Emotion, Memory, And Decision Making
Emotional arousal appears to have a huge effect on processing, memory, and decision making. For
memories specifically, we tend to rehearse and review episodes of intense emotions frequently,
allowing them to be stronger and more relevant memories (Gluck, 2014). Flashbulb memories suggest
that emotion can greatly increase memory coding, though is still subject to misattribution errors. Still,
evidence suggests that emotion can boost memory encoding (Webbe slides). When creating emotional
experiences in a story against a non emotional story, explicit memory was strengthened by emotion
(Webbe slides). These factors influence the way memory of stored, but an effect known as mood
congruency of memory effect how memory is retrieved. This effect states that it is easier to retrieve
memories based on our current mood. In this way, people who are depressed and asked to recall
memories will recall sad ones, and people asked to recall episodic memories from neutral nouns
would recall memories that match their current mood states (Webbe slides). Life stressors can impact
the development or retrieval of memory, resulting in distorted or false memories. This could result
from psychological stress or trauma, resulting in functional amnesia. Additionally, guided imagery or
hypnosis recovered memories can be distorted, resulting in false memories and can make it difficult to
distinguish false memories from recovered ones. Emotional memory is processed by the amygdale,
and damage to the

Response To Emperor Worship
Emperor Worship Response
Emperor worship began as early as the time of Egyptian Pharaohs like that of King Horus, the divine
ruler over the whole Egypt (Dollinger, 2017, p. 1). Tracing emperor worship from the Pharaohs and
the Ptolemies, Sparta, and Alexander the Great provided evidence of the enormous influence it had on
the Roman emperors. When Rome conquered the East, the same divine honors were transferred to the
Roman proconsuls (Burton, 1912, p. 80). Acceptance of the imperial cult by Roman rulers in Asia
Minor and Greece was far reaching and attributed to Alexander the Great s legacy. However, he was
not regarded as a god. It was Antiochus IV who accepted the honor of being recognized as a divine
king. Afterward, a long line ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1). Emperor worship was entirely unacceptable to the Jews. It was during the time of King Herod the
Great that emperor worship began in Palestine. Herod the Great thought he should be worshiped as
others esteemed as deities. He devised a plan to find baby Jesus and have Him killed so that he would
continue to be recognized as the King of the Jews. However, it was not God s plan, and Herod died
without knowing the whereabouts of baby Jesus. The imperial cult reached its peak of popularity in
the 2nd century and in the 4th century began to lose its religious relevance. The decline of imperial
cult worship was attributed to the rise of Christianity. As Christianity became the formal worship,
emperor worship died. Certain customs that came about during the emperor worship era, such as
kneeling before the Emperor or his statue, was still practiced. In the provinces, priests of emperor
worship still functioned but their function became more political than religious. Hostility remained
between the Jews and Christians toward the Roman emperors. The Roman emperor, Caligula,
demanded his statue be set up in synagogues and in the temple of Jerusalem. The Jews were in an
uproar and made many attempts to defy the order, but before Caligula could totally enforce his order,
he died. After his death, there were no more attempts from Rome to enforce the order and emperor

Duty In Aeneas
The Roman concept of duty was central to nearly everything they did and was tied closely to their
belief in the gods. This was especially true for Aeneas; his sense of duty drove his entire journey. The
Roman concept of duty essentially included loyalty to one s family and to the gods, which ultimately
becomes one s duty to his fate.
Aeneas, the depiction of the ideal Roman man, was very loyal to his family. Aeneas finds it of utmost
importance during his journey to visit his father in the underworld before settling with his people in
what would eventually become Rome. Aeneas wants to get advice and counsel from his father because
he values his opinion, but, more than that, Aeneas knows that one of the most important things in his
life is his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fate is often personified in ancient literature because it is a driving force behind many people s
journeys and actions. The same was true for Aeneas. His duty to the gods was tied closely to his duty
to fate and to destiny. Basically, the reason for all of Aeneas journey is tied to his fate. Aeneas had
been told by the gods that he was to found a great city which would grow and become an empire
Rome. Aeneas even placed his duty to fate above his own desires and passions. When Aeneas visits
the underworld and sees his former lover, Dido, there, Aeneas frantically tries to appease her and
explain why he had to leave her. He explains, I left your land against my will, my queen./ The gods
commands drove me to do their will (6.244 245). Aeneas was destined to found Rome, and despite his
own longing to stay with Dido, his duty to the gods and to fate trumped his own desires. However,
Aeneas duty to the gods and their will was also a positive thing. After Vulcan gave Aeneas the shield
which depicted the great feats of his descendants in Rome, Aeneas was motivated and proud. The
shield showed many of his descendants passionately fighting for Rome, such as Augustus Caesar
leading into battle/ Italians, with both senators and people (8.91 92). Aeneas remained faithful to the
gods and to his family by persevering through difficulties, remembering his family, and fighting
battles

