Early civilization of North America
Early civilization of North America With the discovery of America, several emigrants started moving
to this newly discovered land. As a result of this, numerous colonies were formed in America. The
Spanish settlers were the first to immigrate to America. They formed colonies in the West Indies,
Mexico and South America. On the other hand, English emigrants arrived to New England, Virginia
and other parts of America, which later formed the United States. Immigration to the New World took
pace in the early 1600s and grew from a group of few hundred colonists to a flood of millions of
newcomers. These new settlers started building a new civilization in the northern region. Immigration
of English settlers started long after the settlement of Spaniards in South America and Mexico.
Majority of the English colonists were those who escaped their homeland to avoid political coercion,
to practice their religions with freedom and to explore new opportunities that were absent in their
homeland. It was the time when England was facing an economic depression and job opportunities
were rare even for skilled people. Immigration of English and other European settlers was primary due
to the political instability in their homeland. The instable regime of Charles I forced many English
people to move to the New World. In addition to this, the repressive policies of rulers in other parts of
Europe and the destruction because of several wars played a major role in encouraging Europeans to
move

The Goals And Objectives Of The Company
What are the goals/objectives of the company in this situation? Hathaway Jones is a high end clothing
retailer that despite grossing in $5 Billion dollars in sales in 2006, hardships still threatened the well
being of the company. Fred, who had an extensive background with luxury brands and immaculate
credentials, was employed to tackle these issues and revamp the Hathaway Jones image. His
aggressive nature made him hit the ground running implementing a cost saving outsourcing strategy
which improved profit margins, merging closer to industry s standards. Plans to redefine Hathaway s
market towards younger adults, offering trendier affordable clothes was the next task Fred wanted to
deploy in efforts of changing the brands image. Since China presented a 70% annual growth rate in
luxury goods, it became a highly attractive market for Hathaway s new image. To access the Chinese
market, hefty investments were made to open up a chain of new stores in Beijing, Guangzhou, and
Shanghai. With this project almost approaching its debut, Fred was put to the quest to recruit a
winning team to handle any and all challenges that may come by and ensure the success of this
lucrative market. What is it that the company wants to achieve? Before the company takes any action,
it should be clear on what it is trying to accomplish. Statement of Issue: What is the issue that needs to

Characteristics Of Dinosaur
Dinosaurs are a group of reptiles that first appeared during the Triassic period (around 225 million
years ago) and were extinct in the Cretaceous period (about 65 million years ago). Dinosaur are a
diverse species ranging in different shapes and sizes and were able to survive in a variety of
ecosystems (Australian Museum, 2016) (Natural History Museum, 2017) (Dinosaur Jungle, 2015).
The fundamental physical features of a dinosaur are:
Diapsid (animal with two holes in skull behind eye socket)
Vertebrates (animal with a spinal cord surrounded by cartilage or bone)
A hole in the skull between the eye socket and nostril
Ankle that bends in single plane
A secondary palate that allows dinosaurs to eat and breathe at the same time
A large hole in the hip socket
Limbs held directly under the body
Three or more sacral vertebrae
Part B: Dinosaurs Example
Australovenator
The Australovenator is the most completed skeleton of any Cretaceous carnivorous dinosaur ever
found in Australia with approximately 25% of the bones recovered and prepared. The skeleton
consists of two nearly complete forelimbs and hind limbs, along with isolated ribs, gastralia and both
dentaries. The fossils were discovered at the bottom of a Billabong near the town of Winton,
Queensland. The Australovenator was a 5 6m swift predator that stood about 1.6m high and unlike
most theropod dinosaurs, the Australovenator had massive arms and hands with two of its three hand
claws being razor sharp weapons (Age

An Exegesis Of Genesis 3 Essay
The following essay I will be conducting an exegesis of Genesis 3; 1 12 in its ancient and modern
context. I will be analysing themes that run throughout the text and the importance of these themes in
identifying the meaning of this passage. Genesis 3 revolves around the fall of creation, in this essay I
will analysing the fall and the roles the characters play in the fall and evaluate the fall of humanity and
the implications this has modern society.
Serpent is repeated throughout the Bible for example, Deuteronomy 32:33 ( Their wine is the venom
of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras. ) and Job 20; 14 ( yet his food will turn sour in his stomach; it
will become the venom of serpents within him. ) These are a few examples of this repetition , suggests
that the serpent is important within the Bible however he is always mentioned in reference to evil. The
serpent plays an important role in this passage , as he the instigator of the fall in which he tempts Eve
to eat from the forbidden tree. He challenges the credibility of God by convincing Eve to eat from the
tree, which presents God as being devious which contradicts the omnibenevolent God presented by
Christianity. John E. Toews agrees as he argues that at the conclusion of the dialogue the issue is can
God be trusted? Has God been completely truthful with humans? A pious question about God is really
a very cunning question because it forces the woman to render a judgment about God. The serpent
could be seen as a

B Du Bois s Theory Of Double Consciousness
Finding a norm to break was pretty hard, but once I did I realized the norm itself was also a little
strange. People ride the elevator because they wish to get to their destination in the building quicker
than they would walking up and down the stairs. At Berkeley City College there are only five floors;
riding the elevator is not an absolutely necessary thing. My school is a pretty diverse campus,
although I rarely see the diverse people in the same classes I choose for myself. I see people of all age
ranges on a daily basis, some friendlier than others. I decided to do this violation throughout the
school week(s) at BCC since I couldn t test this theory out at Laney College. I chose to test how would
people react to me riding the elevator incorrectly or if they would have a reaction at all; doing so I
would compare this act to W.E.B Du Bois s theory of double consciousness. I had a difficult time
figuring out what I was going to do for my norm violation, but I ended up choosing riding in an
elevator incorrectly. Most people face the direction that the elevator door opens up so instead I chose
to face multiple different directions, as long as it wasn t towards the door. I compared this to having a
double consciousness since I was well aware that others were about to perceive me in an odd light,
while all along I knew the truth of the matter. I decided to do this during my free time between classes
at Berkeley City College since there are always lots of people using the

