Initial Ideas & Context
Andina Bispo
Pre-proposal
I’ll create a short movie about a person that goes crazy and murder all their friends;
and create a poster about the movie. I wanted to create something different than
what I did for my first film project in college; while the first one I made had a very
positive energy, with bright filters and colourful images, this one I want to be in a
darker tone. This project will allow me to experiment out of my comfort zone and
increase my skills in genres I’m not used to; furthermore, I believe this will greatly
exercise my creativity and my problem-solving skills. This idea came to me when I
was thinking what kind of movies/tv shows I like to watch, and one of the first things
that came to my mind was Black Mirror. Black Mirror is a show that tells science
fiction tales that reflect the dark side of technology; I wanted my work to be more of
that mysterious/suspense vibe. I want my audience to feel shocked and disgusted
when they see the plot twist of the movie; I want them to believe the innocence of
the character in the beginning, and then feel fooled at the end when they find out
what really happened. The movie will have a light/fun mood at the beginning which
will change to heavy/dark as the movie goes on; It won’t be a horror movie, but
rather more of a suspense style. I didn’t want to make it horror themed throughout
the whole film because I thought that would take away the shock element and the
plot twist of the story; and so, I decided to go for a suspense because, besides being
one of my favourite genres, in my opinion, impacts people more than horror.
Initial Reaction
Following my interests and what was most successful for me this year, I will make a
short film and a poster for that film. With my film idea ready, I have a few options
about how this film could be made (regarding filming techniques, styles, etc.)
So far, what I thought could match better the story of my film are:
• Make a film in a vintage style. I could achieve this by either using a vintage
camera or applying a vintage filter to my footage on Premiere Pro (I could also
use after effects as it gives me a wide range of effects I could use).
• Make a film in a modern style. What I mean by that is use a digital camera and
include modern technology items to make the film more adapted to current time.
• Mix the first two ideas together. I would use the idea of the vintage camera in
some parts of my film but the story would be happening in modern times; I
would use a child’s camera, that has a poor quality image to accentuate the
horror element because I believe it would make it more terrifying if the audience
couldn’t quite see exactly what is happening, that would stimulate imagination.
Regardless of the style I choose to go with at the end, my story will still follow the
horror theme; I decided to go with that theme because it is the complete opposite
of what I did for my first filming project, and so, I believe it will be a challenge to me
and it will help expand my skills in this area.
Mind Map
Mood Board
Mood Board Analysis
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images
styles/fonts/tone/mood
• Yes, in my mood board it is possible to see repetitions such as: friends arguing,
blood, murder, people horrified. Those images set a dark mood with repeated
colours such as red, brown and black. I made sure that my mood board included
image styles that agreed with the kind of story I’m trying to create with my film,
and so because my story is about a murder, I choose images that reflected what
my story was about.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• I want to use my mood board as my guide when creating my film, however, my
mood board may not reflect entirely my final product because modifications may
be needed along the way to make sure everything (from filming to editing) runs
smoothly.
Influence/Inspiration
My first and main inspiration for my project is the show Black Mirror.
Charlie Brooker created the British anthology television series Black Mirror.
Individual episodes cover a wide range of genres, but the majority are set in near-
future dystopias with science fiction technology, which is a sort of speculative
fiction. The Twilight Zone-inspired series employs technology to remark on
contemporary social issues. Brooker writes the majority of the episodes, with
executive producer Annabel Jones playing a key role.
In addition to the interactive feature Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, there are 22
episodes spread across five seasons and one special (2018). The first two series, as
well as the 2014 special "White Christmas," aired on Channel 4 in the United
Kingdom in 2011 and 2013. The show then went to Netflix, where it aired three
further seasons in 2016, 2017, and 2019.
Influence/Inspiration
Influence/Inspiration
My second inspiration for my story is American Horror Story.
Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk created the anthology horror television series
American Horror Story for the cable network FX. Each season of the American
Story media franchise is planned as a self-contained miniseries, with a new cast of
characters and places, as well as a storyline with its own "beginning, middle, and
finish." Each season's plot elements are loosely based on true events. Many
performers appear in multiple seasons, often portraying different characters. Evan
Peters, Sarah Paulson, and Lily Rabe have all appeared in nine of the first 10
seasons, followed by Frances Conroy, who has been in eight, and Denis O'Hare,
who has appeared in six. Other famous actors include Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates,
and Kathy Bates. The first season, titled Murder House, is set in Los Angeles,
California in 2011 and follows a family who moves into a house haunted by the
ghosts of its previous occupants. The second season, dubbed Asylum, is set in
1964 in Massachusetts and follows the patients and staff of a detention centre for
the criminally ill. The third season, named Coven, is set in 2013 in New Orleans,
Louisiana, and follows a coven of witches as they battle those who want to kill
them. The fourth season, named Freak Show, is set in 1952 in Jupiter, Florida, and
follows one of the last remaining American freak shows as they fight for survival.
