My First Lifeline By Maya Angelou Analysis
In My First Lifeline written by Maya Angelou, the author vividly explains a lifeline thrown to her in a
time of need. The essay became a reflection of Angelou s childhood and presented the reasoning
behind some of the traits she acquired. Angelou utilizes vernacular speech, figurative language, and
sensory details to aid in expressing the first lifeline thrown at her. Throughout the essay, the use of
vernacular speech can be observed when looking at the dialogue between characters. For example,
Good day, Mrs. Henderson. Momma responded with How you, Sister Flowers? . In the dialogue
between Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Flowers, it can be seen that Flowers speaks respectively with
sophistication while Mrs. Henderson speaks carelessly using an older southern tone. This results in a
clear comparison between the characters in the essay which represent the importance of education and
vocabulary. The constant use of the wrong verb by Momma bothers the author, giving us a better idea
of language s role in her life. In addition, the author foreshadows part of the lifeline, so we gain a
better understanding of the story when the lifeline is presented later on. When describing the physical
appearances and feelings of a person, Angelou uses similes to give the reader a more accurate
visualization and sense of understanding. I sopped around ... like an old biscuit, dirty and inedible . In
the opening sentence, Angelou crafts a simile to accurately describe her feelings prior to

Comparing and Contrasting Low-Carbohydrate and Low-Fat Diets
Comparing and Contrasting Low Carbohydrate and Low Fat Diets
The low carbohydrate diet and the low fat diet take two different approaches to achieve the same goal
of weight loss. The fundamental difference between the two diets is found in the comparison of their
nutritional recommendations. Nutritional recommendations are the foundation of both diets, although
their views on the role carbohydrates, proteins, and fats should play differs greatly. Dieters are told
that following these nutritional recommendations will promote weight loss. The amount of weight loss
achieved with either diet fluctuates over time and in the end, the results for the two diets are similar.
Low carbohydrate diets recommend eating foods high in fat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Low fat diets achieve weight loss by requiring dieters to eat lots of carbohydrate rich foods while
restricting fat and protein intake. Low fat diets make a distinction between simple carbohydrates and
complex carbohydrates; foods made up mostly of simple carbohydrates such as sweets and white
bread are discouraged. Complex carbohydrates, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, make up
60% of the food required for weight loss on a low fat diet. In contrast to the Atkins diet, the low fat
diet restricts fat intake to no more that 25% of total calories. The theory is that diets low in fat and
high in complex carbohydrates help to promote weight loss by not contributing to existing fat stores
and by encouraging the body to utilize those fat stores through calorie restrictions, based on the
amount of calories you burn each day. To figure out ideal calorie consumption dieters can use a
formula provided by the American Heart Association (AHA); this formula uses the dieter s current
weight to determine the ideal calorie intake for weight loss. In contrast to the Atkins diet, the low fat
diet dictates what kinds of fat and protein are best. The low fat diet recommends that fat, when eaten,
be unsaturated and preferably healthful, such as fish or flax oil. It also limits protein intake to legumes
and lean meat, such as chicken and fish. Although the

Lenin s Death Of Tsar Of Russia
Born in 1870, Vladimir Illych Ulyanov, better known as Lenin was born to a well off middle class
family. Lenin was said to be a very gifted student but extremely bossy. In 1887, Lenin s elder brother
Alexander was arrested for plotting to kill the tsar of Russia which lead to his hanging. The rest of the
society refused to have anything to do with Lenin s family as Alexander had brought great shame on
the town. This was during the peak of Russia s Imperial period, so citizens treated the tsar as if he
were a God. It is claimed that when Lenin heard about the execution, he said I ll make them pay for
this. I swear I will. Many years later, Lenin s wife said that it was this event that turned Lenin into a
revolutionary with a desire to rid ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believed that the rich should be helping the poor. This was the root of his belief that any one man
making a profit was bad for society; to him production was meant for survival. Lenin says everybody
in society is equal and should have equal rights. So he believed that there must be a strong central
government which truly represents its people. How would Lenin bring about such a change? He
followed Marx s teachings.
In the second chapter of the communist manifesto headed Proletarians and Communists , Marx and
Engels mention the idea of a political vanguard party that must be formed with the task of leading the
proletariat in revolution. This was exactly what Vladimir Lenin did; he started a party, the Bolsheviks,
which played the role of the socialist vanguard. The Bolsheviks would eventually overthrow the Tsar
and promote the working class. The change in power from the bourgeoisie to the proletariat allows the
full development of socialism.
Lenin and Marx had the same take on the definition of socialism. They both believed that socialism is
the step between capitalism and communism. Yet they had differing approaches towards this. Marx
believed that there would be a capitalistic state in place before revolution forces it into socialism. This
is preceded by a quick and easy jump into the true communism. In Lenin s Russia they had just broken
out of feudalism and the economy was in unrest. So Lenin thought in Russia he could

Dentistry as a profession over the years has evolved rapidly in light of new scientific evidence.
Rapidly evolving science and technology have implemented changes within dentistry as evidenced by
new standards and guidelines being produced by nationally recognised associations including National
Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), Faculty of General Dental Practice (FGDP) and
Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) in Scotland, in provision of new scientific
evidence. The latest standards and guidelines produced, endorse everyday clinical practice through
evidence based dentistry (REF). All dental professionals as part of continued professional

Since the inception of the National Health Service (NHS) in 1948, regular six monthly check ups at
the general dental practice have been common (REF). However the patient should not have
radiographs taken routinely based solely because of time elapsed since previous examination. X rays
should only be taken after a thorough clinical examination and would be justified after a caries risk
assessment was undertaken with the patient categorised as being high, moderate or low caries risk
(REF).
In the event that after a thorough clinical examination and an updated medical history, the patient is
categorised as being high caries risk, FGDP guidelines support the taking of bitewing radiographs in
both children and adults at the initial examination. Six monthly bitewing radiographs are advised for
individuals who fall into the high caries risk status until no new or active lesions become apparent
(REF). However it is important not to take radiographs frequently and to reassess the patients risk
category, supported by a clinical examination and an updated medical history in order to justify using
this interval again (REF).
For the moderate caries risk

Year Round Schooling Should Be A Positive Change
Year Round Schooling Could be a Positive Change
Summer vacation. For most children and teens, the phrase conjures up images of hot, sunny days and
vacations with the whole family to far off places. We all envision lazy afternoons relaxing on the
beach, playing in water parks, and going on picnics. But what happens when summer ends and the
reality of another year of school sinks in?
A large portion of the knowledge gained during the last school year is lost over the long idle months
and must be retaught for weeks, which wastes a lot of time that could be spent learning new material.
This puts students behind in that year s curriculum, and over many summers, can add up to students
being months or years behind where they would be if no learning was lost. There is a solution to this
problem, however: year round school. Year round school provides many advantages for both students
and adults over the traditional summer vacation schedule.
The most important advantage of year round school is that it helps students retain knowledge.
Learning lost during the summer is a big problem. Proponents of year round school assert that having
shorter breaks would reduce learning loss because the students couldn t forget as much over a shorter
period of time. Detractors often say that there have been no reputable studies supporting this. It is true
that many studies had somewhat faulty methodologies, failing to account for other variables that could
have affected performance, like