Marketing Strategy for Establishing Presence in Emerging...
Section I
Establishing presence in Emerging Markets
Marketing strategy is an important aspect of any business s sales and long term success. As outlined
by Ataman et al. (2010), it is the entire marketing mix that has an impact on the performance of
mature brands in the long term. One of the factors in the marketing mix is the place. For mature
businesses, it is extremely important to explore new locations and opportunities for resources and
expansion. Oviatt and McDougall (1994) elaborate that while there are organizations that operate on
the International level since inception; there are others for which it is really important to explore new
ventures. The authors present a framework for this purpose in which they identify four elements that
are important for multinational enterprises. These characteristics include internalizing some
transactions, relying on alternative governance for accessing resources, establishing advantages
through foreign locations and gaining control over unique resources. Emerging markets are proving to
be the center for new ventures because of the opportunities, unique resources and facilities they have
to offer. Other than the physical resources and legal facilities, as outlined by Catorelli and Goldberg
(2009), there has also been immense globalization of banking because of which local as well as
foreign owned banks are increasing their exposure for cross border funding to increase opportunities
for capital, rather than just concentrating on

My Personality Test
Cambridge Dictionary defines personality as the special combination of qualities in a person that
makes that person different from others, as shown by the way the person behaves, feels, and thinks .
There are many tests out there that will help you piece together what personality type you have, one of
which I have taken recently. The personality test that I took on My Personality Test .com told me I am
an ISTJ (Introverted, Sensing, Thinking, and Judging) personality type. The main characteristics
associated with this personality type are that ISTJs are honest and direct, efficient and systematic,
dedicated and responsible, strong willed and decisive, organized and reliable, committed and
trustworthy, and they value tradition and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jude or small things like picking trash up off the ground. Due to these qualities, ISTJs are viewed as
reliable, trustworthy, honest, and likeable (My Personality Test). These are all the good qualities
associated with this personality type that are true for myself but there are some qualities that can be
considered weaknesses. Our weaknesses are that we always stick to our own beliefs/values and trust
our judgement above that of others (sometimes even if we are wrong) which can make us inflexible or
stubborn sometimes (My Personality Test). Sometimes, if I think I am right, I will defend my answer
or solution (even if I am actually wrong) to the point where I know I am wrong, but I just do not want
to admit it. We may be unaccepting or judgmental sometimes toward other people due to differing
values (My Personality Test). ITSJs try to find other people who share our interests and/or try to get
them to see things our way (My Personality Test). Because we like to deal mostly with reason and
logic, processing emotions may be difficult (expressing ours and understanding others) (My
Personality Test). ITSJs like routine and structure in our daily life which may make dealing with or
getting used to new/unusual situations challenging or troublesome (My Personality Test). Tradition is
important to us and changing it can be discomforting and is one reason why using a tried and true
method is preferable to

Half Life Lab Report
In this experiment we will explore the meaning of half life. We will accomplish this by getting a
handful of un popped popcorn and cooking them in a pan. We will count how long it takes for half of
the popcorn to pop. In this experiment un popped popcorn will resemble a radioactive nucleus whilst
popped nuclei will resemble non radioactive nuclei. When the popcorn is popped it means that the
nucleus is stable. In this experiment, we discovered that we cannot predict when half of the
radioactive nuclei when disappear the first time over although when the first half life occurs we are
able to calculate the half life in the future. Half life is the amount of time taken for half of the
radioactive nuclei to disappear. In this experiment we decided to put 16 pieces of popcorn in a pot and
then counted the seconds it took before they popped. The time it took for the number of un popped
popcorn to half from 16 to 8 was 19 seconds. It then went from 8 to 4 in 13 seconds, 4 to 2 in 12
seconds and lastly 2 to 1 in 10 seconds. This made us come to the conclusion that the average half life
of this experiment was 13.5 seconds. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

downwards. When they are put on the table, we remove the sweets without the logo to indicate that
half of them have disappeared. When we conducted this experiment we started off with 100 M M s.
When we did it the first time it dropped to 52 M M S (radioactive nuclei). When we did it again it

Potential Explanations Paper
Potential Explanations
US Israeli relations often appear to focus on America s ability to enforce its sphere of influence in
Israel by its diplomatic and monetary utility. Since 1976, Israel has been the most exponential annual
recipient of US aid and the largest recipient of cumulative US assistance since World War II. The US
had provided over 95% of economic development assistance and food aid to Israel, totaling to roughly
$68 million per year between the years of 1949 and 1965. From 1966 through 1970 aid increased to
about $102 million to include an estimated military loan increase of 47%. From 1971 to the present,
US aid to Israel has averaged over $2 billion per year; two thirds of which has been military assistance
(Sharp,2015). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Prospect theory may help explain these anomalies. This theory provides a framework for the
evaluation of alternative choices made by individuals, firms and organizations. The first case to be
examined is the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 which is exemplary of Israel s occasional
nonconformity to US requests. In summary, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) invaded Lebanon despite
President Reagan s execution of a cease fire. This act of non compliance beckons the question, why
did Israel accept the risk of having sanctions imposed on them by their primary financier? Or why
didn t the US influence over Israel manifest favorable actions for the US? There is potential for an
explanation by applying the Prospect theory model to the Invasion of Lebanon case study. Israel
initially complied with President Reagan s cease fire initiative until Israel constructed a perception
that benefits would accrue from engaging the perceived threat of the enemy. Israel believed that while
the cease fire was implemented the PLO were strengthening themselves while they, Israel, was
faltering (losses) under the cease fire restrictions. Israel evaluated two alternative choices, the first
choice was to continue compliance with the US cease fire initiative or alternatively, to disregard the

The Learning Of The Classroom
Introduction
When planning a lesson in the classroom it is extremely important to keep in mind all the needs of the
students in the classroom. Every student has their own level of learning and some have major needs
that may need some adaptations in the lesson plan. Currently, all my lessons follow along with the
fourth grade curriculum with sixteen students in the classroom. There are three students in the
classroom that have specific needs.
One female student has an IEP that calls for 120 minutes of services. These services include small
group settings in which the student received a high degree of focused attention on each content area.
Two male students are both considered English Language Learners. The first ELL student is
considered to be a level 3 WIDA at his previous school. He is currently being evaluated for a possible
IEP. He receives four 40 minute sessions of background building for all content areas per week. This
student also has seizure every so often, which may impact his learning. The second ELL student is
speaking at a level 6, writing at a level 2 and reading at a level 1 with an overall score of 2.8. He
recently joined the HMLS but immediately started receiving four 40 minute background building
sessions per week. At the request of his parents, he is also being evaluated for an IEP.
Besides these three students, there are other students who receive tutoring within the classroom. There
are five students who receive math tutoring on Mondays Wednesdays and

