Persecution Of Christian Persecution
In the year 64, a fire started somewhere in the streets of Rome. Wind spread the fire across the city,
burning down the palace. Following this, Emperor Nero put the blame on the Christians, marking the
first record of Christian persecution by the roman government. For the next 200+ years, there have
been on and off bouts of persecution, ranging from Trajan forcing suspected Christians to prove their
innocence by worshipping roman gods in the early 100 s to Valerian ordering the execution of church
bishops and other church leaders in 258. While there were years of tolerance for Christians, the ever
changing stance of the Roman government toward Christianity made life difficult for those who
believed. The persecution reached new levels during Diocletian s reign in the 300 s with the removal
of Christians from the army and the rise of many people with anti Christian beliefs to positions of
power. In 303, a more general persecution of Christians began with a series of edicts ordering the
destruction and seizure of church property and arrest of church leaders and the requirement of all
people to make sacrifices to the roman gods on the pain of death if refused. These policies were
implemented to varying degrees across the roman empire; however, the general persecution of
Christians still took place.
The empire wide persecutions continued until Diocletian and Maximian resigned in 305, leaving the
leadership and morale of the church in shambles. When Constantius and Galerius took

Prejudice and Racism in Conrad’s Heart of Darkness Essay
Racism in Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Imagine floating up the dark waters of the Congo River in the Heart of Africa. The calmness of the
water and the dense fog make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck as you wonder if the
steamboats crew will eat you as you sleep. These things occur in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness.
Although the book is undeniably racist, was the author, Joseph Conrad, racist? Conrad was racist
because he uses racial slurs, the slavery and unfair treatment of the native Africans in his book.
The use of racist language is very prevalent in Heart of Darkness. Conrad, through Marlow, the main
character, uses the word nigger when talking about native Africans on many occasions. The fool
nigger had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A normal person today would feed and pay those who work for them. It is considered morally sound
to do this. In Heart of Darkness, no one thinks it is wrong to not feed or pay those who work for you.
It would be considered wrong to help feed the workers who are starving. Conrad raises no point in his
book that this act is unacceptable. Conrad then believes it is okay. In Heart of Darkness,it is
considered reasonable to make the natives at fault for things management has done. The manager sets
Marlow s trade goods on fire and blames a native for the blaze. This act dehumanized the native much
like a slave.
Black figures strolled about listlessly, pouring water on the glow, whence proceeded a sound of
hissing; steam ascended in the moonlight; the beaten nigger groaned somewhere.
(Conrad 28)
If the native people in Heart of Darkness were paid for their work it would be so minute that the
natives would hardly be able to buy enough food to bring themselves out of starvation.
Besides that, they had given them every week three pieces of brass wire each about nine inches long,
and the theory was they were to buy their provisions with that currency in river side villages.
(Conrad 42)
The natives who received the wire never had a chance to use it because the boat never stopped at any
villages. Conrad s relaxed writing style makes it sound humorous that the natives were treated unfairly
and that is very racist.
The unfair treatment of the

Bathhouse Row History
Have you ever wanted to take a bath with other people? Now that might sound very disturbing, but
you would be in separate bath tubs, that is beginning to sound a little better, but you would probably
still want a separate room for privacy. Well you wouldn t get that kind of privacy if you went to
Bathhouse Row in Hot Springs, Arkansas that provide bathing and therapeutic practices.
Bathhouse Row is a line of bathhouses located in Hot Springs National Park. These bathhouses were
included with four parcels to preserve 47 natural hot springs in 1832. The first bathhouses were log
and wood frame structures, built from 1830 to the late 19th century. People would go here to bath in
the natural springs, because it was soothing for therapeutic uses. ... Show more content on

Hale, and was the first of bathhouses to offer modern conveniences.
The last building and also the most northern building is the Superior, completed in 1916. The building
is two stories, with an L shaped basement containing about 23 rooms and more than 10,000 square
feet built of masonry and reinforced concrete. The building was damaged by a flood in 1923 and
remodeling was somewhat done in the 1930s. Whirlpool equipment was installed in 1962 and air
conditioning in 1971. Then the Superior closed in 1983 and the furnishings inside were sold at an
auction.
Currently the Buckstaff, Fordyce, and Administration building are the only buildings open to the
public. The Buckstaff is the only bathhouse that still provides baths and other services. Fordyce was
restored in 1989 and is converted into the park s visitor center. Each bathhouse is set back the same
distance from the sidewalk and has green spaces/garden in front. They each have similar height, scale,
and proportions. The needs for bathhouses are no longer needed since the advancements in medicine
and the high costs of medical care have reduced bathing for physical therapy. For Hot Springs,
Arkansas the residents see the bathhouses as a form of architectural core for downtown. Bathhouse
Row is the largest collection of bathhouses remaining in the United States of the 20th

The Iranian Revolution Essay
The emergence of the Islamic Republic in late 1970 s Iran demonstrates how middle class Iranian
people purged themselves of the Pahlavi Dynasty in an effort to continue down a more righteous and
egalitarian path. As a result, the country underwent a complete social upheaval and in its place grew
an overtly oppressive regime based in theoretical omnipotence. In response to this regime, the very
structure of political and social life was shaken and fundamentally transformed as religion and politics
became inexorable. As a result, gender roles and the battle between public and private life were
redrawn. Using various primary and secondary sources I will show how the Revolution shaped secular
middle class Iranians. Further, I will show how the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the author recalls the Iranian government closing down all bilingual schools or any other
symbols of capitalism and decadence . These became symbols of regression in the eyes of the
Ayatollah and everyone must conform. The author struggles with the very idea of politics and religion
during this period as laws of forced veiling and oppression came into conflict with her preconceptions
of religion. The author cites an instances where the police locked the outside doors of an Iranian
cinema, set it on fire, and prohibited people from rescuing those inside. According to the text, The
BBC said there were 400 victims. The shah said that a group of religious fanatics perpetrated the
massacre. But the people knew that it was the Shah s fault. The secular Iranian perspective of the
injustices being committed by the newly formed Islamic Republic was troubling. A release was sought
by this group of people, the only problem was enjoying life and not getting caught. Enjoying life
during the Islamic Republic included nothing inferred by the word enjoy . Anything that was enjoyed
such as drinking alcohol, dancing at concerts, or commiserating in a party setting was forbidden and
punishable by law. As a result, Iranians ran the risk of getting caught and did these things
conspicuously. In Persepolis, the author describes an instance where she and her family are stopped on
their way home by a street gang enforcing the

