2. The Five Factor Model
THE FIVE FACTOR MODEL
James Baron and David Kreps had given the Five Factor model, which is based on Michael Porter s
Five Forces model of business analysis (Porter, 1980). These factors will influence the Competitive
Intelligence system in any organization. These factors are External Environment, Workforce,
Organizational Culture and Structure, Organizational Strategy, and Technology of Production and
Organization of Work (Baron Kreps, 1999). Lack of correspondence between any one of these factors
can lead the firm s CI practices to the failure.

External Environment
The External Environment component takes into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could also work to the firm s disadvantage, since gathered intelligence should never be
considered static. New developments are always transpiring that render recently collected intelligence
obsolete and invalid. The firm that fails to recognize this will have surely wasted its CI efforts.
Workforce
The workforce element of the Five Factor model concerns demographic factors such as social (or
workforce) homogeneity (i.e., workforce uniformity with respect to education, work experience, etc.).
Workforce consistency also includes the skill set incorporated into the team. Demographic factors can
also seriously impede or enhance CI and strategy (Baron Kreps, 1999). The skill set that the CI team
leader possesses is vital to team success. Managers need to be able to understand the degree of
management their particular team requires. Due to the creative and sometimes ambiguous nature of
CI, team leaders must know when to step in and give direction or when to let the CI team members
find their own resolution. Micro management from the team leader will likely undermine team
effectiveness and inhibit team performance as members become dependent upon guidance or possibly
resentful of interference (Simon, 2000). Too little direction from the team leader may lead to
confusion with regards to the composition of team deliverables. The team

Ocean if they live in Oregon; however, the ocean environment has been changing for the past twenty

in Oregon, overfishing and global warming. First, the primary cause of environmental changes to the
Pacific Ocean in Oregon Is overfishing. With the booming development of commercial fishing, a lot
of commercial fishing boats caught too many fish for their profits. As a consequence, some kinds of

Saint Timothy Catholic School serves God by providing each child with an individualized approach,
academic excellence, rich Catholic traditions, a solid foundation in the Catholic faith and opportunities
to serve the community. This mission statement guides all academic initiatives designed to meet the
needs of our diverse student body. Each year, teachers at St. Timothy School assess student need using
a variety of tools that measure student learning styles, as well as reading levels and math proficiency.
Using ongoing assessments in this manner provides teachers with immediate feedback on student
progress and allows teachers to analyze the effectiveness of instruction, and make modifications where
necessary. Teachers then rely on the resources available to either remediate and intervene to prevent
student failure; or accelerate and provide additional challenge for students. This remediation and
acceleration model is fluid, and allows flexibility in grouping students. It is possible that a student
would be accelerated in some areas, need remediation in others, and be on grade level for still others.
The St. Timothy School instructional model provides for the ultimate in individualized instruction.
Remediation and intervention takes many forms, depending on student need. In math, classroom
teachers use assessment data to identify students who would benefit from remediation. This may take
the form of small group instruction with the teacher, in the classroom, while other

Johnson and Johnson Baby Powder Lawsuit: What You Should Know
Recently, almost 4,800 individual lawsuits have been filed against Johnson Johnson claiming that the
company failed to warm women that if they used the powder on or near the pelvic area, they were at a
higher risk of developing ovarian cancer. Recently, one woman received an award of $417 million
after she was able to show that she used Johnson and Johnson baby powder and developed ovarian
cancer soon thereafter. According to the New York Times, Eva Echeverria, 63, of East Los Angeles is
one of thousands of women who have sued the consumer products giant Johnson Johnson claiming
baby powder caused their disease, pointing to studies linking talc to cancer that date to 1971, when
scientists in Wales discovered particles of talc embedded in ovarian and cervical tumors. Echeverria
alleged Johnson Johnson failed to adequately warn consumers about talcum powder s potential cancer
risks. She used the company s baby powder on a daily basis beginning in the 1950s until 2016 and was
diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2007. So what exactly should you know about this risk, and what
can you do if you feel as though you or someone you know may have been affected? This article will
help you make the right decisions moving forward.
How serious is the risk, and what are the causes?

