Fast Foods And Fast Food Essay
Fast food is one of the easiest ways to get food and eat it in a hurry. More people have been eating fast
food rather than eating at home for years. The rate of fast food consumption has not slowed in over
fifteen years (North). Americans in today s society are busier than they have been. With people being
busy they cannot find an easy way to make dinner, so they go to fast food restaurants to get food on
the go. Many Americans also believe they are too busy to go shopping for groceries. Being busy is not
the only thing that makes people eat fast food on the go. Why are numerous Americans eating fast
food and not homemade food? Fast food is convenient and cheap for people who do not have time to
cook or if they are too lazy. Advertisements encourage Americans to eat fast food as well.
American lives have changed over the years, and eating habits have too. With people having jobs with
schedules they can barely work around, fast food is a must for them to get a meal in a time crunch.
More people prefer to get food on the go rather than take the time to make homemade food. Home
cooked meals are slowly dying due to people being busy and choosing to eat fast food. More people
today stop at fast food restaurants to get the food they can eat anywhere if they are on the run. When
people go out of town for the weekend, fast food is an easy meal to eat in the car. Fast food is also an
easy meal to eat while shopping in a hurry.
Fast food is not only cheap it is convenient; most of

The First Major Theory Of Personality
The first major theory of personality is the Psychoanalytic Theory of Personality and was created by
Sigmund Freud. Freud s observations lead him to conclude that many mental disorders were caused by
psychological factors. This was what lead him to create the Psychoanalytic Theory of Personality. This
theory is very different from the other theories and it is based on three assumptions. The first
assumption is that all psychological events have a cause which is known as psychic determinism. He
believed that child experiences, like parenting, have a major influence on adult personality. He
believed that dreams, and Freudian Slips reflected what people truly thought and felt. The second
assumption is that all actions are meaningful. Simple things that you do not think about as having
meaning are considered symbolic of something else. The third assumption, which is known as
unconscious motivation, explains that we rarely ever understand why we do what we do. We still
attempt to make up an explanation for this act even though we do not understand why we did it. Freud
s view of the mind is often thought of as an ice berg. The ego makes up the conscious mind. The ego
also known as the boss is the main decision maker. The ego s decisions are determined by the reality
principle. The reality principle waits to express certain emotions, thoughts, or actions until it can find
an appropriate outlet. The id is completely submerged under water. The id holds our most crude
thoughts. Most

Beating on Against the Current Essay
Beating On Against the Current Each of us inevitable Each of us limitless each of us with his or her
right upon the earth, Each of us allowed the eternal purports of the earth, Each of us here as divinely
as any is here (Whitman 27). From out of the jazz soaked streets of New York City, arose a group of
young poets and writers overwrought with the opportunity of their lives, and endeavored to capture its
girth through the honesty and vulnerability of their words. These young bohemians would later lead
the Beat Movement, which inspired young Americans throughout the county in their search for
something more than the consumerism and conformity that plagued their society. Jack Kerouac s On
the Road is a transcendent work that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many found the bleakness and insignificance of modern society enough to merit both withdrawal and
protest.
Throughout On the Road, the influence of the Beat movement s ideals on Kerouac s writing is overtly
apparent. As the narrator meanders up and down the country, both the main characters , and the lone
hitch hikers they pick up contain an attitude of restlessness which can be seen in their actions and
speak. While hitching a ride from a farmer, as Sal and Dean prepare their story to tell the man, he
stops them simply asking, You boys going somewhere, or just going? This so elegantly captures the
internal state of the author coming out bluntly in the work. The beat idealism heavily places
importance on personal discovery in any way possible, not necessarily knowing what that path looks
like only knowing that you must travel to reach it. Kerouac was distraught with the complacency of
living in one place, and set out with no real place to go, and as he writes in response to the farmer we
didn t know the answer to the question, but it was a damn good question (Kerouac).
The 1940 s, post war America was looking up, the Great Depression was just coming to an end, but
along with those that so eagerly bought into the consumerism of the time, arose a nation s youth that
was alienated, restless, and dissatisfied. looking for something to experience in a, frenzied pursuit of
extreme exacerbation of the nerves . (Patrick Julian).

The Twilight Zone Analysis
Rod Serling s The Twilight Zone, reflected the time it was created and the years that followed.
Showcasing the not so black and white version of humanity and all that it entailed. Touching on the
effects of the Cold War and the insecurities it brought to American society. Through this outlet in
television, he was allowed to express his thoughts on the outlook that people were too afraid to speak
about, lest being called out as a traitor or a communist. Almost, blatantly disagreeing with the
McCarthyism if not exposing the idea of how ridiculous it was to question if your neighbor was
patriotic or not. Rod brought up the anguish and blatantly obvious scenarios that would precede
mutually assured destruction. The show s debut and following success ... Show more content on

Halakha, Jewish Religious Law And Religious Commandments
Halakha by definition is Jewish religious law, encompassing both civil and religious commandments
and prohibitions. The word Halakha stems from the root meaning to walk. Halakha involves the study
of law and customs in the Jewish religion. According to rabbinic law it must be performed to sanctify
all life and attain redemption. This idea when introduced was a collection of rabbinic commentaries
from the Hebrew bible or the torah. The importance of halakha among Judaism and its trends, ideas,
theories etc. is the fact that halakha is trying to integrate itself into the world and not just strictly deal
with Jews but integrate itself into the world of non Jews. Halakha is derived from the oral and written
torah. The laws can cover many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Responsa are the answers to questions Jews posed in the ancient days, the questions not addressed by
halakhic law but questions posed in everyday life. The importance of responsa in Judaism is the fact
that we have a physical database so to speak on questions about Judaism or about practices, we have
somewhere where the rabbis answered questions posed by the gaon and Jews of the era and even
though they won t correlate with some questions and situations we go through today as modern Jews
in America, the basic questions of Judaism and basic concerns would be covered by the rabbis of the
ancient times. The Talmud has many response within it, they cover business ethics, ethics, customs,
etc. The most posed questions and answers to the responsa would be rules about ordinary incidents of
life.

Lending a Helping Hand Essay
Lending a Helping Hand
There have always been organizations that provide help for the needy. Now the economy is going
through a downward spiral giving these institutions a greater importance in helping the lives of those
who need it. Miami County residents have seen firsthand that some people who live in this area really
need the help. The statistical evidence shows that Miami County, Indiana is being affected by the
economy. The average salary of a resident in Peru, Indiana ends up being $28,487. (Indiana) That
number may not seem profound, but when you have a family to support, the budget gets tight. The
normal wage annually for a resident in the state of Indiana is $45,434. (Indiana) That makes it roughly
38% more money than what Miami ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, hunger only makes up for a small part of the complications that poverty brings. Without enough
money, how does someone suppose to afford to live in a house? Though most Miami County residents
do not see homeless people, does not hide the fact we have people living without a home. Peru is not a
big city like New York, or Los Angeles, but no matter where you are at in America, there will always
be those who cannot afford to rent or own any type of housing.
Even if everyone could afford some type of housing to live in, it does not mean they can afford all the
necessary utilities. Air conditioning is not a necessity, but someone might not have enough money to
provide a fan. The cost for utilities such as electricity for a fan to keep the cool in the summer heat, or
simply having running water might be a problem for someone with little to no income. With winter
approaching even some people will have to go without heat in the Miami County area.
Helping Hands is a Non Government and Non Profit organization in Miami County. Hershel Manhart
was a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul in Peru when he began to do research to determine if there was
a need for a food pantry. He started his research in 2000 and within two years determined there was
definitely a need for one. Helping Hands was founded in 2002 by Hershel. (Manhart) It is run by
volunteers from the area and provides many solutions to the dilemmas of poverty. Some of the

Okonkwo s Foil
Opposites attract. This is a very cliché quote used by physicists and other scientific personnel, but it
rings true in many different ways. In literature, the correct term for a character that sets off or
enhances another character by contrast is called a foil. Pairs of characters that are foils to each other
have very opposing views and personalities, but their presence with each other illustrates the qualities
in a better light. The book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a fictional novel which includes a
main character named Okonkwo. Okonkwo has some very distinguishing features about him, but the
fact that he has a foil in the novel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Okonkwo explains to Obierika how he would strive to have a son like his because he is so
strong and mighty, Obierika answers with a very pacifying response. You worry yourself for nothing,
said Obierika. The children are still very young. (Achebe 66). This passage shows that Obierika is not
so concerned about power and supremacy.
Because of the contrast in Obierika s traits, he is definitely a foil to Okonkwo because Okonkwo is
very strong minded, dogmatic, and hot tempered. If something does not go his way, Okonkwo will do
something very irrational about it. When Okonkwo asked his second wife where his third wife,
Ojiugo, was he became angered because his second wife lied to him about Ojiugo s whereabouts. He
walked back to his obi to await Ojiugo s return. And when she returned he beat her very heavily
(Achebe 29). Okonkwo s rationale of beating his third wife was in very poor judgment because he
beat her during the Week of Peace. The Week of Peace was a week among the tribes where there was
supposed to be no violence. This shows that Okonkwo has a very short temper and he does not tolerate
nearly as much as Obierika can tolerate.
Not only does Okonkwo differ from Obierika in the fact of their personality traits, but Obierika is a
foil to Okonkwo because of Okonkwo s hunger for power. Okonkwo himself was known as the most
powerful man in his village because he threw Amalinze the Cat, who was a great wrestler who had

