Juvenile Incarceration System
Many young children are now being influenced by individuals that can physically and mentally harm
their well being. There are too many young children being seen through the incarceration systems
solely because of the environment that they are raised in. In a study done by Elizbeth Barnert, With 2
million youth arrested annually in the United States and 60,000 detained, justice involved youth
represent a large, high risk, vulnerable population largely hidden from public view (Barnet). This goes
to show that the youth is not being taken care of responsibly or are not being placed into the right
environment. Juvenile incarceration is detrimental to their physical and mental health, these children

Many of these individuals that are being seen in the systems are coming from broken homes or have

Edelman titled The Cradle to Prison Pipeline , states hardened by long terms of incarceration, released
criminalization youngsters return to communities that are ill equipped to reintegrate them positively
(Edelman). Within this case study Edelman creates the vision that one may picture which is that once
a child is released they are immediately vulnerable to return to the environment that they are more
comfortable to them. This proves why the rates for incarcerated youth are so high and that there needs

Overcoming Obstacles In Rocky Balboa s Life
The movie Rocky is based on a boxer who has overcome tough times in his life but works for
everything he has and loves. Sylvester Stallone wrote and produced every Rocky movie and also
played the main character in the films. In almost every Rocky movie, Rocky Balboa faces a big
opponent in the ring. Balboa must train hard and overcome the situation and challenges before the
fight. Balboa then steps in the ring and gives his all for the win. Rocky has inspired me to never give
up and fight for the dreams you set your mind to. Balboa has a different system of training for each
fighter in the movies. In each fight he must study the opponent and attain the skills necessary to
dominate the fight. Throughout training he faces obstacles of doubt and uncertainty on how he could
possibly overcome such an opponent. After being broken down to the feeling he could never train
enough to win this fight he finds his moment that lifts him up and gives him the determination to
overcome. As in life, many of us will face scary challenges that we may doubt and be scared. But, like
balboa we find our path and step up to the plate. We study how to better ourselves and prevail the
challenge we face. Our minds take us to a place that we feel we could never return from, and we must
trust in the process and grasp the moment to punch through it. ... Show more content on

New York City Ads
One of America s greatest achievements have involved the planning and construction of our American
cities. Many of us travel and visit places like San Francisco, New York, Washington D.C., and
Chicago to see the America s architectural accomplishments in person. Monuments, freeways, and
many others, are symbols of our success and we are proud of them. So what happens when our own
pride to be the best becomes our own destruction, according to Diesel company global warming. This
Diesel clothing advertisement is provocative and extreme, displaying a post apocalyptic view of New
York city.
The landscape imagery used in this advertisement is New York city with majority of it being covered
up with miles of ocean water. There are only a few buildings standing tall in this landscape and some
can be easily identified, while others are too far out. The Empire State building and World Trade
Center are the few that are visibly represented in this ad. The clear, blue, and empty sky is the
backdrop of the city. It is clear that the intention of this landscape was to make these buildings clearly
visible, because they are the most significant to Americans and tourists. Also, there appears to be ...

A Whole New Economic Activity Essay
A whole new economic activity has now emerged because of Keggfarms, which till now was a
routine, redundant but a certain source of income even though meagre. The key results could be
underlined as: significant contribution to household income, gender Empowerment, alternate
livelihoods at several points, food security and environmental converter of rubbish into food. The
Govt of India, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, set up a committee headed by a senior
technocrat from NABARD to study the rural poultry scenario with a view to include this sector in the
venture capital fund of the department in the Tenth Five Year Plan. The study revealed that Kuroiler
farming in the traditional style was being extensively practiced in villages with substantial benefits to
rural stakeholders. NABARD presented bankable and venture capital funding for Kuroiler farming
projects in rural areas In 2009, a joint venture of FAO and NDDB (SAPPLPP) studied the impact of
the Keggfarms model of Kuroiler farming in rural India. Results indicated that very substantial
benefits were accruing to rural stakeholders. (Kapur Singh)
Innovation in distribution channel :
The most remarkable innovation by Keggfarms was the invention of a method for physically
distributing the chickens from the hatcheries to the often remote villages, which would require
unconventional methods that provided significant incentives for all of the links in a vast distribution
network that could eventually sell poultry

Hector Berlioz s Symphonie Fantastique
Review: Symphonie Fantastique
Symphonie Fantastique is the first full musical outpouring of romanticism composer, Hector Berlioz.
Hector Berlioz is a French composer, a microcosm of the romantic era. Symphony Fantastique is a
quintessential example of romantic programmatic music. It is a novel, unlike poetry. It is free of
structural form; based on Berlioz being under the influence and remembering of an unattainable
woman. There are five movements; his first tempers his depression, his love and jealousy which then
rage to religious consolation. The second movement is about his encounter with her at ball. The third
movement consists of him seeking peace while wandering in the countryside only to have her disrupt
his peace.
There is a slow introduction; you get a sense of longing in the music suggesting that Berlioz is feeling
sad before he saw his lady friend. The symphony plays a slow introduction in a classical sonata style.
The muted strings play a sort of veiled tune and it fits Berlioz s romantic spirit. The orchestra gives off
a dreamlike condition and the melody provides a sense of loneliness, and despair, a description of how
Berlioz feels. The key it is being played in is C minor.
In the first movement a recurrent theme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the harps introduction, the violins begin to be playing the main melody. There is a simple waltz
tune that plays in the background as the harps and violins play. There is a sense of delicateness and
beauty with the flutes and clarinets playing in the background as well. There s ascending and
descending and the tempo increases. Idèe Fixe is incorporated as soon as Berlioz sees the woman
again and then it slowly fades away because the waltz takes over as she disappears into the crowd. The
music becomes livelier. At the end there is a whirling rush and the movement ends because cause

North East And South Korea
South Korea is one of the fastest growing countries in the world. It is located in Eastern Asia, on the
southern half of the Korean Peninsula bordering the Sea of Japan and the Yellow Sea. It is neighbors
with North Korea to the north, Japan to the east and China to the west. Seoul is the capital and the
second largest metropolitan city in the world. Its total area is 38,462.49 square miles, approximately
the size of Kentucky. South Korea can be divided into four general regions: an eastern region of high
mountain ranges and narrow coastal plains; a western region of broad coastal plains, river basins, and
rolling hills; a southwestern region of mountains and valleys; and a southeastern region dominated by
the broad basin of the Nakdong River. (www.southkoreagovernment.com). In the 7th century three
kingdoms came together to form Korea. In the last 100 years, Korea has been invaded, subjugated and
divided. Today, the country is physically divided, the result of a war between North and South Korea,
which began in 1950 and never ended. The fighting ended in 1953 with an armistice agreement, but a
cease fire agreement still carries on today. In less than 6 decades, South Korea has risen to become an
economic powerhouse in the world. It has hosted an Olympics Games, Co hosted a World Cup and in
2010 became the first Asian nation to host a G20 summit. Professor KyongSoo Lho stated South

Abstract
Transparent conductive films of fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) electrospun on glass substrate were
prepared. These transparent conductive films were prepared at a substrate temperature in the range
350 550 οC. A solution of SnCl2.2H2O in methanol and glacial acetic acid was used as a precursor.
Hydrofluoric acid was added to the precursor solution as a dopant. The films were prepared in one
single step and no further treatment is required. The distance between the spray nozzle and the
substrate was in the range 2 10 cm, the liquid flow rate was in the range 10 50 ml/h, the duration of
electrospinning was in the range 5 50 min and 15 20 kV electrical potential was applied. The prepared
films were characterized by means of XRD, SEM, FTIR and UV VIS spectroscopy. The resistivity
measurements were measured by the four point probe technique. It was found that the films are
transparent in the UV Visible region and was about 70% and high reflective in the infra red region
(99%). XRD pattern indicates that the films exhibit a preferred orientation (110) with grain size about
16 nm. By comparing these results with that obtained by