One of the most inspiring and empowering time for women worldwide was when we fought for the
right to be heard. Putting their lives on the line, as was the case more for the Suffragists, or leading
community rallies, as the Suffragettes, there was no stopping the inevitable. Women would win the
right to vote. No doubt the party bus rentals were going nuts in 1918. I m often touted by friends for
not being realistic enough for the topic I spend so much time supporting, but I believe, even with all
the horrors many women endure, that women can and will unite to free themselves. It may take many
more years I m not a prophet, but I know the strength of female energy. We carry life and give birth. I

The Suffrage Movement Beginning in 1848 the worldwide women s rights movement eventually
included forty three different countries. The basic rally was for women to be given the equalities of
men. Groups were fighting for different laws to be changed within the cultural boundaries of their
country, but the bottom line was and still is, that women demand more respect. The two major players
on the stage of change for women were known as the Suffragist and the Suffragettes. These two
fractions of the whole succeeded in supporting each other to victory. Some would still argue that
women, even in developed countries, still have a long way to go before the male/female playing field
is completely level. Suffragist Both groups were passionate about their cause, however the Suffragist
were more militant about getting their message heard. By today s standards obstructing traffic and
heckling wouldn t be considered assaulting, but in the early 1900s it quickly got you thrown in jail.

could and is a concern for the United States will lead to the closing.
Mountainous terrain is the greater makeup under China s control. The Tien Shan, Kunlun range, and

the Yellow river that is 2,109 miles long, the Yangtze which is the third longest river in the world at

8. Personaltive Of Personal Narrative
Personal Narrative I heard them fighting every night, endless and endless rage at each other. I just hid
in my room and pretended it wasn t happening in my world. Hiding was the only way to escape the
fear I felt every night. Once I said Dad, why do you and Mom yell at each other? He replied with go to
your room and don t ask that again. A seven year old couldn t understand this and needed help but
with no way to learn all I could do was watch as their marriage fell crumbling to the ground.
After that is when the beating started, slowly at first, but progressively it got worse and worse. He
would come in after a fight and hit me out of frustration. I always tried to hide but he always knew
where to look. He said If you tell anyone, I ll kill you. I never once doubted it, so I never told anyone.
For the next six months I was under his rule, I had no control over how hard or how long he beat me
for. I prayed to god so many times, but he never answered. An idol is only as good as you see it as. My
father used to be my idol but after that started I was afraid being near him. I could not tell anyone, I
had no one to help me. I was trapped against a monster that I could not fight.
On my eighth birthday my dad came up to me and stated plainly We re leaving, pack up your stuff and
don t tell your mother. So I went upstairs and started to pack, but I couldn t fit all of my toys in the bag
so I shouted Mom, would you help me pack? My father thundered upstairs looking

10. Decline Of Jurassic Park
I considered the novel Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton to be a Great Read. Jurassic Park is a novel
about a group of people in an amusement park filled with genetically engineered dinosaurs after a
major problem occurs in its system. Its theme, characters, plot, and climax all intrigued me and made
me want to continue reading it. One such theme that interested me was that too much ambition can be
dangerous. In the novel, the creators of both Jurassic Park and the dinosaurs there are far too
ambitious. It is this ambition that leads to both their and the park s downfall. The two most affected
are John Hammond and Henry Wu. John Hammond wanted more dinosaurs and did not want to
eliminate them when they because a clear and immense threat to anyone on the park. Henry Wu on the
other hand, did not want to keep the dinosaurs the way they were. He wanted to make them seem more
amazing and improve them. Their ambition blinded them from important details about the dinosaurs.
Disaster would strike both them and the park. This clearly shows the reader how one should never

I considered Ian Malcolm to be my personal favorite character. He was the one who proposed that the
park would not succeed due to his proposed chaos theory. Based on what Henry Wu and the other
workers had told them, nobody expected anything to go wrong as they had supposedly taken every
precaution possible. He, however, knew from the very beginning that it would not work out that way.
He showed no shock at they way that everything would turn out. Each iteration began with a quote
from him telling the readers about the steps of the chaos theory foreshadowing what was about to
happen. His personality and sarcasm made him even more interesting as a character. Him, as almost
every section of the novel were not boring, but instead interesting enough to keep me reading it. I

of this theory was related to all of life. This states that evolution changes occur after vary generations

disadvantages would occasionally die out from offspring to offspring. Charles helped us think about

