3. Which specific production tasks have you
enjoyed most this year?
• My favourite tasks this year have been the poster design for the adventure
project, the music video and the audio/foley sound project. I enjoyed the poster
design as it has two of my favourite aspects of the course (using cameras and
photoshop). Using cameras for both images and video is fun because it allows you
to do as you please, when and where you want. Using adobe sweet software such as
premier pro and photoshop also allow you to make as you please and when you have
the creative freedom to do as you want you can do anything you like. I enjoyed the
audio project the most as I feel like the work I produced was some of the highest
quality.
4. What challenges have you faced this
year in your practical work?
• Time has been the most difficult aspect on practical work as you have to
perfectly plan out all the stuff you want to do in a confined amount of time.
Biting off more than you can chew means you have less time to finish and doing
too little makes it hard to do more. An example of this for me was the music
video. I found that I had planned too many shots and found myself running out of
time very quickly. This further lead to me having less time to edit and the
project felt rushed towards the end.
5. Which process do you think you have
made the most development in?
• My biggest progressions throughout the year have been production and research.
With the research side of things I feel I’ve developed an understanding on what
makes a good project in that category of media. For example, researching for my
FMP in comparison to an earlier project like the music video shows that I can get
a clearer understanding of techniques used and I give more reasoning as to how I
can incorporate it into my project. Overall production speed has increased in
comparison to the earlier projects like the music video as I gained more of an
understanding of software, time management and overall experience.
6. Which technical skill do you think is you
strongest?
• I feel my strongest area(s) directly corelates to my favourite things to do. I
personally believe camera work and photoshop are some of my stronger aspects as I
enjoy them the most and am actively wanting to learn more and progress. A project
that reflects this is the movie poster and advertisement poster for the adventure
project. This combines both camera work and photoshop and is some of my proudest
work. The clear camera shot for the magazine cover combined with the neon streaks
allows for a clean theme throughout with an emphasis on futuristic elements.
7. What do you think has been your best
project and why?
• I think my best project so far has been the audio project. The research and
planning depth allowed me to get a clear picture of what I wanted to make and
what the story was going to be. The draft and the final draft had a good
storyline and production went very smoothly as I could do a lot at home with the
good resources I had at home. Time management was never an issue and I had plenty
of time to evaluate and perfect the production at the end.
8. Which project did you enjoy least and
why?
My least favourite project was the second half of the adventure project and the
animation. I thought id enjoy the video game project more as its something I do a
lot in my spare time. I found most of the preproduction work fine but it got onto
the test product and the actual product and I found it very difficult and tedious.
Time management was a struggle as I found myself nearing the end of the project
with a still incomplete product. Overall enjoyment was low and I found myself
demotivated.
9. How have you managed your time
effectively this year?
• Over the course of the projects ive found my time management to be pretty good.
Certain projects I found harder than others due to overplanning and thinking I
can do more than I could. Music video was an example of a time I managed my time
well as I had my filming and edit done on the day I had originally planned. Most
of my projects have been the same but the one I struggled with the most was the
game design due to the difficulty and lack of work I did at home.
11. What roles/specialism do you see
yourself working in on future projects?
• I would like to work in the video area as a camera operator or maybe a
videographer. I feel some of my best work has been using cameras to take photos
and video. Examples of this would be the poster and magazine cover for the
adventure project and the music video.
12. What do you see yourself doing at the
end of the course next year?
• Im not entirely sure where id want to take myself after the end of next year. I
feel uni is an option but ive also seen a lot of good looking apprenticeships and
other courses I could take to go straight into the industry.
13. What research do you need to do in order to
explore your future progression options?
• I think I need to look in depth at different unis and courses that they offer to
try and get to grips with where I see myself in the next few years. Id have to
look into apprenticeships even more as I don’t understand how id even approach to
get one. From my understanding, the apprenticeships I could get now are more what
im looking for rather than going to university.
Editor's Notes
Consider 2-3 specific practical parts of your work this year [e.g. filming or editing, etc] and discuss why these have been your favoured parts of the course so far
Think about the work that has been most challenging this year [try and be specific when talking about tasks] and how you responded to it?
A process would be research or planning or time management, it could be a combination. Talk about what it is, how you feel you’ve developed and where this was most evident in the year
This is a technical skill like filming, editing, photo manipulation, designing adverts or using Photoshop – think of an example that shows your strength
This is looking at how you see yourself specialising as we move into the FMP and into Year 2
