3. Research - strength
• During my research, I was mainly
focusing on what would make my film
scary but not obvious, and while I
observed the characteristics on the
horror/suspense movies that I liked,
what really helped me envision what
would be ideal for my movie was the
survey; I used my target audience,
people aged 16-19, to ask questions that
would help me make my final product
appealing.
This question was one of the most important ones in my research because this would tell
me what my audience mainly likes on a suspense film and so, depending on what they
answered, I would include it in my film so as to comply with my audience preferences.
The strength of my research here is that this part was very important for me to understand
my public and without it, my finished product could end up being totally incompatible with
my target audience, consequently making my film a fail, as I did not fulfil my goal.
4. Research - strength
• This question was also very important
for my research because differently
from the question on the previous slide,
this question would tell me what to
avoid when doing my film so that it
wouldn’t be boring. For this question I
analysed the common cliches we see in
horror and suspense movies, and I
gathered the main ones in this question
so that my audience could tell me what
tings they are tired o seeing in these
films
Based on the answers on this question I could tell that jump scares was the main cliché
people were used to, and so, I would make sure not to include it in my film, so when they
watched it, they wouldn’t have the impression that my film was predictable.
The strength of my research here is that it helped me understand what would make my
film boring and predictable and what I had to avoid so that my finished product would be
appealing to my target audience.
5. Research - strength
• The existing product part of my research
was also important, because it helped me
understand what elements were often used
on a successful film of this genre, an I could
use that information to, where possible,
apply these things to my own film and so
make it appealing to my target audience.
• What all these films had in common, and it
was also something that I used on my own
film, was the fact that the main character is
betrayed by someone they trusted, and
because of that, these existing products
matched the idea of my film and helped me
improve the concept of my film.
I also observed the way these films where filmed and edited, and it showed me that they like to use
low angle shots to make the killer seem bigger and more dangerous and they also like to use a darker
filter on the scenes they want to create tension, that combined with sound effects, make an ideal
scary atmosphere.
The strength of my research here was that the research on existing products helped me understand
what techniques were successful so that I could use them in my own film.
6. Research - weakness
The interview I did was very basic, and the answers I got were not complex, making this
part of my research very weak and not actually useful. Had I asked better questions, and
gotten longer answers, it would have been a good opportunity to analyse on a closer level
what my audience really liked and used that on my film.
To make this interview useful, I should have planned better my questions to be something
that would actually be useful for me and my project; had I done that better, my final
product would be much more comprehensive of my audience’s preferences.
7. Research - weakness
• Two other weaknesses on my planning were the target audience profile and the
audience research. The target audience profile was very weak because I didn’t had a
clear vision of specifics for my audience and because of that my target audience profile
was very basic and not very informative. Had I done a better use of that part, I could
have used the psychographic and demographic info gathered in that slide to include
elements that were appealing my audience.
Similarly to the target audience
profile, my audience research was
also weak; even though I researched
and looked through graphs, I think
my analysis of them were superficial
and not detailed enough. If I had
done a deeper and more complex
analysis of the graphs I could have
been able to better understand
where my audience’s interest lie in
terms of spendings and used that to
add elements in my props to my final
product that were appealing to my
audience.
8. Planning - strength
• One of the strengths on my planning was the fact that I had a lot of backup
plans in case any aspect of my original plan went wrong; I had backup
locations, equipment, software, crew and cast. For equipment, if I needed
a camera and tripod, my friend has a good camera and tripod that I could
use anytime and for editing, I have a good spare computer at home; for
software, I have DaVinci at home, which is similar to Premiere Pro and so
if I needed to use it, I wouldn’t have much trouble; for cast and crew,
although I was sure I wouldn’t need it, I had other friends that were able
to film as well if I needed. This is a strength because this part of my
planning was important to make sure my production wouldn’t be
interrupted if a had a problem with something that I needed, because I
had a backup.
9. Planning - strength
Another strength on my planning was my
storyboard; I did a detailed storyboard to
help me visualize what would happen in
each scene, and this was very important to
help me remember exactly what I wanted
to do in each scene when I was filming.
This helped me because, on the day I was
filming, I kept forgetting what each scene
was supposed to be or I’d confused about
the order; because I had the storyboard
with me, I was able to check which scene
needed to be done next and the order.
This helped the final product because,
without it, it was very possible I could’ve
made a mistake filming that I then had no
time to fix and my finished product could
be ruined.
10. Planning - weakness
• A weakness on my planning that disturbed my
production a little bit was the camera shots. I had
a table for the type of shot I had planned for each
scene, however, when filming, I realized that for
technical issues and lack of attention, most of
those weren’t actually suitable for the scene.
Because of it, I had to improvise the camera shots
to whatever looked better through the camera at
the time I filmed. If I had made a detailed table
containing scene descriptions and thought well
about which type of shot would be better suited
for the scene, that would have made the process
of filming, smoother and quicker, without
improvisations.
• Had I done that, my finished product would be
much more like I had planned and this is better
because I planned things for some scenes that
weren’t possible to do at the end, but could’ve
been if I planned it better.
11. Planning - weakness
• Another weakness on my planning were my costumes. This
is because I had planned to use light coloured clothes for
the main character in the beginning, and have it be darker
by the middle/end of the film; for the victim, I had planned
just one outfit that would also be light coloured. The
problem was that because I intended to soak these clothes
with fake blood, we needed clothes that we could dispose
of later, and to do that we could either buy clothes or use
clothes we already had but didn’t wear anymore; the
problem with that was that we didn’t have old clothes that
we could use, and we also did not have the money to buy
clothes to just throw them away after it. So instead of
changing outfits, both characters wore the same clothing
throughout the entire thing.
