Irony In Teenage Wasteland
Teenage Wasteland: The Importance of Misguided Youth How many struggling young adults will
decide to run away from home this year? According to ncsl.org One in seven young people between
the ages of 10 and 18 will run away . The shocking number of run away youth continues to grow
rapidly while parents and teachers efforts of keeping these adolescents on the right track fall far and
short. Looking into the world of Teenage Wasteland by renowned author Anne Tyler, readers dive into
the mindset of a mother emotionally drained trying to keep her son on the right path but, ultimately in
the end the boy runs away from home. Written as fiction, this story sadly becomes reality for many
families. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Youth can also understand from the point of view of a mother trying to help a son and perhaps reflect
on their own attitudes towards their own family. The key factor of irony sprawled through out Teenage
Wasteland plays another important part of why this should remain in curriculum. The development of
irony shows that sometimes even with proper adult help and guidance, It s never a sure solution to the
problem. The adult helpers in teenage wasteland attempt to give guidance, but in doing so they cause
more harm rather than good. While a grim lesson, an important lesson when growing up through life.
One key character representing the most irony through the story becomes introduced as Cal the tutor.
Cals affect on Donny leaves him to become more rebellious and resentful It s nice that Donny has a
tutor, but you should still be in charge of his homework. With you, he learned it. Then he passed his
tests. With the tutor, well, it seems the tutor is more of a crutch. (Tyler 191). The irony of a tutor
supposedly having the most positive influence on a young adult becomes the complete opposite.
Student s comprehend the idea of learning adults can possess a negative influence which makes it
important to learn not to rely or use adults

The Romanov s Revolutionary Attempt At Modernizing Russia
Russian Revolution We no longer have a Tsar. Today a river of blood divides him from the Russian
people. It is time for the Russian workers to begin the struggle for the people s freedom without him.
For today I give you my blessing. Tomorrow I shall be with you. Today I am busy working for our
cause . Russian Priest, Father Georgy Gapon, conveys his thoughts in a letter read at the meeting of
liberals, after the tragic petition of Bloody Sunday. The Romanov s dynasty attempt at modernizing
Russia led to the cause of their usurping. The changes they applied during their reigns resulted in
protests and uprisings of the peasants. The emancipation edict of 1891 created a great number of
unemployed civilians; as population was increasing during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Threatened by the event Bloody Sunday, Tsar Nicholas II faced the choice of military dictatorship or
granting a new constitution. In the end, he determined to write a new constitution called the October
Manifesto. Issued and signed by the Tsar, he promised to guarantee civil liberties as his last venture to
continue his family s history of unlimited autocracy. When the document was signed, it rested the
anger most Russian civilians had for their Tsar. Although, the public was not pleased when it came to
their attention that the Duma could not initiate legislation and Tsar would continuously dissolve the
Dumas when they opposed him. One can see the contrast between the Tsar s doing and his peoples
needs, even after protests. In conclusion, the indifference brought upon the monarchy s abdication and
advanced in the outcome of the Bolshevik

The Black Cat Meaning
Darkness lives within each of us. It lurks inside the deep, obscure abyss of our hearts. To escape the
judgment and belittlement of others, we conceal our true inner selves in which the iniquity hides. As
the storyteller states in The Black Cat , initially, he buried his mental monster underneath kindness and
humanity. In fact, the narrator declares, From my infancy I was noted for the docility and humanity of
my disposition. My tenderness of heart was even so conspicuous as to make me the jest of my
companions (Baym and Levine 718). However, through the instrumentality of the Fiend
Intemperance, also known as alcohol, he took on his naked being (719). He stripped himself of
tolerance and self control and took on anger and hatred for the ... Show more content on

However, this does not last long. In another burst of pure rage, the murderer attempts to strike the cat,
but his wife stops him, and his loyalty shifts as quickly as a flash of lightning. He withdrew [his] arm
from her grasp and buried the axe in her brain (723). Frankly, the narrator s wife seemed as if she was
most likely frail and withdrawn. Therefore, it was not as if she had the ability or inclination to attack
her husband in any way, so the narrator s immediate reaction was in no way self defense. In other
words, he had no reason to accidentally kill his innocent wife. Moreover, after the completion of the
deed, he did not immediately run to the police, yelling, I killed my wife! I killed my wife! He actually
deposited the body against the inner wall of a cellar (723)! Yet, in order to possess intent, one must
have a motive. Well, what exactly was the author s motive? Perhaps, his motive lay in the fact that he
wanted to be alone with no responsibilities and no morals. Although the passage does not directly state
this notion, it indicates that his wife stood on the foundation of right and wrong and that she
represented what he no longer had nor wanted morality.
Thus, to rid himself of something he had thrown away a long time ago, the narrator purposely
murdered his wife in The Black Cat . His

Themes Of Politics And Society In Persepolis By Marjane...
In the graphic novel Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, pivotal issues of politics, warfare, religion, family,
and femininity are vividly contented with through the humorous visual account of the main character s
process of hellacious coming of age, profound moral growth, and self actualization. Influenced by a
Westernized upbringing and inspired by her perceptions during the Islamic Revolution (1979) and the
Iran Iraq War (1980 1988), the author achieves to elaborate a piece of valuable art that explores and
appraises the voids and the connections between culturally different worlds. Although Satrapi s
masterpiece was published more than ten years ago, its themes and symbols retain paramount
applicability in contemporaneous society, providing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the graphic novel, the belief that the United States of America enhanced the Iran Iraq War justifies
Iran being ruled by religious fundamentalists and xenophobic of Westerners. The fact that the Reagan
Administration supported Saddam Hussein s attempt to annex Iranian territory with loans, military
equipment and satellite imagery led Iranian extremists to reinforce their mistrust in Western policies.
Ultimately, the lack of trust and confidence in Western intervention succumbed Iran into an
everlasting, extremist regime that insists in cultural ignorance, controls the media, promotes
misogyny, and employs death and fearmongering to influence the opinions and actions of a subdued
and continuously misunderstood population. Consequently, the instauration of such a radical
jurisdiction has further impact on the views of Middle Eastern culture and religion. As expressed by
Satrapi in her introduction to Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood, the wrongdoings of a few
extremists has caused this old and great civilization to be discussed mostly in connection with
fundamentalism, fanaticism, and terrorism , knowing, as in Iranian who has lived more than half her

Controversial Essay
How do we determine the worth of a life? Is each life valued uniquely? When it comes to life, where
do we draw the lines between sympathy and justice? Did you know? Every 25 minutes, a baby is born
suffering from opioid withdrawal. Do we punish drug addicted women giving birth to emotionally and
medically unstable babies; and if so, how? Many people also think that if we punish the women, than
the fathers of these children should be subsequently punished as well. This is a topic of controversy in

Lab Report Enzyme Activity
The enzyme lab was used to determine the different factors that could affect the productivity of an
enzyme. In the lab, the reaction between the hydrogen peroxide and the liver was an exothermic
reaction because the temperature of the test tube rose when the hydrogen peroxide was placed into the
liver. Heat is a form of energy and the temperature rose as the reaction progressed. In the test tube B,
the temperature rose from room temperature to around r30ºC showing that it was an exothermic
reaction. I think that the heat from the reactions of the enzymes inside my body keep my body warm
and prevent the environment of these enzymes from becoming too cold and the basic functions of the
body could not be carried out.
There are several factors that affect the productivity of the enzyme. First, the temperature is one of
them. When the liver in the lab was boiled, the enzymes were destroyed and nothing happened and
when the liver was placed into the ice bath, it had a lower reaction rate than the hotter temperatures.
On the other hand, when the temperature was around 37ºC, the enzymes were most effective and made
the largest reaction. pH also had an effect on the productivity of the enzymes. The enzymes in the liver
worked best at neutral pH. When the pH was more acidic or more basic, the enzyme s reaction was
less effective. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In each of the experiments that used dead cells, a reaction occurred and it shows that the catalase were
reacting the hydrogen peroxide. In all the tests that involved once living cells, the reaction occurred
and the hydrogen peroxide was split into water and oxygen. The catalase was not in the same quantity.
For example, the liver had a reaction rate of 3 and the apple had a reaction rate of 1. The liver had
more catalase than the apple because the hydrogen peroxide was broken down faster in the liver
meaning that there are more catalase breaking it

