Reading And Writing Process Analysis
The opening line of my first version of the assignment I as a Writer was I do not excel in writing... and
after revising and peer editing it becomes apparent. However, learning about transitions and using
interpretation helped me to write a final draft that I am pleased with. Changing the order in which I
gave the information was the first thing I changed from my rough draft to the final. My first version
had the evidence for my reading and writing skills first. Then the connection between reading and
writing was used as a conclusion. In the final I switched it by using the information about the
connection of reading and writing first, followed by the evidence, and then the interpretation. This
new way of organizing the evidence made much

The Important Aspects Of Effective Nursing
Communication is one of the most important aspects in effective nursing. For a nurse to be successful,
communicating with patients, families, physicians, peers and ancillary departments is necessary.
Communication is not only verbal with language, words and sound, but also non verbal. Non verbal
behaviors such as touch, facial expressions, eye contact and movement, posture and silence make up
more than half of the art of communication (Giger, 2013). The population in the United States is
comprised of various cultures with different views of the meaning of non verbal communication.
Understanding the views of various cultures can create a positive and healing environment for the
patient, as well as increase patient and employee satisfaction (Starr Wallace, 2011).
Many patients feel comforted by touch; a hand on the shoulder can help to alleviate fear in the hospital
setting. Many cultures from Latin America, Spain and France are extremely affectionate and
communicate through touch (Giger, 2013). These cultures often share kisses on the cheek, hugs and
handshakes when greeting one another. As a nurse, I have experienced the embrace of a family from
Mexico showing appreciation for taking care of their loved one. It is important to understand that
other patients with different cultural backgrounds such as those from Germany and England, might
find this type of physical contact invasive and inappropriate (Giger, 2013). Therefore, it is important
for the nurse to understand the

Deaf President Now Analysis
Video Review 2
Prior to watching the Deaf President Now , I thought of a college president as a really important job.
Even though it can be stressful majority of the time, It looked to be very rewarding. A college
president is the head of everything that happens on the college campus. This includes protecting the
students safety and attaining the knowledge to satisfy the needs of campus. From researching, a
president s duty is to maintain the college campus and to keep it open for improvements(Cook,2012).
Finding someone to maintain the college campus is one of the most important and demanding actions
that has to be done. The process of hiring would be very difficult since the college president must

The board wanted a hearing president because that is who they thought would do a better job and they
assumed that a deaf president couldn t fulfill certain roles. On the other hand, the students demanded
that there be a deaf president to represent the college to its fullest potential. It is known that a deaf
person can do everything a hearing person can besides hear((University 1988). The reason the students
protested is because the deaf candidate was best suited for the position. The assumptions the board of
trustees made were not very accurate and fair compared to the rest of the community. It was surprising
to see that the board members were not supportive for the deaf community since they are associated as

Leatherback Sea Turtle Research Paper
The Leatherback Sea Turtle, Dermochelys coriacea, is one of the largest marine turtles found
throughout the ocean as a whole. They are found in parts of the East Coast of North America to the
Atlantic of Canada, through New Guinea and the Sea of Nova Scotia. They are shown to migrate to
parts of the Western and North Pacific Ocean during their nesting season where they migrate to
warmer waters. Studies have been done that results in nesting periods of in two to three year intervals
but mating multiple times a season around early spring to late summer, March July (James et al.
2005). They have unique diet such as jellyfish, squid, and tunicates. This organism is very adaptable to

This was showed by testing the packed cell volumes, hematologic health parameter in the blood, of
nesting leatherback sea turtles from a wildlife refuge in the Virgin Islands and then compared those
results to the newly hatchlings. The Results detected a trend after taking samples from 175 samples.
(Perrault et al 2016). This trend that showed a decline of packed volume cells during breeding season
and were higher in turtles that laid more clutches. Which also means that the species recorded foraged
less for food rather than the previous studies stated that they foraged more (Perrault et al 2016). These
compared to the other studies shows that the behaviors in these species may be differed on numerous
factors. These factors could be such as lack of food in one area where the test site was, poor
reproductive rates that season as well as error in the measurements of the collection tools of each
study. One factor most people do not think about is how healthy a species needs to be, and have that
need of a clean environment such as an oil and garbage free habitat, which in recent times may not be
in such a state. All of this factors can result in slow metabolic rates, reproductive rates as well, which
can affect a population of a certain species very rapidly. Without having a steady number of nutrients
coming into the organism it can be very

Shaffer And Peter Kotter Chapter Summary
Schäffer, Johann, and Peter Koolmees. History of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture. Verlag der
DVG Service GmbH, 2002.
This book starts off discussing the history of applied sciences. Peter Hernquist is named the father of
veterinary medicine in Sweden and was sent to veterinary school by the Swedish Authorities after
Europe was hit with a cattle plague. Later, Hernquist eventually established an agriculture school in
attempt to modernize education in his country. Within this school he proposed ideas to improve
agriculture. Some ideas entailed increasing pig population, making vinegar from rotten apples and
pears, and reducing the import of grain and use the money to reward successful farmers. While
Hernquist is coined as the father ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1853, lungsickness arrived though accidently imported cattle into the Cape Colony. A debate spread
about how to treat it, and because of the lack of veterinary services, it was confirmed that a medical
profession should come to treat it. Looking into diseases and wild animals on a closer level, chapter
five discusses bacteria. Friedrich Loeffler isolated a bacteria from diseased mice and concluded it was
not possible to infect other animals of other species. Additionally, in the past 50 years, governments
have made it a priority to control the populations of wild animals, as many of these animals hold
diseases that cause health problems. Moving on, the next chapter explains a report from The Pasteur s
Institute in Riga that focuses on the interpretation of data on rabies epidemiology and post exposure
vacation, its modification, results, and scientific work. In addition, it talks about the importance of
vaccinations. On rabies, it talks about statistics associated with it as well. After diseases became
apparent, public health became a priority. Because of the meat scares, a larger importance was placed
on the cattle and meat inspection. Veterinarians stepped in at this point, and were asked by farmers to
look at the animals and try to reduce diseases in attempt to improve food

