Spain Sub Prime Crisis
Name of the University Master Thesis Banking system reforms after the subprime crises Study
case: Spain Author:| Supervisor:| | | Department of ................................. January 2014 Abstract How
did the Subprime Crisis, a small problem of U.S. financial markets, affect the entire global
banking system? The aim of this paper is to analyze the effect of the subprime crisis on the
banking sector in Europe, with a close attention on the case of Spain. Spain is currently facing the
worst crisis ever experienced in its financial history, so it would be interesting to analyze what is
the real situation of the banking sector and what will be the reforms that could lead to a
consolidation of the financial systems. The strengths... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have different shapes and sizes, taking different forms during time, and usually spread
across borders. Financial crises are often the product of asset and credit booms that eventually
turn into busts. This booms can be identify in time but no one still has an answer of why they are
allowed to continue, knowing that can rapidly become unsustainable and turn into busts or
crunches. The subprime crisis: origins and evolutionThe subprime crisis is an over studied topic
studied by a vast number of thinkers trying to establish the cause and to find the culpable for the
greatest economic collapse since great depression. Trying to point out a single cause as the root
of the crisis is however impossible as our current situation is the results of a set of political,
economic and social policies. A lot of literature is dedicated to the subprime crises subject, all
finding guilt in the management and moral hazard existent in the American economy. It all started
on the American continent and soon became viral thru all the world s economies. The
interdependence of countries created a wave effect, so all the symptoms of the crises could be
seen in different time periods, in the whole world. The growths catches a faster pace with the help
of financial instruments that were created to provide liquidity to the markets. So we could see the
widespread securitization of mortgages pushing the credit market to develop under

American Youth Sports Essay
Youth Athletics in America This year nearly 45 million youth between the ages of 6 and 18 will
take part in organized sports in America. On one side of the field you have those that support it
and want to see this increased and even more opportunities for the youth. On the other side there
are those that are looking to have it limited or removed. Why is this important to our country and is
it really more than just kids out there having fun? The benefits of sports are far reaching and offer
life changing lessons and habits that will help our children in the future. Youth in America are
facing some tough statistics when it comes to physical and mental health. According to Let

Participating and being a part of a team helps youth develop social skills and abilities that help
them through the teen years. The Journal of School Health, published a study that states, Findings
showed that frequent, vigorous activity reduced the risk of hopelessness and suicidality among
male adolescents. However, low levels of activity actually increased the risk of feeling hopeless
among young females. Yet, both males and females, sports participation protected against
hopelessness and suicidality. This is a major incentive to help youth find a sportto participate in.
There have also been other studies that show a reduction in high risk behaviors. A group of
researchers recently looked at available sports programs to the youth of Los Angeles. They found
some great correlations indicating that those students that participated in high school sports were
less likely to be arrested, contract STD s, or be involved in teen pregnancies (Cohen). The positive
influences and extra activities provide outlets for youth and keep them out of trouble. With this
information communities should be lining up behind their schools to give more opportunities for

New Transit System for Sunshine Coast
As a consequence of the rapidly increasing population of the Sunshine Coast, and therefore rising
transport demand, various suggestions have been made in regards to the establishment of a new
transit system. Currently, the most favoured option in regards to alternative transport on the
Sunshine Coast is that of a light rail line which would link all major destinations and attractions
within the region as well as connect with bus and train services in hinterland communities
(Deutscher, 2013). In addition, present studies conducted by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council
(2013) detail that the light rail would extend from Caloundra to Maroochydore, via the University
of the Sunshine Coast. However, the development of the light rail line along this route would
involve crossing Currimundi Creek, a critical environmental and tourism feature of the Sunshine
Coast. The distinctive and biodiverse environments of this area are crucial for the sustainment of
certain conditions that various species rely on for survival (Williams, 2010). Moreover, the
Currimundi Catchment is also the habitatof multiple species with Conservation Status as detailed in
the Nature Conservation Act 1992 and the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation
Act 1999 (Department of the Environment, 2013). Based on the field work studies completed by
local students, as well as the data of secondary sources such as the Griffith Centre for Coastal

A Sexual Reproduction
ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION
Asexual reproduction is a mode of reproduction by which offspring arise from a single parent, and
inherit the genes of that parent only; it is reproduction which does not involve meiosis, ploidy
reduction, or fertilization. The offspring will be exact genetic copies of the parent. A more stringent
definition is agamogenesis which is reproduction without the fusion of gametes. Asexual
reproduction is the primary form of reproduction for single celled organisms such as the
archaea, bacteria, and protists. Many plants and fungi reproduce asexually as well.
While all prokaryotes reproduce asexually (without the formation and fusion of gametes),
mechanisms for lateral gene transfer such as conjugation, transformation and ... Show more content

Plants that reproduce vegetatively may form a clonal colony, where all the individuals are clones,
and the clones may cover a large area.
SPORE FORMATION
Many multicellular organisms form spores during their biological life cycle in a process called
sporogenesis. Exceptions are animals and some protists, who undergo gametic meiosisimmediately
followed by fertilization. Plants and many algae on the other hand undergo sporic meiosis where
meiosis leads to the formation of haploid spores rather than gametes.
FRAGMENTATION
Fragmentation is a form of asexual reproduction where a new organism grows from a fragment of
the parent. Each fragment develops into a mature, fully grown individual. Fragmentation is seen in
many organisms such as animals (some annelid worms, turbellarians and sea stars), fungi, and
plants. Some plants have specialized structures for reproduction via fragmentation, such asgemmae
in liverworts.
AGAMOGENESIS
Agamogenesis is any form of reproduction that does not involve a male gamete. Examples are
parthenogenesis and apomixis. Parthenogenesis is a form of agamogenesis in which an unfertilized
egg develops into a new individual. Parthenogenesis occurs naturally in many plants, invertebrates
(e.g. water fleas, rotifers, aphids, stick insects, some ants, bees and parasitic wasps), and vertebrates
(e.g. some reptiles, amphibians, fish, very rarely birds).

House On Mango Street Book Assignment
Book Assignment For this book assignment I decided to read the book The House on Mango
Street by Sandra Cisneros. Cisneros uses a series of vignettes to tell the story of Esperanza
Cordero and a year of her life on Mango Street. Esperanza is a 12 year old Mexican American
girl, or Chicana, living in a congested Latino neighborhood located in the more poorer area of
Chicago. The story begins with Esperanza s family moving to a new house on Mango street
which she describes as an upgrade from their previous house but it is still not the home her heart
desires. Esperanza has big dreams of eventually leaving Mango Street and owning her own real
house with a big yard and multiple washrooms, just like the ones she sees on television.
Esperanza s journey into maturity and development is described through these interestingly
written vignettes. She begins writing poetry as a way of expressing the events happening in her
life such as developing friends, puberty and sprouting hips, and even dealing with sexual assault.
The first half of the book begins with Esperanza wanting to continue to play in her little child
bubble but is pushed into the world of adulthood when dealing with the deaths of her grandfather
and Aunt Lupe and when she is abruptly kissed by an older man while at her first job. Esperanza
also writes about her neighbors and happenings of the neighborhood to paint a picture of the
different paths in life that are available to her. She switches her interest to the older women of the
neighborhood who each... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