Arch Street Friends Meeting House Research Paper
Welcome to Arch street Friends Meeting house where you will explore the many wonder wonders of a
Quaker home. built between 1803 and 1804, Quakers would gather for weekly, monthly, and yearly
meetings to worship and speak with each other. Originally part of a loan from the King,(loan was
originally to Penn s father but, his father died before the King could give the loan to him) he gave
William Penn land who founded Pennsylvania with the land. William penn deeded land to the Quakers
in 1693 on which the building sits today. William Penn was originally Catholic, but then switched to
being a Quaker because he thought it could benefit him in other things. In 1718, William penn died of
a stroke. The land of this building served as a burial ground for people who died because of the Yellow

group leading up to what is now, the Arch Street Friends Meeting House. Quakers objected to paying
war taxes, promising loyalty, and taking arms. Most Quakers supported the war, but some thought that
their was no need for war. Quakers have an acronym that represents what Quakers believe in. Spices

War Economy Essay
War Economy The 20 year old Afghan conflict has created an open war economy, affecting
Afghanistan and surrounding areas. Not only has Afghanistan become the world s largest opium
producer and a center for arms dealing, but it supports a multi billion dollar trade in goods smuggled
from Dubai to Pakistan. This criminalized economy funds both the Taliban and their adversaries. It has
transformed social relations and weakened states and legal economies throughout the region.
Sustainable peace will require not just an end to fighting and a political agreement but a regional
economic transformation that provides alternative forms of livelihood and promotes accountability.
The pursuit of politics through both peaceful and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Transformation of this criminalized war economy is thus essential not only to Afghanistan but to
neighboring regions. The economic and political stability of Pakistan, in particular, is threatened by
phenomena associated with the political economy of war in Afghanistan, but the phenomena also
reach into Iran, the Arab states of the Persian Gulf, and Central Asia, and, through the drug trade, into
Russia, Europe, and North America.
The pre war society of Afghanistan cannot be reconstructed, but today s structures developed from
transformations of that fragile and fragmented society. Furthermore, in the event that political
conditions permit an attempt at reconstruction, an understanding of prewar social, economic, and
political relations is necessary if Afghans and international actors are to avoid replicating or even
magnifying dysfunctional features of the system that proved so vulnerable to external intervention and
institutional collapse (Rubin, 1995a).
In the 1970s Afghanistan had an economy and society bifurcated between a rural, largely subsistence
economy and an urban economy dependent

Solar Temple Cults
Many cults in the world exist some are good and others are unpleasant. Some of the cults join together
to do good things such as meeting people and bonding with those of the same religions and
expressions as yourself. There are also; bad cults that have killed many people and even some cults
have killed even their own members although, there is not a lot of cults that have committed suicide to
end their own cult like the Order of the Solar Temple had done. The Order of the Solar Temple was a
great example of mob mentality. They all believed in the same things, acted upon and did things
together that they would probably not have done if they were acting alone. The Solar Temple cult was
created in 1984 by a guy named Luc Journet. The cult was created when another cult called the
Knights Temple split which created the Solar Temple. The cult was mostly known for the mass suicide
as well as the murder of 74 of its members which occurred between the years of 1994 1997. The Solar
Temple cult believed that the earth would face a horrible, catastrophic event in the 1990 s ( Order Of
The Solar Temple 1). They believed that it was good to get on a higher spiritual level before this
horrible event happens and they decease. The Solar Temple cult was very secretive, they kept their
actions and beliefs as much of a secret as they could. To become a member of the Solar Temple cult
you had to keep everything a secret that you learn from the cult, because the cult is all about being

Their Eyes Were Watching God Essay
I enjoyed Their Eyes Were Watching God s grasp on imagination, imagery and phrasing. Janie s
dialogue and vernacular managed to carry me along, slipping pieces of wisdom to me in such a
manner that I hardly realize they are ingesting something deep and true. Their Eyes Were Watching
God recognizes that there are problems to the human condition, such as the need to possess, the fear of
the unknown and resulting stagnation. The book does not leave us with the hopelessness of Fitzgerald
or Hemingway, rather, it extends a recognition and understanding of humanity s need to escape
emptiness. quot;Dem meatskins is got tuh rattle tuh make out they s alive (183) quot; Her solution is

All in all, wealth does not bring happiness, and Janie shares that sad realization with Fitzgerald s Dick

Frog And Toad
As I was reading through the different theories of language, I found myself relating to all of them in
some aspect. However, I relate mostly with the constructivist theory and have seen the benefits of this
theory play out in my own classroom.
My first year of teaching was at an international school in South Korea. The curriculum was based
mainly around rote memorization and testing. The students in my third grade class were required to
use basal readers and take weekly tests based on vocabulary and comprehension. Some students did
well and others struggled, especially students who were English language learners. What the tests did
not show was how well the students learned and comprehended when we did free or partner reading.

One topic of conversation that arose was about the animals, insects, reptiles and amphibians that
inhabit the rainforest. My students at the time were very drawn to frogs so during a reading lesson
about character traits I chose the book Frog and Toad Together by Arnold Lobel. In this short chapter
book Frog and Toad are best friends who enjoy different adventures together. It is a wonderful
example of friendship and loyalty. For this particular lesson students were analyzing their character
traits. As I was observing and participating in discussions around the classroom, I realized that many
of the students were wondering about the difference between a frog and toad and wondering if the
characters in the book reflected these differences. These insights made me realize that we should shift
the focus and research these differences. I contacted the librarian and he suggested I read them All
About Frogs by Jim Arnosky. Thus I choose this book as my expository example. This book provided
a wealth of information and vivid illustrations about different types of frogs and toads. The students
were extremely engaged in learning more about frogs and using this information to draw conclusions
about the fictional characters in Frog and Toad Together by Arnold Lobel. My students took the
initiative to learn and explore with very little push from me. It was one of my most memorable

A Point Of Return In Nietzsche s Groundhog Day
1. Tanksley reports about her young life up to this point that if I had to do it all over again, I wouldn t
change a thing. Can you use this as a point of departure for o Defining Nietzsche s eternal return and
showing how it works?
1. Nietzsche´s eternal return is similar to the 1993 film Groundhog Day where a news reporter got
stuck into a time loop reliving the same day over and over until breaking the loop. The contrast here,
however, is the film focusing on the reporter´s unhappiness of reliving the same day everyday,
whereas Nietzsche philosophized that every decision and action made would be the setup to be relived
from the changing point when it all began; the cycle would be repeated when the person dies and then
is immediately reborn into the point of change. In terms of the film Groundhog Day, the main
character died at the end of each day to be reborn at the point his alarm clock went off in the morning.
(Faust, 2012) o Characterizing Tanksley s professional life as one fit for approval by Nietzsche s
eternal return?
1. In Tanksley´s case, she believes that she has found her principle passion for life and would be
content to repeat it lifetime after lifetime. For her, it is what fuels her to live. In Nietzsche´s law of the
eternal return, each re lived life is an exact copy of the original without being changed in other words,
living in an unknown time loop or stuck in a rut . Tanksley states that she would be perfectly happy to
repeat (be reborn) as

Tax Benefits Of The Tax
Under the tax law, certain tax benefits can significantly reduce a taxpayer s regular tax amount. The
alternative minimum tax (AMT) applies to taxpayers with high income by setting a limit on those
benefits. It helps to ensure that those taxpayers pay at least a minimum amount of tax. The AMT is the
excess of the tentative minimum tax over the regular tax. Therefore, the AMT is owed only if the
tentative minimum tax is greater than the regular tax. The tentative minimum tax is figured separately
from the regular tax. In general, compute the tentative minimum tax by:
1. Computing taxable income eliminating or reducing certain exclusions and deductions, and taking
into account differences with respect to when certain items are taken into account in computing
regular taxable income and alternative minimum taxable income (AMTI)
2. Subtracting the AMT exemption amount
3. Multiplying the amount computed in (2) by the appropriate AMT tax rates
4. Subtracting the AMT foreign tax credit (IRS.gov, 2016) (p. 1)
The federal tax law sets the AMT exemption amounts and AMT tax rates. Taxpayers can use the
special capital gain rates in effect for the regular tax if they are lower than the AMT tax rates that
would otherwise apply. Some tax credits that reduce regular tax liability do not reduce AMT tax
liability. If a taxpayer is not liable for AMT this year, but he or she paid AMT in one or more previous
years, they may be eligible to take a special minimum tax credit against their

