus was not just handed the title god of the sky, instead him and his two brothers
drew lots. The sea was given to Poseidon, the underworld to Hades, and Zeus was named lord of the
sky, rain god, and cloud gatherer. The eagle is considered sacred to this god. Zeus also treasures the
oak tree. It is often told that the gods will was revealed by the rustling of the oak tree. (Hamilton 27)
According to Greek mythology, Cronus was intimidated by his children. So in attempt to keep reign,
he ate his children as they were born. However, Rhea saved Zeus. She hid the baby and gave Cronus a
rock wrapped in cloth instead. Cronus fell for the trick and ate the rock. Zeus grew up and became

Internal And External Factors Of Small Business
Small businesses have gained steadily more importance after they started to rise in the mid1990s.
They are characterised by a high chance of entrepreneurial risk; their link is inborn and cannot be rid
of; however, small firms are steadily progressing and acquiring a noteworthy role in nowadays society.
These types of businesses are particularly significant for the global economy and for the commercial
flow; they are known by governments worldwide for their contribution to the economic stability and
growth, employment and new job creation and social cohesion and development (Morrison et al,
2003). For instance, according to Delephanty, in the US small business employs almost half workforce
of the country and creates two thirds of all net new jobs; that s why small businesses have a major
importance worldwide (2015). In 2007, the number of small businesses in the UK was up to 4,6
million and they contributed to almost 50% of employment (BERR, 2008). There are several elements
that help the entrepreneur determine the success or the failure of SBs; they distinguished between
internal and external factors. Their importance can be denoted by the way they influence the progress
of the company.
The internal, or organisation, factors are indispensable; in fact, some believe that managing the
strengths of internal operations is the key to business success (PestelAnalysis, 2015). They come
directly from inside the company and involve a specific control undertaken by the

Ocean Iron Fertilization By Oceanographer John Martin
In recent years, ocean iron fertilization has become a topic of widespread debate in the scientific,
political and legal communities. First conceptualized by oceanographer John Martin in the 1980s,
ocean iron fertilization is a geoengineering technology that involves the intentional introduction of
iron to the surface waters of high nutrient, low chlorophyll (HNLC) areas of the oceans in order to
stimulate the growth of phytoplankton blooms. Phytoplankton blooms mature over a period of thirty to
sixty days and like terrestrial plants, they too absorb carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. When the
phytoplankton die, organic carbon material sinks to the ocean floor and atmospheric carbon dioxide is
sequestered in the deep ocean for relatively long spans of time. By perpetuating the growth of carbon
capturing phytoplankton blooms, ocean iron fertilization reduces atmospheric carbon dioxide, thereby
mitigating the profound consequences of climate change.
With the world s carbon dioxide levels on the rise and the effects of global warming becoming
increasingly devastating, it is imperative now more than ever that every mitigation strategy be
thoroughly explored. Although ocean iron fertilization may seem like a fairly simple method of
sequestering carbon dioxide, there is in fact a plethora of issues linked to this mitigation strategy. The
aim of this literature review is to examine and analyze some of the aspects that make ocean iron
fertilization such a controversial method of

The day after Donald Trump was sworn into office as the 45th president of the United Sates, millions
of people, in the U.S. and more than 60 foreign countries, protested Trump s presidency and policies
(Lee, Protesting Trump with the Women s March ). One month has passed since his inauguration day,
and Trump s actions as president have given rise to continued protests and outcries. One of those
voices crying in the wilderness is Thomas Friedman, columnist for the New York Times. Friedman has

Due to the U.S. s interdependencies with other countries, Friedman argued that this country needs a
national leader who can see how all the dots (or presidential decisions) connect, and he clearly
believes that Donald Trump is the exact opposite of what this country needs and what the majority
wants.
As previously noted, Friedman used logos, or claims of fact, to support and further his argument. He
factually summarized the Trans Pacific Partnership, the North American security envelope, and events
of 9/11. He detailed Trump s actions, which have been reported repeatedly by various news sources.
For example, various media outlets reported that Trump made disparaging remarks about Judge
Robart, calling him a so called judge and labeling his ruling ridiculous (Heisig, Trump s comments on
judiciary ). Furthermore, his analogies and cause effect relationships evoked cognitive, rational
responses. For example, when arguing that the results of Trump s wall to keep out Mexican
immigrants would cause problems for U.S. companies doing business in and with Mexico, he
compared it to tighter security at the U.S. Mexican border during 9/11, which caused U.S. companies
like Ford to shut down assembly lines because their supply chain extends to Mexico. Additionally, he
appealed to the reader s logic when discussing how Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. paired together after
9/11 to share information about potential security threats entering North America and how building a

Essay on Origins of Popular Sayings
English is an amazing language that reflects many different cultures. Americans have many popular
sayings and figures of speech that, if taken literally, make no logical sense. If you mention the phrases
white elephant, spill the beans, or to pull someone s leg, they make no sense unless you are familiar
with the culture.
The word idiom is used to describe these forms of speech. Idioms are considered to be part of a nation

