Toyota Hilux Is A Light Commercial Utility Vehicle
The Toyota Hilux is a light commercial utility vehicle (ute) manufactured by Japanese company
Toyota. The ute has become known for being reliable, sturdy and being able to withstand harsh
terrains and abuse. This has led to the automobile becoming known as the unbreakable Hilux . This
has subsequently motivated its latest advertising campaign the unbreakable driver .
Product analysis:
The Hilux is a four wheeled drive (4WD) Ute. The vehicle has a v6 turbo engine, double wishbone
suspension and a 750kg towing capacity. (Toyota, 2015)
The Ute Market within Australia represents 19.2% of the total motor vehicle industry (Whytcross,
2014). Toyota occupies a large majority of the industry, selling 58,000 light utility vehicles in 2012
(Di Leo, 2013). This is illustrated upon in figure 1 which indicates the market share and precent
change in volume sold for the previous year.
Despite holding a heavy market share, the Hilux faces direct competition from the Nissan Navara,
Holden Colorado, Ford Ranger , Mitsubishi Triton, Mazda BT 50, Isuzu D MAX and the Volkswagen
Amarok.
The Hilux has been given the title of Unbreakable car . This statue came about from the popular
British television show Top Gear. In 2010 the show attempted to destroy the truck, displaying various
tests including, crashing into a tree, driving through a cottage, hit by a wrecking ball, drowned in a sea
tide and light on fire. Despite all the trials the car was able to start without

Analysis Of White Noise By Delillo
The awareness and difficulty in accepting morality is not only unique to humans today but have been
long before. Innovations in medicine, technology and means of communication, have somewhat
reduced the likelihood of an early death compared to previous generations of humans, however, such
advancements seem not to conjure the desired feelings of joy, but rather feelings of helplessness and
irrational fears of death, leading to the suppression and denial of its existence, through consumption of
these goods. In his novel, White Noise, DeLillo gives insight into the life of Jack Gladney, who is the
[inventor] and chairman of the department of Hitler Studies at the College on the Hill (4), and also
carries with him a deep fear of death, and his current wife Babette and their children. DeLillo shows
how science and technology end up feeding this fear of death, and causes more difficulty in accepting
its existence, as Jack s fear becomes aggravated due to the Airborne Toxic Event, and his
vulnerabilities regarding death stem to light, while acknowledgeing that The greater the scientific
advance, the more primitive the fear (154), and All plots tend to move deathwards. This is the nature
of plots (26). Every object within the novel, the white noise, from the schools, to supermarket, to
sounds, and means of media, all convey the presence of death, suggesting that this phenomenon
cannot be avoided or outrun. The [evacuation ] of the grade school where No one knew what was

Critical Analysis Of Requiem For A Dream
Requiem for a Dream is a 2000 psychological drama directed by Darren Aronofsky. The story follows
four characters as they struggle with, and eventually succumb to their different addictions. This leads
to the characters imprisonment in a world of delusions and reckless desperation that is eventually
overtaken by reality. The film makes effective use of imagery and sound to create the feeling of the
film reeling towards the end at an impossible pace. By the end of the movie, the characters are
completely changed: withered, broken, and alone. Requiem for a Dream was screened at the 2000
Cannes film festival, and was met with primarily positive reviews.
Darren Aronofsky created the feeling of the film speeding up by shortening the length of the scenes as
the film progresses. At the beginning of the movie scenes are 90 seconds to 2 minutes in length, and it
s by shortening the length of scenes and frames that he created a sense of unease within the audience.
It s also reflective of the emotional states of the characters. At the beginning of the film, the characters
aren t necessarily too far gone to be saved. They still have time for each other, for their future, and
their plans. But as the scenes shorten their chances of saving themselves become slimmer. They
characters find themselves more and more alone as they becomes slaves to their addiction, doing
whatever they can to get their next fix.
Requiem for a dream is split between two primary narratives which center on

Analysis Of Julie Mehretu s Paintings
Julie Mehretu s paintings are loosely termed history paintings by Douglas Fogle and called
psychogeographies by the artist herself. A viewer is supposed to find something in themselves much
like exploring a city and figuring things out for one s own self interest. Mehretu is quoted as saying
my aim is to have a picture that appears one way from a distance almost like a cosmology, city, or
universe from afar but then when you approach the work, the overall image shatters into numerous
other pictures, stories, and events. Historically drawing is seen as inferior to painting which makes it
interesting that Julie Mehretu would employ so much drawing into her canvases because drawing is
important to architectural drawings. How does the mapping nature of Julie Mehretu s paintings convey
a sense of identity in a very political nature and how is it a representation of the post colonialist world
in which we inhabit? Scholars all seem to agree that Mehretu s canvases are maps, but what do they
seek to accomplish? My analysis of Mehretu s Stadia III will use a biographical and post colonialist
methodology to explore the ways in which Mehretu s own upbringing and how the very nature of her
map making, though very artificial, can be seen as a way of both bringing us together and giving those
groups that have previously been neglected throughout history a voice.

Anthropology: Neanderthals Film Review
Throughout the documentary Decoding Neanderthals there was a push of research to push the human
view of Neanderthals. Over the year s research showed that we coexisted with Neanderthals and out

Minimum Wage and Poverty
Poverty is a significant topic that is being investigated, talked about and most importantly lived in by
millions in America. Many American citizens, specifically the children are not only living in poverty,
but they are living below the poverty line due to low minimum wage (Gidfar). A child living in
poverty can face serious problems in the future. Reducing poverty should not be charity work. As
citizens of the world it should be a social responsibility to find a way in which poverty can no longer
be a living status, especially for a developed country like America. It is one of the top countries before
Mexico with the highest rate of child poverty (Gidfar). In context, minimum wage has a large impact
on poverty within a country, as the higher the minimum wage the more disposable income families
have access to. The discussion of how the elasticity of demand of unskilled workers determines
whether or not the minimum wage should be raised to reduce child poverty is essential when
validating the relationship between the two variables (Rutkowski 7). While the analysis of William
Even and David Macpherson s study emphasizes the importance of taking employment in to account
as a variable as an indication to prevent job loss (2), through the clarification that although the United
States view child poverty as being an intractable problem (WaldFogel 3), there is evidence to support
that a raise in the disposable income of families can lead to reduction in child poverty (Dahl and