Comparing Mariana And The Lady Of Shalott
The poetry written during the Industrial Revolution reflects the mentality of 19th century British
citizens with anxious, questioning tones, and the desire for returning to simpler times with romantic
ideals. Both Mariana and The Lady of Shalott evoke questions about the place for women during the
Industrial Revolution because Lord Alfred Tennyson characterizes both female characters as
vulnerable in the absence of a man. The portrayal of the characters Mariana and The Lady of Shalott
as weak is evident in the settings of each poem because they reside in trapped and abandoned spaces,
are easily controlled by their surroundings, and the dark and lightless worlds they both live in without
a man. Exploring how the troubling settings mirror ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

within Victorian poetry, and in their absence women are forced to live in dejected shadows. Mariana is
completely devoid of any light within her life and constantly laments, [m]y life is dreary ( Mariana 9)

Morality in Cannery Row by John Steinbeck
In society, people value morality as a human quality. People learn their values from when they are
young from various sources. However, who is to say what is necessarily right and wrong? Values and
morality can have different meanings, especially if placed in the context of a distorted materialistic
society. In Cannery Row, John Steinbeck reminds people about this important theme and how it
applies on a bigger scale. The setting of the story is Cannery Row, located in Monterey, California.
Steinbeck s choice of setting is significant in that it fully captures the breadth of humanity. On the one
hand, it is an area that represents the thriving sardine industry. On the other, it is also an area where the
lower classes, including bums and whores could live. In actuality, the story is not really about the
sardine industry at all, but is rather a collection of short stories that are all unified about the same
theme, the quality and meaning of life. The main plot of this novel is centered on Doc, a marine
biologist. It begins when Mack and the boys, Lee Chong, and Dora throw a surprise party for him to
show their appreciation and great reverence towards him. By writing about the warm relationships
between Doc and the inhabitants of Cannery Row, Steinbeck uses these short stories as his way of
talking about life on a bigger scale. In essence, Cannery Row is John Steinbeck s personal philosophy
on human importance, his take on what humans should be like, and his

Racial Stereotypes And Racial Inequality
I. Introduction
To this day there are still many unresolved issues of racial stereotypes and racial inequality throughout
the United States. And it is undeniably seen that the world today embraces multi cultural and sexual
orientation, yet there is still an unsupportable intolerance towards ethnicities and difference. The
biggest issue in the world today is the struggle for African Americans to end racial stereotypes that
they have inherited from their past, and to bridge the gap between acceptance and social justice. One
of the most effective ways that blacks have found to bridge this gap, was to create a new way for
society to see the struggles on an entire race; this way was created through art. African American
artists from around the world are utilizing their skills to bring awareness to racial stereotypes and
social justice. When I became and artist, I was afraid that I would not be accepted in the art world
because of my race, but it was from the creation beauty and truth in African American art that I was
able to see that I could succeed. When I saw this art my immediate feeling was that I was that I was
proud of my race. I knew that I wanted to be an artist and I knew that I had a chance to do something
great and to make those around me proud. It was because of contemporary African American artists art
that I realized what beauty and truth could do to a person s perspective. Looking back on this, I m
reminded that the most important thing about beauty and truth is

Catholic Interpretation Of The Bible
Religion. Religion is something that everyone knows about, most people have, but no one really
knows why exactly we have it. Although there are a myriad of different religions practiced by people
all over the world with varying beliefs, the grand majority of widely practiced religions such as
Christianity and Judaism are premised in their interpretation of the Bible. The Bible is a collection of
texts written by human beings several hundred years ago, recounting a history of events from the
creation of the universe by God to the supposed second coming of Christ sometime in the future.
Different religions vary based on their interpretation of the Bible and the meaning they place behind
this interpretation. Catholicism is based on a specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this is the main counterargument for the thesis of the paper, there are a myriad of examples
of specific change in the religion over time depending on the societal attitudes that are ever evolving.
An example of this comes from the changes or so called improvements that have come out of the
Vatican. If it was just that the religion was adding new information or growing to include new
information, there would not be specific changes to the Catholic interpretation of the Bible, it would
be that there was no assumptions made or observed from this solidified and unchanging interpretation
of the Bible. However, this is not the case as observed in the book by Maines and McCallion
discussing the liturgical change in the Vatican II Church. In the book it discusses how the
interpretation of the Bible in the Catholic religion has evolved over time, being influenced by the
major thinkers of the time and the societal attitudes and norms of that specific time. For example,
Maines and McCallion describe that there were two dominant changes with respect to Catholicism
which occurred from roughly World War II to 1960 (9). These changes that occurred during this time
period reflected the views of society and not only changed based on the changes in Catholics
lifestyles, but changed the subsequent interpretation of the

Summary Of The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas
Ursula Le Guin s short story The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas is a plotless, philosophical
fiction. Written in 1973, Le Guin tells the dark narrative of a fictional town which lives in peace with
itself. The seemingly happy town houses a dark secret, one so dark that citizen s of the town leave to
escape it. Ursula Le Guin does this by using authorial intrusion, withholding information, and
encouraging her readers to think. Le Guin has written The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas in
such a way that its interpretation depends on the reader and not the text. It is the reader s perspective
in life and the world that shapes the image he perceives while reading this story. The citizens of
Omelas are referred to as they while everyone who does not live in Omelas is referred to as we to
show that they are separate from us. The author does this early in the story to show the reader that the
people in Omelas are not like the reader. They are very different. Le Guin continues with this strategy
when she plays with the minds of the readers by suggesting ideas into the heads of the readers then
shortly afterwards she retracts these ideas. A great example of this is when she suggests there is a King
who is on a stallion and surrounded by knights, but in the next line tells us that there is no King. This
procedure has the reader picturing an image then later having to dismiss this image time and time
again. This style is very clever because it keeps the reader interested and guessing

Nature And Nature In Antonio Vivaldi s La Primavera
My first work is La Primavera written by the Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi in 1723. La Primavera
is one of four violin concertos, each capturing moods and illustrating stories related to a specific time
of year. Each section within this movement illustrate the most beautiful scenes of the spring season,
including birds, babbling brooks, and a thunderstorm. (Soomo). My second work is an oil on canvas
painting, titled The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone by Thomas Moran. The Grand Canyon of the
Yellowstone was painted in 1872 and captures the unique geological formations and diverse and
extravagant colors of the Midwestern United States landscape. The common theme shared by both of
the chosen pieces of work is nature. Antonio Vivaldi embraces the spring season and captures the
moods and illustrates stories specific to that time of year. Moran captured the true beauty of a
Midwestern landscape of the United States. Although one work is musical piece and the other is a
landscape painting, both capture the beauty of nature and the surrounding elements.
2. Audience Impact
The theme of nature should impact any member of my audience. Although each artifact contains its
own unique message, both pieces of art possess an underlying message of connecting with nature. For
the audience, a deep connection with nature is offered through the artifacts as they are reminded of the
inherent beauty that exists in the natural world. I feel the chosen topic of the presentation would be

