My Personal Cultural Identity
Do you ever get that preconceived look from others? When they judged you by your facial expression
or your race. Do people constantly question what you think you are because you share aspects of
different cultures but they do not notice their own? When people look at me they see a stereotypical
black girl they assume you know all of the latest dances and slang. When you talk people
automatically assume that you do not know the basics of grammar but they soon find out that you do
just in time for them to tell you that you talk like a white person. My cultural identity is not one of a
strictly African American nature. My individual culture is an assortment of features that stem from my
friends and family. The organized lifestyle, religion, values and traditions, I ve gotten from my mother
along with the music, clothes and pastime activities I share with my friends all come together as the ...

Most of the older people in our family have various health issues such as: diabetes, high blood
pressure and heart disease. A high percentage of African Americans have been diagnosed with diabetes
and high blood pressure which tends to lead to heart disease. They are not always preventable but can
be offset for a while with exercise and good nutrition. To prevent becoming like them we try to
maintain a healthy lifestyle. My mother and aunt watch what they eat and walk everyday. I on the
other hand take dance for exercise and when I am not at dance I also walk. We try to keep fried foods
and desserts(sugar) to a minimum. We tend to plan all meals in advance in an effort to watch calories,
sugar intake and carbohydrates. We also drink a lot of water leaving sugary drinks alone. My mother
has watch the majority of her family deal with diabetes so she has taught me to be careful and to
realize that it also may be hereditary. The only thing we can do is try not to be diagnosed at an early

Antigone Moral
What is the Moral of the Story?
What s the overall message that Peter J. Ahrensdorf and Thomas L. Pangle are trying to portray to
their audience.? Well, after reading the play and being able to analyze the story a little more in depth, I
came up with two probable answers. First, I think the author s trying to describe Antigone as this
antagonist, who s against all odds throughout the play. She s a young girl who refuses to let anyone
tell her what to do. Her self morals of loyalty and courage outweigh any consequence that s willing to
come her way. Antigone ends up pushing her limits by finally forcing Creon to punish her by sticking
her in a cave and locking her in there, but in the end Creon changes his. He finally understands what
needs to be done; He finally kind of sees eye to eye and allows Antigone to bury her brother. So, in the
end, I interpreted this as the author telling us don t give up for what we believe in, no matter how big
or small of a stretch it is, because in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an audience, we learn that only if you are buried probably with all the rituals that go along with it,
will you rest peacefully. Also, we learn that Antigone say s her soul will not rest easily if she does not
give her brother the proper burial that he deserves. That s why she does everything in her will power
to accomplish to difficult task. We also learn that the authority side has an agreement that not traitor to
their country should be put to rest on a proper burial. So, this is where we see the two sides clash, the
religious belief vs the authority. Now, we can see that there is no meaningful conversation between the
two sides to try and seek this dilemma out. Matter of fact, it s just each side clashing at the other
explaining their argument of why they are right. It s basically one big protest, that leads to some

Complexity Of Airplane Essay
The dream of flight is as old as mankind itself (Leonardo DaVinci, April 14, 1489)however, the
concept of an airplane is only a few centuries old. airplanes are the only vehicle that make traveling
hundreds of miles a task that can be done in just one to two hours. Trucks, boats or even race cars can
t even come close to the speed of the average commercial aircraft. The Complexity of the plane dates
back to many years of researching about the four forces and creating an aerodynamic flight
method(National Aeronautics Space Administration, 2006, Pg. 2). Leonardo DaVinciand the Wright
brothers were just a small few of the first plane pioneers.
The very first step made towards flight was Leonardo DiVinci s Ornithopter . TheOrnithopter was a
self propelled wing suit that attempted to mimic the flight of birds and bats.(Wright Brothers, 1999,
Page 7) DaVinci wanted the device to allow people to propel themselves and allow them to fly. The
problem was that the Ornithopterwas to heavy and could not fly. ... Show more content on

Drag is the force that pulls an airplane backwards. With too much drag an airplane will not be able to
fly forwards. However, with too little drag an airplane will not be able to correctly balance.(NASA,
2015, Pg 17.) Although a plane tries to overcome drag, it actually creates it.(Wright Brothers Int,
2001,) Anything that flies will create drag, the bigger the object the more the drag. To overcome drag,
an airplane is designed to be able to cut through the air.(NASA, 2015, Pg 1.) The best example of this
is in the wings. Wings on a plane tend to have a design that is thin and sharp in the front and gets
thicker as it moves down. Planes also have a very sharp nose(very front tip of the plane) along with a
pointed rudder (the tail of an airplane).(NASA, 2015, Pg. 3)Having all of these pointed parts allows an
airplane tominimise the amount of drag it has, ultimately allowing it to

Similarities Between Gary Goss Pleasantville And Blue Velvet
While suburbia is not quite a city to be registered as a cinematic city, it has its own specific way of life
just any city does. The speciality of suburbia though, is that it can be branded, sold and recreated in
most places in America. It is the complete full circle of the American Dream, or better yet it is the
trademarked edition. The 1950 s are thought of as the peak, or stereotypical best, the American Dream
with the white picket fence, 2.5 kids, and a hot meal waiting for you when you get home. While this
idea may be postcard or billboard perfect, it is not as perfect for everyone involved or for the future
when it looked at from under the service. Gary Ross Pleasantville and David Lynch s Blue Velvet both
explore the idea of the suburban American Dream and that it is not as squeaky clean perfection as it
seems.
Gary Ross Pleasantville is the story of two modern day children being magically zapped into a TV
Land esque show, called Pleasantville, about stereotypical perfect 1950 s life in the suburbs.

