2. GUIDANC
E
This template PowerPoint presentation
includes all the relevant elements you
should cover for a practical project. It
is not exhaustive, but provides some
guidance on stages, types of planning
and documents you should be
assembling. This is not a one size fits
all document, you will need to amend,
rejig and add/subtract sections
depending on what you are making.
Add more pages to each section
where necessary [you should be doing
this!]
Add visuals as you see necessary.
This document will be added to as you
progress through the pre-production
phase.
Delete this slide when complete
4. RESEARCH & IDEA
GENERATION
Use section to track your process of of generating ideas.
List and discuss the styles, techniques and conventions
that you have identified in your research. Explore how
you could approach the project using different methods
You can add any extra info you think is relevant, images,
mind maps, etc
For quick mind maps you could use bubbl.us
Make sure you assess the viability of ideas as well as the
potential for them creatively.
5. RESEARCH
Use this to summarise production research and existing
products from your previous investigations. Link this into
you idea generation and development.
6. RESEARCH

NVk
As we can see here Newcastle are in a
desperate situation, so the fans point of view
and what their expectations will be interesting.
Here they talk about the
chances of NUFC staying up
are very slim. Simon Jordan
said it would be the "GREATEST
ESCAPE WE'VE EVER SEEN!“
I'm researching the future of Newcastle
united and there are a lot of pundits
saying that they are likely to go down.
7. RESEARCH
I was doing research on successful
and unsuccessful takeover and one
that struck me to have a lot of
similarities is the case of Malaga.
Malaga is a team who got took over
in 2010 by Al-Thani, he quickly got
to work signing players like Ruud
van Nistelrooy, Santi Cazorla, Isco,
and Julio Baptista. He is from wealth
abroad in rich families who are
basically royalty in the middle east;
he has also had his fair share of
backlash about his treatment of
humans and the deaths his name
ties to. This is all very familiar to
new Newcastle Owner Yasir AL-
Rumayyan. Malaga have completely
had a shambles with their owner and
after a good start and signing good
players and reaching the quarter
finals of the champions league they
are sitting in the second division of
8. RESEARCH
Newcastle Fans' Unbelievable Reaction To The Saudi Takeover
YouTube
This Is the first reactions of the Newcastle fans, this helps
me understand how they are feeling about the new owners.
From this they were buzzing and it seemed like a dark
cloud has been lifted over NUFC; a lot of them are very
optimistic possibly disillusioned that they will have instant
success.
10. CONVENTIONS OF YOUR
CHOSEN FORMAT/GENRE
YOU ARE WORKING TO
Shaky camera
Interviews
Archive footage or photos
Voiceover narration
Real People
11. MIND MAP OF IDEAS
[SUMMARY OF IDEAS]
Ill get probably one/two
interviews of Newcastle
fans
Footage of Newcastle game
narration
12. SUMMARY
So Basically, what I'm doing is the future of NUFC after
their new takeover. I will go over what the fans think will
be there future and perhaps give my opinion. I'm hoping
my interviewees will be quite talkative. I will also mention
previous takeovers and see what the chances of
Newcastle doing well is.
13. FINAL IDEA – RATIONALE
I'm doing this idea because I have a lot of connections to
Newcastle with friends, I did a lot of research on football
in my group project, I like football, and I am going to a
Newcastle game soon so I can get good footage. I'm
doing a documentary format because I did it for my last
project and really enjoyed it and want to master that
format for my FMP. I do really like doing documentary's as
well, as I found making my own things as me as acting
was cringe. I like the more real side of doing a
documentary, and I liked doing interviews and doing
more about my actual self and putting my personality in
it. I think I have skills in editing, and I always have quite a
good concept I want to do. I'm looking forward to see
how I can make it so short.
14. FINAL IDEA – CREATIVE
CONCEPT
I want to make an accurate fully
interesting documentary about
Newcastle's new takeover and
what the fans hopes are. I want it
to be factual. I like this picture as
I want to get videos of the fans
chanting. I will cut up the
chanting with interviews and also
a voiceover.
17. TITLE OF
PRODUCTION/PRODUCTION
OUTLINE
I will be making a short documentary 2-3 minutes; I will
be doing future as my theme; more specifically the future
of Newcastle United, I will discuss their new owners their
transfers and I will refer to other takeovers which have
been successful and unsuccessful, and using all that
information I will make an analysis on the future. I will do
an interview of actual Newcastle fans to see what they
think will happen to them. I will get footage of the
Newcastle fans at games to get more of an
understanding of how their feeling.
18. LOCATIONS
Newcastle game plus tickets is about 43 quid. Footage at
the game could be a bit bad considering possible
weather and me filming on phone but yeah. I will also do
an interview hopefully at my friends house but not sure
yet, if not mine.
19. EQUIPMENT
Ill need camera, lights, audio recorder, iPhone stick. I
need an iPhone stick today as of the 7th of January. If I
cant I will use camera.
20. FACILITIES
Where will you edit your video? Do you need any other
specialist facilities…?
I will edit my video on my laptop as I have been thinking
since my last project if I do it on my laptop I can edit
anywhere, so its more optimal for getting my work done,
and sometimes I get urges to edit my project when I'm at
home.
22. PERSONNEL
Crew I will be a one-man crew on the production side,
obviously I will ask for feedback. I will also be
interviewing two people at most so that is everyone.
24. PRE-PRODUCTION: VISUAL
PLANNING
This section is concerned with the visual/creative
planning of your production. This is WHAT you want to
make
You should use this section to develop what is it going to
look/sound like and establish what the visual design is
and the desired sequence.