Creating An Edible Gingerbread House
For many years, gingerbread houses have been made by families during Christmas season, as part of
Christmas festivities. Families gather around the table go bake and decorate gingerbread houses and
eat gingerbread cookies (Avey 2013). Some even participate in very competitive gingerbread house
making competitions. While these houses are very elaborate and take hours and hours of very hard
work, basic gingerbread houses are very easy to make and decorate (Bauer).
When creating an edible gingerbread house, the first step that needs to be completed is to gather all of
the materials needed to build and decorate the house. The materials needed are: half a cup (1 stick) of
room temperature butter, half a cup of dark brown sugar, one fourth of a cup of light molasses or dark
corn syrup, one tablespoon of cinnamon, one tablespoon of ground ginger, one and a half teaspoons of
ground cloves, one teaspoon of baking soda, two cups of white all purpose flour, two tablespoons of
water, white chocolate, one pound of powdered sugar, two large white eggs, one teaspoon of vanilla,
assorted candies, rimless cookie sheet, pastry bag (for icing), straight edged knife, thick paper, pencil,
ruler, and scissors. Candies are going to be used to decorate the house and should be chosen wisely
(Food Network).
Now the gingerbread for the gingerbread house can be started on. First, the butter should be creamed
in a large mixing bowl. After the butter is creamed, the brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon,

Comparison of Toc vs Lean

Comparison of Theory of Constraints (TOC) versus Lean Manufacturing
MBA 571
November 22, 2011
In today s business world, competition is fierce and manufacturers are struggling to squeeze out
operational costs reductions. To stay in competition, more and more organizations are trying to
determine what improvement method will work best and fit best with their culture. Each improvement
methodology appears to be driving toward common tools and concepts. However, different
methodologies begin the journey from different perspectives. Even though each improvement
methodology contributes valuable concepts, ideas and techniques to every organization not all of them

Advantages of TOC Even though these techniques diverge in a number of key areas and it can be seen
that TOC has several advantages. Lean sees an organization as a collection of parts and aims a local
optimization system where TOC focuses on a local action with holistic optimization for the
organization.
The Theory of Constraints (TOC) is a relatively new managerial philosophy that has been steadily
evolving since the early 1980s. TOC does advocate buffers at inventory at selected points to ensure
that neither the constraint nor the customer is left waiting. Lean aims to reduce lead time and
inventory and thus costs by eliminating waste; TOC aims to reduce lead time and inventory in order to
gain capacity, increase Throughput (i.e. the rate at which money is generated through the sale of
products) and provide a competitive edge thus enabling the business to grow.
Lean promotes maximum resource efficiency,

British Imperialism In Nigeria
British Imperialism in Nigeria
The British empire began in 16th century and lasted until around 1997. During this time Great Britain
controlled a lot of the World s land and population. Britain had immense power and used it for their
own dominance. They wanted to spread their ideology and culture to other societies.Britain was
imperializing many parts of the World. Imperialism occurs when a strong nation takes over a weaker
nation or region and dominates its economic, political, and cultural life ( Boisestate.edu).For Britain,
this process was strengthening their nation as a whole so they began to really expand their outreach.
After WWI Britain really started a long period of ruling. During this period, Europe s powers added
nearly nine million square miles (23,000,000 square kilometers) to their overseas colonial possessions.
As it was mostly unoccupied by the Western powers as late as the 1880s, Africa became the primary
target of the new imperialist expansion, although conquest took place also in other areas notably
Southeast Asia and the East Asian seaboard, where Japan joined the European powers scramble for
territory (New World 1). They were many countries involved in British imperialism however, one of
the most prominent and well known country was Nigeria. Nigeria was a huge gain for Britain because
Nigeria had access to an abundance of natural resources and also was a post for the slave trade that
Britain was heavily apart of at the time. There were many ways that British imperialism affected
Nigeria, some being positive and some being negative, the country dealt with them and learned from
every aspect of the situations trying to become a better and stronger country for their own sake. In this
paper websites played a large role in the research. I found that websites helped a lot because I was able
to find a lot of information on my topic in a quick amount of time. Also, living in Oklahoma it would
be hard to find a decent amount of information on the British and their rule over Nigeria. Databases
were another online resource I used to find an abundance of facts in a short time. Many of the
Databases were approved by the school so the information was very reliable and exact.

Write An Essay On Anthrax
Bacillus anthracis, more widely known as anthrax is an infectious disease that is caused by a gram
positive, bacillus shaped bacteria. See Appendix 2 for an image of the bacteria. It is naturally found in
soil and commonly affects domestic and wild animals. Inhaling or ingesting spores from contaminated
plants, soil, or water is how animals generally get infected. Humans can be infected in 4 different
manners. When anthrax gets inside the body, the spores are activated and they then multiply, spread
throughout the body, and produce toxins that cause severe illness. Anthrax is not contagious therefor it
cannot be caught like the common cold or flu.
Anthrax is considered to have originated in Mesopotamia and Egypt. Some scholars be lieve that
during the 10 plagues of Egypt, the fifth plague was due to anthrax. The sickness that occurred in the
fifth plagued the grazing livestock such as horses, cattle, sheep, camels and oxen. It is even suggested

Most of the antibiotics for anthrax are administered intravenously in a hospital. When anthrax spores
get inside the body, they will be activated . Once they are activated , the bacteria will grow and

When antitoxins are used to treat patients, it must be coupled with other treatment options. There is a
vaccine available for anthrax that comes in a 5 shot grouping over 18 months. The vaccine is
recommended for members of the United States Military, laboratory workers who come in contact
with anthrax and people who handle animals or animal products on a regular basis such as
veterinarians. The vaccine is currently only provided to those who have an increased risk of coming
into contact with anthrax spores. It is not permitted for anyone under the age of 18 or over the age of

Introduction:
The Domain Name System (DNS) is the system (or agent) responsible for resolving Domain Names
(such as www.google.com) to IP Addresses (such as 212.0.130.23), which is required to make the
Internet usable. This resolution list is distributed throughout the Internet in a hierarchy of authority.
There s normally a DNS server hosted by ISPs (Internet Service Providers) to serve their clients
(Rouse 2005). The basic operation of DNS in a single Internet resource request is shown in Figure 1
(AFNIC 2009). It functions like a database that is distributed over DNS machines that interact with
each other to be able to respond to a user s query. The top of the DNS hierarchy contains the top level
domains, such as .com, which are controlled by top level DNS servers. The DNS server
implementation which is used for this paper is BIND, which is the most widely used DNS server
implementation on the Internet today.
The Attack Surface of the DNS System:
The following are the general categories of attacks on DNS Servers, in terms of the nature of the
vulnerable target, which give the attacker the ability to impact on the normal behaviour of the DNS

Miss Julie Essay
Findings on the play:
Miss Julie is a play written by Johan August Strindberg in 1888. Strindberg was a Swedish playwright
born in 1849 in Stockholm, Sweden. The play has three characters, Miss Julie, a 25 year old who is
the daughter of a count, Jean, a 30 year old valet, and Kristin, a 35 year old cook. The play takes place
in the count s manor house in Sweden, on a midsummer eve in the 1880 s. Strindberg describes the
kitchen excessively so the reader could imagine the scene and everything that is going on. The play
opens with Jean walking into the kitchen, he talks to Kristin about Miss Julie s odd behavior. He says
that she was crazy since she went to dance in the barn and tried to waltz with him. Jean and Kristin

