Essay on Animal Rights is a Cause for Vegetarianism
Animal Rights Cause for Vegetarianism
The choice of eating meat or not has been a debated issue for a continued number of years. There have
long since been two sides: the proponents and opponents of meat consumption. More and more
debates of its value and effect on the world have risen. Many claim it is wrong, while others think of it
as a needed pleasure.
Today, a greater percentage of the population eats meat. Only a few individuals seek the alternative
route. Yet, there has been a steady rise in the number of vegetarians.
Many may already know that religions all over the world have advocated a meat free diet. While a few
are lenient, the majority is steady. The reason a vegetarian diet has been preferred over meat dates

Take for example this quote from the Srimad Bhagavatam 1.7.37, quot;A cruel and wretched person
who maintains his existence at the cost of others lives deserves to be killed for his own eternal well
being, otherwise he will go down by his own actions. quot;
There are many more such quotes from scriptures all over the world. Yet nowadays, there is just the
opposite of vegetarianism in compliance of these ancient texts.
quot;Although meat eating has been denied to the human form by God and his sons and daughters of
the past, people still adopt the process. quot;
Such are the statements of devout followers who adhere to a meat free diet in accordance to scriptural
texts.
Those who advocate vegetarianism profess that many people are weak of heart and so succumb to
meat eating. While those who advocate a meat oriented diet say that a meat diet is essential for a
normal and healthy life, for they provide protein.
[The Dutch chemist, Gerrit Jari Mulder, in his experiments, has proved in 1838, that protein is
biologically essential, for every living creature needs a certain amount to survive. This fact about
protein is due to the presence of amino acids, the building blocks quot; of life.]
While it is true that animals provide essential protein for the human body, scientific reports have
provided additional information that may seem to support a vegetarian viewpoint.
In his Book quot;Diet for Transcendence quot;, Steven Rosen states from other sources

Sun Yat Sen Research Paper
Dr. Sun Yat sen was fortunately able to make it out of China alive. From that day forth he was a
marked man. Dr. Sun Yat sen fled to Japan where he continued to plan his revolution. He saw Taiwan
as a great asset and sent Chen Shao bai to set up a Taiwanese chapter of the Revive China Society.
From that moment on, Taiwan s fate was even more interwoven with China s. While in Japan, Dr. Sun
Yat sen collaborated with Chinese students that had strong patriotic feelings of restoring China to his
former glory. These revolutionist students joined forces with Dr. Sun Yat sen to form the
Revolutionary Alliance. The people of the United States, at this time, had a negative view of the
existing Chinese government. Dr. Sun Yat sen capitalized on this public opinion and went on a
fundraising trip for the Revolutionary Alliance. He was hugely successful. While he was in the United
States, he saw a newspaper article about a successful uprising in the Wuchang province. He

close historical connection and proximity to China captured Dr. Sun Yat sen s interest. Throughout his
lifetime he visited Taiwan three times and each time he left a lasting influence on the country. On his
first visit he set up a command center in Araki cho. He spent forty four days there planning new
revolutionary uprisings. His next visit took place after the failed second revolution in 1913. He stayed
at a hotel during this trip that has now become a memorial. On his third visit in 1918 Dr. Sun Yat sen
tried to enter the country but Japanese colonists would not let him step foot on Taiwanese soil. This
was due to Japan s goal of making the Taiwanese people more loyal to Japan as opposed to China.
From the founding of the Taiwanese chapter of the Revive China Society to the formation of the
Chinese United League in Taiwan, the torch of revolution began to be passed on to

Energy, Water, And Food
1. Abstract
Energy, water, and food are interdependent on one another. Water is the main contributor for the
production of agriculture along with other food substances. The distribution of water is reliant on
energy. Energy is used to pump water from the ground. Water is used in agricultural irrigation and
energy is used to harvest the crops for food. All three sectors are indicators of a strong society.
The relationships between these three sectors come with a cost. High amounts of energy are used to
extract water. Extraction is both monetarily and environmentally costly. Using water in irrigation
diverts river flows. Energy can be produced from rivers but diverting water to agriculture creates a
lower flow. The balance of the trade offs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Energy security is the concept that government should protect its citizens from crises that may arise
between the availability and consumption of energy. Challenges are seen in the manipulation of power
supplies because of uneven distribution to competition for energy resources.
Food security is emphasized by the access to a supply of food. Throughout history, many different
societies have struggled to maintain a sufficient supply of nutritious food for their citizens. The limited
availability of food arose from factors such as droughts, war, energy shortages.
Access to these three services is more about keeping a consistent supply to society, addressing supply
fluctuations in times of extreme situation. Addressing these securities require collaboration among the
sectors. Interdisciplinary communication in the politics of each sector can help plan for future
potential conflict. 3. Interactions Among Security Sectors
Energy, water, and food sectors work together in many ways. Water is used for the extraction of
energy supplies such as fossil fuels. It is also used in mining and processing energy supplies. Energy is
used in machinery for growing food and it is also used in the transportation of food supplies.
Agriculturally, feedstock is grown to create biofuels which generate power and electricity. The
cultivation of the amount of feedstock needed to create biofuel is

The Disocial Model Of Disability
1.1 Outline the history and development of the medical, social and psychosocial models of disability
The medical model of disability With the Age of Enlightenment in the 18th century there came a more
scientific understanding of the causes of disability and with it a sense of confidence in
medical science s ability to cure, or rehabilitate disabled people. Some disabled people were deemed
incurable and placed in long stay institutions and special schools. A notion of normality was based on
assessments of disability against normality (what a person can t do, instead of what a person can do.)
This does not take away the very necessary role of medical science in keeping many disabled people
alive/reducing pain and discomfort. The medical model sees disabled people as the problem. They
need to be adapted to fit into the world as it is. If this isn t possible, then they should have only their
basic needs met. The emphasis is on dependence. The disability is focused on, rather than the needs of
the person. The power to change disabled people appeared to lie with in the medical profession, with
talk of cures, normalisation and science. Often, disabled people s lives are handed over to these
professionals. Their decisions affect where disabled people go to school/what support they get/where
they live/if they can work. The Disability Movement points out how the built environment/society
imposes limitations on disabled people. Medical model thinking would say

Gender In Advertising
Taking a look at the details can make a big impact in what you think you are seeing. On the outside,
we see sexes that are the biological differences in individuals, but what about the concept of gender?
The expectations that society creates about men and women establish these levels of association
people gather together. As these roles come about, people begin to grow accustom and oblivious to the
reoccurring presence. In the current era, media continues to expand all over the areas of daily living.
One of the major forms of communication is advertising, which relays information to society about a
certain product, location, or trending topic. Whether it be on television, the radio, or the internet,
gender is intertwined into these forms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only is gender forcefully depicted over the course of life, but also the level of intensity in the
advertisements is seen quite often. Sexual influence is used abundantly towards men, and businesses
find a way to incorporate this factor in almost anything. One of the more gentle ads is the M M pin
that has the green candy taking off her outer shell. The sex appeal from the candy gives off a vibe to
men that if they purchase this product, they will be satisfied. Not only is it seen through a cartoon
candy, but in real life women too. The intensity increases for products that more older men would see.
As seen on television, the well known Hardee s commercials utilize women as a way to pair burgers
with romance. These commercials vary in magnitude, but one of the more vulgar ones is the all natural
burger. The main girl appears to be naked throughout the commercial, and gives off seductive vibes
that put the male actors in a trance. Curiosity grows as in continues to stream, and at the end the
audience see that the girl is clothed, rather in a skimpy outfit, with of course, the burger. Another pin
that displays similar intensity is the Charlotte Brillat Savarin cheese ad, which has a girl mostly naked,
only covered by an apron. Even though the advertisement is for cheese, the woman adds a way to gain
the attention of men, who socially are viewed to desire sex appeal. All in all, the pins reveal that the
gender identity for real men is aimed at intimate relationships with