##arison Of Realism In The Notorious Jumping Frog Of...
In the mid nineteenth century, a literary movement began in America as a form of rejection of
romanticism. This movement was called Realism. In contrast to romanticism, which promoted
idealism, positivism, and subjectivity, Realism was a literary technique which attempted to portray
the society as it was presented in the ordinary life. One of the pioneer of Realism was Henry
James. In his essay Art of Fictionhe described realism not as an attempt to picture someone s life
experiences but rather as a way to evoke a sense of reality in the mind (554) on the reader.
Although Mark Twains short story The Notorious Jumping Frogof Calaveras County was written
fifteen years before this approach of realism, it is an example of realism as defined by Henry
James, for it succeeds to create an illusion of reality by using three capital tools: the plausibility of
the event, the emphasis on the characters, and the stress on the details of the environment.
According to Henry James, one of the characteristics of realism is the plausibility of the event.
For him, a good novel uses imagination to create a story that can be plausible in real life. He
argues that experience is never limited, and it is never complete; it is an immense sensibility, a
kind of huge spider web of the finest silken threads suspended in the chamber of consciousness,
and catching every air borne particle in its tissue (James 554), and [experience] is the very
atmosphere of the mind (James 554). He also gives

Theme Of Symbolism In Great Expectations
Charles Dickens s Great Expectations contains a lot of symbolism throughout the book, there are
symbols of isolation, manipulation, and people wanting to be something they are not. The names of
the characters in the story Great Expectations symbolize who they are and how they act. These are
all seen in the book through the characters of Estella, Abel Magwitch, Miss Havisham, Pip, and
Biddy. Estella, French for star, implies radiance and exquisiteness like a star, likewise, Dickens s
character, Estella, in Great Expectationsis inaccessible and cold like a star, too. Also, like a star,
men love to gaze upon her, but cannot touch her because she has been trained by her adoptive
mother, Miss Havisham, to have no feeling and no empathy for others. She has been taught to be
cold and calculating and to break the heart of any man who makes the mistake of falling in love
with her. Additionally, Estella symbolizes isolation and manipulation; she has been locked away
for years in the impenetrable prison of Miss Havisham s making, far away from the carefree and
caring life a young girl deserves. She teases and manipulates boys and later, men into loving her
only become ice cold and break their hearts. Estella tells Pip, that I have no softness there, no
sympathy sentiment nonsense. (Chapter 29) Estella manipulates Pip as a young boy and plays
with his feelings as she leads him on to make him believe that he has a chance of loving her and
being loved in return when she allows

Stylistic Devices In The Kite Runner
Analysis of The Kite Runner
The book: The Kite Runner , (2003) by Khaled Hosseini, describes the life of Amir, whose
experience of growing up parallels the developments in his home country: Afghanistan. These
similarities are reflected in the bildungsroman through a variety of symbols and stylistic devices.
Specifically, the use of invective language Amir calling his half brother a Hazaara boy (Hosseini,
2003, p. 275) and the Taliban glorifying their crimes as ethnic cleansing (Hosseini, 2003, p. 261)
reveals a long standing history racism in society. In other words, the prominence of discrimination
in daily life is displayed through the clash between social classes on both a personal and a cultural
level. In my opinion, the embodiment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Telecommuting Essay example
Telecommuting
As defined in Webster s New World Dictionary, Third Edition, telecommuting is quot;an electronic
mode of doing work outside the office that traditionally has been done in the office, as by computer
terminal in the employee s home. quot; Basically, it is working at home utilizing current
technology, such as computers, modems, and fax machines. Traditionally, people have commuted
by cars, buses, trains, and subways, to work and back. Through the innovation of telecommuting, ,
the actual necessity to change location in order to accomplish this task has been challenged on the
basis of concerns for energy conservation, loss of productivity, and other issues.

One can go to work simply by tossing on a robe and slippers, grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting
down to the terminal. You would no longer have to worry if the car will start, if your clothes are
neat, or if you re perfectly groomed.
That may still be important to you, but it no longer has to be. And you are no longer interrupted
by the idle chatter that inevitably takes place at the central work place some of it useful for your
work, but a lot of it is just a waste of time and a perpetual interruption. As quoted in
Computerworld, one telecommuter comments quot;I was feeling really cramped in our old office. I
find I can get much more done. It is much more quiet here at home. quot;
In addition, telecommuting reduces family related stress by allowing involvement with family and
flexibility in location of a remote worksite.
Working in the home offers people a greater opportunity to share quality time with family members,
to promote family values and develop stronger family ties and unity. Also, time saved through
telecommuting could be spent with family members constructively in ways that promote and foster
resolution of family problems. Since the actual location a telecommuter works from isn t relevant,
the person could actually move to another town. This would alleviate the stress caused when a
spouse has an opportunity to pursue his or her career in another town and must choose between a
new opportunity or no opportunity, because

1.What environmental issues does the New Belgium Brewing Company work to address? How has
NBB taken a strategic approach to addressing these issues? Why do you think the company has
taken such a strong stance towards sustainability?
A.One significant issue that NBB has to take into account is the amount of impact that they are
leaving on the environment. Another issue would be how much energy they are using. NBB
indeed has a proven track record of their company trying to reduce their needs. NBB has a smart

I believe NBB s focus of social responsibility does provide an advantage for the company. I think
that it will give their company a good name and ultimately save them money due to their
philanthropic efforts. Proven more now than ever, many people are seeking to buy products that in
some way give back to another important cause and NBB has had this approach since its origin.
Having the target market of, Beer connoisseurs that appreciate the high quality of NBB s
products, as well as the company s environment and ethical business practices, points out how this
has been a major contributor to how quickly success for the company has came over the years.
NBB doesn t just specifically focus on the social responsibility of their consumers but they also
focus on their employees. This is channeled through total encouraged financial transparency and
exceptional benefits. One way that the NBB encourages their employees to participate in the social
responsibility themselves is by offering paid time off. For every two hours of community service
employees are paid for one hour of work time. NBB also reaches out and supports community
charities. These charities are those that relate to energy efficient alternatives. The desire is with
community support, NBB is able to better build relationships with their consumers that will build
rapport.
3.What are the challenges associated with combining the need for growth with the need to
maintain customer intimacy and social responsibility? Does NBB risk losing focus on its core
beliefs if it grows too quickly?

Persuasive Essay On Healthy Lifestyle
The Healthy Lifestyle Everybody sees it everywhere. Lose 60 pounds in 6 weeks! Skinny is
what s in! Detox diet plan! It s a fair assumption to assume that the world, especially the United
States, is obsessed with being healthy. From celebrity workout programs to expensive diet
systems that make people lose weight, being fit is always what s mainly focused on in the
media, daily life, and nationwide. But with obsessions, come unhealthy actions and interests.
Most people that anyone knows is most likely upset with some aspect of themselves. Whether it
be the way they look, how they eat, or their lifestyle, obsession happens because of the nearly
impossible body types and lifestyles found on social media. On top of this, there are also
restrictions and challenges that come with eating a healthy diet that seem simply irradical to
address, and unhealthier foods are more available than ever. With these slowly arising issues,
anyone would think the nation is making it hard for themselves to be healthy. The society the
nation lives in is making it progressively harder and harder to be healthy because of the lifestyles
that are easier to achieve. While most agree that being healthy and active is a good thing, some
feel that being healthy is too much of a chore, and would rather point fun at the people who choose
to have more beneficial lifestyles. Many people in the nation contradict their wants to be in good
health by harassing others who already have healthy

Loneliness In Catcher In The Rye
In the beginning of The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger brings up the motif of loneliness and
depression which Holden reveals to the reader while at Pencey Prep. For example while writing
a essay for Stradlater, he reflects on how after Allie, Holden s brother died, Holden slept in the
garage, the night he died and [he] broke all the god damn window. (39). This reaction to inflict
pain on himself is evidence that the loss triggered severe emotional disturbances. Holden isolates
himself after a tragic event proving Allie s death is the cause for his loneliness. Also, while alone in
his dorm at Pencey writing a composition for Stradlater his roommate, Holden couldn t think of a