Social Norms
This paper will give a definition of deviance by analyzing the varying types and definition of
deviance. Violations of social norms is key to defining deviance. There are three key features within
social norms: time, place, and situation, that come together to establish deviance. The relativity of the
all of those events combined into one along with who is perceiving the act is what defines deviance
Social Norm are informal rules that help govern a society. Norms differ from place, time period, and
situations. When norms are violated and witnessed the offender, the one who broke the norm, is then
put in to one of two punishment categories. Primary deviance is occurs when the offender breaks a
lesser norm and is only slightly punished, it does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Criminal deviance is when a person becomes a deviant by disobeying the laws. Criminal deviance is
easy to define because even though laws change from time, place, and situation they are written down
and have already been agreed upon. Social deviance is much more difficult to define due to the
informal nature of social norms. A person can be either non deviant, a criminal deviant, a social
deviant, or bother a criminal and social deviant. Obey the speed limit can show all four these deviants.
On highways in America the left lane is referred to as the fast lane and the right hand lane as the slow
lane . A person going the maximum speed limit in the right hand lane is breaking neither laws nor
social norms. A person going ten miles an hour(mph) under the speed limit in the right lane, assuming
they are not slowing down to turn, is breaking the social norm of not going at least the speed limit, and
is therefore a social deviant. They are not breaking any laws, however. A person going five to ten mph
over the speed limit in the left hand lane is following the social norm. Since the person is going over
the speed limit they are now considered a criminal deviant. A person who is driving 50 mph regardless
of what lane they are is breaking both social norms and criminal laws, which makes them both a social
and criminal

Chromium Plating Research Paper
Due to the industrial restrictions in place across some the main areas of the world under health and
safety regulations, finding an alternative plating process to the current hexavalent chromium process
has become a real necessity. Trivalent chromium has proved to be a suitable replacement due to being
less toxic, both health wise and environmentally, whilst also demonstrating almost identical metal
finishes to those of the hexavalent chromium deposits. However, the trivalent chromium chemical
process is not without its difficulties, such as the inertness of the Cr3+ ions to be reduced to their
metallic state, or the initial inferiority of the metal deposits physical properties in comparison to the
deposits attained from conventional techniques. In order to overcome these issues multiple approaches
have been investigated.
It has been found that the use of complexing agents in the trivalent chromium electrolyte solution
work to generate stable complexes with Cr3+ through ligand exchange which are then easily reducible
to metallic chromium. Not only does this now allow chromium deposition to take place, but it also
improves the current efficiency of the electrodeposit. The process of co depositing chromium as an
alloy with other metals has shown to enhance the physical and chemical properties of the metal as
opposed to individual electrodepositions; an ability that is unattainable for hexavalent chromium,
giving an immediate advantage. In addition, the outcome of

of Honour, Signalman 1st Class Douglas Munro, who was awarded the Navy version for action during
the Battle of Guadalcanal. In the rare cases, 19 so far, where a service member has been awarded more
than one Medal of Honour, current regulations specify that an appropriate award device be cantered on

Black Mammy, The Happy Sambo And The Brute
Black is ugly, Blacks are savage, Blacks are happy servants. These were stereotypes that were played
up in the 19th century United States theatre/performances/literature. As the minstrel shows began to
appear and become popular, showing how slavery was a good thing. Whites controlled the appearance
of slavery and African Americans through these characters they created such as Black Mammy, the
Happy Sambo, and the Brute. All based off of stereotypes of the time, blacks portrayed as dumb,
docile, willing, or happy go lucky servants. Black Mammy, who first showed up in children s stories
and cartoons was a fat, pitch black, happily obedient servant. She was loyal to the family that she
worked for, taking care of the master s children. She was seen as kind and gentle towards the children,
wearing her bandana and a big smile. Though she had no figure and was ugly, she couldn t be seen as
sexual in any way otherwise, she might become a threat to the lady of the household. In her own
house, Black Mammy was in control, she was strong, and often times seem violent towards her own
family. They wanted to represent the in a fashion that was unattractive and seen as unfeminine. The

off a man dance that Rice saw being performed by a crippled black man. He popularized this dance by
playing up the idea of the happy fool and exaggerating the movements of the dance, and his
tattered/dirty appearance. This character really showed off the illiterate, happy go lucky servant, that

The Presidential Campaign And Obama s Administration
A key issue during the 2008 presidential campaign and Obama s administration was interest groups
and lobbyists. Obama had to deal with interest groups all throughout his presidency, whether it was
dealing with Congress or his interaction with committees. Over time interest groups have taken on a
larger and more important role in government. The interaction between interest groups and Obama
played an influential role in shaping his presidency. Special interest groups are a group of people,
usually formally organized that share a common concern and wish to influence public policy in some
way. The goal of all interest groups is to affect government policy for themselves or to further their
causes. A goal they have could be an exclusive policy that benefits group members or one segment of
society or a policy that affects a larger group such as the public as a whole. An example of an
exclusive policy is government subsidies for farmers and an example of a larger effecting policy is
improving air quality. The main method special interest groups use to accomplish their goals is
lobbying, which is trying to influence decisions made by legislators or other government officials.
Whether a government is democratic, authoritarian, or totalitarian, interests are a dominant and
permanent aspect of the political world. Furthermore, interest groups not only play a role on the
national stage, they exist at all levels of government: national, state, provincial, and local. Interest

Legend Of Zelda And God Of War
It has increasingly becoming apparent of the success of remake, reimaging, and sequel have in all
conventions of media outlets. In 2015 two popular franchises, Star Wars and Jurassic Park were the
highest grossing movies of that year (2015 Domestic Grosses). Comic books are adapted into Netflix
shows, video games such as Legend of Zelda and God of War are re released in high definition, and
television shows such as The X Files return with a new season after over a decade of being off the air.
While many perspective can and have been taken to begin to look at the aspect of this phenomena, this

The parasocial paradigm distinguishes itself from similar theories like identification and fandom
through its broader constructs that may encompass both depending of the parasocial experience.
However, this has make conceptualizing and operationalizing parasocial relationship inconsistent in
the literature and can often be entangled with identification. Some studies such as in Tian and Hoffner
s (2010) study went back to the roots by defining parasocial interactions as a responding to a media
persona as a friend or interaction partner (p. 252) distinct from their definition of identification.
However they claim that identification can serve as a process to help build parasocial relationships.
Hartmann and Goldhoorn (2011) built upon Horton and Wohl original conceptualization PSI; arguing
that PSI is an innate reaction that brings out social behaviors such as mindreading, mutual attention,
and mutual adjustment. On the other hand, there has been a school of thought that has evolved PSI as
a friendship like response towards a persona which has now evolved into the concept of parasocial
relationship. Unlike PSI, PSR is a long term effect in which a viewer has a social connection with a

Preventing High School Dropouts
By the time you reach high school, everyone knows someone who has dropped out. It has become a
common method of escape from whatever stresses school might be bringing upon a student. As time
goes on, more and more students seem to be dropping out of high school or college, with one student
dropping out approximately every 26 seconds. Most of them will not realize the long term effects until
it s too late. Students have begun choosing the easy way out and struggling later in life, generally
making thousands to hundreds of thousands less in their career. Though the dropout rate has fallen a
few percent in the recent years according to ( High School Dropout Rates ), the issue is still
prominent. Why do they do it and how can we prevent it?
The first big reason for dropping out is the simple lack of interest or academic difficulty in school.
They sit in class, doing anything but what they should be, waiting impatiently for the class to end. Or
they are dreading going to the next class. Nearly 26 percent report boredom as a contributing cause (
Why Kids Drop Out ). Many drop out due to the thought of even more school caused by failing
grades. The thought of even more time in a classroom proves to be too much and their motivation to
quit. Others may have other interests that take over any interest in their academics.
The second reason is problems outside of school. Be it family or housing

