Weaknesses of Incremental Risk Charge Model Under BCBS s approval, banks are expected to
improve their own IRC models to calculate risks for individual positions or sets of positions
(BCBS, 2009b). It means the Committee hopes banks will have their own choice of liquidity
horizon which is appropriate with their business without any issued industry benchmarks or
standards (Stretton, 2011). However, it leads to inconsistence within banking system. Furthermore,
supervisors have to face with more difficulties in process of evaluating banks IRC model. Although
IRC helps bank to capture risks more effectively, especially when market and credit risks collide,
there is a significant weakness still be existing. It is the overlap of counterparty credit risk
cooperated with over the counters (OTC) and repo style transactions between IRC and CVA
(Stretton, 2011). As a consequence, it will lead to duplicate capital charge for the banks.
Suggested by Linsz (2010) the corporate Treasurer of Bank of America, the Committee should
apply an integrated approach to combine the overlapping risks by deleting the risk above in IRC
model, hence build up more accurate capital charge for banks. In fact, Bank of America thinks
duplicated capital charge is inappropriate with risk management practices (Linsz, 2010). 3.
Effectiveness of Incremental Risk Charge Model According to BCBS (2009b), IRC model mainly
compounds two types of risks: default risk and credit migration risk. The origin

Moral Skepticism About Mental Disorders
Jason Perrin Phil/Psy 345 Moral Skepticism Final Draft December 2, 2014 Moral Skepticism
about Mental Disorders The existence of mental disorders, while taken for granted by most
people, is disputed by moral skeptics. Moral skepticism is the view that mental disorders do not
exist and that it is wrong to label someone as having a mental disorder. In his book, The
Disordered Mind, George Graham discusses moral skepticism at great length and offers his
contrasting viewpoint. In this essay, I will discuss Graham s view of moral skepticism and
contrast that with the views of one of moral skepticism s greatest proponents, Thomas Szasz. I
will also elaborate on my own personal views of moral skepticism in an attempt to unify these two
opposing theories of mental disorder. Moral antirealism/skepticism, as a concept of mental
disorder, is dismissed but not totally rejected by George Graham, as he does concede that there
might be lessons to be learned from it. The moral antirealist subscribes to the belief that no
condition should be labeled as a mental disorder. They might agree that someone is experiencing an
unwelcome condition, that may or may not require outside assistance to overcome, but that does
not mean they have a disorder or illness. They believe that in order to help someone suffering from
a mental disturbance and to treat them with the most respect, we need to replace the concept of
mental disorder with something less stigmatizing. Graham disagrees with this

Economic Development Office For The State Of Texas
The summer of 2014, I interned at the Economic Development Office for the state of Texas. The
office was tasked with preparing relocation incentives for companies in order to create jobs. The
office was split into different departments totaling about 45 people. The office worked strictly under
the Governor. One would answer the phone, Office of the Governor, Economic Development...
Economic Development offices around the country came under repetitive criticism for behaving
as governors slush funds. Essentially there are clear lines of imperative control from superior
offices. The office was responsible for overseeing the economic development of the whole state.
In other ways, the office directly contrasted Weber s definition. Since the office was able to
distribute funds and abate taxes, it made incredible financial decisions for companies and the
taxpayers of the state. Awards could not be given out based on a specific set of rules. There was
careful consideration into a companies intentions, how they were prepared for the future, and if
they fit the new model of businesses Texas wanted to attract. In this regard, the office did not
always make systematic decisions. Those promoted were the best performing, most ambitious, and
took initiative; only residue of a seniority system remained. A meritocracy, in direct opposition to a
tenured hierarchy, opened a dichotomy between the older and younger generations. Under
performers were let go regardless of tenure. On a

Neil Gorsuch Originalism
Judge Neil Gorsuch is President Donald Trump s selection to fill the Supreme Court seat that was
left open a year ago by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. Gorsuch graduated from Columbia,
Harvard and Oxford, was a clerk for two Supreme Court justices and worked for a period of time at
the Department of Justice. He attended Harvard Law with former President of the United States
Barack Obama. Gorsuch has served on the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, in Colorado since 2006.
Gorsuch is a person who adheres strictly to a text, also known as a textualist. He supports the legal
philosophy of originalism, which was made popular by the late Justice Antonin Scalia, whom
Gorsuch would replace on the court. Originalism embraces the idea that the constitution ... Show

statement that I will vote to confirm him to be the ninth justice on the Supreme Court. Supreme
Court jurists should have an extensive career in law, a record of upholding the Constitution in their
rulings, an established judicial philosophy, and an appropriate temperament. Throughout Judge
Gorsuch s career, he has come to his legal rulings objectively, through the letter of the law rather
than through his own opinion. Under current Senate rules, Gorsuch would need to be confirmed
with 60 votes, but the threat of filibuster during Gorsuch s confirmation hearing has led for
Republicans, including Senator Lindsey Graham, to call on Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to
invoke the nuclear option that would allow Gorsuch to be confirmed by a simple majority

Evolution theories have been around for a long time. There have also been a lot of old and young
Earth creationism arguments. These theories and arguments are discussed in this paper.
ATHEISTIC EVOLUTION
Atheistic evolution can be defined as a belief that everything was created without any supernatural
phenomenon (God). Atheistic evolution is thus basically the opposite of theistic evolution. One of

According to Exodus 20:11 : For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea,
and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day
and hallowed it. This verse is found in the middle part of the TРµn CommandmРµnts. God told
the Israelites that the reason they had to work six days and rest on the seventh day, is because
He created everything and rested on the seventh day. It is thus not realistic to think we have to
work for six long periods (millions of years) and rest for another long period. The Bible also states
that Jesus woke up three days after his crucifixion, which could not mean millions of years.
Meredith Kline, from Westminster Theological Seminary proposed that Genesis should be
interpreted metaphorically and not literally like most of us do. Old Earth creationists believe that
scientific evidence cannot be overlooked. Scientists use the method of radiometric aging from
meteorite material to determine the age of Earth. Fossils were found that are much older than a few
thousand years, for example dinosaurs.
PERSONAL VIEW
I personally believe in biblical evolution. Science has an explanation for how life is evolving but
does not have a valid explanation of how life initially began, that is where science and Christianity
are compatible. Christianity can

The Conflict Between Social Morality Towards Child Labor...
This poem addresses the conflict between social morality towards child labor and the realization
that the elite have influenced societies ways. As the original speaker in the poem sees something
black in the snow and approaches the object, it turns out to be a young chimneysweeper crying all
alone. Once the speaker has approached the cries, the poem then transitions to a different speaker
who is the young chimneysweeper expressing their perception towards their situation, which is
being involved in child labor and how the sweepers parents along with a prominent source such as
God, Priest Kings (12). bypass the morality of forced labor on the young. In the first quatrain stanza
it introduces dialogue between the original speaker and the sweeper. You can see there is dialogue
approaching because of the punctuations and quotations used within the stanza. Not only does the
punctuation give the reader the idea that another person is involved, but the traditional rhyme
schemeAA, BB in the first stanza makes the conversation flow smoothly. The first stanza is the
only stanza with rhyming couplets that pairs the two speakers together identifying that both lines
back to back is the same person speaking. A little black thing among the snow / Crying weep,
weep, in notes of woe! (1 2). The first two lines show the rhyming coupletas the same speaker. The
original speaker who has come across the young child is concerned. Where are thy father mother?

