Essay about The Persecution of the Hollywood Ten
Hollywood Ten For my arcival project I chose to research the Hollywood Ten, I chose this because
I am fascinated by the events of that occurred around this time and group. The Hollywood Ten was
a group of writers, directors, and other artists who bravely refused to answer questions in front of
the House of Un American Activities and were therefore sentenced to jail time and banned from
working in Hollywood. The actions of that the House of Un American Activities and the resistance
of the Hollywood Ten raised attention and a debate across the country about the actions that the
government was taking against Hollywood artists. The House of Un American Activities
Committee was a government committee which set out to investigate alleged... Show more content

I find it interesting that so many people were swayed by what they were being told by the
government. I have the impression that American are very gullible and naГЇve. There had to be
more to what they were doing to convince Americans that Hollywood was friendly with
Communists and poisoning them with their movies. When I think of Americans today, many of
them raise an eyebrow to what the government is telling them. They will also often times do the
exact opposite of what the government is asking them to do. When Mike Bloomberg suggested
making it illegal for restaurants to sell extra large sodas, many people that I know went crazy
and would deliberately get extra large sodas. These people didn t necessarily like soda or need
one of that size and most definitely knew that it was not good for them; however they didn t like
the fact that someone from the government was telling them what they could and could not drink.
These people felt that their rights were being violated. This is how I view most Americans today,
they are stubborn and are very protective of their rights. Which is why I find it hard to believe that
people actually bought into the idea that Hollywood was poisoning them with Communist ideas and
were in cahoots with Russia? My first experience at the New York

What Is The Main Idea Of Race Talk
Although the primary utilization of this book is centered on the psychological aspects of racial
dialogues viz. race talk, it also exposes the irrational fears, attitudes, and beliefs, inherent in our
(The United States) society. It is about the persistent avoidance of honest dialogues on race that
may uncover the true inequalities and injustices inflicted on people of color. What talking about race
does is open the dialogue and allow a view of the lived experience of those who suffer from
oppression. It potentially grasps these experiences and presents the possibility of moving the
reader from a perceived nonracist being into the realm of antiracism. From the nonracist point of
view, one can be silent on the topic of race and hold firm

Kudler Fine Food s Financial Position
Kudler CEO Financial Memo
The liquidity, profitability, and solvency ratios reveal some interesting points about Kudler Fine
Food s financial position. The liquidity ratios revealed that during 2002 and 2003, Kudler was
having no trouble paying short term debt. However, the current and acid test (quick) ratios showed
that during 2003 Kudler had an excess amount of cash that they were not investing properly. These
ratios also showed that Kudler was collecting receivables and selling average inventory very
quickly. The profitability ratios revealed that during 2002 and 2003, Kudler was using assets
efficiently and making a decent profit. The profit margin ratio showed that during 2002 Kudler
made a profit of four cents per dollar, and during 2003 they made a profit of roughly six cents per
dollar. In addition, the return on assets ratio (which is also a profitability ratio) showed that
Kudler utilized their assets efficiently enough to turn a profit. The solvency ratio used, which was
the debt to total assets ratio, showed that during 2002 and 2003 Kudler only had around a quarter
of their assets financed in debt. All of these ratios show that Kudler was a fairly strong company
financially during 2002 and 2003. When trying to figure out how successful Kudler Fine Foods is,
it is critical to review all financial statements. By using the horizontal and vertical analysis and the
determining ratio calculations the profitability, liquidity, and solvency are figured. A specific

Financial Risks
The successful management of financial institutions (FIs) demands an understanding of the
relevant structures, operations, and the associated risks. In particular, the assessment of the risks is
necessary to make the appropriate steps to maintain the solvency of FIs (Saunders Cornett, 2007).
One of the steps involves the application of off balance sheet(OBS) activities. OBS refers to the
properties of the FI which are considered assets, but which do not feature in the balance sheets and
thus are not used in balancing the ledger (at most, they may appear at the bottom of the balance
sheet). OBSs are extremely useful since they often assist in leveraging the commercial banks in
times of crisis, especially when the financial markets are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The operations also include future contracts, structured in such a way so as to execute organized
exchanges that involve payment for assets at a later date (Saunder Cornett, 2016). Finally, the OBS
items include commitments, guarantees, and other derivative financial instruments that sometimes
serve as significant sources of revenue for the commercial banks (Papanikolaou Wolff, 2014).
Furthermore, an off balance sheet item can move onto the balance sheet after the agreed conditions
are met. For instance, when the accepted obligations are met by the parties involved in the
transaction, the OBS assets transform into the balance sheet assets, hence moved accordingly
(BuДЌkovГЎ, 2012). The future contracts are therefore terminated, valid from the moment when
the pre requisite conditions are met. In most cases, the OBS items are joined to the credit risks.
More importantly, the derivative instruments are introduced into the balance sheet in their real
values, but reflected in the OBS in their nominal values (BuДЌkovГЎ, 2012).
Finally, it is vital to assess the risk of the particular OBS item before implementing it. Nevertheless,
an accurate evaluation of any OBS activity and its risk implications is an extremely difficult
process since every separate OBS item possesses complex contingent claim