Garcinia Cambogia
Garcinia cambogia extract is a weight loss pill that was advertised by Dr. Oz during a segment on his
daytime talk show. Dr. Oz introduced the product using persuasive language to provoke viewer
interest, claiming the pill is the magic ingredient to lose weight without diet or exercise. He explained
that garcinia cambogia extract is found in the rind of tamarind fruit from Southeast Asia and that the
fruit is known to have medicinal benefits. Dr. Oz stated that garcinia cambogia may have more
promise than other weight loss products because it reduces body fat and suppresses appetite. The
active ingredient found in garcinia cambogia, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), aids to block an enzyme
which makes fat. HCA also increases the release of the hormone serotonin, which reduces the craving
for food. Additionally, garcinia cambogia can decrease total cholesterol and triglycerides, with
potential improvement in leptin and insulin resistance in the obese. The product was advertised during
the segment to target women who are seeking an easy alternative to lose weight fast. This is apparent
as the majority of the studio audience is composed of middle aged women who represent the intended
population. By allowing the audience to ask questions that Dr. Oz answers on the spot, viewers are left
with more confidence in the product. Dr. Oz specifically manipulates his language with the objective
to entice women, referring to weight loss as a decrease in dress size. Dr. Oz conveys a sense of

Psychological Manipulation
Psychological manipulation is a type of social influence that aims to change the behavior or perception
of others through abusive, deceptive, or underhanded tactics by advancing the interests of the

devious, and deceptive. The process of manipulation involves bringing an unknowing victim under the
domination of the manipulator, often using deception, and using the victim to serve their own
purposes. Psychological manipulation can be used by people with great power as well as the common

In a psychologically coercive environment, the victim is forced to adapt in a series of small invisible
steps. Each step is sufficiently small that the subject does not notice the changes or identify the
coercive nature of the process until much later, if ever. These tactics can be reinforced in a group
setting by well intended, but deceived, friends and allies of the victim. (Good cop/Bad cop). This
keeps the victim from setting up the ego defenses normally maintained in known adversarial
situations. Psychological coercion overcomes the individual s critical thinking abilities and free will
apart from any appeal to informed judgment. Victims gradually lose their ability to make independent
decisions and exercise informed consent. Their emotional defenses, cognitive processes, values, ideas,
attitudes, conduct and ability to reason are undermined, and decisions are no longer through
meaningful free choice, rationality, or the inherent merit or value of the ideas or propositions being
presented. Coercive psychological systems violate our most fundamental concepts of basic human
rights. They violate rights of individuals that are guaranteed by many declarations of principle

New Zealanders Should Never Dream Of Being Cruel
New Zealanders would never dream of being cruel to an animal. After all animals are sentient beings.
Therefore they are capable of being aware of sensations and emotions of feeling pain and suffering. In
today s world, factory farming has become popular as they are cheaper ways to produce more output
efficiently. The industry strives to maximize output and revenue while minimising cost at the expense
of animals. The giant companies that run most of the factory farming have developed caging systems
which allow for greater animals to be living in small crammed space for greater profit and
output. These animals are deprived of exercise of that their body s energy contributes more towards
producing flesh, milk or egg. Drugs are fed and animals are being genetically altered to be grown fat
so they could keep them alive longer. We as humans, eat a lot of eggs. Just over 3 million eggs are
consumed by New Zealanders and the vast majority of these eggs are produced from factory farmed
eggs (Hibbard, 2014). The factory farmed hens are placed in small battery hen cages allowing space
similar to an A4 size sheet. These animals have their beaks trimmed to minimise feather pecking and
cannibalism in this overcrowded conditions. De beaking is an extremely painful process, which is
carried out with a guillotine type machine or chopped off with a hot knife machine that burns it off.

Blindness And Socialism
Blindness
Blindness by Jose Saramago is a piece that shows many examples of political ideologies. The two
most prominent being conservatism and socialism. Now, Jose Saramago being a prominent believer in
the ideas of socialism as a whole, it is no surprise that his book Blindness includes many scenes that
portray, in favor, the fundamental concepts of socialist beliefs. This includes the variety of the people
who were blinded and the cooperation and organization of the main party involved. But, it is
interesting to point out that he also includes examples of the beliefs of conservatism but also scenes
where he criticizes it. This can be shown in scenes like when the food starts being stolen in quarantine
and in the rise in the leadership of the man with the gun.
A concept of socialism is that everyone should be equal and that there should be no class distinctions
based on ownership to promote an equal playing field for all members of society. We see this concept
in action when the wave of blindness affects people of all classes, from a ... Show more content on

Socialists believe that cooperation and groups are preferred over competition and individualism. This
cooperation results in strengthened bonds within the community and this is exactly what we see
throughout this book. An example would be the relationship between the members of the doctor s

get food. Even if they do not want to, they do it for the collective good. Not one of them stays behind,
and when they return they all shower together and this shows the growing bond between them.
Another example is when they escape the compound and decide to stick together because they realized
there is nothing left for them in their homes and that they are better off with each other. This
relationship goes to show the power they have as a group, and not acting

Francis Scott Key s The Star-Spangled Banner
The Star Spangled Banner was written by Francis Scott Key as he watched his fellow Americans stand
strong in their darkest hour. For over twenty four hours Fort McHenry was bombarded by British
Navy, but the American troops fought, and so did their families. The Americans rallied around the
singular flag that stood high in the fort, and a flag that was a target for the British armada. They
planned to destroy the flag to disrupt moral, but the Americans refused to let it fall. They used that
singular flag as motivation, and motivation that eventually won them the battle. The flag still holds the
same purpose today. To remember those who have fought, or are currently fighting in our armies. It
also serves as a source of pride, motivation, and patriotism towards our country. Knowing what our
flag means to our history and our country, we can t possibly keep letting our countries source of pride
be disrespected by those attempting to promote their own cause. Are nations athletes that choose to

The Importance of New Zealand’s Forestry Industry Essay
New Zealand s forests are one of its greatest natural resources, holding significant financial, physical,
and spiritual value (DOC, 2013). These forests provide a significant trading resource (Perry, Oren,

