Review of production experience on
Units 1-7
Creative Media Production Y1 2021-22
Analysis of projects
Each slide should be 75-100 words long
Which specific production tasks have you
enjoyed most this year?
• I feel as if out of all the projects we have done so far, although it’s very
close between the magazine side of the adventure project and the music video
project. I found the music video project my most favourite. Especially the camera
work part of it. I really enjoyed going out with the camera and equipment and
putting together a shot. I feel as if this is because of where I’d like to go
later in life. I also enjoyed the editing part of it more and more I learnt how
to use premier pro and watching my work come together, as well as that, when I
came up against challenges I enjoyed trying to solve them as best as I could with
my abilities.
What challenges have you faced this
year in your practical work?
• The work I found most difficult so far will have to be making my animations for
the game side of the adventure project. Especially the walk cycle. I completely
underestimated how long and difficult a walk cycle could be. It took me a while
to understand and figure out the best way to have a lot of detail in my
character’s walk without making it take for ever to get him to walk from A to B.
The best way I found to respond was to just experiment with different ways the
legs moved. But I also found creating my foley sounds for my audio project
difficult too. The difficult part was trying to figure out what possible props
could help create the noise I wanted, or that sometimes I’d have to mix multiple
sounds together to create one sound. To get around this issue, I had to do more
research whilst during production too find out what could be used for certain
sounds.
Which process do you think you have
made the most development in?
• I definitely think that my time management has improved after my music video
project. During my music video project, I didn’t use my time very wisely, I tried
to do most of my work in the last weekend of the project and although I did
manage to get it done and it turned out as good as I had hoped, it was very
rushed and quite stressful. After that project I realised that that was
definitely not the way to do my future projects and I had to make sure that that
doesn’t happen again. So with later projects my time management improved
massively allowing me to work a lot less stressed and allowed me to add more
detail to projects.
Which technical skill do you think is you
strongest?
• I’d say my strongest technical skill would have to be camera work. This is mostly
because of my interests and can be shown in some projects like my music video and
the ‘Locker Key Short Film’. I feel as if some of the shots taken by me in those
projects show that it’s a strong skill I have and the fact that filming is a very
big interest of mine, I can only assume that my skill will improve with the more
experience that I get. Going back to some of my shots from the music video, I
feel as if the shot of the detective in the car and how I started with the camera
in the car and moved the camera backwards out of one of the windows to watch the
car drive away shows my potential within that technical skill.
What do you think has been your best
project and why?
• Although I enjoyed the music video project the most, I actually think that my
best work has been the adventure project, especially the magazine and poster side
of the project. I followed as strong as I could my planning, all of my colour
schemes and layouts and resulted in products that were better than I originally
expected. I feel very proud of my work and feel as if they will be graded better
than my music video and the others. This is because when I finished the other
projects, I would look back over them and find bits that I didn’t like, for
example one shot being too slow paced in my music video, but with the adventure
project, I didn’t look back seeing parts I didn’t like, I was very happy with
everything I had done.
Which project did you enjoy least and
why?
• I definitely enjoyed the Audio project the least. Simply because the main product
that we had to make didn’t interest me anywhere near as much as other projects
did. I did enjoy the Shaun of the Dead part of the project, but the rest wasn’t
interesting as other projects to me. Even recording my sound effects wasn’t as
fun as I’d imagined, if I had to create a sound effect for a film that had
already been shot, it would have been different, but creating sound effects for
something new like a soundscape that couldn’t be watched made it to easy to make
one sound effect and just move on. I like taking multiple takes of one shot or
part of the story to improve on it, that didn’t really happen with my project.
How have you managed your time
effectively this year?
• My time management didn’t go very well for the music video project, which luckily
enough for me was the first project of the year so I got to reflect on that and
change how I approach a project early in the year. Apart from that, I feel as if
my time management has been good. For example, in the last adventure project, I
knew that making a video game would take time, granted not as long as I expected,
so when I finished one part of the PowerPoint earlier than expected, after
checking it was done properly, I made sure to use the time effectively and start
making my game earlier than others which gave me extra time to create characters
and backgrounds.