The Bank of New York and it s History Essay
The Bank of New York and it s History On February 23, 1784, a small advertisement appeared in The
New York Packet, one of the many New York newspapers of that era. This advertisement announced
that prominent New York citizens had established a bank. The bank, established by the prominent,
would not officially open for business until June 9, 1784. That bank would come to be known as the
bank of New York. Alexander Hamilton, a well known New York attorney, was asked to write the
constitution of the new bank. He complied and therefore Alexander Hamilton was credited with the
founding of the Bank of New York. The Bank of New York is the oldest bank in New York and along

In 1969, through the establishment of a bank holding company, the Bank expanded beyond New York
City, establishing a suburban branch network that remains today.
Global expansion began with an office in London in 1966, but a major breakthrough occurred with the
acquisition of The Irving Bank Corporation in 1988. This acquisition created the tenth largest bank at
that time and set the stage for what the Bank of New York is today. The acquisitions of National
Community Banks in New Jersey and The Putnam Trust Company in Connecticut in the 1990 s
continued the expansion of the Bank of New York s branch network. The Bank of New York has had a
series of business acquisitions in securities servicing that enabled them to become a recognized leader
in that area. Over the last several decades, the corporate branch of the Bank of New York has come to
be known as a banker to the largest corporations in America and in special industries such as
telecommunications and energy. In closing, it is rare for a business or institution to last over 200 years

Racism In The Film Remember The Titans
There are many people in our world today, that believe racism is a problem of the past, that
segregation and inequality are expressions that are not relevant today. The cold heart felt reality of this
statement is that racism, is even more alive in our world today, than ever before. Circumstances such
as, Caucasians being paid more than African Americans for the same job and Caucasian police officers
gunning down innocent African Americans and being acquitted for it, are just some examples of the
racial tensions in our society today. The people that believe racism is no longer a problem in this
world, are simply ignoring the recent and past tragedies of African Americans. The inequalities this
minority group has endured, has caught the attention of certain groups of people, that are trying to
bring change, by taking a stand for a solution. In this challenge, the media has been very effective, in
not only bringing the problems to the surface but also in seeking to effect resolutions. Throughout our
countries past, the media, and even more specifically, movies, have been a powerful tool in bringing
light of many types of injustices brought onto minority groups. A prime example of a movie that
presents some of these issues is Remember the Titans . Throughout this essay, I will be analyzing this
film, identifying some of the aspects of the film s form, content and symbolism, regarding the impact
on American culture, that can be seen within it.

The Wars By Timothy Findley
According to Brandon Mull, the New York Times bestselling author of the Beyonoders series,
...heroism means doing the right thing regardless of the consequence (Mull 39). In The Wars by
Timothy Findley, the protagonist, Robert Ross, displays key characteristics of heroism throughout his
struggle to maintain his morality. In the novel, Robert displays an admiration for the sanctity of life, a
desire to achieve the greatest good, and a virtuous moral conscience which all contribute to him
achieving heroism in the face of adversity.
Throughout the novel, Robert displays his admiration for the sanctity of life of all sorts, whether
human or animal. Robert shared a loving relationship with his sister Rowena, whom he cared deeply
about. Early in the novel, we learn that Rowena was the first human being [Robert] remembered
seeing (Findley 14) and that their relationship escalated through the years to the point where Robert
became her guardian (14) due to the fact that she was immobilized by her hydrocehpelia. We see
through Robert s character that he has a heavy heart for his sister. Rowena s sudden death early in the
novel affects Robert s mindset as he grieves for her as he continues on his life journey. In addition to
human life, Robert shares an admiration for the sanctity of animal life as well. Most notably, are
Rowena s rabbits, which are set to be euthanized after her death which Robert objects to. In his act of
attempting to save the lives of the rabbits, he jumps on

Why Is Mahalia Jackson Called The Gospel Queen
The Gospel Queen Mahalia Jackson was known as the Gospel Queen as she lived her life inspiring
many African Americans. Jackson was born on October 26, 1911, into a poor family in New Orleans,
Louisiana. She had six people in her family: her mother, Clarity Jackson; her father, John Jackson, Sr.;
her brothers, Wilmon and John Jackson, Jr.; and her sisters, Pearl and Yvonne Jackson. Living in the
segregated South, Jackson s father had several jobs; he was a longshoreman, a barber, and a preacher.
Her mother, the one who took care of the six as a devout Baptist, unfortunately, died when Jackson
was five. Young Mahalia Jackson started singing at the age of 4 in Mount Moriah Baptist Church. In
1963, before Dr. King delivered his I Have a Dream speech, Mahalia Jackson sang an inspirational
song called I Been Buked and I Been Scorned, to over 200,000 people. Mahalia Jackson,
unfortunately, died on January 27, 1972, never fulfilling her dream of building a nondenominational
temple. Dedicated to Mahalia The Mahalia Jackson Theatre was built and is located in New Orleans,
Louisiana. It was dedicated to the Gospel Queen for letting the world experience her music. Two

Japan Population Growth Declining Birth Rate and the Problems
a) Study a country on how and why its population has aged rapidly during the last 40 or 50 years, and
analyze its consequences.
Japan s graying population: The reasons behind it, steps taken to curb it and the implications of an
aging society
Introduction
Japan has seen rapid development from the times of Meiji Restoration (1868) up till today. In fact, it
has grown more rapidly than any other countries from 1870 to 1994 (Nafziger,1995) because of the
various economic policies its government had undertaken after the war ended. Thus, as a result of this
economic growth, standard of living has gone up and along with technological advancements, Japan
enjoys one of the highest life expectancy compared to any other countries in the world ... Show more

Another reason is the economic recession. The economy was bad for Japan throughout the 1990s. The
unemployment rate rose sharply from 2% in 1990 to 5% in 2003(Suzuki, 2006). Youth was not given
an opportunity to work and those who did obtain a stable job decreased from 77.8% in 1988 to 55.8%
in 2004 and that those who obtained no job or a temporary job went up from 9.4% to 24.6% during the
same period. The proportion proceeding to higher education increased from 6.5% to 11.8% meaning
that starting a family will be delayed. .
Suzuki also mentioned that the low income of young men relative to their fathers discouraged
marriage. Previously, the income of men in their 30s were more than that of their fathers and
motivated women to marry them. Current trends, however, indicated that the relative income of young
men to old men has declined substantially and young men are less appealing as marriage partners than
before.
Problems with an aging society
One of the issues with an ageing society is that the dependency ratio of the country will increase.
Dependency ratio refers to the number of persons under age 15 plus persons aged 65 or older per one
hundred persons 15 to 64. It is the sum of the youth dependency ratio and the old age dependency
ratio. This means that as the society ages, more young people are tasked

Does The Prime Minister Have Too Much Power
The downfall of Canada and its democracy lays in the hands of the prime minister. Second to the
governor general the prime minister holds the single highest power an individual in parliament can
obtain. The unrestricted power given to them, discussed in section I, represents more of a monarchy
than a democracy and illustrates how Canada and its ideologies are being skewed and altered to
benefit the prime minister. Throughout the paper we will examine the defective parliamentary system,
addressing the specific powers that enable the prime ministers to silence Parliament. Although various
arguments are made throughout the paper, the focus will be on the overwhelming evidence supporting
the thesis that the prime minister has too much power. Section

August 22, 1965, Janet Reimer gave birth to two flawless twin baby boys, Bruce and Brian. The two
twins were everything Janet had been wanting since she was a little girl. Her life couldn t have been

A month later Janet and Ron took Bruce and Brian in for a regular circumcision. There was a terrible
mistake in Bruce s procedure. Instead of burning off the skin, Bruce s entire penis was burned. Bruce s
parents were devastated with the outcome of the procedure and they had no idea what to do.