Miso Park Symbolism
Miso Park
It s my symbol and I ll cry if I want to
If enough writers use a given object or situation in enough works, we start to recognize and
understand the range of possible meanings (Foster 242)
 Some symbols are very easy to detect (common)
 Example: rain=sadness or fire=hope
In a situation where we encounter purely private symbols, there are some things we can fall back on
(Foster 245)
 Some symbols are harder to detect
 They are private , meaning that you need a deeper analysis to uncover what the symbol represents
Use what you know (Foster 248)
 What you learn from one book will also apply to future books as well
 The only thing that can prepare you to read a certain book is to read the book
Every work teaches us how to read it as we go along (Foster 248)

more alarming nearly one fourth of all youth suicides in BC are committed by aboriginals and more
than half of all aboriginal suicides are committed by youth (Chandler). The fact that indigenous
communities in Canada have the highest rate of suicide of any culturally identifiable group in the
world implies that these alarming statistics may not solely be a result of aboriginal communities
belonging to a minority cultural group. I will attempt to build a speculative hypothesis behind the
significantly high suicide rates amongst aboriginal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This theory predicts that there are two components to suicide. First off, perception of burdening others
and feeling socially alienated combine to result in the desire to die. However, an individual will not
act on this desire unless he/she has developed a capability to do so. Capability to commit suicide is
developed through habituation from overexposure which perhaps desensitizes the individual to
experiences that are painful. This may be vital in allowing the individual to overcome innate instincts
for survival and prepare him/her to act on the desire to die. Aboriginal people in Canada have
undergone tremendous acculturation and marginalization (failing to acquire and value Aboriginal
values and identity, while also failing to identify with the cultural values of the larger society) which
may be responsible in making them perceive themselves as a burden to others and feel socially
alienated. Such feelings, based on the interpersonal psychological theory, might instil the desire to die.
Habituation and as a result, desensitization to the fear and pain associated with a suicidal experience,
could be occurring due to high rates of suicide in one s community. Thus, the interpersonal
psychological theory provides some insight into aboriginal suicide. However, the picture is incomplete
as this explanation could be applied to suicide amongst patients

The Dark Knight
You only have your thoughts and dreams ahead of you. You are someone. You mean something. Very
inspirational quote right, maybe it came from the president or Oprah, someone big right? It came from
a fictional character in a comic book, Batman the Dark Knight. Comics have become something
greater than what people consider them to be. Especially the characters portrayed in said comics.
Comic books are literally larger than life, the characters in these comics may have superpowers or live
in a place that would only exist in the craziest of dreams. But they are written so well that it really
does convince one to believe that a place like this may actually exist and that anything can happen in
it. This is how they get the reader, into the comic; and because of this you are entertained. We read our
favorite comic books and take in the lessons written in each and every page. Such as Batman. Batman
is one of the greatest and well known heroes in the comic book world. He has been very popular in
pop culture throughout the years because of television and movie adaptations.
When I was growing up I was first introduced to the Dark Knight by my dad when he would turn on
the television every Saturday morning and tune into Batman The Animated Series. I remember
instantly gaining interest in it because he was really cool, he fought bad guys, and he had all these
gadgets that helped him fight for justice.

Some historians claim that it was the mesmerizing Anne Boleyn that struck a chord in the King s
heart, persuading him to divorce Catherine. However, his discontent with his first marriage begins
earlier than that. Although historians cannot pinpoint the exact date, it is noted that Henry began
questioning their marriage as early as 1524 or 1525 when physicians informed him that Catherine was
reaching menopause. Furthermore, the birth of his illegitimate son, Henry Fitzroy, to his mistress,
Bessie Blount, in 1519 is proof that Henry was capable of producing a healthy, living son. When
Catherine reached the age of forty, she had been pregnant seven times, six of the children dying within
days of delivery. These pregnancies took a toll on Catherine s body and she was declining in her
physical charms . Her inability to provide a male heir threatened the line of succession and furthered
Henry s dissatisfaction By 1527, he had become completely infatuated with Anne Boleyn and had
begun finding ways to get rid of Catherine. He began speaking of guilt and the feeling of incest from
marrying his brother s wife and would often cite Leviticus 20:16 ( If a man shall take his brother s

Henry and Catherine were able to have a daughter, the lack of a male heir was enough to torment

Analysis Of Herbert Marcuse s One Dimensional Man
Herbert Marcuse, a Frankfurt philosopher, wrote his book One Dimensional Man in the 1960 s during

of modern industrial capitalism and as Marcuse believed, its subsequent exploitation of people and
nature, as well as its contribution to modern consumer culture and new forms of social control. One
Dimensional Man offers an analysis of the new state of consumerism during the 1960 s through a

However, he never addresses what the standards are for defining what is true and false. He also argues
that it is the individual who must ultimately decide this, but at the same time, the individual does not
have the mental capacity to do so (Marcuse, H. 1968). This development of false needs results in one
dimensional thought and behaviour where the ability for individuals to think critically is
compromised. This lack of critical thinking results in a flattening of discussion, critic and
independence. What Marcuse is ultimately saying is that the capacity for independent thought is
becoming blurred with the influence of consumer culture. The ability for those within an advanced
industrial society to reason between two dimensions (Marcuse, H. 1968), in other words, to look at an
industrial society characterised by labour and waste while still acknowledging technological progress,
and to imagine a form of living that uses technology to aid nature rather than perpetuate poverty and
oppression within the society. Why do false needs exist? they are a means of making money.
Consumers think they are free to choose what product they want to purchase, Marcuse calls this

Abstract Android is one of the biggest operating system for smart devices in the market and its
application greatly impact life of billions of people. Thus it is safe to assume security will be too.
Security is a big issue for Android as its application is given rights to access several information and

Ancient Greek Instruments And Modern Day Instruments
Ancient Greek instruments had similar uses as modern day instruments, but there are some very
obvious differences. Ancient Greek instruments were used in more solo fashion, usually
accompanying a singer, chorus, or poet, whereas modern day instruments are typically used in
ensemble situations. There is more variety of instruments in modern day than in Ancient Greece due to
modern day advancements and production methods. Modern people are able to buy instruments from
many different markets and these instruments are mass produced on assembly lines or by specialists,
therefore the availability of instruments is higher in modern day than in Ancient times, where
everything was handmade and took longer. This is also due to the globalization of modern day
economies, where an individual can have access to basically any kind of instrument they desire,
whereas in ancient Greece where contact with other cultures was not as pronounced as it is today,
there were not as many instruments available to their use, only ones of their own design or of nearby
cultures. Ancient Greek instruments were not as complex as modern instruments are designed. Typical
instruments were created by adding holes that would be covered by the player s fingers, or they were
created as string instruments where one would simply pluck at the string to produce a noise. There
were some advancements of Greek instruments over time, such as with the aulos. In modern times,
though, because instruments have been able to

How Did Rosa Parks Influence The Civil Rights Movement
Rosa Parks, Gloria Richardson, Fannie Lou Hamer, and Dorothy Height made a difference in the Civil
Rights Movement through protest. Out of all the activists from the civil rights movement that are
highly spoken of and remembered today, only one is a woman. Her name is Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks is
a famous leader of the Civil Rights Movement. She is the only women mentioned in most stories
about the movement, because of her courage and influential behavior that started the Montgomery Bus
Boycott. On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks got on a bus on her way home from a long day of work.
She took a seat at the front of the colored section of the bus, and waited for the bus to take her home.

