Review of production experience on
Units 1-7
Creative Media Production Y1 2021-22
Analysis of projects
Each slide should be 75-100 words long
Which specific production tasks have you
enjoyed most this year?
• I enjoyed the music video project and the audio project work the most, getting to
actually create something and put it all together is satisfying and a great way
to improve your skills. The reason I enjoyed the music video especially was
because it allowed me to go out and film my own footage, it's cool to have a
vision of something in your mind then see it play out as you intended, then
getting to edit it all together, colour correct it. Useful skills to learn and
enjoyable.
What challenges have you faced this
year in your practical work?
I personally have had issues with not being able to film everything I wanted to, so
having to think on my feet and get an alternative scenario ready to be filmed, that
would still make sense with whatever it was I was filming. For example, I couldn’t
shoot everything I wanted to for the music video, so I had to change out some
shots, which looking back at my planning to see what I had put for my contingency
plan I could have also planned for this better, so I definitely need to improve my
planning skills too.
Which process do you think you have
made the most development in?
• I think my research has gotten slightly better over the course of the year, as
with the first few projects I mainly just wanted to get onto the practical stuff
as soon as possible and I neglected researching as much as I should have. I think
at the start my research had gaps in it, but I think I've improved that over the
year and now my research has more layers to it.
Which technical skill do you think is you
strongest?
• I think the strongest technical skill I have is filming, specifically framing
shots to create a cinematic looking image. I was always tinkering around with the
camera settings to try and capture the best possible picture I could when
shooting footage for the music video. Then when I went to edit it and added the
colour correction I wanted, it turned out exactly how I pictured it in my mind.
What do you think has been your best
project and why?
• I think either the music video or the audio project, although I do think the
audio project could have been longer and had a bit more of a story to it, so I'd
have to go with the music video, I think the reason it turned out the best was
because it was also the one, I enjoyed creating the most, getting to film then
edit your own footage into something was a lot of fun and it showed with the
final product even though I couldn’t get every bit of footage I wanted.
Which project did you enjoy least and
why?
• I think the project I enjoyed least was the most recent one with the magazine and
game animation one. While I appreciate both those things It's just not something
that stands out to me personally, although I appreciate what I learnt from it.
Producing a film story and poster was the best part of that project for me, the
part I enjoyed least was the pixelart section as I've never really been much of
an artist in the sense of ''drawing'', although I was quite happy with how the
game section turned out.
How have you managed your time
effectively this year?
• Yes and no. I think towards the start of the year I managed it quite well, but it
definitely slipped in January and February as I wasn’t in college, so trying to
keep on-top of all the work was difficult, but I was still able to get it all
handed in on time. However, working from home was stressful as I'm sure I missed
things that could have improved my work in the long run.
Action Plan
Each slide should be a minimum of 100
words in length
What roles/specialism do you see
yourself working in on future projects?
• I see myself directing, shooting or editing films. It's simply the only thing in
life that I want to do. So going into year 2, it's what I'll be focusing on and
improving on. I want to hone my skills to the best of my ability before trying to
create something I'd truly be passionate about like an actual feature or
something of the sort. Experience is always important, so having the opportunity
to get that through the course is great. It's also why I chose a short film to do
for my FMP and not just a trailer, I know it will be a tough challenge, but I
knew I needed to challenge myself and get the experience creating a coherent
story.
What do you see yourself doing at the
end of the course next year?
• (Assuming I pass) I'll most likely go to university to study film and create
short films and anything I can on the side while studying. Like I said in the
previous slide I really can't, see myself doing anything else in life, so getting
as much film study and experience under my belt is a must for me. If not
university, then I'll probably try going into some type of media environment
where I can work my way up the ladder and get to a position where I get to create
films, edit or do any type of work on them.
What research do you need to do in order to
explore your future progression options?
• Research universities that would have a film course that would be well suited to
me, then apply, apply, apply. Also look around for jobs within media and see if
any of those would be good viable options for me. I'd be happy working on a set,
just getting the vibe and experience down, whether it be set design or just a
crew member, but ultimately working my way up to a position where I can create
myself, so researching university film course where I can study film. I see film
like learning a new language, you have to understand what you are hearing before
you can speak it.