My Experience With Attending An Elite
My Experience with Attending an A.A. and Alanon Meeting As a part of our class assignment we were
presented with the idea of attending an A.A. and an Alanon meeting. After attending these meetings, I
found that they were more interesting than I could have imagined. I am not quite sure what I expected,
but the environment held a serene spirit that I normally encounter at church. I attributed this fact, to
the point that the name of God was called on often and the people were singing his praises. Observing
and listening to how people referenced or acknowledged his presence helped them to refrain from
drinking was just awesome. In this paper, I will describe the environment where the meeting took
place, how the meeting was brought to order and its format, and the insight it provided me being a
future counselor who will have to make referrals. I participated in an AA and an Alanon meeting this
week at the 623 club in Belleville, IL. I was privy to attending the Alanon meeting first due to the
nature of my schedule. The facility where the meeting was held looked like a restaurant. I say that
because it was set up like an eating establishment with tables and chairs throughout the room
accordingly. A lady who was a part of the meeting supplied drinks, such as water, tea, soda and coffee
from where she stood behind a counter. Nevertheless, the meeting itself took place at the center table
and it was about thirteen of us on that day. I was a few minutes late and

Americans Should Eat Healthy Foods Essay
Americans Should Eat Healthy Foods The overall health of the nation should concern every American
within the United States. The populous has acquired a bad habit of turning to convenience foods
because of availability, taste and comfort. Thus to re direct the health of the nation, people need to
stop crippling their health by convenience foods and replace it with healthy, natural choices, otherwise
the health of all will continue to decline. The body responds differently to food types, either healthy or
convenience, and determines the mood and daily productivity of an individual. According to Donald

On an average, large amount of fast foods consumed on a daily basis, leads to the deterioration of an
individuals bodily health over time. Consuming more fruits, vegetables and healthy foods, will
increase the life expectancy of most individuals. According to Donald D. Hensrud of the Mayo Clinic
on Healthy Weight, Eating well choosing a plant based diet, which emphasizes vegetables, fruits and
whole grains also will reduce your risks of some of our nation s biggest killers and related conditions.
Many cancers, heart disease and high blood pressure, among other conditions, are linked to diet, most
notably to diets high in fat and saturated fat. Even without weight loss, adopting a healthier eating
style can be beneficial. (Hensrud 49) The majority of Americans give the argument that healthy food
takes up too much time. They state that they do not have enough time to prepare healthy meals with a
busy schedule, whereas convenience foods are easily squeezed into a day. This common
misconception often inhibits the populous from exerting any energy toward trying to accommodate a
healthier lifestyle. As Hensrud states, Cooking healthfully is not difficult to do, but it may involve
rethinking your approach. (Hensrud 49) Just a little prior preparation cuts time and effort in a tight
schedule and healthy foods generally taste much better than foods from the local convenience
restaurant. When going the healthy route, many choices

Expense of the Iran-Iraq War
Costing up to $1,000,000,000 monthly and possible over $300,000,000,000 in material terms
(Swearingen, 1988) over the course of the conflict, the Iran Iraq War was at face value, an attempt by
Iraq to compel Iran to recognize Iraq s territorial rights and to renegotiate the 1975 treaty. Initially,
Iraq seemed to have either no clearly formulated strategic goals or had fallen short of them the first
reaction one would have when hearing that Iraq called for a cease fire 6 days in and issued a set of
demands which included a renegotiation of the treaty, return of the islands to the UAE and the non
participation and non interaction of Iran within the Gulf community.
Most see Iraq coming out of the war as more powerful in absolute power terms but not in relation to
the rising power of its neighbours (Parasiliti, 2003, p. 160). According to Parasilati (2003) Iraq s
reliance on its economic strategic rents the billions of loans and grants given by the West and other
Arab Gulf states undercut its power relative to its neighbours. Even though it may seem like Iraq hadn
t lost territorially, its bid for power failed and dropped it deeper into debt. In addition, the only positive
aspect of the war was the slight increase in the national pride amongst Iraqis but none of the important
geopolitical issues were addressed.
There was no change in the 1975 agreement over the Shatt al Arab waterway (Bahadori, 2005, p. 3)
nor was Iraq the pre dominant power in the Gulf.

how everyone in the network marking industry is successful. However, I will tell you that, anyone in
network marketing can be successful. Not everyone who has attempted to succeed in network
marketing has done so. Do you know why? Not everyone has the drive, determination, patience and
confidence that it takes to make it in network marketing. I will tell you first and foremost, most
companies will ask you to make a list of all of your friends and family, and try to promote your
product to them first. This can give you the opportunity to test your sales skills. However, not all of
your friends and family will not see the value in what you have to offer. Why? It is not because you do
not have the skills to market your products and services to them. It is because the majority of your
friends and family tend to always assume the worst about new business ventures; especially network
marketing. Maybe they have tried it themselves and failed miserably. Instead of just admitting that
they did not have the above mentioned skills ( drive, determination, patience and confidence) to
survive in network marketing themselves, they would rather discourage you instead. Stay Positive I
am not trying to tell you that, talking to your friends and family is a terrible idea. I am only stating the
obvious. If you have already tried this approach than you know what I mean. I am saying,

Political Philosophy, By Steven Cahn
In Steven Cahn s book, Political Philosophy, The Essential Texts, philosophers such as Socrates, Plato,
Aristotle, Hobbes, Locke and Rousseau created the circumstances to enable the fundamental
principals of philosophy and politics. These knowledgeable, astute and significant men have helped to
achieve the structure of our past and present democracy as well as a plan of action for the rights and
values that we as citizens can all relate to today. They are grounded in their thinking and tied together
as a whole in ideas and practices of politics, philosophy and humankind. Possessors of morals and
ethics reflected in their works have influenced current social interaction and the foundation of our
current practice of democracy in which we have relied upon this present day. For over a hundred
years, theorists have deliberated the nature of our species and the method of governing appropriately
to warrant the Commonwealth. Today in politics there is a palpable disunion about the useful role of
system and a sharp division regarding human nature.
The role of government and society s role individually had been critical topics of the philosophers.
Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle had their thoughts on the subject of fairness and the government.
Socrates was convinced that democracy was not a sensible form of government, in his opinion, the
electorate of the people was rough justice. Plato alleged that government ought only to have rulers

Porter s Five Forces Of Competition Model In The Airline...
2.1 Industry environment
The industry analysis can be performed by evaluating the ability of all firms to operate profitably
within the airline industry. Porter s five forces of competition model is a perfect tool to perform such
analysis. The threat of new entrants is moderately high since President Carter signed the Airline
Deregulation Act in 1978, removing U.S Federal Government control over fares, routes and market
entry. Therefore, the industry has become less regulated and allowed many new firms to enter the
market. Thus, the airline industry requires a lot of capital investments which can disinterest some
investors. The bargaining power of buyers rests in the hands of the customers by reducing the price or
by asking greater levels of service. It is highly powerful because customers can easily switch to
another airline or even another transportation method. They also have the option to deal with a travel
agencies that will recommend the best airline according to their needs. The bargaining power of
suppliers is high because it is dominated by few large companies. Airbus and Boeing are two
manufacturers that have both created a duopoly for the past 15 years in the supply of aircraft (business
insider, 2017). The threat of substitute is very high, especially in short haul. There are many
alternatives to air travel such as driving, taking the train or the bus. The intensity of rivalry among
competitors is also high because there are numerous competitors selling a

Big Home Advantage By Deion Sanders Texas Size Mansion
The elite NFL athletes in the United States get paid far too much. There are multiple examples of
rhetorical tools found throughout this article. Deion Sanders Texas size mansion deals with the context
and the audience deals with NFL and MLB fans. The uses of facts and statistics is highly used
throughout this entire article. In Big home advantage: Deion Sanders Texas size mansion is just big
enough to contain his family, his faith and his heart, Shirley Henderson argues that NFL Athletes make
way too much money, using effective strategies of pathos, concessions, and statistics to support her
argument; while these strategies are effective, the author does not consider irony to enhance the appeal
of the argument for her audience. Shirley Henderson, a publisher and Scottish actress has been active
since 1987 and is still present today. She is best known for her film roles as Gail in Transporting in
1996, Jude in Bridget Jones s Diary in 2001, Moaning Myrtle in Harry Potter in and the Chamber of
Secrets in 2002, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in, 2005. In 2014, she received a BAFTA TV

featured most recently as Frances Drummond in the BBC drama Happy Valley in 2016. She is now
filming in Okja, which is coming out in 2017. Throughout the article, Henderson uses multiple
examples of pathos to support her main claim in the article. The readers get a good idea on how

