You've heard it throughout the year: teamwork to make the dream work! Ever wonder how to make a team work? There is a big difference between a group and a team. Is your senate operating as a group or a team? We can help you find out. We will also do some team building exercises to make sure you are ready to take teambuilding back to your campus.
A bunch of ordinary people, delivering an extraordinary performance is termed as a high performing team. Creating a high performing team though, seems like a mammoth task – perhaps because such teams are very few and far between.
While there is no single silver bullet to construct such a team, one big measure that builds such synergy in a team is a culture of “No Surprises”. So, how do we create such a No-Surprises culture in an organization?
Building an effective team isn't as simple as waving a magic wand, but it is also not an overly difficult process. Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of individuals, the role each person plays in a team environment and how they complement each other are all contributing factors.
In this webinar, you will learn the components of an effective team, the importance of team communication and the role of leadership.
The supreme quality for leadership is unquestionably integrity. Without it, no real success is possible, no matter whether it is on a section gang, a football field, in an army, or in an office."- Dwight D. Eisenhower.

FOR POWERPOINT PRESENTATION
Stage 1: FORMING
• GROUP MEMBERS LOOK TO THE LEADER FOR DIRECTION.
• MEMBERS HAVE A DESIRE FOR ACCEPTANCE BY THE GROUP AND FITTING IN.
• MEMBERS ARE SIZING EACH OTHER UP – CHECKING OUT PERSONALITIES AND TALENTS OF OTHER MEMBERS.
• MEMBERS FOCUS THEIR DISCUSSION ON THE TASK AT HAND, NOT WORRYING ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS.
• FEELINGS GOING THROUGH MEMBERS INCLUDE INSECURITY, NERVOUSNESS. THEY ARE ASKING THEMSELVES “Do I belong?”, “Will I be accepted by the group?”
Stage 2: Storming
• THIS STAGE IS CHARACTERIZED BY TENSION, COMPETITION, AND CONFLICT AMONG GROUP MEMBERS.
• QUESTIONS ARISE ABOUT WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT AND WHAT THE RULES ARE.
• SOME MEMBERS MAY REMAIN SILENT WHILE OTHERS ATTEMPT TO DOMINATE.
• SOME MEMBERS QUESTION AUTHORITY AND COMPETENCY OF THE GROUP LEADER
• THE GROUP LEADER HAS TO RAISE THE CONFLICT ISSUE AND DEAL WITH IT.
Stage 3: Norming
• LEADERSHIP IS SHARED AND CLIQUES DISSOLVED.
• CONFLICTS ARE RESOLVED AND THERE IS A STRONGER SENSE OF BELONGING TO THE GROUP.
• CREATIVITY IS HIGH.
• PEOPLE KNOW WHERE THEY FIT IN AND WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THEM.
Stage 4: Performing
• NOW THE GROUP IS IN HIGH GEAR AND HIGHLY PRODUCTIVE. THE NEED FOR GROUP APPROVAL IS PAST.
• GROUP MEMBERS CAN NOW FOCUS ON THE TASK AND CARE FOR OTHER MEMBERS OF THE GROUP.
• GROUP IDENTITY IS COMPLETE, GROUP MORALE IS HIGH, AND GROUP LOYALTY IS INTENSE.
Stage 5: RE-FORMING
• THIS STAGE OCCURS WHEN THE TASKS ARE COMPLETED AND THERE NO LONGER IS A NEED FOR THE GROUP TO EXIST.
• THIS STAGE INCLUDES RECOGNITION FOR PARTICIPATION (AWARDS) AND AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GROUP MEMBERS TO SAY GOOD BYE. (CLOSURE)
• WITH THE DISSOLVING OF THE GROUP, NEW LEADERS ARE NEEDED TO TAKE ON THE NEW TASKS, SO A NEW GROUP FORMS.

Another essential function of leadership is encouraging team spirit. There is a saying that if you have a handful of dry grass you can use each individual blade to sweep a floor but it is much more effective to combine them into a brush. In the same way individual employees working alone, however motivated they might be, are nowhere as effective as when they work as a team.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

stands for
• Values - provides the 'rightness' of the Vision
• Leadership - provides focus, courage and empowerment
• Clear Expectations - allows trust delegation and self
appraisal
• Teamwork - creates consistency and utilizes collegial
creativity and intelligence

Bruce Hammonds
3. Creating A Learning
Community
• Establishing trust results in open communication, mutual
respect for people and opinions, and an eagerness to
participate.
• Developing common beliefs and attitudes will help create
productive teams which experience less conflict.
• Empowering team members will help them feel more
ownership in decisions that are made and more
responsibility in carrying out those decisions.
• Effective meeting management will improve the quality of
the meetings and of the decisions that are made.
• Providing feedback about team functioning is essential for
the team to improve its effectiveness.
4. Establish Trust.
• It is difficult to trust someone you do not know and
impossible to work collaboratively with someone you do
not trust.
• Trust affects all aspects of human behavior and is
especially evident in team work.
• When there is trust among team members, it is evident
in the way they treat each other.
• Trust among team members results in open communication, a
mutual respect for people and opinions, and a willingness
(even eagerness) to participate.
• Trust helps team members to see conflict both as inevitable
and as constructive.
5. Building Trust
• Trust builds slowly as people share parts
of themselves with others.
• Trust is crucial to the success of a team
and increases proportionately as the team
moves through the developmental stages.
• Trust must exist before there can be
honest feedback.
6. Develop Common Beliefs
and Attitudes.
• Effective teams must develop common beliefs
and attitudes.
• Less conflict will occur and a more productive
team will be developed if this unity of purpose
is created.
• An effective team needs to have a shared
understanding of the school's vision.
Conversations about the school vision are
essential for a team to develop a common
understanding.
7. Empower Team
Members
• Every team member should feel the
group has the knowledge and authority
to make important decisions.
• Team members must also be prepared to
assume responsibility for the decisions
that they make.
• Empowerment require that team
members assume various leadership
roles.
8. Empowerment
• reflect on empowerment and have
them share a story describing a
situation in which they felt
empowered. After everyone has had
a chance to reflect, ask each member
to list attributes of empowerment.
10. Provide Feedback About
Team Functioning
• Feedback is one of the best ways to
improve the effectiveness and
functioning of a team. Time should be
scheduled at the conclusion of each team
meeting for the team to reflect and
evaluate its performance. The group
members need to process how well they
did on achieving their task, as well as
how well they did interpersonally