Online Fantasy Sports Should Be Considered Gambling
My topic for this essay is Fantasy Sports and if they should be considered gambling or not. Online
Fantasy Sports are websites that you can go to, to join clubs, and make bets on the performances of
professional athletes. When you first join, there is a fantasy draft where you choose which players you
would like on your fantasy team . Once you have your team finished you will be making bets each
week as the season goes on. At the end of the season, there will be a prize awarded to the player with
the most points gained from how well the players on their team played each week. There have been
many arguments on whether Online Fantasy Sports betting is gambling and if it should be illegal.
These fantasy sports websites have given people something to do and have become so popular to
everyone around the world, but should they be allowed? The Online programs have been targeted for
many reasons, are they legal, and have they have also risen questions, that the athletes should receive
a small amount of the money they make. Even with all this stuff happening, theses websites have been

Behavior Modification Case Study Essay
Case Study Mark As a teacher having one student that cause disruptions and distractions in the
classroom can be a problem. This is due to the distractions that the student poses for those around
them and the typical disrespect that is shown to the teacher. Behavior modification can be done for
students but this process can take time, but the time it takes can also yield rewards. In this case study
we will be finding ways to modify a Mark s behavior, who is a 6th grader that poses problems within
the classroom.
Behavioral Theories Mark is often finding way to disrupt others in the classroom and tends to not only
distract those around himself, but his actions also affect his work completion. He is a class clown who
for his behavior has been reprimanded thorugh a number of ways. His behavior is not longer
acceptable, and his actions are causing him to spend more time out of class than he should. The first
step is to identify what behavrior theory fits Mark s leanred behavior. Mark s leanerd behavior theory
would be best at Operant Conditioning. This means that Mark would benefit from Behavior
modification techniques based on operant conditioning. The main principle comprises changing
environmental events that are related to a person s behavior (McLeod, 2007). This would allow the
teacher to create a plan for Mark, that targets specific behaviors and from these behaviors Mark would
learn that there are both consequences and rewards for specific actions. This

I felt the heat of the sun shinning through my window, I covered my face with a pillow even though I
knew it was time to get up. I slowly rolled out of bed, splashed my face with cold water, got my gear
on, and headed out the door. A couple days a week I would arrive early to the studio to sit and observe
the early risers stretch their way through their practice. I sat in the back of the small, dimly lit room,
that smells subtly of lavender. The heat gave the brick covered walls and wooden floors a warm,

My first observation about my yoga community is that growth is better in groups. Yoga is a path to
happiness, like any physical activity, it s better in the company of some inspirational people who see
you moving forward. Our yoga practice induce deep thought, wider breathing, eating more mindfully,
learning therapeutic concepts, making patient and conscious decisions about our bodies and lives, and
treating others with respect and kindness. This type of growing requires support of other like minded
people serving towards similar goals. Knowing that person in Down Dog next to you is pushing
towards a similar goal is comforting and inspiring. It motivates your body and your mind and pushes
your practice into the corners of your mat that can be hard to reach without outside inspiration from

Former president Josep Broz Tito held Yugoslavia together and was able to extinguish the nationalism
growing in many republics. His death however reopened the wound and let the nationalism of the
Serbs become existent. The serb forces ideology for a Greater Serbia was the very motive that sparked
the 3 year long civil war. For starters the Serb forces showed much nationalism by joining up in a
group of 16 Serb Political members and writing the Memorandum of the Serbian Academy of
Sciences and Arts. For them, is was supposedly to support a solution of Yugoslav unity but instead
focused depently on disapproving president Tito s ways. In fact in 1987, the president of Serbia,
Slobodan Milošević, was openly supportive of the document and was even the spokes person for it.
He envisioned and introduce a nationalist motto of strong Serbia, strong Yugoslavia . This nationalism
alone from a president was the spark of all nationalism thereafter. It was a sense of unity for serbians
and made them more superior than other ethnicities due to that fact that the president was so open
about it. This gave him justification by using text to support his beliefs and ideas. This is comparative
to the middle east by Al Qaeda and ISIS. The middle east as well uses documents and books to justify
and spread what they are doing. They use the Quran, a holy book, as justification for the strong hate
for others and strong nationalism for their country. They use versus such as I will cast terror into the
hearts of those who disbelieve. Therefore strike off their heads and strike off every fingertip of them.

Essay On Cherokee Indian Removal
Two out of three people are discriminated everyday. Giving someone equal rights does not infringe or
take away rights from them, it just makes it illegal to enforce your prejudice and hate. British
statesman and philosopher Edmund Burke once said, Those who don t know history are destined to
repeat it. He also said, All that s necessary for the forces of evil to win in the world is for enough good
men to do nothing. During the Cherokee Indian Removal, the Cherokee Indians were forced to be
removed by the U.S. troops because of discovery of gold leading them to be removed, and
discrimination towards the Cherokees. First the U.S. troops wanted to remove all Cherokees because
of the discovery of gold. In this situation, the Cherokees had valuable land that could be used for
farming. This would benefit the White Americans in a way to sell goods. Later, the White Americans
had found gold on Cherokee Territory, making it another reason why Andrew Jackson, wanted to

The beginning of the movie starts with a footage of football player Mike Webster (played by David

This all took place in September 2002, Mike is homeless and living in his car, suffering from
dementia. Nigerian pathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu (played by Will Smith) is giving a testimony in
court over a murder case. He works at the coroner s office in Allegehney county where he has an odd

getting worse. Webster is visited at his car by fellow football player Strzelczyk, who is also suffering
from a similar condition. Webster complains that he doesn t want to go to sleep, so he is seeing tasing
himself to stay awake. He is later found dead and it shocks everyone. His body is brought in for
Bennet to examine. Bennet takes a look at Webster s brain and discovers severe head trauma that led
to his mental problems. He furthers his research by studying football videos and noticing the amount
of times he took serious blows to the head. After this Strzcelczyk is seen ready to attack his wife and
children, claiming that the voices in his head are telling him to kill them. His wife screams at him to
get out, and he drives away and ends up dying. Bennet examines them as well and concludes that the

Essay about Narrative of Life of Frederick Douglass
Published in 1845, Narrative of life of Frederick Douglass an American slave written by himself is
still the most highly acclaimed American autobiography ever written. It was published seven years
after Douglass escaped from his life as a slave in Maryland. It describes his experience of being slave
and his psychological insights into the slave master relationship. The main focus is on How he learn to
read and write and the pain of slavery. The goal of this paper is to bring more insight analysis of his
narrative life through the most famous two chapter s in which he defines, How he learn to read and