Gender Stereotypes In Children
At a very young age children are labeled on what it means to be a male and female based on their
gender. This labeling is taught, but also it is something we as humans pick up on. Most of the time
infants start to categorize gender by three months and are fully developed by one and half to two years
old, and labeling by eighteen to twenty months (Hunt, 2016). At about two to three years old they start
to develop the knowledge of roles of men and women hypothetically and start to stereotype men and
women (Hunt, 2016). With the influences such as kid s toys and TV shows it further reinforces what
women and men should do. They develop an ignorance towards gender, and by playing with and
watching gendered things they are learning a misinterpretation ... Show more content on

strong female character like Lt. Judy Hopps be found in the boys section, but not in the girl section for

Eva Smith In J. B. Priestley s An Inspector Calls
Inspector calls is a play written by the author J.B priestly. Set in 1912, but performed in 1945, after 2
world wars, this play evolves around the suicide of a pregnant working class girl whose name is Eva
smith. An inspector by the name of Goole, questions the involvement of a family business with the
name Birling.Co and its upper class owners. Priestly, being a socialist, writes this play to prevent a
social divide between classes. I believe Eva Smith is the most important character in AIC even though
she never appears during the play. Priestly uses her as a metaphor for socialism and the working class,
catalyst for responsibility and highlights the corruption of men.

smoking cigars, drinking Port and wearing suits and dresses, even though it s their own home, and to
top it all off, they have their own maid, Edna. This instantly tells the audience the Birlings are wealthy
and privileged. Throughout the play it becomes clear that Mr Birling doesn t not agree with

Classical vocal improvised music has some, while composed, metric pieces with ceremonial
implications, such as the pishdaramad, are definitely musiqi but lack the full range of objectionable
characteristics suggested in pieces with a primarily virtuoso intent, such as the chahar mezrab, or of
Westernized music, to say nothing of absolutely secular music such as night club performances. All of
this suggests that, in contemporary urban Iran, the sounds that might be considered to be simply music
in Western culture might be regarded as music, but to varying degrees.
The dominant sounds in Iran are the metallic and clear sounds. Persian classical music has free form
which can be measured or not and is open to improvisation (âvâz/ chahârmezrâb). Moreover, from one
maqâm (system of melodic modes) to another, all the melodies resemble each other, differing mainly
by their scale. It is an ingenuous imitation technique, which has been developed by the Central Asian
masters. The musical form has no rules. Styles vary from calls at a measured pace on a single note, or
within a narrow range centred on one note, to richly melismatic chants with a wide range. Rhythmic
structure is influenced by the length of the syllables in the text. Textual repetition often leads to
repeated musical phrases differing only in their final note. Unusually,

Similarities And Differences Between Heart Of Darkness And...
The movie Apocalypse Now is inspired by Joseph Conrad s novel Heart of Darkness. Due to this, the
majority of the film is based upon the book, in terms of plot, theme, characters, and setting. The
differences between the two works arise in the modern interpretation taken by Apocalypse Now, and
the presentation of Heart of Darkness themes through current events. Both Apocalypse Now (AN) and
Heart of Darkness (HOD) take place within four main settings, with the same overall plot. In HOD,
these settings are Brussels, the Central Station, the steamboat on the river, and Kurtz s compound. In
AN, the initial settings are instead a meeting room with officers and a military base, before becoming
a steamboat on the river, and Kurtz s compound. The initial settings both serve the same role: to
present the main character with their job, and to give them the means and transportation to complete it.
Both works have the jungle as the overall and main setting. Though set in Vietnam and the Congo
respectively, both jungles are presented as dark and savage the entryway into the unknown. In both
cases, the jungle is not initially seen as dangerous it is simply the environment, a means to an end. In
AN, it is not until Chef and Willard journey into the jungle in search of mangoes that this illusion is
disrupted. The men are suddenly attacked by a tiger, and begin a frantic rush to escape back to the
boat. After the experience, several of the men promise to stay on the boat, as the boat

Theme Of Autolycus In The Winter s Tale
Shakespeare, in The Winter s Tale, invents Autolycus as an implementer of satire, playing a
fundamental function in the context of the play as the counterpoint, however playful, to the first act.
Furthermore, Autolycus serves as the chief instrument for the introduction and advancement of
comedic themes and acts of trickery as a rogue, thief and master of masks. Therefore, as the
implementer of satire, Autolycus furnishes as a crucial counterpoint to the play, which warrants his
significance in relation to the play in its entity. As the passage of time marks its quick ascent, the
sudden shift from winter to spring and youth into age is marked by the passage of Autolycus as he
enters the play singing. When the daffodils begin to peer, with heigh, the doxy over the dale, why, then
comes in the sweet o the year, for the red blood reigns in the winter pale (Act IV, Scene 3, Lines 1 4).
Autolycus not only signals the shift from tragedy to comedy, but emphasizes the juxtaposition from
winter to spring; a time of rebirth. Therefore, Autolycus serves as the epitome of transformations as
the play sharply diverges from the common, albeit serious, tales of tragedy to a shift of miraculous
harmony. Moreover, Autolycus continues to contradict the social hierarchies, according to historical
sources, placed during Shakespearean period as well as the characters. Autolycus stated, I have served

Payday Loan Loans Are A Good Option
But sometimes there are unforeseen financial circumstances. Paydays loans are a good option to
consider. Keep these tips in mind when thinking about getting a payday loan.
People should only use a payday loan as their last resort. Loans carry very high interest rates which
actually have you paying close to 25 percent of the initial amount of the loan. Prior to securing a
payday loan, investigate your options. A simple method to find reputable payday loan lenders to to
look on websites that review them. You can get information on which companies are trustworthy and
which ones have shady practices that you should avoid. If set on getting payday loans, review all
information before signing a contract. There are scams that are set up to offer a subscription that you
may or may not want, and take the money right out of your bank checks account without your
knowledge. Do not get involved in a never ending vicious cycle. You should never get a payday loan
to get the money to pay the note on another one. Do everything you can to get out of this cycle. It is
very easy to fall into this trap if you don t take steps to prevent it. The costs can spiral out of control
quickly and leave you broke.
Be sure you have a clear understanding of payment due dates. Loans have high rates when it comes to
their interest rates, and these companies often charge fees from late payments. It is imperative that
these types of loans are paid on time. It s even better to do so prior to the day they

Taking a Look at Conflict Resolution
To manage these conflict styles; avoidance, accommodation, aggression, and collaboration
management styles are used. Roommates use these styles when dealing with conflict. The style they
choose relates to how they will use text messaging in conflict and how they would like their face to be
perceived by the individual involved in the conflict. When a roommate chooses avoidance they are
pretending the conflict does not exist and will avoid any form of communication for fear of their face
being perceived negatively. We see an explanation of this from Erving Goffman where he proposed an
idea of facework as a social performance where we are all actors. He offered a cooperative principle
where people agree to support each other s performance or face. To not support each other s face is to
disrupt the entire scene, because no one can continue in performance when others are embarrassed or
shamed (Cupach Metts, 1994). Based on the conflict modes of Thomas and Kilmann, there are five
styles of conflict management: avoiding, accommodating, collaborating, competing and
compromising. Accommodation happens when a person attempts to satisfy the other person s concerns
at the expense of their own, Avoiding is where a person sidesteps the conflict without trying to satisfy
either person s concern, Compromising is when the person partially satisfies both people s concerns,
Collaborating is when a person tries to find a win win solution that satisfies both people s concerns,
and Competing