Stricter Dress Code
Dress codes have always been taken into great consideration, but now they are becoming an
immense part of school requirements. For years, some schools have created stricter dress code
rules, while others have made more accessible rules. Part of the administration considers shaping a
stricter dress code, but others disagree. Yes, students should continue to make smart choices about
their clothing, but a stricter dress codewould only result in more problems. We should have our
original dress code remain and not make any changes to it because it would restrict students from
expressing their feelings, and some dress code rules can be sexist toward girls.
To begin with, for people of all ages, fashion is a way that they can easily express

Analysis Of Silent Spring By Rachel Carson
Jaanavi Selvaraj
Hitchens Pd 8
Silent Spring
Everyday, all around the world, people and animals enjoy the simple pleasures that nature brings
them. But in the past, excessive pesticide use by farmers has changed the quality of the
environment for the worse. Rachel Carson, American scientist, author, and conservationist, fought
against this ridiculous act for many years. In her 1962 book, Silent Spring, Carson considers that if
farmers continue to apply generous amounts of pesticides, the spring season will eventually become
dead quiet due to all the extinct animals. By discussing the consequences of these pesticides on the
environment, wildlife, and humans, Carson encourages the public to take necessary action to
prevent the dangers of pesticide application.
In an attempt to evoke a desire in the public to conserve their environment, Carson shares how the
pesticides negatively affect the environment. By saying that the vegetation coated with lethal film,
Carson convinces the audience that the crops they purchase from farmers are dangerously deadly.
To prevent themselves from danger, people are motivated to change farmers actions for safer
vegetation. Additionally, the farmers treat an area of river bottomland with parathion, ruining the
river, along with the public s ecosystem. Likewise, people are more likely to fight for something
that directly affects them, as the application of pesticide does. To further support her argument,
Carson informs the readers of the growing trend toward aerial applications of such deadly poisons
such as parathion. Carson s casual language emphasizes the normalcy of a disastrous situation that
hurts the environment. By commenting on the public dangers of pesticide application, Carson
further develops her argument that environmental reform is a necessity.
By speaking to the effects the pesticides have on wildlife, Carson reinforces the idea that public
action needs to take place to save the animal population. Carson mentions that the pesticides
casualty list included some 65,000 red winged blackbirds and starlings. Carson s militaristic
language emphasizes the seriousness and urgency of the topic, drawing the public s attention.
Moreover, uninvolved animals such as

Lutheranism
Lutheranism
After extensive research on the subject of Lutheranism it has been made clear that lutheranism was
a product of Martin Luther, hence the name Lutheranism . There are five major branches of
protestantism, Lutheranism is one of those major branches. 140 Lutheran churches are scattered
among the world, but only 138 of them are loosely connected to the LWF (Lutheran World
Federation). The word Lutheran started popping up about 1519. In the 1600s Lutheranism became
an official religion, and German cities began adopting it.
On October 31, 1517 Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses as a challenge to the practices of the
Roman Catholic Church, wishing to reform the practices he felt were wrong. People who agreed
with Luther became the first Lutherans. ...Lutherans still uphold Luther s theological teachings

According to Martin Luther God tries and causes troubles to test your morality and loyalty, and
if you go against his word he will forgive you with repentance. They also believe in angels and
the Devil. Sound familiar? Their belief system sounds like a lot of christian denominations, in fact
even the way to get to heaven is the same. Baptism is done to show that they are now pure, again,
the same as baptist and catholics. There are also many scriptures that are tweaked, with names
/places being changed, that are very similar to the bible.
One of Luther s principles was that anything not specified in the bible as forbidden was acceptable.
In many other christian churches and religions they have a radius that covers what is mentioned in
the bible. The Lutherans also didn t allow anything that wasn t mentioned in a scripture, like organs
or hymns. In the church there is a sacrament of communion, a pulpit, and a preacher that delivers a
sermon, much like a baptist church minus the sacrament of

Essay Colorado Marijuana Legalization
Marijuana in the United States has been a big issue for decades dating back to when it was first
made illegal in 1937. Using scare tactics, propaganda, and false facts, the government decided to
classify the plant as a schedule one drug along with substances such as ecstasy, LSD, and heroin.
Marijuana has since become a more common and socially acceptable (Not by the government)
drug in recent years. This past year Colorado, Washington, and Oregon had decided to vote on the
issue of legalizing marijuana for recreational use. Focusing on Colorado, Amendment 64 passed on
November 6th, 2012 which would legalize the possession of up to an ounce of the plant.

With 520 physicians from Colorado taking the survey, 46% said they would not recommend
prescribing the plant to patients, while only 19% said they would recommend it. When asked
about continuing research, Nearly all agreed on the need for further medical education about
medical marijuana. With 91% agreeing that it should be explored deeper, it shows that many
people don t actually know the truth of how helpful or harmful marijuana can be. There is one
big problem about the testing of marijuana; the government still classifies it as illegal. They
refuse to put it down to a schedule two drug along with cocaine and morphine which they
classify as having medical value. Maia Szalavitz of Time magazine compared the addiction rate
of marijuana users against tobacco and other hard drugs. She stated, Marijuana is much less
addictive, coming in at 9% to 10%. In contrast, 23% to 25% of heroin users get addicted, along
with 15% of alcohol users and 15% to 20% of those who use cocaine. Nicotine in cigarettes
addicts about up to 30% of those who smoke, along with being more harmful to the body
according to Robert Melamede. Marijuana seems like it would be a legitimate candidate for
medicinal use country wide when compared to alcohol which is legal, cocaine, and morphine
which have accepted medical use but also can be more harmful to the user. But aside from medical
and recreational uses, the benefits for the states that legalize it can be enormous.