Analysis Of The Central Subject Of Wuthering Heights By...
Midterm Paper
The central subject of Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is the love between Heathcliff and
Catherine. The novel sets the narrative up for Edgar Linton s proposal to Catherine by having
Catharine get bit by the Linton s dog and then having her stay at Thrushcross Grange. During this
time, she is learning how to be a proper lady all while becoming closer with the Linton s. The novel
sets the narrative up for Catherine s death by showing Catherine s relationship between Edgar and
Heathcliff. Although, Catherine is married to Edgar she still has Heathcliff come around because she
can t be apart from him. This exceptionally shows during Catherine s death when Heathcliff decides to
stay with her, even though he knows Edgar is coming. The1998 film adaptation reveals the same
central subject, however, it includes slightly different information and tools to portray the subject.
In the novel WH, Catherine enters the room and appears to be disturbed and anxious. Catherine tells
Nelly how Edgar Linton asked her to marry him, but she is looking to Nelly for what the right answer
may be. She finally comes out and tells Nelly that she has accepted him. Nelly proceeds to ask
Catherine why she loves Edgar, Catherine s response is because he is handsome, pleasant to be with,
young and cheerful, and because he loves me. Catherine finally gets to the point that Edgar is rich. In
her soul and heart, she is convinced she made the wrong decision. Catherine explains how she

Sacred Hoops
Phil Jackson coached the Chicago Bulls basketball team to one of the longest winning streaks in
professional sports. In his book, Sacred Hoops, he describes his approach to coaching a group of
acknowledged stars. He clearly understands that simply collecting a set of outstanding players does
not a championship team make. One way of understanding his approach is to think of every problem
or project having components in four different spheres:
1. Mental, logical, scientific, technical
2. Systems or how the parts all connect and interact
3. Emotional, feelings, intuition
4. Ethical, spiritual and issues of being.

Following a career as a player Jackson applied his understanding to coaching basketball teams. You
can t expect a team to perform in a way that is out of tune with its natural abilities, so empowering
individuals even superstars to mindfully acknowledge their true abilities and accept what they can and
can t change moves any team toward a greater cohesion. Focusing on the awareness of the moment,
instilling the notions of selflessness in action and the value of compassion towards fellow players are
some of the teachings that Jackson provided for his players.
Somehow I never associated the competitive world of a professional sport with Zen practice but
clearing the mind and opening the heart is just as relevant there as anywhere else. In dealing with the
high pressure situation of highly paid athletes constantly under media scrutiny Jackson, via his
practice has been able to reflect on his own actions, look into his essential nature and find solutions to
all sorts of problems the Tao of Authority leads him.
Zen is life, so why not let the eightfold path lead you to a method of coaching basketball? Even if right
action means calling it quits sometimes and it involves losing. As Jackson says, I used to believe that
the day I could accept defeat was the day I would have to give up my job. But losing is as integral a
part of the dance as winning. Buddhism teaches us that by accepting death, you discover life.
Similarly, only by acknowledging the

Self And Social Identity Theory Paper
When Henri Tajfel and John Turner came up the self and social identity theory, they set out to explain
the value of understanding self worth. Every human as a desire to feel a sense of belonging, but that
problem is not a simple as just sitting next to someone and saying these two people should feel
connected. The heart of this issue is often psychologist greatest challenge in cure a person metal state.
This paper will first look at what is self and social identity from a psychologist issue, than how the
power of the gospel as the ability to change that. Henri Tajfel believed that the groups we belong to
give us a sense of social identity. Those groups helped us feel a connection in the world which in turns
lead to a feeling of self worth (Tajifel, 1979). The groups we choose not only shaped our image of our
self but also had the ability to affect the way we act in the communities we lived in. So in essence with
that definition one could say that our character to the world is perceived through the self image we
portray. To take this idea a step further the first idea helps to define our social image. Our self image
becomes a bit more complicated. Its easy to get people to think certain things of us. Smile a lot and ...

Jesus calls us as followers to take up our cross and follow him. If we are to carry the benefits of this
new image we have in Christ, we must also be willing to carry the weight of that. That weight comes
from fleeing from sin and living in the image of Christ. The word repentance is found 75 times in the
Bible and it means simply to turn away. Luke uses the word 25 times alone and when he uses this
word, he is using it in the context of what we need to do when following Christ. Repent from our sins,
than turn away from them. That means we must be willing to do away with our old self image and

America outsources, takes what other countries have discovered, and incorporates other countries

things it gets. Rick Tyler ran, and people seemed to have mixed emotions about the situation. There
were people who were happy to see Rick Tyler running and still free. Then, on the other hand, there
were people who did not care about the situation either way. The people who did not seem to care
about Rick Tyler just wanted to collect the bounty on him. This particular part of Rick Tyler s situation

Film Analysis Of The Lost World
The movie The Lost World revolves around Jeff Goldblum s character, the smug and flirtatious
scientist, Dr. Ian Malcom, being coerced to venture to the fictional island of Isla Sonar, which is
currently populated by genetically engineered dinosaurs brought back by the company InGen. With
the former CEO of the company John Hammond, who lost control of the company due to the events of
the last movie, tasking Malcom with documenting the behavior of the dinosaurs.
Though, at first unwilling because his experiences from the first movie, Malcom learns that his
girlfriend is already on the island and thus accepts. However, shenanigans ensue when Malcom s posy
runs into a retrieval team sent by InGen to capture the dinosaurs and bring them to a zoo in San Diego.
As the movie continues it becomes more and more apparent that Malcom s team, though portrayed as
the good guys, are not actually in the right. As their ineptitude at being able to take pictures and their
need to get involved with a company s dealings, leads to millions in dollars of damages and the deaths
of dozens of people. To begin the task Malcom was sent on was to simply observe the dinosaurs and
not interfere, because Hammond wanted to build public support for the protection of the dinosaurs. As
well as, the fact that Malcom and his team would be on the island illegally, as the island was owned by
InGen, and Malcom was no longer CEO and thus would be unable to give them any form of
permission to be on the island. But

Manpower had to be channeled into the front lines (all the powers except the United States and Britain
had large trained reserves designed for just that). Behind the lines labor power had to be redirected
away from less necessary activities that were luxuries during a total war. In particular, vast munitions
industries had to be built up to provide shells, guns, warships, uniforms, airplanes, and a hundred other
weapons, both old and new. Agriculture had to be mobilized as well, to provide food for both civilians
and for soldiers (many of whom had been farmers and needed to be replaced by old men, boys and
women) and for horses to move supplies. Transportation in general was a challenge, especially when
Britain and Germany each tried to intercept merchant ships headed for the enemy. Finance was a
special challenge. Germany financed the Central Powers. Britain financed the Allies until 1916, when
it ran out of money and had to borrow from the United States. The US took over the financing of the