It s was the heart of the Mexican diaspora, claims Yolanda Chávez Leyva, chair of the University of

location, the first stop until immigrants could make enough money to move elsewhere. However,
times have always been tough and discrimination has always had a way of making people feel lost
even in a place that should have been their home. Eventually a community began to flourish and
Segundo Barrio became an extension of Mexico, a home away from home, or as my mother tells me a
community inside of a community, which is most likely where the first part Segundo comes from.
Home is what you make of it, and El Paso was home to many, but a community is what develops over
time and is a connection made between people and place. My neighbor and friend, Margarita
Martinez, would joke with me about how no matter where her brother goes in the U.S. whenever he
wears a shirt from a local and long established restaurant he always gets people that come up to him

about where they grew up and the connection they have with the city, it s so weird how excited some

The Decision Making Process as It Relates to Planning
Decision making is the cognitive process leading to the selection of a course of action among
alternatives. Usually the decision making process is implemented resulting from an identified problem
that needs to be addressed and remedied. Each decision making process produces a final choice, which
is called a decision. Planning is an integral part of the process. Without an organized plan, a final
decision will be very difficult to achieve. Planning and decision making are very similar, yet very
distinct processes by which organizational goals are met. If the two processes are implemented
properly, they can complement each other so that goals can be realized in the most efficient and
effective manner possible. Planning involves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Identifying the decision criteria and allocating weights to the criteria are components of the specific
plans within the planning process. Identifying what is relevant to the purchase and giving each priority
the correct weight helped the plan to come to fruition. Every element of the process must be specified
so that the best decision will be made. The fourth step in the decision making process required very
specific planning and research. Identifying viable alternatives that have the correct criteria is very
important when making such a large investment. Our company wanted to review three different
products that could resolve our reporting problems, yet we were only able to find two, Deltek and
Microsoft s Navision. Once the two products were identified, demonstrations were set up to begin the
fifth step of the process. Analyzing the alternatives is accomplished by appraising each product against
the criteria outlined in step two and three of the process. Deltek and Navision are similar products in
that they both provide similar reports and information needed. Yet, they are substantially different
products. Deltek is a financial accounting software program and Navision is an ERP (Enterprise
Resource Planning) system that attempts to integrate all data and processes of an organization into a
single unified system. In terms of price, Deltek is

Climate change is the biggest threat to humans in the twentieth first century, and we already feeling it

told through the many talks that former vice president and environmentalist Al Gore has given .
Inconvenient truth puts into perspective for the audience on how climate change will affect us all
negatively by giving us evidence and statistics behind global warming in such a way that will
persuade almost anyone about the climate change. The film is a combination of many talks that he has

Most skeptics of climate change argue that either climate change is not real or that it is too late to do
anything about it. Climate change is real and it is a fact known by all, but as inconvenient truth
explained a small group opposed because they stand to lose, if we were to change our habits. Al Gore
gave us some numbers in inconvenient truth, it was was a poll about how many scientist believe that
global warming is real, and they asked over a 1000 scientist. Out of the 1000, zero said that climate
change was not real, and it makes sense we have large amount of data such as temperature reports,
CO2 analyzers, rising sea levels , and among other things that all point a global warming to be real.
This small group of deniers are people who work for big companies that benefit from selling the
product that contribute to global warming. In the movie Al gore gave an example of the guy who
worked at the bush administration, and was head of environmental policies. He would edit out all the
reports that scientist would write so that they would sound unsure of whether or not global warming
was real. When the scandal came to light and was fired, he got a job the next day at ExxonMobil an oil
company. It is people like this that you see on media all time, arguing that global warming is not real,
when all the science point the other, but media reaches far, and that is how doubt is formed about this
subject. The other arguments that the skeptics used was that it was too late to change course, but this is
also false. Inconvenient truth has showed that we could reverse the amount of CO2 in the air if we use
electricity and devices efficiently, electric cars, renewables. If we do all this we could reverse the
increasing CO2 levels in the air. It is not too late to do something about global

Analysis of “the Man Who Was Thursday”
The role of the artist was especially important to Chesterton in 1908 because during that time Britain
was booming with unemployed anarchist; Chesterton states in his own novel that An artist disregards
all governments, abolishes all conventions. The poet delights in disorder only. (Chesterton, Pg. 8)
meaning that a true artist lives free of a government; they are free to create as they please without
following rules. The rules simply restrict their creativity and abilities. The role of the artist is a

Lightness And Darkness In Macbeth Essay
The Light That Shines
Francis Bacon once said, In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present . In
plays with misfortunate events, such as Macbeth, characters go through internal conflicts, questioning
good versus evil. In the play, the antagonist goes through the struggle of finding an answer to right
versus wrong, along with the other characters. His mission is to become king, which leads him to a
world filled with darkness where he extinguishes all the light that was there to guide him. In
Shakespeare s play, Macbeth, the idea of lightness and darkness are discussed in order to exhibit
purity and corruption through the characters Macbeth, Lady Macbeth, and Banquo. When Macbeth is
told by the witches that he shall become king soon, he realizes he has two paths he must choose
between. He must either wait for things to fall into place and earn the crown, or he must steal it.
Macbeth decides to take matters into his own hands, and steal the crown by murdering King Duncan.

Imagery In The Man I Killed And Ambush
In the short stories The Man I Killed and Ambush, one of Tim O Brien s purposes is to describe how
society wrongfully portrays soldiers gain a sense of pride and victory when they take lives of other
human beings instead of the guilt driven battle they have to deal with for the rest of their lives. O
Brien tries to disprove this theory and instead show they are actually stuck with this tragedy for the
rest of their lives as they lose their innocence and sense of humanity. O Brien shows this through the
use of imagery to portray and help develop this concept/theme. O Brien describes through vivid
imagery and details in, The Man I Killed, the dead man s eye, His one eye shut, his other eye was a
star shaped hole (118). Here O Brien uses this imagery to symbolize the star shape of the dead man s
eye as a sign of hope as a shooting star, yet, he ties this beautiful image with death, to show that his
hope/future has betrayed him. O Brien purposefully places this star shaped wound on the soldier s eye,
for it is with the eyes that both the dead man and O Brien gaze upon the stars in the sky. As if he was
gazing more upon the stars, upon his future, which in this case his future comes to an end with O
Brien s fatal doing. O Brien s innocence has left him as he has become in a sense dirty after taking this
man s life. So, in this case, O Brien has not taken this killing with pride and victory, but with sadness
and guilt. This goes back to his purpose to show that soldiers

Macro Level Analysis
Sociologists use two levels of analysis: macro and micro. Macro level analysis observes large scale
configurations of society such as, social change and stability. Micro level analysis observes small
scale configurations of society such as, communication or group motivation. Symbolic interactionism,
functional analysis, and conflict theory each fall under either a macro or micro level analysis category.
Symbolic interactionism focuses on micro level analysis because, it focuses on face to face
interactions; how society establishes social life through the use of symbols. Functional analysis and
conflict theory both fall under the macro level analysis category. Functional analysis uses macro level
analysis because, it focuses on the innner parts of society and how these parts work together and

Symbolic interactionists would focus on the micro level, they would analyze what people do and what

functionalists and conflict theorists would focus more on the macro level, how changes in the lives of
Americans has caused a rise in the obesity rate. Functionalists might stress that today the upsurge in
technology has taken over a lot of jobs which, in turn, causes a decrease in income forcing people to
buy cheap fast food to save their money, especially those who have several mouths to feed.

