Reality Tv Paper
Assignment 1: Reality television has become increasingly more popular and appears to be
taking over the entertainment business. Psychologist Lawrence Rubin seems to think it all
goes back to Aristotle, The notion of being drawn to drama and tragedy (Kinon, 2009). The
viewer receives a false sense of real life and disconnects from their own real life by diving into
someone else s. The effects these television shows have on society as a whole can be positive or
negative depending on the message the show depicts. Shows such as Jersey Shore , 16 and
Pregnant , and Dr. 90210 are a huge success to MTV but could be considered detrimental to society
by painting distorted pictures of reality in the viewer s mind. Shows including... Show more content

Amber s story is showing how difficult it is being a teen mom, but at the same time she is
sending a message that its okay to be abusive with words and actions. Even though some teen
moms are great parents and love their children to death, how do the teens nowadays view that
as? Teens that are lonely, not social or are picked on in school can see how much happiness a
child can bring to those reality stars, and they can ask themselves why not get pregnant and try
to enjoy that for themselves. That s not a reason to have a child and its not capitalized enough
on the show. At the end of each season MTV hosts a Teen Mom After Show to recap on seasons
highlights as well as clips that weren t shown. Most teen moms are questioned about their
experience and when asked if they are still sexually active most of them all answer yes but with
protection or contraception. According to the net doctor, if a condom is used correctly, it is about
98% effective. (Dr. David Devlin). However most teens don t have enough knowledge about
protection so we cannot assume they do said David S. Rosen, M.D. Contraception like birth
control include pills, shots, patches, and implants. Without the proper access to these, people are at
risk for pregnancy and STD s. Although MTV does show some of the struggles and hardships of
being 16 and pregnant, some argue that the opposite affects that MTV originally intended for the
series is happening. MTV

The Is An Old Proverb
Where there is a will, there is a way Where there is a will, there is a way is an old proverb which
almost everyone knows, but not everyone understand it very well. This proverb means that if
you are really resolved to do something, no matter how difficult it might be, never give up, and
you will find a way to do it at last. In our life, many people are under too much pressure, just like
a piece of heavy rock on the shoulder. So we need to calm down and think about our future to
find out a way to release stress. We may wonder if there is no hope for us to become successful.
And we know that sighing is not useful, and the only way is that we must find a goalor dream in our
lives. The reason why people feel confused and futureless is that they do not have clear
aspirations, and they do not know what they live for. Without goals, they will only stay in the
same place and never go ahead. Without ambitions, they will become lazy and resign themselves
to fate. If we do not want opportunities to slip away, we need to go out of the whirlpool of
confusion by setting up ideals and ambitions. A great person not only has a clear goal, but also
has a firm resolution and an inflexible spirit. Ninety percent of the failures that occur are due to the
fact that there is no strong will. On many occasions, people probably say much more than the truth
about difficulties, making the objective impossible to reach. In fact, if a person has the will to
succeed, then the size of

Criminology And Sociology And Criminology
Where the Two Meet
Criminology is where criminal justice and Sociology meet and come together. Sociology is a social
science where the study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society happen.
Criminology is also a social science that studies crime and criminal behavior. Sociologists, by
studying society and relationships, are able to determine the thoughts and actions of individuals or
criminals. Each science can relate to other sciences and Criminology relates to Psychology,
Sociology and more. Sociology and Criminology both contribute to society. Every day were faced
with new and bigger issues and as Sociologists, it is up to them to understand why and figure out
the issues at hand and how to deal with them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another social issue that is a problem with in society today would be opinions. People are
allowed to have a difference of opinion. We are all able to believe different and not think the
same and still live in harmony. There needs to be an understanding and respect in difference of
opinions. On the other hand, Criminology is about the crime and criminals in society. It involves
law enforcement and the criminal justice system. Criminal justice and Criminology are related
fields, but are not the same things. Criminal justice focuses more on upholding social control and
Criminology is the study of the crimes and criminals. Whereas, both are just as important.
Criminology, with the help of other social sciences, go deep within the criminal and the crime to
get to the bottom of what they are thinking, what has made them do it, why they did it, what is
next, and also how to stop it and how to prevent it from happening again. Criminology also deals
with issues in the field. Some of these issues involving Criminology might be, capital punishment,
what is illegal and what is not, sentencing, maintaining social order, is Criminology gender blind,
who makes criminal law, does crime pay, if so what and to who and the list continues. As you
begin researching and asking yourself these questions, you become aware of all the

The Controversy Of Bribery
A bribe is to persuade someone to act in one s favor, typically illegally or dishonestly, by a gift of
money or other inducements. Many companies have been accused of bribery within their
organization. Some of America s most well known companies have been accused of this crime.
Famous brands we all know such as Johnson Johnson, Hewlett Packard, Tyson Foods, Ralph
Lauren, Wal Mart and many more have all allegedly been responsible for giving money or other
benefits in exchange for favors that will bend the law. Today, corruption costs the global economy
some $2.6 trillion every year, or 5 percent of global GDP , according to the World Economic
Forum. In the United States, stricter enforcement has increased and more companies have been
caught;... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way for a company to avoid bribery within the company is to assess all the risks that have to
do with bribery. Businesses must educate the employees about the risks involved. In most
countries, bribery or acts of corruption are punishable by law which can bring a bad name to the
company and later lead to trust issues. This can severely hinder the profitability of a business. A
company that has been found guilty of bribes can lose consumer confidence; which results in the
loss of profit. Companies must be aware of the differences and rules of conducting business
within other countries and avoid any malpractices (Prevent Bribery). Another way to avoid
bribery is there must be a zero tolerance policy towards bribery within the entire company. This
can be ensured by top management explaining that bribery can lead to severe consequences which
can involve imprisonment, heavy fines, and termination. Additionally, a company must thoroughly
run a background check of the client s, vendors, and partners; as well as their credibility in the
marketplace. Any cases of past history involving instances of bribery or corruption should serve as
a red flag or warning to a

Comparison Of Apology And Phaedo By Plato
Philosophy, according to Oxford Dictionary, is the study of the general and fundamental nature of
reality and language. Therefore, philosophy is an understanding of ourselves and the world around
us, it is the knowledge one is willing to attain simply for the sake of knowing and being aware.
Literally meaning love of wisdom , philosophy is very significant in our lives as it encourages one
to better understand themselves through questioning and look past what one has been told in order
to attain greater knowledge. This further leads one to be humble, honest and think critically.
Overall, philosophy enables one to grow and develop as a person. This is conveyed to us by Plato s
Apology and Phaedo where we are told the importance of philosophy ... Show more content on

Studying the works of Plato and the views of Socrates has made me aware of a higher purpose
which may exist as the soul may truly be immortal. This has allowed me to expand my view and
look into possibilities which cause me to question myself and be confident in my reasoning which
in turn allows me to effectively communicate my thoughts as I feel confident In the conclusion I
reach by reasoning. Thus, philosophy is significant for us today as it allows one to not only think,
but effectively communicate with others. We see Socrates himself having a great amount of
control over his communication, he easily conveys his views by use of simple language simply
due to philosophy and the belief he has in his understanding. It is his confidence which guides him