Army Slowly Advanced Into The Forest
Nightburn s army slowly advanced into the forest. Their retreat was purposely slow. It would
enable the enemy scouts to see where they had gone and report to Duke Gashard. Gashard s army
advanced on them quickly, perhaps, only an hour s time, before they would overtake them.
Nightburn s army passed through the forest, fully aware that Gashard s army would shortly be
upon them. They had increased the speed of their withdrawal once they entered the forest and were
now almost at a full run. Nightburn reigned in his horse as Sir Faine came barreling toward him
from his left and met him.
Are the archers in position? He shifted in his saddle, looking back as his troops continued to run
passed, to view the tail end of his troops retreat. They were almost clear of the forest, and so far
everything was going as planned.
Yes, my Lord. Sir Faine replied, also satisfied with the progress of the troops.
Who s the officer with them?
Lieutenant Gustav and he understands what s expected of him.
Nightburn nodded and both rode off quickly, urging the men to an even faster pace. Gashard s
army had advanced quickly and most had already entered the forest of Catahclisum. They had cut
the time of encounter in half and Duke Gashard was very pleased. He could not wait to get his
hands on Lord Nightburn. After all the years, he now would have his revenge. Gashard s first
lieutenant rode up quickly and settled in beside him, speaking quickly and obviously upset, My

Network Theory Information Flow Based Theory And Control...
Cyber physical systems:
Abstract: Security is one of the important aspect in deciding the reliability of any system and Cyber
Physical systems cannot be ruled out from this important issue. In this paper we investigate the
security issues in CPS, enforcing sensor network theory information flow based theory and control
theory in CPS which are the three primary approaches to system security policies and mechanisms.
In brief we will categorize attacks based on these three primary approaches and also discuss some
of the mitigations to inflate the growth of CPS in terms of security.
What is a Cyber Physical system:
CPS is a well integrated computational and physical process, which sense the physical world
interact with the physical world and control the entities pertaining to the physical world. It is the
amalgamation of communication computation and control. CPS perform their activities in such a
way that their behavior is constrained by the laws of physics.
According to David A Mindell, The era of cyberspace and the internet, with its emphasis on
computer as a communication device and as a vehicle for human interactions connect to a longer
history of control systems that generated computers as networked communication device.
The commerce, entertainment and friendship these three different subjects from history has taught
us three basic lessons
1.Cyber system should be a part of systems design.
2.Cyber System is a support service that should not hinder usability

Fast Food Nation By Eric Schlosser
Meat Packers or Criminals Slaughter houses started in urban areas close to the railroads and
shipping ports. Cattle and other livestock arrived by railroad. After the animals were slaughtered,
they would be shipped to meat counters around the country and overseas. In his book Fast Food
Nation, Eric Schlosser writes about the changes in the meatpackingindustry. Among those changes,
Schlosser explains, Iowa Beef Packers (IBP) changed the entire meatpacking industry by turning
the business of slaughtering animals into an assembly line. Meatpacking no longer requires
skilled workers because each employee is only responsible for one small part of the whole;
therefore, training an employee is easy and inexpensive (153). The meat packing... Show more

The top four meatpacking businesses hold 20 percent of the nation s cattle in company owned
feedlots or cattle bought before hand, sometimes using secret pricing contracts (138). These farmers
are doing everything they can to make a living. This includes rotation practices that big companies
would never care about. Small business today is changing from a mentality of all success and
forget about the consequences; to a more earth friendly thought process that asks how the company
can do business longer. Schlosser writes, the small rancher today has more in common with
environmentalist than they do with huge cattle lots and meat packers (134). Small ranchers invest
in the land and need to preserve it to continue just making a living not a profit. Schlosser explains,
Hank was practicing a form of range management inspired by the grazing patterns of elk and
buffalo herds, animals who d lived for millennia on this short grass prairie. His ranch was divided
into thirty five separate pastures. His cattle spent ten or eleven days in one pasture, then were
moved to the next, allowing the native plants, the blue grama and buffalo grass, time to recover
(134).

William Blake And The Divine Image Essay
William Blake, a transitional figure in British literature, was the first romantic poet to focus on
content instead of form. Blake is one of the great mystics of the world, like Henry More and
Wordsworth; he lived in a world of glory, of spirit and of vision, which, for him, was the only real
world. His devotion to God expresses through his lyrical poetrycollection Songs of Innocence and
Songs of Experience. This collection contains 51 poems where the poems of Innocence are
counter part of the poems of Experience. The Lamb , The Divine Image and are poems from Songs
of Innocence and The Tyger, The Sick Rose and The Human Abstract are poems from Songs of
Experience. Blake s poetry can easily be interpreted by the theory of New Criticism that attempts
to treat each work as its own distinct piece, free from its environment, era, and even author.
Poetry is one of the most useful expressions of a mystic s inner experiences. By nature Blake, a
mystic is able to access a state of consciousness that is beyond the usual awareness of humanity.
This paper will give a glimpse to its readers about Blake s poetic vision on world, its connection
with God along with a clear concept that unconsciously his lyrics maintain the theory of new critics
who give more importance to close analysis of form, literary devices, and technique of a text.
Blake, English painter poet, has been the subject of many scholarly works since the end of the
Nineteenth Century. Not until the Twentieth

facilities or EMM helps with tracking inventory, such as medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and
others. These applications help to improve quality in the health care facility or services at FMHC.
It helps managers keep accurate data to make sure doctors have the right information on patients

Salary Caps In Sports Research Paper
Salary caps in sports
Many people grow up having the dream of being rich in sports. They practice as hard as they can,
and If they are just good enough then they get to play professionally. They don t realize how much
work and how much really goes on whenever they are a star athlete. The athletes in professional
sports should get paid what they deserve while playing professionally.
Salary caps are not what they should have in professional sports. They limit how much the team
can pay their players. Salary caps aren t very fair to the players who play and have the risk of
getting hurt each time they play. It puts more money in the owner s pockets and not enough
money in the players. I get how salary caps could help keep everyone who is a player

The Denver International Airport Conspiracy Theory
Picture a place with murals portraying destruction and catastrophe, a system of an underground city,
inexplicable construction and excavation, and runways formed in the shape of a swastika. This
place is a place many people are in right now: The Denver International Airport. The Denver
International Airport has many serious and questionable characteristics such as unexplainable
symbols, images, and stories inside and outside of the airport which lead to the conclusion that the
Denver International Airportis the headquarters for the New WorldOrder.
The whole airport is full of signs that lead to the belief of it being controlled by the New World
Order but many people don t know who or what the New World Order is. The intentions of the
New World Order are to have complete and total control over every human being on the planet
and to dramatically reduce the world s population by two thirds. We will have a world
government whether you like it or not. The only question is whether that government will be
achieved by conquest or consent, Peter Warburg, a German born American banker, testified this
before the US Senate on February 17, 1950 (Peter Warburg). He was referring to the goals of the
New World Order. The Denver International Airport is where the New World Order members

The term ``case method has come to refer to a wide range of teaching styles and objectives that
can be adopted within the use of case studies for teaching (Dooley and Skinner, 1977). It has been
proposed that the case method can be used to: . gain illustration of particular points, issues or
managerial principles; . provide managers with a neutral situation in which they are free to explore
problems (because they are not their own); . relate theory to practice; . confront the complexities of
specific situations; . develop analysis and synthesis; . develop self analysis, attitudes, confidence,
responsibility; . develop interpersonal skills, communication and listening; and . develop judgement
and wisdom and enliven teaching. The method may gain the student s intellectual and emotional
involvement and assist the long term retention of understanding and bring realism into instructional
settings (Romm and Mahler, 1991; Osigweh, 1989; Smith, 1987; Christensen and Hansen, 1987;
Dooley and Skinner, 1977). The case method is not without its limitations. Cases may be limited in
the extent to which they present the realities of an organization. Yin (1989) comments that a case
need not reflect a complete or accurate rendition of actual events; its purpose is to establish a
framework for discussion among students. Similarly Towl (1969) describing case writing at

