The Crucible Tone
The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, revolves around the Salem witch trials of the 15th century. Much of what precedes
the play portion of the novel is dedicated to establishing the background of the novel. This passage, in specific, sets
the tone of the novel as it describes the ideology of the witch hunts, and how they came into effect. The passage
summarizes the fundamental ideas of the witch hunts as a paradox stating, The witch hunt was a perverse
manifestation of the panic which set among the classes when the balance began to turn toward greater individual
freedom (Miller 11). These words are an important part of the novel because it lays out a groundwork which the rest
of the ideas and concepts that are brought up in the novel will build themselves upon. Simply put, it sets the tone for
the rest of the novel. It describes the fears that the characters have, and what conflicts they will undergo. For
instance, signs of mob mentality can be gleamed from the passage. This can be seen when it says, balance has yet to
be struck between order and freedom (Miller 11).

Internet Privacy
The concern about privacy on the Internet is increasingly becoming an issue of international dispute. ?Citizens are
becoming concerned that the most intimate details of their daily lives are being monitored, searched and recorded.?

threat to privacy comes from the construction of e commerce alone, and not from state agents. E commerce is

As the saying goes, necessity is the mother of invention. With literally no marketing budget, startups are forced to
seek the optimal and probably most basic way of seeking customers: Focus on who they are and where they are. You
can t spend millions of dollars to build your brand name and mindshare before influencing the consumers to
purchase your product. So, what do you do? You tweak your product until it meets their needs and you hit the viral
button to make growth sky rocket exponentially. It is a matter of survival for startups. You have no luxury of time
nor money as it is a matter of life and death for your business. The whole company is focused on the same goal: Get
the product right for the customers to justify the existence of the startup.
We now have a term for this: Growth Hacking. This term was coined by Sean Ellis in 2010 where he blog about a
growth hacker as a person whose true north is growth. Everything they do is scrutinized by its potential impact on
scalable growth . This term was introduced by Andrew Chen to

Hispanic Groups and Discrimination
Running Head: HISPANIC GROUPS AND DISCRIMINATION
Hispanic Groups and Discrimination
Abstract
This paper discusses the immigration of Hispanics to the United States in which they faced prejudice, segregation
and racism. We will discuss such topics as dual labor market, affirmative actions, quotas, instructional
discrimination, reverse discrimination, glass ceilings, glass walls and glass escalators. Hispanic workers are among
the fastest growing segments of the U.S. labor force, said Jesse Caballero, Senior Career Advisor for
empleosCB.com, a subsidiary of CareerBuilder.com focused on online job search for the Hispanic community. They
are also among the two groups reporting the highest levels of severe discrimination in the ... Show more content on

Both services seek to ensure that, in terms of race and ethnicity, the group of officers commissioned in the year 2000
roughly reflects the overall population: 12 percent African American, 12 percent Hispanic, and 5 percent Asian.
Department of the Navy officials point out that this represents a significantly more aggressive goal than had been the
case, when the focus for comparison had been on college graduates; the more aggressive goal implies vigorous
outreach and other efforts. Moreover, the Navy and the Marine Corps have set specific year by year targets for
meeting the 12/12/5 goal. (1995) When taking affirmative action, one must be careful not to establish quotas. This
would start to become the glass ceiling, glass walls, or glass escalator. When a corporation, military, or business
starts to promote unqualified minorities to fill a quota, that is just a bad and discriminatory as being racist or
profiling. There has been great strides taken to counter discrimination in all ethnic groups, but there is a long way
ahead of society. I can identify with the minority groups. A study was conducted by Alfred W. and Ruth G.

discriminated against in employment throughout the country.

Symbolism in A Worn Path by Eudora Welty
Using symbolism can take your story to a whole new level by showing us how each character feels in additional it
can make a person or even an objects stand out a whole lot more. In Eudora Welty they used symbolism in many
different ways that you can even notice them right away. In Eudora Welty A Worn Path is a short story where
symbols are found everywhere throughout many places where you read. This short story is about an old woman
named Phoenix Jackson whom was a black African American that was compared to a mythical Arabian bird, and
actually that bird lived up to five centuries in desserts and after living those five centuries it would burn up; and then
from those same ashes it would then be reborn and it would start from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Around Jackson s time racism was really tough , white people were mean, but with that, she still did not stopped
from going to where she was heading. As she now continued with her walk through the woods a dog came out of
nowhere barking and made Phoenix fall into a ditch where she could not get out of there on her own. That is when
another dog came along but this dog had an owner which was the White Hunter, and he had a gun with him. He was
sort of a nice guy to help her get out of the ditch. Phoenix was a skin colored woman, so the hunter decided to play
her a little game since she was colored and old. He thought he was better than her based on the skin color that he
even talked to her in a really mean way, thinking he would actually scare her. So the gun he was carrying along with
him made him want to make a little joke on Phoenix and pointed at her aiming right to her head right there and then.
This implies how Phoenix shows him no fear for any second he stand in front of her, yet she only showed him even
more courage. Seem like there is chains about my feet, (also a symbol for the recent memory of slavery.) the white
hunter never saw Phoenix as in equal woman, on other words he saw himself as something much better and bigger

