Everyday Use By Alice Walker
Heritage is defined as something that comes or belongs to one by reason of birth. In Everyday Use , by
Alice Walker, the theme of the story can be considered as the meaning of heritage or even the power
of education. Alice Walker uses many symbols and motifs such as the following: quilts, education,
knowledge, Asalamalakim, and the renaming of Dee. In the story, African heritage and knowledge
takes a major role. The African heritage plays a major role in the story, Everyday Use . Alice Walker
emphasizes the meaning of heritage by having Dee come visit her family and contradicting her
heritage. As Dee go off to college, she meets new people and finds her a boyfriend, Asalamalakim.
Alice Walker adds attention onto Dee s new name, Wangero, because Dee changes her name, not
understanding the true root of her original name. No, mama, she says. Not Dee, Wangero Leewanika
Kemanjo! What happened to Dee ? I wanted to know. She s dead... (160). However, Dee truly believes
that her heritage lies way back to Africa. The African clothes and name gives an understanding that
Dee thinks that she is from Africa and that is where her heritage originally lies. In addition, Mama and
Dee have different point of views on what heritage truly is. Mama tells Wangero (Dee) that her name
comes from a line of ancestors, yet Wangero believes that her new name has more roots in it. You
know as well as me you were named after your aunt Dicie, I said. Dicie is my sister. She named Dee.

Analysis Of Stephen Crane s The Open Boat
Naturalism is a literary genre that focuses on how the role of social conditions, family background,
and the environment shape the character. Most stories are based on the idea that the environment
determines and governs human character (2015). Naturalists depict their characters as having little or
no control over their lives, as they are usually removed of their free will by uncontrollable external
forces (such as nature) or if they are in a lower class of society. Some characteristics of naturalist
writing include determinism, pessimism, indifference to the environment, and survival. Stephen Crane
s The Open Boat is an exemplar of naturalist writing, as it shows most, if not all, of these
characteristics.
1. Determinism According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although steady, it was deep with mourning... (Crane p. 585). Though usually optimistic and upbeat,
the captain shares a couple of pessimistic thoughts while they were stranded. In section 4, the captain
says, if we don t get ashore...if we don t get ashore, I suppose you fellows know where to send news
of my finish? (Crane p. 590). The captain, the supposed leader, says these discouraging words. He also
repeats, If we don t get ashore which it also shows a pessimistic attitude. Even though pessimism is an
important part of naturalism, an indifference of nature is one of the key characteristics in naturalistic
literature, and it is shown in The Open Boat.
3. Indifference to Nature The four men in The Open Boat have no control over their situation as nature
controls their story. This is shown in the first lines of the story: None of them knew the color of the
sky. Their eyes glanced level, and were fastened upon the waves that swept them. (Crane p. 584). The
first few sentences just say that the four men can t see the sky since the waves splash into them. Crane
sets the scene of this bleak tale by giving the reader a setting that is the complete opposite of a serene,
nice, day out on the water. It shows that the crew s lives are only going to go downhill from there.
Later in section 1, Crane writes that A singular disadvantage of the sea lies in the fact that after

Ethics and Morality in Vegetarianism
The assumption that animals are without rights, and the illusion that their treatment has no moral
significance is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal
compassion is the only guarantee of morality. (Schopenhauer). I always wondered why some people
are not so drawn to the consumption of meat and fed up with only one thought about it. Why so many
people loathe of blood, and why so few people can easily kill and be slaughter animal, until they just
get used to it? This reaction should say something about the most important moments in the code,
which was programmed in the human psyche. Realization the necessity of refraining from meat is
especially difficult because people consume it for a long time, ... Show more content on

An ancient Greek philosopher and scientist Pythagoras was convinced that whoever kills an animal
without any remorse can easily kill a man. Other philosophers were even more straightforward and
indicated that cruelty to animals leads to wars. It leads me to believe that the attitude towards animals
is not something we can merely write off as a showcase of the innate cruelty of man , but an indicator
of our society s ethical level. If more people become aware of the suffering and death of animals that
we, as a people, have caused, and acknowledge it, it would be a small, but significant sign of moral
growth. Although moral principles have gained increasing recognition due to their usefulness for the
society, i.e. for pragmatic reasons, the evolution of ethics had different roots psychological and
spiritual. It is based on the person s ability for empathy: which is the basis of moral behavior of a
person, his kindness, and decency. It can be argued that the ability for empathy separates man from the
world of animals. With the development of spirituality and feelings of compassion, people began to
feel uncomfortable by the fact that their actions were constantly associated with the infliction of
suffering to other beings, and even their death. Even in ancient times, high minds have concluded that

Encryption And The Security Of A Message

Encryption
Encryption is a way to enhance the security of a message or file by scrambling the contents so that it
can be read only by someone who has the right encryption key to unscramble it (Microsoft).
Encryption uses an algorithm to change plain text data to cipher text. It played a very important role in
wars and in military circles to protect top secret information from foreign countries.
There are two types of encryption symmetric key and asymmetric key encryption. Symmetric is faster
than asymmetric at decrypting the data. Sometimes asymmetric and symmetric encryption are used
together. The symmetric key is encrypted using asymmetric encryption.
SYMMETRIC KEY ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
DES was one of the first symmetric encryption methods used by NSA dating back to the 1970s. It
used a 56 bit key and 8 bit parity. DES can easily be broken, which is why AES replaced it in 2001.
AES is stronger and faster than DES. It can use a variety of key lengths (128 , 192 , or 256 bit). Other
ciphers used with symmetric key encryption are Ron s Cipher v2 (RC2), Ron s Cipher v5 (RC5),
International Data Encryption Algorithm (IDEA), Triple DES (3DES), Blowfish, Twofish, and
SkipJack.
ASYMMETRIC ENCRYPTION Asymmetric encryption (also known as public key encryption) uses
two different keys that are mathematically similar but distinctly different. One key for encrypting
(public key) and the other for decrypting (private key). The two keys together are called a key pair.
The strength of the secrecy and integrity lies in the private key. Asymmetric encryption is usually used
for smaller data, like the encryption of a symmetric key. Asymmetric uses multiple different protocols,
including, SSL/TLS, IPSec, VPNs, S/MIME, and SSH tunnels. The most popular cipher used in
asymmetric encryption is RSA (Rivest, Shamir, Adleman) created in 1977 by Ron Rivest, Adi Shamir
and Leonard Adleman. It is based on factoring large numbers in their prime value (Wikipedia). RSA is
the most secure. It ranges from 512 bits to 8,000 bits, which is about 2,401 digits. Others

