Sneak Analysis
3 Ways to Sneak in More Self Care Making space to take care of yourself and prioritise your needs is
one of the biggest challenges busy, high achieving women face.
When life gets overpowering and levels of stress rise, it s so tantalizing to clear out your calendar by
taking off the things which you do for yourself. On the surface, it can seem like the easiest, swiftest,
lowest conflict path to making more time, energy, and getting the critical stuff dealt with. The
difficulty is that it isn t.
When you re living a life where getting things done and looking after multiple responsibilities is
imperative, this means you are critical. When your presence is important, when other folks need and

The truth is, when I pay myself first when I put my workout at the top of the list, when I take the time
at the start of my week to plan my meals or plan some good down time in my week? I not only feel
better all week, I perform better. I am more targeted and creative. I feel more alive and I have more to
give. My clients notice this as well. When they drop the assumption that they have no time for
themselves and start putting their self care first, they really get more done.
3. Make self care an appointment and make it a standing date. Mull it over. If something is tricky to
do, why make yourself reinvent the wheel and start anew with doing it every time? When you can, it is
often best to make self care a ritual.
A client who was continually traveling for her company fought with emotional overeating when she
was on the road. She struggled with the easy way to take care of herself and make great food and
portion decisions in each new hotel and new town she visited. One simple step we took to reduce her
stress and to help her take control of emotional eating was to design rituals that helped ground her and
she could use to relax, plan her eating decisions, and limit stress eating. The key was to systematize
things so she had a ritual she was used to completing at set times of the day and that would kick in
even if she is away from

Poverty In Haiti Essay
During the 18th century, France possessed the colony known to them as Saint Domingue, an island in
the Caribbean Sea. Possessing valuable resources and optimal conditions for growing expensive crops
such as sugar, France dedicated much of their money into this little island, allowing Saint Domingue
to become the most wealthy colony in this time period. However, the Haitian slaves revolted against
the French colonial rulers, resulting in the only completely successful slave rebellion in history.
However, the cost of the war, natural disasters, and a French independence tax very soon crippled the
former colony, leading to an almost instantaneous decline in the country s wealth and prosperity.
Today, Haiti has the shameful title of the poorest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the arguments that they might bring up happen to avoid some of the details that in actuality
create a need for further government involvement, not the same amount. According to the World
Bank, poverty rates did indeed drop about 7%, and schools gained more students than ever before. (
Extreme poverty drops ). While the article does indeed highlight the decrease in extreme poverty and
increase in school enrollment, the rest of the paragraph shows just how the country has a long way to
go. To start, the 7% decrease in poverty was over the span of 13 years. Even if the amount of time was
not present, those who climbed out of poverty accounts for about 200,000 people, in a country that
houses over 10 million. According to another article by the National Public Radio, the rates of death
after natural disasters like Hurricane Matthew decreased, and the health of the survivors was better
than after other storms (Beaubien). Mass death is never a good thing, and even though less of it is
almost always a good thing, the amount of those who died after Hurricane Matthew is still tragic and
unacceptable. Haiti s government did indeed lower the death rates, but the rates to which they were
lowered are still

Musical Theatre Experience
Musical Theatre a Powerful Experience
Ninety percent of people feel stage fright when they face the prospects of a public performance
(Sharma). This statistic reveals that many people suffer from being unable to speak or perform
publicly. Being a part of musical theater can help overcome those fears, and give individuals the
ability to have less anxiety. In order to fully appreciate the benefits of musical theater, an individual
must first know what makes this genre special, how participants can gain confidence in this art form,
and how friendships can develop so that fears of performing and speaking in front of others are
conquered.
Before a detailed explanation of what musical theatre is being given, it is important that an individual

An actor, Daniel Wallen explains that if he was not involved in theatre and acting classes he would not
have met many of his friends (Wallen). He also explains that he was able to meet diverse people, and
learn about their ways of life. He realized that everyone had different backgrounds, but they were able
to come together through theatre (Wallen). Theatre can also help to expand people s world. Wallen
also states, Some dramatic scenes require you to tap into passionate emotions like anger, despair,
hatred, love, shame, and yearning. While this is far from easy for any beginning actor, you ll become
more comfortable tapping into your full emotional range as time goes on (Wallen). This describes how
acting forces individuals to step out of their comfort zones, and expand their emotions and skills. The
last point shows how acting can help individuals to understand people s minds. When an individual
views another actor on stage, it is easy to learn more about the performer. For example, Wallen
explains that It helps us understand how our minds and the minds of others work. It helps us to see
how the environments in which we live affect who we are and who we will become (Wallen). He is
suggesting that witnessing someone as they are in their element can help to understand that person,

The Modern Day Financial Instruments Involving Option...
Risk Management involving the commodities market has always been a concern for several
international companies. The best substantial method to cope with currency risk is using currency
derivatives. Many countries are interdependent on each other due to Globalization, which has led to
increasing exposure to exchange rate volatility. Recent studies have shown that risk cannot be
eliminated completely but it can be minimized when companies make decisions, which are backed by
the correct risk management policies. We found out in this paper that there is no single best method to
manage currency risk, but hedging using options provides us with the most accurate or profitable
outcomes.

Various companies including insurers and banks were exposed to high risk in terms of rate of interest,
exchange rates and price of commodities and raw materials. Derivatives then became increasingly
popular to minimize the risk of volatility in the market.
Financial derivatives are basically contracts between two parties under which they agree to exchange a
commodity on a certain date. In simple words derivatives are insurance policies used by a company to
minimize its exposure to volatility.
It was found out that during the period of 1975 to 2009 the volatility in foreign investments was
reduced due to currency hedging. In this paper we talk about the various currency options, which are
used by various corporations and banks for hedging. We use the example of crude oil to better
understand the concept.
The various types of currency derivatives are futures, options, currency swaps and forwards. There are
three types of exchange rate risks translation, transaction and economic exposure.
Globalization has made the world a smaller place and the exposure to overseas markets is increasing.
In order to last long this competitive environment the companies have to focus on all the aspects to
make the maximum profits, which makes it essential for them to manage risk in exchange rate. The

Backyard Blues Poem Analysis
In Natasha Trethewey s poetry collection Native Guard, the reader is exposed to the story of
Trethewey s growing up in the southern United States and the tragedy which she encountered during
her younger years, in addition to her experiences with prejudice and to issues surrounding prejudice
within the society she is living in. Throughout this work, Trethewey often refers to graves and
provides compelling imagery regarding the burial of the dead. Within Trethewey s work, the recurring
imagery surrounding graves evolves from the graves simply serving as a personal reminder of the
past, to a statement on the collective memory of society and comments on how Trethewey is troubled
with what society has forgotten as it signifies a willingness to overlook the dehumanization of a large
group of people.
The idea of graves representing memory is introduced in Part I of the collection within the poem
Graveyard Blues . The final stanza of the poem says, I wander now among the names of the dead: My
mother s name, stone pillow for my head (8). First, while the word grave does not appear within this
line, it is heavily implied by the speaker using her mother s name as a stone pillow. The reader can
deduce that this line is referring to a gravestone as when one thinks of a gravestone they usually
picture an upright slab of rock with the name of the deceased engraved within it, and both of these
elements are emphasized within this line. The main way that this line alludes to personal

Infantile Autism Essay
What is Autism? Did you know, according to CCN, about sixty eight children has Autism Spectrum
Disorder (ASD)? ASD, also known as autism, is a brain disorder that interferes with a person s
behavior and/or interactions with others. The word autism, which has been in use for about 100 years,
comes from the Greek word autos, meaning self. The term describes conditions in which a person is
removed from social interaction hence, an isolated self (WedMD). Autism itself is often called autistic
disorder , childhood autism , or infantile autism . It appears in infancy and early childhood, causing
delay in many basic actions that develops at that time, such as learning to talk, ... Show more content