The emergence of interacting socially through the use of the Internet began with Email. The
information contained in an Email message has the ability to be delivered instantly to one or many, as
well as forwarded to other recipients with the click of the mouse. This enables widespread, viral like
interactions to cross the plane of space and time, and impact society and culture on a global scale.
Email continues to be the largest social network online today. (Owyang, 2014) We use Email for
everything from business correspondences, to sharing photos and videos. Most Americans have at
least one email address; in fact, the average number of email accounts per person is 3.1.
(toptenreviews.com) Different uses of Email can require different email addresses. For example: one

using Email to connect to the people we know has its limitations; we need to know who the people

Material Properties Of Steel Iron
Material Properties of Steel
Steel is an alloy of iron, with carbon being the primary solute in the solid solution. It is a
polycrystalline solid with grain diameter from 10 to 20 micro meter (Ashby et al). The presence of
impurity like carbon causes the crystal lattice distortions to increase, hence making giving steel better
hardness, yield strength, and tensile strength, at the cost of ductility. Pure iron being very ductile but
comparatively weak, steel is widely because of its greater load bearing capacity. Other impurities are
also introduced into steel to produce different properties. Materials like chromium, vanadium,
titanium, boron etc. are added to steel to give it better corrosion resistance, hardness, tensile strength
and better fatigue response (Smith et al). Elements like carbon and nitrogen form take up interstitial
spaces between the iron atoms owing to their reduced atomic size (Smith et al). Elements with larger
atoms like nickel, chromium, aluminium, sulphur, phosphorus etc. act as substitutional elements
(Smith et al). Although, the inclusion of various alloying elements do alter the material property and
the crystalline structure, material property of basic steel can be understood by analyzing various
phases of iron and carbon solid solution. Considering the structural differences in steel it can be
differentiated into austentic, ferretic and martensitic.
As excessive presence of carbon in steel can render steel extremely brittle and hard, carbon

When Should Transgender Identification Begin
Research on Transgender Identification in Youth or Adulthood
The question at hand is whether or not it is more beneficial for a person with gender dysphoria to be
able to express the gender for which they identify with at a young age, or later, in adulthood.
In regards to sociology, symbolic interactionism is ideal for examining the way in which sociological
theory relates to transgender issues. This is because symbolic interactionism is the study of how
people relate to one another and their environment, but specifically how the relations between each
other have an effect on their environment. Blumer s conceptualization of symbolic interactionism,
known as the situational approach is the one most often used in sex research (Longmore, ... Show

Hopefully, by gaining insight into these interactions, it will help inform whether or not it is beneficial
for a child to be able to express their gender identity at a young age or whether it is more beneficial for
them to wait until adulthood.
A theory that would give insight into the research question in relation to psychology would be identity
theory. Stryker and Burke (2006) have the most relevant ideas on identity theory that would inform the
research question. In identity theory, it is used to show how people identify with being a particular
type of person; how they take on social roles and belong to social groups (Burke, 2006). Stryker
claimed that the greater number of people one is committed to being a certain type of person around
the more they identify with being that type of person (Burke, 2006). This poses interesting insight into
the research question of whether or not it is beneficial for a child to express their gender identity at a
young age and be out with everyone they know, or for an adult to have to slowly bring their identity
into existence among people individually and how this may have an effect on the person. Stryker also

Although the Caribbean can boast that in its short history as independent states, women have been

Similarities Between Slavery And Indentured Servants
The institutions of slavery and being an indentured servant is different yet similar. Slavery was set up
in a way that you were born into it and the only way out was death. Slavery was a system set up that
you will be enslaved for life while indentured servitude had an agreement. The agreement was that
you work like a slave for three to seven years then you would be given freedom as well as land. When
you were a slave and an indentured servant the treatment you endured was unbearable. They would
beat them for any reasons they felt necessary. These could include not picking enough cotton, not
responding when spoken too, or even talking back to your master. Many slaves and indentured
servants would die due to this treatment as well as other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the indentured servants ran away or if the women got pregnant then their time could get increased.
The masters would take them to court to see that this happened. Women that were slaves or indentured
servants received the worse treatment because they were looked upon as weaker therefore they
received more abuse including sexual abuse. When masters felt like they could not use the slaves and
indentured servants they were sold. Indentured servants and slaves were not allowed to get married.
African slaves increased because indentured servants were not good for planters needs and the whites
wanted a way to control the outstanding number of African Americans around them. Slavery was
based on the African American race and being black made them inferior to all other humans which
made slavery a hereditary condition in the world. Slaves were the key commodity of exchange. They
were sold as security for debts, for food, war, captives, military recruits, and agricultural laborers.
However, the main difference was that slaves worked with no end date, they would hope and pray that
they got out of being enslaved, but few got out alive. Although it was possible for some to escape,
some were free due to Christian baptism, and others purchased their freedom from

We Propose A Novel Framework For Tweet Segmentation
Abstract Twitter has become one of the most important communication channels with its ability
providing the most up to date and newsworthy information. Considering wide use of twitter as the