Summary Of Mother To Son By Langston Hughes
Stevie Wonder, whom was an American musician, once said, Mama was a great teacher, a
teacher of compassion, love, and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that
sweet flower of love. This quote by Stevie Wonder helps us understand the fact that mothers try, in
the best ways, to see you succeed by teaching from the mother s perspective and the experiences
she has been through to get you to see the world in a different way. Just like the quote, in Mother to
Sonwe also see the emphasis on the teachings or life lessons of a mother and how the mother tries
to make the son understand by teaching him that success is something you have to work for, just
like the mother had to and still has to do in her life. In Langston HughesMother to Son the poem
portrays a mother who informs her son about the life she has lived along with the difficulties that
she encountered and has overcame, hence the fact that she is telling her son. The mother explains
to her son that despite the difficulties and challenges that come to you and are ahead of you in life,
you must not give up because motivation and determination will push you through life, which is
what becomes the overall theme of this poem. Langston Hughes first method to clearly display the
theme of perseverance is through the use of an extended metaphor within the whole poem. The
constantly acknowledged metaphor throughout this poem is the comparison of the mother s life to
a set of crystal stairs. In the poem the mother says Life for me ain t been no crystal stair, this
metaphor is to portray that the mother s life hasn t been easy going and beautiful like a set of
crystal stairs would be. Furthermore, it helps us get a clear image that the mother s life has been
filled with ups and downs. The mother is portrayed to have had a rough life, but as the reader
continues to read the poem we see that she pushes through these hard times and does not give up to
prove that determination will get you far; which we see when she says For I se still goin , honey, I
se still climbin which is the continuation of her prospering. Furthermore, Langston Hughes
incorporated imagery and diction into this poem to get his audience to visualize the

2010 Nevada Vacuum Case Study
The 2010 Nevada referendum, commonly known as question 1, would change the way judicial
elections are held in this state. Under this proposed constitutional amendment, a Commission on
Judicial Selection would be created with the task of recommending candidates to the governor for
the appointment of open judicial seats. After the governor appoints the candidate to that position,
that candidate would have to run for a retention electionin two years. If the candidate receives more
than 55% of the vote, then that individual would then serve the remainder of the 6 years term with
the possibility of running for another retention election assuming the candidate seeks a second term.
One of the reasons that may explain why this ballot initiative was

The Pros And Cons Of Clean Coal
Clean coal is proposed as being an emission cleaner form of regular coal, because it reduces the
amount of sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxide that is produced by burning coal. It does this by
removing impurities from the coal that are contributing to the higher emissions within regular coal,
which is created through clean coaltechnology .
Clean coal is obtained just like regular coal through either mining it or by mountaintop removal.
A technique called coal washing is used to remove impurities, such as sulfur and other unwanted
minerals, by washing them in a liquid to remove them. ( MCHM: 4 methylcyclohexane methanol)

Big Data And Cloud Solutions Essay
Big Data and Cloud Solutions Organizations have accumulated lots of data throughout the years
and realized how they could use it for their benefit; this is where Big Data emerged. It has
become a way for organizations to analyze data and use it to their advantage. The purpose of this
paper is to provide an introduction to what Big Data is, its relationship to cloud computing and
its architectural options like: streaming processing, big data storage, application hosting, big
data analytics, machine learning, data import, and data sources. A comparison of four big data
/cloud computing solutions with a detailed matrix, is also provided in order to determine a
recommendation of which solution is the best. Big Data Big Data can be understood and
defined in different ways. In simple terms, Big Data is a collection of data from several sources
like: traditional and digital from inside and outside of an organization that represents a source for
ongoing analysis and discovery. It is a term applied to massive quantity of data that organizations
can collect from their operation and that cannot be easily managed by traditional database
systems (Colorado State University Global Campus, 2016, p.1). It s also important to understand
that Big Data can be a mix of unstructured and structured data. Dumbill (2012, para. 2) states, Big
Data has become viable as cost effective approaches have emerged to tame Big Data s three V s of
massive data. The three V s are: 1.Volume huge amount of

Generation of electricity:
Nuclear Energy
A report for Zebra Tech
Abstract
This report reviews energy sources of the world traditionally used to generate electricity, namely
renewable and non renewable sources, giving a brief overview of each of the 6 methods and how
they generate electricity, and evaluates the suitability of each by weighing up their advantages and
disadvantages. It introduces nuclear energy and gives a detailed description of the setup and process
whereby electricity is produced from nuclear energy. By weighing up a broad spectrum of
advantages and disadvantages of using nuclear energy, specifically various costs, risks and
efficiency, in comparison to traditional generation methods, the report determines that nuclear
energy is indeed suitable to use throughout the world.

There are numerous energy sources used worldwide, both renewable and non renewable. The
following are the most common.
2.1. Renewable energy
2.1.1. Wind energy
A popular renewable energy source is wind energy, used globally. Kinetic energy in the form of
wind turns large turbines, which the convert this energy into mechanical energy, or electricity, as it
supplies an electric generator, producing an electric current. As the wind turns the blades of the
turbine, a shaft connected to a generator is consequently spun, resulting in the production of

Schlieffen Pl War Against France And Russia
The Schlieffen Plan was the German s plan for war against France and Russia. It was created by
Alfred von Schlieffen who was the German Chief of Staff in 1903 on the request of Kaiser
Wilhelm II and it was later revised in 1905. The reason it was made was because Germany s
unification came later than other European states. So the Kaiser sought out Schlieffen and directed
him to devise a plan that would allow Germanyto gain power and assert itself as a dominant state.
Since France and Russia were in an alliance Germany was not able to just attack one country.
They would be forced to fight both countries in a two front war. Schlieffen concluded that it would
take Russia six weeks to mobilize while France and Germany could both be prepared for battle
within fifteen days.
Schlieffen believed that if France could be conquered in that short of a time period that German
troops could then be moved to a new front against Russia. If Germany had a quick victory over
France it would allow them to have sequential fighting and not simultaneous fighting. To accelerate
the transfer of troops between future fronts Schlieffen advised the Kaiser to build railroads. After
figuring out what to do with France and Russia Schlieffen focused on Great Britain s role in any
European conflict. The British had a strong navy but their land forces posed virtually no threat to ...