Unstructured Data
Abstract Resumes are shared online significantly due to the widespread presence of the job websites.
Normally, resumes do not have a structured format, which makes it difficult for the organizations to
parse and extract information automatically. In this research, a novel methodology is presented for
converting the relevant information from resume and the corresponding sentiments from Twitter to a
structured format. Initially, the relevant information is extracted from the resume files. The behavior
pattern from Twitter for each candidate is also extracted using sentiment analysis on their posts.
Finally, this is combined with the extracted information from the resume and is converted to JSON

Also, most organizations and companies receive thousands of resumes from job seekers online. It is
difficult to extract relevant information from a resume because of its unstructured and nonstandard
structure. Also, it comes in different file types such as PDF, DOC, etc. This makes the information
extraction even more challenging. With the dramatic growth of social media, a considerable amount of
data becomes available to be exploited by many companies, organizations, and researchers based on
their interests. The candidate s behavior pattern could be extracted from the social media where
candidates share their opinion on various topics of interest. In this research, the focus is to combine

We were in our hotel room and my mom was searching the web for a good place to eat. She found a
place called Pizanos . The restaurant was famous for their deep dish pizza and was recommended by
Frank Sinatra. My mom said It s two miles away. Are you up for the walk? . At that point I was willing
to do anything to get food in my stomach. I said Yes, let s go . The two mile walk was so worth it. The

Essay about 1776 Book Review
1776, Book Review It was a good year for a revolution, 1776. But it didn t start off quite as well as the
colonists would have liked. When George Washington agreed to take command of the American
forces in 1775, he probably didn t realize what he was truly getting himself into. Washington took
command of an army made up of old men and young boys that had either come from their farms or the
street. The army was short on weapons and gunpowder, lacked uniforms, and was racked by disease
and drunkenness. Washington understood that what lies ahead would be difficult, considering he
would be facing the most powerful country in world. But he probably didn t expect his worst problems
to come from his own army, which was an undisciplined and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The battle was won, despite insufficient arms and ammunition. It would be one of the few military
victories Washington would experience that year. The news got back to England, and King George III
was angered when he heard the outcome of Boston. He spoke before Parliament and ordered that the
rebels were to be stopped. The British, devastated by the defeat, returned later in the year, this time
with more reinforcements and the help of the Hessians. New York City was now the new battleground.
The battles and conflicts that lie ahead once again reminded Washington of what kind of army he had.
The Battle of New York would soon prove to be a disaster. It was Washington s first command on a
large scale battle. He and his general officers had not only failed, but they looked like fools from the
British point of view. After the battle, troops began to run away in fear. Even Washington s closest
friend, Joseph Reed, began plotting behind his back. Washington suffered another bitter defeat at Fort
Washington, N.Y. The colonists were intimidated, and surrendered Fort Washington. It was a severe
blow to the colonists, 2000 were taken prisoner, 59 killed, 146 cannons lost to the British and Hessians
in a matter of hours. It was a humiliating blow. During one particularly disastrous skirmish with the
British, Washington saw his own troops fleeing from the enemy, and they were refusing to obey
orders. Washington threw his hat on the ground in disgust. And

Innovation Is The Progress Of Change Within A Business
Innovation is the progress of change within a business that s ultimate goal is to lead a business into
success. Each business model in every market must understand the constantly changing culture that
actually causes the business to change. Busy Bees Babysitting is a company that is in a constantly
changing market but has a unique twist to the average process. Innovation can bring a competitive
advantage to the business and lead into more organizational success. Innovation requires a recognition
of a problem, a proposed solution, an implementation plan and a way to measure it. All these aspects
work together and can lead a business into growth. I currently work for a company called Busy Bees
Babysitting as an independent contractor. This is a business, much like Care, that allows a family in
need of a babysitter or nanny, to have access to hundreds of CPR certified workers. These job requests
are made through an app where the parent enters the information of how many kids, their ages, and the
zip code to a database that the babysitters have access to. Then the babysitters open the app and see
which jobs they are available to take. This business has been open for about a year and a half and has
grown a lot over the past two months. They now have 375 babysitters and over 1500 families in need
of sitters. With such a quick growth rate the company runs on word of mouth, but they are

Investigating The Changing Patterns Of Political And...
Introduction The Ezra Siyadhuba Archaeological Research Project proposes to investigate the
changing patterns of political and social organization in Southern Africa during the 19th century. The
project focuses on how social and economic practices were transformed by the way the political
system of the state worked on the people. The study will answer the questions asked about whether the
Ndebele people who migrated continued with their political and social status that they had before in
Kwazulu Natal. Data will be collected by archaeological survey and test excavations over a series of
three field seasons between July 2015 and September 2015.The data collected and survey conducted
will be used to test the social and economic changes from these two sites and compare whether they
are parallel. The artifacts collected will be put in the museum so that people who wants to learn about
these changes will have access to the artifacts. This project will answer all the questions posed by the
archeologists and will also help in teaching students interested in African cultures. Project Description.