American English to contain at least 25,000 idiomatic expressions. People learning a new language

In the early 1700 s an English dramatist named John Dennis created an invention that would simulate
the sound of thunder in one of his theatrical productions. His play failed dismally. However, later he
found that his invention was used to create the sound of thunder in another performance. Dennis was
quoted as saying, They will not let my play run, but they steal my thunder! The phrase was overheard,
passed along and became a popular saying used in the English language.
To Spill the Beans
When someone spills the beans, they reveal a secret unintentionally. This popular saying has its origin
back in the days of ancient Greece.
When people were voted into many organizations, the membership voted secretly using colored beans
as counters. If one voted for the inclusion of the applicant, one would discretely drop a white bean into
an opaque container. If one voted against the applicant, one would secretly drop a black or brown bean
in the container. Only the officials knew the results of the voting.
Occasionally, an awkward person might accidentally knock over the container, spilling the beans and
revealing the results of the vote before the appointed time. This is how the phrase spilling the beans
has come to describe someone telling a secret.

Secret Life Of Bees Maturity
People can start out one way, and by the time life gets through with them they end up completely
different (Kidd 293). This quote from August Boatwright perfectly encompasses what happens to Lily
during The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. All throughout the novel, the increased maturity of
Lily s character is very noticeable. At the beginning of the book, Lily, a 14 year old white girl who is
living in the South in the 1960 s, accepts segregation without questioning it. By the end, her
perspective on life and others changes to reflect a more sophisticated woman. Through

What Is Gandhi s Critique Of Modern Civilization
Highlight and assess Gandhi s critique of modern civilization and relate it to the debate about the
nature and practice of development that surfaced with Gandhi s 1945 exchange with Nehru [in Sudhir
Chandra s essay] and continue into the post independence era is with us today.
Through the successor ... Gandhi was pitted against a whole discourse which the successor and
virtually the whole country considered as the only rational mode of ordering life, be it individual or
collective (Chandra 44).
In every argument at least two people are involved. However, in many significant controversies or,
even more so, in contestations of well accepted norms, the real debate rages not simply between two

While Gandhi never precisely defines modern civilization , such a thing may indeed be impossible as
the discourse already, to some extent, defines us, he does offer an analogy to understand its nature. As
this kind of civilization exists in idealized forms in its literature and theories and realized forms
throughout Europe, America, and their colonies, he considers these its identity. From this, one can
infer its nature as one learns of a tiger. While, in theory, a tiger could change its character, this
question completely misses the point that the very nature of the tiger is at fault (Swaraj 27 28). The
preaching of modern civilization, as rhetoric, plus the real patterns of this kind of living comprise the
object of his criticism. This marks one of his first important differences from the discourse he opposes.
Where Gandhi considers the tiger in terms of its nature and as a pattern of behavior, the technical
rationality of the discourse he is arguing against considers a tiger as a particular collection of
biological specificities that may sometimes act in predictable ways, but is entirely mutable. While this
summary of Gandhi makes him sound more like Plato than is fair, his arguments tend to look for
deeper meanings where possible and permanent truths as opposed to the myopia of the discourse he is
criticizing. Similarly, Gandhi claims that only men with mature thoughts are capable of ruling
themselves (Swaraj 16), whereas modern civilization boasts

Globalization Assignment
Written Assignment Unit 7
POLS 1503 Globalization
Introduction
As our world becomes more connected, the free travel of people and goods continue to rise in
dramatic fashion. There are many benefits such as increased trade, improved access to imported
goods, increased tourism and exposure to new cultures. With these benefits comes a risk of bringing
diseases across international borders. International travel and trade has brought new challenges to
public health care, and the threat of deadly illnesses spreading rapidly.
If the movement of people, food, and manufactured goods can have such a negative impact on public
health, should steps be taken to reduce these flows?
There are always risks with travel and imports. The benefits to the economy and increased access to
goods are worth the risks. However, in cases of emergency, it is completely reasonable to limit trade
and travel from affected areas. When cases of mad cow disease are detected, it is common to block
imports from the affect nations (Levin Institute, 2017a). During the outbreak of ebola in Africa in
2014, the Obama administration opted for a temporary travel ban from west
Africa (Roberts, 2014). During the threat of an epidemic spreading across borders, extreme measures
have to be taken.
What other options are there for lowering the spread of global diseases?
International public health officials have made recommendations to help prevent the spread of disease.
These actions include a plan to monitor for new