Work Study In Construction Essay
1.1 General
Construction labour productivity has become big problem in construction industry. In many
countries, labour cost comprises 30 to 50% of the overall project s cost (Yates and Guhathakurta,
1993), and thus is regarded as a true reflection of the economic success. Because construction is
labour intensive industry, significance of this effect not only justifies the concern over its labour
productivity, but it can also be argued that labour power is the only productive resource.
There are many challenges that are faced by construction industry in India, but one of the important
challenges is labour productivity in construction. Every project has some difficulty in construction

Essay On Sonnet 130
William Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 and John Milton s Methought I saw my Late EspousГ©d Saint
are both sonnets that adapt the Petrarchan tradition of the donna angelica. The poems both use the
traditional sonnet structure, use imagery to describe a specific kind of beauty and were both
written in the Early modern period when the Petrarchan tradition was popular. In spite of this, both
Sonnet130 and Methought I Saw My Late EspousГ©d Saint avert from the Petrarchan tradition of
donna angelica with a more women friendly approach. ....
In both Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 and in the Petrarchan tradition of donna angelica women are
described with the help of imagery, but instead of the idealisation found in the Petrarchan tradition,
the comparison s in Sonnet 130 are more reasonable. This shifts away from the misrepresentation of

comparing a female voice to music, to a more commonsensible comparison. He does this by saying

what the speaker is trying to tell his mistress throughout the poem. That unlike the false and over

false compare (l.14) concludes that the whole poem has been a donna angelica mockery.

Reverend Dimmesdale s Irony
The Scarlet Letter is set in the mid 1800 s, a time of strong religious values where adultery was
considered one of the most horrendous sins one could commit. The novel takes place in the
Massachusetts Bay Colony; a community with deeply rooted religious morals. This setting that
Nathaniel Hawthorne chose heightens the severity of the wrongdoing that Hester, the novel s
protagonist, perpetrates. Reverend Dimmesdale, a church figure who is widely respected
throughout the community, commits the exact same crime as Hester, however the two handled
their situations very differently. By examining the two character s mental states, it becomes evident
that Hawthorne is demonstrating the theme of how taking responsibility for one s sins enables that...

While Hester stands in front of the townspeople, he dramatically pleads with her to speak out the
name of thy fellow sinner and fellow sufferer! (Hawthorne, 65). Obviously, Hawthorne designs this
to be a thoroughly ironic situation. Not only is it odd that the reverend, of all people, would
commit adultery; but it is ironic that he would pressure Hester so heavily to essentially expose
him. From this point in the novel on, Dimmesdale is engaged in a constant internal struggle with
himself; he can t bring himself to admit the truth, yet he suffers an intense sense of guilt for staying
quiet. As if the internal conflict with himself wasn t difficult enough, Dimmesdale must work
through his guilt while Hester s ex husband, Roger Chillingworth seeks vengeance. The returned
sailor is determined to see him tremble... Let him hide himself in outward honor, if he may! Not
the less he shall be mine! (Hawthorne, 73). Meanwhile, Dimmesdale doesn t even know who this
man is. Chillingworth plays mind games with Dimmesdale. For example, Dimmesdale asks
Chillingworth where he found an herb one day. Chillingworth ominously replied They grew out of

which he had done better to confess during his lifetime (Hawthorne, 127). Whether Dimmesdale

The Hindu Temple Of Atlanta
A Hindu temple contains a very different religious experience compared to what I ve previously
experienced in the past. Perhaps the most obvious difference comes from just how individual it
can be compared to a group service for example. While there is a portion of the service that is led
by a priest for the vast majority of your stay the experience is really upon you and you alone.
While there are traditions to follow it s still a unique experience. During my attendance at the
Hindu temple of Atlanta I almost assuredly didn t follow all of the customs and traditions but
nevertheless, did my best to at least not offend my hosts. The experience was alien compared to

The setup of this temple was similar to the other with deities lining the outer perimeter. In this

were placed to the right and the left of entry way to this sanctum and the priest was ritually
chanting something. After a time he began ritually feeding the deity by offering a small amount
of liquid before it s mouth before pouring it into a basin above. He then takes a flame and spins it
around multiple times. The priest then took a flame to each follower to hold their hands around.
He then takes the liquid from early and offers it to assembled people. They each take a sip of the
liquid then splash the remainder over their heads. The priest then takes a large ornate metal hat
and places it on each followers head. Then, fruit was given to each follower there some of children

Key Characteristics Of Data Warehouse By William H. Immon
Data warehouse does not mean just place for store data or save historical record of data, the
form of multi data source can be deceptive. Because, you can control of how big of data
warehouse will be. Data warehouse was founded by William H. Immon and he defines it as
subject oriented, integrated, nonvolatile, time variant collection of data organized to support
management needs The major of subjects is arranged in data warehouse. For example,
inventory, products and customer, to get more benefits form data warehouse it must be
integrated by collecting from databases across enterprises, the information for customers should
have code or described specifically according to departments. All departments the procedures on
database are updated on a regular basis with deletion, insertion and changes. The operations that
only be in data warehouse the data can be loaded and the data can be accessed. Once whole data
forms and models are recorded, the data can not change. The design of retrospective data
warehousing is traditional, and many questions before starting design to be work as required.
What we sale? What will be the importance of our debt in the next six months? Where is the best
market for a new service? A data warehouse in the World Wide Web is a predictable to save

characteristics of data warehouse There are many characteristics of data warehouse that gives
advantages to establish it to get benefits. For example, data warehouse can save long amount of
historical data, end users are time sensitive, queries often retrieve large amount of data, the data
can load multiple sources and transformation and data warehouse can improve access to data and
enhance quality of data, I will write broadly about this feature for data warehouse which is
enhancing quality of data. Companies and other organizations always use multiple factors and
guide the data warehousing manager allowing resources by identifying data quality improvements
which increases value to the users of data, sometimes data warehousing efforts does not get success