Creative Media Y1 Unit 3 Review

  • 1. Creative Media Professional Practice Review of production experience on Units 1-7 Creative Media Production Y1 2021-22
  • 2. Analysis of projects Each slide should be 75-100 words long
  • 3. Which specific production tasks have you enjoyed most this year? • I enjoyed the music video project and the audio project work the most, getting to actually create something and put it all together is satisfying and a great way to improve your skills. The reason I enjoyed the music video especially was because it allowed me to go out and film my own footage, it's cool to have a vision of something in your mind then see it play out as you intended, then getting to edit it all together, colour correct it. Useful skills to learn and enjoyable.
  • 4. What challenges have you faced this year in your practical work? I personally have had issues with not being able to film everything I wanted to, so having to think on my feet and get an alternative scenario ready to be filmed, that would still make sense with whatever it was I was filming. For example, I couldn’t shoot everything I wanted to for the music video, so I had to change out some shots, which looking back at my planning to see what I had put for my contingency plan I could have also planned for this better, so I definitely need to improve my planning skills too.
  • 5. Which process do you think you have made the most development in? • I think my research has gotten slightly better over the course of the year, as with the first few projects I mainly just wanted to get onto the practical stuff as soon as possible and I neglected researching as much as I should have. I think at the start my research had gaps in it, but I think I've improved that over the year and now my research has more layers to it.
  • 6. Which technical skill do you think is you strongest? • I think the strongest technical skill I have is filming, specifically framing shots to create a cinematic looking image. I was always tinkering around with the camera settings to try and capture the best possible picture I could when shooting footage for the music video. Then when I went to edit it and added the colour correction I wanted, it turned out exactly how I pictured it in my mind.
  • 7. What do you think has been your best project and why? • I think either the music video or the audio project, although I do think the audio project could have been longer and had a bit more of a story to it, so I'd have to go with the music video, I think the reason it turned out the best was because it was also the one, I enjoyed creating the most, getting to film then edit your own footage into something was a lot of fun and it showed with the final product even though I couldn’t get every bit of footage I wanted.
  • 8. Which project did you enjoy least and why? • I think the project I enjoyed least was the most recent one with the magazine and game animation one. While I appreciate both those things It's just not something that stands out to me personally, although I appreciate what I learnt from it. Producing a film story and poster was the best part of that project for me, the part I enjoyed least was the pixelart section as I've never really been much of an artist in the sense of ''drawing'', although I was quite happy with how the game section turned out.
  • 9. How have you managed your time effectively this year? • Yes and no. I think towards the start of the year I managed it quite well, but it definitely slipped in January and February as I wasn’t in college, so trying to keep on-top of all the work was difficult, but I was still able to get it all handed in on time. However, working from home was stressful as I'm sure I missed things that could have improved my work in the long run.
  • 10. Action Plan Each slide should be a minimum of 100 words in length
  • 11. What roles/specialism do you see yourself working in on future projects? • I see myself directing, shooting or editing films. It's simply the only thing in life that I want to do. So going into year 2, it's what I'll be focusing on and improving on. I want to hone my skills to the best of my ability before trying to create something I'd truly be passionate about like an actual feature or something of the sort. Experience is always important, so having the opportunity to get that through the course is great. It's also why I chose a short film to do for my FMP and not just a trailer, I know it will be a tough challenge, but I knew I needed to challenge myself and get the experience creating a coherent story.
  • 12. What do you see yourself doing at the end of the course next year? • (Assuming I pass) I'll most likely go to university to study film and create short films and anything I can on the side while studying. Like I said in the previous slide I really can't, see myself doing anything else in life, so getting as much film study and experience under my belt is a must for me. If not university, then I'll probably try going into some type of media environment where I can work my way up the ladder and get to a position where I get to create films, edit or do any type of work on them.
  • 13. What research do you need to do in order to explore your future progression options? • Research universities that would have a film course that would be well suited to me, then apply, apply, apply. Also look around for jobs within media and see if any of those would be good viable options for me. I'd be happy working on a set, just getting the vibe and experience down, whether it be set design or just a crew member, but ultimately working my way up to a position where I can create myself, so researching university film course where I can study film. I see film like learning a new language, you have to understand what you are hearing before you can speak it.

Editor's Notes

  1. Consider 2-3 specific practical parts of your work this year [e.g. filming or editing, etc] and discuss why these have been your favoured parts of the course so far
  2. Think about the work that has been most challenging this year [try and be specific when talking about tasks] and how you responded to it?
  3. A process would be research or planning or time management, it could be a combination. Talk about what it is, how you feel you’ve developed and where this was most evident in the year
  4. This is a technical skill like filming, editing, photo manipulation, designing adverts or using Photoshop – think of an example that shows your strength
  5. This is looking at how you see yourself specialising as we move into the FMP and into Year 2