A Dill Pickle Critical Analysis
A Dill Pickle by Katherine Mansfield represents the women s pursuit of independence through
loneliness. Mansfield captures real life stories, not ones fabricated to appeal to the masses. This story
takes place in a café, a couple meets again after 6 years apart. Their meeting emphasizes the women
(Vera s) cynical look on love and her sensitive personality. The man exudes arrogance and has a way
with words. The differences between the two characters highlight the divergence of their love and the
lack of certain personality traits of each character. This unveils one of many reasons why their
relationship would come to an end breaking both of their hearts. Vera doesn t talk much in the text,
instead we dive deep into her inner thoughts and that s where she expresses her true feelings of the
past relationship and unravels her teetering feelings for the man, each topic he brings up reminds her
of an unpleasant memory of him from the past but as he talks he turns those horrible memories into
good ones, convincing Vera to fall back in love with him. But she was thinking how well she
remembered that trick of his the trick of interrupting her and of how it used to exasperate her six years
ago (Mansfield, 16). The fact that Mansfield chose to have Vera think how it used to exasperate her
this shows that it no longer irritated her by the word choice of used to the man has convinced her that
it no longer is a point of irritation for her but something she now finds endearing.

Prostitution And The Act Of Prostitution
The world s oldest profession, also known as prostitution, is considered a grey area in morality
(Thiroux). Prostitution is defined as selling oneself or one s talents for base purpose (Agnes). Contrary
to popular belief, there are plenty of arguments for prostitution and the act of prostitution becoming
legal. Coinciding with popular belief, there are more arguments against the act of prostitution being
legalized. While some consider the act of prostitution to be an immoral act others will consider it a
victimless crime. Most people consider it to be immoral and use arguments such as it cause crimes,
spreads social diseases and AIDS and it is extramarital and commercialized. The opposing argument,
which is for the act of prostitution say that it, is a victimless crime, is a safe sexual release and is not
socially acceptable and it could be controlled by the government (Thiroux). The underlying question
now asks, is the act of prostitution moral?
If you were to mention prostitution to someone, they will typically react with disgust. Furthering the
conversation on the topic and mentioning legalizing prostitution will be followed with shock or
laughter. Prostitution is a major part of what we call the Sex Industry, which involves all personnel
that are involved in both legal and illegal varieties of sexual commerce. This includes everything from
X rated magazines, videos and DVDs, to computer pornography to strip clubs (Weitzer). While the
Sex Industry made a whooping $97

Israeli Militancy in the Pre Independence
The origins of the present day Israeli Defence forces and israeli politics run very far back in the
history of the jewish homeland, even predating the state of israel itself. In the beginning the defence
forces were very unorganized and had goals solely of protection. Through time the jewish militias
developed into different tranches with different purposes and goals. Many times these militias actually
found conflict with each other. There were many changes in the region from the late 19th century into
the mid 20th century. Two world wars, the largest genocide in human history the 1880 1948 held
massive significance to the jewish people and eventually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay On Affirmative Action
Affirmative Action was implemented as part of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 authorized under
President Lyndon B. Johnson s executive order 11246, and the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th
Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The quota based system was enacted to close the gap between
white male privilege and all ethnic minority groups to include women, homosexuals, the disabled as
well as the elderly in attempt to rid professional institutions like businesses and universities of
prejudice discrimination. In its 50 year history, much debate remains on whether the success of the
program has actually aided in breaking down barriers or simply created a reverse discrimination
paradox that disparages white males. As a result of this controversial ... Show more content on

Roosevelt issued Executive Order 8802, obligating defense contractors not to discriminate against any
worker because of race, creed, color, or national origin but the term Affirmative action was not used
until the Kennedy administration in the year 1961, only a few short years before the implementation of
Johnson s EO 11246. Along the way Affirmative Action was the center of much national attention as it
was often seen as harboring and fueling white resentment from ethnic minorities causing reverse
discrimination. In the year 1978, the resentment of whites caught wave in a Supreme Court case
Regents of the University of California v. Bakke. The case stated that Affirmative Action created a
reverse discrimination thus disparaging white youth from the same level of opportunity in the college
application process. As a result, the Supreme Court upheld affirmative action, allowing race to be one
of several factors in college admission policy. Although according to Parrillo, since a more
conservative court has taken less of a leading role in legislating away discrimination, Affirmative
Action has endured a multitude of lawsuits to