A huge amount of tweets sent per day by hundred millions of users, information overload is inevitable.
For extracting information in large volume of tweets, Named Entity Recognition (NER), methods on
formal texts. However, many applications in Information Retrieval (IR) and Natural Language
Processing (NLP) suffer severely from the noisy and short nature of tweets. In this paper, we propose
a novel framework for tweet segmentation in a batch mode, called HybridSeg by splitting tweets into
meaningful segments, the semantic or context information is well preserved and easily extracted by
the downstream applications. HybridSeg finds the optimal segmentation of a tweet by maximizing the
sum of the stickiness scores of its candidate segments. The stickiness score considers the probability
of a segment being a phrase in English (i.e., global context) and the probability of a segment being a
phrase within the batch of tweets (i.e., local context). For the latter, we propose and evaluate two
models to derive local context by considering the linguistic features and term dependency in a batch of
tweets, respectively. HybridSeg is also designed to iteratively learn from confident segments as

soul run through me and the thought of what man has made of man makes me grief. Wordsworth
draws the phrase to her fair works from the last of sentence to the first, which emphasizes the fair
works of nature.
We already mentioned that Wordsworth speaks highly of nature, here through the syntactical
deviation, we can see how Wordsworth appreciates and enjoys nature s beauty and harmony. The next
deviation appears in the third ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They hopped and played. Here again the poet uses personification to show how the birds are in accord
with nature and how happy they are. Now let s pay more attention to the second line Their thoughts I
cannot measure . In ordinary life, we usually will express it in this way I cannot measure their
thoughts . The object their thoughts is marked. On the one hand, it shows once again Wordsworth likes
to put nature in the first place.
On the other hand, it is coherent with the whole stanza, because the focus is on the birds. If putting I in
the first, then the coherence will not be so good. The fifth stanza is devoted to the budding twigs .
Personification is used again. We see the twigs spread out their fan to catch the air and the twigs must
be in pleasure as well. In these three stanzas, the flowers, birds and twigs are all personified and they
are all greatly pleasant in the harmonious natural world.
The sixth stanza comes back to the sad thoughts of the poet. After the descriptions of the beauty and
harmony of nature, when we think again what man has made of man , we cannot but lament. The
sorrow here reaches its climax. So here the poet uses a rhetorical question Have I not reason to lament/
what man has made of man? to show his powerful feelings.

Fraternities And Sororities
It is important to discuss the history behind fraternities and sororities in order to gain a full
understanding of how they can affect ways in which students interact with each other. The first Greek
letter organization was created in 1776 as a way for students to meet with each other and discuss
current events and literature. From there on, more of these groups were started at schools around the
country. It was rare to have women be appointed into one of these because of their lesser social status.
It was not until almost 100 years later that a women s organization was founded. Because of their rich
history, fraternities are more dominate than sororities and much more well off. In America, there is a
large history of women being devalued and

Primates Do Not Live In Cages
The movie, Unlocking the Cage by director Chris Hegedus and D. A. Pennebaker, follows the
challenges that Steven Wise, a lawyer fighting for the rights of primates, and the Nonhuman Rights
Project, a group fighting for the rights of animals, against the law. They find a bunch of primates who
are locked up around the United States of America and sue for their legal freedom, by going from a
thing to a legal person with legal protections. The furthest he has ever got to was with Hercules and
Leo. In all cases, however, they lost because the judges could not see them as a legal person holding
legal protections. The issue of the argument is should primates be considered a legal person and
should be entitled to basic rights and protections? As it stands, primates do not have ... Show more

However, sanctuaries exist, such as the one in Florida, where primates from around the country goes
to live a much better life rather than live a life in a small, isolated cage with no interaction. Steven
Wise and the Nonhuman Rights Project wants to move primates into the sanctuaries so that they do
not have to live in cages. Their claim is that primates are considered a legal person and are entitled to
basic rights, such as those given to children. He states many reasons as to why they are considered a
legal person and not a thing with no rights. One reason that he states is that primates are able to
understand humans and can communicate with them. They have the capacity to understand humans
along with communicating with them. The strength of this reason is that it shows that primates can
communicate with humans and can learn from them since they can understand humans. The weakness
of this reason is that any animal can understand humans and some animals can speak languages, closer
than what primates can do. There were three monkeys in the movie to show that primates have the
capacity to

Character s Relationship To The Past In Twelve Angry Men...
In many works of literature, past events can affect, positively or negatively, the present actions, or
values of a character. Choose a novel or play in which a character with some aspect of the past, either
personal or societal. Then write an essay in which you show how the character s relationship to the
past contributes to the meaning of the work as a whole: The jury from the drama Twelve Angry Men,
consist of individuals from every aspect of life. Their values attitudes and opinions have been shaped
by the events that they have lived through. The jury s relationship with their past, helped form the
position to vote guilty or not guilty. Written by Reginald Rose they play Twelve Angry Men displays
how Juror #3 s relationship with his son prevented him from viewing the case from a logical
standpoint rather than emotional one.

Juror #3 has trouble doing this when he infers that because the defendant is from the slums, it makes
him capable of murder. At times Juror #3 loses his temper when other members of the jury disagree
with his opinions. A part of being a member of a jury is being able to hear other s opinions and carry
out a civil discussion, but this behavior is not in Juror #3 s nature. His past experiences either with his
son or others have caused him to be quick to judge other people based on little evidence and his own
prejudices. During the jury s final vote in which Juror #3 is the only one still voting guilty he takes out
a picture of his son as he states that all the facts point to the defendant being guilty of the crime. Upon
seeing the picture of his son he yells, rotten kids you work your life out before tearing the picture,
breaking down and changing his vote to not guilty. He was hit with the realization that all the anger he
had towards his son was being put back onto the defendant blinding him from seeing the

Characteristics Of A Police Officer
Being employed as a police officer brings a consistent standard of morals and a high degree of
integrity within one self, whilst promoting these same characteristics of other police officers, the New
South Wales Police Force (NSWPF)and the general public. These traits are essential for a police
officer s ability to lead people, this is known as Ethical leadership. Burns (1978) highlights that a
leader s personality will provide the basis of leadership. Police Officers require an ethical morale
while exhibiting preferred behaviours whilst on or off duty. These are necessary to enforce the
organisations policy, State legislation and the officers own Oath of Office (Chandler, 2009). A leader s
behaviour is clear to all with deliberate decisions focusing on an ethical and law abiding tendency, and
not one that can be mistaken for personal gain.
This essay will discuss a number of leadership traits and characteristics that I believe are important in
becoming a first line leader. I will discuss practical leadership strategies that may assist in a
probationary constable making the transition to being fully sworn officer working as senior with a
partner. I will also discuss my own leadership strengths and weakness including a self assessment and
suggested development approaches for improvement.
For a probationary constable to become senior on the truck and effectively apply leadership to another,
they need to reflect on what type of leadership behaviours and characteristics they