After Holden arrives in New York and takes a cab to his hotel, he damn near gave my kid sister
Phoebe a buzz, though. I certainly felt like talking to her on the phone. Somebody with sense
and all, (66). Holden wants to talk to Phoebe as he has been isolated from her and feels because
she is someone who he has a strong connection with, that she will make him less depressed
shown by him saying that she had sense. Also while Holden is in his hotel room in New York,
after his prostitute leaves, he felt depressed, then he began talking, sort of out loud, to Allie, (98).
Allie s death made Holden isolated form someone who was close to him. Him attempting to talk to
Allie shows how his loneliness and depression was caused by his isolation because he wants to try
to reconnect with Allie to end his loneliness. While on his way to a bar from the hotel, Holden
describes New York as making him feel lonesome and depressed and how he wished [he] could go
home and shoot the bull with old Phoebe, (81). Holden feels lonely and depressed in New York
because of his isolation from Phoebe, someone he loves. This is proved by how he describes that
he wishes he could go home and talk with her for a while. After getting to New York, Holden s
feelings still follow him as he feels lonely and depressed thinking about Phoebe and wanting to see

The Human Life Expectancy
Over the human life expectancy, performance of memory demonstrates extensive variety and
differences, with a generous increase in execution and performance over childhood and youth, a
sneak peak in young adulthood, and fast decrease with propelling grown up age. Memory
execution improves and increases amid youth and pre adulthood, and declines as the person hits
maturity or in old age. Among more youthful grown ups, better capacity to bind things to the
setting in which they were experienced is connected with higher working memoryexecution of the
individuals. This increasing and decreasing pattern of memoryapplies to both short term as well as
episodic memory. The arrangement of complex memory representations, going from perceptual
element to the development of higher order memories, ideas, and thoughts, fundamentally relies on
upon binding processes. A study was conducted to analyze the degree to which age differences in
binding add to life expectancy age contrasts in short term memory (STM). Young kids, adolescents ,
more youthful grown ups, and grown ups worked on global and local short term recognition
fleeting acknowledgment assignments that are accepted to measure and judge item and item
context memory, individually. A two component framework was proposed of memory development
across life span of the individuals. There were certain assumptions taken into consideration in this
study. Given the inadequate data and evidence with respect to age related changes and

Causes And Effects Of Video Games
1 LastName Name Course Professor 5 December 2017 Video Game Addiction and Its Harmful
Effects Playing video games is a pastime that many children enjoy. It has been found that
National surveys of American youth ages 8 to 18 by the Kaiser Family Foundation ... found that
in 2005, 49% of children had a game console in their bedroom (Olson et al. 55). From this
information, it can be assumed that after school about half of the children come home and start
playing video games. The duration of time that children play these video games varies. In recent
times it is estimated that, ...adolescent girls played video games for an average of 5 h a week
whereas boys averaged 13 h a week. (Gentile et al. 5). Gaming, therefore, has become more than
just a fun activity, it has become an addiction. Addiction can be defined as ... with an
uncontrollable urge, often accompanied by a loss of control, a preoccupation with use, and a
desire to continue with the activity even though it creates problems (Skoric et al. 568). These
children feel the need to play video games, and it is taking over their lives. This addiction to video
games impacts many aspects of a child s life. As a result of this addiction, video games cause
difficulties at school, detrimental impact to relationships and teenage development. There has been
a link between poor school performance and difficulties at school with high usage of video games.

Iago s Jealousy In Othello, The Moor Of Venice
Othello is one of William Shakespeare s most famous dramas. Othello is called a tragedy and has
been a popular play throughout the history of literature and drama. The non shortened original
title of this play is The Tragedy of Othello, The Moor of Venice. There are several key points of
analysis that can be found when reading Othello. These include specific themes, irony, symbolism,
and tone. Each of these devices add to the overall meanings in a specific way, Shakespeare placed
them within the play for the reader to understand. The prominent theme in Othello is jealousy. It s a
theme that is present throughout the entire play. Iago, who the main villain of the play, is jealous of
Othello and the power he has. Iago s jealousy is what leads to the conflict later into the play. In the
beginning, Iago expresses his hate for Othello, One Micheal Cassio, a Florentine....As masterly as

In Shakespeare s time, this was not widely viewed as acceptable and this is why it causes conflict
in the play. Even though Othello has a high position of power and is highly respected, his race is
always brought into the picture and never seems to be forgotten. The tone of Othello is mostly
bitter. This is mainly due to Iago s conflict throughout. He influences the other characters, especially
Othello, and causes them to become bitter as well. Each character is emotionally affected by Iago
and his ability to get inside each individual mind. For example, Othello is overcome with emotions
from his heartbreak when finding out that Desdemona has been seeing Cassio that he kills
Desdemona and later himself. He also stabs Iago when he finds out all of the lies that he has told.
The irrational emotions and actions that follow make the ton depressing as

Bhd Syndrome Essay
1.1 Birt Hogg DubГ© Syndrome
Birt Hogg DubГ© (BHD) syndrome (OMIM 135150) is a rare, autosomal dominant, hamartoma
disorder which is characterized by benign tumours of the hair follicle (fibrofolliculomas), lung
cysts and pneumothorax (collapsed lung), and renal neoplasia. BHD was first described in 1977
by three Canadian doctors Birt, Hogg and DubГ© (Birt et al. 1977). The syndrome had also been
identified 1975 by Hornstein and Knickenberg (Hornstein Knickenberg 1975) and there has been
suggestion of renaming the disease to Hornstein Birt Hogg DubГ©, however due to confusion this
name was never used.

are susceptible to recurrent spontaneous pneumothorax. The study of 50 BHD families showed
88% of the families developed pulmonary cysts and 53% of the families had a history of
pneumothorax. In another study, Toro et al. reported a 93% pulmonary cyst presence in BHD
patients (Toro et al. 2007)(Toro et al. 2008). Pulmonary cysts are the most common BHD
manifestation, seen in up to 90 % of patients (Predina et al. 2011). It has been suggested that the
number of pulmonary cysts correlates with episodes of spontaneous pneumothoraces. Zbar et al.
identified an increase in the risk of pneumothorax for BHD affected individuals, which they
postulated to be due to the presence of pulmonary cysts (Zbar et al.

If they decide not to go to class, they are simply wasting their money. Tuition costs to attend a
university are really high. At dixie State University the average tuition cost is $4500 per year.
Many students are paying for tuition all on their own. The student has spent a lot of hours at work
to pay the tuition. If they want to waste their money, that is their choice. If they do not attend
class regularly, that is their loss and will cost them in the future. Students may not think about
this at the time but, not going to class or dropping out does not look good to future employers.
By missing class the student will have bad grades that the employer could look at. Having bad
grades makes getting a good job very difficult. They will not learn much from attending college.
They only reason a student would attend a college is to learn more. For a student to miss class
they will not have learned anything. In order for a student to learn they need to attend class. If the

Warfare In The Middle Ages
In the Middle Ages, which sprouted from the sacking of Rome by Germanic tribes, society became
more isolated and survivalism based, with merely living taking precedent over education and social
activity. This was truly a dark age, with Christianity providing the only hope during this feudalistic
and tumultuous time period. Throughout this time period, the clergy gained more and more power,
eventually sparking the Crusades. While they failed, they did open trade routes, bringing a better
economy to the Europeans. Also, governments eventually evolved, bringing in the Parliament, a
legislative group of knights, bishops, and lords. Finally, near the end of the Middle Ages, the black
death took about one third of the population of Europe, bringing in economic and social reforms.
Then, the Hundred Years War took place, marking the end of the Age of Faith.
The Middle Ages sprouted from several Germanic tribes plundering and sacking Rome due to the
Huns taking over their homelands, and other feuds between Roman leaders and the Germanic
representatives. After Rome s fall, certain tribes such as the Franks and ... Show more content on