The word Autism was first used in 1908 to describe schizophrenia, a brain disorder in which people
interpret reality abnormally, people who were self absorbed or cocky. In 1943, Dr. Leo Kenner was the
first to used Autism for kids who were highly intelligent but did not want to interact with others, he
called this early infantile autism. In 1950, Bruno Bettelhiem, a child development specialist, viewed
autism was being caused by emotionally cold and distanced mothers. This became known as the
Refrigerator Mother Theory . The Refrigerator Mother Theory is when a mother does not interact, or
play, with the child at all, causing the child to be fridged ( David E. Simpson, J.J. Hanley, and Gordon
Quinn in the film History of Autism Blame ). In 1987, The DSM ( Dianostic and Statistical Manual of
Matal Disorders) replaced infantile autism with autism disorder . Around this time, researchers used to
think the cause of autism was due to bad parenting. Not only that, the federal government made autism
a special education category. This allowed public schools to start knowing children with autism and
offer them special services. Some children would be sent to foster care to see if they would recover
back then, By this time, many researchers were convinced that the basic reasons were to be found in
neurological disturbances, sometimes combined with hereditary illnesses like tuberous sclerosis,
metabolic disturbances like PKU or chromosomal aberrations such as fragile X chromosome (Certec).
In 1994, the National Alliance for Autism Research and Cure Autism Now raised awareness about
ASD. Later on that year, researchers began to believe that the cause of autism was due to mercury in
vaccines. This lead to vaccine makers to stop making thimerosal, a vaccine that is made of mainly
mercury. In 2001, the National Institute of Health could not find

Activity-based costing in restaurants
Activity based costing in restaurants
1. Introduction
Interest in cost and management accounting practices in the restaurant industry is rising (Raab et al.,
2009; Annaraud et al., 2008). Pavesic (1985) has initiated research in pricing and cost accounting for
restaurants, introducing the concept of profit factor
(PF) in menu engineering (ME). Prior studies, such as the one presented in Chan and
Au (1998) investigate the implications of not incorporating overhead costs in menu item profitability
analyses in restaurants in Hong Kong. Since then, a number of researchers have examined the
application of contemporary cost and management accounting techniques, and particularly activity
based costing (ABC) in a restaurant
environment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To this end Kaplan and Cooper (1998) suggest that service companies are ideal candidates for ABC.
One reason for this is that in the services industry a great percentage of total cost is labour cost and
processes are highly variant (Kostakis et al.,
2008). Studies have shown the possible use and potential benefits of ABC in the hotel industry
(Kostakis et al., 2011; Berts and Kock, 1995; Noone and Griffin, 1999).
New techniques assisting large scale ABC implementation have also been developed in recent years
(Kaplan and Anderson, 2004).
The restaurant industry is facing great challenges today, mainly due to the highly competitive
environment and the diverse needs of the customers. Restaurants have to achieve a balance between
serving these needs, and pricing their menu items to achieve adequate profitability levels (Raab et al.,
2009).Traditional costing systemsand simplistic pricing approaches were very popular within the
restaurant industry. Overhead cost and operating expenses were usually excluded and prices were a
function of food cost, as well as customer demand, historical prices and other factors. This method has
the evident disadvantage of leading to misleading information about individual menu items.

Essay on The Robber Bridegroom by Eudora Welty
The Robber Bridegroom by Eudora Welty
Eudora Welty s first novel, The Robber Bridegroom, is a combination of fantasy and reality while
exploring the duality of human nature, time, and the word man lives in. The union of legend,
Mississippi history and Grimms fairy tales create an adult dream world. Every character in the story
has little insight to themselves and how they relate to the world around them. The antics of Mike Fink,
the Harps, the bandits, and the Indians closely relate to Mississippi folklore. The blending of actual
history and pure fantasy create a much richer form of entertainment. Mike Fink was an American
frontiersman who is said to have beaten Davy Crockett in a shooting contest. The Harpe brothers were

Rosamond is looking forward to the future, to be free from her stepmother and experience love
besides that between father and daughter. The story is loaded with cruel and horrible acts. Mike Fink
tries to kill Jamie and Clement for bags of gold; Clement s first wife dies after seeing their son thrown
into boiling water by Indians, Kentucky Thomas is killed leaving his ugly wife to marry Clement, an
Indian girl is raped and killed by Little Harp, and Rosamond is raped by Jamie. All of these acts are
overpowered, however, by the humor of the characters. The three main characters represent clear
opposites in their own characters. Rosamond is beautiful and pure but could not tell the truth to save
her life. Clement is a planter who is restless and loves to travel. Jamie is a criminal as well as a
bridegroom. Their outside appearance can undermine the opinions of others. If being a bandit were his
breadth and scope, I should find him and kill him for sure, said he. But since in addition he loves my

Messiah: Ev ry Valley
By: Tabitha Watkins

Mood is the affections (to impress the mid or move the feelings of our emotions, emotional response).
Composers of this time shaped or molded a musical language to depict the affections. Music is written
to fit the needs of society in our always changing world. Church music during this time was very
elaborate and music was usually only heard in the churches and if you were wealth enough during that
time you could go hear music in public opera houses. Religious music was a huge part of baroque era;
it saw the creation of tonality, made changes in musical notation, and developed new instrumental
playing techniques.

This piece is based upon the scriptural text from the King James Bible it was first performed in Dublin
in 1742; Handel makes use of the renaissance technique of word painting and multi part polyphony. It
uses fascinating word painting and is repeated throughout the piece. This piece comes from the
oratorio called Messiah; it is the third piece of Messiah. It is the combination of homophony and
polyphony with the addition of two trumpets. There are also two oboes, two violins, a viola, and a
basso continuo. The use of basso continuo (instrumental accompaniment) requires a chordal
instrument and a thoroughbass.
When we put Purcells Didos lament next to Handels Messiah in order to compare and contrast them
you will notice some interesting things; to start they are both a different genre since one was created
during the Baroque time period and the other in the classical, obviously they are both composed by a
different person, Didos lament is an opera aria whereas Ev ry valley is an oratorio aria. Operas
purpose is secular entertainment which is usually performed in a theater and is fully dramatic with
staging and costumes. Oratorios purpose is sacred entertainment which is also performed in a theater
but is a concert type. The both have the same musical form of a recitative and they are both
accompanied by an orchestra. Both the opera and Oratorios were made around the same time. To make

Engstrom plant was concentrating on cost savings, producing more per hour of labor spent. Scatlon
plan was working very well for some period of time by increasing productivity and employees
motivation, higher profits and employees receiving good financial rewards. However, by the year of
2007 situation at plant started getting worse which led to the conclusion that famous Scatlon plan was
not effective anymore.
First of all, occurred distrust that bonuses are not calculated in truthful way. Employees started
doubting company s complex nature of the calculation itself while appointing amounts of bonuses.
Secondly, there was a question of fairness when some employees thought that they should receive
more bonuses as they are putting more efforts and work than other ones. As a consequence such
moods at workplace led to the primary stage when Scatlon plan had not been adopted yet: employees
became passive, work became inefficient and employers started layoffs.
Therefore, it leads to the conclusion that in this case the main issue is appropriate employees
motivation and satisfying job conditions, which could be achieved by choosing right incentives plan.
However, sticking to the same incentives plan also might not be a good idea because people usually

How Effective Can International Law Be As A Regulator Of...
How Effective can International Law be as a Regulator of State Conduct?
Introduction
When sovereign states fail to comply with international law (IL), it can be stated bluntly that
supranational legal organizations are systematically incapable of responding with coercive or punitive
measures. If the efficacy of IL is unabashedly defined in strict terms of coercive and punitive power, it
is unsurprising that it falls short as an effective regulatory mechanism of state conduct. Instead, a
better measure of effectiveness regarding international law is one that understands compliance of IL as
a norm adoption platform primarily directed at nation states. Effectiveness of IL as a regulator of state
conduct can be understood as the conformity of behavior to rules, rather than the ultimate outcome of
such conformity.
Institutional platforms, representing universally accepted social norms, have the power to influence
state behavior and legal order. International law can be an effective regulatory mechanism for state
conduct if a norm cycle activates in which international norms trickle down into domestic structures
and a trajectory towards national policy outcomes transpires. International law can be immensely
powerful in influencing the domestic political arena; it is therefore conceivable that international law
could serve as a regulatory mechanism within state conduct given national structures exhibit
willingness and agreement with international norms.

Operant Conditioning And Social Learning
When I was in my psychology class in high school, we spent a month talking about classical
conditioning and we did many interesting experiments involving it. We also touched on operant
conditioning and social learning, so I have some background knowledge in this subject. Classical and
operant conditioning, along with social learning, are all ways to teach animals or humans how to
behave. These theories developed because psychologists wanted to understand why people behave the
way they do and many famous experiments have been conducted to answer this question. It was very
interesting to learn more about these theories and how they work, and relating them to my own
personal experiences.
Classical conditioning is when a person or animal associates two stimuli and creates a ... Show more

The dogs would start to salivate just by hearing the bell ringing, which normally would not produce
this response. The first part of the process involves an unconditioned response, like blinking or
salivating. The next part needed for classical conditioning is an unconditioned stimulus. The
unconditioned stimulus is one that automatically produces the unconditioned response, such as the
smell of food triggering salivation. During conditioning, the neutral stimulus, like the bell in Pavlov s
case, is repeatedly paired with the unconditioned stimulus, or the meat powder. After a while, the
neutral stimulus becomes the conditioned stimulus. The conditioned stimulus then produces a
conditioned response, since the subject of the experiment has associated the conditioned stimulus with
the unconditioned response. Many interesting experiments have been conducted using classical
conditioning. Another scientist that preformed an experiment with classical conditioning is John B.
Watson. Watson used classical conditioned to make a young boy fear white fluffy objects. He scared
the child by making loud noises every time the child was presented a white rat.

