Biography Of Joseph Stalin
Joseph Stalin was born on December 21, 1879, originally named Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili.
He was born in a village known as Gori in the Russian province of Georgia. His father was a
shoemaker, and a drunk. He left Gori when Stalin was young to find work in the city of Tiflis. With
his father gone, Joseph s mother, Yekaterina, made the biggest impact on his life it was she who led
him in his education. Joseph started out at the local Gori Church School. After attending there, he
went to the Tiflis Theological Seminary on a scholarship. Joseph s mother hoped that at this school, he
would learn to become a priest. Instead, Stalin became a devoted advocate for Marxist revolution.
After leaving the Seminary in 1899, he joined the Social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stalin was elected General Secretary of the Party in 1922, and although he quickly began to increase
his personal power, no one realized how dangerous he was at this time. As he neared a 1924 death,
Lenin began to grow wary of his former protégé, and wrote a Testament warning against Stalin s
influence. But the other members of the Politburo, Lenin s circle of advisers, ignored the Testament
and allowed Stalin to remain in a position of power. At this point, Stalin began his rise to dominance
by destroying his rival Trotsky, expelling him from the party in 1927 and exiling him from the Soviet
Union in 1929. Meanwhile, he brilliantly played the Politburo s factions off one another, first allying
with Nikolai Bukharin and his Rightists to destroy the Leftists, and then, when his position was
secure, turning on Bukharin and destroying his power. By 1930, he stood alone atop the Party and the

Operation Iraqi Freedom And Operational Design
In order to develop effective solutions for complex military problems, the Joint Community within the
US Military adopted the methodology of Operational Design in Joint Doctrine. This methodology
addresses the concept of complex, ill structured or wicked problems. In fact, Lessons Learned as a
result of operations conducted over the last 15 years played an instrumental role in the continued
development of this doctrine. Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) illustrates a perfect case study for
evaluation utilizing this methodology. Therefore, the intent of this paper is to evaluate US Military
campaign planning for OIF by using operational design as the framework for this analysis. First, this
paper looks at how planners and commanders interpreted pre invasion civilian policy guidance, their
understanding of the current operational environment, and how these commanders defined the
problem. Next, it identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the initial approach. After discussing this
initial approach, this paper examines how commanders assessed the campaign and refined the
approach to include how the reframing occurred. Lastly, it provides examples of how these lessons
learned shaped current joint planning policy and doctrine. Based on initial guidance received from
Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) Donald Rumsfeld in November 2001, CENTCOM Commander,
GEN Tommy Franks and his team of planners perceived that the original contingency plan developed
in the event of war with Iraq

The Biblical Interpretation Of Exodus And Song Of...
After Reformation period, the allegorical biblical interpretation was criticized and rejected by
contemporary biblical interpretation theory, and a lot of Christian evangelical churches. However, as a
long tradition stems from the early church, allegorical interpretation has never been disappeared; on
the contrary, it was one the most important exegesis tradition in the history of Chinese Protestant
Church. Many fundamentalist theologians and church leaders were influenced by it, while Jia Yuming
is one of the representative figures. This paper attempts to explain the characteristic of Jia Yuming` s
allegorical biblical interpretation, and to explore the contribution of his exegesis in Chinese Christian
theology. Jia Yuming`s allegorical interpretation was influenced by several theological schools. He
graduated from Presbyterian seminary, and had reformed theology background, then he influenced by
pietistic theology and Charismatic movement, and then turned to allegorical exegesis. In this paper,
we will use Jia Yuming` s interpretation of Exodus and Song of Solomon as an example to analyze its
characteristics. Exodus had a lot of narrative and laws, and was allegorical explained by Jia Yuming.
Song of Solomon is the most difficult book to interpret and often be interpreted as an allegory.

Similarities And Differences Between 1848-1861
The periods from 1763 1776 and 1848 1861 are similar in that they both share an escalation and
polarization problems, but even with the similar they are still different and lack consistency when
comparing the two periods in American history. The obvious is that both took place on American soil.
The led up to the American Revolution had many issues that the colonies were growing anger over
how the British Government handle them. An issue that can be compare between the both would be
the Dred Scott v Stanford court case and the trial of the British soldier after the Boston Massacre. The
cases are similar in that one side wanted this to be an example for their cause. The colonies wanting

The South threaten leaving the Union, because of the election of 1860 with Lincoln winning it. The
South did not want to lose their way of life and felt the only way would be to leave the Union. The
similarity in polarization of the two periods is that the farmers both times were on the side of
rebellion. The differences is that the American Revoulation was an east verves west, for example
North Carolina. The farmers who live in the west hated anything that the eastern city folks supported.
The eastern normally supported the British government and big business, so the farmers in the west
would just hate the British, because of the fact that people in the eastern supported them. The led up to
the Civil War was north verves south. This is showed through all of the compromises leading up to the
secession, for example the the Great Compromise of 1850. The North wanted California to enter as a
free state. The South feeling that their will lose power in Congress wanted the North to pass stricter
laws that would enforce the Fugitive Slave laws. The north got California and the south got the

Surgeon General Report
For over 50 years, the Surgeon General has been warning about the dangers of tobacco use and
smoking. The most recent report, The Health Consequences of Smoking 50 Years of Progress: A
Report of the Surgeon General, offers information and statistics related to the monetary costs and
physical dangers of smoking. Although the number of people who smoke has declined, if the current
rates remain the same, nearly 6 million Americans who are alive today and under the age of 18 will
die prematurely from a disease related to smoking. Additionally, half of the people today who continue
to smoke will die prematurely due to a smoking related condition.

The Cariboo Cafe
Immigrant Tragedy in The Cariboo Café
Helena Maria Viramontes grew up in Los Angeles where relatives used to stay and live with her
family when making the transition from Mexico to the United States. This is where she got her first
taste of the lives of immigrants in this country within the urban barrios. Viramontes s writing reflects
this theme along with expressing her political opinions on the treatments of immigrants, especially
Chicanos and Latinos. In her short story The Cariboo Café, Viramontes brings these ideas to life
through three sections narrated by different individuals tied into the story. The Cariboo Café is a story
of Chicano immigrants and a Central American refugee. Along with these characters is the owner ...

It also introduces new people: Paulie a man who frequently visits the café, and JoJo, his son, who the
reader understands has died. The speaker also talks of Nell, his ex wife. Though there were things that
annoyed him about her, he still speaks fondly of her. For instance, he remarks, That s why Nell was
good to have ‘round. She could be a pain in the ass, you know, like making me hang those stupid
bells, but mostly she knew what to do. This allows the reader to see that the loss of his family has had
a deep impact on him. He misses his wife and son and speaks of how families should be together,
though his never will be again. This is what provokes him to do what he did next. The speaker sees a
young sister and brother come into the Cariboo Café with their mother. He also sees this same woman
and children on T.V. with the report that the woman kidnapped these children. He states that he does
not ordinarily get involved in affairs like these; however, when the police show up at the café, he
points them toward the bathroom where the woman and two children are. The third section changes
speakers once again. The reader is now getting a first person narrative of a Central American refugee
woman. In the first paragraph she speaks of her son, Geraldo, who has been taken away from her and
put in the detainers. Her voice is much less harsh than the previous speaker. Hers is softer and