Delicious Sugar Cookies Research Paper
One of my favorite Christmas memories from when I was a kid is that my family would make
delicious sugar cookies at my grandma s house. She d make the dough the night before and the
next day my brother and I would turn into flour covered sugar fiends as we rolled the dough out,
pressed holiday shapes into and prepared crazy frosting colors to smear on each cookie after they
finished baking.
During the process of turning her clean kitchen into a cookie covered mess, I loved to sneak
pinches of the dough to eat raw. Thinking about the sweet, somewhat gritty textured deliciousness
is enough to make my mouth water even now. Since the recipe called for raw eggs in the dough,
my mom feared I d get salmonella from eating it and tried to keep a watchful

The Transformation Of American Law Essay
Horwitz, in The Transformation of American Law: 1780 1860, argues that a commercial elite class
worked with judges during the antebellum period to shift American law doctrine from anti
commercial to pro commercial doctrines. These new doctrines benefitted the commercial elites and
forced America to adopt capitalism over the original moral economy that was in place prior to the
beginning shift in American law in the 1780 s. Horwitz breaks the book up into eight distinct
chapters, focusing on the changing conception of law, a new conception of property, creating
economic growth through the legal system itself, competition and economic development, the
relationship between the bar and commercial interests, the emergence of contracts, the development
of commercial law, and the rise of legal formalism. The first chapter details the changing concepts of
American law in that instrumentalism became popular. Horwitz shows that judges move away
from following precedent around the turn of the century and instead were focusing on their own
interpretations of the law. This is shown through judges issuing new trials on account of juries
issuing verdicts that they believed did not fit with the evidence provided in the trials (29). Juries
during this time were increasingly side lined during the trial process. The second chapter has
Horwitz looking back to the agrarian economy and the doctrines surrounding property, detailing
how these doctrines shifted to an understanding of

Insanity Defense Essay
Insanity is defined as a mental disorder of such severity as to render its victim incapable of
managing his affairs or conforming to social standards. (Insanity, pg. 1) It is used in court to state
that the defendant was not aware of what he/she was doing at the time of the crime, due to mental
illnesses. But insanityis a legal, not a medical, definition. There is a difference between mental
illness and going insane. Many problems are raised by the existence of the insanity defense. For
example, determining the patient s true mental illness (whether they are faking or not), placement
of the mentally ill after trial, the credibility of the psychological experts, the percentage of cases
that are actually successful,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This rule focuses on cognition, which alone is not enough to determine whether someone is
mentally disabled. The M Naghten rule remained the definition of the insanity defense up until
1954.
When the Durham case arose the insanity test was changed. Judge David Baezelon stated that, an
accused is not criminally responsible if his unlawful act was the product of mental disease or
mental defect. (Mental Health Law and the US Judicial System, pg 4) This was the foundation for
the new insanity test. Baezelon worked with psychologists and psychiatrists in developing the new
test and in 1962 the Durham Rule was founded. It was said to be better than the M Naghten rule in
that it included both cognition and volitional impairment. The M Naghten rule didn t include
volitional impairment, which is an irresistible impulse while cognition impairment is not
understanding the quality of the act. The federal courts eventually rejected the Durham rule
because its definition was too broad. Alcoholics, compulsive gamblers and drug addicts had
successfully used the defense to defeat a wide variety of crimes.
In 1972, the American Law Institute (a panel of legal experts) developed a new rule for insanity
as part of the Model Penal Code. This rule says that a defendant is not responsible

Theme Of Feudal Class In The Canterbury Tales
Now I have told you shortly, in a clause,/ The rank, the array, the number and the cause/ Of our
assembly in this company (lines 711 14). Geoffrey Chaucer explains to his readers that he has
given a full description of each of his fellow pilgrims in his General Prologue to The Canterbury
Tales. Along with naming each character, he provides their profession which classifies each
pilgrim into one of three social classes: the religious class, the merchant class, or feudal order.
Chaucer provides a social commentary of the major social classes of his day, and though he
criticizes characters from each class, he most heavily criticizes the religious class more than any
other. Geoffrey Chaucer, author of The Canterbury Tales, is in favor of

The last character Chaucer describes in the feudal class is the Miller, a large and imposing man.
The physical description of him given includes, His beard, like any sow or fox, was red... (138).
The color red suggests that the Miller may be a Scotsman, the British and Scottish historically
disliked each other, perhaps extending to Chaucer. Furthermore, Chaucer stated that the Miller
was ... a master hand at stealing grain. He felt it with his thumb and thus he knew its quality and
took three times his due... (138). Clearly, the Miller is portrayed as a thief who takes what he
wants and is not above violence to achieve his goals. While everyone but the Miller are admired
in the feudal class, the people in the merchant class are both admired and criticized leaving
Chaucer s feeling to be neutral to the merchant class. Throughout Chaucer s Canterbury tales, he
describes the merchant class as more of neutral type of people, some are admired while others are
criticized. The author uses his personal knowledge to better explain his thoughts about the
characters who belong to the merchant class. The first one he mentions from the merchant class is
the Merchant, he is described as sitting high on his horse as well as making it to where none knew
that he was bad in debt. The narrator states that he does not care much about him, enough so that he
does not know his name. The next character Chaucer mentions is the

Thread And Balance By Timothy Tapestry
Thread and Balance
In a small town many years ago, the Tapestry family walked to work enjoying the simple
pleasures that the morning offered. Timothy Tapestry was a tall man with blond hair and a
subdued face. He had lived in this town his whole life, and just like any other morning, he gazed
happily at the hills in the distance. Ever since he was young, Timothy had marveled at how the sun
lit up those hills in the morning, and since he was a creature of habit, he did the same today.
Past his thoughts, and in a world of her own, Adeline Tapestry walked with her husband to work.