A process for retrieving natural gas from 7,000 feet below the earth s surface has caused
environmental concerns. Hydrofracking has been around since the 40 s but wasn t until the 90 s where
technology allowed for a vertical drill to drill horizontally into shall deep below the surface creating
several bores and accessing hundreds of acres of shale. Hydrofarcking comes with its controversy,
some argue that it is contaminating water sources and creating environmental concerns, while others

Atmospheric Cues in Retail Stores
Atmospheric Cues in Retail Stores: Their Effect on the Consumer s Hedonic Retail Experience
Introduction Retailers are finding it more and more difficult to differentiate themselves from their
competition, specifically based on the four Ps of marketing; product, place, price and promotion. They
have been forced to inquire about diverse and distinctive atmospheric cues, in order to attract and
maintain customers and their loyalty. According to (Morrison, 2001), elements such as colour,
lighting, layout, and display features have been considered as having an immediate effect on the
buying decision making process, and focus has moved from in store product displays toward elements
that excite the senses of shoppers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Relating to this, a study showed that customers spent considerably less time in stores with loud music
compared to soft. Relating to restaurants, diners stayed longer and consumed more alcoholic
beverages when slow tempo music was playing in the background compared to fast tempo. (Alpert,
Judy and Alpert, Mark, 1989). Of course this depends on the type of stores people are shopping at, this
may be true for superstores, but stores like Nike acquire a different type of customer and are in need of
a different type of atmosphere, which is explained in the following paragraph. Also if a restaurant
were targeted more towards a younger crowd, then a more upbeat genre of music would be
appropriate in order to influence the customers to stay longer and buy more alcoholic beverages. A
study was done through face to face interviews and in store observation with sales associates and
managers, and out of store with shoppers. This study was completed to provide greater insight about
the relation between music and retail branding (Morrison, 2001). The first was NikeTown: the music
in the store was high on energy, vibrant, proactive and uplifting, obviously creating a boost in store
environment and attracting younger urban customers. The current music is friendlier and more inviting
compared to the old tennis ball bouncing or birds chirping. This audio atmosphere differentiates Nike
from competitors and supports the brand. In fact interest from customers has led to the need

Comparing The Silk Road And Its Effect In China And The West
3. Describe the Silk Road and its use and effect in China and the West.
The Silk Road and its use and effect in China and the West can be best described as the primary trade
routes from China to Italy, specifically Rome. The name Silk Road would lead one to think it was
simply a road traveled much like traveling from North Carolina to California using Interstate 40. The
Silk Road was much more than that. The trade routes of the Silk Road had a great and long lasting
effect on China and the West.
The Silk Road began in about 114 BCE. It was the fabled trade links between East Asia and the West.

Though silk was certainly the major trade item from China, many other goods were traded, and
religions, syncretic philosophies, and various technologies, as well as diseases, also travelled along the
Silk Road. In addition to economic trade, the Silk Road served as a means of carrying out cultural
trade among the civilizations along its network. The Silk Road became its own demise as well. As
luxury goods were exported from China throughout the world, the methods of production that had
been kept secret in China came out too. Europeans began to develop manufacturing technics to
emulate Chinese production. Europeans produced and manufactured the items only available from
China and no longer need to import from China. By the sixteenth century, the Silk Road was no longer
in use. In conclusion, the Silk Road connected the many cultures of the time. The Silk Road promoted
education and invention as all the various items imported and exported traveled throughout the world.

The Importance Of Water Scarcity In Egypt
Air, food, water, they are the keys of people to survive, it is no doubt that people can t survive without
anyone of these, thus, water is one of crucial thing that people need. In recent year, water
sustainability become a popular topic because water scarcity is quite serious around the world, about
1.2 billion people or nearly 20% of the world s population face physical scarcity, another 25% of
population live in a country which lack of necessary equipment to get water from river or lake (United
Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs 2014) ,and water sustainability is to make sure
people have clean water to use in future. Egypt face a water problem, bad location and inefficient
water use, but government have some solutions like use water more efficient and reduce waste. Israel
used to be a water scarcity country, but now, this problem has been solved by new technology.
Egypt is one of most water stressed country in the world. Two reasons which directly leads to water
scarcity in Egypt. One of main reason is location, Egypt is located in Africa, and surrounded by Israel,
Libya, Sudan and Red Sea, in addition, most areas of Egypt are deserts, these deserts cause hot and
dry climate (Wolvetang 2015). Inefficient irrigation also leads to water scarcity in Egypt. Because
almost 80 mm of rainfall per year, and only 6% of land is suitable for agriculture in Egypt, which
leads to wasteful irrigation techniques such as flood irrigation, this system losing 3 billion cubic

Although Foucault believes that people are not the authors of society, discourses are governed
independently of anyone s purpose (Learning Companion 2), the institutions he mentions help to keep
order in society, although he is concerned about who can claim the authority of who has the power to
rule how others should behave (Foucault cited by Silva, 2009, p319). When looking at Buchanans
report I have found his findings to be similar to Foucaults in the way that they believe that rules have
to be in place to have social order in society; Buchanan was commissioned to do his report by the UK
government in 1961 which was Traffic in Towns aimed at finding solutions for urban space to
accommodate pedestrians and cars. He found that social order was linked to the segregation of
humans and motor vehicles and the need to create an array of measures in urban design for the
regulation of the conduct of drivers and pedestrians, this vision is in contrast to Mondermans thesis of
a shared approach. Buchanans model assumes individuals should conform to rules and a state that
solves problems and looks after individual behaviour by having rules in place to help control
situations (Buchanan cited by Silva, 2009, p341). When comparing the differences and similarities of

My Best Friends
From Enemies to Best Friends
First day of 7th grade was amazing! Final period came and it was computer class. We would just sit on
the computers and learn how to type fast. Once I finished I would play online games while everyone
else got into groups. I sat alone because I had recently transferred to a new school due to moving to a
new house. My first day of school finished and I had no clue how to get home, I had to remember
what my grandma told me and just trust my gut. Walking home wasn t so bad but I took the longest
way home. There was a group of girls I thought seemed nice so I followed them. They noticed me as
the new kid and asked me to come join the walk home. Coming close to home I was alone again and
there was another girl walking in front of me. I was minding my own business walking home, but she
kept looking back at me. I found it strange but I continued. When she would turn I would turn as well
and when she crossed the street I would too. It was accidental not knowing we lived close to each
other but I can tell it was making her mad and confused because she kept looking back with a mean
mug.
Finally, I was almost home and she turns a corner and right before I turn the same corner she confronts
me, why are you following me do need something? I started to laugh and roll my eyes, she didn t