Moors In Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights , one of Emily Bronte s classics, takes place primarily in two different locations,
Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. The first of the locations, the Wuthering Heights
homestead, is the less fabulous of the two and quite frankly could be considered as a part of the
moors, whilst Thrushcross Grange is an extravagant housing estate which oozes wealth. In this
essay, each location will be further explained and furthermore the significance of the locations
within the narrative will be dealt with.
Firstly, if we were to look at the word wuthering , one would see that it generally means wild,
exposed or storm blown. If we were again to focus on the word wuthering , one might be able to

On the contrary, Thrushcross Grange has crimson covered chairs and tables..., pure white ceiling[s]
and a chandelier of glass drops hanging in silver chain from the centre (Page 23). These
descriptions of the inside of the Thrushcross Grange help the reader to imagine the absolute beauty
of the house which is thus given a homely feel. These differences might help the reader to, again,
see the split in social and economic class when they are studying the inhabitants of Wuthering
Heights against those of Thrushcross Grange.
Wuthering Heights is much more associated with the moors than Thrushcross Grange. The Heights
seems to have an isolated feeling within them and the house seemingly takes on gothic elements.
These elements help portray the house in a more haunting way, which seems appropriate once we
become aware of certain other aspects that happen on the grounds, such as Heathcliff s visions and
actions. The same isolated feeling may also symbolize the social distance between the inhabitants of

The Effects Of Cattle Consumption On Human Health, And...
Raising cattle for consumption has an increasingly negative impact on both human health, and
environmental health. The largest environmental impact from food comes from the production and
consumption of meat and dairy products; the estimated greenhouse gas emission (GHGE) is 50%.
(Biesbroek et al, 2014). Meat and dairy products also supply about one third of the dietary energy
intake and are major sources of saturated fatty acids in the diet. The more saturated fat you

Rumen Gases
Of all ruminant animal types, (cattle, goats, and sheep), beef and dairy cattle are by far the largest
emitters of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. As part of their digestive process, cows produce
methane. An average cow in North America, which includes beef cows, bulls, calves, growing
steers/heifers, and feedlot cattle, eructs via belching 117 pounds (53 kilograms) of methane (CH4)
per head per year, according to 2006 guidelines from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change.
The ruminant animal is unique because of its four stomach compartments: reticulum, rumen,
omasum and abomasum. The function of the rumen as a fermentation vat and the presence of
certain bacteria promote the development of gases. These gases are found in the upper part of the
rumen with CO2 and CH4 making up the largest portion (Table 1).
The proportion of these gases is dependent on rumen ecology and fermentation balance. Typically,
the proportion of carbon dioxide is two to three times that of CH4, although a large quantity of
CO2 is reduced to CH4. The eructation of gases via belching is important in bloat prevention but is
also the way CH4 is emitted into the atmosphere. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change (IPCC), methane is more than 20 times as effective as CO2 at trapping heat in the
atmosphere/ global warming potential. The U.S.

Much of this comes from outside sources, knowing the government is weak and easily bought.
The government itself is easily bought by whoever can provide the most money, thus leading to a

On August 10, 1874, in West Branch, Iowa the future 31st president was born. Herbert Hoover
grew up in a small Quaker village in Iowa and his father, Jesse Hoover, was one of the village
blacksmiths and merchants and was very well known. Hulda Randall Minthorn Hoover, his

In the role of being the Secretary Commerce, Hoover encouraged the formation of trade
associations, and was an advocate for farmers, and was really interested in seeking overseas
markets for American businesses so they would have more success. When Hoover was secretary
of commerce one thing really made him stand out. In 1927, the Mississippi River flooded, which
left 350,000 people with nowhere to live and most of them didn t have the resources to survive.
Hoover was very influential in making sure the families that were affected by the flood were taken
care of with food, clothing, and housing. With such care and respect for the families that lost
everything, this publicity made him one of the most famous secretary of commerce the U.S. has
ever seen. Because of his success, in 1928 Hoover was nominated and elected president of the

couldn t be better; U.S. businesses were growing, manufactured goods and raw materials scattered
throughout the United States to the rest of the world, and technology was developing at an
impressive and a reasonably fast rate.(Benson) After being nominated and elected president of the

Integration Of Proxy Model With Enkf Algorithms For Time...
Methodology
This section contains the mathematical background and stepwise procedure for EnKF algorithm,
KL expansion and ANN based proxy model. Integration of proxy model with EnKF algorithms for
time efficient assisted history matching is also explained in this section. Ensemble Kalman Filter
Algorithm
EnKF is a Monte Carlo data assimilation method, which has gained popularity over recent years
for assisted history matching due to its ability to include available observations sequentially in
time. Aanonsen et al. (2009) reviewed the application of EnKF in reservoir engineering for
estimation of reservoir parameters. EnKF procedure utilizes an ensemble of model states (e.g.
realizations of reservoir properties such as porosity and permeability) to estimate the covariance
matrices used in model updating process. Initial ensemble is generated based on the prior
knowledge of the reservoir derived from various sources as well logs, core and seismic analysis. In
general, simulation techniques such as Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS) and Sequential
Indicator Simulation (SIS) are used to generate multiple realizations. These realizations are
consistent with the initial state of the reservoir. In the next step, all the reservoir models in
ensemble are forwarded typically using the numerical reservoir simulation. Mean and covariance of
predicted model states is calculated and used in turn to calculate Kalman gain. Next, in the update
(or analysis) step, each geological

Quantitative Arbitrage Trading Strategy Analysis
Many financial instruments have exhibited mean reversion, such as US and global equities [1],
commodities [2], foreign exchange rates [3] as well as volatility indices [19]. Moreover, some
researchers have also found mean reverting process to be very useful in modeling the interest rate
and default risk dynamics [20]. In financial industry, some practitioners even attempt to profit by
constructing mean reverting prices which are usually known as statistical arbitrageor pair trading.
Statistical arbitrage is a more sophisticated trading strategy that evolved out of the simpler pairs
trade strategy [4]. In the pairs trading, two highly correlated stocks are put into pairs and when one
stock outperforms the other, we short this stock and long the other stock. Unlike the pair trading,
Statistical arbitrage usually considers a basket of hundreds or more stocks, long in some and short
in others, in order to construct a mean reversion portfolio.
The pairs/statistical arbitrage trading strategies have gained great popularity with the invention of
exchange traded funds (ETFs), as some ETFs are created to track the underlying indexes/assets.
The mean reverting spreads among commodity ETFs have already been investigated and the
trading strategies have been developed for statistical arbitrage [21]. Moreover, the mean reverting
spread between physical gold price and gold ETFs has also been investigated [22].
Given the dynamics of the underlying portfolio or assets, investors have to