Screwtape Letters Analysis
The Screwtape Letters
The Screwtape Letters is a thought provoking book that details how easily humans are ensnared by the
Enemy. The enticement of the world seems so appealing to human, however, C.S. Lewis makes it very
clear that the enticement in the world is only temporary, and is ultimately a tactic of the Enemy. Often
times, temptation creeps into our minds unexpectedly, but temptation s effects are deadly. The Enemy
will stop at nothing to tempt us, but God s Word says that He will not tempt you beyond what you can
bear, and when temptation comes, God will provide a way out (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Throughout the Screwtape Letters, the character Screwtape writes letters to his nephew, Wormwood.
The reader is propelled into the life of the Patient; and Screwtape makes it clear to Wormwood that he
must stop at nothing to get the Patient from focusing on his relationship with God, and this becomes
the motivation and obsession behind every note Screwtape writes. However, Screwtape does not only
tell Wormwood to tempt the Patient in only one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Screwtape also tries to use lust as a distraction in the Patient s life. Being that the Patient is young and
unmarried, Screwtape is to highlight lusts to keep his burning desire to be for women, and not for the
One who gave him life. This approach was very clever, but believers must realize that the weapons we
fight with are not the weapons of this world. Not only that, but Screwtape encourages Wormwood to
not let the Patient s Christianity shine through. That being said, the Patient would become self
conscious about his relationship with God, thus getting him to focus on self. This tactic, however, is
nothing new. Satan tries nothing new, but it is important for us to know how to resist the devil, and
that is through prayer, and the reading of God s

Essay On Copernicus
Nicolaus Copernicus started out as just an ordinary person. In fact, according to today s standards of
intelligence, he was below average. Who knew that Copernicus would later become one of the most
intelligent people in the world. Copernicus changed the way that people during the Renaissance
viewed astronomy. Copernicus changed history as we know it today and if it wasn t for him, today s
astronomers may still be theorizing about the basic facts of our solar system.
Nicolaus Copernicus was born on February 19, 1473 in Poland. His parents, Nicolaus and Barbara,
were leading merchants and parented four children, Copernicus being the youngest. Then, when
Copernicus was around 10 to 12 years old, his father died and his brother, Lucas, took his nephew
under protection and was soon to become bishop of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These two books taught Copernicus everything he needed to know about astronomy and astrology.
These books also led Copernicus to most of his discoveries and the making of a few books himself
such as De revolutionibus . In this book, Copernicus described viewing the Moon Eclipse stating it
was, the brightest star in the eye of the Bull .
Copernicus had only 27 recorded observations in his lifetime though he most likely had more than
that. He viewed eclipses, planets, stars, and much more. That may not seem very impressive today but,
for Copernicus time period, it was quite a discovery.
Copernicus wrote his book, De revolutionibus , it was only published the year of his death in 1543.
The reason for his book with priceless information about our solar system to be published so late was
that it was controversial and many other theorists disagreed with Copernicus claims. It was only at the
year of his death that people realized that Copernicus was

The Amendment Is Not Protected Under The Freedom Of Speech...
The first amendment, of the Constitution, protects all citizens from Congress making laws that
respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the
freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the
Government for a redress of grievances. Most U.S citizens how this amendment, or at least a summary
of it, memorized. Citizens have the right to speak their mind as they sit fit, practice any religion, and
protest. However, in modern times, it is understandable to see why this is not entirely true. Court
decisions have put many restrictions on the liberties presented in the 1st amendment. A citizen cannot
use religion as an excuse for sacrifices, or protest in violent fashions. The most controversial, and
complicated, restrictions are those prohibiting certain kinds of speech. One of the Supreme is that
obscenity is not protected under the freedom of speech. A problem quickly raise was: what, exactly, is
obscenity? Under Miller v California, to be obscene a publication must, taken as whole, appeal to
prurient interest, must contain patently offensive depictions or descriptions of specified sexual
conduct, and on the whole have no serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value. It made sense
to ban specific types of speech that was, at the root, meant to be hateful or obscene. However,