Double Standard Of Masculinity In Gender Role...
Masculinity is a topic that has been debated in our society extensively, through research as well as in
informal settings. Many wonder what it means to be masculine, and if we can really assign a definition
to such a subjective term. After all, shouldn t one s own perception be the determinant of what
constitutes masculinity? This self construction would be the ideal in our society, but unfortunately, it
represents a false belief. Masculinity has certain characteristics assigned to it by our culture.
In this paper I will explore the many facets of masculinity and demonstrate how certain beliefs
pertaining to it are perpetuated in our society. I will also uncover many of the contradictions between
society s assigned definition of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The violence boy s witness on television further legitimates this belief.
Katz explains that advertising imagery equates masculinity with violence. For boys this means
aggression is instrumental in that it enables them to establish their masculinity (Katz 1995). Lee
Bowker researched the influence advertisements have on youth. He asserts that toy advertisements
featuring only boys depict aggressive behavior. Strangely, the aggressive behavior generally results in
positive consequences more often than negative. Bowker also looked at commercials with boys that
contain references to domination.
The results of all the commercials indicate that 68.6% of the commercials positioned toward boys
contain incidents of verbal and physical aggression. There was no cross amp;#64979;gender display of
aggressive behavior. Interestingly, not one single sex commercial featuring girls shows any act of
aggression (Bowker 1998). This research helps explain that it is not just the reinforcement of close
caretakers to the child that legitimate masculinity but society as a whole (using the television as a
symbol of society and it s desires).Another example of how this can be reinforced even by women
who may or may not be trying to promulgate such a belief is with an experience I had growing
up:When I would get a cut or a bruise, I would muster up all the strength I had to not cry. I feared that

Mother To Son By Langston Hughes Analysis
Mother To Son by Langston Hughes
The poem I chose is called Mother to Son by Langston Hughes which describes her life as no crystal
stair . The poem begins with the mother telling her son about her life and how it was no crystal stair (
1). She then goes on to tell him how her stairs were broken, bare, and torn up, but they still take her
somewhere and that they were still climbing. The mother tells the son So boy, don t you turn back.
Don t you set down on the steps. Cause you finds its kinder hard. Don t you fall now For I se still goin
, honey, I se still climbin (14 19). While reading this poem I noticed how the speaker, the mother, had
a determined attitude about not stopping and climbing. Since she is talking to her son, she wants him
to succeed and although he may not have come from wealth and prosperity, that does not mean that he
has to fail. In the poem, it seems like the speaker is wise and knows that even if someone has
disadvantages and struggles, it does not mean that they can t have a future. The tone changes when the
mother tells her son how she has not had a good life or no crystal stair to that even though she doesn t
have good stairs, doesn t mean she can t move forward and climb. ... Show more content on

Stairs seem to be a symbol that represents life. The mother told her son that she had bare, broken stairs
which could mean that she had a rough life which would have meant it was hard to get money, she
could ve had family issues or job problems. It seemed like the mother was saying even of you are
struggling, that doesn t mean it won t get better. In this poem, there are no rhymes or similes which
makes it almost a conversation like poem that is taking place in real life. There are symbols such as

I Am A Physician Assistant
Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. My eyes started to lose the strength to stay open and my vision began to blur.
The tight grip I had on the anesthesiologist s hand slowly withered away.
As an active thirteen year old who spent his afternoons and weekends playing basketball, I was taken
aback when I first heard of my atrial septal defect and inevitable open heart surgery. I could not
fathom being away from the court for so long. But what seemed like the end of my passion for
basketball ultimately lead to a new passion to become a physician assistant.
Throughout my experience as a surgical patient, I always noticed three things my medical team never
failed to perform: inform, educate, and care for me. Through my frequent visits to the hospital I began
to notice that these ideals were essential in every successful physician patient relationship. As I
progressed in my career as a student, I came to realize that the academic and extracurricular activities
I was involved in were helping me perform those very qualities. I vividly remember sitting next to my
doctor with my knees trembling as he tried to explain my condition. I realized that the ability to advise
a young, scared, or uninformed individual was an indispensable tool to any practitioner. Just as my
physician was able to fulfill his duty to inform me, I informed others through ROOP NYC. ROOP is a
youth mentorship program that set out to introduce high school students to the intense college
application process. As a

