The Pathophysiology Of Celiac Disease
Celiac disease is a T cell mediated, autoimmune, genetic illness that targets the small intestine in
which the absorption of nutrients, particularly fats, is impaired. The disease has been described as
a permanent intolerance to ingested gluten that damages the small intestine, characteristically
inducing crypt hyperplasia and villous atrophy, and typically resolves with removal of gluten
from the diet. (AJN 34). Celiac disease appears to be more prevalent in women than in men.
Genetic and immune factors are known to play a role in its development. People that have a
family member with celiac disease and people that have autoimmune disorders are at higher risk to
develop celiac disease. This paper outlines the pathophysiology of celiac disease, discusses signs
and symptoms, the four disease types, describes testing, treatment, addresses the differences
between gluten free dietand a diet containing gluten, the use of dietary supplements, and vitaminD
status.
Most absorption of nutrients occurs in the small intestine. The mucosa of the small intestine is
arranged in microscopic folds, which in turn contain even smaller finger like projections called
villi. The cells of the villi are covered with microscopic hairs, microvilli, projecting from the cell
membrane. The folds, villi, and microvilli of the intestinal mucosa provide a huge surface area for
nutrient absorption. Cells of the intestines are specialized to absorb different nutrients. Readily
digested nutrients are

Sex And Gender And Deviant Behavior
There is significant value in continuing research sex and gender differences in psychology, as
substantial differences in particular psychological processes exist. Perhaps the most impactful area
that psychologists can continue to study sex and gender differences is in psychopathologies and
deviant behavior. This is for two reasons: because significant sexand genderdifferences exist in the
manifestation, diagnosis, and treatment of certain psychopathologies and deviant behavior; and
that this category has widespread and significant impacts on society. The study of
psychopathologies through a sex differential lens can vastly change the way in which they are
understood, diagnosed and treated. As gender and sex differences can be overstated, leading to
misconceptions, psychologists must find a balance between searching for differences and
recognizing that the wide overlap that exists between men and women, males and females.
Investing psychopathologies and deviant behavior without keeping this in mind does a disservice to
individuals and society alike.
Background
As asserted by Klinge (2011, p.18), the 1980 s saw a shift in medicine as the study of sex and
gender rose in prominence, and the male norm in medicine was largely abandoned. With that said
though, for the remainder of the 1980 s and into the mid 1990 s women were still excluded from
biomedical research in the United States (Klinge 2011, p.16). Leading the charge against the non
inclusive research methods was the

Food And Drug Administration Case Study
Introduction
Is it FDA approved? Today, we hear more of this question and would check for the FDA
approved stamp on the product before purchasing it. This behavior signifies the accountability of
the agency, on how it has impacted the choices made by the people. This may not always be the
case, however, for there are people who do not find the label necessary or would be applicable to
their lifestyle. Nevertheless, this agency has made its mark in history to watch over the products
being purchased by the consumers. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is an agency under the
Department of Health and Human Services. Its main responsibility is to protect the public health by
assuring safety, efficacy and security. FDA assures safety by allowing... Show more content on

With this act, there are written practices that can be submitted by the public and the final rules are
published in the Code of Federal Regulations (Milakovich and Gordon). Although with a deadline
to issue comments, the involvement of the public gives emphasis on the value of citizens input
and affirms that the public has a say on the rules and regulations that will be soon applicable, if
not, is necessary to benefit them. Moreover, one of the procedures required by the APA for the
agencies to comply to, is formal adjudication. If authority making must be delegated, then a trial
type hearing where cross examination and witnesses must construe, hence, the traditional formal
rulemaking comes into play. The concern regarding formal rulemaking retaliates to cause
abandonment of regulatory programs, for the factors of cost and delays come into place, that it
was almost denounced by federal agency proceedings (Gellhorn and Levin 326). There was an
existing struggle within using formal adjudication or formal rulemaking for the agency to use, to
make the process and procedure fair to both agency and accused. Hence, the creation of the informal
rulemaking that consists involvement of the public a hybrid rulemaking option, but was effectively
halted by the Supreme Court. The court has, however, formed a compromise to allow hybrid

A Summary Of Cora Unashamed
The short story Cora Unashamed by Langston Hughes is about an African American woman who
works for an established white family. Cora is their housekeeper and looks after their youngest
daughter Jessie. Cora lost her only child soon after it was born so the Studevant s daughter,
Jessie, became like a daughter to Cora. As Jessie grows, she falls and love and becomes
pregnant. Cora encourages her love and her pregnancy. However, Jessie mother refuses to allow
her daughter to have the child and Jessie has an abortion. Jessie eventually dies of grief. At her
funeral, Cora s increasing anger finally is voiced. She cries, They killed you, honey. They killed
you and your child. I told em you loved it, but they didn t care. They killed it before it was...
(Langston, 7). Cora is removed from the funeral by force and she gathers her belongings and
leaves the Studevants for good. This paper will discuss the possible consequences of Cora s
outburst and whether it was worth it to express herself so abruptly. Although Cora waiting until
most of the funeral was over, her uproar still took place while the Studevant s home held
mourning family and friends. Cora allowed her feeling, as just as they may be, to overwhelm her
and to cloud her mind. The very nature of her speech was spontaneous. We can see this because her
comments are directed toward Jessie, not her mother, and not those who attended the funeral. Cora
is overcome with greif and anger, which causes her to act out. They

The Scenes Of Your Cup Of Milk

Behind the Scenes of Your Cup of Milk
Magazines, newspapers, and health blog posts have been talking about the unhealthy consequences
of Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) for many years. The more people grew conscious of what they
were consuming, the more they researched about their food. The usage of Bovine Growth Hormone
among the dairy industries has caught the attention of many consumers. Countless studies that were
done regarding rBGH treated milk only validated the negative effects of rBGH. Cows should not be
treated with rBGH due to the detrimental effects the hormone has on cows health, the potential
harmful effects it can have on consumers due to rampant antibiotic use, and the breaching of
autonomy and rights abuses of the cows treated.
Bovine Somatotropin (BST) is commonly known as Bovine Growth Hormone (BGH).
Somatotropin is a natural hormone produced in the pituitary gland of animals. BST aids in
increasing the growth in young cattles and lactation in milk cows. rBGH is an artificial
somatotropin hormone that is created through recombinant biotechnology. When rBGH is
administered to milk cows, the milk production of the cows increase by 10 to 15 percent (USDA,
2009). Injecting the cows with rBGH forces the cows to lactate more which makes them more
vulnerable to mastitis (udder infection). Mastitis causes the cows to secrete pus from their udder,
hence, pus incorporated milk. Monsanto s data

My Accomplishment Analysis
When most people think of an accomplishment that brought them into adulthood, many would
think of their first job, going to college, or even simply receiving good grades in school. For me,
my accomplishment has been a work in progress for the last six years. Sports have always been a
big part of my life and how I live it. I started runningtrack in 6th grade and have had a strange
bond with the sport ever since. A normal person after running their heart out for 50 seconds
around the track would naturally want to rollover and puke, but it gives me a feeling inside that I
can not put into words. When I first started running track in 6th grade, my times for the 400 meter
dash were just over a minute long. Moving on to freshman year I decided... Show more content on