Wheel of the Year festivals represents the active and passive states of nature, man and cultivation.
Each of the festival periods was ruled by a ruling deity, whether a God or Goddess, with each part

importance to our ancestors, for their very survival rested on fruitful harvests, moderate winters, and
adequate rainfall.
Our days start at dusk on the preceding day. Accordingly, November 1st is really midnight of October

grains of ideas that may not come to fruition for many months. Decorated eggs, baskets of blossoms

would assume that along with wanting Barbie s house, they would want to obtain her body as well,
because her body is what a normal woman should look like. These young girls are being shown this

Hostility Towards Transgender Students
One of the most complex and diverse populations of people are those categorized as transgender.
These people are very often the subject of intense scrutiny, discrimination, ostracism, verbal
harassment and even physical assault. These responses to a transgendered person often stems from a
lack of understanding, confusion, fear, and anxiety when interacting with these people. In order to
understand why people are so unsettled when in the presence of a transgender individual, it is essential
to fully understand the term transgender.
The American Psychological Association published a Question and Answer pamphlet (2014) to help
the public understand the Transgender population in America. The APA defines the term transgender
as an umbrella term for persons whose gender identity, gender expression, or behavior does not
conform to that typically associated with the sex which they assigned at birth (p. 1) They go on to
explain the differences between gender identity and gender expression. Gender identity is the person s
internal sense of being male, female, or something else (p. 1). Gender Expression refers to the way a
person communicates gender identity to others through their behavior, clothing, hairstyles, voice,
and/or body characteristics (p. 1). The term transsexual is defined as people whose gender identity is
different from their assigned sex (p. 1). Many of these transsexual individuals will choose to alter their
physical biology through hormone replacement

A Dictionary Of The English Language By Samuel Johnson...
A Dictionary of the English Language by Samuel Johnson was done because Italian and French
academies produced many dictionaries of their own tongues and the English century authors feared
that their language would soon disappear because of absence of authority. They believed that a
dictionary would do a big change since it will be a book that people will need to buy. They believed
that Johnson, still an unknown author, would do a great job in creating a good dictionary. Johnson
accepted and believed he would finish the dictionary in three years, but it took him nine in total; yet
the quantity and quality of work was excellent. Johnson made a dictionary that it known for its size
(which was forty thousand words), the illustrative quotations, and the outstanding definitions. He had
used quotations from the best English writers, and most of the definitions are clear of any eccentricity.
The Preface to Shakespeare is an essay by Samuel Johnson that praises Shakespeare. Johnson
primarily praises Shakespeare for his honest interpretation of manners and life. He likes how
Shakespeare interpreted his character and based them on real men and women; and how he connected
tragedy and comedy and still show a good representation on nature where there is good and evil,
happy and sad moments. His characters are not exaggerated like they are in other author s works and
have real common feelings that everyday people feel. He believes that Hamlet, Macbeth, and other

Analysis of Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop...
Analysis of Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for Death
In regard to Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop for Death, Critic Eunice Glenn says:
In the first two lines Death, personified as a carriage driver, stops for one who could not stop for him.
The word kindly is particularly meaningful, for it instantly characterizes Death. This comes with
surprise, too, since death is more often considered grim and terrible (Glenn). Critic Charles R.
Anderson says, Death, usually rude, sudden, and impersonal, has been transformed into a kindly and
leisurely gentleman (Anderson).
Both critics seem to agree on the significance of the word kindly in the first two lines of the poem.

Critic Patricia Engle, on the other hand, looks further and asks, What does the speaker or anyone stop
doing for Death? Answering her own question, Engle says: We stop living. In order to illustrate her
point, she goes on to say, in reference to the speaker of the poem, She realizes that she cannot
recognize Death s power over her. Once she reckons with that eternal or divine bent within her, Death
stops; that is, Death ceases to be what Death is an end (Engle 74). Given deeper analysis of the poem
as a whole, this interpretation appears to be the most accurate. Death is not the final stopping point for
our speaker. The carriage only paused at the grave (17). The Horses Heads / Were toward Eternity (23
24). The poem suggests that death was not meant to be an end human existence will go on for eternity.
This accounts for the third, often overlooked, passenger in the carriage Immortality (4). Mortals don t
stop for death death stops for them. Death gives way to immortality, and thus, stops being an end.
Even if she had wanted to, the speaker could not have stopped for Death. The grave is merely a brief
pause on the journey toward Eternity.
Dickinson had a definite purpose when she chose to personify death as a carriage driver. According to
the Handbook of Literary Terms, Personification

The main priority for retailers is to get customers to stay in the store longer, and this important KPI
needs to be measured as well. It s crucial that retailers work on staff and customer interaction. The
more employees interact with customers, the more money customers will spend in the store. It s
critical that retailers consider this fact before understaffing to reduce wage overheads. A common
mistake retailers make is cutting back on floor staff which decreases customer interaction and will hurt
customer sales. It s critical that retailers know who their target market shoppers are and how to appeal
to their needs and wants. The book details examples of how women feel when they shop. Women don
t like to be approached or touched in a store which is why several retail outlets use wide aisles. The
concept of marketing to women is significantly different than marketing to men. This is one example
of why knowing your target market is critical. The store layout is also very important and should
reflect the nature of the target market. The narrower an aisle is, the less time a woman will spend in
the aisle. The most noticeable part of the store is the store entrance. People tend to flock to the store
entrance the quickest and will not stop to read any advertisements, signs, or displays in the windows.
The best way to take advantage of customer traffic at the store entrance is to have

Persuasive Essay On White Tailed Deer
At the Wildlife Leadership Academy in high school, we discussed white tailed deer ecology and
conservation. While deer are overpopulated and regulated and focused hunting is beneficial for our
forest ecosystems, the issue is highly contested by many different groups with opposing views.
From a scientific standpoint, hunting is necessary to keep deer populations in check, and this can be
done most effectively by hunting female deer. Therefore, conservation minded groups support the
increased issuance of antlerless deer licenses and decrease in antlered deer licenses. This way, most
hunters must kill females, and the populations reduce quickly. This would be an easy and simple
solution to the problem of deer overpopulation, but the opposing sides don t have the same priorities
as the conservationists.
Hunters want to hunt as many deer with the biggest antlers possible, so some hunting groups support
the increased issuance of antlered deer licenses. There is an aspect of cultural dislike for killing does,
which are perceived by some as a less valuable kill. Hunting groups that are accustomed to the state of
deer overpopulation that has troubled this area for so long even ask that the government supply
stocked deer to areas where they used to see more deer.
There are also animal rights activists who have fundamental issues with the concept of consumptive
outdoor recreation. Groups like PETA oppose the issuance of hunting licenses at all, and attack the