An Analysis Of PoBoy Blues By Langston Hughes
The poem Po Boy Blues was composed by Langston Hughes during 1926, his early writing era. His
poetry was inspired by his family s history, a history full of abandonment, betrayal, and violence. His
father abandoned him seeking to find a life less confrontational to a black man, leaving Langston
Hughes to face being raised by his grandmother in the very same hostile environment his father sought
to escape. His mother betrayed him as she never embraced him with a mother s love not only once
leaving him as a young child, but twice when he came to live with her after his grandmother died. His
grandmother immersed Langston in his family s dark history, sometimes laying the bullet ridden shawl
on him from where his grandfather died ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Whales only recently evolved into giants when changing ice, oceans concentrated prey: Analysis of fossil, modern whale s points to when and how whales started bulking up. ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, 24 May 2017. . Introduction: After analyzing the fossils or preserved remains of whales, scientist have determined that whales have only recently evolved to be the large animals that we know today. Though not sure, the scientist state that the evolutionary shift was due to the increase of ice sheets in the North. This increase in ice caused a shift in the concentration of food available in the ocean, increasing the benefits of having a bigger body. This is important to the scientific community because ... Before the ice sheets, food would have been evenly distributed; however, as the ice sheets formed, run off would ve increased the amount of food like krill and plankton in the water, this increase along with the filter feeding mechanism of the baleen whale would have given the advantage to larger whale, who would have been able to utilize the dense aggregations of prey in the water. Evaluation A. This study mainly focuses within Big Idea 1, the process of evolution drives the diversity and unity of life. Within the study, the scientists observed how organism are linked by a common ancestry (1.B) through cladograms and the width of the skull from fossil records. With these fossils, the scientists observed the shift of size in the whale s bodies and how organisms from a common ancestor change and differentiate in structure over time. This allowed for them to see what traits were gained and lost, causing not only speciation in the organisms but also overall phenotypic changes. Similarly, in this study, the scientists were able to unveil how life continues to evolve with a changing environment. Extinctions and speciation occur all the time due to the environment. Lakota Woman The relationship between religion and violence is extremely complicated and misunderstood, but by analyzing the books, Lakota Woman written by Mary Crow Dog and Holy Terrors written by Bruce Lincoln, the relationship becomes more defined within each texts particular religious world. Lakota Woman and Holy Terrors both offer detailed accounts that portray the many ways in which the authoritative roles of religion are used to legitimate violence. Lakota Woman follows the life of Mary Crow Dog, a woman who decides to reconnect with her Lakota heritage in hopes of gaining a stronger sense of identity and purpose. In many cases it is natural to interpret the events of September 11th as purely evil, however, Lincoln argues that the terrorist attacks were profoundly and intensely religious. For this reason, Lincoln attempts to clarify what religion does and how it can be used to legitimate violent acts such as the terrorist attacks of September 11th. To support his argument, Lincoln offers a definition of religion that is more precise than the definition previously discussed in this essay. Lincoln argues that within religion there is a religious maximalist approach and a religious minimalist approach. The maximalist approach is the, conviction that religion ought to permeate all aspects of social, indeed of human existence (Lincoln 5). Essentially maximalists believe that religion should be considered the most important thing above all else. In contrast, minimalists believe that religion should be restricted to an important set of (chiefly metaphysical) terms, protects its privileges against state intrusion but restricts its activity and influence to its specialized sphere (Lincoln 5). Lincoln then goes on to define religion as having four parts. The four parts being; discourse, which contains speech acts that create a social reality in which people live, as well as, textual examples of transcendence. Secondly, there is practice which consists of the rituals and ceremonies of religion. Thirdly there is, community which refers to the people practicing the religion and constructing a religious world around it. Lastly there is, institution which is the recognized regulation and representation of the religion, its practices and community. All of these factors make up Lincoln s more specific definition of ... For starters, I normally offer myself a full body reiki session at the end of the day and offer myself mini sessions throughout the day (or whenever I find myself uneasy and ungrounded). I also enjoy offering myself the energy before doing an oracle/tarot reading. I find the readings come out clearer and sometimes nearly laughable (at least it is how I feel). I placed this question upon the universe and began to send her distant reiki. I used what I learned in reiki II to clear the office space as well. I focused a lot on my intent to help her and to find gratitude for working with Girls Inc. of NYC. A few weeks later, she spoke to me about her issues with our CEO and how she realized we were not the same team anymore. • 13. The Yolk Sac And Its Effects On The Human Bodies 375 million years ago, a fish like creature crawled onto the land. This transition into an existence on dry terrain gave rise to amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and finally to humans. As early reptiles colonized in adverse new environments, they adapted features to help them survive during their struggles for food and territory. Our reptilian ancestors were changing their bodies and these new features are evident in our human bodies today. One of these features that link us to our reptilian ancestors is the yolk sac which is evident in the human embryo as well as the eggs of reptiles. As reptiles adapted to life on a dry earth, they needed to keep their eggs from drying out an so evolved a new type of egg which enclosed the embryos in an amnion filled sac and covered it with a hard shell. Reptiles and humans both carry the yolk gene but it is no longer functional in humans as we evolved and no longer needed yolk to feed our embryos. But those broken yolk genes