Ray Bradbury Sameness
All Summer in a Day written by Ray Bradbury is a science fiction short story. Margot is from
Earth, living on Venus. Margot and her classmates are excited to see the sun. All of Margot s
classmates but they lock her in a closet and go enjoy the sun while she islocked in the closet. All
Summer in a Day teaches readers that sameness is bad because there is no change and no
experimenting with the world. One way that sameness has a negative impact on the people is the
weather. For example, It had been raining for seven years; thousands upon thousands of days
compounded and filled from one end to the other with rain (Bradbury). On Venus they are not
accustomed to change they only experience rain. They have not seen the sun for seven years.
They only experience rain everyday the same thing one after another. This is a good example of
sameness because they only experience rain. It is important to notice that all day everyday it is
constantly raining. The purpose of these words is to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This presents how separate Margot is and how her classmates recognize that and decide to keep
away. This is bad because we are all different and our differences need to be recognized. I chose
this quote because it empathises how much the children recognize Margot s difference and think
it is a bad thing. Finally, a fourth example of sameness and separation is, They surged about her,
caught her up and bore her, protesting, and then pleading, and then crying, back into a tunnel, a
room, a closet, where they slammed and locker the door (Bradbury). When Margot s classmates
lock her in a closet it is located in the middle of the story and at the climax. It is important to
notice that Margot will not see the sun because she is locked in a closet. It is the make or break
part in the story because all Margot wants is to see the

Robert Cormier Research Paper
When one thinks of notable authors that have left a lasting legacy in the literary world, they
think of writers such as William Shakespeare, Mark Twain and Stephen King. Robert Cormier isn
t the first name to come to mind. In fact, one may not even know who he is. But yet he is
considered by many who are familiar with his work to be one of the most important American
writers for young adults . Cormier s ride through what we consider today the Contemporary Period,
shaped his writingand led to his contributions as a young adult author that would redefine the
genre with his dark and realistic portrayal of society. Robert Cormier was born in Leominster,

The End Of History
Post World War II, the United States and the Soviet Union were the two poles of the bipolar
world; the two most powerful nations at that time. From a neorealist s point of view, bipolarity is
the ideal case scenario since both the superpowers will have fear of each other and hence there
would be less international conflicts. However, the Cold Warfailed to prove this point. The US (a
capitalist state) and the Soviet Union(a communist state) had conflicting beliefs about government
and economics; hence, the disagreements led to the Cold War. The Cold War is believed to have
lasted from 1947 1991, a span of 44 years with the Soviet Union eventually being dissolved. The
war had long term effects in the years to come and different political scientists... Show more content

Francis Fukuyama, another political scientist, reflected that human nature strives for supremacy
and recognition, which eventually leads to conflicts between different governances. Francis
Fukuyama, the author of the book, The End of History , considered that humans tend to move their
lives towards an end point; which in post Cold War scenario was to eliminate communism and
assert liberal democracy as the universal model of governance. After the Cold War, communism had
been overcome by democracy and hence, according to him, the history had come to an end. He also
believes that China has an efficient authoritarian centralized system with no constraint or checks
and balances. This system can outperform democracy in the short run because decisions can be
made quickly hence better for investment and growth. However, the US and Western Europehave
lots of checks and balances hence, decisions on impending plans cannot be made immediately.
The question now is which system is more sustainable going forward? He thinks that checks and
balances and democracy is superior in the long run because you need to have good leadership
and the right leaders for a liberal system to be implemented properly. After all, he believed that
the only form of government across the globe will eventually be liberal democracy. I consider
Fukuyama s deduction that we have reached the End of History as premature at this point in
history. Former British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, stated: End of history? Beginning of
nonsense. After 1990, since the end of Cold War, there have been several wars and genocides, 9/11
attacks, the emergence of ISIS; all disproving Fukuyama s

In recent years, airlines build a closer relationship, especially European airlines and Chinese
airlines. Europe is the headstream of airplane, but compared to North America, European aviation is
a little bit weak on the ridership. In late 1990s and early 2000s, Europe had more interactions with
American aviation. In recent years, Europe set China as a new partner. European aviation is trying
to expand its international market through increasing new cooperation.
In recent years, the relationship between Chinese and European Aviation is getting closer. The
strongest evidence is that Chinese government and European Union have signed a 5 year work
agreement for reducing the economic burden in aviation industry, preserving aviation safety and
environmental compatibility. European Union and China emphasized the importance of this
project by preparing over 10 million euro as its budget. The detailed work plan was reviewed and
updated in September 2016. This is the first official cooperation in European and Chinese aviation,
which is managed by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and Civil Aviation
Administration of China.
In terms to those individual airlines, there is another event that caught the public attention is that

Historical Book Justice
Throughout much of the historical writings of the Bible, ranging from the book of Joshua to the
book of Esther, the central narrations depict the formation of kingship that leads Israel. This can
be further broken into three sections. First being the Theocracy, covering the period when Israel
was ruled by God. Second, is the Monarchy which traces Israel Kings from the good to the bad
leading to the nation s destruction. Third, is the restoration describing Israel s remnant after the
seventy years of captivity. For the sake of limitation, an example from each section will be
analyzed. In the historical books justice is prevalent because it is an ideal that closely associates
with government or an avenue in which justice is easily issued. In... Show more content on

As noted in previous sections, the state of the world was far from shalom and God was on a
mission to restore this. However, it also seemed Israel was not going to be the source of
redemption as they only held the desire to be like the nations, lacking a manner of justice. Yet,
in this last category one can note of the beginning process of restoration until the time of Jesus.
In this section, there is one important verse to pay attention to. In Ezra 10:14 the idea of justice
is reinstated but not in a way that is simply justice put into action, but in the intent to regather the
people of God; to bring all back into a community of love. This is one step closer to restoring
shalom. The verse prior to this example is key in understanding this (Ez. 10:9 14). Ezra the priest is
calling the people of Israel to rid of their sin and draw back into a state that is founded in God s will
(justice acted in love, love, generosity, and service) (Oswalt

What Is The Symbolism Of The Catcher In The Rye
Journal 5 (Reading Between the Lines) Sometimes it s what characters don t say that matters.
Symbolism provides readers with a chance to read between the lines and further interpret the work
further. J.D. Salinger uses this method to create more depth in his novel, The Catcher in the Rye.
By looking deeper into the symbols of the novel readers understand the true message he wishes to
convey.
One symbol Salinger uses is when Holden has a conversation with an arrogant taxi driver: I didn t
want to start an argument. Okay, I said. Then I thought of something, all of a sudden. Hey, listen, I
said. You know those ducks in that lagoon right near Central Park South? That little lake? By any