Factors Of Favor Of The Argument Essay
Module 2 Assignment 2: Factors in Favor of and Against
Name: Kellie Runyon
Topic: Universal health care: Governmental provision of free health care for all citizens.
Part 1: Matrix
Strength of the Argument
(1 strongest,
6 weakest)
Reasons for
Reasons Against
1
Universal health care would be affordable for everyone
Millions of people would save money with universal healthcare due to everyone paying an equal
amount; whether it be through tax increase or some other form. However, it will amount to less money
than those who are paying for healthcare now due to the fact that every citizen pays for it and not only
the people who can afford the raising prices.
Tax Increases to cover the healthcare change.
2
Public health would improve with universal health care
All citizens will have unlimited access to the medical professionals. Many people that cannot afford
insurance will now have unlimited opportunities to get annual exams and help to prevent major health
issues from going unseen.
With an increase in the amount of people needing/wanting medical treatment, there will be a shortage
of medical staff. This will cause longer wait times, limited resources, as well as not having enough
doctors and specialists to meet the demand.
3
The cost of healthcare would be lower for the US when expenses are prioritized.
Other countries that provided universal health care spend half as much as the US does with the amount
of people who currently have health insurance. The US is

Self Evaluation Motivates Performance Essay
Self Evaluation Motivates Performance
To demonstrate that the potential for self evaluation can motivate performance, the potential for
evaluation by external sources must be eliminated. As Bandura (1986) writes, When environmental
constraints are reduced, the influence of self evaluative motivators becomes most self evident (p. 479).
Thus, to determine whether the self evaluative concerns suggested by social comparison theory
motivate performance, one must ensure that people feel that they cannot be individually evaluated by
an externalsource. Such control of external evaluation is made possible through the use of the social
loafing paradigm (e.g., Latane, Williams, Harkins, 1979).
Social loafing refers to the finding that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Szy@ manski and Harkins (1987) did exactly this in an experiment in which they asked participants to
generate as many uses as they could (i.e., do your best instructions) for a common object, regardless of
the creativity of those uses. Pilot work with this task showed that participants felt that they knew how
many uses they had generated (their output). Therefore, to manipulate the potential for self evaluation,
Szymanski and Harkins either provided an evaluative criterion by telling participants that at the end of
the session they would be told the average number of uses generated by participants in a previous
version of the experiment, or Szymanksi and Harkins withheld the criterion by telling participants that
to preserve confidentiality they would not be given this information. When the participants were
provided with the evaluative criterion, they had an opportunity for selfevaluation by social
comparison. This manipulation of the potential for self evaluation was crossed with a manipulation of
the potential for experimenter evaluation. Half of the participants were told that at the end of the
session, the experimenter would come in and count the number of uses that they had generated
(experimenter evaluation), whereas the other half of the participants were told that the experimenter
was interested in average performance so their individual outputs would be pooled with those of

Analysis Of Sir Bedivere And Le Morte DArthur
Knights in Medieval times were highly regarded by others; they were expected to be chivalrous and
embody the knightly virtues. The ideal knight was merciful, honorable, and noble. These three
important virtues of a knight were clearly embodied by Sir Lancelot in Le Morte d Arthur by Sir
Thomas Malory. Sir Lancelot outshined Sir Bedivere, Sir Modred, and King Arthur as a knight
because he expressed the knightly virtues more than the others. Sir Lancelot proved to be merciful,
honorable, and noble through his words and actions and the words and actions of other knights.
Therefore, Sir Lancelot is the most virtuous knight because he greatly embodies mercy, honor, and
nobility. While King Arthur seems to never show mercy to his opponents, Sir Lancelot proves from
the beginning of Le Morte d Arthur that he is merciful. It is clear that in battles, Sir Lancelot values
the code of chivalry, leading to him showing mercy to his opponents. In an encounter with Sir
Gawain, Gawain continually antagonizes Sir Lancelot. He responds to Sir Gawain s threats by saying
Sir Gawain, I have once spared your life... (Malory 131). Sir Lancelot was merciful towards Sir
Gawain by not killing him during their first encounter. The fact that Sir Gawain continually insulted
him made it increasingly harder for Sir Lancelot to show him mercy, yet he was still able to compose
himself. Even in the face of his own death, Sir Lancelot was able to show Sir Gawain mercy. By doing
so, he continued to risk his own life. In contrast to Sir Lancelot, King Arthur was not merciful towards
his opponents, even when they were his own son. During a final battle against Sir Modred and his
army, King Arthur saw all the casualties of his own men. One of his knights, Sir Lucas, begged Arthur
to spare Modred and wait until a later time to battle him. In spite of these pleas, King Arthur stated I
care nothing for my life now! And while Sir Modred is at large I must kill him: there may not be
another chance (Malory 310 311). King Arthur was determined, no matter the outcome, to kill Sir
Modred. He ignored his knight s pleas and showed no mercy to Modred. His desire to kill Modred was
unwavering and his mind could not be changed. In contrast to Sir Lancelot,

Illegal Aliens Essay
Beware! America is being invaded by aliens! Not the little, green, Martian type you see in science
fiction movies, but the real thing. I m talking about the illegal type who come in every day and every
night, by land and by sea. Estimates have shown that as many as 500,000 illegal aliens make it across
the border every year (Morganthau 67). Illegal immigration causes many problems in the United
States, including economic problems, crime, education disputes, and overcrowding. All of these
problems were already damaging our country and illegal immigration has made them much, much
worse. Let me begin to explain the problem with a story. A woman named Xiomara T. escaped
Nicaragua in 1991 to escape the violence afflicting her country (Jost, ... Show more content on

If there were no jobs for illegal immigrants to obtain, there would be no reason for foreigners to come
here at the onset of it all. The sad part of it all is most illegal aliens have Wyatt 3 little or no job skills
at all, but since they work for the low wages, they are the ones who are hired (Harrison 35). Greedy
business people will do anything to save a dollar these days, even if it means committing a crime.
Many of the illegal immigrants who come to our country live off of our federal aid and receive free
money, when they don t even pay in taxes. This free money comes in the forms of welfare, Medicaid,
education costs, and other government funds. Our hard earned tax dollars are paying for immigrants
who don t even have the right to be here. The Texas head of the House Ways and Means committee,
Bill Archer, stated, quot;People should not expect to come to this country with their hands out to
receive benefits paid for by taxpaying Americans quot; (Jost ). He is absolutely right these people are
getting something for nothing while Americans are getting nothing for our tax dollars when we do
something to earn it. Immigrants pay much less in taxes than they receive in the form of social
benefits (Leone 8). In fact, the approximate national costs of immigration, including unemployment
funds for U.S. workers displaced by immigrants, cost America $42.5 billion more than they paid in
taxes in 1992 (Leone 8). If we didn t pay for these immigrants, maybe we wouldn t

Tree Thoughts Research Paper
Tree Thoughts In the early 1950s when I was a tyke of five or six, in my backyard with no sand box or
swing set, grew a cherry tree probably planted in the 1930s by our home s first owners. One of its
major limbs had been sawed off. In spite of being an amputee, its remaining branches of dark green
serrated leaves stretched to five or seven feet higher than the flat roofed garage it stood next to. It
produced an ample crop, maybe twenty five quarts, of sour cherries which ripened rapidly in the
middle of summer there in Canton, Ohio. Birds liked those red cherries as much as we did. More often
than not we picked them before the robins began snacking on them. My mom had grown up on a farm
about fifty miles east of Canton and knew how to bake a cherry pie. Starting from scratch, using lard
or Crisco in her recipe, guaranteed her crust would be crisp and flaky. My parents grew up when
canning fruits and vegetables was more the norm than not. Their generation valued thriftiness. As their
first born I was a shy, inquisitive child. My usual summer attire was blue jeans turned up three or four
inches, and a colorful, striped tee shirt. When I was older I was told, I acted grown up because I had a
serious air about me. Like trees, though, I thrived in the sunshine. After just a few minutes of being in
the sun, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

part of a natural geometric progression that makes sense only from a very, very high

Free Market System in Belize
According to the Investopedia, a free market system is a market economy based on supply and
demand with little or no government control. It is a completely free market in which buyers and sellers
are allowed to transact freely based on a mutual agreement on price without Government intervention
in the form of taxes, subsidies or regulation . Therefore, the free market system is good for Belize.
Belize positively benefits from this system because it ensures competitive markets, the consumers are
part of the decision making process, and the supply and demand create competition. The free ... Show