A Study On The Killer Whales
Killer whales were first captured and separated from their family group (pods) to be put display for the
public 1964. After years of research in their natural habitat and at marine parks throughout the world,
it has become obvious that they belong in the ocean and not kept in captivity (Rose). The stress that
killer whales feel at being kept in tanks for the general public s amusement changes their natural
behavior and makes them a danger to anyone who has direct contact with them. I feel that after so
many years of having marine biologists and veterinarians studying these animals in captivity that little
can be left to learn about the killer whales to justify breeding killer whales and keeping them in
marine parks. Killer Whales ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Male killer whales typically live up to 30 years in the wild but can live for as long as 60 years. Female
killer whales typically live up to 50 years but they can live as long as 100 years ( Killers ). In captivity,
only a few out of the more than 200 whales that have been either captured in the wild or bred at the
marine parks have lived beyond 40 years (Rose). Female killer whales become sexually active
between 6 10 years of age and males between 10 13 years of age. Female killer whales in the wild are
thought to breed every three to five years and nurse their calves for the first one to two years. The
gestation period for the pregnancy is seventeen months ( Welcome ). Killer whales are very social
animals and are commonly found in pods of as few as 3 to more than 25 animals including at least one
large male. Killer whales typically stay in their pods for their entire lives. Various pods of killer
whales have been observed mixing with other pods either for social interactions or mating ( Killer ).
They communicate through a series of whistle and clicks, which can be modulated by pitch and
multiple harmonics. Pulsed calls are the most common form of vocalization that resembles squeaks,
screams, and squawks to the human ear ( Killer ). Killer whales are actually pack hunters, like wolves,
coordinating their attack and herding their prey into a small area. They are called killer whales due to

The Importance of Government Infrastructural Investment...
How Important is Government Infrastructural Investment for Nuclear Power Generation?
Introduction
In an era when many industry analysts project peak oil will be reached by mid century or sooner,
identifying opportunities to promote alternative energy sources assumes new importance and
relevance. This paper provides a review of the relevant literature to determine the importance of
government infrastructural investment for nuclear power generation. The research will show that these
investments are widely regarded as essential because of the high costs of nuclear development and
power generation. A discussion concerning the form government involvement assumes in the form of
policy statements regarded nuclear power is followed by an assessment concerning whether detailed
regulation should be used for the approval of nuclear plant designs, operating practices, nuclear fuel
supply arrangements, sponsoring nuclear research development, and ownership control of enrichment
reprocessing facilities. Finally, an evaluation of what economic influences concerning nuclear
development views versus fossil fuel power generation is followed by a summary of the research and
important findings in the conclusion.
Review and Analysis Although governmental infrastructural investment in nuclear power generation
facilities has been traditionally considered vital, there are other types of governmental investments in
the industry, including policy statements. Governmental policymakers in the

The Importance Of A Four Day Work
Introduction The definition of a four day work week varies depending who you are talking to. It can
refer to four eight hour days; four ten hour days; or even four twelve to fourteen hour days. However
all variations of a four day work week fall under the umbrella term alternative work arrangement. This
term refers to any work schedule that varies from the standard five, eight hour work day that the
majority of the United States population is used to (Bird 1063). For the purposes of this paper I will be
talking about a compressed four day work week, not a shortened four day work week or extended four
day work week, this refers to a four hour work week I will be talking about a schedule that consists of
four, ten hour days, which is still a full forty hour work week. I will be taking a close look at the
benefits and drawback to both the employer and the employee when it comes to working a four day
work week. In addition to looking at the benefits to those directly related, the employer and employee,
I will also touch on some benefits to those who are indirectly benefited; which refers to the general
population. At first glance it would appear to many people that a four day work week is not different
than a standard five day work week; after all the same number of hours are being work at weeks end.
So, that begs the question why is it that only roughly 960,000 Americans, which is less than 1% of the
labor force work a four day work week (Thank God it s Thursday? 74)?

The Characteristics Of The Jazz Style Of Ella Fitzgerald
Learning a great deal about musicality, the business side of music and how to take care of herself, the
next few years brought a great deal of success to Chick Webb and herself.
With the raise of the new jazz style, bebop, jazz music moved from the diatonic conventions of the
swing era to more chromatic harmonies, complex rhythms and more notes and chord options. This
style caught Ella s attention and during her time with the Chick Webb band, she got her start
improvising in the bop style.
Ella is said to have described the early days of the bop revolution as something of a nightmare. I felt
that I was being left behind, and I was, she says. A few years later Ella found herself as the guest
touring with Gillespie s band. She was thrilled to listen to this new music day in and day out on the
road and quickly found she had enough musicianship and ears or ability to hear the intricacies of this
hipper jazz. Ella Fitzgerald became an expert with the new modern rhythms and harmonies and her
improvisation and musicianship as a singer improved drastically. Her inspirations during this era were
Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie and she was able to imitate their playing style and the timbre of the
saxophone and trumpet. Not only was she able to copy their playing style but also could sound just
like Parker and Gillespie. This is made apparent in her solo from the live recording of How High the
Moon . This song is a great song for any beginning scat singer to

Zoos Persuasive Essay
Imagine being captive for life. In a cage locked up when your so innocent. Zoos have become a
controversial issue in our society, and from what I am thinking, I feel that it s not right to keep the
animals in zoos. So do we have the rights to do that? Generally every body has been to a zoo at least
once in their life, I m sure you can remember when you were a kid adoring animals behind glass. But
you were missing the point the big picture.
Animals need freedom it s like being locked in a jail cell. Animals can t do there wild life features

The point of the race is to see how many laps you can go in one hour on one battery charge. Even

and closed toed loafers to enter and attended the conference sessions. Leaving my hotel room and
stepping onto the elevator, I was ready for the day.

nurses list their highest degree as an ADN (The Impact of Education..). However, hospitals are

Nature And Nature In Keats s Ode To A Nightingale
Edleen Begg was in 1948 among the first to question Keats s supposed love for nature. Her study,
taking aim primarily at Keats s travel correspondence, concluded that natural beauty rarely impressed
him other than through literary mediation or association. If the letters in question might come off as
suspicious by Romantic standards of scenic devotion, they describe with a hint of Heinrich Heine s
irreverent travel writing experiences that must be considered emblematic to the modern sightseer.
While Keats deplores the tourist invasion of the Lake District, disfiguring the noble tenderness of
Lake Windermere with its miasma of London (KL, I, 299), he also expresses a longing for a seat, and
a Cup o tea when picturesque mountains, castles and Lakes have become common (KL, I, 351) goods.

membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated because I want to grow and contribute my
time and talent to an illustrious, originating organization. I aspire to be a part of a sisterhood where I
can express myself, and have my skills nourished by prospering African American women. This
summer I was involved in a traumatic car accident and survived, tragically two of my dearest friends
did not. On the car third spin I squeezed my eyes shut, and braced myself for a collision. Suddenly, the
car jolted forward and flipped. At that very moment I realized that I am here for a greater purpose, and

Comparing Orwell s Arguments On Politics And The English...
The English language is not something that is complicated. It is just something that needs to be
practiced to perfection. Over a long period of time, it has slowly become something that is hard for
people to understand. It is just as difficult for people today as it would have been one hundred years
ago. Orwell makes this extremely clear in Politics and the English Language. Even though this was
written in 1946, there are many points and arguments that still have relevance today. One of his main
arguments is that the reason that this language has had an extreme downfall is because of politics and
economics. He argues that political language has become dull and somewhat useless. To clarify his
argument, he uses writings from two professors and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essay was written right around the corner away from World War Two, which was an event that I
am sure was full of politics and economics. Orwell states that in his time, political writing was largely
the defence of the defensible. He is saying that the wrong acts of politician writers can be defended,
but only by the type of arguments that meet the same standards of their own. He goes on to illustrate
his argument by using examples of dropping atom bombs on Japan and the continuance of British rule
in India. Around this time in history in America when people saw this in the newspaper, they probably
thought that it was all ok. Maybe this would be because nothing happened to their country. Or because
the articles in the paper were written by the type of bad writers that Orwell expose in his essay. The
articles were probably sugar coated with huge words to overlook the fact that people were struggling
and being killed. Which means that the vagueness and euphemisms in these political writings are
obvious. No one really wanted to straight up say that America killed at least 129,000 people when
bombing japan. You can still see that this same problem occurs here in 2015. They will say that 200