Even as they said yes, a cloud of doubt covered their hearts, because they knew full well that three
days was not enough time to make these items. However, they had already agreed to the task. So
they took the slip of paper containing the king and queen s measurements.
With these deadlines in mind, the king began. We bid you farewell. He then raised his hand to
wave goodbye, and the royal parade began to leave. A mixture of joy and anxiety rushed through
Timothy and Adeline as the king and queen left. For although the Tapestrys were well known for
their quality products, it always took them a while to actually fabricate their orders. They would
have to work quickly, and precisely to overcome their time constraints.
Once the crowd had finally dispersed, the Tapestrys let themselves into their shop. It was a homey
place that told comforting stories through its exposed beams, and crackling fireplace. Immediately
they began to pull out different fabrics, and patterns trying to decide what would best suit King
Leonardo, and his wife Queen Alisha. Ideas were shared and compromises made, so that in the end
it was decided that Timothy would make the king s coat, while Adeline would make the queens.
While sewing, they would use different satin fabrics that had pastel colors to subtly speak of

How Has The Motion Picture Changed Everything
The Motion Picture changed everything. The very first movies were rather basic, showing
everyday routines such as the arrival of a train or female workers leaving a factory. The very
first action film was The Great Train Robbery (1905) which had a simple yet thrilling plot about
cowboy bandits and their attempt to steal money from a moving train. Then several Westerns
adapted the same basic plot, and some even moved it further. In the 1930 s the Noir and Gangster
movies such as Little Caesar (1931), Scarface (1932), and The public Enemy (1931) became
immensely popular, and these films normally had a rather violent story, many of them were
inspired by real gangsters. Then Came the forties and the fifties, which were mostly passive eras on

The Pharaohs Of The 18th Dynasty
Since the first Ancient Egyptian, Pharaoh Menes, placed himself on the throne, the pharaohs were
considered to be both divine deities as well as mortal rulers. The Merriam Webster dictionary
defines prophet as a member of some religion who delivers messages that are believed to have
come from God Did that make Pharaoh Amenhotep IV aka Akhenatena prophet? Defying centuries
of traditional worship of the Egyptians, the mid 14th century BCE Pharaoh Akhenaten decreed
during his reign that his subjects were to worship only one god; the sun disk Aten. Was this a
direct message from the gods or were there other political reasons at play. The pharaohs of the 18th
dynasty 1550 1307 BCE had expanded Egypt s wealth; conquering Palestine, Syria, plus securing
the gold mines of Nubia, which made her the wealthiest country in the world. With 2,000 years of
experience behind her, Egyptian forces were able to push back the Hittites, Libyans, and other tribes
who stood in the way of their development. Amongst the progression was Amun, a major Egyptian
deity, who after the rebellion of Thebes against the Hyksos, became heightened after his fusion with
the Sun god, Ra, as Amun Re. In gratitude for their successes, the pharaohs offered treasures to the
god Amun Ra, increasing the wealth and influence of the priesthood. The deity acquired national
importance that alarmed Amenhotep III and his son Amenhotep IV due to the escalating powers of
the priests of Amun. The Karnak Amun Ra

David Essay
David, who was destined to be the second king of Israel, destroyed the Philistine giant Goliath with
stone and a sling. Donatello, Verrocchio, Michelangelo, and Bernini each designed a sculpture of
David. However, the sculptures are drastically different from one another. Each one is unique in its
own certain way.
Donatello, whose David was the first life size nude statue since Classical times, struck a balance
between Classicism and the realism by presenting a very real image of an Italian peasant boy in the
form of a Classical nude figure. Although Donatello was inspired by classical figures, he did not
choose a Greek youth in his prime as a model for his David. Instead, he chooses a barely developed
adolescent boy whose arms appeared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Donatello balanced realistic elements with an idealized Classically inspired torso whereas
Verrocchio s goal was absolutely realism in minutedetails. The sculptures also differ in terms of
technique. Donatello s David is mainly a closed form sculpture. The objects and limbs are centered
around an S curve stance, which balanced his human form. Verrocchio s sculpture is more open.
For example, the bared sword and elbow are sticking out, away from the central core.
quot;Donatello s graceful pose had been replaced in the Verrocchio, by a jaunty contrapposto that
enhances David s image of self confidence quot; (Fichner Rathus 334).
Michelangelo was yet another artist who sculpted David. His reputation as a sculptor was
established when he carved his David at the edge of twenty seven from a single piece of
relatively unworkable marble. Unlike the David s of Donatello and Verrocchio, Michelangelo s
David is not shown after conquering his enemy. Instead, he is portrayed as a quot;most beautiful
animal preparing to kill not by savagery and brute force, but by intellect and skill quot; (Fichner
Rathus 345). Cast over his shoulder is David s sling, and the stone is clutched in his right hand, his
veins in chief anticipation of the fight. Michelangelo s David depicts the ideal youth who has just

How has the rise of social media technologies affected political stabilities in the Middle East?
Background of the study
Middle East countries have been faced by a challenge where leaders lock information. Locking
information has resulted to limitation on the flow of information inside Middle East and to the
external world. Out of this challenge, democracy in the Middle East has been suppressed and
citizens left to suffer. Leaders refuse to listen to the people they rule and dictatorship followed
course. This reached to a situation whereby citizens organize themselves with an objective to

Secrets In Romeo And Juliet Essay
Everyone has their own secrets, no matter who you are, or what you do. Secrets sometimes are
good to have. Some things people have to keep to themselves. In the play Romeo and Juliet By