The novel Winesburg, Ohio by Sherwood Anderson has many themes that present themselves
throughout the book. One such recurring theme is a search for truth. The characters in the book do
not fully realize that they are searching for truth, but they do feel a vague, indescribable thing that
pushes and prods their minds to actualize a higher plane of thought. This search for a higher plane
by the characters of Winesburg nearly parallels another literary work of ancient Greek origin Plato

Life for the prisoners goes on this way without occurrence until one of them is freed, led up
outside the cave, and shown the real world. The freed person will realize that the truth of the
shadowed reality is actually a falsehood. After this realization the person who visited the upper
world is returned to imprisonment in the cave. Her eyes have to adjust to the darkness of the cave
once again. However, this adjustment naturally takes a long time. As a result, the once free person
can no longer see the shadows as well as she did before her release into the upper world. To the
people who have remained in the cave, it seems as though going into the upper world has
destroyed her faculty for seeing reality. Some of the captives then say that trying to reach the outer
world is harmful, and that anyone caught trying to loose themselves or another person for the
purpose of reaching the outside will be punished. Plato says that the cave symbolizes the world of
sight and the outside represents the world of knowledge. Plato also instructs people to interpret the
journey upwards to be the ascent of the soul into the intellectual world. Plato s belief is that in the
world of knowledge the idea of good appears, and that humans should strive to reach this goodness
through philosophical thought.

In this essay we will discuss the four different phases of the soft tissue healing process and also
explain all the components of each particular phase and how it functions. This will also include
sport therapeutic interventions that may contribute to the healing process and that may maximise

First Phase Bleeding
This particular phase is immediate and depending on the vascularity of the tissue that is damaged
although it only happens during the first few hours as demonstrated by (Watson, 2006) in this
illustration of the length of each phase.
The bleeding occurs following trauma to the tissue this could be an overload of a tissue or even
external force. One of the bodies first initial haemodynamic responses to bleeding is
vasoconstriction which narrows the blood vessels causing decreased blood velocity, in 2008
(Watson) states that this is due to the release of noradrenaline(norepinephrine); the reaction last
lasts only a few seconds to a minute. It is also explained by (Terkeltaub Ginsberg, 1988) that both
lymphatic and blood vessels are plugged to limit any fluid loss and platelet, aggregation is
stimulated by the presence of thrombin. Vasoconstriction responds primarily to haemostasis which
is a response to prevent blood loss and a platelet plug is formed to support the prevention of

involved in steroids (9NEWS.com). A university of Michigan report by the Monitoring Future
Study puts steroid use at 4 percent in 2002, up from 25 percent in 2000. In 1992 71 percent of
high school seniors felt that steroid use wasn t worth risking their health, that number dropped

Maxim De Winter
1A. Maxim de Winter is the deeply troubled owner of Manderley. He loves Manderley more than he
loves his first wife, Rebecca. In addition, Maxim despises being the center of talk and gossip. He is
also much older than his second wife.
B. Mr. de Winter, after showing her kindness, marries the narrator months after his first wife
supposedly drowned. In reality, he actually shot Rebecca and placed her body in her boat which he
then sunk in the bay.
C. Maxim s acts of kindness cause the narrator to fall in love with him. Throughout the novel he
encourages the new Mrs. de Winter to not be shy. Ultimately, his actions, from his reaction at the
fancy dress ball to murdering Rebecca and the subsequent aftermath, transform the narrator from an

In the beginning of the novel the narrator appears to be young girl who has recently finished
school. She is shy, uncertain, and quiet. The narrator seems to shy away from the spotlight when
first talking to Mr. de Winter. As she gets to know him a little bit she opens up and soon becomes
smitten for him. The narrator uncharacteristically takes a reckless chance and becomes the new
Mrs. de Winter. After having fun on the honeymoon, she becomes bashful and timid once she
arrives at Manderley. Mrs. Danvers even frightens her. She dislikes when people come to call,
and becomes extremely nervous before the big party. The strain of living in Rebecca s shadow
negatively impacts the narrator by making her more uncertain as she tries to follow in Rebecca s
footsteps. At the turning point in the novel Maxim confesses he murdered Rebecca and that he
never truly loved her at all. This sends Mrs. de Winter into shock. After what Maxim says finally
sinks in the narrator changes. She becomes hardened by the information but also gains courage
from the fact that Rebecca was a horrible person. Soon after even Mrs. Danvers and the ghost
Rebecca do little to faze her. The strain and stress of the resulting inquiry only strengths her. She
falls deeper in love with Maxim and finds inner purpose and courage. By the end of the novel the
narrator is a strong, experienced woman. Mrs. de Winter goes from shy to confident because of
Rebecca, her murder, and Maxim s love and

The Growing Threat of Computer Crime Essay
Abstract
Computers have been used for most kinds of crime, including fraud, theft, larceny, embezzlement,
burglary, sabotage, espionage, murder, and forgery, since the first cases were reported in 1958. One
study of 1,500 computer crimes established that most of them were committed by trusted computer
users within businesses; persons with the requisite skills, knowledge, access, and resources. With
the arrival of personal computers to manipulate information and access computers by telephone,
increasing numbers of crimes electronic trespassing, copyrighted information piracy, vandalism
have been committed by computer hobbyists, known as hackers, who display a high level of
technical expertise. For many years, the term hacker defined ... Show more content on

This is evident by the frequency of reports in the local media. Cash is the most vulnerable asset
as it is the easiest for the perpetrator to convert to personal use. Firms most vulnerable to theft of
money are firms that must rely on one individual to perform the duties of office manager and
bookkeeper. Having more than one employee in the office provides an opportunity to effect
certain internal controls, particularly separation of duties. Small business owners should review
their insurance coverage for employee dishonesty. While there are no standards to determine
precisely the amount of coverage necessary, the marginal cost of adding an extra $1,000 of
coverage decreases as the coverage increases. A business owner should consult with an insurance
agent and err on the side of caution, just to be safe.
Although theft of money is a major subject when speaking of computer crime, there are also many
other areas to be concerned about. Some of the computer crimes for the 21st century will include:
Communication crimes (cellular theft and telephone fraud).
Low tech thieves in airports and bus terminals use binoculars to steal calling card access numbers.
Thieves will park their vans along busy interstate highways and use specialized equipment to steal
cellular telephone access codes from the air. This is just the tip of the iceberg .