Supply and demand create competition, which helps ensure that the best goods or services are
provided to consumers at a lower price. This will lead the businesses to having better quality and
service and by having this the business itself becomes an overall better business. This benefits the
society because they are receiving better goods and services and at a lower price. An example would
be the fruits and vegetables sold at the market. Different stalls at the market may have different prices,
so the consumer may have the option to buy the one with the lowest price or the one with the best
quality. If the good is bought based on the lowest price then the other stalls will need to lower their
price as well because if they don t then they might not sell their goods. In an article by Chris Seabury,
he states that in the United States those who want the removal of government intervention say the free
market would force the businesses to protect the consumer. This in turn would provide the customers
with quality goods and services at low price. Also he stated that there are several disadvantages to
having government intervention. Government intervention can create a huge government bureaucracy,
it can create huge monopolies, and it can compress innovation by over regulating. Firstly, government
regulation creates a huge government bureaucracy that stifles growth. In USA many labor and
environmental regulations

The TV Dinner
The TV dinner....taking the family away from the table!
The TV Dinner concept took hold in 1954 when Swanson s frozen meals appeared...they were a
welcome lifesaver for busy mothers and a delight for the entire family. The dinner was a prepackaged
frozen meal in an aluminum tray, packed inside a cardboard box, that could be heated in the oven, and
all ready to eat in just 25 minutes. Best news yet? The meal could be eaten out of the same tray it was
heated in! Yes, eaten WITHOUT a plate,
We won t kid you...there were quite a few people and companies instrumental in the concept of a
complete meal that need only to be heated before eating. While the frozen dinner s lineage can be
credited way back to 1923 when Clarence Birdseye invented a packing and flash freezing of fresh
food ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Company marketed the dinner like crazy using the relatively new cultural phenomenon of
television! The retail price of each dinner (marketed as a TV Dinner) was roughly about $1 each. The
company sold 10 million TV dinners in 1954, the first year of production.
Thomas was given a $100 raise and a bonus of $1,000 for his invention, and asked Swanson to
renegotiate his contract for a penny a dinner as long as he lived. A decision he later regretted. The
American Frozen Food Institute honored him in their Frozen Food Hall of Fame as the inventor of the
TV dinner and he secured a place on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where his handprints were
featured alongside a tray print.. His role as the inventor is disputed.
The original aluminum tray is now on display at the Smithsonian Institution, next to Fonzie s
jacket. So who really invented the TV dinner? It depends on your definition. But whatever the case, TV
dinners were a food

A Modern Day Form Of Slavery Essay
Literature Review
While DMST is considered to be a modern day form of slavery, history has recorded that the sexual
exploitation of children has been practiced in America since its colonization. While slavery was
abolished in the 19th century, it did not dissipate completely and it wasn t until the beginning of the
20th century that the issue of child sex trafficking began to receive significant attention. This was in
part due to the Trafficking Victim s Protection Act (TVPA) that was passed in 2000 which protected
victims of trafficking by enhancing criminal penalties under the law as well as made benefits and
services to victims available (TVPA, 2000). Since the act s establishment, the TVPA has been
amended 4 times in order to grow with the changing attitudes, policies, and approaches to best combat
human trafficking (DeCeoursty, 2016). The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 refueled the
United States dedication to sex trafficking by declaring DMST as a threat to national security which
transformed the way human trafficking should be approached (DeCeoursty, 2016). The post 911
environment embraced a crime control approach by focusing more on combating organized crime
activity instead of the issue of human rights and the recognition of victimization (DeCeoursty, 2016).
However, this crime control approach to human trafficking failed to address the underlying structural
problems, which is the high demand for the sex trafficking industry. Over time, the Department of

Company History Bharti Airtel
Bharti Tele Ventures was incorporated on July 7, 1995 as a company with limited liability under the
Companies Act, for promoting telecommunications services. Bharti Tele Ventures received certificate
for commencement of business on January 18, 1996.The Company was initially formed as a wholly

It is the largest cellular provider in India, and also supplies broadband and telephone services as well
as many other telecommunications services to both domestic and corporate customers. * Other
stakeholders in Bharti Airtel include Sony Ericsson, Nokia and Sing Tel, with whom they hold a
strategic alliance. This means that the business has access to knowledge and technology from other
parts of the telecommunications world. * The company has covered the entire Indian nation with its
network. This has underpinned its large and rising customer base.
Weaknesses
* An often cited original weakness is that when the business was started by Sunil Bharti Mittal over 15
years ago, the business has little knowledge and experience of how a cellular telephone system
actually worked. So the start up business had to outsource to industry experts in the field. * Until
recently Airtel did not own its own towers, which was a particular strength of some of its competitors
such as Hutchison Essar. Towers are important if your company wishes to provide wide coverage
nationally. * The fact that the Airtel has not pulled off a deal with South Africa s MTN could signal
the lack of any real emerging market investment opportunity for the business once the Indian market
has become mature.
Opportunities
* The company

The Pearl Of Great Price By Joseph Smith Jr.
Joseph Smith Jr. was born in Sharon, Vermont on December 23, 1805. Smith was characterized as
being literate, but far from well educated. His family s rough existence led them across Vermont and
eventually to Rochester, New York. It was here, in the spring of 1820, that Joseph Smith retired to a
secluded grove of trees behind his house and said a prayer for guidance about whether to join the
Presbyterians as his mother demanded, or whether to join the credo of the Baptists, take up the faith of
the Methodists, or follow some other of the contending sects within Christianity at the time. It was
here Joseph Smith claimed to receive his first of many visions. Smith claimed that God and Jesus
Christ appeared before Joseph as separate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike the other standard works of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, the revelations in
the Doctrine and Covenants were received in modern times by latter day prophets and therefore are
not translations of ancient documents. The last canonized revelation was a vision given in 1918 and
there are also tow official declarations the abolishment of polygamy in 1890 and the extension of the
priesthood to all races in 1978. The Pearl of Great Price was penned by Joseph Smith, is deemed
inspired, and consists of several books and 13 articles of faith. These books include the book of Moses
(a revision of parts of Genesis), the Book of Abraham, The Book of Joseph Smith Matthew (a revision
of Matthew 24) and the book of Joseph Smith History (his testimony to the church). The completion
of The Book of Mormon, proved to be the most important and significant act that Joseph Smith
contributed to his church and organization. The Book of Mormon served as a new doctrine and
guideline of Christ s restored church, with which to believe and abide by. This served to his new
Mormon congregation building the early religious foundation for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter
Day Saints stating the highly important concept of an open cannon doctrine, established belief of
divine revelation. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints categorizes their concept of divine
revelation into two categories; Revelation to the Church and Personal