The Death Of Judge Rusty Sabich
Innocent recounts a period, from 2008 2009, in the life of Judge Rusty Sabich. It is divided into three
main sections (pre trial, trial, and post trial) and narrated from several points of view, such as Rusty
Sabich, a judge in Kindle County; Nat Sabich, a law school graduate and the son of Rusty; Tommy
Molto, a Kindle County prosecuting attorney; and Anna Vostic, a law clerk and Rusty s mistress.
However, the overarching story narrative focuses on the death of Barbara Sabich and the trial of
Rusty, her husband, for her murder. The murder trial in Innocent occurs twenty years after Rusty was
tried for the murder of Carolyn Polhemus. Polhemus was an attorney, who was strangled in her
apartment. Also, she was Rusty s mistress. At trial, Rusty was acquitted for Polhemus s murder and the
case was never solved. Another aspect of the book is the appeal of John Harnason, a convicted
poisoner, who Rusty has extrajudicial involvement with. Innocent is a standalone sequel to Scott
Turow s book Presumed Innocent, which recounts the Polhemus trial in detail. Innocent opens with
the perspective of Nat Sabich and the following lines: A man is sitting on a bed. He is my father. The
body of a woman is beneath the covers. She was my mother (1). Nat proceeds to report about the
death of his mother, Barbara. Essentially, Rusty wakes on the morning of September 30, 2008 to find
his wife dead. He waits for a period of 24 hours before informing Nat and the police. The waiting
period leads to

LOFT Personality Analysis Essay All our personalities compare to a character from Lord of the Flies,
and I found myself to be an ENFP or an idealist; someone most comparable to Simon. An ENFP or an
idealist personality displays characteristics of being extroverted, intuitive, feeling and perceiving
which. Furthermore, passionately concerned with positive improvement, being kind, warm,
sympathetic, distracted and motivated were all trait described in the personality test for the ENFP. Due
to our selflessness, how introverted and extroverted we are, and how we can think both logically and
emotionally, makes Simon and I most similar.
The idealist is often trying to help others, as well as the world, enhancing it in any way they can, as
stated by the personality test. Simon displays this need to help others through many of his actions
within the book, as Simon thought this...the beast was harmless and horrible; and the news must reach
the others as soon as possible. He started down the mountain and his legs give beneath him (Lowry
147). In this passage, Simon is hurt yet he wants to help resume order amongst the boys, by
eliminating the fear that controls them, which show he has a vision for a better world. Then, amid the
roar of bees in the afternoon sunlight, Simon found for them the fruit they could not reach, pulled off
the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless, outstretched hands (Lowry
56). Similarly, Simon also is the only one that

Henrietta Lacks Ethics
Henrietta Lacks died in 1951 of cervical cancer, leaving behind a husband, five children and some
cells taken from her without her permission. These cells continue to revolutionize the scientific field
today and have played an integral role in some of the most important advances in medicine: cloning,
chemotherapy, gene mapping, the polio vaccine and in vitro fertilization. The Immortal Life of
Henrietta Lacks answers a lot of questions regarding the Lacks family, but also poses a number of
questions regarding ethics, consent and how far society is willing to go to make medical advances.
George Gey was the head of tissue culture at Hopkins and was determined to grow the first immortal
human cells. Researchers in 1943 proved an immortal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people would assume that, because of HeLa s impact on society, the Lacks family is probably
very wealthy and well informed about HeLa cells; unfortunately, that is not the case. Not only did the
Lacks feel taken advantage of by the medical community, but it wasn t until an article by Howard
Jones in December 1971 that Henrietta s real name was finally revealed. That same article was used to
inform Bobbette Lacks, Henrietta s daughter in law, that the immortal cells she had been reading about
in the paper were Henrietta s. Bobbette was the first member of the Lacks family to learn about the
fate of Henrietta s cells and she immediately ran to the family yelling, Part of your mother, it s alive!

published an article in Rolling Stone that informed the Lacks family that people were buying and
selling Henrietta s cells. The family immediately accused Hopkins of withholding money from them.
Lawrence, Henrietta s eldest son, was quoted saying, Hopkins say they gave them cells away, but they
made millions! It s not fair! She s the most important person in the world and her family living in
poverty. If our mother so important to

The And Its Impact On The Future
The man, a little being compared to the Universe, often feels threatened by wars, comets, natural
phenomena and all those dates that contain repeating numbers that seem to bring the end of the world,
but truly the end comes? To this day, many predictions about the end of the world have emerged, but
none has come true, that is why it has always existed and will probably continue to exist that doubt
about what will happen to the world in the future. The end has been predicted by scientists, ancient
civilizations, different religions, and many others. For example, Nostradamus was one of the most
famous scientists that wrote many prophecies and events about the future, his predictions are known
worldwide and have impacted societies; as him, there are other scientists such as Isaac Newton,
Stephen Hawking, and Richard Noone. Moreover, the Mayans, an ancient civilization, known as one
of the most advanced civilizations in the field of mathematics, astronomy, physics and arts; they are
also known for predicting that the world would end of December 21, 2012. Perhaps, this was one of
the most famous prophecies in recent times. Also, different religions such as the Jehovah s Witnesses
has predicted many times the end of the world. The impact of this topic is very well known, many
people have been influenced greatly. Even Hollywood have been carried away by those predictions
and theories, creating movies such as The day after tomorrow or 2012 , where they show what would
happen.

The Theory Of Leadership Theories
There are volumes composed on Leadership theories in about every discipline. Bolman and Deal
filtered through the puzzling hypotheses of literature and joined with their experience, investigations,
observation and experience on four frame model. Frame can be described as the lens of a glass so that
everyone can see the world. Frame are used to through it. Frame gives every individual to establish
their own business and to run smoothly. People need these frames because to know the real world and
what sense and to experience it, it also helps us to guide our action.

2. The Human Resource Framework
The human resource deals with people s views as it is the heart of any organization system and it gives
supportive responsive to needs and goals to achieve commitment and loyalty. The most important
thing on human resource management is to support and liberation. The HR administrator listens well
and imparts individual warmth and honesty. The people engages individuals through support and
actions to pick up the assets individuals need to carry out work well. HR supervisors go up against
when proper yet attempt to do as such in a friendly atmosphere.
 Organization is there to serve the people or human needs, rather than the human existing for
organizational needs.
 People and organization both are important to each other. Because organization needs power, talent
and ideas to implement and more over people need basic needs like shelter, food and clothes the
organization provide these all in the type of salary and opportunities too full their dreams.
 When there is a misunderstanding between the individual and organization both will suffer and

Kuhn And Popper Controversy
The purpose of this paper is to discuss Kuhn and Popper controversy and defend Pooper s point of
view in logistic positivism in relation to scientific discover. According to Moore (2010), positivism
assumes that scientific knowledge is the highest form of knowledge, and that scientific knowledge
comes from studying directly observable and measurable events. Both philosophers support the notion
of intellectual intuition to approve the theory through empirical evidence and experience. Although
both philosopher, Pooper and Kuhn, endorsed logical positivism, they disagree on their scientific
methodology to describe the natural of science and the scientific knowledge. Kuhn believed that
science develops through stages and these stages are susceptible to evolution to form the next
paradigm . Kuhn believed in scientific revolution that allows some flexibility in the theory to be

He argued that science in philosophy should be based on deductive reasoning and rational
observations rather than weak falsification or verification that Kuhn stands for. Pooper (1963) rejected
the complete dependence on believes and personal opinion as proposed by Kuhn (as cited in Schick,
2000). In fact, he believed in standardizing the scientific method to approach any conflict by
challenging scientists to falsify their theories all the time. Here, Popper had stronger strategy that test
theories constantly to achieve higher level of evidence. Moore (2010) stated that the statement of a
meaningful theory for Popper was the ability to identify what would falsify it when was tested against
the facts of experience. This approach seems to be more practical by its uniform and cohesive
structure to develop scientific theories. Thus, defending Pooper s position in this paper was

Writers of the 1920 s
The 1920 s had many influential writers in literature. While reaching this time period it is almost
certain that the names William Faulkner, Earnest Hemingway, and F. Scott Fitzgerald will be found.
Each of the writers has their own personal style of writing and each one of the lives has influenced
what they write about to even the way they each portray their literature.
William Cuthbert Faulkner was born into a financially stable family from New Albany, Mississippi.