Action Plan
Each slide should be a minimum of 100
words in length
What roles/specialism do you see
yourself working in on future projects?
• I see myself specialising in film and camera work for my future projects simply
as that’s where my main interests are at. I want to hopefully get to making
films, whether that’s story writing, cinematography or just camera operating I'm
not sure but that’s definitely where I want to go when I leave college and step
into a career, so it only makes sense to push towards that. On the other hand I
do like the idea of doing something print based, I really enjoy making posters or
magazine covers in photoshop, but I just don’t think that that enjoyment
overpowers the enjoyment and interests I have in film.
What do you see yourself doing at the
end of the course next year?
• I’m not exactly sure what I’d like to do when I leave college except something to
do with film production. I’ve been looking at going to university but also the
idea of an apprenticeship, I Believe that if I want tot got university, I need to
do a lot more research into universities and their courses. But on the other
hand, I’ve heard from people who work in the business the best way to try and get
into that career is just getting a job and gaining experience. So, I could
possibly incorporate the idea with going to university maybe part time and
getting a part time job somewhere in the field. Luckily for me, I have film
production company at the end of my village.
What research do you need to do in order to
explore your future progression options?
• I need to do a lot more research in almost all fields. I need to research deeper
into universities and their courses and which has the film production course. As
well as that I need to research the apprenticeship side of film production, for
example the requirements, where offer them, which is “best”. But although it
would be ideal to work at the film production company at the end of my village, I
maybe would like. To look at other places, if I was going to university to study
film production, I would maybe look at try to get a part time job somewhere that
necessarily isn’t film based, I would maybe also look somewhere print based as
that does interest me as well.

Job roles 2

  • 1. Creative Media Professional Practice Review of production experience on Units 1-7 Creative Media Production Y1 2021-22
  • 2. Analysis of projects Each slide should be 75-100 words long
  • 3. Which specific production tasks have you enjoyed most this year? • I feel as if out of all the projects we have done so far, although it’s very close between the magazine side of the adventure project and the music video project. I found the music video project my most favourite. Especially the camera work part of it. I really enjoyed going out with the camera and equipment and putting together a shot. I feel as if this is because of where I’d like to go later in life. I also enjoyed the editing part of it more and more I learnt how to use premier pro and watching my work come together, as well as that, when I came up against challenges I enjoyed trying to solve them as best as I could with my abilities.
  • 4. What challenges have you faced this year in your practical work? • The work I found most difficult so far will have to be making my animations for the game side of the adventure project. Especially the walk cycle. I completely underestimated how long and difficult a walk cycle could be. It took me a while to understand and figure out the best way to have a lot of detail in my character’s walk without making it take for ever to get him to walk from A to B. The best way I found to respond was to just experiment with different ways the legs moved. But I also found creating my foley sounds for my audio project difficult too. The difficult part was trying to figure out what possible props could help create the noise I wanted, or that sometimes I’d have to mix multiple sounds together to create one sound. To get around this issue, I had to do more research whilst during production too find out what could be used for certain sounds.
  • 5. Which process do you think you have made the most development in? • I definitely think that my time management has improved after my music video project. During my music video project, I didn’t use my time very wisely, I tried to do most of my work in the last weekend of the project and although I did manage to get it done and it turned out as good as I had hoped, it was very rushed and quite stressful. After that project I realised that that was definitely not the way to do my future projects and I had to make sure that that doesn’t happen again. So with later projects my time management improved massively allowing me to work a lot less stressed and allowed me to add more detail to projects.
  • 6. Which technical skill do you think is you strongest? • I’d say my strongest technical skill would have to be camera work. This is mostly because of my interests and can be shown in some projects like my music video and the ‘Locker Key Short Film’. I feel as if some of the shots taken by me in those projects show that it’s a strong skill I have and the fact that filming is a very big interest of mine, I can only assume that my skill will improve with the more experience that I get. Going back to some of my shots from the music video, I feel as if the shot of the detective in the car and how I started with the camera in the car and moved the camera backwards out of one of the windows to watch the car drive away shows my potential within that technical skill.