Theseus As A Hero In The Heroic Hero
Myths consists of many legendary heroes within, but what makes them different from an ordinary
person. Many convey that it is not very challenging to be a hero, but wise ones know the struggles of
being a hero, which the texts Theseus and The Adventure of Odysseus , written in the book Mythology
by Edith Hamilton proves. Heroes may require help from others, but more often than not, they are
fearless fighters who do not need the aid of others to be successful. Heroes might easily gain credits
for the work of their fellow allies, but that does not mean it is easy to be a hero. A true hero should not
be afraid of pain or death just like the great legend Theseus. At the same time, these heroes must be
like the extraordinary hero Odysseus, who is successful in his heroic journey. Heroes need sidekicks,
whom they rely on for multiple reasons, but end up with all the credit; just like how Theseus obtains
all the glory for Ariadne s thinking and how Odysseus attains almost all the credits for Athena s work.
Ariadne tells Theseus the way to get out of the Labyrinth where the Minotaur stays, She would bring
about the escape if he would promise to take her back to Athens and marry her ( Theseus Hamilton
207). The only reason Theseus is able to slaughter the Minotaur and escape the maze is because of
Ariadne. Theseus leaves Ariadne to die on an island. Even if she dies because of a disease, he should
have at least informed the people of Athens that she is a huge reason for his success. At the end he
gains all the glory and becomes known for single handedly defeating the Minotaur. Moreover, Athena
releases Odysseus, after many arguments with the gods and sends him on a journey, which makes him
a legend. The Olympians were moved by her words... Zeus spoke for them all when he said they must
put their heads together and contrive a way for him to return ( The Adventures of Odysseus Hamilton
287). Athena releases Odysseus from his punishment after having many debates with the gods. Not

Gay College Student At The University Of Wyoming ( Bio )
Born in December 1, 1976 in Casper, Wyoming, Matthew Shepard was a young, gay college student at
the University of Wyoming (bio). Studying political science, Shepard wanted to pursue a Foreign
Service career after college (bio). On October 6, 1998, Shepard met Aaron McKinney and Russell
Henderson at a local bar in Laramie, Wyoming (bio). Unaware of the two men s true motivations,
Shepherd left the bar with McKinney and Henderson and drove away with them to a rural area in
Laramie (bio). Eighteen hours later, Matt Shepard was found barely alive and strapped to a wooden
fence (bio). According to the police report, Shepard had been pistol whipped multiple times across the
face and left to die in the freezing early morning temperatures of the Wyoming backcountry (bio).
Four days after he was found, Matt Shepard died at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado
due to significant brain injuries (wikipedia).
Matt Shepard s death sparked a media frenzy that focused on one central idea: Matt Shepard, a gay
young man was brutally murdered because of his sexual orientation. Shepard s death caused a massive
outbreak of protesting as prominent people in the LGBTQ community spoke out in protest against
discrimination (wikipedia). However, one of the more interesting responses during this time of anger,
grief, and protesting was that of the faculty of University of Wyoming (Loffreda).

Film Theory Aesthetics Of The Music Video Died For...

Film Theory Aesthetics
In this essay I will be deconstructing stills from the music video, Died for Love, created for The
Unthanks within the module DE1194 and providing evidence on how it corresponds to existing film
theory. The music video shows the final moments in the life of housewife, Evelyn Raines, as she
struggles with the advancement of technology within 1969. The film explores themes of loss and
isolation as she prepares herself for death.
I will analyse the stills relating both to the abstract art form and also images that focus on realism,
showing how the piece uses multiple film methods to create and enhance the music video s narrative
whilst also discussing the meaning within the imagery and how specific techniques were used to
convey a certain message or emotion. Through the imagery, specific focuses will be made relating to
the cinematography, the use of colour and the intention of the shot, this will then be expanded into
how this is relatable with earlier and modern forms of cinema. I will also discuss how the images have
similarities to avant garde and surrealist films and whether animated characters can relate to live
action performances within film.

An Analysis Of Ex-Basketball By John Updike
Updike s poem, Ex Basketball , is a poem that remembers the heyday of Flick, while at the same time
illustrating a descriptive picture for the reader. He commences with a description of a journey down a
street that could represent Flick s life; full of turns and promises but dead ends because of a lack of
training. Moreover, John Updike composes this poem with figurative language, correct diction, and
imagination using valuable elements to create an excellent effect on the tone and meaning of this
poetic style poem. I could say that the theme of Ex basketball focuses on the fact that if one does not
work hard on achieving their goals, they will not succeed in reaching their dream. In fact, the outcome
of not reaching your goals can lead to frustration and disappointment in life. Evidently, Flick shows a
reflection of people who once were successful in sports when he was in high school, but has
drastically different future than one might think.
To be able to understand the poem, Updike starts by saying Pearl Avenue runs past the high school lot
which serves as a metaphor describing pathways highlighting the best and past in Flick achievements.
In addition, he is providing the reader with a specific and vivid description to a journey, traveling in
mind to a certain place and setting of the poem. Also, when he states Bends with the trolley tracks, and
stops, cut off ; he is sending the message that Flick s glory days have vanished right after high school.
Accordingly, leading the way abruptly to Berth Garage can be interpreted as the gas station where
more likely Flick works his entire life. With all this uttered, the speaker is provoking a feeling of
nostalgia, creating a connection to the poem s meaning.
The Speaker of the poem segues into Flick working at the gas station with Flick standing around,
waiting to help out. In my opinion Flick stands tall among the idiot pumps indicates that Flick
standing tall and with pride near the pumps. However, Flick s skills are evidence of his intelligence,
which seems to be higher than everyone else at the gas station making him look great, but alone and at
the same time converting himself as his own team player. This could be a representation of a former

An Analysis of Toy Story Essay
Toy Story Analysis
Toy Story is the groundbreaking 1995 motion picture developed by Disney and Pixar and directed by
John Lasseter. The film was so revolutionary not only because it was the first feature length animation
to be created completely by CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) but also, also the film was more
rounded in all respects. The characters not only looked more sophisticated and three dimensional but
their personalities were also more human and fewer cartoons like. The film uses a constructed text in
order to put across a theme of two very different characters learning to work together beyond their
rivalries to rise above a common enemy and work towards a common goal. The film uses characters

Woody quickly becomes jealous and insecure with the arrival of Buzz and this turns him into a bully.
Not the characteristics expected of a Disney hero. This is shown in the way Woody constantly
ridicules Buzz making fun of his name and teases him maliciously about the fact he thinks he actually
is a space ranger. This brings us on to Buzz. He is super confidant and suffers from delusions of
grandeur. However although he may be a little irritating he is still likeable, cheerful and helpful. He
has too much confidence in own abilities. This is why when he sees the advertisement for Buzz
Lightyear Action figures he completely loses his will to live and is unable to do anything. This is
another theme that self belief has a reflection in what you are able to do as they both find out at the
end in that when they have confidence in themselves they are able to rise above seemingly
insurmountable obstacles in rescuing Buzz and getting back to Andy. Another theme is that of
appearances being deceptive. Woody and Buzz immediately consider the toys in Sid s room as evil.
The audience also get this feeling. Not only do they look disturbing but also they are also associated
with Sid who is the main evil character. Despite their initial fears, Woody and Buzz are soon
convinced that Sid s warped creations are also prisoners and are in fact friends. It turns out that
without the intervention of Sid s toys Sid would