Things had changed from a year ago and personally I thought I could beat the record by putting
in the time even when track wasn t in season. Even though my mind thought I could beat the
record, it stayed to myself so no one knew about my ridiculous dream. As junior year started, I
could see myself getting stronger and faster. Then spring came and track started up again, and
that same number, 48.9 seconds, was posted in the locker room. By the last meet of the year, my
personal best was 50 seconds. This may sound impressive to someone who knows where I
started, but to me it was a disappointment because I had missed my goal for the year by a second.
Through this disappointment, I saw how much I had achieved in the last three years and got the
extraordinary chance to run in the Nebraska State Track meet on our team s 4x400 relay. The
accomplishments I have slowly achieved over the last three years have showed me that if you
work hard enough at a goal, you can achieve it with time. I have one last season of running track
and I will give my all to have my name posted on the board so for years to come other kids trying
to become something have a goal they can

Nora A Hero
A hero is defined as a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or
noble qualities. A Doll s House , authored by Henrik Ibsen, contains a protagonist that fits this
definition. The protagonist, Nora Helmer, represents courage as the character rightfully decides to
relieve herself from the traditional social commitments and obligations, thus becoming an
independent individual. In addition, Nora displays selflessness through removing herself from the
family as it is realized the young woman is an inadequate mother. Moreover, Ibsen sets Nora in a
worldof predetermined social constraints that lead the young woman to become deprived of
freedom and genuine happiness. Subjugation and oppression act as significant... Show more content

As Nora comes to realize that her marriage to Torvald has been loveless and the young woman
has only been fulfilling the traditional role of a dull housewife, Nora becomes overwhelmed as
the woman accepts the lack of knowledge in being a genuine wife and mother, The way I am
now, I m no wife for you (1774). Moreover, Nora decides to leave her children with Torvald as the
woman laments not knowing how to take care of the three children, I won t look in on the
children. I know they re in better hands than mine (1774). While the act of abandoning one s
own family may come across as selfish, this is quite the opposite in Nora Helmer s instance.
Norma accepts she is an inadequate mother and would be unable to care for the children without
any aid from others, The way I am now, I m no use to them (1774). This inadequacy is further
brought to light by Torvald as he exclaims that Nora is not to be trusted with the job of bringing up
the couple s children. Additionally, Nora proves the selflessness of her characteras the woman
explains she must seek an education before trying to educate her own children, I m not up to the
job. There s another job I have to do first. I have to try to educate myself (1772). In order to
become the adequate mother that her children need to be appropriately raised, Nora must seek
enlightenment without the influence of Torvald, You can t

Like Water For Chocolate Mother
How do the mother and child relations, in the books, Blood Wedding and Like Water For
Chocolate reveal the characteristics of the mothers? Mother and child relations are portrayed in
our factual life, which affect the child, and it s up bringing. Some relations are very solicitous and
create a greater bond between each other, while some do not. The authors Federico Garcia Lorca
and Laura Esquivel implement characters with relations of mother and child to show the
characteristics of the mothers through their relations with their children, and form the plot. These

In contrary, Laura Esquivel portrays Mama Elena as a widow, who does not allow Tita to marry
anyone, as long as Mama Elena lives; as per the De La Garza tradition. Mama Elena enforces her
do all the chores in the house and treats her like a housekeeper. For Mama Elena, tradition was
above her daughter, which obstructs Tita from being loved by her mother. Thus, this shows the
affection between mother and child in the two books was opposite, which hints the audience the
character of Mama Elena to be a selfish, stern and a ruthless mother, while the Bridegroom s
Mother to be an affectionate, tender woman. Both the authors, Federico Garcia Lorca and Laura
Esquivel show deep affection in between the mother child bond. In Like Water For Chocolate, Tita
nurses and feeds Rosaura s child, without being a mother, which builds a mother and child relation
between the two. Similarly, such affection is also portrayed when Leonardo s wife sings a lullaby
to her child, to put him to sleep. Thus, there is common affection in the books, to enable the reader
/audience understand the real connection between mother and child. Both the mothers are
possessive and care about their child to different extents. In Blood Wedding, the Mother lets her
Husband and Leonardo s son leave, which causes their death through Felix. Therefore, due to this
loss the Mother suffered, she is more affectionate towards Leonardo. She then requests the

Descriptive Essay On The Fire
Footsteps
Many years ago, on August 15th, 1733, a small, unnamed town was nearly submerged in
scorching hot flames. A man named Louis James Tacha was one of the civilians that was killed
by the fire. Louis tried to help other people who have been swept away by the fire near the
swinging bridge. The sleeve of his white, long shirt sparked with a flame which engulfed the rest
of his body within seconds. He frantically tried to escape the snare of the fire, but his attempts
failed. He decided to jump into a rocky, fast moving river as his last attempt to survive. Louis
James Tacha s body was never found. Some say his spirit still lurks around the swinging bridge to
make others disappear into the river to symbolize how quickly someone can be forgotten. The few
survivors of the fire gave the name, Burnside, to the town to remember the event that took place on
that cool summer night.
Today, August 12th, 1983, is a big day for thirteen year old, Marcie Goupil, as she goes to an all
girls summer camp in Burnside, Tennessee, for her first time. Marcie is aroused with excitement
as she places her last few shirts into her over filled duffle bag. As Marcie and her dad pull up to the
camp, she sees large, dull looking trees with pointy branches, and leaves that started to change
colors, just barely covering a sign that reads, Camp Rio. All around her, counselors and campers
radiate with joy. No one seems to be vexed that sky is dim from clouds hovering over the earth.

Essay On Nature Vs Nurture
Nature Versus Nurture Within a Violent Adult s Child Development A majority of adulthood can
account for how an adult was as a child. During these important developmental stages humans are
incredibly inclined to absorb their environment and the social norms of those surrounding them.
However, nature versus nurture is the theory I which debates whether humans are more impacted
by their genetics or how they were raised. I am exceptionally interested in the development of
children and how their environment and genetics impact them as adults. I chose this specific topic
because I am also interested in the past of violent adults and how they arrived at the place they

However, this is damaging to society because early signs of violent habits can be ignored or not
taken care as well. Unsurprisingly, most serial killers have experienced a childhood filled with
various amounts of violence or abuse. Violence and abuse can be detrimental to the development
of a child, especially during their sensitive stages. Sensitive stages are when a child is more apt
to learn something and strengthen their brain. The reason these stages are so detrimental are
because the social norms learned during this time become habitual. Abuse can have a large
spectrum. Abuse can be defined as neglect throughout childhood, whether that is emotional,
physically, or both. Abuse can also be violent acts toward the child or a spouse. Violence can
vary from sexual abuse to physical abuse or both. These factors are the foundations of a child who
may have violent tendencies when they grow into adulthood. Secondly, children with an
uninvolved family environment are especially inclined for a violent future. The reasoning behind
this statement expressed by the authors is because the children are often forced to undergo the
role of the caretaker when they are young. This causes a difficult childhood and can cause the
yearn for revenge. This yearn for revenge can often become violence. A portion of the sample