F. Scott Fitzgerald was an incredible writer. He often uses incidences from his life in his writings.
Fitzgerald fell in love with Zelda Sayre and married her. They lived all over the United States and
Europe.(Eble 22)
In his writings his life with Zelda is highly portrayed. In the writing of The Basil and Duke Lee
Stories there are a lot of similarities to his life. These stories are almost a diary of his life in a fictional
form.(Eble 22 24) The most popular of Fitzgerald s writings is The Great Gatsby. This is because
Fitzgerald s writing style had matured so much from his earlier works. The book offers great insight in
to his adult life, showing how truely unhappy he was. (Eble 86 88)
Each of these writers have contributed a great deal to American literature. Faulkner, Hemingway, and
Fitzgerald s lives had a great impact on their fiction. Through their writing, readers can begin to
understand the happenings of that decade. The twenties are always going to be remembered through
their works.

Potato Famine of 1845 Essay
At the end of the summer of 1845, a thick rain fell throughout Ireland, carrying with its pores of blight
that killed multiple crops, including the potato crop. Because Ireland was dependent on the potato
crop, the results of this blight were catastrophic. Britain, who had control over Ireland at this time, did
very little to help the now starving and poor Irish. As a result of English disregard towards the Irish
during the Potato Famine of 1845, the already fragile relationship between Ireland and England
worsened.
When this particular blight, containing the fungus phytophthora infestans, struck the potatoes, it killed
the tuber of the plant and potatoes all throughout Ireland began to rot. The blight also hit the rest of

Furthermore, there was an outbreak of cholera in 1849. Ireland was running out of space for corpses to
be buried, so hundreds of these bodies were not buried with coffins; just a few inches below the soil
and ground almost touching the corpse next to it (Kinealy, 93). Many of the Irish that didn t die from
these diseases did die from starvation. Seeing as the potato was main source of nutrition for many
Irish people, many became malnourished. Not only was it nutritious, but also the potato was very
cheap and fed large amounts of people. The Potato Famine hit the hardest in 1847; it was the height of
hunger in Ireland. It is thought that over half of a million people die in 1847, compared to the million
that died from 1845 1848 (Kinealy, 92). Many of the Irish chose to become potato farmers, due to the
fact that it could be grown on such cheap land. When the famine hit, thousands soon found themselves
out of work. Many could not pay their rent, and were evicted. Some landlords tried their best to help
their tenants and not charge them for rent, but soon they needed a source of income as well (Scally,

families were left out on the street to die (Kinealy, 125). Now, homeless and starving, many soon

The Once And Future King s Lasting Lessons Essay

The Once and Future King s Lasting Lessons In times of crisis, people must rely on their morals and
wisdom to come to a solution. Often times, people do not have enough knowledge stored in their
minds to make a wise decision. However, if people would read between the lines of books, they would
come to the realization that there are many life lessons to learn from the wise words of authors.
Throughout the novel The Once and Future King, three major themes are presented. These themes
include war is destructive, people should not try to alter their destiny, and family is not always loyal.
All three of these themes are presented multiple times and three different characters enforce each one.
War is synonymous with destruction. Humanity has dealt with war since the beginning of time, yet
people continue to start it, despite the bloodshed and trauma. It isn t until thousands of lives are lost
that people begin to wonder if the war they ve been fighting is truly worth it. In The Once and Future
King, King Arthur was exposed to the consequences of war as a young boy when Merlyn transformed
him into an ant. He saw the horrors of being around bloodthirsty, ruthless beings. Right before the ants
were about to fight, Arthur had a moment of reflection, The time for war came soon enough. The
preparations were in order, the soldiers were drilled to the last ounce, the walls of the nest had

The MOVE Disaster
Quality leadership is a telling sign of a successful organization. When given the opportunity to guide
or direct others, a leader is capable of drawing individuals or groups together to accomplish certain
goals. Given the responsibility to address a problem that had developed over a span of many months
concerning a cult (an unorthodox or misguided group of extremist) called MOVE, newly elected

Habitual minimal delegation put too much pressure on the Mayor s shoulders and a situation as
volatile as that of the offensive, sordid, anarchistic, law breaking actions of the MOVE cult presented
a situation unlike any other he had had to deal with. Without going into great detail, the series of
events leading to the ultimate disaster follows as this. Goode is elected Mayor in November of 1983
after MOVE had been in existence for over a decade. Residents affected by the individuals of the
MOVE cult cannot tolerate their indecency any longer. They call for immediate assistance from the
Mayor and city officials to step in and resolve the conflict. Two years pass with continued harassment
by MOVE and minimal action taken by the city. In fact, according to Nagel, Goode s attempt at aiding
the residents of the 6200 block of Cobbs Creek against the blaring bullhorns of vulgar ranting from the
MOVE group was to open a nearby recreation center so residents children could escape the
loudspeakers and Mayor Goode arranged psychological counseling to help the children cope with
chronic tension (Stillman, 2005, p. 239). For someone who has such zeal and respect for serving the
public as shown by his past actions, it is flabbergasting and appalling that this plan of non intervention
was acceptable or condoned. Left with no other option but public protest and further disgruntlement,
the neighborhood of the 6200

Dante Inferno Essay
Dante Alighieri was a major Italian poet born in Florence, Italy in 1265, around the Middle Ages.
Although he wrote other works, none were as notable as the Divine Comedy, the most illustrious work
of all medieval European literature. This epic dives into Dante s journey through hell, purgatory, and
paradise. The various religious and political figures, mythological references, as well as biblical
references, all play a role in the poet s comprehensive analysis of the turmoil Florence was facing in
the Middle Ages. In Dante s Inferno, the poet spawns his own form of punishment of the heinous
conduct that was spurning in his time period. Dante s inspiration for this epic stemmed from being
exiled from Florence. As he was exiled, he commented on the corruptness in Italy, which produced
Dante s allegory Inferno. Using a biographical lens, we can see the the influence of his life in this
work. In Dante s Inferno, Dante s background plays a prominent role in how he illustrates politics in
Hell. He incorporates the history of the Church during the 1300s.The poet illustrates the venal
behaviors of both religious figures, and the Catholic Church in its entirety. Dante s resentment towards
the church is primarily due to the corruption that the church displayed during his time period, his heart
overflows with the wrath he feels against those who corrupt the things of God (Dante 152). The

Chinese students in China are more inter dependant on the self construal variable which relates to the

think about how terrible the war was. One image that lingers in my mind is from the beginning when
the young recruit lost his helmet and when Paul tried to help him and put it back on his head the boy
hugged him. War is happening all around them and Paul shows deep sympathy towards the young boy.
The reader cannot help but feel for the young boy and picture him just wanting the comfort of another.
Another surreal image that lingers in my mind is when Paul is on leave and loses all feeling and power
when he sees his sister and home. He starts

Marine Animal Research Paper
No other marine animal in the ocean has come to be as feared, or perhaps as well known to man, as
the class of cartilaginous fish (Chondrichthyes) called, sharks; primarily, the species of shark known
as, the great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias). The overall body systems and behaviors of this
fish are how it has become so well adapted to its oceanic environment, that it is today considered
amongst the top predators of this planet. Alongside this incredible fish, is a more recent specimen to
the oceanic scene and a completely different class of animals, mammalians. The marine mammals
(cetaceans) in question are better known by their common name, dolphins; specifically, the bottle
nosed dolphins (Tursiops truncates), which are regarded as highly intelligent animals and are fairly
well along in the evolutionary chain; considering their short history. By looking at the behavioral
patterns and morphologies of these cetaceans, one can see how such a mixed group of animals such as,
the mammalians class have been able to adapt so well to oceanic environments, and even come to
thrive, in comparison to the cartilaginous fish that has ruled the waters for millions of years longer. ...