Homophobia And Discrimination
Discrimination and prejudice against sexual minorities are a major social concern in the U.S. today
(Rivers, 2011). The stigma towards homosexuals can be a hinder to a healthy identity development
and can cause a context of isolation and tension. This discussion talks about the insight and deviance,
which violators of important social norms are therefore stigmatized. Hence, deviants are believed to
be different from normal people and are set apart. When the social norms are violated, they could be
tolerated or even ignored. However, important principles are discussed to help understand social
deviance in sexual orientation. Therefore, understanding the link between homophobia and the gender

The offenders tend to believe that others approve their behavior and actions and hence see no wrong in
it e.g., the trend of job discrimination in most states of the U.S which is legalized (Palmer, 2011).
Furthermore, homophobia being a community problem is extensively seen in the identification of
gender roles. These stereotypes hold firmly that certain genders e.g. the male group are very firm and
characterized by strength. Hence, unlike the female groups that are emotional and not strong enough.
Homophobia is addressed more towards gay males than it would towards gay females. Hence, making
men more likely to perpetrate violence towards gay men. The traditional and sexist stereotypes may
make those with homophobia view gay men and lesbian s women as being a threat to their traditional
heterosexual conceptions of masculinity. Researchers have shown men experiencing conflict, which
relates to four domains of a male gender role: These gender roles consist of success, power, and
competition. Researchers have also concluded that religion is interconnected to homophobia.
These conventional beliefs are also entrenched in the social and cultural facilities, for example,
families and religious institution (Palmer, 2011). The religions teach prejudice towards the gay
community. Hence, this puts religious fundamentalist as being closed minded, which causes them to

Seven Dwarves Mine Train Essay
New Fantasyland is a new expansion in Walt Disney World, Florida. Announced in September 2009,
construction for this large project, which will end up doubling the size of the previous Fantasyland,
was completed in stages starting in early 2012 and ending this year with the opening of the Seven
Dwarves Mine Train. This project incorporated many different disciplines of engineering, including
mechanical, structural, and software engineering.
Mechanical engineering is the discipline of engineering which involves design and building devices

Although this may not be a conventional example of being sustainable, I believe that by addressing
this problem now and not allowing it to fester for future generations to deal with was a very
sustainable move.
Safety issue that would have surrounded this project in the planning process would have included
ensuring that the shape of the tracks of some rides and the speeds at which the ride goes at would be
sufficient and also not too fast to ensure the safety of the passengers, especially with the Seven
Dwarves Mine Train which involves rocking carts, the first roller coaster of its kind. Careful
calculations and many models, both computer and physical, should have been done to ensure that
these are safe for all passengers. Safety issues when actually constructing the project would have
included making certain that visitors to the park were kept away from the construction site, as the park
was fully open during the construction period. So long as tall, appropriate barriers were placed around
the site, this should have been fine.
One of the decisions made when building New Fantasyland was the decision to demolish some
attractions to make way for others.
Some attractions, though popular, were demolished altogether, including:

Donald s boat, a water play area

The Value Of Retaining Employees
Laura Michaud expresses the importance and what it takes to retain employees in her article, The
Value of Retaining Employees. It s hard to retain employees especially when opposing organizations
try to influence employees with offers of more money or more perks. Michaud discusses five
important retention tips that will keep employees happy; build relationships, offer praise, listen, create
a fun environment, and strengthen the team. Retention is important for a company because losing
employees can potentially cost a lot of money. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, it costs a
company one third of a new hire s annual salary to replace him or her (Michaud 2000). The direct
costs the company uses to find new employees includes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Building relationships and sharing information allows employees to feel appreciated and important.
Another way to strengthen employee retention is to offer praise. Offering praise helps build morale.
Employees need to feel appreciated when they do a job well done. Another important tip Michaud
discusses is for employers to listen to their employees. Employees will be open to discuss their needs
and wants about job related issues. It s important to listen and understand what they are saying and not
dismiss their thoughts as unimportant. Michaud goes on to say that one of the easiest ways to retain
employees is to create a fun work environment. Having fun at work creates a bond by making people
feel a part of things. Studies have shown that humor also helps alleviate stress (Michaud 2000). The
last tip discussed in the article is to continue to strengthen the team. Any company is only as strong as
the weakest employee so it s important to hire those people whose strengths are the company s
weaknesses. Employers need to do whatever they can to keep their current staff while attracting the
best possible applicants for future employment. This study matches my expectations. In my
workplace, the most common reason for employee turnover is due to relationship conflicts. Most of
the conflicts that occur within this organization revolve around a lack of proper communication and

The benefits and opportunities to embrace engineering far outweigh the difficulties in the process, but
despite this, my pure love for mathematics has been the major contributor to my ambitions. From a
young age, I found math incredibly enjoyable. The order and consistency found through something as
simple as the order of operations served as a driving force to my curiosity and dedication to the
subject. As the mathematical concepts intensified, I was able to adequately keep up and enjoy the
journey along the way. While signing up for my senior year classes, the decision to take calculus was
made easily. While speaking with the instructor, Yvonne Sebastian, I discovered that her love for math
was derived from similar feelings. In an interview with Sebastian, she stated, Math is a beautiful thing.
Numbers are incredibly simple, but they can be used to calculate very complex scenarios. No matter
how difficult a problem may seem, there is always a solution, an answer that can be found and
understood through the power of math (Y. Sebastian, personal communication, February 14, 2017).
Interacting with a teacher who understood to a great level of degree my similar feelings regarding
math has been an incredible motivator in my desire to pursue a career which incorporates mathematics
frequently. For any individual to be happy with their occupation, I would argue that they must
experience a desire to progress

Medical Ethics Chapter 1 Summary
Medical Ethics has been around since the very beginning concepts of medicine. In A Short History of
Medical Ethics, Albert R. Jonsen gives a brief 120 page synopsis of the differences and advances in
medical ethics through different time periods and cultures. Jonsen jumps from one philosopher to the
next, covering the similarities and differences between such a wide ranged topic over time.
Throughout the chapters, I did notice that there was one unifying theme that stayed consistent:
decorum, deontology, and politic ethics. Decorum is the appropriateness of behavior or conduct,
deontology is the study of nature of duty and obligation, and politic ethics is the practice of making
moral judgments about political actions.

Culture And Cultural Values In African American Culture
After interpreting each participant responses to each question, I consider influences that could affect
respondents such as; society values, cultural/ subcultural values, and personal values. Starting with
question number one all respondents answered in similar ways by starting with introducing body parts
with their children. Each introduce anatomy with proper terms. Respondent number two said silly
names shows society not being comfortable talking about sex. Respondents one and two are both
sexual health educators which has affected how they raise their children. Depending on culture, sex is
not easy topic for parent or children be open and comfortable. Respondent one and three is African
American women. In this sub cultural, sex it not something you discuss with parents until you are
much older. But personal I see it as they are breaking habits in African American culture. Respondent
number three in my opinion answered in fear of someone touching her children. I believe that her
responses were hyper sensitive and could relate to trauma or personal experience. We ve talked about
fear in our class and how powerful it can be. Although, each participant started having the sex talk

Potato Famine of 1845 Essay
At the end of the summer of 1845, a thick rain fell throughout Ireland, carrying with its pores of blight
that killed multiple crops, including the potato crop. Because Ireland was dependent on the potato
crop, the results of this blight were catastrophic. Britain, who had control over Ireland at this time, did
very little to help the now starving and poor Irish. As a result of English disregard towards the Irish
during the Potato Famine of 1845, the already fragile relationship between Ireland and England
worsened.
When this particular blight, containing the fungus phytophthora infestans, struck the potatoes, it killed
the tuber of the plant and potatoes all throughout Ireland began to rot. The blight also hit the rest of