Reflective Essay On Interprofessional Education
In my NUR 301 Class, I had the opportunity to practice on Interprofessional Education. Our
nursing student team was partnered with first year pharmacy school students to learn about each
other professions and to study on how we could work in a team of healthcare professionals to
attain a common goal. As this was my first time experience to meet other students from a different
department of Notre Dame of Maryland University, I was not sure what to expect from our
discussions. Even if I have some experiences working both in hospitals and in a pharmacy, I was no
fully aware of the responsibilities of a pharmacist directly to the patient or to the healthcare field
specialists.
From this class I understood that Interprofessional Education (IPE) is when two or more
profession learn from, with and about each other. This collaboration is important in order to
fulfill the patients needs that are becoming more complex, multi faced and challenging day by
day. It is also clear to me that no single profession in healthcare can adequately address all the
demands of patients. Therefore, partnership between teams is required to provide a safe, timely,
effective and equitable patient care. To have a smooth collaboration, it is necessary to learn from
each other s specializations, strength and experiences. In the real world, healthcare is an
interdisciplinary team effort to provide the best possible service to a patient based on evidence
based practices. Considering this, I had the

Introduction 1.1 Research problem Harry Markowitz is one of the founders of the theory of
finance, the fastest growing economic sciences. This lays the foundation for the applied financial
management in a company, using the tools and methods of investigation with a help of which
any company can analyze its financial position, to assess the value of its capital and its structure,
to select the best investment project and to manage it or to decide how and how many shares or
bonds to issue. Markowitz s approach to the problem of portfolio selection suggests that the
investor tries to solve two problems: to maximize the expected return at a given level of risk or
minimize uncertainty (risk) at a given level of expected return. Therefore, the aim of this course

Analysis Of Suggestions For The Future Of Social Work
Introduction
Technological advancements can seem overwhelming today. Most everyone would agree that
technological progress can be a good thing, but only when it brings solutions to problems. For
instance, it makes us more productive, or it gives us more information more quickly than in the
past. Unfortunately, there can be unintended consequences of technology that are detrimental to us.
The thing that most concerns me is that we may be losing the concept of the importance of human
relationships. When we bury ourselves in technology and cannot live a day, hour or even a minute
without it, we can easily lose sight of interpersonal connections. Email and texting are convenient,
but we sacrifice other forms of communication like body language, a tone of voice and facial
expressions. An interpersonal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are privileged to be invited into someone s life. We should do everything necessary to protect
boundaries and protect the therapeutic relationship. Secondly, we must be diligent not to exploit the
vulnerable populations we serve. The enduring challenge in social work is to locate and walk what
can be a fine line between valuable innovation that has therapeutic benefits and harmful, possibly
exploitative treatment of vulnerable clients (Reamer, 2013; p. 171).
We are encouraged to be creative in finding new models and methods of meeting the needs of our
clients. We must also be critical thinkers in evaluating our efforts. Good communication is essential
for developing and maintaining positive relationships. We must be diligent to develop therapeutic
working relationships with our clients, and we should listen in order to identify how best to serve
them. Technology can make communication quick and easy, but we must exercise caution. We
must always remember the importance of relationships that human touch and interaction are

There are lots of amazing types of body art for ladies, but animal tats are being among the most
popular. A lot of women feel a particular link with one animal. Sometimes people call this pet their

Classroom Management Is An Important Aspect Of Teaching
Classroom management is an important aspect in teaching and one that students should take some
responsibility for. I have taken the approach of showing respect to the students through introducing
rights and responsibilities into the classroom whilst at all times demonstrating a pile of good will
towards each student. Regular classroom meetings will be used to maintain behaviour and
relationships between teacher and students, but also between students as well. These meetings will
address any issues that students are having and look at their rights and responsibilities and whether
they are working or need to be changed. Lewis states that the aim of a management approach should

It is best to introduce something which they will be greater inclined to follow. Responsibility
attached to rights gives the teacher the opportunity to encourage students to understand the main
reason that they will stop or try to alter certain behaviours is because it interferes with the rights of
the other students in the classroom. The two major rights which should be protected by the teacher
are that students have the right to learn as much as possible and the second is that all students
have the right to feel physically and emotionally safe within the classroom. Students should be
involved in this discussion and identify what behaviours are appropriate or inappropriate if the
rights of their classmates are to be respected. If students are involved in making these decisions,
they are more likely to abide by them.
There are two types of responsibility which are attached to rights. The first being personal
responsibility which looks at the behaviours students should or shouldn t do if they are to behave
responsibly(DO YOU MENTION HOW YOU WILL DO THIS). The second is communal
responsibility where students encourage their classmates to do the right thing and discourage them
to do the wrong thing. (off lms The Developmental Management Approach to classroom behaviour).

management. Two in particular were Johnson and Whittington (1994) who performed a large study

Pine Island Glacier is the Largest Sheet of Ice on Earch
Pine island Glacier is an enormous stream of ice flowing west northwest along the south of
Hudson mountains into the Amundsen Sea in Antarctica. This ice sheet is the largest chunk of
ice on planet Earth having a volume of a water equivalent to 57m of the global sea level. Hence,
this basin has the largest net contribution of ice to the sea in the world. In the past few decades,
the pine island glacier has been melting at an irreversible rate. Studies show that the ground line
of the glacier has retreated 10 kilometres and is in the process of touching a 40 kilometre retreat.
The glacier has been losing approximately 20 billion tons of ice each year for the past quarter of
the century and is estimated to lose four times the ice in the coming quarter.
As said by a glaciologist with France s Grenoble Alps University, Gael Durand, the glacier has
started a phase of self sustained retreat and will continue its decline. The loss of ice from the

It has played a significant role in the rise of the global sea level. It is predicted that at this rate, the

No Reason to Ban Lady Chatterley s Lover by DH Lawrence Essay
Lady Chatterley s Lover, written by DH. Lawrence was first published in 1928. The novel
follows around the protagonist of the story, Lady Constance Chatterley. The story is about how
this woman, who is trapped in a loveless and almost sterile marriage, finds emotional and physical
love with the gameskeeper of her husband s estate. As a story about the relationships between
men and women, I find this book a very nice read, but with Lawrence also using this novel as a way
to show his readersthe evilsof machines and capitalism, at times I find it lacking. Lawrence has two
main themes in this book; first, the relationship between men, women and how they find love;
second, industry vs. nature.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of complete love is shown through Lady Connie and Mellors relationship. Lawrence
shows through these two how love needs to have emotional and physical aspects to be possible.
Writing about their evolving relationship and showing how both aspects are started and evolve,
he gives us the idea of what he thinks real love is. Lawrence shows how their true love and
eventual marriage escapes class lines and the industrial world the author despises. In one of the
more descriptive sex scenes, Lawrence wants to show that two people who are in real love have
no shame. This theme is also used to try and validate Lawrence s second theme in the book,
industry vs. nature. Lady Chatterley s marriage with Clifford is based in the industrial setting of
Wragby mansion. The marriage between these two characters revolves around this setting and is
therefore shown by Lawrence to be a fake marriage since it is not set in a true natural setting. It is
based in an industrial society and therefore corrupt. On the other side, Lady Connie s relationship
with the gameskeeper, Mellors, is started in the natural setting of the woods surrounding Wragby.
As the story ends there is a hope that these two will be married and it will be a true marriage
because it has both the emotional and physical aspects