A Brief Note On Achievement Motivation And Culture
2.1. ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION AND CULTURE
Culture, according to E. B. Tyloe is that complex whole which include knowledge, beliefs arts, moral,
low, custom and othercapabilities acquired by man as a member of a society quoted in (Nwachukwu
C. B. 2000, P. 20). In a similar vein, the concept of culture is a huge one, separating human beings
from their culture is impossible. Culture is deep rooted than obvious characteristic like gender, skin
colour, race, and physical disabilities (Jashigin 1989, P.20).
Wlodkoloki and Ginsberg, described culture as the deeply learned confluence of language values
beliefs and behavious that pervade every aspect of a person s life, and ... is continually undergoing
mirror changes (Wlodkoroski Ginsberg, 1995, P.7). Because culture encompasses such a huge part of
people, it plays a large and important role in the motivation of those same individuals. That culture
and Achievement Motivation are related seems obvious We know that culture, is the deeply learned
mix of language, beliefs, values and behaviour that provides every aspect of our lives, significantly
influences our motivation. In fact social scientists today regard the cognitive processes as inherently
cultural. The language we use to think, the way we travel through our thoughts, and how we
communicate cannot be separated from cultural practices and cultural context. If we keep culture in
mind, a useful functional definition of Achievement Motivation is to understand it as a natural