Influence/Inspiration
The fifth season, Hotel, is set in 2015 in Los Angeles, California, and follows the
staff and guests of a supernatural hotel. The sixth season, dubbed Roanoke, is set
in North Carolina from 2014 to 2016 and centres on paranormal happenings that
occur at a remote farmhouse haunted by the Roanoke colony's ghosts. The
seventh season, named Cult, takes place in the fictional Michigan suburb of
Brookfield Heights from 2016 to 2017, and follows a cult terrorising the locals in
the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election. The eighth season, titled
Apocalypse, sees the witches from Coven combat the Antichrist from Murder
House in an attempt to prevent the end of the world. The ninth season, named
1984, is set in the 1980s outside of Los Angeles and follows a group of young staff
members at a summer camp that is preparing to reopen 14 years after a massacre.
The tenth season, dubbed Double Feature, is divided into two parts, the first of
which takes place in 2021 and follows a family as they relocate to Provincetown,
Massachusetts, where odd residents begin to influence their lives. In the second
chapter, a group of teenagers on a camping trip become entangled in a horrifying
and deadly extra-terrestrial plot that has been in the works for decades.

Influence/Inspiration
My third inspiration for my story is the movie Circle.
Aaron Hann and Mario Miscione wrote and directed Circle, a 2015 American
science fiction psychological horror-thriller film. Carter Jenkins, Lawrence Kao,
Allegra Masters, Michael Nardelli, Julie Benz, Mercy Malick, Lisa Pelikan, and Cesar
Garcia are among the ensemble cast members. It was shot in 2014 and was
inspired by the 1957 play 12 Angry Men. It had its world premiere on May 28,
2015, at the Seattle International Film Festival, before being published on video-
on-demand on October 16, 2015. In the movie, fifty people wake up in a darkened
room to discover that one of them is killed every two minutes or when they try to
flee. When they learn they have control over who is chosen to die, they form blocs
based on personal ideals. The film "Circle" is about humanity. How we esteem
each other and how people react when compelled to make decisions under the
most adverse conditions. It's a film that gets to the heart of what makes us
human: who we are, what we believe, and, ultimately, how far we'll go to rescue
ourselves.

Skills Audit 2
Why are you making this project?
I am making this project because I believe that I can mix something I am good at
with something I do not experience at and improve my skills and ideas for future
projects, not only at college, but perhaps in other places.
Since I believe I am most skilled at filming and it was the project I enjoyed the
most this year, I opted to make a project that involved filming making alongside
with something else I enjoyed this year, that was making a poster for Adventure
part 1.
I chose the horror theme for my story because it is something that brings me out
of my comfort zone. I believe that this is a positive thing as it will allow me to
experiment with a theme that I have no experience with, and thus allowing me to
positively expand my skills, which will help me with future projects, as I will have
knowledge in various zones, making my work diverse.
I decided to add the poster to my work because I think the film would be
incomplete if it didn’t have a poster to represent the film and to give people an
idea of what the movie is about. Furthermore, it is something that I would like to
do because I like photography and working with photoshop.
Hopes for the FMP
Personally, I am trying to do my best to deliver a good product at the end of my
work, but also trying to prepare myself for the chance that things will not go as
smoothly and perfect as I want; I am hoping that, with a good planning, my work
will be delivered on time and to a good standard.
Apart from that, I expect that this project, because of how big and lengthy it is, will
give me enough time to accomplish what envision for my project as well as enjoy
the process and learn along the way.
Although I know that some elements of my work could change along the way for
technical or personal issues, I will try to keep it as close to my original idea as I
can. Also, I would like this to be a fun project for me because I believe that if I
enjoy what I am doing, it will help my project to run smoothly despite possible
problems.
I am also hoping that all will go well regarding my cast; because I know that,
although they are my friends, personal problems between them or in their
personal lives could interfere in my project; if this were to happen, we would work
our best to solve our problems and continue with work as planned.
Strengths and Limitations
Strengths
• Resilience: I can recover quickly from difficulties; this will help me in moments
where my production is not running smoothly and I need to think calmly how to
solve them ang get my production running again.
• Open-minded: I am always willing to consider new ideas; this could make my work a
lot better because someone could have an idea that is better than mine and it works
better in my project.
• Teamwork: I love to work in a team and combine our actions to improve my work;
this will make my production be successful as I will have people to help me along
the way.
Limitations
• Poor time management: I don’t know how to use my time well and always end up
having to rush to finish my work on time; this could potentially make me ruin
something in my production and not have time to fix.