Analysis Douglass s Narrative displays how white slaveholders continue slavery by keeping their
slaves uninformed. At the time Douglass was writing, many people thought that slavery was a normal
state of being. They believed that blacks were naturally incapable of participating in civil society and
thus should be kept as labors for whites. The Narrative explains the tactics and measures by which
whites gain and keep power over blacks from their birth onward. Slave owners keep slaves
uninformed of basic facts about themselves, such as their birth date or their parents. This enforced
ignorance deprives children of their natural sense of distinct identity. As slave children grow up, slave
owners prevent them from learning to read and write, as learning would give them a sense of self
sufficiency and capability. Slave masters understand that knowledge would lead slaves to question the
right of whites to keep slaves. Lastly, by keeping slaves illiterate, Southern slave masters maintain
control over what the rest of America knows about slavery. If slaves cannot write, their picture of the
slavery story cannot be told. Wendell Phillips states this point in his prefatory letter to the Narrative.
Just as slave masters keep people as slaves by depriving them of knowledge and education, slaves
need to seek knowledge and education in order to track freedom. It is from Hugh Auld that Douglass
learns this idea that knowledge should be the way to

Literary Elements In The Tale Tell Heart By Edger Allen Poe
McBride, Wayne 16 Nov. 2017 Robinson Eng. 101 The short story the Tale Tell Heart, Edger Allen
Poe uses many literary elements to show the theme of the story. Some of the literary elements that Poe
uses are first person narrator, interior monologue, stream of consciousness, and cosmic irony. With
these elements Poe displays the theme of the story which is, we are afraid of the things we don t
understand and a guilty conscience will win out in the end. First person narration is throughout this
story by using tense language as if he was telling you this in person. By using this element of first
person narration it is able appeal more to the reader in an emotional way. The reader feels as if the
protagonist is personally telling them the story about the old man. In the first paragraph Poe addresses
the audience as if a question had just been asked to the protagonist if he was mad, The Protagonist
responds with this the first paragraph of the story. True nervous very, very dreadfully nervous I had
been and am; but why will you say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses not destroyed
not dulled them. Above all was the sense of hearing acute. I heard all things in the heaven and in the
earth. I heard many things in hell. How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily how
calmly I can tell you the whole story. (41) The way Poe has the Protagonist exclaim that his is indeed
not mad, is using emotional appeal to the reader. Interior monologue all throughout the story, this is
mostly how the narrator speaks to the audience. By using interior monologue Poe uses logical appeal
to show why the Protagonist wanted to kill the old man. The Protagonist states that the old man has
never done anything to him and has always been pleasant to be around, it is the old man s eye, his
blind eye that the Protagonist is afraid of. We know this because of what the Protagonist says in the
second paragraph, I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult. For
his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture a pale blue
eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees very
gradually I

How to Learn About Tax Lien Investing There are late night infomercials offering systems about how

house just by paying the overdue property taxes, tax lien investing can be complicated and drawn out,
especially if you decide to foreclose. And with so many programs available to help homeowners
facing foreclosure, there is no guarantee the foreclosure will go through. The most an investor should
hope for is to get back the invested money plus interest. Because tax lien investing is such a complex
process, the only way for investors to really be successful is to learn the laws about property tax liens
for their state. It is a good idea for would be investors to contact the country clerk s office or other
government agency in their state and request information on the tax lien auction process. With tax lien
investing, investors get a high rate of return for a few years while county governments get the money
they need. This type of investment is not for everyone and it is certainly not a get rich quick scheme.

there were abundance of scenes that made the movie memorable for the audience. One scene I found
this intriguing was the funeral scene. There were numerous techniques that were used during the scene
which ties everything for the audience to understand who the murderer was. Without analyzing the

Bulimia Nervosa is another eating disorder discussed in the DSM 5 (2013), that is most prevalent in

eating in a discrete period of time (2 hours), and amount of food that is larger than most individuals

time just to purge as a result. This intensity it of consuming, must happen in a moderate amount of
time in order to be considered bulimic. Better understood by Abraham (2008) she states, an episode of
binge eating occurs when the woman s resistance to eating fails and she has an irresistible desire to eat
(p. 280). This type of behavior represents a sense of lack of control. Women who binge have a hard
time stopping and controlling what and how much they are consuming.

Although some characteristics may exist in both disorders, there is certain criterion that makes them
distinct. The huge distinction between the two is the inappropriate compensatory behavior that
Bulimics exhibit (DSM V, 2013). In other words, people who binge eat don t necessarily result in
getting rid of the food afterward. Another differential diagnosis would be someone who is Anorexia

The Relationship Between Frida Kahlo And Diego Rivera
Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, two Mexican artists, entered into a consensually non monogamous
relationship. Frida was very well aware that it was not in Diego to be a monogamous man. We know
this because she answered the question of why she puts up with his affairs like this; Look, Diego is
how he is, and that is how I love him. I cannot love him for what he is not. (Clancy Sigal). These
relationships are basically ways to engage in sex outside of the relationship but they differ from
cheating because the partner is aware. Different types of non monogamous relationships include
partner swapping, swinging and polyamory (Pappas). Studies are just beginning to be started about
consensual non monogamy, but there is some evidence that these ... Show more content on

Going back to the toast at Frida and Diego s wedding, marriage was stated to be a political act that
occurred in the name of tradition. Monogamy is also enforced by culture, economics, social factors
and it is the normal thing to do (Robinson). As we saw in the movie, Frida s mother was highly
opposed to her marriage to Diego because he had been divorced twice already and because he was a
Communist; her fear was that he would not be good to Frida. Even in society today, when a man and
woman are not monogamous, they are frowned upon or referred to in derogatory terms. Research
shows that promiscuity raised the likelihood of reproduction and survival, but monogamy worked
where there was a low female to male ratio, limiting men s options (Borreli, Are Humans Naturally
Monogamous?).
Until Diego crossed the boundaries of having sex with Frida s sister, their relationship seemed to work
for them. Borreli noted that researchers found non monogamous people have specific differences in
how their brain responded to reward, described as a cheater s high, attributed to mutations in receptor
genes that respond to the hormone vasopressin. Maybe Diego really was on to something when he told
Frida he was physically incapable of being

History And History Of Math
History of Math in Egypt We use math almost daily in our lives, but how many of us think about the
history of math? Math began with early humans in the form of scratches and was carried into ancient
Egypt and Greece (Mastin).Today, Egypt s population is roughly 94 million (The World Factbook).
However, back in 3000 BC, scholars estimate that between one to four million people lived in the Nile
River Valley. The Egyptians called this region Kemet which translates to Black Land (O Connor and
Robertson; Lesko 135 44). As society began to be more complex and people began to trade for
services and goods, a need for a counting system arose (O Connor and Robertson). At the time, the
Egyptians used hieroglyphs that only scribes could write ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Twenty five problems are written on the papyrus and these were translated by Egyptologist Vasily
Vasilievich Struve. These problems use algebra as well as geometry (Gardener). The Egyptians used
and created many forms of math that we still use today. Their advancements in both writing forms and
mathematics help people today in more ways than they could have imagined. Also, numerous things
were discovered when Jean François Champollion in 1822 translated hieroglyphs for the first time
(Lesko 135 44). Lastly, we no longer write in picture symbols that few people can decipher and still
use a base ten counting system. Math in Egypt and Today The Egyptians utilized many forms of math
in their daily lives. Among these were various algebra and geometry problems(Gardner). Around 2700
BC, a base ten counting system that used different symbols such as a stroke for the number one, a heel
bone symbol for 10, a coil of rope for 100, and a lotus plant for 1,000 was developed (Mastin). Base
ten is a numbering system that uses a decimal for any number smaller than one. Once a number
exceeds nine it moves to the next place (the tens place) (Russel). Furthermore, the Egyptians could
also estimate the area of a circle by guessing that if the area of a circle with a diameter of nine units
was close to the area of a square with sides of eight units, that the area of that circle could be
calculated by multiplying the diameter by 8⁄9 and then squaring it (Mastin). In order to find the