First Impressions In Seventh Grade By Gary Soto
First Impressions How important are first impressions? Some people may think first impressions aren
t important. In fact, they are extremely important. First impressions are the way you first appear to
someone, it s the way they think of you. These impressions can affect you later in life. For example, in
Gary Soto s short story Seventh Grade Victor, a seventh grade student, really wants this girl, Teresa, to
be his girl. Teresa is in his French class. The class gets their first impression of Victor when Mr.
Bueller asked if anyone spoke French. Victor raised his hand, (37). Now everyone thinks Victor can
speak French. Later in the story Teresa asks if he will help her study, He was sweaty in shame, (38).
Since she thought he could speak French, once Teresa finds out he actually can t speak French their
relationship could be ruined. If first impressions are lies, not your true self, it can ruin your
relationships with others later. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Symbolism Of 1984
Kyle Doss Ms. Lowry Honors English 2 17 August 2015 Prompt One 1984 Winston Smith lives in a
country under complete totalitarian control. He is part of a poor city with little food and huge
pyramids. These pyramids are home to a party called Big Brother which uses surveillance cameras to
constantly watch its people and exercise its power. Winston s main attributes are his fatalism and
rebelliousness. Winston hates the Party passionately and starts to test the limits of its power. He has a
love affair with Julia one of his fellow workers and writes about his hate for Big Brother in his diary
and eventually joins the anti party brotherhood. The odd shape of Winston s room allowed him to sit
slightly out of the telescreens range so he could start writing his diary. By sitting in the alcove, and
keeping back, Winston was able to remain outside the range of the telescreen. He could be heard, of
course, but so long as he stayed in his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lowry Honors English 2 17 August 2015 Prompt Five 1984 Big brother is obviously the most
important symbol in 1984 because it s the face of the party and the leader behind the immense power.
The paperweight and Saint Clements Church are also very important symbols. The paperweight
represents his rebellion against big brother and takes him back to his childhood before the Party took
over, when you could have or do something just because it brings pleasure. Saint Clements Church
also represents his childhood memories before big brother came into power. Winston remembers a
couple of phrases from an old song based on Saint Clements Church. Oranges and lemons, say the
bells of St Clements s, you owe me three farthings, say the bells of St Martin s. George Orwell pg. 99
Later in the book the thought police discover Winston and Julia through a hidden telescreen behind the
painting of the church. The thought police raid them and the glass paperweight symbolically shatters
to the ground. Kyle Doss Ms. Lowry Honors English

Time In The Great Gatsby
The concept of time is mentioned in The Great Gatsby at least 450 times, through character names,
nouns, and occurrences. Time being such a heavily focused on subject in the novel shows how focused
F. Scott Fitzgerald was on showing the positives and negatives of making time an important aspect of
how life is perceived and lived. Fitzgerald s outlook on time is one of longing and regret, portrayed in
Gatsby s persona, actions, and hopefulness.
Gatsby is born a poor man with not much to show for himself in his early life, until he meets a rich
young lady who flips his world upside down. Daisy shows Gatsby her love built on broken promises
as she promises to marry him once he comes home from Oxford but ends up marrying Tom Buchanan
before Gatsby can be home to stop the wedding. Once Gatsby realizes this as he returns home, he
shapes his life around doing nothing but creating a world that would bring Daisy back into his arms
just like their younger days. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is insinuated that Gatsby did not make his money in the most ethical way when Tom shares that he
found what your drug stores were and explains that Gatsby and Wolfsheim purchased side street drug
stores and sold alcohol over the counter, which was illegal at the time (Fitzgerald 100). Gatsby covers
this scheme up with talk of inheriting his money from old family, but is not very consistent in his lies,
as Nick notices him use several different answers at separate times. I think he hardly knew what he
was saying when I asked him what business he was in he answered, That s my affair before he realized
that it wasn t the appropriate reply (Fitzgerald 103). While Gatsby may have been successful in his
illegal money affairs, this does not mean his efforts were not wasted on someone unworthy of the time
and money

that Maci is in labor with their child that they plan to name Maverick McKinney. She went into labor

same day as her daughter Jayde s birthday. Either way, they will have their birthdays really close

An Analysis Of Flannery O Connor s A Good Man
In Flannery O Connor s short story A Good Man is Hard to Find , the fate of the family is
foreshadowed within the very first few paragraphs. The grandmother in the story tries to convince the
family that going to Tennessee would be much more suitable for the family vacation not only because
had the children been to Florida before, but there is a criminal who has escaped from federal prison
and is headed that way (1076). She tries to inform her son, Bailey, and his wife of the convict who
claims himself as The Misfit, but the couple ignores her and the children suggest that if she is worried,
she should just stay home (1076). The second element of foreshadowing depicted in the short story is
seen when the grandmother hides her cat in a basket (1076). The grandmother is aware that the son
does not know about the cat and it may startle him or upset him later (1077). Alternatively to the first
two uses of foreshadowing, the third use is not seen until the family s encounter with Red Sammy,
when he informs the family about just how bad The Misfit is (1080). He tells them that he wouldn t be
surprised if The Misfit tried to rob him for two cents (1080). All of these tie together at the end of the
story and relate back to the grandmother. It can be assumed that if the grandmother would have stayed
home as John Wesley, her grandson had advised, that the family s fate would not have ended the way
that it did. While the parents and children hold the responsibility for choosing