Wisconsin-Madison Research Paper
The University of Wisconsin Madison struck my eye from the very first time I stepped on campus. It
was a beautiful morning in November; the air was brisk, the sun was shining, and the leaves were just
beginning to fall. Being from Arizona, there were only two seasonal weather patterns that existed:
really hot with a nice, cool winter. I had loved every second at home, but I was ready to experience
something new.
I never knew anyone who had attended the University of Wisconsin Madison, which made the entire
visiting trip feel personal and unique. My initial undergraduate major fluctuated between the business
and engineering world. I was constantly reminded by my parents about how the typical college student
changes their major six times, so I had a desire to pursue a school with a plethora of options. Luckily,
the University of Wisconsin Madison had top tier programs in both fields. ... Show more content on

Coming from Arizona, I knew what it was like to see thousands of students at a football game rallying
behind their team. Surprisingly, Wisconsin Madison was home to some of the most dedicated fans
alive. Even in harsher weather conditions, the students make it out to the games, filling the seats high
and heavy with a sea of screaming red Badgers. Furthermore, the Badgers excel in every sport,
including my personal favorite, hockey. To be apart of a dominate Big Ten school is everything I had
dreamt of. What makes the University of Wisconsin different from other power five schools is their
ability to switch into student mode. The majority of athletically gifted universities tend to focus their
time on athletics alone, whereas the University of Wisconsin Madison values both education and

My Experiences Of My Life In High School
Ang pangalan ko ay Bianca, My name s Bianca. but my friends call me B for short. I do have various
witless nicknames like Bob or BB Grill but I wouldn t prefer being called any of those names unless
you want the whole class to laugh. During my first day, I perceived Stockdale as a welcoming school.
Especially because my teachers were affable and approachable. I am aware of all the obstacles along
the way, but that s not going to stop me from reaching my aspirations. All in all, I m looking forward
to spending my high school years in Stockdale and I know it will provide me with good memories,
knowledge and fun times.
For most of my life, I ve lived in the Philippines and I was born on April 14, 2003. Moving from the
Philippines had been my biggest travel so far, and since then, I haven t visited back home. One of the
reasons why we moved is because my Mom wanted to live closer to my Step Dad. Now, we live
together as a family of five with my little brother Miggy and Austin who is my older stepbrother. We
ve lived here in Bakersfield for 2 years now and it has been a great experience.
Coming from the Philippines made me different from others. I can speak in Tagalog, and I have an
odd taste for food, simply because our cuisine usually contains Vinegar or Soy Sauce. One of my
favorite dishes is called, Sinigang which is basically pork or fish cooked in Tamarind soup with
vegetables. Interestingly, throughout my life, my main hobby has always been singing or

Ready Player One
Ready Player One is one of the best books I ve ever read. The realistic characters, the setting and the
plot made it very good. The characters were very realistic and relatable. The setting was perfect for the
dystopian genre.
The author created characters that were realistic. For instance Wade Watts is poor and lives in stacked

games in something called the OASIS. For Them life is based on The OASIS, they have schools and

Informative Essay On Social Media
Technological advances in our world over the past decade have impacted our society tremendously.
With these advances have come new social media websites that people all around the world use in
their everyday life. Social media started out as a means of communication from person to person but
has drastically grown to be even a source of news and a reporting channel. The world can be updated
on events that occur within seconds through the use of websites and cellular apps with the most
popular today being Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The increased speed of reporting news and
other things however does not necessarily determine all things posted via social media to be valid.
With the click of a few buttons on your phone, anybody has the capability to post a status or tweet that
has the potential of being viewed by thousands to millions of people. The article Tweeting Fast
Matters, But Only if I Think About It: Information Updates on Social Media uses the popular platform
Twitter in a study to determine whether or not there is a correlation between the speed of updates and
how people determine source credibility (Spence, Lachlan, Edwards, 55). Twitter and other social
media platforms are useful in reporting news fast and keeping people connected but not all
information shared online should be assumed true. Twitter is a social media platform that allows
people to post messages or tweets publically with the option for others to reply to the message. Over

Secured Personal Loans
When it comes to deciding what type of personal loan you need there is more to consider than just
how much should be taken out and whether the repayments feasible. An equally important question is
whether to take out a secured loan or an unsecured loan.
Secured personal loans
Secured personal loans require the borrower to provide a financial guarantee to aid the lender in the
event of a default. This could be in the form of cash or could also be secured in other forms, such as a
vehicle, equity in property or valuables. Secured personal loans usually have lower interest rates as the
financial guarantee provides increased protection for the lender against default risk. Secured loans
tend to be more attractive to borrowers with a poor credit

Junior Year Junior year was one of the best years of high school, but also one of the most stressful
years of high school. What made it great was prom and homecoming. Prom was so much fun and my

and I knew it was going to be a good one.
Also, the boys had won the homecoming football ball game which was a great start to the weekend! I
had got a class ring and customized it the way I wanted and it turned out great. Now that we were
upperclassmen it felt good to be almost at the top. I still had my friends that I had throughout high
school and middle school. However, I did lose one of my closest friends sophomore year when she

Fugality Research Paper
The Order Behind Frugality Both Kemmu shikimoku, issued by the Ashikaga bakufu in 1336, and the
Code for the Warrior Households, issued by the Tokugawa bafuku in 1615, stipulated that it was
indispensable to practice frugality. Both Ashikaga bakufu and Tokugawa bafuku were new regimes
when they promulgated these two legal documents. While at first glance, these two legal documents
might seem to share similar attitudes toward frugality, in fact, they were different in nature. In this
paper, I would like to compare Kemmu shikimoku (1336) and the Code for the Warrior Households
(1615), by first closely examining the details of these two frugality laws and then speculating their
motivations for issuing the frugality law. In so doing, I wish to ... Show more content on