A Brief Note On The History Of Pay
Written Assignment unit 2
The history of pay to click begun in 1996, the first known and documented version of a PPC was
included in a web directory called Planet Oasis. This was a desktop application featuring links to
informational and commercial web sites, and it was developed by Ark Interface II, a division of
Packard bell NEC Computers. The initial reactions from commercial companies to Ark Interface II s
pay per visit model were skeptical, however. By the end of 1997, over 400 major brands were paying
between $.005 to $.25 per click plus a placement fee.
In February 1998 Jeffrey Brewer of Goto.com, a 25 employee startup company later Overture, now

Marketplace, Value Click and ad knowledge offer PPC services, as an alternative to AdWords and
AdCenter.
Paid Search Deliverables
In paid inclusion programs, search engines and their ad feed partners guarantee that their search
engine will list pages from the advertiser s website in its index. However, paid inclusion typically does
not guarantee that the advertiser s pages will rank high. At this writing, search engines Inktomi,
AlltheWeb, and AltaVista offer paid inclusion programs.
Paid placement programs, by contrast, generally guarantee that a link to the advertiser s URL will be
delivered in the search results on a matched keyword or keywords. Location of the delivered link
generally governs the fees, so advertisers will pay more to be placed higher up the page in the search
results.
Development of pay to click site through mode of payment
There are two primary models for determining pay per click: flat rate and bid based. In both cases, the
advertiser must consider the potential value of a click from a given source. This value is based on the
type of individual the advertiser is

The Importance Of Violent Immigrants Into The United States
Is it right to prevent immigrants from other countries to come into the United States? Did you know
U.S. Immigration and customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested more than 41,300 undocumented
immigrants in the 100 days since president Trump signed a pair of executive orders tightening border
security and cracking down on sanctuary cities (Bendix). Well in many cases these undocumented
immigrants are simply looking for better living in the United States for the fact that where they come
from it s hard to find stable jobs, good living and education. The reason why president Trump signed a
pair of executive orders was to get rid of undocumented immigrants with a criminal record or who
pose a threat to national security remain a priority for the agency (Homan). For this reason, preventing
undocumented immigrants with a criminal record should not come to the U.S. to prevent violence into
the U.S. also undocumented immigrants come to the U.S looking for good stable jobs and housing;
even though it can be scary for them because they could get caught by (ICE) they still take risks for
their families to have the right education and opportunities they never had back home.
It s not right to prevent undocumented immigrants from other countries to come to the U.S. unless
they have a criminal record. In the U.S. there has been cases of undocumented immigrants who have
been arrested that have criminal records, According to Wednesday s report, nearly 75 percent of

Decay In The House Of The Seven Gables
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s gothic novel, The House of the Seven Gables, the house plays many
supernatural key roles which changes the mood of the book multiple times. The supernatural role
starts out as a curse put upon those who are descendants of the Pyncheon family, but changes the
culmination of the story. This key element to the story takes on many evil forms, but gives the story its
delightful end. Early on in the story, Matthew Maule curses the Pyncheon family before his hanging,

the coastal town of Yalta during the hot summer. The strange light on the sea, the soft warm lilac hue
of the water and the golden streak from the moon upon it sets the tone for a budding summer romance.
The fact that the two main characters first meeting takes place in a garden setting signifies a love
about to bloom. Chekhov also uses the season/weather in his story. The summer in Yalta is the start of
a hopefully steamy affair for Gurov and the lady with the white Pomeranian. They spend a lot of time
walking, talking and dining together and taking in the smell of the sea. They watch the steamers go by.

As June travels on a train to Guangzhou with her father, she notices the tears of happiness in his eyes
as he looks out the window and sees a sectioned field of yellow, green and brown under the hot
October sky. Like Chekhov, Tan uses the season of autumn to establish the change the reader will see
in Jane s character. In autumn, there is a beautiful array of color changes. For Jane, this particular
autumn, spent briefly in China, and the colors outside the train window represent a transformation.
She is returning to her roots. She is going home to discover that her mother was right all along. The
colors in the field represent the change that is about to happen in Jane. Yellow, the color of the sun,
brings hope and happiness to the new day. The field of green represents new growth. Jane is on a
journey that will help her grow as a person. The brown field is just as important as the others. It is the
last one she notices looking out the train window as she arrives closer to Guangzhou and her roots.
Setting also shapes the conflict within Jane. Is Chinese really in her blood or is she an All American
girl? I think about what my mother said, about activating my genes and becoming Chinese. And I
wonder what she meant. As people are pushing and shoving to get off the train and wait in line for
customs,

The Reasons for the Hostility Between Austria Hungary and Serbia During 1878 and 1914
Between 1878 and 1914, there was generally a lot of hostility in the Balkans this was mainly due to
the weakening Ottoman Empire, this allowed countries within it to start to fight for independence and
the greater powers surrounding it to try and take over parts of it.
After the Treaty of Berlin, 1878, Austria Hungary was given the right to occupy and administer the
Ottoman province of Bosnia Herzegovina. In 1908, after growing fears of Serbia and Russia becoming
stronger, Austria Hungary annexed Bosnia Herzegovina. This angered the Serbs because they had

The results of the first Balkan War in 1912 were another cause of hostility between the two countries.
As a result of this war Serbia had gained control of the Adriatic coastline, and had also taken over
Albania. Austria Hungary resented and feared the sudden growth of Serbia and wanted Serbia to give
up both the Adriatic coast and Albania. Russia however supported the Serbs, and he and Austria
Hungary mobilised their troops against one another. A peace treaty was drawn up and by May 1913
the Treaty of London was signed. In this treaty Serbia lost control of the Adriatic coast and Albania
was made an independent state, however they did gain control of central and northern Macedonia.
They felt this was inadequate and blamed Austria Hungary for their loss of land. This was a significant
factor in the hostility between the two sides as it made Austria Hungary fear Serbian growth and
angered Serbia as they felt that whenever they made gains of land in the Balkans the Austrians would
thwart it.
The results of the second Balkan war were also key factors in the hostility between the two countries.
In 1913 Serbia and Greece went to war with Bulgaria to win land they thought they deserved after the
first war. Bulgaria was defeated and in the Treaty of Bucharest Serbia and Greece got to keep those
parts of Macedonia they had captured. The Serbs then went on to