  • 2. Early civilization of North America Early civilization of North America With the discovery of America, several emigrants started moving to this newly discovered land. As a result of this, numerous colonies were formed in America. The Spanish settlers were the first to immigrate to America. They formed colonies in the West Indies, Mexico and South America. On the other hand, English emigrants arrived to New England, Virginia and other parts of America, which later formed the United States. Immigration to the New World took pace in the early 1600s and grew from a group of few hundred colonists to a flood of millions of newcomers. These new settlers started building a new civilization in the northern region. Immigration of English settlers started long after the settlement of Spaniards in South America and Mexico. Majority of the English colonists were those who escaped their homeland to avoid political coercion, to practice their religions with freedom and to explore new opportunities that were absent in their homeland. It was the time when England was facing an economic depression and job opportunities were rare even for skilled people. Immigration of English and other European settlers was primary due to the political instability in their homeland. The instable regime of Charles I forced many English people to move to the New World. In addition to this, the repressive policies of rulers in other parts of Europe and the destruction because of several wars played a major role in encouraging Europeans to move ... • 5. An Exegesis Of Genesis 3 Essay The following essay I will be conducting an exegesis of Genesis 3; 1 12 in its ancient and modern context. I will be analysing themes that run throughout the text and the importance of these themes in identifying the meaning of this passage. Genesis 3 revolves around the fall of creation, in this essay I will analysing the fall and the roles the characters play in the fall and evaluate the fall of humanity and the implications this has modern society. Serpent is repeated throughout the Bible for example, Deuteronomy 32:33 ( Their wine is the venom of serpents, the deadly poison of cobras. ) and Job 20; 14 ( yet his food will turn sour in his stomach; it will become the venom of serpents within him. ) These are a few examples of this repetition , suggests that the serpent is important within the Bible however he is always mentioned in reference to evil. The serpent plays an important role in this passage , as he the instigator of the fall in which he tempts Eve to eat from the forbidden tree. He challenges the credibility of God by convincing Eve to eat from the tree, which presents God as being devious which contradicts the omnibenevolent God presented by Christianity. John E. Toews agrees as he argues that at the conclusion of the dialogue the issue is can God be trusted? Has God been completely truthful with humans? A pious question about God is really a very cunning question because it forces the woman to render a judgment about God. The serpent could be seen as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. B Du Bois s Theory Of Double Consciousness Finding a norm to break was pretty hard, but once I did I realized the norm itself was also a little strange. People ride the elevator because they wish to get to their destination in the building quicker than they would walking up and down the stairs. At Berkeley City College there are only five floors; riding the elevator is not an absolutely necessary thing. My school is a pretty diverse campus, although I rarely see the diverse people in the same classes I choose for myself. I see people of all age ranges on a daily basis, some friendlier than others. I decided to do this violation throughout the school week(s) at BCC since I couldn t test this theory out at Laney College. I chose to test how would people react to me riding the elevator incorrectly or if they would have a reaction at all; doing so I would compare this act to W.E.B Du Bois s theory of double consciousness. I had a difficult time figuring out what I was going to do for my norm violation, but I ended up choosing riding in an elevator incorrectly. Most people face the direction that the elevator door opens up so instead I chose to face multiple different directions, as long as it wasn t towards the door. I compared this to having a double consciousness since I was well aware that others were about to perceive me in an odd light, while all along I knew the truth of the matter. • 7. Marketing Strategy for Establishing Presence in Emerging... Section I Establishing presence in Emerging Markets Marketing strategy is an important aspect of any business s sales and long term success. As outlined by Ataman et al. (2010), it is the entire marketing mix that has an impact on the performance of mature brands in the long term. One of the factors in the marketing mix is the place. For mature businesses, it is extremely important to explore new locations and opportunities for resources and expansion. Oviatt and McDougall (1994) elaborate that while there are organizations that operate on the International level since inception; there are others for which it is really important to explore new ventures. The authors present a framework for this purpose in which they identify four elements that are important for multinational enterprises. These characteristics include internalizing some transactions, relying on alternative governance for accessing resources, establishing advantages through foreign locations and gaining control over unique resources. Emerging markets are proving to be the center for new ventures because of the opportunities, unique resources and facilities they have to offer. Other than the physical resources and legal facilities, as outlined by Catorelli and Goldberg (2009), there has also been immense globalization of banking because of which local as well as foreign owned banks are increasing their exposure for cross border funding to increase opportunities for capital, rather than just concentrating on ... Our weaknesses are that we always stick to our own beliefs/values and trust our judgement above that of others (sometimes even if we are wrong) which can make us inflexible or stubborn sometimes (My Personality Test). Sometimes, if I think I am right, I will defend my answer or solution (even if I am actually wrong) to the point where I know I am wrong, but I just do not want to admit it. • 9. Half Life Lab Report In this experiment we will explore the meaning of half life. We will accomplish this by getting a handful of un popped popcorn and cooking them in a pan. We will count how long it takes for half of the popcorn to pop. In this experiment un popped popcorn will resemble a radioactive nucleus whilst popped nuclei will resemble non radioactive nuclei. When the popcorn is popped it means that the nucleus is stable. In this experiment, we discovered that we cannot predict when half of the radioactive nuclei when disappear the first time over although when the first half life occurs we are able to calculate the half life in the future. Half life is the amount of time taken for half of the radioactive nuclei to disappear. In this experiment we decided to put 16 pieces of popcorn in a pot and then counted the seconds it took before they popped. The time it took for the number of un popped popcorn to half from 16 to 8 was 19 seconds. It then went from 8 to 4 in 13 seconds, 4 to 2 in 12 seconds and lastly 2 to 1 in 10 seconds. Potential Explanations Paper Potential Explanations US Israeli relations often appear to focus on America s ability to enforce its sphere of influence in Israel by its diplomatic and monetary utility. Since 1976, Israel has been the most exponential annual recipient of US aid and the largest recipient of cumulative US assistance since World War II. The US had provided over 95% of economic development assistance and food aid to Israel, totaling to roughly $68 million per year between the years of 1949 and 1965. From 1966 through 1970 aid increased to about $102 million to include an estimated military loan increase of 47%. The Prospect theory may help explain these anomalies. This theory provides a framework for the evaluation of alternative choices made by individuals, firms and organizations. The first case to be examined is the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 which is exemplary of Israel s occasional nonconformity to US requests. In summary, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) invaded Lebanon despite President Reagan s execution of a cease fire. This act of non compliance beckons the question, why did Israel accept the risk of having sanctions imposed on them by their primary financier? Or why didn t the US influence over Israel manifest favorable actions for the US? There is potential for an explanation by applying the Prospect theory model to the Invasion of Lebanon case study. Israel initially complied with President Reagan s cease fire initiative until Israel constructed a perception that benefits would accrue from engaging the perceived threat of the enemy. Israel believed that while the cease fire was implemented the PLO were strengthening themselves while they, Israel, was faltering (losses) under the cease fire restrictions. Both Mariana and The Lady of Shalott evoke questions about the place for women during the Industrial Revolution because Lord Alfred Tennyson characterizes both female characters as vulnerable in the absence of a man. However, who is to say what is necessarily right and wrong? Values and morality can have different meanings, especially if placed in the context of a distorted materialistic society. In Cannery Row, John Steinbeck reminds people about this important theme and how it applies on a bigger scale. The setting of the story is Cannery Row, located in Monterey, California. Steinbeck s choice of setting is significant in that it fully captures the breadth of humanity. On the one hand, it is an area that represents the thriving sardine industry. On the other, it is also an area where the lower classes, including bums and whores could live. In actuality, the story is not really about the sardine industry at all, but is rather a collection of short stories that are all unified about the same theme, the quality and meaning of life. The main plot of this novel is centered on Doc, a marine biologist. It begins when Mack and the boys, Lee Chong, and Dora throw a surprise party for him to show their appreciation and great reverence towards him. By writing about the warm relationships between Doc and the inhabitants of Cannery Row, Steinbeck uses these short stories as his way of talking about life on a bigger scale. In essence, Cannery Row is John Steinbeck s personal philosophy on human importance, his take on what humans should be like, and his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And it is undeniably seen that the world today embraces multi cultural and sexual orientation, yet there is still an unsupportable intolerance towards ethnicities and difference. The biggest issue in the world today is the struggle for African Americans to end racial stereotypes that they have inherited from their past, and to bridge the gap between acceptance and social justice. One of the most effective ways that blacks have found to bridge this gap, was to create a new way for society to see the struggles on an entire race; this way was created through art. African American artists from around the world are utilizing their skills to bring awareness to racial stereotypes and social justice. When I became and artist, I was afraid that I would not be accepted in the art world because of my race, but it was from the creation beauty and truth in African American art that I was able to see that I could succeed. • 19. Summary Of The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas Ursula Le Guin s short story The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas is a plotless, philosophical fiction. Written in 1973, Le Guin tells the dark narrative of a fictional town which lives in peace with itself. The seemingly happy town houses a dark secret, one so dark that citizen s of the town leave to escape it. Ursula Le Guin does this by using authorial intrusion, withholding information, and encouraging her readers to think. Le Guin has written The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas in such a way that its interpretation depends on the reader and not the text. It is the reader s perspective in life and the world that shapes the image he perceives while