In Marjane Satrapi s graphic novel, Persepolis, the protagonist, Marji, faces hardships and
conflict as a woman in Iran. When discussing conflict that Marji faces, politics is one topic that
stands out the most. Growing up in a war torn and corrupt country, Marji is exposed to violence
at a young age and is forced to mature quickly. As she grows older she experiments during a
period of rebellion and temporarily leaves her home country in an effort to find herself. However,
much later, she circles back to Iranand comes home to the same crumbling and oppressive system
she has always resented. Even though Marji may change as she travels to new places, grows older,

I chose to do the topic of Americana music for my research paper for a number of reasons. For
the last several years, I ve found myself listening to more and more of this folksy, country like, old

It s one of the few sources I ve found that is written specifically about Americana music. I ve
glanced through it, but have yet to do an in depth read yet. Hopefully it will be as informative as I
d like it to be.
Another source that will help with a certain aspect of understanding Americana music is the
journal article Nashville and Americana Music by Garrett Harper and Chris Cotton. I think one of
the most important aspects of Americana music is that it truly is American music, and I don t want
my research to be pigeon holed into one particular style from one location. There is no denying,