She openly challenged the Mississippi government to desegregate the state, and ended up winning.
She was severely beaten throughout her career as an activist. She was arrested, beaten, shot at, and
threatened. She was beaten so badly in a Mississippi jail, that she suffered permanent kidney damage.
Fannie Lou Hamer helped African Americans be able to vote, by teaching them how to read and write,
making it easier for them to pass literacy tests. She increased the rate of African American voters, but
because of her bold actions, she was kicked off of the plantation she lived on and lost her job. She
spoke to a newspaper telling them, They kicked me off the plantation, they set me free. It s the best
thing that could happen. Now I can work for my people ( Fannie ). Fannie went on to work for her
people by co founding the Mississippi Democratic Freedom party. She televised a democratic
convention discussing the amount of segregation in Mississippi and the cruelty of some people in her
town. The government then began to realise how unconstitutional all of these segregation laws were.
Fannie Lou Hamer worked for her people, fighting for what she believed in, until the day she died

Creating An Effective Working Environment And...
The three learner profile attributes that I believe are most important in creating an effective working
environment and collaborative team are open minded, communicator and inquirer.
They will need to be open minded learners because to properly adapt to new situations, and new
environments with different people they ll have to understand there s more than one way to do things
which ll help them become better leaders. This will benefit the team, because everyone will learn from
each other and their different cultures. They ll learn from the places they ll be visiting and they ll all
get the chance to see the world from different points of view. As they do this they will be trying new
experiences together which will help them become closer and will let them build on previous ideas by
using the knowledge they ve gained from the new experiences. For these reasons, being open minded
will help the team be more successful. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the members of a team communicate with open minds and ask questions instead of making
assumptions they re more likely to build trust and positivity throughout the working environment and
can help distribute responsibilities and can make it more organized and fluent. Without effective
communication it can lead to tension and anxiety among the team members. As you can see effective
communication is essential in a

Difference Between Rsa And Mvp Classification Analysis And...
1.1 What is representational similarity analysis?
Representational similarity analysis (RSA) is an analysis framework builds on a rich
psychological and mathematical literature, in which multi channel measures of neural activity
are quantitatively related to each other and to computational theory and behavior by comparing
RDMs. RDM is the representational dissimilarity matrix, which contains a cell for each pair of
experimental conditions. Each cell is a number reflecting the dissimilarity between the activity
patterns associated with the two conditions. The core of the of RSA is to use RDM as a signature
of the representations in brain regions and computational models (Kriegeskorte, Mur,
Bandettini, 2008).
1.2 The differences between RSA and MVP classification analysis and the new information
that can be obtained from representational similarity analysis that is not revealed by MVP
classification or univariate analysis.
RSA is a particular versatile version of MVPA. It goes beyond testing of information in
regional response patterns and enables researchers to handle condition rich experiments without
predefined stimulus categories, to test conceptual and computational models, and to relate
representations between humans and monkeys, and even to related across different types of brain
activity measurements.
1.2.1 Major differences:
1) MVP classification analysis focus on the representations of the brain associated with

Unusual Animal Friendships
Have you ever thought about the relationships between animals? Two very different kinds of animals
can get a very strong bond between each other. They will start to care for each other even if they are
not the same species. Like a dog taking care of a littler of kittens because the kittens have no mother.
They will even feed offspring that are not even there own. I do believe that a dog that just had puppies
will take care of a litter of cats.
Animals will care for one another. Like the lions in the passage Animal roles and relationship. The
lions look out for the little cubs while the other ones go hunt and get food for them to eat. I know this
because in passage one it says, In a pride of lions lionesses are the hunters while the males are the
protectors. Also like Bea the giraffe and Wilma the ostrich. They both have a lot of land to walk
around but they are always together. Bea cleans Wilma with her long tongue an Wilma likes to cuddle
close to her side. I know this because in the second passage Unusual Animal Friendships it says , Bea
likes to clean Wilma with her long tongue and Wilma likes to cuddle close to her friend. ... Show more

because in the text it says, He was moved to an endangered wildlife refuge in South Carolina where
doctors feared he would not live long. The text also said, Thanks to Roscoe for his help Suryia always
shares his snacks with his best friend. Another example is how a crab feeds the sea anemone. I know
this because in the text it sates, Sea anemones also get free food by eating the leftovers from hermit

Reflection Paper
As a middle school teacher you must be prepared to articulate your viewpoint on issues relative to
education, young adolescent development, middle school structure and organization, curriculum,
instruction, and assessment, classroom management, family and community involvement, and
leadership and organizations. It is sometimes important that teachers within a team, subject area, grade
division, or school building come to a consensus of thought and practice for the sake of providing the
best, enriched educational environment for the success of students
As the course develops, you will be reflecting on the topics presented in the This We Believe: Keys to
Educating Young Adolescents textbook. Student reflections should include elaboration on your
understanding of the topic, suggestions for applying the concept in middle school environment, and/or
discussion of foreseen issues or problems if concepts are implemented in your classroom or school.
Discussion questions are designed to prompt your thinking; the questions have no right answer but
your thoughts must be well communicated to the reader and professionally spoken.
Reflective Response topics will be posted on Moodle for a predetermined scheduled time (Tentative
Course Schedule and Due Dates). Students must provide a meaningful and thoughtful reflective
response to each of the instructor s threaded prompts Students responses cannot be solely questions,
they must also add additional information or thoughts to

In difficult financial times, companies face various moral issues to try to keep up with their

Lemon Pound Cake
Are you tired of the old boring pound cake? Well guess what I have lemon pound cake for you. I am
going to tell how you how to make it from my own experience. First, you have to get the ingredients
to make the cake. You may alternate many ingredients if you make it different or used to something
else it is all up to you. These are the ingredients for the cake; you are going to want a ½ of butter for
the moistness of the cake. Also sugar, the recipe I use only calls for ¼ of sugar but you use less or
more depending on how sweet you like cake. 1 ½ of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, an ½ cup of
milk, 2 eggs, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice for the man part of the cake. You may add salt if you
would like I usually don t. For the icing which is fairly easy you will only need ¼ cup of ... Show

Well preheat the oven to 325°F. Beat the eggs very well in a separate bowl then add the 1 tablespoon
of lemon juice in that bowl along with it and mix well. Have the butter melted in a different but big
bowl and add the 1 cup of sugar. Then you will easily add the flour, egg mixture, salt, and baking
powder to that big bowl and mix. Stir very vigorously for about 10 15 minutes. If you would like to
you can use a mixture on a very low level for only about 3 to 5 minutes. Into the dark coated pan that
should already be sprayed you pour the batter into the pan. Make sure that it is even and mixed very
well if not your pound cake will cook uneven and will have many lump in the cake It won t taste very
well. Trust me from personal experience. If you are to realize that your cake is lumpy take out of oven
and gently take the sides of the pan pound it on the counter or stove and it should help. If it is still I
little lumpy and you think that is it ok to take it out and stir it a little more than that is what I
recommend you do