Causes Of Migration
What are migration patterns? Migration patterns are the movement by people from one place to another with
wanting to settle down. The movement is usually over a long distance and/or from one country to another. Human
patterns of movement are because of the conditions of a changing world and the impact of the cultural landscapes of
both the places people migrate from and the places they settle. What is migration? Migration is the movement of
people from one place to another. What is immigration? Immigration is the international movement of people into a

While the people who migrated from Asia usually came through the West Coast. Around 70% of the people came
through New York City, which caused New York City become known as the Golden DOOR for immigrants. From
the 17th to the 19th century, many African people were brought over illegally to the United States as slaves. Around
the 19th century, the United States also received around 5 million German migrants. In 1960, mainly Italian people
migrated. During the middle of the 18th century, there were also many Asian immigrants. In 2010, people from
China mainly migrated to the United States. From 2010 to around 2015, most immigrants who migrated over to the
United States were mainly Mexicans or Latin Americans. In the early 20th century, the people who migrated were
mostly Europeans. During the age of mass migration (around 1850 1913), more than 30 million people migrated to
the United States.

Pro Life
Be the change you wish to see in the world is a great quote to live by because it guides you to help others and make
an impact. I use this quote to guide my life personally because I want to be able to use what I believe in, and my
goals to make a change. Abortion is a very common debate in the world, and it has been this way for hundreds of
years. There are two main arguments when it comes to abortion, most people are either Pro Life or Pro Choice.
People that are pro life are against abortions and believe that every human life has equal worth and should have the
opportunity to live. While people who are pro choice believe that women should have the choice to decide if they
wanted to keep the child that they had growing inside of them or if she wants to terminate the pregnancy. I am pro
life because I believe that abortions are used as a way out of something that people are in no hurry to try and
prevent. I think that as a society we focus on sex as a thing that everyone does and that makes young adults think
that they need to be joining what everyone is doing. This ends up creating a child that neither the mother nor the
father are capable of taking care of, and the mother feels her only way out of the situation is to terminate the
pregnancy in the form of an abortion. I want my impact on the world to be less of a ... Show more content on

Essay about The Physics of Car Collisions
Basic Concepts
Issac Newton was the first to state the concepts that are necessary to understanding the physics of collisions. His
three laws are used again and again in all the fields of physics:
Newton s 1st Law
In the absence of external forces, an object at rest remains at rest and an object in motion remains in motion with a
constant velocity.
This law can be best observed in space, far from the gravity of a star or planet, where there is no friction or air
resistance. If, in the middle of deep space, you give a rock a little push, it will continue with the direction and
velocity you gave it forever. The only way to stop it is to apply a force in the opposite direction. This law is not
intuitive because we are surrounded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every single action has an equal and opposite reaction. If you were standing in the middle of a perfectly slick frozen
lake, and needed to get off, you could throw an object away from you. When you applied force to the object you
threw, it also applied an equal force pushing you back. You would travel in the opposite direction from the throw,
although slower, because you probably have mass more than the object you threw.
Static and Kinetic Friction
Friction is a key concept when you are attempting to understand car accidents. The force of friction is a force that
resists motion when two objects are in contact. If you look at the surfaces of all objects, there are tiny bumps and
ridges. Those microscopic peaks and valleys catch on one another when two objects are moving past each other.
This explanation is a little simplified. There are other processes at work, including chemical bonding and electrical
interactions.
The level of friction that different materials exhibit is measured by the coefficient of friction. The formula is µ = f /
N, where µ is the coefficient of friction, f is the amount of force that resists motion, and N is the normal force.
Normal force is the force at which one surface is being pushed into another. If a rock that weighs 50 newtons is
lying on the ground, then the normal force is that 50 newtons of force. The higher µ is, the more force resists motion
if two objects are sliding past each other.

Huntington s Theory Of The Clash Of Civilization By Samuel...
The clash of civilization is a theory by Samuel Huntington. In this theory, Huntington claims that the clash is
inevitable. There is a new world order we are facing that include major civilization, fighting for their cultural
existence. On the other hand, many scholars opposed Huntington s theory about the clash of civilization some of
them called him a great theorist using recycled conflicts as a method. In this paper, I will summarize Huntington
theory and ideology and I will show why I think Fukuyama was right.
Huntington s main idea is that the fundamental source of conflict between civilization will not be primarily
ideological or economic, Huntington believes that the conflict will be based on cultural differences which will