Pet Guinea Dog Research Paper
Unexpectedly as she approached, my sister showed a worried face as she held our pet guinea pig. His
name was Ramiro, he and his guinea pig brother were our first pets ever. We had just gotten home
after spending a whole morning garage sale hunting with our mom and brother. It was around 2:30 in
the afternoon when we were experiencing something new, the loss of a member of our family.
Although he was just a guinea pig, a big bond grew between him and our family. It was from that day
December 7, 2012, that our lives changed, we sat petting our new pets as our dad turned a normal pet

As a new business it is essential for us to make an identity in the market and since there already are a
few competitors using clone scripts on their websites, which is a generic web platform. Our focus is to
invest in a customized web ordering platform, which will help us build a unique identity and give us
originality. It will be a good start to kick off with a unique, secure and a feature rich website that gets
people to trust you.
Social media friendly and SEO:
Database management and information structure on our website will be built very strong with our web
development team so that any search engine giving us more visibility can easily read our data. Our
competitors, both Food ninja and Menu log are currently using a flash based platform, which is not a
right extension for SEO, as the SEO cannot identify a flash platform. This is going to give us a strong
strategic upper hand in reaching out to people by having more visibility.
Creating a larger database:
We will be creating an exhaustive database of restaurants in wellington by partnering with them, even
the ones who are not keen, we will work on a temporary strategic alliance to show them our reach and

In the book Buffalo Jones Forty Years of Adventure written by Charles Jones, Jones describes the
Plain Indians as, The most tenacious of life than any race I have ever encountered. The Plain Natives
consisting primarily of Blackfoot, Arapaho, Cheyenne, Crow, Kiowa, Lakota, saw the bison a sacred
animal because it provided almost everything they needed to survive. A good bison kill would weigh
about 2,000 pounds, 800 pounds of which was good to eat. The natives could use the bladder and
stomach to store water and keep meet fresh, the hides were used as cover for teepees and the various
bones as weapons. The Plain Natives believed that the bison were created by the Great Spirit for the
soul purpose of keeping their tribes alive, making them cherish the bison as a literal life line. In Jones
s book, Jones depicts his encounter with Chief Big Indian of the Cheyenne tribe. In this way when
Jones shows Chief Big Indian where a herd of bison was, Chief Big Indian was ecstatic with
excitement, and signaled the rest of his hunters that he had found a herd. Within half an hour, 100
Indians came from miles away to the signaled spot. Every able bodied man from the tribe was out
hunting for bison. This shows how important the bison were for the natives. When a single herd of
bison was sighted it was so important that every man in the tribe would leave their wives and children
at risk to hunt down the herd. During the mid 1800 s, the American frontiersmen were

Being and Humans in Heidegger s Letter on Humanism and in his Contributions to Philosophy
ABSTRACT: Heidegger s main question, the question of Being concerning human facticity, struggles
to uncover the original ground to which humans belong, a ground from which modern society tends to
uproot itself through the dominance of calculative and representational thinking. What is most
dangerous for Heidegger about this process is that the original ground of humans and beings in
general might be covered and forgotten to the extent that humans lose completely the sense of what
they truly need. The task of philosophy is to help bring back humans and beings in general to the place

Heidegger s question of Being, is a question which concerns human facticity, i.e. our actual being in
the world in its temporal and enigmatic character. As he stated in the 30s, for him this question arose
out of the experience of the forgetfulness of Being [Seinsvergessenheit] and of the abandonment of
Being in beings [Seinsverlassenheit des Seienden], that is, out of the possibility of not being at all.
With the question of Being, Heidegger struggled to uncover the original historical ground to which
humans belong, a ground from which modern society tends to uproot itself through the dominance of
calculative and representational thinking. What is most dangerous for Heidegger in this process, is that
the original ground of humans and beings in general might be covered and forgotten, to the extent that
humans loose completely the sense of what they truly need. For Heidegger, the task of thinking (of
philosophy) is to help to bring back humans and beings in general to the place to which they originally
belong, i.e. to their originally, most fulfilled way of being which is their proper or own [das Eigene,
eigen].
En own ment or Ap propri ation [Er eign is] is the key word in Heidegger s thinking since the 30s, in
which he attempts to think more originally than metaphysics the relation between Being and

The Vascular Species Of Flora Essay
The naturalised vascular species of flora throughout New Zealand at present has similar totals to the
native species (Williams Cameron, 2006), and newly naturalised species are being discovered at an
increasing rate (Howell, 2008). Approximately 19% of all naturalised species are presently recorded as
environmental weeds (Howell, 2008). Unfortunately, these statistics can, incorrectly, give the
impression that New Zealand environments are inundated with an abundance of diverse weeds.
Rather, the majority of naturalised plants, together with weeds, still inhabit a mere fraction of the wild
land habitats throughout New Zealand (Williams Wiser, 2004). In the centuries to come, it is predicted
that weeds and other naturalised floras will increasingly occupancy areas of New Zealand, even for
millenniums as has appeared to have occurred with Europe s naturalised plants (Pysek Jarosik, 2005).
The general origins of naturalised flora species were as decorative garden and feature plants (Howell,
2008), as such they commonly are present near human settlements (Timmins Williams, 1991). When
random wild land sites were surveyed few, if any, environmental weed species are generally found
(Sullivan, Williams, Timmins, 2006). This suggests that environmental weeds are generally in the
initial stages of infiltration into New Zealand s environments, thus, there is an opportunity to curb
further dispersal. Methods of long distance dispersal differ among environmental weed and

Theme Of Choices In A Rose For Emily And Hills Like White...
In life, everyone has choices that can determine their future. There are always two choices in life, one
that will leave people not regretting their decision and another that will always make an individual
second guess the choice they made. Choices do not just happen to real people they can also happen to
characters in pieces of literature. In every story, short or long, the reader gets an understanding of the
characters and the situation(s) they are in. In A Rose for Emily and Hills like White Elephants the
characters in these stories the characters make decisions that change their lives. The author conveys
the theme of choices can take people s lives in different directions by using symbolism, imagery, and
oppression of women. Faulkner, the author of A Rose for Emily uses symbolism through the entire
story to help convey the theme. An example of symbolism would be Emily Garrison s house. The
house is a very old pre civil war house which during the time Emily s father was alive it was a very
nice and prestigious house. Her house helps the development of the theme by being a symbol for an
older generation. Emily Garrison is stuck in the past and does not want to accept that times have
changed and her house is a good representation of that. Her house never changes and it never does in
the story because Emily makes the choice to not go on with the times which helps allude to the theme.
In the story Hills like White Elephants by author also uses symbolism. The