The Case Of Medieval Mystic Christina Of Mirabilis
Life or death: what does one choose? Most people would agree to remain alive without much
hesitation. In the case of Medieval Mystic Christina of Mirabilis, Christina also makes the hasty
decision to continue living on Earth hoping to appease God even though her decision ultimately leads
Christina to push her body to terrifying limits. In Elizabeth Alvilda Petroff s anthology titled Medieval
Women s Visionary Literature, Thomas de Cantimpré s The Life of Christina of St. Trond, Called
Christina Mirabilis depicts Christina s miraculous resurrection from the dead during her funeral
procession at church. Before returning to her body on Earth, Christina is given the ultimate choice of
her fate. De Cantimpre describes, either [Christina] [will] remain with [God] now, or return to [her]
body and suffer the punishments of an immortal soul in a mortal body which, however, will remain
unharmed. Thus by the pains [she] will suffer, [she] will deliver all those souls in purgatory whom
[she] pitied (184 185). Striving to please God, Christina fully agrees to his terrifying terms of
physically suffering on Earth so male sinners in hell may be forgiven. God s terms for Christina
Mirabilis to be able to continue living on Earth as a human after she is resurrected come across as
highly discriminatory for the way Christina must take on the sufferings of male sinners even though
she does not commit these sins herself, learn to endure her gift of mystical smells, which intensities

Information Architectures for Websites
Information Architectures for Websites
Introduction
The common attribute all successful information architectures share is a strategic purpose that is
unified around specific, measurable, customer centric goals. The more precise an information
architectures purpose and objectives, the greater the potential it has to attain a high level of agility and
permanency in customers and users daily routines and lives (Spencer, 1985). Information architecture
is the catalyst that unifies the mission or purpose of a website, serves as the catalyst of its short and
long range goal attainment and also ensures its relevancy over time The intent of this analysis is to
evaluate the discussions and interviews completed with colleagues with regard to creating series of
recommendations that will provide present and future students of the BSITM Program with a roadmap
of lessons learned.
What is the mission or purpose of the organization?
For purposes of example, a new company was developed that designs, manufactures and sells build to

build to order model as Dell does, with the exception the final product will be a tablet PC customized
to specific customer preferences.
The mission of the organization is to be a state of the art provider of customized tablet PCs based on
the Google Android operating system, using the Samsung series of tablet platforms. The information

The Effect Of Monetary Policy On Determination Of Coal Prices
To examine the effect of monetary policy on determination of coal prices in the U.S., we rely on a
dynamic framework of cointegrated vector autoregression (CVAR). The prerequisite requirement for
the application of the CVAR approach is that the selected variables must be nonstationary (i.e., I(1)
series). The presence of a unit root in the variables is thus tested using the Dickey Fuller generalized
least squares (DF GLS) test (Elliott et al., 1996). Panel A of Table 1 reports the results of the DF GLS
test. Since the null hypothesis of a unit root cannot (can) be rejected for any of the levels (first
differences) of the three variables at the 5% level, all the series are found to be nonstationary I(1)
processes.
It should be emphasized, however, that because of inability of the DF GLS to capture the possibility of
a structural break, the power of the test is likely to decrease with an undetected structural break in the
series, thereby providing misleading results. For completeness, therefore, we investigate unit roots in
the presence of a structural break using the Perron Vogelsang (PV) test. The results of the PV test are
summarized in Panel B of Table 1. As seen in the DF GLS test, the null cannot (can) be rejected for all
the levels (first differences) of the variables, confirming that all the three variables are I(1) series.
Hence, it is certain that the underlying series are apparently all I(1) processes even after taking into
account a structural break in the series,

Red Lobster Marketing Essay

Red Lobster was started in 1968 with one location in Orlando, FL. Now it has grown to one of the
largest restaurant chains in the nation with 690 locations in all major cities. When Red Lobster was a
young chain in the 1980s, it had a reputation for high quality seafood away from the water. In recent
years, the company has struggled with its image. In a 2004 survey, participants questioned the quality
of the seafood and the taste/preparation of the seafood (exhibit 6). Red Lobster needed to change how

It is clear that Red Lobster should target these individuals because per customer Experientials spend
around $52 more than the current Indulgent targets per year (Exhibit 15). In addition, by targeting
these individuals and making small tweaks to the restaurants as they are renovated, Eclectics (the
second highest grossing average spent per year per customer) may also be drawn to the new changes
because of the similarities between these two parties. This is a perfect example of market
segmentation without having to radically change the scope of the company from the target
Experiential group.
With 690 locations nationwide, Red Lobster can be found in most major cities. Even though many of
the locations are close to water, there are still hundreds of locations in landlocked states (Exhibit 3). In
2009, Red Lobster tested their new renovation ideas at four locations in Florida in 2008, and another
30 around the country in 2009. Many people viewed Red Lobster as a low quality seafood restaurant,
but now they want to change into an upper scale restaurant in order to attract the Experiential market
(Exhibit 10, 11). Red Lobster should try to speed up the process of remodeling because, in the 34

The advantages resulting from this incorporation are immeasurable. For example, during a major
hurricane the Social Media Analyst can monitor information involving trapped survivors, areas
needing water, damaged traffic lights, and damaged roads. Moreover, in major flooding situations, the

will this incorporation save lives, but it will also reduce the amount of property damage that otherwise
would occur. The disadvantages of this incorporation are that existing personnel may feel threatened
by the change, that others will argue that it is too expensive and not worth the monetary expenditure,
and that some may feel it simply will not work better than the existing procedures. Another potential
drawback is failure to avoid biases and mind traps. One example is the confirmation bias or primacy
effect. This occurs when all evidence is examined in the context of confirming an existing belief.
Unfortunately, this occurred in the Iraq WMD scenario whereby everyone thought the weapons
already existed and ignored intelligence to the contrary. Another bias is group think. In this situation

Cardinal s sensual and artistic writing through colorful metaphors, imagery, poetic language and

From this portrayal of psychoanalysis through her prolific writing, one can get a thorough
understanding of the healing power of analysis through writing. The step by step process and
articulate expression of the habit of deep thinking in search of the inner experiences is expressed
clearly. The analysis was a journey of self discovery and Cardinal s transformation is evident from her
zeal for life at the end of the gestation period. Discovering what one is feeling and thinking, through
writing, helps negotiate and tolerate a new psychic space. It is one that is sometimes terrifying but
sometimes exhilarating (DeSalvo, 182). This is true of Cardinal after the analysis; she regained a new
self, free from the bondages that haunted her previous life. She was on a quest to secure her freedom
and truth.
The Words to Say It would be classified as a quest narrative. Frank describes this as a narrative that
tells self consciously of being transformed; undergoing transformation is a significant dimension of
the storyteller s responsibility (118). Cardinal was not the same after the illness and was even better
after going through treatment and finding her voice through writing. Moreover, the quest narrative
affords the ill their most distinctive voice (Frank, 115). Her goals in treatment were very clear from
the onset: to gain control over health and body and to discover self.