(Bright, 2002) The evolutionary trait of its camouflage like appearance benefits this fish as an element
of surprise in its mission to pursue its prey. The great white shark is mainly known for its great size,
hence the name, with females being larger than males, which are likely to be 17ft long with the
occasional giant that can grow to an enormous size of 21ft long weighing 7,328 lbs. The maximum
size of the fish is subject to debate, due to rough estimations and claims of larger sightings. (Bright,

Understanding GDPR Regulations What it Means for Cyber Security
On May 25, 2018 the European Union will begin enforcing the new General Data Protection
Regulations (GDPR) that will create one data protection standard throughout the EU. These
regulations were designed to create a unified standard for personal data privacy and to simplify the
enforcement of data privacy laws throughout all EU countries. What some organizations are surprised
to learn, is that these regulations go beyond the physical confines of the EU and apply to any
organization that collects or holds information on EU citizens. This means that companies throughout
the world need to understand and ensure compliance with GDRP guidelines if they ... Show more

Organizations in control of the data must provide a free electronic copy of the data.
Right to be forgotten: Covered data subjects have the right to have the organization in control of
his/her personal data erase and stop using that data if they withdraw consent. When this happens, the
organization s data controller must weigh the subjects rights vs. the public interest in the availability
of the data.
As you can see, GDPR creates a lot of new regulations surrounding data use. This is a short list of
examples, but GDPR also includes rules for data portability, legitimate use of data for direct
marketing, data profiling and more.
How does this impact an organization s cyber security approach?
While every company should always be considering the safety and security of information, GDPR is
looking to ensure that organizations are taking data security seriously and incorporating it into the
initial design of any new systems, as well as securing all existing systems. Many large companies
collecting data on EU citizens will be required to employ a Data Protection Officer to ensure
compliance and proper reporting.
Similar to US HIPAA requirements, GDPR calls for organizations to limit personal data access to only
those users that requires the specific data to perform his/her job. Organizations must also prove that
appropriate network safeguards are in place to protect the privacy of the data. With the

FEASIBILITY STUDY
Feasibility reports describe one or more design solutions to a specific problem and determine if the
proposed solution is practical and feasible. Preferably, more than one solution is offered, in which case
the report compares the various designs and determines which option is best. Design and feasibility
reports are essentially the same type of document, differing only in the amount of emphasis placed on
practical and economic viability of the design in comparison with other possible solutions. A design
report, often very similar to an internal proposal, focuses on describing one specific implementation. A
feasibility study, on the other hand, also emphasizes the investigation and comparison of alternative
solutions. Design reports and feasibility reports are crucial for decision making and product
development in almost any technical organization. They document an engineer s thinking through a
solution to a problem, a description of the solution, and the reasons why that solution should be
implemented. Managers need accurate and comprehensive feasibility and design reports to decide
where to commit scarce resources. In addition, an accurate and comprehensive design report helps in
developing other documents, such as formal proposals, specifications, and work plans.

The Role Of Zinc In The Gastrointestinal System
The aim of this article is to show the role of Zinc in the gastrointestinal system and its utility in
children with diarrhea. Diarrhea remains a serious health problem in the developing countries and
predominantly affects children under five years old. Diarrheal diseases are the second leading cause of
death for children and one of the main causes of malnutrition in children under five. However, they
are preventable and treatable diseases.
Malnourished refers to a pathological condition caused by lack of intake or absorption of nutrients
including proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, vitamins and/or minerals. Malnutrition causes various health
problems affecting the normal growth and development, can lead to mental and intellectual retardation

The Oral rehydration therapy is very useful to prevent dehydration risk and, therefore, to reduce
mortality rates from diarrheal disease. On the other hand, Zinc supplementation has shown
effectiveness to diminish severity and duration related to the increase of morbidity and malnutrition in
children under 5 years old. So, Zinc supplementation is an inexpensive and secure adjunctive therapy.
Besides, it might avoid treatment of diarrhea with unnecessary antibiotics and other drugs. Zinc
sulphate, Zinc acetate or Zinc gluconate are the commonly used at 20 mg per day for 10 14 days or 10
mg per day for infants under six months old. Presentation: tablets of 10 or 20 milligrams or syrup 10

Essay On Linear Regression
From Table 8 and Table 3, we were quickly able to identify that the regression assumptions were not
going to be satisfied and that our dependent variable needed transforming. Looking at the plot in
figure 8, we could see that the residuals of the predictions were not following a straight line. This
indicated that linear regression was not suitable for the data. This led us to transforming the worldwide
box office revenue variable as shown in Table 9. Figures 4 7 showed that the transformed variable
made a huge difference. The linear regression assumptions were satisfied and the residual plots
indicated the residuals followed a linear pattern. Considering Tables 10 13, we were able to find the
best variables for the regression model at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accuracies of around 80% 81% were obtained and this showed that the linear regression model was
strong. It is clear that transforming the dependent variable has a key role in why the linear regression
prediction accuracies are quite high. Considering that only pre release data was used to predict the
worldwide box office revenue and the best model had three independent variables, it is a very high
accuracy and shows how effective linear regression can be. Table 16 and 17 displays the results of the
SVM prediction models. The same three variables that were used to predict the worldwide box office
revenue was used again in the SVM algorithm. The results obtained from the models were slightly
better than the linear regression models. SVM is more advanced then linear regression so it is not
unexpected that SVM has given us a higher accuracy. The SVM models did not exceed the accuracy
of the regression by much. The accuracies of the SVM models ranged from 81% 83%. Nevertheless
the accuracies of the models predicting the worldwide box office revenues are impressive and shows
movie studios how effective pre release data is. From Table 18, we have a good idea as to how
Random Forest performs when predicting the success of movies. The accuracies of the various
regression models indicate that the accuracies range form 82 85.71%. As there are 2 categories of

Fire Containment Is A Passive Protection Method
There are two main types of fire protection: active and passive. The differences between the two are
that active fire protection requires outside help in the form of mechanical or electrical power for the
device to work. A passive system works with no outside help at all. Fire containment is a passive
protection method. There are three types of passive devices: limiting the rate of fire growth, fire
containment and then emergency egress. Fire containment is accomplished by limiting a fully
involved fire to the room or area that it is located. This is done through continuous researching and
testing. Fire containment is most successful when complete testing has been done on the many
components of the building s construction and materials. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tests can be conducted under non load bearing, load bearing, unrestrained, and restrained conditions.
Non load bearing tests are conducted to determine when the fire will spread to the neighboring
compartment. This happens when the heat transfer is high enough to ignite items in the non fire room.
This test can also result in the wall becoming too hot and cracking, creating a path for the fire to
travel. The test is measured by the time it takes for cotton waste on the unexposed side to ignite.
Unlike the non load bearing test, the load bearing test is conducted to see how long the structure will
withstand before is collapses. A collapse not only creates a path for the fire to travel, but it also affects
the safety of anyone that would be inside. The test is conducted while the assembly being tested is
under a weighted load, and the test is concluded when the assembly begins to collapse. This test is
mainly used for wood. Steel and concrete are tested without weight because they will arch when they
near breaking point. When testing steel framed floors, ceilings, and roof assemblies, they are tested
under both restrained and unrestrained conditions. The steel frame is made to resist the forces of
thermal expansion on the industrial steel. It is important to test under restrained conditions, and this
test is required for building parts that make up a structure capable of resisting thermal expansion
through the wide range of

How Technology Can Improve Their Mental Cognition
Franky Nassivera
In a time, where scientists are able to create both usable limbs and organs with the use of a 3d printer;
it comes as no surprise that people would also turn to technology to improve their mental cognition as
well. Companies like Lumosity, CogniFit, and CogMed are constantly advertising for their products
ability to boost a person s intelligence. This however may not be the case. In one of Lumosity s most
recent advertising campaigns, it states that No matter why you want a better brain, lumosity.com can
help. It s like a personal trainer for your brain. Improving your performance with the science of
neuroplasticity, but in a way that just feels like games. Start training with lumosity.com right now, and
discover what your brain can do. (4) Statements like this make Lumosity seem almost like a miracle
drug. This thought is enhanced when before this statement, actors are stating why they would want to
use the product. With quotes like I did it to be quicker. , To stay sharp. , and To remember people s
names. (4) it allows the viewer to associate those results with Lumosity without actually seeing any
evidence. With over 50 million members and over 1.1 billion games played, Lumosity has created an
empire over the brain game industry: growing its user base about 200% year over year from 80,000
members in October 2007. (5) With all of these new users, there should be plenty of information to
support the claim that these games improve