The conflict is becoming more cultural but we cannot make one democratic entity called the west and make it as a
dominate system and force its values and liberalism on other countries. These kinds of attempt were tried in Vietnam
back in the 60 s, when the United States tried to enforce its liberal democratic system on communistic system.
Another example of the failure of enforcing the Western values and culture is the second invasion of Iraq in 2001,
The united states tried to make Iraq a democratic entity. As Fukuyama claimed, the traditional existence of
civilizations is threatened by modernization. In that case, other civilization will develop much deeper hate and
dislike towards one dominant democratic entity called the West.(Fukuyama, 2001)

How Does Heathcliff The Seeker For Justice
Justice can be viewed in so many ways for the righteousness of others. Many principles have this understanding in
using it for their own. In the book of wuthering heights, there was many response to the mistreatment and mischief

think Heathcliff was the seeker for justice. In the beginning, Heathcliff was a lost child, where he was adopted to a

Summary Of Sleuthing The Alamo
Sleuthing the Alamo is a very interesting book written by James E Crisp that was published in 2005. The book
focuses on talking about unveiling the myths that occurred during the Texas revolution. Myths such as Davy
Crockett s death are explained in this book which is probably the centerpiece of this text. Not only does it unveil
some myths but it tells us some anecdotes that happened back then. James E Crisp reveals this information by using
reliable sources such as books, documents, paintings, films and among others. The story begins with the author
telling us what The Alamo meant to him and also naming the heroes of the Texas Revolution. He explains that there
was a deep segregation in his hometown of Henrietta as he was growing up he never talked to an African American
kid until he was attending college. Since he was just a child he didn t really understand why people of color were
treated differently or looked down upon. Sadly discrimination also happened within his family as he states that Not
taking blacks seriously as individuals and at the same time reacting to their incongruous presence with hysteria
(either comedic or tragic) was a major part of our way of life. (p.16).
During 1992 he was in process of completing an article laying out his revisionist case and during this process he
encountered something that made him feel disappointed. What the author encountered was a racist speech by Sam
Houston who was James Texas boyhood idol, which according to Crisp

How Did James Weldon Johnson Impact The Harlem Renaissance
The Harlem Renaissance was a time period where African American influencers of the arts found cultural identity in
a white domain in the city of Harlem New York. The Harlem Renaissance is the rebirth of African American culture
in the United States. The rebirth of the African American Culture was not limited to Harlem, because it also took
root in other places, such as Washington DC, Chicago, and Illinois. The positive culture of the Harlem Renaissance
pointed out some of the injustices African Americans were experiencing throughout the United States, and it was
portrayed in their literary arts. Original leaders in the Harlem Renaissance included James Weldon Johnson. James
Weldon Johnson was one of the first publishers of contemporary black poetry of the 20th century. The name of the
book he published titled The book of American Negro Poetry was a reflection of the writings of African American
poets in the 1920s. James Weldon Johnson helped revitalize African American culture through his literary works and
poetry; the Harlem Renaissance continues to influence the African American culture through the literary arts, poetry,
and the influence of the originators of the Harlem Renaissance. James Weldon Johnson impacted the Harlem
Renaissance through his literary works. One of these works is known today as The Black National Anthem.
(Johnson), created in the 1900 s. The Black National Anthem was written in celebration of Abraham Lincoln s
birthday, and it became originally titled as the Negro National Anthem as stated by the National Association for the
Advancements of Colored People(NAACP). Since then it changed to The Black National Anthem. The words in the
anthem symbolised the racism African Americans encountered. The anthem was a way of showing patriotism and
hope for the future, sung today in churches, assemblies, and black events throughout the nation. One empowering
part in the anthem is We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered, Out from the gloomy
past, Till now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast. In reality, Johnson states that
throughout history, African Americans have been slaughtered, beaten, and tortured. African American s are a

For my biography project, I chose to research Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev. A man of many accomplishments,
and bold decisions that shaped a country unlike ever before. A man who lived by the words If not me, who? And if
not now, when? Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev
Early Life: Mikhail Gorbachev was born on March 2nd, 1931 in Privolnoye, Russia. He was born into a peasant
Russian Ukrainian family, his father worked as a combine driver on government owned farms, likewise his mother
showed tireless work ethic with her lifelong toil on a collective farm. Mikhail experienced the famous Soviet famine

Just a year later, Gorbachev had become the youngest member of the Politburo. The Politburo is the executive
committee for a number of communist political parties. The first ever Politburo was created by the Bolshevik party
in 1917. Gorbachev worked closely under General Secretary Yuri Andropov watching how he succeeded in the
Politburo. When Andropov died, Gorbachev was quick to replace him for the position that he so closely eyed.
Unfortunately Mikhail lost to Konstantin Chernenko, nevertheless Mikhail wouldn t give up for what he worked so
hard for. 13 months later Chernenko died, opening the doors for Gorbachev to become the General Secretary of the
Politburo at the very young age of 54. He was the only general secretary in the history of the Soviet Union to have
been born during Communist era.
Milestones: Gorbachev had many awards and accolades during his lifetime, but none were as great as becoming the
General Secretary of the Politburo in 1985. Mikhail wouldn t stop at just that, he felt that the country could be better,
be greater than what it was at the current moment in time. Gorbachev realized that the Soviet Union s economy and
country morale was seriously suffering from the excessive spending on nuclear weapons during the Cold War.
During his time as General Secretary he had a strained relationship with American president Ronald Reagan.