October Revolution Problems
Lenin and Problems After the October Revolution
The initial difficulties faced by the new Soviet Union were to severe that its survival seemed almost
miraculous. The remains of the czarist regime left Lenin to face a country wrought with war,
devastated economically.
Russia s involvement in World War I, followed by its Civil War, wide spread famine and a change in
political and social ideology were the problems confronting Lenin after the October Revolution. Lenin
did succeed in ending both the war with Germany and the Civil War for Russia. Yet, the economic and
social aspects of the revolution can be more critically assessed.
Lenin knew the importance of ending Russian involvement in World War I.
On March 3, 1918 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As in the case of the World War, a simple end to the fighting did not signify an end to the devastation
that had been left as a consequence.
The economic and social problems that arose from the end of the czarist regime were dealt with by
Lenin initially unsuccessfully. War communism, a forced socialized economic policy began with the
confiscation of surplus grain.
It then extended to all other products. Abusive detachments fought peasant resistance with the terror of
the Red Army, and in 1919 when they gained control, with the Extraordinary Commission (Cheka).
What Lenin had thought would bring the triumph of communism rendered only misery and disorder.
The Kronstadt
Revolt in February, 1921 is an example of the indignation felt by those that saw the Bolshevik s
policies as too oppressive. Finally, Lenin sees that a transition period is necessary, and denounces war
communism for its impractical severity. Up until this point the disastrous economic and social
problems of the nation were not dealt with successfully.
Both World War I and the Civil War left rampant destruction in Russia s agricultural production.
Drought as well as the failure of war communism led to wide spread famine. At this point Lenin
introduced gradual economic measures that began as agricultural policies. According to British
historian E.H. Carr,
Lenin s New Economic Policy increased from food production to trade, to the

Artificial Intelligence And The Military
Practical Artificial Intelligence in the Military The idea of artificial intelligence has been around for
thousands of years. Ancient Greek myths talk about how machines were made to perform tasks for
their creators. The most basic forms of artificial intelligence arose from people creating machinery to
do tasks for them, such as using windmills to mill grain or retrieve water from the ground, deriving
formulas of math to reach answers quicker, or to print books that would have to be hand written
before. Just recently, artificial intelligence has started being implemented into the military. The
expansion and development of artificial intelligence in the military is safe. It will ultimately remove
humans from the battlefield and/or equip them with technologically advanced gear that will help
prevent injuries during war that would otherwise be fatal. At this point in time it seems rather
outlandish to have machines or supersoldiers (people aided by technology in war) to be sent off to war
to fight for our safety. However, these forms of A.I. are not completely polished but, they are on the
horizon and will help greatly reduce the toll that tragedies of war have on the United States. War
would be exponentially safer for our country and soldiers if artificial intelligence is used properly.
The United States needs to realize how war is going to be fought in the future. According to The New
York Times article, Artificial Intelligence in the Next War, officials of the United

Analysis Of The Movie Defiance
Defiance is a movie written, directed and produced by Edward Zwick. This movie s setting is in Nazi
occupied territory in Belarus during World War II. The storyline follows the Bielski brothers as they
attempt to evade capture and fight for their lives, and over the course of the movie, the lives of twelve
hundred other Jewish survivors on their quest for life, liberty and the new promised land. The film
features Daniel Craig as Tuvia Bielski, Liev Schreiber as Zus Bielski, Jamie Bell as Asael Bielski and
George MacKay as Aron Bielski. The film is based upon the novel Defiance: The Bielski Partisans

The director pulls the viewer into the struggle to survive and what it feels like to be hunted like
animals. Hearing of the dissident Bielskis, other Jewish refugees begin to come to join the camp.
Unable to provide for themselves adequately, the brothers argue over how they will take care of a
growing colony of people, Zwick builds in tension between the Bielskis in an ever increasing fashion
leading the moviegoer to wonder when the breaking point will come and that it does. Anyone with
siblings can relate to this pressure cooker atmosphere when you have just had enough. There is a battle
between savage and civility, both inside the camp and outside. The eldest Bielski sets the tone for the
behavior for those within his camp stating, [w]e may be hunted like animals, but we will not become
animals (Zwick, Defiance). Tensions continue to rise to the point of an altercation, leading to a
separation in the Bielski clan Zus joins the Russian army rebels who are also hiding out in the forest.
The director shows the stark difference between the brothers when it comes to taking a life, Tuvia
going out of his way not to pull the trigger and Zus not hesitating one second. Both are leaders but
with differing views of what being a leader means. The winter came, and brought with it sickness,
strife, starvation, death and more Jewish refugees. Many undertones are laid equating Tuvia to Moses

Argumentative Essay On Yoga
Yoga has been associated with stress. The larger the amount of stress a person has, the less likely that
person is to feel in control of themselves and their surroundings. Yoga has also been linked to a person
s health and wellbeing. During a one week experiment, a researcher did yoga once a day at 7:00 pm
for a half hour. A survey was taken twice, in hour intervals, after the yoga session was completed, at
8:30 pm and 9:30 pm. The surveys are what was used to find the data that created the results of the
experiment. One type of yoga, integrated yoga, was used throughout the week. The results concluded
yoga helps relieve stress for one hour after the session was completed, but was stressed again shortly
after that hour was finished. Different styles of yoga classes could be offered and more times could be
made available at the Elmen Center. Yoga is currently offered at 4:30 pm in the Back Alley, but more
class times could be 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm. Different styles include hot yoga, iyengar yoga, or hatha
yoga. To improve evaluations, a person could add questions about their level of stress before and after
the yoga class. These improvements will allow researchers to see if the results are true for the majority
of people.