  • 2. My First Lifeline By Maya Angelou Analysis In My First Lifeline written by Maya Angelou, the author vividly explains a lifeline thrown to her in a time of need. The essay became a reflection of Angelou s childhood and presented the reasoning behind some of the traits she acquired. Angelou utilizes vernacular speech, figurative language, and sensory details to aid in expressing the first lifeline thrown at her. Throughout the essay, the use of vernacular speech can be observed when looking at the dialogue between characters. For example, Good day, Mrs. Henderson. Momma responded with How you, Sister Flowers? . In the dialogue between Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Flowers, it can be seen that Flowers speaks respectively with sophistication while Mrs. Henderson speaks carelessly using an older southern tone. This results in a clear comparison between the characters in the essay which represent the importance of education and vocabulary. The constant use of the wrong verb by Momma bothers the author, giving us a better idea of language s role in her life. In addition, the author foreshadows part of the lifeline, so we gain a better understanding of the story when the lifeline is presented later on. When describing the physical appearances and feelings of a person, Angelou uses similes to give the reader a more accurate visualization and sense of understanding. I sopped around ... like an old biscuit, dirty and inedible . In the opening sentence, Angelou crafts a simile to accurately describe her feelings prior to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nutritional recommendations are the foundation of both diets, although their views on the role carbohydrates, proteins, and fats should play differs greatly. Dieters are told that following these nutritional recommendations will promote weight loss. The amount of weight loss achieved with either diet fluctuates over time and in the end, the results for the two diets are similar. Low carbohydrate diets recommend eating foods high in fat ... Complex carbohydrates, such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, make up 60% of the food required for weight loss on a low fat diet. In contrast to the Atkins diet, the low fat diet restricts fat intake to no more that 25% of total calories. The theory is that diets low in fat and high in complex carbohydrates help to promote weight loss by not contributing to existing fat stores and by encouraging the body to utilize those fat stores through calorie restrictions, based on the amount of calories you burn each day. To figure out ideal calorie consumption dieters can use a formula provided by the American Heart Association (AHA); this formula uses the dieter s current weight to determine the ideal calorie intake for weight loss. In contrast to the Atkins diet, the low fat diet dictates what kinds of fat and protein are best. The low fat diet recommends that fat, when eaten, be unsaturated and preferably healthful, such as fish or flax oil. It also limits protein intake to legumes and lean meat, such as chicken and fish. • 4. Lenin s Death Of Tsar Of Russia Born in 1870, Vladimir Illych Ulyanov, better known as Lenin was born to a well off middle class family. Lenin was said to be a very gifted student but extremely bossy. In 1887, Lenin s elder brother Alexander was arrested for plotting to kill the tsar of Russia which lead to his hanging. The rest of the society refused to have anything to do with Lenin s family as Alexander had brought great shame on the town. This was during the peak of Russia s Imperial period, so citizens treated the tsar as if he were a God. It is claimed that when Lenin heard about the execution, he said I ll make them pay for this. He believed that the rich should be helping the poor. This was the root of his belief that any one man making a profit was bad for society; to him production was meant for survival. Lenin says everybody in society is equal and should have equal rights. So he believed that there must be a strong central government which truly represents its people. How would Lenin bring about such a change? He followed Marx s teachings. In the second chapter of the communist manifesto headed Proletarians and Communists , Marx and Engels mention the idea of a political vanguard party that must be formed with the task of leading the proletariat in revolution. This was exactly what Vladimir Lenin did; he started a party, the Bolsheviks, which played the role of the socialist vanguard. The Bolsheviks would eventually overthrow the Tsar and promote the working class. The change in power from the bourgeoisie to the proletariat allows the full development of socialism. Lenin and Marx had the same take on the definition of socialism. They both believed that socialism is the step between capitalism and communism. Yet they had differing approaches towards this. Marx believed that there would be a capitalistic state in place before revolution forces it into socialism. This is preceded by a quick and easy jump into the true communism. • 6. Year Round Schooling Should Be A Positive Change Year Round Schooling Could be a Positive Change Summer vacation. For most children and teens, the phrase conjures up images of hot, sunny days and vacations with the whole family to far off places. We all envision lazy afternoons relaxing on the beach, playing in water parks, and going on picnics. But what happens when summer ends and the reality of another year of school sinks in? A large portion of the knowledge gained during the last school year is lost over the long idle months and must be retaught for weeks, which wastes a lot of time that could be spent learning new material. This puts students behind in that year s curriculum, and over many summers, can add up to students being months or years behind where they would be if no learning was lost. There is a solution to this problem, however: year round school. Year round school provides many advantages for both students and adults over the traditional summer vacation schedule. The most important advantage of year round school is that it helps students retain knowledge. Learning lost during the summer is a big problem. Proponents of year round school assert that having shorter breaks would reduce learning loss because the students couldn t forget as much over a shorter period of time. Detractors often say that there have been no reputable studies supporting this. It is true that many studies had somewhat faulty methodologies, failing to account for other variables that could have affected performance, like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Imperialism occurs when a strong nation takes over a weaker nation or region and dominates its economic, political, and cultural life ( Boisestate.edu).For Britain, this process was strengthening their nation as a whole so they began to really expand their outreach. After WWI Britain really started a long period of ruling. During this period, Europe s powers added nearly nine million square miles (23,000,000 square kilometers) to their overseas colonial possessions. As it was mostly unoccupied by the Western powers as late as the 1880s, Africa became the primary target of the new imperialist expansion, although conquest took place also in other areas notably Southeast Asia and the East Asian seaboard, where Japan joined the European powers scramble for territory (New World 1). • 17. Chromium Plating Research Paper Due to the industrial restrictions in place across some the main areas of the world under health and safety regulations, finding an alternative plating process to the current hexavalent chromium process has become a real necessity. Trivalent chromium has proved to be a suitable replacement due to being less toxic, both health wise and environmentally, whilst also demonstrating almost identical metal finishes to those of the hexavalent chromium deposits. However, the trivalent chromium chemical process is not without its difficulties, such as the inertness of the Cr3+ ions to be reduced to their metallic state, or the initial inferiority of the metal deposits physical properties in comparison to the deposits attained from conventional techniques. In order to overcome these issues multiple approaches have been investigated. It has been found that the use of complexing agents in the trivalent chromium electrolyte solution work to generate stable complexes with Cr3+ through ligand exchange which are then easily reducible to metallic chromium. Not only does this now allow chromium deposition to take place, but it also improves the current efficiency of the electrodeposit. The process of co depositing chromium as an alloy with other metals has shown to enhance the physical and chemical properties of the metal as opposed to individual electrodepositions; an ability that is unattainable for hexavalent chromium, giving an immediate advantage. Some studies such as in Tian and Hoffner s (2010) study went back to the roots by defining parasocial interactions as a responding to a media persona as a friend or interaction partner (p. 252) distinct from their definition of identification. However they claim that identification can serve as a process to help build parasocial relationships. Hartmann and Goldhoorn (2011) built upon Horton and Wohl original conceptualization PSI; arguing that PSI is an innate reaction that brings out social behaviors such as mindreading, mutual attention, and mutual adjustment. On the other hand, there has been a school of thought that has evolved PSI as a friendship like response towards a persona which has now evolved into the concept of parasocial relationship. Unlike PSI, PSR is a long term effect in which a viewer has a social connection with a persona throughout multiple exposure and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Causes Of High School Dropouts Andrew Berry Mrs. Gallos English III 21 November 2017 Preventing High School Dropouts By the time you reach high school, everyone knows someone who has dropped out. It has become a common method of escape from whatever stresses school might be bringing upon a student. As time goes on, more and more students seem to be dropping out of high school or college, with one student dropping out approximately every 26 seconds. Most of them will not realize the long term effects until it s too late. Students have begun choosing the easy way out and struggling later in life, generally making thousands to hundreds of thousands less in their career. Though the dropout rate has fallen a few percent in the recent years according to ( High School Dropout Rates ), the issue is still prominent. Why do they do it and how can we prevent it? The first big reason for dropping out is the simple lack of interest or academic difficulty in school. They sit in class, doing anything but what they should be, waiting impatiently for the class to end. Or they are dreading going to the next class. Nearly 26 percent report boredom as a contributing cause ( Why Kids Drop Out ). Many drop out due to the thought of even more school caused by failing grades. The thought of even more time in a classroom proves to be too much and their motivation to quit. Others may have other interests that take over any interest in their academics. The second reason is problems outside of school. Be it family or housing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Garcinia Cambogia Garcinia cambogia extract is a weight loss pill that was advertised by Dr. Oz during a segment on his daytime talk show. Dr. Oz introduced the product using persuasive language to provoke viewer interest, claiming the pill is the magic ingredient to lose weight without diet or exercise. He explained that garcinia cambogia extract is found in the rind of tamarind fruit from Southeast Asia and that the fruit is known to have medicinal benefits. Dr. Oz stated that garcinia cambogia may have more promise than other weight loss products because it reduces body fat and suppresses appetite. The active ingredient found in garcinia cambogia, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), aids to block an enzyme which makes fat. HCA also increases the release of the hormone serotonin, which reduces the craving for food. Additionally, garcinia cambogia can decrease total cholesterol and triglycerides, with potential improvement in leptin and insulin resistance in the obese. The product was advertised during the segment to target women who are seeking an easy alternative to lose weight fast. This is apparent as the majority of the studio audience is composed of middle aged women who represent the intended population. By allowing the audience to ask questions that Dr. Oz answers on the spot, viewers are left with more confidence in the product. Dr. Oz specifically manipulates his language with the objective to entice women, referring to weight loss as a decrease in dress size. Dr. Oz conveys a sense of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore they are capable of being aware of sensations and emotions of feeling pain and suffering. In today s world, factory farming has become popular as they are cheaper ways to produce more output efficiently. The industry strives to maximize output and revenue while minimising cost at the expense of animals. The giant companies that run most of the factory farming have developed caging systems which allow for greater animals to be living in small crammed space for greater profit and output. These animals are deprived of exercise of that their body s energy contributes more towards producing flesh, milk or egg. Drugs are fed and animals are being genetically altered to be grown fat so they could keep them alive longer. We as humans, eat a lot of eggs. Now, Jose Saramago being a prominent believer in the ideas of socialism as a whole, it is no surprise that his book Blindness includes many scenes that portray, in favor, the fundamental concepts of socialist beliefs. This includes the variety of the people who were blinded and the cooperation and organization of the main party involved. But, it is interesting to point out that he also includes examples of the beliefs of conservatism but also scenes where he criticizes it. This can be shown in scenes like when the food starts being stolen in quarantine and in the rise in the leadership of the man with the gun. For over twenty four hours Fort McHenry was bombarded by British Navy, but the American troops fought, and so did their families. The Americans rallied around the singular flag that stood high in the fort, and a flag that was a target for the British armada. They planned to destroy the flag to disrupt moral, but the Americans refused to let it fall. They used that singular flag as motivation, and motivation that eventually won them the battle. The flag still holds the same purpose today. To remember those who have fought, or are currently fighting in our armies. It also serves as a source of pride, motivation, and patriotism towards our country. This theory predicts that there are two components to suicide. First off, perception of burdening others and feeling socially alienated combine to result in the desire to die. However, an individual will not act on this desire unless he/she has developed a capability to do so. Capability to commit suicide is developed through habituation from overexposure which perhaps desensitizes the individual to experiences that are painful. This may be vital in allowing the individual to overcome innate instincts for survival and prepare him/her to act on the desire to die. Aboriginal people in Canada have undergone tremendous acculturation and marginalization (failing to acquire and value Aboriginal values and identity, while also failing to identify with the cultural values of the larger society) which may be responsible in making them perceive themselves as a burden to others and feel socially alienated. Such feelings, based on the interpersonal psychological theory, might instil the desire to die. Habituation and as a result, desensitization to the fear and pain associated with a suicidal experience, could be occurring due to high rates of suicide in one s community. Thus, the interpersonal psychological theory provides some insight into aboriginal suicide. However, the picture is incomplete as this explanation could be applied to suicide amongst patients ... However, his discontent with his first marriage begins earlier than that. Although historians cannot pinpoint the exact date, it is noted that Henry began questioning their marriage as early as 1524 or 1525 when physicians informed him that Catherine was reaching menopause. Furthermore, the birth of his illegitimate son, Henry Fitzroy, to his mistress, Bessie Blount, in 1519 is proof that Henry was capable of producing a healthy, living son. He also argues that it is the individual who must ultimately decide this, but at the same time, the individual does not have the mental capacity to do so (Marcuse, H. 1968). This development of false needs results in one dimensional thought and behaviour where the ability for individuals to think critically is compromised. Modern people are able to buy instruments from many different markets and these instruments are mass produced on assembly lines or by specialists, therefore the availability of instruments is higher in modern day than in Ancient times, where everything was handmade and took longer. This is also due to the globalization of modern day economies, where an individual can have access to basically any kind of instrument they desire, whereas in ancient Greece where contact with other cultures was not as pronounced as it is today, there were not as many instruments available to their use, only ones of their own design or of nearby cultures. • 46. Difference Between Rsa And Mvp Classification Analysis And... 1.1 What is representational similarity analysis? Representational similarity analysis (RSA) is an analysis framework builds on a rich psychological and mathematical literature, in which multi channel measures of neural activity are quantitatively related to each other and to computational theory and behavior by comparing RDMs. RDM is the representational dissimilarity matrix, which contains a cell for each pair of experimental conditions. Each cell is a number reflecting the dissimilarity between the activity patterns associated with the two conditions. The core of the of RSA is to use RDM as a signature of the representations in brain regions and computational models (Kriegeskorte, Mur, Bandettini, 2008). 1.2 The differences between RSA and MVP classification analysis and the new information that can be obtained from representational similarity analysis that is not revealed by MVP classification or univariate analysis. RSA is a particular versatile version of MVPA. It goes beyond testing of information in regional response patterns and enables researchers to handle condition rich experiments without predefined stimulus categories, to test conceptual and computational models, and to relate representations between humans and monkeys, and even to related across different types of brain activity measurements. 1.2.1 Major differences: 1) MVP classification analysis focus on the representations of the brain associated with experimental