Endothormic And Exothermic Reactions In Chemistry
When lighting a candle, one does not ruminate about how the candle flame is an exothermic
process. In actuality, there are endothermic and exothermic reactions happening all around at
various times. Before proceeding, one should know that exothermic reactions are ones in which
energy is released. They can be discerned by reaction giving off heat, such as the example of the
candle flame expelling vapor. Endothermic reactions are reactions where energy is absorbed. One
can detect an endothermic reaction by, for example, touching a beaker in which a reaction occurs
that becomes cool. The changes in temperature, both endothermic and exothermic, lead to the idea
of enthalpy. This is defined as the difference between the potential energies of products from
reactants, and is shown as О”H. When a reaction produces heat the value for enthalpy will be
negative, and when it s absorbed it will be positive. The relationship of the transfer of heat between
the system and surroundings can be used to determine the enthalpy change reaction by using the
equation q=mCО”T. This can be accurately measured by using the process of Calorimetry. This is
a method to measure heat by observing the temperature change when a body absorbs or discharges
energy as heat. It is useful since it insulates the reaction, and the only measurable change will
originate from the water in the reaction. The spontaneity of a reaction depends on the values for
enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs free energy. Entropy is the

Essay about The Persecution of the Hollywood Ten Hollywood Ten For my arcival project I chose to research the Hollywood Ten, I chose this because I am fascinated by the events of that occurred around this time and group. The Hollywood Ten was a group of writers, directors, and other artists who bravely refused to answer questions in front of the House of Un American Activities and were therefore sentenced to jail time and banned from working in Hollywood. The actions of that the House of Un American Activities and the resistance of the Hollywood Ten raised attention and a debate across the country about the actions that the government was taking against Hollywood artists. The House of Un American Activities Committee was a government committee which set out to investigate alleged... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I find it interesting that so many people were swayed by what they were being told by the government. I have the impression that American are very gullible and naГЇve. There had to be more to what they were doing to convince Americans that Hollywood was friendly with Communists and poisoning them with their movies. When I think of Americans today, many of them raise an eyebrow to what the government is telling them. They will also often times do the exact opposite of what the government is asking them to do. When Mike Bloomberg suggested making it illegal for restaurants to sell extra large sodas, many people that I know went crazy and would deliberately get extra large sodas. These people didn t necessarily like soda or need one of that size and most definitely knew that it was not good for them; however they didn t like the fact that someone from the government was telling them what they could and could not drink. These people felt that their rights were being violated. This is how I view most Americans today, they are stubborn and are very protective of their rights. Which is why I find it hard to believe that people actually bought into the idea that Hollywood was poisoning them with Communist ideas and were in cahoots with Russia? My first experience at the New York ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Is The Main Idea Of Race Talk Although the primary utilization of this book is centered on the psychological aspects of racial dialogues viz. race talk, it also exposes the irrational fears, attitudes, and beliefs, inherent in our (The United States) society. It is about the persistent avoidance of honest dialogues on race that may uncover the true inequalities and injustices inflicted on people of color. What talking about race does is open the dialogue and allow a view of the lived experience of those who suffer from oppression. It potentially grasps these experiences and presents the possibility of moving the reader from a perceived nonracist being into the realm of antiracism. From the nonracist point of view, one can be silent on the topic of race and hold firm ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Kudler Fine Food s Financial Position Kudler CEO Financial Memo The liquidity, profitability, and solvency ratios reveal some interesting points about Kudler Fine Food s financial position. The liquidity ratios revealed that during 2002 and 2003, Kudler was having no trouble paying short term debt. However, the current and acid test (quick) ratios showed that during 2003 Kudler had an excess amount of cash that they were not investing properly. These ratios also showed that Kudler was collecting receivables and selling average inventory very quickly. The profitability ratios revealed that during 2002 and 2003, Kudler was using assets efficiently and making a decent profit. The profit margin ratio showed that during 2002 Kudler made a profit of four cents per dollar, and during 2003 they made a profit of roughly six cents per dollar. In addition, the return on assets ratio (which is also a profitability ratio) showed that Kudler utilized their assets efficiently enough to turn a profit. The solvency ratio used, which was the debt to total assets ratio, showed that during 2002 and 2003 Kudler only had around a quarter of their assets financed in debt. All of these ratios show that Kudler was a fairly strong company financially during 2002 and 2003. When trying to figure out how successful Kudler Fine Foods is, it is critical to review all financial statements. By using the horizontal and vertical analysis and the determining ratio calculations the profitability, liquidity, and solvency are figured. A specific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In particular, the assessment of the risks is necessary to make the appropriate steps to maintain the solvency of FIs (Saunders Cornett, 2007). One of the steps involves the application of off balance sheet(OBS) activities. OBS refers to the properties of the FI which are considered assets, but which do not feature in the balance sheets and thus are not used in balancing the ledger (at most, they may appear at the bottom of the balance sheet). The operations also include future contracts, structured in such a way so as to execute organized exchanges that involve payment for assets at a later date (Saunder Cornett, 2016). Finally, the OBS items include commitments, guarantees, and other derivative financial instruments that sometimes serve as significant sources of revenue for the commercial banks (Papanikolaou Wolff, 2014). Furthermore, an off balance sheet item can move onto the balance sheet after the agreed conditions are met. For instance, when the accepted obligations are met by the parties involved in the transaction, the OBS assets transform into the balance sheet assets, hence moved accordingly (BuДЌkovГЎ, 2012). The future contracts are therefore terminated, valid from the moment when the pre requisite conditions