The Dokdo Dispute Between South Korea and Japan
Dokdo Dispute An enduring dispute over Dokdo Island has proven difficult to resolve. Japan and
Korea have been having an argument over the island for sovereignty ever since 1910 (South). This
island has three names, Dokdo, Takeshima, and Liancourt. Dokdo, a solitary island, is a Korean
name for this island. Takeshima, a Bamboo Island, is what Japanese call it. Both Japan and South
Koreauses historical facts to support their claims for the island (Profile). To what extent is the
dispute between Korea and Japan an issue about resources versus history? South Korea claims that
Liancourt Island was originally their territory ever since Kim Isabu conquered the island
(мљ°м‚°кµ). After the liberation from Japan, South Korean government argues they got the
island back from Japan and got an official approve by Japan in 1696. In 1900, Uldo County
possessed the island, but Japan took over the island when they colonized South Korea. However
after World War 1, Japan returned Dokdo to Korea. On a government website (The Foreign Office
of Dokdo) says, that Dokdo belongs to Korea in terms of history and geography (Profile). Korea
supports their argument with historical contents.
Due to the various evidences from different antique map, Dokdo belongs to Korean territory before
the modern days. Japan, who launched 1904 Russo Japanese Wars, used н•њмќјмќ м •м„њ, a
treatment between Korea and Japan about allowing Japan to create a facilities of army on our

Describe the importance of Calpurnia in the lives of the Finch family, and in the novel as a whole.
Calpurnia is more than just a family cook to the Finch s. She also acts as the mother to Jem and
Scout by helping to bring them up, teaching them right from wrong, disciplining them and
comforting them when they were upset because their mother died when they were very young.
She has worked for the Finch s for a very long time and has a very firm control over the children
which causes Scout to resent her.
Atticus trusts and supports Calpurnia because he considers her as a very important member of the
family. For example he says Alexandra,

Calpurnia is intelligent and is one of the few Negroes in Maycomb who can read and write. She
even taught Scout how to write by setting her tasks like copying a passage from the bible to keep
her quite when she was board, so she is important in teaching the children. She lives two lives, one
working for the Finch family who are white, and another at her home with her fellow Negroes. She
acts and speaks differently around her friends and the children find this very surprising when they
find out.
Some of the main themes in To Kill a Mockingbird are Courage, Family,
Prejudice and Hatred and I think Calpurnia is important in all of these themes.
Calpurnia gives the children courage by telling them not to worry and that every thing will be
alright for instance during the time of the court case and the leading up to it she told them to
stay strong and not to listen to what people are saying about Atticus or the way he s bringing Jen
and Scout up. Also when she took the children to church she had the courage to stand up to her
fellow Negro (Lula) who didn t want the white children in the Black church and said to her they s
my comp ny and It s the same God, ain t it? . This made Lula annoyed so she went away and didn
t say another word.
She is very important in the family theme because she is part of the
Finch family and she is also part of the Negro family so in the novel she shows how you can be
part of two different kinds of families

African American Stereotypes Essay
Stereotypes, or preconceived ideas about persons or groups, are a major problem throughout
this country. I did not realize how much until I attended college at Minnesota State University at
Mankato, where I was one of 5 students from the Southern United States. I was asked if people
ever thought I wasn t as smart because of my accent, if I had to walk to school, if we had
outhouses, if we had electricity, and the list goes on. I had been in the military and traveled
across the country and had never been asked questions like that before. It must have been because
they had never really been exposed to someone from the South other than television or movies as I
could come to no other conclusion. The problem is much worse for minorities because larger
numbers of people have and act on these preconceived ideas without realizing that everyone is an
individual regardless of the color of their skin or ethnicity. Because of the Slavery Era and years of
mistreatment, African Americans most likely suffer the most from stereotypesthat have been passed
down for over 150 years. The most ridiculous one I ever heard growing up was that African
Americans had tails. Older people would tell white children this crazy tale to keep us from going
around people of color. This belief is still around today, but is seldom heard. Many others
stereotypes really hurt African Americans in their quest to be treated equal such as them being lazy,
uneducated, violent, gangbangers, and

the people who bully them and helping each other with their weaknesses. They have have had
many ups and downs, but whatever happens by the end of the day their strong bond brings them

problems with his father. Max has never really known his father. When news about his father s past

the Declaration of Independence. The United States Armed forces currently has five branches of
service; Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard. This essay seeks to take a closer look at
the United States Army and the United StatesNavy, which are the two largest branches. A
comparison of their history, mission and the transition of its members back to civilian life will
shed some light on how similar but different these two branches are. Although the overall goal of

Today s Navy, according to the Navy s official website, navy.mil, consist of over 300,000 active

to the Navy s New Recruit Handbook, The mission of the United States Navy is to protect and
defend the right of the United States and our allies to move freely on the oceans and to protect
our country against her enemies (29November2008). The U.S. Navy training manual states that
the U.S. Armed Forces mission is to prepare and conduct prompt and sustained combat
operations in support of national interest. As a part of that establishment, the U.S. Navy s

make up about 80 percent of the active duty personnel. Enlisted sailors complete basic training
and then move on to apprenticeship schools to complete training in their individual job. Sailors
then do their job on a day to day basis and have to prove their skill level and level of
responsibility through a series of Personal Qualification Standards (PQS) and examinations.
Because of this setup, a sailor is recognized not only by his rank, but more so his job title. The
primary mission of every individual sailor is to complete your job efficiently in order for the
overall mission to be successful. On the other hand, the U.S. Army s primary mission, according to

A Research Study On Mutual Fund Essay
1.0 CHAPTER ONE
1.1 Introduction
A mutual fund and also known as unit trust can be defined as a form of collective investments that
allows the investors which have similar investment objectives to pool their funds to be invested in a
portfolio of securities or other assets. The fund managers will invest the pooled funds in the
portfolio fund, particularly include some assets like cash, bonds, deposits, stocks, commodities and
also properties parallel to the fund s objectives. Each investor owns shares, which represent a
portion of the holdings of the fund.
The mutual fund industry in Malaysia started as far back as 1959 with the advent of the Malayan
Unit Trust Limited, which was launched by a group of Australian investors. The development of the
industry did not take off until the 1980s after the launch of Amanah Saham Nasional (Barom,
2004). The Amanah Saham Nasional was initiated by the Malaysian Government to promote equity
ownership by the indigenous population. Aided by high and consistent economic growth since the
1990s, the mutual fund industry had grown exponentially until 1997, in which the East Asian
financial crisis (EAF) of 1997 brought a sudden halt to such a rapid development. After the EAF,
the Malaysian mutual fund trust industry has experienced a solid recovery. This can be reflected
in the number of management companies that steadily increased from 13 in the mid 1990s to 37 in
the early 2000s (Saad et al., 2010).
In line with the rapid growth of the