How much longer I thought it felt like forever before we finally pulled u p at Ohio Nets. Since we had
not had dinner we debated over whether we should get something from the concession stand. After a
couple minutes of bickering my family decided to get some hotdogs and chips. I ate my dinner, I and
walked over to talk to my other teammates. We talked about school and other sports, but then finally
started talking about the real topic which was the game. The team that we would face would be very
lanky and masculine. They were also athletic,as well as us. But the real question would we be able to
keep up with their pace and be able to defend their height.
As warm ups started I began to feel a weird feeling in my stomach. I had never been affected by the
people around but I guess now I was actually scared. After warm ups we huddled up we were given a
quick speech, and told us that we did not need to be as physically gifted as they were but we needed to
be able to have the heart to overcome the challenge. The game began we started of in a hole. The team
was winning 10 4. They were not better than us they just were getting in our heads, and making us
make the wrong decisions.I sighed in disbelief when a boy named Ethan on my team accidently shot
on the other team s basket. At halftime it was 23 14 with us losing. We were all looking down in the
dumps. Since everyone didn t look to happy I tried to cheer them up,but that didn t work.

Arguments Against Veganism
Ever since the beginning of time, man has hunted and consumed animals for survival. Because of this,
it is been taught for millennials that meat is an essential to our bodies for survival and health. While
we are capable of eating meat, the question is, should we? Firstly, humans do not need to eat meat, or
any other animal products for that matter, for survival. Modern day humans are not living in the same
conditions as early humans were, making it unnecessary for us to consume animal products. We no
longer need to rely on animals for consumption, and in fact, it is actually best to leave them absent
from your diet. Numerous amounts of studies have been conducted that support the claim that
consuming animal products is detrimental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most common arguments is that our ancestors ate it, so so should we. Humans have had
omnivorous diets since the beginning of mankind, and this has been an argument that is oftenly used
against veganism. Early humans were scavengers and ate whatever they could find for the purpose of
survival and it is believed that humans ate a majority of meat, however scientific studies have shown
otherwise. In a study conducted, plant derived fiber was the majority of what was found in early
human feces (nutritionfacts.org). Vegaprocity (vegaprocity.com) shows that both carnivores and
omnivores require fiber to stimulate peristalsis, while all herbivores, frugivores, and humans do
require fiber to stimulate peristalsis, however in America, usually less than half the recommended fiber
intake a day is consumed (nutritionfacts.org). While there is no denial that early humans did not hunt
and eat animals, this suggests that the majority of what was ate ate was not meat, but in fact plants and
herbs. When compared to carnivores, humans show more similarity to herbivores and frugivores. One
of the common arguments used in opposition to veganism is that humans are supposed to eat meat
because the mechanism of our body suggest so. This, however, is false. When compared to carnivores
and herbivores, humans share far more similarities with herbivores. To begin with, humans have short

3.1 Explain How To Promote Children And Young People s...
As a practitioner, it is important you deal with unwanted behaviour in a calm manner. This is because
children and young people will copy what they see as their behaviour is affected by others around
them. For example, if the practitioner shouts at the child saying play nicely or say go to the carpet for
time out then the child will copy this behaviour and tell other children off. If adults show conflict then
children and young people will get frightened and confused. This can also lead for the child to have
unwanted behaviour. For example, if the parents be aggressive when dealing with conflict then the
child is going to feel scared and confused on what is going on. It is important that practitioners and
parents reassure the child and allow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Kounin s model believed that children and young people react to adults actions and
behaviour. It is important that adults consider their own behaviour and how it might impact the
children. If adults shout demands then the child is not in a calm and welcoming environment. This can
result in the child not able to work and reach full potential. Some actions that the adults have shown
towards children can have an impact on their self esteem and well being. This is because the adults
have abuse the power over children either by threatening or violence as they have lost control. It can
also have an effect on how the child behaves. For example, if the adult is being violence towards
children then the child might do this in the setting and hit other children. With Ginnott s model he
believes that adults should not argue, does not criticise and invite children to take part in activities. As
a practitioner, it is important you treat the children and young people with respect as they will
understand how they should be behave. If you are not consistent in promoting positive behaviour or
deal with unwanted behaviour can have an impact on how children react to the strategies you

Imoinda is the only female character that receives some attention from the narrator. Imoinda is
Oroonoko s lover and eventually his wife. She has very little power in the narrative since she is part of
two repressed groups (slave and woman) (Ibbotson). She is praised by the narrator for her beauty and
her loyalty. These are the traits that make her special but also responsible for the fact that she has little
influence over what happens to her. Beauty makes her desirable for men regardless of whether she
wants them to fall in love with her or not. This can be seen in the old king. Loyalty to her husband is
what causes her demise since his desires are her desires, her loyalty causes her to act as he wishes her
to. This is also why she lets ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

her face has been torn off. She suffered all these brutalities by the hands of men who either wanted to

narrator states: Yet, I hope, the reputation of my pen is considerable enough to make his glorious name