Furthermore, there was an outbreak of cholera in 1849. Ireland was running out of space for corpses to
be buried, so hundreds of these bodies were not buried with coffins; just a few inches below the soil
and ground almost touching the corpse next to it (Kinealy, 93). Many of the Irish that didn t die from
these diseases did die from starvation. Seeing as the potato was main source of nutrition for many
Irish people, many became malnourished. Not only was it nutritious, but also the potato was very
cheap and fed large amounts of people. The Potato Famine hit the hardest in 1847; it was the height of
hunger in Ireland. It is thought that over half of a million people die in 1847, compared to the million
that died from 1845 1848 (Kinealy, 92). Many of the Irish chose to become potato farmers, due to the
fact that it could be grown on such cheap land. When the famine hit, thousands soon found themselves
out of work. Many could not pay their rent, and were evicted. Some landlords tried their best to help
their tenants and not charge them for rent, but soon they needed a source of income as well (Scally,

A Summary Of The Apache Girl s Rite Of Passage
Despite the different time period there are still things that stay the same, whether it s technology,
education, or culture bits and pieces of history are still here in the modern world. Like, in the
Medicine Bag, even though the tradition was generations old it was still passed down to the males in
the family. Or in the video Apache Girl s Rite of Passage, the ritual was centuries old and yet it was
still used today in the reservation as the transformation from adolescence to adulthood. Inca s ritual
had evolved over time based on something that had changed. In this essay, all the similarities and
differences will be identified in all three rites of passage. This essay also includes the advantages and
disadvantages of text versus video.
There are many similarities among the Lakota, Apache, and Incan coming of age ceremonies for the
boys of the tribe. Each tribe had a ritual that tested the strength and endurance of the boys in their
tribe. Boys in the Lakota tribe, particularly around the age of 11, experience a test of endurance and
strength that requires them to fast, pray, and survive for a bare minimum of twenty four hours, in the
wilderness. By doing so, successfully, they will be fully recognized as a working member of the
community. The Apache tribe also does a test of endurance and strength to help their boys become
strong warriors. The elders of the community tell the boys to run to the top of a mountain and come
back again without stopping. As they become older,

The Glass Menagerie And Winnie Holzman And Stephen...
Theater has been a platform that has been used to deepen our communication and understanding of the
complexities of the world around us. It teaches us through language, movement, and the establishment
of intimate relationships that play to the contagious nature of emotions.
The majority of the 20th century saw a utilization of plays as a tool to stimulate social change,
provoke viewers to assess the foundation of what they believe, and an attempt to depict humanity as it
truly was. In comparison, though not totally in abandonment, the later 20th century and early 21th
century brought to life a more flashy, commercialized interpretation of this tool, and played to the
societal theme of entertainment, as seen in the increase of musical theater (Janaro). A true example of
this stark contrast is Tennessee Williams tragedy The Glass Menagerie and Winnie Holzman and
Stephen Schwartz s mega musical Wicked. Although from fundamentally different eras and using the
employment of distinctive structures that correlate with the different branches of theater, at the core,
these stories speak to the same idea of freedom as discussed in the Janaro text.
Through assessing the actual elements of these theatrical pieces, there are a lot of similar motifs
advanced by both works. In both cases, there is an overarching theme of the characters being divergent
from cultural expectations, the ideal of fatherhood is outlined as symbol of contempt and
abandonment, there is prevalence of both

The Dilemmas Of Public Education And Public School...
The greatly discussed dilemma of having a child be taught in a public school setting versus a
homeschool setting has been evaluated by parents since the idea was first introduced in the 1970 s.
Public schooling had been the standard method of teaching since it is a requirement for states to
provide public, free education for children in grades K 12. However, the backlash against the system
began when two educational theorists and supporters of school reform, John Holt and Raymond
Moore, started to question both the techniques and the products of public schools. Some parents went
on to support the ideas of them and began to teach their children in the environment of their own
homes for several different reasons. Some included moral or religious reasons, a desire for high
educational achievement, dissatisfaction with public schools instructional program, or concerns about
drugs and peer pressure in a public school environment. Child development specialists believe that
homeschooled children are isolated from the outside world, therefore making them socially
handicapped. If being exposed to this type of education on an elementary school level, the child can
suffer from the lack of fundamental development of effective social skills needed for a lifetime ahead
of them.
It is believed that by restricting children from the real world and its many problems through home
schooling, they may never get the chance to learn both life lessons and social interaction skills on their
own

that the mass arrests of Poles were too much for the capacity of local prisons. Eventually, it became
the largest death camp of the Holocaust. Auschwitz covered about 40 square miles and had more than
40 sub camps within a several hundreds kilometer radius. The camp consisted of 22 prewar brick

Benefits Of The Louisiana Purchase
The Louisiana Purchase was a land deal made between France and the U.S. in December of 1803,
where France sold America 828,000 miles of land along the west side of the Mississippi River for 15
million dollars (approximately 4 cents per acre). People regard it as Thomas Jefferson s greatest
achievement because of how drastically it changed the United States. The purchase greatly expanded
America and brought many other benefits along with it. Although it was definitely a major benefit to
the United States, even Jefferson had his doubts about the purchase. But despite their many doubts, the
U.S. made the decision to ratify the purchase, and because of that decision, America has changed for
the better. Although there were a few doubts at the time, the Louisiana Purchase was extremely
beneficial to the United States. It was One of the most colossal land transactions in history (1),

handshakes, and women pat on the back. They usually greet the person with a Buenos Dias or
whatever time it is at that time of the day. Direct eye contact is take important.
Chile has many holidays, some similar to what we see here in the U.S. They have many of their own

How The Disadvantaged Social Status Of The First...
The occupation of Australia involved an inventory of prejudiced and misguided policies against
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples that manifested in the dispossession, physical ill
treatment, social disruption, population decline, economic exploitation, codified discrimination and
cultural devastation of the first people of this land (Vos, Barker, Begg, Stanley Lopez, 2008, p. 471). It
is undisputed that compared with mainstream Australians, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
are still experiencing significantly worse health, social and economic outcomes. This essay will
investigate how the disadvantaged social status of the First Australians has impacted Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander children s health, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (2005) states Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
experience lower levels of employment, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait adults in 2002 being more
than twice as likely to be unemployed, compared to mainstream Australian adults.
According to international research, there is indication that low socioeconomic status is associated
with poor health and increased exposure to health risk factors (Blakely, Hales Woodward, 2004;
Turrell Mathers, 2000; Carson, Dunbar, Chenhall Ballie, 2007, as cited in Australian Bureau of
Statistics, 2008). Data shows that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people without completion of
education were more likely to habitually smoke, consume high volumes of alcohol, engage in low
levels of exercise and were less likely to eat fruit and vegetables on a day to day basis (ABS, 2008).
Other social influences relating to the issue of poor health include low income, unhygienic living
conditions and remote location (Healey, 2002). Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with low
income have little available funds for purchasing health care and dietary needs and those living in
remote areas have restricted access to health facilities and resources (ABS, 2008; Australian
HealthInfoNet, 2013).
From this, it is evident that due to the social status and outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander people, an

Essay About Vacation In The Caribbean Vacation
Choosing vacations destinations can become a stressful process. However, if the goal is to find
locations outside of the United States and wan to travel to countries in the Caribbean and Latin
America I have a few suggestions for you. Negril, Jamaica and Cancun Mexico are among the best
vacations spots I have ever visited. The beaches, the accommodations, and the food is amazing in both
countries.
Negril, Jamaica was the second place out of the United States I vacationed. The resort I stayed in was
a five star all inclusive adult only resort named Swept Away. The accommodations in Swept Away
were astonishing. I stayed in a bungalow styled room separate from the main resort rooms. The
bungalow was located on the beach near the shoreline. The room was huge. In it there was a queen
size bed made of wood and two lounge chairs. The bedding was bright white linen and the cushions on
the lounge chairs were made of the same bright white linen. Large white mosquito net was draped
around the bed. The white bedding, cushions and mosquito net gave the room a nice calm and
romantic feeling. Also, there was a balcony adjacent to the room. The balcony had a white linen sofa
and two end tables made of wood. The view from the balcony was of the beautiful blue oceans and
beach.
The beaches in Negril bore light brown almost beige colored sand. The sand felt like soft little pebbles
between your toes when stepped on. Most of the time mellow calypso or reggae music could be heard

