This document provides feedback on a student's pre-production work for a music video project. The teacher comments that the student's research and planning is generally good, but requires more detail in some areas. Specifically, the student needs to add a shotlist, more details on genre analysis and target audience, explanations for arrows on floorplans, more details on props and actors, and an equipment list. The student created an action plan to address these areas, but some improvements could still be made. The teacher awarded the work a final mark of 14 out of 20.

1. Coldplay - analysis using narrative codes and theorists. Some nice detail
on codes used and relation to narrative.
Vance Joy – analysis of video with imagery and some technical elements
discussed using aspects of Goodwin’s theory – with some use of screen
grabs as evidence to the analysis. Clear understanding shown though at
times lacks good in-depth detail.
2. Some good if brief detail of Indie Folk using Prezi, concise research. Early
influence added but seems very basic. Needs more on links to culture, and
images. Please add
Post has been added on digipaks and adverts, which again shows some
good clear understanding of task and conventions used but at times too
descriptive.
3. Nice detail into audience, with interests and a ‘typical’ audience member
shown - info seems to be taken from stereotype but you need to more
actual research – please add
4. Lyrics have been annotated well, showing camera shots and ideas.
5. Evidence of ideas drafting, with some reflection on comments.
6. Storyboard shows action with good technical detail, good variety of shots
that follow genre video conventions, shots don’t always match info.

2. Overall this is a good body of work, well done. Good use of technologies
throughout. At this stage you are just missing an equipment list showing what you
will use during the production stage. You also need to add more detail to where
requested.
You could add additional content such as a risk assessment.
Good clear blog that is easy to navigate.

Student action plan for improvement
Shotlist has been added – list added with detail on shot type, movement and brief
description. Could have been presented more clearly.
More links to culture have been added for genre analysis – slides amended and
added showing links to culture and fashion
The “Hipster culture” has been added to target audience research – post has
been amended with more detail on audience, sources added
Floorplans have the arrows with the text boxes to highlight what they are – post
has been amended but still no sense of where actors/cameras will be
Props list improved – brief detail on props to be used
Actors chosen have a brief summary – very basic, no real detail on why they were
chosen other than they are friends
Equipment list has been added – brief post added with detail as to why equipment
chosen