She also helped Charles VII claim the throne, in 1429. In 1430 1431, the Burgundians captured and

Human Evolution
Human Evolution
Human Evolution, the biological and cultural development of the species Homo sapiens, or
human beings. A large number of fossil bones and teeth have been found at various places
throughout Africa, Europe, and Asia. Tools of stone, bone, and wood, as well as fire hearths,
campsites, and burials, also have been discovered and excavated. As a result of these discoveries, a
picture of human evolution during the past 4 to 5 million years has emerged.
Human Physical Traits Humans are classified in the mammalian order Primates; within this order,
humans, along with our extinct close ancestors, and our nearest living relatives, the African apes,
are sometimes placed together in the family Hominidae because of genetic ... Show more content on

Associated with these changes is a gradual reduction in the size of the face and jaws. In early
hominines, the face was large and positioned in front of the braincase. As the teeth became smaller
and the brain expanded, the face became smaller and its position changed; thus, the relatively small
face of modern humans is located below, rather than in front of, the large, expanded braincase.
Human Origins The fossil evidence for immediate ancestors of modern humans is divided into the
genera Australopithecus and Homo, and begins about 5 million years ago. The nature of the
hominine evolutionary tree before that is uncertain.
Between 7 and 20 million years ago, primitive apelike animals were widely distributed on the
African and, later, on the Eurasian continents. Although many fossil bones and teeth have been
found, the way of life of these creatures, and their evolutionary relationships to the living apes and
humans, remain matters of active debate among scientists. One of these fossil apes, known as
Sivapithecus, appears to share many distinguishing features with the living
Asian great ape, the orangutan, whose direct ancestor it may well be. None of these fossils,
however, offers convincing evidence of being on the evolutionary line leading to the hominid
family generally or to the human subfamily in particular. Comparisons of blood proteins and the
DNA of the African great apes with that of humans indicates that the line leading to modern people

Parkinson s Disease And Its Effects
Parkinson s Disease An estimated eight million people are living worldwide with Parkinson s
Disease. Parkinson s is a disease where the nerve cells, called neurons die in your brain. These
neurons that die produce a brain chemical, dopamine which is a neurotransmitter. As the neurons
die or become damaged the lack of dopamine creates the symptoms and disease. The neurons that
die are located in your Substantia Nigra in the brain. The nerve cell affects your entire nervous
system. The neurons transmit information to muscles, gland cells, or other nerve cells all over the
human body. The neurons in your brain are highly important because they transmit nerve signals to
and from the brain. According to Manfredsson, Neurons are excitable,... Show more content on

The dendrites of the cell body are branded out in a way to serve as a landing pad for the
information coming into the brain. Also, in Parkinson s no certain organelle is found to have a
higher count than the others. The neurons do not communicate with any other cell besides other
nerve cells. The Society for Neuroscience stated, Dendrites extend from the neuron cell body and
receive messages from other neurons. Synapses are the contact points where one neuron
communicates with another. The dendrites are covered with synapses formed by the ends of
axons from other neurons (2012, April 1). That is how nerve cells communicate with one another
but because nerve cells are in charge of the whole nervous system they don t interact with other
types of cells. Diagnosing a patient early into Parkinson s is difficult because all the symptoms
increasingly get worse. There is a large variety of symptoms a patient may see. The symptoms that
are primary motor skills include a resting tremor, bradykinesia which is slow movement, rigidity
which is the lack of flexibility in your limbs, and postural instability. Secondary Motor symptoms
are freezing, where you feel glued to the ground, micrographia, a shrinkage in handwriting, being
less expressive in the face, and unwanted accelerations like in your speech. Non motor symptoms
include loss of smell, constipation, having difficulty

The Faerie Queene By Edmund Spenser Analysis
This week s lecture is on The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser. This lecture focuses on Edmund
Spenser s life, the sources and influences that created Book I of The Faerie Queene , themes,
devices, and meaning, purpose of Book I, and The Legend of the Knight of the Red Cross .
Edmund Spenserwas born in 1552 to a modest family of modest means with a similar background
such as Marlowe and Shakespeare. Spenser was a well educated man much like Marlowe.
Spenser spent his first years of education at the Merchant Taylors School before attending
university. Edmund Spenser would go on to receive a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Arts
from Cambridge University. After university, Spenser would begin a career as a minor civil
servant where he was a personal secretary to men of power and influence. His work would lead
him to a few minor colonial government posts in Ireland. Afterwards, Edmund Spenser was
bestowed a castle and 3,000 acres of land in Munster, Ireland. However, the castle was burned
down into a rebel uprising. This was due to Spenser being disrespectful of the Irish and their
religion. Edmund Spenser would then go on to be a poet. He was creative and adventurous when
it came to his work. His greatest works are The Shepheardes Calendar and The Faerie Queene.
Spenser became a great influence to several poets such as Milton and other romantics. In the end,
Edmund Spenser became one of the greatest English poets of his time.
The Faerie Queene is similar to works of Beowulf because of its Anglo Saxon epics. Also, Book
I has a hint of classical and renaissance adventures. The Faerie Queene is a perfect combination of
themes and motifs that was already introduced in other assignments. This makes Spenser s The
Faerie Queene an epic poem. An epic poem is described as a long narrative in elevated style while
presenting characters of high positions in adventures thus forming an organic whole through their
relation to a central heroic figure and their development of events that play an important part to the
history of a nation or race. The common characteristics of the main character is that the hero is
played by a person of importance such who would have a historical or legendary significance. The

Boudicca the Revolt
The spoils of wars, invasions, rebellions, and triumphs have plagued British history. Yet, perhaps
one of the most defining moments of its past is the Icenian revolt led by Boudicca against the
Roman Rule in an attempt to re establish Celtic power, in 61 AD. With the revolt being largely
recounted by two of the most influential Roman historians of the ancient world, Cornelius Tacitus
and Cassius Dio, the British were successfully presented to be of a barbaric nature; leaving behind a
legacy of destruction and massacre that resulted in military failure and brought forth little success.
But despite the obvious Roman agenda that has been intertwined within the recounts of Tacitus and
Dio, they remain to be the only credible primary sources... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, both historians have recorded similar information in regards to the events and the aftermath. In
Tacitus The Annals , Boudicca s army destroyed Camulodunum and burnt down the Temple of
Claudius referred to as Citadel of Tyranny by Paul Sealey a major symbolic victory for the
Trinovantes, whose land was seized for the construction of the temple. The large army then
advanced to Londinium, where Suetonius was awaiting them. However, upon contemplation,
Suetonius decided to abandon Londinium to its fate on the basis of his army s numerical
inferiority, a decision that was morally criticized by Tacitus, unmoved by lamentations and appeals,
Suetonius gave the signal for departure. Tacitus portrays the rebels as barbaric during their
campaign, recounting that they could not wait to cut throats, hang, burn and crucify. Similarly, Dio,
in Roman History VIII also depicts the Britons as savages by describing in detail their methods of
torture, They hung up naked the noblest women and then cut off their breasts... After the rebels
ravaged Londinium and Verulamium, in an unknown location, Suetonius gathered his army of
10,000 men. Suetonius positioned his men in a position that gave the British the impression that
they were trapped, giving the Romans the advantage of deceiving their opponents before an ambush
attack. As Boudicca s army of, according to Dio, 230,000 men encountered

African American Baseball Influence
How have African Americans helped shape the Major League Baseball organization? There
have been many players in the Negro Leagues, that could have been assets to the Major Leagues.
Until 1947 there had been segregation, known as the Color Barrier . Many do not understand
how much impact this had on the players, the rule was actually unwritten but was always used. A
large percent of the players wanted to feel equal, some of the men in the Negro Leagues who