  • 7. What do you think has been your best project and why? • Although I enjoyed the music video project the most, I actually think that my best work has been the adventure project, especially the magazine and poster side of the project. I followed as strong as I could my planning, all of my colour schemes and layouts and resulted in products that were better than I originally expected. I feel very proud of my work and feel as if they will be graded better than my music video and the others. This is because when I finished the other projects, I would look back over them and find bits that I didn’t like, for example one shot being too slow paced in my music video, but with the adventure project, I didn’t look back seeing parts I didn’t like, I was very happy with everything I had done.
  • 8. Which project did you enjoy least and why? • I definitely enjoyed the Audio project the least. Simply because the main product that we had to make didn’t interest me anywhere near as much as other projects did. I did enjoy the Shaun of the Dead part of the project, but the rest wasn’t interesting as other projects to me. Even recording my sound effects wasn’t as fun as I’d imagined, if I had to create a sound effect for a film that had already been shot, it would have been different, but creating sound effects for something new like a soundscape that couldn’t be watched made it to easy to make one sound effect and just move on. I like taking multiple takes of one shot or part of the story to improve on it, that didn’t really happen with my project.
  • 9. How have you managed your time effectively this year? • My time management didn’t go very well for the music video project, which luckily enough for me was the first project of the year so I got to reflect on that and change how I approach a project early in the year. Apart from that, I feel as if my time management has been good. For example, in the last adventure project, I knew that making a video game would take time, granted not as long as I expected, so when I finished one part of the PowerPoint earlier than expected, after checking it was done properly, I made sure to use the time effectively and start making my game earlier than others which gave me extra time to create characters and backgrounds.
  • 10. Action Plan Each slide should be a minimum of 100 words in length
  • 11. What roles/specialism do you see yourself working in on future projects? • I see myself specialising in film and camera work for my future projects simply as that’s where my main interests are at. I want to hopefully get to making films, whether that’s story writing, cinematography or just camera operating I'm not sure but that’s definitely where I want to go when I leave college and step into a career, so it only makes sense to push towards that. On the other hand I do like the idea of doing something print based, I really enjoy making posters or magazine covers in photoshop, but I just don’t think that that enjoyment overpowers the enjoyment and interests I have in film.
  • 12. What do you see yourself doing at the end of the course next year? • I’m not exactly sure what I’d like to do when I leave college except something to do with film production. I’ve been looking at going to university but also the idea of an apprenticeship, I Believe that if I want tot got university, I need to do a lot more research into universities and their courses. But on the other hand, I’ve heard from people who work in the business the best way to try and get into that career is just getting a job and gaining experience. So, I could possibly incorporate the idea with going to university maybe part time and getting a part time job somewhere in the field. Luckily for me, I have film production company at the end of my village.
  • 13. What research do you need to do in order to explore your future progression options? • I need to do a lot more research in almost all fields. I need to research deeper into universities and their courses and which has the film production course. As well as that I need to research the apprenticeship side of film production, for example the requirements, where offer them, which is “best”. But although it would be ideal to work at the film production company at the end of my village, I maybe would like. To look at other places, if I was going to university to study film production, I would maybe look at try to get a part time job somewhere that necessarily isn’t film based, I would maybe also look somewhere print based as that does interest me as well.

Editor's Notes

  1. Consider 2-3 specific practical parts of your work this year [e.g. filming or editing, etc] and discuss why these have been your favoured parts of the course so far
  2. Think about the work that has been most challenging this year [try and be specific when talking about tasks] and how you responded to it?
  3. A process would be research or planning or time management, it could be a combination. Talk about what it is, how you feel you’ve developed and where this was most evident in the year
  4. This is a technical skill like filming, editing, photo manipulation, designing adverts or using Photoshop – think of an example that shows your strength
  5. This is looking at how you see yourself specialising as we move into the FMP and into Year 2