The difference between pandas in the wild and in captivity. The captive ones can live up to 30 years.
According to (www.livescience.com) they live longer in captivity than they do in the wild. When they
live in the wild they often die from being overweight. However they don t always live the same length

works of art, and can be impacted by their illustrations. Certain books have influenced today s reality
more than others widely praised writer Ernest Hemingway opined that The Undertakings of
Huckleberry Finn, by Imprint Twain, encapsulates the Incomparable American Novel. Hemingway
expressed All current American writing originates from Huck Finn... there has been nothing as great

s brains. It makes sense that the subjects communicated by Twain in Huck Finn resound in numerous
present day works. Huck Finn is maybe a standout amongst the most examined works of the last two
hundred years, and a hefty portion of its focal topics have as of now been distinguished: the everyday
ones of abolitionist servitude, loss of honesty, and transitioning. Be that as it may, there are still some
astonishing truths to reveal. Twain was a conceded Visionary, a defender of elusive belief system that
picked up fame in the nineteenth century. It is likely that Twain was so included in and influenced by
Introspective philosophy that he, if just intuitively, endeavored to spread the theory to the world. Upon
close examination, it turns out to be clear that Twain uses his position as an author to

Similarities Between David And Goliath
Many of us are familiar with the narrative of David and Goliath David, the youngest son of Jesse of
Bethlehem, is a shepherd boy, whom God anoints as king over Israel.
One day, Israel is challenged to battle by the Philistines. David, the young shepherd boy, volunteers to
fight Goliath, the Philistine champion. Though the Israelite army is quivering in fear, David is
confident of emerging victorious, with the aid of five smooth stones and he does, with God s help.
Thus, the narrative is portrayed as an inspirational account for anyone whose odds are against them:
by holding fast to faith in God, they triumph in the end. Or if someone is facing a difficult situation,
these are a list of things to note in order to overcome their difficulties. ... Show more content on

When God saves by a tiny shepherd boy, it is clear that the battle is the Lord s.
What does this mean for us today?
Looking to the gospel narrative in the New Testament we see that David is a foreshadow of a greater
King Jesus. Conversely, Goliath foreshadows God s greater enemy of sin and Satan. Hence as Christ s
people today, our victory in overcoming sin depends not on our strength, willingness or faithfulness
but that of Jesus, our Messiah, Christ, and Champion.
Who, then, are we in this narrative?
We re not David nor Goliath we re the feeble, cowardly Israelites cowering in fear. We have no
capability to fight sin on our own strength and our human efforts have no significance in this battle
anyway.
Yet, this is good news for us when we were unable to fight for ourselves, Jesus defeated the enemy on
our behalf. In the same way that David s victory is Israel s triumph, Jesus has conquered the grip of
Satan and sin on the Cross He has fought and gained the victory over death and the judgment of God

The Land As A Rival Of The Old Testament s Promise Land
Colonist were attracted to New England as a result of reports that depicted the land as a rival of the
Old Testament s promise land. In a nearly ironic set of ecological blunders the colonist would
drastically transform the land and the way of life of its native inhabitants. In essence their mercantilist
mind set would change the ecology of New England through trade, deforestation, and practices
associated with livestock. Upon arrival the colonist began to trade with the Indians. The colonist
would supply the Indians with goods such as brass and copper pots in exchange for animal furs. As
their relations with the natives continued colonist realized that the Native Americans valued trade
goods primarily as a status symbol [1]. This observation may have lean the colonist to begin trading in
wampum. Wampum is a strings of white and purple beads which Native Americans commonly traded
amongst themselves. The wampum were a symbol of wealth and power [2]. The colonial fur traders
began collecting vast quantities of this to trade for fur. Initially they would trade guns and
commodities for the wampum [3]. Then trade the wampum for the desired furs. However, in 1637 a
colonial group attacked the Peguots and took the wampum by force. The colonist considered this to be
a safer alternative to trading guns with the natives [3]. Trade with the colonist caused the Native
Americans to increase their hunting beyond that which was necessary for food gathering [4]. They

Martin Luther And John Calvin Essay
The Renaissance was a time where individuals questioned numerous aspects of European culture and
society, which have collectively broadened the worldview from medieval to modern. As such, a new
wave of theological thinking emerged from the dissent of the late Medieval church, and this is
commonly known as the Reformation. Martin Luther is often credited as the Great Man whose Ninety
Five Thesis a provocative set of questions targeting the Church set in motion the pivotal process of
religious change, known as Protestantism. The radical change from medieval Christianity to modern
Christianity is often confined to the ideas of two important men: Martin Luther and John Calvin. It is
also important to note the vastness of time that the Renaissance dominated compared to the short
period within 1517 to 1559 that these two reformers lived. Yet without them, without the challenging
and convincing religious arguments and questions they put forward justification by faith alone, the
doctrine of double predestination the religious change as seen in the sixteenth century, as well as even
the name of the movement could ve been very different.
In the year 1509, the year in which John Calvin was born, Martin Luther had already begun spreading
his teachings. By the age of eight, Martin Luther had publicized his Ninety Five Thesis and the
German Reformation had already seen the culmination of Luther s teachers and influence. During the
time of Calvin s first published book, Luther

We Shall Overcome Rhetorical Analysis
Martin Luther King Jr. once said that, Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be
demanded by the oppressed. During the time period (1850s) in which Frederick Douglass gave a
speech entitled The Hypocrisy of American Slavery, slavery was still a prominent feature of American
society, especially in the Southern States. Douglass, like many others, was an abolitionist, someone
who advocates the abolition or ending of something, such as slavery. Douglass s speech was intended
to shine a light on what he called the hypocritical practice of slavery within the United States of
America. Lyndon B. Johnson on the other hand, was the 36th president of the United States of
America (1963 1969), and he served during a period in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In We Shall Overcome, Johnson also employs pathos when he asserts ...we are met here tonight as
Americans not as Democrats or Republicans. We are met here as Americans to solve that problem. By
using restatement of the phrase we are met here as Americans, Johnson develops the literary device of
pathos by eliciting feelings of patriotism within his audience. The feelings of patriotism in turn call for
compassion based on equality from Johnson s audience. In addition, by saying the term American,
Johnson s audience would be able to realize the nature of the treatment of fellow Americans (African
Americans such as Martin Luther King Jr.) and possibly lead to change. Overall, the application of
pathos by Douglass and Johnson sparks emotions that can lead to societal transformations. Douglass
and Johnson use parallelism, which is the use of components in a sentence that are grammatically the
same, and they also use anaphora, which is the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of
successive clauses, to further their arguments to affect change in their communities. For example, in
his speech, Douglass, when speaking about what African Americans do, states ...digging gold in
California, capturing the whale in the Pacific, feeding sheep and cattle on the hillside... which is
parallelism due to the structure of the phrase, beginning with a verb and leading

Introduction To Poetry By Billy Collins
Billy Collins, born and raised in Manhattan, New York, is one of America s most successful poets.
Known for very famous poems such as The Art of Drowning and Introduction to Poetry, Billy Collins
has succeeded in the department of English Literature for much of his life. With a bachelors degree
from the College of Holy Cross and a Masters and PHD from the University of California, Riverside,
Billy Collins went on to become a college English professor at Lehman College in the Bronx. He is
and for a long time has been a strong advocate for encouraging young people to get into poetry and
even created the program Poetry 180 where he made a collection of 180 poems for schools to read one
poem every school day. Setting him apart from the average poet, Collins received the utmost honor
from the Library of Congress when he was declared the U.S. poet Laureate in 2001, serving for two
years. Following the September 11th terror attacks, Collins wrote and read a poem entitled The Names
that was dedicated to the victims. Unlike many poets who write extremely emotional poems, drawing
from their traumatic backgrounds, Collins keeps it simple and rights about relatable, average, middle
class lifestyle topics; both of his poems Introduction to Poetry and Embrace are emblematic of that.
The poem Introduction to Poetry is one of Collins most famous works of literature. The poem begins