The Differences Between Mars And Earth
The atmosphere is defined as the envelope of gases surrounding the Earth or another planet
(Dictionary, 2017). The atmosphere is necessary for human life and without it, human life would not
be sustained. It acts as a protective shield that keeps the Earth warm. Not only does it act as a
protective shield however, it also protects all living things on Earth from the sun s extremely
damaging ultraviolet radiation. In addition to this, the atmosphere provides oxygen for both human
and animals to breathe, and it provides carbon dioxide for plants. Without the atmosphere, life would
not be sustained among all living things (Earth Rice, 2017).
Much to common disbelief, Mars and Earth have many things in common. Some of these factors
include similarities in size, inclination, structure, composition and the presence of water on their
surfaces (Universe Today, 2016). Mars is the next closest planet to Earth. It withholds all necessary
elements needed for life to exist. These include water, carbon dioxide (CO₂) and nitrogen
(HowStuffWorks, 2017). There are also unbelievable similarities between Mars atmosphere and the
Earth s atmosphere from billions of years ago. Like Mars, when the Earth was first formed it had no
oxygen and its atmosphere was comprised of carbon dioxide and nitrogen. Earth was not able to
produce oxygen until photosynthetic bacteria developed (HowStuffWorks, 2017). Mars atmosphere
consists of 95.3% carbon dioxide, 2.7% nitrogen, 1.6% argon and 0.2% oxygen.

To Speak or Not to Speak Essay
Learning is dynamic. It is kinetic in its growth, as humans begin to learn at their first breath and end
with their final. Some things people learn are small, like that a coworker loves a certain shade of blue;
while other things can save lives, such as when a toddler learns not to put silverware in an electrical
socket. Yet, how are many lessons learned in life? Simply said, the answer is through speech. Whether
by a mother s worried scolding or a professor s educated explanation, being able to speak is the
general way of spreading knowledge, and quite frankly why humans created language. With this
evident, the freedom of speech is irrefutably one of the most vital gifts given, especially during times

Thus, this also means revenue loss for the college and programs within. If the school also forbids
dating, such as in the first video, some people may never realize that their special person was right
there beside them the whole time and pass them by. Overall, any type of personal or educational
growth would be stunted tremendously.
Additionally, many required classes for a degree that stretch the mind of each student past its previous
level will be ineffective if freedom of speech is taken. For example, most degrees include a mandatory
ethics class, one that challenges their typical viewpoints and forces them to observe the world from the
other side. Debates in this class must be free to contemplate all angles and reasoning in order for them
to truly hold influence and spark the minds of its participants. The events of these friendly debates
would be impossible in a university that controls the speech of its students. Or what about those in
classes studying government? Students would learn about laws and the Constitution only to know that
their first amendment rights are being disregarded. What about those studying the Holocaust or
African American history? Their textbooks would be moderated, and any who wanted to look further
into his or her topic could be punished unrightfully like Keith John Sampson was for his novel. The
nation s universities must be fully aware of the dilemmas that eliminating the freedom of speech
would cause.

Web Analytics Tools And The Intelligent Resource
In many companies, regardless of their size, web analytics has been the answer to numerous questions.
Through its utilization, managers have a grasp of the website, visitors and their behavior so they can
be informed of what s working and what is not. For this reason, Web analytics, to a certain extent, can
drive business results. Along with its increasing popularity, there have been arguments over what
should be the ratio for investment on the tools and the intelligent resource. It goes without saying that
web analytics tools are valuable in gathering data across all the pages in a website and reporting it in

Second, most web analytics tools tend to provide a massive amount of data, but they fail to produce a

Data is important to any business, but it is of no value to the manager if all the work only involves

Economic feasibility shows the financial benefits and costs associated with the development of this
project. Analogous estimate is appropriate for preliminary estimation of project cost using the
previous project data as the information source for estimation (Patanakul, Iewwongcharoen,

Financial benefits depend on the products sold, marketing efforts, and quality of the app. According to

The Main Problem Of Drinking Alcohol
The main problem of drinking alcohol is that it causes intemperance. Intemperance is having an
excessive amount of something, instead of having it in moderation. The document states that
intemperance is an issue because it causes men to become irreclaimable in their habits, without
suspicion of danger (Major problems in the early republic). It states that men that drink an excessive
amount of alcohol aren t aware of their habits, and that some of their habits may cause danger without
them realizing it. The document describes alcohol as being a crime, and says that drinking an
excessive amount of alcohol causes theft and falsehood. This is not the main issue though, the main
problem is intemperance. Intemperance causes temptation, and when alcohol is first consumed it
usually starts out as prudent use, and later becomes addicting, and turns into a negligent habit. Once
intemperance takes place relationships can be affected, and even ruined, as well as the society. Alcohol
can corrupt the society in many different ways. It can cause poverty, and suffering, as well as take
money away from supporting things that are important like schools, colleges, and the government.
Instead of supporting schools, and colleges a huge portion of the entire capital of the nation is
mortgaged for the support of drunkards (Major problems in the early Republic). Instead of using

The Effects Of Psychedelics
In the 1950s and 60s research into the potential of psychedelic drugs to treat illnesses began but was
unfortunately stopped in the 70s due to legal opposition from governments and regulatory bodies. It
has only been in very recent years that laws and attitudes regarding psychedelics have changed enough
to allow for research to resume. During this time, evidence has been found to suggest that there is an
unlocked potential of psychedelics to lower rates of mental illness in many sufferers; treating

In humans, DMT is thought to be produced by the lungs (Mandel et al., 1972) and by the pineal gland
(Cozzi et al., 2011), where it also acts to influence mood, perception and thought. DMT is synthesized
from the enzymatic conversion of L tryptophan, which is produced endogenously in plants and is an
essential amino acid in animals, to tryptamine, which is then converted to N methyltryptamine, the
final precursor for N,N Dimethyltryptamine (Axelrod, 1961). DMT non selectively binds to 5 HT
serotonin receptors acting as an agonist or antagonist predominantly in the prefrontal cortex
(Strassman, 1996), an area of the brain responsible for mood and emotional processing (Yang and
Raine, 2009). As previously mentioned, it s been observed that depressed patients have reduced
activity in the prefrontal cortex (Gibb, 2012), so activating this area as well as bringing further release
of serotonin is what s thought to treat the depression and increase connections between emotions,

individuals as DMT often promotes the development of personal insights and self knowledge. DMT