Adolescent are constantly changing and constantly adapting to the environment, especially when

Impacts Of Anthropogenic Activities And Land Use Changes...
Impacts on the forests are increasing as a result of the fantastic growth of human populations and
the global spread of pollutants leading to loss of biodiversity which is one of the most severe
threats to sustainability.
Land use changes have transformed land cover to farmlands, grazing lands, human settlements and
urban centers at the expense of natural vegetation particularly in West Africa. These changes are
associated with deforestation, biodiversity loss and land degradation. The relationships between land
use and biodiversity are fundamental to understanding the links between people and their
environment
The aim of this work is to provide a holistic view of the impacts of anthropogenic activities and
land use changes on biodiversity conservation by synthesizing works and facts across a range of
different related research works.

Analysis Of Judas The Iscariot
This paper is an investigation of the Judas the Iscariot. He left behind his entire life to live
nomadically with Jesus and the other eleven disciples. Judas is known to be the betrayer. He
crafted a plan for Judas to be arrested in exchange for 30 pieces of silver. The Gospel authors and
most people see Judas as the bad guys. But have we misinterpreted Judas? This paper will be a

I will specifically look at a common argument against Judas, Judas friendship with Jesus, what the
Gospel authors explicitly declared to be Judas motives to be, and how patriotism could ve

The Darst Creek Field is an old accumulation and is reaching the end of its primary production

lithology (limestone s and chalks.) This structural composition offers potential to be enhanced via a
chemical or water flooddue to its relatively high permeability and other reservoir characterization.
Contained within is the research and findings after building and executing a simulation of the
potential for a flood in this area.
1 Introduction
Water and polymer flooding have seen a surge in older fields as a method of extracting bypassed
hydrocarbons in the secondary production phase of the reservoir. Typically, the floods have seen
the largest increase of EUR in reservoirs that have highly mobile fluids and with a high
permeability formation. This allows the fluids to rapidly move through the formation and push the
desired hydrocarbons towards our production wells. These reservoirs are typically in the form of
deeper sandstone reservoirs, but studies are being conducted in an attempt to implement the floods
in other reservoir types. Through this paper we will evaluate the needs of an EOR process in
carbonate formations to evaluate their potential implementation in the Darst Creek Oil Field in
Luling, Texas. The evaluation will evaluate studies of flood effectiveness in other carbonate
reservoirs to evaluate both the operational and theoretical constraints of this specific

Exxon Mobil Merger Essay
Mergers and Acquisition: Exxon Mobil Merger
Introduction
Industry mergers or business combinations are a phenomenon that has been commonplace for quite
some time now. They basically involve two or more organizations coming together to form a large
corporate under which they operate. The new organization which may have a combination of the
names of the merging components or a totally new name operates as a new entity. The new rule
under which the new entity operates depends in the agreement on the terms of the merger. As
stated in our advanced accounting text, the history of mergers can be traced back to the 1895 to

They turn all the energies that went into competition before to promote their joint product together.
In my view, this kind of combination is easier than others since the two merging groups already
understand their market and understand each other s product perfectly.
In December 1, 1988, the Exxon and Mobil oil companies announced their intent to carry out a
horizontal combination valued at approximately $80 billion. (CNN Money, 1998). The aim of
this combination was to Create an oil entity rivaling the biggest in the world . The two chief
executives Exxon s Lee Raymond and Mobil s Lucio Noto announced then that the main motive
of their merger was to compete more effectively in the face of sharp drops in oil prices. One
objective the bigger company was set to achieve would be to cut costs of operation so as to
maximize profit. Industry analysts also said that it was a good prospect for the two firms to
merge since many organizations at the time were slashing the pay of employees and making
capital spending plans to cut costs. Under the terms of the agreement the new company would

Essay on Western Music vs. Indigenous Music
Introduction:
Defining reconciliation alone can be a cumbersome task. It has been defined as many things
such as a collection of lived practices a culture, a cultural project, a sea change in the psyche of a
nation and a product of the imagination of the lunar left (Rigney Hemming, 2011). The main idea
one should keep in mind when reading this paper, is the discrepancies between Indigenous and
Western worlds and the way in which they conceptualise music. When understanding music as a
tool for reconciliation, it can be defined under any of the headings stated above. The way in which
traditional and popular music is discussed in this paper can be identified as a collection of lived
practices a culture (Rigney Hemming, 2011) . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When thinking about the music industry from this point of view, the lack of credit and exposure
given to traditional music is appalling. Traditional communities assign an array of powers to their
music such as: the power to heal sickness, create bountiful game, cause lightning to strike [and] kill
(Mills, 1996).
As Allan Marett (2005) states in his text Songs, Dreamings and Ghosts: there is a great deal of
ambivalence within Australian society about the contribution that Aboriginal knowledge and modes
of expression can and should make to the national consciousness, ranging from those who embrace
Aboriginal ways of being in the world as the key to understanding how to be in Australia, to those
who reject them totally as primitive, inimical to development, or simply irrelevant to civilised
values. This description is a seemingly accurate account from both sides of non Indigenous
Australian s perceptions of Indigenous Australians. John Howard s eleven year reign as Prime
Minister, and his political campaign of Practical Reconciliation , sheds some understanding on the
assimilationist and westernised mindset that some Australian citizens possess (Gunstone, 2010).
However, as Australia becomes more multicultural unless the nation is content with going into a
state of ruin acceptance of diverse cultures must be recognised and

Analysis Of Mirrors By Eduardo Galeano
Mirrors by Eduardo Galeano Throughout this book, Galeano had stories that showed our history
and the brutality in life The stories in the book displayed themes including fear, racism,
depression, slavery and violence. For example, I happen to know from my previous classes
regarding the history of African Americans including from an author by the name of Toni Morrison
who suggests humanity started with Africans. There was similar information from one story called
A Feast On Foot and within the story was the line The human adventure in the world began in
Africa (Galeano 1) however there was the first line that stated Adam and Eve were black? which
could suggest racism. Other examples Galeano relates to include how violent we humans have been
which is presented into stories such as The Torturer s Confession and We Were All Executioner s.
One line that got my attention that tied both of them together was understanding that the most
enthusiastic punishers were also the most enthusiastic sinners (101). It is my understanding
knowing that punishers and sinners both caused torture and mistreatment toward humanity no
matter what race, gender or color they might be. Violence was portrayed in both a racist and