Many of the fans and players had begun to accept and make friends with African Americans. Some
of the team owners discovered that they could profit from having the African Americans on their
team. The money gap that was lost from the Negro leagues was regained from the increased
number of fans, because the African American s and Americans both attracted large numbers of
fans. In 1959 the two leagues were fully integrated, and there was less racism in the major league.
By the time 1979 came around twenty six percent of the major league rosters were African
American (MLB). The teams became more competitive with the shared new talent of the African
Americans. Many of the coaches sat the African American players at first; later they decided to sit
the players who were not contributing to the team. The coaches realized to be the best team they
could be, they would have to play the players with the most talent, no matter the ethnicity. When

Book retailing is an industry where companies sell books and other reading media, including,
audio books, e books and e readers. Some bookstores sell other products including DVDs, stationery

Over the five year period until 2015 6, there was an annual decline in revenue of 10.6%
(ibisworld, 2016). Numerous challenges have beset the industry, such as, lower book prices,
strong competition from online retailers and a change in popularity from printed books to e
books (ibisworld, 2016). Other issues that have a significant effect on bookstores are parallel
import restrictions (IBISWorld, 2016), and online retailers being advantaged by low freight

Encouraging Signs
However, there are encouraging signs according to Williams, (2015) who points to the icon of
bookstores Dymocks, which claims to have had its best ever sales year. Sydney book retailer
Jon Page noted an upward surge in sales in the final quarter leading up to Christmas, a period
that accounts for around 70% of annual sales (Han, 2015). According to the Nielsen book scan
data, there were 55.4 million in sales of printed books in Australia last year, a 2.2% increase over
the previous year, the first sales increase since 2009. (Han, 2015).
Some of the downturns in printed book sales may be as a result of economic conditions which

Immigrants In Philadelphia In The Seventeenth Century
Irish immigrants began arriving in Philadelphia in the seventeenth century in an effort to escape
poverty, starvation, and English oppression. By the eighteenth century, Philadelphia was a bustling
city growing rapidly in industry and the immigrants had dreams of a better life, free of the
repression they had experienced in Ireland. Pennsylvania seemed an ideal place for the emigrants
since, as McDaniel (2014) notes William Penn envisioned the province to be socially, economically
and religiously diverse where differences of opinion and backgrounds would naturally create a
stable and tolerant society. After surviving the often dangerous voyage from Ireland, the Irish were

Soon the number of emigrants increased so rapidly that jobs and housing became scarce and
poverty ensued. In addition to economic problems, religious differences increased tension. It
seemed as if the troubles in Ireland had traveled across the ocean. Irish Catholics arriving in
America were faced with the most prejudices. They were seen as unskilled, illiterate, immoral
troublemakers who were stealing jobs from other workers. Many were given low paying jobs or
unable to gain employment at all due to discrimination. Poverty led to gang formation, violence
and crime. Alcoholism was also a problem as many emigrants became saloon owners, since bars
and whiskey were a big part of their Irish heritage. As the number of immigrants grew, so did the
increase in crime and alcoholism which perpetuated the Philadelphians feelings of mistrust of the
Irish. Philadelphia newspapers that neglected to include information that was important and of
interest to the Irish, were diligent in reporting negative stories or in degrading Irish immigrants.
There were also great misgivings concerning the Irish Catholics. Massa (2016) notes that the

Italian Neorealism Genre
During World War II many films in Italy the Italian community created a new type of genre for
that specific decade called Italian Neorealism. The Neorealism genre was a style of film
characterized by stories done by the poor and working class. These movies were typically filmed
on location meaning not in a studio but rather at a real place and used nonprofessional actors. The
films themselves contended with the difficulty of life post World War II. The early films were
about social issues and war. Director Roberto Rossellinis created a movie during the Neorealist time
called RomeOpen City which was released in 1945. The movie shows a deeply moving portrait of
Rome during the last couple years of the war, with Germany occupying the city and Allied forces
slowly closing in. The filmwas made on whatever film stock Rossellini could gather up in the post
war Italian economy. It was shot in the streets of Rome with a kind of documentary realism that
would show an even greater impact to this story.
Rome Open City for me personally was a very amusing movie to watch because I ve never
watched a foreign movie before and it was something different to see especially back in 1945
when the war was going on. For me it s incredible how this movie did so well during a time of
tragedy and yet movies here not in the US can t even get a decent rating. I did on the other hand
have a bit of a hard time following the movie because the lyrics that were given to the movie in
english weren t that amazing I feel like if I spoke Italian or if it was remastered into a english
film then i d love it even more. The film was divided into two parts. The first half focused on the
daily lives of the resistance fighters living in Rome. Francesco works for a communist
newspaper, he also helps a group of militant anti Nazi fighters, led by his friend Giorgio.
Francesco s fiancГ©e, the Pina is involved in the struggle as well she helps create riots against the
shops that control food rations and keep the people of the city from getting enough to eat. One of
the major things I loved about this film was how Rossellini balances the film s darker moments
with surprising humorous touches, especially when using the priest Don Pietro. The Part that

John Milton Satan Quotes
Paradise Lost is a re telling of the well known story of Adam and Eve. John Milton begins
Paradise Lost by formally stating his poem s subject: humankind s first act of disobedience
toward God and the fall of humanity which followed after. The act is Adam and Eve s
consumption of the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, which is told in Genesis, the first
book of the Bible. However, their actions were in response to a serpents trickery. According to
many Christian traditions, this serpent is Satan, the angel who rebelled against God and fell from
heaven to hell where he became pitted against God and all humanity. However, in Paradise Lost,
Milton complicates this set role of Satan. Milton s Satan is an extraordinary and majestic figure
that we find difficult to avoid feeling sympathy towards, and impressed by his pride and
leadership skills. (unafraid of being damned eternally, prideful, a strong leader, comparable to the
size of a Titan, and ingeniously develops his own heaven out of hell.) We can argue that... Show

we not feel a bit sorry for him (put sad quote of him chained to the lake). All Satan wanted to
achieve was to overthrow God, which is impossible anyways because God has universal power.
But he doesn t give up when he fails/falls. (find quote about Satan destroying humanity) this is a
another admirable trait that Satan has because he wont give up once he starts something, he goes
and finishes it. A lot of readers can identify with him because it is a characteristic we see in

Genetic Makeup As Depicted In The Film Gattaca
In the world of Gattaca, the genetic makeup is very crucial for a person to be accepted in society.
It is set in the 21st century, where technology has improved to the point where parents could alter
and choose the DNA s for their children. Through the usage of different characters, symbols and

Many characters in Gattaca are used to portray the importance of genetic makeup. Throughout the

that their DNA has not been mutated, and to check if they are as healthy and as worthy as when

Kierkegaard And Communism
On first and second glance, it may appear impossible to draw any concrete connection between the
philosophy of SГёren Kierkegaard, a seventeenth century Danish Philosopher who worked heavily
on existential themes, faith, and Christianity, and the Soviet Union. On one hand, Kierkegaard
himself lived his life almost solely in Denmark, rarely leaving his own hometown, so his
experience of the World outside of Denmark was extremely limited and focused on his world,
especially the world of the Danish National Church. On the other hand, the Soviet Union embraced
Communism, and with it its atheistic stances on social and political implications of religion and
religious institutions, the Soviet ideology would appear to stand in opposition to the... Show more