What Was The Influence Of The Baroque Period
The Baroque Period, much like the barocco pearl that it was named after, did not just spring up out of
nowhere. It was cultivated through time by different factors that developed the beautifully dramatic,
grandiose and theatrical style we know today. To start off, the sector of religion must be of the most, if
not the most, significant influence that helped the growth of the period. This is said because of the
effects that had been brought about the Council of Trent in 1545, taking place after the Reformation. It
was an ecumenical council of clergymen, mostly bishops, of the Roman Catholic Church which aimed
to combat the heresies made by the Protestants via reforms within the Church in addition to the
revision and strengthening of their canon. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Renowned sculptor, painter and architect, Gian Lorenzo Bernini translated the Baroque philosophies
into his many works. In his masterpieces, specifically his sculptures, he believed in showing passion,
decadence, movement, drama and contrasting forms and shadows different from the static and
conventional styles of previous periods, like the Renaissance style. Bernini s earlier works Apollo and
Daphne and Rape of Persephone commissioned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese between 1621 and
1625 are great examples of the Baroque style of sculpture. They showed dramatic emotion and
movement along with differing forms and stories through the interplay of light and shadow. These
works impacted society by showing a different and radical change in the forms found in sculptures,
setting up the style for future Baroque sculptors. Spectators are also encouraged to move , in a sense,
to view the sculpture in all angles to establish a full grasp and understanding of all its parts, shapes
and shadows providing a change from conventional static and straightforward sculptures of past

Analysis Of Touching Spirit Bear By Ben Mikaelsen
The novel Touching Spirit Bear, by Ben Mikaelsen. This story follows the life of a juvenile delinquent
named Cole Matthews. He gets into trouble when he bashes Peter Driscals head into a sidewalk,
which makes him receive a harsh punishment. It is either prison or an island supported by the Circle
Justice. While he is on the island, he experiences a mauling from The Spirit bear, a mythical creature
that lives on the island. Now, Cole is having to not only has to heal physiologically, but physically on
the island he was mauled on. Cole can never truly heal unless he helps someone else. In this case, he
needs to help Peter.
First reason, you will have regret.
The text states, I think Peter should come to the island (Mikaelsen 206). This is after Cole realized he
had regrets for hurting Peter, which finally started to weigh him down in his healing process. Compare
Cole from the beginning of the book, and Cole now. Since he is starting to realize his issues, he is
growing more and more regret. This is going to halt the healing process. Which is why you need to
help someone, to vanquish the regrets. This proves without helping someone else you will have regret,
not allowing for you to heal. Because the regret Cole felt, would always linger in ... Show more

starts helping Peter, he starts to understand why Edwin took him to the pond. He gets a different
perspective and sees it was better than it was. This helps him understand how he has been healing.
This proves that helping others can give insight to your healing process. Meaning you do need to help
someone else in order to fully heal. Cole needed to see that the steps he took to get better are really
useful, and he saw the value by seeing how it affected

Technical School Job
Another option was technical school, but even if I enrolled in some kind of vocational school, the road
to success would still be very problematic, for even having a technical job in the area still kept you as
the working poor, given that the prices for almost everything in the New York City metro area,
including the New Jersey side where we lived were high. Housing prices such as rent (never mind
mortgages) were high, car insurance rates were high, tolls were high and practically everywhere,
parking prices in the city were just ridiculous, and even public transportation costs would add up. In
one sentence, hourly salaries were just not keeping up with the rising cost of living in general. Years
later as my wife Jackie and I talked about what it is like to live in that area the thought that occurred to

The Nazi Party and The Holocaust Essay
The Holocaust was a terrible time. This terrible time was all a plan, led by Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler
was sent to prison for treason. Even after he got out, he worked with the government of Germany. He
even rose to be the Dictator of Germany, with the luck of the last leader s passing. He blamed others
for his struggle. He passed laws, to make it legal to descriminate and to single out groups of people,
races, and religions.
During the Holocaust, terrible and devistating things happened. Jews, and other races, religions, and
eve people were singled out and killed. A E s History of the Holocoust would call it a mass murder.
Hitler and his men killed millions of people. They killed them in many desturbing ways. Camps were

Innocent people s rights and state of being were taken away by these terrible men. Knowing about
their struggle and the racism, shows us that racism is an extreme problem, and is something bad to get
into.
What Hitler showed numerous amounts of time is a good lesson for everybody. This lesson, is more
directed towards the governments. Hitler showed major abuse of power. He started off as making
descrimination legal, and then moved on to killing people. He not only did this as a plan, but he did
this rather quickly.
The Holocaust was of course, a very depressing time for many people in the world. Nobody ever
wishes to see anything like it again. That is why we study it, we study to remember. We want to
remember all of the bad things. Remembering the bad things, is not to bring hurt, but to bring back our
courage to fight. It is also to help us recognize how the nation felt and responded to the chaos.
Looking back at that time period, and the events that consisted with in it, we must never let it happen
again. Learning, is also helping prevent another Holocaust. The nation may be better prepared now,
but we don t want to have to use our preparation against something as bad as it was.
We, the world did not, and will not leave anyone responsible for the war crimes to not be punished.
They were responsible for the death and for the heartache of half the world. We also learn about the
Holocaust to learn how we get justice.

A Letter To Associated Students Of Western Oregon University
Dear Associated Students of Western Oregon University, Rex Fuller
When I decided to go to Western Oregon University, I knew I was going to a small school, and I
wanted that. I know only 5,382 students go to Western and that is not much bigger than my high
school. The reason I came was for the Western for the WOU women s rugby team. When I came to
WOU, I expected more support from the school and am very disappointed. Did you know that the
Western Oregon women s rugby team has gone to the conference finals three years in a row? And in
2015 and 2016, they were back to back champions? Yet the rugby team and other clubs get little to no
funding and support from the university.

WOU could easily become one of the top schools in the country for rugby. All the rugby program
would need is more support from the university. In fact, this is an excerpt from a NCAA article about
rugby:
For all institutions, it is an economical way to offer a popular women s athletic activity for current and
incoming students. To field a women s rugby team, the basic needs include: 1) a pool of existing or
incoming students that want to play, 2) a coach, 3) a soccer sized field for practice and competition,
and 4) developing a schedule with local, regional and national competitive opportunities.
WOU already has all of those things and a club that is already performing at a high level, yet, rugby is
not considered a sport by the university.
By support, I do not necessarily mean money. All though money would be nice because rugby runs all
their own fundraisers and gets no financial support from the school. Currently the rugby teams
compete with the lacrosse teams for a field to practice on. Even when the rugby teams are allowed to
practice, the field is double or triple booked, meaning they have a small half or quarter of the field to
practice on. In fact, most nights the football field is completely unoccupied. If the rugby teams and
lacrosse teams could use the football field or other empty fields, there would be less frustration about
practice time. Clubs aren t even allowed to use the empty weight rooms on campus. This forces the
club teams to try and use the

The Pros And Cons Of Globalization In Bolivia
Globalisation is, the process by which businesses or other organisations develop international
influence or start operating on an international scale. We have crossed a boundary with globalisation
that we can not revert. Our cultures have become so homogenised, with Mcdonalisation, wearing the
same brands like Nike and listening to Ed Sheeran no matter where we are in the world. It could be
said that it would be impossible to go back to a world before globalisation. However it also has to be
said that some nations such as Bolivia are rejecting globalisation and still remain a still remain a
global contender in global markets for example. It would be inaccurate to say that it would be
impossible to live in a world with no globalisation.

