Analysis of projects

Which specific production tasks have you
enjoyed most this year?
• I really enjoyed filming the music video in the first project, partially because
I loved the song I was doing, and partially because it felt like I had a lot of
creative freedom with exactly what I could do in the video. I also really enjoyed
creating the sprites for the animation project, and recolouring the statues with
the adventure experiment. This may have bee because of an interest in the
mythology, but I was already interested in learning photoshop skills and pixel
animation especially coming into the course.
What challenges have you faced this
year in your practical work?
• I think the audio project was difficult as it required a lot of research for how
to create different sounds with what limited resources I could gather, and ended
up relying more on my voice than the actual sounds themselves, which would have
gotten me a higher grade for the project. I also initially found the Adventure
Project difficult as I had barely learned photoshop by the time we had started
it.
Which process do you think you have
made the most development in?
• I feel like I have made the most development in my evaluating skills but only
really towards the end of the year with this project because I have been simply
more interested and focused on it in comparison to the other projects.
Which technical skill do you think is you
strongest?
• I had no real idea on how to use Photoshop before the course began, and now I’m
at least aware of some of the features and uses and can edit photos fairly well,
as I think I have shown in the adventure production 1 experiments, and also I
gained a better understanding of how to properly animate using frame-by-frame
pixel graphics in Photoshop.
What do you think has been your best
project and why?
• I think the animation part of adventure has been the best project for me so far
because I have felt less stressed and overwhelmed with the evaluation and
planning parts and so have been able to approach the project with a clearer
overall head and so while it is not yet complete at the time of writing I feel
like the evaluation especially will be of a better quality than the previous
projects. I have also very much enjoyed doing the sprite work so have been more
focused in lesson time.
Which project did you enjoy least and
why?
• I enjoyed the audio project least because I felt like I did not have a full grasp
on what I really wanted to do right up until very close to the deadline and
ultimately felt like the product was underwhelming, and the evaluation, planning
and pre-production documents were rushed and not to the best quality that they
could have been because of that.
How have you managed your time
effectively this year?
• I have accounted for the fact that I struggle to maintain my attention for the
entire session sometimes by doing some of the work from my home PC, mainly the
planning and evaluation documents if any need finishing off after allocated class
time is complete.

What roles/specialism do you see
yourself working in on future projects?
• I see myself potentially working on print based work such as magazines and books,
as I think if given a second chance, I could do far better than my previous
magazine project, with more edits more akin to my experiments. I could also see
myself working with pixel design in Photoshop as this has been a very enjoyable
project for me, especially with making the sprites and I think with more time I
could make more developed walk cycles and fluent animations.
What do you see yourself doing at the
end of the course next year?
• I will have already looked at potential universities by that point, though it may
be worth doing another course on top of this one at York College before heading
to university, something that can advance a university course and compliment this
one.
What research do you need to do in order to
explore your future progression options?
• Mainly for the time being I need to research what universities are looking for in
their applicants, and what skills and techniques I will need to learn and develop
in order to be accepted into a university I can be happy with.

  • 3. Which specific production tasks have you enjoyed most this year? • I really enjoyed filming the music video in the first project, partially because I loved the song I was doing, and partially because it felt like I had a lot of creative freedom with exactly what I could do in the video. I also really enjoyed creating the sprites for the animation project, and recolouring the statues with the adventure experiment. This may have bee because of an interest in the mythology, but I was already interested in learning photoshop skills and pixel animation especially coming into the course.
  • 4. What challenges have you faced this year in your practical work? • I think the audio project was difficult as it required a lot of research for how to create different sounds with what limited resources I could gather, and ended up relying more on my voice than the actual sounds themselves, which would have gotten me a higher grade for the project. I also initially found the Adventure Project difficult as I had barely learned photoshop by the time we had started it.
  • 5. Which process do you think you have made the most development in? • I feel like I have made the most development in my evaluating skills but only really towards the end of the year with this project because I have been simply more interested and focused on it in comparison to the other projects.
  • 6. Which technical skill do you think is you strongest? • I had no real idea on how to use Photoshop before the course began, and now I’m at least aware of some of the features and uses and can edit photos fairly well, as I think I have shown in the adventure production 1 experiments, and also I gained a better understanding of how to properly animate using frame-by-frame pixel graphics in Photoshop.
  • 7. What do you think has been your best project and why? • I think the animation part of adventure has been the best project for me so far because I have felt less stressed and overwhelmed with the evaluation and planning parts and so have been able to approach the project with a clearer overall head and so while it is not yet complete at the time of writing I feel like the evaluation especially will be of a better quality than the previous projects. I have also very much enjoyed doing the sprite work so have been more focused in lesson time.
  • 8. Which project did you enjoy least and why? • I enjoyed the audio project least because I felt like I did not have a full grasp on what I really wanted to do right up until very close to the deadline and ultimately felt like the product was underwhelming, and the evaluation, planning and pre-production documents were rushed and not to the best quality that they could have been because of that.
  • 9. How have you managed your time effectively this year? • I have accounted for the fact that I struggle to maintain my attention for the entire session sometimes by doing some of the work from my home PC, mainly the planning and evaluation documents if any need finishing off after allocated class time is complete.

What roles/specialism do you see yourself working in on future projects? • I see myself potentially working on print based work such as magazines and books, as I think if given a second chance, I could do far better than my previous magazine project, with more edits more akin to my experiments. I could also see myself working with pixel design in Photoshop as this has been a very enjoyable project for me, especially with making the sprites and I think with more time I could make more developed walk cycles and fluent animations.

What do you see yourself doing at the end of the course next year? • I will have already looked at potential universities by that point, though it may be worth doing another course on top of this one at York College before heading to university, something that can advance a university course and compliment this one.
  • 13. What research do you need to do in order to explore your future progression options? • Mainly for the time being I need to research what universities are looking for in their applicants, and what skills and techniques I will need to learn and develop in order to be accepted into a university I can be happy with.