The Fate Of Peking Opera Essay
What is art and what is politics? Art is a range of human activities that express their emotions and
culture though a visual way such as painting and performing. Politics refer to some decisions made by
government in order to achieve governance. (Wikipedia) For Farewell My Concubine, Peking Opera
is the most obvious representative of art. The fate of Peking Opera reflects the relationships between
art and politics. In the background of great social transformation historical, Peking Opera turn from
the period of great prosperity to decline.
Peking Opera kept relatively stable with politics and historical influences to the premodern age. Since
modern times, Peking Opera was slaved to politics and historical influences gradually, especially in
1950s. In Farewell My Concubine, Peking Opera, as the key written subject, throughout the film, is
integrated with social, political, and historical backgrounds during the special period. On the one
hand, Chen shows development of Peking Opera through the film in this period. On the other hand,
the film reflects connections between art and politics.
There is a mirror image of history in the beginning of the film: Xiaolou and Dieyi return after being
pressured under the Cultural Revolution. The theatre used to be alive turns empty, leaving several old
workers and echo around the theatre. (Chen) Subtitles gives historical background and political
metaphors. In instead of saying that Farewell My Concubine shows the love and hate of

Napoleon And Satire
Charlie Chaplin and Horace do a phenomenal job entertaining and explaining the idea and use of
satire in both of their works. The satire in Horace s Book I Sat I and satire in Modern Times are
different as satire in Horace uses satire in the ideas of people such as merchants and soldiers, while
satire in Modern Times is about the things happening around the little tramp and the things the little
tramp is doing. They are also similar as they both use many types of satirical devices such as irony
and both use humor to entertain the idea of satire.
In book I satire I, Horace begins essentially complaining about others complaining about themselves.
How come, Maecenas, no one alive s ever content with the lot he chose or the fate threw in his way .

Financial Accounting Concerns
1. Tokyo AFM recognized premium revenue at the time it received the policyholder s up front cash
payment. The company s accountants argued that since the level of up front payments received from
policyholders had been stable over the last few years, this method was an appropriate reflection of
economic reality.
For example, Fuji Computers entered into a five year insurance contract with Tokyo AFM against
earthquake damage to its headquarters building. As is customary, it paid the 100 million premiums for
the five year coverage up front in cash.
Question: How would you recognize revenues associated with this type of catastrophe insurance

Another expense that can be considered for capitalization is advertising costs. Only advertising costs
that are direct response advertising can be capitalized. Direct response advertising is advertising for
which the primary purpose is to stimulate sales to customers or potential customers that have
specifically responded to the advertising and it results in probable future benefits. Hence $20,000 cost
of marketing efforts incurred over the past six months to promote Home Umbrella which is direct
response advertising cost should be capitalized and amortized over the period of contract.
3. Broadly speaking, two major types of insured events could give rise to losses covered by insurance
contracts:
* Events that actuarial analysis could assess and predict with a high level of accuracy across a large
number of contracts (for example, events covered by automobile insurance). * Catastrophes, which
were generally adverse natural events such as earthquakes and hurricanes, but which could also be
human induced events such as terrorist attacks. Catastrophes were considered low probability high
consequence events. They were uncertain and very difficult to predict in terms of timing and extent of
damage. For the coming year, the company had estimated that expected losses across all its
automobile insurance contracts would amount to 70% of

Roman Civilization Research Paper
and wondered what they were talking about? All Roads Lead to Rome to me means everything we
have today for example architecture, engineering, economy, art, culture, religion, government, and law
leads back to Rome. Even if you may not know it, the Roman civilization is very important to us
today. I think this because Romans invented so many things that helped us and inspired us today in
modern day life.
An example of modern day people being influenced is the ancient Romans building bridges. In the
contributions of rome The Romans were the ones to build bridges so they could get across waters to
fight their enemies in battle. If the Romans hadn t built bridges we wouldn t have any way to get
across seas/water besides planes, boats, and helicopters, but some people can t afford to go on those

were forced to become christian. There were festivals that had still continued. In the festivals there

reason why the Roman civilization is so important to us today.

Guinea Pig By Guinea Pigs
Once upon a time, on the coastal cliffs and rocky shores of Animal Island, there lived a sea guinea pig.
He was young and curious and loved adventure. He would go diving down to the ocean floor to
discover the colorful fish that swam through the bright sea plants, and he loved to explore the small
underwater caves that dotted the edges of the reef.
One day Guinea Pig was basking in the sunshine. It was almost always cloudy where he lived, and it
was a rare day when the sun was out. As Guinea Pig sunned himself on the shore, his eyes scanned the
great, vast ocean. It was so big, and he was so curious. He wondered if there were different creatures
and fish out there. What if there were other plants and sea animals that he didn t know about? ... Show

But Guinea Pig knew it wasn t safe to go far into the sea, for many of his friends had warned him of
the dangerous and terrible Octopus that lived beyond the edge of the reef. But Guinea Pig had never
seen Octopus, and he thought that maybe his friends were just making it up.
Octopus probably isn t even real, He told himself. I ll be fine. And he stood up and began to walk
down to the water s edge.
But strangely enough, he couldn t see the gold anymore! It no longer shined and glittered in the sun.
Oh, the sun is setting, Guinea Pig thought, disappointed. It s not shining on the gold anymore, so I ll
have to wait until tomorrow, when I can see the gold again.
Guinea Pig could hardly sleep that night. His heart was filled with excitement and greed. He wished
he could go get the gold right now, but at night he wouldn t be able to see the treasure, and he would
get lost in the ocean if he didn t know where he was going.
I ll get the gold first thing tomorrow morning, Guinea Pig thought. Tomorrow, I will be rich!
Tomorrow, I will be King! And he laughed and closed his eyes, falling into a dream filled slumber. In
his dreams he was King of Animal Island, and he told everyone what to do. Everyone was servant to
him. They catered to his every wish and worshipped him because he was so rich.
Morning finally broke, and Guinea Pig quickly ate breakfast and headed down to the waterfront. It
was another sunny day, and the sun shone brightly on the gold.

Symbolism In The Birthmark By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Nathaniel Hawthorne, in his short story The Birthmark (written and published prior to 1843), contains
the element of symbolism to present the theme of personal beauty, regardless of physical appearance.
More specifically, he speaks of the appearance of Georgiana, the wife of Aylmer, who had a very large
birthmark, or blemish that appeared upon birth. God made every individual perfect, and made it very
clear that man not need go tampering with the beauty, inner or external, that God gave someone at the
moment of their birth birth. The style Hawthorne chose describes each symbol with great detail . For
example, when Hawthorne describes the birthmark in detail; ...But if any shifting motion caused her to
turn pale there was the mark again, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Aylmer tries to destroy Georgiana s human nature [her birthmark, in which born with],
thus destroying her life, because she essentially contained no beauty on the outside (Rosenberg, The
Best The Earth Has To Offer). Aylmer wanted to cure his wife from the birthmark she had that he so
dreaded. He looked at his wife as being Shocking (Hawthorne, The Birthmark). Another example
would be when Aminabad looked at Georgiana with the identity given to her, not the identity her
husband wants for her . ...Aminadab, looking intently at the lifeless form of Georgiana; and then he
muttered to himself, If she were my wife, I d never part with that birthmark. Aminadab shows large
levels of content with the appearance and features of Georgiana, that he would have never tampered
with the features given to her at birth, opposed to Aylmer, who wanted to change the way she looked,
that she be more beautiful to him (Rosenberg, The best the Earth has to Offer). A third example of this
theme would be That Georgiana Wants Her husband to love her the way she is, and in the beginning of
the story, gets rather upset at him. Shocks you, my husband! cried Georgiana, deeply hurt; at first
reddening with momentary anger, but then bursting into tears. Then why did you take me from my
mother s side? (Hawthorne, The Birthmark).