It is important that you ‘pre-visualise’ the project before
you make it; it will make filming and production a more
streamlined process.
The following tasks should be part of your visual
planning, including:
Pre-visualisation and concept boards
Storyboarding
Shot list
Flat plans
Colour plans
25. PRE-
VISUALISATION/CONCEPT
BOARDS
Tool for exploring the direction and visuals
Provides inspiration and information for the “look & feel”
Presents key moments in your video
A means to sketch/plan ideas
Information on colour/lighting
Defining the “mise-en-scene”
Include as much here as you like, but keep it relevant to the
production, the following slides have been left blank for you
to approach in your own way, add more as you need to
Extension suggestion: edit a short sequence of clips that
have inspired or influenced your video [similar to this:

hunger-games-might-be-better-than-the-real-movie]
26. CONCEPT BOARD
So basically what I'm wanting to make is
an interview documentary talking head
style, cut up with footage I've got from
Newcastle v Cambridge. I want to get
realistic video of Newcastle fans just
them being themselves, so I can get an
accurate representation of how they're
27. STRUCTURAL
BREAKDOWN/PLANNING
Breakdown your project into its basic sections and apply
broad visual and creative ideas to each section.
You can use this as the master template for your
production, then add more shots/pages, etc to each
section when you develop your full sequenced plan and
planned outcomes.
You should create a slide showing all the sections of the
project, then add a slide for each section with timings,
what happens visually and in terms of audio, page layout
aim to have as much specific detail as possible.
The structure of the project and method of doing this is
dictated by the type of project.
28. BREAKDOWN
So I was thinking about having like a big
start like having maybe a hot take on
Newcastle's future so when watching it
will lure you in to watch it.
And then ill probably add footage of
Newcastle with quick cuts between the
interview and the game, ill do quick cuts
because one it’s a two minute piece and
two because I like editing in that style. Ill
also add a voiceover from myself. And
then ill probably end with a conclusive
statement if that be a voiceover or an
interviewee saying something good for an
ending and that will be followed by the
waving flags of Newcastle in the stands
29. SHOT LIST - VIDEO
Your shot list should contain the sequential breakdown
of what you need to shoot for your video
It should work in partnership with your storyboard
It will be your working document when you film
It should contain the shot number, scene number, shot
description, framing and action you will see
It should also have information on performers in the
scene and other props, etc
Shot list template is on Teams.
31. AUDIO AND OTHER PLANNING
Remember, video production is a multi-sensory medium,
do not forget your audio planning, whether this is for
spoken dialogue, VO/narration, sound effect or
soundtrack. This needs detailed planning, linking to
sequencing and sourcing/creating.
So I will add some Newcastle fan chants I think and
maybe songs which are famous in Newcastle, like for the
intro or outro I will add a chant to get more of that
Geordie feeling. Ill have a script and do narration and I
will go back and forth with that throughout the whole
documentary.
33. ORGANISATIONAL PLANNING
If the visual and creative planning is the WHAT of the
production, organisational planning the WHO, WHAT,
WHERE, WHEN and WHY of the production.
This is the functional planning for the project, applying
common sense and organisation to your creative ideas.
34. PRODUCTION GROUP INFO
Include names, contact info, and defined roles at
difference stages of production, using a table is
suggested
Ethan Brown interviewee one
Mark Lucas Interviewee two
Jay Brown director
35. LOCATION INFORMATION
Information and images of your location[s] for filming
You should have address details, clearance/premissions
for filming, recce photos and floorplans [including
camera, equipment and cast/crew layouts]
Where possible, have a plan B fallback location option
Assess each location for any issues and suggest
solutions
So, I'm using my friends' dad's camera and filming at St
James’s park and then the second location will be at my
house or my friends house so I can do the interview.
36. RISK ASSESSMENT
Risk Assess each separate filming location using the
table in the camera H&S PP on Teams kit booking as a
starting point.
Completing a generic filming assessment would be a
start, then you can add specialist/site specific risks as
you progress your production
Remember, a Risk Assessment is an ongoing document,
you should evaluate if anything changes in production
and when you put control measures in place
You should add the table to each call sheet for each
location
I could possibly be asked to not film at the Newcastle
game but if I just keep it in my bag, it will probably be
fine. I will also have to tell the interviewees to speak
quite a lot unless if they don’t ill have no project to work
37. CONTINGENCY PLANNING
Things go wrong
Your contingency plan is there to give you a backup or to
minimize the effect on production
You should consider the following areas: Technical,
Location, Personnel and Organizational areas [about 5
potential issues for each]
Use the form in pre-production folder on Blackboard
I could possibly not be able to get my interviewees as one
said maybe and the other said he will get back to me. So
that means I would have to find someone else. In that case I
will either interview myself or get maybe archie Bradley to
do one.
Personally, I’m not sure if I can complete this project in 2
weeks, it’s a very short time and if it is anything like this
PowerPoint then I'm in big trouble.
I probably shouldn’t have planned around two people who
might not give good interviews or might not do it but here
38. PRODUCTION SCHEDULE
Your schedule should budget a total of 10 hours for
production, that is for the filming and editing of your
project.
You should plan when you’re filming and how you intend
to use the in-class days on your timetable/class
schedule
I'm going to film the Newcastle game on the 8th of
January so that’s a couple of hours and in theory the
interviews should only take an hour, and I will do the
interviews from the 14th of January to the 18th.