Evo Morales was elected president of Bolivia in 2006. He is a socialist leader and therefore rejects the
idea of globalisation, and though many experts argued this would hurt Bolivia economically, we now
know this is not the case. On his hundredth day in office, Bolivian President Evo Morales moved to
nationalise his nation s oil and gas reserves, ordering the military to occupy Bolivia s gas fields and
giving foreign investors a six month deadline to comply with demands or leave. Bolivia has grown
much faster over the last 8 years under President Evo Morales than in any period over the past three
and a half decades. A year before the election of Morales Bolivia s annual increase in GDP was 0.9%,
today under the helm of Morales the annual increased has soared to 3%, a 2.1% increase. Furthermore
it would be possible to counter the argument that the stopping of global station would lead to
shortages in produce especially food. From what we know many secluded society s like the tribes in
the Amazon have managed to grow, cultivate and harvest enough food to feed their populations. For
example the The Xingu people that live in Xingu national park, have avoided globalisation ever since
the first landings on the Conquistadores landed in South America in the 16th century. During this time
their population has thrived from 3000 members in 32 different settlements. These people obtain their
food from communal vegetable gardens and spear fishing. Furthermore their traditional longhouses
are built from local trees. This is a clear example of a civilisation that has managed not only to survive
but to thrive in a world without globalisation. From these examples we can see that it is possible to
stop globalisation without a imminent collapse of society. However it has to be said that in the case of

The Discussion of Homosexuality in Comic Books
The discussion of homosexuality in comic books has a long history, reaching back to 1954, when
German American psychiatrist Frederick Wertham published Seduction of the Innocent, a book that
warned about the negative effect of popular literature. The book was a minor bestseller and was taken
seriously at the time, creating alarm in parents with the claim that reading the crime , superhero and
horror comics that contain descriptions of violence, sex, drug use and other adult themes, children will
be encouraged to similar behavior (Wikipedia). More than five decades later the song remains the
same; not much seems to have changed in society s mentality. Parents fear that violent video games
will make their children into raging psychopaths, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are Movies and TV shows addressing the issue in one way or another, experimenting with
LGBTQ characters and watching the reaction of fans, testing the waters. Twelve states have approved
same sex marriage legislation in the US, celebrities and sportsmen are coming out to the public, with
Pope Francis statement that gays and lesbians must be accepted with respect, compassion and
sensitivity , even the Catholic Church seems to have turned around and has pressed the reset button on
the Roman Catholic Church s treatment of LGBT people (Chad Griffin), and in spite of all this, just in
the past 3 years, there have been more than forty registered fatal hate crimes targeting gay, lesbian,
bisexual and transgender people.
The comic book industry did not ignore the issue either, and with all the other major media, comics
have made a statement; with all the superheroes that are literally coming out of the closet, the fact that
just this past year, there have been two same sex marriages on the covers of the Astonishing X men
and Archie, two big brand comic books, and that the first transgender comic book character, the
roommate of Batgirl, Alysia Yeoh, was introduced, this supposed cult medium turned into one of the
strongest advocates for gay rights and marriage equality (Zachary, Esquire blogs). It might seem like
homosexual characters are a new concept in comic books, though in fact they appeared as early as the

First Language Acquisition And The Doubt Towards...
Due to the development in first language acquisition and the doubt towards contrastive analysis which
has deemed that all errors made by language learners are caused by the interference from the mother
tongue, error analysis, a response to and an alternative of contrastive analysis and an approach
influenced by behaviourism was given birth to and become increasingly popular among researchers
and teachers who began paying more attention on and shifting the interest in the errors made by
second language learners in the 1960s and 1970s (Mitchell, Myles and Marsden, 2013). Central to the
notion of error analysis is that it is a process where learners errors are collected and analysed in order
to get some implication from the results (Brown, 1987, p. 17; Corder, 1967; Khansir, 2012) and the
purpose of error analysis according to Corder (1974, p. 170) is to find what the learner know and does
not know and to ultimately enable the teacher to supply him not just with the information that his
hypothesis is wrong, importantly, with the right sort of information or data for him to form a more
adequate concept of rule in the target language . Moreover, Gass and Selinker (2008) also agree that
second language learners errors can provide information about their knowledge of the system.
To know how error analysis works, firstly it should know what an error is and its possible sources.
When it comes to the definition of errors, many researchers have given their own ideas. Corder

The Rise of Modern Drama During the mid century of American theatre, the curtain rose to reveal a
new and different type of performance. Audience goers were used to the stylized works of Anton
Chekov and George Bernard Shaw, whose European classics were constantly being produced in the
United States. Actors, scenery, and costumes were limited to the refined themes of classical acting.
Theatre was growing bland with each revival. Nothing was being done to push the envelope, until
American writers claimed the stage. Authors including Arthur Miller, Lillian Hellman and Lorraine

Izanami s Creation
In the beginning, there was only a mass of Chaos but over time this mass begin to separate. The lighter
more translucent parts ascending to form the heavens while the heavier parts sank to become the
Earth. Heaven was given life and form while earth was still liquid and barren. The primordial gods
were not pleased, so they gave Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto the task of giving Earth life
and form. The two accepted and were given a jeweled spear, Amenonuhoko, to assist them with their
tasks. The gods crossed the bridge between Heaven and Earth. Once on Earth, they churned the sea
with the bejeweled spear and created Japan s first Island, Onogoro from the salt water still remaining
on the blade. The gods built their home there Once Onogoro was formed, Izanami and Izanagi wished

Similarities Between Christians And Byzantines
In this course, we have learned about three medieval worlds that existed in regions bordering the

Election Text Analysis Essay
Election Text Messaging Content Strategy Guide Election Text Messaging Content Strategy Guide
The next big idea in political campaigning is text messaging because operatives can reach supporters
with timely messages that people open and read. The costs are negligible when compared with
traditional advertising or even the low prices of email and social media campaigns. The only major
risk is overusing the medium by sending too many texts. Sending about four messages a month is the
maximum limit, and political campaigns should send at least two messages per month to keep
supporters engaged. Elections turn on getting the voters attention, and no advertising strategy or
medium does it better than a text message. Messages arrive directly on people s phones no matter
where they may be or what they re doing. Almost everyone with a smartphone checks his or her
messages regularly throughout the day. Mobile marketing is the easiest and most affordable way to
promote a candidate, political party or cause. However, the key to success involves building a
database of likely voters and supporters, energizing people with compelling content and distinguishing

tyrant would each be the most erotic men in the world, so that pure justness as well as its opposite can

readily accept as this interpretation of wholeness is fleshed out in greater detail certainly seem
Platonic especially as this idea of wholeness is presented in a speech in the Symposium, and it is of
intrigue as to why it never became a part of the soul Plato set out to define. Perhaps it was too much
for him to interfere with the parallel between the city and the soul that he describes earlier in this work
and their reliance on three parts. Or, as Cooper asks, was Plato meaning to leave a discussion on the
eros under the surface of his work in the Republic? (pgs. 350 61). Regardless, discourse concerning
eros in the Republic has taken place and one such example of that is David H. McNeill. He argues that
human eros cannot involve the desires of something other worldly, at least in the Republic which he
contrasts with the Phaedrus. Of the two works, art is something approached very differently and is a
part of a philosophical orientation that Plato is assigning to each, according to McNeill. The problem
is that each discuss it by very different means. In the Republic such things as poetry and paintings are
dismissed fairly easily as imitations while the Phaedrus gives an account that suggests divine
inspiration for these things. McNeill uses this to suggest that human

Temptation can make one see the world in a whole new light. This is a strong theme in the book
Siddhartha By Hermann Hesse. This theme was shown when in the book Siddhartha resisted
temptation to go after his son, when he gave into temptation with Kamala and when he resisted the
temptation to kill himself.
To start, Siddhartha was tempted to go after his son, but when he didn t, he finally saw how his father
felt when he left home himself. He felt a deeper love the runaway boy, like a wound and yet felt at the
same time that this wound was not intended to fester in him but that it should heal. Because the wound

Better, thought the young Samana to make sacrifices to the fair Kamala (p.47) Daily, however, at the
hour she invited him, he visited the beautiful Kamala, in fine shoes and soon he also brought her
presents. (p.53) The fact that Siddhartha started giving into his temptation that he deprived himself of
for the beginning of the story shows that giving into temptation can really change who one is as a
person. Siddhartha went from mortifying himself, to indulging in every urge he had. This changed
Siddhartha from wanting and needing very little, to wanting and needing only the best.
Lastly, Siddhartha was tempted to kill himself but when he didn t he realized that there was so much
he had to live for and that he could change himself for the better He looked down and was completely
filled with a desire to let himself go and be submerged in the water (p.71) He then had fallen asleep
and on awakening he looked at the world like a new man. (p.73) These quotes prove that temptation
can make one see the world in a whole new light because is Siddhartha had not resisted the temptation
to kill himself, he would not have awoken to find that life is truly a beautiful thing. The fact that his
outlook on life changed after resisting the temptation to commit suicide shows that temptation can
make one see the world differently, and in this case potentially see it

Woodrow Wilson s Accomplishments And Failures
Abstract
To better understand the successes and failures of the 28th president of the United States, Woodrow
Wilson, it is essential to define the image he portrayed to the American population during his
presidency. Many Americans and historians will claim he was a man of impartiality and the one who
led America into WWI. He had a very solid influence on Congress for the many domestic and foreign
affair policies he endorsed. The goal is to illustrate how President Woodrow Wilson ran his presidency
in the eyes of the American citizens. This will be done by examining the many facades that President
Woodrow Wilson exhibited during his term as president. Upon researching the events of President
Woodrow Wilson, it is clear that he was significant in moving our nation onward and supporting the
American people in every which way possible.