• Insecure: I am often not confident in own ideas; this could make me not work well
because I keep worrying that my ideas are not good.
• Stubborn: I often insist to work on ideas that clearly do not work; this could make
me lose time and affect the quality on the rest of my work.
Potential Research Activities
For research I believe that surveys and short questionnaires will work best
because people often skip research activities if they are too long, and as the goal
is to get as much feedback as possible, the best is to create short surveys to keep
people interested.
To achieve this I could use either survey monkey or google forms. The advantage
of using survey monkey is that they have great graphs for result analysis, and also
that you have several options when creating questions (such as multiple choice,
checkboxes, slider, ranking, comment box, etc); the disadvantage of using survey
monkey is that it will only show you up to ten responses, if you want to analyse
more responses you’d have to pay. And this is a disadvantage because the results
might not be as precise as they could be if it was possible to analyse more
responses.
The advantage of using google forms is that you can analyse results without a
number limit, they also have graphs for result analysis, it is an easy tool to use. The
disadvantages of using google forms is that their graphs are not as good as survey
monkey and that you don’t have as much options when creating questions.

I would use the idea of the vintage camera in some parts of my film but the story would be happening in modern times; I would use a child’s camera, that has a poor quality image to accentuate the horror element because I believe it would make it more terrifying if the audience couldn’t quite see exactly what is happening, that would stimulate imagination. Regardless of the style I choose to go with at the end, my story will still follow the horror theme; I decided to go with that theme because it is the complete opposite of what I did for my first filming project, and so, I believe it will be a challenge to me and it will help expand my skills in this area.
  • 6. Mood Board Analysis Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood • Yes, in my mood board it is possible to see repetitions such as: friends arguing, blood, murder, people horrified. Those images set a dark mood with repeated colours such as red, brown and black. I made sure that my mood board included image styles that agreed with the kind of story I’m trying to create with my film, and so because my story is about a murder, I choose images that reflected what my story was about. How will your mood board influence your final product? • I want to use my mood board as my guide when creating my film, however, my mood board may not reflect entirely my final product because modifications may be needed along the way to make sure everything (from filming to editing) runs smoothly.
  • 7. Influence/Inspiration My first and main inspiration for my project is the show Black Mirror. Charlie Brooker created the British anthology television series Black Mirror. Individual episodes cover a wide range of genres, but the majority are set in near- future dystopias with science fiction technology, which is a sort of speculative fiction. The Twilight Zone-inspired series employs technology to remark on contemporary social issues. Brooker writes the majority of the episodes, with executive producer Annabel Jones playing a key role. In addition to the interactive feature Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, there are 22 episodes spread across five seasons and one special (2018). The first two series, as well as the 2014 special "White Christmas," aired on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom in 2011 and 2013. The show then went to Netflix, where it aired three further seasons in 2016, 2017, and 2019.
  • 9. Influence/Inspiration My second inspiration for my story is American Horror Story. Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk created the anthology horror television series American Horror Story for the cable network FX. Each season of the American Story media franchise is planned as a self-contained miniseries, with a new cast of characters and places, as well as a storyline with its own "beginning, middle, and finish." Each season's plot elements are loosely based on true events. Many performers appear in multiple seasons, often portraying different characters. Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, and Lily Rabe have all appeared in nine of the first 10 seasons, followed by Frances Conroy, who has been in eight, and Denis O'Hare, who has appeared in six. Other famous actors include Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, and Kathy Bates. The first season, titled Murder House, is set in Los Angeles, California in 2011 and follows a family who moves into a house haunted by the ghosts of its previous occupants. The second season, dubbed Asylum, is set in 1964 in Massachusetts and follows the patients and staff of a detention centre for the criminally ill. The third season, named Coven, is set in 2013 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and follows a coven of witches as they battle those who want to kill them. The fourth season, named Freak Show, is set in 1952 in Jupiter, Florida, and follows one of the last remaining American freak shows as they fight for survival.
  • 10. Influence/Inspiration The fifth season, Hotel, is set in 2015 in Los Angeles, California, and follows the staff and guests of a supernatural hotel. The sixth season, dubbed Roanoke, is set in North Carolina from 2014 to 2016 and centres on paranormal happenings that occur at a remote farmhouse haunted by the Roanoke colony's ghosts. The seventh season, named Cult, takes place in the fictional Michigan suburb of Brookfield Heights from 2016 to 2017, and follows a cult terrorising the locals in the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election. The eighth season, titled Apocalypse, sees the witches from Coven combat the Antichrist from Murder House in an attempt to prevent the end of the world. The ninth season, named 1984, is set in the 1980s outside of Los Angeles and follows a group of young staff members at a summer camp that is preparing to reopen 14 years after a massacre. The tenth season, dubbed Double Feature, is divided into two parts, the first of which takes place in 2021 and follows a family as they relocate to Provincetown, Massachusetts, where odd residents begin to influence their lives. In the second chapter, a group of teenagers on a camping trip become entangled in a horrifying and deadly extra-terrestrial plot that has been in the works for decades.