When Holden is questioned by his younger sister, Phoebe, regarding what he would like to do
when he gets older, Holden replies, Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some
game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody s around nobody big, I
mean except me. And I m standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to
catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff I mean if they re running and they don t look
where they re going. I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That s all I d do all
day. I d just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it s crazy, but that s the only thing I d really
like to be. Here Holden exposes his deepest desire and interprets the book s theme. Holden attempts
to keep children in the innocence of childhood and his wish to save other children from the descent

preventing a satisfactory resolution.
The Claimant constantly informed senior management in the respondent organisation of the steps
being taken by the Professors to undermine his role to a considerable degree. Since the matter
could not be resolved amicably the claimant pursued the formal grievance procedure. The Claimant
wrote a grievance letter to the Dean of his School, on the 21/01/08. On the 22/01/08 PD wrote to

On the 22/01/ 08 JD wrote the Claimant informing him that he had received his formal complaint

Hip-Hop Culture In The 1980 s

were; Berlin, Hamburg, and Stuttgart. As stated above hip hop culture includes other expressions
other than the music, and in Germany graffiti and breakdancing were very popular in the early
1980 s. From when hip hop started, 1980 s, to now there, like any other trend or culture, has a
difference in opinion through the generations. The article by Androutsopoulos and Scholz (2003)

The popular song topics slowly changed through this time as there was a decline in social
critical discourse and an increase in sex and love. Jovanotti, an Italian artist, made rap popular in
Italy because he took traditional Italian pop songs and turned them into rap. This was his way of
targeting the mainstream audience. Other than Germany and Italy, other major countries were in
the middle of a changing their hip hop culture as well, Spain and France being two of them. The
spread of the rap culture hit Madrid, Spain, where it led to the commencement of the first

Pros And Cons Of Ibn Fadlan
The Rus Dialogues
On the issue of the sources, both present their benefits and hindrances. The Ibn Fadlan text, for
example, does not originate from Ibn Fadlan himself. It is instead a transcription of an account of
his voyages to Russia as a client to the ambassador to the king of the Saqaliba. This fundamental
aspect of the text reveals itself through repeated uses of Ahmad ibn Fadlan says, which
automatically demonstrates that Ibn Fadlan did not write this account since he would have
dispensed with such triviality. As such, its reliability is diminished, as it no longer represents a
direct, first hand account from Ibn Fadlan of his travels, but instead a third individual s
transcription of his travels. Additionally, Richard N. Frye translated the work from its historical
language, presumably some form of Arabic, to modern day English, further diminishing the integrity
of the work. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is highly unlike that Constantine Porphyrogenitus himself, a Byzantine emperor, wrote this
document. He more likely dictated to a scribe, again diminishing the text s integrity, but less so
than for the Ibn Fadlan work, as the Constantine text directly addresses my son, implying
Constantine s words were more directly recorded and even his voice preserved, while in Ibn Fadlan
s text, we are only presented a distant third entity as the author. Additionally, the Constantine text
credits the Greek Text Edited by GY Moravcsik and the English translationwritten by RJH Jenkins.
Thus, the original text was edited and modernized from the Ancient Greek to Modern Greek and
then translated to English, diminishing its integrity and reliability as the original meaning of the
word could have been lost in time in Greek, or lost in translation to

levels, due to the increased exploitation of nonrenewable resources by humans. The focus of the
study was to determine how ocean acidification would affect embryo development and larval

Figure 2 demonstrates the measurements from the digital images taken of larvae. This allows
us to measure from the same locations on the larvae, using this we can compare data to Long et

samples, with the corresponding standard errors. Four of the parameters had the same units
(HCO3 , DIC, alkalinity, and CO32 ), a good visual way to show the difference between them
would be to plot these four parameters on a scatter graph. Table 2 had a lot of data contained in

Since The Age Of Enlightenment, People Have Put Emphasis
Since the Age of Enlightenment, people have put emphasis on words such as how and
why in order to acquire knowledge. To this day, an insatiable desire for information and
understanding can be found in every discipline. More specifically, in the field of criminology, there
s an extensive battle to identify the etiology of drug abuse. This heightened effort is rationalized by
the fact that, in 2007 alone, drug abuse drained $200 billion from the American people in the form
of healthcare, criminal justice, and legal costs (American Addiction Centers N.d.). To stop the

In other words, parents who demand very little and lack responsiveness, such as unengaged
parents, leave their child open to corruption and allow them to develop deviant tendencies.
Baumrind (1975:36) reiterates this in her case study, stating that extremely competent children
are never products of homes in which both parents demonstrate noninvolvement in care taking .
Both of these studies concluded that the amount of restraint involved in any given parenting
style has a direct correlation to how heavily reliant people become on illicit drugs. Nearly every
family has a keepsake or tradition that is passed on from person to person. Likewise, everybody
has a couple of distinct idiosyncrasies that they ve picked up from their own family. For this
reason, it s important to incorporate the family s history of drug abuse into the discussion. In a
like manner, doctors will often begin their search for a diagnosis by asking if there is any
pertinent medical history in the family. This is primarily because, when conducting research, the
family history method is the quickest and easiest way to either rule out possibilities or to support
hypotheses (Andreasen, Rice, Endicott, Reich, Coryell 1986:421). For some, the use of illegal

Analysis Of The Movie Braveheart By William Wallace
If people hear the name William Wallace, they might think of the Mel Gibson movie, Braveheart
. As that is a great movie, it s not nearly the full story of William Wallace. Therefore, a hunt for
the truth of the real the story was underway. William Wallace was born in 1270 s in Scotland, but
not much is known about his childhood but that he lived with his father, Sir Malcom Wallace,
on a small piece of land in Scotland. (BBC) and (The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica) This is
dock number one on the movie. Although some may say, Shame on you Hollywood, for making
up the childhood of this remarkable history hero , At the time of Wallace s childhood, Scotland
was starting its decline into succession when it was taken over by England. Therefore, the
stories could, in fact, be true, although no evidence proves it. As Wallace grew up he learned
how to fight battles logically, which overtime made him grow very respected with the men he
met. He was taught to think before he would speak. He was a natural born leader and would hold
his position firmly. This led to battles won where he had very few men, but a very passionate
and trusting crew because Wallace was their leader. In 1296, the king of England, Edward I, took
advantage of the succession in Scotland and declared himself as ruler of Scotland with English
administration. Only a few revolts had taken place when sheriffs were subject to different areas of
Scotland, and even fewer were successful. So far it seems as though

about doing the things one dreams of, learning new things, mastering new skills, and being with the
people that one enjoys being with. On the contrary, not all people get to do any of those things. It
seems that the ultimate goal is self actualization and life fulfillment, yet why do people never seem
to reach that point?
Humanistic psychology is a value orientation that holds a hopeful, constructive view of human
beings and of their substantial capacity to be self determining (AHP). It focuses on the self,
experiences, and motivation systems unrelated to rewards or unconscious desires (McLeod,
Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs). Abraham Maslow, one of the leading psychologists in humanistic
psychology, conceived the idea of the hierarchy of needs that revealed what motivates people to do
the things that they do. Similarly, Carl Rodgers later added that for a person to grow , they need an
environment that provides them with genuineness, acceptance, and empathy (McLeod, Carl
Rogers). In Maslow s hierarchy of needs one cannot get to the top without first starting from the
bottom and working upwards through each level. As can be seen in the diagram on page 2, from
the bottom up Maslow states that physiological needs must be met, then safety, love, esteem, and
self actualization. The key is