As Woodrow Wilson, the 28th president of the United States once said, America is not anything if it
consists of each of us. It is something only if it consists of all of us . (brainyquote.com, 2014). This is
true because we consider America as an entire nation. President Woodrow Wilson took office in 1913
and served his term until 1921. To many Americans he was known as a man of neutrality. He did not
favor America s entry into war under any circumstances. During the period of neutrality prior to

##ism Of Modernism In Virginia Woolf s Modern Fiction
In her essay Modern Fiction Virginia Woolf provides an abstract analogy, in order to explain human
existence, Life is not a series of gig lamps symmetrically arranged; life is a luminous halo . Despite
Woolf s intentions being fixed in addressing the centric qualities of life, her comment unintentionally
summons a suitable definition for the modernist movement. Modernism is comprehensive it is a halo.
A halo, comprised of many different sub genres such as, Expressionism, Dadaism, and Vorticism, to
mention but a few. This makes defining the movement, in short; arduous. However, Woolf s metaphor
of life as a halo mirrors modernism as her statement is as all encompassing and open to interpretation
as the movement itself. In addition to this, her comment also presents the reality of the modernist
movement, for if her employment of life were to be replaced with modernism in her statement, it
would still hold true. Modernism is not a series of gig lamps symmetrically arranged. It is instead a
fluid movement which begs for symbolic interpretation. A necessity, provided by Woolf in her halo
analogy. Despite the range of the movement and the diversity of its sub genres, there are some
discernible traits in the classic modernist text. The aim of this essay is to explore one of the primary
traits of the modernist movement; symbolism. Modernist writers, T.S Eliot and Virginia Woolf both
employed the practice of symbolism. Furthermore, the fundamental question of this essay with the

Analysis Of The Poem Bridget Sproul
Society has defined our conception of success and self worth for the longest time. We have effectively
turned into animals, valued solely for our instrumental value. Today in society, those who do what
they love are not valued. Instead those who make the most money (society s definition of success) are
valued. We are no better that simple honeybees, only living to serve the hive of society and die away
from it when we are no longer efficient and profitable. Through the constant switching of tone as the
poem progresses, the extended metaphor of a scout, and the in your face irony in the pretense of the
poem, Bridget Sprouls in SCOUT depicts the inherent lies and fallacies of social constructs by
showing how finding purpose in life is not synonymous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In earlier times, scouts were used to survey the positions of enemies or to survey and chart the frontier.
In the end, scouts were used to learn about thing not known before, to go places not gone before, and
most importantly, to pass on this garnered knowledge to others. In the poem, the speaker is a scout,
but not in the common sense. The speaker is a scout for the underbelly if society, a scout for those who
are shunned by society the prostitutes, the thieves, the voiceless and the homeless. Having experienced
and performed all the vices of society, she has in fact scouted and explored the side of society that
society tries to hide. She has sold her body for sustenance: bartering my eyelashes (10) and stolen
from those who have much to sustain herself: Thank you, bad shot farmers, for all the pecans (11). She
has also faced the sad reality of being invisible to the well to do. Her cries have gone unheard to the
point where she would wake to a sweet melody grinding / like an ice cream summons (13 14). In
search for companionship and the want to share her story with another person, she recognizes grinding
(13) as a sweet melody (13). The juxtaposition of these two opposite words shows the extent to which
she has been ignored. She equates the rustic, and unpleasant sound of grinding (13) to that produced
by an ice cream summons (14). The music of an ice cream truck causes all of us to have hope, the
hope of an ice cream bar or cone, the hope that we can all be happy. The speaker, after being dragged
down to the streets instead if succeeding, reaches out to any sound for hope as it is fleeting in her
situation. This idea that she latches onto the even most obscure sign of hope is demonstrated through
her trying to answer the phone in a forest (15). She is surrounded by the forest (15) or the concrete
jungle that is the city of

Literary Realism In Impressions Of A Native American Woman
Literary Realism is a response to social conditions. In the late 19th century, writers took contemporary
social issues and created a perspective that would expose the real dangers and damage created by
various social conditions, such as colonization, injustices against women, and violence. These
perspectives were not meant to influence a change in these conditions, but rather, bring attention to
them. One of the most important factors of Literary Realism is that it is presented in an objective
manner. By keeping these perspectives objective, writers were able to remove themselves from the
issue in order to keep their authenticity. It was critical that their responses remained objective to make
room for their stories to seem reasonable and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The social condition that Ša represents in her writing has to do with imperialism. As in her experience,
and the experiences of many others from her tribe, the younger children were brainwashed into
thinking that this imperialism was okay, that the learning of the white man s ways was okay, and
maybe even necessary. What many of them did not understand was the shrinking of their own cultures

Observation Of The Decatur Tribe
I have left my home planet, to go observe humans, which are one of the species that live on the planet
Earth. This paper looks at a specific the Decatur tribe that lives on one of the northern landmasses.
This tribe is an industrialized community that developed in an abundant natural habit. My
observations were from a spectator viewpoint and I did not have any contact with the humans. My
observation took place in one of their central gathering places. In this gathering place, there were areas
that were devoted to the trading of goods, to making and eating of meals and place to socialize.
Throughout this observation of human life, there seemed to be a very orderly way that the humans in
the Decatur tribe live their lives. Humans seem to be driven by a logical and ordered nature. Humans
have rules and orders the help shape their culture and how they interact with others.
Clothing
One of the ways that the order of their life can be seen how they cover their bodies. There was a
standard way that humans wear cloth to preserve modesty. Humans that did not conform to the
standards would stand out. Most humans had their torso covered. The amount of the limb that was
covered dependent on the human. Most of the male humans observed had both their upper and lower

Global Warming Debate Essay
In the controversy over whether Global Warming there is two sides in which people can choose either
human caused or just Mother Nature doing her thing. Most scientists will tell you that Global
Warming is mostly the cause of humans. While there are some who will disagree and say that it is just
nature doing what it has done for thousands of years. For most scientists the topic of global warming
is one that is caused by us humans. They have many facts data to back this up. Some examples of
these facts and data are the change in CO2 levels in the atmosphere, the rapid increase in temperature,
stronger storms such as hurricanes, melting ice caps, decrease in permafrost, and the Larsen A B ice

As hurricanes come over warmer waters they gain strength. Over the past 30 years the intensity of
hurricanes has doubled over the past 30 years, according to multiple studies. As the temperatures of
our oceans increase in temperature hurricanes will continue to gain strength and continuously intensify
over the next few years. The increase in ocean temperatures doesn t just affect things above the
surface it also affect life underneath. As temperatures increase it directly affects the coral, by
interfering with the coral s process involved in photosynthesis. Without photosynthesis the coral and
zooxanthellae wouldn t be able to take the nitrogen waste that the coral produces and turns the
sunlight into sugar, which makes up 98% of the coral s food. When the temperatures rise the coral
then reacts and split with their mutualistic algae and the coral then turns white. The process in which
the coral turns white is called bleaching. Without coral reefs hundreds of thousands of marine life that
rely on coral reefs will eventually die along with the reefs. In the debate of Global Warming in my
opinion humans are the main cause. And some more of how this can be attributed to us is the thawing
of permafrost, and melting ice caps. Permafrost is a big example because places where permafrost can
be found is also where some towns and communities are built, right on top of the permafrost. When

where we stand can come in the way. In the story The Shining Houses we experience lots of judgment
and differences between people that relate to their popularity and social status. The more the world

says that, Wreckage was the rule. Brutality was S.O.P. (566). Because the war was so confusing and
because the soldiers couldn t tell who the enemy was, many felt that, the army had no solution but to
kill people, uniformed or not, old or young, male or female, proven Viet Cong or not, (Fussell 654). To
me this is how some tried to justify killing but still some just couldn t make themselves feel as if they

The result of this guilt for the soldiers, psychologically, is that some of them seemed to go insane. For
instance, at the trial, one of the soldiers of Charlie Company, Paul Meadlo said this about why he
killed; he thought that the babies and children might attack: [t]hey might have had a fully loaded
grenade on them. The mothers might have throwed them at us (Vietnam 563). For some soldiers, their

The Allegory Of The Cave By Ray Bradbury
Negative Effects of Overreliance Materialistic items play a key role in the world today. People use
these items, such as technological appliances, to fulfill their daily wants and needs. However, most
people do not realize the negative effects of such a heavy reliance on material goods. In The Allegory
of the Cave, Plato shares his idea that an overdependence on items can negatively affect ethical
decisions. This idea is discussed in The Veldt, by Ray Bradbury, The Truman Show, by Peter Weir, and
Daniel Key s novel, Flowers for Algernon. Throughout all three stories, characters greatly rely on
items and other people, leading them to make unethical decisions. In some cases, people are
objectified as a result of being needed, desired, and treated unfairly. In The Veldt, The Truman Show,
and Flowers for Algernon, an overreliance on items leads to a loss of focus on morals and what is
ethically important. In Bradbury s The Veldt, the Hadley children, Peter and Wendy, lose a sense of
right and wrong because their reliance on technology distracts them from their morals. The children
lose compassion and understanding for others, engage in violence towards their parents, and make
hurtful and unethical comments towards family members. Their overreliance on technology distances
them from being able to work and provide for themselves. As Mr. Hadley tries and fails to seperate the
children from technology, the kids refuse to cooperate. Peter remembers how he didn t