Catoctin Mountain Review Essay
Introduction:
The National Park Service (NPS) and the U. S. Department of the Interior (USDI) drafted the Catoctin
Mountain National Park Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) (2006) to
impart knowledge of a need for action to facilitate the regeneration of vegetation and reforestation of
the park. A population of white tailed deer that was exceeding an estimated 100 individual animals per
square mile was over browsing the vegetation. According to the EIS a population of 15 to 20
individuals is optimal to protect herd health and allow regeneration of the vegetation. The EIS listed
four alternatives that were investigated in depth according to the National Environmental Protection
Act requirements (FHWA, n.d.) these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This alternative would reach the goals through the length of the plan. The reduction in deer population
would not be rapid and regeneration would be seen mostly in the exclusions until the population had
diminished and the plan cost is over $9.5 million. The preferred alternative, alternative C was
comprised of the continuation of alternative A with the use of sharpshooting and the subduing and
euthanization of deer to rapidly reduce the population to the goal range in three years. Through this
alternative the goals would be meet in a relatively short time frame at a cost between $738,600 and
$941,100. The final alternative, alternative D also continued alternative A with the combination of
sharpshooting, euthanization, and reproduction control. Alternative D would meet the goals of the plan
in a similar time frame as alternative C with a cost of between $1.4 and $1.6 million.
Rejected alternatives:
Several alternatives were rejected for various reasons. The first rejected alternative was a managed
hunt, for the need of legislation change in congress to allow a hunt on NPS land and possible cost and
safety issues. A second was sterilization of bucks, which would only show moderate control of the
population if the dominant buck were sterilized. Predator reintroduction was next rejected, because
studies have shown that predators have not shown consistent

The Descent Of A Regime From A To An Oligarchy
To understand the descent of a regime from a timocracy to an oligarchy, first the tenets of a timocracy
must be understood. A timocracy first comes into being due to human error of the guardians. The
guardians are not perfect, so when choosing the next generation of guardians to educate, they will not
always choose the best candidates. Since the current guardians will not always select the children with
gold souls, the aristocracy will eventually degenerate into a less just society. Some new rulers will
attempt to preserve the old and just ways, while the less benevolent rulers will want private property
among guardians, creating tension in the ruling class. Eventually, this tension will be alleviated by

Men will start to pervert the laws in that direction, that direction being for profit (550d11). Wealth is
then equated to honor, and naturally things deemed honorable are those that citizens seek to achieve. A
change is made in the city s fundamental governing doctrine; the change states that only those with a
certain amount of wealth can rule the city. This is the birth of the oligarchic regime. Only citizens of a
certain economic status have any political power. Those who have the political power then wish to
keep the power, and will abuse their lawmaking ability to oppress the poor. Rulers will do whatever
they can to keep the poor where they are, so that the lower class cannot replace the current rulers as
lawmakers. The factions of rich and poor create a city doomed to fail.
All the problems of the oligarchy can be traced back to equating wealth to honor and the descent from
timocracy to the oligarchy itself. Socrates notes 5 distinct problems of the oligarchy, the first being the
distribution of political power. Due to the standard of wealth required in the city, a wise, just, and
virtuous man could not become a ruler if he is poor. If a true philosopher king existed, but was poor,
he could not rule the city. This inevitably will lead to more injustice and harm done to the city, for
those who are unfit to rule are the only ones with political power. If wealth was never

My Mother s Tongue by Amy Tan
In the personal essay My Mothers Tongue (1990), Amy Tan, widely known author explains her
insights on language and culture identity using details and memories from her own life experiences.
Tan conceals that the language in which her mother used with her was the language that helped shape
the way [she] saw things, expressed things, made sense of the world (1208) and in the process it made
her who she is today as an author. Tan illuminates the euro centricity of the Master Narrative by
retelling stories of her mother being treated poorly because of her broken or limited English. She
recalls many past experiences where her mother suffered from bad service and treatment from
restaurants, stockbrokers, and even hospitals. Using examples from her personal life Tan gets her point
across about language and culture characteristics in order to show how Chinese culture is affected by
the master narrative and also encourages others to include a variety of cultures in order to overcome
bias opinions. Tan s apparent audience can be ranged from the child of an immigrant to a doctor and
offers an authentic and rich portrayal of Chinese history through her conflicting experience of her
Chinese and American cultures.

Network Design Essay
3 General Ideas:
The three general ideas which are interesting to my preference would be,
Network Security
Network Architecture and
Artificial Intelligence
1. Network Security:
Keeping a network secured is always mandatory because information cannot be share by a person who
is unauthorized and network security is an advanced procedure where it will prevent possible access or
misuse of information on network or modify any data on the network without having an access to it.
There are several ways of network security by which a network can be secured.
The three sub areas which I have selected in Network Security are,
Data Loss Prevention: Any company which has a network and few work stations which work on this
network should make sure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, NAC (Network Access Control) is the process which will be giving limited access depending on
their designation.
2. Network Architecture:
This is one of the most important phase while creating a secured network. Network architecture will
discuss the design of network which has both software and hardware connectivity along with process
of transmission and communications in both wired or wireless networks. There are few topologies
(star, bus, loop or mesh) and types of networks (LAN, WAN or MAN) which are to be considered and
then need to work on the architecture accordingly.
The three sub areas which I have selected for Network Architecture are,
Planning of Network Design: A proper planning of a network design will always lead to better results.
Planning should be done in such a way that network should always run properly and should be secured
24/7. Strong firewalls and updated components are to be picked for proper planning of network. There
should always be a space in network so that we can either expand or add few more components to
network which will make network even more big. Blueprints of networks must be made prior to
network design because they are the ones which will be helpful in designing the actual network.
Data Transfers within the network: Making sure that data is

is what has helped us evolve and grasp new concepts and learn about the world around us. In the text
Diffusionist and Culture Area theories Alan Barnard looks at proof that diffusionism is used in our
society and that individuals from two very different cultures may invent objects or have similar ideas
even if they are both from two opposite places. He tries to prove that diffusionism does truly exist

Of course when new inventions are put into place, people stop using the previous invention because it
is now seen as obsolete or less useful. It reminds me of when new Apple cell phones or tablets get
released every year and customers rush to the store to buy their latest products and they get rid of their
old cellphone and their old tablets. That original invention does not stay relevant and the popularity of
that item surely diffuses because it has to make room for the new scientific and more advanced items
that are now being offered. Clothing trends are also another way that we see copying our society
because who decides what is in fashion and what is not? We do! And today we see the hipster clothing
trend taking over many different stores that it is almost impossible to avoid it. Previous to the hipster
style it was the emo/punk style. After a certain amount of time, a specific style diffuses and another
one takes over and becomes more popular. Diffusion is a way to filter out what is necessary to keep as
well as what we should throw away because it is not relevant