Both legal documents resorted to classics and tradition as justification. For instance, in Kemmu
shikimoku, the author confessed that he had selected the teachings of Japan and China, past and
present (Grossberg, 22). Likewise, at the end of the Code for the Warrior Households, it stated that
This is the clear admonition of the wise men of old (Wm. Theodore et al., 14). Such references to
history and tradition were necessary, since both Ashikaga bakufu and Tokugawa bakufu were newly
founded, when Kemmu shikimoku and the Code for the Warrior Households were issued respectively.
While both regimes solidified their legitimacy by embracing the history, their fundamental governing
ideologies had changed. On the one hand, the authors of Kemmu shikimoku still regarded virtue as the
most important thing for the government. It said in Kemmu shikimoku that The [Chinese] classics say
that virtue is good government, and government rests in the security of the people. The Shogun should
bring a speedy end to the people s suffering. (Grossberg, 16). Therefore, Kemmu shikimoku stipulated
the frugality law in order to bring a speedy end to poverty that resulted from basara, the ostentatious
display (Grossberg, 16). The ideal government that those eight legal specialists suggested to the

What Is My Room Essay
My Room Everyone likes places they can go to, to let be in a safe place. Mine may not be the prettiest,
coolest, or most perfect by any means. For me it works the best when I need breaks from my life and
just relax, this is where I go to. It frees me from all the chaos in my life, and I can just let go of things
that are worrying me or things I don t need to be in my life. My safe place is my room, my go to friend
when I need one, I can always rely on my lovely room. Most rooms fit to people s personality and
what they think is the best for them. I was searching ideas on how to recreate my room, and I finally
found the best theme for me and how it fit my personality. The room contains four walls, that are
joined together, in a rectangle shape. My room is the biggest one in the house, no not because I wanted
this room, but because I shared it with my older sister. No the room is all mine. Two the walls that are
opposite of each other are painted Peppered Pecan which is a brown color, that I love so dearly. The
other two walls are painted just plain white. If dressers could talk they would tell me how much they
love the color they are painted. Distressed, with brown as the base coat, and an off white at the top,
then sanded, to make the old fashion look to them. There knobs are brassy which stands out, from the
off white. Plants just bring a happy vibe to people, which this plant does to me, with its rough stem

The Poor Corporate Culture At Lazier Industries
LAZIER INDUSTRIES August 2015 Shaun Branam Table of Contents Executive Summary 3
Introduction 4 Analysis 5 Conclusions and Recommendations 9 Bibliography 11 Executive Summary
The problem in the case is the poor corporate culture at Lazier Industries. Although the company is
performing well, there is dissent amongst managers, VP s and employees which is spreading rapidly.
The underlying issue is Bob Lazier who has not done a good job demonstrating his vision for the
company and implementing a corporate culture that complements this vision. Therefore, in this
analysis it will be recommended that Bob implement not only performance metrics that measure
employee satisfaction such as quarterly surveys but also implement rewards such as employee of the
month in order to increase morale. Further, LI will look to invest in its employees in order to increase
productivity in the long run. Introduction The first object Bob Lazier undertook as the new CEO of
Lazier Industries, was to implement a strategic plan that focused on introducing several new products
which could be cross sold to LI s existing customer base. As a strong believer in the company and it s
potential to broaden its offerings Bob was looking to leverage the strong relationships built with its
clients to sell additional lines of components. However, since being placed as the new CEO, a lot of

What Starts Criminal Behavior? History shows that through life violence is a cycle within itself.
Criminology shows different views on how and why criminal behavior happens. By watching the

That s hurts Doughboy and it seems like he is into the streets because that s the only thing that is
giving him the attention that he wants and needs. Doughboy feeds on the attention that he gets from
the streets of L.A. It helps him think he is wanted by people that love him. In his mind it s a lost
relationship with his mother because even if he tries to do stay out of jail, try and do right by her she
still wouldn t care or even notice that he is trying to build a mother son bond between them. So it gets
to the point where he seeks and gets revenge on the guys who killed his brother Ricky. And he doesn t
care if their guys come back in retaliation to kill him. There was a quote he said in the movie saying
either they don t know, don t show, or don t care about what s going on in the hood. He has a good
point because the people that do care is either scared to say anything or has never lived in the ghetto
before so they can only go by what other people say that s happening in the streets.
Most people get killed over what is known as the Code of The Street. In the movie it shows that their
code of the street was revenge. They killed Ricky Doughboy and his friends killed them. It also shows
that violence and crime happens all over something petty. In one scene in the movie they show Ferris