Questions On The Cloud Industry
I. TRASNFORMATION: ON PREMISE TO HOSTED AND REMOTE a. CLOUD INDUSTRY
WWSMB spending on ICT has risen steadily; there is clear shift to hosted and remotely managed
solutions than having on premise IT products/services. By the year end of 2014, WW SMBs will have
spent over $1 Trillion in ICT solutions. Emerging markets form an imperative part of the growth in
spending in cloud solutions. Markets like Asia pacific and Latin America are adopting the new
technology shift at a very rapid rate. Cloud solutions are expected to grow at CAGR of over 25% in
Asia Pacific and Latin America at a CAGR of 21%. But mature markets still hold a major chunk of the
cloud related spending. According to a report by AMI Partners of 2014, $7 out of every $10 spent on
cloud solutions will be driven by mature markets like North America, Western Europe or Mature Asia
Pacific markets. There is mix of niche and multi industry could vendors in the market. One example of
a niche industry focused solution is Veeva, a provider of cloud based solution for medical
representative in the pharma industry that has generated impressive growth and margins. One of the
most important reason or the success was the competition that was present was only for on premise
technology and couldn t compete with the more mobile and cloud solution, which was needed for this
profile. Figure 1: Cloud Industry b. GROWING DEMAND FOR INDUSTRY CLOUD SOLUTIONS

The Worst Thing For America Essay
Donald Trump: The Worst Thing For America
The election of 2016 will always be remembered. This election will go into the history books written
one of two ways; either as one of the best elections to happen in modern time or as the nation s worst
election of all time. Donald Trump, our president elect, won with an unbelieveable electoral map. He
battled the many other possible candidates that could have been president and then he beat Hillary
Clinton. Trump, someone who idols Vladimir Putin, insults everyone among the nation including
religions, an entire mexican population, and women. This man tweets insults or states explicitly that I

The female population makes up almost 43% of the voting population in America. Insulting one
woman may as well be insulting all women, especially when Trump stated that a woman was
disgusting because she was pumping milk. The insults go on and on whether it be toward a race,
religion, or sex. The thought that a man has called women dogs, slobs, and fat pigs is outlandish and
horrid. Someone wanting to become president should refrain from insulting anyone. Women are not
some bystanders without a voice anymore; we do have an opinion, we do have a voice and being
called a dog or slobs is an issue for all women everywhere. On April 16, 2015 Donald Trump tweeted
If Hillary Clinton can not satisfy her husband what makes you think she can satisfy America? This

Analysis Of Anselm Kiefer s Burning Rods
The painting Burning Rods, made by Anselm Kiefer is very interesting all the way around from the
materials that are being used to the message it gives. At first glance of this artwork, it looks like a
piece of trash on a canvas because what the media it has on it. This painting is made up of oil, acrylic
emulsion, and shellac on canvas with lead, copper wire, straw, iron, and ceramic (STL). This is a very
interesting combination of media with a finished result of a texture and flaky looking painting with a
gold and black coloring. In the center of the painting, there are some columns. This artwork like other
major artworks has some elements that help the artist with the message. History is one of the elements
that help with understanding why he created this artwork in the first place. Anselm Kiefer was born in
1945 in Donaueschingen, Germany, and he attended the School of Fine Arts at Freiburg in Breisgau
and the Art Academy in Karlsruhe. His work has been shown in museums all over the
world(GAGOSIAN). He does a lot of his work on German history particularly stuff on the Holocaust
such as Shevirat Ha Kelim 1990(Art). .Buring Rods was created right after the nuclear power plant
meltdown in Chernobyl were there was a lot of destruction with several lives lost. This city now is

Nazi Gold Essay
Nazi Gold
The twentieth century has been credited with introducing the world to total war. World War II was one
of the most devastating wars that affected almost all the major nations in the world. A vital part of
financing the war machines of each country was the ability to pay for it all. Under the circumstances,
gold and silver were quite useful to the nation that obtained large amounts of either, and the means to
convert it all into monetary credits. Between 1938 and 1945, Nazi Germany met the aforementioned
requirements easily, as Hitler looted the central and commercial banks of occupied Europe. Nazi gold