Offerings To An Ulcerated God Analysis
My favorite poem was Offerings to an Ulcerated God by Martin Espada. The reason for this is it was
the only poem that really made me empathize and feel emotions for the characters. It jumps right in
with a quote from the landlord s lawyer. He says Mrs. Lopez refuses to pay rent and so she has to
leave. Mrs. Lopez is the tenet and only speaks spanish, so the judge ask for an interpreter. But, all the
interpreters are working elsewhere. A volunteer interpreter stands and Mrs. Lopez shows the
interpreter pictures of her apartment/house. The conditions in this apartment/ house are horrible. It has
rats, no doorknob and the water in the toilet is frozen. Mrs. Lopez tells the interpreter that she knows
the law, will not pay because of the horrible conditions and wants to speak. Without hearing from Mrs.
Lopez, the judge states that she must pay and has 10 days to leave. Everyone accepts this gets up to
leave. The interpreter is ashamed he could not help her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Martin Espada certainly has that gift. On Line # 3 4, the landlord says Mrs. Lopez, must pay and they
want her out. But, it s how he says it that brings up an image in my mind. He tugs at his ring while he
says it, and that just brings up an image in my mind of someone tugging on there ring. Secondly, on
line #12, it says Mrs. Lopez help up a poker hand of snapshots. This very clearly describes exactly
how she held up her photos, and also tells us she has quite a few photos. Line # 24, Martin Espada
writes, the courtroom clattered with the end of business. The reader suddenly knows and can picture in
there head exactly what happens. Finally, on line 30 31, it says, Mrs. Lopez stood before the bench,
still holding up her fan of snapshots. In my head, I just pictures this poor lady who doesn t know if she

cash from sales) and external sources of finance from outside the business (e.g. a bank loan). There is
a need of external financing for the expansion through acquisition. External financing is a good source
of raising money besides internal funds. As per business finance, external financing can take the shape
of two different types of financing, debt or equity. Debt financing includes bank loans where a
company gets financed by issuing debentures which they have to pay back after a certain period of
time. It is called debt financing because the company is in debt to the bond holders and if they were to
go bankrupt, the bond holders would have claim to any remaining assets. In this case these are secured
business loans. Equity financing is when a company decides to give up ownership in the company to
raise funds. This is usually done by selling company stock to investors. Sometimes this could include
seeking out angel investors or venture capitalists. If you are expecting to get external financing
through equity financing make sure that your business has a product or service that is unique, and that
there is a high demand for your product or service. Most venture capital investors or even angel
investors will not look at an offer unless they see a large growth potential. (2)

Archetypal Patterns In Little Miss Sunshine And As I Lay...
Characters in stories follow archetypal patterns, whether it is something as simple as hero vs. villain,
or something more elaborate like a scapegoat or a rake. In the movie Little Miss Sunshine we follow
the Hoover family on their quest to fulfill self motivated goals, similar to that of the novel As I Lay
Dying by William Faulkner. In the novel, Faulkner sets up the premise for one of the most widely
accepted journey plots in literature, and the archetypal themes are carried over into the movie Little
Miss Sunshine. There are many parallels between the novel and the movie, including the more
contemporary ideas of a journey portrayed in Little Miss Sunshine. Following an archetypal basis, the
movie provides the audience with the hardships ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With a primary goal in mind, they must reach California in order for Olive to compete in the pageant
similar to the goal set in mind of the Bundrens (Arndt). Using the model that As I Lay Dying puts for
the journey archetype, Little Miss Sunshine follows a similar flow of journey, obstacle, and repeat.
The first real obstacle that the Hoovers encounter is their car breaking down. Similar to the loss of the
wagon that the Bundrens suffered at the river, their means of transportation is sabotaged. While the
Hoover s solution was much simpler, just having to push [the car] up to ten, fifteen miles an hour to
get the transmission into gear, the obstacle that was placed in front of them was still big enough to
cause them a delay on their time sensitive quest (Arndt). The modern idea of poverty is also another
big obstacle that the Hoovers must overcome. Coming from a lower class family, their car breaks
down; they don t have any insurance, and are unable to take care of grandpa after he passes away.
Having to resort to drastic measures, most of their decisions aren t thought through very carefully and
are instead sporadic and on the spot. Being virtually broke, Richard has to juggle his personal and
professional life, teaching twenty students in a classroom that could seat two hundred (Arndt). Life
itself is a task to

Immigration in New York Essay
Immigration in New York
I was born 23 years ago in the Dominican Republic, an island located in the Greater Antilles. There is
a saying from my country that goes Mi tiera mi corazon meaning my country my love, which explain
exactly how I felt about the Dominican Republic. To me the Island of Santo Domingo is the greatest in
the World; there are beautiful people, gorgeous weather and all the mangoes I could have eaten. Then
one day my parents gave me the bad news, they were moving to this place called New York, they told
my brother and me that they would send for us later. That was 12 years ago and now here I am living
in New York, the greatest city in the world, next to my Santo Domingo. When I was younger New

The Netherlands permitted so many non Dutch to settle there, because few Danes desired to leave
their country. Thus the Dutch East India Company recruited settlers from a number of European
countries and transported African slaves. In 1664 the British seized New Amsterdam and renamed it
New York, the city retained its remarkable mix of people. It is only fitting that New York would
become the most diverse city in the world.
At the turn of the 20th century, New York was and is still is the preeminent American city and Gotham
represented the new metropolis. there were millions of European Immigrants coming to New York, the
city was at its peak. Men like Rockefeller, Carnegie and others help turn the city into a bustling
Metropolis. Immigration was the epicenter of New York. Since the colonial period much of New York
s growth has resulted from immigration, both from other States and from abroad.
Before the American Revolution the Dutch, English, Scots and Germans were the primary settlers;
they were followed in the first half of the 19th century by New Englanders spreading across
developing Parts of upstate New York and into Westchester and northern long Island. The influx of
European immigrants came first from Northern and Central part of Europe and later from southern
countries. While often not educated, they came in large numbers; Italians came by the millions, next
were Jews who came from Russia, Poland and Romania. This

Risk and Return
Return, Risk and The Security Market Line An Introduction to Risk and Return
Whether it is investing, driving or just walking down the street, everyone exposes themselves to risk.
Your personality and lifestyle play a big role in how much risk you are comfortably able to take on. If
you invest in stocks and have trouble sleeping at night, you are probably taking on too much risk. (For
more insight, see A Guide to Portfolio Construction.) Risk is defined as the chance that an investment
s actual return will be different than expected. This includes the possibility of losing some or all of the
original investment.