Essay On Nacirema Culture
Cosmetics are a large part of the Nacirema culture, particularly for women. Cosmetics are geared
toward women so they can improve upon or even completely change their natural looks. Their goal
is often to make themselves fit the standard of beauty often shown in magazines, television or other
media.
Women are often expected to wear cosmeticsas a way to enhance their appearance. This is because
appearance plays a large role in Nacirema culture. If you do not look a certain way, especially as a
female, you may be ostracized and condemned by others. Women are expected to make
themselves look attractive and presentable at all times, this is a double standard as the
expectations are not the same for men. While in a professional setting, both men and women are
expected to dress formally, but there is no push for men to enhance the features they were born
with. Commercials for cosmetics are aimed toward women, often regaling them with stories of
how if they buy said product they will be more successful in life, feel better about themselves or
finally get the guy they ve been after.
This can tell us a lot about Nacirema beliefs. The biggest one being that women are, above ... Show

Why Special Needs Students Should Be Mainstreamed
Why special needs students should be mainstreamed What is Mainstreaming? According to
(Mainstreaming: The Special Needs Child Goes to School), Mainstreaming means that the special
needs child attends a regular classroom along with students who are his or her actual (not
development) age. Mainstreaming means that the child is not kept isolated in a special class, away
from peers, but is included just like everyone else. Most children that have physical disabilities,
learning difficulties, or emotional issues are placed into Special Educationclasses. In these classes,
there are teachers who are there to help them exceed in things they normally would not be able to
do. Every student is different and every child has their own disabilities. Each individual s case can
differ from being mild, moderate, to extremely severe. (Mainstreaming Special Education in the
Classroom) Regardless of the issues they might face, it does not make their importance any less.
Each student s abilities and deficits must be examined against the pros and cons of mainstreaming
to come up with an optimal choice on a case by case basis. (Brighthub Edu) There are individuals
opinions on (www.debate.org) where they argue on whether students with special needs should be
mainstreamed, and on one of the comments a person stated Their rights are not more important
than those of the normal children No, they are not more important, but they are equally important.

Swot Analysis Of Nike
Nike (NKE) is a well known clothing, footwear, and sporting equipment company based in the

soon to come change in the price of Nike s stock. Overall, I believe Nike will be a strong
performer. This is partly due to the fact that it is a brand that is currently in high demand as a
result of a consumer trend towards active lifestyles and activities. In addition, I feel like the
innovation and design that goes into Nike products is hard to beat and thus hard to replace. As
long as Nike keeps its consume s needs in mind, I believe it will be a very prosperous company.
While non investors may not be too familiar with Proctor Gamble (PG) they have probably heard

Since its founding in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1837, the company has grown tremendously and today it
operates around the globe. Putting aside unexpected laws and regulation both at home and abroad,
things look good for P G. Since the company produces consumer products that are used by a

overall decline in the retail sector. In addition, current economic condition at home seem

Does The Baptism Debate
INTRODUCTION
I am doing my term paper on The Baptism Debate. We were all given a choice of what we
wanted to do for our topic and I decided on this debate because I kind of knew a little about this
subject and wanted to see the different views included. There is a slight bias to this subject matter
because of my own personal experiences in my life. Throughout Scripture, Christians have all
agreed that it is God s will that all must be baptized. It has been commanded by Him and not
considered an optional experience for individuals. Learning about the two different viewpoints, that
I will express in this paper, have brought out a great argument about when and how a human being
should be baptized. I am now going to talk about the history of ... Show more content on

My pastor asked them the questions on my behalf and I was washed clean and given the
opportunity to let my life be guided by Christ our savior. I still believe I would have this stance on
the argument because this is what scripture is full of. I don t agree with the thought that The
Believer s Baptism View goes against the church tradition. There is something to be said about
how when a child is born into this world, they bring a natural sin with them. They need to be
cleansed with the Holy Spirit at baptism. I do understand where some people will say that parents
making a decision for you is not right and that there needs to be free will involved when choosing
to follow Christ. The counter argument that caught my eye to back up my view though was how
that gives the impression that Salvation is a matter of God responding to human choice. The infant
baptism rather illustrates how God has full control over our salvation. That is where I truly and
firmly stick by the Infant Baptism View. The next section will follow an outside example of how
this applies in my own

Example Of Heroes In Beowulf
Heroes have become a staple in every culture. Even cultures that existed long before our own.
This is because heroes give common people a figure to look up to and to try to mirror. Heroes also
give something for people to root for. Heroes can also come in many different forms. Some are
obvious and are told right from the start that they are a hero. Others play a less obvious role in the
overall story and can often be misinterpreted for a villain. Heroes represent all the good people
search for in life but they also have flaws to them as well making them more humanand more
relatable to people. Heroes can also vary based off of their gender, time period, location, and
purpose of the character. In the story of Beowulf, the hero is none other than the title character
Beowulf. Beowulf is a strong and very independent character who destroys monsters and
becomes a great king . He is not only able to stand up for himself but also stand up for other
people. This reflects the time periods society. Kaluza s law provides a reliable basis for dating
Beowulf to approximately the year 725 or earlier . Men are meant to be tough and strong. Men
are not supposed to be afraid of anything but instead be prideful and go around flipping mead hall
benches to show power. These are characteristics that were valued to the people of this time period
and these are characteristics that they would model their men after and how they expected their
king to act. Isaac Disraeli described the story of

A Study On New Orleans Essay

For more than two centuries, coffee has been a fundamental part of the culinary and social culture

It s not just the city s penchant for chicory cafГ© au lait served alongside warm beignets. Nor is it
just landmark gathering spots like CafГ© du Monde and or Morning Call Coffee Stand that
spawned the notion of the laborers coffee break and served locals and tourists for generations.