These other nations, either neutral or independent, were in constant fear of a Nazi invasion, so they
reluctantly complied with Germany on the storage of the looted gold (Smith 1). At first, Austria had
not been considered a looted nation, as most European governments were under the opinion that the
two nations were on the verge of merging (Smith 2). This was clearly shown when, in a 1940
American court case involving Austrian assets, it was mentioned that, This change [the annexation]
has occurred in a manner acceptable to our notions of international law; the Anschluß has in no way
been disavowed #8230;. (Smith 2) As no nation interfered with Germany s takeover of Austria, the
Nazi party was able to annex the Anschluß, or Austria s Central Bank, by March 17, 1938 (Smith 2).
By 1939, Hitler had already taken over much of Czechoslovakia, as a result of the Munich
Agreements, signed in September of 1938 (Smith 4). Slowly, Czechoslovakia s assets were pulled in
by the Reichsbank, much of which was located in the Bohemian Discount bank and the Bohemian
Union Bank. Soon, after Bohemia became a German protectorate, the Nazi party was able to delve
into the large gold reserves of the Czechoslovakian National Bank, which was located in Prague
(Smith 5). Both Luxembourg and Belgium s assets were indirectly liquidated by the Nazis when

Abstract Art, Character Design, And Pencil Tests
For my case study the three pieces of artwork that I ll be talking about revolve around animation, as
that is my field of study. The artwork I chose will range from concept art, character design, and pencil
tests. First let s take a look at Hayao Miyazaki s concept art for one of his movies known as Spirited
Away, which was released in the United States in 2002. The movie appears to be satire, but that isn t
my purpose. I have five young female friends who are about the same age as Hiiragi san*, and I spend
every summer with them at my mountain cabin. I wanted to make a movie they could enjoy. That is
why I started this film, and that is my true purpose (Shoten). Those were the words of Miyazaki,
translated by Ryoko Toyama, showing that this image and the movie s purpose in general was to
provide entertainment. The intended audience for all Studio Ghibli films is family, and especially
children. Miyazaki s goal from his art is to make movies that everyone can enjoy, as stated above.
Getting back to this specific image, it is most likely a mixed media of watercolor, acrylic paint, and
probably edited with a computer, as it is a final background that was used in the movie. Immediately
you can see balance within this piece. While both sides are not exactly symmetrical it gives off that
implication by having both sides very similar if you were to split the image down the middle,
especially the train that almost appears that way on it s own. It also has a nice sense of

Essay on History of Childhood
Childhood is usually understood as a set of experiences and behaviours, gained in the early stages of
the human existence, considered as the preparation for the adult world. However, the history of
childhood is a very complex topic and it has become a very influential area of study in recent years. In
1962, the Centuries of Childhood by Philippe Ariés introduced the idea that childhood was a new
creation developed in recent centuries and as a concept it was believed to be nonexistent before the
seventeenth century. This concept means that there was no awareness of the process of childhood. In
several studies of the medieval period, Ariés noticed that childhood was not acknowledged or even
attempted to be portrayed during this period. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believes that it is at that age that reason starts to develop until finally the child becomes an adult. In
Emile Rousseau emphasises that nature wants children to take advantage of being children before
being adults and there is a period of acquiring knowledge before living in the real world. A theory of
innocence of the child emerged giving a need to protect children from the harsh reality of the adult
world. Childhood has its own ways of seeing, thinking, and feeling which are proper to it/ child s mind
considered as a blank state to be inscribed by experience: the infant is often compared to a white paper
to be written over or to a plastic substance (wax) to be molded According to Alan Richardson,
childhood gained a central position through Romantic Literature, due to its artistic and reinvigorating
movement during the eighteenth century. The supreme faculty of mind is reason by stressing strong
emotions and imagination, which is the key reason to the shaping of creative power. Childhood
acquired a sense of spirituality attached to its phenomenon; it became increasingly valued by adults,
since children represented hope and progress within society. Childhood therefore became the supreme
symbol of celebrating the cult of nature, the purity of the mind

Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is essential in the treatment of CF in order to allow the patient to live their day to day
life. In most cases, the patient will be referred to a physiotherapist by a physician soon after they are
diagnosed with CF. The job of the physiotherapist is to clear mucus secretions in the lungs and try to
maintain pulmonary function in the patient. When the patient is in their infancy, the physiotherapist
will prescribe exercises that the parents of the child can perform, as the child is unable to take
instruction and perform Airway Clearance Techniques. Instead the parents should perform postural
drainage and chest percussions [1]. As the child develops, they can begin to perform exercises such as

This increases the force behind the mucus allowing it to loosen from the lung and airway walls [2].
Pulmonary function can be determined through the use of Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs), where
the patient breathes into a small device, which then measures how much air is being inhaled and
exhaled. [3] Also, the physiotherapist may work in sync with a radiographer to determine the decrease
in pulmonary function through the use of x rays. The physiotherapist also works hand in hand with the
physician to determine the frequency of physiotherapy sessions and what is required from the
physiotherapy sessions. As the patient continues to get older, pulmonary function may decline so
much that the physician decides a lung transplant is the best option for the patient. It is very important
that the patient continues an exercise program whilst on the transplant waiting list in order to maintain
their health [4]. Post transplant, the patient should follow a daily physiotherapy plan as it has be