The variance of a portfolio s return is a function of the variance of the component assets as well as the
covariance between each of them. Covariance is a measure of the degree to which returns on two risky
assets move in tandem. A positive covariance means that asset returns move together. A negative
covariance means returns move inversely. Covariance is closely related to correlation, wherein the
difference between the two is that the latter factors in the standard deviation.
Modern portfolio theory says that portfolio variance can be reduced by choosing asset classes with a
low or negative covariance, such as stocks and bonds. This type of diversification is used to reduce
risk.
Portfolio variance looks at the covariance or correlation coefficient for the securities in the portfolio.

Just as I was about to rejoin the others, something tackled Superboy sending both of them through the

to run down my spine. Looking up, the figure of Sportsmaster stands menacingly above me. For a
second, I swear I heard a chuckle coming from behind his mask, but it was short lived when he throws
a live grenade at me; it lands perfectly on my flat chest.
Don t even bother Kyle, that thing won t kill you.
Grinning cockily, I patiently wait for it to go off. Then, it clicks, but instead of a loud boom, it releases

How Does Ray Bradbury Use Light And Dark In Fahrenheit 451
Title
In Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451, he uses light and dark as contrasts is used as a motif to help further
develop differences between people in society through characterization and plot. Light symbolizes
knowledge and purity; on the other hand, darkness shows ignorance in the society, while also being a
form of safety. Bradbury uses light versus dark to compare purity and ignorance through
characterization. Before Montag found the value behind books, he would come home from his job of
burning books. The first night of meeting Clarisse while walking home from work, he describes her
face as a fragile milk crystal with a soft and constant light in it. It was not a hysterical light of
electricity but what? But the strangely comfortable

International Logistics
Logistics
Logistics is the management of the flow of goods, information and other resources, including energy
and people, between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet the
requirements of consumers (frequently, and originally, military organizations). Logistics involves the
integration of information, transportation, inventory, warehousing, material handling, and packaging,
and occasionally security. Logistics is a channel of the supply chain which adds the value of time and
place utility. Today the complexity of production logistics can be modeled, analyzed, visualized and
optimized by plant simulation software.

Third party logistics(3PL)
Third party logistics involves the utilization of external organizations to execute logistics activities
that have traditionally been performed within an organization itself. According to this definition, third
party logistics includes any form of outsourcing of logistics activities previously performed in house.
If, for example, a company with its own transport facilities decides to employ external warehouse
specialist, this would be an example of third party logistics.
Business logistics
Logistics as a business concept evolved only in the 1950s. This was mainly due to the increasing
complexity of supplying one s business with materials and shipping out products in an increasingly
globalized supply chain, calling for experts in the field who are called Supply Chain Logisticians. This
can be defined as having the right item in the right quantity at the right time at the right place for the
right price in the right condition to the right customer and is the science of process and incorporates all
industry sectors. The goal of logistics work is to manage the fruition of project life cycles, supply
chains and resultant efficiencies.
In business, logistics may have either internal focus (inbound logistics), or external focus (outbound
logistics)

Organization Overview J. Willard Marriott and Alice, his wife, started their entrepreneurship in 1927
by opening an A W root beer stand with nine seats in Washington D.C. (Marriott, 2017). Seizing an
opportunity, the Marriott s decided to diversify the A W root beer menu by incorporating hot food
items, thus creating Hot Shoppes. When the business strategy called for expansion in 1928, two
additional Hot Shoppes opened creating the first East Coast drive in (Marriott, 2017). Concentrating
on other areas of development, Hot Shoppes delivered boxed lunches to the Hoover Airport in
Washington D.C. in 1937. During the mid 1960s, Hot Shoppes reached its pinnacle with
approximately 75 stores in roughly a dozen states (Ambrose, 1999). Changing times caused the
Marriott to re examine the restaurant strategy and realized that they should sell off the profitable, slow
growing family restaurant that included the Roy Rogers Family Restaurants and Bob s Big Boy
(Ambrose, 1999). Sadly, the last Hot Shoppes closed in December of 1999, which ended the Marriott
restaurant experience. However, long before Hot Shoppes closed, the couple discerns that the
hospitality industry is the new corporate focus. The Marriott s opened the

P3 Describe the main physical and technological resources required in the operation of a selected
organisation.
M1 explain how the management of human, physical and technological resources can improve the
performance of a selected organisation.
In this assignment I will describe the main physical and technological resources required in an
organisation, and how the management of human, physical and technological resources can improve
the performance of Tesco.
Physical resources
Some of the main physical resources for Tesco are; their premises, machinery, equipment, materials
and their stock. I have listed these as the main resources required as they are huge factoring reasons as
to why and how Tesco makes such huge amounts of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Budgets must be closely monitored (and stuck to) in order to fully achieve to the businesses maximum
potential. The processes and internal techniques must be managed and all resources must be
effectively used. It is very important for a business such as Tesco to manage their resources and
control their costs in order to budget. Managing resources and controlling costs to a budget is very
beneficial for Tesco as it involves a lot of different resources and money is always flowing in and out
of the business, which, if managed well, will improve the performance of Tesco.
Managing physical resources is very important as they are essential for the day to day running of the
business. Tescos management should do things such as check their machinery, equipment and
premises regularly to make sure that everything is efficiently working and also to help Tesco improve
their overall performance. It is also very important that Tesco provides employees with suitable
induction and training programmes on how to operate new machinery so they are up to date in the
knowledge of use and know how it can be used most effectively. If an employee isn t familiar with
how to use a piece of machinery, the efficiency of the business will be decreased. Tesco has many
physical resources that should be effectively managed; such as their entrance and reception (customer
services), which should be kept tidy, organised, and any damages (such as the fire damage as a recent