Culture, Ethnicity And Gender Issues Within Psychology
The topic of culture, ethnicity and gender issues within psychology requires more attention;
particularly, within the therapeutic setting. It was refreshing to see that finally, within this chapter
these topics among other were finally being addressed in further depth than before. What was
particularly striking in this week s readings was the role of privilege and awareness.
In the article by Hernandez Wolfe and McDowell (2012), the idea to shift the focus on oppression to a
focus on privilege in counseling and psychology is imperative. After reading the article I find this
useful seeing that once this shift can be made, awareness of privilege and lack of privilege becomes
essential to help elicit action for change. Although it was mentioned that sometimes action is not
always achieved, the awareness piece is becoming increasingly important, especially in counseling
psychology. As mentioned in the article, moving from oppression, focused to privilege focused
reminded me a little of solution focused therapy. Focusing on the positives and strengths to elicit
change. Although privilege is not necessarily a strength, it is an important concept to focus on.
Understanding that, many people who do not have to experience a lack of privilege difficulties in the
therapy setting, in particular, it is important to address these issues. In addressing such privilege
issues, we as therapists can develop a more genuine, understanding, and collaborative relationship
with our clients. This

Summary Of Our Heroes Tale

Our heroes tale begins in the small magical community of Enchantia, situated deep within the
Enchanted Rainbow Forest, far away from normal civilization. This forest is thick with massive trees
that bare a multitude of differently coloured leaves and vegetation as far as the eye can see. Even
though the forest is expansive, the vegetation manages to remain fairly well kept, giving off a peaceful
and calm vibe. Scattered throughout the forest are large caves (some containing treasure!) and other
small animal communities. But, this story is not about the other communities, it is about Enchantia
and its residents. In particular, the small green dragon who goes by the name of Grassy, and her best

would take the day to prepare and leave by morning of the next day.
Come morning, the duo of friends were both very eager to embark on this adventure. Since there were
no maps of this secluded area, they decided that to start this adventure they would pick a direction and
just walk until they found something interesting. After a few hours of talking, walking, and occasional

I m not too sure I want to go in there Grassy, it looks pretty dangerous. What if we get hurt? Remarked
Fluffy.
Grassy, being the more courageous one of the duo, managed to convince Fluffy by reminding her, We

You know what Grassy, you re right. This cave looks rife with adventure! And so, they entered the
cave, leaving all worry and hesitation behind them at the entrance.

Essay On Dementia Diagnosis
Dementia was the leading cause of burden in older Australians in 2011 and the second leading cause
of death in Australia in 2013, making it a national health priority (1, 2). Timely diagnosis of dementia
is essential, as pertinent issues such as options for pharmacological management, prognosis and
Advanced Care Planning (ACP) can be addressed (3, 4). Despite this, multiple barriers hinder timely
dementia diagnosis, ranging from lack of knowledge in recognising dementia symptoms and time
constraints among medical professionals, to fear of stigma, thus resulting in delayed diagnosis (5, 6).
International guidelines such as the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE)
pathways in the United Kingdom (UK) advocate referrals to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Comparatively, this study shows a larger proportion of patients with dementia being diagnosed in
hospitals. It is important to acknowledge that sampling a population in a subacute hospital in this
study may potentially over represent this. However, it is somewhat concerning to have large
proportions of patients who are first diagnosed with dementia in a hospital setting, as this tends to
occur in the condition of acute medical illness, and may reflect on missed opportunities for earlier
dementia diagnosis when the patient is well, which may have enabled earlier

Social Inequality Essay
Social Inequality
What is social inequality? What are the sources of social inequality? For me, social inequality cannot
be described in one sentence. Factors such as race, wealth, class, gender, age, among others all play
roles into why people can sometimes be treated unfairly. However before I introspectively reflect on
social inequality, there is one theory that suggests where today s society is heading for me. Karl Marx
is known as a prominent economic and political influence that lived during the 19th century. Marx s
theory of stratification is very applicable to where society, especially in the United States, is heading
today. According to Marx, society would become divided into two classes, the dominant capitalist or

(Smeeding, Timothy) Some economists even refer to Russia and Mexico as developing countries.
Essentially the United States has the biggest economic gap among all developed countries. Why has
that occurred? CEO s, professional athletes, actors ect. make most of the money earned in this country,
leaving everyone else to work for them while they make a ridiculous income and the workers settle for
just enough to have a modest lifestyle. The other day I was watching a film that promoted a similar
theme to what I am trying to convey. The production was called In Time starring Justin Timberlake
and Amanda Seyfried. Basically instead of money people were paid in time that they had left to live.
In the movie we see a huge disparity in how different people live based on how much time they had.
The important figures in their society used the time they had to manipulate everyone else because they
could afford to give some away. This represents how money is influential in today s culture. Through
outlets like social media, advertisements, and important public figures having money is portrayed as
being paramount. However the opposite, if someone is living in poverty, something must be wrong
with them or they aren t as valuable to the community. To create a successful, tolerant, and synergistic
society money cannot determine someone s worth to society. Obviously