Old World Wine and New World Wine
Wines in the Old and New World
Xuanyu Liu
San Francisco State University Abstract
The wines are divided into two categories, the old world wine and the new world wine. When Hugh
Johnson came up with his concept of these two worlds, people have started to find out the differences.
Wines are beverages of gods, and people enjoy them and have their own understanding of wines. The
old world wines are traditional while the new world wines are modern. In this research paper, I will
tell the difference(s) between these two worlds wines in aspects of their natures, cultures, histories, as
well as their developments today. Keyword: new world wine, old word wine

For example, French people respect the spirit of Terroir. They believe the original land, soil, climate,
and varieties of grapes are best represents of the wine and its culture, and the nature factors are the
best to decide and embody the essence of wines. AOC system is the protection and interpretation of
the traditional French winemaking philosophy. If people mix grapes from different geographical
locations, it would be considered as the violation to the wine spirit and culture. If a wine used non
statutory variety of grapes, no matter how beautiful and tasty it was, it could not become the AOC
level. The new world wines have more innovation and reformation in wine styles. People improve
wines in the experiment. They use different varieties of grape and planting techniques, have the
modern brewing philosophy and production organizations. The new world wines have really new
faces, tastes, and qualities. For the New World, there is no heavy history and heritage; there are less
experience bondage and concepts constraints. The legal philosophy restrictions are almost non
existent. Therefore, in the new world wine development, people are more creative and accept the spirit
of the new things. Mechanical picking machines, peeling machines, thermostatic stainless steel

  • 8. Hector Berlioz s Symphonie Fantastique Review: Symphonie Fantastique Symphonie Fantastique is the first full musical outpouring of romanticism composer, Hector Berlioz. Hector Berlioz is a French composer, a microcosm of the romantic era. Symphony Fantastique is a quintessential example of romantic programmatic music. It is a novel, unlike poetry. It is free of structural form; based on Berlioz being under the influence and remembering of an unattainable woman. There are five movements; his first tempers his depression, his love and jealousy which then rage to religious consolation. The second movement is about his encounter with her at ball. The third movement consists of him seeking peace while wandering in the countryside only to have her disrupt his peace. There is a slow introduction; you get a sense of longing in the music suggesting that Berlioz is feeling sad before he saw his lady friend. The symphony plays a slow introduction in a classical sonata style. The muted strings play a sort of veiled tune and it fits Berlioz s romantic spirit. The orchestra gives off a dreamlike condition and the melody provides a sense of loneliness, and despair, a description of how Berlioz feels. The key it is being played in is C minor. Idèe Fixe is incorporated as soon as Berlioz sees the woman again and then it slowly fades away because the waltz takes over as she disappears into the crowd. The music becomes livelier. Usually the decision making process is implemented resulting from an identified problem that needs to be addressed and remedied. Each decision making process produces a final choice, which is called a decision. Planning is an integral part of the process. Without an organized plan, a final decision will be very difficult to achieve. Planning and decision making are very similar, yet very distinct processes by which organizational goals are met. Climate change is real and it is a fact known by all, but as inconvenient truth explained a small group opposed because they stand to lose, if we were to change our habits. Al Gore gave us some numbers in inconvenient truth, it was was a poll about how many scientist believe that global warming is real, and they asked over a 1000 scientist. Out of the 1000, zero said that climate change was not real, and it makes sense we have large amount of data such as temperature reports, CO2 analyzers, rising sea levels , and among other things that all point a global warming to be real. This small group of deniers are people who work for big companies that benefit from selling the product that contribute to global warming. In the movie Al gore gave an example of the guy who worked at the bush administration, and was head of environmental policies. He would edit out all the reports that scientist would write so that they would sound unsure of whether or not global warming was real. When the scandal came to light and was fired, he got a job the next day at ExxonMobil an oil company. It is people like this that you see on media all time, arguing that global warming is not real, when all the science point the other, but media reaches far, and that is how doubt is formed about this subject. The other arguments that the skeptics used was that it was too late to change course, but this is also false. • 17. Imagery In The Man I Killed And Ambush In the short stories The Man I Killed and Ambush, one of Tim O Brien s purposes is to describe how society wrongfully portrays soldiers gain a sense of pride and victory when they take lives of other human beings instead of the guilt driven battle they have to deal with for the rest of their lives. O Brien tries to disprove this theory and instead show they are actually stuck with this tragedy for the rest of their lives as they lose their innocence and sense of humanity. O Brien shows this through the use of imagery to portray and help develop this concept/theme. O Brien describes through vivid imagery and details in, The Man I Killed, the dead man s eye, His one eye shut, his other eye was a star shaped hole (118). Here O Brien uses this imagery to symbolize the star shape of the dead man s eye as a sign of hope as a shooting star, yet, he ties this beautiful image with death, to show that his hope/future has betrayed him. O Brien purposefully places this star shaped wound on the soldier s eye, for it is with the eyes that both the dead man and O Brien gaze upon the stars in the sky. As if he was gazing more upon the stars, upon his future, which in this case his future comes to an end with O Brien s fatal doing. O Brien s innocence has left him as he has become in a sense dirty after taking this man s life. So, in this case, O Brien has not taken this killing with pride and victory, but with sadness and guilt. This goes back to his purpose to show that soldiers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Micro level analysis observes small scale configurations of society such as, communication or group motivation. Symbolic interactionism, functional analysis, and conflict theory each fall under either a macro or micro level analysis category. Symbolic interactionism focuses on micro level analysis because, it focuses on face to face interactions; how society establishes social life through the use of symbols. • 20. Theseus As A Hero In The Heroic Hero Myths consists of many legendary heroes within, but what makes them different from an ordinary person. Many convey that it is not very challenging to be a hero, but wise ones know the struggles of being a hero, which the texts Theseus and The Adventure of Odysseus , written in the book Mythology by Edith Hamilton proves. Heroes may require help from others, but more often than not, they are fearless fighters who do not need the aid of others to be successful. Heroes might easily gain credits for the work of their fellow allies, but that does not mean it is easy to be a hero. A true hero should not be afraid of pain or death just like the great legend Theseus. At the same time, these heroes must be like the extraordinary hero Odysseus, who is successful in his heroic journey. Heroes need sidekicks, whom they rely on for multiple reasons, but end up with all the credit; just like how Theseus obtains all the glory for Ariadne s thinking and how Odysseus attains almost all the credits for Athena s work. Ariadne tells Theseus the way to get out of the Labyrinth where the Minotaur stays, She would bring about the escape if he would promise to take her back to Athens and marry her ( Theseus Hamilton 207). The only reason Theseus is able to slaughter the Minotaur and escape the maze is because of Ariadne. Theseus leaves Ariadne to die on an island. Even if she dies because of a disease, he should have at least informed the people of Athens that she is a huge reason for his success. At the end he gains all the glory and becomes known for single handedly defeating the Minotaur. Moreover, Athena releases Odysseus, after many arguments with the gods and sends him on a journey, which makes him a legend. The Olympians were moved by her words... Zeus spoke for them all when he said they must put their heads together and contrive a way for him to return ( The Adventures of Odysseus Hamilton 287). Athena releases Odysseus from his punishment after having many debates with the gods. Not only that, but she also helps him by giving him a boat to travel back to his homeland. After a long journey, he returns home and takes his kingdom back and becomes a legend, but not many appreciate Athena for Odysseus success. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

