Woodworking Safety:
1. Always Wear Safety Equipment.
2. Wear Appropriate Clothing
3. Avoid Drugs and Alcohol
4. Disconnect Power Before Blade Changes
5. Use Sharp Blades and Bits
6. Always Check for Nails, Screws, and Other Metal
7. Always Work Against the Cutter
8. Never Reach Over a Blade to Remove Cut-Offs
9. Avoid Distractions

Introduce
Wood is one of the building materials you can create anything from as long as you have
the right tools. It has certain features that need to be taken into consideration for
maintenance and function to achieve the outcome you need. Wood has a higher
strength to stiffness ratio than iron, steel or concrete making it a versatile building
material. Since wood is porous, it has the ability to lose and gain moisture making its
storage crucial in carpentry. Shaping and cutting into wood is done meticulously via
different tools making carpentry interesting and myriad in its shapes and forms.
Tools are divided into two main groups: hand tools and power tools. Examples of hand tools
include chisels, files, planes, hammers and hand saw.
5
Hand tools
1. Chisels : is a tool with characteristically shape cutting of blade on its
end.
● Chisels are not just for woodcarvers.Any woodworkerwill need
chisels to clean out joints and saw cuts. Look for chisels made of
high-alloy carbon steel or chromium-vanadium alloyed steel.
Hardwood grips are best, especiallyif they have metal caps on them.
This will keep the end of the handle from becoming malformedwhen
you hammer on it.
● You’ll need a variety of sizes in ¼” increments from ¼” to at least 1½”. The
smallest chisels are best for mortise work. The ¾” and 1” will be best for door
hinges, and the 1½” works well for chipping out. You can even get a corner chisel
that cuts a notch out of the wood with the blow of a hammer, much like a hole
punch.
Type of woodworking chisels :
❏ Butt chisel
❏ Carving chisel
❏ Framing chisel
❏
Paring chisel

2. Files : metal working , woodworking and plastic working tool used for
cutting fine amounts of wood.
Type of Files
❏ Needle files : small files that are used in applications where the
surface finish takes priority over metal removal rates.
❏ Diamond files : the type that may be used with a back-and-forth
motion without damaging the file
❏ Machine files : is similar in appearance to a scroll saw with a
vertically reciprocating file mounted in the middle of a table.
Power tool
7
Power Toole
1. Circular Saw : is a tool for cutting many materials such as wood,
masonry, plastic, or metal and may be hand-held or mounted to a
machine. In woodworking, the term "circular saw" refers specificallyto
the hand-held type and the table saw and chop saw are other
commonforms of circular saws.
2. Jigsaw is a saw which uses a reciprocating blade to cut irregular
curves, such as stencil designs,in wood, metal, or other materials.
3. Table saw : is a woodworking tool, consisting of a circular saw blade,
mounted on an arbor, that is driven by an electric motor. The blade
8
protrudes through the top of a table, which provides supportfor the
material, usually wood, being cut.
4. Router: is a power tool with a flat base and a rotating blade extending past the
base. The spindle may be driven by an electric motor or by a pneumatic motor. It
9
routs (hollows out) an area in hard material, such as wood or plastic. Routers are
used most often in woodworking, especially cabinetry.
SUMMARY
10
Summary
One of the things I learned from being around carpentry is the importance of
having many tools in order to conduct carpentry works, it sounds easy when
talked about, but attempting to make a certain structure from wood, needs many
different types of tools from every tool.