To Kill A Mockingbird Dialectical Journal
How To Kill a Mockingbird Journal How characters affect other characters By Sadie Giddings A
bunch of characters in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird affect other characters. Each character is
affected differently. Scout affects a bunch of characters. On page 46, Scout brings out the good
in Dill. What I mean by this is that Scout and Dill are really close friends and Dill says he is
going to marry Scout. This also affects Scout. Dill says he is going to marry Scout makes her
feels joyful. On that page it says He had asked me earlier in the summer to marry him, then he
promptly forgot about it. He staked me out, marked as his property, said I was the only girl he
would ever love, then he neglected me. Dill started to neglect Scout by hanging out with Jem more

That someone else was Miss Maudie. Scout started hanging out with Miss Maudie when she
started to be neglected by Dill and Jem. Because Scout was hanging out with Miss Maudie it
made Miss Maudie feels appreciated. Miss Maudie felt appreciated because she had someone
that wanted to talk to her and spend time with her. On pages 46 47, it says Our tacit treaty with
Miss Maudie was that we could play on her lawn, eat her scuppernongs if we didn t jump on the
arbor, and explore her vast back lot, terms so generous we seldom spoke to her, so careful were we
to preserve the delicate balance of our relationship, but Jem and Dill drove me closer to her with
their behavior. Scout also affects Uncle Jack by showing him that there is more than just one side
of a story. On page 97 it says I m disappointed in you―you had that coming and you know it.
Didn t either. Honey, you can t go around calling people― You ain t fair, I said, you ain t fair.

Parent-Child Relationships In The Movie, The Help
This essay will focus on the movie The Help . This movie takes place in a time when racism and
segregation was very prominent. During this time it was more common for the maid to take care
of the child, rather than their own mother. This is one of the reasons Skeeter and her mother aren t
very close and why they don t agree on things such as racismand how they treat people of different
color. A theme we will be focusing on in this essay is Parent Child Relationships. Two characters in
this movie that depict this sort of relationship are Skeeter and her mother. The Parent Child
Relationship between Skeeter and her mother in this movie is very protrusive. This relationship can
be described as somewhat bitter sweet. During this movie it is very... Show more content on

However, Skeeter was an educated woman and she was independent unlike the other women
who just sat at home being a housewife. She wanted to write because it is what she wanted to
do, not because it was what she was supposed to do, but her mother did not see it this way. She
just saw it as a hobby and nothing more. Even though they disagree on many things, they still
love each other. While Skeeter s mother generally doesn t get involved in Skeeter s business, she
joins in when it is needed and helps Skeeter when it matters. One example of this is when Mrs.
Hillie was trying to end Skeeter s writing career around the end of the movie. Mrs. Hillie came to
the Skeeter s house and tried to threaten her by ending her writing career, but Mrs. Phelan ran
Mrs. Hillie off and told her to never come back. Even though at the beginning Skeeter s mother
disagreed with Skeeter s writing, After reading the book Skeeter wrote, she finally accepted that
writing is what Skeeter was good at and what she wanted to do. So in conclusion, while Skeeter
and her mother don t always get along, they help each other when it matters. They love each other
very much despite their