Parsifal Richard Wagner Comparison
Richard Wagner was a German composer who revolutionized the opera genre of music. He composed
over thirteen different operas throughout his life, but some of his librettos wouldn t receive the credit
they deserve until long after his death. By composing his works with the unique style of writing the
music as well as the libretto, he was arguably ahead of his time while setting a new standard for future
composers to come. The similarities and differences between the first and last operas he composed
help to demonstrate the evolution of Wagner s music over time, while also showing what has remained
constant during his career. In comparing and contrasting Die Feen, one of his first works, with
Parsifal, one could hope to gain a better understanding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should be pointed out that Wagner spent much more time composing his final opera than he did on
his first. Wagner worked on Parsifal on and off for more than thirty years, while he barely spent a
fraction of that amount of time composing his first opera (Rovi). He finished Die Feen when he was
only twenty years old, clearly showing that he did not put as much time into trying to perfect his work.
His final opera, Parsifal, is often referred to as one of his best compositions, reflecting the amount of
time and effort he put into working on it before deeming it complete. It conveys that Wagner became
somewhat of a perfectionist later on in his career, as his mature works took longer to finish than those
he had composed when he was younger. Something else that should be noted, is that Parsifal is much
longer than Die Feen. Parsifal has thirty nine movements, while Die Feen only has twenty. This is
most likely due to the fact that Wagner took a longer amount of time before he finally came around to
completing Parsifal. Wagner introduced different arrangements in Parsifal that were unprecedented in
his previous works, such as the specific composition complementing the acoustics that are in his
Bayreuth theater. The complexity of his last opera is much greater than most of those that came before
it. Die Feen was his introductory piece that would serve as a stepping stone to where his career would
finally come to an end. Despite both operas, having a source of inspiration before their composition,
the content of these two particular operas shows no relation. Die Feen was inspired by a fantasy tale
that had to do with romance, while Parsifal was inspired by the epic poem that centered more around
religion. Finally, the uniquity of his last opera is made apparent by the use of the contrabassoon.
Wagner had implemented the contrabassoon one

visual processing in orthography and reading disabilities and to link findings on the cognitive
underpinnings of learning to results from the emerging body of brain research. They also insist that the
Test of Dyslexia (TOD) be refined to include a Word Memory subtest and modify or completely do

ascertain whether training in phonological awareness skills with older children or students at
secondary schools would be as beneficial as with younger students. They believe that a greater
consistency in literacy assessments across research studies will further understand of reading
difficulties. Through the extensive literature review, researchers in both studies have concluded that no
one assessment tool is reliable enough to measure reading complications. These studies have found
that multiple assessment tools must be used to evaluate students reading

Andy Wirth Case
Andy Wirth Speaks to Madeleine Brand of KCRW on the Recent Drought Phenomenon Andy Wirth
recently spoke to Madeleine Brand of the California based KCRW about the effects of drought on
California ski resorts. Andy is a prominent personality in the resort industry; he is currently the
President and CEO of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings. In the interview held on July 30, 2015, Madeleine
began by pointing that drought had forced Californians to cut back on water usage by 27% compared
to 2 years ago and placed scarcity of water as the number one concern in the minds of many in the
state. Andy Wirth told Madeleine that his resorts remained profitable and resilient in spite of 20% drop
in visitor numbers due to the devastating effects of what Stanford meteorologist call the ridiculously
resilient ridge . The occurrence, according to Andy prevented the pressure system from forming over
the mountains, causing a reduction in the amount of precipitation that brings snow. Andy also affirmed
that the mountain resorts under his watch were more than capable of withstanding bad weather
because some 4000 acres of skiing surface out of the possible 6,000 acres were still in play. Some of
the strategies Andy has proposed to keep the business viable include using modern techniques to
manage snow and making more snow using science. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Madeleine also asked Andy about the future of his resort business and Andy promptly answered by
affirming that his businesses have embraced the Stanford meteorological findings about the increase
volatility of weather. In the final analysis, Andy vouches for an adjusted mountain resort and hotel