In order to attempt this sort of analysis, there are a number of factors that must be addressed first,
with the most crucial being the understanding of Kierkegaard, his relevant works, and his
Philosophy. SГёren Aabye Kierkegaard was born in 1813 in Copenhagen to Ane SГёrensdatter
Lund Kierkegaard and Michael Pedersen Kierkegaard, the latter a pastor of the Danish National
Church. According to Daniel Conway, a professor of Philosophy and the Humanities at Texas A
M, although influential today for his diverse contributions to the fields of philosophy, theology,
rhetoric, literary theory, and depth philosophy, Kierkegaard was widely known in his own day as
a provocative social critic (Conway 2015, 1). He was highly critical of the church in his
hometown, and the Danish National Church in general, in addition to Christianity and what it
meant for one to have faith in the almighty. Thus, much of Kierkegaard s work deals with faith and
Christianity to some extent, as seen with Fear and Trembling, the work that will be most heavily
sourced within this thesis. Kierkegaard s Fear and Trembling was written and published in 1843

Tomboy Research Paper
It s abundantly clear that there are distinct physical differences among the sexes, however women
and men have been taught and thrown into a structural system that has brainwashed us into
believing that based on what sexual organ you so happened to be born with you must follow the
guidelines throughout life to fulfill that particular gender. Growing up as a femalein society you are
taught that barbies, baby dolls, Polly pockets, playing dress up, and liking the color pink is
essential to being a proper girl and that taking a fancy to hot wheels, action figures, and Pokemon
cards is considered wrong and you automatically get labeled a tomboy. Although, the word tomboy
is not considered an insult or a rude name it s just an unnecessary word... Show more content on

Everywhere we go, everything we buy, everything we see is gender based, from shaving cream,
children s toys at fast food restaurants, clothes, shampoos, and much much more. Unfortunately,
and realistically these stereotypes and roles will never disappear completely, due to the fact that
there will always be the presence of people who choose to reject the modern day upbringing,
close minded people are the only thing holding our generation back from blossoming into a
world of equality. With that said, take this as an eye opener to educate yourself on issues
involving PEOPLE, take interests in social problems involving PEOPLE, and take a genuine
concern towards the well beings of our PEOPLE. Once we open our hearts and minds we will
soon gravitate towards a less structured and uncomfortable environment. Nothing is set in stone, if
we break through these set rules, together we can demolish stereotypes and compose a superior,
suitable, and a more desirable society to live

Essay about The Emergence of Europe
The Emergence of Europe In the Early Middle Ages:
The Germanic Tribes, the Roman Legacy, and the Christian Church
Marina Lundstrom
History 114 Western Civilization The World I
Due: November 8, 2014
After the fall of the Roman Empire around the fifth century, it took hundreds of years for the
western part of Europe to establish a new society. 1 The emergence of this new European
civilization during a period known as the Early Middle Ages, included three major components: the
Germanic tribes, the bequest of the Romans, and the legislation of the Christian Church. Although
these three chief elements contributed to the new medieval empire in the west, the Germanic tribes
devastated the seized Roman territory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Frankish king, Clovis I (c. 481 511) proceeded this succession in Western Europe by his
conversion to Christianity and support from the Christian church.11 At first Clovis was urged by
his wife to convert to her Christian faith but was further convinced to receive baptism, along with
his army, in fear of defeat by the opposing German armies. Grasping on to this new Christian faith,
Clovis conquered several of his enemies including the Visigoths and the Alemanni resulting in the
expansion of his Frankish rule from eastern Germany to the Pyrenees.12 By the end of his reign,
Clovis was able to unify the Frankish tribes under one kingdom and develop a strong alliance with
the Christian church.
The leadership that was so badly needed in western Europe could only come from the capable
leaders of the Christian church at the beginning of the sixth century. The church was the only
surviving institution after the Roman Empire was overthrown but it still suffered through the
barbaric invasions and disorder from the Germanic tribes. Able to withstand the confining
barbarianism were only two ecclesiastical institutes: the monks and the papacy.13 In the joint
efforts of the papacy and the Germanic kingship, they were prepared to effectively direct the
western European population through

Gender And Gender Inequality
Long time ago, parents tended to invest on their sons rather than their daughters. In the past, most
of boys went to school, and girls stayed home. At that moment, the women were not treated equally
because they did not go outside to work. The women only stayed home to take care of children and
do housework, so they depended on their husband financially. Nowadays people have still treated
one another differently based on group identity, especially when it comes to genderappearances.
Gender inequality has been happening around the world, it still occurs at some careers,
workplaces, and at home. Culture has a great impact on gender inequality in some developing
countries. For instance, Vietnamese people like to have more sons rather than daughters because
they believe in raising a daughter is like watering your neighbors garden, and raising a daughter as
ploughing someone else s field (Jayachandran, 2014, p. 11). In Vietnam, parents usually invest
more on their sons rather than daughters because the sons play a significant role in religious rituals.
Jayachandran (2014) reported that sons will carry on the familyname or widows wanting to retain
family land also make the first son especially valuable (p.14). Therefore, the sons are valued in my
family. I still remember when I was a child, I saw my mother tried to be pregnant several times to
have baby boys. However, she had only one boys, and four girls accidently. When I was a little, I
noticed the gender was

Financial Analysis
Cango Financial CanGo Financial Analysis Report The success of a business depends on its
ability to remain profitable over the long term, while being able to pay all its financial

business is able to maximize on available opportunities and very efficiently and effectively use
the resources it has to create maximum value for all involved stakeholders. One way the
performance of a company can be measured on critical areas such as profitability, its ability to stay
solvent, the amount of debt exposure and the effectiveness in resource utilization, is performing

Working capital is the money that a company has after paying off its current liabilities and with
which it can finance its operating and working capital requirements. The higher a number the
better a company is able to pay off its debt and have cash for meeting its financial obligations.
The current ratio is used to gauge a company s ability to pay back its short term liabilities (debt
and payables) with its short term assets (cash, inventory, receivables). The higher the current
ratio, the more capable the company is of paying its obligations. A ratio under 1 suggests that the
company would be unable to pay off its obligations if they came due at that point. The current
ratio denotes the efficiency of a company s operating cycle or its ability to turn its products into
cash, which is a key requirement for business success. Quick ratio is an indicator of a company s
short term liquidity. The quick ratio measures a company s ability to meet its short term obligations
with its most liquid assets, essentially cash and cash equivalents. The higher the quick ratio, the
better the financial position of the company in terms of its ability to meet its liabilities. Debt ratio
The Debt/Equity ratio is a measure of a company s financial leverage and indicates what proportion
of equity and debt the company is using to finance its assets. A high number indicated that the
company is

And the Earth Did Not Devour Them by Tomas Rivera
...And the Earth Did Not Devour Him is not a story of one character, but rather of a people.
Rivera, much like in the Actos of El Teatro Campesino, basically uses a stock character. Although
each story seemingly gives more detail and specificity to the character, it can also be interpreted
as doing the exact opposite. In telling of the life of one, Rivera in turn reveals the lives of many.
Even though specific details of each of their lives were obviously different, the core issues still
remained; Chicanos needed changeand they needed it immediately. One of the most noticeable
techniques Rivera uses within his novelis the constant changing of the point of view. The novel is
centered on an unnamed male protagonist, however, throughout the story the point of view ranges
from that of a mother praying for her son unwillingly fighting in Vietnam to that of an omniscient
narrator, capable of entering anyone s heads. This often times seemed to be very random and
even abrupt. However, it was through the sporadic sprinklings of changes in point of views that
Rivera was able to not only showcase cultural struggles of the time, but also call for social
change as well as reveal the confusion and uncertainty of the people themselves. First and
foremost, this novel is about Chicano people and the struggles they endured. While each small
passage can be viewed as the progression of the unknown male protagonist, it also gives a
multitude of other views as well. Middle aged male