  • 2. My Personal Cultural Identity Do you ever get that preconceived look from others? When they judged you by your facial expression or your race. Do people constantly question what you think you are because you share aspects of different cultures but they do not notice their own? When people look at me they see a stereotypical black girl they assume you know all of the latest dances and slang. When you talk people automatically assume that you do not know the basics of grammar but they soon find out that you do just in time for them to tell you that you talk like a white person. My cultural identity is not one of a strictly African American nature. My individual culture is an assortment of features that stem from my friends and family. The organized lifestyle, religion, values and traditions, I ve gotten from my mother along with the music, clothes and pastime activities I share with my friends all come together as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of the older people in our family have various health issues such as: diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. A high percentage of African Americans have been diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure which tends to lead to heart disease. They are not always preventable but can be offset for a while with exercise and good nutrition. To prevent becoming like them we try to maintain a healthy lifestyle. My mother and aunt watch what they eat and walk everyday. I on the other hand take dance for exercise and when I am not at dance I also walk. We try to keep fried foods and desserts(sugar) to a minimum. We tend to plan all meals in advance in an effort to watch calories, sugar intake and carbohydrates. We also drink a lot of water leaving sugary drinks alone. My mother has watch the majority of her family deal with diabetes so she has taught me to be careful and to realize that it also may be hereditary. The only thing we can do is try not to be diagnosed at an early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Antigone Moral What is the Moral of the Story? What s the overall message that Peter J. Ahrensdorf and Thomas L. Pangle are trying to portray to their audience.? Well, after reading the play and being able to analyze the story a little more in depth, I came up with two probable answers. First, I think the author s trying to describe Antigone as this antagonist, who s against all odds throughout the play. She s a young girl who refuses to let anyone tell her what to do. Her self morals of loyalty and courage outweigh any consequence that s willing to come her way. Antigone ends up pushing her limits by finally forcing Creon to punish her by sticking her in a cave and locking her in there, but in the end Creon changes his. He finally understands what needs to be done; He finally kind of sees eye to eye and allows Antigone to bury her brother. So, in the end, I interpreted this as the author telling us don t give up for what we believe in, no matter how big or small of a stretch it is, because in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As an audience, we learn that only if you are buried probably with all the rituals that go along with it, will you rest peacefully. Also, we learn that Antigone say s her soul will not rest easily if she does not give her brother the proper burial that he deserves. That s why she does everything in her will power to accomplish to difficult task. We also learn that the authority side has an agreement that not traitor to their country should be put to rest on a proper burial. So, this is where we see the two sides clash, the religious belief vs the authority. Now, we can see that there is no meaningful conversation between the two sides to try and seek this dilemma out. Matter of fact, it s just each side clashing at the other explaining their argument of why they are right. It s basically one big protest, that leads to some horrible ... • 4. Complexity Of Airplane Essay The dream of flight is as old as mankind itself (Leonardo DaVinci, April 14, 1489)however, the concept of an airplane is only a few centuries old. airplanes are the only vehicle that make traveling hundreds of miles a task that can be done in just one to two hours. Trucks, boats or even race cars can t even come close to the speed of the average commercial aircraft. The Complexity of the plane dates back to many years of researching about the four forces and creating an aerodynamic flight method(National Aeronautics Space Administration, 2006, Pg. 2). Leonardo DaVinciand the Wright brothers were just a small few of the first plane pioneers. The very first step made towards flight was Leonardo DiVinci s Ornithopter . TheOrnithopter was a self propelled wing suit that attempted to mimic the flight of birds and bats.(Wright Brothers, 1999, Page 7) DaVinci wanted the device to allow people to propel themselves and allow them to fly. The problem was that the Ornithopterwas to heavy and could not fly. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drag is the force that pulls an airplane backwards. With too much drag an airplane will not be able to fly forwards. However, with too little drag an airplane will not be able to correctly balance.(NASA, 2015, Pg 17.) Although a plane tries to overcome drag, it actually creates it.(Wright Brothers Int, 2001,) Anything that flies will create drag, the bigger the object the more the drag. To overcome drag, an airplane is designed to be able to cut through the air.(NASA, 2015, Pg 1.) The best example of this is in the wings. Wings on a plane tend to have a design that is thin and sharp in the front and gets thicker as it moves down. Planes also have a very sharp nose(very front tip of the plane) along with a pointed rudder (the tail of an airplane).(NASA, 2015, Pg. 3)Having all of these pointed parts allows an airplane tominimise the amount of drag it has, ultimately allowing it to ... • 5. Similarities Between Gary Goss Pleasantville And Blue Velvet While suburbia is not quite a city to be registered as a cinematic city, it has its own specific way of life just any city does. The speciality of suburbia though, is that it can be branded, sold and recreated in most places in America. It is the complete full circle of the American Dream, or better yet it is the trademarked edition. The 1950 s are thought of as the peak, or stereotypical best, the American Dream with the white picket fence, 2.5 kids, and a hot meal waiting for you when you get home. While this idea may be postcard or billboard perfect, it is not as perfect for everyone involved or for the future when it looked at from under the service. Gary Ross Pleasantville and David Lynch s Blue Velvet both explore the idea of the suburban American Dream and that it is not as squeaky clean perfection as it seems. Gary Ross Pleasantville is the story of two modern day children being magically zapped into a TV Land esque show, called Pleasantville, about stereotypical perfect 1950 s life in the suburbs. Pleasantville is a town that is a vision of America in its commercial best, with its two parent households, church on Sunday and white pearly teeth. It is a town that ... The dark and disgusting has corrupted our idealism in suburbs being the American Dream. Jeffrey has changed along with our perception of suburbia, because dirt sticks. The viewers of this film get thrown into becoming voyeurs along with Jeffrey. So when the big question of whether not Jeffrey is a deceptive or pervert comes up, it is not only directed at him but at the viewers for watching and being invested in such horror along with ... • 6. The Bank of New York and it s History Essay The Bank of New York and it s History On February 23, 1784, a small advertisement appeared in The New York Packet, one of the many New York newspapers of that era. This advertisement announced that prominent New York citizens had established a bank. The bank, established by the prominent, would not officially open for business until June 9, 1784. That bank would come to be known as the bank of New York. Alexander Hamilton, a well known New York attorney, was asked to write the constitution of the new bank. He complied and therefore Alexander Hamilton was credited with the founding of the Bank of New York. In 1969, through the establishment of a bank holding company, the Bank expanded beyond New York City, establishing a suburban branch network that remains today. Global expansion began with an office in London in 1966, but a major breakthrough occurred with the acquisition of The Irving Bank Corporation in 1988. This acquisition created the tenth largest bank at that time and set the stage for what the Bank of New York is today. The acquisitions of National Community Banks in New Jersey and The Putnam Trust Company in Connecticut in the 1990 s continued the expansion of the Bank of New York s branch network. The Bank of New York has had a series of business acquisitions in securities servicing that enabled them to become a recognized leader in that area. Over the last several decades, the corporate branch of the Bank of New York has come to be known as a banker to the largest corporations in America and in special industries such as telecommunications and energy. In closing, it is rare for a business or institution to last over 200 years as has the Bank of New York. It was able to do so by adapting to