Water Contamination Experiment
This lab experiment was to examine the effects of water contamination. This experiment was
based on the quality of water in a town named Fruitvale in which the water had been infected due
to rubbish and litter. Our task was to conduct an experiment using the different water samples
and universal indicator. The universal indicator displays the ppb(contamination level) level in
the water. In total there were 40 well that could be possibly be tested. I tested 23 wells in all. My
final hypothesis is: if I tested wells 12, 9, 6, 16, 15 then the ppb level would be higher because
these wells are near the old chemical company, the farm that uses pesticides and the trash land.
This project was based off of a story of a village named Fruitvale in which

Importance Of Cognitively Based Attitudes
Attitudes are evaluations of people, objects, and ideas. (Akert, 2013) Cognitively based attitudes
are based on thoughts and beliefs one has about an object, and this attitude provides pros and
cons of an object, so we can decide if we want to be associated with it or not. Affectively based
attitudes are based more on people s feelings and values than on their beliefs about the nature of an
attitude object. (Akert, 2013) The elaboration likelihood modelis the umbrella for this topic, because
it explains the two ways in which persuasioncan change someone attitude. The two ways are
persuasion through the central route and the persuasion through the peripheral route. The
elaboration likelihood model refers to processing the message which is related to the cognitively
based attitudes. Persuasive communication is most successful in changing attitudes when going
through the central route because the audience is motivated, whereas with the peripheral route the
audience is not motivated. Now I am going to discuss the routes of persuasion through
advertisements in detail.
The case in which people elaborate on a persuasive communication, listening carefully to and
thinking about the arguments, which occurs when people have both ability, and the motivation to
listen carefully to communication is defined as the central route to persuasion. (Akert, 2013) For
my example, I found an advertisement about Rihanna s new long wearing, shine proof, makeup
line. Her message is, having 40

The Army s Status As A Profession Essay
There are many things that contribute to the US Army s status as a profession. The US Army relies
heavily on patriotism and positive public opinion to maintain its status as a profession. The US
Army currently sustains its enlistment levels solely through volunteers from the general
population. Throughout history the draft has been initiated very rarely in order to augment the
ranks. Congress approves the funding and benefits that make the US Army a viable profession for
those US citizens who volunteer to serve. Without adequate financial support, many soldiers could
not afford to volunteer to serve. The public must trust that militaryand congressional leaders will
utilize the Army, comprised of the sons and daughters who volunteered to serve, in moral and
ethical ways and for purposes that support only the best interests of the United States. If Army
soldiers and their leaders acts in reprehensible ways that destroy the trust and confidence the public
places in this profession, the status of the Army stands at risk of declining. There are multiple
instances throughout history where the status of the US Army has declined in the eyes of the
public. Since Vietnam, the public has received close up photos and first hand accounts of the
horrors of war. Vietnam represents a time when the military was viewed negatively by many people
throughout the US. Soldiers returning from overseas were ostracized and subjected to degrading
and often violent public protests. These

Weaknesses of Incremental Risk Charge Model Under BCBS s approval, banks are expected to improve their own IRC models to calculate risks for individual positions or sets of positions (BCBS, 2009b). It means the Committee hopes banks will have their own choice of liquidity horizon which is appropriate with their business without any issued industry benchmarks or standards (Stretton, 2011). However, it leads to inconsistence within banking system. Furthermore, supervisors have to face with more difficulties in process of evaluating banks IRC model. Although IRC helps bank to capture risks more effectively, especially when market and credit risks collide, there is a significant weakness still be existing. It is the overlap of counterparty credit risk cooperated with over the counters (OTC) and repo style transactions between IRC and CVA (Stretton, 2011). As a consequence, it will lead to duplicate capital charge for the banks. Suggested by Linsz (2010) the corporate Treasurer of Bank of America, the Committee should apply an integrated approach to combine the overlapping risks by deleting the risk above in IRC model, hence build up more accurate capital charge for banks. In fact, Bank of America thinks duplicated capital charge is inappropriate with risk management practices (Linsz, 2010). 3. Effectiveness of Incremental Risk Charge Model According to BCBS (2009b), IRC model mainly compounds two types of risks: default risk and credit migration risk. The origin ... • 5. Moral Skepticism About Mental Disorders Jason Perrin Phil/Psy 345 Moral Skepticism Final Draft December 2, 2014 Moral Skepticism about Mental Disorders The existence of mental disorders, while taken for granted by most people, is disputed by moral skeptics. Moral skepticism is the view that mental disorders do not exist and that it is wrong to label someone as having a mental disorder. In his book, The Disordered Mind, George Graham discusses moral skepticism at great length and offers his contrasting viewpoint. In this essay, I will discuss Graham s view of moral skepticism and contrast that with the views of one of moral skepticism s greatest proponents, Thomas Szasz. I will also elaborate on my own personal views of moral skepticism in an attempt to unify these two opposing theories of mental disorder. Moral antirealism/skepticism, as a concept of mental disorder, is dismissed but not totally rejected by George Graham, as he does concede that there might be lessons to be learned from it. The moral antirealist subscribes to the belief that no condition should be labeled as a mental disorder. They might agree that someone is experiencing an unwelcome condition, that may or may not require outside assistance to overcome, but that does not mean they have a disorder or illness. They believe that in order to help someone suffering from a mental disturbance and to treat them with the most respect, we need to replace the concept of mental disorder with something less stigmatizing. Graham disagrees with this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Economic Development Office For The State Of Texas The summer of 2014, I interned at the Economic Development Office for the state of Texas. The office was tasked with preparing relocation incentives for companies in order to create jobs. The office was split into different departments totaling about 45 people. The office worked strictly under the Governor. One would answer the phone, Office of the Governor, Economic Development... Economic Development offices around the country came under repetitive criticism for behaving as governors slush funds. Essentially there are clear lines of imperative control from superior offices. The office was responsible for overseeing the economic development of the whole state. In other ways, the office directly contrasted Weber s definition. Since the office was able to distribute funds and abate taxes, it made incredible financial decisions for companies and the taxpayers of the state. Awards could not be given out based on a specific set of rules. There was careful consideration into a companies intentions, how they were prepared for the future, and if they fit the new model of businesses Texas wanted to attract. In this regard, the office did not always make systematic decisions. Those promoted were the best performing, most ambitious, and took initiative; only residue of a seniority system remained. A meritocracy, in direct opposition to a tenured hierarchy, opened a dichotomy between the older and younger generations. Under performers were let go regardless of tenure. On a ... He attended Harvard Law with former President of the United States Barack Obama. Gorsuch has served on the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, in Colorado since 2006. Gorsuch is a person who adheres strictly to a text, also known as a textualist. Manchin said in his statement that I will vote to confirm him to be the ninth justice on the Supreme Court. Supreme Court jurists should have an extensive career in law, a record of upholding the Constitution in their rulings, an established judicial philosophy, and an appropriate temperament. Throughout Judge Gorsuch s career, he has come to his legal rulings objectively, through the letter of the law rather than through his own opinion. Under current Senate rules, Gorsuch would need to be confirmed with 60 votes, but the threat of filibuster during Gorsuch s confirmation hearing has led for Republicans, including Senator Lindsey Graham, to call on Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to invoke the nuclear option that would allow Gorsuch to be confirmed by a simple majority ... There have also been a lot of old and young Earth creationism arguments. These theories and arguments are discussed in this paper. According to Exodus 20:11 : For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. This verse is found in the middle part of the TРµn CommandmРµnts. God told the Israelites that the reason they had to work six days and rest on the seventh day, is because He created everything and rested on the seventh day. It is thus not realistic to think we have to work for six long periods (millions of years) and rest for another long period. The Bible also states that Jesus woke up three days after his crucifixion, which could not mean millions of years. Meredith Kline, from Westminster Theological Seminary proposed that Genesis should be interpreted metaphorically and not literally like most of us do. Old Earth creationists believe that scientific evidence cannot be overlooked. Scientists use the method of radiometric aging from meteorite material to determine the age of Earth. Fossils were found that are much older than a few thousand years, for example dinosaurs. PERSONAL VIEW I personally believe in biblical evolution. Science has an explanation for how life is evolving but does not have a valid explanation of how life initially began, that is where science and Christianity are compatible. Christianity can