Aristotle Moral Responsibility Essay
According to Aristotle, we are morally responsible for our actions. Through the analysis of notions
and concepts such as responsibility in terms of voluntary/involuntary actions, incontinence, and
intemperance, we can further understand Aristotle s stance, which is that we are morally responsible
for our actions, and character. I will not only be exploring Aristotle s views, but also the views of Dr.
Dian Hsieh, and Jonathan Barnes, who both reconstruct an argument for moral responsibility from
Aristotle s work. In addition, I will also contrast aspects of Aristotle s view on moral responsibility,
with Jean Paul Sartre s views on the matter as portrayed in Existentialism Is A Humanism, in an
attempt to improve upon and reveal potential problems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this needs further proof, consider the practice of rewarding and punishing: if men weren t in control
of their behaviour, there would be no point in rewarding and punishing them. But here s a possible
objection: if I am a thoughtless or careless sort of man, then I can t effectively control my behaviour.
That is no excuse, says Aristotle, because you are responsible for having turned into that man. We
influence the development of all aspects of our personalities by how we choose to spend our time, and
what we choose to do; it is obvious that gambling produces gamblers, and military exercises produces
bravery. Although I cannot be a different sort of man just by deciding to, I remain responsible for
encouraging myself to become the sort of man I have become, just as I cannot stop the stone that I
threw at you, although I remain responsible for having thrown it. Aristotle is confident in holding bad
men responsible for their wickedness, and believes that any argument that could absolve them of their
badness would also deprive good men of their goodness.

the Batman. His mission is to rid the many criminals that preside over Gotham and to bring these
tyrants to justice. As he says in the Dark Knight film, I m going to show the people of Gotham that the
city doesn t belong to the criminals and the corrupt. In one scene, Wayne speaks to a woman and she

The majority of practitioners prove their competence every day, working diligently and ethically in the

Supplying the U.S. with mainly agricultural and forest products, the Philippines was forced to import
most manufactured items from the U.S. Industrial growth virtually grounded to a halt during this
period.
Post independence, the Philippines economy swirled through a dizzying cycle of boom and bust.
During the 1950s, the country tried to become an industrialized nation with the policy of import
substitution, where domestic goods are substituted for imports. However, these protectionist measures
had a negative effect in the long term leading to inefficiencies and misallocation of resources. For that
period during the 1970s, however, economic growth spurted. The Philippines is rich in human and
natural resources, it seemed then that the Philippines was destined to become one of Asia s real
superpowers. However, the overwhelming power of corruption tainted its leaders, and the Philippines
struggled under Marcos long rule. By 1981, the nation was heavily in debt, the country was facing
problems making payments on its international loans, and poverty was endemic as economic and
democratic institutions collapsed. Plunged into a deep recession in the 1980s, the Philippines suffered

Vernier Gas Pressure Lab Report
In this lab, I worked with three other partners: Alexis Koch, Scott Webb, and Nicholas Coffey. In the
first portion of the lab, our goal was to discover the relationship between pressure and volume. We
began the experiment by plugging in the Vernier computer interface and the Vernier Gas Pressure
Sensor to the computer and started the Logger Pro software. We prepared the 20 milliliter gas syringe
to be placed into the Vernier Gas Pressure Sensor by putting approximately 12 milliliters of air into it.
We did this to easily maneuver the syringe to different amounts of volume. We began to collect data
from the Logger Pro at various amounts of volume from 1 to 20 milliliters. We recorded 239.59,
227.50, 122.50, 100.50, 83.05, and 63.03 kPa at 0, 5, 10, 12, 15, and 20 milliliters. From plugging my

The other portion of the lab was finding the relationship between pressure and temperature. We started
the experiment by constructing the device in which we would us to record the pressure at different
temperatures. We prepped for the experiment by turning on the hotplate and giving it time to heat up,
putting water into a large beaker, plugging the temperature Probe into the computer, placing the rubber

TECHNOLOGY IN THE FIFTIES (1950 1959) The 1950s or The Fifties was a decade that was full
of events that gave new ideas and inventions. The decade was prosperous for the American people and
entrepreneurs because the economy was booming. However, as the economy was booming still they
were major conflicts associated with United States internally in the country and externally. For
example, some of the biggest conflicts were the Cold War between the Soviet Union, clashes between
communism and capitalism, Korean War, Red Scare (fear of communism) in United States. Still with
all those conflicts, in United States the progress in science and technology was on peak.
Arguably, the first greatest and most influential invention of the 20th century the Television publicly
placed for sale in markets in 1940s had originally made real maturity in the 1950s. People started to
buy large screen television sets because in the 40s there were only small television screens. In 1952,
RCA introduced the CTC 1, the first color television to utilize the NTSC (National Television System
Committee) video standard. The introductions were still too expensive for most people in that decade;