Student Number z3189074 Question 1
Toowoomba City is located 125km from Brisbane in Queensland on the Western side of the Great
Dividing Range. It consists of two main creek catchments, east creek and west creek catchments. In
January 2011 there was a main flooding event which caused a large flood event that is described as an
Inland Tsunami . Figure 1 Catchment map of Toowoomba identifying major hydraulic features. Source
[1]
The factors that contributed to the major storm was:
There was an initial rainfall even of 90mm which occurred over 24 hours before which caused the
catchments to be fully saturated. As a result any major rainfall events would be converted directly into
surface water runoff
Most of the catchments depicted in Figure 1 where fully urbanised which caused surfaces in the
catchment to be impervious; that is very little runoff would infiltrate into the ground
There were intense rainfall events that occurred over the Gowrie creek catchment; with an event
greater than a 100 year ARI storm experienced at the rainfall gauges
Due to the large intensities of rainfalls caused both East and West creeks to fill up. Due to both creeks
flowing in the same direction no drainage could occur to Gworiee creek causing inundation shown in

The Issues And Resource Implications For The Private Sector
According to Quote Addicts.com, The regulatory framework of missiles, much of which is new and
untested, possesses significant challenges and resource implications for the private sector. This quote
explains that the making of missiles and the framework of missiles have evolved and are being
constructed in a more advanced way. Missiles are made up of many different parts, which help them to
do many things such as to fly,to navigate, and to communicate with their controller. For example, the
patriot missile has a jet engine with air intake which helps the missile fly through the air. The patriot is
just one missile type. Interestingly, there are many different kinds of missiles which are designed in
different ways for various purposes. Overall, this is what the quote by Quote Addicts explains.
Nonetheless, the danger related to missile development and use must be recognized. As John F.
Kennedy states, Nuclear weapons are so destructive and ballistic missiles so swift, that any
substantially increased possibility of their sudden change in their development may well be regarded
as a definite threat to peace. This quote explains that if the design of missiles is improved, there will
be more war and military. This is because ninety percent of the time, many nuclear weapons,
especially missiles, end up in the wrong hands. Thus if weapons that can cause a lot of damage fall into
the hands of the wrong people, these people will use these weapons to destroy others. Overall,

microcosm of the reality[MSOffice1] of the U.S.A. He presents a world in which the salesmen are
dominated by the fact that they need to close the leads otherwise they lose their jobs. This is a world

You have to be prepared to stab others in the back and step on their faces in order to benefit yourself.
It is about control and domination, if you are in control then you have the power and you are a man. If
you are not in control, your not closing and you don t have the right attitude and brass balls, then you
are not a man and therefore have no place in real estate. An example of this is Shelly Levene, he keeps
reverting back to the past when he was closing and he was a good salesman. In effect he is actually
conning himself into think he is still good and is still able to close. The truth is he is not a man and not
able to close, he is losing his grip and as he is coming bottom of the board he is about to lose his job.

Social Practices And Education Will Be Contemplated Essay
Thousands of years after survival of the fittest human races depended upon instruments of warfare, the
pen, a tool not designed for combat, was declared mightier than the sword by Benjamin Franklin
(World of Quotes, 2003). Ironically it was one of the first human weapons, the sharpened stone, that
was a precursor to pen and paper when it was used to etch drawings upon cave wall dwellings (Bellis,
2004). Long use of these concrete implements forged abstractions of them. Pen and paper have been
interiorized into social practices and language (ex. back to the drawing board ), and have been
instrumental to the externalization of our innermost thoughts and emotions. Pen and paper will be
examined together as each is the other s raison d etre. The manifold impacts pen and paper had upon
industry, social practices and education will be contemplated.
Cave wall drawings were early means of non verbal self expression, and would empower the
development of symbol systems and alphabets that spurred the onset of literacy (Ong, 1982). Pen and
paper allowed humans to delve deeper into realms of communication and self expression, or perhaps
early mimicry of pen and paper indicated an innate predisposition for humans to express themselves
through this medium. Whatever the case may be, the earliest means which foreshadowed pen and
paper involved a stylus of bone, metal or ivory used to place marks on wax coated tablets called tabula
cevata. These inexpensive tablets were in widespread

Buddha vs Jesus
Christianity and Buddhism are two very prominent religions dating back from early years up until
today. Both are offshoots of other religions Christianity from Judaism, and Buddhism from Hinduism.
The Buddhists follow the teachings of Gautama Buddha, while Christianity is centered upon the life
and teachings of Jesus Christ. Christianity is monotheistic while Buddhism is nontheistic. Christians
believe that Christ is the son of God, while Buddhists do not believe in God as the creator of the
universe.
Buddhism dates back to Nepal, India in the 5th century BCE. The early followers of Buddhism were a
community of monks called the sangha. The literal meaning of Buddhism is those who follow the
teachings of Buddha. The teachings of the Buddha are often referred to as the dharma , which also
means cosmic law and order.
The ethical guidelines of Buddhism are not to murder, lie, steal, drink, or participate in unlawful
sexual behavior. Buddhists believe in the Four Noble Truths: 1) human life is full of suffering; 2)
suffering stems from cravings for pleasure and avoidance of pain; 3) suffering can be eradicated; 4)
the path of freedom from suffering is the path of enlightenment. (Julia Hardy) They also follow the

The union of man and woman is universally and socially acknowledged by the institution of marriage.
It is one of the oldest rituals to be practiced even today in every parts of the world. Marriage is an
important part of the traditional African society and is one of the largely reflected issues in African
literature. According to Lauretta Ngcobo, in her essay entitled African Motherhood Myth and Reality
which appeared in Criticism and Ideology: Second African Writers Conference, Stockholm 1986

emotions and intellectualism, never idealizes her African traditional customs and beliefs which put
enormous pressure upon the woman relegating her to the margin. Chikwenye Okonjo Ogunyemi, in
this regard, states that Emecheta deals mainly with the black woman as the victim of black patriarchy
(1985: 67). She captures every detail of the traditional customs that makes womankind a victim. As
for instance, the practice of polygamy in which African man like Okonkwo appear as symbolic
representation of male hegemony which leaves the African women like Ma Blackie and Aku nna with
no voice of their own as well as the malpractices of cutting of lock of hair of the women and declaring
them as wives by the traditional African men. Women have been represented as the weaker sex or the
second sex and stereotyped with negative qualities such as sensitive, emotional, fragile, indecisive,
submissive etc. To quote Simone de Beauvoir in this context: To be feminine is to appear weak, futile,

Superheroes are strong promotions for American propaganda. The Justice League, even Avengers
from Marvel are fighting alongside the American president and with American law. But that doesn t
always mean that they re doing the right thing. Superman and other heroes have been aware. Even in
issue #900 of Action Comics, Superman renounced his American citizenship, and this wasn t his first

It s a darker world, with darker endings for many surrounding characters. Cyborg s hero story is cut

The entrance is wicked. It s bloody, fast paced, and it pulls you into their world quickly. The military