August 11 3:33 A.M. I am very excited because I know I will see Brock soon, but there is no sign of

around. Just the sight of him made my heart happy and my life feel complete. I have not been happy in
this life without him, and I wish there was a way I could join him. Perhaps! I will bury myself in his

Brock than anyone else. I laid in his grave and took my knife. Now, I do not know where I will be

14. Plato s Republic, And His Sun Analogy
In this essay I will attempt to illustrate the role of the Form of the Good in regards to other Forms and
knowledge as the highest form, and a unifying force. Particular emphasis will be placed on Socrates
discussion of it in The Republic, and his sun analogy. I will argue that its epistemological role is
perhaps most convincing, as the other two fall to a number of criticisms. Other criticisms will be
offered, including how vague the theory is, and those offered by Aristotle in particular. The Form of
the Good is notoriously ambiguous, in that it is difficult to pin down precisely what it is. In Plato s
Republic, through the character of Socrates, we see an attempt to describe what the Form of the Good
is, or, at the very least, some general idea of its nature. After stating that philosophers make the best
rulers to his interlocutor, Glaucon, he establishes the way to distinguish philosophers from non
philosophers. Philosophers can pick out non sensible properties of a Form (eg beauty), as opposed to
the non sensible particulars of a thing (such as a beautiful vase). However, Socrates makes it clear that
the most important thing for a philosopher king is the knowledge of the Form of the Good. While
there are many other Forms, the Good is ultimately superlative in that it is the highest or most
superior. Socrates states that it has three key roles. An:
Ontological role: all other things become useful and advantageous only by their use of the Form of the
Good

Impact of Industrialization on American Society

HISTORY 1312 701: United Stated History II
September 11, 2017
During late 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century, the United States went through rapid
industrialization that drastically changed many aspects of its society. During this era, the United States
became the leading industrial capitalist of the world . This also led to tremendous increase in demand
for the working class Americans. Also, advancement in farm machinery led to less need for manual
labors in farms and rural areas. Thus, these rural workers began to migrate to the urban areas to seek
job opportunities in industries such as manufacturing and other factory jobs. This influx of ... Show

For this reason, many workers opted to have their children and wives join the workforce. Given that
these factory owners had no legal restrictions on exploiting workers, they exploited most of their
workers. Worker were force to work long hours in a dehumanizing environment while earning poor
pay and incentives . Women and children were also exploited. Woman and children were paid the
lowest possible wages. It didn t matter if they worked more than their adult male counterparts.
Management used the deceptive ideology that woman and children should be under the care of a man
and do not require a living wage. In addition to low wages and long hours, many workers worked in a
dangerous environment. Many worked in crowded and unsanitary conditions. As a result thousands of
workers were injured and hundreds were killed each year .
Also, Industrialization resulted to the revolt of the working class Americans. As many workers became
more concern about their working conditions and pay, they decided to join together to rebel against
hash working conditions. As many industrial workers began to organize, this led to the formation of
labor unions. The goal of these unions was to protect worker s right to fair pay, hours, and working
conditions. Labor groups like the National Labor Union (NLU) and Knights of Labor began to open
up their membership to all labors, including male, female, blacks, and whites. Labors were able to

(PL) spectroscopy were used to characterize the prepared nanocomposites. Optical absorption
coefficient studies showed a peak at 427 nm for all samples, in addition to the peak at 200 nm for
undoped PVA film. There is observable change in the absorbed intensity at 427 nm with the time of
reaction. The refractive index was found increase with increasing the time of reaction. It was found