  • 2. Sneak Analysis 3 Ways to Sneak in More Self Care Making space to take care of yourself and prioritise your needs is one of the biggest challenges busy, high achieving women face. When life gets overpowering and levels of stress rise, it s so tantalizing to clear out your calendar by taking off the things which you do for yourself. On the surface, it can seem like the easiest, swiftest, lowest conflict path to making more time, energy, and getting the critical stuff dealt with. The difficulty is that it isn t. The truth is, when I pay myself first when I put my workout at the top of the list, when I take the time at the start of my week to plan my meals or plan some good down time in my week? I not only feel better all week, I perform better. I am more targeted and creative. I feel more alive and I have more to give. My clients notice this as well. When they drop the assumption that they have no time for themselves and start putting their self care first, they really get more done. 3. Make self care an appointment and make it a standing date. Mull it over. If something is tricky to do, why make yourself reinvent the wheel and start anew with doing it every time? When you can, it is often best to make self care a ritual. A client who was continually traveling for her company fought with emotional overeating when she was on the road. She struggled with the easy way to take care of herself and make great food and portion decisions in each new hotel and new town she visited. One simple step we took to reduce her stress and to help her take control of emotional eating was to design rituals that helped ground her and she could use to relax, plan her eating decisions, and limit stress eating. The key was to systematize things so she had a ritual she was used to completing at set times of the day and that would kick in even if she is away from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Poverty In Haiti Essay During the 18th century, France possessed the colony known to them as Saint Domingue, an island in the Caribbean Sea. Possessing valuable resources and optimal conditions for growing expensive crops such as sugar, France dedicated much of their money into this little island, allowing Saint Domingue to become the most wealthy colony in this time period. However, the Haitian slaves revolted against the French colonial rulers, resulting in the only completely successful slave rebellion in history. However, the cost of the war, natural disasters, and a French independence tax very soon crippled the former colony, leading to an almost instantaneous decline in the country s wealth and prosperity. However, the arguments that they might bring up happen to avoid some of the details that in actuality create a need for further government involvement, not the same amount. According to the World Bank, poverty rates did indeed drop about 7%, and schools gained more students than ever before. ( Extreme poverty drops ). While the article does indeed highlight the decrease in extreme poverty and increase in school enrollment, the rest of the paragraph shows just how the country has a long way to go. To start, the 7% decrease in poverty was over the span of 13 years. Even if the amount of time was not present, those who climbed out of poverty accounts for about 200,000 people, in a country that houses over 10 million. According to another article by the National Public Radio, the rates of death after natural disasters like Hurricane Matthew decreased, and the health of the survivors was better than after other storms (Beaubien). Mass death is never a good thing, and even though less of it is almost always a good thing, the amount of those who died after Hurricane Matthew is still tragic and unacceptable. He also explains that he was able to meet diverse people, and learn about their ways of life. He realized that everyone had different backgrounds, but they were able to come together through theatre (Wallen). Theatre can also help to expand people s world. Wallen also states, Some dramatic scenes require you to tap into passionate emotions like anger, despair, hatred, love, shame, and yearning. While this is far from easy for any beginning actor, you ll become more comfortable tapping into your full emotional range as time goes on (Wallen). This describes how acting forces individuals to step out of their comfort zones, and expand their emotions and skills. The last point shows how acting can help individuals to understand people s minds. When an individual views another actor on stage, it is easy to learn more about the performer. For example, Wallen explains that It helps us understand how our minds and the minds of others work. It helps us to see how the environments in which we live affect who we are and who we will become (Wallen). • 8. Backyard Blues Poem Analysis In Natasha Trethewey s poetry collection Native Guard, the reader is exposed to the story of Trethewey s growing up in the southern United States and the tragedy which she encountered during her younger years, in addition to her experiences with prejudice and to issues surrounding prejudice within the society she is living in. Throughout this work, Trethewey often refers to graves and provides compelling imagery regarding the burial of the dead. Within Trethewey s work, the recurring imagery surrounding graves evolves from the graves simply serving as a personal reminder of the past, to a statement on the collective memory of society and comments on how Trethewey is troubled with what society has forgotten as it signifies a willingness to overlook the dehumanization of a large group of people. The idea of graves representing memory is introduced in Part I of the collection within the poem Graveyard Blues . The final stanza of the poem says, I wander now among the names of the dead: My mother s name, stone pillow for my head (8). First, while the word grave does not appear within this line, it is heavily implied by the speaker using her mother s name as a stone pillow. The reader can deduce that this line is referring to a gravestone as when one thinks of a gravestone they usually picture an upright slab of rock with the name of the deceased engraved within it, and both of these elements are emphasized within this line. ASD, also known as autism, is a brain disorder that interferes with a person s behavior and/or interactions with others. The word autism, which has been in use for about 100 years, comes from the Greek word autos, meaning self. The term describes conditions in which a person is removed from social interaction hence, an isolated self (WedMD). The word Autism was first used in 1908 to describe schizophrenia, a brain disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally, people who were self absorbed or cocky. In 1943, Dr. Leo Kenner was the first to used Autism for kids who were highly intelligent but did not want to interact with others, he called this early infantile autism. In 1950, Bruno Bettelhiem, a child development specialist, viewed autism was being caused by emotionally cold and distanced mothers. This became known as the Refrigerator Mother Theory . The Refrigerator Mother Theory is when a mother does not interact, or play, with the child at all, causing the child to be fridged ( David E. Simpson, J.J. Hanley, and Gordon Quinn in the film History of Autism Blame ). In 1987, The DSM ( Dianostic and Statistical Manual of Matal Disorders) replaced infantile autism with autism disorder . Around this time, researchers used to think the cause of autism was due to bad parenting. Not only that, the federal government made autism a special education category. This allowed public schools to start knowing children with autism and offer them special services. Some children would be sent to foster care to see if they would recover back then, By this time, many researchers were convinced that the basic reasons were to be found in neurological disturbances, sometimes combined with hereditary illnesses like tuberous sclerosis, metabolic disturbances like PKU or chromosomal aberrations such as fragile X chromosome (Certec). In 1994, the National Alliance for Autism Research and Cure Autism Now raised awareness about ASD. Later on that year, researchers began to believe that the cause of autism was due to mercury in vaccines. • 11. Activity-based costing in restaurants Activity based costing in restaurants 1. Introduction Interest in cost and management accounting practices in the restaurant industry is rising (Raab et al., 2009; Annaraud et al., 2008). Pavesic (1985) has initiated research in pricing and cost accounting for restaurants, introducing the concept of profit factor (PF) in menu engineering (ME). Prior studies, such as the one presented in Chan and Au (1998) investigate the implications of not incorporating overhead costs in menu item profitability analyses in restaurants in Hong Kong. Since then, a number of researchers have examined the application of contemporary cost and management accounting techniques, and particularly activity based costing (ABC) in a restaurant environment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To this end Kaplan and Cooper (1998) suggest that service companies are ideal candidates for ABC. One reason for this is that in the services industry a great percentage of total cost is labour cost and processes are highly variant (Kostakis et al., 2008). Studies have shown the possible use and potential benefits of ABC in the hotel industry (Kostakis et al., 2011; Berts and Kock, 1995; Noone and Griffin, 1999). New techniques assisting large scale ABC implementation have also been developed in recent years (Kaplan and Anderson, 2004). The restaurant industry is facing great challenges today, mainly due to the highly competitive environment and the diverse needs of the customers. Restaurants have to achieve a balance between serving these needs, and pricing their menu items to achieve adequate profitability levels (Raab et al., 2009).Traditional costing systemsand simplistic pricing approaches were very popular within the restaurant industry. Overhead cost and operating expenses were usually excluded and prices were a function of food cost, as well as customer demand, historical prices and other factors. This method has the evident disadvantage of leading to misleading information about individual menu items. Research ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on The Robber Bridegroom by Eudora Welty The Robber Bridegroom by Eudora Welty Eudora Welty s first novel, The Robber Bridegroom, is a combination of fantasy and reality while exploring the duality of human nature, time, and the word man lives in. The union of legend, Mississippi history and Grimms fairy tales create an adult dream world. Every character in the story has little insight to themselves and how they relate to the world around them. The antics of Mike Fink, the Harps, the bandits, and the Indians closely relate to Mississippi folklore. The blending of actual history and pure fantasy create a much richer form of entertainment. All of these acts are overpowered, however, by the humor of the characters. The three main characters represent clear opposites in their own characters. Rosamond is beautiful and pure but could not tell the truth to save her life. Clement is a planter who is restless and loves to travel. Jamie is a criminal as well as a bridegroom. Composers of this time shaped or molded a musical language to depict the affections. Music is written to fit the needs of society in our always changing world. Church music during this time was very elaborate and music was usually only heard in the churches and if you were wealth enough during that time you could go hear music in public opera houses. This piece is based upon the scriptural text from the King James Bible it was first performed in Dublin in 1742; Handel makes use of the renaissance technique of word painting and multi part polyphony. It uses fascinating word painting and is repeated throughout the piece. This piece comes from the oratorio called Messiah; it is the third piece of Messiah. It is the combination of homophony and polyphony with the addition of two trumpets. There are also two oboes, two violins, a viola, and a basso continuo. The use of basso continuo (instrumental accompaniment) requires a chordal instrument and a thoroughbass. When we put Purcells Didos lament next to Handels Messiah in order to compare and contrast them you will notice some interesting things; to start they are both a different genre since one was created during the Baroque time period and the other in the classical, obviously they are both composed by a different person, Didos lament is an opera aria whereas Ev ry valley is an oratorio aria. Operas purpose is secular entertainment which is usually performed in a theater and is fully dramatic with staging and costumes. Oratorios purpose is sacred entertainment which is also performed in a theater but is a concert type. However, by the year of 2007 situation at plant started getting worse which led to the conclusion that famous Scatlon plan was not effective anymore. First of all, occurred distrust that bonuses are not calculated in truthful way. Employees started doubting company s complex nature of the calculation itself while appointing amounts of bonuses. Secondly, there was a question of fairness when some employees thought that they should receive more bonuses as they are putting more efforts and work than other ones. As a consequence such moods at workplace led to the primary stage when Scatlon plan had not been adopted yet: employees became passive, work became inefficient and employers started layoffs. Therefore, it leads to the conclusion that in this case the main issue is appropriate employees motivation and satisfying job conditions, which could be achieved by choosing right incentives plan. However, sticking to the same incentives plan also might not be a good idea because people usually get used to such things very easily. Well I didn t get it for christmas so when I went back into Sephora I Just knew that I would have to get my hands on it. I love this palette! The colors that are in it are beautiful! Introduction When sovereign states fail to comply with international law (IL), it can be stated bluntly that supranational legal organizations are systematically incapable of responding with coercive or punitive measures. If the efficacy of IL is unabashedly defined in strict terms of coercive and punitive power, it is