Artificial Selection Research Paper
Evolution is a real thing that happened and is still happening today, there is so much evidence to prove
it. We have the fossil record, we know how natural selection works and how and why it happens, and
we know how artificial selection works and that we use it all of the time today. There is just too much
evidence to call evolution just a theory.
The fossil record is the history of life, as documented by fossils. The fossil record can show us so
many things, from the history of how homosapiens evolved into what were are today to how whales
were once furry, four legged land animals. The fact that we share roughly 50 percent of our DNA with
a banana is pretty astounding, but if you were to follow our family tree back far enough, you would
find that every single one of us, human or not, share a common ancestor. Yes, it is pretty hard to
believe but it makes sense if you really think about it. If we have 98% of the same genes as
chimpanzees, 80% of similar genes as cows, and 60% of similar genes as a fruit ... Show more content

Have you ever wondered how we got different types of dogs or cats? Artificial selection! Around
27,000 40,000 years ago the hunter gatherers began to tame wolves to have as hunting companions.
The people would eventually begin to breed their wolves so that they would have certain traits like
hair length, color, size, sharpness of teeth, tail length, and just about everything in between. When
people realized that they could control how animals would look, they started experimenting to see
what all they could make. This is how artificial selection works. Humans discover that they can
change an animal s characteristics, they discover traits that make the animals more pleasing to people
(desired traits), and they use these traits to make animals that are best suited for whatever people want
and/or need them

Parkinson Disease ( Pd )
Parkinson Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease symptomized by tremor, muscular rigidity, and
slow imprecise movements. Typically, the disease affects middle aged and elderly individuals. PD is
associated with degeneration of the basal ganglia of the brain causing a deficiency of the
neurotransmission of dopamine. (1). Given what you know about the members of the family, analyze
and comment on the potential effects this condition/illness might have on them. Since Mr. Olsen
(Frederic) has transitioned to an Assisted Living community, the family most likely have a sense of
relief in logic he will be taken care of in regards to his activities of daily living (ADLs) such as
feeding, dressing, grooming, bathing, assisting with mobility and homemaking (Atlas, S. J., Matthews,
J.R., Fritsvold, E., Vinall, P.E. 2014). Albeit the physical limitations for the family have been
comforted, the psychological effects on the family members are drastic. Most people are shameful of
the disease; and ridiculously religious people look at the disease as response to a sin. On a micro
perspective family members, may face an economic burden from admitting Mr. Olsen into an Assisted
Living home. On top of that, they must figure out a schedule that will be conducive for them to take
Mr. Olsen back and forth to his doctor visits. (2). How might the various family members react to
them? John Ella s husband probably feel that he should try another alternative such as the Native

B Wells Red Record Summary
1. An example of whites lynching blacks in the South.
Ida. B wells can be considered to be among the greatest African American civil rights activists because
of her stand on the lynching of people of color in the South. She was also affected by the primitive
behavior of white men at the time as her newspaper s office was destroyed because of the opinion it
raised. One of the examples Wells gives of whites lynching blacks was of Ebenezer Fowler who was
the richest black man in his town. He was accused of having a romantic relationship with a white
woman because of the romantic letter he sent her. At the time, the white men were allowed to seduce
any woman but if a black man tried to have a romantic relationship with a white woman it was
declared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They saw their actions as a way to gain control over the black people and create a boundary between
them. They wanted to gain superiority. To justify their actions, they also accused black people of
killings, rape, and theft.
3. How white violence and intimidation prevented black people from exercising their civil rights.
White violence and intimidation created fear among the black people as they feared for their lives. The
hostile environment against the black people was a major factor in preventing them from exercising
their civil rights. They feared if they exercised their civil rights, they would be accused of killings,
rape or theft and be lynched. They opted to stay put rather than risk their lives.
Hi Acheton,
I like your analysis of the document. I totally agree it is through the actions of civil rights activists like
Ida B. Wells that the plight of African Americans in the United States changed for the better. Black
people in this country have gone through hard times and it is commendable how they have managed to
rise through the ranks and play a major role in the country s politics and economy. It is also
heartbreaking to know that white people tried to justify their actions which were unacceptable in the
first place. Generally, I believe that the country has made large steps to reduce the racial gap and we
can say we are moving in the right

How To Keep Food On Landfill
Keeping Food on the Plate, and out of Landfill s We as people probably don t realize how much good
food we throw away every day and how much of it lands in a landfill where so much of it goes to
waste. So much of perfectly good food is being thrown away when it could go to someone who really
needs it. Although I concede that the best buy and use by labels law is a big contributor to landfills, I
still insist that people overbuying food is one of the biggest contributors to landfills. Let s start out by
discussing why landfills are becoming largely filled with perfectly good food. Some people when they
go grocery shopping feel like they need to have a full fridge and panty but when in reality half the
food they buy ends up going in the trash. Some people also have food go to waste because they don t
know how to properly store leftovers and ways to keep it fresh and last longer. Whenever you buy
something there will be a label on their that will either say use by this date or best buy this date. Some
people only go by the dates and think since its past the date we need to throw it away. Households are
not the only place where food is coming from that ends up in a landfill. Now let s discuss the reasons
why the food label law is not one of the big contributors to the landfills. ... Show more content on

Most of the food that ends up in landfill is fresh produce such as fruits and vegetables. Most people
will probably never realize how much food they throw away. Landfills just keep getting bigger
because of this issue. With the effective ways to help store food properly or donate uneaten food
should help the amount of food going into your garbage can and a landfill. With how much we throw
away puts all the hard work the workers did to make the food and transport to waste. It s a good thing
they have food banks that are willing to take food donations and give them to people who really need