  • 2. The Pathophysiology Of Celiac Disease Celiac disease is a T cell mediated, autoimmune, genetic illness that targets the small intestine in which the absorption of nutrients, particularly fats, is impaired. The disease has been described as a permanent intolerance to ingested gluten that damages the small intestine, characteristically inducing crypt hyperplasia and villous atrophy, and typically resolves with removal of gluten from the diet. (AJN 34). Celiac disease appears to be more prevalent in women than in men. Genetic and immune factors are known to play a role in its development. People that have a family member with celiac disease and people that have autoimmune disorders are at higher risk to develop celiac disease. This paper outlines the pathophysiology of celiac disease, discusses signs and symptoms, the four disease types, describes testing, treatment, addresses the differences between gluten free dietand a diet containing gluten, the use of dietary supplements, and vitaminD status. Most absorption of nutrients occurs in the small intestine. The mucosa of the small intestine is arranged in microscopic folds, which in turn contain even smaller finger like projections called villi. The cells of the villi are covered with microscopic hairs, microvilli, projecting from the cell membrane. The folds, villi, and microvilli of the intestinal mucosa provide a huge surface area for nutrient absorption. Cells of the intestines are specialized to absorb different nutrients. Readily digested nutrients are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Sex And Gender And Deviant Behavior There is significant value in continuing research sex and gender differences in psychology, as substantial differences in particular psychological processes exist. Perhaps the most impactful area that psychologists can continue to study sex and gender differences is in psychopathologies and deviant behavior. This is for two reasons: because significant sexand genderdifferences exist in the manifestation, diagnosis, and treatment of certain psychopathologies and deviant behavior; and that this category has widespread and significant impacts on society. The study of psychopathologies through a sex differential lens can vastly change the way in which they are understood, diagnosed and treated. As gender and sex differences can be overstated, leading to misconceptions, psychologists must find a balance between searching for differences and recognizing that the wide overlap that exists between men and women, males and females. Investing psychopathologies and deviant behavior without keeping this in mind does a disservice to individuals and society alike. Background As asserted by Klinge (2011, p.18), the 1980 s saw a shift in medicine as the study of sex and gender rose in prominence, and the male norm in medicine was largely abandoned. With that said though, for the remainder of the 1980 s and into the mid 1990 s women were still excluded from biomedical research in the United States (Klinge 2011, p.16). Leading the charge against the non inclusive research methods was the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Food And Drug Administration Case Study Introduction Is it FDA approved? Today, we hear more of this question and would check for the FDA approved stamp on the product before purchasing it. This behavior signifies the accountability of the agency, on how it has impacted the choices made by the people. This may not always be the case, however, for there are people who do not find the label necessary or would be applicable to their lifestyle. Nevertheless, this agency has made its mark in history to watch over the products being purchased by the consumers. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is an agency under the Department of Health and Human Services. Its main responsibility is to protect the public health by assuring safety, efficacy and security. FDA assures safety by allowing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this act, there are written practices that can be submitted by the public and the final rules are published in the Code of Federal Regulations (Milakovich and Gordon). Although with a deadline to issue comments, the involvement of the public gives emphasis on the value of citizens input and affirms that the public has a say on the rules and regulations that will be soon applicable, if not, is necessary to benefit them. Moreover, one of the procedures required by the APA for the agencies to comply to, is formal adjudication. If authority making must be delegated, then a trial type hearing where cross examination and witnesses must construe, hence, the traditional formal rulemaking comes into play. The concern regarding formal rulemaking retaliates to cause abandonment of regulatory programs, for the factors of cost and delays come into place, that it was almost denounced by federal agency proceedings (Gellhorn and Levin 326). There was an existing struggle within using formal adjudication or formal rulemaking for the agency to use, to make the process and procedure fair to both agency and accused. Hence, the creation of the informal rulemaking that consists involvement of the public a hybrid rulemaking option, but was effectively halted by the Supreme Court. • 5. A Summary Of Cora Unashamed The short story Cora Unashamed by Langston Hughes is about an African American woman who works for an established white family. Cora is their housekeeper and looks after their youngest daughter Jessie. Cora lost her only child soon after it was born so the Studevant s daughter, Jessie, became like a daughter to Cora. As Jessie grows, she falls and love and becomes pregnant. Cora encourages her love and her pregnancy. However, Jessie mother refuses to allow her daughter to have the child and Jessie has an abortion. Jessie eventually dies of grief. At her funeral, Cora s increasing anger finally is voiced. She cries, They killed you, honey. They killed you and your child. I told em you loved it, but they didn t care. They killed it before it was... (Langston, 7). Cora is removed from the funeral by force and she gathers her belongings and leaves the Studevants for good. This paper will discuss the possible consequences of Cora s outburst and whether it was worth it to express herself so abruptly. Although Cora waiting until most of the funeral was over, her uproar still took place while the Studevant s home held mourning family and friends. Cora allowed her feeling, as just as they may be, to overwhelm her and to cloud her mind. The very nature of her speech was spontaneous. We can see this because her comments are directed toward Jessie, not her mother, and not those who attended the funeral. Cora is overcome with greif and anger, which causes her to act out. They ... • 6. The Scenes Of Your Cup Of Milk Christine Lee Professor Lynn Dowdy Biology 100 16 October 2015 Behind the Scenes of Your Cup of Milk Magazines, newspapers, and health blog posts have been talking about the unhealthy consequences of Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) for many years. The more people grew conscious of what they were consuming, the more they researched about their food. The usage of Bovine Growth Hormone among the dairy industries has caught the attention of many consumers. Countless studies that were done regarding rBGH treated milk only validated the negative effects of rBGH. Cows should not be treated with rBGH due to the detrimental effects the hormone has on cows health, the potential harmful effects it can have on consumers due to rampant antibiotic use, and the breaching of autonomy and rights abuses of the cows treated. Bovine Somatotropin (BST) is commonly known as Bovine Growth Hormone (BGH). Somatotropin is a natural hormone produced in the pituitary gland of animals. BST aids in increasing the growth in young cattles and lactation in milk cows. rBGH is an artificial somatotropin hormone that is created through recombinant biotechnology. When rBGH is administered to milk cows, the milk production of the cows increase by 10 to 15 percent (USDA, 2009). Injecting the cows with rBGH forces the cows to lactate more which makes them more vulnerable to mastitis (udder infection). Mastitis causes the cows to secrete pus from their udder, hence, pus incorporated milk. Monsanto s data ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My Accomplishment Analysis When most people think of an accomplishment that brought them into adulthood, many would think of their first job, going to college, or even simply receiving good grades in school. For me, my accomplishment has been a work in progress for the last six years. Sports have always been a big part of my life and how I live it. I started runningtrack in 6th grade and have had a strange bond with the sport ever since. A normal person after running their heart out for 50 seconds around the track would naturally want to rollover and puke, but it gives me a feeling inside that I can not put into words. Then spring came and track started up again, and that same number, 48.9 seconds, was posted in the locker room. By the last meet of the year, my personal best was 50 seconds. This may sound impressive to someone who knows where I started, but to me it was a disappointment because I had missed my goal for the year by a second. Through this disappointment, I saw how much I had achieved in the last three years and got the extraordinary chance to run in the Nebraska State Track meet on our team s 4x400 relay. The accomplishments I have slowly achieved over the last three years have showed me that if you work hard enough at a goal, you can achieve it with time. • 12. Descriptive Essay On The Fire Footsteps Many years ago, on August 15th, 1733, a small, unnamed town was nearly submerged in scorching hot flames. A man named Louis James Tacha was one of the civilians that was killed by the fire. Louis tried to help other people who have been swept away by the fire near the swinging bridge. The sleeve of his white, long shirt sparked with a flame which engulfed the rest of his body within seconds. He frantically tried to escape the snare of the fire, but his attempts failed. He decided to jump into a rocky, fast moving river as his last attempt to survive. Louis James Tacha s body was never found. Some say his spirit still lurks around the swinging bridge to make others disappear into the river to symbolize how quickly someone can be forgotten. The few survivors of the fire gave the name, Burnside, to the town to remember the event that took place on that cool summer night. Today, August 12th, 1983, is a big day for thirteen year old, Marcie Goupil, as she goes to an all girls summer camp in Burnside, Tennessee, for her first time. Marcie is aroused with excitement as she places her last few shirts into her over filled duffle bag. As Marcie and her dad pull up to the camp, she sees large, dull looking trees with pointy branches, and leaves that started to change colors, just barely covering a sign that reads, Camp Rio. Sensitive stages are when a child is more apt to learn something and strengthen their brain. The reason these stages are so detrimental are because the social norms learned during this time become habitual. Abuse can have a large spectrum. Abuse can be defined as neglect throughout childhood, whether that is emotional, physically, or both. Abuse can also be violent acts toward the child or a spouse. Violence can vary from sexual abuse to physical abuse or both. These factors are the foundations of a child who may have violent tendencies when they grow into adulthood. The thing that most concerns me is that we may be losing