It is time for the Russian workers to begin the struggle for the people s freedom without him. For today I give you my blessing. Tomorrow I shall be with you. Today I am busy working for our cause . Russian Priest, Father Georgy Gapon, conveys his thoughts in a letter read at the meeting of liberals, after the tragic petition of Bloody Sunday. Threatened by the event Bloody Sunday, Tsar Nicholas II faced the choice of military dictatorship or granting a new constitution. In the end, he determined to write a new constitution called the October Manifesto. Issued and signed by the Tsar, he promised to guarantee civil liberties as his last venture to continue his family s history of unlimited autocracy. When the document was signed, it rested the anger most Russian civilians had for their Tsar. • 4. The Black Cat Meaning Darkness lives within each of us. It lurks inside the deep, obscure abyss of our hearts. To escape the judgment and belittlement of others, we conceal our true inner selves in which the iniquity hides. As the storyteller states in The Black Cat , initially, he buried his mental monster underneath kindness and humanity. In fact, the narrator declares, From my infancy I was noted for the docility and humanity of my disposition. My tenderness of heart was even so conspicuous as to make me the jest of my companions (Baym and Levine 718). In another burst of pure rage, the murderer attempts to strike the cat, but his wife stops him, and his loyalty shifts as quickly as a flash of lightning. He withdrew [his] arm from her grasp and buried the axe in her brain (723). Frankly, the narrator s wife seemed as if she was most likely frail and withdrawn. Therefore, it was not as if she had the ability or inclination to attack her husband in any way, so the narrator s immediate reaction was in no way self defense. In other words, he had no reason to accidentally kill his innocent wife. Moreover, after the completion of the deed, he did not immediately run to the police, yelling, I killed my wife! I killed my wife! He actually deposited the body against the inner wall of a cellar (723)! Yet, in order to possess intent, one must have a motive. Well, what exactly was the author s motive? Perhaps, his motive lay in the fact that he wanted to be alone with no responsibilities and no morals. Although the passage does not directly state this notion, it indicates that his wife stood on the foundation of right and wrong and that she represented what he no longer had nor wanted morality. Thus, to rid himself of something he had thrown away a long time ago, the narrator purposely murdered his wife in The Black Cat . His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ultimately, the lack of trust and confidence in Western intervention succumbed Iran into an everlasting, extremist regime that insists in cultural ignorance, controls the media, promotes misogyny, and employs death and fearmongering to influence the opinions and actions of a subdued and continuously misunderstood population. In the lab, the reaction between the hydrogen peroxide and the liver was an exothermic reaction because the temperature of the test tube rose when the hydrogen peroxide was placed into the liver. Heat is a form of energy and the temperature rose as the reaction progressed. In the test tube B, the temperature rose from room temperature to around r30ºC showing that it was an exothermic reaction. I think that the heat from the reactions of the enzymes inside my body keep my body warm and prevent the environment of these enzymes from becoming too cold and the basic functions of the body could not be carried out. There are several factors that affect the productivity of the enzyme. First, the temperature is one of them. When the liver in the lab was boiled, the enzymes were destroyed and nothing happened and when the liver was placed into the ice bath, it had a lower reaction rate than the hotter temperatures. On the other hand, when the temperature was around 37ºC, the enzymes were most effective and made the largest reaction. pH also had an effect on the productivity of the enzymes. Can you use this as a point of departure for o Defining Nietzsche s eternal return and showing how it works? 1. Nietzsche´s eternal return is similar to the 1993 film Groundhog Day where a news reporter got stuck into a time loop reliving the same day over and over until breaking the loop. The contrast here, however, is the film focusing on the reporter´s unhappiness of reliving the same day everyday, whereas Nietzsche philosophized that every decision and action made would be the setup to be relived from the changing point when it all began; the cycle would be repeated when the person dies and then is immediately reborn into the point of change. In terms of the film Groundhog Day, the main character died at the end of each day to be reborn at the point his alarm clock went off in the morning. (Faust, 2012) o Characterizing Tanksley s professional life as one fit for approval by Nietzsche s eternal return? 1. In Tanksley´s case, she believes that she has found her principle passion for life and would be content to repeat it lifetime after lifetime. For her, it is what fuels her to live. • 14. Tax Benefits Of The Tax Under the tax law, certain tax benefits can significantly reduce a taxpayer s regular tax amount. The alternative minimum tax (AMT) applies to taxpayers with high income by setting a limit on those benefits. It helps to ensure that those taxpayers pay at least a minimum amount of tax. The AMT is the excess of the tentative minimum tax over the regular tax. Therefore, the AMT is owed only if the tentative minimum tax is greater than the regular tax. The tentative minimum tax is figured separately from the regular tax. In general, compute the tentative minimum tax by: 1. Computing taxable income eliminating or reducing certain exclusions and deductions, and taking into account differences with respect to when certain items are taken into account in computing regular taxable income and alternative minimum taxable income (AMTI) 2. Subtracting the AMT exemption amount 3. Multiplying the amount computed in (2) by the appropriate AMT tax rates 4. Porter s Five Forces Of Competition Model In The Airline... 2.1 Industry environment The industry analysis can be performed by evaluating the ability of all firms to operate profitably within the airline industry. Porter s five forces of competition model is a perfect tool to perform such analysis. The threat of new entrants is moderately high since President Carter signed the Airline Deregulation Act in 1978, removing U.S Federal Government control over fares, routes and market entry. Therefore, the industry has become less regulated and allowed many new firms to enter the market. Thus, the airline industry requires a lot of capital investments which can disinterest some investors. The bargaining power of buyers rests in the hands of the customers by reducing the price or by asking greater levels of service. It is highly powerful because customers can easily switch to another airline or even another transportation method. They also have the option to deal with a travel agencies that will recommend the best airline according to their needs. The bargaining power of suppliers is high because it is dominated by few large companies. Airbus and Boeing are two manufacturers that have both created a duopoly for the past 15 years in the supply of aircraft (business insider, 2017). Most of the time infants start to categorize gender by three months and are fully developed by one and half to two years old, and labeling by eighteen to twenty months (Hunt, 2016). At about two to three years old they start to develop the knowledge of roles of men and women hypothetically and start to stereotype men and women (Hunt, 2016). With the influences such as kid s toys and TV shows it further reinforces what women and men should do. They develop an ignorance towards gender, and by playing with and watching gendered things they are learning a misinterpretation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Set in 1912, but performed in 1945, after 2 world wars, this play evolves around the suicide of a pregnant working class girl whose name is Eva smith. An inspector by the name of Goole, questions the involvement of a family business with the name Birling.Co and its upper class owners. Priestly, being a socialist, writes this play to prevent a social divide between classes. I believe Eva Smith is the most important character in AIC even though she never appears during the play. Priestly uses her as a metaphor for socialism and the working class, catalyst for responsibility and highlights the corruption of men. In the first act, you have a lot of stage details, The Birlings house if a large suburban house, belonging to a successful business man (Mr Birling) With heavy furniture . The play starts when the Birlings have just finished their dinner, smoking cigars, drinking Port and wearing suits and dresses, even though it s their own home, and to top it all off, they have their own maid, Edna. This instantly tells the audience the Birlings are wealthy and privileged. Throughout the play it becomes clear that Mr Birling doesn t not agree with community/ helping people in need, you d think everybody has to look after everybody else, as if we were all mixed up together like bees in a hive . When you compare this to the views of the younger generation, Sheila for example shows how sympathetic she is towards the lower class; But these girls aren t cheap labour they re people. Due to this, the majority of the film is based upon the book, in terms of plot, theme, characters, and setting. The differences between the two works arise in the modern interpretation taken by Apocalypse Now, and the presentation of Heart of Darkness themes through current events. Both Apocalypse Now (AN) and Heart of Darkness (HOD) take place within four main settings, with the same overall plot. In HOD, these settings are Brussels, the Central Station, the steamboat on the river, and Kurtz s compound. In AN, the initial settings are instead a meeting room with officers and a military base, before becoming a steamboat on the river, and Kurtz s compound. The initial settings both serve the same role: to present the main character with their job, and to give them the means and transportation to complete it. Both works have the jungle as the overall and main setting. Though set in Vietnam and the Congo respectively, both jungles are presented as dark and savage the entryway into the unknown. In both cases, the jungle is not initially seen as dangerous it is simply the environment, a means to an end. In AN, it is not until Chef and Willard journey into the jungle in search of mangoes that this illusion is disrupted. • 33. Theme Of Autolycus In The Winter s Tale Shakespeare, in The Winter s Tale, invents Autolycus as an implementer of satire, playing a fundamental function in the context of the play as the counterpoint, however playful, to the first act. Furthermore, Autolycus serves as the chief instrument for the introduction and advancement of comedic themes and acts of trickery as a rogue, thief and master of masks. Therefore, as the implementer of satire, Autolycus furnishes as a crucial counterpoint to the play, which warrants his significance in relation to the play in its entity. As the passage of time marks its quick ascent, the sudden shift from winter to spring and youth into age is marked by the passage of Autolycus as he enters the play singing. When the daffodils begin to peer, with heigh, the doxy over the dale, why, then comes in the sweet o the year, for the red blood reigns in the winter pale (Act IV, Scene 3, Lines 1 4). Autolycus not only signals the shift from tragedy to comedy, but emphasizes the juxtaposition from winter to spring; a time of rebirth. Therefore, Autolycus serves as the epitome of transformations as the play sharply diverges from the common, albeit serious, tales of tragedy to a shift of miraculous harmony. Moreover, Autolycus continues to contradict the social hierarchies, according to historical sources, placed during Shakespearean period