  • 10. The Conflict Between Social Morality Towards Child Labor... This poem addresses the conflict between social morality towards child labor and the realization that the elite have influenced societies ways. As the original speaker in the poem sees something black in the snow and approaches the object, it turns out to be a young chimneysweeper crying all alone. Once the speaker has approached the cries, the poem then transitions to a different speaker who is the young chimneysweeper expressing their perception towards their situation, which is being involved in child labor and how the sweepers parents along with a prominent source such as God, Priest Kings (12). bypass the morality of forced labor on the young. In the first quatrain stanza it introduces dialogue between the original speaker and the sweeper. You can see there is dialogue approaching because of the punctuations and quotations used within the stanza. Not only does the punctuation give the reader the idea that another person is involved, but the traditional rhyme schemeAA, BB in the first stanza makes the conversation flow smoothly. The first stanza is the only stanza with rhyming couplets that pairs the two speakers together identifying that both lines back to back is the same person speaking. Yes, students should continue to make smart choices about their clothing, but a stricter dress codewould only result in more problems. • 12. Analysis Of Silent Spring By Rachel Carson Jaanavi Selvaraj Hitchens Pd 8 Silent Spring Everyday, all around the world, people and animals enjoy the simple pleasures that nature brings them. But in the past, excessive pesticide use by farmers has changed the quality of the environment for the worse. Rachel Carson, American scientist, author, and conservationist, fought against this ridiculous act for many years. In her 1962 book, Silent Spring, Carson considers that if farmers continue to apply generous amounts of pesticides, the spring season will eventually become dead quiet due to all the extinct animals. By discussing the consequences of these pesticides on the environment, wildlife, and humans, Carson encourages the public to take necessary action to prevent the dangers of pesticide application. In an attempt to evoke a desire in the public to conserve their environment, Carson shares how the pesticides negatively affect the environment. By saying that the vegetation coated with lethal film, Carson convinces the audience that the crops they purchase from farmers are dangerously deadly. To prevent themselves from danger, people are motivated to change farmers actions for safer vegetation. Additionally, the farmers treat an area of river bottomland with parathion, ruining the river, along with the public s ecosystem. Likewise, people are more likely to fight for something that directly affects them, as the application of pesticide does. To further support her argument, Carson informs the readers of the growing trend toward aerial applications of such deadly poisons such as parathion. Carson s casual language emphasizes the normalcy of a disastrous situation that hurts the environment. By commenting on the public dangers of pesticide application, Carson further develops her argument that environmental reform is a necessity. By speaking to the effects the pesticides have on wildlife, Carson reinforces the idea that public action needs to take place to save the animal population. Carson mentions that the pesticides casualty list included some 65,000 red winged blackbirds and starlings. Carson s militaristic language emphasizes the seriousness and urgency of the topic, drawing the public s attention. Moreover, uninvolved animals such as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Using scare tactics, propaganda, and false facts, the government decided to classify the plant as a schedule one drug along with substances such as ecstasy, LSD, and heroin. Marijuana has since become a more common and socially acceptable (Not by the government) drug in recent years. This past year Colorado, Washington, and Oregon had decided to vote on the issue of legalizing marijuana for recreational use. When asked about continuing research, Nearly all agreed on the need for further medical education about medical marijuana. With 91% agreeing that it should be explored deeper, it shows that many people don t actually know the truth of how helpful or harmful marijuana can be. There is one big problem about the testing of marijuana; the government still classifies it as illegal. They refuse to put it down to a schedule two drug along with cocaine and morphine which they classify as having medical value. Maia Szalavitz of Time magazine compared the addiction rate of marijuana users against tobacco and other hard drugs. She stated, Marijuana is much less addictive, coming in at 9% to 10%. In contrast, 23% to 25% of heroin users get addicted, along with 15% of alcohol users and 15% to 20% of those who use cocaine. Nicotine in cigarettes addicts about up to 30% of those who smoke, along with being more harmful to the body according to Robert Melamede. Marijuana seems like it would be a legitimate candidate for medicinal use country wide when compared to alcohol which is legal, cocaine, and morphine which have accepted medical use but also can be more harmful to the user. But aside from medical and recreational uses, the benefits for the states that legalize it can be enormous. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It would enable the enemy scouts to see where they had gone and report to Duke Gashard. Gashard s army advanced on them quickly, perhaps, only an hour s time, before they would overtake them. Nightburn s army passed through the forest, fully aware that Gashard s army would shortly be upon them. They had increased the speed of their withdrawal once they entered the forest and were now almost at a full run. Nightburn reigned in his horse as Sir Faine came barreling toward him from his left and met him. Are the archers in position? He shifted in his saddle, looking back as his troops continued to run passed, to view the tail end of his troops retreat. They were almost clear of the forest, and so far everything was going as planned. Yes, my Lord. Sir Faine replied, also satisfied with the progress of the troops. Who s the officer with them? Lieutenant Gustav and he understands what s expected of him. Nightburn nodded and both rode off quickly, urging the men to an even faster pace. Gashard s army had advanced quickly and most had already entered the forest of Catahclisum. They had cut the time of encounter in half and Duke Gashard was very pleased. Cyber physical systems: Abstract: Security is one of the important aspect in deciding the reliability of any system and Cyber Physical systems cannot be ruled out from this important issue. In this paper we investigate the security issues in CPS, enforcing sensor network theory information flow based theory and control theory in CPS which are the three primary approaches to system security policies and mechanisms. Among those changes, Schlosser explains, Iowa Beef Packers (IBP) changed the entire meatpacking industry by turning the business of slaughtering animals into an assembly line. Small business today is changing from a mentality of all success and forget about the consequences; to a more earth friendly thought process that asks how the company can do business longer. • 22. William Blake And The Divine Image Essay William Blake, a transitional figure in British literature, was the first romantic poet to focus on content instead of form. Blake is one of the great mystics of the world, like Henry More and Wordsworth; he lived in a world of glory, of spirit and of vision, which, for him, was the only real world. His devotion to God expresses through his lyrical poetrycollection Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. This collection contains 51 poems where the poems of Innocence are counter part of the poems of Experience. The Lamb , The Divine Image and are poems from Songs of Innocence and The Tyger, The Sick Rose and The Human Abstract are poems from Songs of Experience. Blake s poetry can easily be interpreted by the theory of New Criticism that attempts to treat each work as its own distinct piece, free