are still in our genome and link us to these ancient egg laying animals. Skin is another important feature that connects us to reptiles. In order to withstand the dry air on land, reptiles developed layers of dead skin to insulate them and create a water tight barrier. Humans have inherited these same layers of dead skin to prevent our bodies from drying out. Our skin not only protects our bodies but it is responsible for other features which we share with our reptilian ancestors; important structures that originate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The U.S market for organic food at one time was growing at a pace of 20% per year, which is significantly greater as compared to the 3 4% of the food sector as a whole. This undeniable growing demand in organic foods caught the attention of Douglas Degn, an executive vice president of the wildly popular organization, Wal Mart. The one area in which they could highly benefit improving is their apparel, which is a higher margin section that is lagging behind in sales. By shifting into selling more upscale, trendy clothes and housewares, Wal Mart would enable itself to appeal to higher income consumers, possibly reaching out to that 15% of the population who do not shop at Wal Mart, or even enticing current consumers to purchase these high margin products. They could accomplish this by creating a fashion merchant position that would tour Wal Mart and competitors stores, and suggest ways to adapt merchandise, floor plans and apparel to different groups. American popular culture has never been more dominant internationally than in the middle of the 90s – nor more controversial. Serious money is involved as pop culture is America s second biggest export after aircraft (Rockwell 1994). There is a common perception that in the process of globalization American products dominate everywhere on the world s markets. The fact that you can quench your thirst with Coca Cola in about 185 countries is but one example of U.S. economic ambition (Stephens 1993, online). Likewise, European anti globalization activists have long criticized Hollywood and its big budget studios for monopolizing the world movie in dustry and, consequently, flooding other cultures with American iconolatry. The popu larity of a movie like Jurassic Park (1993), for instance, was identified as threatening to the national identity of other cultures. It has also been lamented that due to the widespread distribution of industrialized music and the loss of music that is charac teristic of a certain culture, civilizations are increasingly losing a sense of national identity and pride (cited in Lanza 2001, online). His socialist views come across in The Time Machine as it is his way to show the consequences of excessive capitalism, thus the theme of social class and order emerges. Wells uses evolution as a form to vindicate and reason the extreme schism of classes present in the book. The Time Traveller, which seems to be an extension of Wells persona, implies the exclusive tendency of richer people [...] and the widening gulf between them and the rude violence of the poor was a key factor in the splitting of the human species along class lines, a direct hit on capitalism (Wells 62). • 24. The Law Of The Corn Laws Another way in which a comparison of the two thinkers can be given with respect to the Corn Laws is through their positioning on the issue of Say s Law. To introduce this concept, Jean Baptiste Say developed the Law of Markets, which is commonly referred to as Say s Law, in his A Treatise on Political Economy. He maintains that in order to consume, one must provide supplies for another s demand in order to earn a unit of account to consume goods, meaning a consumer must also be a producer (Say, I.XV.133). Therefore, the economy is a constant cycle of production, proving that supply creates its own demand. Because of this implication, Say s Law can be viewed in relation to the Corn Laws as the law implies both that an economy will equilibrate without a need for government intervention and that free trade is non distortionary. Knowing this, it becomes evident that the law was supported by Ricardo, albeit implicitly, and explicitly rejected by Malthus. This section will therefore more indepthly move through the two thinker s opinions on the law to prove their stance on the greater issue of the Corn Laws. Malthus disagrees with Say s Law, as it oversimplifies the nuance of the economy through its failure to account for the insufficiency of demand coupled with overproduction. The main argument about the insufficiency of demand is brought about by the expenditure of the different social classes. The insufficiency of demand he notes makes up his glut theory. Eros is life instinct and Thanatos is death instinct, sexual energy, and motivation. The ego mediates the demands of the id without going against the restraints that the superego has on it. The ego follows the reality principle which is being able to postpone gratification in accordance with reality. It can also repress desires that cannot be met in an acceptable manner. • 26. The Resurrection Is The Redemption From Sin Through Christ... According to theologian Maja Weyermann, the resurrection is the redemption from sin through Christ and therefore the nullification of death. In his biblical epistles to the Corinthians and the Romans, the apostle Paul considers how the acts of Jesus Christ purge humanity of the previous exploits of Adam, bringing salvation and life to all where there was previously sin and death. The initial parallels that Paul draws between Adam and Jesus Christ became the building blocks by which church fathers developed their own soteriology and theories of recapitulation. The most famous of which is St. Irenaeus of Lyons, whose writings developed an early understanding of Christian theology in the late second century. Drawing on Paul s biblical writings, Irenaeus further developed his theory of atonement, or recapitulation, that focuses on the idea of a do over that undoes previously committed sin. Based on the theological assertions made by Paul and Irenaeus, recapitulation in the greater doctrine of salvation is achieved through Christ as the second Adam, the Virgin Mary as the second Eve, and the Church as the second Eden. The central claims concerning recapitulation are found in the Pauline epistles of First Corinthians and Romans in the New Testament. The first biblical discussion of Paul s doctrine of salvation is found in 1 Corinthians 15. Paul claims, For since death came through a human being, the resurrection of the dead came also through a human being. For just as in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Ocean Iron Fertilization By Oceanographer John Martin In recent years, ocean iron fertilization has become a topic of widespread debate