My Career As A Nursing Career
My ideas of who I wanted to become has not changed but the career path wise has change.I am
slowing finding out what kind of person I am and if who I am fits with who I want to become.
At the beginning of the semester, I stated that I wanted to become a person who helps others. I want a
career that can make a difference in somebody else s life. This idea of helping others will never
change because I strongly believe that is what I want to do. At first I was not really sure of which
career path I wanted to take on. I was not sure of which career fit me best. So I started out as a
Nursing major because the idea of being a nurse was fascinating to me. Nurse are very brave people. I
admired their courage ,efforts and time they put into to help and serve others. Not only that but it s a
good paying job.
When I chose nursing as my major I knew the classes/work that requires will be extremely difficult
but I wanted to give it a try.I always had the mindset that I can do anything as long as I put effort in it.
When the semester starts, classes are heavy and there was a lot of work to do. I felt that I didn t have
time and didn t take time to enjoy other things because I constantly worried about classes. After
having chances of talking with my advisor from heop program for a numerous of time during this
semester I realized how difficult the work/classes that I am taking and will have to go through in the
future to become a nurse. She told me how competitive the nursing field

Compare And Contrast Dogen And Ekakun

Final essay: Dogen and Hakuin Compare and Contrast There are multiple schools in Zen Buddhism as
well as multiple masters and teachers. Dogen Kigen, master of Soto Zen (1200 1253), as well as the
Japanese monk who brought Caodong school of Chan over from China to Japan and then greatly
modified it based on his own insights and criticism of Buddhism in Japan. Dogen lost his parents at a
young age and became ordained at thirteen, and then became student of Eisai s disciples, Myozen
(1184 1225). Another master was Hakuin Ekaku (1686 1769), Ordained at fourteen and given the
name Ekaku which means Wise Crane . Hakuin is known for revitalizing the koan practice of the
Rinzai School, which focused on observing the key word . Dogen founded the Soto school of
Buddhism in Japan, which stressed silent sitting and a gradual path to enlightenment. Hakuin was a
major critic of Soto Zen and believed that it was a fixation on emptiness rather than a path to
enlightenment. However, Hakuin did agree with Soto s accessibility to the common people since it
was more popular among lower class people. Both Hakuin and Dogen were important leaders and
though their approaches were vastly different each made a lasting impact on Zen Buddhism in Japan.
The foundation of Soto Zen began during Dogens voyage to china when he started to question the
effectiveness of the Koan practice. Dogen was the first in Zen to focus on intensive

Why Plastic Bags Should Be Banned
Banning Plastic Bags
The plastic bag is an innovative invention all around the world. It makes the world more convenient
and because of this convenience, the plastic bag is multi purposeful and is used widespread such as in
stores, houses, restaurants, etc. However, the problem is that a lot of people do not know that plastic
bags have many harmful effects. First of all, plastic bags cause environmental damages, and produces
cataclysmic events in wildlife. For example, plastic bags become litter after they are found in
waterways, parks, beaches, and streets. Plastic bags also effect air when burned, infusing the air with
toxins. Something that many may not think about when they think of plastic bags is the harmful
effects it brings to the animals. The death of countless animals such as dolphins, turtles, penguins, etc.
is due to the production of plastic bags. The ocean is home to thousands of species and ocean wonders
but there is so often trash thrown into the sea that disrupts the life beneath the water. Those animals
ingest plastic bags and ultimately die, while another animal comes back and eats that dead animal
which results in a chain reaction that is going to come back around and bite humans back. The public
should realize that plastic bags have adverse effects, and those effects will be worse than the
convenience of using a plastic bag.
Plastic bags produce environmental pollution. People need to reduce the use of plastic bags in order to
save the environment. This

Erik Erikson s Theory of Psychosocial Development
Psychoanalyst Erik Erikson s theory of psychosocial development explains how the human identity
develops and evolves in eight stages from birth to death. Each one occurs in a predetermined order;
the current stage builds upon the previous one and lays the groundwork for future stages (Wikimedia).
Each stage has a specific crisis or conflict, a turning point in the individual s life which must be
reconciled before moving on to the next. If the conflict is handled well, the individual gains ego
strength in the form of a corresponding virtue. If the conflict is handled poorly, the individual not only
fails to develop that virtue, but his/her ability to complete later stages is hindered resulting in

pushed back to intimacy vs. isolation, only this time I chose isolation. Even while surrounded by
friends and family trying to console me, I had never felt more alone. I was surprised when their

Airpower And The Allied Victory Essay
Airpower s contribution to the Allied victory did not represent the ultimate fulfillment of the
prophecies and predictions that were raised in the interwar period. Airpower theorists, on both sides of
the Atlantic, advocated predictions and prophecies for the future of warfare. They strongly supported
ideas and expectations that airpower and especially strategic bombardment was the best answer in the
quest for decisive victory. Airpower was the end and the means to destroy the enemy s will to fight.
However, the Trenchardian notion that decisive victory would come through the cumulative moral
effect of aerial bombing proved false because German citizens showed a remarkable resilience to
surrender. Moreover, the Allies rhetoric that bombers would always get through was far from the
reality and resulted in a tremendous number of aircraft losses and fatalities. Finally, the prediction that
the airpower can win alone was an overestimated expectation albeit, airpower played a significant
role, the decisive victory came as result of a larger joint effort by all the services. After the Great War
experience, the idea of strategic bombardment strongly influenced British interwar airpower theorists
and advocates. The Trenchardian notion that decisive victory would come through the moral effect of
aerial bombing was driven by the faith and expectation that it could destroy the enemy s will to fight.
During World War II, British more than Americans, felt it practical to adopt and

husband falls out of a tree trying to catch his wife in the act of cheating and gets reincarnated into a
parrot. He remembers her, but she does not know it is him and ends up choosing and purchasing him
from the pet store, putting him back into his own home. Both stories have ironic tendencies and share
a similar theme, but have different meanings. Throughout both stories, the characters are facing
internal conflicts. In The Rememberer, Annie is dealing with Ben going through reverse evolution.
She does not know why he is going through it or what to do about it, which results in her battling
herself in her own mind. She cannot tell anyone what is going on because nobody would believe her,
she is stuck telling people that he has a strange sickness and is forced to keep it all inside. In Jealous
Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the husband is dealing with the internal conflict of being
purchased by his wife and brought back into his home where now he is stuck seeing his wife with
other men. The conflict comes in to play with the husband because he does not have the vocabulary as
a parrot to tell her that it is him. Throughout the two stories, the men are both, somehow, turned into
animals.
They both may have turned into animals, in one way or another, but those ways are different. In The
Rememberer, Ben first turns into an ape, but then turns into a sea turtle, just to turn into a salamander.
Whereas, in Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the only animal he is turned into is a parrot.
Another difference between the two circumstances is, Ben is going through reverse evolution, so he is
turning into many different animals, and the husband went through reincarnation after he fell out of
the tree, so he will not change forms. Although, in The Rememberer, both Annie and Ben know that he
is still