The, A Venetian Nun And Early Modern Italian Author
Arcangela Tarabotti, a Venetian nun and early modern Italian author, spent the vast majority of her life
in an Italian convent writing various texts centered on issues of forced enclosure and the patriarchy.
Throughout her lifetime, she published five works, but one of her most poignant, Paternal Tyranny,
spoke to these issues in a uniquely powerful way. Indeed, Tarabotti focused on three significant main
points: the hypocrisy of putting daughters in convents, the problems with male patriarchy as a whole,
and her own interpretation of the Bible. She presented these points with the help of several rhetorical
strategies throughout the novel, such as, her ability to turn around popular claims about women and
apply them to men, her strong use of references to the Bible and popular literary works, her use of
parables throughout the work to clearly give examples of her arguments, and many more. By
exploring each of her arguments, we can see how she used these various rhetorical strategies to her
advantage. Indeed, one of her most interesting arguments throughout the novel was her own
interpretation of the Bible and the various people in the Bible. The reader is introduced to this
argument early on in the first book. For example, Tarabotti believes that Adam, not Eve, is mainly
responsible for the fall from grace. She argues that, if he [Adam] alone had the grace of free will and
was superior to Eve, she would not have sinned at all, despite the serpent s promptings and

The Importance of Classifying and Distinguishing Between Independent Contractors and Employee s
Briggs, Latisha J.
National University
Abstract Through this paper we will explore the importance of distinguishings classifications between
independent contractors and employees. We will examine identifying established relationship between
employers and workers while covering assigned roles of employees and independent contractors. We
will briefly discuss enacted laws and recommended practices to avoid misclassification penalties and
consequences. Lastly, we will explore vital factors that should be considered while classifying
workers.
The Importance of Distinguishing Classification Between Independent Contractors and Employees
Determining the classification between an independent contractor and an employee proves to be rather
complex, yet vital, regarding tax issues. Therefore, assigning correct classification is critical to both
employer and workers that carry out the labor, especially pertaining to benefits and tax payment
obligations. Organizations that classify their workers as employees assume financial responsibility for
them. Hartman asserts this by stating that, the distinction, however, is significant for tax law
compliance and categorization, for benefit plans, for cost reduction plans, and for discrimination
claims (Bennett Alexander, Hartman, 2012). Specifically, the employer s

The Slide Short Story
The Slide One summer morning, had my hot chocolate and took a shower. Then my stepmom said that
we were going to the waterpark. I was dancing on the inside untill she said we were leaving at 11:00
but it was 7:42. While I was waiting I was never so bored before then finally it was time to go. Getting
in the truck is easier said than done, it felt like Mt.Everest. Finally, I got into the truck and turned on
my tablet. It felt like it took forever to get there; I left like I was a new man when I got there. For some
reason I was starving, they had pizza, but it was tiny. The pizza was expensive five dollars each for a
little snack. I really wanted to ride the tunnel slide, but at the same time I didn t want to. I swam a few
laps and went

Write An Essay On Milton Hershey s
Hershey Invasion The Hershey s Company was rated as one of the most loved companies worldwide
and had an outstanding position within the U.S. chocolate industry. Milton Hershey was known by his
love and inclination to share warmth and endearment through delicious chocolate around the country.
At the age of fourteen he ventured into the candy business and remained there until his death in 1945
(Milton). Overall, he spent a lifetime devoted to changing the world through chocolate. Despite his
penniless upbringing, Milton Hershey was able to create a chocolate empire. Hershey s chocolate
quality is like no other, a taste that is recognized internationally. The quality of this famous chocolate

Hershey s began as a single building, creating chocolate, but soon transformed to thousands of
companies around the world. A founder of one of the world s largest confectionery companies ... He
[Milton] was a pioneer in the mass production of milk chocolate, turning it to form an expensive
luxury into an affordable, everyday treat (McMahon). Money was not a factor involved with this
creation of greatness but much more the quality given to his customers. Even though the quality was a
luxury he felt compelled to allow everyone to experience the flavor. Bringing the cost of chocolate
down made many more people able to buy the product. Milton Hershey was a man who measured
success not in dollars, but in terms of a good product to pass on the public, and still more in the
usefulness of those dollars for the benefit of his fellow man (Milton S.). Along with the products
growth in cost reduction, the company s development grew as well. More people were buying the
product all over the country so that called for an expansion of the industry. Hershey s creation is what
launched the chocolate industry that continues to expand today. The increase in consumers caused
growth around the world therefore adding to Hershey s