Comparing Prometheus And Atlas
Many a few have heard of Atlas, the almighty titan. After the gods of olympus, led by Zeus defeated the titans, Atlas
was charged to eternally bear the weight of the world on his shoulders. To be a bit more specific, Atlas was
mandated to keep apart the heavens and the Earth. This was the predicament of a number of titans at the hands of
Zeus and the other Gods. For example, Prometheus, creator of the Earth is tortured eternally. Every Day, a
murderous phoenix attacks him and steals his liver, and everyday, his liver grows back so that he suffers the pain
each and every day. Well, both Prometheus and Atlas helped our beloved hero Hercules with his 12 labors. His
eleventh labor was to retrieve some golden apples from the Garden of Hesperides. However, this garden was

Hercules was well aware of this and tried to find help. He was told by a group of Nymphs to find Prometheus. They
said that if Hercules were to kill the Eagle that returned everyday to torture Prometheus, he would in return tell him
how to complete his task. So, Hercules set off to find Prometheus. After slaying the murderous bird, Hercules was
informed that Atlas was his best chance at procuring some golden apples. So Hercules again set off in search of
Atlas. Hercules struck a deal with Atlas. It basically said that Hercules would bear the burden of Atlas for a short
while, meanwhile Atlas would enter the garden and get the apples for Hercules. After Atlas had successfully made it
back with the apples, he told Hercules that he would just take them to Eurystheus himself. Hercules slyly agreed, but
asked if Atlas could hold it long enough for Hercules to place some padding on his shoulders to help with the load.
But Hercules took the apples and ran without looking back and returned to Eurystheus with the apples prepared to
tackle his final labor before he was accepted into Olympus as a God. And Atlas was left to bear the weight of the
heavens forever in

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT OF INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES
The airline industry, like many other industries, is increasingly exposed to competition. Increased competition has
two effects on firms: it creates downward pressures on output prices, and it creates incentives for improving
productivity and efficiency. Many airlines have been forced to undertake major restructuring in order to meet these
challenges. Many researchers have used different model to decompose changes in airline profitability into two
components: productivity and price recovery ability. The study concluded that increased competition in international
air transport markets has put pressures on carriers ability to raise prices. However input prices, like labor, fuel,
materials, flight equipment, ground property and equipment have been increasing. They also demonstrated that
airlines have made tremendous effort to improve efficiency to counteract such trends, yet large fluctuations in
profitability are still an ongoing reality. Due to these fluctuations in airline fortunes, early warning systems of
imminent distress are of benefit to management and airline stakeholders such as creditors and investors. No

Childhood Obesity Is A Common Problem
Childhood obesity is a medical condition of being overweight or obese. This condition has continued to grow and
increase over the past five decades. In the US alone there are more than three million cases per year. For one to be
obese it means that the individual is significantly overweight for their age and height. The way to tell if someone is
obese or overweight is by a BMI, which stands for body mass index. Being overweight is defined as having a BMI
that is at or above the 85th percentile to the 95th percentile for children and teens. Childhood obesity is a common
problem in America today and changes need to be done to save the future youth from having these health problems.

Another reason being lifestyle that is taught to children by their parents. Some blame can be put onto parents if they
do not lead their children into an active healthy lifestyle. Many children tend to either live a vigorously active
lifestyle or sedentary lifestyle, which is greatly influenced by their parents. A bad habit in diet can also induce the
chances of childhood obesity. For example, Beverages such as sugar sweetened beverages (SSBs) and whole fat
milks are leading sources of added sugars and solid fats, respectively, in the diets of US children and contribute
nearly one fifth of total caloric intake. (Ford and Popkin, 47 53) This explains how many sugary drinks are
incorporated into young children s diets and can be very unhealthy for them. Most children love sugary drinks, but
these drinks can have a negative impact on their diet causing them to gain unwanted excess weight. One way to help
this is by monitoring the amount of sugar a day they consume. For example, One of the best strategies to reduce
childhood obesity is to improve the eating and exercise habits of your entire family. (Sandhya) This shows how
small changes in children s diets and lifestyle could result in many beneficial outcomes for children who suffer from
this. Childhood obesity has received many efforts of improvement, but hasn t had enough results. Many businesses

Meerkats
Meerkats: Standing Tall
Steven Fetherolf
Strayer University
Introduction
Standing tall, the small animal scans the sky for predators, his neck extended and head swiveling side to side, ever
diligent in the search for anything that may prove a threat to his group of fellow meerkats. At his fullest height, he
barely reaches 12 , the average of an adult male in his species. What is this strange animal, looking similar to a
mongoose or an elongated squirrel and sporting black bandit markings around its eyes that are vaguely reminiscent
of a raccoon? What does anyone know of this incongruous, oft overlooked creature, whose comparable significance
to more exotic animals is virtually unknown? If you have watched the television channel ... Show more content on