Why Did Shakespeare Chose To Modernize Hamlet
Looking at the chose that were given the play that I would chose to modernize would have to be
William Shakespeare s Hamlet. The main focus or image would be on the fact that he lost his
father in the most ruthless way and his mother was married away. If it was up to me I would
place this story in the heart of Detroit. With all this kind of drama that happens in Detroit,
Michigan in the heart of the Motor City this would be right in the spot. The set would be simple
it would be in the gallows of Detroit between 6 mile and 7 mile near Woodward Avenue. The new
and modernized play would be throughout the city of detroit. The plot would be based around a
family in the Motor City that had a mother and a father that split and went their separate

New Transit System for Sunshine Coast As a consequence of the rapidly increasing population of the Sunshine Coast, and therefore rising transport demand, various suggestions have been made in regards to the establishment of a new transit system. Currently, the most favoured option in regards to alternative transport on the Sunshine Coast is that of a light rail line which would link all major destinations and attractions within the region as well as connect with bus and train services in hinterland communities (Deutscher, 2013). In addition, present studies conducted by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council (2013) detail that the light rail would extend from Caloundra to Maroochydore, via the University of the Sunshine Coast. However, the development of the light rail line along this route would involve crossing Currimundi Creek, a critical environmental and tourism feature of the Sunshine Coast. A Sexual Reproduction ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION Asexual reproduction is a mode of reproduction by which offspring arise from a single parent, and inherit the genes of that parent only; it is reproduction which does not involve meiosis, ploidy reduction, or fertilization. The offspring will be exact genetic copies of the parent. A more stringent definition is agamogenesis which is reproduction without the fusion of gametes. Asexual reproduction is the primary form of reproduction for single celled organisms such as the archaea, bacteria, and protists. Many plants and fungi reproduce asexually as well. SPORE FORMATION Many multicellular organisms form spores during their biological life cycle in a process called sporogenesis. Exceptions are animals and some protists, who undergo gametic meiosisimmediately followed by fertilization. Plants and many algae on the other hand undergo sporic meiosis where meiosis leads to the formation of haploid spores rather than gametes. FRAGMENTATION Fragmentation is a form of asexual reproduction where a new organism grows from a fragment of the parent. Each fragment develops into a mature, fully grown individual. Fragmentation is seen in many organisms such as animals (some annelid worms, turbellarians and sea stars), fungi, and plants. Some plants have specialized structures for reproduction via fragmentation, such asgemmae in liverworts. AGAMOGENESIS Agamogenesis is any form of reproduction that does not involve a male gamete. Examples are parthenogenesis and apomixis. Parthenogenesis is a form of agamogenesis in which an unfertilized egg develops into a new individual. Parthenogenesis occurs naturally in many plants, invertebrates (e.g. water fleas, rotifers, aphids, stick insects, some ants, bees and parasitic wasps), and vertebrates (e.g. some reptiles, amphibians, fish, very rarely birds). • 7. House On Mango Street Book Assignment Book Assignment For this book assignment I decided to read the book The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. Cisneros uses a series of vignettes to tell the story of Esperanza Cordero and a year of her life on Mango Street. Esperanza is a 12 year old Mexican American girl, or Chicana, living in a congested Latino neighborhood located in the more poorer area of Chicago. The story begins with Esperanza s family moving to a new house on Mango street which she describes as an upgrade from their previous house but it is still not the home her heart desires. Esperanza has big dreams of eventually leaving Mango Street and owning her own real house with a big yard and multiple washrooms, just like the ones she sees on television. Esperanza s journey into maturity and development is described through these interestingly written vignettes. She begins writing poetry as a way of expressing the events happening in her life such as developing friends, puberty and sprouting hips, and even dealing with sexual assault. The first half of the book begins with Esperanza wanting to continue to play in her little child bubble but is pushed into the world of adulthood when dealing with the deaths of her grandfather and Aunt Lupe and when she is abruptly kissed by an older man while at her first job. Esperanza also writes about her neighbors and happenings of the neighborhood to paint a picture of the different paths in life that are available to her. She switches her interest to the older women of the neighborhood who each... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. ##arison Of Realism In The Notorious Jumping Frog Of... In the mid nineteenth century, a literary movement began in America as a form of rejection of romanticism. This movement was called Realism. In contrast to romanticism, which promoted idealism, positivism, and subjectivity, Realism was a literary technique which attempted to portray the society as it was presented in the ordinary life. One of the pioneer of Realism was Henry James. In his essay Art of Fictionhe described realism not as an attempt to picture someone s life experiences but rather as a way to evoke a sense of reality in the mind (554) on the reader. Although Mark Twains short story The Notorious Jumping Frogof Calaveras County was written fifteen years before this approach of realism, it is an example of realism as defined by Henry James, for it succeeds to create an illusion of reality by using three capital tools: the plausibility of the event, the emphasis on the characters, and the stress on the details of the environment. According to Henry James, one of the characteristics of realism is the plausibility of the event. For him, a good novel uses imagination to create a story that can be plausible in real life. He argues that experience is never limited, and it is never complete; it is an immense sensibility, a kind of huge spider web of the finest silken threads suspended in the chamber of consciousness, and catching every air borne particle in its tissue (James 554), and [experience] is the very atmosphere of the mind (James 554). • 9. Theme Of Symbolism In Great Expectations Charles Dickens s Great Expectations contains a lot of symbolism throughout the book, there are symbols of isolation, manipulation, and people wanting to be something they are not. The names of the characters in the story Great Expectations symbolize who they are and how they act. These are all seen in the book through the characters of Estella, Abel Magwitch, Miss Havisham, Pip, and Biddy. Estella, French for star, implies radiance and exquisiteness like a star, likewise, Dickens s character, Estella, in Great Expectationsis inaccessible and cold like a star, too. Also, like a star, men love to gaze upon her, but cannot touch her because she has been trained by her adoptive mother, Miss Havisham, to have no feeling and no empathy for others. She has been taught to be cold and calculating and to break the heart of any man who makes the mistake of falling in love with her. Additionally, Estella symbolizes isolation and manipulation; she has been locked away for years in the impenetrable prison of Miss Havisham s making, far away from the carefree and caring life a young girl deserves. She teases and manipulates boys and later, men into loving her only become ice cold and break their hearts. Estella tells Pip, that I have no softness there, no sympathy sentiment nonsense. Warfare In The Middle Ages In the Middle Ages, which sprouted from the sacking of Rome by Germanic tribes, society became more isolated and survivalism based, with merely living taking precedent over education and social activity. This was truly a dark age, with Christianity providing the only hope during this feudalistic and tumultuous time period. Throughout this time period, the clergy gained more and more power, eventually sparking the Crusades. While they failed, they did open trade routes, bringing a better economy to the Europeans. Also, governments eventually evolved, bringing in the Parliament, a legislative group of knights, bishops, and lords. Finally, near the end of the Middle Ages, the black death took about one third of the population of Europe, bringing in economic and social reforms. Then, the Hundred Years War took place, marking the end of the Age of Faith. A large number of fossil bones and teeth have been found at various places throughout Africa, Europe, and Asia. Tools of stone, bone, and wood, as well as fire hearths, campsites, and burials, also have been discovered and excavated. As a result of these discoveries, a picture of human evolution during the past 4 to 5 million years has emerged. As the teeth became smaller and the brain expanded, the face became smaller and its position changed; thus, the relatively small face of modern humans is located below, rather than in front of, the large, expanded braincase. Human Origins The fossil evidence for immediate ancestors of modern humans is divided into the genera Australopithecus and Homo, and begins about 5 million years ago. The nature of the hominine evolutionary tree before that is uncertain. Between 7 and 20 million years ago, primitive apelike animals were widely distributed on the African and, later, on the Eurasian continents. Although many fossil bones and teeth have been found, the way of life of these creatures, and their evolutionary relationships to the living apes and humans, remain matters of active debate among scientists. One