19. Guns Are Used For Self Defense Essay
Guns are used for Self Defense less than 1% of the time
Looking at data over a seventeen year time period (1992 through 2005 and 2007 through 2011), there
were over 192 million violent crimes committed in the United States. Of those crimes, the victims
chose to use a gun as a self defensive measure to threaten or attack their offender over 1.3 million
times. Over this time period, a gun was used as a form of self defense to threaten or attack an offender
0.7% of the time. Of those 0.7% that used a gun, 0.3% resulted in a justifiable homicide of the
offender.
The idea of using a gun for self defense is a pervasive one. The often cited number is that Americans
use a gun as a defensive or self protection measure 2.2 to 2.5 million times per year (Kleck and Gertz,
1995). However, this number and other high estimates have been scrutinized for their validity. If the
2.5 million number were true, that would mean close to 1 in 4 people would have actively used a gun
for self defense. Does that seem plausible? The Cato Institute s report Tough Targets (Cramer and
Burnett, 2012), a pro gun study, even acknowledges that some studies exaggerate the use of guns to
the point of statistical impossibility. They also mention underreporting, including the datasets used to
produce the numbers you see here. Oddly enough, their study produced no numerical rates of gun use
for self defense.

Words like bitch , whore chicks or cunt are seen as generalizing terms for women, used to degrade
their status within in the series and thereof for women in real life. This assumption might be
conceivable, as most women in the TV show are far from using comparable phrases to describe men.
There are simply less words which would have the same descriptive and generalizing effect as the
above mentioned terms used for women. However, women in South Park are not expelled from using
derogatory and vulgar language. Robin Lakoff wrote in his book Language and Woman´s Place that
little girls should not use rough language like boys because this would not enhance their status and
prestige among men within the patriarchal system. In fact it would expose females to ridicule and
ostracising (5). Within this scope South Park makes a feminist stand in Tom s Rhinoplasty (episode 11
of the first season). When Wendy Testaburger is, driven by jealousy to the new class teacher Ms Ellen

careers. In chapter 2 A Short History of Career Confusion is from How to Find Fulfilling Work by
Roman Krznaric, the author argues that finding the meaningful career is challenging because people
have too much choice now. Some people are stuck in jobs that they do not like. Others spend a long

Nowadays, some people do not like their work even complain bitterly, who find their work for earning
money. They feel frustrated that they spend lots of time dealing with dull emails or marketing products
they do not really like. In Rethinking Work , author Barry Schwartz writes, Today, in factories, offices
and other workplaces, the details may be different but the overall situation is the same: Work is
structured on the assumption that we do it only because we have to (1). Some people make a
difference. In How To Find Fulfilling Work, the moral philosopher Peter Singer writes, He argues that
our greatest hope for personal fulfillment is dedicating our lives and if possible our working
lives...especially an ethical one such as animal rights, poverty alleviation or environmental justice
(67). Make a difference is a good way to find a fulfilling career. Not only do people make a positive
contribution to people and society, but people also reflect their values. They can gradually sense day to
day the influence of their work upon an audience from their heart. For example, my dad is a bank
teller. Not only is he interested in finance, but he also likes to help others in need. That motivates him
to work well every day. Some people think that this job is repetitive and boring. However, my dad
enjoys it. He told me a meaningful experience. One day, an old man told my dad that he lost his pass
book. He felt so worried and had no idea what to do next. He almost cried and told my dad that the
pass book saved all money. Then my dad calmed down him and helped him find his pass book. He
tried his best to apply for a simple and quick way to solve the problem. Finally, and old man felt
grateful for my dad s help. Making a difference is necessary for us to reflect our values and help others
in need. It enriches our life experience. In addition, it enables us to make a difference to other people.

This political study will define the reemergence of nationalism due to the failed economic policies of
globalization in the Brexit EU Vote. The Brexit Vote defines the lack of economic security promised
by the European Union, which had dominated much of Britain s global objectives in the world
economy. However, the problematic banking issues of the European Central bank (ECB) and the
bankruptcy of certain nation states, such as Ireland, Greece, and Portugal, have inspired a new
nationalist movement in England to leave the EU. The Brexit Vote, held on June 23rd, 2016, defined a
powerful collective process in which 51.9% of the votes decided to lave the EU. This decision was
primarily based on reclaiming British nationalism to regain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