are met. In most cases, the OBS items are joined to the credit risks. More importantly, the derivative instruments are introduced into the balance sheet in their real values, but reflected in the OBS in their nominal values (BuДЌkovГЎ, 2012). Finally, it is vital to assess the risk of the particular OBS item before implementing it. Nevertheless, an accurate evaluation of any OBS activity and its risk implications is an extremely difficult process since every separate OBS item possesses complex contingent claim ... • 6. Summary Of Mother To Son By Langston Hughes Stevie Wonder, whom was an American musician, once said, Mama was a great teacher, a teacher of compassion, love, and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love. This quote by Stevie Wonder helps us understand the fact that mothers try, in the best ways, to see you succeed by teaching from the mother s perspective and the experiences she has been through to get you to see the world in a different way. Just like the quote, in Mother to Sonwe also see the emphasis on the teachings or life lessons of a mother and how the mother tries to make the son understand by teaching him that success is something you have to work for, just like the mother had to and still has to do in her life. In Langston HughesMother to Son the poem portrays a mother who informs her son about the life she has lived along with the difficulties that she encountered and has overcame, hence the fact that she is telling her son. The mother explains to her son that despite the difficulties and challenges that come to you and are ahead of you in life, you must not give up because motivation and determination will push you through life, which is what becomes the overall theme of this poem. Langston Hughes first method to clearly display the theme of perseverance is through the use of an extended metaphor within the whole poem. The constantly acknowledged metaphor throughout this poem is the comparison of the mother s life to a set of crystal stairs. In the poem the mother says Life for me ain t been no crystal stair, this metaphor is to portray that the mother s life hasn t been easy going and beautiful like a set of crystal stairs would be. Furthermore, it helps us get a clear image that the mother s life has been filled with ups and downs. The mother is portrayed to have had a rough life, but as the reader continues to read the poem we see that she pushes through these hard times and does not give up to prove that determination will get you far; which we see when she says For I se still goin , honey, I se still climbin which is the continuation of her prospering. Furthermore, Langston Hughes incorporated imagery and diction into this poem to get his audience to visualize the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Schlieffen Pl War Against France And Russia The Schlieffen Plan was the German s plan for war against France and Russia. It was created by Alfred von Schlieffen who was the German Chief of Staff in 1903 on the request of Kaiser Wilhelm II and it was later revised in 1905. The reason it was made was because Germany s unification came later than other European states. So the Kaiser sought out Schlieffen and directed him to devise a plan that would allow Germanyto gain power and assert itself as a dominant state. Since France and Russia were in an alliance Germany was not able to just attack one country. They would be forced to fight both countries in a two front war. Schlieffen concluded that it would take Russia six weeks to mobilize while France and Germany could both be prepared for battle within fifteen days. Schlieffen believed that if France could be conquered in that short of a time period that German troops could then be moved to a new front against Russia. If Germany had a quick victory over France it would allow them to have sequential fighting and not simultaneous fighting. To accelerate the transfer of troops between future fronts Schlieffen advised the Kaiser to build railroads. • 26. The Transformation Of American Law Essay Horwitz, in The Transformation of American Law: 1780 1860, argues that a commercial elite class worked with judges during the antebellum period to shift American law doctrine from anti commercial to pro commercial doctrines. These new doctrines benefitted the commercial elites and forced America to adopt capitalism over the original moral economy that was in place prior to the beginning shift in American law in the 1780 s. Horwitz breaks the book up into eight distinct chapters, focusing on the changing conception of law, a new conception of property, creating economic growth through the legal system itself, competition and economic development, the relationship between the bar and commercial interests, the emergence of contracts, the development of commercial law, and the rise of legal formalism. The first chapter details the changing concepts of American law in that instrumentalism became popular. Horwitz shows that judges move away from following precedent around the turn of the century and instead were focusing on their own interpretations of the law. This is shown through judges issuing new trials on account of juries issuing verdicts that they believed did not fit with the evidence provided in the trials (29). Juries during this time were increasingly side lined during the trial process. The second chapter has Horwitz looking back to the agrarian economy and the doctrines surrounding property, detailing how these doctrines shifted to an understanding of ... • 29. Insanity Defense Essay Insanity is defined as a mental disorder of such severity as to render its victim incapable of managing his affairs or conforming to social standards. (Insanity, pg. 1) It is used in court to state that the defendant was not aware of what he/she was doing at the time of the crime, due to mental illnesses. But insanityis a legal, not a medical, definition. There is a difference between mental illness and going insane. Many problems are raised by the existence of the insanity defense. For example, determining the patient s true mental illness (whether they are faking or not), placement of the mentally ill after trial, the credibility of the psychological experts, the percentage of cases that are actually successful,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This rule focuses on cognition, which alone is not enough to determine whether someone is mentally disabled. The M Naghten rule remained the definition of the insanity defense up until 1954. When the Durham case arose the insanity test was changed. Judge David Baezelon stated that, an accused is not criminally responsible if his unlawful act was the product of mental disease or mental defect. (Mental Health Law and the US Judicial System, pg 4) This was the foundation for the new insanity test. Baezelon worked with psychologists and psychiatrists in developing the new test and in 1962 the Durham Rule was founded. It was said to be better than the M Naghten rule in that it included both cognition and volitional impairment. The M Naghten rule didn t include volitional impairment, which is an irresistible impulse while cognition impairment is not understanding the quality of the act. The federal courts eventually rejected the Durham rule because its definition was too broad. Alcoholics, compulsive gamblers and drug addicts had successfully