  • 2. Essay on Animal Rights is a Cause for Vegetarianism Animal Rights Cause for Vegetarianism The choice of eating meat or not has been a debated issue for a continued number of years. There have long since been two sides: the proponents and opponents of meat consumption. More and more debates of its value and effect on the world have risen. Many claim it is wrong, while others think of it as a needed pleasure. Today, a greater percentage of the population eats meat. Only a few individuals seek the alternative route. Yet nowadays, there is just the opposite of vegetarianism in compliance of these ancient texts. quot;Although meat eating has been denied to the human form by God and his sons and daughters of the past, people still adopt the process. quot; Such are the statements of devout followers who adhere to a meat free diet in accordance to scriptural texts. Those who advocate vegetarianism profess that many people are weak of heart and so succumb to meat eating. While those who advocate a meat oriented diet say that a meat diet is essential for a normal and healthy life, for they provide protein. [The Dutch chemist, Gerrit Jari Mulder, in his experiments, has proved in 1838, that protein is biologically essential, for every living creature needs a certain amount to survive. This fact about protein is due to the presence of amino acids, the building blocks quot; of life.] While it is true that animals provide essential protein for the human body, scientific reports have provided additional information that may seem to support a vegetarian viewpoint. • 4. Energy, Water, And Food 1. Abstract Energy, water, and food are interdependent on one another. Water is the main contributor for the production of agriculture along with other food substances. The distribution of water is reliant on energy. Energy is used to pump water from the ground. Water is used in agricultural irrigation and energy is used to harvest the crops for food. All three sectors are indicators of a strong society. The relationships between these three sectors come with a cost. High amounts of energy are used to extract water. Extraction is both monetarily and environmentally costly. Using water in irrigation diverts river flows. Energy can be produced from rivers but diverting water to agriculture creates a lower flow. The balance of the trade offs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Energy security is the concept that government should protect its citizens from crises that may arise between the availability and consumption of energy. Challenges are seen in the manipulation of power supplies because of uneven distribution to competition for energy resources. Food security is emphasized by the access to a supply of food. The limited availability of food arose from factors such as droughts, war, energy shortages. • 5. The Disocial Model Of Disability 1.1 Outline the history and development of the medical, social and psychosocial models of disability The medical model of disability With the Age of Enlightenment in the 18th century there came a more scientific understanding of the causes of disability and with it a sense of confidence in medical science s ability to cure, or rehabilitate disabled people. Some disabled people were deemed incurable and placed in long stay institutions and special schools. A notion of normality was based on assessments of disability against normality (what a person can t do, instead of what a person can do.) This does not take away the very necessary role of medical science in keeping many disabled people alive/reducing pain and discomfort. The medical model sees disabled people as the problem. They need to be adapted to fit into the world as it is. If this isn t possible, then they should have only their basic needs met. The emphasis is on dependence. The disability is focused on, rather than the needs of the person. The power to change disabled people appeared to lie with in the medical profession, with talk of cures, normalisation and science. Often, disabled people s lives are handed over to these professionals. Their decisions affect where disabled people go to school/what support they get/where they live/if they can work. The Disability Movement points out how the built environment/society imposes limitations on disabled people. Medical model thinking would say ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the outside, we see sexes that are the biological differences in individuals, but what about the concept of gender? The expectations that society creates about men and women establish these levels of association people gather together. The sex appeal from the candy gives off a vibe to men that if they purchase this product, they will be satisfied. Not only is it seen through a cartoon candy, but in real life women too. The intensity increases for products that more older men would see. As seen on television, the well known Hardee s commercials utilize women as a way to pair burgers with romance. These commercials vary in magnitude, but one of the more vulgar ones is the all natural burger. For them, is was supposedly to support a solution of Yugoslav unity but instead focused depently on disapproving president Tito s ways. In fact in 1987, the president of Serbia, Slobodan Milošević, was openly supportive of the document and was even the spokes person for it. Analysis Douglass s Narrative displays how white slaveholders continue slavery by keeping their slaves uninformed. At the time Douglass was writing, many people thought that slavery was a normal state of being. They believed that blacks were naturally incapable of participating in civil society and thus should be kept as labors for whites. The Narrative explains the tactics and measures by which whites gain and keep power over blacks from their birth onward. Slave owners keep slaves uninformed of basic facts about themselves, such as their birth date or their parents. This enforced ignorance deprives children of their natural sense of distinct identity. As slave children grow up, slave owners prevent them from learning to read and write, as learning would give them a sense of self sufficiency and capability. Slave masters understand that knowledge would lead slaves to question the right of whites to keep slaves. Lastly, by keeping slaves illiterate, Southern slave masters maintain control over what the rest of America knows about slavery. If slaves cannot write, their picture of the slavery story cannot be told. Wendell Phillips states this point in his prefatory letter to the Narrative. Just as slave masters keep people as slaves by depriving them of knowledge and education, slaves need to seek knowledge and education in order to track freedom. • 14. Literary Elements In The Tale Tell Heart By Edger Allen Poe McBride, Wayne 16 Nov. 2017 Robinson Eng. 101 The short story the Tale Tell Heart, Edger Allen Poe uses many literary elements to show the theme of the story. Some of the literary elements that Poe uses are first person narrator, interior monologue, stream of consciousness, and cosmic irony. With these elements Poe displays the theme of the story which is, we are afraid of the things we don t understand and a guilty conscience will win out in the end. First person narration is throughout this story by using tense language as if he was telling you this in person. By using this element of first person narration it is able appeal more to the reader in an emotional way. The reader feels as if the protagonist is personally telling them the story about the old man. In the first paragraph Poe addresses the audience as if a question had just been asked to the protagonist if he was mad, The Protagonist responds with this the first paragraph of the story. True nervous very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses not destroyed not dulled them. Above all was the sense of hearing acute. I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell. How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily how calmly I can tell you the whole story. (41) The way Poe has the Protagonist exclaim that his is indeed not mad, is using emotional appeal to the reader. Interior monologue all throughout the story, this is mostly how the narrator speaks to the audience. By using interior monologue Poe uses logical appeal to show why the Protagonist wanted to kill the old man. The Protagonist states that the old man has never done anything to him and has always been pleasant to be around, it is the old man s eye, his blind eye that the Protagonist is afraid of. We know this because of what the Protagonist says in the second paragraph, I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult. For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees very gradually I ... In order for one to be diagnosed, one must meet four criterion. Criteria A is recurrent episodes of binge eating characterized by the following; eating in a discrete period of time (2 hours), and amount of food that is larger than most individuals would eat in a similar period and the second a sense of lack of control over eating during the episode (DSM v, 2013, p. 346). Women who are bulimic tend to eat a vast amount of food in a short period of time just to purge as a result. This intensity it of consuming, must happen in a moderate amount of time in order to be considered bulimic. Better understood by Abraham (2008) she states, an episode of binge eating occurs when the woman s resistance to eating fails and she has an irresistible desire to eat (p. 280). This type of behavior represents a sense of lack of control. Women who binge have a hard time stopping and controlling what and how much they are consuming. Going back to the toast at Frida and Diego s wedding, marriage was stated to be a political act that occurred in the name of tradition. Monogamy is also enforced by culture, economics, social factors and it is the normal thing to do (Robinson). As we saw in the movie, Frida s mother was highly opposed to her marriage to Diego because he had been divorced twice already and because he was a Communist; her fear was that he would not be good to Frida. Even in society today, when a man and woman are not monogamous, they are frowned upon or referred to in derogatory terms. Research shows that promiscuity raised the likelihood of reproduction and survival, but monogamy worked where there was a low female to male ratio, limiting men s options (Borreli, Are Humans Naturally Monogamous?). Until Diego crossed the boundaries of having sex with Frida s sister, their relationship seemed to work for them. Borreli noted that researchers found non monogamous people have specific differences in how their brain responded to reward, described as a cheater s high, attributed to mutations in receptor genes that respond to the hormone vasopressin. Math began with early humans in the form of scratches and was carried into ancient Egypt and Greece (Mastin).Today, Egypt s population is roughly 94 million (The World Factbook). However, back in 3000 BC, scholars estimate that between one to four million people lived in the Nile River Valley. The Egyptians called this region Kemet which translates to Black Land (O Connor and Robertson; Lesko 135 44). Base ten is a numbering system that uses a decimal for any number smaller than one. Once a number exceeds nine it moves to the next place (the tens place) (Russel). Furthermore, the Egyptians could also estimate