These political trends reveal the underlying trend in nationalism as part of the growing problem of
economic inequality, which was devastating the British economy for the greater masses of working
people. The lack of resolution for the economic recession brought about a public reaction to policies
related to nationalistic objectives, which were dominated by populist sentiment: At a time when so
many Europeans are faced with unemployment, uncertainty and growing inequality (200). Certainly,
the vote for Brexit defines the underlying re reemergence of nationalism as a political option in the
opposition of failed EU economic policies.
The Brexit Vote also defined a complex new set of nationalist principles, which were based on the
turning back the clock of racial identity in the pre EU global order. For instance, the re emergence of
nationalism was also being defined by a the Anglo Saxon purity of cultural and racial traditions, which
undermined the tensions behind the Brexit Vote. In this manner, the perception of job losses in
England also exacerbated racial tensions in relation to the immigration crisis across Europe. Many
British citizens felt that a lack of regulatory process in EU immigration policy threatened their job
security due to the lower wages being paid for immigrant worker:
But others suggest it was really a cultural divide that was revealed, rather than an economic one.

♦♦ Waiting On A Song
One of the hardest working musicians out there, Auerbach is always in the studio, playing shows, or
working with music in some kind of way. Between The Black Keys, The Arcs, and his solo projects,
he keeps very busy. In Waiting On A Song, Hardworking Dan describes how sometimes it can be
difficult to write songs when you re trying real hard to do so. He reflects throughout the song on how
the songwriting process has always come easier to him by just going through every day life and
paying attention to his surroundings.
Waiting On A Song encompasses a warm rhythm section that starts from the very first measure and
continues throughout the opening track. Overall, the words and instruments reflect movement,
contentedness, and peace of mind. It s a great driving song.
♦♦♦ Malibu Man
The winding, dissonant, country guitar that plays in the background is the perfect focus for the song.
When the preciseness of the orchestra joins in with the guitar on the chorus, the song really hits it s
strong point.
Livin In Sin
After hiding in the back of the mix for the first two songs, Auerbach comes up real close with the
vocal line on Livin In Sin. The bouncing rhythm section and distant guitar playing matched with
Auerbach s close up and personal vocals helps the listener drift off into a joyous and different world.

Downfall of Okonkwo and the Igbo Clan
Being manly can sometimes be good, but being too manly can lead to complications with family,
religion, and society. The author of Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe, portrays the protagonist
Okonkwo as a very manly and masculine man, as a result of his father s laziness and feminine nature.
He wished to acquire the noblest titles, and become a leader of the Igbo clan to show his success as a
man. Hiis short temper led him to beat his three wives and children, especially Nwoye, to make sure
he turned into a man who kept his women in check like himself. Chinua Achebe named the book

26. The Role Of The Nephilins In The Bible
The Bible reports the emergence of The Giants as the result of the sexual relationship between women
(daughters of men) and guardian angels (children of God) and from this relationship there would have
been hybrid beings of high stature and perversity never seen on the Face of the earth. These are the
Nephilins, the giants of biblical accounts.
How did they really come about? Who were the children of God? The search for these answers has
always led theologians of various epochs to try to understand this fact and supposed relationship
between angelic beings endowed with purely carnal desires and taken by voluptuousness, and women

The Book of I Enoch

described several events that led God to determine the end of humanity, for those had been so
rebellious against the sovereignty of God that the end had come for them.
In this account of I Enoch, angelic beings, the Guardian angels, here nominated as Watchers, who had
Semjaza as leader, were attracted by the beauty of the daughters of men and waking up among
themselves, they went down to the land to possess these women.

Abandoning the Puritan Past in Irving s The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
One of the first literary movements in America was that of the Puritans.
Their writing was intended to instruct on the glories of God and to instigate a reader s reflection on his
or her place in God s universe.
Nature, in Puritan writing, was a frightening entity. God created nature so that the Puritans (and others
less worthy) could scratch out a living in this world, but nature was also where spirits, witches, and
demons dwelt, waiting to tempt and afflict the righteous. Many years later, another American writer
came on the literary scene with a much different view of the methods, inspirations, and purposes of
writing. Washington ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He traveled around parts of the United States and came to the conclusion that while the land was
beautiful its beauty was not enough to feed the fancy of a writer. An artist, literary or otherwise,
needed the inspiration of the glories of mankind in ages past more than the simplicity of natural
beauty. Irving stated his feelings about the superiority of Europe over the United States, I visited
various parts of my own country; and had I been merely a lover of fine scenery, I should have felt little
desire to seek elsewhere its gratification,...never need an
American look beyond his own country for the sublime and beautiful of natural scenery. But Europe
held forth the charms of storied and poetical association. To escape, in short, the commonplace