David Burtle Northumbria University DE1209 James Leggott 29 April 2016 Film Theory Aesthetics In this essay I will be deconstructing stills from the music video, Died for Love, created for The Unthanks within the module DE1194 and providing evidence on how it corresponds to existing film theory. The music video shows the final moments in the life of housewife, Evelyn Raines, as she struggles with the advancement of technology within 1969. The film explores themes of loss and isolation as she prepares herself for death. I will analyse the stills relating both to the abstract art form and also images that focus on realism, showing how the piece uses multiple film methods to create and enhance the music video s narrative whilst also discussing the meaning within the imagery and how specific techniques were used to convey a certain message or emotion. Through the imagery, specific focuses will be made relating to the cinematography, the use of colour and the intention of the shot, this will then be expanded into how this is relatable with earlier and modern forms of cinema. I will also discuss how the images have similarities to avant garde and surrealist films and whether animated characters can relate to live action performances within film. 1 2 Figure 1: Character trapped within cloth (Source: Died for Love, The Unthanks) In Figure 1 we see the main character, Evelyn, struggling to break free from the confinement created by the cloth surrounding her, the cloth ... • 23. An Analysis Of Ex-Basketball By John Updike Updike s poem, Ex Basketball , is a poem that remembers the heyday of Flick, while at the same time illustrating a descriptive picture for the reader. He commences with a description of a journey down a street that could represent Flick s life; full of turns and promises but dead ends because of a lack of training. Moreover, John Updike composes this poem with figurative language, correct diction, and imagination using valuable elements to create an excellent effect on the tone and meaning of this poetic style poem. I could say that the theme of Ex basketball focuses on the fact that if one does not work hard on achieving their goals, they will not succeed in reaching their dream. In fact, the outcome of not reaching your goals can lead to frustration and disappointment in life. Evidently, Flick shows a reflection of people who once were successful in sports when he was in high school, but has drastically different future than one might think. To be able to understand the poem, Updike starts by saying Pearl Avenue runs past the high school lot which serves as a metaphor describing pathways highlighting the best and past in Flick achievements. In addition, he is providing the reader with a specific and vivid description to a journey, traveling in mind to a certain place and setting of the poem. Also, when he states Bends with the trolley tracks, and stops, cut off ; he is sending the message that Flick s glory days have vanished right after high school. Accordingly, leading the way abruptly to Berth Garage can be interpreted as the gas station where more likely Flick works his entire life. With all this uttered, the speaker is provoking a feeling of nostalgia, creating a connection to the poem s meaning. The Speaker of the poem segues into Flick working at the gas station with Flick standing around, waiting to help out. In my opinion Flick stands tall among the idiot pumps indicates that Flick standing tall and with pride near the pumps. However, Flick s skills are evidence of his intelligence, which seems to be higher than everyone else at the gas station making him look great, but alone and at the same time converting himself as his own team player. Many of the Irish that didn t die from these diseases did die from starvation. Seeing as the potato was main source of nutrition for many Irish people, many became malnourished. It teaches us through language, movement, and the establishment of intimate relationships that play to the contagious nature of emotions. The majority of the 20th century saw a utilization of plays as a tool to stimulate social change, provoke viewers to assess the foundation of what they believe, and an attempt to depict humanity as it truly was. In comparison, though not totally in abandonment, the later 20th century and early 21th century brought to life a more flashy, commercialized interpretation of this tool, and played to the societal theme of entertainment, as seen in the increase of musical theater (Janaro). The greatly discussed dilemma of having a child be taught in a public school setting versus a homeschool setting has been evaluated by parents since the idea was first introduced in the 1970 s. Public schooling had been the standard method of teaching since it is a requirement for states to provide public, free education for children in grades K 12. However, the backlash against the system began when two educational theorists and supporters of school reform, John Holt and Raymond Moore, started to question both the techniques and the products of public schools. Some parents went on to support the ideas of them and began to teach their children in the environment of their own homes for several different reasons. Some included moral or religious reasons, a desire for high educational achievement, dissatisfaction with public schools instructional program, or concerns about drugs and peer pressure in a public school environment. Child development specialists believe that homeschooled children are isolated from the outside world, therefore making them socially handicapped. If being exposed to this type of education on an elementary school level, the child can suffer from the lack of fundamental development of effective social skills needed for a lifetime ahead of them. It is believed that by restricting children from the real world and its many problems through home schooling, they may never get the chance to learn both life lessons and social interaction skills on their own ... The camp consisted of 22 prewar brick barracks buildings. The first prisoners at the camp were mostly Poles. In 1940, there were about 8,000 people registered. • 38. Benefits Of The Louisiana Purchase The Louisiana Purchase was a land deal made between France and the U.S. in December of 1803, where France sold America 828,000 miles of land along the west side of the Mississippi River for 15 million dollars (approximately 4 cents per acre). People regard it as Thomas Jefferson s greatest achievement because of how drastically it changed the United States. The purchase greatly expanded America and brought many other benefits along with it. Although it was definitely a major benefit to the United States, even Jefferson had his doubts about the purchase. But despite their many doubts, the U.S. made the decision to ratify the purchase, and because of that decision, America has changed for the better. Although there were a few doubts at the time, the Louisiana Purchase was extremely beneficial to the United States. It was One of the most colossal land transactions in history (1), containing modern day Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska; as well as parts of Minnesota, Louisiana, New Mexico, Texas, South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, and two Canadian provinces: Alberta and Saskatchewan. It doubled the amount of land the U.S. owned. Bigger land area also meant for more farming lands and more places for various business enterprises (2). With the expansion of the United States farther west, came the total availability of New Orleans and the Mississippi River. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (2005) states Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experience lower levels of employment, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait adults in 2002 being more than twice as likely to be unemployed, compared to mainstream Australian adults. According to international research, there is indication that low socioeconomic status is associated with poor health and increased exposure to health risk factors (Blakely, Hales Woodward, 2004; Turrell Mathers, 2000; Carson, Dunbar, Chenhall Ballie, 2007, as cited in Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2008). Data shows that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people without completion of education were more likely to habitually smoke, consume high volumes of alcohol, engage in low levels of exercise and were less likely to eat fruit and vegetables on a day to day basis (ABS, 2008). Other social influences relating to the issue of poor health include low income, unhygienic living conditions and remote location (Healey, 2002). Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with low income have little available funds for purchasing health care and dietary needs and those living in remote areas have restricted access to health facilities and resources (ABS, 2008; Australian HealthInfoNet, 2013). Negril, Jamaica was the second place out of the United States I vacationed. The resort I stayed in was a five star all inclusive adult only resort named Swept Away. The accommodations in Swept Away were astonishing. I stayed in a bungalow styled room separate from the main resort rooms. The bungalow was located on the beach near the shoreline. The room was huge. In it there was a queen size bed made of wood and two lounge chairs. The bedding was bright white linen and the cushions on the lounge chairs were made of the same bright white linen. Large white mosquito net was draped around the bed. The white bedding, cushions and mosquito net gave the room a nice calm and romantic feeling. Also, there was a balcony adjacent to the room. The balcony had a white linen sofa and two end tables made of wood. The view from the balcony was of the beautiful blue oceans and beach. God made every individual perfect, and made it very clear that man not need go tampering with the beauty, inner or external, that God gave someone at the moment of their birth birth.
