- The student enjoyed the music video project the most as it allowed them to improve their filming and editing skills through a fun experience. They found the animation project challenging but interesting to learn a new skill.
- Managing time effectively and planning projects thoroughly were areas the student developed, as poor planning previously caused disorganized work.
- Filming and editing are the student's strongest technical skills. Their best project was the music video which they had the most fun producing and received the highest grade for.
- The audio project was enjoyed the least due to personal challenges and choosing an unsuitable format of narration over voiceover work.
- Going forward, the student aims to focus on filming and editing roles, and is considering university

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

3. Which specific production tasks have you
enjoyed most this year?
• The project I enjoyed most this year was making the music video. And this is
because I had a really good time filming and editing; my filming went really
smoothly and although I had some minor problems with editing, it was overall
a very good experience not only because I had a really good time doing it
but also because it really helped me practice my editing skills and work on
gaining filming skills
• My second favourite project we did this year was the Adventure part 2. I did
not have any experience at all with drawing or animation, so it was really
difficult for me to complete that project; but even though I had problems
along the way, it was a really interesting project to work on, and I also
really liked the fact that we had to make our own music for it, because I
think it really gave it a nice personal touch.
4. What challenges have you faced this
year in your practical work?
• The most challenging work I’ve has this year was definitely the audio
project. Not only because I did not have a clear idea of what I wanted to do
and did not organize my time well but because I was having personal problems
as well. The editing wasn’t too difficult, but I chose to do a narration
which was clearly a bad choice given that my English pronunciation it is not
good enough to make a narration despite the fact that I have experience with
it as a voice over artist. Unfortunately I believe my work is not even
compressible; I had a story in my mind but it ended up messy and very below
the standard I intended in the beginning of my project.
5. Which process do you think you have
made the most development in?
• I definitely think that the processes I most developed in were research and
planning; before starting to take my time in those steps I did not really
believe they were as important as the actual production, but after working
on the details that I would use on my project researching about them and
planning those ahead of time, I understood that without those steps my work
would be messy as I would have no order to work on each individual part of
my project and it would all end up mixed and messy and with a poor aesthetic
and technical quality.
6. Which technical skill do you think is you
strongest?
• I believe my strongest technical skills are filming and editing; those are
the skills that are the easiest for me at the moment, despite the fact that
we did not only do editing and filming projects, those were the ones that I
struggled less and believe got the highest grade. I have a lot of fun
filming and like to experiment with different lightings and angles; with
editing I haven’t experimented as much, however I did watch several
tutorials and have tried out the things I knew I could do.
7. What do you think has been your best
project and why?
• I think my best project so far has been the music video; not only I was at
my best stage personally, but also was the one I had the most fun and got
the highest grade. That project really allowed me to experiment with
filming, something that I’ve always wanted to do, and practice my editing
skills, taking it to another level. Before I only had experience editing
audio, so I did not think I would succeed at film editing, but surprisingly
it wasn’t that different from audio editing. At a non technical level, I had
a lot of fun going to town and filming with my friends, we all had a good
time; it was overall just a very good experience.
8. Which project did you enjoy least and
why?
• The project I enjoyed the least this year was the audio project; the
proposal was something very different than I expected but also I made bad
choices of my own that made that project something I don’t like to remember.
I thought that because I am a voice over artist and have experience with
audio editing, the audio project was going to be the easiest for me, however
I found out that commercial voice over and narration are very different;
while with commercial voice over you use more of a “fake” trained voice,
with narration its used a natural voice, with more interpretation of the
story and that was what I was not able to do.
9. How have you managed your time
effectively this year?
• I admit that I have never been able to manage my time well, even before
college; but I have never struggled to managed my time like I did this year,
even though I always end up handing all my work in a good timing, I always
end up with anxiety trying to solve everything I didn’t to at once, and that
causes me to be too tired most of time to do any real work. For a lot of
reasons beyond my control, I simply do not manage my time well, I do
everything I can to finish my things on time but I would really like to be
able to schedule well everything I’m going to do and finish them on time
without struggling.
11. What roles/specialism do you see
yourself working in on future projects?
• As mentioned in the previous slides, I believe that my strongest skill is filming
and editing, and for that reason, not only on my FMP but on my future projects I
would like to focus my work in filming and editing. Not only those, but if
possible I would also like to work with photography, as it always has been a
great interest of mine to be able to photograph and photoshop well. For my future
projects I envision doing a mix of the music video project and the Adventure part
1 project because I believe a combination of those two have great potential and
great room for ideas. Not only that but it will allow me to practice the skills I
like the most.
12. What do you see yourself doing at the
end of the course next year?
• Honestly I do not know yet, I don’t plan on going to university straight
away because I need time to figure out which career path I’m going to follow
or at least a direction so that I can take slow steps into my professional
life. Aside from that, I am considering following my mother’s steps and
being a translator/voice over artist, not only because she already has a
company of her own that I am already used to and know on a good level how it
works, but it is something I enjoy doing since I was little. The exact
details I haven’t planned out yet, however I was considering to start
working with singing jingles, because it has always been a passion of mine
to sing and jingles can be really fun, aside from paying really well.
13. What research do you need to do in order to
explore your future progression options?
• I am not too sure, but I would say that a good place to start would be
researching about courses I feel are most compatible with me and what I
would like to do in the future. From there, I think the second thing to do
is research about universities, which ones I could get in based on my grade
but also ones that match my personality and what I like in a campus the
most; the second thing to look into when researching about universities is
whether I would like to go to a university in England or in another country.
As an EU citizen I have a lot of options of places I could study, and also
the fact that I speak more than one language opens more my possibilities
when choosing where do I want to go.
Editor's Notes
Consider 2-3 specific practical parts of your work this year [e.g. filming or editing, etc] and discuss why these have been your favoured parts of the course so far
Think about the work that has been most challenging this year [try and be specific when talking about tasks] and how you responded to it?
A process would be research or planning or time management, it could be a combination. Talk about what it is, how you feel you’ve developed and where this was most evident in the year
This is a technical skill like filming, editing, photo manipulation, designing adverts or using Photoshop – think of an example that shows your strength
This is looking at how you see yourself specialising as we move into the FMP and into Year 2