This tolerance to venom ensures that the meerkat has little competition for its diet and further allows them to
maintain a steady, plentiful supply. Due to the harsh, water scarce deserts in which meerkats live, finding adequate
water supplies is nearly impossible and when present, water is dominated by larger animals that consider meerkats
to be a meal. Therefore, the meerkat must make use of available moisture and obtains its requirements primarily
through its diet.
It has been observed that a gang of meerkats will inhabit underground burrows consisting of numerous entrance and
exit holes, multiple sleeping and birthing chambers, and having hundreds of feet of tunnels branching off in several
directions, which give them the ability to escape predators who invade their homes. An average gang s burrow may
have well over fifteen separate dens and it should be noted that the number of areas provide them the opportunity to
rotate their use every three to four weeks. This rotation is a result of parasite (ticks, ants, fleas) overload, making
living conditions both unsafe and unsanitary. Once the parasitic levels have reached a reasonable level, meerkats
will re inhabit the dens. At least one chamber within the burrow is reserved as a bathroom, or litter box, serving as a
safe place for relief of bodily functions. It is extremely unsafe for a meerkat to exit the burrow at night to relieve
themselves, so having a

Angela s Ashes Modernism Essay
Modernism took place in the late 19th century and early 20th century, more specifically the years following World
War I ( Modernism in literature 1). The novel Angela s Ashes, written in 1996, is considered a work of modernism.
Writers often talked about historical events, due (feeling) that they were at the end of history. ( Modernism 504).
Writers of this time period were heavily influenced by the war, and the political events going on. Major writers
were; T.S. Eliot, William Faulkner, James Joyce, Ezra Pound, and others. All of their writings incorporated accurate
portrayals of the world through experience and interior monologue ( Modernism 504) and did not write about the

Sir Winston Churchill Essay
Sir Winston Churchill
Introduction Few leaders stand out in the history of the twentieth century more than Sir Winston
Churchill. Remembered mainly as Great Britain s prime minister who led the first successful stand against Adolf
Hitler s Nazi Germany, he showed the world the importance of democracy and liberty by leading the battle against
fascism and dictatorship. Churchill appeared headed for greatness even at his birth in 1874; his grandfather was the
first Duke of Marlborough and his parents were Lord Randolph
Churchill and Jennie Jerome, the American daughter of the New York Times proprietor.
The first step towards being a great leader was not to rely on his family s achievements, but to forge his own path to

Soon, he was assigned to social policies, where he earned his reputation as a social reformer, setting up

trenches in the World War. In modern history, few men of Churchill s importance have risked their lives on the
battlefield. But his values were truly tested when
England stood actionless while Adolf Hitler slowly threatened the freedom of Europe.
Great Britain, worried about economic recovery from the depression, chose to appease
Hitler rather than arm the military in case of a German strike. Churchill, ever the opponent of tyranny, warned
repeatedly of Hitler s rise in power. Germany finally fulfilled Churchill s prophecy by invading Poland on
September 1, 1939. When Churchill replaced Neville Chamberlain as Prime Minister in 1940 he was immediately
faced with two choices; continue the war, therefore pushing Britain further into debt, as well as inflicting thousands
of English casualties, or attempt to negotiate with Hitler. Negotiation may have saved thousands of British soldiers,
but millions would have paid the price in Hitler s pursuit of a purified Europe. Ultimately, Churchill not only backed
the continued war effort, but through many rousing public addresses, gained needed support. Towards the end of his

Internal Conflict In Anthem By Ayn Rand
There has always been a slight apprehension towards being alone or standing alone. Students rarely want to admit to
having an answer different from the rest of their classmates; some people do not want to go somewhere and do
something by themselves. Notably, with more shy or anxious people, they will often stick around someone they
know, so they will not be alone in the crowd. Although that company might help them make it through those nerve
wracking moments, when is the right time for them to walk alone? Should a person ever walk alone? In Ayn Rand s
Anthem, Equality s internal conflict of conformity versus individuality plays a role that Equality needs to overcome
in order to complete their quest for freedom which helps create their outcast archetype and gives significance to the
final word of the novel.
The internal conflict in Anthem plays a role within the novel by providing the complication that the protagonist,
Equality, has to overcome in order to complete their quest. Equality is on a quest for freedom and for knowledge,
even though it will separate them from their brothers. From the beginning of the novel until the third chapter,
Equality notes how they commit transgressions against their society, such as preference, and how they are different
from their brothers, an example being Equality s height of 6 feet tall. In the third chapter, Equality more or less
accepts their fate of being alone, even though the internal conflict still silently lurks in the