Most of your assets are to be distributed among children or family. Estate planning should be taken
care of before ones death rather than after. If nothing is setup then there is a probate court that will
distribute and properly execute to people or organizations, which is required by law. It is
recommended that your assets be set up as a nonprobate property. Meaning that you have distributed
your assets by transfer to a designed beneficiary, transfer to property ownership designation and
transfer by payable death designation. Having a joint tenant in a property transfers immediately to that
person upon ones death and for payable on death designation allows for the beneficiary to access
funds immediately with proof of a death certificate. A will also establishes what should be done with
any remaining assets after death. This is done through a personal representative that identifies ones
assets, collects any money due and after that is established they will pay off any debts and after filing
income tax distributes it with the permission of the court. Keep in mind that spouses have legal rights

Such sentiments prevailed in the minds until the 19th century. In Russia, folk methods of treating
impotence were popular. One of the recipes advised men to smear the man parts with a mixture of deer
fat and chopped chicken hearts. In the late 19th century, scientific approach to the problem of sexual
disorders appeared. American William Hammond, in 1883, wrote his Sexual impotence in the male
and called early sex and masturbation the main reasons for ED. The scientist suggested the young men
to refuse sex life up to 21 years, and limit the number of sexual acts to three a month. As the ED
treatment, William Hammond suggested the abstention for a year. At the same time, moxibustion
therapy with nettles and electrical stimulation were developed. In the 20th century, the struggle against
male impotence became more efficient. Masturbation was justified, and doctors divided the causes of
ED into psychological and physical. An enormous role was given to the background diseases that
provoke impotence. The medicine made a huge step forward. There was a set of effective methods of
treatment, which gave positive results in 95 % of cases, and the men returned to the joy of sexual life.
For the treatment of psychological ED, hypnosis was actively used in 60s. Since 1982, doctors
prescribed a special injection into the penis. Since 1985, vasodilators came to the rescue. At the

Johnny Appleseed Research Paper
American folktales are something many of us grew up hearing mom or dad read before bed. Johnny
Appleseed is a legendary hero of many of these stories, and with good reason. Based on a man named
John Chapman, an American pioneer, who wore a pan as a hat and traveled to spread apple trees and
compassion to the early Westerners. His vision was to sate hunger issues with blossoming apple trees
abounding. Wherever he went, love and peace were spread, and this is shown with his many friends;
including Native Americans, settlers, and animals! Born in Massachusetts on September 26th, 1774, as
the second child of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Chapman, John was welcomed as their first son. The place
he was born has a granite stone marker, and the street is named after him Johnny Appleseed Lane. His
father fought at Concord in 1775 as a Minuteman, and while he was off to war, Johnny s mother
passed away directly after birthing their second son, Nathaniel jr. The baby followed his mother to the

The House of Mirth a novel which irrefutably presents the human creature as being subject to a
naturalistic fate but which conveys a looming sense of hope that one may triumph over environment
and circumstance if one possesses a certain strength of will or a simple faith in human possibility.
Because of Wharton s slight deviation from naturalistic conventions, a literary debate exists among
critics as to the validity of viewing The House of Mirth as a novel which embodies ... Show more

Making this theme uniquely hers, however, is Wharton s creation of two characters who are
exceptions to the seemingly ubiquitous law of social determinism (Gerard 410). These characters,
Nettie Struther and Lawrence Selden, one triumphing over her environment through sheer will, the
other transcending it through faith in human possibility, create a small tear in the formidable fabric of
strict naturalism, thus engendering a hope for the triumph of the human spirit.
Edith Wharton develops Lady Bart as a character who is a product of her environment, preyed upon
by circumstance and fate. Lily s name, referring to a highly ornamental flower, immediately creates
the image of a delicate creature who is grown in the rich soils of society and who, if uprooted from
this societal soil, would wither and perish. Lily, as any living organism, is not simply a static figure in
her environment. Instead, she is a true naturalistic character, responsive and subject to the conditions
of her surroundings. For example, when Lily and Selden meet at Bellomont, Lily s beauty expanded
like a flower in sunlight (108) and, her face turned toward him with the soft motion of a flower (109).
Thus, although it can be argued that Lily is not a naturalistic character because of Wharton s emphasis

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in Born on the Fourth of...
Unsure of exactly what movie to watch, I looked for an interesting title on the list, hoping that one
may jump out at me and interest me. I did not want to write a paper on something I had watched
previously, as I did not want to have a biased opinion and I wanted to make sure I paid attention to all
the details for the paper. If I had seen the movie before, I may have skipped over it or lost focus during
the film. The title Born on the Fourth of July seemed patriotic and I wondered what exactly it would
be about. I decided to research a synopsis of the film and realized it was about a soldier and in turn I
assumed the disorder displayed in the movie would be Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

It shows the hardship of a Marine s first time deployed, and thoroughly shows every aspect the
struggle of the physical and mental rehabilitation. It showed how he began drinking and partying in
Mexico as a way to cope with his newly developed unpleasant attitude and displeasing demeanor.
When he returns to the US as an advocate against the war, it shows the difficulty the protestors
endured and how difficult their mission was. When the film ends it shows how Kovic went full circle
from desiring to be in the Marines and being a part of the war, to a drunken protestor dealing with his
PTSD and how he turned everything around and became a straight laced advocate against war for the
Democratic Party, speaking at the Democratic National Convention (Stone Kovic, 1989).
When one goes through a stressful and traumatic ordeal, some individuals develop an anxiety disorder
known as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD. Although there are treatments available for Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder, its broad array of symptoms makes it a difficult condition to treat. Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder is a mental health condition often caused by some form of traumatic event.
PTSD takes a toll on both your mental health and sometimes your social and physical interactions
with other individuals.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a disorder in which fear and related symptoms continue to be
experienced long after a traumatic event (Comer, 2014,

Constructing A Peanut Butter And Jelly Sandwich Lab Report
Constructing a peanut butter and jelly sandwich encompasses a number of steps. First, open the jar of
peanut butter by holding the jar by the side in one hand and screwing the lid off of the jar using your
fingers on the other hand. Then repeat the same procedure to open the jar of jelly. Using your fingers,
lift up the knife in the middle of the handle and insert the knife, blade down, into the jar of peanut
butter. Keeping your fingers on the knife s handle, rotate the knife in the jar, so that the knife
accumulates a dollop of peanut butter. Extract the knife by the handle out of the peanut butter jar and
use the knife to smoothly spread the peanut butter onto the top of one of the slices of bread. When you
have finished spreading the peanut

Parenting And Religion In Stephen King s Carrie
In Stephen King s Carrie, later turned into a movie produced by Kevin Misher, with a screenplay by
Lawrence D. Cohen Roberto Aguirre Sacasa, Carrie White is a young girl who is subject to mental and
physical abuse. With a mother who believes life should revolve around praying, and being religious,
Carrie finds it nearly impossible to fit in socially. Due to dealing with her mother s religious intensity,
Carrie can t live the normal life she longs for. Carrie s home environment is toxic in such ways that it
creates physical and emotional strain, being made to attend chapel and worship services on Sundays,
Tuesdays, and Fridays Carrie can t participate in normal teenage activities such as parties, football
games, etc. Like all teenagers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every once in a while when Carrie worked up enough courage to ask her mother about things like
menstruation, she was accused of sinning for even thinking about those things. Carrie was alienated
from society, and ended up using her psychic powers to hurt the people who made fun of her.
The abuse that Carrie experienced from her mother, that started at such a young age the day she was
born, impedes upon normal psychosocial development in an adolescent. When examining Erikson s
Theory of Psychosocial Development, Carrie missed a couple of stages, this is obvious to any person
that is familiar with the theory. In Erikson s first stage, Trust Versus Mistrust, it is essential that the
child s caretaker provides proper compassion, love, and care to the child (Psych^5, pg. 244). Carrie s
mother hasn t successfully delivered the proper care required to allow a child to flourish. Margaret
attempted to take Carrie s life on a couple of occasions, proving she was unfit from the beginning. For
example, in the very first scene of the movie Margaret attempted to kill Carrie with a pair of scissors,
she didn t go through with it, and later said that she was weak for not giving Carrie to God. Due to all
of the traumatic events Carrie has been through, she has failed the Trust Versus Mistrust stage. She is
unable to trust her own mother, and when she was asked to the prom, she believed she was being
tricked, the