used the defense to defeat a wide variety of crimes. In 1972, the American Law Institute (a panel of legal experts) developed a new rule for insanity as part of the Model Penal Code. This rule says that a defendant is not responsible ... Geoffrey Chaucer explains to his readers that he has given a full description of each of his fellow pilgrims in his General Prologue to The Canterbury Tales. Along with naming each character, he provides their profession which classifies each pilgrim into one of three social classes: the religious class, the merchant class, or feudal order. Chaucer provides a social commentary of the major social classes of his day, and though he criticizes characters from each class, he most heavily criticizes the religious class more than any other. Furthermore, Chaucer stated that the Miller was ... a master hand at stealing grain. He felt it with his thumb and thus he knew its quality and took three times his due... (138). Clearly, the Miller is portrayed as a thief who takes what he wants and is not above violence to achieve his goals. While everyone but the Miller are admired in the feudal class, the people in the merchant class are both admired and criticized leaving Chaucer s feeling to be neutral to the merchant class. Throughout Chaucer s Canterbury tales, he describes the merchant class as more of neutral type of people, some are admired while others are criticized. The author uses his personal knowledge to better explain his thoughts about the characters who belong to the merchant class. The first one he mentions from the merchant class is the Merchant, he is described as sitting high on his horse as well as making it to where none knew that he was bad in debt. The narrator states that he does not care much about him, enough so that he does not know his name. The next character Chaucer mentions is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Timothy Tapestry was a tall man with blond hair and a subdued face. He had lived in this town his whole life, and just like any other morning, he gazed happily at the hills in the distance. Ever since he was young, Timothy had marveled at how the sun lit up those hills in the morning, and since he was a creature of habit, he did the same today. The Pharaohs Of The 18th Dynasty Since the first Ancient Egyptian, Pharaoh Menes, placed himself on the throne, the pharaohs were considered to be both divine deities as well as mortal rulers. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines prophet as a member of some religion who delivers messages that are believed to have come from God Did that make Pharaoh Amenhotep IV aka Akhenatena prophet? Defying centuries of traditional worship of the Egyptians, the mid 14th century BCE Pharaoh Akhenaten decreed during his reign that his subjects were to worship only one god; the sun disk Aten. Was this a direct message from the gods or were there other political reasons at play. The pharaohs of the 18th dynasty 1550 1307 BCE had expanded Egypt s wealth; conquering Palestine, Syria, plus securing the gold mines of Nubia, which made her the wealthiest country in the world. With 2,000 years of experience behind her, Egyptian forces were able to push back the Hittites, Libyans, and other tribes who stood in the way of their development. Amongst the progression was Amun, a major Egyptian deity, who after the rebellion of Thebes against the Hyksos, became heightened after his fusion with the Sun god, Ra, as Amun Re. Donatello, Verrocchio, Michelangelo, and Bernini each designed a sculpture of David. However, the sculptures are drastically different from one another. Each one is unique in its own certain way. Donatello, whose David was the first life size nude statue since Classical times, struck a balance between Classicism and the realism by presenting a very real image of an Italian peasant boy in the form of a Classical nude figure. For example, the bared sword and elbow are sticking out, away from the central core. quot;Donatello s graceful pose had been replaced in the Verrocchio, by a jaunty contrapposto that enhances David s image of self confidence quot; (Fichner Rathus 334). His reputation as a sculptor was established when he carved his David at the edge of twenty seven from a single piece of relatively unworkable marble. • 40. Endothormic And Exothermic Reactions In Chemistry When lighting a candle, one does not ruminate about how the candle flame is an exothermic process. In actuality, there are endothermic and exothermic reactions happening all around at various times. Before proceeding, one should know that exothermic reactions are ones in which energy is released. They can be discerned by reaction giving off heat, such as the example of the candle flame expelling vapor. Endothermic reactions are reactions where energy is absorbed. One can detect an endothermic reaction by, for example, touching a beaker in which a reaction occurs that becomes cool. The changes in temperature, both endothermic and exothermic, lead to the idea of enthalpy. This is defined as the difference between the potential energies of products from reactants, and is shown as О”H. When a reaction produces heat the value for enthalpy will be negative, and when it s absorbed it will be positive. The relationship of the transfer of heat between the system and surroundings can be used to determine the enthalpy change reaction by using the equation q=mCО”T. This can be accurately measured by using the process of Calorimetry. This is a method to measure heat by observing the temperature change when a body absorbs or discharges energy as heat. It is useful since it insulates the reaction, and the only measurable change will originate from the water in the reaction. The spontaneity of a reaction depends on the values for enthalpy, entropy, and Gibbs free energy. Entropy is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Pentecostalism Is One Of The Major Denomination Of... utumn Petrolina Hayes, Andrew Anthropology 130 22 February 2016 Pentecostalism Pentecostalism is one of the major denominations of Protestant Christianity that originated from the Holiness Revival of the 19th century. The Pentecostal Movement began in Topeka, Kansas at Bethel Bible College, established by Charles Parham who taught that speaking in tongues was a spiritual gift that demonstrated as evidence of baptism with the Holy Spirit, a distinct type of baptism experienced in chapter two of the book of Acts on the day of Pentecost. On January 1st of 1901, Agnes Ozman, a student at Bethel Bible School, was the first person to speak in tongues after being baptized with The Holy Spirit. This marks the beginning of the Pentecostal Revival. In 1905, Parham began preaching in Houston, Texas where he began a smaller bible school. According to Kevin Sack, a journalist for The New York Times, an African American pastor named William Seymour would attend Parham s services though he was made to sit outside the room and listen through a cracked door. Parham s teachings of baptism with the Holy Spirit enveloped Seymour, who took this new theology to Los Angeles in 1906 where he temporarily pastored a small African American Holiness Church. The church rejected Seymour s claims on tongues as proof of baptism with The Holy Spirit. The pastor of the church, Julia Hitchins, was outraged by Seymour s sermon and kicked him out of the church.