  • 2. Emotion, Memory, And Decision Making Emotional arousal appears to have a huge effect on processing, memory, and decision making. For memories specifically, we tend to rehearse and review episodes of intense emotions frequently, allowing them to be stronger and more relevant memories (Gluck, 2014). Flashbulb memories suggest that emotion can greatly increase memory coding, though is still subject to misattribution errors. Still, evidence suggests that emotion can boost memory encoding (Webbe slides). When creating emotional experiences in a story against a non emotional story, explicit memory was strengthened by emotion (Webbe slides). These factors influence the way memory of stored, but an effect known as mood congruency of memory effect how memory is retrieved. This effect states that it is easier to retrieve memories based on our current mood. In this way, people who are depressed and asked to recall memories will recall sad ones, and people asked to recall episodic memories from neutral nouns would recall memories that match their current mood states (Webbe slides). Life stressors can impact the development or retrieval of memory, resulting in distorted or false memories. This could result from psychological stress or trauma, resulting in functional amnesia. Additionally, guided imagery or hypnosis recovered memories can be distorted, resulting in false memories and can make it difficult to distinguish false memories from recovered ones. Emotional memory is processed by the amygdale, and damage to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Response To Emperor Worship Emperor Worship Response Emperor worship began as early as the time of Egyptian Pharaohs like that of King Horus, the divine ruler over the whole Egypt (Dollinger, 2017, p. 1). Tracing emperor worship from the Pharaohs and the Ptolemies, Sparta, and Alexander the Great provided evidence of the enormous influence it had on the Roman emperors. When Rome conquered the East, the same divine honors were transferred to the Roman proconsuls (Burton, 1912, p. 80). Acceptance of the imperial cult by Roman rulers in Asia Minor and Greece was far reaching and attributed to Alexander the Great s legacy. However, he was not regarded as a god. It was Antiochus IV who accepted the honor of being recognized as a divine king. Afterward, a long line ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1). Emperor worship was entirely unacceptable to the Jews. It was during the time of King Herod the Great that emperor worship began in Palestine. Herod the Great thought he should be worshiped as others esteemed as deities. He devised a plan to find baby Jesus and have Him killed so that he would continue to be recognized as the King of the Jews. However, it was not God s plan, and Herod died without knowing the whereabouts of baby Jesus. The imperial cult reached its peak of popularity in the 2nd century and in the 4th century began to lose its religious relevance. The decline of imperial cult worship was attributed to the rise of Christianity. As Christianity became the formal worship, emperor worship died. Certain customs that came about during the emperor worship era, such as kneeling before the Emperor or his statue, was still practiced. In the provinces, priests of emperor worship still functioned but their function became more political than religious. Hostility remained between the Jews and Christians toward the Roman emperors. The Roman emperor, Caligula, demanded his statue be set up in synagogues and in the temple of Jerusalem. The Jews were in an uproar and made many attempts to defy the order, but before Caligula could totally enforce his order, he died. After his death, there were no more attempts from Rome to enforce the order and emperor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Duty In Aeneas The Roman concept of duty was central to nearly everything they did and was tied closely to their belief in the gods. This was especially true for Aeneas; his sense of duty drove his entire journey. The Roman concept of duty essentially included loyalty to one s family and to the gods, which ultimately becomes one s duty to his fate. Aeneas, the depiction of the ideal Roman man, was very loyal to his family. Aeneas finds it of utmost importance during his journey to visit his father in the underworld before settling with his people in what would eventually become Rome. Aeneas wants to get advice and counsel from his father because he values his opinion, but, more than that, Aeneas knows that one of the most important things in his life is his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fate is often personified in ancient literature because it is a driving force behind many people s journeys and actions. The same was true for Aeneas. His duty to the gods was tied closely to his duty to fate and to destiny. Basically, the reason for all of Aeneas journey is tied to his fate. Aeneas had been told by the gods that he was to found a great city which would grow and become an empire Rome. Aeneas even placed his duty to fate above his own desires and passions. When Aeneas visits the underworld and sees his former lover, Dido, there, Aeneas frantically tries to appease her and explain why he had to leave her. He explains, I left your land against my will, my queen./ The gods commands drove me to do their will (6.244 245). Aeneas was destined to found Rome, and despite his own longing to stay with Dido, his duty to the gods and to fate trumped his own desires. However, Aeneas duty to the gods and their will was also a positive thing. After Vulcan gave Aeneas the shield which depicted the great feats of his descendants in Rome, Aeneas was motivated and proud. The shield showed many of his descendants passionately fighting for Rome, such as Augustus Caesar leading into battle/ Italians, with both senators and people (8.91 92). Aeneas remained faithful to the gods and to his family by persevering through difficulties, remembering his family, and fighting battles ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Screwtape Letters Analysis The Screwtape Letters The Screwtape Letters is a thought provoking book that details how easily humans are ensnared by the Enemy. The enticement of the world seems so appealing to human, however, C.S. Lewis makes it very clear that the enticement in the world is only temporary, and is ultimately a tactic of the Enemy. Often