Essay on Marriage Proposal in Pride and Prejudice
Marriage Proposal in Pride and Prejudice
During Pride and Prejudice there are six examples of marriage proposals to consider. Throughout this essay I am
going to be commenting on the proposals between Mr Darcy and Lizzie the first time, Mr Collins and Lizzie, Mr
Collins and Charlotte as well as Mr
Bingley and Jane, Wickham and Lydia and the second proposal of Mr
Darcy to Lizzie. Whilst looking at these proposals I will also be analysing the aspects of Love, Money, the relative
status and class and the views of others, which might have influence within these proposals. The first proposal I am

In vain I have struggled. It will not do. My feelings for you cannot be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how
ardently I admire and love you.
However to Mr Darcy s surprise Lizzie refuses his proposal as she will only marry for love and she doesn t love Mr
Darcy and she also is outraged with Mr Darcy at the insults towards her family. Just before the proposal Lizzie also
found out that Mr Darcy had separated her sister and her love, Mr Bingley by persuading him to move back to
London, which infuriates Lizzie even more. Lizzie says to Mr Darcy.
You are mistaken, Mr Darcy, if you suppose that he mode of your declaration affected me in any other way, than as
it spared me the concern which I might have felt in refusing you, had you behaved in a more gentlemen like manner.
This quotation showed how much Lizzie really despised him at that moment in time by questioning his gentlemen
like manner, which was a big thing for men in those days.
The second proposal I am going to look at is Mr Collin s to Lizzie. Mr

Birth Of Samson Research Paper
Samson is the Bible s Hercules; since he is known as a great man of superhuman strength. Samson was the last of
the judges of the ancient Israelites. There were three judges who ruled Israel. The judges were Ibzan, Elon, and

Compare And Contrast Han And Roman Attitude Towards...
DBQ on Han and Roman attitudes toward technology
The Han dynasty and Roman empire lasted through periods of enlightenment where new ideas and concepts were
brought up. Although in slightly different time periods, the Han and Romans both experienced an influx of new
technology that changed their ways of life. The Han s attitude toward technology and labor was very open and
optimistic. On the other hand, the Roman attitude towards technology and labor was relatively more strict and they
didn t really see technology as something enlightened .
The Han Dynasty viewed technology as essential in various ways. Documents 1 and 2 show how technology is an
essential thing and that although it is great, government intervening must take place to assure everything goes to
plan. Document 1 mentions some organization and order that s needed to make sure everything works, and
document 2 mentions how the workers are using crude brittle tools and need to get new tools that are in good
condition so they can work more efficiently. Both of these documents may have a slight bias considering both of
them are written by Han government officials and they might want to get higher positions and this may influence

To do this, you need to divide the top and the bottom number by the same number to get a smaller whole number on
both parts of the fraction. This fraction can then be simplified as follows: 12/88 ÷ 4 = 3/22 This fraction cannot be
simplified any further as 3 and 22 cannot both be divided by the same number. Decimal To express Monday s traffic
as a decimal we find the fraction that represents the proportion we are looking for. Using or previous calculation,
this gives us 12/88 or 3/22 To convert a fraction into a decimal, divide the top number of the fraction by the bottom
number ie 3 ÷ 22 = 0.13 (or 12 ÷ 88 = 0.13). Percentages To work out percentages, all you need to do is work out the
decimal and move the decimal point two places to the right. This is the same as multiplying it by 100. Using
Monday s figures again, this would be applied in the following way: 0.13 1.30 13.0 13% So, to work out a

then move the decimal point two places to the right. Using Monday s figures again this can be simplified as: 12 ÷ 88

The Nature Of Religion In Robinson Crusoe
Robinson Crusoe is much more than a novel that focuses on the religion of its fictional character Crusoe, it s a
philosophical investigation into the nature of religion. By looking through the philosophical works that preceded
Daniel Defoe s novel we can see how it ponders the questions of its time and presents a metaphor of the
development of morality, economics and religion. Both, the ideas presented by Thomas Hobbs and Bernard
Mandeville s An Enquiry into the Origin of Moral Virtue will serve us well in understanding where Defoe is coming
from and how he is actually developing upon theses philosophies. Defoe boldly takes the ideas of his time and
applies them to religion in a way that perhaps his contemporaries were afraid to. He posits that religion is an
economic construction developed to help us cope with our condition. In many ways Defoe s novel asks questions
that were far ahead of their time. To begin this investigation, we must look to the text to find evidence that more is
going on here than simple faith.
The biggest problem with Crusoe s faith is that it s generally not present during his day to day life. He only prays
when he needs something or is terribly fearful of death, then after he overcomes his trial he practically forgets the
Lord all together. The first chapter of the book has Crusoe praying for salvation from a nautical storm, he sees his
survival as a sign to never go back out to sea again. Yet, in the same chapter he blows off his recent religions
resolution claiming to be but a young sailor, and had never known anything of the matter (52). Crusoe s religious
fickleness carries on throughout the novel but each act of coming back to God in fear can also be seen as an act of
repentance. This repentance doesn t distract from the novel as a religious allegory, but it does reveal the selfish
nature of man. At its core Robinson Crusoe is a novel about our origins and base desires. As many have suggested,
by placing a man alone on a deserted island Defoe recreates the savage man in his state of nature that both Hobbes
and Locke were so concerned with philosophizing over before Defoe wrote his novel.
Philosophers of the late 17th and early 18th century were questioning the nature of