of these fossil apes, known as Sivapithecus, appears to share many distinguishing features with the living Asian great ape, the orangutan, whose direct ancestor it may well be. The Society for Neuroscience stated, Dendrites extend from the neuron cell body and receive messages from other neurons. Synapses are the contact points where one neuron communicates with another. • 29. The Faerie Queene By Edmund Spenser Analysis This week s lecture is on The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser. This lecture focuses on Edmund Spenser s life, the sources and influences that created Book I of The Faerie Queene , themes, devices, and meaning, purpose of Book I, and The Legend of the Knight of the Red Cross . Edmund Spenserwas born in 1552 to a modest family of modest means with a similar background such as Marlowe and Shakespeare. Spenser was a well educated man much like Marlowe. Spenser spent his first years of education at the Merchant Taylors School before attending university. Edmund Spenser would go on to receive a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Arts from Cambridge University. After university, Spenser would begin a career as a minor civil servant where he was a personal secretary to men of power and influence. His work would lead him to a few minor colonial government posts in Ireland. Afterwards, Edmund Spenser was bestowed a castle and 3,000 acres of land in Munster, Ireland. However, the castle was burned down into a rebel uprising. This was due to Spenser being disrespectful of the Irish and their religion. Edmund Spenser would then go on to be a poet. He was creative and adventurous when it came to his work. His greatest works are The Shepheardes Calendar and The Faerie Queene. Spenser became a great influence to several poets such as Milton and other romantics. In the end, Edmund Spenser became one of the greatest English poets of his time. The Faerie Queene is similar to works of Beowulf because of its Anglo Saxon epics. Also, Book I has a hint of classical and renaissance adventures. The Faerie Queene is a perfect combination of themes and motifs that was already introduced in other assignments. This makes Spenser s The Faerie Queene an epic poem. An epic poem is described as a long narrative in elevated style while presenting characters of high positions in adventures thus forming an organic whole through their relation to a central heroic figure and their development of events that play an important part to the history of a nation or race. The common characteristics of the main character is that the hero is played by a person of importance such who would have a historical or legendary significance. The ... Italian Neorealism Genre During World War II many films in Italy the Italian community created a new type of genre for that specific decade called Italian Neorealism. The Neorealism genre was a style of film characterized by stories done by the poor and working class. These movies were typically filmed on location meaning not in a studio but rather at a real place and used nonprofessional actors. The films themselves contended with the difficulty of life post World War II. The early films were about social issues and war. Director Roberto Rossellinis created a movie during the Neorealist time called RomeOpen City which was released in 1945. The movie shows a deeply moving portrait of Rome during the last couple years of the war, with Germany occupying the city and Allied forces slowly closing in. The filmwas made on whatever film stock Rossellini could gather up in the post war Italian economy. It was shot in the streets of Rome with a kind of documentary realism that would show an even greater impact to this story. Rome Open City for me personally was a very amusing movie to watch because I ve never watched a foreign movie before and it was something different to see especially back in 1945 when the war was going on. John Milton begins Paradise Lost by formally stating his poem s subject: humankind s first act of disobedience toward God and the fall of humanity which followed after. The act is Adam and Eve s consumption of the forbidden fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, which is told in Genesis, the first book of the Bible. However, their actions were in response to a serpents trickery. According to many Christian traditions, this serpent is Satan, the angel who rebelled against God and fell from heaven to hell where he became pitted against God and all humanity. Milton s Satan is an extraordinary and majestic figure that we find difficult to avoid feeling sympathy towards, and impressed by his pride and leadership skills. The Frankish king, Clovis I (c. 481 511) proceeded this succession in Western Europe by his conversion to Christianity and support from the Christian church.11 At first Clovis was urged by his wife to convert to her Christian faith but was further convinced to receive baptism, along with his army, in fear of defeat by the opposing German armies. Grasping on to this new Christian faith, Clovis conquered several of his enemies including the Visigoths and the Alemanni resulting in the expansion of his Frankish rule from eastern Germany to the Pyrenees.12 By the end of his reign, Clovis was able to unify the Frankish tribes under one kingdom and develop a strong alliance with the Christian church. The leadership that was so badly needed in western Europe could only come from the capable leaders of the Christian church at the beginning of the sixth century. The church was the only surviving institution after the Roman Empire was overthrown but it still suffered through the barbaric invasions and disorder from the Germanic tribes. Able to withstand the confining barbarianism were only two ecclesiastical institutes: the monks and the papacy.13 In the joint efforts of the papacy and the Germanic kingship, they were prepared to effectively direct the western European population through ... • 41. Gender And Gender Inequality Long time ago, parents tended to invest on their sons rather than their daughters. In the past, most of boys went to school, and girls stayed home. At that moment, the women were not treated equally because they did not go outside to work. The women only stayed home to take care of children and do housework, so they depended on their husband financially. Nowadays people have still treated one another differently based on group identity, especially when it comes to genderappearances. Gender inequality has been happening around the world, it still occurs at some careers, workplaces, and at home. Culture has a great impact on gender inequality in some developing countries. For instance, Vietnamese people like to have more sons rather than daughters because they believe in raising a daughter is like watering your neighbors garden, and raising a daughter as ploughing someone else s field (Jayachandran, 2014, p. 11). In Vietnam, parents usually invest more on their sons rather than daughters because the sons play a significant role in religious rituals. Jayachandran (2014) reported that sons will carry on the familyname or widows wanting to retain family land also make the first son especially valuable (p.14). Therefore, the sons are valued in my family. I still remember when I was a child, I saw my mother tried to be pregnant several times to have baby boys. However, she had only one boys, and four girls accidently. When I was a little, I noticed the gender was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The current ratio is used to gauge a company s ability to pay back its short term liabilities (debt and payables) with its short term assets (cash, inventory, receivables). • 43. And the Earth Did Not Devour Them by Tomas Rivera ...And the Earth Did Not Devour Him is not a story of one character, but rather of a people. Rivera, much like in the Actos of El Teatro Campesino, basically uses a stock character. Although each story seemingly gives more detail and specificity to the character, it can also be interpreted as doing the exact opposite. In telling of the life of one, Rivera in turn reveals the lives of many. Even though specific details of each of their lives were obviously different, the core issues still remained; Chicanos needed changeand they needed it immediately. One of the most noticeable techniques Rivera uses within his novelis the constant changing of the point of view. The novel is centered on an unnamed male protagonist, however, throughout the story the point of view ranges from that of a mother praying for her son unwillingly fighting in Vietnam to that of an omniscient narrator, capable of entering anyone s heads. This often times seemed to be very random and even abrupt. However, it was through the sporadic sprinklings of changes in point of views that Rivera was able to not only showcase cultural struggles of the time, but also call for social change as well as reveal the confusion and uncertainty of the people themselves. First and foremost, this novel is about Chicano people and the struggles they endured. While each small passage can be viewed as the progression of the unknown male protagonist, it also gives a multitude of other views as well. Middle aged male ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Why Did Shakespeare Chose To Modernize Hamlet Looking at the chose that were given the play that I would chose to modernize would have to be William Shakespeare s Hamlet. The main focus or image would be on the fact that he lost his father in the most ruthless way and his mother was married away. If it was up to me I would place this story in the heart of Detroit. With all this kind of drama that happens in Detroit, Michigan in the heart of the Motor City this would be right in the spot. The set would be simple it would be in the gallows of Detroit between 6 mile and 7 mile near Woodward Avenue. The new and modernized play would be throughout the city of detroit. The plot would be based around a family in the Motor City that had a mother and a father that split and went their separate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