times, temptation creeps into our minds unexpectedly, but temptation s effects are deadly. The Enemy will stop at nothing to tempt us, but God s Word says that He will not tempt you beyond what you can bear, and when temptation comes, God will provide a way out (1 Corinthians 10:13). Throughout the Screwtape Letters, the character Screwtape writes letters to his nephew, Wormwood. The reader is propelled into the life of the Patient; and Screwtape makes it clear to Wormwood that he must stop at nothing to get the Patient from focusing on his relationship with God, and this becomes the motivation and obsession behind every note Screwtape writes. However, Screwtape does not only tell Wormwood to tempt the Patient in only one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Screwtape also tries to use lust as a distraction in the Patient s life. Being that the Patient is young and unmarried, Screwtape is to highlight lusts to keep his burning desire to be for women, and not for the One who gave him life. This approach was very clever, but believers must realize that the weapons we fight with are not the weapons of this world. Not only that, but Screwtape encourages Wormwood to not let the Patient s Christianity shine through. That being said, the Patient would become self conscious about his relationship with God, thus getting him to focus on self. This tactic, however, is nothing new. Satan tries nothing new, but it is important for us to know how to resist the devil, and that is through prayer, and the reading of God s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay On Copernicus Nicolaus Copernicus started out as just an ordinary person. In fact, according to today s standards of intelligence, he was below average. Who knew that Copernicus would later become one of the most intelligent people in the world. Copernicus changed the way that people during the Renaissance viewed astronomy. Copernicus changed history as we know it today and if it wasn t for him, today s astronomers may still be theorizing about the basic facts of our solar system. Nicolaus Copernicus was born on February 19, 1473 in Poland. His parents, Nicolaus and Barbara, were leading merchants and parented four children, Copernicus being the youngest. Then, when Copernicus was around 10 to 12 years old, his father died and his brother, Lucas, took his nephew under protection and was soon to become bishop of ... These books also led Copernicus to most of his discoveries and the making of a few books himself such as De revolutionibus . In this book, Copernicus described viewing the Moon Eclipse stating it was, the brightest star in the eye of the Bull . Copernicus had only 27 recorded observations in his lifetime though he most likely had more than that. He viewed eclipses, planets, stars, and much more. That may not seem very impressive today but, for Copernicus time period, it was quite a discovery. Copernicus wrote his book, De revolutionibus , it was only published the year of his death in 1543. The reason for his book with priceless information about our solar system to be published so late was that it was controversial and many other theorists disagreed with Copernicus claims. • 7. The Amendment Is Not Protected Under The Freedom Of Speech... The first amendment, of the Constitution, protects all citizens from Congress making laws that respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Most U.S citizens how this amendment, or at least a summary of it, memorized. Citizens have the right to speak their mind as they sit fit, practice any religion, and protest. However, in modern times, it is understandable to see why this is not entirely true. Court decisions have put many restrictions on the liberties presented in the 1st amendment. A citizen cannot use religion as an excuse for sacrifices, or protest in violent fashions. The most controversial, and complicated, restrictions are those prohibiting certain kinds of speech. One of the Supreme is that obscenity is not protected under the freedom of speech. A problem quickly raise was: what, exactly, is obscenity? Under Miller v California, to be obscene a publication must, taken as whole, appeal to prurient interest, must contain patently offensive depictions or descriptions of specified sexual conduct, and on the whole have no serious literary, artistic, political or scientific value. It made sense to ban specific types of speech that was, at the root, meant to be hateful or obscene. However, Indianapolis legislator, in American Booksellers Association v. Hudnut, used ... • 8. First Impressions In Seventh Grade By Gary Soto First Impressions How important are first impressions? Some people may think first impressions aren t important. In fact, they are extremely important. First impressions are the way you first appear to someone, it s the way they think of you. These impressions can affect you later in life. For example, in Gary Soto s short story Seventh Grade Victor, a seventh grade student, really wants this girl, Teresa, to be his girl. Teresa is in his French class. The class gets their first impression of Victor when Mr. Bueller asked if anyone spoke French. Victor raised his hand, (37). Now everyone thinks Victor can speak French. Later in the story Teresa asks if he will help her study, He was sweaty in shame, (38). Since she thought he could speak French, once Teresa finds out he actually can t speak French their relationship could be ruined. If first impressions are lies, not your true self, it can ruin your relationships with others later. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is part of a poor city with little food and huge pyramids. These pyramids are home to a party called Big Brother which uses surveillance cameras to constantly watch its people and exercise its power. Winston s main attributes are his fatalism and rebelliousness. Winston hates the Party passionately and starts to test the limits of its power. He has a love affair with Julia one of his fellow workers and writes about his hate for Big Brother in his diary and eventually joins the anti party brotherhood. The odd shape of Winston s room allowed him to sit slightly out of the telescreens range so he could start writing his diary. The paperweight and Saint Clements Church are also very important symbols. The paperweight represents his rebellion against big brother and takes him back to his childhood before the Party took over, when you could have or do something just because it brings pleasure. Saint Clements Church also represents his childhood memories before big brother came into power. Winston remembers a couple of phrases from an old song based on Saint Clements Church. Time being such a heavily focused on subject in the novel shows how focused F. Scott Fitzgerald was on showing the positives and negatives of making time an important aspect of how life is perceived and lived. Fitzgerald s outlook on time is one of longing and regret, portrayed in Gatsby s persona, actions, and hopefulness. Gatsby is born a poor man with not much to show for himself in his early life, until he meets a rich young lady who flips his world upside down. Daisy shows Gatsby her love built on broken promises as she promises to marry him once he comes home from Oxford but ends up marrying Tom Buchanan before Gatsby can be home to stop the wedding. This is all happening on a crazy day because it happens to be her other daughter s first birthday. The Ashley s Reality Roundup shared the details about Maci going into labor today. Her fiance Taylor confirmed that Maci is in labor with their child that they plan to name Maverick McKinney. • 12. An Analysis Of Flannery O Connor s A Good Man In Flannery O Connor s short story A Good Man is Hard to Find , the fate of the family is foreshadowed within the very first few paragraphs. The grandmother in the story tries to convince the family that going to Tennessee would be much more suitable for the family vacation not only because had the children been to Florida before, but there is a criminal who has escaped from federal prison and is headed that way (1076). She tries to inform her son, Bailey, and his wife of the convict who claims himself as The Misfit, but the couple ignores her and the children suggest that if she is worried, she should just stay home (1076). The second element of foreshadowing depicted in the short story is seen when the grandmother hides her cat in a basket (1076). The grandmother is aware that the son does not know about the cat and it may startle him or upset him later (1077). Alternatively to the first two uses of foreshadowing, the third use is not seen until the family s encounter with Red Sammy, when he informs the family about just how bad The Misfit is (1080). He tells them that he wouldn t be surprised if The Misfit tried to rob him for two cents (1080). All of these tie together at the end of the story and relate back to the grandmother. It can be assumed that if the grandmother would have stayed home as John Wesley, her grandson had advised, that the family s fate would not have ended the way that it did. • 16. Culture, Ethnicity And Gender Issues Within Psychology The topic of culture, ethnicity and gender issues within psychology requires more attention; particularly, within the therapeutic setting. It was refreshing to see that finally, within this chapter these topics among other were finally being addressed in further depth than before. What was particularly striking in this week s readings was the role of privilege and awareness. In the article by Hernandez Wolfe and McDowell (2012), the idea to shift the focus on oppression to a focus on privilege in counseling and psychology is imperative. After reading the article I find this useful seeing that once this shift can be made, awareness of privilege and lack of privilege becomes essential to help elicit action for change. Although it was mentioned that sometimes action is not always achieved, the awareness piece is becoming increasingly important, especially in counseling psychology. As mentioned in the article, moving from oppression, focused to privilege focused reminded me a little of solution focused therapy. Focusing on the positives and strengths to elicit change. Although privilege is not necessarily a strength, it is an important concept to focus on. Understanding that, many people who do not have to experience a lack of privilege difficulties in the therapy setting, in particular, it is important to address these issues. In addressing such privilege issues, we as therapists can develop a more genuine, understanding, and collaborative relationship with our clients. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Factors such as race, wealth, class, gender, age, among others all play roles into why people can sometimes be treated unfairly. However before I introspectively reflect on social inequality, there is one theory that suggests where today s society is heading for me. Karl Marx is known as a prominent economic and political influence that lived during the 19th century. CEO s, professional athletes, actors ect. make most of the money earned in this country, leaving everyone else to work for them while they make a ridiculous income and the workers settle for just enough to have a modest lifestyle. The other day I was watching a film that promoted a similar theme to what I am trying to convey. The production was called In Time starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. Basically instead of money people were paid in time that they had left to live. In the movie we see a huge disparity in how different people live based on how much time they had. The important figures in their society used the time they had to manipulate everyone else because they could afford to give some away. This represents how money is influential in today s culture. Through outlets like social media, advertisements, and important public figures having money is portrayed as being paramount. I will not only be exploring Aristotle s views, but also the views of Dr. Dian Hsieh, and Jonathan Barnes, who both reconstruct an argument for moral responsibility from Aristotle s work. But here s a possible objection: if I am a thoughtless or careless sort of man, then I can t effectively control my behaviour. That is no excuse, says Aristotle, because you are responsible for having turned into that man. We influence the development of all aspects of our personalities by how we choose to spend our time, and what we choose to do; it is obvious that gambling produces gamblers, and military exercises produces bravery. Although I cannot be a different sort of man just by deciding to, I remain responsible for encouraging myself to become the sort of man I have become, just as I cannot stop the stone that I threw at you, although I remain responsible for having thrown it.