  • 2. Everyday Use By Alice Walker Heritage is defined as something that comes or belongs to one by reason of birth. In Everyday Use , by Alice Walker, the theme of the story can be considered as the meaning of heritage or even the power of education. Alice Walker uses many symbols and motifs such as the following: quilts, education, knowledge, Asalamalakim, and the renaming of Dee. In the story, African heritage and knowledge takes a major role. The African heritage plays a major role in the story, Everyday Use . Alice Walker emphasizes the meaning of heritage by having Dee come visit her family and contradicting her heritage. As Dee go off to college, she meets new people and finds her a boyfriend, Asalamalakim. Alice Walker adds attention onto Dee s new name, Wangero, because Dee changes her name, not understanding the true root of her original name. No, mama, she says. Not Dee, Wangero Leewanika Kemanjo! What happened to Dee ? I wanted to know. She s dead... (160). However, Dee truly believes that her heritage lies way back to Africa. The African clothes and name gives an understanding that Dee thinks that she is from Africa and that is where her heritage originally lies. In addition, Mama and Dee have different point of views on what heritage truly is. Mama tells Wangero (Dee) that her name comes from a line of ancestors, yet Wangero believes that her new name has more roots in it. • 3. Analysis Of Stephen Crane s The Open Boat Naturalism is a literary genre that focuses on how the role of social conditions, family background, and the environment shape the character. Most stories are based on the idea that the environment determines and governs human character (2015). Naturalists depict their characters as having little or no control over their lives, as they are usually removed of their free will by uncontrollable external forces (such as nature) or if they are in a lower class of society. Some characteristics of naturalist writing include determinism, pessimism, indifference to the environment, and survival. Stephen Crane s The Open Boat is an exemplar of naturalist writing, as it shows most, if not all, of these characteristics. 1. Determinism According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although steady, it was deep with mourning... (Crane p. 585). Though usually optimistic and upbeat, the captain shares a couple of pessimistic thoughts while they were stranded. In section 4, the captain says, if we don t get ashore...if we don t get ashore, I suppose you fellows know where to send news of my finish? (Crane p. 590). The captain, the supposed leader, says these discouraging words. He also repeats, If we don t get ashore which it also shows a pessimistic attitude. Even though pessimism is an important part of naturalism, an indifference of nature is one of the key characteristics in naturalistic literature, and it is shown in The Open Boat. 3. Indifference to Nature The four men in The Open Boat have no control over their situation as nature controls their story. This is shown in the first lines of the story: None of them knew the color of the sky. Their eyes glanced level, and were fastened upon the waves that swept them. (Crane p. 584). The first few sentences just say that the four men can t see the sky since the waves splash into them. Crane sets the scene of this bleak tale by giving the reader a setting that is the complete opposite of a serene, nice, day out on the water. It shows that the crew s lives are only going to go downhill from there. Later in section 1, Crane writes that A singular disadvantage of the sea lies in the fact that after successfully ... Ethics and Morality in Vegetarianism The assumption that animals are without rights, and the illusion that their treatment has no moral significance is a positively outrageous example of Western crudity and barbarity. Universal compassion is the only guarantee of morality. (Schopenhauer). I always wondered why some people are not so drawn to the consumption of meat and fed up with only one thought about it. Why so many people loathe of blood, and why so few people can easily kill and be slaughter animal, until they just get used to it? An ancient Greek philosopher and scientist Pythagoras was convinced that whoever kills an animal without any remorse can easily kill a man. Other philosophers were even more straightforward and indicated that cruelty to animals leads to wars. It leads me to believe that the attitude towards animals is not something we can merely write off as a showcase of the innate cruelty of man , but an indicator of our society s ethical level. If more people become aware of the suffering and death of animals that we, as a people, have caused, and acknowledge it, it would be a small, but significant sign of moral growth. Although moral principles have gained increasing recognition due to their usefulness for the society, i.e. for pragmatic reasons, the evolution of ethics had different roots psychological and spiritual. It is based on the person s ability for empathy: which is the basis of moral behavior of a person, his kindness, and decency. It can be argued that the ability for empathy separates man from the world of animals. With the development of spirituality and feelings of compassion, people began to feel uncomfortable by the fact that their actions were constantly associated with the infliction of suffering to other beings, and even their death. Even in ancient times, high minds have concluded that man, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jennings Professor Tres Brooks CCT 110 November 24, 2014 Encryption Encryption is a way to enhance the security of a message or file by scrambling the contents so that it can be read only by someone who has the right encryption key to unscramble it (Microsoft). Encryption uses an algorithm to change plain text data to cipher text. It played a very important role in wars and in military circles to protect top secret information from foreign countries. There are two types of encryption symmetric key and asymmetric key encryption. Symmetric is faster than asymmetric at decrypting the data. Sometimes asymmetric and symmetric encryption are used together. The symmetric key is encrypted using asymmetric encryption. SYMMETRIC KEY ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... DES was one of the first symmetric encryption methods used by NSA dating back to the 1970s. It used a 56 bit key and 8 bit parity. DES can easily be broken, which is why AES replaced it in 2001. AES is stronger and faster than DES. It can use a variety of key lengths (128 , 192 , or 256 bit). Other ciphers used with symmetric key encryption are Ron s Cipher v2 (RC2), Ron s Cipher v5 (RC5), International Data Encryption Algorithm (IDEA), Triple DES (3DES), Blowfish, Twofish, and SkipJack. ASYMMETRIC ENCRYPTION Asymmetric encryption (also known as public key encryption) uses two different keys that are mathematically similar but distinctly different. One key for encrypting (public key) and the other for decrypting (private key). The two keys together are called a key pair. The strength of the secrecy and integrity lies in the private key. Asymmetric encryption is usually used for smaller data, like the encryption of a symmetric key. Asymmetric uses multiple different protocols, including, SSL/TLS, IPSec, VPNs, S/MIME, and SSH tunnels. The most popular cipher used in asymmetric encryption is RSA (Rivest, Shamir, Adleman) created in 1977 by Ron Rivest, Adi Shamir and Leonard Adleman. It is based on factoring large numbers in their prime value (Wikipedia). RSA is the most secure. It ranges from 512 bits to 8,000 bits, which is about 2,401 digits. Relating to restaurants, diners stayed longer and consumed more alcoholic beverages when slow tempo music was playing in the background compared to fast tempo. (Alpert, Judy and Alpert, Mark, 1989). Of course this depends on the type of stores people are shopping at, this may be true for superstores, but stores like Nike acquire a different type of customer and are in need of a different type of atmosphere, which is explained in the following paragraph. Also if a restaurant were targeted more towards a younger crowd, then a more upbeat genre of music would be appropriate in order to influence the customers to stay longer and buy more alcoholic beverages. A study was done through face to face interviews and in store observation with sales associates and managers, and out of store with shoppers. Although Foucault believes that people are not the authors of society, discourses are governed independently of anyone s purpose (Learning Companion 2), the institutions he mentions help to keep order in society, although he is concerned about who can claim the authority of who has the power to rule how others should behave (Foucault cited by Silva, 2009, p319). When looking at Buchanans report I have found his findings to be similar to Foucaults in the way that they believe that rules have to be in place to have social order in society; Buchanan was commissioned to do his report by the UK government in 1961 which was Traffic in Towns aimed at finding solutions for urban space to accommodate pedestrians and cars. He found that social order was linked to the segregation of humans and motor vehicles and the need to create an array of measures in urban design for the regulation of the conduct of drivers and pedestrians, this vision is in contrast to Mondermans thesis of a shared approach. Did you know U.S. Immigration and customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested more than 41,300 undocumented immigrants in the 100 days since president Trump signed a pair of executive orders tightening border security and cracking down on sanctuary cities (Bendix). Well in many cases these undocumented immigrants are simply looking for better living in the United States for the fact that where they come from it s hard to find stable jobs, good living and education. The reason why president Trump signed a pair of executive orders was to get rid of undocumented immigrants with a criminal record or who pose a threat to national security remain a priority for the agency (Homan). The Reasons for the Hostility Between Austria Hungary and Serbia During 1878 and 1914 Between 1878 and 1914, there was generally a lot of hostility in the Balkans this was mainly due to the weakening Ottoman Empire, this allowed countries within it to start to fight for independence and the greater powers surrounding it to try and take over parts of it. After the Treaty of Berlin, 1878, Austria Hungary was given the right to occupy and administer the Ottoman province of Bosnia Herzegovina. In 1908, after growing fears of Serbia and Russia becoming stronger, Austria Hungary annexed Bosnia Herzegovina. The results of the first Balkan War in 1912 were another cause of hostility between the two countries. As a result of this war Serbia had gained control of the Adriatic coastline, and had also taken over Albania. Austria Hungary resented and feared the sudden growth of Serbia and wanted Serbia to give up both the Adriatic coast and Albania. Russia however supported the Serbs, and he and Austria Hungary mobilised their troops against one another. A peace treaty was drawn up and by May 1913 the Treaty of London was signed. In this treaty Serbia lost control of the Adriatic coast and Albania was made an independent state, however they did gain control of central and northern Macedonia. They felt this was inadequate and blamed Austria Hungary for their loss of land. This was a significant factor in the hostility between the two sides as it made Austria Hungary fear Serbian growth and angered Serbia as they felt that whenever they made gains of land in the Balkans the Austrians would thwart it. The results of the second Balkan war were also key factors in the hostility between the two countries. • 22. The Case Of Medieval Mystic Christina Of Mirabilis Life or death: what does one choose? Most people would agree to remain alive without much hesitation. In the case of Medieval Mystic Christina of Mirabilis, Christina also makes the hasty decision to continue living on Earth hoping to appease God even though her decision ultimately leads Christina to push her body to terrifying limits. In Elizabeth Alvilda Petroff s anthology titled Medieval Women s Visionary Literature, Thomas de Cantimpré s The Life of Christina of St. Trond, Called Christina Mirabilis depicts Christina s miraculous resurrection from the dead during her funeral procession at church. Before returning to her body on Earth, Christina is given the ultimate choice of her fate. De Cantimpre describes, either [Christina] [will] remain with [God] now, or return to [her] body and suffer the punishments of an immortal soul in a mortal body which, however, will remain unharmed. Thus by the pains [she] will suffer, [she] will deliver all those souls in purgatory whom [she] pitied (184 185). Striving to please God, Christina fully agrees to his terrifying terms of physically suffering on Earth so male sinners in hell may be forgiven. God s terms for Christina Mirabilis to be able to continue living on Earth as a human after she is resurrected come across as highly discriminatory for the way Christina must take on the sufferings of male sinners even though she does not commit these sins herself, learn to endure her gift of mystical smells, which intensities and ... • 25. The Effect Of Monetary Policy On Determination Of Coal Prices To examine the effect of monetary policy on determination of coal prices in the U.S., we rely on a dynamic framework of cointegrated vector autoregression (CVAR). The prerequisite requirement for the application of the CVAR approach is that the selected variables must be nonstationary (i.e., I(1) series). The presence of a unit root in the variables is thus tested using the Dickey Fuller generalized least squares (DF GLS) test (Elliott et al., 1996). Panel A of Table 1 reports the results of the DF GLS test. Since the null hypothesis of a unit root cannot (can) be rejected for any of the levels (first differences) of the three variables at the 5% level, all the series are found to be nonstationary I(1) processes. It should be emphasized, however, that because of inability of the DF GLS to capture the possibility of a structural break, the power of the test is likely to decrease with an undetected structural break in the series, thereby providing misleading results. For completeness, therefore, we investigate unit roots in the presence of a structural break using the Perron Vogelsang (PV) test. The results of the PV test are summarized in Panel B of Table 1. As seen in the DF GLS test, the null cannot (can) be rejected for all the levels (first differences) of the variables, confirming that all the three variables are I(1) series. Hence, it is certain that the underlying series are apparently all I(1) processes even after taking into account a structural break in the series, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The atmosphere is necessary for human life and without it, human life would not be sustained. It acts as a protective shield that keeps the Earth warm. Not only does it act as a protective shield however, it also protects all living things on Earth from the sun s extremely damaging ultraviolet radiation. In addition to this, the atmosphere provides oxygen for both human and animals to breathe, and it provides carbon dioxide for plants. Some of these factors include similarities in size, inclination, structure, composition and the presence of water on their surfaces (Universe Today, 2016). Mars is the next closest planet to Earth. Intemperance is having an excessive amount of something, instead of having it in moderation. The document states that intemperance is an issue because it causes men to become irreclaimable in their habits, without suspicion of danger (Major problems in the early republic). It states that men that drink an excessive amount of alcohol aren t aware of their habits, and that some of their habits may cause danger without them realizing it. The document describes alcohol as being a crime, and says that drinking an excessive amount of alcohol causes theft and falsehood. This is not the main issue though, the main problem is intemperance. In humans, DMT is thought to be produced by the lungs (Mandel et al., 1972) and by the pineal gland (Cozzi et al., 2011), where it also acts to influence mood, perception and thought. DMT is synthesized from the enzymatic conversion of L tryptophan, which is produced endogenously in plants and is an essential amino acid in animals, to tryptamine, which is then converted to N methyltryptamine, the final precursor for N,N Dimethyltryptamine (Axelrod, 1961). The, A Venetian Nun And Early Modern Italian Author Arcangela Tarabotti, a Venetian nun and early modern Italian author, spent the vast majority of her life in an Italian convent writing various texts centered on issues of forced enclosure and the patriarchy. Throughout her lifetime, she published five works, but one of her most poignant, Paternal Tyranny, spoke to these issues in a uniquely powerful way. Indeed, Tarabotti focused on three significant main points: the hypocrisy of putting daughters in convents, the problems with male patriarchy as a whole, and her own interpretation of the Bible. She presented these points with the help of several rhetorical strategies throughout the novel, such as, her ability to turn around popular claims about women and apply them to men, her strong use of references to the Bible and popular literary works, her use of parables throughout the work to clearly give examples of her arguments, and many more. By exploring each of her arguments, we can see how she used these various rhetorical strategies to her advantage. Indeed, one of her most interesting arguments throughout the novel was her own interpretation of the Bible and the various people in the Bible. The reader is introduced to this argument early on in the first book. For example, Tarabotti believes that Adam, not Eve, is mainly responsible for the fall from grace. HMR630 Week #1 Paper February 7, 2015 The Importance of Classifying and Distinguishing Between Independent Contractors and Employee s Briggs, Latisha J. National University Abstract Through this paper we will explore the importance of distinguishings classifications between independent contractors and employees. We will examine identifying established relationship between employers and workers while covering assigned roles of employees and independent contractors. We will briefly discuss enacted laws and recommended practices to avoid misclassification penalties and consequences. Lastly, we will explore vital factors that should be considered while classifying workers. The Importance of Distinguishing Classification Between Independent Contractors and Employees Determining the classification between an independent contractor and an employee proves to be rather complex, yet vital, regarding tax issues.