The Influence Of Gangs In America
As a reader, I found thi¬¬s book very interesting and very easy to relate to. For me, life was not easy
growing up in Atlanta as a black male, as a child I consistently witnessed situations similar to what
Sudhir Venkatesh experienced such as gang beatings and the selling of illegal substances. Growing up
I moved homes and schools a few times and from this experience I learned that initially you will not
be accepted in a certain community, you have to slowly get accustomed to the norms before you are
welcomed in. Surprisingly the streets are a very judgmental place, just for being different Venkatesh
was called a Mexican and nigger when in fact he was neither. I can recall numerous circumstances
growing up when I was unfairly judged and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At one point in time Venkatesh himself stated that he was a hustler among hustlers, but unlike the
gang he wasn t hustling narcotics or money he was hustling participants. I seemed to me that
Venkatesh was using the gang members for his personal benefit since he received academic
advancements and praise. While studying communities, confidentiality is very important but in this
research Venkatesh breaks this rule because once he discovered that members of the gang had other
sources of income such as babysitting or prostitution. Venkatesh ends up telling JT and Ms. Baily
about his findings. This was a problem because after finding out about this information JT and Ms.
Baily felt like they were owed more money so they taxed people more money. I didn t like the way
Venkatesh considered himself a hustler among hustlers because while conducting research you should
be straight forward to the participates and tell them exactly what you are researching. Also, I hated
how Venkatesh handled the privacy of the residents of Robert Taylor because many people ended up
losing money that they could have used to support their family. I believe that everything in an
interview should stay between the interviewer and the

Verizon Swot Analysis Essay
Verizon SWOT Analysis

Verizon SWOT Analysis This paper is to decide whether to invest in a company. The company I have
chosen is Verizon Communication. I will conduct a SWOT analysis define the elements of the SWOT
analysis, and identify the most relevant parts of the analysis. I will then identify Verizon s
stakeholders, both internal and external and describe the stakeholders needs and wants. Finally I will
discuss how Verizon is fulfilling the stakeholders wants and needs.
SWOT Analysis

Strengths According to the FCC Verizon Communications is the largest carrier in the US (FCC, 2011,
p.8). Verizon also has the largest 4G LTE (Long Term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two companies are locked in a market share grudge match. This almost dead heat competition can
leave the door for the smaller competitors like T Mobile and Sprint to come in with small possible
innovation to unseat Verizon. Also government regulations and rulings have impacted Verizon s
growth. Earlier this year the FCC rejected Verizon s merger with T Mobile (Kirby, 2012).
Relevant Issues The areas that are the most relevant to the decision to invest would be Verizon s
growing 4GLTE network and their limited international reach. The 4GLTE network shows that
Verizon is committed to future growth. International markets are huge opportunities for expansion and
while a large risk, can be a big section for Verizon.
Verizon Stakeholders Verizon Communications stakeholders fall into two categories, internal and
external. Verizon internal stakeholders are their employees. Verizon s external stakeholders are
customers and investors.
Internal Wants and Needs Verizon s employees wants and needs are a high priority for the company.
Verizon asked an independent research firm to poll people from a wide range of Verizon s
organization. The results were very good. According to Verizon s website (2012) About 4 in 10
consider Verizon s CR programs to be excellent; 8 in 10 consider them to be excellent or good.
External Wants and Needs Customer satisfaction is

Communication Management For Securing The Olympic...
1) The 2024 Summer Olympics are less than 22 months away... Please research one of the below
campaign host cities and use examples of Communication Management for securing the Olympic
Committee voter bid.
For the Summer Olympic games in 2024 I choose Los Angeles as the host city because it hosted the
1932 games. Another reason I picked Los Angeles was because they are the most diverse city in
America but they are also the Western capital of the US, The Northern Capital of Latin America, and
Eastern capital of the Pacific Rim.
With that there are three main examples of communication management to help LA secure its vote in
the Olympic bid.
1) Communication Process Los Angeles released a video calling it LA24 and it shows why LA should
be chosen to hold the 2024 Olympics by having facts about LA come up throughout the video while
watching someone run or swim or bike.
2) Sport Organizational Image LA has hosted the Olympic games in 1932 so they aren t new to this
huge sporting event. The target audience in the LA24 is focused on all ages and races. I think they
wanted to show that LA welcomes everyone of every race, language, ect.
3) Sport Promotion Below are some of the sport promotional mix
Advertising LA24 is their main advertisement as of yet

Argumentative Essay On Zoos
When I was young, I was always curious. I was always running all over the place, looking and
discovering, like every young child does. My mother tried to sate my incredible curiosity, and in one
of her endless missions, I was brought to the zoo. I loved it. It was incredible to see God s creation all
around me. Everything was beautiful in its own way. At the zoo, I learned to respect and wonder at the
creation of God. Zoos have been invoking wonder for centuries. They started as menageries,
collections of animals held by rulers, and ended up as education and conservation centers (O Brien).
They are powerful organizations. Zoos should be helped and supported, because they help the
economy and bring in revenue, they conserve endangered animals, ... Show more content on

After all, every year, 175 million people visit American zoos, to learn about or see animals, according
to the Statistic Brain Research Institute ( Zoo Statistics , 1). This large amount of people visiting
means that zoos need a lot of people running them. There are many jobs provided by zoos. Zoo
directors, curators, zookeepers, and veterinarians are just a few of these ( Wildlife Careers ). All these
jobs help lower the unemployment rate, and help to create a stronger economy. Naturally, jobs help the
local economy. But zoos also influence the local economy in other ways. Zoos help boost the local
economy. A study by the Cincinnati Zoo revealed that visitors spent $23.2 million on off site spending
in Cincinnati ( Zoo Boosts Local Economy with Big Regional Impact ). Zoos bring in tourists, who
spend money on hotels, tour guides, public transportation, and in many more places. This extra profit
helps raise the standard of living, and, of course, boosts the economy. Humans benefit from zoo
revenue, but they aren t the only ones. Revenue generated by zoos help increase the zoo animal s
standard of life. Some zoos are updating their habitats, to make conditions better for the animals, such
as the Lied Jungle Exhibit at Omaha s Henry Doorly Zoo (Nichols and Tarpy, 9 14).Such operations
are extremely expensive. In order to pay for such things, they use the revenue generated from
customers of the zoos. Zoos not only use revenue to pay for the care of animals; they also use it to
help conserve endangered animals as

The Lady With The Dog Essay
Colour is in the art and the art is literature. Often, one depicts morality the concept of shades: a color
scheme that involves the gradation from lightest to darkest, which in most case, is white to black. In
such scale, the shades white and black represent two contrasting extremes as they parallel the idea of
morality, where white is right and black is wrong. However, the complication arises at the area
between the white and black: the grey. The grey area possesses no absolute verdict, for one can be
both morally right and wrong. Russian realist Anton Chekhov implements such perception as he
colours the story with white, black, and grey. An exploration of The Lady with The Dog serves to
examine his employment of colour in addressing the issue of morality, specifically regarding the
characters actions, and in part, the conveyance of his personal views of what is right and wrong.
Although each individual will claim to retain a unique perception of what is right, most can share the
agreement that the colour white is in fact ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the concept of morality in shades should not particularly be alien to the reader, Chekhov
does provide an interesting take of morality for instance, that he believes love, or feelings, to be an
important factor of human morale which he expresses using the colours white, black, and grey.
However, the reader should not expect to learn about morals through this story, as everyone possesses
his or her own opinion, but rather should reconsider what they value is right and wrong. The
exploration of colour in The Lady with The Dog proves insightful in understanding the author s
perspective towards morale of actions, even though Chekhov does not entertain the reader with an
absolute verdict. Colour is in the art and the art is literature; and what this exploration reveals is only
just one shade of the

American Education
Today s schools have standardized promotion requirements in the hopes that all students will be
promoted in fairness. Like most states, Ohio s criteria for promotion in grade school include a passing
grade in English composition, mathematics, science and reading. There are state mandated
benchmarks that must be met in all of these areas. The four levels of grading are: Advanced student
performs at a superior level; Proficient student has a solid performance; Deficient student s
performance is lacking; Failing student s performance is unsatisfactory. A student must be proficient
or better in all areas to qualify for promotion. Also, if a student is not performing in the C range or

Additionally, the state of Ohio uses these proficiency tests to evaluate the schools themselves. The
schools must pass all areas to retain accreditation. Approximately 93% of schools evaluated are failing
in at least one area (1998 99 1). This creates problems, as teachers, under pressure to perform well,
tend to teach toward the tests. Instead of having fun with their students and exploring areas related to
the topic, the teacher focuses on the areas the students will be tested over. That is, their curriculum
loses its wide range and tunnels towards the information covered on the tests. This tunneling tends to
narrow our children s education.
The percentages of failures indicate change is needed. A new form of educating our children, which is
really a return to the schoolhouse type of education, is Mixed Age Education. MAE is an educational
program built on the premise that different children learn different things at different rates. This
program allows children to be organized not by age, but by skill level. The groups are generally
divided into K 2 and 3 5. A child may be in Kindergarten level math and first level reading or fourth
grade science and fifth grade English. The child s progress is frequently assessed for trouble areas and
to determine when he or she is ready to advance to the next level in each individual area of teaching. A