  • 13. Influence/Inspiration My third inspiration for my story is the movie Circle. Aaron Hann and Mario Miscione wrote and directed Circle, a 2015 American science fiction psychological horror-thriller film. Carter Jenkins, Lawrence Kao, Allegra Masters, Michael Nardelli, Julie Benz, Mercy Malick, Lisa Pelikan, and Cesar Garcia are among the ensemble cast members. It was shot in 2014 and was inspired by the 1957 play 12 Angry Men. It had its world premiere on May 28, 2015, at the Seattle International Film Festival, before being published on video- on-demand on October 16, 2015. In the movie, fifty people wake up in a darkened room to discover that one of them is killed every two minutes or when they try to flee. When they learn they have control over who is chosen to die, they form blocs based on personal ideals. The film "Circle" is about humanity. How we esteem each other and how people react when compelled to make decisions under the most adverse conditions. It's a film that gets to the heart of what makes us human: who we are, what we believe, and, ultimately, how far we'll go to rescue ourselves.
  • 19. Why are you making this project? I am making this project because I believe that I can mix something I am good at with something I do not experience at and improve my skills and ideas for future projects, not only at college, but perhaps in other places. Since I believe I am most skilled at filming and it was the project I enjoyed the most this year, I opted to make a project that involved filming making alongside with something else I enjoyed this year, that was making a poster for Adventure part 1. I chose the horror theme for my story because it is something that brings me out of my comfort zone. I believe that this is a positive thing as it will allow me to experiment with a theme that I have no experience with, and thus allowing me to positively expand my skills, which will help me with future projects, as I will have knowledge in various zones, making my work diverse. I decided to add the poster to my work because I think the film would be incomplete if it didn’t have a poster to represent the film and to give people an idea of what the movie is about. Furthermore, it is something that I would like to do because I like photography and working with photoshop.
  • 20. Hopes for the FMP Personally, I am trying to do my best to deliver a good product at the end of my work, but also trying to prepare myself for the chance that things will not go as smoothly and perfect as I want; I am hoping that, with a good planning, my work will be delivered on time and to a good standard. Apart from that, I expect that this project, because of how big and lengthy it is, will give me enough time to accomplish what envision for my project as well as enjoy the process and learn along the way. Although I know that some elements of my work could change along the way for technical or personal issues, I will try to keep it as close to my original idea as I can. Also, I would like this to be a fun project for me because I believe that if I enjoy what I am doing, it will help my project to run smoothly despite possible problems. I am also hoping that all will go well regarding my cast; because I know that, although they are my friends, personal problems between them or in their personal lives could interfere in my project; if this were to happen, we would work our best to solve our problems and continue with work as planned.
  • 21. Strengths and Limitations Strengths • Resilience: I can recover quickly from difficulties; this will help me in moments where my production is not running smoothly and I need to think calmly how to solve them ang get my production running again. • Open-minded: I am always willing to consider new ideas; this could make my work a lot better because someone could have an idea that is better than mine and it works better in my project. • Teamwork: I love to work in a team and combine our actions to improve my work; this will make my production be successful as I will have people to help me along the way. Limitations • Poor time management: I don’t know how to use my time well and always end up having to rush to finish my work on time; this could potentially make me ruin something in my production and not have time to fix. • Insecure: I am often not confident in own ideas; this could make me not work well because I keep worrying that my ideas are not good. • Stubborn: I often insist to work on ideas that clearly do not work; this could make me lose time and affect the quality on the rest of my work.
  • 22. Potential Research Activities For research I believe that surveys and short questionnaires will work best because people often skip research activities if they are too long, and as the goal is to get as much feedback as possible, the best is to create short surveys to keep people interested. To achieve this I could use either survey monkey or google forms. The advantage of using survey monkey is that they have great graphs for result analysis, and also that you have several options when creating questions (such as multiple choice, checkboxes, slider, ranking, comment box, etc); the disadvantage of using survey monkey is that it will only show you up to ten responses, if you want to analyse more responses you’d have to pay. And this is a disadvantage because the results might not be as precise as they could be if it was possible to analyse more responses. The advantage of using google forms is that you can analyse results without a number limit, they also have graphs for result analysis, it is an easy tool to use. The disadvantages of using google forms is that their graphs are not as good as survey monkey and that you don’t have as much options when creating questions.