The Obesity Epidemic Essay
Obesity rates are soaring throughout North America (What Is Obesity?, 2013). With obesity reaching
almost epidemic proportions in the United States, and the threat of a global epidemic, we must watch
this alarming increase carefully ( Health Risks of Obesity, 2013). Obesity is defined as: ...an excess of
adipose tissue... (A Report of the Surgeon General, 2014). The two most common measures of obesity
are Body Mass Index (BMI is a ratio of weight to height) and relative weight index, such as percent
desirable weight (Body Mass Index , 2013). BMI is the most frequently used measure of obesity as it
has a strong correlation with more direct measures of adiposity, such as underwater weighing (A
Report of the Surgeon General, 2013). Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With over 22.5% of the current U.S. population considered to be clinically obese, compared to only
14.5% in 1980, there does not seem to be a cessation of this epidemic in sight (Hill Peters, 1998).
Goran and Weisners (2000) proposal that ... the inherently lower resting metabolic rate in women
versus men is responsible for the higher adiposity rates in women... is wanting, especially since the
potentially modifiable factors of; less physical strength, less daily free living physical activity, and
lower total energy expenditure are more likely the cause of the differences in observed adiposity
between men and women. Since our genetic makeup has not appreciably changed in the last twenty
years, we cannot strictly attribute the explosion of obesity to genetics. As these biological causes of
obesity are disproved, a focus on the environment as a reason for obesity is taking centre stage. With a
multitude of environmental factors playing an ever increasing role in the reasons for obesity, it is hard
to focus on one reason as the root cause of obesity. Ever decreasing levels of physical activity, married
with poor dietary habits are two likely causes of the obesity epidemic. Samaras et al. (1999) concluded
that physical activity is the strongest environmental influence on total body fat mass in healthy middle
aged women. An inverse relationship was clearly apparent between physical activity and total body

Health Inventory Scores As A Function Of Perceived Stress...
Health Inventory Scores as a function of Perceived Stress Scores Perceived stress may have an impact
on an individual s overall health. Many believe higher perceived stress would lead to more detrimental
health impacts or vice versa. However, previous studies have presented mixed results. Previous
research found rates of colds and respiratory infections to increase as stress index scores increased, in
a study of 420 men and women. Participants stress was measured using three questionnaires and each
participant was given nasal drops, containing one of five different types of respiratory viruses or saline
drops, before being quarantined with zero to two other participants. The results were found to be
consistent among each of the viruses and personality characteristics were ruled out as accounting for
the relationship between illness and stress (Cohen, Tyrrell, Smith, 1991). Researchers studying 3,271
university students in Egypt found a significant increase in self reported health symptoms and levels
of perceived stress. Students were given three questionnaires regarding stress and health symptoms.
An ANOVA was used to compare the health symptoms/complaints across levels of perceived stress.
Increasing health symptoms across four different categories aligned with increasing levels of
perceived stress, which was also broken into four different groups (Ansari, Oskrochi, Labeeb, Stock,
2014). Another study, involving 23 undergraduate students, required participants to

What Is The Role Of Slavery In African-American Culture
Slavery had also been present in New York from the earliest days of Dutch settlement. As their role

Mary Oliver s Poetry By Mary Oliver
How do authors generate ideas when writing? Many authors shape their works by reflecting on
occurrences in their lives. While some utilize positive occurrences, more often than not, poets
incorporate unpleasant experiences in their compositions. Mary Oliver exhibits this technique by
incorporating her tough childhood into her poetry. ...with words, I could build a world I could live in. I
had a very dysfunctional family, and a very hard childhood. So I made a world out of words. And it
was my salvation (Shriver). As a result of her sufferings, Oliver also turned to nature for inspiration.

Oliver emerged stronger, braver, and more trusting. She successfully liberated herself from such tragic

New Media Art With Its Intrinsic Characteristics
Crowdsourced Documentation New media art with its intrinsic characteristics (instability and
variability)[1] poses complex challenges in documentation, this observation is not new, and initiatives
such as DOCAM[2] and Variable Media Network[3] have provided methods and tools to properly
document media artworks. Nevertheless, the social phenomena of crowdsourcing and crowdfunding,
presents new challenges for established documentation methods and standards. This essay aims to
address this subject by referencing recent exhibition and art practice frequently involve public

A Streetcar Named Desire Gender Roles
The roles and representations of the women are shown to have changed dramatically, reflected through
contrasting roles women take within the Traditional period of the 1940 s and the Contemporary Period
of the 1980 s to the present. Tennessee Williams play A Streetcar Named Desire , explores the
submissive and dependent roles of a women, while exploring how rebellion against societal norm can
ostracise. Contrasted by John Lee Hancock s biopic, The Blind Side , which juxtaposes these values
by showing women in positions of empowerment.
In A Streetcar Named Desire , Williams explores the representation of women in the Traditional

Williams reflects this through Blanche s challenge to the status quo as a promiscuous woman, a non
existent action in the Traditional Period. Blanche s argumentation of her promiscuous past: You ve got
to be soft and attractive , investigates her psychological turmoil. Blanche struggles to accept that her
youth and status as a Southern Belle are fading, aspects of a woman that allowed her to find a
husband, which in turn prevented societal ostracism. The metaphor Kiefaber, Stanley and Shaw have
tied an old tin can to the tail of the kite , illustrates that Blanche is tied to her promiscuous past,
meaning she is incapable of finding a husband. Desirable qualities of a wife were respectable caste
and no past sexual relations, without these Blanche develops into a destitute woman and social pariah,
meaning her only chance at marriage, is through deception. Through her failed attempt at deceiving

past cannot be cleaned, only changed through deception, which causes her to be further ostracised as
the truth is revealed. The roles of women in the Traditional Period are reflected by Blanche s