from its environment, era, and even author. Poetry is one of the most useful expressions of a mystic s inner experiences. By nature Blake, a mystic is able to access a state of consciousness that is beyond the usual awareness of humanity. This paper will give a glimpse to its readers about Blake s poetic vision on world, its connection with God along with a clear concept that unconsciously his lyrics maintain the theory of new critics who give more importance to close analysis of form, literary devices, and technique of a text. The term ``case method has come to refer to a wide range of teaching styles and objectives that can be adopted within the use of case studies for teaching (Dooley and Skinner, 1977). It has been proposed that the case method can be used to: . gain illustration of particular points, issues or managerial principles; . provide managers with a neutral situation in which they are free to explore problems (because they are not their own); . relate theory to practice; . confront the complexities of specific situations; . develop analysis and synthesis; . develop self analysis, attitudes, confidence, responsibility; . develop interpersonal skills, communication and listening; and . develop judgement and wisdom and enliven teaching. The method may gain the student s intellectual and emotional involvement and assist the long term retention of understanding and bring realism into instructional settings (Romm and Mahler, 1991; Osigweh, 1989; Smith, 1987; Christensen and Hansen, 1987; Dooley and Skinner, 1977). The case method is not without its limitations. Cases may be limited in the extent to which they present the realities of an organization. Rumen Gases Of all ruminant animal types, (cattle, goats, and sheep), beef and dairy cattle are by far the largest emitters of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. As part of their digestive process, cows produce methane. An average cow in North America, which includes beef cows, bulls, calves, growing steers/heifers, and feedlot cattle, eructs via belching 117 pounds (53 kilograms) of methane (CH4) per head per year, according to 2006 guidelines from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The ruminant animal is unique because of its four stomach compartments: reticulum, rumen, omasum and abomasum. The function of the rumen as a fermentation vat and the presence of certain bacteria promote the development of gases. These gases are found in the upper part of the rumen with CO2 and CH4 making up the largest portion (Table 1). The proportion of these gases is dependent on rumen ecology and fermentation balance. Typically, the proportion of carbon dioxide is two to three times that of CH4, although a large quantity of CO2 is reduced to CH4. The eructation of gases via belching is important in bloat prevention but is also the way CH4 is emitted into the atmosphere. Methodology This section contains the mathematical background and stepwise procedure for EnKF algorithm, KL expansion and ANN based proxy model. Integration of proxy model with EnKF algorithms for time efficient assisted history matching is also explained in this section. Ensemble Kalman Filter Algorithm EnKF is a Monte Carlo data assimilation method, which has gained popularity over recent years for assisted history matching due to its ability to include available observations sequentially in time. Aanonsen et al. (2009) reviewed the application of EnKF in reservoir engineering for estimation of reservoir parameters. EnKF procedure utilizes an ensemble of model states (e.g. realizations of reservoir properties such as porosity and permeability) to estimate the covariance matrices used in model updating process. Initial ensemble is generated based on the prior knowledge of the reservoir derived from various sources as well logs, core and seismic analysis. In general, simulation techniques such as Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS) and Sequential Indicator Simulation (SIS) are used to generate multiple realizations. These realizations are consistent with the initial state of the reservoir. In the next step, all the reservoir models in ensemble are forwarded typically using the numerical reservoir simulation. Mean and covariance of predicted model states is calculated and used in turn to calculate Kalman gain. Next, in the update (or analysis) step, each geological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Quantitative Arbitrage Trading Strategy Analysis Many financial instruments have exhibited mean reversion, such as US and global equities [1], commodities [2], foreign exchange rates [3] as well as volatility indices [19]. Moreover, some researchers have also found mean reverting process to be very useful in modeling the interest rate and default risk dynamics [20]. In financial industry, some practitioners even attempt to profit by constructing mean reverting prices which are usually known as statistical arbitrageor pair trading. Statistical arbitrage is a more sophisticated trading strategy that evolved out of the simpler pairs trade strategy [4]. In the pairs trading, two highly correlated stocks are put into pairs and when one stock outperforms the other, we short this stock and long the other stock. Unlike the pair trading, Statistical arbitrage usually considers a basket of hundreds or more stocks, long in some and short in others, in order to construct a mean reversion portfolio. The pairs/statistical arbitrage trading strategies have gained great popularity with the invention of exchange traded funds (ETFs), as some ETFs are created to track the underlying indexes/assets. The mean reverting spreads among commodity ETFs have already been investigated and the trading strategies have been developed for statistical arbitrage [21]. Moreover, the mean reverting spread between physical gold price and gold ETFs has also been investigated [22]. Given the dynamics of the underlying portfolio or assets, investors have to ... • 46. Water Contamination Experiment This lab experiment was to examine the effects of water contamination. This experiment was based on the quality of water in a town named Fruitvale in which the water had been infected due to rubbish and litter. Our task was to conduct an experiment using the different water samples and universal indicator. The universal indicator displays the ppb(contamination level) level in the water. In total there were 40 well that could be possibly be tested. I tested 23 wells in all. My final hypothesis is: if I tested wells 12, 9, 6, 16, 15 then the ppb level would be higher because these wells are near the old chemical company, the farm that uses pesticides and the trash land. This project was based off of a story of a village named Fruitvale in which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Importance Of Cognitively Based Attitudes Attitudes are evaluations of people, objects, and ideas. (Akert, 2013) Cognitively based attitudes are based on thoughts and beliefs one has about an object, and this attitude provides pros and cons of an object, so we can decide if we want to be associated with it or not. Affectively based attitudes are based more on people s feelings and values than on their beliefs about the nature of an attitude object. (Akert, 2013) The elaboration likelihood modelis the umbrella for this topic, because it explains the two ways in which persuasioncan change someone attitude. The two ways are persuasion through the central route and the persuasion through the peripheral route. Persuasive communication is most successful in changing attitudes when going through the central route because the audience is motivated, whereas with the peripheral route the audience is not motivated. Now I am going to discuss the routes of persuasion through advertisements in detail. The case in which people elaborate on a persuasive communication, listening carefully to and thinking about the arguments, which occurs when people have both ability, and the motivation to listen carefully to communication is defined as the central route to persuasion. (Akert, 2013) For my example, I found an advertisement about Rihanna s new long wearing, shine proof, makeup line. Her message is, having 40 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