Self-Disclosure In The Film Ordinary People
Self disclosure refers to communicating information about yourself that you would normally keep
hidden to others. Self disclosure has to involve at least one other individual and it has to be received
and understood by another individual. Who you are, your culture, your gender, your listeners and your
topic all influence self disclosure. Self disclosure and can have personal risks, relational risks, and
professional risks. Although the risks associated with self disclosure can be dangerous, the rewards of
self disclosure can be very beneficial. You can gain self knowledge, communication and relationship
effectiveness and physiological health. While watching the film, Ordinary People, I was able to
identify many examples of self disclosure between the charters in the film. The film, Ordinary People,

help him realize that he didn t do anything wrong. I don t believe there were any risks taken with
Conrad s self disclosure. Disclosing this information tremulously helped Conrad s self knowledge, and

Berry Gordy s Accomplishments
Berry Gordy founded Motown records in 1959, and created one of the most famous recording
companies to ever produce music. Motown had crossover success that helped promote the music of
African Americans. Motown records helped the civil rights movement and helped the blacks in their
fight for their rights. Berry Gordy really helped out the African American community by creating
Motown records and showing the world that blacks could really make quality music.
On January 12, 1959 a young man by the name of Berry Gordy founded Motown record. Berry had
gotten a loan of $800 from his family to start up his new company. Berry lived in Detroit Michigan so

would all be voted on. Everyone was able to talk honestly about the work and what they could work
on to make it better. The best song that was there would be released so it made the competition very
stiff so the writers and composers would have to work very hard and produce the best that they could.
Motown also had success not only music but in crossing over with white listeners. Motown was the
sound of young America, and had a way of getting everyone to listen to their music. Their music was
distinctive and was upbeat. The music brought together pop and soul, old and young, and black and
white together. Regardless of race or social background people came together to listen to these songs
that these artists were creating. Young teenage girls lived Diana Ross and Young teenage boys

In order to stop the fight we have to speak up, gather together, and protest peacefully without any need
for harm to come our way, or the police way. There is a major issue with police brutality within the
confinements of the United States of America, within society in general. The problem of police
brutality is not just a problem with African American, it is spread throughout all the races. Mr.
Castellani who is 20 years old, yelling and pointing at officers, who are posted down the street, after
his ejection from an Atlantic City casino for being underage. Four officers rush him, take him down
and begin beating him a fifth officer soon joins in. (The Baltimore,Leonard Pitts Jr.). It just so
happened that this man was black and had been brutally attacked by police because he said something
they didn t like it. It isn t always African Americans that are attacked thought, in 2014 Donovan

was intoxicated and hallucinating. He was brutally attacked because of what he believed in, it didn t
have anything to do with his skin color, as he was attacked by white police man and Duran turned out
to be a Caucasian man with a family and a job. All of that was taken away from him the moment the
cops dragged him into the hospital claiming he wasn t right in the head and the cops found him like

Genesis 22 By Carol Delaney
Abraham was not ethical in the story of Genesis 22. Judaism and Christianity should not perpetuate
the teachings of this story due to the some of the negative consequences it has had on larger society.
The lessons of this story teach us the role women and men play in culture. Perpetuated in this story are
notions that men are somehow closer to the divine; while women are seen closer to nature solely for
the purpose of reproducing. As stated by Carol Delaney, Men were thought to beget, women to bear...
that is, men have been, and often still are, seen as the ones who engender, while women merely give
birth (Delaney). In the story of Abraham, Sarah s opinion is completely non existing. As women who

Attitudes Toward Marriage in Chaucer s the Canterbury Tales
Attitudes Toward Marriage in Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales demonstrate many different attitudes toward and perceptions of
marriage. Some of these ideas are very traditional, such as that discussed in the Franklin s Tale, and
others are more liberal such as the marriages portrayed in the Miller s and the Wife of Bath s Tales.
While several of these tales are rather comical, they do indeed give us a representation of the attitudes
toward marriage at that time in history. D.W. Robertson, Jr. calls marriage the solution to the problem
of love, the force which directs the will which is in turn the source of moral action
(Andrew, 88). Marriage in Chaucer s time meant a union between spirit and flesh

The Franklin suggests a marriage of equality, a marriage where the laws of courtesy rule (Huppe,

show any form of jealousy, and at the same time he would obey any command she gave him (Lines
745 750):
Of his free wil he swoor hire as a knight That nevere in al his lif he day ne night Ne sholde upon hime

Arveragus and Dorigen s love and respect for each other is apparent at many times throughout the
course of the tale. Dorigen reciprocates his vow to her in lines 753 760 of the Franklin s Tale:
She thanked hym, and with ful greet humblesse She seyde, Sire, sith of youre gentilesse Ye profre me

been they bothe in quiete and in reste.
The Franklin goes on to describe the blissful happiness between
Arveragus and Dorigen and goes as far as to say that married couples share a happiness that someone
who isn t married couldn t appreciate or measure. This occurs in lines 803 5 of the Franklin s Tale:
Who koude telle, but he hadde wedded be, The joye, the ese, and the prosperitee

George Bush Biography
Introduction
George W. Bush is one of the most controversial figures in recent memory. From his boyhood
boarding schools and military background to the election in 2000, Bush has been the beneficiary of
preferential treatment. Coming from a family of wealthy politicians and businessmen, he did not have
to want, or work very hard for anything. That is, until his presidency pushed him on to the global
scene making it nearly impossible to underachieve like he did in school and in the military. Several
encounters with both the law and the Securities and Exchange Commission weren t enough to check
the Bush privilege. In fact, his family influence was strong enough to infiltrate the U.S. military,
Florida, and U.S. Supreme Courts during his time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After two years of piloting and logging over 336 flight hours, Bush requested to transfer to 9921st Air
Squadron in Montgomery, Alabama under Colonel Reese R. Bricken, in order to work on the senate
campaign of George H.W. s close friend William Blount. Before he could do so, Bricken made it clear
to Bush that he had not yet fulfilled the obligation agreed upon when he entered the service, but
Bricken approved his request anyhow. Much to the dismay of Bush, on July 31, 1972, the Air Reserve
Personnel Center (ARPC) overruled Bush s transfer request, saying that he could not be reassigned to
an Air Reserve Squadron in Montgomery because of his service obligations. Against the orders of his
superior officers, Bush relocated to Alabama anyway, leaving his guard responsibilities unresolved. In
August 1972, Bush was suspended from flying due to his failure to report for a medical exam. Soon
after, Bush reapplied for transfer to 187th Tactical Reconnaissance Group in Alabama and was
promptly approved. This is where allegations of Bush going A.W.O.L come into play. There are no
actual records of Bush performing any of his Guard duties between May 1972 and May 1973. William
Turnipseed, the commander of the 187th, doesn t even remember Bush at all. Had he reported in, I
would have had some recall and I do not, said Turnipseed when asked about Bush, I had been