Theme Of Sonnet 130 And Crazy Jane Talks With The Bishop
There are many things in this world that we choose to partake in for our own personal pleasures. A
sense of harmless, humorous rebellion lied within the heart of profound writers in more historical
times of literature who made it their preference to take the more parodical route towards their
audience. In Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare and Crazy Jane Talks with the Bishop by William
Butler Yeats, it is evident that both well astounding poets chose to venture into delivering a less cliche
message to their audience whilst providing a story that matches a true form of reality. A theme of
delivering the truth is well embedded into the stanzas of the two different poems and can be
overlooked if not carefully analyzed. Although Shakespeare did a phenomenal job of portraying the
beauty of an imperfect woman instead of the cliche ways of a common love sequence, it is more
important to divulge into a fascinating confrontation within Crazy Jane Talks with the Bishop. In the
poem, a glimpse of the conversation between the Bishop and a woman, whose appearance called for
the Bishop s unwelcomed input, is illustrated within the lines of the stanzas. The bishop went to tell
the woman that her appearance made her appear that she lived in some foul sty. Hence the bishop
judging her, the woman was led to defend herself against the strikes against her character. She began
to expose the truth to the Bishop by explaining that fair needs foul , and that the way that she chooses

Avon s Direct Selling Model and its Sales Representatives A Tangible Resource
As a direct seller Avon did not rely on classic advertising and marketing methods, but on door to door,
word of mouth strategy through trained sales representatives. This has been the lifeblood of the
company and over the years this has proven to be its distinct source of competitive advantage as well
(Exhibit 8).
Here we are trying to apply the tests for competitively valuable resources to the direct selling model of
Avon.
1) Test of Inimitability As a tangible resource, this has been inimitable because of the fact that Avon s
sales representatives were mainly women who wanted part time jobs. This was further re inforced
given that Avon s concentration was on beauty related products and most of these women were easily
trained on these products. This helped them in reducing the cost of advertising and

Comparing Postman And Power s Essay Bias Of Pictures
Jacob Marek Clinton Hale English 1301 5/16/17 Semantics in language In The Bias of Language, the
Bias of Pictures , Postman and Power s essay shows the underlying methods used by media through
manipulation of certain mediums such as phrasing of sentences, music, moving and nonmoving
pictures to convey feeling, and how one should be prepared to not simply take things as they are
received. They do this by using a logical appeal through breakdowns of language, an informal tone in
writing to create a common ground and pathos in the description of how these mediums can have an
effect on how we feel. Almost all words have connotative meanings . (Postman Powers 44) Postman

Throughout the article Postman and Powers use descriptive language such as we or our, giving you a
common ground as if you were sharing a common experience. This use of informal tone persuades us
to believe what they are saying instead of rubbing it off as pedantic banter.(insert something
introducing their use of pathos) Creating a similar feeling in the way the authors evaluate the effects in
which pictures can create different emotions in the viewer and the differences between those moving
and non moving. This understanding from their perspective gives deeper meaning behind something
we might see as inconsequential or dismissive but in actuality an effective tool. Take for example
Postman and Power s analogy of an aircraft carrier Suppose the ship were burning: that would be even
more interesting. This leads to an important point about the language of pictures. (Postman Powers 47)
Another example of pathos in the article is in the way they use a description of how sound when used
in news broadcasts evokes emotion in its viewers by bringing them into the non literal. When they do
this it s sort of an epiphany into something we don t ever recognise because it is simply just
understood. Such as the intentionally vibrant music played in the beginning of a broadcast to create a
sense of emergency, or the use of typewriters to symbolize the processing of data. Already, then,
before a single news item is introduced, a great deal has been communicated. (Postman Powers

Los Vendidos, Produced by Luis Valdez Essay
For centuries, the Mexican American experience has been one of adversity and endurance. The plight
of these native peoples has been ignored and many times erased from the American conscience. They
have struggled for acknowledgment, they have fought for equality and they have gone to battle for
respect. Luis Valdez s play, Los Vendidos, is just one of many contributions to this effort. A powerfully
moving play, Los Vendidos, or the sell outs , is a piece created to gain acknowledgement, heighten

Women, who have always accounted for half of the population, have not historically been recognized

Epic in A Piligrim s Progress by John Bunyan and Heart of...
What is an epic? What does a piece of literature need in order to be considered an epic? An epic is a
journey that the protagonist takes in order to find who they are themselves. A Pilgrim s Progress by
John Bunyan and Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad are two pieces of literature in which this
appears. However, A Pilgrim s Progress: Part One is more of a dream journey while Heart of Darkness
is an actual physical journey. Both of these novels however follow the standard pattern of an epic in
how they are both journey s in which the person comes to an understanding of themselves which
sometimes and sometimes does not end up saving him. A Pilgrim s Progress: Part One is a novel that
follows the structure of an epic in many different ways. For one, as even stated in the novel, Christian
s journey is a dream journey. Another way is how at the beginning of the novel the protagonist
Christian has a large burden on his back that he can not take off. This burden causes him to have the
conviction that he has many sins and is therefore in need of saving so he goes on a pilgrimage in order
to be saved. This follows the epic structure of being a young, naive man who goes on a journey in
order to obtain an understanding of himself. Throughout Christian s journey he faces many challenges
but also is helped by various people too.
Another part of the epic structure is the young man s journey through the underworld or hell. This is
shown in A Pilgrim s Progress through Christian s