the concept of the importance of human relationships. Pine Island Glacier is the Largest Sheet of Ice on Earch Pine island Glacier is an enormous stream of ice flowing west northwest along the south of Hudson mountains into the Amundsen Sea in Antarctica. This ice sheet is the largest chunk of ice on planet Earth having a volume of a water equivalent to 57m of the global sea level. Hence, this basin has the largest net contribution of ice to the sea in the world. In the past few decades, the pine island glacier has been melting at an irreversible rate. Studies show that the ground line of the glacier has retreated 10 kilometres and is in the process of touching a 40 kilometre retreat. The glacier has been losing approximately 20 billion tons of ice each year for the past quarter of the century and is estimated to lose four times the ice in the coming quarter. As said by a glaciologist with France s Grenoble Alps University, Gael Durand, the glacier has started a phase of self sustained retreat and will continue its decline. The loss of ice from the glacier at this rate would cause disasters and hence is the latest issue of climatic concern. It has played a significant role in the rise of the global sea level. It is predicted that at this rate, the glacier will alone increase the sea level by another centimetre in the next 20 years. As a story about the relationships between men and women, I find this book a very nice read, but with Lawrence also using this novel as a way to show his readersthe evilsof machines and capitalism, at times I find it lacking. Lawrence shows how their true love and eventual marriage escapes class lines and the industrial world the author despises. This theme is also used to try and validate Lawrence s second theme in the book, industry vs. nature. Lady Chatterley s marriage with Clifford is based in the industrial setting of Wragby mansion. The marriage between these two characters revolves around this setting and is therefore shown by Lawrence to be a fake marriage since it is not set in a true natural setting. I did not realize how much until I attended college at Minnesota State University at Mankato, where I was one of 5 students from the Southern United States. I was asked if people ever thought I wasn t as smart because of my accent, if I had to walk to school, if we had outhouses, if we had electricity, and the list goes on. I had been in the military and traveled across the country and had never been asked questions like that before. It must have been because they had never really been exposed to someone from the South other than television or movies as I could come to no other conclusion. The problem is much worse for minorities because larger numbers of people have and act on these preconceived ideas without realizing that everyone is an individual regardless of the color of their skin or ethnicity. Because of the Slavery Era and years of mistreatment, African Americans most likely suffer the most from stereotypesthat have been passed down for over 150 years. The most ridiculous one I ever heard growing up was that African Americans had tails. Older people would tell white children this crazy tale to keep us from going around people of color. Sailors then do their job on a day to day basis and have to prove their skill level and level of responsibility through a series of Personal Qualification Standards (PQS) and examinations. • 30. A Research Study On Mutual Fund Essay 1.0 CHAPTER ONE 1.1 Introduction A mutual fund and also known as unit trust can be defined as a form of collective investments that allows the investors which have similar investment objectives to pool their funds to be invested in a portfolio of securities or other assets. The fund managers will invest the pooled funds in the portfolio fund, particularly include some assets like cash, bonds, deposits, stocks, commodities and also properties parallel to the fund s objectives. Each investor owns shares, which represent a portion of the holdings of the fund. The mutual fund industry in Malaysia started as far back as 1959 with the advent of the Malayan Unit Trust Limited, which was launched by a group of Australian investors. The development of the industry did not take off until the 1980s after the launch of Amanah Saham Nasional (Barom, 2004). The Amanah Saham Nasional was initiated by the Malaysian Government to promote equity ownership by the indigenous population. Aided by high and consistent economic growth since the 1990s, the mutual fund industry had grown exponentially until 1997, in which the East Asian financial crisis (EAF) of 1997 brought a sudden halt to such a rapid development. After the EAF, the Malaysian mutual fund trust industry has experienced a solid recovery. This can be reflected in the number of management companies that steadily increased from 13 in the mid 1990s to 37 in the early 2000s (Saad et al., 2010). In line with the rapid growth of the ... • 35. Impacts Of Anthropogenic Activities And Land Use Changes... Impacts on the forests are increasing as a result of the fantastic growth of human populations and the global spread of pollutants leading to loss of biodiversity which is one of the most severe threats to sustainability. Land use changes have transformed land cover to farmlands, grazing lands, human settlements and urban centers at the expense of natural vegetation particularly in West Africa. These changes are associated with deforestation, biodiversity loss and land degradation. The relationships between land use and biodiversity are fundamental to understanding the links between people and their environment The aim of this work is to provide a holistic view of the impacts of anthropogenic activities and land use changes on biodiversity conservation by synthesizing works and facts across a range of different related research works. 1.0INTRODUCTION Biodiversity is the variety of life on Earth. It includes diversity at the genetic level, such as that between individuals in a population or between plant varieties, the diversity of species, and the diversity of ecosystems and habitats. It offers the unique operational constraints of its targets being primarily of carbonate lithology (limestone s and chalks.) This structural composition offers potential to be enhanced via a chemical or water flooddue to its relatively high permeability and other reservoir characterization. Contained within is the research and findings after building and executing a simulation of the potential for a flood in this area. 1 Introduction Water and polymer flooding have seen a surge in older fields as a method of extracting bypassed hydrocarbons in the secondary production phase of the reservoir. Typically, the floods have seen the largest increase of EUR in reservoirs that have highly mobile fluids and with a high permeability formation. This allows the fluids to rapidly move through the formation and push the desired hydrocarbons towards our production wells. These reservoirs are typically in the form of deeper sandstone reservoirs, but studies are being conducted in an attempt to implement the floods in other reservoir types. Through this paper we will evaluate the needs of an EOR process in carbonate formations to evaluate their potential implementation in the Darst Creek Oil Field in Luling, Texas. The evaluation will evaluate studies of flood effectiveness in other carbonate reservoirs to evaluate both the operational and theoretical constraints of this specific ... The aim of this combination was to Create an oil entity rivaling the biggest in the world . The two chief executives Exxon s Lee Raymond and Mobil s Lucio Noto announced then that the main motive of their merger was to compete more effectively in the face of sharp drops in oil prices. One objective the bigger company was set to achieve would be to cut costs of operation so as to maximize profit. • 41. Essay on Western Music vs. Indigenous Music Introduction: Defining reconciliation alone can be a cumbersome task. It has been defined as many things such as a collection of lived practices a culture, a cultural project, a sea change in the psyche of a nation and a product of the imagination of the lunar left (Rigney Hemming, 2011). The main idea one should keep in mind when reading this paper, is the discrepancies between Indigenous and Western worlds and the way in which they conceptualise music. When understanding music as a tool for reconciliation, it can be defined under any of the headings stated above. The way in which traditional and popular music is discussed in this paper can be identified as a collection of lived practices a culture (Rigney Hemming, 2011) . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When thinking about the music industry from this point of view, the lack of credit and exposure given to traditional music is appalling. Traditional communities assign an array of powers to their music such as: the power to heal sickness, create bountiful game, cause lightning to strike [and] kill (Mills, 1996). As Allan Marett (2005) states in his text Songs, Dreamings and Ghosts: there is a great deal of ambivalence within Australian society about the contribution that Aboriginal knowledge and modes of expression can and should make to the national consciousness, ranging from those who embrace Aboriginal ways of being in the world as the key to understanding how to be in Australia, to those who reject them totally as primitive, inimical to development, or simply irrelevant to civilised values. This description is a seemingly accurate account from both sides of non Indigenous Australian s perceptions of Indigenous Australians. John Howard s eleven year reign as Prime Minister, and his political campaign of Practical Reconciliation , sheds some understanding on the assimilationist and westernised mindset that some Australian citizens possess (Gunstone, 2010). However, as Australia becomes more multicultural unless the nation is content with going into a state of ruin acceptance of diverse cultures must be recognised and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Analysis Of Mirrors By Eduardo Galeano Mirrors by Eduardo Galeano Throughout this book, Galeano had stories that showed our history and the brutality in life The stories in the book displayed themes including fear, racism, depression, slavery and violence. For example, I happen to know from my previous classes regarding the history of African Americans including from an author by the name of Toni Morrison who suggests humanity started with Africans. There was similar information from one story called A Feast On Foot and within the story was the line The human adventure in the world began in Africa (Galeano 1) however there was the first line that stated Adam and Eve were black? which could suggest racism. Other examples Galeano relates to include how violent we humans have been which is presented into stories such as The Torturer s Confession and We Were All Executioner s. One line that got my attention that tied both of them together was understanding that the most enthusiastic punishers were also the most enthusiastic sinners (101). It is my understanding knowing that punishers and sinners both caused torture and mistreatment toward humanity no matter what race, gender or color they might be. Violence was portrayed in both a racist and religious matter in very few stories Galeano presented especially on pages 122 128 when he told of stories about the devil being the following: Muslim, Jewish, black, poor, foreign, homosexual gypsy and Indian. Despite how people view their religious beliefs, there was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