Registered Nursing
Registered nurses administer medical care to sick or injured individuals to help achieve health and
prevent disease (Exploring Health Care Careers 818). A registered nurse is a nurse who has graduated
with a Bachelor s of Science degree in nursing and has graduated from a nursing program at a
university or college and has passed a national licensing exam titled the NCLEX. They care for the
sick and injured in hospitals and other healthcare facilities, physician offices, private homes, public
health agencies, schools, and camps. General responsibilities can include dressing wounds, providing
emergency care, administering medications and injections, maintaining records, and offering health
counseling (Field 52). Registered nurses are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Registered nurses must be licensed in the state in which they work. Nurses may be licensed in more
than one state either by taking another NCLEX examination or by endorsement of a license issued by
another state (Field 53). Experience needed for success in the nursing field is acquired in the clinical
experience obtained in nursing school. Volunteering in a hospital is encouraged before pursuing a
nursing career to ensure that nursing is the field in which you want to become a member. Career fairs
are often held in high schools, vocational schools, colleges, and hospitals so interested students can
explore the career options in nursing (Farr, and Shatkin 329). Approved education and clinical
experience is required by employers because several abilities are required to be a successful registered
nurse. An individual working in the nursing field must learn special medical skills, understand
pharmaceutical language and information, and be able to communicate with patients and coworkers.
Ill patients are often frightened by their sickness. The most important personality traits of a good
registered nurse are compassion, sympathy, empathy, and caring. Good communication skills and the
ability to follow orders exactly are necessary as is the ability to work with ill and infirm people (Fogg,
Harrington, and Harrington). A desire to help others is needed to be a successful worker in the
healthcare department. Patients

The 1947 Roswell Crash Essay
In 1947, an unidentified flying object crashed into the small town of Roswell, New Mexico. The
United States Air Force published a report in 1994. So why do conspiracists still believe an alien
crashed into Roswell? After a hot humid day in July 1947, severe and violent thunderstorms filled the
night sky. Long time farmer, Mac Brazel was used to thunder, and storms out in the country. Although
something about this night was different. He heard an extremely loud crash, though didn t think much
of it. The next morning however, Brazel stumbled upon the debris of a strange object on his farm.
Brazel brought some of the material to a nearby neighbor who urged him to report his find in hopes of
getting a reward. Brazel informed the sheriff ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A nurse friend of Dennis confides in him that she was called by doctors to assist in an alien autopsy.
Even though she is sworn to secrecy, she must confide in someone. She meets Dennis and draws him a
sketch of what she observed during the alien autopsy . Strangely enough, she was transferred from the
funeral home shortly after and never heard from again. The news of the crash soon starts to fade away,
and within the end of the year disappears from the news altogether. Nearly 30 years later, in 1978,
Stanton Friedman was prompted to revisit the crash. Stanton Friedman was an unemployed scientist,
and a part time UFO lecturer. On February 12, 1978 Friedman interviewed a man over the phone who
said he handled the wreckage of a crashed spaceship, but the man, Major Jesse Marcel, couldn t
remember the month or even the year of the event. Marcel expressed that he believed the military had
covered up the recovery of an alien spacecraft. Approximately one year later, William Moore, a
colleague of Friedman, found newspaper clippings of the even that Marcel referred to. The research
that Friedman and Moore uncovered has made the Roswell crash the most celebrated case in the
literature of UFOs. In February of 1980, the National Inquirer ran the interview of Marcel and
Friedman bringing in national and worldwide attention

Elena said And you and I are enemies, Damon, We can never be anything else (Smith 152). As you

English language development: The study authors did not find any statistically significant differences
in the mean language development test scores between the BCIRC students and the comparison group
students both in the study findings and the subgroup findings. However, the WWC reported that the
intervention had potentially positive effects on English language development reading achievement
because the study showed the substantively important positive effect with the large effect sizes (.29 in
the study finding /.38, .22, .53 in the subgroup findings), and it also did not show a statistically
significant or substantively important negative effect. However, the WWC did confirm the statistically
significant positive effects of this finding because only one study was reviewed.

one of the many reasons stated in the article, California tries one solution to water problems treating

Desalination Project. The project is expensive, dangerous, and unreliable, so we should heavily
consider how toxic the aftermath of the project will be, before we make the poor decision to withdraw

should not move forward with the water desalination plant is because it is expensive for everyone. The

The Tiger Rising Summary
Rag summaries: Tigers
1. Fiction:
DiCamillo, Kate. The Tiger Rising. Cambridge, MA: Candlewick, 2001. Print.
In this sometimes heartbreaking, inspiring novel, Rob Horton, a glum, twelve year old boy living his
sad, lonely life with his dad, was wandering through the woods one misty Florida morning when he
finds the most unexpected creature, a beautiful tiger. A real life glistening tiger, locked up in a cage.
On the same outstanding day he meets a fierce girl named Sistine Bailey while in school. Together,
with the tiger always in their hearts;guiding them and leading them to make choices, they go through
heartaches, happiness and loneliness. Also, despite their opposites, they uncover the meaning of true
friendship and learn that the most important things in life, can t stay hidden forever. In my opinion,
this book teaches an important lesson. I think the lesson taught in this novel is inspiring, and is
something worth while. I think this book teaches you that you can t focus on your past, and you can t
keep the whole world locked up forever.
2. Nonfiction:
Wilson, Christina. Tigers. N.p.: n.p., n.d. Print.

Options for Biological Terrorism Attacks and...
Bioterrorism is not a distant threat that may concern us twenty years from now. It has occurred
throughout history and continues to this day. As recently as 1996, a man from Ohio with connections
to an extremist group was able to obtain Bubonic Plague cultures through the US Postal Service
(Danzig Berkowsky, 1997). In the last month, several people within the United States have become
infected with anthrax. As we stand right now, America is unprepared for a large scale attack with
biological weapons, and as we continue with our War on Terrorism, the likelihood of such an attack is
increasing every day. Terrorists can use three major methods to most effectively distribute a biological
agent in the US: 1) air dispersal to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several methods have been suggested for the massive airborne release of biological agents. Crop
dusters, the most likely, are designed to release high concentrations of pesticides over large areas. This
form of pesticide distribution exactly parallels the optimal methods for dispersal of a harmful
biological agent. Stationary sprayers have also been implicated as a potential source of biological
attack and could include backpack sprayers, agricultural sprayers, or even perfume atomizers (Danzig
Berkowsky, 1997). Airborne schemes of distribution are virtually uncontrollable by government
agencies. Crop dusters are available to anyone with a pilot s license and backpack sprayers can be
found in most hardware stores. The consequence of the recent anthrax attacks through the US Postal
service pale in comparison to the potential consequences of such an airborne attack.
Although anthrax is not contagious, there are numerous potential airborne agents that are. Once a
contagious infecting agent, such as smallpox or the plague, enters a population, it can spread very
quickly from one person to the next. With the speed and popularity of air travel, an infection can
spread across the country or even the world, in a matter of days. The contamination of one person with
a highly contagious disease in an airport is all