The Cost Effectiveness Of A Drug Or Treatment
Rising healthcare costs are a growing concern among individuals, employers, and the federal
government. The national conversation on how to best control those costs has forced many drug
manufacturers to reevaluate the economics of new, expensive drugs and therapies. Now more than
ever, the need to evaluate outcomes and costs associated with alternative treatments has never been
greater.
Understanding the cost effectiveness of a drug or treatment can be a challenge. Clinical trials are
traditionally performed on subsets of the population in tightly controlled environments for a relatively
short time. They are primarily responsible for evaluating treatment efficacy. But pressure to control
healthcare costs has increased the emphasis on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chance nodes (circles) depict the possible consequence positive or negative of the decision. They are
referred to as transition states. Transition probabilities are assigned to each transition state and they
must always sum to one. Triangles indicate the point at which the analysis ends and the health impact
and/or costs of each consequence is quantified. When decision tree analysis is done at the same time
as the clinical trial, the payoff may also be expressed as utilities. Utility can be described in numerous
ways. For example, as a percentage of full health. A value of 0.7 corresponds to a person living at 70%
of full health. Another way to express utility is quality adjusted life years (QALY). Expected value of
each therapy is calculated by multiplying the payoff (dollars, percent, QALYS etc.) with the
probability of occurrence for every possible transition state.
While decision trees are simple to comprehend, complicated real world scenarios cannot be
adequately modeled with basic decision tree analysis. The tree cannot model repetitive events or
transitions back and forth between two states. To model repetitive events or transitions backward
would require numerous repetitive transition states. Trying to create a path for every possible scenario
can quickly lead to a complicated, unmanageable decision tree.
Another inherent limitation of decision tree analysis is its stagnant nature. Model conditions, such as
transition probabilities or costs, are not

The Effects Of Stress On Captive Zoo Animals
Introduction.
The effects of stress on captive zoo animals has been a major concern among zoologists as well as
zookeepers in recent years (Fernandez et al.2009). In previous studies, one of the major factors
inducing stress in captive animals that appears to have been overlooked, are the noise levels created by
the presence of zoo visitors and the effectiveness of the design of indoor zoo exhibits in reducing the
noise levels in particular. While research exists showing that the presence of zoo visitors can be a
source of enrichment for captive animals, particularly those who are social by nature, further
investigations have indicated that visitor presence can in fact be a source of stress in non social species
including felids (Hosey 2000). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This study will look at the effectiveness of the exhibit design in preventing noise pollution caused by
the increased number of visitors to the Milwaukee County Zoo jaguar exhibit. The exhibit which
contains both an indoor portion which is designed to resemble the jaguar s native jungle habitat as
well as an outdoor portion, currently houses three adult jaguars, Pat, Stella, and Francisco. Both Pat,
who is 16 years old and formally a Problem jaguar from Belize, and Stella who came to the
Milwaukee County Zoo in 2005, live together as a breeding pair (K. Kuhn in conversation). Francisco
is the 2 year old son of Pat and Stella and lives alone (K. Kuhn in conversation). Over the course of
six weeks, I will be collecting data using Wensen WS1361C decibel meters which are equipped with
data loggers. The decibel meters will be used both inside and outside the jaguar exhibit to determine
the effectiveness of the exhibit design. To analyze the zoo visitor effect, as well as the frequency of
stress related behavioral responses observed, data will be collected during on three different days of
the week both through observation of the jaguars as well as later analysis of the data recorded by the
decibel meters. Data will be collected both on days where zoo visitation is predicted to increase,
which are designated as Family Free Days, where visitors receive free admission as well as Non
Family Free days and Thursday afternoons where a decrease in zoo visitation is predicted for
observation time totaling a minimum of 15 hours. The recorded data will then be analyzed to
determine if the increased noise pollution created by an increase in zoo visitors will correlate with an
increase in stress related behavioral responses by the jaguars.

  • 2. Persecution Of Christian Persecution In the year 64, a fire started somewhere in the streets of Rome. Wind spread the fire across the city, burning down the palace. Following this, Emperor Nero put the blame on the Christians, marking the first record of Christian persecution by the roman government. For the next 200+ years, there have been on and off bouts of persecution, ranging from Trajan forcing suspected Christians to prove their innocence by worshipping roman gods in the early 100 s to Valerian ordering the execution of church bishops and other church leaders in 258. While there were years of tolerance for Christians, the ever changing stance of the Roman government toward Christianity made life difficult for those who believed. The persecution reached new levels during Diocletian s reign in the 300 s with the removal of Christians from the army and the rise of many people with anti Christian beliefs to positions of power. In 303, a more general persecution of Christians began with a series of edicts ordering the destruction and seizure of church property and arrest of church leaders and the requirement of all people to make sacrifices to the roman gods on the pain of death if refused. These policies were implemented to varying degrees across the roman empire; however, the general persecution of Christians still took place. The empire wide persecutions continued until Diocletian and Maximian resigned in 305, leaving the leadership and morale of the church in shambles. When Constantius and Galerius took ... • 3. Prejudice and Racism in Conrad’s Heart of Darkness Essay Racism in Conrad s Heart of Darkness Imagine floating up the dark waters of the Congo River in the Heart of Africa. The calmness of the water and the dense fog make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck as you wonder if the steamboats crew will eat you as you sleep. These things occur in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Although the book is undeniably racist, was the author, Joseph Conrad, racist? Conrad was racist because he uses racial slurs, the slavery and unfair treatment of the native Africans in his book. The use of racist language is very prevalent in Heart of Darkness. Conrad, through Marlow, the main character, uses the word nigger when talking about native Africans on many occasions. The fool nigger had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A normal person today would feed and pay those who work for them. It is considered morally sound to do this. In Heart of Darkness, no one thinks it is wrong to not feed or pay those who work for you. It would be considered wrong to help feed the workers who are starving. Conrad raises no point in his book that this act is unacceptable. Conrad then believes it is okay. In Heart of Darkness,it is considered reasonable to make the natives at fault for things management has done. The manager sets Marlow s trade goods on fire and blames a native for the blaze. This act dehumanized the native much like a slave. Black figures strolled about listlessly, pouring water on the glow, whence proceeded a sound of hissing; steam ascended in the moonlight; the beaten nigger groaned somewhere. (Conrad 28) If the native people in Heart of Darkness were paid for their work it would be so minute that the natives would hardly be able to buy enough food to bring themselves out of starvation. Besides that, they had given them every week three pieces of brass wire each about nine inches long, and the theory was they were to buy their provisions with that currency in river side villages. (Conrad 42) The natives who received the wire never had a chance to use it because the boat never stopped at any villages. Conrad s relaxed writing style makes it sound humorous that the natives were treated unfairly and that is very racist. The unfair treatment of the