The Character Of Faber In Fahrenheit 451

English 001A
6 November 2017
Characterizer: The Sieve and The Sand The character Faber in Fahrenheit 451 is an old retired English
Professor that acts as a guide, a teacher, to Guy Montag. Montag initially seeks out Faber to find more
about books, as he caught Faber once with something that seemed to be of literature. He spoke in
rhyme and rhythm, perhaps familiar with poetry and other literary devices. Montag wanted a copy of
the bible to read and decipher, thus requesting one from Faber, having obtained his contact
information from his last encounter. Montag insists for a copy of the Bible, even calling Faber, with
not much of a reply. Even when Montag goes to knock on Faber s door, Faber still won t open. After

Faber is both amazed and surprised at the courage Montag has to seek him out. Montag insists that
Faber is the only person that can help him figure out and decipher what he is reading. Faber
reminisces about the old smell of books as well as Christ, who has become a different character in
their present day media. He also labels himself as a coward, for not being able to stop all the burning
of books when it first started. At this point of time, Farber becomes more of a teacher to Montag rather
than just a mere consultant. Faber explains that Montag seeks knowledge, not the books themselves
but what s inside them. Faber believe that books are feared because they record history and life and
that people need leisure time to think, which people did not have the enjoyment at the time. He
believes burning books is foolish, because it removes the knowledge and wisdom that they contain
from people. He also believes that people need to react and change from the present day society. Faber
also acts as an acquaintance to Montag s plans. Immediately after Faber s explanations, Montag agrees
and wants to start a rebellion, wanting to steal books and reprint them. Faber continues to be a guide
and consultant for Montag, continuing to exchange

