This document summarizes Pollutech Environmental Consultants' experience with a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project involving an anaerobic wastewater treatment system at a rum distillery in Nicaragua. The project would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 192,000 tons of CO2 per year by treating wastewater anaerobically to produce biogas. It describes the CDM process, participants, financing organizations, and attributes such as enhancing project value through certified emission reductions but also complexity and risks.
If you’re like many Albertans, you’re probably asking yourself some pretty important questions about climate change. The most overdue questions may be about soil not oil. For example:
How can agricultural producers participate in the carbon market?
Will international climate change agreements influence land use activities?
Could more land users be regulated for emissions reduction as seen in the energy sector?
This is the second of a three-part webinar series led by ELC Staff Counsel Adam Driedzic.
Strategic and visionary presentations sharing their latest success stories, lessons learned, challenges and next steps regarding natural refrigerant-based technologies in Southeast Asia.
This session focussed on the specific market demands and issues of the region, and available solutions.
CleanWafer has invented a patented, disruptive technology which allows the manufacturing of top-quality silicon wafers at a fraction of current costs, all without carbon emissions. In addition, byproducts of the patented manufacturing process can be resold.

Ricoh: Manufacturing in the Circular Economy - Base Cities Birmingham - April...Andy Whyle
Presentation made at Base Cities Birimingham (April 2013) showing Ricoh's approach to Zero Waste, Remanufacturing and how these aspects engage with the circular economy.
The presentation shows how Ricoh has implemented reverse logistics to retain control of it's assets (products), and then remanufactured the assets to reduce environmental impact and increase resource conservation. This falls in line with Ricoh's Comet Circle life cycle philosophy and Zero Waste to Landfill standard.

The global demand for achieving the net zero emission target by 2050 has pushed governments all over to adapt and adopt advanced carbon removal technologies to go carbon negative.
It is, indeed, an important topic of discussion, because a carbon free environment is the need of the hour to save our planet. And, therefore, BIS Research is glad to announce its upcoming webinar on this particular subject.
Agenda:
The main agenda of this webinar is to understand and explore the following:
• Primary sources of carbon emissions and associated environmental issues
• Carbon dioxide removal – key technology and adoption scenario
• Carbon dioxide removal (CDR): trends and key market developments
• Carbon dioxide removal as a credible solution
• Conclusion and future outlook
Capturing atmospheric carbon dioxide and using it to produce synthetic biofuel, constitutes carbon-negative transportation fuels. To put it another way, the process has a negative carbon footprint because it removes carbon dioxide from the air and uses it as fuel. Production of hydrogen, which requires electricity or natural gas and can still result in emissions, is a more expensive and time-consuming route to decarbonization than the use of carbon-negative fuels. It is also possible to use carbon-negative fuels to power currently operating vehicles, without the need for new expensive fueling infrastructure, shortening the time and money needed to a fully decarbonized future.

Oportunidades para el sector privado en el marco de la ecoeficiencia. Casos exitosos alrededor del mundo.
Presentado por Alessandro Casoli, Asociado Estratégico en Política y Mercados - The Carbon Trust.
A carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gases—primarily carbon dioxide—released into the atmosphere by a particular human activity. A carbon footprint can be a broad meaasure or be applied to the actions of an individual, a family, an event, an organization, or even an entire nation.
This webinar will review the various mechanisms agreed in the Kyoto Protocol with a particular focus on Clean Development Mechanism. The value at each stage of the CDM project will be explained, and market prices for carbon credits will be analysed.
In order to illustrate this type of project, real case studies carried out by Deuman will be discussed. Voluntary carbon credits will also be analysed.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

20. THE CDM PROCESS
To be certified, projects will require
• voluntary participation approved by each Party
involved
• real, measurable and long term benefits
related to the the mitigation of climate change
• reductions that are additional to any that
would occur in the absence of the certified
project activity
21. THE CDM PROCESS
CDM projects are required to result in emission
reductions that are “additional to any that would
have occurred in the absence of certified project
activity”
The easiest tests of additionality are the
introduction of new technologies to the market or
projects where emission credits are a critical
economic factor
All CDM projects are nation to nation bilateral
agreements requiring the consent of the
Canadian and host country governments
22. THE CDM PROCESS STEPS
Establishment of emissions baseline
Quantification of emission reductions achieved
by the project
Verification of emission reductions on an annual
basis
Host Country project recognition
Investor Country project recognition
Host Country - Investor Country Project
Agreement
Registration of project with the UNFCCC
Sale of Credits on the world market annually

27. CDM PROJECT ATTRIBUTES
CDM can enhance the value
and cash flow of international
development projects
CDM can result in complex
implementation models
Complexity can increase
transaction costs
Uncertainty - Need definitive

Risk - Sale of Emission