minimizes violence and instability
The authors stated that the International community has failed to create an effective framework for

words, his stance was that yearning states require the recognition of most of the world s states to
authenticate their legitimacy; They need friends in high places.
The authors investigation started with a critique of the prevailing Domestic Level Explanations
offered by IR scholars, as the reason for the twentieth century flux in state birth. He ascertained that
this model relies on a bottom up causal mechanism which concentrates solely on local politics, thus
rendering it frail and anaemic. He emphasised the need for an Alternative Model
Thus, he ascertained that there is empirical evidence that supports his stance that the international
system is characterized as a social group. Thus, secessionist states could only gain recognition when
the existing states in the international community verifies their right to statehood.
Coggins adopted an objective approach in his analysis. He didn t totally refute the view that the
success of secessionist movements may hinge on domestic factors, but rather that domestic politics
only plays a little role. His stance was that the balance of forces, interests and recognition plays a
bigger role in determining the acceptance of a new state in the international community. The

33. The Relationship Between Marijuana And Depression
By: Tyler Thomas
The relationship between Cannabis sativa (marijuana) and depression has been a primary concern to
research scientists. However, the actual relationship remains double edged as different scholars have
made conflicting conclusions regarding the relationship. A focus has been on the cannabinoids, a
group of chemicals that confer the impacts of the plant on the users. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is
the main active pharmacological constituent of marijuana and the point of interest for the researchers
to discern the relationship between marijuana and depression in the users. In particular, studies try to
find the impact of THC on the cannabinoid receptor (CB) 1. The receptor is located in the peripheral
as well as the central nervous system. THC is an agonist of the CB1, which forms the point of
influence of the marijuana on the nervous system.
The primary concern of researchers is to understand the impact of marijuana on occurrence on
depression. Also, there should be an elaboration on how such an interaction increases or attenuates
depression in the users. Understanding the relationship between marijuana and depression in users will
be instrumental in diverse perspective. The use of marijuana may be promoted if anti depressive
impact is found. It may lead further research to explore the opportunity. Such may include
pharmacological modifications to treat depressed patients. Otherwise, a negative relationship would

Currently only 1 in 1,000 members took part in 1999 Posse ride. Repeating successful routes attracts
new riders who have heard stories from other HOG members. Using the same route leads to greater
efficiency and builds better relationship with dealers. We could also utilize the experience of existing
riders in ironing out rough patches on existing routes and building new routes. This would lead to
active participation from members in creating new rallies and increasing participation as well. We
need to follow up with Posse participants after the rally as well, rather than take a survey immediately
after the end of the rally, we should get feedback after 30 days. This would provide us with candid
refection and input for improvement with future rides. In order to negate the effect of overdose of
Posse Rides we should add some creative spontaneity to each event. This would provide the riders
with flair of expecting the unexpected. In order to understand and gel with the customer I recommend
increased involvement of employees in Posse rides. The involvement should not be from outside but
they should actually ride with HOG members and experience the same feeling. This would enable
employees to build lasting relationship and gather feedback from riders.

Is the United States addicted to air conditioning? The use of air conditioning within the United States
is higher than any other country As Badger has noted: We love our air conditioning in the U.S. The
amenity is more common in American homes 87 percent of us have either central air or window units .
This has resulted in Americans becoming addicted to air conditioning. Addiction can be caused from
always being around cooled homes, offices and cars. People start to get used to feeling the cool
temperatures instead of the hot weather. Before Americans realize it, living without air conditioning
becomes harder. Europeans do not use as much air conditioning; instead, they decide to tough it out
and deal with the hotter weather. This is important because as the world s energy is not 100%
environmentally friendly, pollution will increase from the higher demand for energy. As the damage to
the environment continues it could get to a point where the damage can be irreversible. Mainly the
damage is being done to the protective ozone layer in the atmosphere. The ozone layer helps the earth
block harmful ultraviolet rays, which can cause temperature rise and skin cancer to humans.
Americans should decrease the use of air conditioning because greener methods for cooling are
possible; the cool culture can be reversed, and adapting building regulations will help cool buildings
differently.