  • 2. Biography Of Joseph Stalin Joseph Stalin was born on December 21, 1879, originally named Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili. He was born in a village known as Gori in the Russian province of Georgia. His father was a shoemaker, and a drunk. He left Gori when Stalin was young to find work in the city of Tiflis. With his father gone, Joseph s mother, Yekaterina, made the biggest impact on his life it was she who led him in his education. Joseph started out at the local Gori Church School. After attending there, he went to the Tiflis Theological Seminary on a scholarship. Joseph s mother hoped that at this school, he would learn to become a priest. Stalin was elected General Secretary of the Party in 1922, and although he quickly began to increase his personal power, no one realized how dangerous he was at this time. As he neared a 1924 death, Lenin began to grow wary of his former protégé, and wrote a Testament warning against Stalin s influence. But the other members of the Politburo, Lenin s circle of advisers, ignored the Testament and allowed Stalin to remain in a position of power. At this point, Stalin began his rise to dominance by destroying his rival Trotsky, expelling him from the party in 1927 and exiling him from the Soviet Union in 1929. Meanwhile, he brilliantly played the Politburo s factions off one another, first allying with Nikolai Bukharin and his Rightists to destroy the Leftists, and then, when his position was secure, turning on Bukharin and destroying his power. • 3. Operation Iraqi Freedom And Operational Design In order to develop effective solutions for complex military problems, the Joint Community within the US Military adopted the methodology of Operational Design in Joint Doctrine. This methodology addresses the concept of complex, ill structured or wicked problems. In fact, Lessons Learned as a result of operations conducted over the last 15 years played an instrumental role in the continued development of this doctrine. Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) illustrates a perfect case study for evaluation utilizing this methodology. Therefore, the intent of this paper is to evaluate US Military campaign planning for OIF by using operational design as the framework for this analysis. First, this paper looks at how planners and commanders interpreted pre invasion civilian policy guidance, their understanding of the current operational environment, and how these commanders defined the problem. Next, it identifies the strengths and weaknesses of the initial approach. After discussing this initial approach, this paper examines how commanders assessed the campaign and refined the approach to include how the reframing occurred. Lastly, it provides examples of how these lessons learned shaped current joint planning policy and doctrine. Based on initial guidance received from Secretary of Defense (SECDEF) Donald Rumsfeld in November 2001, CENTCOM Commander, GEN Tommy Franks and his team of planners perceived that the original contingency plan developed in the event of war with Iraq ... • 4. The Biblical Interpretation Of Exodus And Song Of... After Reformation period, the allegorical biblical interpretation was criticized and rejected by contemporary biblical interpretation theory, and a lot of Christian evangelical churches. However, as a long tradition stems from the early church, allegorical interpretation has never been disappeared; on the contrary, it was one the most important exegesis tradition in the history of Chinese Protestant Church. Many fundamentalist theologians and church leaders were influenced by it, while Jia Yuming is one of the representative figures. This paper attempts to explain the characteristic of Jia Yuming` s allegorical biblical interpretation, and to explore the contribution of his exegesis in Chinese Christian theology. Jia Yuming`s allegorical interpretation was influenced by several theological schools. He graduated from Presbyterian seminary, and had reformed theology background, then he influenced by pietistic theology and Charismatic movement, and then turned to allegorical exegesis. In this paper, we will use Jia Yuming` s interpretation of Exodus and Song of Solomon as an example to analyze its characteristics. Exodus had a lot of narrative and laws, and was allegorical explained by Jia Yuming. Song of Solomon is the most difficult book to interpret and often be interpreted as an allegory. 1. The obvious is that both took place on American soil. The led up to the American Revolution had many issues that the colonies were growing anger over how the British Government handle them. An issue that can be compare between the both would be the Dred Scott v Stanford court case and the trial of the British soldier after the Boston Massacre. The differences is that the American Revoulation was an east verves west, for example North Carolina. The farmers who live in the west hated anything that the eastern city folks supported. The eastern normally supported the British government and big business, so the farmers in the west would just hate the British, because of the fact that people in the eastern supported them. • 7. The Cariboo Cafe Immigrant Tragedy in The Cariboo Café Helena Maria Viramontes grew up in Los Angeles where relatives used to stay and live with her family when making the transition from Mexico to the United States. This is where she got her first taste of the lives of immigrants in this country within the urban barrios. Viramontes s writing reflects this theme along with expressing her political opinions on the treatments of immigrants, especially Chicanos and Latinos. In her short story The Cariboo Café, Viramontes brings these ideas to life through three sections narrated by different individuals tied into the story. She could be a pain in the ass, you know, like making me hang those stupid bells, but mostly she knew what to do. This allows the reader to see that the loss of his family has had a deep impact on him. He misses his wife and son and speaks of how families should be together, though his never will be again. • 8. A Study On The Killer Whales Killer whales were first captured and separated from their family group (pods) to be put display for the public 1964. After years of research in their natural habitat and at marine parks throughout the world, it has become obvious that they belong in the ocean and not kept in captivity (Rose). The stress that killer whales feel at being kept in tanks for the general public s amusement changes their natural behavior and makes them a danger to anyone who has direct contact with them. I feel that after so many years of having marine biologists and veterinarians studying these animals in captivity that little can be left to learn about the killer whales to justify breeding killer whales and keeping them in marine parks. • 9. The Importance of Government Infrastructural Investment... How Important is Government Infrastructural Investment for Nuclear Power Generation? Introduction In an era when many industry analysts project peak oil will be reached by mid century or sooner, identifying opportunities to promote alternative energy sources assumes new importance and relevance. This paper provides a review of the relevant literature to determine the importance of government infrastructural investment for nuclear power generation. The research will show that these investments are widely regarded as essential because of the high costs of nuclear development and power generation. A discussion concerning the form government involvement assumes in the form of policy statements regarded nuclear power is followed by an assessment concerning whether detailed regulation should be used for the approval of nuclear plant designs, operating practices, nuclear fuel supply arrangements, sponsoring nuclear research development, and ownership control of enrichment reprocessing facilities. Finally, an evaluation of what economic influences concerning nuclear development views versus fossil fuel power generation is followed by a summary of the research and important findings in the conclusion. It can refer to four eight hour days; four ten hour days; or even four twelve to fourteen hour days. However all variations of a four day work week fall under the umbrella term alternative work arrangement. This term refers to any work schedule that varies from the standard five, eight hour work day that the majority of the United States population is used to (Bird 1063). For the purposes of this paper I will be talking about a compressed four day work week, not a shortened four day work week or extended four day work week, this refers to a four hour work week I will be talking about a schedule that consists of four, ten hour days, which is still a full forty hour work week. I will be taking a close look at the benefits and drawback to both the employer and the employee when it comes to working a four day work week. In addition to looking at the benefits to those directly related, the employer and employee, I will also touch on some benefits to those who are indirectly benefited; which refers to the general population. At first glance it would appear to many people that a four day work week is not different than a standard five day work week; after all the same number of hours are being work at weeks end. So, that begs the question why is it that only roughly 960,000 Americans, which is less than 1% of the labor force work a four day work week (Thank God it s Thursday? 74)? ... The Characteristics Of The Jazz Style Of Ella Fitzgerald Learning a great deal about musicality, the business side of music and how to take care of herself, the next few years brought a great deal of success to Chick Webb and herself. With the raise of the new jazz style, bebop, jazz music moved from the diatonic conventions of the swing era to more chromatic harmonies, complex rhythms and more notes and chord options. This style caught Ella s attention and during her time with the Chick Webb band, she got her start improvising in the bop style. Ella is said to have described the early days of the bop revolution as something of a nightmare. I felt that I was being left behind, and I was, she says. A few years later Ella found herself as the guest touring with Gillespie s band. She was thrilled to listen to this new music day in and day out on the road and quickly found she had enough musicianship and ears or ability to hear the intricacies of this hipper jazz. Ella Fitzgerald became an expert with the new modern rhythms and harmonies and her improvisation and musicianship as a singer improved drastically. Her inspirations during this era were Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie and she was able to imitate their playing style and the timbre of the saxophone and trumpet. Her study, taking aim primarily at Keats s travel correspondence, concluded that natural beauty rarely impressed him other than through literary mediation or association. If the letters in question might come off as suspicious by Romantic standards of scenic devotion, they describe with a hint of Heinrich Heine s irreverent travel writing experiences that must be considered emblematic to the modern sightseer. While Keats deplores the tourist invasion of the Lake District, disfiguring the noble tenderness of Lake Windermere with its miasma of London (KL, I, 299), he also expresses a longing for a seat, and a Cup o tea when picturesque mountains, castles and Lakes have become common (KL, I, 351) goods. Orwell makes this extremely clear in Politics and the English Language. Even though this was written in 1946, there are many points and arguments that still have relevance today. Orwell states that in his time, political writing was largely the defence of the defensible. He is saying that the wrong acts of politician writers can be defended, but only by the type of arguments that meet the same standards of their own. He goes on to illustrate his argument by using examples of dropping atom bombs on Japan and the continuance of British rule in India. Around this time in history in America when people saw this in the newspaper, they probably thought that it was all ok. Maybe this would be because nothing happened to their country. Or because the articles in the paper were written by the type of bad writers that Orwell expose in his essay. The articles were probably sugar coated with huge words to overlook the fact that people were struggling and being killed. Which means that the vagueness and euphemisms in these political writings are obvious. No one really wanted to straight up say that America killed at least 129,000 people when bombing japan. You can still see that this same problem occurs here in 2015. They will say that 200 citizens were killed in countries overseas by the Americans instead of saying that most of them were innocent people and possibly even children and babies that were murdered and we don t really care who they were. It s all about the way that the authors write their articles and how they want their audiences to feel. Just to make them think that bad things are acceptable. This is what I get from Orwell s essay. What is most dangerous for Heidegger about this process is that the original ground of humans and beings in general might be covered and