Essay on Love in the Epic of Gilgamesh and Genesis
At an early point in history, The Epic of Gilgamesh and the story of Genesis were two texts that set the
framework of the entire world. They were two epics that established the foundations of religion,
literature, and all other standards that were followed by every category of people. Both texts entice the
audience through antique language, and the stories of epic heroes and immortal gods. Sin Leqi
Unninni and the many writers of the Bible use love as their central theme, yet it unfolds as having
distinguishing effects on all characters throughout both texts. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, the author
conveys love as a motivational factor for helping Gilgamesh and other characters transition into better
individuals, whereas in the Old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The joyful people will stoop with sorrow; and when you have gone to the earth I will let my hair grow
for your sake, I will wander through the wilderness in the skin of a lion (Unninni 95). He stays with
him until his body starts to diminish, and later finds himself searching for immortality. Gilgamesh
goes on a journey challenging the gods of the underworld searching for his immortality and a chance
to see Enkindu. At the start of the text Gilgamesh was empowered by the acts of raping the towns
women and belittling men, nevertheless, Enkindu is the figure that actually contests Gilgamesh for his
power. It is through Enkindu that he realizes how precious humanity can be. Whether it is a
homosexual or brotherly love, Gilgamesh falls in love with the man in Enkindu that helps him
transpire into a greater human being. This quote reveals the first time that Gilgamesh makes a sacrifice
in the name of love. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, Leqi Unninni conveys through his writing that the
account of Gilgamesh maturing is done through the act of love. In Genesis, Cain shows similar
qualities to Enkindu. Where Enkindu was searching for recognition of the Uruk people, Cain was
fighting for the recognition of God after his sacrifices were not sufficient enough to compete with
those of Abel. As a result, Cain kills his brother, showing the corrupt side of

Representation In Heart Of Darkness Essay
The Others Representation in Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness is one of the most known novels in English literature. The story
begins when Marlow, who works for a Belgian company, went on a journey to the heart of Africa as a
steamship captain. Through his journey, he heard the name of Kurtz for the first time. Then the name
is repeated many times, which made Marlow, who is our narrator in addition to another unknown
narrator, interested to know about Kurtz. Kurtz works for the company as an ivory trader in the Congo
which was at that time one of Belgium s colonies. According to Marlow Kurtz was the ideal English
man, or as what he called him a remarkable man , who holds the banner of civilization. Marlow s

Or does it belong to the company? I think it belongs to the Congo and to the Congolese. Neither Kurtz
nor the company has the right to claim that the ivory belongs to him.
Finally, I believe that Conrad s Heart of Darkness embodies racism to Africa and for women, in which
both are ignorant, silenced and nameless. Conrad s sympathy with Africans under the colonization of
Belgium, does not give him the right to represent them and to celebrate English Imperialism. Albeit
that people of Africa have different skin color or different shape from the European, they are still
human beings and no one has the right to dehumanize them.
Chinua Achebe in his essay An Image of Africa asks not to consider Conrad s Heart of Darkness as
one of the best English novels, because the Africans suffer for a very long time by the dehumanization
and by the European s representation of them. Chinua Achebe states that:
I am talking about a book which parades in the most vulgar fashion prejudices and insults from which
a section of mankind has suffered untold agonies and atrocities in the past and continues to do so in
many ways and many places today. I am talking about a story in which the very humanity of black
people is called in question.

Art As A Driving Force For The Abstract Of Art
Art can be for art s sake; it does not need to be representational. Jackson Pollock was an influential
American painter who became a driving force for the abstract expression movement. His belief that
his art comes from within was an impetrative idea behind his style. His beliefs have a huge impact on
how I view art, create art, and inspired me for my final piece.
Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming in 1912. His father, LeRoy Pollock, was a farmer who raised his
children in Arizona and Chico, California. Pollock was heavily influenced by Pablo Picasso, Digo
Rivera, and Native American art. All of these influences contributed to Pollock s unique style. In
1929, Jackson Pollock studied at the Students League in New York under Thomas Hart Benton. He
learned techniques that helped him understand space, line, color, and much more. In mid 1940 s
Pollock introduced his famous drip paintings. These paintings were such a radical approach to the
changes that happened during and after WWII. Media latched onto his methods and Life soon releases
an article titled Jackson Pollock: Is he the greatest living painter in the United States? The content was
mocking and respectful. Vogue magazine caught onto the avant garde artwork and joined the trend
publishing fashion photographs in front of the beautiful drip paintings. These widely known
companies persuaded society to accept the new idea to art. Pollock struggled with depression and
alcoholism. His premature death in August of 1956,

Symbolism And Symbolism In Wan Echo Sonnet By Robert Pack
In ¨An Echo Sonnet¨ by Robert Pack, he was able to develop a clear message with his carefully
structured poem. By employing a Shakespearean Sonnet form and a rhyming echo that answers the
question raised by the voice, Pack revealed that the echo was the voice´s alter ego. Through the use of
structure and other literary elements such as personification, imagery, and symbolism, the author
developed the idea that although one might have insecurities about the future, it is important to take
the ¨leap¨ of faith in order to truly be alive.
In the first quatrain, the author starts off with general questions about life that helps characterize the
voice. In the first sentence, the voice wonders if he is able to start from nothingness. This could be an
indication for either low aspiration or being too scared to take any actions for progression. To answer
this, the echo replies with ¨start¨. In order to progress on this empty page, everyone must start
somewhere and take that one small step. The voice then worries about the outcome of life by
juxtaposing joy and grief. The echo replies that grief is an outcome of life because it is not trying to
conceal the inevitable truth. This introduction presents the voice as being insecure and anxious as he
tries to understand the meaning of life and an echo that is direct.
The next four lines address death with symbolism and personification to establish the idea of not
fearing the unknown future. In line 5, the voice talks about the life cycle

Analysis Of The Movie The Idea Of A Little Girl
When you go to see a musical for free because their box office numbers are down, you have to adjust
your expectations a little. I know that. But Tuck Everlasting was one of my favorite stories growing
up. The book, the movie... the idea of a little girl whose curiosity and excitement for life could light up
the never ending world of four adults always struck a chord with me, and I was beside myself with
excitement to see how such a whimsical tale could be brought to the stage. For the sake of this essay, I
m going to phrase my opinions in a brash, confident way that make me seem like much more of a
know it all about this show than I, in fact, am.
So, to begin. If you re going to write a musical that relies upon the electric connection between two
characters, you have to have the guts to, you know, let those two characters be onstage together, alone,
even just for a minute or two. The two main characters, Winnie Foster and Jesse Tuck, have an instant
draw to one another the moment they meet, and that unique chemistry propels the story forward.
Without it, one might be so bold as to say that the story falls apart. But I m getting ahead of myself.
Tuck Everlasting is a musical adaptation of the well known novel by Natalie Babbitt. The musical,
which has songs written by the notable duo Miller and Tysen and a book by Claudia Shear and Tim
Federle, follows an eleven year old girl named Winnie Foster, a young girl who meets a family called
the Tucks. The Tucks, after drinking