reading this story. The citizens of Omelas are referred to as they while everyone who does not live in Omelas is referred to as we to show that they are separate from us. The author does this early in the story to show the reader that the people in Omelas are not like the reader. They are very different. Le Guin continues with this strategy when she plays with the minds of the readers by suggesting ideas into the heads of the readers then shortly afterwards she retracts these ideas. A great example of this is when she suggests there is a King who is on a stallion and surrounded by knights, but in the next line tells us that there is no King. This procedure has the reader picturing an image then later having to dismiss this image time and time again. This style is very clever because it keeps the reader interested and guessing ... Each business model in every market must understand the constantly changing culture that actually causes the business to change. Busy Bees Babysitting is a company that is in a constantly changing market but has a unique twist to the average process. Innovation can bring a competitive advantage to the business and lead into more organizational success. Innovation requires a recognition of a problem, a proposed solution, an implementation plan and a way to measure it. All these aspects work together and can lead a business into growth. I currently work for a company called Busy Bees Babysitting as an independent contractor. This is a business, much like Care, that allows a family in need of a babysitter or nanny, to have access to hundreds of CPR certified workers. These job requests are made through an app where the parent enters the information of how many kids, their ages, and the zip code to a database that the babysitters have access to. Then the babysitters open the app and see which jobs they are available to take. This business has been open for about a year and a half and has grown a lot over the past two months. They now have 375 babysitters and over 1500 families in need of sitters. With such a quick growth rate the company runs on word of mouth, but they are overwhelmed with the amount of work that comes with success. When a babysitter has a flat tire, ... • 27. Investigating The Changing Patterns Of Political And... Introduction The Ezra Siyadhuba Archaeological Research Project proposes to investigate the changing patterns of political and social organization in Southern Africa during the 19th century. Data will be collected by archaeological survey and test excavations over a series of three field seasons between July 2015 and September 2015.The data collected and survey conducted will be used to test the social and economic changes from these two sites and compare whether they are parallel. The artifacts collected will be put in the museum so that people who wants to learn about these changes will have access to the artifacts. Indeed, combine the thin image with the consumerist visuals of fancy cars, enormous mansions, and you get a harmful message being pushed onto young children. Girls would assume that along with wanting Barbie s house, they would want to obtain her body as well, because her body is what a normal woman should look like. These young girls are being shown this image as the ideal, more desired body of a grown woman, and it would make sense that they would want to grow up to look just her. While thinner may seem healthier, low self esteem, unhealthy eating habits, and other unhealthy consequences can result from going to the extreme to achieve that thin body image. Now that it has been proven that the thin ideal is being pushed on children, children as young as 5, one should know the possible consequences of its exposure. When children are constantly being shown one certain ideal, it will soon become internalized, which leads to behaviors that often go unnoticed by parents. • 33. Hostility Towards Transgender Students One of the most complex and diverse populations of people are those categorized as transgender. These people are very often the subject of intense scrutiny, discrimination, ostracism, verbal harassment and even physical assault. These responses to a transgendered person often stems from a lack of understanding, confusion, fear, and anxiety when interacting with these people. In order to understand why people are so unsettled when in the presence of a transgender individual, it is essential to fully understand the term transgender. The American Psychological Association published a Question and Answer pamphlet (2014) to help the public understand the Transgender population in America. The APA defines the term transgender as an umbrella term for persons whose gender identity, gender expression, or behavior does not conform to that typically associated with the sex which they assigned at birth (p. 1) They go on to explain the differences between gender identity and gender expression. Gender identity is the person s internal sense of being male, female, or something else (p. 1). Gender Expression refers to the way a person communicates gender identity to others through their behavior, clothing, hairstyles, voice, and/or body characteristics (p. 1). A Dictionary of the English Language by Samuel Johnson was done because Italian and French academies produced many dictionaries of their own tongues and the English century authors feared that their language would soon disappear because of absence of authority. They believed that a dictionary would do a big change since it will be a book that people will need to buy. They believed that Johnson, still an unknown author, would do a great job in creating a good dictionary. Johnson accepted and believed he would finish the dictionary in three years, but it took him nine in total; yet the quantity and quality of work was excellent. Johnson made a dictionary that it known for its size (which was forty thousand words), the illustrative quotations, and the outstanding definitions. He had used quotations from the best English writers, and most of the definitions are clear of any eccentricity. The Preface to Shakespeare is an essay by Samuel Johnson that praises Shakespeare. Johnson primarily praises Shakespeare for his honest interpretation of manners and life. He likes how Shakespeare interpreted his character and based them on real men and women; and how he connected tragedy and comedy and still show a good representation on nature where there is good and evil, happy and sad moments. His characters are not exaggerated like they are in other author s works and have real common feelings that everyday people feel. Analysis of Emily Dickinson s Because I Could Not Stop for Death In regard to Emily Dickinson s poem, Because I Could Not Stop for Death, Critic Eunice Glenn says: In the first two lines Death, personified as a carriage driver, stops for one who could not stop for him. The word kindly is particularly meaningful, for it instantly characterizes Death. This comes with surprise, too, since death is more often considered grim and terrible (Glenn). Critic Charles R. Anderson says, Death, usually rude, sudden, and impersonal, has been transformed into a kindly and leisurely gentleman (Anderson). Both critics seem to agree on the significance of the word kindly in the first two lines of the poem. Because I could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Critic Patricia Engle, on the other hand, looks further and asks, What does the speaker or anyone stop doing for Death? Answering her own question, Engle says: We stop living. In order to illustrate her point, she goes on to say, in reference to the speaker of the poem, She realizes that she cannot recognize Death s power over her. Once she reckons with that eternal or divine bent within her, Death stops; that is, Death ceases to be what Death is an end (Engle 74). Given deeper analysis of the poem as a whole, this interpretation appears to be the most accurate. Death is not the final stopping point for our speaker. The carriage only paused at the grave (17). The Horses Heads / Were toward Eternity (23 24). The poem suggests that death was not meant to be an end human existence will go on for eternity. This accounts for the third, often overlooked, passenger in the carriage Immortality (4). Mortals don t stop for death death stops for them. Death gives way to immortality, and thus, stops being an end. Even if she had wanted to, the speaker could not have stopped for Death. The grave is merely a brief pause on the journey toward Eternity. Dickinson had a definite purpose when she chose to personify death as a carriage driver. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main priority for retailers is to get customers to stay in the store longer, and this important KPI needs to be measured as well. It s crucial that retailers work on staff and customer interaction. The more employees interact with customers, the more money customers will spend in the store. It s critical that retailers consider this fact before understaffing to reduce wage overheads. A common mistake retailers make is cutting back on floor staff which decreases customer interaction and will hurt customer sales. It s critical that retailers know who their target market shoppers are and how to appeal to their needs and wants. The book details examples of how women feel when they shop. Women don t like to be approached or touched in a store which is why several retail outlets use wide aisles. The concept of marketing to women is significantly different than marketing to men. This is one example of why knowing your target market is critical. The store layout is also very important and should reflect the nature of the target market. The narrower an aisle is, the less time a woman will spend in the aisle. The most noticeable part of the store is the store entrance. • 41. Persuasive Essay On White Tailed Deer At the Wildlife Leadership Academy in high school, we discussed white tailed deer ecology and conservation. While deer are overpopulated and regulated and focused hunting is beneficial for our forest ecosystems, the issue is highly contested by many different groups with opposing views. From a scientific standpoint, hunting is necessary to keep deer populations in check, and this can be done most effectively by hunting female deer. Therefore, conservation minded groups support the increased issuance of antlerless deer licenses and decrease in antlered deer licenses. This way, most hunters must kill females, and the populations reduce quickly. This would be an easy and simple solution to the problem of deer overpopulation, but the opposing sides don t have the same priorities as the conservationists. Hunters want to hunt as many deer with the biggest antlers possible, so some hunting groups support the increased issuance of antlered deer licenses. There is an aspect of cultural dislike for killing does, which are perceived by some as a less valuable kill. Hunting groups that are accustomed to the state of deer overpopulation that has troubled this area for so long even ask that the government supply stocked deer to areas where they used to see more deer. • 44. The Western Civilization The study also revealed a corollary finding. Chapter 1 divulged that the Western Civilization is displaying a bias for oppositional responses. Since Antiquity, the West seems to see strategy as competitive in nature and often consider that the military is an inescapable means to resolve international issues. This bias contributes to explaining the surprising proposition that neither the European Union nor NATO seems willing to acknowledge that it develops a grand strategy. One can advance that the EU and NATO do so because they project their biases onto other actors and, therefore, fear that opponents as well as partners might interpret such acknowledgment as a move towards power politics. This bias deserves further scrutiny and substantiation and presents a potential lead to elaborate on this study. It might also offer an opportunity for rejuvenating the field of strategy. Indeed, this bias is the occasion for strategists to broaden their analytical spectrum as well as the variety of tools at their disposal. In particular, they have to acknowledge that the use of force or the threat of it might not be the only ways to coerce a third party, be it with a design of deterring or compelling it. For instance, in an international regime favoring cooperative relations, the threat of diminishing economic cooperation or of diplomatic sanctions, which can range from minor actions to complete isolation, might procure similar effects.