Antibiotic Resistance Is A Growing Problem Throughout The...
Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem throughout the globe. Besides using antibiotics for medical
use, they are being used in the agriculture industry. In animals, antibiotics are being used to treat
diseases, but also to prevent diseases from occurring and to increase the growth of animals
(Mehndiratta, 2014, p.340). In recent years, the evidence of farmers using antibiotics for non
traditional ways has sparked major controversy. In agriculture 90% of antibiotics are used for growth
promoting and prophylactic agents with the other 10% being used to treat diseases (Khachatourians,
1998, p.2). To understand why this occurs, we first must understand the genetic basis for antibiotic
resistance and the occurrence of antibiotic resistance in selected organisms. By farmers doing this an
increase in the number and types of microorganisms resistant to drugs, has increased public health
problems. Finally, management options for reducing antibiotics in the environment have to occur. If
farmers continue to use antibiotics for non traditional uses, as humans we can be affected greatly not
just by food supply, but by water runoff, the air, and even the soil. Also, more public health problems
will occur.
However, to completely understand the effects of antibiotic resistance, we need to understand the
genetic component of how bacteria becomes resistant. An antibiotic can operate at different sites
within the bacterial cell, some infect the cell wall or the membranes, making it

The early federal courts failed to issue strong opinions or even take on controversial cases. The
Supreme Court was not even sure if it had the power to consider the constitutionality of laws passed
by Congress.
This situation seemed to have changed drastically in 1801 when President John Adams appointed John
Marshall of Virginia to be the fourth Chief Justice. Confident that nobody would tell him not to,
Marshall took clear and firm steps to define the role and powers of both the Supreme Court and the
judiciary system. This is something that seemed to have gone unnoticed so far.
The Supreme Court, under John Marshall, defined itself with its historic 1803 decision in the case of
Marbury v. Madison. In this single landmark case, the Supreme Court established its power to
interpret the U.S. Constitution and to determine the constitutionality of laws passed by congress and
the state legislatures. John Marshall went on to serve as Chief Justice for a record 34 years, along with
several Associate Justices who served for well over 20 years. During his time on the bench, Marshall
succeeded in molding the federal judicial system into what many, as I do, consider to be today s most
powerful branch of government.
Before settling at nine justices in 1869, the number of Supreme Court Justices changed six times. In its
entire history, the Supreme Court has had only 16 Chief Justices, and over 100 Associate

Nearly 12 million hectares of pasturelands are also substantially degraded. Thus, a total of 132 million
hectares representing 40 per cent of the country s total landmass have productivity well below their
potential (Tejwani Yadav, 1998).
Causes of land degradation
The main causes of land degradation are deforestation, ignorance of soil conservation practices,
extension of cultivation to marginal lands, improper crop rotation, imbalanced fertiliser use, surface
irrigation ironically designed to increase land productivity, rapid growth in population, paucity of
land, economic pressures and poverty.
Air Pollution The World Health Organization estimates that about two million people die prematurely