  • 48. Unusual Animal Friendships Have you ever thought about the relationships between animals? Two very different kinds of animals can get a very strong bond between each other. They will start to care for each other even if they are not the same species. Like a dog taking care of a littler of kittens because the kittens have no mother. They will even feed offspring that are not even there own. I do believe that a dog that just had puppies will take care of a litter of cats. Animals will care for one another. Like the lions in the passage Animal roles and relationship. The lions look out for the little cubs while the other ones go hunt and get food for them to eat. I know this because in passage one it says, In a pride of lions lionesses are the hunters while the males are the protectors. Also like Bea the giraffe and Wilma the ostrich. They both have a lot of land to walk around but they are always together. Bea cleans Wilma with her long tongue an Wilma likes to cuddle close to her side. I know this because in the second passage Unusual Animal Friendships it says , Bea likes to clean Wilma with her long tongue and Wilma likes to cuddle close to her friend. ... They feared he was going to die until he met a dog named Roscoe. Roscoe and Suryia became very best friends, and one day Roscoe got him to eat. I know this because in the text it says, He was moved to an endangered wildlife refuge in South Carolina where doctors feared he would not live long. The text also said, Thanks to Roscoe for his help Suryia always shares his snacks with his best friend. Another example is how a crab feeds the sea anemone. I know this because in the text it sates, Sea anemones also get free food by eating the leftovers from hermit crab ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