Alongside these the gustatory expressions is the city s historic and longstanding role in the coffee

The Future For Trade Unions
1.The future for trade unions Trade unions have played a crucial role in developing a democratic
society in terms of monitoring and enforcement in the areas of wages and employment conditions.
(Landau et al 2014, ????) It has been argued that the Industrial Commission gave Australia both
political and competitive advantage and provided both members and non members, significant
workplace gains throughout most of the 20th century. (Ref) Whilst not formally united with the
Australian Labour Party (ALP), the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) has sustained
close association with it. The ACTU has played a critical role in Australian politics. Bob Hawke
was president of the ACTU from 1970 to 1980, and went on to become labour prime minister from
1983 to 1991. The establishment of Australia s Industrial Relations Reform Act in 1993, which was
intended to streamline the collective bargaining process, largely resulted in a decline in ACTU
membership. (Ref) In 2006, the Howard governments WorkChoices laws came in to effect.
Employees saw this as opportunity to remove unfair dismissal protection, while reducing employee
entitlement, removing the independent industrial arbitrator and ultimately weakening trade union
muscle. (Wilson Spies Butcher 2011) In 2006 07, a critical movement came with the ACTU s Your
rights at work campaign. The campaigns objective was to build enough opposition to WorkChoices
in order to defeat the government during the 2007 election. It

Essay On Energy Recovery
Energy Recovery
Anaerobic treatment gives a high potential of energy recovery from wastewater in form of biogas.
The effluent can also serve industrial heating and cooling purposes. Wastewater has a huge potential
of electricity generation. Technologies exist for on site energy recovery through sludge/biosolids
treatment processes integrated in wastewater treatment plants, allowing for transition from major
energy consumers to energy producers.
Strict standards for discharge often require energy intensive advanced treatment technologies. As a
result, the number of plants using advanced treatment has increased [17]. Rising energy costs and
concerns about greenhouse gas generation present a major incentive for tracking energy usage of ...

Biogas is a mixture essentially comprising mostly methane (CH4, around 55 75%) but also contains
carbon dioxide (CO2, around 25 30%), varying quantities of water (H2O) and hydrogen sulphide

This corresponds to half a litre of diesel oil and 5.5 kg of firewood [21].
4.2Microbial Fuel Cell Technology
Wastewater treatment is an energy intensive process, consuming about 1,900 kJ/m3 of treated
wastewater [22]. Wastewater contains almost 9 times more energy than the energy used to treat
an equivalent volume, thus creating the need to harness this energy through the use of a
Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) [22]. Microbial Fuel cell (MFC) is a device designed for electricity
generation in the process of wastewater treatment [23]. Microbial fuel cell is a new form of
renewable energy, which uses bacteria in wastewater to convert organic matter into electricity, while
simultaneously treating the wastewater. MFCs can provide an answer to several of the problems
which traditional wastewater treatment faces. They enable the recovery of energy out of the
wastewater, while limiting both the energy input and the excess sludge production [24].
5.0Nutrient recovery
Wastewater nutrients are resources that can generate revenues for treatment plants while helping
meet environmental regulations. Wastewater and municipal sludge, can be a reliable source of

The year 1877 is considered the year that ended Reconstruction mainly because of the actions that
took place after the election of Rutherford B. Hayes. Initially, it looked as if Democrat Samuel
Tilden had won the election. Tilden had the majority in the popular vote but had only ended with
184 out of a needed 185 electoral votes. Three southern states had disputed returns during this
election and their electoral votes had not been accounted for yet. This led to a few months of both
parties trying to claim the remaining electoral votes. This brings us to the the Compromise of 1877.

There was a lot of violence that hd happened in the years prior to the election primarily the years

religious metaphor that matched their view of the Civil War as a lost crusade, southern

instances in which white persons joined together in an effort of intimaidation and were mostly

One example that had a profound impact was that of the New Orleans Leaguers who attempted to

Hospice Is A Good Option For Them
If a patient does not have the ability to exercise the right to die, hospice is a really good option for
them to control the pain and pass peacefully. Hospice care is specialized care designed to provide
support to a person and their loved ones during an advanced illness, it focuses on comfort and
quality of life rather than a cure. (Hospice, 2015) Hospice is really the only option for people who
live in states that do not support the right to die; it strives to give the patient the highest possible
quality of life and make them comfortable, so they can live their final days to the fullest. Hospice
is offered in the home, in long term care facilities, and hospice will do about anything to keep the
patient comfortable. They help prepare their patients and their families for the approaching death,
and they offer bereavement services to the family after the death for up to three months. Hospice
is a great resource for people who are ready to stop fighting and be comfortable, but it still does
not provide the freedom that the right to die laws can, like allowing people to make their own
choices about their life.
Right to die laws are state mandated in only four states: Oregon, California, Washington, and
Vermont. State mandated means that if a person meets the requirements to exercise their right to
die, and he can find a physician that will write their prescription, he is free to do as he pleases. In
Montana, right to die is mandated by court ruling, which means you must go to

The s Presidential Election By Joe Biden
Would you want to have a beer with them? In 2008 s presidential election, this was a popular

himself on the top of those polls was Joe Biden. A man known for his down to earth attitude,

has also experienced recent personal struggles with the death of his son, Beau. With all these
story angles to take, the media has been taken various approaches to following Biden s potential
campaign. Each platform presents the story in a different way, as well, and it is interesting to see
the variance of coverage that traditional T.V., traditional print and evolving media have between

Peaceful Civil Disobedience
Civil disobedience is a timeless practice that has been carried on from generation to generation,
from Socrates refusal to execute Leon of Salamis to today s Syrian rebels fight for freedom. In
many cases of injustice, the public will rise up to reclaim their human rights, and ever so often
these fights are nonviolent in nature and educational to all the people who engage in it. However,
even in acts of nonviolent demonstrations, both the demonstrator and the demonstrated can be hurt.
So the question arises: does peaceful disobedience positively impact a free society? Or does such
disobedience only contribute to the tension already apparent? The answer to this question, simply
put, is that civil disobediencecan positively impact a free society in more ways than one. Peaceful
civil disobedience is one of the most important aspects that exemplifies a truly free society, for the
ability of a group to protest against injustice is true human freedom. Peaceful demonstrations can
also encourage better and stronger livelihood among people who are oppressed, since these
actions can and will open the eyes of oppressors, and as a result such... Show more content on

corruption. Harrison Bergeron, an elite young teenager, sees the malfeasance in the government,
and decides to stand up for the greater good of the nation. In order to do this, Harrison removes
all of the handicaps placed on him by the government and reveals it to the world on live
television, eventually being shot and killed. Many people may see Harrison as a threat to his
society due to the unnecessary chaos he caused. However, because he sparked the idea of rebellion
in a civilization desperate for freedom, Harrison Bergeron can be considered a hero to society.
Harrison s actions of can be described as heroic due to the fact that he attempted to revolutionize
the society in a way that benefitted the population as a whole, not just himself. Many other
people were angered and confused by the idea of handicaps, and by standing up to the
government when all other people were afraid to do so, he acted in a selfless manner, a
characteristic of a true hero. An example of another person doubting the intentions of the Handicap
General can be seen at the beginning of the story, when George, Harrison s father, realizes that it is
unfair to place the hindrance of a handicap on a ballerina. On page 2, the text states, George was

The Revolution Of The Cuban Revolution
Art in Cuba was drastically affected from nineteen fifty to nineteen sixty and changed in the years
that followed because of the Cuban revolution. The oxford dictionary defines art as the expression
or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting
or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power, as
well as the branches of creativity, such as painting, music, and dance. Art and its many different
forms were heavily influenced by the Cuban Revolution. Artists find inspirations for their works
from a number of different resources. Inspiration can be found from a simple conversation that
sparks and idea to portraying a grave passion. In the case of the revolution, artists used their art as
a way to voice their views. This is why many writers, journalists, and academic people were exiled
during this time.
To clarify, the Cuban Revolution, which began in July 1953, was a rebellion led by Fidel Castro
and his allies to overthrow Fulgencio Batista. It triumphed six years later on the first of January
1959, when Batista was forced out of power by rebels. In the beginning, the Revolution and Castro
had tremendous support from almost all of Cuba as well as enthusiasm from others worldwide who
viewed the Revolution as an anti imperialist movement. The Cuban Revolution brought a great deal
of attention to Latin America. Mass media now allowed the world to be connected and aware of