  • 2. Toyota Hilux Is A Light Commercial Utility Vehicle The Toyota Hilux is a light commercial utility vehicle (ute) manufactured by Japanese company Toyota. The ute has become known for being reliable, sturdy and being able to withstand harsh terrains and abuse. This has led to the automobile becoming known as the unbreakable Hilux . This has subsequently motivated its latest advertising campaign the unbreakable driver . Product analysis: The Hilux is a four wheeled drive (4WD) Ute. The vehicle has a v6 turbo engine, double wishbone suspension and a 750kg towing capacity. (Toyota, 2015) The Ute Market within Australia represents 19.2% of the total motor vehicle industry (Whytcross, 2014). Toyota occupies a large majority of the industry, selling 58,000 light utility vehicles in 2012 (Di Leo, 2013). This is illustrated upon in figure 1 which indicates the market share and precent change in volume sold for the previous year. Despite holding a heavy market share, the Hilux faces direct competition from the Nissan Navara, Holden Colorado, Ford Ranger , Mitsubishi Triton, Mazda BT 50, Isuzu D MAX and the Volkswagen Amarok. The Hilux has been given the title of Unbreakable car . This statue came about from the popular British television show Top Gear. In 2010 the show attempted to destroy the truck, displaying various tests including, crashing into a tree, driving through a cottage, hit by a wrecking ball, drowned in a sea tide and light on fire. • 3. Analysis Of White Noise By Delillo The awareness and difficulty in accepting morality is not only unique to humans today but have been long before. Innovations in medicine, technology and means of communication, have somewhat reduced the likelihood of an early death compared to previous generations of humans, however, such advancements seem not to conjure the desired feelings of joy, but rather feelings of helplessness and irrational fears of death, leading to the suppression and denial of its existence, through consumption of these goods. In his novel, White Noise, DeLillo gives insight into the life of Jack Gladney, who is the [inventor] and chairman of the department of Hitler Studies at the College on the Hill (4), and also carries with him a deep fear of death, and his current wife Babette and their children. DeLillo shows how science and technology end up feeding this fear of death, and causes more difficulty in accepting its existence, as Jack s fear becomes aggravated due to the Airborne Toxic Event, and his vulnerabilities regarding death stem to light, while acknowledgeing that The greater the scientific advance, the more primitive the fear (154), and All plots tend to move deathwards. This is the nature of plots (26). Every object within the novel, the white noise, from the schools, to supermarket, to sounds, and means of media, all convey the presence of death, suggesting that this phenomenon cannot be avoided or outrun. • 4. Critical Analysis Of Requiem For A Dream Requiem for a Dream is a 2000 psychological drama directed by Darren Aronofsky. The story follows four characters as they struggle with, and eventually succumb to their different addictions. This leads to the characters imprisonment in a world of delusions and reckless desperation that is eventually overtaken by reality. The film makes effective use of imagery and sound to create the feeling of the film reeling towards the end at an impossible pace. By the end of the movie, the characters are completely changed: withered, broken, and alone. Requiem for a Dream was screened at the 2000 Cannes film festival, and was met with primarily positive reviews. Darren Aronofsky created the feeling of the film speeding up by shortening the length of the scenes as the film progresses. At the beginning of the movie scenes are 90 seconds to 2 minutes in length, and it s by shortening the length of scenes and frames that he created a sense of unease within the audience. It s also reflective of the emotional states of the characters. At the beginning of the film, the characters aren t necessarily too far gone to be saved. They still have time for each other, for their future, and their plans. But as the scenes shorten their chances of saving themselves become slimmer. They characters find themselves more and more alone as they becomes slaves to their addiction, doing whatever they can to get their next fix. Requiem for a dream is split between two primary narratives which center on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Analysis Of Julie Mehretu s Paintings Julie Mehretu s paintings are loosely termed history paintings by Douglas Fogle and called psychogeographies by the artist herself. A viewer is supposed to find something in themselves much like exploring a city and figuring things out for one s own self interest. Mehretu is quoted as saying my aim is to have a picture that appears one way from a distance almost like a cosmology, city, or universe from afar but then when you approach the work, the overall image shatters into numerous other pictures, stories, and events. Historically drawing is seen as inferior to painting which makes it interesting that Julie Mehretu would employ so much drawing into her canvases because drawing is important to architectural drawings. How does the mapping nature of Julie Mehretu s paintings convey a sense of identity in a very political nature and how is it a representation of the post colonialist world in which we inhabit? Scholars all seem to agree that Mehretu s canvases are maps, but what do they seek to accomplish? My analysis of Mehretu s Stadia III will use a biographical and post colonialist methodology to explore the ways in which Mehretu s own upbringing and how the very nature of her map making, though very artificial, can be seen as a way of both bringing us together and giving those groups that have previously been neglected throughout history a voice. • 7. Minimum Wage and Poverty Poverty is a significant topic that is being investigated, talked about and most importantly lived in by millions in America. Many American citizens, specifically the children are not only living in poverty, but they are living below the poverty line due to low minimum wage (Gidfar). A child living in poverty can face serious problems in the future. Reducing poverty should not be charity work. As citizens of the world it should be a social responsibility to find a way in which poverty can no longer be a living status, especially for a developed country like America. It is one of the top countries before Mexico with the highest rate of child poverty (Gidfar). In context, minimum wage has a large impact on poverty within a country, as the higher the minimum wage the more disposable income families have access to. The discussion of how the elasticity of demand of unskilled workers determines whether or not the minimum wage should be raised to reduce child poverty is essential when validating the relationship between the two variables (Rutkowski 7). While the analysis of William Even and David Macpherson s study emphasizes the importance of taking employment in to account as a variable as an indication to prevent job loss (2), through the clarification that although the United States view child poverty as being an intractable problem (WaldFogel 3), there is evidence to support that a raise in the disposable income of families can lead to reduction in child poverty (Dahl and ... • 8. Analysis Of The Central Subject Of Wuthering Heights By... Midterm Paper The central subject of Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is the love between Heathcliff and Catherine. The novel sets the narrative up for Edgar Linton s proposal to Catherine by having Catharine get bit by the Linton s dog and then having her stay at Thrushcross Grange. During this time, she is learning how to be a proper lady all while becoming closer with the Linton s. The novel sets the narrative up for Catherine s death by showing Catherine s relationship between Edgar and Heathcliff. Although, Catherine is married to Edgar she still has Heathcliff come around because she can t be apart from him. This exceptionally shows during Catherine s death when Heathcliff decides to stay with her, even though he knows Edgar is coming. The1998 film adaptation reveals the same central subject, however, it includes slightly different information and tools to portray the subject. In the novel WH, Catherine enters the room and appears to be disturbed and anxious. Catherine tells Nelly how Edgar Linton asked her to marry him, but she is looking to Nelly for what the right answer may be. She finally comes out and tells Nelly that she has accepted him. Nelly proceeds to ask Catherine why she loves Edgar, Catherine s response is because he is handsome, pleasant to be with, young and cheerful, and because he loves me. Catherine finally gets to the point