the times and providing excellent services to its clients. • 7. Racism In The Film Remember The Titans There are many people in our world today, that believe racism is a problem of the past, that segregation and inequality are expressions that are not relevant today. The cold heart felt reality of this statement is that racism, is even more alive in our world today, than ever before. Circumstances such as, Caucasians being paid more than African Americans for the same job and Caucasian police officers gunning down innocent African Americans and being acquitted for it, are just some examples of the racial tensions in our society today. The people that believe racism is no longer a problem in this world, are simply ignoring the recent and past tragedies of African Americans. The inequalities this minority group has endured, has caught the attention of certain groups of people, that are trying to bring change, by taking a stand for a solution. In this challenge, the media has been very effective, in not only bringing the problems to the surface but also in seeking to effect resolutions. Throughout our countries past, the media, and even more specifically, movies, have been a powerful tool in bringing light of many types of injustices brought onto minority groups. A prime example of a movie that presents some of these issues is Remember the Titans . Throughout this essay, I will be analyzing this film, identifying some of the aspects of the film s form, content and symbolism, regarding the impact on American culture, that can be seen within it. • 8. The Wars By Timothy Findley According to Brandon Mull, the New York Times bestselling author of the Beyonoders series, ...heroism means doing the right thing regardless of the consequence (Mull 39). In The Wars by Timothy Findley, the protagonist, Robert Ross, displays key characteristics of heroism throughout his struggle to maintain his morality. In the novel, Robert displays an admiration for the sanctity of life, a desire to achieve the greatest good, and a virtuous moral conscience which all contribute to him achieving heroism in the face of adversity. Early in the novel, we learn that Rowena was the first human being [Robert] remembered seeing (Findley 14) and that their relationship escalated through the years to the point where Robert became her guardian (14) due to the fact that she was immobilized by her hydrocehpelia. Japan s graying population: The reasons behind it, steps taken to curb it and the implications of an aging society Introduction Japan has seen rapid development from the times of Meiji Restoration (1868) up till today. In fact, it has grown more rapidly than any other countries from 1870 to 1994 (Nafziger,1995) because of the various economic policies its government had undertaken after the war ended. Thus, as a result of this economic growth, standard of living has gone up and along with technological advancements, Japan enjoys one of the highest life expectancy compared to any other countries in the world ... The unemployment rate rose sharply from 2% in 1990 to 5% in 2003(Suzuki, 2006). Youth was not given an opportunity to work and those who did obtain a stable job decreased from 77.8% in 1988 to 55.8% in 2004 and that those who obtained no job or a temporary job went up from 9.4% to 24.6% during the same period. The proportion proceeding to higher education increased from 6.5% to 11.8% meaning that starting a family will be delayed. . Suzuki also mentioned that the low income of young men relative to their fathers discouraged marriage. Previously, the income of men in their 30s were more than that of their fathers and motivated women to marry them. Current trends, however, indicated that the relative income of young men to old men has declined substantially and young men are less appealing as marriage partners than before. Problems with an aging society One of the issues with an ageing society is that the dependency ratio of the country will increase. Dependency ratio refers to the number of persons under age 15 plus persons aged 65 or older per one hundred persons 15 to 64. It is the sum of the youth dependency ratio and the old age dependency ratio. This means that as the society ages, more young people are tasked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a polycrystalline solid with grain diameter from 10 to 20 micro meter (Ashby et al). The presence of impurity like carbon causes the crystal lattice distortions to increase, hence making giving steel better hardness, yield strength, and tensile strength, at the cost of ductility. Pure iron being very ductile but comparatively weak, steel is widely because of its greater load bearing capacity. Other impurities are also introduced into steel to produce different properties. Materials like chromium, vanadium, titanium, boron etc. are added to steel to give it better corrosion resistance, hardness, tensile strength and better fatigue response (Smith et al). Elements like carbon and nitrogen form take up interstitial spaces between the iron atoms owing to their reduced atomic size (Smith et al). Elements with larger atoms like nickel, chromium, aluminium, sulphur, phosphorus etc. act as substitutional elements (Smith et al). Although, the inclusion of various alloying elements do alter the material property and the crystalline structure, material property of basic steel can be understood by analyzing various phases of iron and carbon solid solution. We Propose A Novel Framework For Tweet Segmentation Abstract Twitter has become one of the most important communication channels with its ability providing the most up to date and newsworthy information. HybridSeg finds the optimal segmentation of a tweet by maximizing the sum of the stickiness scores of its candidate segments. The stickiness score considers the probability of a segment being a phrase in English (i.e., global context) and the probability of a segment being a phrase within the batch of tweets (i.e., local context). For the latter, we propose and evaluate two models to derive local context by considering the linguistic features and term dependency in a batch of tweets, respectively. On the one hand, it shows once again Wordsworth likes to put nature in the first place. On the other hand, it is coherent with the whole stanza, because the focus is on the birds. If putting I in the first, then the coherence will not be so good. The fifth stanza is devoted to the budding twigs . Personification is used again. We see the twigs spread out their fan to catch the air and the twigs must be in pleasure as well. In these three stanzas, the flowers, birds and twigs are all personified and they are all greatly pleasant in the harmonious natural world. The sixth stanza comes back to the sad thoughts of the poet. After the descriptions of the beauty and harmony of nature, when we think again what man has made of man , we cannot but lament. • 32. What Is My Room Essay My Room Everyone likes places they can go to, to let be in a safe place. Mine may not be the prettiest, coolest, or most perfect by any means. For me it works the best when I need breaks from my life and just relax, this is where I go to. It frees me from all the chaos in my life, and I can just let go of things that are worrying me or things I don t need to be in my life. My safe place is my room, my go to friend when I need one, I can always rely on my lovely room. Most rooms fit to people s personality and what they think is the best for them. I was searching ideas on how to recreate my room, and I finally found the best theme for me and how it fit my personality. The room contains four walls, that are joined together, in a rectangle shape. My room is the biggest one in the house, no not because I wanted this room, but because I shared it with my older sister. No the room is all mine. Two the walls that are opposite of each other are painted Peppered Pecan which is a brown color, that I love so dearly. The other two walls are painted just plain white. If dressers could talk they would tell me how much they love the color they are painted. Distressed, with brown as the base coat, and an off white at the top, then sanded, to make the old fashion look to them. There knobs are brassy which stands out, from the off white. Plants just bring a happy vibe to people, which this plant does to me, with its rough stem and long green leaves, just something about it. Windows are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his mind it s a lost relationship with his mother because even if he tries to do stay out of jail, try and do right by her she still wouldn t care or even notice that he is trying to build a mother son bond between them. So it gets to the point where he seeks and gets revenge on the guys who killed his brother Ricky. And he doesn t care if their guys come back in retaliation to kill him. There was a quote he said in the movie saying either they don t know, don t show, or don t care about what s going on in the hood. He has a good point because the people that do care is either scared to say anything or has never lived in the ghetto before so they can only go by what other people say that s happening in the streets. Most people get killed over what is known as the Code of The Street. In the movie it shows that their code of the street was revenge. They killed Ricky Doughboy and his friends killed them.