Descriptive The picture books are spread out across the table, with their vibrant colors and hard covers. I take in all

Spalding s World Baseball Tour laid the roots of the new empire and exemplified the United States onto the world

Themes Of Princess Mononoke
Princess Mononoke, released in 1997, was the highest grossing film in Japan until Titanic came out later that year. It
was supposed to be Hayao Miyazaki s last film before he went into retirement, again (spoiler alert, he came out of

s themes and influences, one that relates Shintoism to Miyazaki s narratives by Oscar Garza, and another that
focuses on the icons found throughout his filmography by Mohammad Amzad Hossain and Wei Hsin Fu.
First a quick summary: Princess Mononoke follows the last prince of the Emishi, Ashitaka, who when defending his

The Role Of Mercy Killing In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
When a person, puts another person out of their misery to save them is called mercy killing. George Milton and

For instance, signs of mob mentality can be gleamed from the passage. This can be seen when it says, balance has yet to be struck between order and freedom (Miller 11). ... With literally no marketing budget, startups are forced to seek the optimal and probably most basic way of seeking customers: Focus on who they are and where they are. You can t spend millions of dollars to build your brand name and mindshare before influencing the consumers to purchase your product. So, what do you do? You tweak your product until it meets their needs and you hit the viral button to make growth sky rocket exponentially. It is a matter of survival for startups. You have no luxury of time nor money as it is a matter of life and death for your business. The whole company is focused on the same goal: Get the product right for the customers to justify the existence of the startup. We now have a term for this: Growth Hacking. His three laws are used again and again in all the fields of physics: Newton s 1st Law In the absence of external forces, an object at rest remains at rest and an object in motion remains in motion with a constant velocity. This law can be best observed in space, far from the gravity of a star or planet, where there is no friction or air resistance. If, in the middle of deep space, you give a rock a little push, it will continue with the direction and velocity you gave it forever. The only way to stop it is to apply a force in the opposite direction. This law is not intuitive because we are surrounded ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every single action has an equal and opposite reaction. If you were standing in the middle of a perfectly slick frozen lake, and needed to get off, you could throw an object away from you. When you applied force to the object you threw, it also applied an equal force pushing you back. You would travel in the opposite direction from the throw, although slower, because you probably have mass more than the object you threw. Static and Kinetic Friction Friction is a key concept when you are attempting to understand car accidents. The force of friction is a force that resists motion when two objects are in contact. If you look at the surfaces of all objects, there are tiny bumps and ridges. Those microscopic peaks and valleys catch on one another when two objects are moving past each other. This explanation is a little simplified. There are other processes at work, including chemical bonding and electrical interactions. The level of friction that different materials exhibit is measured by the coefficient of friction. The formula is µ = f / N, where µ is the coefficient of friction, f is the amount of force that resists motion, and N is the normal force. Normal force is the force at which one surface is being pushed into another. If a rock that weighs 50 newtons is lying on the ground, then the normal force is that 50 newtons of force. The higher µ is, the more force resists motion if two objects are sliding past each other. There are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The book focuses on talking about unveiling the myths that occurred during the Texas revolution. Myths such as Davy Crockett s death are explained in this book which is probably the centerpiece of this text. Not only does it unveil some myths but it tells us some anecdotes that happened back then. James E Crisp reveals this information by using reliable sources such as books, documents, paintings, films and among others. The story begins with the author telling us what The Alamo meant to him and also naming the heroes of the Texas Revolution. He explains that there was a deep segregation in his hometown of Henrietta as he was growing up he never talked to an African American kid until he was attending college. Since he was just a child he didn t really understand why people of color were treated differently or looked down upon. Sadly discrimination also happened within his family as he states that Not taking blacks seriously as individuals and at the same time reacting to their incongruous presence with hysteria (either comedic or tragic) was a major part of our way of life. Due to the harsh, water scarce deserts in which meerkats live, finding adequate water supplies is nearly impossible and when present, water is dominated by larger animals that consider meerkats to be a meal. Therefore, the meerkat must make use of available moisture and obtains its requirements primarily through its diet. It has been observed that a gang of meerkats will inhabit underground burrows consisting of numerous entrance and exit holes, multiple sleeping and birthing chambers, and having hundreds of feet of tunnels branching off in several directions, which give them the ability to escape predators who invade their homes. An average gang s burrow may have well over fifteen separate dens and it should be noted that the number of areas provide them the opportunity to rotate their use every three to four weeks. This rotation is a result of parasite (ticks, ants, fleas) overload, making living conditions both unsafe and unsanitary. Once the parasitic levels have reached a reasonable level, meerkats will re inhabit the