The Theme Of Companionship In Of Mice And Men
How does the author, John Steinbeck, suggest the death of companionship and inevitability of
loneliness, in the novella Of mice and Men? In the novella Of mice and men there is a consistent
theme of loneliness is shown throughout the novella. In the novella, there is also a strong sense
of the death of companionship within it, Candy and his dog and George both experience the
death of their companionship within the story. While Curley s Wife and Crooks experience
loneliness. All of the characters experience this theme of loneliness throughout the story whether
through the death of one s companionship or never having a companionship in the first place. In
the novella Of mice and Men the character Candy gives us a good representation of the meaning
of the death of companionship within and throughout the book. There are multiple examples of
this but one in particular comes to mind; he rolled slowly over and faced the wall and lay
silently Indicates to us the sorrow and the pain he feels, and grieves in misery over the death of his
companionship. This conveys an image of loss and embarrassment, this is shown by him facing the
wall and laying silently as he... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With Crooks it was due to him being black, but with Curley s wife, it s because she is a women,
and due to that she experiences a strong sense of loneliness. Curleys wife in the novella wants to
gain attention from other characters, in the hopes of her getting companion that she truly desires,
something similar to Crooks. This is clearly indicated to us by Curley s wife responding; Why
can t I talk to you? I never get to talk to nobody. I get awful lonely. and her words tumbled out in a
passion of communication Like stated before, she s trying to use her language to gain the attention
of other characters and for them to sympathise her, this again is very similar to

Simon As A Christ Figure In Lord Of The Flies By William...
John T. Martin
English IV Honors
Mrs. Mullally
10/18/17
It has been suggested that Simon is a Christ figure in the novel. Describe some of his qualities and
actions which justify such a comparison.
In the novel, The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding, there are a series of characters
that represent different themes, figures, and ideas. Some characters, for example, show leadership,
wisdom, a desire for power, gullibility, and Christ likeness. These roles are equally as important for
the setup and flow of the novel, but one represents love, sacrifice, and a Christ like idealism more
than the others. Although his age is never identified, Simon is depicted as one of the more mature
boys and seems to be the only one who remains in a constant and civilized mindset throughout his
time on the island. Simon has an innate goodness and represents a constant moral behavior. His
ability to be a light to the other boys along with his ability to recognize that the beast and evil
dwells more so in them than on the actual island, is very important in the novels storyline. The first
major event that really stands out as a representation to Simon s Christ likeness is when Jack brings
back the first pig for the boys to eat. Jack is the hunter in the group and the most evil character of
the boys. Even though he provides food, his desire for power and the re occurring events of his
evil actions show his downfall from civilization. Upon Jack s return with meat, he gives all the

Personal Statement On Social Work
Empowerment is something that is a top priority when working with people. While many love
helping people, empowering them at the same time is my ultimate goal. Throughout this essay, I
hope to show how vital it is for me to obtain a Masters in Social Work. I will be doing this by
presenting my experience and relationships that have influenced my selection of the social work
career, my understanding of the responsibilities of the profession, my role and responsibilities that I
assume in the profession, my reasons for selecting the program and thoughts, and thoughts on how
the mission statement addresses my career goals.

The most recent experience that I have achieved is the internship at the Superior Court. At this
internship I am constantly helping individuals. There are many positions I do at this internship
including, working at the information desk, escorting customers around the court house, helping
one find the correct document at the Law Library, helping individuals file for an order of
protection, or simply talking with customers about their options. Individuals who come into the
courthouse at the Law Library are self represented litigants. These people do not have the funds
for a lawyer to help them and are doing everything on their own. Many times they are
overwhelmed, upset, angry, and confused about what to do. The purpose of interns being at the
court is to help them through their issues. One example of this is to simply find the right court
file to fill out for a divorce or child custody modification. I love being able to help these individuals
because many times I am making their day by helping them find the right form. It sounds simple,
but to them it is enormous help. Additionally, the protective order center serves women who are
experiencing domestic violence. Within this part of the court house, I have learned to be patient
and use empathy to help them through the forms. Many times they are disheveled and cannot fill
out forms. When I started my degree, I focused my research on the children and

What Is Stretching Essay
Benefits of Stretching
The body is flexible. It is supposed to be flexible. You must be able to bend and reach that
something you dropped on the floor. You must be able to zip the back of your favorite dress on
your own. You must be able to reach that book you need to read at the top shelf. These are simple
activities. Nothing grand about them, you merely stretched out a bit. However, if there are
difficulties in doing such simple motions, then you have to stretch your limits. You already need a
stretching program.
What Is Stretching?
Stretching is simply the act of extending to full length the body or simply a part of it. This activity
involves straightening or stretching the structure or the limbs.
How Does One Do the Stretching?
Stretching is fairly easy. As mentioned in the introduction, it is involved in the normal activities. It

It can be incorporated in the lifestyle and the daily activities. It does not require much of your
time. Stretching exercises can also be done while training. Actually, stretching is an essential
part of any training or sport. It must be done first before anything else. Stretching the body and
the limbs is a good preparation for a more rigorous activity. Most athletes would do the sit and
reach, wherein they position on the floor, extend their legs and reach the tip of their foot with the
tip of their hand. Actually, most trainers actually require their athletes to really do the stretching
before playing. There is actually an ideal length of time in stretching. It is best to do it in 10
minutes. This will give the body enough opportunity to move and flex the muscles, thus preparing
it for more complicated and strenuous movements. Experts however would frown upon going way
beyond 10 minutes. Stretching the exercise to 30 minutes or more will already wear out the body.
This will not be favorable if one is preparing for a

Ray Kroc was unethical in the film. By selling customers milkshakes made without milk using a
powder is misleading. His decision to make this change was also influenced by Joan who
proposed the idea, he wanted to please her in order for her to like him. This went against the
brothers and their ethical beliefs and values. His ruthlessness and greed led him to this unethical
behavior. However, at the end of the film it states that milk was later re added to the milkshakes.
The way in which their contract was changed and broken was also unethical. Kroc also states that
is his competitors were drowning he would shove a hose down their throats. He asks Mac
McDonald if he would do the same to which he immediately replies no. This is a perfect example
of how Kroc and the McDonald brothers ethics