in the scientific, political and legal communities. First conceptualized by oceanographer John Martin in the 1980s, ocean iron fertilization is a geoengineering technology that involves the intentional introduction of iron to the surface waters of high nutrient, low chlorophyll (HNLC) areas of the oceans in order to stimulate the growth of phytoplankton blooms. Phytoplankton blooms mature over a period of thirty to sixty days and like terrestrial plants, they too absorb carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. When the phytoplankton die, organic carbon material sinks to the ocean floor and atmospheric carbon dioxide is sequestered in the deep ocean for relatively long spans of time. By perpetuating the growth of carbon capturing phytoplankton blooms, ocean iron fertilization reduces atmospheric carbon dioxide, thereby mitigating the profound consequences of climate change. With the world s carbon dioxide levels on the rise and the effects of global warming becoming increasingly devastating, it is imperative now more than ever that every mitigation strategy be thoroughly explored. Although ocean iron fertilization may seem like a fairly simple method of sequestering carbon dioxide, there is in fact a plethora of issues linked to this mitigation strategy. The aim of this literature review is to examine and analyze some of the aspects that make ocean iron fertilization such a controversial method of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As previously noted, Friedman used logos, or claims of fact, to support and further his argument. He factually summarized the Trans Pacific Partnership, the North American security envelope, and events of 9/11. He detailed Trump s actions, which have been reported repeatedly by various news sources. For example, various media outlets reported that Trump made disparaging remarks about Judge Robart, calling him a so called judge and labeling his ruling ridiculous (Heisig, Trump s comments on judiciary ). Furthermore, his analogies and cause effect relationships evoked cognitive, rational responses. For example, when arguing that the results of Trump s wall to keep out Mexican immigrants would cause problems for U.S. companies doing business in and with Mexico, he compared it to tighter security at the U.S. Mexican border during 9/11, which caused U.S. companies like Ford to shut down assembly lines because their supply chain extends to Mexico. She even says, I guess I have forgiven us both, although sometimes in the night my dreams will take me back to the sadness, and I have to wake up and forgive us again (Kidd 301). Progress in the process of Lily forgiving herself and her mom is clearly shown. Overall, she has condoned the actions of her mother, but still has little flashbacks or moments of weakness where she has to forgive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through the successor ... Gandhi was pitted against a whole discourse which the successor and virtually the whole country considered as the only rational mode of ordering life, be it individual or collective (Chandra 44). In every argument at least two people are involved. However, in many significant controversies or, even more so, in contestations of well accepted norms, the real debate rages not simply between two rational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Gandhi never precisely defines modern civilization , such a thing may indeed be impossible as the discourse already, to some extent, defines us, he does offer an analogy to understand its nature. As this kind of civilization exists in idealized forms in its literature and theories and realized forms throughout Europe, America, and their colonies, he considers these its identity. From this, one can infer its nature as one learns of a tiger. While, in theory, a tiger could change its character, this question completely misses the point that the very nature of the tiger is at fault (Swaraj 27 28). The preaching of modern civilization, as rhetoric, plus the real patterns of this kind of living comprise the object of his criticism. This marks one of his first important differences from the discourse he opposes. Where Gandhi considers the tiger in terms of its nature and as a pattern of behavior, the technical rationality of the discourse he is arguing against considers a tiger as a particular collection of biological specificities that may sometimes act in predictable ways, but is entirely mutable. While this summary of Gandhi makes him sound more like Plato than is fair, his arguments tend to look for deeper meanings where possible and permanent truths as opposed to the myopia of the discourse he is criticizing. Similarly, Gandhi claims that only men with mature thoughts are capable of ruling themselves (Swaraj 16), whereas modern civilization boasts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Globalization Assignment Written Assignment Unit 7 POLS 1503 Globalization Introduction As our world becomes more connected, the free travel of people and goods continue to rise in dramatic fashion. There are many benefits such as increased trade, improved access to imported goods, increased tourism and exposure to new cultures. With these benefits comes a risk of bringing diseases across international borders. International travel and trade has brought new challenges to public health care, and the threat of deadly illnesses spreading rapidly. If the movement of people, food, and manufactured goods can have such a negative impact on public health, should steps be taken to reduce these flows? There are always risks with travel and imports. The benefits to the economy and increased access to goods are worth the risks. However, in cases of emergency, it is completely reasonable to limit trade and travel from affected areas. When cases of mad cow disease are detected, it is common to block imports from the affect nations (Levin Institute, 2017a). During the outbreak of ebola in Africa in 2014, the Obama administration opted for a temporary travel ban from west Africa (Roberts, 2014). During the threat of an epidemic spreading across borders, extreme measures have to be taken. What other options are there for lowering the spread of global diseases? International public health officials have made recommendations to help prevent the spread of disease. These actions include a plan to monitor for new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. A Dill Pickle Critical Analysis A Dill Pickle by Katherine Mansfield represents the women s pursuit of independence through loneliness. Mansfield captures real life stories, not ones fabricated to appeal to the masses. This story takes place in a café, a couple meets again after 6 years apart. Their meeting emphasizes the women (Vera s) cynical look on love and her sensitive personality. The man exudes arrogance