• To improve this I could have tried harder to find clothing
that we could use in the film, had I done that, I could have
created the effect that I wanted in the film indicating the
transition between victim and killer, that not only would
have created a red hearing but also made it more
interesting.
12. Time Management
• Managing my time on this project was something that was really difficult for me
because I had several personal problems that slowed me down and kept me from doing
my best on the first try. However, even with the many problems I had, I believe that I
managed my time somewhat well; I finished my production on time and didn’t have any
problems when editing my poster, I just a some minor problems when editing my video,
e.g. the footage kept turning black an white after clicking on it for no apparent reason.
• The only aspect of my project that I did not manage my time well is for some of the
written parts, I am not a fast writer and I was having problems understanding some
tasks, but even with the big delay on my part I still handed them all in, but a little bit
late.
• I believe my project would’ve been a lot better if I had more time to improve not only
the production, but the written part of it as well; this is because I can be very detailed if
I have time, and my project would benefit greatly from this.
• If I had more time, regarding production, I would spend some time experimenting with
special effects and filters because it was something that I did not explore much, as I
thought I wouldn’t have time to do it with all the other elements that I still needed to
do; in production, I’d also spend some more time exploring soundtracks and sound
effects, although I liked the ones I used, I just think I could have searched some more.
Regarding the written work, if I had more time, I would’ve taken my time and paid more
attention to detail, because I think that my written work lacked detail.

15. Technical Qualities
Comparing my work to the 2017 movie Happy Death Day it
is possible to see some similarities between them. First,
the most obvious similarity between them is the colour of
the title, both posters use bright red in the title to
foreshadow blood and death. Second, both posters feature
the movie villain in them, while on my poster the killer is
shown fully, in the second poster, it is only shown a small
reflection of the killer on the knife. Third, both posters use
blood in them, but while in the second poster the blood
stain is bigger and obvious, on my poster the blood stains
are more subtle; also on both posters the killer is shown
connected to the blood because of the closeness of their
image with the blood.
Lastly, both posters use elements from the film, for example, in my poster it is possible to see the murder
weapon (wine bottle), the camera and the yellow cardigan; while on the second poster, the poster itself looks
like a birthday cake and this is because the main character keeps getting killer on her birthday.
There are also some big differences between them, one of them being that while on my poster the focus is
on the picture of the victim and the killer, on the second poster the main focus lies on the birthday cake as
the entire poster is made to look like a birthday cake, the title and subtitle were made to look like icing as
well as the vignette. Another difference between them is that my poster gives lots of hints an spoilers of
what is in my film, while in the second poster there is very little to follow and it is made to make the poster
look more mysterious but still hinting elements in the movie.
16. Technical Qualities
Moving on to clips from both films, there are
similarities there too. First, it is possible to see that
on clips 2 and 3 blue undertones were used, not
only that, but also in both it was used while the
killer was on scene. Second and most important,
as shown in clips 3 and 4, in both films the victim
was murdered by someone they trusted, and also
in both films the killer is acting kind and innocent
to hide their guilt. Lastly, also shown on clips 3 and
4, there was the use of a light filter when the killer
is with the victim moments before killing them to
give a false sense of trust and safety.
However, there are some clear differences between them as well. First, as pointed out previously, on clips 2
and 3 there are blue undertones; the difference is that while on clip 2 the blue is used to highlight and give
intensity to the killer’s cold hearted actions, on clip 3 the blue is used to give a false sense of innocence.
Another difference is that while on Happy Death Day the killer know of their guilt and consciously try to kill the
main character, on my film the killer doesn’t know that her girlfriend is dead and that she was the one that
killed her. Lastly, on Happy Death Day, the murder of the main character was something that the killer had
planned beforehand, it was an intentional murder; while on my film, the killer murdered her girlfriend
accidentally, on a jealousy attack because she found her girlfriend was cheating on her.
21. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
I Like the use of fonts as it shows the genre really well. I also like the photography and
think that the image looks really nice.
I also like the attention to detail in the photo with the blood on the hand, face and
wine bottle.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
The title is a bit too small and it could maybe be bolder and bigger so it stands out
more.
22. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product? I liked the
implementation of the scary music, I feel like it set the
vibe and helped build up tension. I also liked the
creativity aspect of the camera angles and shots.
• What improvements could have been made to the
product? Not many improvements to be made in my
opinion just think the acting could potentially be
slightly better.
23. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
I like the blood effect on her head on the poster which I
assume was edited on as it does look real like it was already
there. I like the cinematic shot in the video where everything
goes bright and that loud noise plays in the background
• What improvements could have been made to the
product? I think the title could be made bigger in the poster
as it looks really good and could be seen easier.
24. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I agree with feedback 1 when they said the image looks really nice, and the
blood details look good, I also agree when they said the title could be bigger;
– I agree with feedback 2 when they said they liked the implementation of the
scary music to build up tension, I also agree that the acting could be better;
– I agree with feedback 3 when they said they liked the blood effect on the
character’s head, I also agree when they said the title could be bigger.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– The only thing I disagree is in feedback 1 when they say the title could be
bolder, I agree that the title could stand out more, however, with this
particular font, making the font bolder would make it deformed.
25. Peer Feedback Summary
– One of the main things said and mentioned by
most of them was the size of the title, after
reading the feedbacks and looking back at my
poster, I agree that the title should be bigger as it
doesn’t stand out like it should.