  • 2. Reality Tv Paper Assignment 1: Reality television has become increasingly more popular and appears to be taking over the entertainment business. Psychologist Lawrence Rubin seems to think it all goes back to Aristotle, The notion of being drawn to drama and tragedy (Kinon, 2009). The viewer receives a false sense of real life and disconnects from their own real life by diving into someone else s. The effects these television shows have on society as a whole can be positive or negative depending on the message the show depicts. Shows such as Jersey Shore , 16 and Pregnant , and Dr. 90210 are a huge success to MTV but could be considered detrimental to society by painting distorted pictures of reality in the viewer s mind. Teens that are lonely, not social or are picked on in school can see how much happiness a child can bring to those reality stars, and they can ask themselves why not get pregnant and try to enjoy that for themselves. That s not a reason to have a child and its not capitalized enough on the show. At the end of each season MTV hosts a Teen Mom After Show to recap on seasons highlights as well as clips that weren t shown. Most teen moms are questioned about their experience and when asked if they are still sexually active most of them all answer yes but with protection or contraception. • 3. The Is An Old Proverb Where there is a will, there is a way Where there is a will, there is a way is an old proverb which almost everyone knows, but not everyone understand it very well. This proverb means that if you are really resolved to do something, no matter how difficult it might be, never give up, and you will find a way to do it at last. In our life, many people are under too much pressure, just like a piece of heavy rock on the shoulder. So we need to calm down and think about our future to find out a way to release stress. We may wonder if there is no hope for us to become successful. And we know that sighing is not useful, and the only way is that we must find a goalor dream in our lives. The reason why people feel confused and futureless is that they do not have clear aspirations, and they do not know what they live for. Without goals, they will only stay in the same place and never go ahead. Without ambitions, they will become lazy and resign themselves to fate. If we do not want opportunities to slip away, we need to go out of the whirlpool of confusion by setting up ideals and ambitions. A great person not only has a clear goal, but also has a firm resolution and an inflexible spirit. Ninety percent of the failures that occur are due to the fact that there is no strong will. On many occasions, people probably say much more than the truth about difficulties, making the objective impossible to reach. In fact, if a person has the will to succeed, then the size of ... Sociology is a social science where the study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society happen. Criminology is also a social science that studies crime and criminal behavior. Sociologists, by studying society and relationships, are able to determine the thoughts and actions of individuals or criminals. Each science can relate to other sciences and Criminology relates to Psychology, Sociology and more. Sociology and Criminology both contribute to society. We are all able to believe different and not think the same and still live in harmony. There needs to be an understanding and respect in difference of opinions. On the other hand, Criminology is about the crime and criminals in society. It involves law enforcement and the criminal justice system. Criminal justice and Criminology are related fields, but are not the same things. Criminal justice focuses more on upholding social control and Criminology is the study of the crimes and criminals. Whereas, both are just as important. Criminology, with the help of other social sciences, go deep within the criminal and the crime to get to the bottom of what they are thinking, what has made them do it, why they did it, what is next, and also how to stop it and how to prevent it from happening again. Criminology also deals with issues in the field. Famous brands we all know such as Johnson Johnson, Hewlett Packard, Tyson Foods, Ralph Lauren, Wal Mart and many more have all allegedly been responsible for giving money or other benefits in exchange for favors that will bend the law. One way for a company to avoid bribery within the company is to assess all the risks that have to do with bribery. Businesses must educate the employees about the risks involved. In most countries, bribery or acts of corruption are punishable by law which can bring a bad name to the company and later lead to trust issues. This can severely hinder the profitability of a business. A company that has been found guilty of bribes can lose consumer confidence; which results in the loss of profit. Companies must be aware of the differences and rules of conducting business within other countries and avoid any malpractices (Prevent Bribery). Another way to avoid bribery is there must be a zero tolerance policy towards bribery within the entire company. This can be ensured by top management explaining that bribery can lead to severe consequences which can involve imprisonment, heavy fines, and termination. All of Margot s classmates but they lock her in a closet and go enjoy the sun while she islocked in the closet. All Summer in a Day teaches readers that sameness is bad because there is no change and no experimenting with the world. One way that sameness has a negative impact on the people is the weather. For example, It had been raining for seven years; thousands upon thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to the other with rain (Bradbury). On Venus they are not accustomed to change they only experience rain. They have not seen the sun for seven years. They only experience rain everyday the same thing one after another. • 9. The End Of History Post World War II, the United States and the Soviet Union were the two poles of the bipolar world; the two most powerful nations at that time. From a neorealist s point of view, bipolarity is the ideal case scenario since both the superpowers will have fear of each other and hence there would be less international conflicts. However, the Cold Warfailed to prove this point. The US (a capitalist state) and the Soviet Union(a communist state) had conflicting beliefs about government and economics; hence, the disagreements led to the Cold War. The Cold War is believed to have lasted from 1947 1991, a span of 44 years with the Soviet Union eventually being dissolved. Francis Fukuyama, another political scientist, reflected that human nature strives for supremacy and recognition, which eventually leads to conflicts between different governances. Francis Fukuyama, the author of the book, The End of History , considered that humans tend to move their lives towards an end point; which in post Cold War scenario was to eliminate communism and assert liberal democracy as the universal model of governance. After the Cold War, communism had been overcome by democracy and hence, according to him, the history had come to an end. He also believes that China has an efficient authoritarian centralized system with no constraint or checks and balances. This system can outperform democracy in the short run because decisions can be made quickly hence better for investment and growth. However, the US and Western Europehave lots of checks and balances hence, decisions on impending plans cannot be made immediately. The question now is which system is more sustainable going forward? He thinks that checks and balances and democracy is superior in the long run because you need to have good leadership and the right leaders for a liberal system to be implemented properly. After all, he believed that the only form of government across the globe will eventually be liberal democracy. I consider Fukuyama s deduction that we have reached the End of History as premature at this point in history. Former British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, stated: End of history? Beginning of nonsense. After 1990, since the end of Cold War, there have been several wars and genocides, 9/11 attacks, the emergence of ISIS; all disproving Fukuyama s ... Europe is the headstream of airplane, but compared to North America, European aviation is a little bit weak on the ridership. European aviation is trying to expand its international market through increasing new cooperation. In recent years, the relationship between Chinese and European Aviation is getting closer. The strongest evidence is that Chinese government and European Union have signed a 5 year work agreement for reducing the economic burden in aviation industry, preserving aviation safety and environmental compatibility. Historical Book Justice Throughout much of the historical writings of the Bible, ranging from the book of Joshua to the book of Esther, the central narrations depict the formation of kingship that leads Israel. This can be further broken into three sections. First being the Theocracy, covering the period when Israel was ruled by God. Second, is the Monarchy which traces Israel Kings from the good to the bad leading to the nation s destruction. Third, is the restoration describing Israel s remnant after the seventy years of captivity. For the sake of limitation, an example from each section will be analyzed. However, it also seemed Israel was not going to be the source of redemption as they only held the desire to be like the nations, lacking a manner of justice. Yet, in this last category one can note of the beginning process of restoration until the time of Jesus. In this section, there is one important verse to pay attention to. In Ezra 10:14 