Now that might sound very disturbing, but you would be in separate bath tubs, that is beginning to sound a little better, but you would probably still want a separate room for privacy. Well you wouldn t get that kind of privacy if you went to Bathhouse Row in Hot Springs, Arkansas that provide bathing and therapeutic practices. Bathhouse Row is a line of bathhouses located in Hot Springs National Park. These bathhouses were included with four parcels to preserve 47 natural hot springs in 1832. The first bathhouses were log and wood frame structures, built from 1830 to the late 19th century. Hale, and was the first of bathhouses to offer modern conveniences. The last building and also the most northern building is the Superior, completed in 1916. The building is two stories, with an L shaped basement containing about 23 rooms and more than 10,000 square feet built of masonry and reinforced concrete. The building was damaged by a flood in 1923 and remodeling was somewhat done in the 1930s. Whirlpool equipment was installed in 1962 and air conditioning in 1971. Then the Superior closed in 1983 and the furnishings inside were sold at an auction. Currently the Buckstaff, Fordyce, and Administration building are the only buildings open to the public. The Buckstaff is the only bathhouse that still provides baths and other services. Fordyce was restored in 1989 and is converted into the park s visitor center. Each bathhouse is set back the same distance from the sidewalk and has green spaces/garden in front. They each have similar height, scale, and proportions. The needs for bathhouses are no longer needed since the advancements in medicine and the high costs of medical care have reduced bathing for physical therapy. For Hot Springs, Arkansas the residents see the bathhouses as a form of architectural core for downtown. • 6. The Iranian Revolution Essay The emergence of the Islamic Republic in late 1970 s Iran demonstrates how middle class Iranian people purged themselves of the Pahlavi Dynasty in an effort to continue down a more righteous and egalitarian path. As a result, the country underwent a complete social upheaval and in its place grew an overtly oppressive regime based in theoretical omnipotence. In response to this regime, the very structure of political and social life was shaken and fundamentally transformed as religion and politics became inexorable. As a result, gender roles and the battle between public and private life were redrawn. Using various primary and secondary sources I will show how the Revolution shaped secular middle class Iranians. Further, I will show how the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, the author recalls the Iranian government closing down all bilingual schools or any other symbols of capitalism and decadence . These became symbols of regression in the eyes of the Ayatollah and everyone must conform. The author struggles with the very idea of politics and religion during this period as laws of forced veiling and oppression came into conflict with her preconceptions of religion. The author cites an instances where the police locked the outside doors of an Iranian cinema, set it on fire, and prohibited people from rescuing those inside. According to the text, The BBC said there were 400 victims. The shah said that a group of religious fanatics perpetrated the massacre. But the people knew that it was the Shah s fault. The secular Iranian perspective of the injustices being committed by the newly formed Islamic Republic was troubling. A release was sought by this group of people, the only problem was enjoying life and not getting caught. Enjoying life during the Islamic Republic included nothing inferred by the word enjoy . Anything that was enjoyed such as drinking alcohol, dancing at concerts, or commiserating in a party setting was forbidden and punishable by law. As a result, Iranians ran the risk of getting caught and did these things conspicuously. • 7. October Revolution Problems Lenin and Problems After the October Revolution The initial difficulties faced by the new Soviet Union were to severe that its survival seemed almost miraculous. The remains of the czarist regime left Lenin to face a country wrought with war, devastated economically. Russia s involvement in World War I, followed by its Civil War, wide spread famine and a change in political and social ideology were the problems confronting Lenin after the October Revolution. Lenin did succeed in ending both the war with Germany and the Civil War for Russia. Yet, the economic and social aspects of the revolution can be more critically assessed. As in the case of the World War, a simple end to the fighting did not signify an end to the devastation that had been left as a consequence. The economic and social problems that arose from the end of the czarist regime were dealt with by Lenin initially unsuccessfully. War communism, a forced socialized economic policy began with the confiscation of surplus grain. It then extended to all other products. Abusive detachments fought peasant resistance with the terror of the Red Army, and in 1919 when they gained control, with the Extraordinary Commission (Cheka). What Lenin had thought would bring the triumph of communism rendered only misery and disorder. The Kronstadt Revolt in February, 1921 is an example of the indignation felt by those that saw the Bolshevik s policies as too oppressive. Finally, Lenin sees that a transition period is necessary, and denounces war communism for its impractical severity. Up until this point the disastrous economic and social problems of the nation were not dealt with successfully. Both World War I and the Civil War left rampant destruction in Russia s agricultural production. Drought as well as the failure of war communism led to wide spread famine. At this point Lenin introduced gradual economic measures that began as agricultural policies. According to British historian E.H. Carr, Lenin s New Economic Policy increased from food production to trade, to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Artificial Intelligence And The Military Practical Artificial Intelligence in the Military The idea of artificial intelligence has been around for thousands of years. Ancient Greek myths talk about how machines were made to perform tasks for their creators. The most basic forms of artificial intelligence arose from people creating machinery to do tasks for them, such as using windmills to mill grain or retrieve water from the ground, deriving formulas of math to reach answers quicker, or to print books that would have to be hand written before. Just recently, artificial intelligence has started being implemented into the military. The expansion and development of artificial intelligence in the military is safe. It will ultimately remove humans from the battlefield and/or equip them with technologically advanced gear that will help prevent injuries during war that would otherwise be fatal. At this point in time it seems rather outlandish to have machines or supersoldiers (people aided by technology in war) to be sent off to war to fight for our safety. However, these forms of A.I. are not completely polished but, they are on the horizon and will help greatly reduce the toll that tragedies