forgotten to the extent that humans lose completely the sense of what they truly need. Heidegger s question of Being, is a question which concerns human facticity, i.e. our actual being in the world in its temporal and enigmatic character. As he stated in the 30s, for him this question arose out of the experience of the forgetfulness of Being [Seinsvergessenheit] and of the abandonment of Being in beings [Seinsverlassenheit des Seienden], that is, out of the possibility of not being at all. With the question of Being, Heidegger struggled to uncover the original historical ground to which humans belong, a ground from which modern society tends to uproot itself through the dominance of calculative and representational thinking. What is most dangerous for Heidegger in this process, is that the original ground of humans and beings in general might be covered and forgotten, to the extent that humans loose completely the sense of what they truly need. The Vascular Species Of Flora Essay The naturalised vascular species of flora throughout New Zealand at present has similar totals to the native species (Williams Cameron, 2006), and newly naturalised species are being discovered at an increasing rate (Howell, 2008). Approximately 19% of all naturalised species are presently recorded as environmental weeds (Howell, 2008). Unfortunately, these statistics can, incorrectly, give the impression that New Zealand environments are inundated with an abundance of diverse weeds. Rather, the majority of naturalised plants, together with weeds, still inhabit a mere fraction of the wild land habitats throughout New Zealand (Williams Wiser, 2004). In the centuries to come, it is predicted that weeds and other naturalised floras will increasingly occupancy areas of New Zealand, even for millenniums as has appeared to have occurred with Europe s naturalised plants (Pysek Jarosik, 2005). The general origins of naturalised flora species were as decorative garden and feature plants (Howell, 2008), as such they commonly are present near human settlements (Timmins Williams, 1991). When random wild land sites were surveyed few, if any, environmental weed species are generally found (Sullivan, Williams, Timmins, 2006). This suggests that environmental weeds are generally in the initial stages of infiltration into New Zealand s environments, thus, there is an opportunity to curb further dispersal. • 27. Theme Of Choices In A Rose For Emily And Hills Like White... In life, everyone has choices that can determine their future. There are always two choices in life, one that will leave people not regretting their decision and another that will always make an individual second guess the choice they made. Choices do not just happen to real people they can also happen to characters in pieces of literature. In every story, short or long, the reader gets an understanding of the characters and the situation(s) they are in. In A Rose for Emily and Hills like White Elephants the characters in these stories the characters make decisions that change their lives. The author conveys the theme of choices can take people s lives in different directions by using symbolism, imagery, and oppression of women. Faulkner, the author of A Rose for Emily uses symbolism through the entire story to help convey the theme. An example of symbolism would be Emily Garrison s house. The house is a very old pre civil war house which during the time Emily s father was alive it was a very nice and prestigious house. Her house helps the development of the theme by being a symbol for an older generation. Emily Garrison is stuck in the past and does not want to accept that times have changed and her house is a good representation of that. Her house never changes and it never does in the story because Emily makes the choice to not go on with the times which helps allude to the theme. In the story Hills like White Elephants by author also uses symbolism. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Certain books have influenced today s reality more than others widely praised writer Ernest Hemingway opined that The Undertakings of Huckleberry Finn, by Imprint Twain, encapsulates the Incomparable American Novel. Hemingway expressed All current American writing originates from Huck Finn... there has been nothing as great since. This is an intense explanation, since it gives Twain, as the writer, remarkable impact over today s brains. It makes sense that the subjects communicated by Twain in Huck Finn resound in numerous present day works. Huck Finn is maybe a standout amongst the most examined works of the last two hundred years, and a hefty portion of its focal topics have as of now been distinguished: the everyday ones of abolitionist servitude, loss of honesty, and transitioning. Be that as it may, there are still some astonishing truths to reveal. Twain was a conceded Visionary, a defender of elusive belief system that picked up fame in the nineteenth century. It is likely that Twain was so included in and influenced by Introspective philosophy that he, if just intuitively, endeavored to spread the theory to the world. Upon close examination, it turns out to be clear that Twain uses his position as an author to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Similarities Between David And Goliath Many of us are familiar with the narrative of David and Goliath David, the youngest son of Jesse of Bethlehem, is a shepherd boy, whom God anoints as king over Israel. One day, Israel is challenged to battle by the Philistines. David, the young shepherd boy, volunteers to fight Goliath, the Philistine champion. Though the Israelite army is quivering in fear, David is confident of emerging victorious, with the aid of five smooth stones and he does, with God s help. Thus, the narrative is portrayed as an inspirational account for anyone whose odds are against them: by holding fast to faith in God, they triumph in the end. When God saves by a tiny shepherd boy, it is clear that the battle is the Lord s. What does this mean for us today? Looking to the gospel narrative in the New Testament we see that David is a foreshadow of a greater King Jesus. Conversely, Goliath foreshadows God s greater enemy of sin and Satan. Hence as Christ s people today, our victory in overcoming sin depends not on our strength, willingness or faithfulness but that of Jesus, our Messiah, Christ, and Champion. Who, then, are we in this narrative? We re not David nor Goliath we re the feeble, cowardly Israelites cowering in fear. We have no capability to fight sin on our own strength and our human efforts have no significance in this battle anyway. Yet, this is good news for us when we were unable to fight for ourselves, Jesus defeated the enemy on our behalf. In a nearly ironic set of ecological blunders the colonist would drastically transform the land and the way of life of its native inhabitants. In essence their mercantilist mind set would change the ecology of New England through trade, deforestation, and practices associated with livestock. Upon arrival the colonist began to trade with the Indians. The colonist would supply the Indians with goods such as brass and copper pots in exchange for animal furs. As their relations with the natives continued colonist realized that the Native Americans valued trade goods primarily as a status symbol [1]. This observation may have lean the colonist to begin trading in wampum. Wampum is a strings of white and purple beads which Native Americans commonly traded amongst themselves. The wampum were a symbol of wealth and power [2]. The colonial fur traders began collecting vast quantities of this to trade for fur. Initially they would trade guns and commodities for the wampum [3]. Then trade the wampum for the desired furs. However, in 1637 a colonial group attacked the Peguots and took the wampum by force. The colonist considered this to be a safer alternative to trading guns with the natives [3]. Trade with the colonist caused the Native Americans to increase their hunting beyond that which was necessary for food gathering [4]. They began to hunt purely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Martin Luther And John Calvin Essay The Renaissance was a time where individuals questioned numerous aspects of European culture and society, which have collectively broadened the worldview from medieval to modern. As such, a new wave of theological thinking emerged from the dissent of the late Medieval church, and this is commonly known as the Reformation. Martin Luther is often credited as the Great Man whose Ninety Five Thesis a provocative set of questions targeting the Church set in motion the pivotal process of religious change, known as Protestantism. The radical change from medieval Christianity to modern Christianity is often confined to the ideas of two important men: Martin Luther and John Calvin. It is also important to note the vastness of time that the Renaissance dominated compared to the short period within 1517 to 1559 that these two reformers lived. Yet without them, without the challenging and convincing religious arguments and questions they put forward justification by faith alone, the doctrine of double predestination the religious change as seen in the sixteenth century, as well as even the name of the movement could ve been very different. In the year 1509, the year in which John Calvin was born, Martin Luther had already begun spreading his teachings. During the time period (1850s) in which Frederick Douglass gave a speech entitled The Hypocrisy of American Slavery, slavery was still a prominent feature of American society, especially in the Southern States. Douglass, like many others, was an abolitionist, someone who advocates the abolition or ending of something, such as slavery. Douglass s speech was intended to shine a light on what he called the hypocritical practice of slavery within the United States of America. Lyndon B. In We Shall Overcome, Johnson also employs pathos when he asserts ...we are met here tonight as Americans not as Democrats or Republicans. We are met here as Americans to solve that problem. By using restatement of the phrase we are met here as Americans, Johnson develops the literary device of pathos by eliciting feelings of patriotism within his audience. The feelings of patriotism in turn call for compassion based on equality from Johnson s audience. In addition, by saying the term American, Johnson s audience would be able to realize the nature of the treatment of fellow Americans (African Americans such as Martin Luther King Jr.) and possibly lead to change. Overall, the application of pathos by Douglass and Johnson sparks emotions that can lead to societal transformations. Douglass and Johnson use parallelism, which is the use of components in a sentence that are grammatically the same, and they also use anaphora, which is the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses, to further their arguments to affect change in their communities. Johnny Appleseed is a legendary hero of many of these stories, and with good reason. Based on a man named John Chapman, an American pioneer, who wore a pan as a hat and traveled to spread apple trees and compassion to the early Westerners. His vision was to sate hunger issues with blossoming apple trees abounding. Wherever he went, love and peace were spread, and this is shown with his many friends; including Native Americans, settlers, and animals! Born in Massachusetts on September 26th, 1774, as the second child of Nathaniel and Elizabeth Chapman, John was welcomed as their first son. Essay about Naturalism in The House of Mirth Naturalism in The House of Mirth Challenging the strict deterministic confines of literary naturalism, which hold that the human being is merely one phenomenon in a universe of material phenomena (Gerard 418), Edith Wharton creates in The House of Mirth a novel which irrefutably presents the human creature as being subject to a naturalistic fate but which conveys a looming sense of hope that one may triumph over environment and circumstance if one possesses a certain strength of will or a simple faith in human possibility. Making this theme uniquely hers, however, is Wharton s creation of two characters who are exceptions to the seemingly ubiquitous law of social determinism (Gerard 410). These characters, Nettie Struther and Lawrence Selden, one triumphing over her environment through sheer will, the other transcending it through faith in human possibility, create a small tear in the formidable fabric of strict naturalism, thus engendering a hope for the triumph of the human spirit. Edith Wharton develops Lady Bart as a character who is a product of her environment, preyed upon by circumstance and fate. Lily s name, referring to a highly ornamental flower, immediately creates the image of a delicate creature who is grown in the rich soils of society and who, if uprooted from this societal soil, would wither and perish. Lily, as any living organism, is not simply a static figure in her environment. Instead, she is a true naturalistic character, responsive and subject to the conditions of her surroundings. For example, when Lily and Selden meet at Bellomont, Lily s beauty expanded like a flower in sunlight (108) and, her face turned toward him with the soft motion of a flower (109).