  • 2. Reading And Writing Process Analysis The opening line of my first version of the assignment I as a Writer was I do not excel in writing... and after revising and peer editing it becomes apparent. However, learning about transitions and using interpretation helped me to write a final draft that I am pleased with. Changing the order in which I gave the information was the first thing I changed from my rough draft to the final. My first version had the evidence for my reading and writing skills first. Then the connection between reading and writing was used as a conclusion. • 4. The Important Aspects Of Effective Nursing Communication is one of the most important aspects in effective nursing. For a nurse to be successful, communicating with patients, families, physicians, peers and ancillary departments is necessary. Communication is not only verbal with language, words and sound, but also non verbal. Non verbal behaviors such as touch, facial expressions, eye contact and movement, posture and silence make up more than half of the art of communication (Giger, 2013). The population in the United States is comprised of various cultures with different views of the meaning of non verbal communication. Understanding the views of various cultures can create a positive and healing environment for the patient, as well as increase patient and employee satisfaction (Starr Wallace, 2011). Many patients feel comforted by touch; a hand on the shoulder can help to alleviate fear in the hospital setting. Many cultures from Latin America, Spain and France are extremely affectionate and communicate through touch (Giger, 2013). These cultures often share kisses on the cheek, hugs and handshakes when greeting one another. As a nurse, I have experienced the embrace of a family from Mexico showing appreciation for taking care of their loved one. It is important to understand that other patients with different cultural backgrounds such as those from Germany and England, might find this type of physical contact invasive and inappropriate (Giger, 2013). Therefore, it is important for the nurse to understand the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This includes protecting the students safety and attaining the knowledge to satisfy the needs of campus. From researching, a president s duty is to maintain the college campus and to keep it open for improvements(Cook,2012). The board wanted a hearing president because that is who they thought would do a better job and they assumed that a deaf president couldn t fulfill certain roles. On the other hand, the students demanded that there be a deaf president to represent the college to its fullest potential. It is known that a deaf person can do everything a hearing person can besides hear((University 1988). The reason the students protested is because the deaf candidate was best suited for the position. The assumptions the board of trustees made were not very accurate and fair compared to the rest of the community. They are found in parts of the East Coast of North America to the Atlantic of Canada, through New Guinea and the Sea of Nova Scotia. They are shown to migrate to parts of the Western and North Pacific Ocean during their nesting season where they migrate to warmer waters. This was showed by testing the packed cell volumes, hematologic health parameter in the blood, of nesting leatherback sea turtles from a wildlife refuge in the Virgin Islands and then compared those results to the newly hatchlings. The Results detected a trend after taking samples from 175 samples. (Perrault et al 2016). This trend that showed a decline of packed volume cells during breeding season and were higher in turtles that laid more clutches. Which also means that the species recorded foraged less for food rather than the previous studies stated that they foraged more (Perrault et al 2016). These compared to the other studies shows that the behaviors in these species may be differed on numerous factors. These factors could be such as lack of food in one area where the test site was, poor reproductive rates that season as well as error in the measurements of the collection tools of each study. This book starts off discussing the history of applied sciences. Peter Hernquist is named the father of veterinary medicine in Sweden and was sent to veterinary school by the Swedish Authorities after Europe was hit with a cattle plague. Later, Hernquist eventually established an agriculture school in attempt to modernize education in his country. Within this school he proposed ideas to improve agriculture. Some ideas entailed increasing pig population, making vinegar from rotten apples and pears, and reducing the import of grain and use the money to reward successful farmers. A debate spread about how to treat it, and because of the lack of veterinary services, it was confirmed that a medical profession should come to treat it. Looking into diseases and wild animals on a closer level, chapter five discusses bacteria. Friedrich Loeffler isolated a bacteria from diseased mice and concluded it was not possible to infect other animals of other species. Under the circumstances, gold and silver were quite useful to the nation that obtained large amounts of either, and the means to convert it all into monetary credits. The artwork I chose will range from concept art, character design, and pencil tests. First let s take a look at Hayao Miyazaki s concept art for one of his movies known as Spirited Away, which was released in the United States in 2002. The movie appears to be satire, but that isn t my purpose. I have five young female friends who are about the same age as Hiiragi san*, and I spend every summer with them at my mountain cabin. I wanted to make a movie they could enjoy. That is why I started this film, and that is my true purpose (Shoten). Those were the words of Miyazaki, translated by Ryoko Toyama, showing that this image and the movie s purpose in general was to provide entertainment. The intended audience for all Studio Ghibli films is family, and especially children. Miyazaki s goal from his art is to make movies that everyone can enjoy, as stated above. Getting back to this specific image, it is most likely a mixed media of watercolor, acrylic paint, and probably edited with a computer, as it is a final background that was used in the movie. Essay on History of Childhood Childhood is usually understood as a set of experiences and behaviours, gained in the early stages of the human existence, considered as the preparation for the adult world. However, the history of childhood is a very complex topic and it has become a very influential area of study in recent years. In 1962, the Centuries of Childhood by Philippe Ariés introduced the idea that childhood was a new creation developed in recent centuries and as a concept it was believed to be nonexistent before the seventeenth century. Goran and Weisners (2000) proposal that ... the inherently lower resting metabolic rate in women versus men is responsible for the higher adiposity rates in women... is wanting, especially since the potentially modifiable factors of; less physical strength, less daily free living physical activity, and lower total energy expenditure are more likely the cause of the differences in observed adiposity between men and women. Health Inventory Scores as a function of Perceived Stress Scores Perceived stress may have an impact on an individual s overall health. Many believe higher perceived stress would lead to more detrimental health impacts or vice versa. However, previous studies have presented mixed results. Previous research found rates of colds and respiratory infections to increase as stress index scores increased, in a study of 420 men and women. Participants stress was measured using three questionnaires and each participant was given nasal drops, containing one of five different types of respiratory viruses or saline drops, before being quarantined with zero to two other participants. The results were found to be consistent among each of the viruses and personality characteristics were ruled out as accounting for the relationship between illness and stress (Cohen, Tyrrell, Smith, 1991). Researchers studying 3,271 university students in Egypt found a significant increase in self reported health symptoms and levels of perceived stress. Students were given three questionnaires regarding stress and health symptoms. An ANOVA was used to compare the health symptoms/complaints across levels of perceived stress. They do this by using a logical appeal through breakdowns of language, an informal tone in writing to create a common ground and pathos in the description of how these mediums can have an effect on how we feel. Almost all words have connotative meanings . (Postman Powers 44) Postman and Powers go into great detail in the beginning of the article to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the article Postman and Powers use descriptive language such as we or our, giving you a common ground as if you were sharing a common experience. This use of informal tone persuades us to believe what they are saying instead of rubbing it off as pedantic banter.