and has a way with words. The differences between the two characters highlight the divergence of their love and the lack of certain personality traits of each character. This unveils one of many reasons why their relationship would come to an end breaking both of their hearts. Vera doesn t talk much in the text, instead we dive deep into her inner thoughts and that s where she expresses her true feelings of the past relationship and unravels her teetering feelings for the man, each topic he brings up reminds her of an unpleasant memory of him from the past but as he talks he turns those horrible memories into good ones, convincing Vera to fall back in love with him. But she was thinking how well she remembered that trick of his the trick of interrupting her and of how it used to exasperate her six years ago (Mansfield, 16). The fact that Mansfield chose to have Vera think how it used to exasperate her this shows that it no longer irritated her by the word choice of used to the man has convinced her that it no longer is a point of irritation for her but something she now finds endearing. ... • 41. Prostitution And The Act Of Prostitution The world s oldest profession, also known as prostitution, is considered a grey area in morality (Thiroux). Prostitution is defined as selling oneself or one s talents for base purpose (Agnes). Contrary to popular belief, there are plenty of arguments for prostitution and the act of prostitution becoming legal. Coinciding with popular belief, there are more arguments against the act of prostitution being legalized. While some consider the act of prostitution to be an immoral act others will consider it a victimless crime. Most people consider it to be immoral and use arguments such as it cause crimes, spreads social diseases and AIDS and it is extramarital and commercialized. The opposing argument, which is for the act of prostitution say that it, is a victimless crime, is a safe sexual release and is not socially acceptable and it could be controlled by the government (Thiroux). The underlying question now asks, is the act of prostitution moral? If you were to mention prostitution to someone, they will typically react with disgust. Furthering the conversation on the topic and mentioning legalizing prostitution will be followed with shock or laughter. Prostitution is a major part of what we call the Sex Industry, which involves all personnel that are involved in both legal and illegal varieties of sexual commerce. The quota based system was enacted to close the gap between white male privilege and all ethnic minority groups to include women, homosexuals, the disabled as well as the elderly in attempt to rid professional institutions like businesses and universities of prejudice discrimination. In the year 1978, the resentment of whites caught wave in a Supreme Court case Regents of the University of California v. Bakke. Many wonder what it means to be masculine, and if we can really assign a definition to such a subjective term. After all, shouldn t one s own perception be the determinant of what constitutes masculinity? This self construction would be the ideal in our society, but unfortunately, it represents a false belief. Masculinity has certain characteristics assigned to it by our culture. The violence boy s witness on television further legitimates this belief. Katz explains that advertising imagery equates masculinity with violence. For boys this means aggression is instrumental in that it enables them to establish their masculinity (Katz 1995). Lee Bowker researched the influence advertisements have on youth. He asserts that toy advertisements featuring only boys depict aggressive behavior. Strangely, the aggressive behavior generally results in positive consequences more often than negative. Bowker also looked at commercials with boys that contain references to domination. The results of all the commercials indicate that 68.6% of the commercials positioned toward boys contain incidents of verbal and physical aggression. There was no cross amp;#64979;gender display of aggressive behavior. Interestingly, not one single sex commercial featuring girls shows any act of aggression (Bowker 1998). This research helps explain that it is not just the reinforcement of close caretakers to the child that legitimate masculinity but society as a whole (using the television as a symbol of society and it s desires).Another example of how this can be reinforced even by women who may or may not be trying to promulgate such a belief is with an experience I had growing up:When I would get a cut or a bruise, I would muster up all the strength I had to not cry. The poem begins with the mother telling her son about her life and how it was no crystal stair ( 1). She then goes on to tell him how her stairs were broken, bare, and torn up, but they still take her somewhere and that they were still climbing. The mother tells the son So boy, don t you turn back. Don t you set down on the steps. Cause you finds its kinder hard. Don t you fall now For I se still goin , honey, I se still climbin (14 19). While reading this poem I noticed how the speaker, the mother, had a determined attitude about not stopping and climbing. Since she is talking to her son, she wants him to succeed and although he may not have come from wealth and prosperity, that does not mean that he has to fail. In the poem, it seems like the speaker is wise and knows that even if someone has disadvantages and struggles, it does not mean that they can t have a future. The tight grip I had on the anesthesiologist s hand slowly withered away. As an active thirteen year old who spent his afternoons and weekends playing basketball, I was taken aback when I first heard of my atrial septal defect and inevitable open heart surgery. I could not fathom being away from the court for so long. But what seemed like the end of my passion for basketball ultimately lead to a new passion to become a physician assistant. Throughout my experience as a surgical patient, I always noticed three things my medical team never failed to perform: inform, educate, and care for me. Through my frequent visits to the hospital I began to notice that these ideals were essential in every successful physician patient relationship. As I progressed in my career as a student, I came to realize that the academic and extracurricular activities I was involved in were helping me perform those very qualities. I vividly remember sitting next to my doctor with my knees trembling as he tried to explain my condition. I realized that the ability to advise a young, scared, or uninformed individual was an indispensable tool to any practitioner. His mother betrayed him as she never embraced him with a mother s love not only once leaving him as a young child, but twice when he came to live with her after his grandmother died.