that Edgar is rich. In her soul and heart, she is convinced she made the wrong decision. Catherine explains how she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Sacred Hoops Phil Jackson coached the Chicago Bulls basketball team to one of the longest winning streaks in professional sports. In his book, Sacred Hoops, he describes his approach to coaching a group of acknowledged stars. He clearly understands that simply collecting a set of outstanding players does not a championship team make. You can t expect a team to perform in a way that is out of tune with its natural abilities, so empowering individuals even superstars to mindfully acknowledge their true abilities and accept what they can and can t change moves any team toward a greater cohesion. Focusing on the awareness of the moment, instilling the notions of selflessness in action and the value of compassion towards fellow players are some of the teachings that Jackson provided for his players. Somehow I never associated the competitive world of a professional sport with Zen practice but clearing the mind and opening the heart is just as relevant there as anywhere else. In dealing with the high pressure situation of highly paid athletes constantly under media scrutiny Jackson, via his practice has been able to reflect on his own actions, look into his essential nature and find solutions to all sorts of problems the Tao of Authority leads him. • 10. Self And Social Identity Theory Paper When Henri Tajfel and John Turner came up the self and social identity theory, they set out to explain the value of understanding self worth. The groups we choose not only shaped our image of our self but also had the ability to affect the way we act in the communities we lived in. So in essence with that definition one could say that our character to the world is perceived through the self image we portray. Understandably, no one wants to do time in prison, especially when they are innocent. America, in comparison to Rick Tyler, could be looked at like a figurative fugitive. The country has been under constant ridicule from other countries, claiming that America has been nothing but a bully. America has been the fugitive on the run for years, with many countries claiming America has many bad things to answer for. America, to them, has been dodging the questions, and many countries believe that America deserves all of the bad things it gets. Each stage has a specific crisis or conflict, a turning point in the individual s life which must be reconciled before moving on to the next. • 21. Airpower And The Allied Victory Essay Airpower s contribution to the Allied victory did not represent the ultimate fulfillment of the prophecies and predictions that were raised in the interwar period. Airpower theorists, on both sides of the Atlantic, advocated predictions and prophecies for the future of warfare. They strongly supported ideas and expectations that airpower and especially strategic bombardment was the best answer in the quest for decisive victory. Airpower was the end and the means to destroy the enemy s will to fight. However, the Trenchardian notion that decisive victory would come through the cumulative moral effect of aerial bombing proved false because German citizens showed a remarkable resilience to surrender. Moreover, the Allies rhetoric that bombers would always get through was far from the reality and resulted in a tremendous number of aircraft losses and fatalities. Finally, the prediction that the airpower can win alone was an overestimated expectation albeit, airpower played a significant role, the decisive victory came as result of a larger joint effort by all the services. After the Great War experience, the idea of strategic bombardment strongly influenced British interwar airpower theorists and advocates. Many stories have similar themes, The Rememberer by Aimee Bender and Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot by Robert Olen Butler are two short stories that do. In The Rememberer, Ben is going through reverse evolution and Annie and Ben both do not know why. It is implied that Ben remembers Annie, but not completely specified. In Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the husband falls out of a tree trying to catch his wife in the act of cheating and gets reincarnated into a parrot. He remembers her, but she does not know it is him and ends up choosing and purchasing him from the pet store, putting him back into his own home. Both stories have ironic tendencies and share a similar theme, but have different meanings. Throughout both stories, the characters are facing internal conflicts. In The Rememberer, Annie is dealing with Ben going through reverse evolution. She does not know why he is going through it or what to do about it, which results in her battling herself in her own mind. She cannot tell anyone what is going on because nobody would believe her, she is stuck telling people that he has a strange sickness and is forced to keep it all inside. In Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the husband is dealing with the internal conflict of being purchased by his wife and brought back into his home where now he is stuck seeing his wife with other men. The conflict comes in to play with the husband because he does not have the vocabulary as a parrot to tell her that it is him. Throughout the two stories, the men are both, somehow, turned into animals. They both may have turned into animals, in one way or another, but those ways are different. In The Rememberer, Ben first turns into an ape, but then turns into a sea turtle, just to turn into a salamander. Whereas, in Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the only animal he is turned into is a parrot. Another difference between the two circumstances is, Ben is going through reverse evolution, so he is turning into many different animals, and the husband went through reincarnation after he fell out of the tree, so he will not change forms. • 29. Carlsbad Desalination Case Study Did you know that the Carlsbad Desalination Project by Poseidon will cost over $1 billion? This is one of the many reasons stated in the article, California tries one solution to water problems treating seawater, by The Sacramento Bee, on why the government should pull the plug on the Carlsbad Desalination Project. The project is expensive, dangerous, and unreliable, so we should heavily consider how toxic the aftermath of the project will be, before we make the poor decision to withdraw 100 million gallons of seawater from the ocean to meet California s water needs. One reason why we should not move forward with the water desalination plant is because it is expensive for everyone. The article by The Sacramento Bee states that Customers ... • 31. Options for Biological Terrorism Attacks and... Bioterrorism is not a distant threat that may concern us twenty years from now. It has occurred throughout history and continues to this day. As recently as 1996, a man from Ohio with connections to an extremist group was able to obtain Bubonic Plague cultures through the US Postal Service (Danzig Berkowsky, 1997). In the last month, several people within the United States have become infected with anthrax. As we stand right now, America is unprepared for a large scale attack with biological weapons, and as we continue with our War on Terrorism, the likelihood of such an attack is increasing every day. Terrorists can use three major methods to most effectively distribute a biological agent in the US: 1) air dispersal to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Several methods have been suggested for the massive airborne release of biological agents. Crop dusters, the most likely, are designed to release high concentrations of pesticides over large areas. This form of pesticide distribution exactly parallels the optimal methods for dispersal of a harmful biological agent. Stationary sprayers have also been implicated as a potential source of biological attack and could include backpack sprayers, agricultural sprayers, or even perfume atomizers (Danzig Berkowsky, 1997). Airborne schemes of distribution are virtually uncontrollable by government agencies. Crop dusters are available to anyone with a pilot s license and backpack sprayers can be found in most hardware stores. The consequence of the recent anthrax attacks through the US Postal service pale in comparison to the potential consequences of such an airborne attack. Although anthrax is not contagious, there are numerous potential airborne agents that are. Once a contagious infecting agent, such as smallpox or the plague, enters a population, it can spread very quickly from one person to the next. With the speed and popularity of air travel, an infection can spread across the country or even the world, in a matter of days. • 32. Essay on Love in the Epic of Gilgamesh and Genesis At an early point in history, The Epic of Gilgamesh and the story of Genesis were two texts that set the framework of the entire world. They were two epics that established the foundations of religion, literature, and all other standards that were followed by every category of people. Both texts entice the audience through antique language, and the stories of epic heroes and immortal gods. Sin Leqi Unninni and the many writers of the Bible use love as their central theme, yet it unfolds as having distinguishing effects on all characters throughout both texts. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, the author conveys love as a motivational factor for helping Gilgamesh and other characters transition into better individuals, whereas in the Old ... He stays with him until his body starts to diminish, and later finds himself searching for immortality. Gilgamesh goes on a journey challenging the gods of the underworld searching for his immortality and a chance to see Enkindu. At the start of the text Gilgamesh was empowered by the acts of raping the towns women and belittling men, nevertheless, Enkindu is the figure that actually contests Gilgamesh for his power. It is through Enkindu that he realizes how precious humanity can be. Whether it is a homosexual or brotherly love, Gilgamesh falls in love with the man in Enkindu that helps him transpire into a greater human being. This quote reveals the first time that Gilgamesh makes a sacrifice in the name of love. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, Leqi Unninni conveys through his writing that the account of Gilgamesh maturing is done through the act of love. In Genesis, Cain shows similar qualities to Enkindu. Where Enkindu was searching for recognition of the Uruk people, Cain was fighting for the recognition of God after his sacrifices were not sufficient enough to compete with those of Abel. As a result, Cain kills his brother, showing the corrupt side of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Representation In Heart Of Darkness Essay The Others Representation in Conrad s Heart of Darkness Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness is one of the most known novels in English literature. The story begins when Marlow, who works for a Belgian company, went on a journey to the heart of Africa as a steamship captain. Through his journey, he heard the name of Kurtz for the first time. Then the name is repeated many times, which made Marlow, who is our narrator in addition to another unknown narrator, interested to know about Kurtz. Kurtz works for the company as an ivory trader in the Congo which was at that time one of Belgium s colonies. According to Marlow Kurtz was the ideal English man, or as what he called him a remarkable man , who holds the banner of civilization. Marlow s dream ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Or does it belong to the company? I think it belongs to the Congo and to the Congolese. Neither Kurtz nor the company has the right to claim that the ivory belongs to him. Finally, I believe that Conrad s Heart of Darkness embodies racism to Africa and for women, in which both are ignorant, silenced and nameless. Conrad s sympathy with Africans under the colonization of Belgium, does not give him the right to represent them and to celebrate English Imperialism. Albeit that people of Africa have different skin color or different shape from the European, they are still human beings and no one has the right to dehumanize them. Chinua Achebe in his essay An Image of Africa asks not to consider Conrad s Heart of Darkness as one of the best English novels, because the Africans suffer for a very long time by the dehumanization and by the European s representation of them. Chinua Achebe states that: I am talking about a book which parades in the most vulgar fashion prejudices and insults from which a section of mankind has suffered untold agonies and atrocities in the past and continues to do so in many ways and many places today. I am talking about a story in which the very humanity of black people is called in question. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Art As A Driving Force For The Abstract Of Art Art can be for art s sake; it does not need to be representational. Jackson Pollock was an influential American painter who became a driving force for the abstract expression movement. His belief that his art comes from within was an impetrative idea behind his style. His beliefs have a huge impact on how I view art, create art, and inspired me for my final piece. Pollock was born in Cody, Wyoming in 1912. His father, LeRoy Pollock, was a farmer who raised his children in Arizona and Chico, California. Pollock was heavily influenced by Pablo Picasso, Digo Rivera, and Native American art. All of these influences contributed to Pollock s unique style. In 1929, Jackson Pollock studied at the Students League in New York under Thomas Hart Benton. He learned techniques that helped him understand space, line, color, and much more. In mid 1940 s Pollock introduced his famous drip paintings. These paintings were such a radical approach to the changes that happened during and after WWII. Media latched onto his methods and Life soon releases an article titled Jackson Pollock: Is he the greatest living painter in the United States? The content was mocking and respectful. Vogue magazine caught onto the avant garde artwork and joined the trend publishing fashion photographs in front of the beautiful drip paintings. These widely known companies persuaded society to accept the new idea to art. Pollock struggled with depression and alcoholism. His premature death in August of 1956, ... • 35. Symbolism And Symbolism In Wan Echo Sonnet By Robert Pack In ¨An Echo Sonnet¨ by Robert Pack, he was able to develop a clear message with his carefully structured poem. By employing a Shakespearean Sonnet form and a rhyming echo that answers the question raised by the voice, Pack revealed that the echo was the voice´s alter ego. Through the use of structure and other literary elements such as personification, imagery, and symbolism, the author developed the idea that although one might have insecurities about the future, it is important to take the ¨leap¨ of faith in order to truly be alive. In the first quatrain, the author starts off with general questions about life that helps characterize the voice. In the first sentence, the voice wonders if he is able to start from nothingness. This could be an indication for either low aspiration or being too scared to take any actions for progression. To answer this, the echo replies with ¨start¨. In order to progress on this empty page, everyone must start somewhere and take that one small step. The voice then worries about the outcome of life by juxtaposing joy and grief. The echo replies that grief is an outcome of life because it is not trying to conceal the inevitable truth. This introduction presents the voice as being insecure and anxious as he tries to understand the meaning of life and an echo that is direct. The next four lines address death with symbolism and personification to establish the idea of not fearing the unknown future. In line 5, the voice talks about the life cycle ... • 36. Analysis Of The Movie The Idea Of A Little Girl When you go to see a musical for free because their box office numbers are down, you have to adjust your expectations a little. I know that. But Tuck Everlasting was one of my favorite stories growing up. The book, the movie... the idea of a little girl whose curiosity and excitement for life could light up the never ending world of four adults always struck a chord with me, and I was beside myself with excitement to see how such a whimsical tale could be brought to the stage. For the sake of this essay, I m going to phrase my opinions in a brash, confident way that make me seem like much more of a know it all about this show than I, in fact, am. So, to begin. If you re going to write a musical that relies upon the electric connection between two characters, you have to have the guts to, you know, let those two characters be onstage together, alone, even just for a minute or two. The two main characters, Winnie Foster and Jesse Tuck, have an instant draw to one another the moment they meet, and that unique chemistry propels the story forward. Without it, one might be so bold as to say that the story falls apart. But I m getting ahead of myself. Tuck Everlasting is a musical adaptation of the well known novel by Natalie Babbitt. The musical, which has songs written by the notable duo Miller and Tysen and a book by Claudia Shear and Tim Federle, follows an eleven year old girl named Winnie Foster, a young girl who meets a family called the Tucks. The Tucks, after drinking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