  • 2. Fast Foods And Fast Food Essay Fast food is one of the easiest ways to get food and eat it in a hurry. More people have been eating fast food rather than eating at home for years. The rate of fast food consumption has not slowed in over fifteen years (North). Americans in today s society are busier than they have been. With people being busy they cannot find an easy way to make dinner, so they go to fast food restaurants to get food on the go. Many Americans also believe they are too busy to go shopping for groceries. Being busy is not the only thing that makes people eat fast food on the go. Why are numerous Americans eating fast food and not homemade food? Fast food is convenient and cheap for people who do not have time to cook or if they are too lazy. Advertisements encourage Americans to eat fast food as well. American lives have changed over the years, and eating habits have too. With people having jobs with schedules they can barely work around, fast food is a must for them to get a meal in a time crunch. More people prefer to get food on the go rather than take the time to make homemade food. Home cooked meals are slowly dying due to people being busy and choosing to eat fast food. More people today stop at fast food restaurants to get the food they can eat anywhere if they are on the run. When people go out of town for the weekend, fast food is an easy meal to eat in the car. Fast food is also an easy meal to eat while shopping in a hurry. Fast food is not only cheap it is convenient; most of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The First Major Theory Of Personality The first major theory of personality is the Psychoanalytic Theory of Personality and was created by Sigmund Freud. Freud s observations lead him to conclude that many mental disorders were caused by psychological factors. This was what lead him to create the Psychoanalytic Theory of Personality. This theory is very different from the other theories and it is based on three assumptions. The first assumption is that all psychological events have a cause which is known as psychic determinism. He believed that child experiences, like parenting, have a major influence on adult personality. He believed that dreams, and Freudian Slips reflected what people truly thought and felt. The second assumption is that all actions are meaningful. Simple things that you do not think about as having meaning are considered symbolic of something else. The third assumption, which is known as unconscious motivation, explains that we rarely ever understand why we do what we do. We still attempt to make up an explanation for this act even though we do not understand why we did it. Freud s view of the mind is often thought of as an ice berg. The ego makes up the conscious mind. The ego also known as the boss is the main decision maker. The ego s decisions are determined by the reality principle. The reality principle waits to express certain emotions, thoughts, or actions until it can find an appropriate outlet. The id is completely submerged under water. The id holds our most crude thoughts. Most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beating on Against the Current Essay Beating On Against the Current Each of us inevitable Each of us limitless each of us with his or her right upon the earth, Each of us allowed the eternal purports of the earth, Each of us here as divinely as any is here (Whitman 27). From out of the jazz soaked streets of New York City, arose a group of young poets and writers overwrought with the opportunity of their lives, and endeavored to capture its girth through the honesty and vulnerability of their words. These young bohemians would later lead the Beat Movement, which inspired young Americans throughout the county in their search for something more than the consumerism and conformity that plagued their society. Jack Kerouac s On the Road is a transcendent work that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many found the bleakness and insignificance of modern society enough to merit both withdrawal and protest. Throughout On the Road, the influence of the Beat movement s ideals on Kerouac s writing is overtly apparent. As the narrator meanders up and down the country, both the main characters , and the lone hitch hikers they pick up contain an attitude of restlessness which can be seen in their actions and speak. While hitching a ride from a farmer, as Sal and Dean prepare their story to tell the man, he stops them simply asking, You boys going somewhere, or just going? This so elegantly captures the internal state of the author coming out bluntly in the work. The beat idealism heavily places importance on personal discovery in any way possible, not necessarily knowing what that path looks like only knowing that you must travel to reach it. Kerouac was distraught with the complacency of living in one place, and set out with no real place to go, and as he writes in response to the farmer we didn t know the answer to the question, but it was a damn good question (Kerouac). The 1940 s, post war America was looking up, the Great Depression was just coming to an end, but along with those that so eagerly bought into the consumerism of the time, arose a nation s youth that was alienated, restless, and dissatisfied. looking for something to experience in a, frenzied pursuit of extreme exacerbation of the nerves . • 5. The Twilight Zone Analysis Rod Serling s The Twilight Zone, reflected the time it was created and the years that followed. Showcasing the not so black and white version of humanity and all that it entailed. Touching on the effects of the Cold War and the insecurities it brought to American society. Through this outlet in television, he was allowed to express his thoughts on the outlook that people were too afraid to speak about, lest being called out as a traitor or a communist. Almost, blatantly disagreeing with the McCarthyism if not exposing the idea of how ridiculous it was to question if your neighbor was patriotic or not. Rod brought up the anguish and blatantly obvious scenarios that would precede mutually assured destruction. The show s debut and following success ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Halakha, Jewish Religious Law And Religious Commandments Halakha by definition is Jewish religious law, encompassing both civil and religious commandments and prohibitions. The word Halakha stems from the root meaning to walk. Halakha involves the study of law and customs in the Jewish religion. According to rabbinic law it must be performed to sanctify all life and attain redemption. This idea when introduced was a collection of rabbinic commentaries from the Hebrew bible or the torah. The importance of halakha among Judaism and its trends, ideas, theories etc. is the fact that halakha is trying to integrate itself into the world and not just strictly deal with Jews but integrate itself into the world of non Jews. • 7. Lending a Helping Hand Essay Lending a Helping Hand There have always been organizations that provide help for the needy. Now the economy is going through a downward spiral giving these institutions a greater importance in helping the lives of those who need it. Miami County residents have seen firsthand that some people who live in this area really need the help. The statistical evidence shows that Miami County, Indiana is being affected by the economy. The average salary of a resident in Peru, Indiana ends up being $28,487. (Indiana) That number may not seem profound, but when you have a family to support, the budget gets tight. The normal wage annually for a resident in the state of Indiana is $45,434. (Indiana) That makes it roughly 38% more money than what Miami ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet, hunger only makes up for a small part of the complications that poverty brings. Without enough money, how does someone suppose to afford to live in a house? Though most Miami County residents do not see homeless people, does not hide the fact we have people living without a home. Peru is not a big city like New York, or Los Angeles, but no matter where you are at in America, there will always be those who cannot afford to rent or own any type of housing. Even if everyone could afford some type of housing to live in, it does not mean they can afford all the necessary utilities. Air conditioning is not a necessity, but someone might not have enough money to provide a fan. The cost for utilities such as electricity for a fan to keep the cool in the summer heat, or simply having running water might be a problem for someone with little to no income. With winter approaching even some people will have to go without heat in the Miami County area. Helping Hands is a Non Government and Non Profit organization in Miami County. Hershel Manhart was a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul in Peru when he began to do research to determine if there was a need for a food pantry. • 8. Okonkwo s Foil Diana DeBernardis, 5 Mr. Rosenberry Honors English 11 December 19, 2012 Okonkwo s Foil Opposites attract. This is a very cliché quote used by physicists and other scientific personnel, but it rings true in many different ways. In literature, the correct term for a character that sets off or enhances another character by contrast is called a foil. Pairs of characters that are foils to each other have very opposing views and personalities, but their presence with each other illustrates the qualities in a better light. The book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a fictional novel which includes a main character named Okonkwo. Okonkwo has some very distinguishing features about him, but the fact that he has a foil in the novel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Okonkwo explains to Obierika how he would strive to have a son like his because he is so strong and mighty, Obierika answers with a very pacifying response. You worry yourself for nothing, said Obierika. The children are still very young. (Achebe 66). This passage shows that Obierika is not so concerned about power and supremacy. Because of the contrast in Obierika s traits, he is definitely a foil to Okonkwo because Okonkwo is very strong minded, dogmatic, and hot tempered. If something does not go his way, Okonkwo will do something very irrational about it. When Okonkwo asked his second wife where his third wife, Ojiugo, was he became angered because his second wife lied to him about Ojiugo s whereabouts. He walked back to his obi to await Ojiugo s return. And when she returned he beat her very heavily (Achebe 29). Okonkwo s rationale of beating his third wife was in very poor judgment because he beat her during the Week of Peace. The Week of Peace was a week among the tribes where there was supposed to be no violence. This shows that Okonkwo has a very short temper and he does not tolerate nearly as much as Obierika can tolerate. Not only does Okonkwo differ from Obierika in the fact of their personality traits, but Obierika is a foil to Okonkwo because of Okonkwo s hunger for power. Okonkwo himself was known as the most powerful man in his village because he threw Amalinze the Cat, who was a great wrestler who had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. What Was The Influence Of The Baroque Period The Baroque Period, much like the barocco pearl that it was named after, did not just spring up out of nowhere. It was cultivated through time by different factors that developed the beautifully dramatic, grandiose and theatrical style we know today. To start off, the sector of religion must be of the most, if not the most, significant influence that helped the growth of the period. This is said because of the effects that had been brought about the Council of Trent in 1545, taking place after the Reformation. Bernini s earlier works Apollo and Daphne and Rape of Persephone commissioned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese between 1621 and 1625 are great examples of the Baroque style of sculpture. To field a women s rugby team, the basic needs include: 1) a pool of existing or incoming students that want to play, 2) a coach, 3) a soccer sized field for practice and competition, and 4) developing a schedule with local, regional and national competitive opportunities. Due to the development in first language acquisition and the doubt towards contrastive analysis which has deemed that all errors made by language learners are caused by the interference from the mother tongue, error analysis, a response to and an alternative of contrastive analysis and an approach influenced by behaviourism was given birth to and become increasingly popular among researchers and teachers who began paying more attention on and shifting the interest in the errors made by second language learners in the 1960s and 1970s (Mitchell, Myles and Marsden, 2013). Central to the notion of error analysis is that it is a process where learners errors are collected and analysed in order to get some implication from the results (Brown, 1987, p. 17; Corder, 1967; Khansir, 2012) and the purpose of error analysis according to Corder (1974, p. 170) is to find what the learner know and does not know and to ultimately enable the teacher to supply him not just with the information that his hypothesis is wrong, importantly, with the right sort of information or data for him to form a more adequate concept of rule in the target language . Moreover, Gass and Selinker (2008) also agree that second language learners errors can provide information about their knowledge of the system. Cooper s ideas concerning this desire seem to fit a model Plato would