(insert something introducing their use of pathos) Creating a similar feeling in the way the authors evaluate the effects in which pictures can create different emotions in the viewer and the differences between those moving and non moving. This understanding from their perspective gives deeper meaning behind something we might see as inconsequential or dismissive but in actuality an effective tool. Take for example Postman and Power s analogy of an aircraft carrier Suppose the ship were burning: that would be even more interesting. This leads to an important point about the language of pictures. (Postman Powers 47) Another example of pathos in the article is in the way they use a description of how sound when used in news broadcasts evokes emotion in its viewers by bringing them into the non literal. When they do this it s sort of an epiphany into something we don t ever recognise because it is simply just understood. Such as the intentionally vibrant music played in the beginning of a broadcast to create a sense of emergency, or the use of typewriters to symbolize the processing of data. Already, then, before a single news item is introduced, a great deal has been communicated. (Postman Powers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Los Vendidos, Produced by Luis Valdez Essay For centuries, the Mexican American experience has been one of adversity and endurance. The plight of these native peoples has been ignored and many times erased from the American conscience. They have struggled for acknowledgment, they have fought for equality and they have gone to battle for respect. Luis Valdez s play, Los Vendidos, is just one of many contributions to this effort. A powerfully moving play, Los Vendidos, or the sell outs , is a piece created to gain acknowledgement, heighten awareness and to create a sense of camaraderie amongst the people fighting in the Chicano Movement of the late 1960 s and 70 s. She is a secretary working for the governor s office that maintains a proper yet pompous American accent, and her hair is dyed a shade of platinum blond. She personifies the American aspiration to de Mexicanize the Mexican Americans. As she shops for a suitable used Mexican model the civic indifference and racism that the Mexican Americans have been forced to combat becomes progressively more apparent. Women, who have always accounted for half of the population, have not historically been recognized or respected for their contributions to society. In the past, all women have had to struggle against a chauvinistic world, but for minority women the fight has been even harder. For Mexican America women they have had two strikes against them in the eyes of America, not only were they Mexican and therefore prone to what those stereotypes entailed, but they were also women and therefore not deserving of any power or respect. Los Vendidos presents and portrays women in a very curious way. In the play, with the only exceptions being Ms. Jimenez and the mother, who only has one line, none of the female models speak Furthermore, both Ms. Jimenez and Senor Sancho deliberately ignore all of them. • 31. Epic in A Piligrim s Progress by John Bunyan and Heart of... What is an epic? What does a piece of literature need in order to be considered an epic? An epic is a journey that the protagonist takes in order to find who they are themselves. A Pilgrim s Progress by John Bunyan and Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad are two pieces of literature in which this appears. However, A Pilgrim s Progress: Part One is more of a dream journey while Heart of Darkness is an actual physical journey. Both of these novels however follow the standard pattern of an epic in how they are both journey s in which the person comes to an understanding of themselves which sometimes and sometimes does not end up saving him. A Pilgrim s Progress: Part One is a novel that follows the structure of an epic in many different ways. For one, as even stated in the novel, Christian s journey is a dream journey. Another way is how at the beginning of the novel the protagonist Christian has a large burden on his back that he can not take off. This burden causes him to have the conviction that he has many sins and is therefore in need of saving so he goes on a pilgrimage in order to be saved. This follows the epic structure of being a young, naive man who goes on a journey in order to obtain an understanding of himself. Throughout Christian s journey he faces many challenges but also is helped by various people too. Another part of the epic structure is the young man s journey through the underworld or hell. This is shown in A Pilgrim s Progress through Christian s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Antibiotic Resistance Is A Growing Problem Throughout The... Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem throughout the globe. Besides using antibiotics for medical use, they are being used in the agriculture industry. In animals, antibiotics are being used to treat diseases, but also to prevent diseases from occurring and to increase the growth of animals (Mehndiratta, 2014, p.340). In recent years, the evidence of farmers using antibiotics for non traditional ways has sparked major controversy. In agriculture 90% of antibiotics are used for growth promoting and prophylactic agents with the other 10% being used to treat diseases (Khachatourians, 1998, p.2). To understand why this occurs, we first must understand the genetic basis for antibiotic resistance and the occurrence of antibiotic resistance in selected organisms. By farmers doing this an increase in the number and types of microorganisms resistant to drugs, has increased public health problems. Finally, management options for reducing antibiotics in the environment have to occur. If farmers continue to use antibiotics for non traditional uses, as humans we can be affected greatly not just by food supply, but by water runoff, the air, and even the soil. Also, more public health problems will occur. However, to completely understand the effects of antibiotic resistance, we need to understand the genetic component of how bacteria becomes resistant. An antibiotic can operate at different sites within the bacterial cell, some infect the cell wall or the membranes, making it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Supreme Court was not even sure if it had the power to consider the constitutionality of laws passed by Congress. This situation seemed to have changed drastically in 1801 when President John Adams appointed John Marshall of Virginia to be the fourth Chief Justice. Confident that nobody would tell him not to, Marshall took clear and firm steps to define the role and powers of both the Supreme Court and the judiciary system. This is something that seemed to have gone unnoticed so far. The Supreme Court, under John Marshall, defined itself with its historic 1803 decision in the case of Marbury v. Madison. In this single landmark case, the Supreme Court established its power to interpret the U.S. Constitution and to determine the constitutionality of laws passed by congress and the state legislatures. John Marshall went on to serve as Chief Justice for a record 34 years, along with several Associate Justices who served for well over 20 years. During his time on the bench, Marshall succeeded in molding the federal judicial system into what many, as I do, consider to be today s most powerful branch of government.