dens. At least one chamber within the burrow is reserved as a bathroom, or litter box, serving as a safe place for relief of bodily functions. It is extremely unsafe for a meerkat to exit the burrow at night to relieve themselves, so having a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Sir Winston Churchill Essay Sir Winston Churchill Introduction Few leaders stand out in the history of the twentieth century more than Sir Winston Churchill. Remembered mainly as Great Britain s prime minister who led the first successful stand against Adolf Hitler s Nazi Germany, he showed the world the importance of democracy and liberty by leading the battle against fascism and dictatorship. Churchill appeared headed for greatness even at his birth in 1874; his grandfather was the first Duke of Marlborough and his parents were Lord Randolph Churchill and Jennie Jerome, the American daughter of the New York Times proprietor. Soon, he was assigned to social policies, where he earned his reputation as a social reformer, setting up unemployment pay, as well as a job placement service. Later, after a temporary resignation in 1916, he fought in the trenches in the World War. In modern history, few men of Churchill s importance have risked their lives on the battlefield. But his values were truly tested when England stood actionless while Adolf Hitler slowly threatened the freedom of Europe. Great Britain, worried about economic recovery from the depression, chose to appease Hitler rather than arm the military in case of a German strike. Churchill, ever the opponent of tyranny, warned repeatedly of Hitler s rise in power. Germany finally fulfilled Churchill s prophecy by invading Poland on September 1, 1939. When Churchill replaced Neville Chamberlain as Prime Minister in 1940 he was immediately faced with two choices; continue the war, therefore pushing Britain further into debt, as well as inflicting thousands of English casualties, or attempt to negotiate with Hitler. Negotiation may have saved thousands of British soldiers, but millions would have paid the price in Hitler s pursuit of a purified Europe. Ultimately, Churchill not only backed the continued war effort, but through many rousing public addresses, gained needed support. Towards the end of his life Churchill once again ... • 26. Internal Conflict In Anthem By Ayn Rand There has always been a slight apprehension towards being alone or standing alone. Students rarely want to admit to having an answer different from the rest of their classmates; some people do not want to go somewhere and do something by themselves. Notably, with more shy or anxious people, they will often stick around someone they know, so they will not be alone in the crowd. Although that company might help them make it through those nerve wracking moments, when is the right time for them to walk alone? Should a person ever walk alone? In Ayn Rand s Anthem, Equality s internal conflict of conformity versus individuality plays a role that Equality needs to overcome in order to complete their quest for freedom which helps create their outcast archetype and gives significance to the final word of the novel. The internal conflict in Anthem plays a role within the novel by providing the complication that the protagonist, Equality, has to overcome in order to complete their quest. Equality is on a quest for freedom and for knowledge, even though it will separate them from their brothers. From the beginning of the novel until the third chapter, Equality notes how they commit transgressions against their society, such as preference, and how they are different from their brothers, an example being Equality s height of 6 feet tall. In the third chapter, Equality more or less accepts their fate of being alone, even though the internal conflict still silently lurks in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. The Nature Of Religion In Robinson Crusoe Robinson Crusoe is much more than a novel that focuses on the religion of its fictional character Crusoe, it s a philosophical investigation into the nature of religion. By looking through the philosophical works that preceded Daniel Defoe s novel we can see how it ponders the questions of its time and presents a metaphor of the development of morality, economics and religion. Both, the ideas presented by Thomas Hobbs and Bernard Mandeville s An Enquiry into the Origin of Moral Virtue will serve us well in understanding where Defoe is coming from and how he is actually developing upon theses philosophies. Defoe boldly takes the ideas of his time and applies them to religion in a way that perhaps his contemporaries were afraid to. He posits that religion is an economic construction developed to help us cope with our condition. In many ways Defoe s novel asks questions that were far ahead of their time. To begin this investigation, we must look to the text to find evidence that more is going on here than simple faith. The biggest problem with Crusoe s faith is that it s generally not present during his day to day life. He only prays when he needs something or is terribly fearful of death, then after he overcomes his trial he practically forgets the Lord all together. The first chapter of the book has Crusoe praying for salvation from a nautical storm, he sees his survival as a sign to never go back out to sea again. Yet, in the same chapter he blows off his recent religions resolution claiming to be but a young sailor, and had never known anything of the matter (52). Crusoe s religious fickleness carries on throughout the novel but each act of coming back to God in fear can also be seen as an act of repentance. This repentance doesn t distract from the novel as a religious allegory, but it does reveal the selfish nature of man. At its core Robinson Crusoe is a novel about our origins and base desires. As many have suggested, by placing a man alone on a deserted island Defoe recreates the savage man in his state of nature that both Hobbes and Locke were so concerned with philosophizing over before Defoe wrote his novel. Philosophers of the late 17th and early 18th century were questioning the nature of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