readily accept as this interpretation of wholeness is fleshed out in greater detail certainly seem Platonic especially as this idea of wholeness is presented in a speech in the Symposium, and it is of intrigue as to why it never became a part of the soul Plato set out to define. Perhaps it was too much for him to interfere with the parallel between the city and the soul that he describes earlier in this work and their reliance on three parts. Or, as Cooper asks, was Plato meaning to leave a discussion on the eros under the surface of his work in the Republic? (pgs. 350 61). Regardless, discourse concerning eros in the Republic has taken place and one such example of that is David H. McNeill. He argues that human eros cannot involve the desires of something other worldly, at least in the Republic which he contrasts with the Phaedrus. Of the two works, art is something approached very differently and is a part of a philosophical orientation that Plato is assigning to each, according to McNeill. Modernism is comprehensive it is a halo. A halo, comprised of many different sub genres such as, Expressionism, Dadaism, and Vorticism, to mention but a few. This makes defining the movement, in short; arduous. However, Woolf s metaphor of life as a halo mirrors modernism as her statement is as all encompassing and open to interpretation as the movement itself. In addition to this, her comment also presents the reality of the modernist movement, for if her employment of life were to be replaced with modernism in her statement, it would still hold true. Modernism is not a series of gig lamps symmetrically arranged. It is instead a fluid movement which begs for symbolic interpretation. A necessity, provided by Woolf in her halo analogy. Despite the range of the movement and the diversity of its sub genres, there are some discernible traits in the classic modernist text. The aim of this essay is to explore one of the primary traits of the modernist movement; symbolism. Modernist writers, T.S Eliot and Virginia Woolf both employed the practice of symbolism. • 30. Analysis Of The Poem Bridget Sproul Society has defined our conception of success and self worth for the longest time. We have effectively turned into animals, valued solely for our instrumental value. Today in society, those who do what they love are not valued. Instead those who make the most money (society s definition of success) are valued. We are no better that simple honeybees, only living to serve the hive of society and die away from it when we are no longer efficient and profitable. Through the constant switching of tone as the poem progresses, the extended metaphor of a scout, and the in your face irony in the pretense of the poem, Bridget Sprouls in SCOUT depicts the inherent lies and fallacies of social constructs by showing how finding purpose in life is not synonymous ... In the end, scouts were used to learn about thing not known before, to go places not gone before, and most importantly, to pass on this garnered knowledge to others. In the poem, the speaker is a scout, but not in the common sense. The speaker is a scout for the underbelly if society, a scout for those who are shunned by society the prostitutes, the thieves, the voiceless and the homeless. Having experienced and performed all the vices of society, she has in fact scouted and explored the side of society that society tries to hide. She has sold her body for sustenance: bartering my eyelashes (10) and stolen from those who have much to sustain herself: Thank you, bad shot farmers, for all the pecans (11). She has also faced the sad reality of being invisible to the well to do. Her cries have gone unheard to the point where she would wake to a sweet melody grinding / like an ice cream summons (13 14). In search for companionship and the want to share her story with another person, she recognizes grinding (13) as a sweet melody (13). The juxtaposition of these two opposite words shows the extent to which she has been ignored. She equates the rustic, and unpleasant sound of grinding (13) to that produced by an ice cream summons (14). The music of an ice cream truck causes all of us to have hope, the hope of an ice cream bar or cone, the hope that we can all be happy. The speaker, after being dragged down to the streets instead if succeeding, reaches out to any sound for hope as it is fleeting in her situation. This idea that she latches onto the even most obscure sign of hope is demonstrated through her trying to answer the phone in a forest (15). In the late 19th century, writers took contemporary social issues and created a perspective that would expose the real dangers and damage created by various social conditions, such as colonization, injustices against women, and violence. These perspectives were not meant to influence a change in these conditions, but rather, bring attention to them. One of the most important factors of Literary Realism is that it is presented in an objective manner. By keeping these perspectives objective, writers were able to remove themselves from the issue in order to keep their authenticity. The regional realism that Ša uses when telling her memoirs is important because it shows a specific contrast between her culture and the white man s culture, and this helps to better understand her concerns for this social condition. The social condition that Ša represents in her writing has to do with imperialism. As in her experience, and the experiences of many others from her tribe, the younger children were brainwashed into thinking that this imperialism was okay, that the learning of the white man s ways was okay, and maybe even necessary. This paper looks at a specific the Decatur tribe that lives on one of the northern landmasses. This tribe is an industrialized community that developed in an abundant natural habit. My observations were from a spectator viewpoint and I did not have any contact with the humans. My observation took place in one of their central gathering places. Throughout this observation of human life, there seemed to be a very orderly way that the humans in the Decatur tribe live their lives. Humans seem to be driven by a logical and ordered nature. Humans have rules and orders the help shape their culture and how they interact with others. Clothing One of the ways that the order of their life can be seen how they cover their bodies. For most scientists the topic of global warming is one that is caused by us humans. They have many facts data to back this up. Over the past 30 years the intensity of hurricanes has doubled over the past 30 years, according to multiple studies. As the temperatures of our oceans increase in temperature hurricanes will continue to gain strength and continuously intensify over the next few years. The increase in ocean temperatures doesn t just affect things above the surface it also affect life underneath. As temperatures increase it directly affects the coral, by interfering with the coral s process involved in photosynthesis. Without photosynthesis the coral and zooxanthellae wouldn t be able to take the nitrogen waste that the coral produces and turns the sunlight into sugar, which makes up 98% of the coral s food. When the temperatures rise the coral then reacts and split with their mutualistic algae and the coral then turns white. The process in which the coral turns white is called bleaching. Without coral reefs hundreds of thousands of marine life that rely on coral reefs will eventually die along with the reefs. In the debate of Global Warming in my opinion humans are the main cause. And some more of how this can be attributed to us is the thawing of permafrost, and melting ice caps. Permafrost is a big example because places where permafrost can be found is also where some towns and communities are built, right on top of the permafrost. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People use these items, such as technological appliances, to fulfill their daily wants and needs. However, most people do not realize the negative effects of such a heavy reliance on material goods. In The Allegory of the Cave, Plato shares his idea that an overdependence on items can negatively affect ethical decisions. This idea is discussed in The Veldt, by Ray Bradbury, The Truman Show, by Peter Weir, and Daniel Key s novel, Flowers for Algernon. Throughout all three stories, characters greatly rely on items and other people, leading them to make unethical decisions. In some cases, people are objectified as a result of being needed, desired, and treated unfairly. In The Veldt, The Truman Show, and Flowers for Algernon, an overreliance on items leads to a loss of focus on morals and what is ethically important. In Bradbury s The Veldt, the Hadley children, Peter and Wendy, lose a sense of right and wrong because their reliance on technology distracts them from their morals. The children lose compassion and understanding for others, engage in violence towards their parents, and make hurtful and unethical comments towards family members. Often, one depicts morality the concept of shades: a color scheme that involves the gradation from lightest to darkest, which in most case, is white to black. In such scale, the shades white and black represent two contrasting extremes as they parallel the idea of morality, where white is right and black is wrong. However, the complication arises at the area between the white and black: the grey. The grey area possesses no absolute verdict, for one can be both morally right and wrong. Russian realist Anton Chekhov implements such perception as he colours the story with white, black, and grey. An exploration of The Lady with The Dog serves to examine his employment of colour in addressing the issue of morality, specifically regarding the characters actions, and in part, the conveyance of his personal views of what is right and wrong. • 48. Genesis 22 By Carol Delaney Abraham was not ethical in the story of Genesis 22. Judaism and Christianity should not perpetuate the teachings of this story due to the some of the negative consequences it has had on larger society. The lessons of this story teach us the role women and men play in culture. Perpetuated in this story are notions that men are somehow closer to the divine; while women are seen closer to nature solely for the purpose of reproducing. As stated by Carol Delaney, Men were thought to beget, women to bear... that is, men have been, and often still are, seen as the ones who engender, while women merely give birth (Delaney). In the story of Abraham, Sarah s opinion is completely non existing. As women who has given birth to Isaac, she holds no auditory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Attitudes Toward Marriage in Chaucer s the Canterbury Tales Attitudes Toward Marriage in Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales demonstrate many different attitudes toward and perceptions of marriage. Some of these ideas are very traditional, such as that discussed in the Franklin s Tale, and others are more liberal such as the marriages portrayed in the Miller s and the Wife of Bath s Tales. While several of these tales are rather comical, they do indeed give us a representation of the attitudes toward marriage at that time in history. D.W. Robertson, Jr. calls marriage the solution to the problem of love, the force which directs the will which is in turn the source of moral action (Andrew, 88). • 50. George Bush Biography Introduction George W. Bush is one of the most controversial figures in recent memory. From his boyhood boarding schools and military background to the election in 2000, Bush has been the beneficiary of preferential treatment. Coming from a family of wealthy politicians and businessmen, he did not have to want, or work very hard for anything. That is, until his presidency pushed him on to the global scene making it nearly impossible to underachieve like he did in school and in the military. Several encounters with both the law and the Securities and Exchange Commission weren t enough to check the Bush privilege. In fact, his family influence was strong enough to infiltrate the U.S. military, Florida, and U.S. Supreme Courts during his time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After two years of piloting and logging over 336 flight hours, Bush requested to transfer to 9921st Air Squadron in Montgomery, Alabama under Colonel Reese R. Bricken, in order to work on the senate campaign of George H.W. s close friend William Blount. Before he could do so, Bricken made it clear to Bush that he had not yet fulfilled the obligation agreed upon when he entered the service, but Bricken approved his request anyhow. Much to the dismay of Bush, on July 31, 1972, the Air Reserve Personnel Center (ARPC) overruled Bush s transfer request, saying that he could not be reassigned to an Air Reserve Squadron in Montgomery because of his service obligations. Against the orders of his superior officers, Bush relocated to Alabama anyway, leaving his guard responsibilities unresolved. In August 1972, Bush was suspended from flying due to his failure to report for a medical exam. Soon after, Bush reapplied for transfer to 187th Tactical Reconnaissance Group in Alabama and was promptly approved. This is where allegations of Bush going A.W.O.L come into play. There are no actual records of Bush performing any of his Guard duties between May 1972 and May 1973. William Turnipseed, the commander of the 187th, doesn t even remember Bush at all. Had he reported in, I would have had some recall and I do not, said Turnipseed when asked about Bush, I had been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