the idea of justice is reinstated but not in a way that is simply justice put into action, but in the intent to regather the people of God; to bring all back into a community of love. This is one step closer to restoring shalom. The verse prior to this example is key in understanding this (Ez. 10:9 14). One symbol Salinger uses is when Holden has a conversation with an arrogant taxi driver: I didn t want to start an argument. Okay, I said. Then I thought of something, all of a sudden. The Ibn Fadlan text, for example, does not originate from Ibn Fadlan himself. It is instead a transcription of an account of his voyages to Russia as a client to the ambassador to the king of the Saqaliba. This fundamental aspect of the text reveals itself through repeated uses of Ahmad ibn Fadlan says, which automatically demonstrates that Ibn Fadlan did not write this account since he would have dispensed with such triviality. As such, its reliability is diminished, as it no longer represents a direct, first hand account from Ibn Fadlan of his travels, but instead a third individual s transcription of his travels. Although some may say, Shame on you Hollywood, for making up the childhood of this remarkable history hero , At the time of Wallace s childhood, Scotland was starting its decline into succession when it was taken over by England. Therefore, the stories could, in fact, be true, although no evidence proves it. As Wallace grew up he learned how to fight battles logically, which overtime made him grow very respected with the men he met. He was taught to think before he would speak. He was a natural born leader and would hold his position firmly. This led to battles won where he had very few men, but a very passionate and trusting crew because Wallace was their leader. In 1296, the king of England, Edward I, took advantage of the succession in Scotland and declared himself as ruler of Scotland with English administration. • 21. Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs Throughout human history people have sought to better themselves and ascend to higher levels beyond what others thought possible. As many might say, life is more than just surviving, it is about doing the things one dreams of, learning new things, mastering new skills, and being with the people that one enjoys being with. On the contrary, not all people get to do any of those things. It seems that the ultimate goal is self actualization and life fulfillment, yet why do people never seem to reach that point? Humanistic psychology is a value orientation that holds a hopeful, constructive view of human beings and of their substantial capacity to be self determining (AHP). It focuses on the self, experiences, and motivation systems unrelated to rewards or unconscious desires (McLeod, Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs). Abraham Maslow, one of the leading psychologists in humanistic psychology, conceived the idea of the hierarchy of needs that revealed what motivates people to do the things that they do. Similarly, Carl Rodgers later added that for a person to grow , they need an environment that provides them with genuineness, acceptance, and empathy (McLeod, Carl Rogers). In Maslow s hierarchy of needs one cannot get to the top without first starting from the bottom and working upwards through each level. Cosmetics are geared toward women so they can improve upon or even completely change their natural looks. Their goal is often to make themselves fit the standard of beauty often shown in magazines, television or other media. Women are often expected to wear cosmeticsas a way to enhance their appearance. This is because appearance plays a large role in Nacirema culture. If you do not look a certain way, especially as a female, you may be ostracized and condemned by others. Women are expected to make themselves look attractive and presentable at all times, this is a double standard as the expectations are not the same for men. While in a professional setting, both men and women are expected to dress formally, but there is no push for men to enhance the features they were born with. Commercials for cosmetics are aimed toward women, often regaling them with stories of how if they buy said product they will be more successful in life, feel better about themselves or finally get the guy they ve been after. In addition, I feel like the innovation and design that goes into Nike products is hard to beat and thus hard to replace. We were all given a choice of what we wanted to do for our topic and I decided on this debate because I kind of knew a little about this subject and wanted to see the different views included. There is a slight bias to this subject matter because of my own personal experiences in my life. Throughout Scripture, Christians have all agreed that it is God s will that all must be baptized. It has been commanded by Him and not considered an optional experience for individuals. There is something to be said about how when a child is born into this world, they bring a natural sin with them. They need to be cleansed with the Holy Spirit at baptism. I do understand where some people will say that parents making a decision for you is not right and that there needs to be free will involved when choosing to follow Christ. The counter argument that caught my eye to back up my view though was how that gives the impression that Salvation is a matter of God responding to human choice. This is because heroes give common people a figure to look up to and to try to mirror. Heroes also give something for people to root for. Heroes can also come in many different forms. Some are obvious and are told right from the start that they are a hero. Others play a less obvious role in the overall story and can often be misinterpreted for a villain. Heroes represent all the good people search for in life but they also have flaws to them as well making them more humanand more relatable to people. Heroes can also vary based off of their gender, time period, location, and purpose of the character. In the story of Beowulf, the hero is none other than the title character Beowulf. Beowulf is a strong and very independent character who destroys monsters and becomes a great king . He is not only able to stand up for himself but also stand up for other people. This reflects the time periods society. Kaluza s law provides a reliable basis for dating Beowulf to approximately the year 725 or earlier . Men are meant to be tough and strong. Men are not supposed to be afraid of anything but instead be prideful and go around flipping mead hall benches to show power. However, even in acts of nonviolent demonstrations, both the demonstrator and the demonstrated can be hurt. So the question arises: does peaceful disobedience positively impact a free society? The oxford dictionary defines art as the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power, as well as the branches of creativity, such as painting, music, and dance. Art and its many different forms were heavily influenced by the Cuban Revolution. Artists find inspirations for their works from a number of different resources. Inspiration can be found from a simple conversation that sparks and idea to portraying a grave passion. In the case of the revolution, artists used their art as a way to voice their views. • 44. Simon As A Christ Figure In Lord Of The Flies By William... John T. Martin English IV Honors Mrs. Mullally 10/18/17 It has been suggested that Simon is a Christ figure in the novel. Describe some of his qualities and actions which justify such a comparison. In the novel, The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding, there are a series of characters that represent different themes, figures, and ideas. Some characters, for example, show leadership, wisdom, a desire for power, gullibility, and Christ likeness. These roles are equally as important for the setup and flow of the novel, but one represents love, sacrifice, and a Christ like idealism more than the others. Although his age is never identified, Simon is depicted as one of the more mature boys and seems to be the only one who remains in a constant and civilized mindset throughout his time on the island. Simon has an innate goodness and represents a constant moral behavior. His ability to be a light to the other boys along with his ability to recognize that the beast and evil dwells more so in them than on the actual island, is very important in the novels storyline. The first major event that really stands out as a representation to Simon s Christ likeness is when Jack brings back the first pig for the boys to eat. Jack is the hunter in the group and the most evil character of the boys. Even though he provides food, his desire for power and the re occurring events of his evil actions show his downfall from civilization. Upon Jack s return with meat, he gives all the ... Individuals who come into the courthouse at the Law Library are self represented litigants. These people do not have the funds for a lawyer to help them and are doing everything on their own. Many times they are overwhelmed, upset, angry, and confused about what to do. The purpose of interns being at the court is to help them through their issues. One example of this is to simply find the right court file to fill out for a divorce or child custody modification. I love being able to help these individuals because many times I am making their day by helping them find the right form. It sounds simple, but to them it is enormous help. Additionally, the protective order center serves women who are experiencing domestic violence. Within this part of the court house, I have learned to be patient and use empathy to help them through the forms. Many times they are disheveled and cannot fill out forms.