unsurprising that it falls short as an effective regulatory mechanism of state conduct. Instead, a better measure of effectiveness regarding international law is one that understands compliance of IL as a norm adoption platform primarily directed at nation states. Effectiveness of IL as a regulator of state conduct can be understood as the conformity of behavior to rules, rather than the ultimate outcome of such conformity. Institutional platforms, representing universally accepted social norms, have the power to influence state behavior and legal order. International law can be an effective regulatory mechanism for state conduct if a norm cycle activates in which international norms trickle down into domestic structures and a trajectory towards national policy outcomes transpires. International law can be immensely powerful in influencing the domestic political arena; it is therefore conceivable that international law could serve as a regulatory mechanism within state conduct given national structures exhibit willingness and agreement with international norms. Operant Conditioning And Social Learning When I was in my psychology class in high school, we spent a month talking about classical conditioning and we did many interesting experiments involving it. We also touched on operant conditioning and social learning, so I have some background knowledge in this subject. Classical and operant conditioning, along with social learning, are all ways to teach animals or humans how to behave. These theories developed because psychologists wanted to understand why people behave the way they do and many famous experiments have been conducted to answer this question. It was very interesting to learn more about these theories and how they work, and relating them to my own personal experiences. Classical conditioning is when a person or animal associates two stimuli and creates a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dogs would start to salivate just by hearing the bell ringing, which normally would not produce this response. The first part of the process involves an unconditioned response, like blinking or salivating. The next part needed for classical conditioning is an unconditioned stimulus. The unconditioned stimulus is one that automatically produces the unconditioned response, such as the smell of food triggering salivation. During conditioning, the neutral stimulus, like the bell in Pavlov s case, is repeatedly paired with the unconditioned stimulus, or the meat powder. After a while, the neutral stimulus becomes the conditioned stimulus. The conditioned stimulus then produces a conditioned response, since the subject of the experiment has associated the conditioned stimulus with the unconditioned response. Many interesting experiments have been conducted using classical conditioning. Another scientist that preformed an experiment with classical conditioning is John B. Watson. Watson used classical conditioned to make a young boy fear white fluffy objects. He scared the child by making loud noises every time the child was presented a white rat. ... • 19. The Death Of Judge Rusty Sabich Innocent recounts a period, from 2008 2009, in the life of Judge Rusty Sabich. It is divided into three main sections (pre trial, trial, and post trial) and narrated from several points of view, such as Rusty Sabich, a judge in Kindle County; Nat Sabich, a law school graduate and the son of Rusty; Tommy Molto, a Kindle County prosecuting attorney; and Anna Vostic, a law clerk and Rusty s mistress. However, the overarching story narrative focuses on the death of Barbara Sabich and the trial of Rusty, her husband, for her murder. The murder trial in Innocent occurs twenty years after Rusty was tried for the murder of Carolyn Polhemus. Polhemus was an attorney, who was strangled in her apartment. Also, she was Rusty s mistress. At trial, Rusty was acquitted for Polhemus s murder and the case was never solved. Another aspect of the book is the appeal of John Harnason, a convicted poisoner, who Rusty has extrajudicial involvement with. Innocent is a standalone sequel to Scott Turow s book Presumed Innocent, which recounts the Polhemus trial in detail. Innocent opens with the perspective of Nat Sabich and the following lines: A man is sitting on a bed. He is my father. The body of a woman is beneath the covers. She was my mother (1). Lord Of The Flies Personality Analysis Essay LOFT Personality Analysis Essay All our personalities compare to a character from Lord of the Flies, and I found myself to be an ENFP or an idealist; someone most comparable to Simon. An ENFP or an idealist personality displays characteristics of being extroverted, intuitive, feeling and perceiving which. Furthermore, passionately concerned with positive improvement, being kind, warm, sympathetic, distracted and motivated were all trait described in the personality test for the ENFP. Due to our selflessness, how introverted and extroverted we are, and how we can think both logically and emotionally, makes Simon and I most similar. The idealist is often trying to help others, as well as the world, enhancing it in any way they can, as stated by the personality test. Simon displays this need to help others through many of his actions within the book, as Simon thought this...the beast was harmless and horrible; and the news must reach the others as soon as possible. He started down the mountain and his legs give beneath him (Lowry 147). In this passage, Simon is hurt yet he wants to help resume order amongst the boys, by eliminating the fear that controls them, which show he has a vision for a better world. Then, amid the roar of bees in the afternoon sunlight, Simon found for them the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless, outstretched hands (Lowry 56). Britain, who had control over Ireland at this time, did very little to help the now starving and poor Irish. As a result of English disregard towards the Irish during the Potato Famine of 1845, the already fragile relationship between Ireland and England worsened. Many of the Irish that didn t die from these diseases did die from starvation. Seeing as the potato was main source of nutrition for many Irish people, many became malnourished. Although he wrote other works, none were as notable as the Divine Comedy, the most illustrious work of all medieval European literature. This epic dives into Dante s journey through hell, purgatory, and paradise. The various religious and political figures, mythological references, as well as biblical references, all play a role in the poet s comprehensive analysis of the turmoil Florence was facing in the Middle Ages. In Dante s Inferno, the poet spawns his own form of punishment of the heinous conduct that was spurning in his time period. Dante s inspiration for this epic stemmed from being exiled from Florence. As he was exiled, he commented on the corruptness in Italy, which produced Dante s allegory Inferno. Using a biographical lens, we can see the the influence of his life in this work. In Dante s Inferno, Dante s background plays a prominent role in how he illustrates politics in Hell. He incorporates the history of the Church during the 1300s.The poet illustrates the venal behaviors of both religious figures, and the Catholic Church in its entirety. Dante s resentment towards the church is primarily due to the corruption that the church displayed during his time period, his heart overflows with the wrath he feels against those who corrupt the things of God (Dante 152). Organizations in control of the data must provide a free electronic copy of the data. Right to be forgotten: Covered data subjects have the right to have the organization in control of his/her personal data erase and stop using that data if they withdraw consent. When this happens, the organization s data controller must weigh the subjects rights vs. the public interest in the availability of the data. As you can see, GDPR creates a lot of new regulations surrounding data use. This is a short list of examples, but GDPR also includes rules for data portability, legitimate use of data for direct marketing, data profiling and more. How does this impact an organization s cyber security approach? While every company should always be considering the safety and security of information, GDPR is looking to ensure that organizations are taking data security seriously and incorporating it into the initial design of any new systems, as well as securing all existing systems. Many large companies collecting data on EU citizens will be required to employ a Data Protection Officer to ensure compliance and proper reporting. Similar to US HIPAA requirements, GDPR calls for organizations to limit personal data access to only those users that requires the specific data to perform his/her job. Organizations must also prove that appropriate network safeguards are in place to protect the privacy of the data. With the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Looking at the plot in figure 8, we could see that the residuals of the predictions were not following a straight line. This indicated that linear regression was not suitable for the data. This led us to transforming the worldwide box office revenue variable as shown in Table 9. Figures 4 7 showed that the transformed variable made a huge difference. The linear regression assumptions were satisfied and the residual plots indicated the residuals followed a linear pattern. Accuracies of around 80% 81% were obtained and this showed that the linear regression model was strong. It is clear that transforming the dependent variable has a key role in why the linear regression prediction accuracies are quite high. Considering that only pre release data was used to predict the worldwide box office revenue and the best model had three independent variables, it is a very high accuracy and shows how effective linear regression can be. Table 16 and 17 displays the results of the SVM prediction models. The same three variables that were used to predict the worldwide box office revenue was used again in the SVM algorithm. The results obtained from the models were slightly better than the linear regression models. SVM is more advanced then linear regression so it is not unexpected that SVM has given us a higher accuracy. The SVM models did not exceed the accuracy of the regression by much. The accuracies of the SVM models ranged from 81% 83%. • 46. Fire Containment Is A Passive Protection Method There are two main types of fire protection: active and passive. The differences between the two are that active fire protection requires outside help in the form of mechanical or electrical power for the device to work. A passive system works with no outside help at all. Fire containment is a passive protection method. There are three types of passive devices: limiting the rate of fire growth, fire containment and then emergency egress. Fire containment is accomplished by limiting a fully involved fire to the room or area that it is located. This is done through continuous researching and testing. Tests can be conducted under non load bearing, load bearing, unrestrained, and restrained conditions. Non load bearing tests are conducted to determine when the fire will spread to the neighboring compartment. This happens when the heat transfer is high enough to ignite items in the non fire room. This test can also result in the wall becoming too hot and cracking, creating a path for the fire to travel. The test is measured by the time it takes for cotton waste on the unexposed side to ignite. Unlike the non load bearing test, the load bearing test is conducted to see how long the structure will withstand before is collapses. A collapse not only creates a path for the fire to travel, but it also affects the safety of anyone that would be inside. The test is conducted while the assembly being tested is under a weighted load, and the test is concluded when the assembly begins to collapse. This test is mainly used for wood. Steel and concrete are tested without weight because they will arch when they near breaking point. When testing steel framed floors, ceilings, and roof assemblies, they are tested under both restrained and unrestrained conditions. He composed over thirteen different operas throughout his life, but some of his librettos wouldn t receive the credit they deserve until long after his death. By composing his works with the unique style of writing the music as well as the libretto, he was arguably ahead of his time while setting a new standard for future composers to come. The similarities and differences between the first and last operas he composed help to demonstrate the evolution of Wagner s music over time, while also showing what has remained constant during his career. It should be pointed out that Wagner spent much more time composing his final opera than he did on his first. Wagner worked on Parsifal on and off for more than thirty years, while he barely spent a fraction of that amount of time composing his first opera (Rovi). He finished Die Feen when he was only twenty years old, clearly showing that he did not put as much time into trying to perfect his work. His final opera, Parsifal, is often referred to as one of his best compositions, reflecting the amount of time and effort he put into working on it before deeming it complete. It conveys that Wagner became somewhat of a perfectionist later on in his career, as his mature works took longer to finish than those he had composed when he was younger. Something else that should be noted, is that Parsifal is much longer than Die Feen. Parsifal has thirty nine movements, while Die Feen only has twenty. This is most likely due to the fact that Wagner took a longer amount of time before he finally came around to completing Parsifal. Wagner introduced different arrangements in Parsifal that were unprecedented in his previous works, such as the specific composition complementing the acoustics that are in his Bayreuth theater. The complexity of his last opera is much greater than most of those that came before it. Die Feen was his introductory piece that would serve as a stepping stone to where his career would finally come to an end. Despite both operas, having a source of inspiration before their composition, the content of these two particular operas shows no relation. Die Feen was inspired by a fantasy tale that had to do with romance, while Parsifal was inspired by the epic poem that centered more around religion.