as well as the characters. • 37. Taking a Look at Conflict Resolution To manage these conflict styles; avoidance, accommodation, aggression, and collaboration management styles are used. Roommates use these styles when dealing with conflict. The style they choose relates to how they will use text messaging in conflict and how they would like their face to be perceived by the individual involved in the conflict. When a roommate chooses avoidance they are pretending the conflict does not exist and will avoid any form of communication for fear of their face being perceived negatively. We see an explanation of this from Erving Goffman where he proposed an idea of facework as a social performance where we are all actors. He offered a cooperative principle where people agree to support each other s performance or face. To not support each other s face is to disrupt the entire scene, because no one can continue in performance when others are embarrassed or shamed (Cupach Metts, 1994). Based on the conflict modes of Thomas and Kilmann, there are five styles of conflict management: avoiding, accommodating, collaborating, competing and compromising. Accommodation happens when a person attempts to satisfy the other person s concerns at the expense of their own, Avoiding is where a person sidesteps the conflict without trying to satisfy either person s concern, Compromising is when the person partially satisfies both people s concerns, Collaborating is when a person tries to find a win win solution that satisfies both people s concerns, and Competing ... Part 1: Matrix Strength of the Argument (1 strongest, 6 weakest) Reasons for Reasons Against 1 Universal health care would be affordable for everyone Millions of people would save money with universal healthcare due to everyone paying an equal amount; whether it be through tax increase or some other form. However, it will amount to less money than those who are paying for healthcare now due to the fact that every citizen pays for it and not only the people who can afford the raising prices. Tax Increases to cover the healthcare change. 2 Public health would improve with universal health care All citizens will have unlimited access to the medical professionals. Many people that cannot afford insurance will now have unlimited opportunities to get annual exams and help to prevent major health issues from going unseen. With an increase in the amount of people needing/wanting medical treatment, there will be a shortage of medical staff. This will cause longer wait times, limited resources, as well as not having enough doctors and specialists to meet the demand. 3 The cost of healthcare would be lower for the US when expenses are prioritized. Self Evaluation Motivates Performance Essay Self Evaluation Motivates Performance To demonstrate that the potential for self evaluation can motivate performance, the potential for evaluation by external sources must be eliminated. As Bandura (1986) writes, When environmental constraints are reduced, the influence of self evaluative motivators becomes most self evident (p. 479). Thus, to determine whether the self evaluative concerns suggested by social comparison theory motivate performance, one must ensure that people feel that they cannot be individually evaluated by an externalsource. Such control of external evaluation is made possible through the use of the social loafing paradigm (e.g., Latane, Williams, Harkins, 1979). Social loafing refers to the finding that ... Pilot work with this task showed that participants felt that they knew how many uses they had generated (their output). Therefore, to manipulate the potential for self evaluation, Szymanski and Harkins either provided an evaluative criterion by telling participants that at the end of the session they would be told the average number of uses generated by participants in a previous version of the experiment, or Szymanksi and Harkins withheld the criterion by telling participants that to preserve confidentiality they would not be given this information. When the participants were provided with the evaluative criterion, they had an opportunity for selfevaluation by social comparison. This manipulation of the potential for self evaluation was crossed with a manipulation of the potential for experimenter evaluation. Half of the participants were told that at the end of the session, the experimenter would come in and count the number of uses that they had generated (experimenter evaluation), whereas the other half of the participants were told that the experimenter was interested in average performance so their individual outputs would be pooled with those of ... • 40. Analysis Of Sir Bedivere And Le Morte DArthur Knights in Medieval times were highly regarded by others; they were expected to be chivalrous and embody the knightly virtues. The ideal knight was merciful, honorable, and noble. These three important virtues of a knight were clearly embodied by Sir Lancelot in Le Morte d Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory. Sir Lancelot outshined Sir Bedivere, Sir Modred, and King Arthur as a knight because he expressed the knightly virtues more than the others. Sir Lancelot proved to be merciful, honorable, and noble through his words and actions and the words and actions of other knights. Therefore, Sir Lancelot is the most virtuous knight because he greatly embodies mercy, honor, and nobility. While King Arthur seems to never show mercy to his opponents, Sir Lancelot proves from the beginning of Le Morte d Arthur that he is merciful. It is clear that in battles, Sir Lancelot values the code of chivalry, leading to him showing mercy to his opponents. In an encounter with Sir Gawain, Gawain continually antagonizes Sir Lancelot. He responds to Sir Gawain s threats by saying Sir Gawain, I have once spared your life... (Malory 131). Sir Lancelot was merciful towards Sir Gawain by not killing him during their first encounter. The fact that Sir Gawain continually insulted him made it increasingly harder for Sir Lancelot to show him mercy, yet he was still able to compose himself. Even in the face of his own death, Sir Lancelot was able to show Sir Gawain mercy. By doing so, he continued to risk his own life. In contrast to Sir Lancelot, King Arthur was not merciful towards his opponents, even when they were his own son. During a final battle against Sir Modred and his army, King Arthur saw all the casualties of his own men. One of his knights, Sir Lucas, begged Arthur to spare Modred and wait until a later time to battle him. In spite of these pleas, King Arthur stated I care nothing for my life now! And while Sir Modred is at large I must kill him: there may not be another chance (Malory 310 311). King Arthur was determined, no matter the outcome, to kill Sir Modred. In spite of being an amputee, its remaining branches of dark green serrated leaves stretched to five or seven feet higher than the flat roofed garage it stood next to. This will lead the businesses to having better quality and service and by having this the business itself becomes an overall better business. This benefits the society because they are receiving better goods and services and at a lower price. An example would be the fruits and vegetables sold at the market. Different stalls at the market may have different prices, so the consumer may have the option to buy the one with the lowest price or the one with the best quality. If the good is bought based on the lowest price then the other stalls will need to lower their price as well because if they don t then they might not sell their goods. In an article by Chris Seabury, he states that in the United States those who want the removal of government intervention say the free market would force the businesses to protect the consumer. This in turn would provide the customers with quality goods and services at low price. Also he stated that there are several disadvantages to having government intervention. The Company marketed the dinner like crazy using the relatively new cultural phenomenon of television! The retail price of each dinner (marketed as a TV Dinner) was roughly about $1 each. The company sold 10 million TV dinners in 1954, the first year of production. Thomas was given a $100 raise and a bonus of $1,000 for his invention, and asked Swanson to renegotiate his contract for a penny a dinner as long as he lived. A decision he later regretted. The American Frozen Food Institute honored him in their Frozen Food Hall of Fame as the inventor of the TV dinner and he secured a place on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where his handprints were featured alongside a tray print.. • 47. A Modern Day Form Of Slavery Essay Literature Review While DMST is considered to be a modern day form of slavery, history has recorded that the sexual exploitation of children has been practiced in America since its colonization. While slavery was abolished in the 19th century, it did not dissipate completely and it wasn t until the beginning of the 20th century that the issue of child sex trafficking began to receive significant attention. This was in part due to the Trafficking Victim s Protection Act (TVPA) that was passed in 2000 which protected victims of trafficking by enhancing criminal penalties under the law as well as made benefits and services to victims available (TVPA, 2000). Since the act s establishment, the TVPA has been amended 4 times in order to grow with the changing attitudes, policies, and approaches to best combat human trafficking (DeCeoursty, 2016). The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 refueled the United States dedication to sex trafficking by declaring DMST as a threat to national security which transformed the way human trafficking should be approached (DeCeoursty, 2016). The post 911 environment embraced a crime control approach by focusing more on combating organized crime activity instead of the issue of human rights and the recognition of victimization (DeCeoursty, 2016). However, this crime control approach to human trafficking failed to address the underlying structural problems, which is the high demand for the sex trafficking industry. Over time, the Department of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This means that the business has access to knowledge and technology from other parts of the telecommunications world. * The company has covered the entire Indian nation with its network. So the start up business had to outsource to industry experts in the field. * Until recently Airtel did not own its own towers, which was a particular strength of some of its competitors such as Hutchison Essar. His family s rough existence led them across Vermont and eventually to Rochester, New York. It was here, in the spring of 1820, that Joseph Smith retired to a secluded grove of trees behind his house and said a prayer for guidance about whether to join the Presbyterians as his mother demanded, or whether to join the credo of the Baptists, take up the faith of the Methodists, or follow some other of the contending sects within Christianity at the time. The last canonized revelation was a vision given in 1918 and there are also tow official declarations the abolishment of polygamy in 1890 and the extension of the priesthood to all races in 1978. The Pearl of Great Price was penned by Joseph Smith, is deemed inspired, and consists of several books and 13 articles of faith. These books include the book of Moses (a revision of parts of Genesis), the Book of Abraham, The Book of Joseph Smith Matthew (a revision of Matthew 24) and the book of Joseph Smith History (his testimony to the church). The completion of The Book of Mormon, proved to be the most important and significant act that Joseph Smith contributed to his church and organization. The Book of Mormon served as a new doctrine and guideline of Christ s restored church, with which to believe and abide by. This served to his new Mormon congregation building the early religious foundation for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints stating the highly important concept of an open cannon doctrine, established belief of divine revelation.