the area of a circle by guessing that if the area of a circle with a diameter of nine units was close to the area of a square with sides of eight units, that the area of that circle could be calculated by multiplying the diameter by 8⁄9 and then squaring it (Mastin). A timocracy first comes into being due to human error of the guardians. The guardians are not perfect, so when choosing the next generation of guardians to educate, they will not always choose the best candidates. Since the current guardians will not always select the children with gold souls, the aristocracy will eventually degenerate into a less just society. Some new rulers will attempt to preserve the old and just ways, while the less benevolent rulers will want private property among guardians, creating tension in the ruling class. Men will start to pervert the laws in that direction, that direction being for profit (550d11). Wealth is then equated to honor, and naturally things deemed honorable are those that citizens seek to achieve. A change is made in the city s fundamental governing doctrine; the change states that only those with a certain amount of wealth can rule the city. This is the birth of the oligarchic regime. Only citizens of a certain economic status have any political power. Those who have the political power then wish to keep the power, and will abuse their lawmaking ability to oppress the poor. Rulers will do whatever they can to keep the poor where they are, so that the lower class cannot replace the current rulers as lawmakers. The factions of rich and poor create a city doomed to fail. All the problems of the oligarchy can be traced back to equating wealth to honor and the descent from timocracy to the oligarchy itself. Socrates notes 5 distinct problems of the oligarchy, the first being the distribution of political power. Due to the standard of wealth required in the city, a wise, just, and virtuous man could not become a ruler if he is poor. If a true philosopher king existed, but was poor, he could not rule the city. This inevitably will lead to more injustice and harm done to the city, for those who are unfit to rule are the only ones with political power. If wealth was never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Issues And Resource Implications For The Private Sector According to Quote Addicts.com, The regulatory framework of missiles, much of which is new and untested, possesses significant challenges and resource implications for the private sector. This quote explains that the making of missiles and the framework of missiles have evolved and are being constructed in a more advanced way. Missiles are made up of many different parts, which help them to do many things such as to fly,to navigate, and to communicate with their controller. For example, the patriot missile has a jet engine with air intake which helps the missile fly through the air. The patriot is just one missile type. Interestingly, there are many different kinds of missiles which are designed in different ways for various purposes. Overall, this is what the quote by Quote Addicts explains. Nonetheless, the danger related to missile development and use must be recognized. As John F. Kennedy states, Nuclear weapons are so destructive and ballistic missiles so swift, that any substantially increased possibility of their sudden change in their development may well be regarded as a definite threat to peace. This quote explains that if the design of missiles is improved, there will be more war and military. Social Practices And Education Will Be Contemplated Essay Thousands of years after survival of the fittest human races depended upon instruments of warfare, the pen, a tool not designed for combat, was declared mightier than the sword by Benjamin Franklin (World of Quotes, 2003). Ironically it was one of the first human weapons, the sharpened stone, that was a precursor to pen and paper when it was used to etch drawings upon cave wall dwellings (Bellis, 2004). Long use of these concrete implements forged abstractions of them. Pen and paper have been interiorized into social practices and language (ex. back to the drawing board ), and have been instrumental to the externalization of our innermost thoughts and emotions. Pen and paper will be examined together as each is the other s raison d etre. The manifold impacts pen and paper had upon industry, social practices and education will be contemplated. Cave wall drawings were early means of non verbal self expression, and would empower the development of symbol systems and alphabets that spurred the onset of literacy (Ong, 1982). Pen and paper allowed humans to delve deeper into realms of communication and self expression, or perhaps early mimicry of pen and paper indicated an innate predisposition for humans to express themselves through this medium. • 39. Artificial Selection Research Paper Evolution is a real thing that happened and is still happening today, there is so much evidence to prove it. We have the fossil record, we know how natural selection works and how and why it happens, and we know how artificial selection works and that we use it all of the time today. There is just too much evidence to call evolution just a theory. The fossil record is the history of life, as documented by fossils. The fossil record can show us so many things, from the history of how homosapiens evolved into what were are today to how whales were once furry, four legged land animals. The fact that we share roughly 50 percent of our DNA with a banana is pretty astounding, but if you were to follow our family tree back far enough, you would find that every single one of us, human or not, share a common ancestor. Yes, it is pretty hard to believe but it makes sense if you really think about it. If we have 98% of the same genes as chimpanzees, 80% of similar genes as cows, and 60% of similar genes as a fruit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Have you ever wondered how we got different types of dogs or cats? Artificial selection! Around 27,000 40,000 years ago the hunter gatherers began to tame wolves to have as hunting companions. The people would eventually begin to breed their wolves so that they would have certain traits like hair length, color, size, sharpness of teeth, tail length, and just about everything in between. When people realized that they could control how animals would look, they started experimenting to see what all they could make. This is how artificial selection works. Humans discover that they can change an animal s characteristics, they discover traits that make the animals more pleasing to people (desired traits), and they use these traits to make animals that are best suited for whatever people want and/or need them ... (1). Given what you know about the members of the family, analyze and comment on the potential effects this condition/illness might have on them. Since Mr. Olsen (Frederic) has transitioned to an Assisted Living community, the family most likely have a sense of relief in logic he will be taken care of in regards to his activities of daily living (ADLs) such as feeding, dressing, grooming, bathing, assisting with mobility and homemaking (Atlas, S. J., Matthews, J.R., Fritsvold, E., Vinall, P.E. 2014). Albeit the physical limitations for the family have been comforted, the psychological effects on the family members are drastic. Most people are shameful of the disease; and ridiculously religious people look at the disease as response to a sin. On a micro perspective family members, may face an economic burden from admitting Mr. Olsen into an Assisted Living home. On top of that, they must figure out a schedule that will be conducive for them to take Mr. Olsen back and forth to his doctor visits. (2). How might the various family members react to them? • 41. B Wells Red Record Summary 1. An example of whites lynching blacks in the South. Ida. B wells can be considered to be among the greatest African American civil rights activists because of her stand on the lynching of people of color in the South. She was also affected by the primitive behavior of white men at the time as her newspaper s office was destroyed because of the opinion it raised. One of the examples Wells gives of whites lynching blacks was of Ebenezer Fowler who was the richest black man in his town. He was accused of having a romantic relationship with a white woman because of the romantic letter he sent her. At the time, the white men were allowed to seduce any woman but if a black man tried to have a romantic relationship with a white woman it was declared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They saw their actions as a way to gain control over the black people and create a boundary between them. They wanted to gain superiority. To justify their actions, they also accused black people of killings, rape, and theft. 3. How white violence and intimidation prevented black people from exercising their civil rights. White violence and intimidation created fear among the black people as they feared for their lives. The hostile environment against the black people was a major factor in preventing them from exercising their civil rights. They feared if they exercised their civil rights, they would be accused of killings, rape or theft and be lynched. They opted to stay put rather than risk their lives. Hi Acheton, I like your analysis of the document. I totally agree it is through the actions of civil rights activists like Ida B. Wells that the plight of African Americans in the United States changed for the better. Black people in this country have gone through hard times and it is commendable how they have managed to rise through the ranks and play a major role in the country s politics and economy. It is also heartbreaking to know that white people tried to justify their actions which were unacceptable in the first place. Generally, I believe that the country has made large steps to reduce the racial gap and we can say we are moving in the right ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. How To Keep Food On Landfill Keeping Food on the Plate, and out of Landfill s We as people probably don t realize how much good food we throw away every day and how much of it lands in a landfill where so much of it goes to waste. So much of perfectly good food is being thrown away when it could go to someone who really needs it. Although I concede that the best buy and use by labels law is a big contributor to landfills, I still insist that people overbuying food is one of the biggest contributors to landfills. Let s start out by discussing why landfills are becoming largely filled with perfectly good food. Some people when they go grocery shopping feel like they need to have a full fridge and panty but when in reality half the food they buy ends up going in the trash. Some people also have food go to waste because they don t know how to properly store leftovers and ways to keep it fresh and last longer. Whenever you buy something there will be a label on their that will either say use by this date or best buy this date. Some people only go by the dates and think since its past the date we need to throw it away. Households are not the only place where food is coming from that ends up in a landfill. Now let s discuss the reasons why the food label law is not one of the big contributors to the landfills. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