of war have on the United States. War would be exponentially safer for our country and soldiers if artificial intelligence is used properly. The United States needs to realize how war is going to be fought in the future. According to The New York Times article, Artificial Intelligence in the Next War, officials of the United ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anyone with siblings can relate to this pressure cooker atmosphere when you have just had enough. There is a battle between savage and civility, both inside the camp and outside. The eldest Bielski sets the tone for the behavior for those within his camp stating, [w]e may be hunted like animals, but we will not become animals (Zwick, Defiance). Tensions continue to rise to the point of an altercation, leading to a separation in the Bielski clan Zus joins the Russian army rebels who are also hiding out in the forest. The director shows the stark difference between the brothers when it comes to taking a life, Tuvia going out of his way not to pull the trigger and Zus not hesitating one second. Both are leaders but with differing views of what being a leader means. The winter came, and brought with it sickness, strife, starvation, death and more Jewish refugees. • 12. Argumentative Essay On Yoga Yoga has been associated with stress. The larger the amount of stress a person has, the less likely that person is to feel in control of themselves and their surroundings. Yoga has also been linked to a person s health and wellbeing. During a one week experiment, a researcher did yoga once a day at 7:00 pm for a half hour. A survey was taken twice, in hour intervals, after the yoga session was completed, at 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm. The surveys are what was used to find the data that created the results of the experiment. One type of yoga, integrated yoga, was used throughout the week. The results concluded yoga helps relieve stress for one hour after the session was completed, but was stressed again shortly after that hour was finished. Different styles of yoga classes could be offered and more times could be made available at the Elmen Center. Yoga is currently offered at 4:30 pm in the Back Alley, but more class times could be 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm. Different styles include hot yoga, iyengar yoga, or hatha yoga. To improve evaluations, a person could add questions about their level of stress before and after the yoga class. These improvements will allow researchers to see if the results are true for the majority of people. Because of this, it is been taught for millennials that meat is an essential to our bodies for survival and health. While we are capable of eating meat, the question is, should we? Firstly, humans do not need to eat meat, or any other animal products for that matter, for survival. Modern day humans are not living in the same conditions as early humans were, making it unnecessary for us to consume animal products. Humans have had omnivorous diets since the beginning of mankind, and this has been an argument that is oftenly used against veganism. Early humans were scavengers and ate whatever they could find for the purpose of survival and it is believed that humans ate a majority of meat, however scientific studies have shown otherwise. In a study conducted, plant derived fiber was the majority of what was found in early human feces (nutritionfacts.org). Vegaprocity (vegaprocity.com) shows that both carnivores and omnivores require fiber to stimulate peristalsis, while all herbivores, frugivores, and humans do require fiber to stimulate peristalsis, however in America, usually less than half the recommended fiber intake a day is consumed (nutritionfacts.org). While there is no denial that early humans did not hunt and eat animals, this suggests that the majority of what was ate ate was not meat, but in fact plants and herbs. When compared to carnivores, humans show more similarity to herbivores and frugivores. One of the common arguments used in opposition to veganism is that humans are supposed to eat meat because the mechanism of our body suggest so. This, however, is false. There is a need of external financing for the expansion through acquisition. External financing is a good source of raising money besides internal funds. As per business finance, external financing can take the shape of two different types of financing, debt or equity. Debt financing includes bank loans where a company gets financed by issuing debentures which they have to pay back after a certain period of time. It is called debt financing because the company is in debt to the bond holders and if they were to go bankrupt, the bond holders would have claim to any remaining assets. In this case these are secured business loans. Equity financing is when a company decides to give up ownership in the company to raise funds. This is usually done by selling company stock to investors. Sometimes this could include seeking out angel investors or venture capitalists. If you are expecting to get external financing through equity financing make sure that your business has a product or service that is unique, and that there is a high demand for your product or service. Transition probabilities are assigned to each transition state and they must always sum to one. Triangles indicate the point at which the analysis ends and the health impact and/or costs of each consequence is quantified. When decision tree analysis is done at the same time as the clinical trial, the payoff may also be expressed as utilities. Utility can be described in numerous ways. For example, as a percentage of full health. A value of 0.7 corresponds to a person living at 70% of full health. Another way to express utility is quality adjusted life years (QALY). Expected value of each therapy is calculated by multiplying the payoff (dollars, percent, QALYS etc.) with the probability of occurrence for every possible transition state. While decision trees are simple to comprehend, complicated real world scenarios cannot be adequately modeled with basic decision tree analysis. The tree cannot model repetitive events or transitions back and forth between two states. To model repetitive events or transitions backward would require numerous repetitive transition states. The decibel meters will be used both inside and outside the jaguar exhibit to determine the effectiveness of the exhibit design. To analyze the zoo visitor effect, as well as the frequency of stress related behavioral responses observed, data will be collected during on three different days of the week both through observation of the jaguars as well as later analysis of the data recorded by the decibel meters. Data will be collected both on days where zoo visitation is predicted to increase, which are designated as Family Free Days, where visitors receive free admission as well as Non Family Free days and Thursday afternoons where a decrease in zoo visitation is predicted for observation time totaling a minimum of 15 hours. The recorded data will then be analyzed to determine if the increased noise pollution created by an increase in zoo visitors will correlate with an increase in stress related behavioral responses by the jaguars. ...
